I have the most wildest theory* for Bucky's travesty of hairstyle. John Walker's gonna be in Thunderbolts, yeah? Maybe... Ma.rvel told the stylist department downgraded Bucky to turn J.W into their next hearthrob. 🫠
*For legal reasons, this is a joke, lmao.
Hmmm, I mean, the man decapitated a whole ass person in front of god and everyone in a public area very graphically and messily with a shield, so like 😂 the people who love him are riding with Walker already as fans and the people who can't after that (or even before that tbh) aren't going to go for him because Idk if a glow up saves you from doing shit like that 🤣🤣🤣 He's definitely not off my "fuck you" list even if they make him like some Maybelline model 😂

I'm not an active Peggy hater, nor am I deep in that side of the MCU, but I've seen a lot of posts, so I'm going to summarize what I've seen about her (pls take with a grain of salt since I'm going off of what I remember).
I've seen descriptive posts that detail why they think/why they know Peggy (and Howard) was involved with/knew about/allowed nazi activity that happened within S.H.I.E.L.D. and talk about how she worked with Nazis and allowed expierimentation canonically, and they dislike her for that. I've also seen people say that they don't like how actively Marvel was trying to push Captain Carter rather than Sam Wilson Captain America and that, sometimes combined with the first thing, makes a lot of people upset and generally the use of a white woman over the black man they've presented as the new Captain America in the mcu movies. There was apparently some controversy about just how much they were constantly promoting her over Sam and other characters on twitter, but I wasn't part of that, so I've only heard about it.
Then there's the Bucky aspect and people feeling that ever since Marvel realized Stucky was a ship, they've been trying to smother it. I've seen posts that say that the Captain Carter What if reuses a lot of the Winter Solider plot devices, but now under a romantic light because it's Peggy and Steve and not Steve with a man, so that rubs people the wrong way. And I've seen some people say that since she had a high position at S.H.I.E.L.D., combined with the other nazi stuff, she probably knew about Bucky and other Hydra things that she never tried to stop.
There's things I've seen lesser of like Peggy shooting at Steve in the first movie or her general characterization or oversaturation, and I'm sure those things also influence how they see Captain Carter because if they don't like one version of Peggy, I think it's reasonable to assume they don't like any version of her, no mater what the multiverse is.
That's all I can think of! Maybe someone else who actually knows more will do a better job than me. I would say you could go through the anti peggy tag, but I don't think you'd very easily find actual criticism posts, mostly just complaining since that's what anti tags are for lol
Ah ok, thank you. I do not feel the same about most of your points, but I do get them.
Personally I'd criticize the creators for pushing one character and ignoring another, that alone does not make me hate the character, but the narrative and the creative decisions.
With Sam Wilson it would be more a case of 'both', they could both play a role in what if, and the blame for Wilson not being included def falls on Feige, whatever reasons he might have.
(I absolutely do get being frustrated about a general lack of decent representation on all fronts, but well, Disney, so personally I nitpick what little we get).
The nazi stuff could be an actual turn off for me, but I know to little about that. The Cap movies aren't my personal faves so I might have missed stuff and I did not watch the solo show.
I should look into it tho, sounds like an interesting discussion.
Still makes me wonder on another level, since even Red Skull has a lot of fans (but then again, actual Nazis still exist, so there's that).
I appreciate you making the effort of gathering those points, anon, it's hard to get an actual answer on here, no matter the subject.

Darling (I hope you get this) ~ I'm enjoying tremendously your commentary as you watch IW - especially your Stephen comments😍. He never gets enough of the love he so deserves!
Stephen yelling after seeing 14 million outcomes... and nobody hugs him or anything, goddammit. I volunteer. Seriously though, he saved the freaking universe just by doing that and yet he never gets a thanks from anybody. Worse, he's blamed instead!
You know I'm with you on this. I wrote a whole fic to remind people of this and to give him the love & comfort he deserves. And ofc, I blame Feige for allowing his pet writer to completely ignore Stephen's burden, suffering, and PTSD in the movie that was supposed to be about him.
And about Gamora - the way she cries after 'killing' Thanos. I don't understand how people don't see it exactly as Zoe played it. It's catharsis, not grief or guilt. She carried the pain of everything Thanos had put her through for a almost a lifetime. Catharisis, relief, disbelief that it was all finally over. I recognize those kind of tears. I mean, who amongst us hasn't experienced such a moment?
Loving all the Steve love, too.💙
Hey dear, good to hear from you! 😉 I'm happy to know you enjoyed it, I was basically rambling last night lol
When I think of characters who have been treated unfairly by the MCU, Stephen is at the top of the list. Out of all the sacrifices and the pain he has been through, it's like the studio is allergic to allowing him to have some kind of emotional support. You and I both have the headcanon that Wong is the one who's always there for him, but it can't be anything more than a headcanon because the movies just won't give us their close friendship on-screen even though in the comics it's glorious. Stephen deserves some form of narrative protection and he can only get that if other characters acknowledge what he has done, if they defend him, if they support him.
And another thing that I despise (and there's a lot of this in MoM) is that if they're going to shine a light on his flaws and his mistakes... they should also shine a light on his virtues and his sacrifices and how much of a selfless and good man he is. It's not fair that whenever he does something wrong that's practically plastered all over but his many displays of kindness go unnoticed. It's crazy, only his fans notice! No wonder so many people think he's like Stark even though he's nothing like him. I so miss the Ancient One the way Derrickson wrote her...
Just the thought of all the pain he went through in IW being disregarded and knowing that, in canon, he's being blamed for the deaths instead of being thanked for saving the universe is truly upsetting.
Regarding Gamora, I couldn't agree more with you. That is exactly how I read it as well and I believe the writers meant to say just that, but I suppose since the rest of the movie tries so hard to show Thanos as sympathetic, a lot of people take his words as gospel - and he does say in that scene that Gamora was crying for him.
And Steve, well... I mean... I'm an absolute hopeless fangirl. I know you like him a lot too, how could we not? He's wonderful... and we only had one movie with Nomad Steve so we might as well enjoy it. We were robbed of a Steve/Stephen friendship, I would have loved them hanging out together, I think they could have been good friends. Oh well, good thing we got fanfic for that!
By the way, I can't believe you're still in shadowban, it's been so long already. I got an email with the notification of your ask but I saw nothing on the site. Not cool, staff!

hi !! you can call me jay :) im a professional writer/literary editor. i use they/she pronouns. im 23, from the us, and have been in the marvel fandom since about 2013 or 2014 (watching iron man as a little kid doesn’t count) but now i’m like a reformed marvel stan in that i am so. fucking tired lol… spare good content, kevin feige ??? my posts primarily focus on cap quartet, especially steve rogers + bucky barnes, but you’ll also see other marvel media (like spider-man !!!!!!), dc, the occasional merlin post, poetry, fine art, music, aesthetics, memes, american girl, avengers-adjacent theme park stuff, and any other things that strike my fancy <3 some of my primary interests besides marvel include celtic and slavic mythology, fairytales, comics, and history !!
i headcanon steve rogers as bisexual, and mcu!bucky as gay (in terms of comics!bucky barnes, i could see him as more ambiguously MLM or bi). i consider myself a multishipper, with my main ships being stevebucky and samsteve, however i love love love samstevebucky (or stevesambucky ????), and enjoy others such as winterhawk, sambucky, clintasha, carolmaria, petermj, and sammisty too !! typically, i tend to only write for the first three but i enjoy fanfic and fanart for all of them. cartinelli also has a lot of nostalgia (and other more painful emotions) associated with it so there might be some of that on here in my older posts if you go through those tags. also i have three captain america ocs from my works a winter in the sun + a summer in new york: stepan, dani, and (bu)chanan, who appear on here from time to time.
im @faeriecap on all social platforms ! i love making new friends so please feel free to say hi in my asks or dms <3
disclaimer: this blog is often critical of the mcu in general, with specific posts sometimes focusing on its writers’ depictions of tony stark, peggy carter/captain britain, and representations of bucky barnes + his trauma in fatws. furthermore, i’m anti endg*me steve + i do not support the casting of elizabeth olsen as wanda.

I agree I think she needs to take a break. It looks like she might be slowing things down as she doesn't have anything lined up after that Ocean's movie? But yeah she's been so focused on getting a big franchise (lol remember that Pirates movie she was gonna be in?) and also getting an oscar at the same time that's it's hurt her career. About 2 years ago she talked about wanting to do a romcom and horror and those are not bad directions for her go in imho. Honestly though I don't think she'll rest until she has that oscar so.... maybe then she's start doing interesting movies again. Look at Emma Stone for example, she's low-key been having a very good and interesting post oscars career.
Agree completely with a romcom and a horror flick being good for her. I think that one thing she really pigeonholed herself with, which I believe Barbie helps her avoid, is this big, brassy, "oh she's so pretty but she's actually a BROAD" thing. Like, I get it, her breakout moment (The Wolf of Wall Street) and her most acclaimed performance (I, Tonya, which I really loved her in) relied on that element. But then it's like... that's also every Harley movie... Birds of Prey least, but that also got the least shine. And then she did that with Babylon, but like, x 10.
I'd love to see her in a horror movie, a romcom, anything where she could also use her natural accent more.
Emma has definitely gotten better since she won her Oscar, even if I hate the movie she won it for... so much. She's also done something that used to be A Thing, but I feel we've kind of lost in more recent years? I feel like so many actors want to be able to play everything with everyone--and while diversifying genres makes business sense, I also feel that having creators you super gel with and performers you repeat with is super valuable. I mean, Ryan is doing another movie with Margot after this; Ryan did like... three movies with Emma Stone.
And Emma has gotten in good with Tony McNamara--he did the screenplay for both of her Yorgos movies and Cruella. He's good with Yorgos, she's good with Yorgos, the three of them work well together, it seems. There's nothing wrong with an actor repeating with these creators. Shit, look at how often Scorsese has worked with Leo, and how well that worked for both of them.
Of course, part of the reason why this is harder to find these days is that so many actors want to be in a huge franchise, and those works are really less about the creators and more about the execs in charge. Like, even when a Marvel movie is interesting, the ultimate puppeteer isn't Taika Waititi or the Russos or whoever. It's Kevin Feige. The DC puppeteer will be James Gunn, I guess, though--lmao, good luck, dude.

He has a new contract that we don't know what it is. He's not doing it because he wants to, but it's a contract thing,>> Not sure what fantasy land you are living in anon, but Marvel is not indentured servitude. Actors are usually the ones begging to be included in a Marvel project because it's the franchise in movie history. I'm sure Seb feels lucky to still be included, especially alongside such high calibre actors like Florence Pugh, JLD and Wyatt Russel. FYI, Marvel no longer does 9 picture deals since Endgame, now it's only single project contracts – screenrant*com/marvel-studios-9-movie-contract-done-why-details
Anon 2: but actually doesn’t want to be in a Marvel movie and is only doing it because he has a contract? >> He signed the contract years ago, after Endgame, back then there was no Pam and Tommny, Emmy nomination, Fresh, nothing. MCU likes actors to sign contracts for various products, so yes, he will do it for the sake of the contract. That's how it works.
Anon 3: Still trying to understand why people are offended by he did it because of contract or money. There's nothing wrong with doing something for the sake of money. Seb likes Bucky but he doesn't need to like what they're doing with the character so I feel like for him it's more huh they're paying me this money. You Bucky fans don't care that they're still shitting on the character so why would Seb care? Take the money, Seb!
Anon 4: I'm really disappointed that he's still in the MCU, I really am. He's going to have to turn down projects because of months of filming for a movie that's going to be rubbish, shit./ ok and? What that gotta do with you? Seb is literally booking some people want him in the MCU either way he’s going to still work. Even before it’s announced that he’s back he was doing projects after projects he knows what’s he’s doing and honestly he’s getting up there idk why people can be grateful and asking for sm
Anon 5: Everyone should get down their high horse, if if If If Florence Pugh and Julia Louis-fucking-Dreyfus can be in the thunderbolts movie, not even talking about people like Olivia Colman or Christian Bale still signing up to do a one-time character, then Sebastian is more than likely satisfied with being involved. It's damn good money, if anything
Anon 6: The “fans” who are disappointed that Sebastian is in Thunderbolts should consider themselves not fans because how much more disrespectful could a person be in regards to Sebastian’s career. Either be his fan and support him, or go away. It’s that simple.
Anon 7: It seems pretty clear to me that Seb was done with Bucky after FATWS unless he got a decent story, and Feige gave him one with TB, so yes, he signed a new MCU contract of unknown length based on this new turn of events. And yes, he may have to turn down a role or two because of it, but starring in an Avenger-type Marvel movie is a level of exposure Marvel's never given him before, and it will open more doors at a higher level. So the net gain for Seb should be absolutely fantastic.
Anon 7: Seeing all the mcu is slander and everything really tells me that you really cannot make everyone happy lol. As for Seb being forced due to contract, Elizabeth Olsen mentioned that she has signed a different contract each time she came back, so there’s that. Thunderbolts is gonna bring bring him a lot a of visibility and help him set up a leading man, given 2024 award season would include ADM and Dumb Money. Shit on marvel as much as you want but they still are the biggest franchise in the world and since he’s finally gonna be a co-leader, it’s gonna help him in a lot of promotions and campaigns, even if it releases later. (Ps: I’m really sorry mods you have to go through all those cranky anons)
Anon 8: Being part of MCU/DC Comics /Starwars franchise has become the latest new trinket to have in Hollywood. "A" list actors are putting themselves out there to be part of one of these franchises. Kim Kardashian is vying for a spot in the MCU multiverse( I hope she doesn't get in). They might be rubbish to you but these movies are exposing the actors to new audiences. Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie weren't on my radar until I saw them in the MCU. I now follow their work. The sh!t movies are making hundreds of millions to billions of dollars. They're a nice palette cleanse from the more serious dramas.
Is anyone else tired of contract talk? He signed one, whether it’s a new one or a revision of his previous one. The end. Lots of A-list talent in the MCU, Seb is probably thrilled to be working with fellow actors he hasn’t had a chance to yet like JDL & Miss Flo.
And if you’re not an MCU fan or unhappy with Bucky’s character development, go read some fanfic (like I do!) when canon doesn’t suffice.

Honestly I disagree with you guys and what makes me uncomfortable isn’t questioning my own opinions - I don’t care enough about Loki to be made uncomfortable by my thoughts on him - but more the fact that a group of people sitting here stewing like this over a few hours of television with most of that stewing rage directed at women is really fucking unsettling. It’s MRA energy.
*sigh*
quick question for you bestie: if you don't care much about LOKI, what are you doing on my blog? cos my blog is literally only serving takes in support of LOKI... 24/7. seems like it'd be boring reading for you, chum
aside from that...
stop treating "women" like we (yes, we, that's right, i am one) are too fragile and precious to receive any kind of negative opinions, feedback, thoughts, or criticism. it's belittling and insulting.
if you look at the proportion of male vs female that have received criticisms on my blog, by my count we are at 11 male to 5 female*. so i'm not really seeing your misogyny point being borne out by any actual evidence? but go off, i guess.
let people have opinions on things. let people like things and let people dislike things.
true facts - i wouldn't give a shit about a character called sylvie existing except that she was used to obliterate a character that i love. i didn't give a shit about a woman named sophia being hired to portray that character until she started saying real-world things that i found arrogant or offensive. even so, i've never endorsed or incited actual harm against her because that's sick disgusting behaviour, but i don't have to pretend to LIKE her or APPROVE of everything that comes out of her mouth. i can say that i think she doesn't have the first clue who LOKI is or what his story is actually about. i can say that i wish she leaves the MCU and her character dies permanently. i can say that i wish she would shut up talking about LOKI - and about tom too - and stick to her own character in interviews. i can say that i didn't find her performance convincing or plausible, and that i fully believe she was a very weak link in an otherwise strong and experienced cast; who apparently only got the role through being kate's bestie from a previous project. yes i understand how connections work in an industry. but i also understand overlooking those connections if your buddy just isn't right for the role. and i've seen more experienced and talented directors (keywords) pass their mates over in favour of a better fit for the project. i wish they'd done it this time too (not that it could have saved the show but maybe i wouldn't hate her character so much if she'd been played differently. we will never know.)
anyhow.
if my "stewing rage" lol unsettles you so much - you're totally welcome to stop reading my takes? like, you're coming at me via anon so i literally have no clue who you even are, it's not as if i'd even notice if you block me? and, if you want to keep reading, you're welcome to do that too? whether you agree with me or not. you can even invite arguments with me about some of my opinions, if that blows your hair back. but seriously... the name-calling is a little weak. if you want to insult me, do your research and pick something that can actually stick. /advice

Honestly it’s really funny how marvel set up civil war to be this huge event that would change the mcu forever only for it to……..have almost no impact?? the accords were basically forgotten except for ant-man and the wasp i think. but most heroes were still running around doing their thing with no prior permission from de UN. They also faced no consequences for either breaking the accords or not signing it at all. I mean Peter got to swing around one of the biggest cities in the world while keeping his secret identity even though one of the biggest points of the accords was registration. Hologram Ross barely tried to fight Steve and co. in infinity war although he was like the biggest advocate for the accords. T’Challa had a whole car chase in Asia with Nakia and Okoye. Tony broke the accords in the same movie he tried to force everyone to sign it. and then in every scene he appears on ever since. Marvel was so adamant about doing civil war and for what?? They couldn’t handle a proper discussion about human rights violations or world politics so they just scrapped that and focused on alien and loud colors instead. They just can’t handle things that are more grounded so I don’t know why civil war happened. We could have an actual conclusion to the cap trilogy but outdoing batman x superman even though they weren’t qualified was more important i guess
anon you hit the nail on the fucking head
civil war was dumb and always will be and the fact it was to try and beat out batman vs superman... i will NEVER not laugh. like imagine fucking up your movie like that for no reason? no disrespect to the dceu you do what you want but BvS didn’t even come close to any mcu movie at the time like why was feige so threatened?
i can’t stand rdj’s ass i swear to god can you imagine if the roles were reversed? if they said “okay we’re gonna make iron man 3 but cap and the other avengers are gonna be in it because cevans wants the same amount of screen time in your final movie, okay?” there would have been UPROAR! he would’ve done a terrence howard or some next bullshit. he’s so dramatic for NO reason and really thinks he’s the backbone of the mcu when he isn’t even tall enough to be the backbone of his own trilogy
as for the accords... i forget they exist. it was really stupid that all of team tony got off lightly after the airport battle when they are the ones that caused the most damage. vision paralysed rhodey and he just got off with no repercussions. sam got the blame. peter got blackmailed into being on team tony when all of his morals and ideals would easily put him on team cap. tony straight up tried to kill bucky many many times. everything is a mess and only team cap got faced with the consequences - all they tried to do was stop zemo and stop an influx of more winter soldiers. like? imagine if they hadn’t... ross sure as hell would’ve changed his mind about them then, wouldn’t he?
i’m glad they are a distant memory tbh because the fall out was just a shambles and wasn’t given the correct coverage it should’ve been in order to be a meaningful and purposeful plot. like mentioning it for 2 minutes in every movie is dumb as hell. it’s supposed to have been the biggest major event in the history of the avengers and their politics before thanos but it’s treated like fucking nothing lol. it’s stupid as hell! obviously the introduction of thanos wasn’t meant to be after all these major events calmed down, but they didn’t even do any of their storylines justice before they introduced him which just led to more stupid scenes in infinity war and endgame (see tony shouting at steve about them losing, yet another terrible improvisation from rdj. get your head out of your ass please fucko). serpent society you will be mourned and missed for the rest of time
anyway the only good parts about civil war are steve, bucky, rhodey, scott, sam, t’challa, zemo and the five minutes of aunt may <3 everyone else can gtfo

~~~~~~~~
"I got the part! Holy shit I actually got the part!" Tom throws his computer across the bed in disbelief, almost hitting you.
"Wait, like THE part? Like Spiderman?" you question excitedly.
"YES!!! Check the Marvel Instagram right now!" he crawls over to you as you whip out your phone and quickly search up the account. You scan the page to see a post captioned, "Click the link in our bio to see who the new Spider-Man is!" You quickly find the link and impatiently wait for the page to load. And then you see it, boldface print and giant letters across your phone.
The new Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man will be played by: TOM HOLLAND
"HOLY SHIT TOM! You're fucking Spiderman!" you tackle him with a hug, squeezing him so tightly that he has to fight for breath. "I'm so proud of you, I knew you were gonna do big things." you smile brightly.
"We have to go tell everyone else, come on!" Tom pulls you off of him, dragging you out of his bedroom and down the stairs to give his family the big news.
The rest of the Hollands were already together in the family room, and they immediately took notice of yours and Tom's excitement as the two of you are bounding down the stairs.
Out of breath, Tom sprints to the center of the room. "Attention everyone, I have an extremely important announcement to make!" He pauses for dramatic effect, his family waiting in anticipation. "I'M GONNA BE SPIDERMAN!"
This causes an outburst of cheers and applause from his parents and brothers, each one of them getting up to hug Tom and congratulate him on this huge achievement.
Paddy pipes up, "How did you get the news? Did they call you or something?"
"Um, not exactly. They posted it on their Instagram and on the Marvel website as well, wanna see?" He turns to you, "Y/N, show them your phone!"
You pull out your phone and open the screen you were just looking at, showing the Hollands the Instagram post and article.
"No way, they're totally hacked." Harry remarks, earning disapproving looks from Nikki and Dom. "if you were really gonna be the next Spiderman, they would have called you."
Before Tom has the time to argue back, his phone rings, as if on cue. Tom pulls it out of his back pocket and nervously studies the number across the screen.
"Well, what are you waiting for div, answer it!" Sam chirps impatiently.
The rest of the room is silent while Tom listens intently to the person the other line. You can't make out what they are saying, but the eventual smile on Tom's face completely gives it away.
"Yes, thank you. Thank you so much for this opportunity," he holds while the other person talks again. "Yeah, I'll be in touch, definitely. Thank you again." Tom ends the call and lets out a sigh of relief. "That was fucking Kevin Feige! I got the part! I actually am gonna be the next Spiderman!"
You and the rest of his family cheered even louder than before, enveloping him in a giant group hug.
"I say we celebrate!" Nikki announces. "How about we go out for a nice dinner?"
Tom smiles, "If I'm honest mum, as nice as that would be, I'd rather just stay in and celebrate here tonight. I like your cooking better than any fancy restaurant anyways."
"Of course honey, I'll make your favorite. We can have a nice big family dinner, how does that sound?"
"Sounds perfect mum, thank you."
She dashes into the kitchen followed by Sam, the aspiring chef of the family, while Dom, Harry, and Paddy go to dress the table.
You take this as your cue to leave, seeing as you don't want to disrupt the rest of Tom's night with his family. "I guess I should get going then," you turn to Tom, hugging him once again. "Congratulations again, I'm so proud of you Tommy." you smile as you head to grab your things before you leave.
"Nonsense! You're staying for dinner too!" Tom stops you.
"Tom, I can't, you should spend this night celebrating with your family." you try to reason with him.
"But I want you here too!" he pouts.
"And you are family!" Nikki pipes in from the kitchen, earning nods of agreement from the rest of the family.
"See, everyone wants you here Y/N, please celebrate with us?" Tom cups your face.
"Are you sure? I really don't want to-"
Nikki cuts you off, piping in once again, "Y/N, I insist you stay for dinner with us. You've been a part of this family for so long, and you know that. So please stay and celebrate with us!" she smiles.
You giggle, "Well, I guess I can't say no to that." Tom smiles, giddily engulfing you in another hug.
After a long and delicious dinner, you and Tom now lay under the stars in the treehouse in his backyard. Dom had built it for you two when you were eight years old, and it's been your special place ever since then. Obviously, it has been upgraded and redecorated since then, now that you and Tom were both eighteen, but it still takes you back to the old days when you were just carefree little kids.
You cuddle into Tom's chest, looking up at the night sky through the small window in the roof of the treehouse. "I wish we could stay here forever," you whisper.
"Me too." Tom pulls you closer, kissing your forehead.
"Everything's gonna change you know. We're graduating in two weeks, and then you leave for America. I don't know what I'm gonna do without you." A small tear rolls down your cheek which doesn't go unnoticed by Tom.
He wipes the tear off your face with his thumb, cupping your chin to make you face him. "Hey, hey, look at me. Things might be changing, but that doesn't mean we have to. I'm only gonna be gone for a few months, and then I'll be back. I love you so much, and a few hundred miles is never going to change that. I will never let anything come between us, ever, okay?"
You smile softly, "You promise?"
"I promise darling. It's you and me forever. I'm never letting you go. Never in a million years." he kisses you lovingly, and you swear you could just live in this moment forever with him, and only him.
That was six years ago. And what Tom said was true, everything had changed. You just wish everything else he had said that night was true too.
Now, Tom is a world-famous actor, living a luxurious life out in Hollywood. You, however, have stayed in England, living only thirty minutes away from your childhood home with your newfound best friends Julia and Finn. You are no longer a part of Tom's life, and he is no longer a part of yours. But that doesn't mean you've forgotten about him.
How could you possibly forget about Tom? Your entire childhood was spent with him. From the ages of two to twenty-two, you were inseparable. To this day, you still remember when you first met, and you think about it often.
"I no wanna go! I stay home and watch princesses!" you cry, defiantly pulling away from your mother's firm grip as she tries to stuff you into shoes that are much too small for your rapidly growing feet.
"I know honey, but we have to go welcome the new neighbors who just moved in across the street. We made them brownies, remember?" she smiles.
You scrunch your face up, " No! I stay home!"
Your dad chimes in, kneeling down to your level. "Listen peanut. How about we make a deal. You come with us and say hello to the new neighbors, and then after we get home you can watch any princess movie you want and maybe even have some ice cream, how does that sound?"
You smile, "Ice cream with rainbow sprinkles?"
He rubs your head, "With rainbow sprinkles."
"Okay. I go then."
Your parents smile, and you hold their hands as you walk across the street to meet the neighbors. Your mom rings the doorbell, and the door opens to reveal a red-headed woman, smiling at you and your parents. Hiding behind her is a small, curly-headed brunette boy about the same height as you.
Your mom introduces herself, "Hi! My name is Y/M/N, this is my husband Y/D/N, and this is my daughter Y/N. We live right across the street, and we just wanted to welcome you into the neighborhood." She outstretches her arms, holding the brownies, "I made these for you as well, I hope you like them!"
The woman smiles, "Oh, wow, thank you so much, you are so sweet! Would you like to come in for a bit?"
"Of course, as long as you'll have us."
She ushers the three of you in and you stay close to your mom, still wary of entering a stranger's home.
As she closes the door behind her, she introduces herself as well, "Sorry, the house is a little messy, we’re still getting settled in. But I'm Nikki, my husband Dominic is unpacking in the kitchen, and this is Tom." She motions to the boy behind her, "Tom, say hello to the nice people!"
He timidly steps forward, waving at you and your parents. "Hello." he says quietly.
"Oh my, he is adorable!" your mom gushes. She walks over to him, "How old are you Tom?"
He holds up two fingers, "This many."
She smiles, "Two years old? Wow, you're so big! Guess what, you know who else is that many?" Tom shakes his head no. "My daughter Y/N!" She motions for you to come, and you shyly walk forward.
You wave at him, and that makes him smile. Nikki taps Tom on the shoulder, "Do you maybe want to show Y/N your toys upstairs?
He nods his head, smiling at you, "Wanna go play?" he asks.
You smile back, looking at your mom for permission. She nods her head and pushes you forward. "Okay, we go." you respond. He takes your hand and pulls you upstairs, seemingly coming out of his shell. You don't know what it is about this boy, but he makes you feel warm, like a hug. It's something your two-year-old brain can't quite comprehend, but suddenly you couldn't care less about watching princess movies or eating ice cream.
Sometimes you wish that day had never happened, that you had never met him. You wish your little two-year-old self had fought harder against your parents so that you wouldn’t have to endure the years of pain he would cause you later in life. But you can’t go back, and in part, you’re glad about that. He was your first friend, your first crush, and your first love. But he was also your first heartbreak, and that’s something you can never forget.
You're snapped out of your thoughts by a sharp knock on your bedroom door. "Hey, are you almost ready? We have to leave in ten or we'll be late!" you hear Julia's muffled voice from the other side of the door. Finn is hosting a gala tonight for his art studio, and being his best friends and roommates, you and Julia are basically required to go.
"Uh, yeah, I'm about done, I'll be out in a minute!" You haven't even started getting ready, but you don't have any more time. You quickly raid your closet and find a short v-neck black dress and matching heels. You wiggle into the dress as you make your way into the bathroom. You had planned on straightening your hair, but you have no time, so instead, you brush it back into a sleek low ponytail and spray it with a bit of hairspray. There's no time for the elaborate makeup look you had planned either, so you quickly throw on some concealer, blush, mascara, eyeliner, a bit of highlight, and you're set. As you walk to the door, you grab your purse and slip on your heels, making sure you have your phone and keys. Finn and Julia are already waiting in the car, both with disapproving looks.
"What the fuck took you so long? We were supposed to leave five minutes ago! You know I can't be late for this thing." Finn complains as you slip into the backseat.
"Sorry, I, uhm, don't feel well. A little nauseous." you lie. You don't feel like telling them that you were actually crying about someone you haven't seen or talked to in two and a half years like you do every other night.
"You're not pregnant are you?" Julia chuckles.
"Oh please, we all know that Y/N hasn't gotten any since he who must not be named." Finn replies for you.
"Thanks Finn, what a great friend." you joke sarcastically.
He's not wrong though. Since you and Tom broke up, you haven’t slept with a single person. You’ve been on a few dates and kissed a few guys, but nothing past that. The closest you got was about a month after Tom broke it off with you. You were looking for someone to take your mind off of him, so you found a random guy named David at a pub and took him back to your place. But as soon as he took off his shirt, you saw a birthmark on his back that looked eerily similar to Tom’s, and you promptly broke down crying.
No matter what you do, you just can’t seem to get him off your mind.
"Alright bitches, we're here." Finn sighs. "Help me bring my stuff in, we don't have much time thanks to someone who took ages to get ready."
You give a halfhearted apology as you grab Finn's paintings from the back of his car. Julia stops you before you follow Finn into the venue, "Babe, are you sure you're doing alright?"
You smile lightly, "Yeah, I'm fine. I'll be fine."
"Okay, if you say so. And sorry about Finn mentioning... him. It's been two years, he should know better."
"Oh, no. No, don't worry about that. It's okay. I don't care." you lie.
She gives you an encouraging nudge on the shoulder, "Hey, who knows, maybe you'll find a hottie here tonight and finally get back out there! What do you think, huh?"
"Yeah, that would be great, actually. Maybe Finn can introduce me to his friend James, I know he's pretty hot." you say just to get her off your back. You know for a fact that you won't be going home with anyone tonight, but you want to ease her conscience, so you continue to lie.
"That's the spirit! Good luck hun, love you."
"Thanks Jules, love you too." you smile.
Halfway through the gala, you already want to go home. Finn is over at the bar flirting with some guy, probably trying to get him to buy his artwork. Meanwhile, Julia has disappeared into the bathroom with her boyfriend Ollie, who she invited about thirty minutes into the event because she "got bored."
You look at your phone and realize it's already midnight, and you know the event won't be ending anytime soon. You slowly make your way over to Finn through the sea of people and tap him on the shoulder, drawing his attention away from whatever guy he's flirting with.
"Hey Y/N, how's it going with James?" he asks excitedly.
"Oh, um, it didn't work out, thanks for introducing me though. I just wanted to come tell you that I'm still not feeling well, so I think I'm gonna head home, sorry."
"Oh, okay, no problem. You're probably gonna be alone tonight though, just a heads up. Jules is going back to Ollie's for the night, and" he starts to whisper, "I think I might be going home with this hunk."
You laugh, "Okay, thanks Finn, see you tomorrow then."
"Bye babe. Do you have a ride?" he questions.
"Uh, no, I'm just gonna Uber home, it's no problem."
Finn gasps, "Not this late at night you're not! Let me drive you, hottie with a body over here can wait."
"No, no, don't let me ruin your night. I'll just call Sam then."
His eyes widen, "Like... his brother Sam?"
"Yeah, we're friends still, it's not a big deal. Trust me."
"Okay, fine. But text me when you get home, okay?"
"Okay, love you Finn, see you later." you give him a quick hug and walk outside to call Sam.
You aren't lying, you and Sam are still good friends. Back when you and Tom were together, Sam was the brother that you were closest to, and you felt that it would be unfair to cut ties with the rest of the Hollands just because Tom was a dick to you seeing as they were as much of a family to you as your own parents were, maybe even more. He was attending culinary school in the area anyway, so you decide he’s the best person to call.
As expected, he's happy to drive you home, and about ten minutes later he arrives at the venue where you are still standing outside.
"Hey Sam, I'm sorry for calling this late, but thank you so much for picking me up." you smile as you slide into the passenger seat.
"It's no problem, I wasn't going to sleep anytime soon. How've you been?"
"Fine, I guess. How about you?"
"C'mon, I know that look. Something's up with you." he pries.
"I told you on the phone, I'm just not feeling well." you lie, hoping he doesn't catch on.
"It's Tom isn't it?"
"How the fuck do you always know?"
He chuckles. "He is my brother, remember? And you're basically my sister too. I've known you both for literally my entire life, so trust me, I know when it's about him."
You sign in defeat, "I don't know why I can't get over him Sam. It's been nearly three years since we broke up, and I haven't seen him since. My roommates think I'm overreacting, and honestly, I'm starting to agree with them. I should be moved on by now, but I just can't stop thinking about him."
"Hey, hey, don't listen to them, you aren't overreacting. You and Tom were literally attached at the hip for twenty two years, and you weren't even dating for most of them. It's completely normal for you to feel like this, trust me. And I know it doesn't help much for me to say this because I've said it a million times before, but Tom's a complete dick for what he did to you. He's my brother, and I love him, but he's a dick."
"Thanks Sam. I just wish I knew why, y'know? Why, after twenty-two fucking years, he just completely cut me out of his life." you feel your eyes brimming with tears.
"I wish I could have an answer for you Y/N, I really do. But I haven't got a clue. Hell, I honestly don't even know if Tom knows why he did it."
You sigh, "Well, he must have had a reason. Plus, he seems to be doing great in Hollywood. He seems perfectly happy without me."
"You've been stalking him on Instagram, haven't you?" Sam chuckles.
You laugh, "Shut up." That's the great thing about Sam. He can always lighten up a situation, no matter how serious or how sad. Tom did the same thing, that was one of the things you liked most about him.
You and Sam sit in silence for a few minutes, until he finally breaks it. "He's not, you know."
"Huh?" you question, confused.
"He's not happy. You said he seems happy without you, but he's not. He's doing terribly, and it's not just from stress or his work. He won't admit it, but he misses you." he pauses, "I know I shouldn't be telling you this, but he asked about you the other day. About how you were doing and shit like that. I think he would take it back if he could."
You want so badly to believe him, belief that Tom actually still cares about you after all this time. But false hope is the last thing you need right now.
"Well, he can't, can he?" you say sharply, tears still threatening to flow out.
You and Sam sit in silence for the last five minutes of the ride back to your apartment. As he slows the car to a stop, Sam looks over at you sympathetically, "Look, I'm sorry if what I said made things worse. I just wanted you to know that your feelings aren't... one-sided I guess."
You know better than to yell at Sam, he was just trying to make you feel better, so instead of spitting out the sarcastic remark that was on your tongue, you manage out a half-hearted, "It's okay, thanks Sam." and shut the car door.
As soon as the door of your apartment closes behind you, all of the emotions come crashing down on you. A mixture of sadness, anger, guilt, and regret crushed your heart, smashing it into a million little pieces. It feels like two and a half years ago, when he first broke up with you, all over again. Everything was fine until Sam brought him up again, and the memories just all flooded back in. You fall to the floor, clutching your chest in pain, wishing someone was here for you. Wishing he was here for you. At the moment, it feels like you have no one. In reality, you do; you have an entire support system of people who love you so much and would do anything to protect you. But you only want him. You need him. He is the only person you have ever wanted, ever needed, and he's gone.
You want to hate him, you really do. He's caused you more pain in the past two and a half years than anyone or anything has ever caused you in your entire life. But you can't. You can never, and will never, hate him. Which makes you hate yourself.
After what feels like hours of crying, you finally calm down. There's no one at home to talk to and it's too late to call anyone at this point, so you flip on the tv. There's nothing good on Netflix or Hulu that you haven't seen yet, so you scroll through the other apps. You remember that you just got a free Apple TV subscription with your new phone, so you check to see what's on there.
And there it is. Cherry.
His face right on the screen in front of you, lighting your dark bedroom red. You know it's a bad idea and you know you'll regret it, but something draws you to watch it. You need him right now, and this is about the closest you're going to get.
It's fine at first. It's actually nice to see his face again after so long. He looks basically the same as the last time you saw him, just a little more mature. You feel good supporting him, even if he doesn't know it.
But then it's not fine. His character had just gotten into a fight with his girlfriend, so she comes to visit him in his apartment. They talk, and eventually he reveals that he joined the army and has to go away for two years.
"It's just a couple years. Just a couple years and a lifetime together." he whispers.
Then it all hits you, and you break down crying once again. You can't help but think back to that night in the treehouse, and how the conversation is so eerily similar. You wonder if Tom was thinking about it too, while he was filming the scene. Obviously, the circumstances were different, but it still makes you wonder.
You quickly shut the TV off, unable to bear it anymore. With nothing else to do, you try to sleep, but your thoughts keep you up. And as much as you try to fight it, your mind drifts back to the day you so badly want to forget. The day that it all ended.
"Hey, Tommy, what's up? I'm excited to see you tonight!" you pick up the phone. Tom is supposed to come back to London after filming his first solo Spiderman movie, and you could not be more excited to see him. It's been almost a full year since he left for America, and you miss him so much.
"Yea, uhm, about that. Plans have, er, changed a bit." you can hear the solemn tone in his voice.
"Oh no, what happened? Did your flight get delayed or something? I know there's some rough weather in Atlanta, but I didn't realize it was that bad."
"No, no, it's not that. I don't really know how to say this," he sighs, "I'm not coming home."
Your heart drops to your stomach. "What?"
"Yeah. I'm, um, I'm staying in America for now. I found a house in LA, it's nice."
"Well when are you coming back then?" you utter in disbelief.
"Not anytime soon. I have work, so it's just easier for me to be in America. I'm sorry." his tone is stiff.
"But what about us? I miss you so much, these past few months have already been hell for me. I don't think I can survive much longer without seeing you."
No response.
"Tom, are you still there? You know I can't move in with you. I'm already enrolled in university here in London, I can't drop everything and come to America if that's what you want."
"That's not what I want." At this point he seems to have no emotion in his voice, as if he's reading directly from a script.
"So then what do you want?" you start to really worry, tears already stinging your eyes.
"I think you can probably figure that out by now, Y/N."
"Tom, no. You seriously can't be thinking-"
"Yeah, I am thinking that. You've already said that these past few months have been hell, and I'm too busy with work, so I think that's the only option."
You plead with him, "Tom, please! We can figure this out, I love you so much. We can't break up Tom, I can't lose you." You're sobbing at this point, scared to lose the one person you need the most.
"No, we can't figure this out. We have to break up, there's no other choice."
"What happened to you and me forever? That- that night in the treehouse you said you wouldn't let anything come between us!"
"We were kids, Y/N! We had no idea what our lives were going to turn out like. That was a stupid thing to say and I never should have said it, okay? You can't keep every promise you make, especially when you're eighteen. But we're mature adults now, and the mature way to handle this is to break up. Understand?" His voice is booming through your phone speaker, and it's nothing you've ever heard come from him before. He was always calm, looking for a way to work things out. But now, he's completely giving up.
"Tom, please, I-"
"No, Y/N, I don't have time for this right now, I'm sorry. Goodbye."
He hung up. He's gone.
That was the last time you spoke to him. You didn't even get to properly say goodbye, let alone see his face before he was gone forever.
Unbeknownst to you, that phone call is still, to this day, Tom's biggest regret. Almost immediately after he hung up, he wished he had never called you in the first place. He was stressed from work, he was angry at his management team for making him stay in America, but most of all he missed you. So he did the only thing he could think of to take it all away - separate himself from you. He thought that if he broke up with you, he would feel better about his career choices and he wouldn’t have to wwc:orry about missing you anymore because it would be over.
He was wrong.
Every day since then, he’s wanted to call you, text, you, or somehow contact you to apologize; explain why he did what he did and how he still loves you, still needs you, still misses you every second of his life. But he knows he can’t. You would never be able to forgive him for breaking it all off so suddenly. There’s no way in hell you could still love him after something like that.
So he’s stayed out of reach from you for good. And he hopes that maybe one day he’ll be able to move on, find someone new like you’ve probably done by now. But deep down he knows he never will.
You’re still unable to sleep, and now that it’s almost four in the morning, you decide that you probably won’t be able to for the rest of the night. Not knowing what else’s to do, you begrudgingly roll out of bed and go to the kitchen to make a cup of tea. As you fill up your mug with warm water, you hear a knock at the door.
Who the fuck would be coming to your apartment this early? You suspect it’s Finn, as he always manages to forget his key. Maybe his night with the mystery bar hunk didn’t go as well as he had planned. You quickly set a tea bag in your mug and walk to open the door.
“Back so soon Fi... what the fuck.” your heart drops to your stomach.
It’s him. The same brown-haired, brown-eyed, British boy that you remember, staring down at you from outside your apartment at four in the morning.
“Hey.”
Okay more Hawkeye Spoilers
All the very many spoilers
*
So many spoilers, you don’t know
*
* I appreciate Elenore trying to extricate herself, but should you threaten to blackmail somebody like Fisk?
* THEY’RE PARTNERS. Aww, Clint, you big softie. “Your mess is my mess.” And you’re both a mess and I love that for the both of you.
* “My Maya, she’s turned on us.” D’Onofrio is so good.
* I love Clint trying to cheer up Kate with the prospect of a batch of ‘way too dangerous trick arrows.’ Plus trick arrow making montage. Love. Though how many Pym particles did Scott sneak Clint? Because there’s no way Hank let those walk out the door unsupervised. (can you imagine the fit he’ll throw at the giant arrow in the bridge?)
* Lol Kate labeling all the arrows.
* Hailee is so good. “And I thought, if he could do that, then I didn’t have to be scared.”
* Jack vs Armand VII lol
* The LARPers. lol. Bless. I’m glad they got to be heroes.
* Oh my God, the Kate and Yelena scene in the elevator and then in the fight through the office. “What are we doing? It’s Christmas eve, let’s grab a drink.” Holy Crap, I need a Hawkeye and Black Widow series with them. Please Feige, please Feige, please Feige.
* “Stop making me like you.” “I’m sorry, I can’t help it.” BFFS 4EVAH!
* “It worked, bro. We went to Maroon 5 instead.” lol
* Jack just sword fighting whoever. He’s sleazy but, damn it, I like him. He’s so weirdly charming. “Hello, sweetie.” Yeah, I just really like him.
* “ha ha we’re all gonna die”. Oh Clint Barton, I love you so much.
* “Repeat after me: ‘I am not going to do anything incredibly stupid.’” Said Clint Barton out loud, to the universe, like he’s not Clint Barton.
* how on earth are there so many Tracksuit morons?
* A+ all the trick arrows being trick as hell
* Kate being excited Clint wore his new uniform. Adorable.
* Jesus, was that a flechette arrow? That’s vicious.
* Awww, the two Hawkeyes on the ice rink. That’s just fabulous, everything I ever wanted from this series in one scene. Our cups runneth over, my friends.
* “What happens to them now?” “I don’t know, I’ll have to ask Scott.” lol the tiny screams. though the implications of them now being owl chow is fairly horrifying.
* “Nice shot!” “Yeah, no shit!” lol
* Kazi you dipshit. Kick his ass, Maya.
* Oh Yelena
* Fisk is legit scary. Though, holy shit, mom.
* Kate taking on Fisk is terrifying. Though, I appreciate he’s not really trying to hurt her.
* Fisk’s cufflinks. Man. The cufflinks make the Netflix shows canon. I mean, yes, D’Onofrio and Cox, sure, but it’s the cufflinks that make it really real. *nods*
* “I did it for you.” Cool motive, mom; still murder.
* “Is this what heroes do? Arrest their mothers on Christmas.” What a low blow. Yes, mom, I guess they do.
* Aww, Clint knows the secret whistle. Also, Yelena looks so much like Natasha in that shot (hair and makeup and lighting of course), what a nice touch.
* “(stifled sob)” same, yelena. same.
* “I loved her so much” “Me, too”. Me, three.
* It’s just so great how present Natasha has been in this series.
* Oh no, Maya. Okay did not see that coming. Though, technically, since we didn’t see it on screen, both the TV Loophole of Life and Death and Plot-armor have been activated.
* lol Officer LARPer trying to recruit Jack to her guild.
* “Every once in a while, you come across somebody that just makes you better in every way ... and that Missy, boy, she just outdid herself with this suit.” lol, you’re adorable Clint, ILU SO MUCH.
* HE’S PROUD OF HER
* Yay! He adopts Kate and Lucky.
* Laura Barton is Agent 19, nice. I thought she might be. Yeah, I think that pretty much ousts Agents of SHIELD from the MCU, but, I mean, it makes sense that she’s Mockingbird. Though, I guess we could argue it’s a title passed along. Mostly, at the end of it all, I’m just happy they finally gave her character some character. Yay!
* End credits. Oh Lord. Oh, no, I didn’t need to see the whole number. This hurts me inside my soul. Why did I watch the whole thing?
Oh, that was so good. Thank you, Marvel. I think Hawkeye ticked all the boxes I wanted ticked. Except, it could have been just like maybe a teeny bit longer, little bit filled out in some spots? It’s okay, I won’t complain. Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas to me.
Hawkeye is now my favorite Disney+ MCU series. Though, I waver between Loki or Wandavision being in second place. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is in “I’d rather watch Age of Ultron again than TFATWS” place.
Note
I honestly cannot stand the Loki fandom on tumblr anymore. This is the most toxic, hateful fandom I've encountered in a long, long time. I don't know how you've managed to stay for so long, but I've always enjoyed your content and wish you the best of luck going forward here. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed or outright ashamed of a fandom before, but this series has really brought a whole lot of ugliness out of Loki's. And it's such a shame, because it wasn't always this bad.
Friend, it makes me so sad that you feel this way. I know from negative experience in other fandom spaces what you're going through. It's really painful because we come to fandom with an earnest piece of ourselves that we want to share, project or INject, into characters who resonate with us, for any variety of reasons. This means each of us has a very personal, individual, and sometimes fever-pitched stake in how our "comfort character" is portrayed in canon.
This fandom angst derives from a couple of logical fallacies which I wanna spell out here, and from which, I hope, you can free yourself, in order to remain in a psychological space where you can still enjoy the things you love. <3 No really. I am a 38-year-old, successful professional, I have been around the block with fandom discourse and "grown-up real-world" intellectual discourse, and I am telling you, THIS is how I've "lasted this long":
1) Fallacy One: "Canon is the "most real" version of characterization." No. We don't even have to go into "Death of the Author, baybee" or Reception Theory or any of the other stuff in 20th and 21st century media crit to refute this. Simply put: you experience the media. The media exists in a wholly fictional realm anyway. The only difference is money/resources and breadth of audience. Your experience and, say, Kevin Feige's, or Kate Herron's, are all equally "real." Your Variant of the Sacred Canon (I DO think they're being that meta with the fans in the Loki series, yes), if you will, deserves to exist as much as the one Tom Hiddleston acts out on screen. You have a right to the Loki that exists in your head. 2) Fallacy Two: Seemingly opposite but often entwined with Fallacy One, as a defense/coping mechanism against Fallacy One: "My version is the 'most valid' version, and departure from my version equates lack of authenticity or effort, or, most dangerous of all, moral/ethical inferiority." No. We all have the right to the Loki in our heads. Now this one is trickier, admittedly, because the people who gravitate to characters like Loki tend to share his experience with social Othering/marginalization and trauma. That means that if you tell them "you're wrong, and stop getting in my face and being so aggressive," you could be accused (indeed, perhaps rightfully) of tone-policing someone who identifies with a marginalized group (racially, in terms of ability, in terms of gender identity or sexual orientation, etc). The best thing, therefore, for you to do is acknowledge that your readings of the "text" (here, a tv show) differ, and that you respectfully decline to discuss the matter. Even if it rankles you, don't engage. These people have a very personal stake in the media and in essence, it's kindest to let them depart to be angry in their own space.
3) Connected closely to the above, “What we condone in fiction equates what we condone in reality,” God, no. Much ink has been spilled by more eloquent writers on this, so I won’t expound. But don’t go there. Don’t fall for that. Lol. It leads only to misery.
Habits I would encourage, to avoid Big Fandom Wank:
1) When you see content you don't like, especially spoken in an incendiary or absolutist manner, block or unfollow. Do not engage directly. Vent about it in your own space if you must, or better yet, in private, to trusted friends. If you engage, which...sometimes it IS worth it to do so, if something has real personal significance to you as a consumer of that media, then be braced for people to be rude or even abusive, because human beings, especially in internet spaces, are messy emotional creatures who leap to conclusions without gauging for nuance. There is disagreement over different and valid interpretations of content, and then there is just being unpleasant on principle.
2) See advice in Fallacy Two re avoiding tone-policing.
3) Find your people and curate your dash strictly. This can be ten people or it can be two. Make a close-knit small group in a private space for all your sharing of ideas. Make sure these are people you trust, who, when you spend time consuming the media with them, make you feel better, not worse.
4) Unfollow liberally. Block liberally. You don't owe anyone your time, energy, or, especially, happiness. People will accuse you of cowardice or "running away from a grown-up debate." Let them. It's pitiable, in perspective. They're insecure and sad and they need to say manipulative things. But you know better, don't you? You're just preserving your peace of mind.
5) If you mess up, go quiet for a while, take a break from social media, and it will blow over. I promise. Delete anon hate (and know that you can block the sender, even an anon, on Tumblr, too!).
--------
Friend, thank you for your kind words. I'm so sorry you're so sad. I hope I see you here again someday. <3
Anyone who needs a boost can reblog this advice, btw.
Highlights From The #FalconAndTheWinterSoldier Press Conference
“This is the second one coming out on disney plus, it was the first one that got started. It ended up working out very well, it was meant to prove to everyone that just because a show is on TV it will not be as big as it can be on TV. The first episode really starts off w/ a bang.”
"It was an opportunity to really go deep, we really learn how these characters are." - Kevin Feige
“I approached it like a film, this is a 6 hour film. We did a lot of looking at shows that was in our paradigm. We have a buddy cop relationship really going. I look to other shows that have influences me. I looked at Midnight Cowboy but it will be uniquely signature to Marvel.”
“The buddy cop- genre for the show what we love about them. The show will showcase the range, it can be gritty and funny, in-between. It allows Bucky and Sam to do their thing but it also allows us to touch upon much larger issues.”
"Sam Wilson has always evolved in the Marvel of the comic books and now he will evolve in the cinematic universe. Everyone will see the new and improved Sam Wilson." - Anthony Mackie
10 years with Bucky Barnes has allowed me to grow and evolve with the character and with myself. We hone in on his sense of humor and getting therapy. We will marry the two: mental health and humor. He's now on a quest of identity, reeducating himself about the world he is now in.” - Sebastian Stan
"The great thing about the show is you can't find 2 people further opposite than Bucky and Sam but there is a mutual respect & understanding. We learn and teach each other a great deal. We are friends and that's not a term we use lightly. We allow ourselves to be our best selves."
"It's about the tone, we are trying to make sure this comes across as real & we tackle very real issues. I turn to Anthony for guidance for that" - Sebastian Stan
"The idea of Sam Wilson and the evolution of the Falcon diving into his family, his issues and the complications he faces, we have to introduce these characters to the audience. It's always great to learn more and give more about your character." - Anthony Mackie
"As everyone knows PTSD is not something that goes away. It's something we have to learn with and grow better with and deal with. PTSD will ground these characters and cause them to come together." - Sebastian Stan
"We really did approach the show like we did the movies, if we have a season 2 with #WandaVision they will go back and forth between Disney+ and theatrical." Different characters can show up in any format." - Kevin Feige
“It the pain & the idea of not being able to go on these mission & to not be able to be with his friends, you don't want to see Steve Rogers/Captain America go away. That's why he says the shield feels like someone's else because he was a fan like everyone else. Sam is just a guy.”
“I've been calling the movies the snack & this is the meal. We are able to dive into each character with the TV show. The movies are immersed in a world saving event but on a series you're able 2 get inside the lives of our characters. I love the space of being able to world build.”
“Sam and Bucky's love-hate bromance has not changed, it's gone into a further divide. Steve is missing and they deal with the consequences of that, but they are in a similar place in terms of the questions they're asking." - Sebastian Stan
"I don't look at what people want vs want people need" However there are moments that turn into a new thing...like people expecting a certain engineer in WandaVision" - Kevin Feige
What cameos can we expect? "No more surprises." - Kevin Feige "You can expect many surprises." - Anthony Mackie
“The great thing about what we were able to do with nothing was water-down in the stunts because of that the stunts are amazing. There's more physical and hand-to-hand combat,. We utilize our natural strengths. We did a lot of stunt training and some of the stuff you see is us.”
"We are working on 10+ series and this is what excited us about Disney+" - Kevin Feige
"We started with this story & we had to react to what's happening in the world but we were able to proceed as normal. As the world was changing, we were able to sharpen our focus on the show. It didn't change anything, it helped us focus. I'm so thrilled #WandaVision did so well. “
“Tony Stark dealt with his PTSD. This [show] will ground us in the emotions of our characters. There has been A LOT of trauma for our characters over the years. We think about what if we were these character, mentally there would be horrific elements/consequences.”
Sebastian Stan wants to work with "Knight Moon (lol). I heard that story and it's going to be amazing.” Anthony Mackie wants to "spend some time in Blade world. They were shooting Spider-Man in Harlem on 125th street and I was a HUGE Tobey Maguire fan."
"The characters of Bucky and Sam are essential to the MCU and whatever they go through WILL have an impact on the MCU. It is hard to navigate every fan theory that will pop up but there can be character shifts that have massive implications on the MCU down the line" - Kevin Feige
"We always take our lead from the comics about SHIELD, HYDRA, SWORD. There's always an inherit need for shadowy organizations in the MCU" - Kevin Feige
"The past is prologue, the clues are everywhere in what has lead to this moment, sometimes it's just a name but we do pull from the lineage from the comics and tweek it. Stay tuned over the course of the series." - Kevin Feige
"Endgame was a monumental shift of the universe. The scoop of the film is larger than what anyone could have imaged. Our goal was to not have messed it up. We didn't want to be the first crappy Marvel show. Steve Rogers will be proud our show does not suck." - Anthony Mackie
"Loki better not suck" - Anthony Mackie
"Thank you to everyone for making this the show that doesn't suck" - Kevin Fiege
I really want you guys opinion on Sharon’s heel turn on TFaTWS and where she may go now that apparently there was a big enough backlash and she won’t be the villain of the Captain America 4 movie. What do you guys think?
Personally, I like that they are trying to get her out Peggy’s shadow by giving her a twist, the idea of a morally grey hero who knows that they cannot trust the government blindly especially in the Captain America branch of the MCU is pretty dope, but I hate that they were actually considering turning her into a full-on villain, I get the idea of a bitter and nihilistic Sharon, she worked her entire life for the US government and made a sacrifice in order to help Steve and what she believed (and was ultimately proven) was right, but she was still screwed over and had her life ruined without anyone to help her, not even the man who she sacrificed everything for.
Thing is… they are pushing. A lot.
Sharon wanting to stick to government by undermining them and disrupting world order while she drinks whisky in a swanky penthouse in Madripoor? I’m in. Sharon being ok with human trafficking and experiments on children? Yeah, I don’t buy that.
Sharon worked for the greater good for pretty much her entire life, joining Shield as soon as she could, and all of sudden she drops all her morals and principles when she goes on the run? And she had been on the run for what? Two years? The details are murky at best, no one seems to know if Sharon was indeed snapped or not, because let me tell you, if she was, baby girl is pretty savage, coming all the way from Berlin to Madripoor, overturning whoever was the Power Broker at the time, taking control of the crime underworld, getting the super-soldier serum and forming a militia of superpowered beings in the spam of two years and all of that while being wanted for breaking the Sokovia Accords. And Steve and co. knew nothing of this.
That’s one of the biggest problems I had with the show, a lot of the struggles Sharon goes through (and both Sam and Bucky as well) were caused by Steve leaving to go live a fantasy life in alternate timeline with Peggy – out of character, we know – but because the show goes out of its way to not tarnish Steve’s reputation it rises the question, why on earth would he of all people leave such a mess behind to others to deal with?
But enough about him, back to Sharon. I really hope they turn her into Sam’s new liaison with the real world. One of the coolest things about the show was the revelation of how the Captain America mantle does not work while being commanded (that at the very end you have some old white man asking Sam to do bitch work and he goes willingly we gonna keep at the fanbase) – that became quite clear with John Walker, also during the MCU run we have been shown time and time again how the government doesn’t always have the heroes best interests at their heart. It’s highly likely Sharon will pop-up again in Armor Wars, with Tony Stark now gone his arsenal is ripe for the taking and the suits have expressed many times how they want to get their hands on it, Sharon might be the one to prevent that – will forever hate how the MCU didn’t tackle a possible connection between her and Tony since their families were close.
Now that we know that Sin is the likely the new foe for Cap, we’ll have to wait and see what it’s next for Sharon. Honestly, I’m worried that they will kill her off – they tried to be edgy by making her a villain and failed, Feige might think it’s too much of a hassle and just write her off, it’s not like the MCU has the best track record with their female characters (I’m looking at you Lady Sif). But what about what you guys think, is she going back to the good side and help the heroes? Will Feige and co. just be done with her? Whats your take?
(drop an ask, I kinda have lots of thoughts on this lol)
Phase One: Thor
Since I was looking up my past live-blog of the novel and realising how annoying and repetitive reading through it all is because of my having structured it as a bunch of reblogs, I’ve decided to organize it all into one long-ass post instead. In case anyone else wants to read it in the future. Or in case I decide to re-read it. Because I’m hilarious. 😅
SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO
Tumblr media
My Hilarious Yet Wrathful Overview Of Phase One: Thor, Redux
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
If your son who’s to become king requires a babysitter to not screw it all up and also the idea of him being king is stressful enough to put you into a coma, maybe, uh… reconsider doing that? Just a thought.
But you see here why Odin was so deadset on Thor becoming king, despite him being ill-suited for the role. It’s not about what’s best for Asgard; it’s about personal legacy. Thor is Odin’s mini me, and Loki is very much not. There are places within the text where Odin laments Thor “lacking his father’s wisdom” (he’s definitely inherited your humility, though, Odin!), but he hopes for Thor to grow into a “wise king” like himself. Whereas he holds no such illusions (lol, pun) that Loki will ever take after him.
now with tag commentary! #this scene is in the script and both novelizations #(though in reading this novel seems to just be a more complete version of the junior novel? #idk i'm confused because they're supposedly written by different authors but so far the text is identical) #and it drives me insane each time i read it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Haha, I’m a warmongering piece of shit, isn’t it funny?”
I know, I know. I try to cut Asgard some slack for being such a militaristic culture because social changes happen slowly and when you live for thousands of years per generation, it makes sense that your views on things like war would be regressive. The text says Odin has ruled Asgard for tens of thousands of years (so much for taking Loki’s “give or take 5,000 years” line literally; sure, the Odinsleep would have extended Odin’s lifespan, but by that much? Idk).
Still, fuck Odin. Especially since he’ll eventually try to shame Loki for doing the same thing he’s fucking boasting about here. And on a much smaller scale too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
…is it, though?
I actually think Loki’s relationship with being the centre of attention is really interesting in its complexity and we don’t discuss it enough. I’ve said this before, but he strikes me as the sort of person who craves attention but also wouldn’t really know what to do with it if he had it. He craves it as a result of neglect, because he’s never been shown recognition or validation. This is why he seems to revel in it in Stuttgart, even in (or maybe especially in?) his brainwashed state. But he also frequently comes across as pretty introverted and has horrible self-esteem, so I think on another level, sustained, genuine attention would make him feel kind of uncomfortable. Loki seems to believe that in order to be loved or respected, he has to literally be Thor, though. And Thor has always been the centre of attention, so for Loki, attention is synonymous with respect.
I find Loki’s relationship with wanting attention especially fascinating because I too both crave and fear it. As a borderline, I need it. When no one is paying attention to me, I lose my sense of identity. I feel as though I literally cease to exist. It’s excruciatingly painful. And yet, I have no authentic sense of self; I’m just a chameleon, and the closer people get to me, the more likely it is they’ll see behind my mask. They’ll realise it’s all a show and that I’m actually no one. And then they’ll leave. I can’t help wondering if that’s how Loki feels sometimes too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wait, what? You mean goat. His horns are shaped like a goat’s. This is a ram:
Tumblr media
This is a goat:
Tumblr media
This is Loki:
Tumblr media
Do you see now? They’re like a goat. Not a ram. Not a cow. A GOAT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This book was written before Ragnarok was a thing, so it may be unfair to connect the two, but it still seems worth noting that it was Thor who reduced Loki to being no more than a trickster to begin with. “You could be more,” my ass. Loki’s problem has never been that he was one-dimensional; it was always that the people in his life, including Thor, refused to see any other dimensions to him. Which makes those words particularly cruel—as if they aren’t cruel enough already, what with the physical torture and all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Always happy to have cause to point out that
Loki was on Thor clean-up duty their whole lives; he certainly was not trying to kill Thor.
People like to point to Loki’s attempted genocide of the Jötnar and attempted(-ish? lol) conquest of Earth as proof that he’s some kind of violent maniac. But in a little place I like to call reality, Loki was historically far less aggressive and bloodthirsty than his peers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Question: why is one conqueror evil and the other is righteously entitled to ruling over the Nine Realms?
Asgardian exceptionalism FTW
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can’t even begin to imagine what would lead you to expect such a thing, Odin. 😂
Tumblr media
Uh, ‘cause it is?? And also their planet is MELTING without it??
This is all only within the first two chapters, btw. Lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
“Looking for answers,” my foot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
YOU WOULD THINK SO, WOULDN’T YOU??
#i mean unless you knew heimdall #he only commits treason on days that end in y
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
What’d I say? Thor clean-up dutyyyyy
Tumblr media
Just wanna remind everyone that this
Tumblr media
is why he’s smiling during this scene
Tumblr media
because it makes me laugh every time. 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
My heart breaks every time I remember that second excerpt because literally ALL OF IT happened to him when he survived falling through the wormhole. My poor boy. 😭
But also of note… Loki gets cold (and also does not like being cold). This interests me because 1) as many are aware, the prevalent headcanon that Loki has a low body temperature irritates me and 2) it possibly(?) lends weight to the theory that he may not be fully Jötun, whether by virtue of his birth or Odin’s spell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Haha, look at this Feminist Icon™ trying to take credit for his female friend’s accomplishments! Truly inspiring.
#for some reason the ragnarok lovers have somehow decided that thor is both a feminist and lesbian icon #whatever that means 🤷‍♀️ #and i'm still trying very hard to figure out why #is it literally just because he *says* he respects women or whatever in that dumb rambly conversation with valkyrie?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ooh… you were so close to getting the point, Volstagg. So close. Take your tongue off Odin’s boot for just a couple minutes longer.
Also, the author just forgot the name of the Casket. How did this book get published? 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
JUST LOOKING FOR ANSWERS, HUH?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because fuck Loki, amirite? He, uh… he’s a prince too, you know.
Also… Fandral, you dweeb 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
…am I reading too much into this, or did Odin just literally forget that Loki exists?
On the other hand, the author also seemed to forget Loki existed for most of this chapter, so who knows. 🤷‍♀️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
lmao @ Jane immediately trying to convince herself she’s too rational to be attracted to a stranger
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, though, big mood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just your periodic reminder that Thor’s sycophantic friends KNEW Loki was right and decided to throw him under the bus anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just as I’ve always said: That was it. That was their ENTIRE rationale. That Loki *could* have done it, therefore he must have. Please tell me these people have nothing to do with Asgard’s justice system.
…lol, jk, Asgard has no justice system.
Tumblr media
Ok, first of all, no.
Second: thank you, Fandral. You’re a self-absorbed cad, but also evidently Thor’s least stupid friend.
Thirdly, how…? First, it was, “Loki arranged all this because he’s jealous of Thor.” Now they’ve suddenly jumped all the way to, “All of Asgard is in danger.” What exactly does Sif think Loki is planning? He’s gonna, what… assassinate Odin and then sell Asgard to the Jötnar?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Please stop hurting me.
Tumblr media
Just so there’s no confusion: this one sentence explains everything Loki did for the rest of the movie. It explains how a person who has been historically non-aggressive suddenly transforms into a warmonger. To prove himself a real Asgardian, like his brother and father and grandfather.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
…why did Odin fall into the Odinsleep in two completely different scenes in this book? I’m super confused.
Also, we really need to talk about how cruel it is of Marvel to keep forcing Loki to prove his loyalty again and again and again when he’s been doing so almost literally since we met him. And by “we need to talk about it”, I mean I need to tie Kevin Feige and co. to a chair and spend a minimum of five hours lecturing them on how poorly they understand their own fucking character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s just be clear here: they’re talking about Loki. They’re saying Loki, their LEGITIMATE king, is an enemy of Asgard, based on evidence so paper-thin it’s practically invisible. Just… please, let that sink in. Take a moment to appreciate how utterly fucked up that is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sorry (not really), but Thor was so much funnier before Ragnarok.
Tumblr media
This scene has always kind of bugged me. If Odin removed Thor’s powers, how come he can still control the weather? Confusing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what exactly was Thor’s plan anyway, before he realised he couldn’t lift Mjölnir? He was just gonna call on Heimdall to help him commit treason AGAIN, show up on Asgard against the expressed command of his king, and… Odin would just shrug and be like, “You got me, son! I guess I can’t keep you down. Welcome home!”?
…I mean, I guess that more or less is what happened in the end, but it’s hard to imagine it would have still gone down that way without all the stuff that happened with Loki. Idk.
#look what i'm saying is... thor is not exactly a thinking person #no one on asgard is a thinking person #except loki but he's crazy now so he's also thinking somewhat poorly lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cool, Thor. Now imagine feeling that way for ONE THOUSAND YEARS and develop a little fucking empathy for your brother.
But you won’t.
You’ll brush off his feelings of worthlessness as “imagined slights”. 😒
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nice that somebody knows how the royal line of succession works, I guess…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That sound you hear? Yeah, that’s just my heart breaking. NBD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First, they mislabelled it the Casket of Eternal Winters. Now it’s the Cask of Ancient Winters. Author must have been thirsty when they wrote this. Lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look, not to nitpick, but this is not the recommended procedure when you see a storm that you don’t believe is of supernatural origin coming. I’m just saying. Lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Uh… ‘cause he is?? And your pals are committing treason AGAIN, Thor, so it technically is responding to a threat to Asgard. Just FYI.
Anyways, this is an important point that doesn’t get made often enough. People want to act like Loki illegally usurped the throne somehow, but even without the deleted scene that explicitly shows Frigga passing rulership to him (a scene which is, for some reason, entirely skipped over in this book, but whatever), understand this: Loki could not have controlled the Destroyer unless he was legitimately King of Asgard. The fact that he’s able to do so is irrefutable proof that his rulership is valid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
lmao you little shit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So… here’s my issue with this scene (and with Thor as a character): He always assumes that Loki’s acting out specifically to hurt him. That Loki’s entire life and thought process revolves around Thor. He does it in this scene, he does it in The Avengers… it’s just a chronic thing with Thor. Everything is viewed through the lens of Loki inexplicably hating him.
But that’s… just not accurate. Yes, Loki harbours a lot of jealousy towards Thor. But that’s not what’s happening in this scene. Loki is not trying to kill Thor here because he wants him dead; he’s doing it because Thor (and his friends) are getting in the way of Loki completing his ultimate goal. Loki tried to solve this problem non-violently, by lying about Odin being dead. It’s Thor’s friends who all but forced his hand by going behind his back and trying to bring Thor back to Asgard against Loki’s (and Odin’s!) direct orders.
For all the humility he’s learned in the past few days, this entire speech is still really all about Thor. About assuming that Loki’s doing this for personal reasons, because he holds a grudge against Thor for some unknown reason. This is implicit in his request to “take [my life] and end this.” It never even occurs to him that his friends are traitors to the Crown and Loki, as King of Asgard, is perhaps justified in pursuing them.
It also needs to be acknowledged that Thor’s apology here is hollow, even if it’s ultimately coming from his heart, because he has no idea what he’s apologising for. “Whatever I have done to wrong you” is not an apology. An apology addresses specific hurtful actions taken and commits to not repeating those mistakes in the future. Thor cannot commit to not repeating the hurtful things he’s done, because he doesn’t know what he’s done. Despite his best intentions, what Thor is doing here is actually kind of manipulative. He’s not addressing any substantive issue between the two of them; he’s just trying to talk Loki down. And it ultimately fails not because Loki doesn’t care or because he wants Thor dead, but because it doesn’t actually change anything.
Finally and only semi-relatedly, we should maybe at some point talk about the fact that Loki, who is stated to be a master tactician, has displayed a weird pattern of hardly ever being as lethal as he could be. He freezes Heimdall in place instead of killing him outright; he backhands Thor with the Destroyer instead of incinerating him; he, well… *gestures vaguely at almost the entirety of the first Avengers movie* Anytime the violence is even a little bit personal, he seems to hedge. Odd behaviour for somebody who’s supposedly super evil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sorry, I know I’ve pointed it out at least a hundred times before, but I just can’t encounter this scene in any form without taking a moment to appreciate how underrated and hilarious it is.
I also genuinely wonder how many Ragnarok stans who have accused me of having no sense of humour, have failed to laugh at moments like this one. Kinda feel like if you need to have the comedy spoonfed to you in the form of ass jokes, maybe you’re the one whose sense of humour is lacking. 🤷‍♀️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s be super clear: this is not what happened. Loki did not betray Odin; he was betrayed by Odin. He did not open Asgard to its enemies; he attempted, misguidedly, to destroy Asgard’s enemies. And he most certainly did not commit suicide out of a sense of guilt.
I’m not saying Loki did nothing wrong, nor am I saying he feels no regret for the lives he has taken. What I’m saying is there’s no indication that he believes he betrayed Odin or Asgard in the process. Which makes perfect sense, because he didn’t. Everything he tried to do was for Odin and Asgard. It was misguided and horrible, yes, but it can hardly be classified as a betrayal.
The insurmountable burden on Loki is not that he did terrible things, but that no matter what he does or how hard he tries, Odin will never look at him with anything but contempt. Consider once more these passages from the very beginning of the book, at Thor’s coronation:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Consider that this book goes to great pains to point out that Odin favours Thor because Thor is a warrior like him. And yet even when Loki embraces that, even when he acts more war-like than ever before, Odin rejects him— just as he always has.
There is a reason why this moment is the last time Loki will ever call Odin his father. Because he realises once and for all that, no, nothing he tries will ever be good enough; no, Odin won’t ever look at him with pride. That is Loki’s burden. That is why he lets go.
Tumblr media
The epilogue is really just two pages of making me want to vomit.
Tumblr media
There’s your party where Thor and a certain subset of the fandom insist that Loki was mourned. There’s barely an indication here that anyone even perceives his demise as a negative thing.
“[Sif] could see Frigga thought [Loki was dead] as well” also contradicts the tie-in comic for TDW, so I don’t know what the author is on about there. Unlike the majority of Marvel comics, the tie-in comics are canon to the MCU, so it’s a bizarre statement to make.
Tumblr media
COULD YOU SMEAR THE DEAD* ABUSE VICTIM A LITTLE HARDER, PLEASE? Fucking hell.
Tumblr media
No matter how many times I encounter this scene, in whatever format, I still fail to become desensitized to how disgusting it is. I realise there’s a good chance that whatever version of events Thor has been told was twisted at best; but how you can look at a man whose son has just committed suicide under any circumstances and say there will never be a better father than that guy, is utterly beyond my capacity to understand.
And Odin’s “you’ve already made me proud” line just feels like extra salt in the wound because, again, Loki let go because he realized Odin would never say those words to him. And yet they come so damn easily when it’s Thor.
Fuck this entire family so much. I think I hate them more than Loki does. Sometimes I wonder what he would think about that. How he would react to knowing that not only is he actually loved, but that he’s so loved that people are genuinely furious at the way he’s been mistreated. That there are people who regularly devolve into full-on rants because they just can’t contain how much anger they have towards the people who hurt him. I think he’d have a hard time wrapping his head around that concept, tbh.
Anyways, to end on a not-completely-depressing note, I’m still waiting for someone at Marvel to explain how Loki knew what Thor said in this scene after plummeting into a wormhole. ‘Cause he references this conversation as Fauxdin at the end of TDW. So like… ?? Did he steal Odin’s memories before he erased them? Because that would be… kind of neat, actually. And very clever. Not entirely ethical, of course, but it’s Odin, so fuck ethics.
WELP, THAT’S IT. Thanks for following along with my dumbassery, hope you enjoyed yourselves. Lol
eternals review! ⚠️ warning: spoilers ahead ⚠️
okay so here is my official unofficial review on the eternals movie !!
overall, i genuinely enjoyed this movie. it definitely makes it up there next to shang-chi as one of my all time favourite marvel movies of 2021 as well as even maybe my favourite marvel movies period.
i loved the characters. i think every actor really did such a great job in fleshing out their characters to make them interesting, more then one dimensional people that exist, and they were enjoyable to watch on screen. i love the weird slightly dysfunctional family vibe they’ve got going on there, and whilst i could honestly say they were all my faves, i think it’s a toss up between either kingo, phastos or gilgamesh. i want just an entire 2 hour movie about those three on adventures together pls.
i thought visually it was amazing. it definitely pays off to shoot more on location rather than just on a bluescreen like marvel has a terrible ugly habit of doing 99% of the time so i REALLY hope kevin feige watched this movie and realised how much more depth a beautiful backdrop for your scenes can give you. it really added to the gravity of certain situations that make it feel that more real.
the story i enjoyed. i feel like it was a bit jumpy on the flashbacks at certain times. in my opinion i’d have had all the ikaris/sersi scenes at the beginning: build up their relationship, give them some depth as to how they fell in love, get to the swell of it all when they’re getting married and then— hard cut to present day where sersi is off to her job. i just feel like it would be flowed a little better and made us sympathise with sersi a little better to understand how jarring his leaving was.
would love to have seen more gilgamesh. i was genuinely saddened to see him die so early on. i know the stakes where high and it was kind of a real moment that reminded us: hero’s can die too. but i LOVED the interactions between him and thena and i just wished we got more. their relationship was beautiful throughout.
loved the little running joke about how they were friends in college. that was really cute, idk why but that just made me smile every time they’d say it.
just. everything about phastos and ben. all those scenes at phastos’ home was so damn wholesome. it felt so domestic and loving and i just want more of them. the kiss !!! THE KISS !! so tender and sweet, i may have shed a tear or two lol
so now that i’ve rambled about what i loved about the movie…….
there’s honestly not a whole lot that i would have changed. the cast was great. the acting was good.
i think they could have fleshed sprite out a little. maybe it was just me but i just didn’t see the whole ‘sprite is in love with ikaris’ thing. they only did a little glimpse of sprite wanting to be an adult in one of the first scenes we see her in when she’s in the bar with sersi and dane. i think they definitely could have followed that a little more which would have made more sense to her wanting to age and be a human, to do human things instead of being stuck in a child’s body. i just don’t see how she was in love with ikaris. the only evidence is her following his plan but that was after kingo explained that she was in love with him.
harry styles. ooooh boy. look, i do love harry (hello big time directioner back in the day here - he was plastered over my walls when i was 13) but. hmmm. obviously we had the spoilers to prepare us but i really didn’t want it to be true. i’m willing to be fair and give him a chance but idk for some reason it really pulled my immersion from the movie, just because i knew it was harry styles. does that make sense? like i know they’re all actors but my brain was just like: HARRY STYLES instead of ‘oh cool thanos had a brother’ i think i just very much like the idea of marvel always getting ‘unknowns’ but as of late them bringing in big names kinda bursts that happy little bubble i’ve secluded myself in. part of me is willing to give him a chance where another part of me is like: i really hope he’s just a side character there for a gag. sorry harry ilu but it makes me all squirmy to see him on screen.
also… i complimented the movie on their amazing visuals and honestly the cgi was solid throughout…. until we got to pip. it felt like his character design was extremely rushed (which makes me wonder if adding harry was a super last minute decision) and it blows my mind to know that marvel, a film studio that uses cgi for everything, can make something look like it was ripped right out of a ps2 cutscene lmfao. i’m hoping that that really isn’t his final design and it was indeed rushed just to get out for the films release because yikes it make me recoil when i saw him.
i could have done with more Makkari also. loved her. maybe more backstory as to why she was hanging back reading all those books? why didn’t she stick with druig? just more of her please and thank you.
like i said, overall, i loved this movie. i had a lot of fun watching it and i think everyone on board brought something that really pulled it together to make it something a lot of fun. i’m really looking forward to seeing more of these characters and i am excited to see where they go to next!
these are just my own personal opinions, so if you feel indifferent to what i’ve written, that’s perfectly fine! let me know what you thought :)
I know this might be an absolutely shocking take for those folks who seem to be against Sebastian continuing to be in the MCU (& who seem to think he’s being forced to play Bucky by some unknown force (CAA? MCU? Some rando cryptid monster under his bed?)), but have you ever considered that maybe he actually enjoys making films with them, and maybe he actually enjoys playing Bucky? Plus, I’m sure the money allows him to do smaller, indie films that might not pay as much or small films that he might like to invest in as a producer.
It’s not one or the other, he can do both the MCU *and* other films. He doesn’t have limit, except the one that he sets for himself. It’s not our place to say what he can/cannot do or what he should/should not do. He is an adult and able to say ‘no’ to things-no matter what this weird fandom has created for their wacked out group fanfiction regarding his life- CAA does not actually control his life. Don’t like it, don’t watch. It’s really that simple.
Plus comic book Bucky in the Thunderbolts is awesome. It’s one of my favorite comicbook storylines for him.
Anon 2: "The only thing the MCU does for him is he makes money from them!" That's not true. Not going to name names, but there are several former and Marvel leads who have gotten parts much more off their Marvel stardom than off of their acting abilities. We got a small taste of speaking Bucky in FATWS, and if we get more in TB, his popularity will grow even more, and so when he's up against actors with franchises, it will be more likely to come down to acting ability.
Anon 3: lol do you really think he's going to be co-leader just because mcu said he will? Congratulations on your constant hope at marvel. Miss Flo will be the sole leader of this thing! // If she were the sole leader, Seb would have been announced right after Wyatt. Instead, he was singled out from the rest of the cast that was present and announced after Flo. I think that was a very specific choice from Feige, but, well, whatever helps you sleep at night.
Anon 4: He's doing it by contract lol // Nah. The 9-picture contract expired. Seb is doing Thunderbolts because he wants to. My guess is that, as with most Seb projects, this cast is what sold him. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Florence Pugh, David Harbour and Wyatt Russell are all people I could see Seb wanting to work with.
Anon 5: Whatever it is the MCU does for him, it must be good enough that he keeps saying yes. Maybe he gets enough money that he can continue taking roles in smaller films he believes in. Maybe he enjoys working with these people. Maybe it's fun. Maybe he likes inhabiting Bucky and wants to keep doing it. Whatever the reason, it gets him in front of a lot of eyeballs, and that's not a bad thing. If we're talking name recognition from the general public, the only two roles he's done that the majority of the public are going to recognize are the Winter Soldier and Tommy Lee.
