It’s a sad day when you finally have to admit your dissolution with a fandom you have poured countless years of your life into.

JC will always be my ship of choice, but where it once was a unified group of human beings, it is now splintered into multiple factions… most of which are built on negativity. The sheer amount of judgment, hate, and downright meanness among us now is overwhelming.

I speak for no one other than me, but my experience alone is bad enough. I’ve had my family attacked, been bullied, taunted and used as a scape goat. Have had to go to the police, delete social media accounts, and on and on and on. And yes all by other members of the JC fandom.

Why? All for the bad behavior of others. We’re all supposed to be adults, so why not just own your mistakes? I’m certainly not anywhere close to perfect, but I’ll always tell you when I’m wrong.

Now, there is a rogue group of hashtag thieves, purporting to solve the problems of the fandom by further splitting the already savagely damaged group. Pitting writers against writers, feigning to be about unity when in reality, purposefully shunning a calculated list of people.

All I want is what we used to have. A dedicated group of people all equally squee over what is easily one of the most under served ships ever to come across a tv screen. I want the group back that pushed me to overcome my fear of ever writing my first sentence. The group that accepted and nurtured the high level nerd I hid for decades of my life.

At this point I count myself lucky to have the small yet incredible group that still has my back, but sadly we are all feeling the strain. Some have already walked away, but our friendship keeps us in contact. I’m never one to give up, but I’m on the edge of my max.

Why don’t we just calm down and remember we’re dealing with fictional characters here. None of this is real, but some have taken it to a place… an evil place, and it’s not worth all that. Let’s get back to the fun of it.

Pssst! Nicht verraten: Apple kann “Streetview”, aber in aktuell und überall

Datenschutz-ExtremistInnen haben uns beschert, dass Google Streetview in Deutschland erstens nur rudimentär zu nutzen ist, zweitens nicht aktualisiert wird und drittens an vielen verfügbaren Orten auch noch verpixelt ist, weil sie die Leute verrückt gemacht haben, dass sonstwas passieren könnte, nur weil irgendwann einmal ihre Häuser fotografiert wurden. Danke für nix insoweit. Sogar in Polizeikreisen war “rechtlich unklar, ob mit Google Streetview virtuelle Streifenfahrten möglich seien”, so Rainer Wendt seinerzeit, zu dem ich mir jeden weiteren Kommentar verkneife.  

Nun hat Apple in den letzten Wochen seinen Dienst “look around” freigeschaltet. Auf meinem alten Macbook läuft es nicht, weil ich das Betriebssystem nicht aktualisiere, weil dann wiederum Lightroom 6 nicht mehr funktioniert, was ich mal für teuer Geld gekauft habe und jetzt keine Lust habe, mich in die Adobe-Abofalle zu begeben, aber das ist eine andere Geschichte. 

Immerhin kann ich “look around” auf iPhone und iPad nutzen. Das reicht mir, wobei ich dazusagen muss, dass ich das überwiegend beruflich als Unfallanalytiker brauche, um mir einen Eindruck vom Straßenverlauf im Bereich von Unfallstellen anschauen zu können. Zwischenzeitlich habe ich mich mit mapillary beholfen. Dort findet man von Nutzenden hochgeladene Aufnahmen aus Dashcams und so, vielfach anscheinend von Fahrradfahrenden.

Apple “look around” funktioniert im Gegensatz zu Google Streetview nicht nur in ein paar Metropolen, sondern so gut wie flächendeckend. Wer es auf seinem Apple-Gerät verwenden will, ruft die “Karten”-App auf und tippt dann auf das kleine Fernglas. Da ich mich beruflich allerdings hauptsächlich in der Windows-Welt bewege, hätte ich gern darüber Zugriff auf die “look around”-Bilder. Bislang hab ich aber keine Möglichkeit gefunden. Nur Apples Luftbilder kann man über die Karten in “duckduckgo” aufrufen. Vielleicht kommen die “look around”-Bilder ja irgendwann dazu. Das wäre super!
