It's Cloud Town Tuesday The day I post an image from my graphic novel and talk about the process of making it!Months had gone by as I waited eagerly to hear about the next steps to publishing my first graphic novel. When I got an email asking if I wanted to illustrate a case and end pages for the Cloud Town hardcover there was less than a week before those illustrations needed to be in the hands of the book designer. I said yes before I knew for certain what a "case" was--Googling "case" and "book case" did not help. If you want to see a case, check last Tuesday's post, but for now all you need to know is that the case took a pretty long time for me to draw, which left me with 2 days to design 6 end-pages.

End-pages are those pretty pages that glue a book into a hardcover case (there's a context clue for you), and for me, they had always been a thing of wonder. They are the wrapping of the book--the closest thing we have to music as we fade in and fade out of a comic. I was delighted to have the chance to design my own, but the time crunch was startling. But as they say, necessity is the mother of invention. This is what I came up with, and I'll tell you more about it next week!

Ok I'm gonna say this because, even though a lot of the characters in Atab don't have concrete designs down, it needs to be said

Please, don't under any circumstances, in any way,shape,or form, use my characters as ai in art, chatbots etc, in fact, don't even bring ai near my characters

For one, the characters aren't drawn by me, as of now they're drawn by @gay-trashcan-cat and @mjtheartist04 and I can guarantee they wouldn't appreciate their talent being used in that way

Second, I don't want something I've been passionate about for so long being used in this slop.

Does ai have a place? Yes

Medicine,chores, accessibility,coding etc

Not.in.art

No matter how good your ai "art" is, nothing will compare to the time,effort, passion and personality of actual art.

I had to say this after someone deliberately went against @startheskelaton's (go follow them, their urban kiju au is amazing) wishes of having their au characters be used in ai chatbots, ai will never belong in art

Gorilla Ambam's Neighbours This is the blackback group from the Port Lympne Wildlife resort. Ambam's Neighbours. In this group are Gorilla Bou (February 22nd 2011), Gorilla Kabale (August 15th 2011), Gorilla Kiju (July 7th 2009), Gorilla Njumum and Gorilla Nkomou (April 8th 2009). They all came from the sister zoo Howletts Wildlife Animal Park. Unfortunately, I can't give you any more info at the moment as the photos I have of them are from when they were much younger and they are now pretty much unrecognizable. I tried very hard but failed miserably in finding out more about the group. Which is a real shame. Kiju Yoshida's groundbreaking work compares the love and independence of anarchist Osugi Sakae, assassinated by the military in 1923, to the vanguard of modern day Japan. The story tells of Sakae's relationship with three women: Hori Yasuko, his wife; Ito Noe, his third lover, who was to die with him; and his jealous second lover, Masaoka Itsuko, a militant feminist who attempts to kill him in a tea house in 1916. Parallel to the reconstitution of Osugi's life, two students do research on the political theories and ideas of free love that he upheld. Some of the characters from the past and from the present meet and engage the themes of the movie.
