You're not in a relationship with Floyd Leech.

Contrary to what everyone tells you, there's nothing romantic between the two of you. Sure, you've stayed overnight occasionally and he's cooked breakfast for you. Sure, he's clingy and hungry for your attention, lending you his shirts when it's convenient. Sure, his hackles raise whenever someone says something about you. But that doesn't mean you're involved in anything more. You made that clear: "This is just sex and nothing else." And he'd agreed.

But now it's gotten out of hand.

You walk into the lounge just in time to see Azul holding a vicious, snarling Floyd back while Jade attends to the poor soul splayed on the ground, his face bloody and bruised. Floyd struggles to squirm out of Azul's arms, scowling with so much vitriol it seems almost tangible.

"Don't even think you've got an in just cuz Shrimpy likes ya. I'll kill you the next time you—"

"Floyd!" you and Azul shout in unison. Your mind is reeling, heart catching in your throat. An unsettling aura falls over the lounge; students cower in place, not daring to make a move.

He blinks out of the murderous haze for a second, his gaze slowly panning over to you. Every trace of hatred vanishes in a blip, and he brightens with a wide, toothy smile. The switch is so instantaneous that it startles you.

"Oh, it's Shrimpy! Hiya!"

Azul releases Floyd with a sigh and he skips merrily over to you. Blood speckles his face, and his uniform is more rumpled than it normally is. He reaches for you with a bruised hand and you flinch away. Hurt flashes across his face. You've never flinched away from him before...

You look past him at the student, who you now recognize as your long-time crush, and glance warily at Floyd. He couldn't have known. Surely not, right? You've never mentioned your crush to him. So then what happened? How did he find out?

Jade and Azul help him to his feet. He's just barely clinging to consciousness. You're grateful he's alive, if only barely, and you surmise Azul feels the same. A murder at the lounge wouldn't be good for his business.

"F-Floyd, what did you do?" you mutter, stupefied.

He's never been this openly violent. At least, not without valid reason...

"Ain't it obvious? I'm tellin' that guy to back off."

"But... But we're not—"

"He was sayin' some stupid shit about how he planned to confess to ya. Silly, right? Cuz you're with me. 'We're not exclusive in any way.' As if I'd just agree to that. C'mon, Shrimpy, didja really think I'd be fine with that when I want you all to myself?"

You stare at him, horrified.

Floyd covers the distance to wrap you up in a friendly hug. It's a stark contrast to his previous temperament. "Anyways, sorry you gotta see me so banged up. Woulda cleaned up if I'd known you'd be coming."

Stiffly, you pat him on the back. "Ah, is... Is that right?"

This is your mess, Azul seems to imply when you lock eyes with him across the lounge. Clean it up.

Puh, that’s a hard one. I’m such a happy endings girl. My instinct was one of my iwtv fics, but they’re more angry than angsty lol, so I’m saying it’s between Of all untruths the truest is you (iwtv) and Do no harm (ds9)

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Your most frail gesture ends with a wedding, though actually I like the accepted proposal in Petal by Petal more.

Do you get hate on fics?

None so far (knock on wood).

Do you write smut?

No. A lot of my fics make it clear sex is happing but I don’t write it and I haven’t really any urge to.

Craziest crossover

My TayNick character crossover New Information. Also my only crossover so far, but that’s a side note.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of. Hopefully having all my stuff archivelocked will keep it that way.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

YES! Someone did a translation of Do no harm into Russian. Only one of the coolest things that ever happened to me (though I would have preferred to be asked beforehand rather than simply be presented with a link).

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I’m not entirely sure how that would work, but I’d be open to it.

All time favourite ship?

Why do people insist you have to have one favourite over everything else? No, I’m an adult, I can have as many OTPs as I want.

What’s a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Beneath Lucifer’s claws. I love this story so much, but I have it in me to finish it. I also have an old ATLA fic I love to bits, that has really neat bits but I was such a different person when I wrote it, it would need a complete rewrite and half of my favourite scenes don’t really work anymore.

What are your writing strengths?

I’ve been told my pacing is good. And I think I’m quite good at characters voices right when it comes to fanfic.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Punctuation. And I definitely suffer from ‘why use a period when I can use a comma’ disease XD. Scene transitions always feel clumsy to me, I don’t know if they read like it.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

Oh, there’s an essay. If I were to give general advice I’d say, avoid it. It’s fun to read when you speak the language and annoying if you don’t, having to look up stuff all the time interrupts the reading flow. It’s even more annoying when you speak the language and the author clearly didn’t.

I’ve seen it done well once, where it was used so the characters couldexchange information because that was the natural thing to do for them, while keeping it a secret from the reader. That was neat. 'But even that could be done by just saying 'he said something in [language]'.

First fandom you wrote in?

Published or not? My first published fic was Jack’s Desk for mfmm. But I also still have fifteen year old supernatural and vampire diaries fics in a notebook somewhere. The world wasn’t ready yet.

Favourite fic you’ve written?

Something unstoppable and Somewhere I have never travelled. Neither of them came out the way I thought they would but I love how they ended up so much.

Hullo, Friends! I did a sort of introductory post a while ago, but I thought I'd go ahead and make an intro/masterlist post to follow up. I might also update this later to include more of my posts than just these few main if it seems to be wanted.

I'm Meraki, or Mer for short. She/Her in her mid-twenties. I write whump, and don't worry, no AI is used here! 5.) pick a theme song for the tv adaptation.

okay so I'm gonna answer this for Meraki since theyre my babies. it's space song by beach house. I can't be fucking normal about that song ever and honestly in any TV adaptation of ANY of my stories that song would probably be somewhere

maybe also I'd Rather Sleep by Kero Kero Bonito. since. y'know. Meraki is about a literal dream world. maybe space song is the end credits and I'd rather sleep is the theme? idk.

6.) speaking of tv adaptations, why would yours get cancelled? (other than capitalism)

they actually all live in a fully functional communist society (it was an accident but like I was looking through worldbuilding and realized that they don't have a government they all just vibe around) and not a single one of them is cishet. like they don't really do "gender" unless they feel like it and I feel like that would upset some people. like it's "oversaturated with gayness" or something. idk what else people would cancel for, maybe annoyed about how some kind of disability is portrayed or smth. or angry that there aren't really any disabled characters? since I don't currently have any planned besides like. you look and you're like "oh that character is NOT neurotypical."

8.) what inspired your world building, if anything?

uhhhh I think an inspiration for Meraki in particular was Wings of Fire and Pokemon? like when I VERY first started working on it the only media I'd only been exposed to those two things so I didn't really have anything else to go off of. but it's really more of it's own thing, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it.

9.) if your story got a video game adaptation/spin off, what would it be like? if your project is already a video game, do this for a novelization.

Omori vibes ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. like typical lighthearted fantasy rpg that turns into Omori that turns into Yumi Nikki I'm talking the WEIRDEST gameplay you've ever had. you start out with a defined set of quests and lots of goofy carefree characters and you witness the coolest character payoffs ever and the gameplay gradually getting more and more muddled and end floating in a shapeless void with no idea what you just experienced but you are going to be mentally ill for it.

and then, at the very end, you will cry. you will cry. the game, like the story, ends on a light note and a return to at least mostly-normal gameplay, but... it's changed. the colors are more muted, but you're just so thankful they're there at all. the character dialogue is a bit more tired than before, but you're just glad there's characters to interact with. yeah.

you don’t know why you auditioned to be in the school musical. you had no idea what you were thinking as you clearly had no experience in acting or singing like all the other talented drama kids around school. yet, for some reason you found yourself writing your name on the sign up sheet and filling out an application.

you didn’t expect much at all going through the audition process, noting you were one of those few individuals who would never be noticed regardless of how hard they tried to be.

however, when you saw your name printed in bold under the list of kids who had gotten a callback, you were surprised to say the least and even more so since it was a callback for the lead role.

there was no way it could be possible, they must have made a mistake because you weren’t like the rest of them, you were just you, someone who honestly didn’t know what they were doing, especially when it came to theatre.

but your name didn’t disappear from the list, no matter how many times you blinked your eyes and shook your head, it was visibly printed there in twenty-four point font. you supposed you made a sufficient impact to at least be considered to be casted in the musical, something which was an accomplishment within itself.

your astonishment would further become an ever present emotion since a few days after the callbacks, the cast list had finally been posted.

you were tense when you had finally managed to push through the crowd of students to view who was lucky enough to get a role out of the hundreds who had auditioned.

your name was the first one you laid your eyes on under the character’s name who so happened to be one of the two lead roles in the musical.

you couldn’t believe it. you got in.

your eyes were wide as you stared at your name in shock and the exclamations of congrats from your surrounding peers were drowned out by your feelings in that moment, feelings of utter happiness and relief. sometimes it took trusting in yourself and taking that leap which reaped the best results.

if only there wasn’t a tiny problem that no one would have ever assumed一your stage fright.

you didn’t have horrible anxiety and panic presenting per say, but you had a moderate degree to where you would shake, your hands would become clammy, and you stuttered through your speech...aspects that did seem grim in hindset.

albeit, your stage fright wasn’t the worst of your worries, being in the back of your mind until you truly had to perform in front of others, in front of an audience of hundreds of people.

everything would be okay for you had the power to overcome your fear and going to rehearsals after rehearsals for months on end you knew you had become better.

you were no longer scared saying your lines in front of the cast and crew. you no longer stumbled over your words or shook in your spot. you were cool and collected, two characteristics you never were before.

maybe it was because of your own self or because of the people that you had grown closer to over the last few months. you had all become a family, supporting each other and aiding each other when needed.

everyone assisted in many regards, but watching your costar deliver his lines under the stark, white stage lights in the auditorium with his skin glistening, you thought one of them helped more than others.

mark lee was his name and you were sure that while you both were romantic interests of the characters you played, the affection your character had for his intermixed with your own liking.

you wouldn’t admit you had a crush on mark lee, no, not at all, but seeing him standing there in all his glory and with the fine grin he gave you nearly everyday, you knew you were lying to yourself.

mark lee amazed you and left you in awe every single time with his artistry so it was hard not to catch fondness.

those very emotions would be ones you were thankful for when opening night rolled around since the stage fright you so assuredly assumed had departed, never really had.

you had made the mistake of secretly peering through the red curtains that shielded you from the eyes of the audience before the show, your once still heart beating briskly in your chest at the hundreds of people occupying the seats in the auditorium.

the nerves were back and they wouldn’t go away.

you rapidly let go of the curtain and took a step back, trying to focus on your breathing.

but to no avail一you weren’t calm.

it was a minute till showtime, a minute gone too fast when the lights dimmed to blackness and enclosed you in its embrace.

the overture started immediately, but it too went by too quickly for the lights came back on and the curtains opened to begin the show.

mark stepped out onto the stage, his persona exuding confidence and reassurance in himself. a small smile was painted across his face and while he was reciting his very first lines, he had suddenly turned his body ever so slightly to face the left corner of the stage, where you conveniently were encompassed in the dark, hidden from sight.

in the midst of his dialogue he had the chance to lock his eyes with yours and give you a subtle wink, his smile widening when he saw your mouth fall agape.

he undoubtedly meant to target you, only you, with his actions and the warmth that coursed your veins was a feeling you could get used to because count on mark freaking lee to get rid of your stage fright all in one go. courtesy of his gorgeous smile and cheeky wink that was enough to turn fear into love.

Invisibility or time/space jumping.

I would choose the Renaissance Era because of the explosion of creativity that occurred.

Maybe parts of it. I would find more creative outlets and grow as a musician and I would appreciate the effort my parents put into making sure I could learn guitar.

Would you rather fight 100 chicken-sized horses or one horse-sized chicken? Um, I think I would rather fight 100 chicken-sized horses, because a big chicken could poke my eyes out.

If you were a trope in a teen high school movie, what would you have been?

I would be a side character that had a strangely specific backstory that the movie doesn’t get into but it is clearly implied. I would probably be there to be the total cynic and judge everyone.

Do you believe in aliens/supernatural creatures? Of course! How could there just be us? Anything is possible in my mind.

Fun fact about yourself that not everyone would know?

I have owned an assorted collection of musical instruments. Currently I have three guitars. I used to have a keyboard, clarinet, and steel drum (of course a recorder since I feel like most people had one from elementary school.)

When did you post your first piece?

End of December back in 2018.

Do you write fluff/angst/crack/general/smut, combo, etc? Why?

I write a combo of lots of different genres (fluff/angst/humor). For shorter works it’s usually only fluff or angst, but I find it hard to confine a work to one genre. If there are multiple genres it adds layers to a story and I like to try to make stories as dimensional as possible.

Do you write OCs, X Readers, Ships...etc?

Currently only member x reader.

Why did you decide to write for Tumblr?

I loved writing and I didn’t really have a “thing” to write about so fanfiction would combine writing and the groups/people I loved. I was on Quotev for a while and I figured there would be a wider audience on Tumblr.

What inspires you to write?

I’m inspired by everyday things that happen to me, friends, or family. Movies and music also come in handy. I actually have two works that I’m working on based off of movies.

What genres/AUs do you enjoy writing the most?

I like writing angst the most and I swear I’m addicted to best friends and high school au’s probably because I can relate the most to it.

What do you hope your readers take away from your work?

I hope they can feel something. I hope they can see the underlying themes of joy and heartache that some of my works have. As long as they feel like they got something out of the work then that is enough for me.

What do you do when you hit a rough spot creatively?

I take a break to clear my brain and just get away from it. I play guitar or read a book. If it lasts for more than a few days I just let it sit and come back to it when I feel like I have some good material to add to it, or if it’s just that one work I try to work on another one.

What is your favorite work and why? Your most successful?

I like either “goodbye” or “too fast too slow” they’re both Mark works. I like “goodbye” since it was a concept of telling a story backwards and it was fun for me to write. I liked “too fast too slow” because I feel like I got the mutual feeling of love and caring between the characters right. My most successful is “catch me if i fall” another Mark work with the Spider-Man concept. The people love goofy Spider-Man!Mark.

Who is your favorite person to write about?

I like writing for all of them equally. Some come easier than others, but I enjoy writing for all of them since they all have different personalities I can try to portray.

Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose?

I think there are very minor differences because I know some writers write members exactly as they portray their personalities in public. So for fanfiction I guess you already have a personality to build off of while for originals you have to make your own personality from scratch. I personally like changing up the personalities, but I do have that blueprint if I wanted it. When I write original pieces the point of view is usually different and not in second person. Otherwise it’s still writing and building a story.

What do you think makes a good story?

I think it really depends on what the writer wants to get across to the reader. Whether it’s the emotional rollercoaster they wrote, character development throughout the work, the pacing to keep the reader interested, or even just the dialogue or descriptions keeping the reader engaged. Good is subjective and if the writer can get the right message or the message they wanted across to the reader I think that’s a “good” story.

What is your writing process like?

Spontaneous and sporadic. I can come up with ten ideas all at once and just let them sit there for ages. When I get into writing I do write in scene order. I don’t write down an outline, I just usually have one mapped out in my head beforehand. I do bare minimum proofreading, oops, but other than that very simple steps.

Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story?

I have thought about it. I’m not sure though. I wouldn’t know which one to build upon.

What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand?

I like most tropes if you hand me a work and it has some random trope I would probably read it. I’m not a fan of yandere, but other than that I would read any.

How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you?

I used to think it didn’t mean much, but when a couple of my works flopped (oof) I felt bad and missed the little tags in reblogs or at least a like or two. I saw a post about writers writing for them, but writers post it for others to enjoy reading it as much as they did writing it. I stand by that. I will always love writing, but I want to hear what others think of it and that’s why I post them.If someone just comments or reblogs and puts something in the tags saying that they loved it, that’s enough for me. I’m a minimalist that way.

What has been one of the biggest factors of your success (of any size)?

Just hearing people say they liked it or general encouragement from my mutuals. I love talking to other writers and getting to know them.

Do you think fanfic writers get unfairly judged?

Yes! Just because it’s about someone who is 2D in comic books or in real life like actors or singers doesn’t mean it’s any less of a piece of written work.

Do you think art can be a medium for change?

Of course. Art, let it be music, paintings, dance, writings, so on and so forth, can open a person’s eyes to all the possibilities of the world. The way someone perceives a work of art can be different from another and I think that causes great discussions. Art will always expose people to new ways of thinking and new ways to see the world.

Do you ever feel there are times when you’re writing for others, rather than yourself?

I used to. I’ve started a series, got through two chapters and then put it on hold and then discontinued it. While it was in limbo I felt bad because I knew people really liked it so I wanted to write it. Now, that same series is sitting discontinued until I can find motivation and feel like I’m writing it for me. So currently no, not anymore.

Do you ever feel like people have misunderstood you or your writing at times?

Well, maybe. I’m not sure. My works aren’t really that cryptic. Maybe with emotions that characters are feeling because I’m not very good at descriptions. Otherwise, I don’t think so.

Do your offline friends/loved ones know you write for Tumblr?

Oh no. I would rather die than them find out. They know I write, just not for Tumblr.

What is one thing you wish you could tell your followers?

Thank you for putting up with my sporadic updates and random works. I’m very inconsistent so thank you for sticking around and having enough faith in my writing to follow me.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers who might be too scared to put themselves out there?

Just start writing whatever! It doesn’t have to be the next Charles Dickinson novel, as long as you like it then that’s enough! You may think it sounds corny or awkward at first but as you write more you’ll find a style and become comfortable. There are so many writers and most of them are always willing to help if you just ask!

Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr?

So far no. I’ve met some pretty great people and I haven’t come across any problems yet.

Do you have any mutuals who have been particularly formative/supportive in your Tumblr journey?

Well there’s @jaemericano, Gigi, who was my first mutual and has stuck around for such a long time. @neowrld who gives killer reviews of my works. Now I’ve met @jensungf, Leyna, the best person in the world to talk to. She reached out when I was struggling with tumblr tags and then the conversation picked up from there about everything and anything. @ohnoyoonoh, Cayla, for starting our own personal foreign swaggers and being so nice to me when you first reached out, and always being so understanding about everything. @neocitybynight, sunny, who I can yell about Meteor Garden about with and I love it when she bounces ideas off of me and then we discuss our favorite types of noodles. Then to the rest of my mutuals who I have met on servers and nets.
