Klaroline WIP Wed - 1423 AU - 2.2 - There Was Only One Horse

They only had one horse, and Caroline did not know how to ride on her own. She was sure she could learn—given a proper saddle—but they didn’t have the time for instructions or to check every well-off stable they came across for a side-saddle. Which meant that for the past three days, Caroline had been subjected to a daily torture she hadn’t expected when she set out to fetch a living spell ingredient.

There were some personal accounts of encounters with the Originals to be found in the esoteric libraries her kind kept secret and hidden in the Mother of Cities. Caroline had always found these tales fascinating for their depth of horror, and the few good things recorded were often tempered by a devil’s bargain.

Nothing could have prepared her for sharing a horse. A horse that Klaus very obligingly saddled and packed each morning, a private, taunting smile tucked away in the corners of his mouth.

A mouth that lingered in her field of view every time he lifted her onto the saddle, that small glimmer of a knowing that stiffened her spine, even as she noticed every other detail about him in a sort of hyper focus that did not bode well for her sanity: the feeling of his hands tight on her waist, his shoulders under the wool of his tunic firm against her palms as she steadied herself on her precarious perch. And then, horribly, that lurching moment in her stomach when she couldn’t help herself and looked into his blue eyes that were, without fail, looking up into hers.

Wringing her hair out took a moment, and then she scooped a couple fingers full of soap out of the little jar. Tilting her head to the side over the basin, she began to lather her hair, working the soap through the strands. If only she could scrub her ever circling mind clean the same way.

Why had he gone and kissed her like that, like it had been the whole point of getting out of that box, like it had been more necessary than air? She kept on thinking about it, the kiss a fuzzy haze in her memories, mouth soft, tongue a barely there tease. Wait, was there tongue? Just what she didn’t need, her mind inventing a new madness for her to cling to. She was expecting to be fretting with worry over Enzo, not obsessing over some vampire with boundary issues.

Everything was a constant tug of war with Klaus. She always tried sitting stiffly originally, leaning away from his body, but that did her little good. The motion of the horse brought her back to him time and time again.

“It really is more comfortable if you move with the horse,” Klaus had said, voice a murmur in her ear that stirred the hair on the back of her neck. She tried not to shiver, focused on the fact that he sounded piqued.

She had gritted her teeth against the soreness in her spine. “I’m fine,” she had said, making an effort not to squirm. His thighs held her hips in place; she didn’t need to make this situation worse.

“Caroline, do try to relax. Don’t worry, I won’t bite.” Somehow, this low pronouncement was not reassuring, its tone a temptation of the unknown. 

They had ridden for what felt like hours. When she had finally allowed her spine to curve into the front of his chest, Klaus had made a pleased little noise, his nose brushing the curve of her ear and breath warm on her neck.

“Should I add ‘obstinate’ to the list of things I know about you, sweetheart?” This close, the timbre of his voice had hummed through her bones.

The Danbeau fic from Monica's POV which starts sad with the day Carol went missing and ends funny with Monica deciding to parent trap her mom and Auntie Carol.

Morai's Call To Hope

This is another WIP which is giving me lots and lots of guilt because I really am proud of it even though I haven't updated it in quite a while (but I'm planning to go back to it after She's Come Undone).

Basically, it's the story where pre-worst decision Anakin travels forward in time to save Ahsoka from Darth Vader and proceeds to be hit over the head with the consequences of all his WORST DECISIONS until he learns things like: don't trust Palpatine, and you should have hugged Snips more, and there's more people at stake than just your wife.

Seriously, I am going back to this fic. I've got the entire thing plotted out.

26. Do you write for yourself or for the readers?

Both? I mean when the idea for a fic strikes I NEED to write it, I want to see how it turns out and what happens and it helps dealing with all the feelings that the show and the characters have given me. But I also really really want to see what other people think of it, if they like it. If it's any good.

34: Favourite comment you ever received?

I love all of the comments I've ever received... that sounds like a very political answer but it's really true.

But. I have received some extra EXTRA special comments on occasion too which have just literally blown up my heart (I will use 'literally' incorrectly if I want to).

It would be way too complicated to go find all of them. But basically, it's the comments that tell me stuff like that the person read the story multiple times, or the person loved it so much they read it even though they were supposed to be doing homework/sleeping/working, or they didn't even ship it before but they do now, or they hadn't watched the show before they read the fic but my story made them go watch the show. Or it's a comment from someone whose fics I've read and adored and I go into a slight meltdown.

So, yeah, those are my favorite kind of comments I guess.

soulmate + interrupted declaration of love !!! please..

omg soulmate hmm i don't read heaps of these BUT for klaroline (hehe) in universe but canon divergence if you will...where a touch is what sets off the soulmate magic. Klaus grabs her wrist in the middle of them fighting (klaus is still obsessed even then, obviously) and they're both like oh dear. Bonnie has to explain soulmates to the gang but klaus already knows it's a thing. I'd keep a lot of what happens between them in the canon but focus on like a period where klaus is just sort of in mystic falls and he's been betrayed by caroline and vice versa and how they keep being drawn together while still being enemies...there would be a few ill-advised kisses etc.... and then at a ball (always having their founders balls and dances!!) caroline would finally try to confess (they're in a library) because she's seen his moments of good and also she doesn't gaf she's a vampire BUT they're interrupted by like everyone because of a supernatural situation (of course) and caroline gets taken almost killed etc and klaus comes to her rescue.... HE confesses under dire circumstances and she says it back... they girlboss out of there and it ends with them in italy :-)

End Of The Year Fics

We are days away from the end of 2021, so Librarian Sabrina and I thought we would share our reading list.

Here are stories I would love to finish before 2021 ends:

Spin by @galvanizedfriend: A fic that’s lovers to rivals to lovers? You can bet that I’m all over this story. This is such a fun read! Yokan has a way with words that as a reader, you can understand the internal struggles and feelings of the characters. 

Indefinitely by Turningofflights: The story description is captivating. The idea of Klaus and Caroline magically linked is such an interesting plot idea. Plus the Klaus and Katherine friendship? Can’t wait to read this.

I Heard A Rumor by @honestgrins: I love this so much! Can’t get enough of Caroline Forbes going to New Orleans stories.

And Equal Partners We Shall Be by @lalainajanes: I haven’t started this yet but based on the tags of exes to lovers, past messy breakup between KC and they’ve grown though - I’m hooked.

Waiting For You by @misssophiachase: I will never get tired of fluff and humor stories but then throw in Klaus and Caroline as detectives, I knew this would be a must-read for me.

Klaroline WIP Wed!! - waffle house fic - Unexpected Guest

Okay so @averseunhinged made a post about how the lack of Waffle Houses in The Vampire Diaries is weird and this got the gremlin in my head rolling on this Caroline in college studying at a Waffle House in the middle of the night, while Mikaelsons drop by and annoy her scenario, and I've just been idly writing while at work on it.

Many people will tell you that a Waffle House at 1 a.m. is a liminal space. An in-between realm where anything can happen. The concept of liminal spaces mostly got lost on Caroline once she became a member of the walking, talking undead, although Bonnie still swore they were a thing, like the creepy old house where she had communed with the witch spirits.

Waffle Houses were nothing like that, with their crappy fluorescent lighting, cheap Formica booths and bar countertops, waitresses that had seen far too much shit to be phased by most random Acts of God and the patronage of the local meth den, and an eternal pot of slightly singed coffee. Anything could happen there, yeah, but usually it was about as grounded in reality as you could get. Reality made certain you knew it had come to knock.

Tonight was not going to be one of those nights.

Caroline liked to come to the Waffle House closest to campus to study some nights. It was a nice walk, good for clearing her head and getting out of the tiny dorm she shared with Bonnie and Elena. She thought she had prepared for sharing with other people, these were her best friends, of course! But apparently, you can put the only child in the dorm, but you cannot take the only child out of the girl, because sharing sink space with two other people who had different ideas about small things like leaving toothpaste in the sink was actually a lot more stressful than she had anticipated. 

And not to sound like a sociopath but the breathing, other people breathing. You’d think after a lifetime of sleepovers that she would be fine, used to the rhythms of her friends. That was a) before she gained vampire hearing, and b) dependent on the fact that you’re always exhausted at a sleepover, and her friends went home the next night. 

Caroline didn’t really do a lot of sleeping anymore. 

Staying in the dorm while the other girls slept wasn’t an option either–apparently, she was too active, even while studying, and kept waking them up–so she’d tried a few options: the college library, the dining hall, and the computer lab. None of them worked for her, so she’d started looking through the few blocks around campus. 

The Waffle House two blocks down was exactly what she was looking for. It was just noisy enough with the jukebox, the short-order cook calling out orders, and the quiet gossip of the waitresses that she didn’t feel like she was disturbing anyone with her soft humming and the rapid clicks of her highlighter caps. They’d refill her coffee cup as it got low, and about every hour she’d order a different slice of pie to help with the cravings. 

“Where are you putting away all that pie, sweet thing?” Marcy–the middle-aged mom of a son in college who was often her waitress during the midnight hours–would ask her, and Caroline would grin back at her.

“Fast metabolism,” she’d say, tucking into a slice of whatever she’d ordered. “I’m just constantly hungry.”

Marcy would cluck her tongue the same way every time. “It’s b’cuz you’re eating junk food. You want something a bit more filling, you let me know.” And Caroline would agree, and in an hour order more pie.

Tonight was a mostly quiet night, Marcy in the corner rolling a giant container of silverware with June, the other server. Frank the cook was humming tunelessly along to the jukebox while he cleaned. Two tables had guests, but they were quiet. Caroline had her biology book spread out on her booth table with her class notebook and a small pile of highlighters and gel pens next to it, going through her class notes and the chapter text, trying to decide what she would need based on the syllabus for the midterm. Her professor was very anti-study guide and Caroline was determined that she was going to ace this class despite his low scores on Rate My Professor. It was a Tuesday where nothing had happened, was happening, was going to happen.

Quick notes from S4E3 of TVD:

1. We met Hayley. And wow I never remembered where she came from before now. I don’t love that she’s hinting that Tyler cheated on Caroline while Hayley was helping him break the sire bond. Caroline deserves better, Hayley deserves better, Tyler can fall in a hole and die.

2. There was a scene where Hayley and Klaus meet in the Lockwood’s library while Tyler and Caroline are talking at the front door. And Tyler basically shoos Caroline away while citing that he has to stay at home with the hunter out on the loose and Klaus trying to protect him. And once both girls leave, Klaus kind of has a moment of giving Tyler a lot of shit for seeming to have cheated on Caroline. Which is just a really fucking underrated Klaroline moment in the TVD fandom.

There's this new project that started just last month, @klarolinelibrary and @klarolinegallery. They aim to promote all kinds of KC creators, be it art, graphics, gifsets, posters and also fic writers. They also do all these little events and fandom stuff to get people engaged. :) It's super cool and I'm sure you'll find loads of other people to follow there as well through their recs, reblogs and the libraries with all their fanfics and edits. Make sure you check out their web versions cause it's gorgeous!

I also really love @becauseofklaroline, they reblog the most stunning stuff! @careforbesdaily is always posting awesome Caroline content. @mikaelsonsource and @klaussgifs are a go-to for Klausy things and they also post some KC stuff from time to time. @klarolinefanficdirectory is an amazing blog that's been around for ages doing God's work for this fandom. @tvdversegifs and @fyeahklaroline for gifsets and stuff. And if you're looking for events and fandom interaction in general, there's @klaroline-event.
