Catra and Adora.
So, I’ve recentally decided to watch the new She-Ra show (though, I suppose you can’t really call it new anymore can you?).
I’ve watched the whole first season so far and I knew going into it that it was going to be a little bit very LGBT. I was looking forward to it and it didn’t disappoint in that regard. The girls all fauning over She-Ra being a muscular 8 foot tall lady was rather funny.
I also knew Catra and Adora are a very commonly shipped pair and so I had a keen eye out for those two in particular.
but…
They had maybe a moment or two of implied romance, but as I analyzed their relationship more they seemed more… sibling-like?
I expect that to change in later seasons, but in the one season I’ve watched so far, nearly all of their interactions can be framed that way.
if I remember correctly in one of the earliest episodes Adora referred to The Hoard as being like a family, and later in the season she described things Shadow Weaver taught her as being “mom things”. So this type of framing is present, if not common in the theming of the show.
As a younger sibling myself, I can see where a lot of Catra’s aggression could come from in such a framing. Picturing her as being an inexperienced and insecure sibling, who looks up to yet is also envious of her Older Sibling. Wanting the power, attention, and praise Adora gets, while not knowing how to get it or not feeling worthy of it.
Especially in the scenes with young Catra and Adora. It gives me heavy sibling energy.
Now, I fully expect this to change as I continue with the show and I’m excited to see how their relationship dynamic changes as it goes on. But it was kinda weird expecting one sort of dynamic and getting rather heavily the other.

I always wondered why they don't nickname Chilchuck to "Chil". Because Chilchuck is quite a long name, it's way easier calling him just Chil. And then this.
It's all the opposite of how it would normally work. Usually, people call each other by their first (or second sometimes) names, but when they're called by the full thing... it means either nothing good is happening, or they're being called in a formal way.
Isn't imposible to think that the party actually called him Chil, since it's his first name and a nice nickname for him. In fact, they probably did, and Chilchuck told them they shouldn't call him that and explained why. They stopped calling him Chil, and accepted calling him Chilchuck for the rest of their lifes, apparently. Actually, we don't see anybody calling him like that until...
Laios tries to get his attention with something that normally would. Calling him his first name, something that he told them specifically not to do doesn't even makes him flinch. And then he's sure that Chilchuck is out of it and proceeds to intervene.
It's such a subtle detail, I don't remember if they call him "Chil" on other panels, if they do, reblog with evidence so we have all the oficial Chil moments here.
