You laid on your side watching as another minute ticked by on the alarm clock sitting on the nightstand beside your bed. For the past two hours, you had watched as the red numbers transformed from 3:00 to 3:30 to 4:00 and finally now 4:43.
You had willed it to stay October 31st just a little bit longer, but against your wishes, it was November 1st.
The Halloween party at Josie’s school had been fun and you had tried to live within that moment for as long as possible.
Josie had been thrilled to win the dumpster diving game, which had been a hilarious sight to witness. Javier had held her by her ankles as she dove into a trash can to find a plastic rat that was tucked into one of the empty boxes near the bottom of the can.
She had found the rat, when none of her classmates had been able to.
Josie’s triumphant grin as she declared herself the Rat Queen had been enough to chase away the anxiety that was now clawing at your stomach.
But then you came home. Monica and Nadia departed for a party downtown. Josie’s braids came out and she traded her Wednesday Addams costume for pajamas and you no longer had anything to occupy your thoughts with.
It felt like a waking nightmare.
Javier has tried to console you. He kept close to you all night, one hand constantly at your waist or your hand or your knee. Like he was trying to keep you grounded. And he did.
But there was only so much he could do to chase away the past, when the past had arrived on your doorstep — unwilling to leave.
It had been a real fear of yours. Even Mitch had reached out to you when the article was syndicated into The Washington Post and The New York Times. Even Good Morning America had rehashed the particulars of the story one Monday morning.
Monica was hiding from her parents, but you had been hiding from your own mother too. And you hadn’t seen her since you were sixteen and desperate to escape.
Before you left for Colombia, you had used your resources to check in on her. Morbid curiosity really. You had forged your own path for yourself, against the odds, and you had wanted to indulge yourself. You had to know if you truly had made the right choice.
And you had. Rebecca was married yet again, settling into her fifth marriage and he had a record a mile long that you hadn’t bothered to comb through. She wasn’t your problem. There was only so far you could carry her on your conscience.
Javier moved behind you, seeking you out beneath the covers as he snaked his arm around your waist, drawing you back against his chest. He sighed heavily, pressing his face into the crook of your neck.
“I can feel your mind racing.” He murmured, brushing his lips against the soft curve of your neck, his breath dancing hotly over your skin.
“I’m sorry.” You whispered, curling your hand around his as you sank back against him. “I have too much on my mind.”
Javier ran his hand over your stomach reassuringly, “I know, baby.”
“I should’ve known. The handwriting was on the wall.” You lamented. “She sees success — she sees happiness and she tries to blot it out.”
He lifted his hand, brushing his fingers over your cheek as he tucked your hair behind your ear. “I’ll be with you. I’m not going to let you deal with her alone.”
“When I was like nine, I spent the weekend with my father.” You recalled quietly, “He would’ve loved you.”
“Yeah?”
“I see so much of how he was with me, when you’re with Josie.” You sighed heavily, nestling back against him more. “But he bought me this really cool bike. It had a basket and a bell.” You laughed as you thought back on that weekend. It felt like a lifetime ago. “It wasn’t much, I’m sure but to a kid… it was everything. I took care of that bike like it was a pet. I always kept it upright when I wasn’t riding it, I would stow it in the garage to keep it safe.”
“And what happened?”
“Rebecca backed over it. Swore up and down that I had left it in the driveway behind her car. Which I never would have done.” You sniffed, trying to ignore the prickle of mushed tears. “My dad bought me a new one, but I kept it at his house. I was nine, but I wasn’t stupid. I knew what she had done.”
“I’m sorry, baby.” He ran his hand down your arm, taking hold of your hand and interlacing your fingers. “We’ll get through this today. Together.”
“I don’t know how she found me.”
“I do.” Javier squeezed your hand. “She apparently followed you from the P.D.”
“Are you fucking kidding me?”
He shook his head. “She’s certainly a piece of work.”
“I don’t want her anywhere near the girls.” You insisted, your voice wavering. “I fought so hard to stay clear of her path. It isn’t fair. She can’t just show up—“
“Shhh.” Javier soothed you, pressing his lips to the spot right behind your ear.
“I just hate this Javi.” You swallowed thickly, rolling onto your back, but keeping yourself close to him. “I thought this year was going to be better. Last year was hell and I felt like I had finally overcome so many of the hang ups that existed because of her.”
He kept his arm wrapped around you, his fingers curled around your waist. “Her showing up doesn’t change any of that.” Javier told you.
“I know that, but…” You shook your head slowly. “And I feel so ungrateful, shouldn't I be happy that I have a mother?”
“No.” Javier kissed your shoulder. “It’s not the same and we both know it, baby. You’ve told me enough about your mother to know she gave up the right of being your mother a long time ago.”
You turned towards him then, resting your forehead against his collarbone. “Thank you for understanding.”
Javier ran his hand up and down the length of your back, “I’m glad you’ve always let me in.”
He had always been the one you told your deepest darkest secrets to. Even back in Colombia, before Josie was even a thought. You spilled your guts to him. You told him everything. Javier was he one person you trusted with your past.
“I love you,” You whispered as you brushed your fingers over his cheek, drawing him in so you could kiss him.
Javier brushed his nose against yours, “I’m here for you no matter what, baby.” He promised, “And if you want me to send her own her way…”
“No, I’ll face her. I owe myself that much.” You sighed, sinking back against the bed, staring up at the dark ceiling above. “What all did she say to you?”
He shrugged, “A few off the cuff remarks.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah.” He clicked his tongue against his teeth, “Apparently I’m not what she pictured for her beloved daughter.”
You snorted, “Trust her to think she knows me.”
“I only took mild offense to it.” He chuckled, running his hand over the length of your side. “It was clear she was trying to get her hooks in.”
“Let me guess…” You rubbed your lips together thoughtfully, pressing closer to Javier like you couldn’t get quite close enough to him. “You’re too old for me?” You reached up and played your fingers through his hair.
“Spot on.” Javier chuckled, leaning down to press a kiss to the corner of your lips, sighing quietly. “How old were you?”
“Sixteen.” You answered quietly, tracing your thumb over the rise of his cheekbone. “My dad died—“
“— and you moved to Philadelphia.”
You nodded. “Mitch and the family lawyer helped me sort out emancipation and enrolling in high school there.”
“And you did that. All on your own.” He reminded you, brushing his lips against yours.
“My dad knew what he was doing. If he hadn’t left me the money, I don’t know what I would’ve done.”
“You would’ve persevered, baby. Have you met you?”
“Or I’d be as strung out as she is.” You turned towards him once more, pressing close to him. You ran your hand from his shoulder down his arm and back again. “Is it bad that I don’t care? I know I should be more empathetic but all I feel is… apathy. I’ve been here before.”
“You’re allowed to feel however you feel, baby. I’m not going to judge you.” He kissed the top of your head. “Especially if you’ve seen this happen before.”
“She gets clean long enough to catch someone new to facilitate her habits.” You hummed softly as Javier laid back and pulled you down with him. He wrapped both arms around you, like he was trying to keep you from getting carried away by your memories. “I don’t want the girls caught in the middle of this. And that means Monica and Nadia too.”
“I know,” He ran his hand down your back, “It’s just going to be the three of us. I’ll make sure she leaves. If she shows up again, I’m not against calling the cops on her.”
You let out a heavy sigh as you let yourself relax against his chest, “I just want this over with.”
 ——
“This is a lovely backyard,” Rebecca offered hesitantly as she gestured around the space. “Will I be welcomed into your humble abode? I’m just dying to see where my daughter lives.”
Your brows rose upwards in surprise.
“I did say we’d meet in the backyard.” Javier interjected, reaching out to rest his hand on your shoulder reassuringly.
“Yes, but that was your decision. My little girl can make her own choices, can’t you sweetheart?”
“If I were making my own choices, you wouldn’t be here right now.” You gritted, “Javier was kind enough to extend my grace than I was willing to.”
Your mother seemed surprised by your response, “I’m trying to make amends for the past. Can’t you see that? How can you deny me the right to see my grandbabies?”
You scoffed, “You have no rights. None. You gave up any chance to have a part in my life when I was very young.”
“Oh, don’t say that.” Rebecca turned her attention to Javier then. “She’s convinced you I’m some monster, hasn’t she? She was such a little trouble maker, what was I supposed to do? Let her run free?” She rocked back in her seat, looking away then.
“That doesn’t sound like amends,” Javier pointed out.
“Javier,” You shook your head, reaching over to rest your hand on his knee. He was more than willing to fight this battle for you, but you could handle it.
He nodded, resting his hand over yours. Your mother’s gaze flickered towards your hands.
“You don’t have a ring.”
“Why would I?” You questioned, suppressing the urge to scream that you were married to the man you loved despite everything in your past that told you to run from allusions of commitment.
“Two little girls out of wedlock?” Rebecca tsked, shaking her head as she set her sights on you. “I could’ve told he was bad news. Just look at him.”
You felt fire roar through your veins as you pitched forward in your chair, “You don’t get to say one bad word about Javier. If there’s bad news here, it’s you mother.”
She feigned injury at your words, “All I ever tried to do was protect you. But everyone else tried to lead you astray. They tried to take you away from me.”
You laughed, the sound coming out almost maniacal. “Who? Dad? God, I wish he had.” You squeezed Javier’s leg, like you were trying to ground yourself in your reality.
“He filled your head with so many lies about me.” She jeered a finger at you, “He was a rotten man. Always trying to drag me into court. Trying to paint a picture that was all wrong.”
“Oh, right. Yeah.” You shook your head. “I guess you probably thought Uldi was a better father, right? Nothing says step-dad quiet like throwing beer on a ten-year-old.”
“Well, he never tried to take you away from me!”
“He was a drug dealer, mom!” You snapped, your voice cracking as you glared at her. “And the fact that I knew that — at ten — speaks volumes. How many people were in and out of our house? All hours of the day.” You looked away then. “Dad never used. I don’t know how you ever ended up with him.”
“Chuck had money.” Rebecca answered, though she seemed like she regretted it the second she said it.
“Is that why you’re here now?”
“What?”
“Money.” You pressed, narrowing your eyes as you focused on her once more. “I bet you saw the article in the paper — figured I was doing well for myself and you thought… there’s a money tree I haven’t tapped yet.”
“No. No!” She held up her hands in defense. “I didn’t think that. I only meant to come here to see my grandbabies. I had to find you again, sweetheart. I missed you.”
“You followed her from her job,” Javier reminded her, his voice tinged with a venom you weren’t sure you had heard since Colombia. “That’s not the correct way to find someone you claim to care about.”
“What would you know?” Rebecca gritted out. “I read the articles. You’re no saint.”
“Never once said I was.” Javier clicked his tongue against his teeth. He released his hold on your hand and leaned forward, elbows on his knees. “I do know one thing, you had to read an article to know jackshit about your daughter’s life, while I was right there beside her for all of it. So maybe you should fucking listen.”
“Did you hear how he just spoke to me?” Rebecca questioned, looking to you then. “Are you going to let him sit there and disrespect me?”
You shrugged, “Are you going to sit there and pull crocodile tears? I remember they worked so well for you in court.”
“I’m clean now, sweetie!” Her voice cracked. “Quit dredging up the past.”
“I wish it were that easy,” You retorted, “I wish there were some magic switch that shut off the past. Because the past gets ‘dredged’ up all the time for me.” You dragged your fingers through your hair as you exhaled slowly. “I’ve almost let the best parts of my life slip out of my hold because of you. Because you managed to fuck up sixteen years of my life and twenty-odd years removed hasn’t fixed me.”
“That’s not my fault!” Rebecca snapped, her voice edging towards hysterics. “If you weren’t such an ungrateful little brat, things would’ve been good. But every time things didn’t go your way, you went running and crying to your daddy. Treating him like some white knight, sweeping in to save the day.”
“Fuck you.” You growled out.
“It’s the truth, sweetheart. Life’s not easy. And you made mine hell every time you made up some outlandish claim about me so you could spend more time with Chuck. What did he have that I didn’t have? You would’ve come running back to me the second you didn’t get what you wanted.”
“This might come as a shock to you, but all I wanted was to feel safe. It’s not normal for a five-year-old to sleep with a chair in front of her door! And I did that. Parents should be chasing the monsters of their child’s closets, not opening the door and letting them in.”
“You were always safe!”
“I saw a man OD when I was thirteen.” Your fingers curled into fists on against the tops of your legs. “I think my favorite part of dad’s place was that I had a bed. A proper bed. You know, something other than a box spring.”
Javier’s head snapped to look at you, his brows furrowed together as he searched your face. Apparently, you hadn’t gotten into these particulars before.
“You think you could do better?”
“I mean I know I can.” You laughed bitterly. “Against all odds I’ve managed to raise two beautiful little girls. Despite constantly worrying that I was going to turn out like you.”
Rebecca switched tactic then, right on schedule. “And I’m so proud of you sweetheart. You’ve done so well for yourself.”
“I have.”
“I’ll admit,” She started. “I was disappointed to read about what sort of man you ended up with.” She gave Javier a look askance. “He’s so much older than you.”
“Mother, it’s only nine years.”
“Who do the girls look like?”
You rolled your eyes, scratching at your forehead. “We’re not having this conversation. Actually, I think we’re done.”
“Twenty-two years apart and this is how you treat me? You’re still that same ungrateful little bitch—“
“That’s enough!” Javier was quick to his feet. “You’re leaving, now.”
“Who do you think you are?” Rebecca questioned, rising to her feet like she expected to square off with Javier.
“The person who has been there for her.” Javier gritted out. “Look, I don’t know if you came here with good intentions or not, but you’ve crossed a line. Multiple lines. If I catch you following her again or anywhere near our house — I won’t need to call the cops.”
You hadn’t seen this side of Javier in a long time.
“Are you threatening me?” Rebecca actually cowered, trying to play into your sympathy. “Is this the kind of man you let near your daughters?”
“Get off my property.” You said flatly. “I don’t want you here or in my life.”
“You’re breaking my heart! You’ve never cared about me.” She cried, “I hope you never know what it’s like to have your daughter turn her back on you! To treat you like a monster.”
“You were a monster, mother!” You snapped, coming entirely unhinged. “It is a goddamn miracle that I know how to have any semblance of a happy relationship. I have been with Javier for ten years!”
It didn’t matter that only half of that was an actual relationship — it was all the same to you. He was a constant fixture.
“How long did your marriages last? Ten months? This is what? Seven? Eight?” You let out an incredulous sound, “I bet you have two pages in the record books. You need to figure out how to be okay with being alone, mother. Because no one is going to be there for you.”
“You would just send your mother away? I raised you for sixteen years and this is how you repay me? You owe me for everything I did for you. I fed you, I clothed you, I cared for you. What did your daddy ever do for you, aside from die and facilitate you stabbing me in the back one more time?” Rebecca sneered at you. “You deserve all the shit you went through. That’s payback for hurting me. All I ever did was love you.”
You took a step back. “I’m going to count to ten and I want you off my property.”
“I’m just going to kill myself,” Rebecca threatened. “That’s what you want, isn’t it? You won’t rest until I’m six feet under! Denying me my right to see my grandbabies. My flesh and blood.”
“They are my children, Rebecca. And their grandmother is dead.” You set your teeth together hard enough that your jaw ached. “You have no power over me, my family, or my future. I don’t want anything from you. I simply don’t care.”
“I’m going to call the cops,” Javier threatened, giving you a wary look.
“I’ll leave.” Rebecca said frantically. “I’ll go. Since I’m nothing to you!” She pointed at you. “I come here to make amends and this—“
“You came to make excuses.” You fumed. “You’re fucking psycho, mother! Get help. Get real help.”
“Won’t you help me?”
“No.” You turned away then. “Javier can you escort her to her car?”
“Yeah,” He nodded stiffly, brushing his hand over your back as he walked past, “You’re leaving now.”
“I’m going!” Rebecca pronounced dramatically. “Since my daughter would sooner see me dead!”
You sank back down in your set, staring at the empty one across from you. She was still ranting as Javier escorted her out of the yard, but you stopped listening.
She hadn’t changed. You had stupidly hoped, deep down, that maybe she was clean. That maybe she had changed. But she was still the same unhinged abuser that ruined your childhood.
How you managed to share DNA with her, made you wonder. Though, you knew you had traits that came from her.
You used to use people. One night stands to make you feel wanted. Lance to fill a void you didn’t know how to fill.
But it wasn’t like that with Javier. He made you want to be a better person — to love and love and be happy. To overcome everything that should’ve held you back.
“She’s gone.” Javier’s hands rested on your shoulders as he leaned over the back of the car. “I told her if she came near our house again I would call the cops.”
“Thank you.”
“No gratitude necessary, baby.” He assured you, pressing a kiss to the crown of your head. “She’s… certainly something.”
“She’s a train wreck.” You sighed, shaking your head as you chewed on your bottom lip.
“People like that… they’ll say anything to get a reaction.”
“Yeah.” You looked down at your hands. “I’m not like her, am I?”
“Baby.”
“I know. I know. I just… that is my worst nightmare. Well, losing you or the girls… this — Rebecca — is a close second.”
“Night and day.” Javier petted his hand over your head. “You’re not your mother, baby.”
“Good.” Smiled weakly. “I think I’m going to go back to bed. Today sucked.” You peeled yourself out of your chair. “Wanna join me?”
He smiled adoringly at you before he nodded. “Whatever you want.”

mtmte liveblog issues 4&5
its delphi time babey
I'm sorry but drift & co look like such fuckin nerds on their scooter things on the cover lmaooo
oh god. seeing the first page just reminded me of how horribly confused i was for this whole little arc the first time i read it. i was like ok, who are all these new characters, and also why does everyone look so similar
anyways now i now what's going on. i love first aid
love the running continuity of rung being the literal only psychologist on cybertron (except for fr*id but that's later). no wonder everyone's fucked up they all have to share a single therapist
ok i find it extremely funny that first aid was demoted from doctor to nurse, as if that's a thing that happens EVER - I mean it'd be one thing if first aid was a nurse practitioner (which i doubt is a position that exists here), at least that demotion would make sense, but like...the doctors i work with don't know how to do most nurse stuff (like BP, cathing, vaccinations, hell even using some of the thermometers - that's all stuff nurses/etc do), so demoting one to a nurse would be a disaster (just like promoting a really good nurse to a doctor would be a bad idea). anyways i know I'm being pedantic but it Be like that when you work in the medical field and read something that has medicine-related stuff in it
i love swerve giving ratchet the tiniest free drink ever lmaooo
is that skids being a rowdy drunk in the bg lmaoooo
unironically i love medical statistics. keep it comin
i love magnus’s giant sternal chestpiece thing. its like a bird’s sternum but without the massive pec muscles attached
i love magnus and rodimus’s dynamic so much
oh pipes....im so sorry but this fun space adventure is going to be not so much fun for you
ratchets ideologies are certainly interesting, and i liked seeing how they changed over the course of the story
drift: why would i be SCARED of the DJD, I've got a SWORD, two swords even,
hvbhajkhfbsdjkf pipes really said ‘oi, you two - what's this, then?’ that's the most british fucking thing, that's literally something i say when I'm doing an overexaggerated british accent, oh my god,
PIPES IS SUCH A TINY DUMBASS. ILY SIR BUT WHAT ARE YOU DOING
aaaand now you're covered in dead bodies, pipes. look at your life, look at your choices
drift epic sword moments
drift confirmed for the kinda weird guy who has katanas that he uses to like, cut up fruit and water bottles in his backyard while rodimus films him
‘i thought i heard...bickering’ lmaooooo
ah, so its covid
this arc is how i feel working in healthcare lmaooo especially now that i probably have covid
so rewind condensed the entire war into an 11 second long cringe compilation. nice
seeing the mechanical stuff past tailgate’s visor is so cool
poor tailgate, this guy is getting slammed with history from multiple sides. and like, bias is inevitable in ANY sort of recounting of events, especially controversial historical events, so poor tg just kinda has to take it all in and decide who to listen to
that’s...not really how immunity works, guys. also, you shouldn't be exposed to so much disease with proper ppe usage
is there even such thing as ppe in the transformers universe?? there are fluid- and contact-transmitted illnesses, so there SHOULD be
is there even OSHA in this universe??????? unbelievable
first aid, holding a giant fucking claw clamp: we haven't tried EVERYTHING............
first aid read a human wikihow article on how to jumpstart a car and took notes
i love tailgate’s ‘mom says its my turn on the xbox’ pose
tailgate has a point - he’s from pre-war times, where things weren't as grey so of course he would try to divide the two sides into ‘good guys’ and ‘bad guys’
CYCLONUS BE NICE DONT HIT UR FUTURE HUSBAND
go get some character development and then maybe you'll feel better
seeing the word quarantine is making me twitchy w/my possible month-long complete isolation quarantine on the horizon
drift pulling his swords on pipes and ratchet pushing down drift’s arms...lmao
poor pipes...even tho this is completely his fault, its still rough
also jesus, pharma and ratchet look so goddamn similar, reading this was so confusing the first time around
drifts idea of subduing pipes involves turning into a cool car and also posing with his sword
also. never gonna be over drift’s massive thighs. jesus man
ooof now drift has the rona. ouch
poor drift, his covid realization is getting overshadowed by pharma being flung around
first aid bustin thru w/the epic medical nipple clamps and some Big Boi Backup
ok that's an epic pre-beatdown speech from fort max right there, daym
im just gonna continue on w/issue 5 now for continuity’s sake. yay!
the cover of tailgate in magnus’s autobot school is so cute
and we open with an incredible shot of fort max str8 up ripping a guy in half. i mean, to be fair, he DID just give an epic speech about how much he was gonna do that, and he certainly followed thru
yeahhhhh, fort max is not doing so well atm
when he puts that dudes head in his chest vent thing and then snaps it shut....man
also i fucking LOVE when their faces are shaded all in black w/only the eyes/mouth fully drawn...fantastic stuff
ratchet: phew i am not equipped to deal w/this level of Fucked Up Mental Trauma. u good m8?
ratchet is already writing up a referral to rung for fort max as this is happening
drift is just laying on the ground dying like, oh hey yeahh I'm still here too
i fucking love when punctuation is drawn in story - like here where first aid has a little ? over his head....fav
ratchet holding drifts hand ;_;
ok tbh ambulon having switched sides 10 yrs ago is wild bc like, 10 years is barely any time for these guys, especially in a war that lasted 4 million years. that would be like a human switching sides in a war like, 3 months before it ends. probably. i sense some math bs, I'm just extrapolating here
all that mexican standoff shit is going down and first aid is just like But That's None Of My Business
ah so ambulon is an asymptomatic carrier
and there's first aid with the save! iconic
pharma calling ratchet ‘buddy’ hbvakjdsbfhkasdf
ooooh i love that they figured it out - and i love that twist, that transforming is what triggers the start of symptoms. remember when drift turned into a cool car? yep
s/o to Ambulon Transformers for helping me in my medical terminology courses, bc now ill always remember: Leg(tm)
also this explanation makes a ton more sense (in universe, at least) than the whole ‘i guess we as medical staff have been exposed to enough Germz that we’re more immune to this or something’ theory
ah, i love the meaningless (to me) alien robot medical jargon
drift and ratchet hhhhhhhhh
‘I'm too wide’ fort max L O R G E
also once again drift is forgotten in favor of a bunch of other dramatic stuff happening vbhjksdfbjhskdf
godddd i love tailgates little flashbacks where we see how Important and Special he is, complete with his ‘bomb disposal’ arm label...augh its so good!
and tailgate’s autopedia page even reflects his lies! like, did tailgate go edit that first thing upon waking up??? seriously, I'm fascinated by tailgate’s meticulous dedication to his fake life
also the fact that ultra magnus believes everything he read on autopedia is amazing lmao
ultra magnus: you think somebody would just go on the internet and tell lies?
fuckgin love magnus’s long ass name/title placard
tailgate hvbahjkdfbjhaskf i mean, he’s gotten the abridged version of everything else, of course he would assume that’d be the case here too...but not on magnus’s watch
magnus cant even say ‘fun’ hvukdasdbjfkjsadf i love my uptight law dad
love rung implying that upon questioning, he would easily divulge a patient’s name and maybe even information about said patient’s treatment while under him....love the disregard for patient confidentiality and hipaa in general
not that hipaa seems to exist here, at least not in a fully realized form
also i mean the above genuinely, i think rung’s tendency towards at least slight malpractice is very interesting
poor red alert....super bad luck that HE was the guy to get roped up in that overlord business
I'm glad that, at the very least, red alert was able to prove that he was Actually hearing something to rung, rather than get brushed off completely
god magnus and tailgate’s interactions are golden
also tg is much more sarcastic/quippy than anyone gives him credit for tbh
‘thought warfare,’ ultra magnus says with complete seriousness. god i fucking love this comic
now i can tell pharma apart from ratchet bc pharma has let his true Petty Bitch nature emerge and you can see it in his expressions
the whole ‘tarn is addicted to transforming’ thing didn't really go anywhere, right? i feel like i noticed that on my second readthru as well
also pharma is such an interesting character given the context of him like, trying to strike a bargain w/the djd to keep them from destroying delphi, but that arrangement inevitably kinda making him lose it as the situation escalates. he’s also just really entertaining bc i feel like he kins the joker or st and probably gets into really heated arguments w/people on twitter about just abt anything
‘sound bomb’ i love this comic
another important facet of pharma’s character becomes clear around this time as well - how he’s really into ratchet. i also choose to read them as awful exes tbh, it makes their dynamic even more entertaining
‘killmaster, with the wand’ is one of my favorite running remarks lmao
also, was killmaster even a character before mtmte? or, if he was, was he an important one? it would crack me up the most if he literally didn't exist at all, but any way you spin it is still funny
ratchet’s tiny humansona facing off against pharma is wild
‘I'm miles from anyone i truly care about’ brutal, ratchet, drift is dying like 2 floors away (im p sure)
SUDDENLY DRIFT IS HERE, ACTUALLY
oh don't worry first aid, that sure isn't the last we’ll be seeing of pharma
so like, did first aid save everyone by posting that data log to his wreckers fan blog or something? lmao love it
i love the pretty fucked up reveal of ratchet having stolen pharma’s hands. like, damn dude.
and that wraps up the delphi arc! our first true ‘arc’ of mtmte, and a fantastic one at that. short and snappy and fresh, with some very clever writing and cool new characters, and a lot of great plot threads to be picked up later. plus, we got to see the beginnings of drift and ratchet’s whole thing (and ratchet and pharmas whole thing). and the lost light gets some much needed extra medical staff, so everyone wins!
well, we’ll see how fort max feels about this all pretty soon.....

i am you
Tumblr media
title: i am you
characters: reader x seo changbin of stray kids
genre: slice-of-life, fluff, bad boy!Changbin, (sort of) enemies to lovers au, high school au
warnings: language, slight violence (fighting scene)
word count: 2839 words
a/n: I wrote this after reading an article of what I Am You is mostly about! The actual song may turn out different, but I really wanted to write this. Hope you guys enjoy, and don’t worry, you’re not alone.
-
Seo Changbin liked to think of himself as a bad boy. However, not many people shared the same thought. To them, he was just an annoying ass. To you, he was just an incredibly annoying ass. Both of you attended the same music academy when you were in elementary school and your mothers had tried so hard to make you friends… to no avail.
You just couldn’t stand him and his antics; he really had a gift to piss people off. Your juniors at school really feared him, but you and your friends knew he was nowhere near lethal. At first you tried to befriend him (as per your Mom’s request), but you had long given up. Past experiences taught you it was easier not to deal with him.
Your classmate Yoo Jeongyeon tapped your shoulder, causing you to turn around. “Y/N, will you stay for study session tonight? We’re planning to skip,” she asked while pointing at Im Nayeon and Kim Yugyeom behind her.
Before you could find a way to refuse politely, Changbin rushed to your side, wrapping an arm around your shoulder. “Y/N wants to study tonight, that’s so freaking obvious. Why are you trying to drag them to the dark side, Yoo Jeongyeon?” he sneered.
“Because Y/N is our friend, Seo Changbin. This has nothing to do with you,” Jeongyeon retorted. You glared at Changbin as you removed his arm from your shoulder. “You’re such a prick,” you hissed before turning back to Jeongyeon. “Sure, I’ve wanted to skip since months ago. Where are we going tonight?”
 -
You were packing up your things, preparing to leave before the teacher came. You started to regret your decision. Suneung* was just a few months away and you shouldn’t be wasting your time like this. As usual, Changbin always managed to embarrass you in public, and you always tried to defy him any chance you got.
“Y/N? Ms. Park is asking for you.” Yang Jeongin, your junior, stood by the door. Your eyes met Yugyeom’s, who was already cursing your homeroom teacher off. “Do you know why she needs me, Jeongin?” you asked.
“She wants you to help her with something. I don’t really know,” he answered, causing you to sigh. “I guess no escape for me today, guys. I’ll see you tomorrow,” you said, following Jeongin out. When you saw him heading to the rooftop, you began to feel suspicious.
As soon as you spotted Changbin at the rooftop, you could feel yourself exploding. “Ah. Thank you, Jeongin. I told you Y/N would take the bait. They’re such a teacher’s pet,” he stated, smirking towards you.
“Don’t you have anything better to do?” you scolded, knocking his head with your hand. It was something you tried to stop doing to him, but annoyance and rage always beat you whenever you had to deal with Changbin. Jeongin whispered a soft goodbye before running off, and you stared at his back with pity.
“Stop threatening that boy, he’s a good kid. And he looks up to you,” you added. Changbin raised his eyebrows at your statement. “You’re telling me he looks up to me?”
You sat beside him, wondering what possibly made him like this. “He does. You write good lyrics, you sing well, and you’re a rap god. Jeongin wants to be a singer.”
Changbin scoffed, “Now you’re acknowledging my ability?”
You started to blush, but you meant what you said. If there was anything good about Changbin, it was his musical ability. Well, he did well at school too, and he achieved that without really studying. How lucky.
“Okay, back to our original topic. Why did you trick me like this? Do you hate me that much? You don’t want me to have fun just a little bit?” you continued, avoiding his eyes. Changbin shrugged, standing up as the bell rang. “I did it for you. You didn’t want to skip, right?”
You rolled your eyes, hating how he could read you like an open book. “As if,” you snorted.
-
“Finish your worksheets, we’ll check them tomorrow. Class dismissed.”
Everyone in the class let out a relieved sigh. You glanced at your watch, mentally crying when you realized that you had to pull an all-nighter. Chemistry was your biggest weakness, which meant you had to spend all night long to finish all the worksheets.
“Y/N?” your teacher called. “Tell Im Nayeon, Kim Yugyeom, and Yoo Jeongyeon to come to my office tomorrow,” he said. You nodded, feeling Changbin chuckle beside you.
“See? I saved your ass,” Changbin said after your teacher went out. “Don’t be so proud of yourself. You skip study sessions like, 3 times a week,” you quipped, shoving all the papers scattered on your table.
“You know what Y/N,” he laughed, not taking your glare seriously. “I’m going to save your ass twice more.”
Changbin took out your Chemistry worksheets before shoving them inside his own bag. “First, I’m going to take you home. Second, I’ll do these for you so you can sleep.”
You gaped at him in disbelief. Changbin never spent time with you; the last time you went home together was during middle school. Now he just casually offered to take you home like you were best friends.
“Save it, Changbin. I don’t need your help.”
Ten minutes later, however, you were seating on Changbin’s motorcycle. “Will you stop smirking like that and just drive home?” you protested, circling your arm around his waist awkwardly. Changbin lifted his hands in defeat before starting the engine.
He turned back to look at you, securing your grip on his waist. “So feisty. Hold on tight, please. I don’t want your Mom to kill me if you get hurt.”
You pouted and decided to do what Changbin said. You expected him to tease you during the entire ride, but he was silent. He didn’t turn back even once, and honestly, it made you feel a bit lonely.
“We’re here,” he said when you arrived at your house. He helped you take your helmet off, smiling when he finally saw your eyes. You realized that he was also holding your hand, but your heart told you not to yank it away. There was something about this moment, about Changbin, that made you feel at ease. Things were always messy and upsetting whenever he was around, but not tonight. Not in this moment.
“Don’t cram tonight, I’ll do your homework anyways,” he said, the softness in his voice completely shocked you. You could only nod, walking absentmindedly inside. You looked back once again to see him waving at you.
-
The next morning, your heart nearly jumped out of your ribcage when you saw empty Chemistry worksheets on your table. You were ready to lash out on the sleeping Changbin when you spotted a sticky note on top of another stack of papers.
“Copy them. I’ll tell you how to solve these problems later,” it read. You stared at Changbin’s work in awe. He never did homework although he was more than capable to do that. To be honest, you woke up with so much regret this morning, not knowing why you decided to trust Changbin with your worksheets.
You made a mental note to properly thank Changbin later, hoping that he wouldn’t get too cocky about it.
 -
“Seo Changbin, wake up.” You kicked his table. Yugyeom looked up from the detention reflection he was writing. “Did he mess around with you?” he asked. You shook your head as you shook Changbin’s shoulder.
“Yugyeom you’re so slow! I want to go to that new ice cream parlor before it gets crowded,” Nayeon whined beside him then turned to you. “Why are you waking him up anyways?” she wondered, and you just shrugged.
Your friends were now watching you and Changbin with concern in their eyes. “He’s not blackmailing you, right?” Jeongyeon added. “Changbin’s not like that,” you answered, causing both Jeongyeon and Nayeon to gasp.
“Y/N… are you… into him?” Nayeon whispered. “Of course not,” you trailed off as Yugyeom laughed out loud. “He’s just an attention whore, why would Y/N—”
BRAAKKK!
Changbin slammed the table with his fist, causing your eyes to widen. He bored his eyes into yours before grabbing his bag and left, bumping into your shoulder in the process. “What the fuck is your problem, man?!” Yugyeom shouted, only getting a middle finger as a response.
“What is wrong with you all?” you half-yelled. Jeongyeon cocked her head towards you. “What do you mean? He was the one being rude and all,” she said. You sighed, deciding that you had had enough of your friends’ behavior.
“You guys don’t have to be so mean,” you snapped, not giving them a chance to speak as you went after Changbin.
-
“Y/N!” Jeongin shouted. You were about to ask him who beat him up when he grabbed your hand and pulled you towards the school’s gate. “Please help me. Changbin hyung is fighting Bang Chan, and I think he’s going to die.”
“Who’s he?” you questioned, trying to catch up with Jeongin’s fast steps.
“Bang Chan,” the boy answered, and you immediately quickened your pace. He took you to an alley near your school, and Jeongin wasn’t lying when he said Bang Chan (whoever that was) was dying.
“Seo Changbin!”
Changbin stopped at the mention of his name, and Chan didn’t waste his time as he kicked Changbin in his stomach. “You think you’re such a hotshot, huh?” he hissed, throwing another punch to his jaw.
“Stop!” you yelled, telling Jeongin with your eyes to help Changbin stand up. “I don’t know who you are, but my friend isn’t in his normal state and I’m sorry. Will you… drop this? For once? I swear if he messes around with you again, you’re free to end him,” you said, staring boldly into Chan’s eyes although you wanted to cry out of fear.
He snorted, eyeing you from head to toe. “Don’t look at them like that you bas—”
“Shut up, Changbin!” you hissed. Chan contemplated your idea, walking towards Changbin as he grabbed his bag. “Just this once,” he warned. “See you around, Jeongin! Don’t forget to bring more cash next time, asshole!”
Changbin let out a string of curses after Chan left, making you more furious than you already were. “I guess you really want to get expelled,” you remarked, lifting his arm so you could help him walk. He shook his head, shrugging himself out of your and Jeongin’s grip.
“I told you to run away, Jeongin, not to bring them here,” Changbin said to the younger boy. Jeongin fidgeted with his fingers, his head hung low. “Sorry, but you could’ve killed Chan,” he mumbled.
You shot a glare at Changbin for the nth time today, but all of you got was a weak smirk. “You can’t fight for shit, Y/N. Don’t do that again. You hate me, remember?”
His words made your heart clench. You never hated Changbin. Sure, he did annoy you a lot, but you never hated him. You bit your bottom lip; the awkward silence caused Jeongin to slow his pace so he walked behind the two of you.
“Jeongin, you can drive, right?” Changbin suddenly asked, throwing his key at him. Jeongin caught it in a trance. “Bring my motorcycle home. You can borrow it for today, but you’re dead if you dent it.”
Jeongin took it as a cue to leave, so he bid goodbye at you before running towards the school’s parking lot. Changbin shifted his gaze to you, his cold eyes made you shudder. “Go back to your little posse. You don’t want them to think that you’re into me, do you?” he said while trying to walk faster.
You ran up to him, wrapping your arm around his waist to hoist him up. “I’ll never hate you, Changbin. Now shut up and let me take care of your bruises first before your Mom buries you alive.”
He didn’t say anything, but you caught him staring you with a small smile on his face. For now, that was enough.
-
You sat Changbin down on your sofa, realizing that it had been years since he last went inside your house. He laughed at a photo of you two holding trophies. “I can’t believe you still have that,” he commented, looking incredibly amused.
“The only piano competition I’ve ever won, of course my Mom would frame that photo,” you responded while handing him an ice pack for his bruises.
“Y/N, let’s get to the point. Do you like me? Or do you despise me? Because one minute I can feel you melt at my every word, then the next minute you’re ready to butcher me. It confuses the hell out me,” Changbin confessed. You could only stare at him, thinking about the possibility of you liking him for the first time.
“I… don’t know. You sure are annoying, you get on my nerves. Well, you get on everybody’s nerves,” you rambled, playing with the hem of your uniform. “But it feels so nice when you’re not being so hard to deal with.”
Changbin tugged at your wrist, pulling you down to sit beside him. He intertwined your hands together. “Are you okay with me doing this?” he asked, and you nodded. “What if Yugyeom does this?” he continued.
You shook your head. “That would be awkward,” you answered.
“When I took you home last night, how did it feel?”
Ah. That moment. Now you slowly remembered the other times when you felt like that with Changbin. Comfortable. Safe. Happy. He had been around you for years, and while not every moment you two shared was pleasant, many beautiful things happened when you were with him.
But those things were buried with your bickering and small fights, with Changbin’s brash attitude.
“It felt… amazing. I was a little sad when you didn’t talk to me at all during the ride though,” you muttered. Changbin nodded, lifting his arm to wrap it around your shoulder. He tucked your head in the crook of his neck, and you immediately relaxed.
“That means you like me, idiot. For a smart person, you’re really stupid. No wonder you suck at Chemistry,” he exclaimed. Your ears grew red at his honest statement, and he ruffled your hair softly.
“I’m afraid of so many things, Y/N. I didn’t mean to be such a pain in the ass, but I don’t know how else I can hide this. I just don’t want to be weak,” he continued. You had this urge to place a kiss on his chin, but you refrained yourself. Instead, you snuggled closer to him. “Afraid of what?” you asked.
Changbin seemed to think of how much he should reveal to you. “Everything?  My future, my Mom’s future, my Dad’s future. My dream, my responsibilities… I guess the list is endless.”
“I feel less afraid with you, though. Much less,” he said, and this time you decided not to hold back. You pecked his chin, and then his lips when he didn’t push you away. “I’m afraid too, Changbin. We are all,” you assured him.
“At the end of the day, I guess we’re all the same. We’re all struggling and wondering when we can be happy,” you continued, trying not to blush when he brushed away your bangs as you spoke. “I am you, Changbin. So you don’t need to hide your worries. I understand.”
Changbin let out a very relieved sigh, and you felt bad for not being able to sense his struggle sooner when he could tell how you felt in a glance. “So, are you sure you want to give us a chance? You can still back out, you know,” he questioned, sounding unsure for the first time.
“Why would I back out?”
“Nobody likes me, remember? Your friends treat me like a virus, Bang Chan wants to end me, and the whole class hates my guts. All I have is freaking Yang Jeongin.”
You chuckled, cradling his face with your hands before pulling him for a kiss. You smiled as he yelped in pain when he wanted to deepen the kiss. “Your lip is bleeding. Let me get you another ice pack,” you giggled, pulling away to wipe the cut. Changbin shook his head, his grip on your shoulder only grew tighter. “If I say something silly like, ‘Kiss the pain away, Y/N,’ would you hate me?”
You ignored his request, but proceeding to pepper other parts of his face with kisses. “No, but if you keep being clingy like that, I’ll break up with you,” you joked, hugging him closer to you so you could hear his steady heartbeat.
“Changbin-ie is sad! Y/N you’re bad!”
“Stop it, Changbin.”
“As you wish, Princess.”
“I said stop!”
Changbin’s giggles and sweet laugh conquered your hearing, and while you didn’t know what the future held for both of you, you were ready. As long as this man beside you stayed by your side.

MMA Fighter!Jungkook - BTS Imagine
Tumblr media
fighter jungkook. always has a busted lip. thats all i have to say.
leads the competitive and bloody sport in most wins in a single year
the strongest boy oh my god
imagine muscle kook.. but.. twice the fucking size oh god
okay so anyway
hes one of the most feared fighters
but every once in a while a cocky newbie will challenge him
“jungkook is a little bitch. i can take him down!”
“oh really?”
an ambulance ends up having to be called
when hes fighting he has no remorse
hes merciless
he will beat his opponents until the ref has to drag him to his corner
but thats how he was taught to fight
because of that everyone thinks hes a ruthless killer
so when you’re told you have to interview him at the final match of the season, for the championship title, you’re hesitant
“mrs. jones, what if he kills me?”
“make sure you get the article written first.”
surprise surprise, he wins the title.
this job was important to you, and it put food on your pitiful table
so you have to do this
you knock on his door as quietly as you can because you're horrified of him
and after hearing the stories of fighters past who had fought him, you should be.
you hear him tell you to come in
hes sitting in the corner, eating a microwave dinner
he looks so cuddly, to your surprise?
white, long sleeve henley shirt and sweatpants someone hold me
jungkook motions for you to sit down as he finishes off his plate
you’re thrown off course because why isnt he aggressive? where are his scars and tats? wheres the real jungkook?
“so what do you wanna know?”
you honestly expected a husky, gravelly voice that hid years of anger and death
wrong he had the most soothing and amazing voice you’d ever heard
so you’re a little flustered
“uhm... uh...”
HE GIGGLES
AND YOUR HEART
COMBUSTS
“do you wanna start with my victory tonight?”
you nod eagerly as he stands up and begins to tell you about it
you dont even have to ask questions at this point. he steers the entire interview.
in the middle of his rendition of the night he offers you something to drink
and you graciously accept
so you’re like... thirty minutes into the interview and you have more than you could’ve ever hoped to get out of him
and you read the last question to him
“if you could change one thing in this world, what would it be?”
and his face turns solemn
“i wish i could change how people see me.”
the interview is over after about an hour, and you thank him for his time
and you’re gathering your cardigan and backpack and heading towards the door
but not before he gets the last word in
“what was your name again?”
fast forward three weeks and you’re in the middle of a meeting with your chief editor of the magazine and a couple other journalists
your article?? was a big success. it earned you cover page!!
in the middle of talking about the biggest upset in the tennis world, an assistant runs into the room
“y/n you have a call.”
“can it wait?”
“i wouldn’t want to wait on this guy.”
so youre forced out of this meeting to go to your desk and answer the call
youre a little agitated you got pulled out and it shows
“someone better be dying, so help me god--”
“ah, y/n?”
your face flushes bc you just yelled at jeon jungkook
“oh my GOD IM SO S ORRY”
he’s telling you to calm down
laughing about it, even
after a few minutes of him teasing you for your outburst he gets to what he wanted to say
“i have to go a red carpet event tonight, and i dont have a lot of friends”
you’re like wait hold up
and he continues
“it’s a longshot, but you wouldn’t want to be my date, would you?”
he sounds so shy over the phone
his voice is to a near hush bc he is scared you’re going to say no
but when you choke out a yes he’s overcome with joy
jungkook immediately sends a chauffeur to pick you up at work
as you’re pulling up to his house youre in complete astonishment
you expected the biggest mma fighter to have the biggest house
yet here he was in a small apartment complex in brooklyn
and he greets you at the entrance in all black and a surgical mask
he enjoyed his privacy so the simple life was actually ideal for him
“im so sorry about earlier”
“i’m used to it.”
immediately brings you inside and you’re jumped by two little pomeranians
you finally realize how much of a child he is
he brings out a dress and a pair of heels and holds them out in front of you
“my boss is about the same size as you. it should fit like a glove.”
you finally arrive at the red carpet event for the espys
the fucking espys
you work at a sports magazine and you’ve always dreamed of covering this event
jungkook glances at you and notices how amazed you are
he’s super happy too???
like midway through the awards, after he had won “best fighter” he starts to vent to you
“you don’t think im scary, do you?”
“no.”
“are you sure?”
“im positive.”
a cute little shy grin plasters his face
hes really the biggest sweetheart
since that day he would send you flowers once a month
and pictures of his pups
you easily became best friends
he values you so much its nauseating honestly
treats you like a queen
and deep down he knows that he loves you
but he’s still too scared to ask you out

-       One of must watch k-drama, this will make you cry at the same time have a romantic feeling and excitement.
-       In terms of visuality, I’ve ranked Goblin second because it was really good. In terms of computer graphic effects, even the camera position and lightnings to evoke emotions to the audience were great.
Trivia:
One of the most remarkable scenes to me even to the audience in the Korean drama Goblin is the sword that was stubbed into Kim Shin(Gong Yoo)’s chest, but did you know how that it was made? According to what I have searched online, “the show’s crew said in Saturday’s episode.
To create the illusion of being impaled, Gong was required to wear a suit, crafted by the art team and pasted with pieces of the sword. Computer graphic effects were added later to shroud the sword in green smoke.” – Rumy Doo , https://www.thejakartapost.com

-       It was true that this drama has a top-caliber production elements, because when you watch some of the behind the scenes of legend of the blue sea in YouTube you can see there that it’s not easy for the whole team in order to produce this Korean drama.

Walking The Wire (107/?)
Summary: Tony Stark always knew about Peter Parker. He didn’t know that Peter was going to get superpowers and become Spider-Man, but he always knew about Peter because Peter was his son.
This will span from pre-Iron Man up through the rest of the MCU (eventually including Infinity War) and will be for the most part canon compliant except where I’ve taken some liberties and interpreted canon a certain way.
Pairings: Pepper/Tony, Tony/Steve (endgame), Tony/Mary (past)
A/N: If you want me to tag you when I post new chapters let me know. This fic is also on AO3
I used Collider’s MCU timeline to stay canon and the title of this fic is an Imagine Dragons song that is just so fitting for Peter and Tony

Chapter One Hundred Six
It wasn’t until it was almost summer that Tony actually had to speak out in Barnes’ defense. Pepper was the one to make the call on the timing and Tony agreed that it was the right time. It was mostly to do with how the public viewed Barnes and Ross. Since clearing the air in Wakanda, Tony had started to take more interest in the man that was Steve’s best friend. He’d gone as far as to offer Barnes a new arm even if the process would entail Tony returning to Wakanda to make it happen. Barnes hadn’t seemed too interested and Tony realized fairly quickly that it was because for the time being he preferred not having the arm and either way Shuri assured him she had something in the works for him.
Speaking to Barnes had made things a little easier for Tony. He didn’t blame the man anymore and he didn’t dream about him or Siberia all the time not that it stopped Tony from having nightmares all together about his mom dying but they weren’t about Barnes. Not really. Some things were never going to stop and for Tony there would always be nightmares.
In the end, Tony’s statements about how much he didn’t blame Barnes and how he didn’t personally hold Barnes accountable for the deaths of his parents had the effect of making people aware of how much Hydra had had to do with everything The Winter Soldier had done. But it wasn’t just Tony’s word but all the proof they had to show what Hydra had been up to.
It didn’t stop Ross from continuing to try to get his way and make it near impossible for Barnes to ever get out of hiding without being arrested if he did. But the arrest would only lead to a trial and Tony was confident that it was a trial that Barnes would win. Ross seemed to have figured that out too, because he wasn’t as pushy with the stuff about Barnes which just made Tony worry and he’d have something else up his sleeve. Either way, with Barnes not planning on leaving Wakanda any time soon the whole matter was put the rest and Tony had his lawyers ready for when anything changed. He was hopeful that his name would be cleared when the time came.
Tony had a million other things going on too like the planning of a wedding. The thing of it was that flashy wasn’t what they wanted or needed. In all actuality, the whole marriage thing was a bit unnecessary in and of itself. Still, they wanted to have it happen and make it official.
It was Peter that seemed to want to make a big deal out of it which Tony thought was him trying to really make it clear how okay he was with him getting married which was sweet. Ever since they’d had that discussion over apple crostini, Tony had realized that he really needed to make sure Peter never felt left out of any of it. It helped that Steve adored Peter and loved his input and probably welcomed Peter in more than even Tony did.. If it was up to Steve, he probably would just let Peter have his way with all of it.
“But you have to have a big wedding,” Peter said one morning. “Just think about all the good it will do to all the gay teens out there who look up to you. You’re Iron Man and Captain America. You’re both public figures.”
Rhodey thought the whole thing was hilarious, but somehow Peter got him on his side. Mostly, Tony suspected that Rhodey just wanted to watch him suffer.
“No one even knows we’re together, Pete,” Tony had tried to argue one afternoon while Peter did some maintenance on K-9.
“But they should. I don’t really get why you’re keeping it a secret in the first place. You’re not going to hide it forever. It’s like -- I know I have a secret identity, but one day everyone’s going to know who I am. And they’re also going to know that I’m your son. I’m not ashamed of being Spider-Man or the son of Tony Stark even if it’s easier to keep that quiet at the moment. ”
It took a few weeks of convincing and since Peter was eventually out of school for the summer he had plenty of time to harp on the subject which was a bit amusing mostly because he even had Karen and Friday piping in on how much they needed to make a big deal about the wedding. In the end, Tony figured that Peter was right. Secrets weren’t a good thing and as horrible as the media coverage could get, Peter was right in saying that they might help young LGBTQ kids and teens and adults too probably by being open about it. That was what finally truly convinced Tony -- but also, it was sort of nice to share with the world that he and and Steve were going to be husbands.
But then, another reason reared its head when Tony got a call from Ross. The calls had stopped a while back, but Friday still put Ross on hold for a while before Tony picked up.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t realize there was a call,” Tony said. “What can I do for you?”
“Stark, you’ve done an amazing job at stonewalling me time and time again.”
“Getting the right information to the people is stonewalling you? Getting our heroes back and under house arrest as punishment for their actions? General, I have followed every letter of the law and every clause within the amended Sokovia Accords. So unless you want something, I don’t understand the nature of this phone call. I’m a very busy man.”
Which was when Ross said the last thing that Tony expected him to say: “I know you have a son. Swings around New York City as Spider-Man, right? I bet the people would love to know about him -- after all, everyone seems to be wondering who he is.”
Tony went cold. It didn’t seem like Ross actually knew who was under the Spider-Man suit, but he knew that it was Tony’s son. He knew that Tony had a son at all.
“Ah, I see I found something to keep you quiet,” Ross chuckled.
The question was how did he know?
“Did you know that The Accords and who signed them are public. Even if they weren’t I would have been able to take a look and Spider-Man is a minor who needed a mentor of sorts to take responsibility for him. And you did that for him which was enough to make me interested.”
It still begged the question how he had figured it out and how he wasn’t mentioning Peter which worried him. Did he know it was Peter or not? Peter had signed as Spider-Man not as Peter Parker so maybe--
“Everyone’s been speculating,” Ross said, “I may as well give them some sort of answer. Tony Stark allowing a teenager to run around as a hero -- that would make the front pages.”
But not if Tony had a bigger story to sell.
---
The pictures were taken in the tower because of the house arrest and they were absolutely ridiculous. Steve didn’t know how Tony had managed to convince him to pose that way. They were both on chairs and Tony’s was balancing on two legs. Steve’s leg was resting on Tony’s shoulder and Tony was actually holding on to it. Steve actually couldn’t believe that they hadn’t fallen while taking the picture. There had been a bunch of other ridiculous poses made that day and it was lucky that not all of the pictures were used in the article. Only a few of them were of a serious nature. The one where Tony had just kissed his cheek, or the one where they had gotten a bit caught up in staring at each other and the photographer had just taken a few shots of them. There were also individual ones. Vanity Fair was running a whole issue mostly devoted to them, it was kind of insane.
The interview had been almost nice though, mostly because he’d gotten to talk about Tony a bit and because it was the first time that Steve was getting to really be public about The Accords and the house arrest. He’d even gotten to mention Bucky for a bit of it.
The one area where Steve had been surprised was when Tony decided to disclose that he had a son. Peter wasn’t mentioned by name, but he casually mentioned that his son and Steve got along really well. Steve had been sitting next to him when the topic came up and he had frozen in place out of surprise until Tony reached for his hand and griped it before he said:
“I know it’s a bit of a surprise to everyone to learn that I have a son, but since we’re announcing this other important life event I figured everyone should know that I am a very proud father to a teenager. He hasn’t always been in my life, but he’s made a difference in it in the time he has been. I am unwilling to talk about who he is for privacy concerns, but I guess it was time to be a little more open with the world.”
When the final version of the whole article and pictures arrived for their approval, Steve was a little floored by how good they both looked. How happy, too. The main picture was the chair one but it was followed by a picture of Tony fixing a strand of Steve’s hair and Steve looking down at him. Steve wanted that picture framed. Vanity Fair didn’t go out of their way to highlight the mention of Tony having a son, but everyone knew that the media was going to pick up on it and run with it.
Steve skimmed the article and it really was perfect. The writer captured them and really weaved in the narrative of their story from how they labeled their sexualities to how their relationship had come about to why they had decided to come forward with the truth. It was actually kind of nice and Steve didn’t regret doing it.
--
“Tony Stark is dating Captain America?”
“Wait — they’re engaged.”
“Did you hear?”
“I didn’t know that HE was Gay? Did you?”
“This is nuts.”
“Wait, and is it true that Tony Stark has a son?”
“Do you think they’ve been together this entire time?”
“But didn’t Stark date his assistant for forever? I thought they were still together.”
“They’re getting married, though.”
“I wonder how long they’ve been together…”
The questions and comments were endless and Peter was sort of amused every time he heard something. He tried to stay away from actually discussing anything with anyone unlike Ned who was absolutely keen on getting his two cents in, but then Peter had expected that from Ned. Ned was also trying to get Peter to talk to him about how he felt about Tony mentioning that he had a son. Peter didn’t want to discuss it.
The timing of the article was perfect, though, because it came out just a day before the last day of school and Peter knew he wouldn’t get a chance to actually get tired of hearing about the article. It wasn’t just that everyone was talking about it, either, but that some of them just went up to Peter to ask him about it since he had the Stark Internship and everyone wanted to know if he’d known beforehand and if he’d met Steve. In one case someone asked if Peter had met Tony’s son. Peter tended to just give those people a shrug and a, “I’m just an intern.”
Ned’s reaction had still been the best after he’d had a chance to process the whole thing. “This -- this means that freaking Captain America is going to be your step-father.”
“Yup, Ned. That’s how that works,” Peter said.
Ned had laughed nervously for a while. “How are you not freaking out?”
“Because I’ve had plenty of time to get used to it.”
The media coverage was kind of insane after the article was released, though. Mostly it was a rehashing of what the article said but there were segments on the news, talk shows, and those celebrity news shows. A lot of them highlighted the mention of Tony having a son and everyone seemed to be questioning who it might be. Only one article mentioned the possibility of Tony’s son being Spider-Man and it was almost said in jest which was funny because everyone seemed opposed to the idea because of how secretive Tony had been about having a son in the first place.
Since the publishing of the article, Friday had also started to deal with a high volume of calls for interviews that were all declined. Peter hadn’t expected it to be so crazy, but his dad and Steve were handling it.
“But we’re talking about Iron Man and Captain America getting married. Two Avengers marrying each other. It’s crazy.”
Peter sighed. “I’m aware. They’re also normal people. You’ve met them.”
“It’s still crazy, though.”
Michelle’s response had been to shrug. “It’s nice that they’re making a difference by making their romance public. Doesn’t really concern me though.” He really should have expected nothing less from her except that then she had turned and stared right at him and said, “Peter Stark.” And promptly walked away.
---
“I’m kind of glad I’m on house arrest now,” Steve said. He was playing with K-9 and Dum-E with a ball and Tony was in the middle of not watching some snapshots of the media coverage of their engagement. It had been created by Friday for them just so that they were on top of everything being said about them, but Tony had it on while he worked on something or other.
“Hmm, yes, they would be following you everywhere,” Tony said.
Tony for his part hadn’t really left the tower. They’d announced their engagement over Twitter the morning the article came out and it had been kind of funny how many people thought that Tony was joking. They thought so even when Steve tweeted about it. There had even been some that were convinced it was a misdirect from Tony and Pepper getting engaged or even full on married. Then, everyone got wind of the article and the messages changed to surprise. A lot were pleased and congratulatory but then there were the homophobes who were obviously completely offended by it but Tony didn’t care about engaging with people like that. There were fewer at first that mentioned Tony’s announcement of also being a father.
“Why, um, you haven’t explained why you mentioned having a son.”
He hadn’t mentioned the call from Ross. At first because he had so much to set up to screw up Ross’ plans, but also because he knew that Steve would feel guilty about it somehow.
“Ross knows my son is Spider-Man. I’m not -- I don’t know if he knows it’s Peter but he knows something so it made sense to announce it myself in a way.”
“Which is why everything was rushed,” Steve said.
The funny part was that after the article had come out and other coverage of it by the media got all of the information right there were still a bunch of rumors and stories to deal with. It was just so much information and no one really knew what to focus on. It was sort of brilliant to mix in Tony having a son in the middle of all of it.
“Are they really saying that you made this a condition to have me back in the states?” Steve asked with a grin, looking at the screen.
“Apparently so. You know how they are — they want to paint me as the bad guy and in a lot of those people’s eyes I’m not good enough for you.”
“Those people have no idea how amazing you are,” Steve said
K-9 barked to get attention. The dog really was a great addition to the tower. Peter loved him of course, but so did Steve who was the first to just drop to the ground and roll around with the dog when he had time.
“Get rid of all that, Fri, it’s useless.” The screen went dark. “Is there anything else that needs my attention? Otherwise I’ll get back to figuring out the housing unit for the nanotech.”
Friday seemed to take a moment to search and then, “I have surveillance footage of Thor and Loki in the city. There are also Instragram pictures of Thor.”
Steve dropped the ball at his feet and he straightened up, joining Tony to look at what Friday had been able to pull up. The video wasn’t all that grainy but it didn’t show much since it was them facing some sort of demolition. The video wasn’t even centered on them but they stood there for a while and it was definitely Thor and Loki even if they were both in regular human clothing and not their usual Asgardian gettup. It was also not enough to hide them from people on the street who seemed to stare at them from afar.
“What got demolished there?” Steve asked.
“Shady Acres Care Home,” Friday said.
“The real questions is why they are there and why Thor hasn’t thought to contact us if he’s back on Earth,” Tony said and it was worrisome because it meant that Thor wasn’t just back for leisure but that he was after something. That Loki was with him -- that might mean more problems for everyone.
They watched as Thor was approached by a bunch of girls -- which explained the origin of the pictures on Instagram and Twitter. And then just moments later Loki disappeared. Probably one of his tricks. Even Thor seemed surprised that his brother was gone -- and wasn’t it just even more worrisome to have Loki disappear like that? They watched as Thor picked something up off the ground and then he walked off.
“He’s here for a reason,” Tony said. “Have there been any more sightings?” Tony asked.
“I’m afraid not,” Friday said.
“So what do we do? There’s still no way to contact him so…”
“We wait,” Tony said. “And we can only hope that Loki isn’t up to something. Friday be on alert for any sighting of either.”
“Sure thing, boss.”
Tony just hoped that nothing would come of Thor’s return to Earth.
Tony looked back at the unit for the nanotech. He hadn’t told anyone yet that it was probably going to mean that he was putting something back in his chest -- that this housing unit would have to be on him somehow and it’d be better for it to be in him. Thor showing up made him even more positive that he needed to do it.
“I’m sure it’s nothing bad,” Steve said. “He would have come to us if it was.”
Tony sighed. Loki had been with him and after the last time they had encountered the God of Mischief, Tony wouldn’t discount that he wasn’t up to anything. Although, it was a bit of a surprise to see him when Thor had been adamant that Loki was dead the last time they spoke about him. It made Tony wonder about what might have happened for Loki to be alive and for Loki and Thor to be together and not showing signs of not being on the same side. Tony understood that they were family, but he also knew that there was a lot of contention there. He just hoped that none of that would affect the people of Earth.
