Walking through town with jj and Kiara. She's shopping while you and jj tag along, she has midsummer coming up, and even though she thinks it's just fascist bullshit she can't help but love dress shopping, she's just a girl.

You guys are in the 3rd store this afternoon, dress after dress Kiara still can't find the perfect one.

“How about this one?” jj said picking out a random dress from the rack.

“Jj you and I both know that's ugly.” Kiara said with a disappointed look.

“Ugh! I can't seem to find one decent enough dress. I'm gonna lose it.” Kiara said as she swiped through hanger after hanger.

“Why do you need a new dress you have plenty,” you asked walking around looking for a dress

“Because my mom said so, I can't keep wearing the same ones over and over ‘it looks wrong’ and I quote.” Kiara answers.

“And by that she means it looks poor.” you finish for her grabbing a dress from the rack and inspecting it before adding it to your pile.

“I don't blame you but we've been through so many stores and you still can't seem to find one dress.” you throw your head back still looking for a dress.

“Kie why do you even care about this dress, you'll wear it for like not even a few hours anyways.” jj said giving up and sitting on the couch taking his cap off.

“If I have to wear it, it's gonna be perfect.” Kiara said smacking her lips.

“Prech it girl.” you said from across the room.

Finally after 11 racks and 2 stacks of dresses, kie is finally in the dressing room.

“Heres this one, it's only better than the rest.” she said coming out from the curtains with a blue sequin dress.

“I mean it's cute-”

“For prom” jayj finishes your sentence.

“Yeah it seems much for midsummers” you say tilting your head.

“Ugh that's what I thought but I wasn't sure, the rest are as bad!” Kie groans looking at herself in the mirror.

“There's like 2 satin dresses I picked out, try one of those. Girls usually wear simple dresses.” you say laying back on the couch.

“Theres a light blue and purple, which one are we thinking?” she yells out.

“Lights blue” jj said with his face covered by hat.

“Mmm purple if you wear blue you're practiially matching with Rafe” you say looking at the celling unbothered

Until you hear the words Rafe come out your mouth.

“What do you mean matching with him? How do you know what he's going to wear?” Kiara asked popping her head out the curtain confused.

“And you've never been to midsummer too how do you know what they wear?” jj suspiciously asked.

Your eyes widen before you look at your friend on the couch trying not to become flustered before opening your mouth to lie the best you ever could.

“Uh cause kies mom always post a family pic on Facebook and I stalk for fun when Im bored. I see some girls in the background..” you come up with, its true the stalking part so did you technically lie?

“Oh yeah you do I remember when you accidently liked John bs old post” jj laughed at himself.

“You were so petrified even though you were literally sitting in the chateau with him across the room.” jj pushes you in the side.

“Even though he's our friend it's embarrassing when someone finds out you stalk them!” you defending yourself.

“What did you mean by the Rafe thing tho” jayj asked.

“Its blue, Rafe 100% is gonna wear it cause ‘it matches his eyes’ " you said the last part dramatic

“Yeah he is a self observed prick” kie said shutting the curtain continuing to try on dresses.

You sit back in relief, letting out a deep breath after almost getting caught by your friends.

The only reason you knew what he was wearing is because you were there. You helped him pick it out and when he was having it tailored in the living room of tannyhill.

You and Rafe were riding on a ferry on the way to the mainland. You were wearing a sundress with him in a matching polo shirt and khakis, both in ray bans he'd bought you.

He said his arm wrapped around your shoulder as he talked to you about the times he's snuck out and come to the mainland with him and his boys, with fake IDs and college parties they wessled their way in.

“Yeah and then Kelce was hooking up with a girl and then the cops came and we had to run! He got so pissed and yelled out cock blocking pigs!” he said chucking too himself.

You giggling finding the story funny but couldn't help but feel bad as you felt the buzzing of your phone that were obviously texts from your friends you canceled on.

“Whos texing you?” Rafe asked

“Just my friends” you say adjusting in the seat and grabbing your phone from your purse. Seeing notifications of the group chat of the pouches.

“Yeah they were planning Jj's birthday party today too. I told them to let me know if there's anything I can do while I'm gone but they said not to worry about it but as you can tell I think they're worrying.” you chuckled to yourself playing with your fingers.

“Jayjs party?” he scoffed “and I didn't get an invite?”

“Its at John bs place and besides even if you did get an invite you wouldn't even go. Thought you couldn't stand pouges” you looked at him

“And yet here we are..” he said before going in for a slow and passionate kiss.

The kiss was sweet. It tasted like mint gum and candy that you both shared. You couldn't lie to yourself, you loved these sweet moments with Rafe but you had to keep reminding you self that none of this was real. None of it was real.

Well it couldn't be anyways.

After kie finally picked the dress which was the purple satin one, you guys finally hit up a restaurant for lunch.

You guys sat in a booth and were handed menus by the waiter.

“Should we just get a pizza and split?” you offered

“Sure but we gotta get fries too” jj said looking through the menu.

After a couple of minutes getting your drinks and waiting for the food you guys were talking and jj hogging the fires.

Jj was smiling until the bell jingled and someone came in. He looked up and pure hatred took over his face.

“And look what the draft brought in.” he said throwing his fry in the basket.

You all looked up to see the one and only Rafe walk in. Wearing the Ray bans and his stupid (yet cute) button-up. He looked around and spotted jj, squinting his eyes and then placing a fake smile before coming up.

You groaned and slid down into your seat knowing what was about to come up.

“Ugh what does he want.” kie said giving dirty looks.

“Well well well, didn't know they served anchovie pizza here?” he said with his famous smirk, gabbing a chair and pulling it up.

“What do you want Rafe.” kie spat out

“Well I came for pizza cause its a pizza place..” he said smiling “didn't know pouges would be on my side of the island.” he said with any sign of fake happiness gone.

Him and Kie locked eyes practically having a staring contest.

You spoke up to hopefully ease the tension.

“Rafe I think your pizza is ready.” you said moving your eyes to the pizza sitting on the counter.

His eyes moved to you completely softening, but still had the hate look on his face. Complete whiplash it gave you.

“Didnt see you there princess.” he said looking you up and down.

“Okay you can go now.” jj shewed Rafe away.

“Don't want your pizza getting cold.” kie said.

You rolled your eyes, the typical kook vs pouge shit Rafe pulls. Rafe eyes linger on jj, then kie giving them looks that could kill. Soon he gets uo pushing the chair back, he goes up pays for the pizza. As he waits for the cashier to arrive he turns back around staring at your table.

“God he's so insufferable.” Kie says as the pizza arrives and you all start to dig in.

“Oh you got some sauce on your face princess” jayj says as he wipe the sauce off with his thumb.

Rafe watches jj as he licks his thumb and gets the smallest bit of sauce on your face

Didn't even need a napkin, could've just swiped it off yourself Rafe thinks to himself.

Soon the cashier arrives and handles the transaction. Finishing up Rafe huff out the store with the pizza. he gets to his car slamming the door and handing the pizza to Sarah who was in the passenger seat.

“Jeez what's your problem” she looks at her brother with a judgmental look.

“Those damn pouges.” Rafe talked through trough his teeth staring the truck.

“Let me guess, jj was sitting inside enojing a slice of pizza and minding his own business.” Sarah said smacking her lips.

“And Kiara.” he said looking at staah knowing the name would cause some spark.

“God that bitch.” Now the girl matching his energy.

“Hmm her cars right there…” Rafe said pointing to her blue nissan.

“Toolbox is in the back,” Sarah mentioned slyly.

Back in the restaurant the group of kids were eating and laughing when y/n got a notification. She picked up her phone looking at the Lock Screen.

Apple Pay Rafe 🕶️ sent $150: Get an Uber.

Y/n sighed in her spot, obviously her mood being ruined when another notification came.

Apple Pay Rafe 🕶️ sent $100: More Napkins wouldn’t hurt.

Y/n shocked her head and put her phone back down shaking the thoughts away as she focused on jayj talking about night surfing later.

After an hour you guys finally finshed, you took the bill because with the $250 you now had should be going to the dinner Rafe ruined. Or was about too.

As you all walk out towards the parking lot, you see Kiara’s care with all 4 tires popped.

“That fucking asshole!” Kid said running up to her car looking at the damage he caused.

“Kooks always win.” jj said taking his hat and ruffling his hair

“What the fuck am I gonna tell my parents ?” Yk said bending down and checking her tires.

so that was the Uber was for.

30 minutes later a tow truck and Kiara’s parents are surround the mechanic dude talking about prices and damage as you guys sit on concrete side walk.

“Can’t believe Rafe would actually do this. What would even prevoke him to do damage this bad?” Kie said with her head in her hands feeling completely defeated.

“It’s Rafe, not like he needs any reason to terrorize us. We were just eating pizza man.” jj said laying against the brick wall of the restaurant.

“You guys wanna Uber out of here? I’ll pay.” You offered feeling bad. It felt like your fault.

“No I have to go home, my parents are absolutely are gonna flip out on me.” Kie said closing her eyes whining.

“Jay?” You asked

“Where do you have the money for an Uber?” Jj asked.

“Extra shifts I guess, do you want a ride or not?” You ask one last time.

“Yeah yeah I’ll go with you.” he agreed.

Soon enough you’re in the Uber, you and jj are in the back seat. He’s looking out the window as you text your parents jj was coming over. As you sent the text you grab your sunglasses in your bag and putting them on to block out the sun for a quick nap.

“So where are you getting all this extra cash?” Jj asked suspiciously.

“I work and save up jay. Saving up means I don’t spend my whole paycheck at the smoke shop.” You lied.

“Those are raybans. I thought you said you didn’t like wasting your money on materialistic stuff” he asked pointing to the glasses.

“They were on sale, and besides I can't own at least one nice thing jj?” you say avoiding eye contact.

“You picked up the whole check and now the uber-”

“Jj enough! I don't feel like being integrating by my own best friend. I work okay? I save up and am able to have these extra things.” you scoffed

“Okay okay chill out..” jayj let go of the topic.

Soon the 20-minute ride to the opposite side of the island's finally came to an end. You and jj got out with him follow you into your house and straight to your room.

“Are you staying the night?” you asked putting your purse and shoes to the side.

“Mhm probably not, I gotta work at the dock early in the morning.” he said grabbing his secret stash of weed and joint paper behide the picture of you and the pouges.

“Your welcome to join me?” he said opening your window and beging to roll a joint.

“No thanks jay” you say crashing down on your bed and opening up insta.

As you scroll through stories you end up on Rafes with him at the country club playing golf with his friends in the morning, then a few drinks, then him and Sarah with a screw driver with fake smiles caption with “🐟🛞”

As soon as you get off a insta you get a text.

Sanders Sides Character Recaps and Fortune Telling, what fun

let me start by saying I have suddenly been thrown back on the Fander train without my consent and this is the result of that. its a doozy, but if anyone wishes to discuss further id be delighted. so:

Virgil: came a long way, accepting being accepted, he's still dealing with the guilt of his past i spose. getting more familiar with everyone, him and logan are cute (platonically). Of course as Anxiety, he still struggles with lying (because we get nervous when we think about getting found out) and intrusive thoughts (what if im a bad person) but as a person(?) hes learning to come to terms with that, well on his way with a few crises coming his way, theres that whole thing with saying Paranoid to him, hope we face that. I see self discovery and good things coming his way, a win for all you virgil fans!

Roman: clearly, getting pretty emotionally beat, yknow, sides with Janus to be shot down, goes against Janus to be shot down again, significantly lacking in wins recently, you wonder abt his self esteem. Still doing his job great, which seems to be the only thing hes got going for him which is concerning. in the You vs Yourself vid hes very unsure about his moral views because he recognizes hes not Morality and when he proposes arguments they are based on endgoal, just like hes usually been as Passion, creativity, career drive, you might say? I dont see his arc being addressed in his near future, but I'm sure it will come to that. I see dark times before his good times roll, hang in there Roman fans, he'll get his moment.

Patton: Hes really been going through it, hasnt he. I mean, recently he just found out there was so much more complications to his job that he wasnt prepared to handle and to be faced with it all at once must be really challenging, especially when everyone is expecting results from him and he doesnt even know what to do and theyre all judging his decisions when hes just trying his best with all these new factors to consider with his job as Morality. Its easier for him to come to terms with Janus as deceit than Remus because he can easily see how lying can be good (even though he knows its also not a lot of the time) but he still doesnt really know how Intrusive Thoughts are helpful to Thomas or good in any way. I see in his future, job related anxiety and insecurity. It will be adressed, and its also good he was allowed his breakdown early (You vs Yourself, you can tell I really like this episode despite a severe lack of Virgil and Remus)

Logan: Well. we all know how this is going, I mean, hes the talk of the town lately! As a Logan fan, I can attest to the fact that he did used to be more lighthearted and smile more and I can also attest to the fact that Thomas is very aware of his development as a character and I don't think he'll let yall down. just, what I can glean from his videos. we're all waiting for him to go apeshit, and I with you, and i do think its coming very soon guys, hold on to your proverbial hats! I do enjoy that hes clearly indifferent to the new additions and not thrown off like the others. due to the fact that he is Logic. Id also like to point out that logic can be wrong and everyones logic is different. even if its less so compared to how anxiety is. so. logic is still susceptible to human whims. anyway theres been plenty going aorund abt ignoring logan and the orange side, and I'm always up for discussion on any of these guys. Hes really been just going ham into his job, huh? search for purpose, hmmm? ponder on that morsel. more alcohol in his life as well, an interesting observation.

Janus: oh, the snakey boi. How hes grown. he does a lot of drinking too. what for, I wonder. I do think the preposition to his song reveals a lot, like how Patton is talking to him more, how he knows truths and knows that some need to be hidden and its healthy to lie sometimes even when you know its a lie. Hes confident in himself and his abilities and knows when the criticism is ignorance vs actual criticism, which is why he values Logan's perspective on his arguments and brushes off Roman's jabs to his ego. Hes safely on the ride, and I dont see any heavy existential crises or anything in his near future, as in, he (and Remus, I'll talk about it later) will probably be the only mentally stable ones as the Light Sides are having their purposes reevaluated. Confidence is surprisingly key. who'da thunk it?

Remus: My favourite rat man. True to his name, hes very intrusive, and I admire his determination in his fight for acknowledgement. I think it will serve him well, the "face it bluntly hands on" tactic compared to Janus, who understands where he stands in the others' eyes and will slowly but surely snake his way (see what i did there?) to the table. Remus, and I love it about him, is just running forward to acceptance MACE ABLAZING and I hope it takes him good places. the WTIT ep was very revealing. his confidence in himself, like Janus's, will carry them through the generally rough patch that I predict is coming their way. i do think he is salty abt being ignored, which I interpret as the biggest difference between him and Janus (who might also be, but I dont really see it? I might also be in denial cuz this theory is really working for me) and Remus is wounded by it and trying to hide the fact that hes salty with his craziness and randomness that no one understands. its why he feels mor menacing than Janus. who knows, Janus might be just as peeved but hiding it better? settled himself in for the long game?

both dark sides certainly seem bent (and betting) on getting Logan to lose his marbles, but idk whether thats for Logans good or so the Reasonable Light Side (tm) will see what its like? and by proxy everyone else...? the tail end of the theory is escaping me now. its also 5 am.

Cant wait to see how the orange side manifests, wont that just be plenty of fun for all?

ANYWAY, i have some thoughts

about Mirage...

I feel so bad for Mirage. There was actually a lot of potential for her that wasn't used. 😞

She really could've been used in the story, theres plenty of ways of how. And interactions and scenarios she could've brought. She's a magical cat for crying out loud! An entity known as a spirit by the Daemos! AND APPARENTLY A RARE TYPE OF SPIRIT TOO! Leif said so!

And yet she does nothing. She doesn't even get double digits of screentime, i don't believe.

She ends up serving no purpose to the story. And I consider it a writing crime that the only purpose she had was for MARKETING.

She was used for being turned into a marketable plushie 😭😭😭

Additional info that confuses me:

In episode one, where Lady Grandma is the only one left and before the portal closes, She orders Mirage to protect the group, and Mirage goes through the portal.

But this scene implies that Mirage is Lady Grandmas familiar. Or Guardian.

And in episode four, where asch is about to use his fire magic on ava after she provoked him, rhys yells out to him to stop, and wittle bwack cwoud with fwoating eyes knocks the two away from eachother and then stares at them in a corner stwikeing fear into their hwearts...

But. The part that then confuses me:

Is neither Asch nor Rhys RECOGNIZE HER.

(I personally dont see it, Asch knowing her, because it seemed he was more embarrassed of showing he thought she was cute, rather than actually knowing her. Idk if it's me not getting social cues, though. Perhaps he was embarrassed to know her? Im not sure why he would be embarrassed, though... this also kinda disproves Her being his familiar that Lady Grandma ordered Instead. theres also additional interactions that are missing to prove this is the case. But back to our scheduled program; )

We have implications that she's Lady Grandma's familiar!

And perhaps Asch doesn't know his grandmother very well or isn't as close to her until more recently.

But RHYS OF ALL PEOPLE, her MOST TRUSTED student/disciple, should recognize Mirage!

And yet he doesn't! So Lady Grandma kept mirage a secret from rhys??

Why??

These spirits that tend to become Guardians seem to be general information. It wouldn't be suspicious to have a familiar?

Instead, perhaps a sign of respect, as they seem to respect spirits in general! (This would've been cool worldbuilding, a familiar binding to you being a sign you are someone to respect because they respect you.)

Unless she intended Mirage to be an ace up her sleeve? that not even Rhys could know??

*sigh* Sorry, my logical side of my brain is spiraling.

Mirage deserved better, and an actual purpose to the story!

Actually, heres some ideas;

SHES the only way Rhys and Lady Grandma could actual communicate. Rather than... that uh.. bathroom scene.. with the mirror.. and..

I uh get the reference to the mirror, alike "oh a mirror is a connection to a different dimension"

But perhaps Mirage could've acted alike the eyes and ears on earth for Lady Grandma, though maybe it leaves Lady Grandma back on daemos in a vulnerable state, so she must do this sparingly (ignoring the whole magic is going extinct bit...)

Perhaps Mirage could've translated Lady Grandma's words to Rhys via something like telepathy. ... basically, Mirage being used as a phone but with video and extra steps.

Additionally, she could've been used to letting Rhys know something has happened to Lady Grandma. That would be a fun scene.

Though i like the idea Mirage does not have the ability to speak. But can communicate in something akin to like sandman or sandy from rise of the guardians. (It's a good movie, has some flaws, but it's a good watch.)

i did not mean to do it, but i was passing time in the library, just waiting for my sign language lesson (theyre going great btw, im really enjoying it) not planning to borrow anything, ive got plenty of unread books at home, but as i was leaving i passed the just returned section and there, i noticed it, a huge orange book (would be hard to miss honestly) and before i knew it i was checking out with it

im going on a school trip to england tomorrow (by bus so, a few days on the ride, well be stopping in amsterdam for a day so id love any tips btw, i plan to check your old trip asks) and i figured im gonna need something to read anyway and its so long ill definitely only only need this one book with me and it was even the english version which is the one i wanted to read so it was perfect

and thats how i ended up with a bag much heavier and the priority of the orange tree on my shelf rn

all i saw so far were maps (YES! PLURAL! THATS SO FUCKING COOL) and some glossaries or something and im really excited to get into it

oh my god a school trip to england and you're stopping in amsterdam on the way?? god that sounds so fun. and you have priory now aaaa that's gonna be such a good book to read while you travel (although it's so heavy it's incredibly inconvenient to travel with)

ok ok amsterdam tips hm. well first off watch out for bikes. I don't know how common bike riding is in your country so maybe you already know this, but in america you never really have to worry about looking out for bicyclists when you're crossing the street you just focus on cars. in amsterdam you WILL get hit by a bicyclist if you're not careful so make sure to watch out. this was a lesson I had to learn quickly as an american.

I definitely recommend finding a cute cafe or something in amsterdam. not a coffee shop since that term means something very different in amsterdam (although if you want to go to a coffee shop live your best life) but theres some very good actual coffee and snacks you can find in cafes. I still daydream about this cheese and tomato croissant sandwich I had in an amsterdam cafe it was so good

anyway I hope you enjoy priory!! honestly I'm kind of laughing at how many of you I've convinced to read it. I'm reading the prequel right now and literally losing my mind at how good it is. the worldbuilding for this series is just so immersive and vibrant and I really hope you fall in love with it like I did. and yes the maps are SO fucking cool. one of my favorite details is how you have maps at both the beginning of priory and the beginning of a day of fallen night (the prequel) but since adofn takes place several hundred years before priory the maps look similar but different and you find out what changed the maps over the course of the story and it's just so interesting

if you'd feel guilty about not responding lol I don't think you should worry about that too much tbh. the server im in has very little author interaction since ive joined (and in general going back through the chat history), it's mostly just taking and theorising about the story. theres different channels for talking about canon content, general stuff, talking about the story etc etc and is more community reader driven so you dont have to feel bad about not chiming in much. I think most people would also be understanding of that.

idk how modding would work but maybe just asking a friend or another writer you know to do that and I think instituting firm rules and block policies is best. its an undertaking so I get why you wouldn't want to start it but im sure there are plenty of people/readers who would help set something up.

idk I just think theres so many things you could talk about, I was mostly just wondering because I was thinking about a sort of spin off/extension of a story of yours and how fun it would be to chat about that.

--Lucas! -- alphonso yelled, snapping Lucas out of his trance making him look at the source. A smile appears on the face of the young Man as his older friend approaches-- we gotta move. the hell's takin' ya so long,kiddo?

--I uh,...can't manage to fix my collar in a way its not uncomfortable-- the flordian Man answered, flustered and mildly ashamed. "Way to go,Lucas" he thought.

--Ah I see-- Alphonso replied with a teasing yet lighthearted smirk, stepping a little closer to his friend and extending his hands towards his shirt's collar-- lemme see what I can do -- it takes a little bit of rustling the fabric but he manages to fix it-- there, all good kid.

--Thanks-- Lucas answered a little more cheery-- I think I'm good to go now

Both make their way through camp, saying hi to some of his fellow teammates. The air smelled of humidity, dirt and mild B.O. Lucas has seen plenty of military camps, in movies at least, and the pictures his dad had shown him; it was different than what he imagined but..it was his home now, at least until he came back home.

--Good thing I fixed yer collar, or Our c.o would have yer head on a pike-- Alphonso half joked playfully pushing his friend

--Oh most defenetly-- the younger Man answered, following along to his companion's joke-- I still dont know how the hell you managed to save my ass from night watch the other day

Lucas erupts in loud laughter, not noticing his companion's face soften at the joy of his friend, Alphonso knew that in war the moments of happiness were few and far between, and he just wanted to try and return the kid to his parents without that Many scratches on him. -- hell, I reckon I was doing my job-- The young Man replied with a big grin-- but also, they were playing a cover of "Hound Dog" by Big Mama Thorton, I had to hear it. It had drums and I.. I guess I just miss playin' 'em

--'m sure you'll have plenty 'o time to play 'em when you get back home kid. Hell, we could even start a band with the rest of the team-- Wheeler answered patting his back.

--I hope so, I miss makin' music. Not radio worth it but..it's therapeutic I guess? -- Lucas added-- I really like the sound of them drums

--I gotcha-- Alphonso reassured-- making music Is fun. Oh hey- we're almost there, hope you don't have a fear of heights

Lucas' eyes filled with excitement-- Don't tell me we're going to fly on a helicopter!

--Yep. It'll drop us close to the objective, but we're still gonna have to walk two days to reach it-- the older Man answered.

--I honestly don't give a crap about walking, It's a freaking helicopter!

Alphonso chuckled at his friend's excitement,he was like a kid in a candy store.-- Alright alright, eager beaver c'mon

After the exciting ride in the helicopter, Alphonso's unit is dropped off. They tredge through thick forests and muddy ground, it had rained the day prior so there was still a mild smell of humidity in the air too. Lucas held on to his rifle just in case, but there was an odd Beauty in the forest. Kinda reminded him of home.

When the night settles in, the unit camps out, they get a small Fire going and some dinner cooked on a stove. Lucas fiddles with his dogtags, unsure of what to help with exactly. His eyes lost in the fire and the dancing flames. Above him the stars shimmer and the moon brings some much needed light to the area, cold air bites at his hands and face, the rest of his body kept warm thanks to his uniform.

--You alright in there kid?-- Alphonso asked patting his back-- ya seem..lost

--What? Oh uhm...'m fine, It's just I dunno what to help with

--Well, maybe ya can just sit here with me n' chat-- Wheeler proposed, he remembers all the jokes he heard about him getting soft over Lucas. The young Man reminded him too much of himself in his golden years, he couldnt help it. But also, he knew the horrors of war and much to his dismay the military ensnared yet another young soul to fight. 

He hoped that if any of them were to make it out alive,it would be Lucas. The boy had his whole life ahead of him, and Wheeler would see it done that the kid would go back home alive.

--Ya sure the other's wont mind?

--It's my damn unit I do what I want-- Alphonso joked, gaining a scoff from his younger companion-- say, ya got anyone waitin' for ya back home?

--My family-- Lucas answered-- n' my dog

--Thats cute. Any girlfriends,boyfriends or partners I need to know about?

Lucas smirked with a blush across his face, he scratched the back of his neck-- not really, haven't had much time to get to know other people, I was the nerd kid in highschool and with boot camp I barely had time to myself, and my drums were my priority. -- then, he processed the rest of his Friend's question-- and what do you mean by "I need to know about"? You plannin somethin'?-- he asked playfully.

--Gotta make a good first impression, y'know? -- Alphonso shrugged with a mischiveous smirk-- plus I want kids to tell my stories to

Lucas almost chokes on his own spit,eyes wide and his blush getting deeper. He looks at his friend and says-- n' ya wonder why people say yer like my dad?

He shrugged-- Guilty, it comes with age I'm afraid -- Wheeler handed him a canteen with water and kept talking-- you'd like to have some mini Lucases runnin' 'round some day?

The younger Man thought for a moment, taking a much needed sip of water. He hands  the canteen back to his Friend and answers-- no clue, I don't personally see the appeal on children but..Maybe It'll change with time, dunno. But I do wanna settle down

-- Watcha thinkin' your ideal Pickett fence life would be like?

--A house, somewhere nice like a lake or a forest-- Lucas started-- a spouse N' a buncha dogs, Good Friends-- he Gently pushed Alphonso-- maybe have my own little band that I get to play with on weekends, and a calm job...Maybe a ranger of some sorts?

Alphonso smiled, making space for another of his teammates to sit with them on the Log. Then he hands lucas the first Plate of their dinner and adds-- ya have it all figured out huh?

The younger Man chuckled under his breath-- not really, but It's a nice thought

Some hours later the unit gets ready to tuck in for the night. Lucas makes himself comfortable on his sleeping bag, turning his back to the Fire,hearing the footsteps of the teammates that were assigned to night watch. He sighs under his breath,missing the comfort of his bed and the weight of his dog against his back, the warm tasty meals and the days spent running around the neighboorhood with his Friends are now Fleeting memories.

--Hey kid?--Alphonso called out taking a Seat beside him, rifle in hand-- everythin' alright?

--Just missin' home-- he whispered back,closing his eyes. The warmth of the Fire soothing his aching bones.

--It'll be alright kid,youll go back home-- he promised, patting his arm-- rest now

--What about you?-- Lucas asked.

--I'll stay up for a little while, don't worry 'bout me-- Alphonso would never admit he was worried like a mother hen. He wanted to make sure the area was safe before he even thought about laying down, he was the captain of this unit for a reason.

Wheeler sees Lucas slowly succumb to sleep and sighs under his breath. "You'll get to go back home kid. I promise" he thought before returning his eyes to the forest around him, in high alert. The only thing soothing him being the shallow breaths and the Rise and fall of his teammates' chests.

Manchester, a little male wooper i got from my brother (he got him from a random pokemon trade), is just a funky little dude. he sometimes just. gums on my hand. which is really weird but also cute. they have small teeth so his chompins dont hurt *too* much unless he gets too excited

Theres FEESH, who's a male clodsire (also from my brother). hes basically bonded with manchester and parents him. its super cute because hell let manchester bite on his little stumpy leggies and its so sweet, theyre also almost always cuddling

Geebole, my female garchomp, is basically my #1 pokemon, her and cirus come with me everywhere, and were working on getting both of them registered as service pokemon! theyre wonderful, and thankfully geebole has sand veil instead of rough skin so shes easier to pet! i got her as a baby gibble too <3 hence her name lol

Psybeam, male dusk lycanroc. i caught him as a regular ol'e rockruff, and as he got older he got a bit more aggresive and bitey. i was expecting him to end up evolving one night, but no! he evolved at like. 5pm on a tuesday and now hes my lovely orange baby! hes named after the move he apparently knows, psybeam, which i didnt know rockruffs could learn!

Hydreigon, they dont respond to any gendered term so i call them Big Bastard. still unnamed other than that, lol. took a lot of training and a lot of repairs to my parents house to get them to not be so bitey and destructive as a hydreigon, but thats why i started working with them early as a deino! honestly at this point theyre fairly sweet, despite the species reputation. theyre a bit tempermental though, and i have to make sure i have PLENTY of chew toys and things they can tear appart else they'll use my matress or something instead. i dont want to have to replace the tv again 😔

Different anon;Personally for me its not the fact that snc has girls in their videos, its what they bring to the video and how them being on them affect snc’s reactions.

For example I cant stand Shea, everything that came from her appearing with Colby, how she treated it and manipulated the situation and extended that reaction for years, how she used him and made her persona surround him. Why if i feel this way why would i watch future videos with her in it? Amber i like, shes bougie but goofy, she doesnt take herself seriously and most importantly she has her own platform and her own niche that has nothing to do with him. She doesnt need him he just adds to her goofy persona.

With Sam and Colby, Celina annoys me, i find her rather immature, Kris is okay alone and although Michelle hasnt appeared, i like her and her content. Amanda makes herself too grand for my liking. Now Kat and Stas, im not gonna sugar coat it, they annoy me. Their content annoys me, them as individuals and the way they present themselves annoy me, i hate that Kat being in the videos takes focus away from the investigation because she ALWAYS just happens to feel something, she freaks out and cant breath (then sit this one out, you dont always have to join your bf on trips). Do i even have to explain why i don’t like her friend? Ms. Im so in shock I can’t sleep but let me go again and again and try to make merch from it. She is a mini Shea with a multi hair tone cheerleader cheering her on. Not investigating at all but needing to be assured along the way. The boys dont focus on investigating when these people are present. It was like Jake and Corey yet theyre women. Its a waste of time. So personally why waste my time watching those videos? I stopped watching everytime Corey and Jake came on for that same reason, their presence becomes aggravating. it was the middle of your summer break. you had just gotten back from a week long trip with some of your good friends. your roommate yangyang, was pretty jealous he didnt get to go as his two best friends did. but of course, becauce your best friend's ex was yangyang, she wasnt comfortable with him there.

you got out of your friends car, walked into your apartments elevator, and clicked on your floor. you walked to the end of the hall to your apartment, unlocked to door and went inside.

you hopped in the shower, and you were peeking out of the shower door with your eyes closed.

This is a full on ramble. But I need to get this shit off my chest.

I love shooter games. I love when they add lore to them. But r6s and Valorant are FUCKING up big time.

Centering lore and interactions on certain characters kills the lore. Every single character has an opinion. There are countless writers waiting for an opportunity. Hire them. If you Keep adding characters that dont do anything in the lore (like adding operators and then not using them lore wise, ex: jackal) then...you shouldnt have lore its like the characters dont exist

Jackal has no content. The elite skin HAS THOSE SHITTY GOGGLES. theres no New lore of him and the kali and ash storyline is getting no-where. Realeasing lore every time theres a New season doesnt help. UBISOFT isnt shit at writing because they made ASSASINS CREED. it has an amazing story telling and writers. They have no excuse for this.

1) they have countless characters and they Keep adding more and more.

Jackal, flores, capitao, goyo, amaru, Maverick and countless more characters have interesting story lines. Amazing personalities and are full of possibilities And potential. Its good to expand the lore.

2) the ash and kali story line:

Its getting no-where fast. We are updated every once or twice a year. No New voicelines or story telling resources. It was fun at first...now? Its just ..Boring. yes. Kali is up to something. What? Fuck knows! We dont know. Are they also evil? Is kali sending info? To whom? Why? What are they planning? We dont have a FUCKING clue. No idea as far as motives go.

3) r6s extraction

Look. I wont lie I think its cool they expand to the chimera thing w rainbow. But dude. They cant handle r6s' lore. Whose to say theyll do a better work on r6E.

They recicle characters. UBISOFT you can do better.

That amongst Many other things ruin a games lore posibilities. Bad management.

now about valorant:

Okay I get it, you guys have 3 people on the lore team. But its riot games. They made LOL and the lore they have. Is crazy extensive. THEY MADE A SHOW. THATS HOW MUCH LORE YALL HAVE.

Again. Plenty of writers. Maybe its not as easy as hiring them but guys. You are a big company. Im sure you can sort this out.

The Twitter takeover is shit. There. I said It. Four tweets (breach had TWO) some vids and to figure it yourself you go. Cyphers takeover was all about chess. Character have layers. His past has plenty of oportunities. You cant leave it at "his family is deceased and he blames himself".

The chess tweets were probably a publicity stunt for....valorant...chess? Okay. You do you.

Its a shooter. The chess board can be its own separate merch campaign. These takeovers should be for lore only, the community is asking nonstop for more lore. Intricacy its fun until its not. Lore thats too complicated to understand or crack Open Will eventually tire the fanbase and they'll move on to "greener pastures".

You made a shooter and want to add lore to it? Okay. Make it. Fix the issues that come up and Keep the lore going. Its story telling. Its supposed to be entertaining. Not a hook to boost the numbers up when the playerbase starts dying down.

The Twitter take over is not being fruitfull. When you favor characters over others, thats the problem not everybody likes the character youre focusing the content on.

Misterious characters like chamber, cypher. OMEN OR VIPER cant Keep their secrets forever. Maybe lore wise they can. But you cant Keep the lore away from the fans

Let me explain.

Cyphers secrets can be kept unkown to the characters inside the lore. But the fanbase Will not take that shit much longer. They Will get burnt out and tired.

Chambers motives can be kept unkown to brim or viper. And though chamber is quite New. Theres little to no info as to why they do it

Omens and vipers past and how they link eachother can be kept a secret from the characters inside the lore. Furthermore. Its a good way of saying that whatever went down WAS BAD BCS EVEN OMEN AND VIPER DONT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT. But the fans Will tire of not knowing.

There has to be a balance. When the lore is the only thing that keeps bringing New fans in, Thats the problem. Adding games to the Franchise when you can barely Keep the existing games running. Thats the problem.

There has to be a balance. For me its basic storytelling. The best example is overwatch.

Bleach Canon Vs. Studio Clown Episode 1

Intro to the series

WARNING: Long read but theres plenty of pictures

The first deviation we’re greeted with is what the anime presents as the arrival of hollows into the human world. With a likely artistic rendition of them forming from the shadows of Hueco Mundo and dripping/bleeding over into the human world like splotches of ink, after which they disappear - unable to be perceived by humans.

A/N: Which, kubos to the anime, is rather neat.

The anime also decided to incorporate the first volume poem which is the thematic beginning and a great establisher of the mood/themes of Bleach, which roughly translates to: 

我らは 姿無きが故に それを畏れ

“We fear that which cannot be seen”

And then they curiously add a line to this poem? 

姿無き故に敬う

”We revere that which cannot be seen"

A/N: Which, initially seems on brand with the spiritualism of that “which is not seen” - the shinigami, DEATH itself if you will. However, unlike the themes of “fear” and “fear of death/the unseen”, “reverence” is not really a theme prevalent or definitive for bleach. Reverence is not particularly reserved for death or death gods, but antagonists with themes of divinity/the Soul King himself, but I digress.

Next off the bully scene has a couple of missing/reworded lines, as well as some of the delivery changed, but overall it’s not significant enough to mention.

I also wish they’d kept Ichigo’s shit yourself scary face from this moment right here, since it really underlines how serious and personally invested Ichigo is in bringing small justice to the souls of the departed, but I can only pray a future remake does include it.

v Karma delivery, bitch

Then for some reason the next scene is changed significantly:

In the manga, it builds up slowly to Ichigo’s reveal of supernatural abilities with the iconic TM character profile intros (which I can see why weren’t recreated in the anime, but I sure wish they put them in....)

with him spooking the bullies off with the ghost girl right behind him

Versus his scary face doing the job instead.....

It’s a small change, and I can see why it would be opted for - we don’t really know if they even saw the ghost in the first place (then again you could argue that would spook them anyway). There is a tonal difference in the long run though. The manga emphasizes once again *why* ichigo is scolding them in the first place - he sees the people disrespected by them knocking down the vase, he wants them to acknowledge their actions *because* in his mind, there are real victims he knows from it. While in the anime, since the ghost is not yet introduced, it feels more like “you are disrespectful to the dead” in a more generalized way vs. him actually being acquainted with the dead and treating them like the living. 

(Again, not sure why change it so much at all........the suspense and reveal are in the manga just the same.... but ok)

As well as cutting off this small moment where you can see Ichigo’s very human (and cute!) interactions with the ghosts. To him they’re just as real as the living, and he lends them a hand whenever they ask for help.

Also lmfao this 4kids level of censorship.....

It goes on rather faithfully for a while, no significant omissions, then Pierrot decides to randomly replace Yuzu’s lines with Karin??

Manga:

Anime: 

Which is an odd choice, given that not only does Yuzu sense ghosts just fine (albeit at a much lesser level than her family) and that later comes into play with Fishbone & Grandfisher, but Karin literally later admits that she doesn’t even want to acknowledge their presence, so why the change....?

They also cut short Karin’s little talk about Ichigo’s stats, which is a fair change for screentime’s sake, but mentioned for the record.

There’s a bit of a divergence with Yuzu lore, when the manga explicitly states she sees them, but not “clearly”, the anime focuses on her barely sensing them. I guess it doesn’t matter that much in the long run, since she is not that prevalent in the story, but it’s here for the record nonetheless.

Also this next bit was removed, probably for the sake of pacing (which, totally fair!!), but it’s funny and I love the Kurosaki family so here it is:

It does make the flow a bit better in the manga, since this talk of selling his talents distracts Ichigo and creates an opening for his father to strike, in the anime, the same is done with Ichigo just randomly saying 

and thats where his father attacks him, which isnt really an issue, just kind of funny of how the manga is like:

Ichigo’s distracted by his sisters plotting to sell him out and hence Isshin has his chance to strike back

vs the anime being like:

Ichigo randomly thinks about dinner mid convo about ghosts and thats what distracts him from play-fighting with his dad 

gfdkhlgfdg okayyyy....moving on 

In the manga this scene is interspliced with Ichigo’s inner monologue about the nature of his powers (with hip jargon like “for real” courtesy of Viz ) 

(but my beef with Viz translations are for another day)

Also the line about “He told me more ghosts than ever have been haunting me” has been given to Karin for some reason, probably to make her feel more included in the scene/Ichigos life.

Notably, Isshin’s response is changed from “What?! He talks about stuff like that with you (Yuzu, singular)” to “What?! He talks about stuff like that with you guys?” as well, again probably to include Karin more into the dialogue. (Mmmm ok....)

Minor detail, but Karin’s lines has been changed to more “boyish” speech structure in the Japanese dub, which may seem insignificant, but ...... that is for later.

This little exchange

 is replaced with: 

Which, seems innocuous adaptation differences, but Yuzu’s lines keep decreasing and it’s a short enough moment to like....include and establish how motherly Yuzu is acting towards Ichigo.....but ok...huh. 

And now we get into the big boy changes.

So, probably for the sake of grounding the supernatural element of the series, the anime decided to skip time to the next morning and introduce the hollow attacks with a news report.

Which.....is an interesting choice. I am assuming this is addressing how the real world perceives the hollow attacks, which Bleach doesn’t put too much effort into addressing, but very soon after this we learn about stuff like memory replacement and other various technology to keep things under wraps so this is either redundant or implying that shinigamis have not been doing their job, which hm......

Next off is the bizarre choice to paint Isshin out of the picture for the night

Not sure why, but ok

Again, where’s the shinigami with their Kikanshinki (memory replacement devices)??? Pierrot where’s the lore coherence......

Anyway, Ichigo goes to replace the girl’s vase, but suprise-surprise she’s gone-zo. Wonder what happened to her.....

(And....again, people vehemently don’t want a reboot when the anime looks like this? )

So Ichigo hears a scream and a hollow scream and follows the sound (Ok?).

Totally random hollows attack. Which Ichigo somehow has never seen so far? Mind you, this isn’t like in the manga, where Fishbone was sent by Aizen specifically after Ichigo to make him aware of it. These are random-ass hollows attacking people, so how come Ichigo suddenly sees them. Ya coulda played it safe Pierrot, and stuck to the book, but we got plot inconsistencies episode one so let’s party.

The girl is, of course, not eaten and they run away.

She trips at the most inconvenient moment. (can ghosts trip? Ghost don’t even have legs in japanese lore and Kubo draws them floating around so okkkkkkkk)

(ok ok, im just being petty, bUT YKNOW)

(convenient tripping on deadass levelled ground is convenient)

(also God I really want that bag Ichigo’s got on his shoulder, it looks so nice)

Random-ass hollow closes in and 

BOOM

Rukia

(Now, if the rest of Bleach and the manga didn’t exist I would like this moment. We get a glimpse into Rukia’s abilities, into shinigami as a concept and we don’t really get to see her slice and dice hollows that much overall so the moment itself is rad in isolation.

Now, unfortunately for Pierrot’s screenwriters, Bleach manga exists and so does it’s lore, which again, would not be inconsistent with each other if the adapation was faithful. Now, Ichigo sees a shinigami, for some reason, for the first time in his 15 years of life. All of a sudden. 

You could argue, that much like in the manga, this is all part of Aizen’s plan TM, but like, she literally leaves right after leaving Ichigo gaping in awe ghfkjgdf. Why’d Aizen give him an appetizer, I really don’t understand how this change is benefitting the narrative in any way. It’s ....dare I say....generic.)

Rukia yeets the hollow

(why is this kid suddenly not wearing shoes?)

and goes off on her merry way, leaving Ichigo shooketh

ALSO RUKIA MA’AM THERES A FUCKING STRAY GHOST RIGHT AT YOUR RIGHT????? ISNT IT YOUR LIKE....JOB.......... TO HELP GHOSTS MOVE ON??? i know killing hollows is the fun part, but like ghjkfdlgfd ??? are you gonna ignore her???

So after this wholeass pointless detour (you’ll see why it’s pointless in a moment)  we timeskip again (the filler is strong in this one. These 6 minutes were worth not coming up with something cohesive and removing scenes that actually make sense ah yes)

Ichigo is in deep thought TM about who tf is the stranger he’d just seen. Likely mulling over the monsters and how this person was able to slay said monsters. Probably thinking how unusual they are.

and as if on cue

the stranger makes their presence once more

....

Now let’s briefly address what happens in the manga instead.

Instead of the whole timeskip scene with the fight, Ichigo simply returns to his room on the same day, and oddly enough recognizes the species of the butterfly he sees? (nerdy boi! nerdy!! boi!)

rukia arrives much the same

(With the little text emphasizing how he’d never been aware of soul reapers, which is unsurprising given their secrecy, and makes sense in the long run since their first meeting is specifically orchestrated by Aizen. Two species that werent meant to interact brought together by his schemes.)

Back to the anime:

Ichigo pauses to ponder who tf they are and why the fuck they’re there.

and then the anime has the gall to suddenly revert to sticking to the manga, which like.... Ichigo kicks her for no reason? I guess because she isn’t answering? Even though Ichigo knows she has a sword and can wield it? Reckless boy.

Manga Ichigo thinks she’s a burglar, therefore, unsurprisingly, is comfortable kicking her outta his house. It’s a silly moment, but it also shows how accustomed or stupidly brave he is with the supernatural.

In the anime Ichigo asks her who she is instead of all that, and she responds pretty similarly to the manga

AND THE NEXT SCENE IS WHERE IT CLICKS WHY THEY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO REMOVE ISSHIN FROM THE HOUSE.

(Ichigo and Rukia addressing the pointless filler, this leads nowhere)

Rukia check him out like she’s checking if the oranges on sale dont have mold on them 

slapstick ensues

and Rukia decides to answer his question.

Vs. the manga in which Isshin doesn’t leave his children home alone for some random conference and is actually used very efficient for two reasons:

1) building up on the burglar gag with actually funny slapstick that is based on a previously established joke

2) Instead of Rukia just saying “oh usually people can’t see me”, we get an actual demonstration of it, the reader gets to see “oh Isshin can’t see her - she must be a spiritual entity,” which further clicks with her surprised reaction at him being able to kick her in the first place.

The next scene is the classique Pierrot censorship.

Ghost girl runs away from what I’m assuming is Fishbone.

Aside from not showing her get eaten, the scene is pretty much delivering the same message, 

bUT

BECAUSE OF THE STUPID ASS FILLER WITH THEM MEETING RUKIA BEFORE THIS, I CAN ACCUSE RUKIA OF NEGLIGENCE.

UNLIKE THE MANGA, where Rukia arrives the night before and is specifically seeking Fishbone, therefore having no time to help this girl pass away,

could have been prevented if SOMEONE DID THEIR FUCKING JOB THE DAY BEFORE VVVVVVV

(I rest my case. Thank you Pierrot for making Rukia either negligent or an idiot. Awesome, And mind you, these changes were unnecessary. The manga’s pacing is fine. They could’ve extended scenes. But nope, had to go for making them meet beforehand.)

Anyway, we get to see some actual stakes in the manga

The next scene which is this in the manga 

has two changes to it. Firstly, obviously Isshin being consoled by Yuzu isn’t included since he isn’t home in the anime, and even if he were, I can see why that would be removed, cute as it may be.

And secondly, due to them having met prior Ichigo asks two additional questions:

And Rukia nods at both, which means she acknowledges that she had seen the girl the hollow was after and yet did nothing to help her pass on. 

(Reminder the Bleach anime was in production WAAAAY past the first 4 volumes, which gave a good general idea of the series, which y’know, was fine to adapt as is.

You’ll see these changes add up into becoming inconsistent with further Bleach lore. There’s a reason people call Bleach a hot mess, and I’m afraid Kubo ain’t really it.)

Anyway  in the manga, where Ichigo has reason to be distrustful of her and her claims since y’know hes never seen her or a shinigami in action, but has enough proof that she’s a ghost bc his dad didn’t see her, he simply dismisses her before she can reply, and instead of just getting angry for being called a pipsqueak

she shows both Ichigo and the audience proof of her spiritual powers by binding Ichigo and forcing him to quietly listen to her explanations.

(To reiterate - Anime Rukia  has to verbally try to convince Ichigo WHO SAW HER FIGHT A HOLLOW THE OTHER DAY that shes no ordinary ghost. And because of that, she has no other reason to use Sai on him other than that shes mad she was called a pipsqueak bc she just tried to verbally convince him shei is a shinigami. When they could just adapt the manga and have her both demonstrate her powers and put him in his place at the same time. Wild.)

Anime Rukia keeps her sketchbook in her kimono

Manga Rukia keeps it at the titty

Yep, which you neglected to do the day before,

she literally says “With the konso I did just a  moment ago” like she used the word before. Like you can contextually get it, but why cut that line out of the dialogue if you don’t change the next line it’s referenced in?

There’s also a dialogue change from the manga’s well, Viz uses “vaporize” which is not a bad choice given the specific wording Kubo uses, but the original says 

昇華 • 滅却

sublimate/convert • extinguish

which is a clever little nod/foreshadowing to the nature of souls in bleach and that they can be “converted” in and out of a hollowfied state. 

While the anime just says “to slay hollows”, and albeit it lacks the little nod the manga has to offer, I can’t see how they’d include it in the anime at that stage so I’m fine with them simplifying it to like, an exorcism.

A better question then Rukia - WHY DIDN’T YOU SEND OFF HER SOUL????

Speaking of the manga, this little moment is missing:

Since there is no pointless filler that would make him ask about the ghost girl therefore exposing Rukia’s slacking off of her duty, Ichigo realizes that there must be a hollow nearby bc in the manga he actually has braincells to spare. 

Also wiping off the Baron’s moustache moment is gone 😢

Missing and dearly missed is also this moment, which consolidates how protective Ichigo is of his family. He only needs to hear Yuzu scream to click that the hollow is nearby and his family is in danger. I feel like anime Ichigo should be even more worried since his sisters are alone but ok??

Also foreshadows their dynamic of Rukia trying to stop his reckless attempts at pushing himself to protect his family, bc yknow....she has her own Kaien trauma to process.

Next off....

They were very eager to give Yuzu’s lines to Karin just a couple of moments ago but now this whole exchange:

Where we see a very pragmatic yet soft side of Karin

She doesn’t know what is happening, and doesn’t expect her brother to fight it - he just wants him to be safe, because she loves her family. At least warn him before it gets to him and hurts him.

is replaced with this:

Yuzu, sweetie, what do you think he can do to achieve that.

I guess at least Anime Ichigo tries to get Rukia to do her job as she looks down on Yuzu in silence. 

But compare it to the manga:

and also paper planes by jon bellion but specifically for after rhodey tells tony he’s gonna join the air force and tony is worried but doesnt know how to show it and they have like a chill night in and all tony can think about is how stupid he is and how he’s such a coward because he cant get himself to tell rhodey that hi!! i love u!! and im scared to lose u and that you’ll get hurt and maybe die or smth!!

when rhodey finds out about how tony was raised (going with mcu, where tony wasnt physically abused but more emotionally neglected and ignored by howard and always talked down to and compared to others and wasnt treated like he was worthy and never was told he was loved and everything like that) he gets PISSED. like he is MONUMENTALLY angry. and it takes YEARS for him to find out about this too. and it actually puts a bit of a strain on their friendship for awhile when they meet too

like rhodey knows about the starks obviously and he assumes tony is going to be this obnoxious arrogant rich boy asshole and is so not looking forward to being roommates but he was raised to have an open mind and give everyone a chance, but tony was raised to be wary of everyone and keep his walls up and his emotions in shackles because whatever he shows can be used against him, so they clash, you know? they dont fight or anything but theres tension bc it isnt right and they dont get each other.

rhodey tries to be nice and tony doesnt understand nice because his only example of nice is jarvis and his mom and even then his mom and jarvis are always off with his dad so he barely sees them so its still rare for him to experience the nice of them so he doesnt know how to be around someone nice all the time, and so he gets defensive and thinks about how howard drilled it into him to be wary and he thinks maybe rhodey isnt ACTUALLY nice but someone PRETENDING to be

and rhodey starts to feel justified in assuming the worst about tony stark because tony is all cold and distant and rude and is about to stop the keeping an open mind thing about a month into their first year but then he comes back to their dorm early from class one day and tony doesnt come in so rhodey is just standing there and watches for a minute as tony sits there staring down at his twenty sixth attempt at a letter he wants to send his mom becauss he knows his mom likes letters even though he could just call but they havent really called him (howards fault but he’s fourteen still and its hard to rationalize that howards busy life and controlling thumb extends past his son) and rhodey is just confused because tony just suddenly sighs and sniffles a bit and murmurs “this is so stupid” and crumbles up the paper and throws it in the garbage and rhodey cant help but peer into it and barely sees the words hey mom scribbled at the top and that. that. hm. okay.

so rhodey keeps trying because he wasnt supposed to see that but he did and now he kind of has a feeling that maybe tony isnt all that cold and distant and rude as he seems, maybe he just doesnt really know how to be any different, so he thinks about all the subtle little ways that his family has shown him they care about him and starts to invite tony to go get food or to study together even though neither of them really need to study or to help each other with assignments or just anything thats mundane enough to not raise suspicion but still starts to open the door and make tony relax around him just that little bit and then before tony realizes it the end of their first year is there and theyre like friends or something and it hits him that he’s gonna miss rhodey.

for the first time ever there’s someone other than his mom and jarvis that he’s actually going to miss.

rhodey grins at him and says that they’ll be roommates again next year because they have to be and that the summer will be over before they know it and the sentiment is nice but tony spends the summer alone wandering around a house too big and empty after being in a dorm that’s small and has a friend.

but rhodey doesn’t know this. like he knows that tony isn’t the kind of guy he originally assumed but he doesn’t know that he’s literally ignored and neglected and like emotionally and sometimes verbally abused so he’s kind of surprised when the next year begins and they DO end up being roommates again (because tony kind of asked his mom, on a rare day when he got to see her and howard wasnt around, to get mit to make sure they could be) and tony just HUGS him like its been years and they’ve known each other forever but he goes with it and hugs him back because maybe tony’s just more affectionate once he gets to know someone and rhodey is okay w that.

they get closer as the years go by and they graduate from mit together and they’re BEST friends and at the end of the year rhodey invites tony to spend new years eve w his family but tony cant bc howard is having some kind of gala starting at 5 because hes weird and dumb and tony hates it and he also isnt given the option of not going even though he doesnt want to but the entire way there howard drills into him about not fucking up and berates him for all the times he has in the past and when they get there tony is already just not feeling it so he’s like nope!! no!! i simply cannot!!

so he goes in and finds an exit thats in the back and he leaves and finds a fucking payphone of all things and he has rhodeys home number memorized for years now and he calls and someone he doesnt knoe answers and theres music in the background and voices and tony’s entire stomach is in his throat and his heart is sunken into his twisted gut because he just wanted one night where maybe he could smile next to his parents and feel like he fit with them but he couldnt have that and he asks to talk to rhodey and then he is and asks if its too late to accept his invite and rhodey is like yeah of course do u need my address bc its still only 5 pm and its a 2 hour drive between south philadelphia and manhattan so he’d make it with plenty of time before it got to midnight so yay

and tony is like. oh. hm. i dont know how to drive actually. that was a thing that no one ever thought to teach me even though i asked about it about ten million times. and rhodey is used to tony not knowing how to do things that most people their age can (see: the toast) and plus its not uncommon for people from new york to not drive anyway so he doesnt think anything of it and instead asks for tony’s address to come pick him up instead and they’d still make it back by like 9-9:30 so that would work too

and thats when tony is like. well.

about that.

he might be calling from a payphone.

on a random street corner.

and its kind of raining. and he’s cold. and he’s a bit dulled out from everything so he doesn’t really think about the fact that admitting this is going to lead to having to explain what happened and also why and that is happens often. but that doesnt matter because he kind of just wants to be with his best friend and not back at that gala with his dad right now.

rhodey is like,,, ok. ok. wheres a coffee shop nearby u can wait in. and tony thankfully is by a 24 hour one and tells him the name and the street corner its closest to and rhodey is like i’ll be there asap and tony goes and he waits.

a two hour drive turns into an hour and a half because rhodey is Worried™

but when he walks in tony goes from being all dulled out to being all HOLY SHIT because rhodey has a SPLIT LIP and he’s like WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED WHAT THE FUCK WHAT

and rhodey’s like no no its good my uncle was having fun and trying to wrestle with me and he accidentally elbowed me its all good man dont worry about it

tony isnt used to accidentally being hurt tho so he’s still like hmmm but he takes rhodeys word on it and they head out and tony wont say what happened or why he was calling from a payphone ?? which btw tony literally only was able to do bc there happened to be dropped change on the ground because boy would not have change on him ok, but rhodeys like alright lets go with this for now

so they gets to the rhodes house and it is in full swing with family and extended family and adopted family bc they are 100% the family that just adopts the neighborhood kids and the people who have no one else and like ex boyfriends and ex girlfriends even after the relationship ends bc they still are family despite not dating whoever it was they had been dating in order to be introduced to them so its a LOT of people and tony is like. this is semi familiar in terms a lot of people but this is NOTHING like what he has ever seen before holy fucking SHIT

rhodey is just like oh u have a small family then? so ur used to smaller gatherings?

and tonys like wtf are gatherings

and rhodey is starting to get a feel for what might be wrong but just takes tony inside to get him changed because he’s not spending new years eve at the rhodes house in a fucking expensive suit ok

tony is completely out of his element and like he’s not the only white guy there bc again the rhodes adopt people and those people are of every race and nationally you can imagine but he just isnt used to the vibe there are people laughing and sitting close together and playing games and theres music playing but not like classy music its music people can dance to and are dancing to and the food isnt the food he’s used to at galas and shit and nothing is what he’s used to and he just sticks to rhodey’s side like a fucking lost puppy and tries his best not to look like an idiot when rhodey introduces him to people and a lot of them know who he is but dont judge him or assume shit about him bc obviously if he’s friends w rhodey then he’s a good guy and they want to know him and thats enough

but tony is v overwhelmed bc what the FUCK IS HAPPENING this is nothing like anything he has ever experienced EVER

so eventually rhodey can tell he’s getting overwhelmed and takes him inside and lets him have a breather and then asks him about whats going in and thats when rhodey learns about what tonys life at home is really like and. anger.

SO MUCH anger

because not only has every single assumption he has ever made about tony been proven wrong, but now he knows that the best person he knows has never been treated the way he deserves and has never known a true home and comfort and love and safety and

and he’s gonna fix it

and this is the first step

so he takes tony back out and they’re still just friends but this is the day they both quietly realize they might kind of definitely like each other as more because tony is still so confused by the fact that what he knows isnt the normal and overwhelmed by how much there is and how different it is but rhodey holds his hand as a grounding point and whenever it might be too much they move off to the side where they arent completely gone but its less hectic and a bit more quiet and its just nice

tony goes to rhodeys house for every holiday despite whatever howard says

rhodey decks howard the only time they ever meet before tonys parents die and he has the most shit eating grin on his face afterwards that tony cant help but lose his shit laughing his ass off

anyway i didnt mean to ramble for so long about that specific idea so i’ll end the ironhusbands ramble with this one last thought, which is as follows:

rhodey gets hurt in the air force at some point, and it isnt that bad tbh but he does have to go the hospital and shit and gets stitches or whatever idk i dont know what specifically happens i just think it’d be just bad enough that it takes him a few weeks to be able to go back to work but he’s not like OH GOD HURT yk?

but like stated above tony was scared and worried when rhodey told him he was gonna go into the air force so he hears about this and they’re probably like almost 30 at this point because they’re dumb and it takes them forever to get their heads out of their asses (i say this even though in the portal closed it takes them even longer but i digress) rhodey has like his mon his sister his niece visiting him and they were worried but they know hes fine so theyre just talking and in a good mood and then—

door slams open. tony stark enter stage left. disheveled suit, fresh from a meeting he definitely was not supposed to leave, having flown in from maibu the second he heard and then had happy drive him and then got impatient because of traffic and ended up sprinting like ten blocks while happy was like what the FUCK

of course rhodeys family are well aware that these idiots are desperately in love with each other so they’re just like lol ok and just leave the room while tony starts fretting over him like he’s about to die himself if he doesnt know if rhodey is okay and rhodey is like tony tony dude tones stop tony im okay tony stop it

until finally tony just fucking breaks down like full on tears in his eyes voice cracking hands clasped as he leans against rhodeys bed and tells him that he was so scared and he is so scared all the time whenever rhodey is out there because all he can think about is losing him and him getting hurt or dying and it’s maddening and this is when they get their heads out of their asses and kiss for the first time

(irony at its finest bc later when they are married and tony becomes iron man rhodey refuses to not have a suit of his own because if tony is going out there in a metal flying tin can then he isn’t going alone and wow what a power couple)

firstly i’m going to go post tfatws, but i’ll make a bullet point before going into it so if you wanna read up until that point you can but most of this will be random little headcanons based post tfatws

also it isnt like a whole plotline thing like the ironhusbands ones ended up being these ones are more random and kinda all over the place but loosely connected

update from after writing this: i lied

let me start by saying my interpretation of why they are the way they are in civil war is because of steve

thats not saying steve is the bad guy i mean to say that they’re jealous of each other because they thought that THEY were steve’s best friend who the fuck is THIS guy i dont want him here go away

children. they are children.

which i find very funny to imagine from sams pov because he literally is a licensed therapist and would 100% recognize why he’s acting how he is but he’s petty enough to do it anyway

and also he literally was helping steve track bucky down but i like to imagine that sam didnt think they’d ever really find him again and it’d just make him and steve like super mega best friends or something because hes a CHILD

and then from bucky’s pov steve goes through all this trouble to find him and protect him and then this random guy is acting like steve’s best friend and gets to sit in the front seat ??? bullshit. absolutely bullshit. worst thing ever. so stupid.

its like that schoolyard thing where your friend makes another friend and you hate it so much that you do something stupid like color on their drawing or put gum in their hair or whatever but they’re adults with 1. super soldier serum or 2. a superhero reputation/avengers status and suit with wings. so thats a thing.

post civil war i dont think they get much yk. because bucky is out in cryo and team cap is on the run and i doubt theyre able to return to wakanda much, if at all, and then it’s infinity war and then it’s endgame and after endgame there’s the aftermath and the aftermath is a mess

i like to think they have some moments before tfatws though. not many but enough for that slight foundation thats we can kind of see in episode 2 yk.

okay NOW it gets into post tfatws so!!

SO post tfatws everything is different because now they not only have spent all this time together, but they understand each other in a way that they didn’t before. in a way no one ever has. not even steve, who may have known them before, but he isn’t here anymore and he wouldn’t understand who they are now vs who they were before and it’s different.

bucky finds comfort in sam’s home town. sam finds comfort in watching bucky find a home there and he doesnt know why.

also sam treats redwing like a puppy and lets him fly around on his own and gets pet and stuff and bucky acts annoyed but the longer it happens you can tell he’s like “oh my god why is this thing endearing”

bucky has nightmares and sam knows this but bucky doesnt know that sam also has nightmares until one night when they’re still in sams home town and they’re staying on the boat because sams nephews are having a sleepover with some friends and they didnt want to get in the way or smth idk i just want an excuse for them to be on the boat and somewhat secluded from people but bucky already woke up from his nightmare and is out on the deck to get some fresh out and then oop

sam havin a nightmare too

because fucking of COURSE sam has nightmares he has been through some shit too!! not being able to catch riley and everything that happened since meeting steve and thanos and he turned to dust alone in the bushes ok like yes everyone that died were traumatized undoubtedly (peter my baby boy baby im so sorry that you got the worst of it) but bucky was around people but sam was laying on the ground and probably just watched his hands as he disappeared and he was alone and like. jesus christ ok.

and then steve trusted him with every weight and everything that comes with the shield not knowing how much more the shield has when he gave it to a black man and just like he has nightmares everyone in marvel does its a fact

but bucky finds out like this and he is shocked even though he realizes he probably should have been able to guess that this is a thing and he knows so much more about sam now than he ever did but this is how he learns more. he learns about riley. he learns so much.

sometimes bucky has those like “oh shit” moments where he’s like “maybe i was kind of a dick to someone who didnt deserve it” and he already had one of those with sam about the shield but he has another one because he assumed shit about sam when they were being all childish and jealous about someone else being friends with steve but like fuck

steve and sam probably got it

the not catching someone. the way it felt to try and to reach out and to miss and to have to choice but to watch as they fell.

what’s different is that steve got bucky back. he got to have that relief, eventually, even if there was the pain of knowing bucky had been taken by hydra, but at least he knew bucky had made it.

sam didn’t have that. riley didnt make it.

therefore, bucky has his “oh shit”

and bucky was already going soft around the edges with sam (as clearly seen in the last two episodes of tfatws, ESPECIALLY the finale because like did tou SEEZ ALL THE HEART EYES oh my GOD) but it’s this that really makes something in him melt and he just. he loses the last remnants of whatever tension or resentment or whatever negative feeling he may have been clutching onto.

there wasnt much left. but now theres none. now its all washed away.

its gone, and he gets it.

sam is a licensed therapist and he knew the reason he was being all dumb and childish and jealous with bucky was because steve had another best friend but also because steve’s other best friend was the guy that had been a big factor in how him and steve understood each other and how they bonded and it

it had kind of felt like they lost part of that when they found bucky again in civil war and he kind of wanted to blame bucky for it even though he didnt actually blame him at all so all it translated to was that dumb kind of jealous thing instead

but now it’s just them. its sam and bucky and it isnt steve and it isnt about steve and it shouldnt be because its about them. its about the boat and the water and the way they sit and watch the waves while the silence settles over them and the way that bucky says, “im sorry.”

its the way sam says, “me too.”

and bucky says, “you dont have to be.”

its the way they stay there until sarah comes to get them for breakfast and sams nephews convince them to play with them and their friends and the world is still shit and there is so much to do but

but its this and its them and that can wait

it can wait

they can take their time if they want to

maybe they’ve earned that much, at least

(it isn't a fast development because they're a complicated pair and there's so much to the two of them that need to figured out individually before they can even realize how well they work together, but the steps are so much easier knowing that they have the other in their corner and bucky knows that sam's home town is a place he's welcome to go and sam helps him make his own dreary little apartment into something that feels real and tangible with a bed and a couch and when they've become something that resembles stable and they've found a balance and they're okay, that's when they realize that maybe they can try for the more that sometimes bubbles under their skin and that they started to think about the more they spend time together. the warmth that sam feels every time he sees bucky playing games with his nephew and the smile that bucky has to fight to hide and still can't fully suppress when sam stands tall and proud with the shield in its rightful place, and it takes time, it takes work, it takes carefully placed bricks to build the foundation they need, but they get there, and when they do...

when they do, they're already happy, and it just makes them happier, and that's what makes it so much better.

that's what makes it worth the wait.)
