Fancast Alert - Alicia Witt as Mara Jade Skywalker
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The former Emperor's Hand-turned-Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker's wife, and the mother of Nellith and Reyana, Mara has been presumed dead for fourteen years, killed during the attack on the temple. In reality, she made it out safety with Rey, but was forced to leave her on Jakku and sever both their force connections to protect them. She feared the worst about her husband and her eldest, but circumstances have meant she's been unable to find out anything, about her family, and it isn't until she senses two powerful awakenings that she realises both her children, at least, have managed to survive...
Tagging (let me know if you want to be added or removed): @shrinkthisviolet @starstruckpurpledragon @daughter-of-melpomene (I know this isn't an OC but she's part of an OC AU and is an OC's mother, so I think this counts ^_^)

if you’re looking for fic recs, you may enjoy “the price of forgetting” by lautdalam. It’s part of the series “bang the war-drums” and it involves an earlier attempted Darth Vader redemption (I say attempted because Vader tries! He’s just. Continuously being handed L’s by the universe at large). I may know some clone wars fics if that’s what you prefer too :)
Band the War-Drums is actually an old favorite of mine. This ask actually prompted me to go back and start rereading it lol. So thanks.
I do love a story where Vader's obsessive dad instincts zero in on Leia instead of Luke. There's just something so fun about it, I think partially because their familiar connection in the OT is treated like an after thought (because it kind of was *cough* Nellith *cough*) so having it be the focal point of a story instead is something I really really enjoy.
And yeah, throw those recs my way, I'm always looking for more. There's a fair chance I might have already read those too tho lol. I just checked my ao3 history and I've read/checked out just under 1,500 Star Wars fics since I got back into the fandom two years ago. And that's not even counting the ones I've dug up on ff.net and theforce.net lmao

I figured out a way Mara Jade (and a Jade-Skywalker baby) can be incorporated into SW canon
Wanna hear it?
Baby
So I figure that Mara could be another early Jedi student of Luke, still an ex-imperial, but not Palpatine's personal assassin, just an imperial intelligence agent, or alternatively she is a part of a cadre of Force sensitive spies/agents, the results of the Inquisitors mass kidnapping of Force sensitive children, but anyways...
Mara and Luke met not long after the war's end, and although Mara has talent, she ultimately chose not to join up and be a Jedi as a lifestyle, but Mara still helps the Luke out, finding artifacts, documents, potential recruits, etc, and two remained close, having a casual on/off relationship, which leads me to...
Mara ultimately conceived a child with Luke, the baby being born in 26.5 ABY (same time as Ben Skywalker in legends), the kid is a girl and her name is Nellith (the name is a reference to what was going to be the name of Luke's sister before Lucas opted to combine the character with Leia) now Mara chose not to tell Luke about this, as she knew how important rebuilding the Jedi was and didn't want to distract Luke, and maybe she got some bad vibes from Ben Solo and didn't want Nellith around him, but Mara did intend to bring Nellie to the Jedi and meet Luke eventually when everyone was ready
And then disaster (28 ABY)
Luke is missing, his temple is destroyed, his students gone, and there's some dark side warlord of an Imperial Remnant faction leaving no stone unturned looking for Luke
So Mara and Nellith go to ground, they effectively disappear, keeping a low profile and out of sight of the First Order/Kylo Ren, especially once the new war begins, of course, Mara can't completely disappear, her conscious won't allow it, so she acts as an informant for the Resistance, even keeping direct contact with Leia
and although Mara never tells Leia about Nellith and who her father is, Leia figures things out on her own, but says nothing out of respect for Mara's privacy and wishes
And after ROS, Mara decides its time, and brings Nellith to Rey and Finn, intending to help them rebuild the Jedi, finish her own training, and let Nellith follow the path of her father

i just recently learned that while luke was always going to have a twin sister, it being Leia was a last minute decision. I guess after luke was done dealing with Vader, the next story arc was going to be him finding his sister, Nellith. Could you imagine, just living your best life and then all of a sudden some random dude comes up to you, and tells you that you both share the same dad vader?
Never heard of Nellith idk who that is, sorry. But I think Luke would have the same reactions as he did with Leia.

Starwalker | The Alura Trilogy, Book 2 [She-Ra 2018] - 6 | Thorn of Thaymor (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/1200383701-starwalker-the-alura-trilogy-book-2-she-ra-2018-6?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_reading&wp_uname=Dudabuck93&wp_originator=N%2FzdHxvDCIvVJwVDwLE75HPIkji8db5ODqvtpajgz0n%2FCftY6ntIlJoi3dYNTDlBJw37QILo1X6BF9pW10nl0iQGvOvxMKd10zTUZq2w7KsYWmHUR9PBKz9IOqTlYae0 Five years have passed since Emeth Light Spinner cast the Spell of Obtainment and was presumed dead. But little does the world know that she survived, and lives on as the dark sorceress Shadow Weaver. As the second-in-command of the Horde, she is bound to wreaking destruction on Etheria as revenge for the pain they put her through. But Shadow Weaver has a secret - care for the soon-to-be king of Bright Moon, General Micah of the Rebellion. Though the young, idealistic commander does not know who she is, Shadow Weaver watches him with buried longing for a return to the days when they trained together as master and apprentice in Mystacor. She cannot allow anyone in the Horde to know this, for fear of being deposed - not even her most loyal servant, Carmen - and cannot let her identity slip to him for fear of rejection. RATED M FOR THE FOLLOWING: frequent references/depictions of self-harm and suicide, infrequent depictions of physical abuse, infrequent references to sexual abuse, PG-rated sexuality. *Can be understood without having seen She-Ra. *A sequel to Alura; please read that book, or this one won't make sense. *I do not own Shadow Weaver, Micah, or She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. This is a creative work of fanfiction.

Tell me why the star wars fandom would dislike Nellith Skywalker if she were real! 👀
Oh boy, now this is a can of worms because the Star Wars fandom is quite the tire fire. I mean, first of all the fact she's a prominent female character would piss off a certain subset from the word go, especially as she's also a legacy character, Luke Skywalker's eldest daughter, which would annoy sexists and die-hard Legends fans who wanted to see Luke with a son and not a daughter (of which there's probably overlap already, but fuck if I'm going into the tags to find out).
The other main sticking point would be the fact that she's not as powerful in the Force as her father, mother, and younger sister - even though she is still one of the more powerful Force-users around, the fact that she isn't as powerful would mean she's seen as less than because she's a not a Strong Female Character unless she's badass and kicks ass, and the fact she actively wants to become a Jedi Biologist would be fuel to the fire. Nellith can and will fight when she has to, but ultimately she doesn't want to be a warrior, so that would be a big mark against her.
Also the fact that she's perfectly willing to call Kylo out on his actions and while part of her does hope he finds his way back to the Light, she's not willing to be the one to reach out to him - that would piss off the Kylo stans, but also there does seem to be a general expectation in fandom of women being the ones to redeem men, and the fact that she refuses to do so would probably earn her accusations of being heartless or other such (and probably much less polite) terms.
OC ask game - fandom dislike

“Brackett’s screenplay was based on a story treatment by Lucas, so clearly, Luke DOES have a twin sister in this movie. However, it’s clear that it’s NOT Leia, as Brackett initially names the sister, Nellith, but then crosses that out.”

The Children of the Stars— Chapter Fifty-Three: The Opening Ceremonies
The combination of the Force and makeup had done wonders. She knew that she would be able to even confuse the Force-users in the room. She after all was Allana’s twin, and the two of them carried themselves similarly in the Force. Perhaps someone intimately familiar with one or both would be able to pick out the difference, but she suspected that Brakiss knew neither all that well.
Even when she was the Empress’s Hand.
Still, despite what she’d said to Allana and how she outwardly acted, she didn’t like taking this risk.
But what else could she do?
She wasn’t going to let Allana die. And despite everything, she knew that in the very end, she was the most disposable of all of the Skywalkers. Her sister was the true Sword of the Jedi, even if she knighted her. When Jacen recovered, he would lead the Jedi Order. Allana would be queen of at least forty systems. Anakin. . . Anakin was supposed to be the best of them. And Thea was supposed to be queen of New Alderaan, a return to the best of the old age.
Where did that leave room for Nellith?

“Flashes like camera bulbs fire in my brain
Is this truly me, am I going insane?
In faint bloody flashes I watch people die
And if that was me, then who am I?”
Revan was born on Andelm IV, named Yuell tin Qetu. Discovered in the aftermath of the war with Exar Kun, she was taken to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Became fast friends with Alek, knew Atris and Sareth and would occasionally pull them into antics.
Her hair was long when she started out across the Outer Rim. She’d keep it tied back. Used a single-bladed violet lightsaber, but was versatile. She always said it was for sentimental reasons, a reminder of life before everything got so complicated. Really it’s because Revan thrived when people underestimated her.
The War changed everyone. You can’t do that much fighting, killing, and dying without some repercussions. Eventually Revan stopped crying at night. She cut her hair, picked up the mask, and fought the Mandalorians on their own terms.
The thing is, when it ended? It wasn’t enough. After what they’d done, what they’d seen? How could they go back to the Jedi and the Republic? How could Revan go back to being nothing?
Nellith Kayos was born on Deralia. She had a girlfriend named Sareth who smiled like the stars. Her mother, Kreia, died when she was young. Sareth broke her heart, leaving to chase dreams of sirens and glory. She had a brother named Alek, who died when...when someone attacked. Mandalorians. They bombed the planet. After that, Nellith ran. To the Republic. To the military. Anything to ensure that tragedy wouldn’t happen to anyone else.

Hi hi Nellith! (This time I know I'm right.)
I won't ask you what crimes you think I'd commit because you keep liking the weirdest posts I've made. I'd love to bake cookies! You'll have to drag me out the door though because I hate going outside.
Thank you for the ask! (link to meme here)
