Amidst the rain seeping it's path down the glass panels, the heaven clan's haze shielding your view from the mundane maneuver of the blurred out world, your glistening beads have found their long craved spot onto the tall, broad shouldered man standing by the signal, hair and shirt completely soaked up from the pouring skies, while his eyes were desperately searching for a way back - was it to his brick stoned house or his lost home?

I am a violinist; have been playing for 25 years this year (I AM GETTING OLD, JEEPERS CREEPERS). Music is a great, passionate love affair for me and I adore learning about songs and pieces new and old. tagged by @landoisokay and @bsaka7 to do my 9 favorite albums (with commentary. i had a lot to say...)

these are all relatively recent because i pick and choose older songs individually more than i listen to them as a single album. like i could pick at least an album’s worth of queen songs, but they’re not all off the same album, ya feel.

in no particular order!! w some explainers below the cut:

dreamland (2020) - glass animals. i almost put how to be a human being but i’ve been listening to that album basically on repeat for the last three weeks so i needed to switch it up. such an experience of an album honestly?? where how to be a human being makes me feel like the main character in an over-saturated murderous movie set in miami, dreamland is like, over-saturated fast car movie set in tokyo (the like. hollywood idea of tokyo, to be clear). forever intertwined with midnight walks through empty cities during covid, driving too fast, the first time i hung out with people after getting to come back to college, neon lights on cinderblock walls and $12 plastic handles of liquor. fundamentally bittersweet as an album imo? but so full of bangers that you forget that it’s . really sad. tokyo drifting with denzel curry was my top song of 2020 and spotify helpfully informed me that i listened to it 30 times on my 19th birthday. lol. the “get loose, streetfighter” with the street fighter sound effect… oh yeah baby that’s art. it’s all so incredibly loud also a song of all time tbh. whole album is floaty and sharp all at once, insane production, the perfect sadness layered underneath, every song building into this brilliant crescendo… perfect album for 2020 eve for like so many reasons, i could wax on about this for AGES so if u want more drop an ask no joke it’ll make my week. still holds up soooo well

lemonade (2016) - beyonce. LOL. this album dropped right around when i was getting cheated on by my gf of. over a year. and then we broke up and i signed the papers to transfer schools the next day without telling anyone. so this album fr got me through uprooting my entire life to start over. (what timing, to get cheated on right as beyonce drops her got-cheated-on album). i knew beyonce belonged on here (too influential musically to me to Not) but i was stumped on what specific album to include (i had 4 on cd in my car in high school, for example, and homecoming: the live album felt like cheating) until i remembered how much play time this one got, and how much i leaned on the album and the visuals then (which. by the way. i bought on itunes bc it wasn’t available for streaming. used precious data bc school wifi wouldn’t let me download it. possibly the last album i bought on itunes??)

save rock and roll (2013) - fall out boy. oh man. 2015 me was on one bc i was a HUGE mcr/fob/atl/p!atd/green day girl but at the Exact same time. a 1d girlie. my shuffle would literally go from mama to up all night. ANYWAYS. was stuck between american beauty/american psycho and save rock and roll, but i think american beauty/american psycho didn’t hold my attention for long and only recently came back on my radar (has some very toxic inspiration won’t lie). the mighty fall ft big sean? life changing. big fan of rappers being dropped into songs that you aren’t expecting them to feature on. “i’m either fuckin or workin so the grind don’t stop” is a work of art. young volcanoes and save rock and roll were legitimately like. the most comforting songs of all time as a sad and lonely 14 year old

when we were friends (2019) - the backseat lovers. starts out so strong and keeps it going. what an album to listen to while absurdly into someone who then starts dating your roommate lol. just like, beautiful stuff. makes me yearn. crazy good to belt out in the car while driving

cleopatra (2016) - the lumineers. feels like home, and being dumb young and in love to me. i’ve been listening to them since ho hey played on our local membership supported radio station when i was . 11?? finally got to see them two summers ago and bawled my eyes out the entire time. this whole album no skips but also like. so overwhelmingly nostalgic and infused with feelings with nowhere to go that i can’t help but want to cry. i learned how to play ophelia on a piano in a basement of a dorm i’ll never see the inside of again lol. patience makes me insane and it’s literally just piano. the lumineers in general make a lot of music that makes me ache for times and places i can’t return to, but this album is pretty peak for it

lungs (deluxe edition) (2009) - florence + the machine. god florence just does not miss does she. dog days are over another local member supported radio station hit. i started listing all the perfect songs off and then had to stop because i was listing the entire track list. floaty and romantic with a heavy edge of morbidity and violence. remember when i said i love when rappers on songs you aren’t expecting? if you listen to anything from this post PLEASE listen to you’ve got the dirtee love ft dizzee rascal from this album. a long ass album that’s good the whole way through, i’ll truly never tire of it

ctrl (2017) - sza. i think SOS might be better and eventually take this slot but i’m trying not to let recency impact this too much. drew barrymore went quintuple platinum in my bedroom in high school. it really was the perfect album for insecure 16 year old me? speaks of growth that listening to this album doesn’t hit me where i live half as much as it used to, that instead of being like damn so real sza to things like . “im sorry im so clingy i dont mean to be a lot... lonely enough to let you treat me like this” im like. damn good song

mt joy (2018) - mt joy. another album that reminds me of home; my whole family listened to this for months on end during covid. i’m your wreck is such an opener… “and whatever happens please remember all the laughter” like i’ll cry. my instagram bio is from this song lol. the bit where it shifts into what my family calls shoulder lean mode… anyways. ASTROVAN!!! A SONG ABOUT JESUS SMOKING WEED but like. also an emotional tale of assuring mom how music’ll work out even if they’re broke the whole time. whole album gives me Feelings. this might be the happiest album on this list and it’s. not really that happy. just a very specific kind of like. optimism. we move forward even when we look back. the world fails us but we build it better. idk. like the last song is a break up song, but it’s whole thing is “so if you worry, don’t worry bout me, i always wanted you to see the california coast-line on your own time.” so like yeah, love is burning out, but don’t worry about me. i told u. Feelings.

Welcome to the first event!

Now until July 31st!

If you were considering doing something, but were too busy, etc, before or if this is your first time hearing of it, good news: You have a whole other month! (Until the day before the next full moon.)

This will take place between the dates of the next two full moons: June 3rd and July 3rd. (Edit: Now until July 31st!)

June’s is the Strawberry Moon, also called the Rose Moon and the Hot Moon.

July’s is the Buck Moon, also called the Hay Moon, Thunder Moon, Herb/Wyrt Moon, and Claiming Moon.

Depending on the region both are also known as the Mead Moon, hence the name and theme of the event. (The Mead Moon can also refer to the full moon closest to the summer solstice, which is in June most of the time, but is in July this year.)

The summer solstice is June 21st, Midsummer Eve is June 23rd, and Midsummer Day is June 24th.

There are 3 ways to participate: fic, art or playlists involving 3 or more of the 21 prompts:

Rules and requirements:

New or unpublished works are accepted for this event. Feel free to combine with other ongoing or upcoming events.

For Writers:

3,000 words minimum using 3 or more of the 21 prompts.

This can be one work or multiple works of at least 1,000 words each. No maximum for word count or amount of works.

For Artists:

Use 3 or more of the prompts to create visuals (drawings, gifsets, manips, vids/edits, moodboards, etc.) Can be one work or multiple.

For Mixers:

There are 2 options for standalone fanmixes:

Use 3-7 prompts to make a playlist of 21 tracks. At least 3 tracks per prompt used. (For example: A playlist with 4 prompts — 5 songs for Rose, 7 songs for Full Moon, 3 songs for Thunder, and 6 songs for Altered Reality.) Arrange them however you like: all grouped together in segments, whatever flows best, randomly, etc.

Make a playlist of 21 songs with 1 song for every prompt in any order.

If you’re attaching a playlist to a fanfic or art post:

Do whatever you want, but you get extra cool points for 21 tracks and including 1 or more songs for every prompt that you use and/or 3 songs for at least one prompt.

Put your playlists on Spotify, YouTube or both so I can listen to them. 😉

Content:

This is an event for fans of Sterek, but it’s Sterek & Stuff for a reason. I’m a multishipper and some of you might be too, so the deal is if you pay the Sterek Toll you can do other Teen Wolf ships (or pre-ships and gen) in separate works in your series should you desire.

The Sterek Toll is:

At least 2 prompts and 1,000 words of Sterek for writers.

At least 2 prompts and 1 piece of art for artists.

Music is generally up to interpretation so unless you go out of your way to say it’s not for Sterek don’t worry about it, lol. But if mixers want a toll too then it’s 2-7 prompts and a 14 track playlist.

All Sterek all the time is of course always welcome and there will be a Sterek Only subcollection on AO3 and separate Sterek and NonSterek posts on Tumblr. (Assuming anyone does NonSterek, lol.)

To count as a Sterek fanfic Stiles and Derek have to be together by the end of the work. The story should focus on them, but feel free to include other characters too.

Sterek Plus and Sterek Poly go in the other ships category and is subject to the Sterek Toll.

Allowed:

Any background ship.

Crossovers as long as the focus is on Sterek (or other TW characters if you’ve paid the Sterek Toll.)

Angst, whump, and dark themes as long as the story (the last related work if it's part of a series) ends on an upbeat or hopeful note and there’s nothing from the Nope section.

Nope:

No permanent death of Stiles or Derek. If you’re doing a series in the same setting they both have to be alive and together (or have the possibility of being together in the future) in the last related work. This applies to other TW works too. (No permanently killing off whoever is in any other main ship either.)

No miserable, tragic endings. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect and happily ever after, but the last related work should at least have a hopeful or “we’ll make the best of this shit” ending for Stiles and Derek (or other main ship.)

No explicit descriptions or depictions of sexual activity under 16. (Kissing, dating, references or vague descriptions are okay.)

No bestiality. (As in regular animals. Xeno /Tera with beta or full shifted Derek, Stiles, etc, is okay.)

No scat.

No death or gore fetishes. (As in rotting corpses and gaping wounds and stuff. Bloodplay is okay.)

No Real Person Fiction.

2023 Spotify Wrapped - Friendship Bracelets

Note: I started drinking wine towards the end of this one, might edit later. <3

Appearances: the bracelets appear in three shots of the video.

Relative Position: between to the Devil & Angel on her shoulder and the Burning House in the palm of her hand

Location: They are worn on her right wrist/arm.

Number of bracelets: 8

Shaped beads on the bracelets: stars, hearts

Appearances - The bracelets first appear partially obscured in the establishing shot of the burning house, only Cruel Summer is obvious at this point in the video. They're partially visible for a second time in the shot of the 'snow' globe at which point August is legible, they're only fully revealed in the final scene. Their obfuscation is not merely due to cropping her arm moves extending further out of the mountain for the reveal which suggests intentional framing and timing. This links Cruel Summer to the burning house and August to the 'snow' globe.

Relative Position and Location - They are positioned between the Devil & Angel, and the Burning House. The bracelets are worn on her right arm while her left arm and hand are hidden within the mountain. TS signs autographs right handed but she plays guitar with her left.

Why is the left hand hidden? It's a common saying that "the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing," in business this refers to problems coming up because different departments of a company are oblivious to one another's actions and functions. However, the saying originates from Christian scripture "one should not let the left hand know what the right hand is doing" which means that when you perform charitable acts you shouldn't publicize them: you should do good for the sake of itself not for the sake of appearances. Also in Christian scripture, Jesus is said to sit at the right hand of God, and the implied meaning is one of equality with God and being set above all else. [5]

So perhaps it's that she values her relationships and love above everything else, that she has things to hide, and/or that she is internally conflicted.

To be somebodies right hand man is to be an assistant/helper who you trust completely and rely upon, whereas to be somebodies left-hand man is to be "A man who is being seen on the side by a woman who has another man who is her boyfriend" [4] TS once played a cover of Riptide by Vance Joy on BBC Radio 1 which has the chorus lyric "Lady, running down to the riptide taken away to the dark side I wanna be your left-hand man, I love you…" [8] [9] she smiles an awful lot while she's singing that one. :D

Does the position of each individual tableau within the overall composition point to relationships between the elements?

Notably the adjacent burning house is not the original lover house, it's the newer one with the larger central rooms yet it is engulfed in orange/red flames. In the Eras Tour visuals the original house with its narrow closets burns down at the end of the Lover set in orange flames, while the new house burns during Bad Blood with blue flames. So, why the swap?

In John Milton's fan-fiction of the Bible, Paradise Lost, the "red right hand" is the vengeful hand of God. Red Right Hand is also the title of a song by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds in the words of the songs co-writer Mick Harvey, it describes "a shadowy, alluring, and manipulative figure, stalking the land and striking a combination of fear and awe everywhere he goes … seemingly part deity, part demon" [6] [7] Given the adjacent Devil/Angel this seems relevant.

If she was having an affair with a woman who was married that would present a lot of internal conflict and tie all these symbols together very neatly. Remember the line in Ivy "He's going to burn this house to the ground" maybe she and the person referenced in Cruel Summer were having an affair and got caught?

Number of bracelets - She's wearing eight friendship bracelets but only four of them include letter beads, so the number of additional bracelets added is a choice. What might eight represent?

TS is a musician and there are eight notes in an octave, it could be something that simple but this is TS. 8 is a rotated infinity symbol and Taylor wore an Infinity bracelet throughout The Long Pond Studio Sessions.

Folklore is her eighth studio album and there were eight versions of Folklore released. The eighth song of her eighth album is August which is also the eighth month of the year. There was an eight minute long standing ovation for Champagne Problems during the Eras tour, it stopped at that time because she stopped it. [1] Y'all I think she really likes the number eight...

In terms of mathematics and etymology eight can be considered the first composite number consisting of the duality of two fours. [2] In numerology eight is associated with; renewal, money, power, the creation and destruction of empires, balance, and of course infinity. [3]

In astrology the eighth sign of the Zodiac is Scorpio and eight is numerically associated with the planet Saturn, in the song Seven, also on Folklore, "Your braid like a pattern, Love you to the moon and to Saturn, Passed down like folk songs, The love lasts so long." August is a song about "a moment in time" but eight is infinity.

Songs - The beads on the bracelets spell out: Cruel Summer, AntiHero, Karma, and August and the letter beads are pink, purple, and blue the bi-pride flag colours. This is reminiscent of the Instagram photo of the bi-pride bracelet back in the Lover promo era. I love this repeated motif because it encourages the belief that "none of it was accidental." The other beads that make up the bracelet include all the colours of the rainbow. It's giving "Gay Pride makes me, me."

The other shape beads on the bracelets are stars and hearts, which admittedly are common bead shapes bought in kits but they also support astrological and romantic interpretations of the bracelets.

Cruel Summer & August are often discussed as sapphic songs, AntiHero and Karma less so.

Although, if AntiHero includes a theme of feeling guilty over closeting herself for so long (instead of being the hero from The Archer) then it might finally explain the whole it's not Purple glitter it's Blue thing which would be nice.

The music video for Karma has scenes of TS as justice balancing the scales, as a demon/the devil removing a mask, of an infinity symbol in the form of an hour glass filled with lavender glitter, of TS and Ice Spice lassoing the Moon & Saturn, and TS as a mountain. Karma is the key that ties the rest together.

Karma also includes TS skipping down the yellow brick road in Oz in ruby slippers but she's not wearing a Dorothy costume - perhaps because she's a Friend of Dorothy? [10]

If you could wear out an album on Spotify like you could, say, and old cassette or a vinyl, I would have worn out Taylor Swift's Midnights about 3 months ago. This woman even suckered me into buying the Target exclusive CD (CD!!!!!!) so I could have a copy of the exclusive track "Hits Different" which is super good and super not about a man, btw.

But I'm not here today to tell you about how much queer-coded language is woven through her music and her the visuals of her music videos or the staging of her current sold out record-breaking tour -- I'm here to tell you about Lavender Haze.

Lavender Haze (the song -- according to Ms Swift) is about the dream-like quality of being in a quiet and safe space with your lover while the world is chaos around you. It's a beautiful song. And her boyfriend in the video just so happened to be an extremely hot trans dude, making it the first overt queer relationship she's depicted that includes herself in her own music videos. It is also seemingly vaguely about the wacky tabaccy as Ned Flanders would say.

Who will qualify from ESC SF1 in 2023?

Eurovision is on! Rehearsals are on! We’ve seen most of them performing at the multiple preparties and the first clips (even super shots ones) are in!

It’s time to predict who will qualify on May 9th from Semifinal 1! These are my predictions based on the reactions, comments, listens and clicks in social media, Youtube and Spotify.

Some I will get right, others I may not - that’s the risk you will take by continuing reading this.

1. Norway - Alessandra - Queen of Kings

She’s IN. No question. HUUUUUUGE viral hit by now. There was some concern about Alessandra’s vocals (MGP used autotune) when performing live but she’s on point based on the first rehearsal clip. Visually they’re loyal to National Final one but her outfit is a bit different, she’s wearing a crown look a like hair band and there’s more light now on the stage.

2. Malta - The Busker - Dance (our own party)

This is worst spot in semifinals to perform as second in Eurovision. Lots of good entries have failed because 15 other amazing songs will follow and people tend to forget. However, Malta’s lively and colourful performance does stand a chance. The song stands out with its saxophone sound. If this did go through would I be sad, definitely not but being where it is, second and between two dark songs (Norway, Serbia) I say this is OUT.

3. Serbia - Luke Black - Samo mi se spava (Само ми се спава)

One of my faves this year but I know a lot of people who’re not warming up to this Hatari II. However, their staging looks improved and Luke’s performing very confident. This kind of dark pop is exciting for many! In Eurovision it doesn’t matter how many haters you have but how many lovers, based on the interest in Spotify / Youtube I’d say this might appeal enough voters to be IN.

4. Latvia - Sudden lights - Aijā

Indieband with a strong chorus. In the national selection the staging didn’t impress me but this is one of my faves again. Lamps are there though but there’s a good energy in here which I hope will come across to the audience. This is still boarderline, this can go to either direction. But I have faith so IN.

5. Portugal - Mimicat - Ai coração

Portugal has been topping their game in preparties and even though you wouldn’t like this kind cabaree music - this is very authentic, catchy, memorable. And she can sing and perform - true pro! The stage looks a bit empty without the couch but I do have faith in Portuguese staging skills because they have nailed it during the few previous years. I still say IN.

6. Ireland - Wild Youth - We are one

Why the producers put this at 6th? If this had been an opener for this semi Wild Youth could have had a chance. However, they’re going all the way with the staging, using every inch of that stage: we have golden body, pyros, stairs - we know the guy can sing but the song is a bit generetic and forgettable. This breaks my heart but OUT.

7. Croatia - Let 3 - Mama ŠČ!

A big fan favourite. Huge interest before going in to Eurovision, they also did well in the preparties. We saw some aspects from the pics and Tik Tok clip that we saw before (same LED screen, cannons). Not my personal favourite but a lot of people love this kind of quirky performance so IN.

8. Switzerland - Remo Forrer - Watergun

One of my personal faves this year but again - a lot of people don’t agree with me though. The anti-war song was actually written two years ago which I kind of hope would push some buttons among the voters. However, Switzerland was one of those unfortunate countries last year who went to Final with Jury votes only and received 0 points from audience. This time around Semifinals have only audience voting so I’m afraid there might be payback and especially since it’s another Swiss ballad.

Staging like this can be strong but the clip didn’t convince me yet. Pretty dark and they have similar strings attached to the dancers as Finland had in UMK (why are you coping??). I love this but I say OUT.

9. Israel - Noa Kirel - Unicorn

She’s IN. This is not my favourites to be honest, just because it’s so messy genre like. Israel was a bit of mystery to everyone because they didn’t participate to any preparties and they kept all their plans as a secret. But she sounds amazing and the Tik Tok clip and the photos promise us a spectacle. The seem to have a running unicorn in the LED screen, she’s in this bright box, upside down and in the end she’s making Chanel style break dance. This will please many for sure and high chances of becoming a top5 in the final.

10. Moldova - Pasha Parfeni - Soarele și luna

This is one of the most ethnic entries this year and Pasha Parfeni is no stranger to Eurovision as he represented Moldova also back in 2012. The song is memorable, it does stand out and the live performance even just from the pictures doesn’t disappoint. Moldova is a master of creating memorable performances even with a smaller budget and there’s no way that this didn’t go through. So IN.

11. Sweden - Loreen - Tattoo

Do I need to say this? IN. The LED sandwich so called what they used in Sweden was a lot bigger(16 m² ) but I don’t think the current size (6,25 m² ) will cause actual problems because the camera work will make it look larger. This is copy paste from Melodiefestivalen so pretty epic. A lot of people do complain however that Loreen is not bringing anything new to ESC as this does remind her victorious song Euphoria from decade ago. However, potential winning song for sure!

12. Azerbaijan - TuralTuranX - Tell Me More

One of the indie entries we have this year. I quite like it but... this is not a crowd pleaser unfortunately and in Eurovision you kind of have to be. This is such a good feel song but no. Stating isn’t doing much either, they’re standing on the platform of spaped by the heart playing their quitars. Unless there is something major happening what wasn’t revealed in the Tik Tok clips. I’m sorry, OUT.

13. Czechia - Vesna - My Sister's Crown

There’s so much love for this entry but at the same time there’s talk that this might be the shock non-qualifier. They didn’t perform as well and confidently as people were expecting them to during the preparties. However, in their live rehearsals we see them wearing rose coloured outfits, they have long braids - there’s a message of we’re not your dolls combined with some doll movements so very strong female empowerment thing going on. This can get too messy but hard to say from the Tik Tok clip itself. I still belive this would be IN.

14. Netherlands - Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper - Burning Daylight

Another sleepy ballad. I don’t hate it. And to be honest this has the strongest ballad staging I’ve seen so far. Mia and Dion are standing on this moving platform and walking towards, around, from each other. This can be a moment, beautiful one. Their voices go nicely together. BUT this comes after a strong Czechia and before Finland. I don’t see this year being very kind to the ballads, people are clearly having more reactions (clicks, listens etc) towards the quirky songs of ESC 2023. I say OUT.

15. Finland - Käärijä - Cha Cha Cha

A big fan favourite when going in for the rehearsals. Many didn’t expect Käärijä’s team to change the stating at all actually because it was pretty damn good already at the UMK. However, they have upgraded it. They have this big wooden box on the stage, according to photos and the Tik Tok clip he’s in it at some point and also the dancers where they emerge at one point. The silhouette is awesome! Great add and super powerful! There’s pyro at the end also, colours of the rainbow - the human snake has movement. This is so good! If Finland doesn’t win the ESC alltogether I do belive this will make the televotes to explode at the semi for sure! IN!
