Hi! I just wondered if you've played Hollow Knight based off how much you like Rain World. I'd be interested in any thoughts you had on it. :)

Thanks for the ask! No, I have not yet played Hollow Knight, BUT my interest in the game has been piqued! However I still have to see if the gameplay itself seems up my alley, or get invested enough in the characters that I want to discover more than I've already found out (and I have spoiled quite a lot for myself) before I actually decide to buy the game.

Regardless, from what I do know it does seem like an interesting story, albeit one far more tragic than Rain World's in my opinion. The characters I've seen are also pretty cool, both in design and personality. In fact, it was some ship fanart I found a few weeks ago that got me interested in diving deeper into the game once I realized it was where the featured characters were from, especially since one of the characters I had remembered hearing about before.

Here's a little sketch of some characters I was thinking about and whom I've been meaning to draw for a bit! Hornet because she's very Shaped™, Quirrel because from what I've seen he's quite wholesome, and Tiso because he was the first character I heard about and I think he's kinda silly!

Also, some more comparing/contrasting thoughts about the game below:

Firstly, I like how the premise of Kollow Knight involves anthropomorphic insects! It's something I never realized until recently despite being aware of HK for at least a few years, but I usually tend to take interest in stories starring non-humanoid creatures, so it's a plus! I also enjoy the more gothic/Victorian-looking magical high fantasy aesthetic, though it's pretty different from Rain World, which I'd consider far more sci-fi and specbio-esque in its aesthetic.

Now to get into themes, so far Hollow Knight seems to share Rain World's theme of lost/dead civilizations, which is also a very interesting premise to me! However, HK seems to have a greater focus on interacting with the people of its dying civilization and as such you get far more definitive knowledge about what happened to cause it to collapse. The player character seems to take on more of a classic epic hero role, because from what I've heard about the lore and endings, they end up directly influencing the fate of Hallownest, even potentially destroying or defeating the force that caused its ruin. The visuals have this very dark, cool tint overall to sell that gloomy, mournful vibe, and the structures, while presumably old, are still mostly smooth, ornate, and not super deteriorated, with these castle or manor-like appearances more similar to real-life buildings or things in other high fantasy works. Then, the orchestral music I've heard alongside all of these elements really creates this impression in me that it's aesthetic and overall concept is more akin to a high fantasy epic tale, albeit a rather tragic one.

Meanwhile, Rain World seem to have the player take more of an anthropologist role, observing and trying to piece together the story of vast remnants of its dead civilization, which seem alien and impossibly complex because so much of the history they're from has been lost to time. One of the core themes is being very small compared to these long abandoned structures, to really sell the idea that this history is so much older and more intricate than you'll ever know. The colors of Rain World are often warmer, which can be associated with old things, and the structures are far more weathered and broken down, with the only living survivors of the people who made them being the iterators, whom we only get to hear directly from two of. Combined with the focus on simulating an ecosystem, the more directly religious ideas within, the themes of natural cycles and an entire civilization evolving, changing, and ultimately disappearing over deep time, and the overall alien, sci-fi industrial designs of the architexture and strange creature designs that look like things out of "Of Rust and Humus" or some other alien speculative biology worldbuilding project make RW fit well in with that genre of fiction in my opinion.

Sorry if I seem like I kinda took a sudden shift there, but I wanted to talk about this contrast in artistic aesthetics and story genres for a moment because the "lasting impression" an art piece creates something I've recently concluded is pretty important overall in works of art, at least for mine!

But anyway, I hope these thoughts were satisfying for now! Thanks again for the ask!

Moonpaw design prediction!!! This is likely going to be the first and only time I ever do something like this (predict a cat) so enjoy it pookies lmao

Also related thread about theories that I like from Sunlit Prairies (my discord server!) that inspired this design, as well as other inspiration/details!!

Design Wise:

- She's based off of... You guessed it the moon! She has spotty color-point leg markings (like the moon has) and several stripes in the shape of different moon phases across her pelt! She also has a crescent-moon shaped tail.

- Her colors are taken primarily from Sunbeam believe it or not, but toned down in saturation considerably! She has Sunbeam's facial spotting as well, with only hue/saturation/the seal pointing coming from Nightheart!

- She has a lazy eye like Snowtuft does, because I have a theory (or headcanon I guess) that double dead cats don't entirely vanish, but instead are stuffed into another body, recycling souls infinitely! So Moonpaw is Snowtuft's reincarnation! She's a funky little silly anxious weirdo like him too I reckon!

- As for the pink/red eye... She started out with albinism but lost it halfway through lmao! I guess now it can be a nod at red moons while her blue/green eye is a nod at blue!

Plot Wise:

ALRIGHT DISCLAIMER a lot of these ideas are morphed off others I've been seeing around/discussing in my discord server!! I don't entirely own a collection of these ideas lol!

Augustus' genius idea!! I love the idea of the moonpool being something that's alive that can control and consume her, so I used that for the "consumption" parts of this piece!! I like the idea of it speaking to her and eventually controlling her, maybe even possessing her body entirely to a degree!!

- I also imagine she's a Nightheart x Sunbeam kit, lol

- Also also since Curlfeather is my BAEEEE I love her so much, I think she should be the mandatory evil dark forest cat for this arc!! I know she probably won't have any reason to interact with Moonpaw but I'd really like it!!

Anyway SHES COOL she can be cool idk maybe I'm delusional LOL I predict she'll be a carbon copy of our last few medicine cat apprentices (I almost forgot i predict she'll be one too) with the same personality but!! with a cute and cool design and a cool story that boring mold for a personalty might not be so bad 🥰😍

ALSO I forgot to mention LOL Moonpaw is a main character for the 9th arc of warriors, Changing Skies! Her name was released alongside book one's blurb a few days ago, and this is purely speculation!! None of this is Canon to any degree we don't actually know anything about this cat yet!!

#elena of avalor #beauty and the beast #batbedit #disneyedit #eoa edit #belle x beast #estebalena #kinda but also not kinda #I think a lot about the fact that it's been confirmed that this is an intentional homage #like EoA series supervising director Elliot M. Bour was just like casually bringing BATB into things as an Easter egg #since it was his first job in animation #and like don't get me wrong; I LOVE that he did this. I just don't know how he expected anyone (i.e. me) to be normal about it afterwards #once you've introduced BATB; it ceases to be a fun and casual reference and just makes the literature major girlies go feral #i thought this was gonna be a quick and easy little project but it wasn't #the parallels are all there but they're in slightly different order in EoA than the original and the pacing for each reference is differen #so i had to determine which ones I needed to skip frames for and which ones to use all the frames #and then try to figure out the speed from there #the coronation day scenes were very hard to color because the grey skies and muted filter kind of whitewash the characters #like you don't even understand i added so MUCH vibrance and saturation to the 4th and 5th gifs but elena's skin still is just gray #and the coloring is still just a very very mixed bag #also i've realized that while I don't think it was an intentional reference in the same way BATB was #anna's sacrifice and resurrection from frozen is perhaps just as --if not more-- a clear parallel to the coronation day scene than BATB #so maybe I will do that one someday too?#once i psych myself up again to try coloring coronation day again #which i imagine will be awhile #these do not look like the same scene and pretty much the same scene at all even if i tried to use the same psd when i could #and edit them to make the coloring as close as i could

today i woke up and chose art

this doodle is basically what i think would happen if the potara fused the outfits like they're supposed to, ain't no way Vegito's not getting Vegeta's armor if he fused while wearing it

why the royal insignia if Vegeta's armor doesn't have it anymore? because it makes sense to me that the Prince of All Saiyans has his mark of royalty despite everything that's happened to him in his life

i think Vegeta would care enough to keep his people's culture alive as long as he can, even going as far as letting Bulma document all of it (or at least, all the stuff he can remember; especially all the stuff regarding royalty); Bulma eventually taking it upon herself to recreate the royal emblem from scratch based on Vegeta's descriptions because of how much of a Big Deal it used to be

tangent aside, it took a while to figure out the colors on the boots, Goku and Vegeta's outfits are harder to fuse together than i thought they'd be (except the gloves and wristbands, that was the easiest part)

i also felt like making an alt color version, so here's that

Mega Man 10 features a triad of playable characters— Mega Man, Proto Man, and Bass. Unlike the former two, Mega Man 10 was Bass's first 8-Bit outing (Not counting his very minor cameo in Mega Man 9), and his faux NES sprite is... off. It's not a bad sprite by any means, but his color palette and posture being much too close to Rock's never quite sat right with me.

But what would Bass look like in my spriting style? Well... here's your answer! ✨

#Star's Art #Mega Man #Rockman #Bass #Forte #Sprite Art #Coolness #I've had a Bass sprite sitting around for a long while now— since about 2019 I believe #I've been meaning to post it for just as long but I knew I could do a smidge bit better than my first iteration of the sprite #So I made a few alterations to his posture and height and it was much closer to my liking!#I realize I could have saved a color by making Bass's armor a solid black rather than the usual deep grey #Though seeing as I went into this with the 'Mega Man Ultimate' spriting style in mind... six colors isn't too crazy #I mean. Just look at Amazon Man. His sprite uses six colors!#Even now I think that the above sprite of Bass that I drew is amidst one of my best character sprites #It feels a lot like a demake of his appearance in Mega Man 8 in particular wherein he has SO many good sprites #This does in fact mean that I'll eventually get around to respriting the rest of Mega Man's main cast in my style #I have preliminary drafts of just about everyone already drawn. All that's left is to touch 'em up!

god i hate it when im mentally all set to work on something but the circumstances dont fucking align and i have to wait

#i am trying to get back into making clay dragons cause it feels like its been forever since i actually made one #but the thing is the one i wanted to make is a specific character so i needed to have my laptop in my room to have a ref on hand #(but also so i could listen to music while i work n all that)#and the fucking laptop decided it needed an update Right That Instant #and now its getting late as i wait for it to finish so im like. i probably should wait till tomorrow...#and i just got some new crystals for the eyes and i really want to try them out cause i've never used this brand before #(michaels stopped selling the swarovski brand that i used to always use. but their new brand is a bit less expensive so thats cool)#i mean i guess i still made progress toward the project in a way cause i got some of the gems sorted #and i managed to find my wire cutters that i thought i lost and i dusted my workspace #dunno just frustrated tho cause i really wanted to actually start working on mixing the clay colors and i cant really do that yet #i feel like i cant even work on the armature properly yet cause i want to be able to compare with the ref for proportions n stuff

"you did it so you have to pay." for weeks, you've been trying to tell gojo to separate the colors from the whites while doing laundry. him just wanting to get it over with, he dumped them all in the same load, ruining some of your favorite pieces of clothing.

"baby, please. i won't do it again," he begs, kneeling in front of you. but to no avail, you stood your ground.

it only took him 3 days to convince you to wave your white flag, surrendering to his seduction. "you look good in my shirts." gojo's hands caress your hips as he presses his chest to your back. "i would be in my clothes if you would just listen to me." you huff, "i never said i was disappointed." gojo whispered, his hard-on pressing on your ass.
