Okay, I know some people might be mad at me, but I stand by this. Volumes seven and eight were the most horrible volumes to me. Many you would say because of Ironwood and how the heroes betrayed him. And I would say, “Yes. That is absolutely the reason.” However, that is not the only reason I hate those volumes, especially with nine.
Ren and Oscar:
Ren and Oscar were the MVP s of volumes seven and eight. In volume seven, Ren was concerned with lying to James and was more worried about the people's safety. He became the most emotional in the group and started acting somewhat critical to the point he lashed out at Nora, Yang, and Jaune. This causes Nora to become somewhat distant from him and Jaune to be a little disappointed, especially after mentioning he cheated Beacon. However, after a little talk with Jaune and yelling at Harriet, Ren semblance evolves to where he can read emotions.
Oscar, who was willing to trust James when Ruby, for reasons, didn’t. Who openly told James the truth about Salem, then gets shot for it. Then gets found by his friends and immediately gets taken by Salem’s forces. He then persuades Hazel to betray Salem and gets Emerald on the side of good.
Here’s the problem, Ren didn’t do anything. Like, he didn’t try to fill James in on anything. He stood by his friends and still carried out the lie. And then his evolution really was unnecessary and wasn’t well-earned. And many of you might say, “But he earned it by standing up to Harriet. And it helped them in some way.” Okay, but hears the thing. First off, Harriet was going to hurt Ren if Winter didn’t stop her. And second, his semblance wasn’t even that useful in finding Oscar.
Now Oscar, he just overstayed his welcome. He somehow persuaded Hazel to betray Salem… Even though he is the reincarnation of the man he hates. He gave away the information to Hazel, who was ordered to collect that intel by Salem, which Hazel got mad at Oscar about afterward. But what did he offer Hazel to make him switch sides, considering Ozpin still can’t kill her? Why offer the last question to him? He already knows everything.
And then Emerald, whom he met once and tried to kill Ruby in Heaven, Oscar managed to get her to join the hero side. Why? Why would the characters who not only met Emerald but were betrayed by her and Cinder be willing to trust her? Because Oscar says so? And what makes it worse is Ren agrees to it first because of his evolution. The reason it doesn’t make sense to me is because it’s coming from the wrong characters. Which brings me to my next problem.
Jaune and Nora:
Mainly, Jaune was my issue. However, we will talk about Nora first. Mainly on how the writers gave her the Jaune treatment. Nora was more concerned for the people of Mantle, while Ren was concerned for the entire world. This is due to Nora’s backstory where she was poor, parentless, and alone on the streets. Nora knew exactly how the people were feeling. So you would think out all the characters, she would most likely side with Robyn. Maybe even so far as to tell her what’s going on. But then it was Yang and Blake. Even though Yang was completely against lying to Ironwood and was calling Ruby out on it. (But hey, bumblebee matters.) Then what made Nora's coming out party even more hollow is she leaves Mantle to her teammates, while she goes back to Atlas with the majority of team RWBY, only to be knocked unconscious for half of volume eight. All while thinking about only Ren.
Jaune got it the worst though. Not just with the fact that he had to kill Penny even though he trained with his semblance and probably the most innocent and cool headed person on the group. But as I said before, a lot of Ren and Oscar's actions were pointless - no, didn't make sense because they fit Jaune’s character more.
Look, I said this before, but Jaune has no reasons to trust James. Not only because of Leon’s betrayal but Ozpin whose secrets came to light. Jaune had his trust broken two times. By Headmasters, no less. And you may say, “Ironwood gave Jaune and his friends their licensees early. And a place to stay.” True enough, however, Jaune knows Salem exists. James is trying to keep her a secret until Amity Arena is ready for launch. Who's to say he’s not giving them their licenses and a place to stay to keep an eye on them? (However, that’s not true. Considering Ironwood as we have seen has done nothing wrong to them.) That’s something for Jaune to consider. And even though he could feel sorry for the citizens of Mantle, that doesn’t mean he would fully trust Robyn either, due to her methods causing more harm than good. (The only reason anyone would side with Robyn is that she is a better choice than Jacque. Plus, why do we just see Yang argue about this? Why would Jaune agree to something that he almost hurt Oscar for?)
Basically, Jaune should have been the middle man from the start of volume seven, and in volume eight he brings everyone together. In volume seven, we could’ve had Jaune struggling due to having to help Atlas and Mantle as a huntsman while training to extend his aura, keeping his team together, and watching out for Tyrian, who said he had an interest in him (still don't know why.), and Salem. Jaune would’ve had a hard time, especially because his friends would have been making things worse, and he had to follow up on their actions. (More importantly, Jaune might as well learn to stand on his own two feet as huntsman and a leader. Otherwise, how is he important to the story?)
Then in volume eight, when Ren lashed out at him, Jaune would have had more to prove. Imagen Jaune negotiating with Winter on letting them go in to save Oscar. Offering the relic as leverage so they can find Penny, who mind you they were looking for. Rushing in, extending his aura, and going on his own to find Oscar while relying on his friends to do their part. Then having to fight and reason with Hazel to help him. Even to promise Hazel a future where no more people need to die due to Salem’s and Ozpin’s war, considering Jaune lost Pyrrha. Even maybe seeing Hazel ask Jaune to bring Emerald with him. Jaune learning to trust Emerald, despite everything she’s done because he may need her or sees her redeeming qualities. All this, though unintentionally, is to prove Ren wrong. That he’s capable of doing great things and making him a supposedly better leader than Ironwood. He’s based on Jeanne D'Arc, right? Who was the biggest turnaround in the war for France in 1429. A leader and influencer who managed to convince her allies to join her side. Despite being a woman and a peasant with no proof that angels told her to help in the war.
(Okay, look, many of you might say, “Jaune is not a good fighter” which I agree… but isn't a fight more like a debate using strength and knowledge. And we have seen Jaune fight just not with human opponents.Him fighting Hazel may determine how far he has come from when we met him. Also Jaune’s and Hazel's character a true opposite
Plus the whole point of Hazel’s character is him being a broken man with nothing left to lose. A man who lost all faith in humanity and the hunting world ever since his sister and possibly his whole family were slain by it. His faith slipped the moment he met Salem and found out she was immortal and cannot be killed, making his sister's untimely death even more worth less. However, Jaune is the opposite.
Jaune lost Pyrrha. He lost the very first friend and could've been lover to the hunting world. He was betrayed by others who he thought were  his allies. To make matters worse he too learns of Salem’s immortality. Yes, he was angered by this information. Furious. Almost enough that he would have done the same things Hazel was doing out of spite. But he didn't. He still fights the good fights.
Hazel is man who feels no pain. Sees an indifference between Ozpin and Oscar. Mainly because unlike Jaune he never hanged out with Oscar. So Jaune who was already worried for Oscar, especially after he got kidnapped would be the one to oppose and object Hazel for his actions. Believing that his actions will not only not bring his sister back… but mainly dishonor her. I'm just saying these two should have fought.)
But that’s it for volumes seven and eight. Look, I don't hate Ren and Oscar. However, as some of you complain about Jaune getting too much screen time or being a self insert but when Oscar does the same thing, no one talks about it and are ready to defend other characters and not call out their levels of screen time. Or how they don't fit into the situation. There were plenty of better things Jaune and Nora could have done beside kill or nap for the volumes. Instead, they’re pushed to the side until the writers need an escape goat to advance the plot.
(Also if you are wondering why I am just talking about team JNRO then I am going to be straight forward with you. TEAM JNRO CARRIED THE WHOLE ATLAS VOLUME. And mean main character wise..They save team RWBY. They were the main one probably keeping the people of Mantle and Atlas alive. Jaune killed Penny to save Winter. Basically unlike team RWBY, team JNRO were doing their FUCKING jobs. Hate me if you want to.)

I'm in the mood for some slight angst at the moment, so how about a RWBY version of the Justice League's Identity Crisis, with Jaune being the one who gets mind wiped with a relic from trying to stop his friends?
He doesn't even realize anything's really wrong until he notices how his friends can barely meet his gaze anymore. Why do they look so guilty..?
It isn't until he meets a still traumatized Emerald that it all finally comes back to him...
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
Cinder Fall was in prison once more. Another job well done for Teams RWBY and JNRO. Victory like this calls for a celebration. Sure, things got messy when Hazel Rainart was dragged into the mix, but it all worked out in the end, right?
So why did Jaune feel so... off? And more importantly, why did Cinder look so... Well, angry couldn't begin to do what she felt justice. Something wasn't right, and it's when things aren't right that Jaune looks into it.
"Ruby, can we talk?"
"Uh, sure, Jaune." The two leaders left the party, with Yang cooing after them in a tease. "What's up?"
"Did Cinder seem..." Jaune struggled for the words, "...different to you?"
"Different?" Ruby put a finger to her chin. "Well, I wasn't expecting Hazel. She usually works solo."
"Yeah, she does." Jaune furrowed his brow. "But it's not just that. She looked at us like... Mm, I don't know. Like she hates us."
"Well, she is a bad guy."
"Yeah, but I mean HATES us. Like..." Jaune gave a grunt as he scratched his head. "Sorry, it's kinda hard to explain."
"It's fine." Ruby patted his shoulder. "Maybe the fight took a lot more out of us than we thought? Let's get back to the party and relax, okay?"
"Yeah." Jaune sighed. "Okay."
As the two moved back to the party, Blake leaned away from the wall. She mentally sighed in relief, only for a tightness to grow in her throat. It was only a matter of time.
..................................................................................
Cinder carved through her gloves into her cell wall. Her black talons dug into the solid concrete, though with little results because scuffing. All the while, she heaved heavy breaths that steamed out of her.
Those bastards. Those horrible, awful, evil bastards! She recognized how they grabbed Hazel as she attempted her escape. It was the only way they caught her! They held him in the exact same way she had been held years ago.
When she found Emerald. And she was alone once again.
..................................................................................
Emerald sobbed as she clung to Oscar. She felt so helpless. So pathetic. She wanted to die. She NEEDED to die!
But Oscar continued to hold her close. He watched as Nora stood between Jaune and Cinder's body. The horrible monster of a woman had been subdued, but Jaune lost himself and beat her into unconscious. Behind him, Ren was doing his best to calm Jaune's fury, righteous as it may have been.
"Is she... Are you okay?" Yang asked as she crouched near Emerald. She didn't reply beyond her already occurring sobs.
When Emerald was with Cinder, she had never so much as raise a hand to her. Sure, unkind words had been said now and then, but it never got physical. Nor did it get to a point of bruises, bleedings, and burns, either.
"I'll go let the others know what happened." Ruby said, satchel on side. "That way Cinder can never hurt anybody like this again." Receiving a nod from Weiss, Ruby left out the door.
"It won't do anything." Jaune huffed. "Cinder needs to die."
"Jaune-" Nora began.
"Look at what happened to Emerald!" Jaune shouted, making the girl quiet into soft mewls. "Cinder is a threat to not only us, but our families! I have sisters! Parents! I have a fucking nephew, a child who doesn't deserve this! Nobody deserves this!" He glared at the unconscious woman. "I say we put her down. Like the sick animal she is."
There was a tension in the air. Everyone glanced between one another, hoping someone would- could refute what Jaune said. But nothing.
"What if..." Oscar spoke up, looking from Emerald to Jaune. "What if there was another way?"
..................................................................................
"I'm heading out on patrol." Jaune told Ren. His friend didn't turn from the stove. Same as yesterday and the day before. Was he always like that? Jaune simply sighed and shrugged. "I'll be back later tonight."
Jaune made his way outside, down to the patrol house. Along the way, he saw Blake give him a glance, but nothing more. Not even a wave. Blake was distant, sure, but was she always that distant?
"It's not right!" Jaune looked over and saw two children bickering, toys in hand.
"It is so right!" The other child shouted back. She shoved her playmate. Nora then tackled Jaune to the floor.
Jaune shook his head. What was that? Was he seeing things?
He passed by the mechanic's shop. A car pulled in, a handsome teen grinning as he slapped the car door excitedly. As he pulled in, the car muffler gave a loud bang as it backfired. Yang dogpiled him, unloading a heated shell into his face.
Jaune felt his heart race as his teeth and fingers clenched. He'd sparred with Yang before, but it never got so heated. He shook his head as he hurried along to the patrol house. Maybe he could get medical help after patrol. After all, this wasn't anything serious.
The station was just down the street now. Hopefully, tonight wouldn't be too crazy. Nothing beyond vandals and "kids being kids". Hopefully there were a few donuts left from the morning.
There was a bell ring in front of him. It was the old pastry shop that him and Ruby liked to visit. However, neither exited the sweets store, though the patrons were familiar. Oscar was smiling as he and Emerald left. Sadly, the smiles fell as they saw Jaune.
Emerald looked at him like she was going to cry. Just like that night. Half of her faced was covered in faded scars. Just like that night!. Oscar had a look of fear in his eyes as he stood close to Emerald, as if shielding her. JUST LIKE THAT NIGHT!.
"Oscar?"
"Uh, y-yeah, Jaune?"
Emerald screamed as she dropped the box to the ground. Jaune lifted Oscar by his collar with blue eyes blazing. Oscar kicked in the air, but it did little to end his airborne status. Jaune glared into him.
"WHAT HAPPENED?"

After an epic fight between RWBY and JNRO against Cinder
Cinder: Next time i'll kill all of you, you motherfuckers *dissapear*
Jaune: That bitch, how did she knew my nickname?
Yang: Your nickname is motherfucker? *Jaune nods* Why they call you that?
Jaune: You see. When i was i kid, i sneak into my mother's room
RWBYNOR: Oh oh
Jaune: She was sleeping in the bed after drinking all night thanks to a party
Ren: I think we heard enough
Jaune: I snuck up behind her and slip my fingers
Weiss: That's digusting! How coul-
Jaune: Into her purse
Weiss: Purse?
Ruby: Bless the gods, he said purse
Jaune: An i took all of her money, it was a week pay, so i really fuck her over. That's why my nickname is Motherfucker Arc
Yang: Shouldn't you call yourself Motherfucker over Arc to avoid confusions?
Jaune: Nah, i love seeing the disgust faces that everyone does when i tell that story. Unfortunately, some of those faces are of excitement, like Blake's
Blake: *wiping some spit* I admit nothing
----------
Some fun fact; I was about to do that Gary the Stormtrooper short from Robot Chicken where Gary runs over an Ewok, but with Jaune as Gary and a new creature from some fandom i found some days ago (I will not say what fandom) as the Ewok, but i thought "No way, dude, maybe no one will like it" so instead i did this

gimme your top 5 hot takes about rwby
James's arc in volume 8 was extremely ableist and harmful and it is vile and disgusting CRWBY thought it was a good idea. Their was just no good reason for them to make James evil in the first place given that Salem herself was now in the playing field. A show that is actually a hope punk would have redeemed him but instead he is killed off as a villain and it is disgusting.
Ozma being forced to share a body with another soul over and over again and for their souls to merge every time is a horrifying curse that the show does not acknowledge as being horrible like it should. Worse the show treating Ozpin as worse then Emerald and possibly Cinder or Salem just shows how little people care for male victims of domestic violence.
Bringing Penny back just to kill her all over again was pointless and they shouldn’t have even bothered bringing her back. It’s a slap in the face to anyone who related to Penny and forcing her into a socially acceptable body to be seen as a real girl and enjoy real girl things is also disgusting.
Bmblebe is a very poorly done ship and the pair don’t really have any chemistry anymore (though they should be confirmed as non-straight SOMEONE in the main cast needs to be). Though they have been coded to be in a relationship and to be queer we do live in a world where queer ships are denied and censored and CRWBY even did this with FairGame so until they verbally confirm their attraction to each other it is not good enough and CRWBY could easily rip it away from fans.
James VS JNRO + Winter is the worst fight in the damn show because CRWBY admitted they nerfed James because they felt bad for the B team and wanted them to have a win. This also means they admit James is the best fighter in the show because they agree James should have won in a 1v5 fight without his weapon.

Ok imma explain why I'm a fairgamer, you don't have to agree with me or anything I'm just exteralizing my thoughts tbh. Now that that's out of the way let's go.
-ok broski first of all they literally complete each other?? Through semblances?? Bad luck? And good luck ??
-Qrow is Qrow with everyone he meets. In personality, in humor, in cynicism. Its the same with rwby jnro, iron wood, enemies. But I noticed immediately how different he acted around clover. And sure it could just be then being besties but Qrow is different around Clover than any of his actual besties, like Tai or ozpin, or any other old friends. He's nicer. Not only that, clover gave him hope. Even helped him stop drinking. Though admittedly the seeds for qrows sobriety had been planted before clover was introduced. But clover was the tipping point.
-its one thing to keep clovers clover pin after he's dead its another to stare at it for hours in a jail cell, or pull it out when you thunk your probably gonna die by bomb.
-also Qrow was hurt DIFFERENT after Clover died. Qrow had lost people before, off screen and on screen but he never mopped like this. Also he even got one of those dramatic screams next to the dead loved one TM. That and Robyn keeps saying things like "I know your hurting" or "I know you lost someone dear to you" (I am paraphrasing cause I'm too lazy to find her actual quotes, but if you got what she says to qrow in front of the elevator when they're escaping in v8 send it please)
-they were literally flirting in every scene they had together (like that one scene when they were playing cards and Qrow literally looked away in embarrassment). Lowkey it gave me second hand embarrassment but thats neither here nor there.
This argument would be a lot stronger if I actually put work into putting pictures ans exact quotes but yeah these are just my thoughts. Again you don't have to agree with me or anything I just need to expel these thoughts from my brain.

What are your thoughts about the fight of Ironwood vs everyone in vol. 8? I was so annoyed by it. I felt like they nerfed Ironwood so hard. Oh, and the writers decided to NOW use Marrow's semblance to stop characters before they can start fighting (the Ace Ops). Would have been nice to have consistent writing and have Marrow use that in the fight against RWBY. (Loved your review of JLxRWBY, btw. You put exactly how I felt into words.)
Well the reason you feel like Ironwood was nerfed was, in fact, because he WAS. I pulled this fact from the rwby wikia because I don’t have it in me to actually hunt down the quote, but, according to the Director’s commentary on episode 12, ‘the reason that Ironwood lost was because the writers felt that Team ORNJ deserved a win after losing to Neopolitan in Volume 7.’
So don’t worry, you’re not crazy. Ironwood absolutely got nerfed so MKEK could make sure JNR didn’t look like the jobbers we know they are. That’s plot armour, deus ex machina, and hand of the author at work, straight from the horse’s mouth. No one is allowed call MKEK good writers ever again, do the words 'kill your darlings' mean nothing anymore?
Anyway, this fight. It’s crap. Honestly a lot of the fights in vol8 are just really bad, that volume was just a disgrace in every way. Personal gripe: the song that plays over it, ‘Be Strong and Hit Stuff’, is probably my least favourite song on the entire vol8 album and considering all of them on the whole suck except for the one that was not written for the show, that’s a low bar. Most of why I hate this song is because Nora is without a doubt my absolute least favourite character in the whole show, but it’s also just. I’ll do song rankings one day.
It's just the same style of formulaic combat that rwby does in every fight of the entire volume. It’s just JNROW mashing their attack buttons until they get a decent combo. And the qrow and robyn and marrow vs the other ace ops scene? Don’t even talk to me about that, so Marrow suddenly has the guts to stop fighters in their tracks when it’s his old team? Vol8 really took every character I vaguely liked and put a gun to their likability (except you Watts you kept slaying, I named this blog for YOU).
I mean, real quick combat breakdown: Emerald rips off Mercury’s kick and then does nothing for the rest of the fight. Jaune and Oscar trade off ‘whack ironwood with my bladed weapon/cane’ before Ren does his stupid rope trick and decides he wants to try whack at Ironwood. Ironwood is doing great here honestly, he’s just in full boxer mode, his guard’s consistently up, he recovers quickly and adapts, he lands some good blows. Jaune and Ren also quietly drop out of the fight here, because Nora is getting powered up by Winter, somehow, even though she’s never been shown to use dust ever she suddenly uses it all the time even though her weapon lacks the same sort of dust casing as Weiss so where’s this come from you’d think she’d have used it against Cinder when she was literally getting killed but WHATEVER-
Anyway Nora gets the first major relevant hit on Ironwood because literally of course she does, we cut off to Marrow being a turncoat, and then cut back to Winter and Oscar riding a Manticore while Nora joins Jaune and Ren and Emerald in ‘not existing in this fight sequence anymore’ land, and apparently they just decided after getting one hit in they’d pause to get on an animal instead of continuing attacking, this fight makes no sense.
Anyway, Ironwood destroys the Manticore barehanded, king shit, Winter hits him with the ice dust she suddenly uses, Oscar poke attacks, and right when ironwood’s about to knock this kid out of the stratosphere, Winter uses some sort of flashy finishing move that is literally ripped from Kill La Kill I see those studio trigger sparkles. Again, also makes no fucking sense either, what even is this, and don’t tell me ‘rule of cool’ because it wasn’t cool, it was lame. And also, so much for ‘give JNRO a win’, they can’t even stick to their own favouritism because Winter does all the actual fuckin work here.
Overall scores
Story Context: 4/10
Fight Choreography: 1/10
Authorial Bullshit Intervention (Plot Armour, this time admitted to): 10/10
Emotional Investment: 4/10 (but only because I wanted Ironwood to at least megaton punch Jaune or Nora into outer space)
Deserved Outcome: 1/10
Also, thank you!! I ended up having a lot of fun writing out my JLxRWBY review, even if a lot of it was tempered by Seething Rage. Being a miserly grump sometimes is good for the soul, after all.

Random funfact about my Neo. When they got to Vacuo the vacuo civilians called Neo and monster and was ready to kill her due to her arm, but team RWBY,JNRO,Cinder,Emerald and Qrow were ready to fight that entire kingdom
I know that at some point, my own Neo gets looked at and rejected the moment she starts to try and accept her own scars, but it didn't get to this level of DANGER...

The Incident- part 1.
Ironwood paces back and forth in the operations room as the ace ops and Winter looked at him slightly nervous.
Ironwood: Those darn Beacon kids...how do they defeat and escape one of my ELITE fighting squads!?
This in turn cause the Ace Ops to wince a bit.
Winter: With all due respect sir, we shouldn't underestimate Team JNRO and RWBY...especially Mr. Arc...he is nothing short of a tactical genius.
This did little as Ironwood just paced back and forth faster.
Ironwood: I don't care what must be done, they must be captured before-
Coms: General we are recieving a broadcast transmission from one Jaune Arc!
Ironwood: What!?
One of the screens fired to life and their was Jaune sitting at a desk with his hands together as he looked at the camera with a smile.
Jaune: Good evening, im Jaune Arc, of Beacon academy and leader of Team JNR...now your probably wondering where I am tonight..and it's a funny store lemme give you the quick version.
Jaune: see last night after overcoming Ironwoods 'master' plan to destroy us which included but was not limited too the use of...cheerleaders, an ice queen and a lot of robots.
A look of rage was etched on ironwoods face ad he wS reminded of his failure.
Jaune: after overcoming all those odds and defeating gerneal ironwood..we could not help but see one of his special private military planes over head.
Suddenly a toy plane came into view being held up by Nora too which Jaune looked on confused as Nora made plane noises.
Nora: Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Suddenly Nora started shaking the plane around.
Nora: i-i can't hold us up-s-she breaking up! She breaking up!
Suddenly Nora crashed the plane onto the desk Jaune was sitting at before tossing herself ontop of it, clearing the desk of it trinkets.
Nora: oh the flames! The flames their burning! Their burning!
Nora then proceeded to roll on top of the desk as if to put out a fire.
Jaune said nothing as he watched her roll about.
Nora: drop and roll man, drop and roll! Ahhhhh!
Nora then proceeds to roll off the desk with a loud thud.
Jaune looks at his side before look away from the camera pointing at Nora.
Jaune: Is she gonna be okay?
Ren: It's Nora.
Jaune: Right.
He turns his attention back to the camera that was still live.
Jaune: anyways, we went to this private terminal where Ironwood parks his very very very expensive plane and we JUST had to see it for ourselves.
Jaune let out a sigh.
Jaune: unfortunately their was a bit of an...incident...that took place and well...you should see it for yourselves.
He motioned to Ren to play the video but before Ren could....
Nora: Ohh it hurts it hurts oh god it hurts!
Nora barreled into a wall and rolled on it knocking down some photos and maps before barreling over Jaune knowing him over and then the camera over as well before the screen went dark and the video began to transition.
Ironwoods looked ready to explode as Winter gave out a small chuckle at Arc antics.

Okay AU where Watts never defected and joined Salem but remained in Atlas and when rwby/jnro + Qrow arrive he is just merciless in his critiques of them and how they seemed to make literally every step of their journey infinitely more difficult for themselves. He is also still a petty bitch too James due to the whole choosing Pietro's idea over his ordeal. Petty but still loyal.
i for one live for bitchy petty uncle watts ✨

So Arrowfell introduces 4 new "canon" characters in the game despite the presence of the Happy Huntresses, Ace Ops, FNKI, JNRO, and RWBY. Again with the pointless bloat. At least they don't look too bad but they aren't inspiring either. They also aren't dressed for the weather. It would make more sense for them to be from Mistral or Vacuo.
Why the hell are FNKI even here????

Can you do the self-defense with fruit sketch from Monty Python please?
---------------------------------------------------
Yang: So you've done it, right? With a boy?
Ruby: Mhm.
Yang: ...What's it like?
Saphron: I think it's overrated.
Winter: SHUT UP, YOU!
Winter: Good evening, class!
JNRO: Good evening...
Winter: Where's Pyrrha Nikos?!
JNRO: She's not here.
Winter: I can see that! What's the matter with her?!
Jaune: I don't know.
Nora: She's probably sick.
Winter: SICK?! She should eat more fresh fruit! (Cracks neck)
Winter: Okay! Self-defense! Tonight, we'll be carrying on from last week, when I taught you all how to defend yourselves when attacked by someone armed with a piece of fresh fruit! (Cracks neck)
JNRO: (Groan)
Jaune: You did fruit last week!
Ren: And the week before.
Nora: For the past nine weeks!
Winter: OH! So you think you know it all then, huh?!
Oscar: W-Well, why don't we try something new? Like if someone attacks us with a stick?
Winter: WITH A STICK?! OH, OH, OH, so we want to learn how to defend ourselves from a stick, do we?! Aren't we getting all high and mighty?! Fresh fruit not good enough for you, is it?! OH, OH, OH! LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, LITTLE LAD! WHENEVER YOU WALK HOME TONIGHT AND SOME CREEP TRIES TO ATTACK YOU WITH HOMICIDAL INTENT, USING A BUNCH OF GOOSEBERRIES, DON'T COME CRYING TO ME!
Winter: Right! Now, let us begin with the passion fruit!
JNRO: We already done the passion fruit.
Winter: What?
Ren: We already did passion fruit.
Nora: We did oranges, apples, grapefruits-
Jaune: Whole and segmented.
Nora: Passion fruits, durians, tomatoes, plums, pineapples, and magoes in syrup!
Winter: ...What about bananas? We haven't done bananas, have we?
JNRO: No...
Winter: RIGHT! Now, how to defend yourself from a madman armed with a banana! It's quite simple! Catch!
Jaune: (Catches)
Winter: First, force him to drop the banana. Then, you eat the banana, rendering him unarmed! He is now helpless!
Ren: What if he's carrying a bushel?
Winter: SHUT UP!
Oscar: What if he has a stick?
Winter: SHUT UP! Now, you, Mister Artichoke!
Jaune: Arc.
Winter: Arc! Right, sorry. Come at me, and mean it this time, for Brother's sake.
Jaune: (Raises banana, Charges, Screaming)
Winter: (Drives cutlass into him, Takes banana)

I mean can't team RWBYE and JNRO do the same thing? Team RWBYE with Raven return to Vale to help Glynda while JNRO with Qrow and Winter stay to help Vacuo. I mean we seen Jaune on an island dealing with inhabitants so work like Vacuo may be nothing to him.
Jaune is also or suppose to be a strangest and leader. So him staying Vacuo is for the best especially if he starts learning about their issues. Unlike with Ever after Jaune could come up with better solutions mainly compromises as he should realize by now he can't keep every promise. If he can't be a warrior then he try being a king.
Ruby returns to Vale mainly her father is still there. Next her uncovering the truth behind Raven and Summer which was introduced in the Ever After. And if as the show tries to force down our throats team RWBY is the strongest team to handle this. Not just that Salem and Cinder are both Ruby's main villain's.
Well I mean Port says Glynda is gone looking for help so she can't be in Vale anymore

Spoilers for the end of Arrowfell below
It’s kind of hysterical to me that the game has James be angry on behalf of the harm caused to everyone not just the wealthy or just the poor. He points out the pain caused to everyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CRWBY is trying to act like in volume 8 he only cares for some people while having him show he cares about everyone and having him be repeatedly betrayed by people who where selfish jerks. It’s truly a wonder James trusted RWBY JNRO as much as he did given all the betrayals he’s suffered by so called friends.
We’re supposed to think James doesn’t care about people but he makes a point to call out harm being caused to people so it just does not work for what the show tries to do later on. A friend pointed out this just really shows how CRWBY only had James do what he did because they’re angry people liked him rather then it being something they actually wanted to do “from the beginning”.

Top 5 best fights? Top 5 worst fights? In RWBY. Maybe split between the ones that are well/poorly choreographed and ones that are well/poorly written.
Right well generally when I'm looking at a fight I like to ask these things. Is the fight:
Well-Written (serves the plot/in character)
Well-Choreographed
Has the Funky Extra Stuff (music, setting, all the lil fx bits)
Does it make sense to happen in-universe beyond being ‘well rwby is a fighting anime so here’s a fight’ gif bait (like, was the lead up good or is it contrived, did it make sense to be duking it out, grimm just randomly showing up is acceptable in all cases because that's the point of them in-universe)
Entertaining to Watch
and if it gets like, 3 of those I'll consider it a good fight. 3 outta 5 is good. So here's my top 5, all of which I think are a 5/5 on this. I also decided to challenge myself by not picking multiple from each volume.
Top 5 Fights in RWBY, as judged by Metawatts.
Tyrian v RNJR and Qrow (listen tyrian's just really good at this)
Ruby vol4 character short (my fav trailer)
Yang v Mercury (best choreo in all rwby)
Weiss and Pilot v Lancers (i liked the physics on this one)
RWBY v Paladin (the one singular time team rwby fought as a proper team)
Extra freebie because I deserve it: Blacksun vs Roman (gunchucks)
Now. As for. The top 5 worst that I don't like. That's not to say that they don't get a 0/5, but that I personally don't rate them all that well. Also I should note the Battle for Haven and all of vol8 are freebies because every one of those fights minus maybe raven v cinder were goddamn dogshit. And I can't pick rwby v ace ops because I've already bagged on it
Cordovin's Mech v The Idiot Brigade (absolute worst fight, stupidest plotline, literally what made me start critiquing rwby, I came out of my well to shame rwby for this and did not go back and now I have a rwde blog)
JNPR v BRNZ (the fact that they stopped the fight to have a conversation. just. all of it. JNPR is not as funny as crwby seems to think they are)
the Whole Furious Cat Fight at the end of vol9 (all shit, even the one single bit of good scythe choreo, why couldn't Neo have just. stayed the villain again?)
Atlas Montage/FNKI v JNRO (screw you atlas montage and your weird blake/qrow duet and also Nora's weird possessive creepiness over Ren)
CFVY in the Breach (i literally hate all of team cfvy except maybe velvet, fuck those books)
So yeah! Fun times!
