✨ MJF x Female!Reader fluff. Feedback is welcome — still a work in progress but hoping to finish by Xmas or New Years. This is my first writing since late 2019 — writer's block hit heavy (snippet below):

"Sure Thing" — MJF x Female!Reader Context: The four times Max knew he was in love with you and the fifth time when he finally admitted it.

[I: The First Time]

He stopped at a sketch, hidden meticulously in the back of the thick pad and marked differently from the others. It would’ve been easily missed if he had been distracted. His brow furrowed, analyzing the outline of the model and the clothing it wore: white trunks patterned with stripes in khaki, red, and black.

“This model looks a lot like me. (y/n/n), did you—”

Max thought back to the particular late nights in your basement three years earlier, as the finishing touches were put on a formal design made for a recent fashion competition: you directing him on where to tack needles on your mannequin as another horror movie played on the television in the background. He listened to your own wide-eyed dreams: designs in the biggest magazines, decorating shelves in the fanciest stores, your clothes on the hometown runways of New York, going international in Paris. Even before you had him try on the finished piece, the stacks of filled sketchbooks already told Max you were destined for something far greater.

“Surprise! You’ll need something else to wear besides shorts and a t-shirt once your training is complete.”

“We can’t be sure I’ll be that good at this yet.”

“You wouldn’t have been talking about this nonstop for the last four years if you weren’t. I’m still thinking of a few other designs with you in mind.”

Time had stopped, if only for a brief moment, with the echoes of training sessions and the distant chatter of fellow wrestlers all fading into an otherworldly silence. Max blushed, eyeing the sketch once more, a rush of emotions swelling within him as he took in the notes scribbled on the side of the drawing: which materials wouldn’t trigger his allergies, strategically placed accents and the more intricate details only known from each late-night conversation. He could feel your head lean against his shoulder, your hand resting on his leg, waiting for him to speak.

“Hello? Earth to Max.”

THE TREES WERE made of metal.

This seemed to be a bit of an odd thing to fixate on, given that he had no idea how he had come to be in this strange grove of unfamiliar trees with leaves that sparkled and glowed in every color of the rainbow like fragments of a prism or a stained glass window, but it was the detail his attention kept returning to. Bronze and gold trunks with curls of silver bark shavings and the occasional flash of spindley copper like new growth stretched out in every direction beneath the canopy of crystal leaves.

"Damn, Toto, we sure ain't in Kansas anymore!"

Sam Winchester bit back the urge to roll his eyes as he turned his attention to his older brother. Dean was crouched down, examining the ground beneath them more than the weird metal trees, which had Sam glancing down as well. The ground, such as it was, appeared to be colorful sand in similar shades as the crystal leaves of the trees, which probably meant it was shattered remnants of leaves that had fallen who knows how long ago. Points for an established ecosystem, then, if far beyond anything he had ever seen or read about.

"Still not a damn dog, Dean," an irritated, smoke-graveled voice huffed from Sam's left. Police Detective John Castiel Novak stepped into Sam's view, momentarily distracting him with the sight of his husband's shapely backside and powerful thighs encased in the black leather pants he usually wore on his days off. A hand extended down and Sam sheepishly met Cas's knowing smirk as he accepted the hand up. "And I'm Sam's familiar, which should really make him Dorothy in this case."

"Pretty sure I'm covering Glinda the Good Witch," Sam piped up dryly, his voice mercifully more steady than he felt. "Which is good since none of us have any convenient ruby slippers to get us home with."

"You're also the only one here who qualifies as a cute animal companion," Dean pointed out, his tone more fond than snarky which was definitely a testament to how long they'd been friends since the disastrous catnapping case where the brothers had met Cas and his twin brother Jimmy. A lot of antihistamines and some dedicated hours of research spent pouring over Sam's and their Uncle Bobby's books to create a potion that would cure Dean's cat allergy had definitely not been wasted as Dean now tended to think of Cas as another brother, albeit an occasionally furry one. "I'm just the dumbass who gets swept along by the storm all the time!"

"Quit flirting with my husband, jerk," Sam said mildly, mostly to hear Dean squawk "bitch!" back at him and get Cas to pout at him like the chaos-inclined cat he was. "How did we end up here?"

"Um," a very unfamiliar voice piped up meekly, drawing three sets of eyes to a thin-faced, willowy girl of about sixteen or seventeen with warm brown skin and thick black hair. "I think that was my fault. I'm sorry!"

"Steady there," Cas said, though it was hard to tell if he was speaking to the girl or to a suddenly very tense Dean. More obviously to the girl, he went on, "How about you tell us what happened and then we'll decide if an apology is even necessary? Helping people with supernatural weirdness is kind of our thing, after all."

"You feel different..." the girl mumbled, studying them with a wary eye. She swallowed, then straightened. "My name is Kaia Nieves. I'm not from this world... but I don't think I'm from your world, either."

"Dimensional shift or multiverse?" Sam asked interestedly. Kaia blinked, then frowned pensively.

"Both?" she said hesitantly, tilting her head to one side. "The place we're in now is technically a dimensional shift, but it's also a multiverse shift because there used to be another me here."

Used to be. Sam exchanged glances with Cas and Dean, his brother relaxing a bit and coming to stand at his shoulder, letting Sam and Cas take point for now. Arranging his expression into one of gentle concern, Sam asked, "What happened to her?"

"She left when the worlds broke open," came the disquieting answer. "All of us got shuffled around, the connections disturbed and distorted, and there was this spear..." She trailed off, rubbing at her chest, then visibly shook herself. "Time moves differently between the worlds, so it's hard to say how long I've been here versus how long I've been gone in my world. I can't contact any of my alternates anymore and I don't know what that means. Before you three showed up, I was trying to reach out to my world's Sam Winchester for help getting home." She offered a tentative, trembling little smile. "He was nice, and even if he couldn't help himself he'd probably know someone who could."

"Fair enough," Dean hummed. At the looks he got, including a surprised and wary one from Kaia, he huffed, "What? Sam's the smartest guy I know, not to mention the only witch I trust unconditionally. Makes sense for you to reach out to him. Not sure about me and Cas, though..."

"Cas is obvious," Sam disagreed. The shapeshifter was bound to him through the familiar bond and their wedding vows which, thanks to Loki's interference, were a lot more involved than a standard human church ceremony. Wither thou goest and all that got a bit more literal when it came to Cas and Sam being able to find each other across the Realms. Apparently that covered alternate dimensions, too. "As for you, the last thing I remember before waking up here was doing the mental hitchhiking thing to help you track down that crooked guy using department resources to hide his illegal human chophouse. Since my mind was already in your body, it stands to reason that your body got dragged along with the rest of me."

"That might be why you all got pulled here physically instead of just me connecting to you," Kaia ventured carefully. "If you were already sharing headspace and I accidentally hijacked your connection..."

"It's the most plausible explanation," Sam agreed, then grimaced and scrubbed a hand over his face. "Unfortunately, the physical relocation without warning means we're here with just what we had on us at the time, no preparation or supplies that we weren't already carrying."

"Which means... what?" Dean asked, frowning.

"We have ourselves, whatever weapons you and I are carrying, and my emergency scrying kit," Cas filled in, shooting a reassuring smile at Kaia when she flinched at the mention of weapons. "So we have at least three able-bodied fighters in case there's' anything dangerous here, and we've got a very basic set of tools for Sam and Kaia to use and hope it's enough to augment the scan for either the Sam of Kaia's world or another Sam who's a bit more prepared for an emergency transdimensional rescue mission."

"What he said," Sam chuckled, feeling a wave of relief at the mention of the scrying kit. He hadn't been sure if Cas was carrying it - they'd been home with Cas standing guard over Sam's body while he did his mental walkabout with Dean, after all - but that definitely gave them at least something to work with.

"I'm really sorry," Kaia said again, ducking her head.

"You got nothing to be sorry for, kid," Dean told her, shaking his head. "You were in trouble, you reached out for help. Ain't nothing wrong with that, and it ain't your fault we weren't properly prepared for a situation like this. You okay?"

"Sorry," Kaia choked out, wiping her eyes. "Sorry, I don't mean to.... You're just a lot nicer than my world's Dean is."

"You sure you don't wanna just skip your world and come back to ours?" Cas asked with a raised eyebrow as Dean clapped a hand over his mouth to muffle the curse Sam knew he wanted to growl. The questions provoked a fresh burst of tears from Kaia, but also a small laugh and a headshake.

"I need to get back to my world," she said, sniffling. "The way I got shunted here, my girlfriend probably thinks I'm dead, and I don't want to make Claire suffer that any longer than I have to."

"That's a sentiment we can all get behind," Sam assured her, holding out a hand and smiling when she tentatively took his hand with hers. "Cas? We've got work to do."

As 2022 draws to a close, I'm realizing that I wrote...kind of a lot of words this year, and that it might be time for a pinned post to try to keep track of all the things! So without further ado, may I present the inner workings of my brain 😁:

For the Fluff Lovers:

A Fine Kettle of Phish, Teen and Up, 7200 words. James Bond/Q. James Bond falls for a spearphishing email, and it falls to Q to give him his mandatory cybersecurity training. This is not going to go well for at least one of them. Read if you like: epistolary fics; IT shenanigans; humor with heart. Avoid if: you prefer fics that adhere closely to canon; you have a fluff allergy.

Trick, Teen and Up, 6600 words. James Bond/Q (Background Nomi/Eve Moneypenny). Series: Trick/Treat James Bond wants nothing more than to convince Q that he's ready for a serious relationship--but in order to do that, he's going to need to figure out what Q's wearing to Moneypenny's Halloween party. Read if you like: Halloween costume parties; Bond proving he's boyfriend material; Bond and Nomi being just deeply extra. Avoid if: you prefer fics that adhere closely to canon; you have a fluff allergy.

Treat, Teen and Up, 9500 words. Nomi/Eve Moneypenny (Background James Bond/Q). Series: Trick/Treat Nomi has two things she absolutely must accomplish by Moneypenny's Halloween party: 1) convince Moneypenny that she's not actually a complete idiot, and 2) help James Bond figure out Q's Halloween costume. One of these things may be easier than the other. Read if you like: Halloween costume parties; queer women talking about their feelings; Moneypenny being perfect as always; Bond and Nomi being just deeply extra. Avoid if: you prefer fics that adhere closely to canon; you have a fluff allergy.

open line, Teen and Up, 2000 words. James Bond/Q. There was no conceivable excuse for it. Bond had prepared to sign off comms the way he always did— “I’ll see you in London, Q.” —and Q, only half paying attention, closing camera feeds, verifying flight paths, had responded— (Or, Q gets distracted on comms, and says the unthinkable.) Read if you like: fluffy oneshots; Q and Bond growing closer over comms; public displays of affection in a Tesco. Avoid if: you have a fluff allergy; you just want to buy some cabbages and don't see why all the kissing is really necessary.

Hoodie, Teen and Up, 400 words. James Bond/Q. A short 00q prompt fill for the Tumblr prompt "Hoodie." Read if you like: characters wearing each other's clothes; very short ficlets; Bond getting drinks thrown in his face; Q being oblivious. Avoid if: you have a fluff allergy; you prefer longer works with more character development.

Home, Teen and Up, 1600 words. James Bond/Q. A 00q prompt fill for the Tumblr prompt "Home." Bond didn’t hate his flat, not exactly. It was just that it was always meant to be a stopgap, a temporary landing place after he’d moved back to London eight months before. The rent was extortionate, to be sure; the views dismal; the heating insufficiently calibrated to the wet London weather. The lift was out of service more often than not; the kitchen was cramped; and his upstairs neighbor seemed to listen exclusively to music by James Blunt, but setting that aside— Bond hated his flat. Read if you like: domestic fluff; slice of life fics; established relationships. Avoid if: you have a fluff allergy; you prefer fics where more things explode.

Must Love Cats, Teen and Up, 5400 words. James Bond/Q. Prompt fill for 2022 Festive Fanwork Fiesta. Q needs a date to his ex-boyfriend's wedding. Bond wants to be Q's wedding date. There are just ten little things he's got to do first. Read if you like: strong rom com vibes; getting together fics; humor with heart; Q being oblivious. Avoid if: you have a fluff allergy; you prefer fics that adhere closely to canon.

come y bebe que la vida es breve, Teen and Up, 1300 words. James Bond/Q. Prompt fill for 2022 Festive Fanwork Fiesta. “Q,” Bond leaned over to kiss the nape of his neck. “You don’t need to fuss over me.” “I’m not fussing,”Q said, without turning around. “I’m cooking. Written for the prompt, "mundane activity done together-shopping, gardening, cooking, etc." Read if you like: domestic fluff; slice of life fics; established relationships. A Good Man, Teen and Up, 2600 words. Benoit Blanc/Phillip. Series: A Good Man 'verse Blanc set down his glass. “Professor, I’m beginning to suspect that you might be the most interesting person here. Maybe even one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met.” Phillip stared. “Are you taking the piss?” (Or, Benoit Blanc returns from his trip to Greece, and Phillip reflects on the night they first met.) Read if you like: domestic fluff; established relationships; memories of getting together. Avoid if: you prefer fics with more on-page mystery solving.

An Ever-Fixed Mark, Teen and Up, 7100 words. Benoit Blanc/Phillip. Series: A Good Man 'verse "It’s extraordinarily presumptuous of me, I know, but how would you feel about killing two of the proverbial birds with one stone?” Phillip shifted in his office chair, his errant heart beating fast again. “What did you have in mind?” “Well, Phillip,” Blanc said, his voice low and pleased, “if you’re amenable, I’d very much like it if you’d come with me to take a look at a painting.” Or, Blanc and Phillip won't let a little thing like an intractable case get in the way of their first date. Read if you like: the first work in this series; fluff; first dates; soft mystery boyfriends; a little light mystery solving. Avoid if: you prefer more emphasis on the mystery and less on the fluff.

Angst with a Happy Ending:

The More Loving One, Teen and Up, 9100 words. James Bond/Q. On this particular Wednesday, he’s so engrossed in his blueprints and his midday cup of tea that he barely acknowledges Bond when he sidles in and leans on Q’s worktable, hands braced on either side of the trace paper. “Can you take me to a gay bar?” Bond asks. Q spits his tea all over the blueprints. Read if you like: poetry; not actually unrequited love; Bond and Q at a gay bar. Avoid if: W.H. Auden is your literary nemesis; the initial appearance of unrequited love makes you too sad.

Bad Thing Twice, Mature, 3100 words. James Bond/Q. Series: Cut to the Feeling It would never have happened the first time, if it weren't for the cardigan. Read if you like: Carly Rae Jepsen; a hint of smut; Q standing up for Bond; characters being surprised by feelings. Avoid if: you prefer not to read on-page sex; you think the budget office has a point, actually.

'tis the damn season, Mature, 5400 words. James Bond/Q. A love story in four Christmases. Read if you like: stories centered around MI6 holiday parties; James Bond working through some things; hurt/comfort. Avoid if: discussion of depressive episodes is triggering; you prefer not to read on-page sex.

Hug, Teen and Up, 900 words. James Bond/Q. Prompt fill. Q has managed to keep it together, over the last two days, and somehow this is what sends him over: James Bond cradling his hand as if it’s something precious, and the simple promise of care. Read if you like: tenderness; hugging; established relationships (sort of); comfort; Bond smelling good. Avoid if: you prefer longer works; you prefer not to read (brief) discussions about Bond sleeping with other people on missions.

This Little Light of Mine, Teen and Up, 3700 words. James Bond and Q (note that this one is pre-relationship). Prompt fill for 2022 Festive Fanwork Fiesta. After the events of Skyfall, Bond spends his nights alone and sleepless in his empty new flat. There's simply no way Q can let that stand. Read if you like: hints of domesticity with a dash of hurt/comfort; Q being exceedingly clever and a little bit socially awkward. Avoid if: mention of grief or insomnia are triggering; you only want to read fics where the characters are in a relationship.

rain, Explicit, 5600 words. James Bond/Q. Prompt fill. Q opened his mouth to say it, only to close it again, the words stagnating on the tip of his tongue: Sometimes, I worry that if no one touches me, I might fade away at the edges, until I disappear. Sometimes I think I might have disappeared already. Or, Q is caught in the rain, and then a silver Aston Martin pulls up beside him. Read if you like: explicit sex (uhhh lots of it); pining (so much pining); characters being lovingly dried off after being caught in the rain. Avoid if: you prefer not to read explicit sex; you prefer fics where more things explode.

for the age of the earth, and after, Mature, 800 words. James Bond/Q. It starts when Bond says, “Tell me how you like it,” and Q says, “Slow.” Read if you like: smut with feelings; the barest sprinkle of angst; the Kantian idea of the sublime. Avoid if: you prefer longer fics; you prefer fics with more plot than smut; you simply Kant (see what I did there).

Archive Warning: Major Character Death. “It’s terribly inconvenient, grieving you,” Q says to no one. “Somehow I think you’d like that.” Q builds an ofrenda for Bond on the Day of the Dead. Read if you like: día de muertos; gentle explorations of grief. Avoid if: you need a happy ending; major character death is too upsetting at the moment.

Prompt fill for 2022 Festive Fanwork Fiesta. “It’s a bitch of a thing,” Felix said, taking a swig of his beer, “loving a country that doesn’t love you back.” Written for the prompt, "Bond has a habit of breaking into the houses of the people he loves. Felix nearly shoots him." Read if you like: in-depth explorations of Felix Leiter's character; love in its many forms; complicated relationships to patriotism. And as a i said in the underboobs one I see Felix go feral about seeing ink on such an intimate place on your body, he would want to mark it as his. Marking it with love bites, and slapping it.

KIM SEUNGMIN

I don’t really see Seungmin as a big fan of tattoo, but it’s not his body so it’s not his word to say. And to be honest even if he isn’t a tattoo fan he find it cute having an ink on your thigh.

He would cherished it, cause it’s a part of you.

When it’s only to two of you he would caress it, and don’t even mind it it’s a reflex now. His hand just go to your tattoo and draw forms on it, or even just tracing it.

YANG JEONGIN

Jeongin was so curious about it, did it hurt ? Why here ? Does it have a meaning ? He just want to know everything about it.

If he is bored I see him bring pens and coloring it cause he is bored and it’s cool. He is a huge fanboy of your tattoo. He loves laying his head on your thigh and see the side of your tattoo next to his hair, it’s funny to him.

Would ask himself if a tattoo would look nice on his body cause why not !

Book Tour: The Blood That Binds Us by Erin Mainord Review

I know I am making a later than normal post and that is because I was trying to get further into The Blood That Binds Us by Erin Mainord so I can share my thoughts with you all.

I am around 40ish percent in the book and was hoping to be further in it now that it is almost 9:30 pm my time. I got allergy shots today (I skipped two weeks due to being sick and having an asthma flare up) and then I only got 4 hours of sleep so that combination made me come home and crash. Then, the reason on me slacking on reading has been because I have been on and off sick and me just struggling with focus from my lovely ADHD.

Anyway, I am really enjoying The Blood That Binds Us. Wren is a fun, sassy heroine of the story who lets Sin know how it is. The banter is really fun. It did take me a tad bit to get into since it was a lot of world building going on in the first few chapters but once I got past that small portion of the book, it became very fast paced and engaging. I am looking forward to seeing how everything plays out.

The Blood That Binds Us is noted to be comparable to The Plated Prisoner Series by Raven Kennedy, From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout, and The Crowns of Nyaxia by Carissa Broadbent. I can definitely say I totally get The Plated Prisoner vives when reading this book so it is a definite yes to if you like The Plated Prisoner series then you will most likely enjoy this book.

I’m really loving the enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, and the one bed trope in this book since they are some of my favorite tropes.

Kekkai Sensen character clothing colors continued

I've been under the weather with epically bad seasonal allergies and a busy few weeks of work on top of deciding to draw and write for fun. Oh, and working on my Daniel Law cosplay for the future. Anyhoo, I'm back to thinking about clothing colors and outfits in KKSS and of course I'm stuck on my man, Daniel. Which might be less about clothing colors and more about the fact that he's got different outfits compared to the rest of the cast.

The most common look and appearance for Daniel Law is from the anime as shown here.

He has his dark brown hair, white dress shirt, red tie, brown suit and tan coat.

In the same episode we later see him kicking back at the office with his messy desk without the coat but still wearing the rest of the drab brown suit. I still want to know how smoking is still allowed in offices and he's got his own ash tray at his desk, where we see the smoke rising up in the entire scene from every angle.

Later on when he appears in season two, he still maintains the same look, tan coat, red tie, white shirt and brown suit.

This is most famously highlighted in the OP where he's on the fire escape here looking at the camera while the rest of the police are not.

He really got the short end of the stick in season two; despite being in the OP and ED (standing near Steven in the ED beyond the yellow police tape) he had one scene in the background looking disgruntled as they arrest the men Steven froze. I'm guessing he's on the phone with Steven or something to that effect.

Of course he shows up in the finale only to yell at Libra that they are finally there still wearing the same outfit.

All of the above scenes except for the Get the Lock Out bit (where he isn't even in the manga chapter) are from the KKSS volumes 1-10. Interestingly, when he's introduced in the manga, Daniel has a light colored tie, both with the policesuits and during his formal introduction through Steven and Klaus.

I guess we are to retroactively interpret this tie to be likely light green since he'll sport one much later in Back 2 Back.

One thing I noticed while reading Back 2 Back was the fact that his suit and tie colors were different depending on the arc.

For the Noctova Smile arc, Daniel sports his most popular look (based on fanart) the pinstripe waistcoat and pants. We first get a look at his pants under his signature coat when he tells Steven to get back to Klaus as he leaves the crime scene.

Later on we get many panels of him at the precinct wearing this waistcoat which save for one page is dark so I'm going to go with red tie. By far this is his best outfit and I refer to it as his outfit upgrade.

The next few stories settle on a mismatched suit pants combination. It is most obvious in the My Life as a Doc chapters.

I guess this is a light brown suit jacket with dark brown pants and a red tie? We also see this in the dead lynx short chapter with Brody & Hummer, as well as Neyka and Patrick's backstory chapter with Guinness.

When the final story of Back 2 Back starts, the Calamity Auction arc, Daniel is back to wearing a light brown suit and red tie. This is likely to contrast with his brother Marcus appearing for the first time with an actual name since his introduction in the background of Bloodline Fever/chapter 5.

Marcus is show back at the precinct wearing a white dress shirt, light green tie and his firearm holster.

This also gets back the the point that I keep thinking about - does Daniel even carry a gun in the story for the most part? Sure he shoots at Nightow in the omake; yet we only see him pull his gun on the auction house manager when he's under arrest with plenty of support. Which makes Daniel's own gun pointless to aim at him.

Adding into the mix was the manga color chapter here after the official introduction of Marcus.

An interesting thing to note is that in the full color page, Daniel is wearing black oxfords which are clear if you have the acrylic stand. Here we have Marcus in a medium grey suit with red tie while Daniel has a purple-grey one with the light green tie. Or perhaps, Marcus is wearing a sort of navy suit which would be the most popular and easiest.

The only signature aspect of Daniel's look are the following; tan coat, white dress shirt and a tendency to wear earth tones, the brown and purple-grey (stone?) sort of color above. He's got a mix of red and green ties just like his brother. Perhaps, the scenes where he's got the darker pants color is when he's wearing this purple-grey suit? There are a few shots of him with dark shoes which may be black instead of brown.

We sort of have to wing it, so I'll go with Daniel either having brown or a possible purple-grey suit.

Brown - this is seen as a classic suit color and one that had the additional vibe of a person being honest, humble, approachable etc. When thinking about Daniel's character, I feel that he's almost honest to a fault - when Luciana Estevez prevents him from entering the hospital to make an arrest he expresses is discontent with a kick to the pipe as well. He's got that scruffy hardworking vibe that he's not trying to impress anyone and instead means business.

Grey-purple - it is hard to determine where this color falls; I'm just putting it under the general darker grey category. It has a warm undertone and would be very practical. Professional but not over the top.

Pinstripes - the Noctova Smile arc was the one time Daniel was sporting pinstripes which are a very formal and power play for menswear. This makes sense since he was the head of the operations to take the object outside of HL via police escort. Additionally, this was a chapter where Daniel was incredibly confident with his plan and back up plans. You couldn't help but feel sorry for him as even his intricate plans did not work out. In his defense he didn't include Curious showing up . . . Return of his pinstripe outfit when Nightow?

White dress shirt - the most classic and practical thing to chose. So, very much Daniel. I could see him rationalizing it based on the fact if it gets dirty, he'll just bleach it. Really, you can't go wrong with white and it works well with brown suits.

Red tie - a clear power color. Shows that he's in charge and fits with his personality to quickly get people to move to action. This is quite obvious across media and styling especially in the States.

Green tie - a confident color. Another example where Daniel is demonstrating that he knows what is happening and competent. I don't think it leans towards the concepts of envy or jealousy. Apparently, much more popular in the UK than the States. Which, now that I think about it, green isn't really a thing in the States. I personally, feel the green is also more youthful; maybe Daniel is trying to compensate for his exhaustion?

Tan coat - classic detective garb in American media. This garment goes back to film noir and detective stories of the early twentieth century. Daniel (and Marcus) are simply more examples of characters who are visually identified by this obvious clothing silhouette. The cigarette adds to his classic detective appearance and the only thing missing is a fedora honestly. However, I don't think that most men have such cinched waists as seen with Daniel. The exact style of his coat also varies from time to time. It could be variability in the artwork (most likely) but I like to think with all of the crazy shit in HL, that's how many coats he goes through in the line of duty.

Anime Daniel is considerably stockier as well as shorter when compared with his appearance in the manga. He is also notoriously slouchy in the manga, making him have posture that is as bad as Steven's. The tight waist is not a part of his character design and they really went with very drab colors besides the red tie. I'd be curious to know what the decision was to change that aspect of his appearance. Hell, I've always been curious why the made Steven's suit charcoal instead of light grey.

Interestingly, the color which is never associated with Daniel is blue - either the classic navy blue or even a more blue-blue. I feel that we might get Marcus wearing navy blue in the future. Hell, it might be sort of what he's wearing in the color panel a navy blue suit with red tie is just classic, lazy, American male power look.

Whatever the color is, it is clear that Daniel does not wear blue. I feel that his color palette is earth tones that are warm. It shows that he's serious, confident and capable but approachable. With a slight issue of getting mouthy or hot-headed when people do things he thinks are really bad ideas. I would guess, Daniel shows that he's somewhat unconventional and doesn't try to default to looking how people expect him to. Instead, he's got a clear retro vibe showing he likely isn't one to follow any sort of trends. He makes his fashion statement with his coat not his suits or ties for the most part. All in all, I think his style choices are deliberate to make sure he looks decent. Yet, at the same time not putting to much effort into it for fear someone would judge him as shallow or vain.

Anyways, that's all I've got on this for now.

It's a bit if a tricky question, because i rarely draw full finished illustrations, but here are my favorites from past few years.

Traditional art:

First picture features my OC Charlie, who's like my main oc, mostly because her level of gremliness makes it easy to put her in Situations. I like this piece bc of the perspective and because i dont draw backgrounds often, so im double happy with how it turned out. I even overcame my allergy to references for this one!

The second one is a fancomic i made to a supernatural fanfiction i read longlong time ago. It was a roleswap sabriel fic, where Gabe had a kid and lived in a post-apo universe and Sam fell from heaven (if i recall correctly lol)

Here, the first picture is a screenshot redraw from a Clone Wars episode! I cant remember which one it was tho, and i long lost the og picture, so no comparison, but i really like how it came out even tho if i drew it now Rex would probably look less show-accurate and more actual-20-sth-old-accurate :d

The secind picture is a piece of art i couldnt describe if i tried, and truthfully it belongs in an art gallery, not my sketchbook. The lines, the position, the composition perfect for the genre's standards, my opus magnum /j

When it comes to digital art, i think my favorite piece rn is the art i drew for the fem!dnf week which you can see HERE :)

How does one get past the mess pit of love and thunder in order to be strong enough do a rewrite fix it?

I mean, it helps that I tend to only write the scenes with Sigyn in them.

Seriously, look back at my rewrite of Ragnarok (which is a film I actually did enjoy) and you'll find some of the most dramatic and melodramatic elements of the fic. Hell, the scene where Sigyn and Loki are reunited on Sakaar was the reason I wanted to write the fic in the first place. And there was absolutely no equivalent in the movie. In the first two films, Sigyn's arcs were complementary to Loki's in very trope-y ways. Sigyn was the Desdemona in the first film, and then the Lady Macbeth in the second. These worked, because those films were drawing from those Shakespearean tropes and motifs. Ragnarok... did not, so I had to switch modes.

Now, I wrote the whole original thing from the first Thor film to the first season of Loki as one huge fic, so I was able to go back and make at least that portion consistent with itself. That's why I've got Frigga singing the song from the train scene in Loki in the first chapter-- I planned for that to be a running theme in the fic when I was going through on the second/third draft. When it came to Ragnarok, it was more of an extension of The Dark World than anything else-- basically, the dog caught the car, so now what? Given that the bedroom scene was the basis of it, I knew three things had to happen.

Loki had to be a shit king, and not that great a husband either, at least under the circumstances. My hands were somewhat tied by the film for this one-- depicting Loki as a neglectful and decadent king who couldn't administrate. I linked the two, and in rewrites and edits, came to what ended up on the page: after the death of Loki's son, he tried to pressure Sigyn for children, she refused, and their marriage fell apart. This led to their administration falling apart, and you know the rest.

They had to be separated for a long period of time. This was easier to achieve-- Sakaar is weird with time, I made her land their two years earlier than Thor.

I had to make Sigyn an enemy of the Grandmaster. The crux of the scene is that Sigyn is offering herself for execution or worse in exchange for Loki's safety, and Loki reveals that it was him in the room the whole time and she would never be in any danger from him. Loki never has and never will lay a hand on Sigyn (outside of sparring).

The last one is where I've really screwed myself with Love and Thunder-- because I put her in charge of the resistance on Sakaar, Sigyn is the one that knows Korg better than anyone else on the cast. I manage to handwave him off into the background, but...

But Korg isn't actually the problem. The problem is Bathos and somewhat-recent inability for Marvel to take its films seriously.

See, LDGP is a melodrama. I have tagged it as such, and I will freely admit it to anyone that asks. And that's not a bad thing! Melodrama thrives in comics and comics-based mediums, and it's fun to write and cathartic to read. Where this comes into conflict with the MCU is that melodrama is based in sincerity, and the MCU seems to have developed an allergy to sincerity. It's not that it can't do it, and it's not consistent either, but it hit Thor hard, and by Thor, I mean the character. Ragnarok had some interesting themes and seemed to at least somewhat continue his arc from the first two films with him finally accepting the throne with humility and understanding the origins of his father's empire and reconciling with his brother. It wasn't a perfect film, and there was some tonal whiplash, but the story was there if you looked, and it took enough things seriously that I was able to accept the tone shift.

Then the Russos decided that they needed comic relief for Endgame.

I'm with Red from OSP on this, I don't think the Russos like Thor very much. Thor having diagnosable depression after the events of Ragnarok and Infinity War? Fine, I'll grant him that, he had a really awful couple of days there. Thor abandoning his duties as king and spiraling into a drunken stupor, with the film framing this as something to laugh at? No, that's just bad writing because you don't know what to do with the character. This was why Thor got dusted, by-the-by. If he'd been treated with respect by the text of the film, I might have gone a different route. I'm not against comedy (Sigyn asking if the TVA is a cult is one of my favorite bits), but I am of the opinion that you should treat your characters with respect. When something happens, allow it to happen without cutting it off at the knees with a joke. Compare the first Guardians of the Galaxy-- there's a lot of jokes and the characters are quick to deflect their emotions with snark, but the film gives "We are Groot." the weight and the significance that it deserves, without being worried that the audience is going to think that the movie is uncool by doing it.

So, to the topic at hand, what I'm going to do with Love and Thunder is the literary equivalent of strip mining the story for its plot and whatever lines of dialogue are necessary to move that along, and make up everything else. I'm also only going to write the scenes that Sigyn directly impacts, because it's a more efficient use of my time, and will give the story of Sigyn and Loki the room it needs to continue. And, I mean, think about the things that are going to have to happen in this fic-- someone's out there killing gods, Sigyn's got a surprise new relative she's never mentioned before, Sif looses an arm, Jane dies, Sig's gotta tell Thor that she's his sister, Loki and Thor are going to reunite...

I've got plenty to work with, trust me. ^_^

So I didn’t want to pause and write up this compilation while I had the game open, but now that I’m back and have a moment, I was looking at some of the environmental design Jesse and I have come across so far. This one’s a bit longer than the others, so here’s a read more:

I had to kind of get my camera right behind Jesse and walk her forward at just the right angle, but I finally got a good look at one of the papers hung on the whiteboard in one of the shadowy offices. [...?] INCIDENT REPORT FORM, it appears to say, and below that: PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY.

This poster I came across in one of the hallways, and, though it’s comparatively simple, it immediately reminded me of the works of M.C. Escher, a graphic artist who created works that aimed for a disorienting optical effect. I spent a bit of time angling my camera to try and get a good view of the bottom text, which is, bizarrely, written in yellow on a white background.

“Can’t find your office? Watch your step”, the poster reads, but the last three words are arranged on the poster’s black-and-white illusory background, featuring blocks that appear to rise and fall despite being as 2D as they come. “Rangers from security department” is the yellow lettering at the bottom, next to the Bureau’s seal. I have absolutely no idea what that means.

This one I really couldn’t make out very well at all: it appears to be the silhouette of a person, and they look to be holding some sort of device, maybe a weapon, something long and thin. “Let’s work hard!” it says, adding: “His life is in your hands. Everyone’s safety depends on you!”

Quite a lot of responsibility for Jesse here, considering that she just came in out of the rain. It was this poster, more than the others, that gave me a feeling of true unease. So the safety of their employees can’t actually be guaranteed by the Bureau itself, huh? Something to keep in mind.

This, finally, is the notice board I came across earlier, before Jesse and I met Ahti. It’s a big, cork board with a variety of overlapping posters and papers, but I got Jesse up close to it to see how much I could make out. Makes me wish I had a pip-boy, but, well, you -- and Jesse -- can’t have everything.

OFFICE RULES OF CONDUCT reads the leftmost one, and this one’s mostly legible. Unfortunately I can’t quite make out the handwritten addition to item #4 (”or the 3d-printer”? “or the ... stationary”?), but the type is as follows:

Speak in moderate volume

No personal calls

No food or drink around Bureau documents or in the copy room

No using the photocopier for personal projects

Wear access badge at all times

No discussing confidential projects out loud

The one to finish the coffee pot makes a new one

The poster immediately to the right of this list is also fairly legible: it has a picture of two illustrated hands, some bubbles, and, in large, block letters, REMEMBER TO WASH YOUR HANDS: YOUR HANDS CAN SPREAD THE MOLD. The last part of it is underscored, and below it reads:

Be sure to:

Wash hands carefully with soap

Make sure to wash all fingers, nails, palms, backs, wrists

Rinse thoroughly and dry carefully

To the far right is an orange poster with an illustrated clock with four hands, smiling out at Jesse from its illustrated face. Above it reads, in bold type: DELAYS CAUSED BY HOUSE SHIFTS DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS OVERTIME. Two sticky notes have been stuck to the poster. The first appears to read “Spinning out of control??” with the last word underscored. The second just reads YES in large, capitalized letters.

The rest appear to be far more mundane. Two papers hung side-by-side both read: “Let’s say hi & welcome to some new people in the oldest house!” Nine people are pictured, though I can’t read their names.

A paper below that has a drawing of a dog with a great big red, crossed-out circle superimposed over it: PLEASE, it appears to read, below overlapping corners of other posters, “don’t bring dogs into the office. A third, hung at the corner of the second, is relatively plain: it simple reads “Reminder to all staff: Food left in the refrigerator in Containment break room 3-B has been known to vanish. Plan accordingly.” It sounds rather like a threat.

I am, however, immediately distracted by the final paper I can make out. ACOUSTIC GUITAR FOR SALE! it reads, in blocky, handwritten letters. “Turns out it’s pretty hard. If interested, see Greg in Maintenance.” It’s possible that the name is actually “Grey”, but Jesse and I don’t have time to ponder, because that guitar is $50.

$50! For a guitar!

Forget everything else, Jesse, we gotta book it to Maintenance to pick up that guitar.

LA 251 pt 1

The blog cannot keep up with LA. Just when I think I covered it all I remember a woman masturbating on a discarded office chair as I was driven through koreatown in the sun. I remember J telling me he had sex with a man wearing a gold hat. I remember Lyft sending me a notification that my driver is hard of hearing, with a link I could click to learn to say hello in ASL. I remember R's Japanese friend saying of my show - "I was thinking, what kind of woman made these paintings?". And how at Kismet with C they let us smoke on the premises and I vowed to someday draw a map for smokers visiting Los Angeles - where to go, where not to try Before lunch with C and a long conversation about suicide, I meet A at MoCa Geffen to mostly gossip about men with Tala Madani paintings in the background. We only shut up and look when we enter the video room - an animation of a man pulling a long, pale penis from his pants and hitting himself with it. I think to cold dm Madani and ask for a music video, but realise the foley is so important. A saved my ass that morning because R indirectly expressed that he didn't want me in his house past 10am and A is almost as jet lagged and unmoored in LA as I am. After the show we go to what turns out to be a Japanese coffee shop selling pallid, cartoonish croissants and espresso that gives me palpitations. We part and I head to rotisserie chicken with C. Even when she's sad she speaks at lightning speed. She asks if I want to go to X opening or Y collector's home and I not-so-politely decline. Instead I head to G and A in Beverly Hills and brave a visit to Gagosian, where I narcissistically fear I may be escorted from the premises. G begins coughing and sneezing uncontrollably as soon as we enter the Jim Shaw show. I ask if it's allergies and he says maybe and I say or perhaps it's just Gagosian I go back to spend exactly 45 minutes of quality time with my uncle, and watch doubt flood his face when I tell him a psychic advised me to wear red more, and nailed my eating problems. "But couldn't you say of any young woman that she doesn't eat well?", he asks Britishly, sceptically. I tell him I'm dining at Craig's this evening and he says he's both never been and doesn't want to go. Why is this man ruining my trip?
