Hi everyone! I'm currently writing a kidlit book and I would love to have a few beta readers!  

This is meant to be a chapter book for young readers (so about ages 7-12, probably leaning more on the younger side of this range), inspired by Daisy Meadows and Gwyneth Rees' Rainbow Fairy and Fairy Dust series respectively.

I would be happy to get some feedback and critique on this piece, especially since this is the first kidlit book I've written! You'll be reading off a google doc for this, and I'll make sure you have the ability to leave comments on the piece as well so you can leave your feedback there. 

Title: Sadie And The Search For The Missing Necklace (working title, subject to change for the final product later on) 

Genre: Kidlit/Fantasy 

Word count: 7528 

Short synopsis: After losing her grandma's necklace, Sadie must work together with a fairy named Pearl in order to find it. But can Sadie learn to trust Pearl as they continue working together, or will her doubts about others keep them from finding the necklace at all? 

Desired feedback: Overall impressions, impressions about plot and characters, worldbuilding, and any other questions you might have. 

Deadline: No later than Jan. 20th, 2023!

Harry and the Dinosaurs--a WIP

Some of you, especially if you grew up across the pond, may remember this book series. It was about a young boy who went on lighthearted adventures with his bucket of toy dinosaur friends. It was known as Sammy and the Dinosaurs in America, but it never really took off there.

Some of you may also know of the cartoon the book series was adapted into. It took a similar tack to the books, but it reduced the dinosaurs down to a six recognizable characters. It also introduced a place called "Dino World," a bright, colorful location which had whatever Harry and his dino pals wanted or needed. They usually accessed it by jumping into the bucket.

What some of you may not know is that Ian Whybrow, the author, decided to make a spinoff of his book series aimed at older readers. Titled simply Harry and the Dinosaurs, it featured the adventures of an older Harry solving mysteries with both his human and dinosaur friends. The dinosaurs, like Harry, grew with the audience, appearing this time not as toys, but as plastic cards on Harry's key ring. They were also much bigger, scarier, and more realistic than they were before.

It got me thinking: what if the makers of the cartoon had decided to follow the same path? What I mean is, what if they had made a spinoff of the Harry series for older kids?

That's what this WIP is going to be about. It's going to explore what an adaptation of the older Harry and the Dinosaurs series might be like. I'll be making more posts about this at some point.

Some more work on a historical setting characters… I was sorta sad about moving the story to the 30’s because of the segregation in sports. But I think I figured out a good way to bring attention to it while also telling the main story and letting the characters be characters.

Hi there, fellow readers and writers! I’m Claris (she/her).

I write a wide variety of works including poetry and fiction. I also post book reviews biweekly and fanfics weekly, though expect more of my focus to be on original works this year!

Fiction:

I published the first book in my murder mystery series, “Winner Takes All: A Harlow Mystery” in June 2022, and you can click here for more details about it! Also, I’m participating in this month’s Camp NaNoWriMo event! 

I have no specific project I’m working on for this time around, as I want to use it to just write as much as possible. The goal is 25,000 words written overall!

Currently Pitching/Querying:

“Sadie’s Search For The Missing Necklace:” A kidlit fantasy book inspired by Gwyneth Rees’ Fairy Dust series and Daisy Meadows’ Rainbow Fairy series. As of this writing, I just pitched this book to a traditional publisher and (hopefully) they’ll let me know by late April/early May latest if they said yes to it or not! Wish me luck!

Current WIPS:

A fantasy novel inspired by the video game series King’s Quest. I am currently still writing its first draft and I’ve spoken a bit on this blog about how it’s going so far. I just finished writing the first draft in mid-February, so this WIP is on a break for now while I work on...

"An Engagement To Die For:” The sequel to “Winner Takes All,” the murder mystery that I self-published last year (June 2022)! I am still currently editing this novel but I hope I can have them completely finalized by the end of April!

I also have other novels I’m writing during this time, butttt I won’t tell you what they are yet because they’re very early in the writing process. XD

Fanfiction:

You most likely know of my writing fanfiction for The Last Story, Bravely Default/Second, and Escape The Night.

I’m currently posting chapters for a The Last Story/Super Smash Bros. crossover fanfic called “Super Smash Bros: The Next Story!” You can read it on either Fanfiction.net or Archive Of Our Own! New chapters come weekly!

I also have been posting occasional oneshots as well.
