A little fun & sweet moment that happened my girlfriend (she/they) recently & I really want to share it <3
I introduced my girlfriend to New Mutants not too long ago, and she really likes it now, and they also grew to like Shela. And just recently, they found out Shela was a trans woman. She was absolutely over the moon excited. (& it was very cute & heartwarming to say the least.) From what I recall, that was her first time seeing a trans mutant, and she was so excited to with that representation (as a trans woman themself)
I just want to thank @charliejaneanders for honestly making such an impact, and making my girlfriend feel so happy & noticed. Seeing someone so thrilled by feeling seen & in something they love so much really truly shows the importance of characters such as Shela.
Tumblr media
And fun fact, she and I want to cosplay Martha & Shela together. Bring the ship to life! We're very excited 🤍

Happy X-July, or whatever! Trust me to be always too late for any celebration, I have decided, having finally seriously get into X-Men just in time for their 60th anniversarry, to share with you an obscure promotional comic from 1990s.
If you don't know, early 90s were not only the hight of X-Men's popularity, but a mythical time where people still not only read, but actually bought physical floppies of comics, to the point that in 1993, Toys R' Us could sell promotional comic NOT based on the hit cartoon, but taking place in the actual comics continuity, featuring X-Men's iconic adversary Gideon, surely the most significant character to debute in New Mutants #98,
This silly thing does actually have some historical significance for hardcore X-fans believe it or not, as it is not only the this the first time Deadpool has met any of the non-EXTREME X-Men (and only his second appearance outside of New Mutants/X-Force after Nomad #4-a very different time indeed), this is the only appearance of Karma of the New Mutants between Wolverine Volume 2 #9 in July 1989 and Beast #1 in May 1997, still searching for her siblings.

Fallout Casting for Ryomen Sukuna Matata for Jujutsu Kaisen Abridged react fic
Tumblr media
"Fuck school! Be crime! Do gay!" - Ryomen Sukuna, Episode 2 JJK Abridged (by the Schmuck Squad).
Tumblr media
Reasons To Why I Believe These Characters Should Be Casted listed below the cut:
Richard Grey/The Master (the leader of the Super Mutant Army and the main antagonist of Fallout (1997), seeking to evolve humanity into super mutants with the Forced Evolutionary Virus (FEV), however, is stopped by the Vault Dweller, Elrand Brandt, and his companions via the power of persuasion) -> Mostly the grotesque way his body is morphed and stuff, but you can imagine his mouth opening on Ryder's body like Sukuna does on Itadori's body.
Sulik (a tribal looking to save his sister in Fallout 2, was saved by the Chosen One, Finidy Mona, and joined her as a companion to find the GECK, while she also helps him save his sister from slavers) -> It's mostly his tattoos that got me to choose him as a potential candidate.
Stanislaus Braun (the Overseer of Vault 112 in Fallout 3, Braun is a sadistic old man who regularly tortures his captives in a world of virtual reality, but had known the location and use of the GECK, which lead James Dolen to seek him out (only to be transformed into a dog), but was later outwitted by Alph inside the VR world and Amata from within Vault 112) -> Evil for the sake of being evil? Hates a kid for no reason? Would definitely take over somebody's body if given the chance? Sukuna candidate.
Yes Man (a securitron Benny had tampered with to help him overthrow House, is key to the Independent Vegas ending of Fallout New Vegas. Courier Six, aka Ryder, finds him in Benny's penthouse, and teams up with the securitron to save Benny from Caesar and overthrow House together) -> Listen he's too cheery for his own good. And sarcastic too. Like Abridged Sukuna.
DiMA (the synth co-leader of Acadia in Fallout 4 Far Harbor DLC. He is also the "brother" of Nick Valentine, the person who gets the Sole Survivor, Nate, to admit that he's likely a synth himself and has been involved in the sketchy shit around Far Harbor) -> Though the least potent candidate, what cannot be denied is that DiMA disregards everything about morality when it comes to doing what he thinks is the ways things should be.
The Scorchbeast Queen (the motherfucking progenitor of the Scorched disease and the final boss of Fallout 76 (if players nuke her nest at Fissure Site Prime). The Resident, Vega, only survives her encounter with the Scorchbeast Queen because of the FEV that had partly transformed her) -> She looks as ugly as Sukuna's fingers.
John Henry Eden (the President who runs the Enclave in Fallout 3, has all the personalities of the past presidents copied and downloaded into his A.I. He intended to use the water purifier to release a modified FEV into the water to kill anyone with a trace of radiation in them. He attempted to get Amata onboard with this plan, but since it would technically kill Alph, Amata convinced the president to give her the virus to "use" and tricked Eden into self-destructing and run like hell while Raven Rock fell down around her, towards Alph and his companions who were fighting outside trying to get to her inside) -> Eden and Sukuna are all aboard the murder express.
Dean Domino (one of Ryder's temporary companions in Fallout New Vegas Dead Money DLC. He was friends with Frederick Sinclair and had used Vera Keyes to get him one step closer to the Sierra Madre vault, however America being nuked interrupted this heist and lead him to being ghoulified, and while trying to get into the Sierra Madre, had been forced by Father Elijah to help him get into the resort. Dean eventually betrays Ryder inside the Sierra Madre, having been unable to comprehend someone could be as smart as him, which leads to him getting filled with lead) -> Dean Domino is a selfish bastard, Ryomen Sukuna is a selfish bastard.
Dr Klein (a brain apart of the Think Tank in Fallout New Vegas Old World Blues DLC, he was the director of the Big MT. His speakers are set on a loud volume and he is quite an arrogant punk. Klein and the rest of the Think Tank had vivisected Ryder, taking her heart and spine (and losing her brain to Dr. Mobius) and would only allow her to leave if she dealt with Mobius and gave them the resources to explore the Mojave from the safety of Big MT) -> As loud as Abridged Sukuna is.
Ishmael Ashur (the leader of the Pitt in Fallout 3 The Pitt DLC, though he is the big boss of slavers and raiders, Ashur is trying to humanely find a cure for the Trog which his daughter Marie seems to be immune to. However, the Lone Wanderer, Alph's appearance in the Pitt shakes things up) -> If Ashur just lost his benevolent intentions behind his actions and was doing things for the evils, he could be a lot like Sukuna.
God (the alter who acts as the "conscience" to a nightkin called Dog in Fallout New Vegas Dead Money DLC, he looks out for Dog and wants to kill Father Elijah so badly. Ryder helps both Dog and God make peace with each other and merge them both into a new personality) -> God is the voice in Dog's head, and his voice is quite menacing. Like Sukuna, though Sukuna is more malevolent than God.
Remember, for the alternative option, REBLOG and put in the tags WHO else from the Fallout franchise should be Abridged!Megumi and WHY you think they'd better suit the role. Also if there is a tie, then a repost will be made with only the tied candidates, and you'd have to pick from them.
I've also created and will continue to update (until the polling is done) a Master List for the poll results of the casted winners. You can find it right here.
You can find my Fallout OC profiles Master List right here, which also includes a link to the original post where I pitched my react fic idea. Anyway, hope you enjoyed, chow!

This fanfic is not popular at all, but goddamn I'm having fun writing it 😤👏 WOO
Tumblr media
It took them some weeks, but plans were finally getting in motion. Late at night, Vee received a message on her phone only to notify her that Donnie was waiting outside the appartment building.
"Meet me down on the street?" she read with slight confusion.
Packing her gear into a backpack, she headed to the building's entrance, meeting with a garbage truck waiting by the sidewalk. The woman hesitated for a moment, but dared climb to the passenger door, peeking inside.
The first thing she noticed was the array of electronics decorating the space, but she also saw Donatello sitting at the driver's seat, striking a goofy waiting pose with a grin. Vee laughed, not waiting to get in. She was first met with music, recognizing the tune as Evil Woman by ELO.
"I'm sure you chose that song on purpose," she pointed, sitting down.
"Oh come on, I would never," he teased back. "It just so happened to start as soon as you got in."
"Uh-huh," sourly agreed the human, although playful as well.
She took a moment to look around the cockpit, truly amazed by everything her eyes landed on. As her gaze moved, she then got to the back of the vehicle, her eyes growing even more.
"Holy shit Donnie, what even is this truck?!" She pointed towards one part. "There's even a couch, what the fuck!"
"That's where the magic happens," he played off cool, though he remained comical. "Welcome to smooth Donatello's fuck mobile."
That got Vee to burst into laughter, a loud snort easily escaping her. She rapidly placated a hand to her mouth, looking back at the terrapin with renewed wide eyes. That brought the mutant to laugh as well, soon the same sound leaving him too. The woman pointed at him next, snorting again.
"No way! We laugh the same!!"
They could only fuel one another, yet reached a resolve with warm smiles, somehow charmed by this unforseen similarity. Donnie broadly gestured to the back of the truck.
"Actually, this is primarly a battle truck. ... But I gave it my own twist to also make it a party van," he winked at the end.
"I mean, with the disco ball, I can see that," added the human, still peaking and looking over from her seat.
"I know just what's needed to get this party started!"
With a flick to his radio, another song started, its beat already catching Vee's attention. The tune of We Like To Party! from Vengaboys was now blasting, the woman already cheering while Donnie got the truck back on the road. She couldn't stop dancing a little in her seat as she started singing along - to the terrapin's slight surprise. He couldn't hide his smile as he was driving, enjoying this burst of happiness from her. As the first half of the song ended, Vee sighed to calm her excitement, lowering the music's volume. Settling herself comfortably in her seat, she glanced over at the terrapin, a grin forever present on her features.
"So! What excuse did you give to your family?"
Donnie lightly tapped the steering wheel, his eyes still on the road: "Said that I needed to do some test runs with the truck for a couple of new features. I've been indeed working on it lately, but I'm not done yet with the upgrades. ... But they don't need to know that!"
"That's what I'm talking about," added Vee with a smirk.
Getting to meet up was definitely a challenge as it went on. Ever since that night Donatello got into an argument with Leo, his return home had been met with a family sit down and a long and tedious conversation about the mission and the woman's involvement. Raph had reported that she didn't seem like a threat, physically - to which Donnie gave him the stink eye. She was aware of the plan to take the Foot clan down, as well as any potential Purple Dragons involvement. For Leonardo, that was already too much, but for Donnie that was only the tip of the iceberg. They knew nothing, many details were still in the dark. The terrapin did bring a point on the table regarding Vee's findings about Bishop and their ties to the so-called "Earth Protection Force". With that lead, Donnie had been able to research the organization and had indeed found out that Bishop kept themselves involved in many projects that dealt in non-human findings and various xeno researches of the likes. There was a pattern to notice, and there was no way the turtle would let that go. His family may be well against the woman's participation, but they didn't need to be made aware of it for now.
They arrived near their destination; a tall tower that was reserved for pharmaceutical research and various medical advancements. Parked, Vee observed the building from her seat, pushing out a quick sigh.
"Another tower... great."
"I already got the layout figured out, it won't be so bad."
"Hopefully the security won't be as arduous as the Foot's."
"Piece of cake, I'll say," smirked the terrapin.
The woman playfully rolled her eyes, hopping out of her seat and heading towards the back of the truck - she did not miss the opportunity to smack Donnie's shoulder on her way.
"I'll get dressed, don't peek."
The mutant tsked in amusement, shifting the vehicle's stick to get it back in motion and closer to the building. He couldn't help peeking into his rearview mirror a little...
He stopped the truck near a back entrance where delivery trucks would usually go. Parking into a dark spot, he then stepped out, soon joined by Vee in her usual technical gear.
"So, where do we start?" she asked in her flanged tone.
The terrapin tapped something to his right wrist, a 3D holographic model - or rather its inner skeleton - of the building appearing from a small projector on his shoulder strap.
"Seems like we have some naughty hematologists in here who's been leaking some blood sample information to the Purple Dragons." He tapped to a higher floor, a dot marker appearing. "We'll need to reach the 24th floor and tap into those databases - see what they have to offer."
"Why does it always have to be on such high floors?" briefly sighed the woman.
"Aw, come on, it'll be fun," smirked the other, tapping another button, this time highlighting vents and corridors throughout the whole complex. "We can either stick together and go along a path that shouldn't offer too much surveillance, or you can wiggle alone in the vents. They'll be too small for me, so I can't sneak around in them."
"Would we reach the destination at the same time?"
"If you work that butt of yours fast enough in those vents, maybe. You might even get there a bit earlier than me."
"Bet. I just need to know how I'll head there exactly."
On cue, Donnie reached for a pouch to his belt, next handing a watch-like device to the human.
"Wear this; you'll be able to view the same map I have and it'll highlight you the best route."
Vee faked a gasp, accepting the object with slight giddiness.
"Monsieur Donatello, you are the gift that keeps on giving!"
"Watch out, soon enough I'll claim my due," he winked.
The duo got on the move, keeping communications open as they went their seperate ways. Disabling the cameras had indeed been a piece of cake, the terrapin still making his way carefully along the halls and stairs. Vee had mostly been complaining about dust and some webs here and there, but her trek did allow her to reach higher levels faster. As she arrived to the 24th floor, she slipped through an opening large enough for her at floor-level - after removing the grid. Easily spotting a room with computers and various testing equipments, Vee made a beeline as she brought the watch up:
"I've made it. I'll start looking through the files."
No answer.
"Donnie?"
His voice came through as a hush: "We've got company."
Still walking towards the room, she spoke in soft tones as well: "Who?"
She steered for the first computer she laid eyes on, already booting it up and ready to slip in a key that could bypass any login credentials.
"Foot ninjas," he replied. "They're just a couple of floors under you. I'll try to see how many of them there are."
"Hacking in, grabbing stuff, and waiting for you," simply answered Vee, tapping on the keyboard next.
Already starting to copy over files, she dared moving away and tried peeking out of the room. She first heard some faint footsteps, barely noticing some dark figures before she reeled back inside.
"They're coming," the woman stiffled through gritted teeth. "What the fuck is the Foot clan doing here anyway?"
"Drop everything and go," advised the turtle.
"Go where? I'll have to go past them to reach the vents!"
"Hide! I'm coming."
Vee glanced at her download, not even halfway through. She'd just need a couple more minutes.... With a hushed groan she turned the green lights of her googles off, retracting to a dark corner, under a desk. The ninjas made their way closer, stopping by the room's entrance. The woman worried as to why they were interested, when she realized that the computer she was messing with was the only one with its monitor on .... damn idiot. Three figures stepped in, coming closer to the hardware. They were speaking softly, observing the transfer window. It was when Vee picked up something along the phrase "let's unplug this" that she got some smoke bombs out. Slipping out of her hiding spot, her hand grabbed the first thing she could - a pen - and threw it far so it made noise right outside the hallway. The ninjas' attention diverted, Vee did not hesitate to throw her bombs next and took the chance to slip through the smoke and right to the computer. In a swift move she grabbed her key, hoping she would have enough information, and settled back up to chance an escape. Yet her action was altered, a hand grasping one of her wrists, a mask figure meeting hers. Her body was instantly lifted and thrown up against tables nearby with a loud crash. Voices rose in a warning an alarm suddenly blaring through. Vee barely had time to come to reason that a renewed pair of hands grabbed her by the front of her hood, yanking her back on her feet.
"What are you doing here?" asked one of the ninjas, still holding her firmly.
The woman winced lightly, trying to play it cool afterward: "I wanted to get a good idea of the building's layout. I have an interview tomorrow. I'll be less worried."
Wrong answer. She got slammed on the table once again.
"What did you copy?"
"Wouldn't you like to know, sweetheart."
She saw the other raise his fist, ready to punch her face, but Vee had been quick enough to raise her knee and hit the other straight to his groin area. As the ninja reeled back, the woman was standing on her feet - slightly dizzy. The smoke dissipating, she could see the two others ready to strike her, Vee instantly holding up her fists in a boxing position. It'd been a while since she last "fought" something, but now was no time to slack. Her first opponent came swiftly, his kick interrupted with a quick block from Vee's wrists. Her claws gave her an advantage as she ripped through some clothes, drawing a bit of blood from superfical cuts. All she had to do was to keep herself in defensive until Donnie would come...
The second man came in delivering a punch to her side. A loud grunt left the woman, but she came back with a vengance as she shouldered her attacker, then elbowing right under his chin as hard as she could. Next spotting a metal tray, she grabbed it, deflecting another kick from the other she blocked prior. It was a constant back and forth, trying to keep her head out of this metaphorical raging water. Her body was screaming in pain, but the adrenaline was keeping her in check - always ready to punch or stop any ninja coming her way. She heard some heavy footsteps coming down the hallway through all this commotion. In this cacophony, the first man who'd grabbed her was finally back on his feet, shouting for the two others to move aside. In a juxtaposition, she spotted Donatello's shape at the door frame, behind the now clearly angered ninja. Vee felt some instant relief wash through her, but it was shortly lived when she felt a kick to her chest - strong enough to push her backward and have her crashing through a window and down the tower.
The terrapin's yell was instant, rushing into the room and barely minding the Foot ninjas as he shoved them out of the way. His only goal was the window, through which he jumped and next aimed for a screaming Vee.
His weight was an advantage at this moment, falling faster than the human. Her arms were already extended towards him in this blatant need for help. As soon as the mutant got a grab of her hand, he instantly pulled so that Vee could wrap her arms around his neck and squeeze her thighs against his sides. In an expert move, Donnie reached for a gun-like device with suction cups, aiming for windows. As it stuck, the duo was slinged through another glass, the terrapin bracing for impact as he surrounded the woman in his arms and rolled into a room, barrelling through chairs and desks.
... They remained in this closed position for a couple more seconds, simply to acknowledge the fact that they were not falling anymore. Donnie was the first one to move and sit up with a groan, looking down at Vee who was still clutching at his very being.
"... Are you alright?" he asked.
She barely nodded, finally moving in turn, yet remaining in his lap and facing him for a little while more. She removed her hood and her googles, lowering her mouth mask with a shaky breath.
"You saved me..."
That got a quick snicker from the other.
"What? You wanted me to let you splatter down on the pavement?"
She didn't answer at first, prefering to hug back around his neck once more. He had said that as a joke, of course, but deep down his core he would have never forgiven himself if it had been the case. The immense fear that had gripped him as he watched her crash through that window... Free falling was something normal along his patrols, but for her it must've been a fearful realization that death had only been some mere seconds away. He hugged her back, nuzzling her hair. All he wanted was to hold her forever...
The constant beeping alarm caught back to their ears, prompting them to move once more. This time Donatello winced, noticing a pain to his right shoulder. Looking over, the duo noticed a big shard of glass firmly planted into his scales, blood already starting to trail around the wound.
"Oh, hello," simply observed the terrapin.
Vee's mind rushed at the sight, realizing that this was a chance. She needed to think of something quick that would allow her to get some sample secured... Her deer-in-headlights stare did not escape the turtle. He waved a hand slowly before her eyes.
"Hey, you good? Are you uncomfortable with the sight of blood?"
Vee snapped back to life, comically dismissing his concern.
"I bleed every months, I can handle it."
"As expected," he was shuffling through a pouch at his belt. "I'll need you to put some gauzes and tape on the wound after I'm done removing the shard."
"Don't you want me to remove it?"
He handed her the needed items, his head shaking slightly.
"It needs to be removed in one swift move as to avoid breaking the glass. I'm strong enough to do it, don't worry."
She agreed, preparing the first aid care. Donnie placed his left hand around the glass, prepping himself mentally until he swiftly pulled - a sharp hiss leaving his lips. Some quick "go, go, go" escaped him, trying to numb down the pain as he focused on Vee's actions.
"Let's go back to my place, I'll be able to patch you up better," she said after being done.
"Was about to propose the same," he added, still wincing a bit. "Before the others catch up to us."
***
The ride back to the apartment was definitely somewhat quieter. Donnie was trying to not focus on his right shoulder, prefering to throw in speculations as to why Foot ninjas had been present. Were they securing the information? Were they trying to steal the data instead? Was there anything else of value over there? The reasons seemed infinite and that could only fuel the duo's curiosity and theories even more.
Finally arriving at Vee's place, the woman hurried to her floor as the terrapin was doing his best to reach her living room's window, waiting patiently for her to get in and open the way for him. Vee's mind was a blur as they headed for the bathroom, her thoughts completely locked on the bloodied bandages. Holding them gave her pause - so close to her goal.
"Are you sure you're alright?" rose up Donnie's voice.
Her gaze shot back up to him, quickly nodding.
"I'll go get scissors to help cut the new bandages," she simply answered, already disappearing towards the kitchen.
She had to think fast. Knowing she had to preserve the small sample, Vee quickly fumbled around and reached for a tupperware, throwing the bloodied gauze and medical tape in, sealing it shut and hurrying to hide it at the back of her refrigerator. Closing the door, this sudden wave of relief hit her - any and all pent up stress finally fading away. The weight of everything that happened finally fell on her shoulders, a light shaking invading her limbs, and most specifically her knees and hands. Reaching for a pair of scissors in a kitchen drawer, she also grabbed a glass of water - a further excuse for her absence.
Heading back to the bathroom, Vee found the mutant observing his wound in the mirror, already at the task of washing it (and wincing slightly).
"How are you going to explain that to your family?" asked the woman, placing the scissors on the small sink counter.
"Cut myself on sharp metal, trying to fix something on the truck. S'not the first time it happened anyway - but not as deep."
He handed her a piece of cotton soaked with an antiseptic liquid.
"Pat that around the wound, please."
Vee carefully took the piece after discarding her glass to the side, next trying to calm her hands as she placed her free one around a safe space on his shoulder, the other carefully tapping the piece on his scales. She focused on the feel of his skin, sensing his arm's muscles twitch ever so slightly whenever she got too close to the wound's opening - alongside his patient moves as he prepared the next steps of his care. He next tasked Vee to apply some ointement while he prepared the needed length of bandages.
All of this executed in cooperative silence, Vee could only smile faintly, feeling this easiness between them; this sensation that they truly were a team now. The terrapin noticed her features softening, a quiet chuck leaving him:
"What are you thinking about?"
The woman's motions slowed, eyes crossing Donnie's.
"We make a good team."
His gaze appeared tender, his whole self warming with this simple sentence. Vee gestured for him to hand over the bandages, starting to wrap him up.
"I suspect you had to protect yourself against the Foot while I was trying to reach you," spoke Donnie, changing the subject only to get himself out of this inner puppy-eyed reverie. "How did that go?"
Vee sighed, continuing her task: "Let's just say I was mostly lucky," she started. "Back when I was a kid I had some boxing lessons with my dad, but that feels like forever ago..."
"Huh! You never really mentionned anything about your family before. Do you still talk to them?"
The faint frown on the woman's features was already a good indication.
"... Let's not talk about that right now, if you don't mind."
"Noted."
The terrapin swiftly moved the subject around once more, a smile on his lips.
"Raph was wrong then; you can indeed be a physical menace!"
Vee was back into that similar amusement: "Oh, please, I would absolutely still be obliterated by him if I were to try to fight that wall of a turtle. ... I'm certain I could even lose against you."
"We can test that out, sometime," added Donnie with a smirk.
As Vee finished securing the bandage, she lightly slapped over it, making the turtle wince one last time.
"We'll see about that," she simply answered with a stick out of her tongue.
The woman proceeded next to her living room and computer, tasking herself with plugging her key containing any information she'd been able to snatch from their excursion. The tall turtle followed suit, rolling his right shoulder lightly only to get accustomed to the faint pain as quick as possible. Skimming through the data, Vee noticed that most of the files were targeting blood samples. Apart from the usual types and various metrics, some more digging revealed mentions of 'animal ancestors', which instantly grabbed Donnie's attention. Standing behind and slightly hunching over the woman sitting in her chair, the mutant took hold of the mouse, taking control of the search. To be surrounded by his form, Vee felt the faintest of blush invade her cheeks - being reminded of how small she appeared alongside him.
"Do me a favor and search the term 'mutation'," he asked. "I'd do it myself, but your keyboard's too small for my stupid fat fingers."
That brought a quick amused snort out of Vee, pressing the ctrl and F keys, then searching for the requested term. Some results were found, a particular sentence holding their attention:
As per the client's information, animal ancestry may play a key role into the test subject's mutation after being subjugated to the purple substance. Two successful specimens are known and alive, currently out of reach. Samples are yet to be distributed for further research. Tentative recreations are still ongoing.
"Tentative recreations?" read back Vee, puzzled.
"They're trying to recreate the purple ooze..." clarified Donatello. "And with Bebop and Rocksteady still locked up, they can't access their blood and extract the substance."
He straightened up, sighing as he pinched between his eyes, under his glasses, grumbling next: "They want to mutate people again, of course they wanna do that...."
"Do you think they'd be able to do that from scratch? Why would they want to mutate people, anyway?"
He looked back at Vee, the woman still trying to read more on the matter. The terrapin's hands gently landed on her shoulders, his thumbs petting the nape of her neck slowly, thinking. That motion seemed to ease Vee's tension, sensing her muscles relax and her posture slacking ever so slightly.
"There could be many reasons," started the turtle. "Knowing the Foot Clan, they'd most certainly want to add more muscles to their organization. Ever since Shredder disappeared after Krang's invasion, they've been more reckless on certain operations..." His next thoughts pained him a little. "And if they're really trying to recreate the purple ooze, I can only hope they are not experimenting on human subjects already.... the cases about missing people makes sense now and I'm starting to fear the worse."
Donnie's hands moved along her shoulders and over her arms, hunching over her once more only to nuzzle her hair in gratitude.
"Thank you for grabbing that information, it's a step in the right direction."
"I assume you want a copy of it?"
"Yes please," mumbled the turtle, still nuzzling her hair.
He would have to do a thorough review of the documents, knowing he would need to regroup all the intel and let his family be aware of it. ... Donnie felt cheap for having to take all the credit in front of them, when he'd much prefer to reveal it all with Vee alongside him.
Gear back in place and ready to go, the terrapin was stopped by the window, Vee's hands against his arm and scales. She took a moment to observe his features, as if wanting to burn this image into her mind.
"I didn't say thanks," she simply stated first. "... Thank you for saving me back there. I don't know what would've happened if you didn't jump after me. I-..."
The mutant's smile was sweet, instinctively bringing a hand to cup her cheek.
"That's my job; saving people and this city."
"Even unlawful information brokers like me?" added Vee, joking lightly.
"Even more so..." he answered in a heartbeat.
In a natural gesture Donnie came nearer, leaving a faint kiss to her forehead. Both with their eyes closed, they remained close, basking into this serene proximity.
"I'd never let anything or anyone hurt you..." he murmured.
She trusted those words. She knew he was speaking the absolute truth and once more, she could only feel this relief by standing at his side.
Saying goodbye felt a bit heartbreaking that night. The terrapin said that he'd keep Vee informed as best as he could, as soon as possible. ... The woman had a faint hope it'd be tomorrow - yet that was only infatuation speaking at this very moment.
...
Alone once more in her apartment, Vee took a moment to watch the garbage truck disappear into the night. She surprised herself with a long sigh, this cold sensation invading her body all of a sudden. That reminded her of her fridge, her attention snapping to it and already making a beeline to her small kitchen area. Opening the door once more, she spotted the tupperware far in the back, it's bloodied content still present. ... Closing it, she pondered her next course of action. The sample may be too poor and small to be actually handed to her mysterious client. She would definitely need to up her game if she wanted to grab something of greater value. Yet, now something was starting to sprout in the depths of her mind, starting to wonder what was actually planned for such sample of such extraordinairy blood.
For now she would safekeep this forbidden treasure, hoping she wouldn't need to hold onto it for too long...

Pretty good answers! :D
1: since being half-aliens, have they ever been treated “differently”? (Like the x-men/mutants in marvel)
2: how did they get into Dragonball? I say Kon & Tim introduced it to them (plus Jon)
3: how does one become a member of the titans of tomorrow/Star Knights?
4: what’s their opinion on the Netflix adaption of avatar the last airbender?
5: what’s their bedrooms look like? (I know Jake’s)
6: what does the members of titans of tomorrow/starknights look like? (Besides the duo & mar’i) do you use canon appearances?
Thanks Man, it’s really appreciated @pin-crusher2000 👍
1) While on the whole the two are respected quite well and even have some popularity at their respective schools, even now and then, especially in their earlier elementary school days, they would get picked on by some bullies for their little quirks as pertained by their origin points. Sure when in the field as heroes they can get intense scrutiny and even some bigotry based on their alien and technically mutant trait, it’s not really a thing that truly affects them as they’ve faced it beforehand and it really doesn’t matter as much as their real angsts in life
2) Oh my beyond doubt it was Kon and Jon to an extent that introduced the Duo to Dragon Ball, mainly after Jon got a manga volume of the original series when he was shopping for Naruto ones. Chris was interested in it so Jon went ahead to get it for his big brother and shortly then Jake looked up the original series online and once the two were able to sit and watch the series from there, the Duo’s fandom began in earnest.
3) Initiation comes with first proving yourself a trustworthy, reliable and honest type of hero that wants to hang out with them, basically earning their friendship which isn’t too hard. Honestly, both teams aren’t necessarily strict nor they ever relied on tests or the like unless the newest recruit requests them. That being said if you wanna be a true permanent member a lot faster for the StarKnights in particular, you are dared to spend a day wearing a blue and pink tutu and later last through eating there entire bowls of Brussels sprouts.
4) At first Chris and Jake were genuinely enthusiastic as the look of the show and the effects promised something that would be faithful in its own way to the show that started it all. Overtime though with each new announcement made to change the story and character details which are true deviations from the source material, that enthusiasm quickly gave way to caution and weariness. They can only hope it’s not as bad as that live action movie which was the first attempt at adapting that show.
5) I picture Chris having redwood hardwood floors couple with orange carpets and rugs laid out all over, his Queen sized bed next to the window, two glass sliding doors for his closet, a small two shelves dresser next to said bed, drawers and cabinets on the opposite side of the bed which on top of one is his TV and video game consoles, his action figures, and even a Straight Ally flag. At one empty corner would be his electric Bass Guitar and inside the closet and dresser are his comic books. Finally in the bed itself, he has a grey and white comforter which is topped by his favorite Sky Blue Blanket with an S Shield on it.
6) Well, for Jasper Logan in particular since he’s an OC created by an old mutual of mine and a fan art, this link here should help you get a visual on what he looks like
Otherwise, fudging with the ages a bit, the StarKnights and the Titans of Tomorrow have their physical appearances based on canonical forms. Only tiny change I can think of being for Irey and Jai having Dark Yellow and Lime Green respectively as part of their super suits to help distinguish them.

Review: Claremont’s Final Chapter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well this is it. This is the last review I’m going to write for this blog. It covers the last chunk of Chris Claremont’s original run on Uncanny X-Men, along with the crossovers and spinoffs that accompany it. I was thinking that this was going to be a lot more comics, because I completely forgot that I already wrote a review covering the big three X-Men crossovers from the 1980s (Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, and Inferno). How does that happen? How do I just completely forget that I did bunch of work on a review that’s barely two years old? I’ll tell ya how. Early onset Alzheimer’s. Or maybe I’m busy and not as focused on this blog as I used to be. Nowadays it’s all I can do to keep my queue from emptying out while doing one post a day. I’m a shadow of my former hilarious self. But I still want to tie a bow on what I’ve been doing here for the past seven years, and I guess that’s kind of what this is. I set out with a goal, to read every X-Men comic ever written. How that was to be defined, I didn’t know, but at the very least it was going to include everything up to the end of Claremont’s big run, which I have now accomplished. I’m anxious to keep reading, but I think I’m done writing for now, and maybe indefinitely. I dunno. I haven’t decided yet and I don’t want to speak in absolutes. Only a Sith speaks in absolutes.
Tumblr media
I mean how am I gonna be reading this and not be sprinting to my blog to shit post about it. It’s just not possible. I can’t call my mom and troll. “Yeah ma and then they did that shit where they smash the cake in each other’s faces and I puked all over everything! No ma, this was in a comic! A comic!”
For posterity sake, this reading and review cover the following:
Uncanny X-Men #244-279 New Mutants #74-100 X-Factor #40-70 Excalibur #8-25 X-Force #1-4 X-Men Volume 2 #1-3 Days of Future Present Crossover Kings of Pain Crossover
This collection of comics is the most nostalgic for me. I didn’t start collecting Uncanny X-Men until around issue #250. I was a late comer. I had already missed the best stuff. But the X-Men were still at the top of their game, and this particular run represents the exact set of comics that captivated me as a child. I’m biased toward them. This is generally considered to be the weakest part of Chris Claremont’s 17 year long run, but I cannot find the objectivity to agree with this statement. And during this reading, where I actually got to read everything that lead up to this point in time for the X-Men instead of being cluelessly dropped into the middle of it and not even knowing how to pronounce a lot of the characters names, I found these stories to be even more enjoyable.
Tumblr media
When I was a kid, I thought Psylocke was pronounced Pisey-locke. I thought Rogue was Roe-goo. One of my older brother’s friends heard me saying that shit and he laughed his ass off at me.
Tell me what’s wrong with this story. The X-Men have become legends, both in story and in real world pop culture, but then their team is decimated. Storm is killed. Colossus, Rogue, Psylocke, Havok, and Dazzler are consumed by Siege Perilous. Wolverine is captured and broken by an alliance of villains he personally carved into cyborgs during his previous adventures. And Longshot is . . . well nobody remembers what happened to Longshot. And with growing threats rising from all over the world, it’s left to the X-Men’s fourth string, students, and attendants to continue the fight. This was a dire time for the comic, and I think for many it deviated too far from what they had grown comfortable with. These characters were real for a lot of people, and they had been scattered, their family destroyed. There was a sense of tragedy and trauma. A great loss of safety and security for characters that were written so intimately they felt like close friends you visited once a month. But I loved it. These were my first X-Men stories. I was only beginning to form my bonds with these characters, and that process was aided by the narrative drive to see them reunited. For a kid in the 4th grade, this was Shakespearian.
And then Jim Lee came along and ruins everything.
Tumblr media
No I didn’t cover the swimsuit issue. I mean, this is it. Here, I’m covering it. Look, Logan’s a never nude.
I mean, how can I say that. I actively concede that Jim Lee is the best X-Men artist. And that comes after years of maintaining this blog and meticulously reading every X-Men comic that was released, and falling in love with the work of Barry Windsor Smith.
Tumblr media
Bill Sienkiewicz
Tumblr media
Paul Smith.
Tumblr media
Marc Silvestri.
Tumblr media
And John Byrne was ok I guess.
Tumblr media
In my opinion, as much as I love all those other artists, none of them can touch Jim Lee’s work on X-Men. They are all phenomenally gifted, but Jim Lee was somehow transcendent on a whole other level. And when his talent swirled with the particular aesthetic of the Uncanny X-Men, magic happened. Something new came into existence that permanently imprinted itself onto our pop culture.
Tumblr media
From the characters themselves to crazy alien space-tech, you just can’t beat Jim Lee.
How is it then, that these were the comics, the last issues of Claremont’s run, that killed my interest in the series when I was younger? Claremont was still writing the scripts, but it was clear that something catastrophic had happened behind the scenes. Something was terribly broken. And as much as I wanted to assume that it was all in my head, that there couldn’t have been any hurt feelings because Claremont would return some day, and he would even go on to work with Jim Lee again on other projects, I’m pretty sure that’s not the case. I just watched the Comics In Focus documentary about Chris Claremont, and he tearfully describes his feelings at the time as being “betrayed.” You can feel that in the writing, and it does not make for good entertainment. The final few issues of this run are conflicted and strained, and tedious in their pacing. So unlike the effortless storytelling the series had become known for.
Reading these comics again all these years later brings back memories of why I quit collecting in the first place. By the very end of Chris Claremont’s run, after his narrative plans had been derailed by Jim Lee and their editors, the Uncanny X-Men weren’t stunning anymore. They didn’t stick in my brain and leave me awake at night with a mind full of wonder. They only left me with apathy. This is in contrast to how I felt when I first started reading the series and every issue was a revelation. But I can distinctly remember attempting to read X-Force #1 a second time, searching for some hook to keep me engaged, and there was nothing there. It was an empty, shallow experience that made me question whether I had outgrown the hobby. X-Men Volume 2 reinforced those concerns.
Tumblr media
“The writer.” He can’t even be bothered to invoke his name. I’m just going to transcribe this part of the documentary and make some observations. “Comics were boring. Even Marc Silvestri, he’ll admit, he got bored.” This motherfucker thinks the X-Men were just dull as shit until he came along and saved the whole fucking thing. JFC. “Marc had already done the book for like, four or five years. And, but it’s not a job you, you don’t leave that job. It’s the best-selling comic.” This motherfucker thinks THE BEST SELLING COMIC, THE COMIC MORE PEOPLE WERE READING THAN ANY OTHER COMIC IN EXISTENCE was boring until he came along and saved the whole fucking thing. “And the writer had been on it for 15 years. You don’t think he’s burned out?” No Rob, it’s clear he wasn’t burnt out, and you deprived us of another 3-5 years of amazing comics. “It was like hey, the X-Men girls go shopping.” Hey I liked that issue. “In the next issue, the guys go to the mall.” That didn’t even happen! You drew that god damned book and you can’t even remember what it was about!! “And you’re like, this isn’t the X-Men I grew up loving! Where’s Magneto, where’s the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants!? Where’s the stuff that’s gonna psyche me out?” Oh, like fucking Strife and Strobe and Thumbellina? Did that shit psyche you out Rob??
I have given up on X-Men three different times in my life. The first was in 1992, a direct result of the conflict that arose between Claremont and these idiot artists who would stick around for less than a year for abandoning the franchise completely, leaving it in shambles. Looking back at my collection, I made it to issue #7 of X-Men Volume 2 and I was done. The buildup to Onslaught brought me back in 1996, in particular the famous cover proclaiming someone had stopped the Juggernaut which I found in a back issue bin. But I did not last long, only seeing that storyline through and losing interest again by the time Heroes Reborn got underway and it was clear that the clowns in charge didn’t actually have any interesting story ideas past the initial Onslaught concept. Finally, in 2001 it was the one-two punch of Grant Morrison’s new X-Men and Claremont’s own X-Treme X-Men that brought me back one more time. And this time I stuck with it for a good 10 years before a combination of Brian Michael Bendis and Marvel’s agenda to bury the X-Men killed my interest in modern X-Men comics to this day.
Tumblr media
I could not stand the idea of the original teenage X-Men becoming the main characters again. There was no blander, more basic concept in my opinion. Other than that shit Rob Liefeld came up with in X-Force.
Despite this on again off again relationship, the X-Men have always been with me. I have always wanted to stay engaged with what was going on in their lives. And that led to the creation of this blog. I wanted to start reading again, but the only way to do that was to start at the beginning and go from there. And I’ve loved reading almost every comic I read for this blog. Analyzing and summarizing each issue allowed me to recreate the experience of reading these comics as a kid, when I read each comic 5 or 6 times through the course of the month as I anticipated the release of the next and finally moved on. That reading pace is very hard to emulate in the age of collected editions, where we might instead read several issues in a single sitting and never look back again. It’s a completely different experience.
But going forward, I don’t think it’s going to be so important. I’m not going to want to linger on Scott Lobdell’s writing, or Rob Liefeld’s garbage artwork. I’m not going to want to struggle to think of something interesting to say about comics I’m apathetic toward. I’m going to keep reading, but I don’t know to what extent, if any, I’ll comment on them here.
Tumblr media
Again, I don’t know how I’m going to be reading this shit and not need someone to talk to about it. So don’t completely give up on me.
I recently read through Sandman for the first time, in tandem with reading X-Men comics for this blog. It was obviously very good, but it was also very dense and challenging, and it took forever since I was splitting my comic book time with blog tasks. Then I finally read the deluxe volumes of Saga I’ve owned for years but haven’t had time to read. Compared to Sandman they were a light, breezy walk through a sunny, petal soaked field. It made me excited to read some more of the independent books I've collected over the years. Oh and there’s also these.
Tumblr media
I’m way overdue here. I bought all these books and have yet to crack any them open. But every single day they call to me. But of course I can’t start with these. I’m going to read Hickman’s Fantastic Four first, and then his Avengers, and then Secret Wars, and THEN I’ll read these. The time has come for me to start reading modern X-Men again.
In case you can’t tell, this review is also serving as a retrospective for this blog in general. Sorry to spring that on you. I really, really appreciate those who read along with me, corrected my mistakes, offered better insights than I could come up with, and explained the shit that went straight over my head. It wasn’t like reading these comics in a vacuum like I did when I was a kid. It was like being part of an awesomely nerdy reading group. I appreciated every single like and comment you made, and those who stuck with me for an extended period. I saw every engagement you made, even if that wasn’t obvious. I don’t know if this will be my last post, but this is it for now. Thanks everyone.

Wifi's (and friend) Ultimate Turtle Journey: Mirage Volume 1 skip list.
Have you ever started to get into a really popular media that you know next to nothing about? And the amount of ingrained cultural knowledge and predisposed popular opinions to have about it all left you all discombobulated? Did you then decide the best way to handle that was to go through all the media in as chronological an order as possible?
Well. Hi! I (and my companion in turtledom) did that with every cartoon, movie, anime ova, touring musical production and educational VHS we could find of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But now plumb out of media of the moving picture sort, it was time to get into comics.
This is not a list trying to make you read mirage, nor will it be a "just the good plot stuff" list. Those already exist! This is list for anyone also taking a maximalist approach to enjoying art, and letting the ideas of the people who make it flow over you. I think friction in consumption of art can be really interesting. But I will try and give you context for what that friction might be, and the lines I drew about no longer thinking something was worth my time (I never skipped tho i did occasional skim >_>). SO! Lets get too it!
Mirage 1-11, and the character micros (named after each character, published in order: Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello and Leonardo)
This is the "core text" as it were. Obviously read it. This is probably what you need if you want to get into fights on the internet too. I might recommend a pit stop to read Eastman and Laird Fugitoid, maybe after issue 4. Issue 8 is a crossover issue. You could read the micros however but read no. 9, then Leo, then 10.
#12-18 are, brace yourself. Filler. Oh the terror. I think mostly good! 12-15 all got adapted into 03 episodes. Here's the break down.
#19-21: Return to New York
#12 - A Laird turtle romp, has good character work, action.
#13 - A guest issue, but Michael Dooney's best imho, makes sense chronologically and in tone. Women's depiction in comics Advisory warning.
#14 - An Eastman turtle romp, cute Casey and April stuff, a favourite of mine.
#15 - Laird again, and adventure again. good art.
#16 - A guest issue, Mark Martin, also his strongest imho. Not very chronologically based (a time travel plot in fact) but I'd recommend this even to people who don't read mirage.
#17 - Eric Talbot, kinda of a guest issue, within its own text, non canonical, but cute. Mikey focused.
#18 - Guest issue, Mark Bodé. The plot is. Anti MSG messaging? Turtles go to China. Really truly, you can skip this.
Yes again, obviously you should read these. I like them so much. Brothers! Feelings! Murder! Its the works.
Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1-7
Probably not were they go by publication date, but for simplicity... Lighter, easy read comics, all of them were adapted into 03 btw. I say read em, I saved them up for when mainline got too vexing. But probably at least read 4 [I, monster] and 6 [Leatherhead].
#22-48. Yes, most of em. Are "the guest era". But painting this large a chunk with the same skip or dont skip brush is beyond the pale. Some of the best and worst of Mirage is in here. Lets break it down.
#22-23. Sequels to #16. Not as strong, much weirder. But if you wanted more. You've got it. Has one gag I really like, and one I really don't.
#24-26. Rich Veitch's river saga. THE frictional art of frictional art. Emotional arc for the turtles, political and spiritual messaging. Advisory Warning for depiction of an Indigenous (Of an Algonquian tribe, probably Abenaki?) character and themes of colonialism, lots of offensive language used tho also, pro land back? Mysticism abound. If you read it, lets talk!
#27 Michael Dooney, a revisit of characters from Tales of TMNT, Radical and Carnage. Now in a... spiritual battle involved in (I believe, Lakota) religion. Stuff to chew on maybe, less offensive langauge but also maybe less to say. Dooney's treatment of women hints to a pattern.
#28 Written by Stephen Murphy and with art by Jim Lawson, makes this technically canonical, and regardless. Introspective and emotional. SO FUCKING GOOD. Also an 03 episode.
#29. AC Farley, read it for the art alone. Wild plot, fun romp.
#30. Rich Veitch again, cars! the grotesque! Highway culture. Very strange, pretty fun.
#31. Mike Zuilli and Stephen Murphy. This is truly, an AU. Continued in #35-36 (Sans Murphy). Maybe interesting to check out? Weird ass hell, maybe not in a good way? The strangest Splinter and Shredder. Mysticism, ofc. 36 Does end interestingly at least.
#32 Mark Bodé again, April and a female friend in Egypt. Cursed mummies, bad outfits. Truly skipable. (Also side bar: If someone told you this is the Only issue were April is drawn as Black or ambiguous. I Disagree. Lot of artists drew her in a lot of ways)
#33. Richard Corben. Silly turtles time travel. Cute, though the art might have given me motion sickness???
#34. Rich Hedden & Tom McWeeney. This is a Parody of the TMNT. Also not very funny. Also depicts a man having delusions and the shooting himself. (As comedy. of course. and its still not funny). Extremely skippable, though despite myself, the shots were said man sees the world populated with turtle mutants are kinda nice.
#35-36. See 31.
Phew. Done. #50-62 is the City At War arc, and finale of Mirage vol. 1. Read it! And good luck skipping any of it, it's like. 5 parallel story lines across 13 issues.
#37 Rick McCollum and Bill Anderson. I. ADORE. This issue. On the record have been singing its praises. Extremely characterful of the turtles, a reptile specific spiritual journey. Sequel to a mini "Donatello: The Ring", from Turtle Soup #2.
#38-40. Hedden and McWeeney again, this time, hornier. Still not funny. SKIPPPPPP.
#41. Matt Howarth. A look into the turtles, and Splinters, dreams. Just a cute little comic.
#42. McCollum and Anderson. Pretty good, an immortal witch summons ghosts of famous people to do her bidding (kidnap the turtles!). Mild advisory for women's depictions in comics, at least their drawn cooler... I like their Renet actually.
#43. Paul Jenkins and A.C. Farley. More of that good art! Donnie in his FEELINGS. Wild premise.
#44. Rick Arthur. Sequel to "The Name is Lucindra" Turtle soup vol 2. Raph gets a female sparring partner. There's maybe some feelings involved? its fine.
#45. Dan Berger. The return of Leatherhead! Probably canonical? I like it!
#46-47. Michael Dooney. A plot thread from #9 gets picked up. The turtles time travel to feudal Japan to stop a bad guy. Doesn't get more classic that that. Dooney's depiction of women goes turbo nuclear with this tho. Renet is less garbed than very and being man handled A lot.
#48-49 You have reached normal continuity by mirage regulars again. Casey Jones has a moral quandary of vigilantism. Return of Nobody from Tales of the TMNT. The turtles say some based shit about cops.
And that's pretty much it! I'm not skip listing all the side content cause i haven't read it yet and also. If your the kinda sicko who wants to read Mirage's Gobbledygook, Grunts, Turtle Soup or Plastron Cafe... What would you need a skip list for?
Wow! Now that's really it! You did it! Catch me next time when I finally know what the fuck happened with the rest of Mirage's publishing! Or what the hell is up with image comics? Or maybe those darn adventure comics from Archie.

5. “I wish I had the blue.”
“My least coherent thoughts of the episode are probably about the dorm room sequence which begins with Willow struggling to keep it together. We haven’t spent very much time in the dorms but it was around this point in the series where I started to wonder ‘Where is Miss Kitty Fantasico?’. There are so many cool details here but before getting into any of them, the most obvious thing that still needs to be said anyway is Alyson Hannigan’s performance is wonderful. I well up the second she starts talking every single time. But the writing for Willow’s character here is terrific. Both she and Xander share Buffy’s fixation on the small details they can control and both fit within the bounds of their metaphorical relationship to her.
Willow - the metaphorical Spirit - is grief and empathy run amuck. The moment when she remembers Dawn and what she must be going through crushes me. And Willow’s fixation in the sequence is on what she’s going to wear. Trying to find the perfect, most compassionate, most supportive outfit to wear for the day. This makes perfect sense as the expression of how Willow would try and deal with her pain.
Going back to ‘Restless’e’s’ exploration of her subconscious we saw the way in which the First Slayer reduced Willow to her most vulnerable was by stripping away the fashion she’d adopted in later high school and college as she gained confidence. Clothing is a vital part of safety and identity for Willow. Even if we saw in ‘Restless’ that a part of her still worries clothes hide her authentic self rather than help reveal it. And there’s a wonderful motif with colour here and her obsession over an article of clothing she can’t find.
Oz left in ‘Wild At Heart’. Two episodes later in ‘Something Blue’ Willow casts a spell to try and manifest her desire to get over him. That episode title’s most direct connection is to Buffy and Spike and the traditional rhyme which says that a bride on her wedding day should have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. But as with most Mutant Enemy episodes, titles often have a few interpretations and within English folklore, the purpose of the ‘something blue’ was to ward off the Evil Eye. A curse brought on by a malevolent glare usually given to a person when one is unaware. The Evil Eye is an iconic symbol present across various religions and cultures. But most importantly - witchcraft. So in ‘Something Blue’, Willow, sans an Oz, is manifesting the Evil Eye. It’s a neat structure I missed back in Season 4 but caught by accident when watching ‘The Body’ when I realized that Willow, at this point in her life, has her ‘something blue’ to ward off the Evil Eye. It’s Tara, who is wearing principally blue throughout the episode.
I wish I had more to say about Willow and Tara’s kiss. It is one of the most significant cultural events of the episode - about which volumes have been written. Definitely not the first queer kiss on TV, if still the first that many got to see - Tara and Willow were remarkable for other reasons. Willow’s sexuality was typically played as a footnote to her character rather than the feature. And she and Tara had a protracted, long-term same-sex relationship that was as complex as any the straight characters had. And their intimacy wasn’t played as headline-grabbing, sweeps week fodder or for controversy. The kiss is not even featured in the original promos. It’s just here. A rare moment of warmth and light in a tapestry of grief. 20 years on, there may be a lot to say about how long it took to get here or about problems yet to come but THIS moment… this moment is gorgeous.
Xander was once able to explain to Riley that, after her mother’s diagnosis, Buffy was distant because she was looking for a problem she could hit. I think he has that insight as her metaphorical Heart. And, as the Heart, his reaction to Joyce’s death is to do the same - find the one responsible and go after them. And I love the beat where Willow helps put him at peace.
Anya’s inability to read social cues and escalating inappropriate questions leads to her monologue which, I know, is precious to many people. Everyone in the episode reads as being at a different stage along their own journey with loss, with Anya and Tara as the bookends to it. It’s never really clear how the vengeance demon transition worked exactly. But whether because vengeance demons are soulless, insulated from their feelings, or just don’t have any, Anya is essentially having the toddler’s experience of death. She’s been human for right around 2 years now. Hers is the naked perspective of the episode. Everyone grasping for understanding and answers in darkness doomed to remain a mystery until they each pass into it.
Unable to find a better culprit close by, Xander decides to hold the wall responsible for what’s happening. Though everyone chastizes him for it, they all look relieved to have something else to focus on. To emphasize that focus the camera hangs on his bloody hand for a second or two longer than normal. Xander almost smiles - physical pain offering a relief from the emotional. And, as the Avengers gear up to assemble, Willow, now recovered from her tail spin and with other people to focus on, mouths ‘I love you’ to Tara.”
I knew that if there was anyone that could even come close to truly capturing the visceral experience that is ‘The Body’ - and therefore it’s pure brilliance - through the written and spoken word, it would be TPN. He has, of course, picked up on pretty much all the character details I did when I wrote my BUFFY REWATCH recap for ‘The Body’. Mentioning each specific Scooby character’s reaction to the death of Joyce Summers in the way he did put emphasis on the raw and real aspects of character representation and development that is woven so cleverly and seamlessly within a narrative that has you only ever focus on the negative space around a loved one’s passing rather than the person that died themselves. How it affects everybody else in both intimate and non-intimate connection to Joyce is what makes ‘The Body’ stand out among the myriads of other brave attempts in TV to capture the experience of death, grief and loss. I knew only Ian could truly do it because he doesn’t ever actually talk about ‘The Episode’. He only ever talks about the universal EXPERIENCE of the episode for all that watch it. And that’s the best way to talk about ‘The Body’ because the true genius of it is that it’s an incredibly in-depth character study that’s not about the character that died at all. Because if it was about that, the episode would be called ‘Joyce’ instead of ‘The Body’ and we wouldn’t get such gut-punching realistic and accurate reactions from the Scoobies that wallop me to the fucking floor every time I attempt to watch them.
I have been patiently waiting for this specific BUFFY GUIDE episode essay to drop for years. TPN absolutely fucking NAILED IT. But of course I knew he would. There was no way he wouldn’t when he is so passionate about the learning process in watching his most favourite art/entertainment as I am. Only deciding to drop it now feels like a Christmas present.
Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🌲🤶🎅🧑‍🎄🎁💝✝️

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #140
JUNE 2023
BY SOPHIE CAMPBELL, KEVIN EASTMAN, GAVIN SMITH, RONDA PATTISON AND RUSS WOOTON
Tumblr media
After the Armageddon Game, they turtles find themselves in a new kind of society where mutants no longer have to hide. And as they try to figure out what they want to do with their lives, something or someone is killing mutants.
Tumblr media
SCORE: 9
When Mutant Town started, I said I felt this was a complete callback to TMNT volume 4. And here we are, pretty much in a world where mutants, aliens and humans can live together.
But of course, this brings a lot of writing decisions to make. After all, fans will not be happy with "ninja turtles get day jobs and live their own lives".
However, I am under the impression that... that is exactly where this is going.
Tumblr media
Michelangelo wants to do some money so he can travel the country like Seri... and he may end up in a relationship with her, unless something completely unpredictable happens to her.
Donatello seems fascinated by the future (all the stuff with Venus and Armaggon).
Leonardo is also still interested in the future, as he is heading into creating a crime-fighting clan, like in the Archie comics.
Tumblr media
And Raphael... has been arrested after being found next to the newest mutant victim.
Tumblr media
It doesn't take too much imagination to figure out who the killer is. Having said that, the red dot in the middle looks like this may not be simply who he looks like (but I am sure it is him).
On the other hand, the weasels are still alive, so... I guess Man Ray is probably alive too? We'll see...
I love the new artist. I really loved one of the covers he made in the past and now here he is, and it looks pretty good.
Some things are maybe... a bit too different. The turtles look a little taller, and April looks a little older. But other than that I really like his style.
So will there be a Claw Ninja Clan? How many ninja clans are in this story now?
We have the Splinter clan (which I assume will be Leonardo's clan as well), we have the Claw clan (which doesn't exactly roll of the tongue), and there is still the Foot clan (but those are who knows where). I am pretty sure all clans will become one in the future.
So I don't know... I can already feel the fanboys crying, but there is potential here. I just hope it doesn't take two years to tell the next chapter.

YALL READY FOR MY END OF THE YEAR TIER LIST FOR THE TOP 5 HYPERFIXATIONS I HAD THIS YEAR??? LETS GOOOOOO
Honorary Mentions
Taylor Swift
Jujutsu Kaisen
Frieren
Demon Slayer
5: FNaF
We got a lot of fnaf content this year and I was obsessed with it. So obsessed, that I was to invested in consuming this content that I hardly ever posted about it.
I love this franchise so much. I've been invested in the lore, games, books, and YouTube videos since it came out. I love everything about this franchise.
4: One Piece
As a long time One Piece fan, I gotta say my burn out for this anime was coming. Then I heard about the Netflix adaptation and that they were crunching the entire East Blue Arcs into 8 episodes... I was scared.
Then I watched it and it reignited my fire for this. I even started rewatching the anime so I knew what was next to come. Not only that, but my sister got into the show cause of the live action and we're watching it together.
Not only that, but we also got to the end of the Wano Arc! One Piece's longest arc yet and I loved every second of it. They really turned up everything for this arc and I am here for it.
WE ALSO GOT THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE REMAKE ANIME BY WIT STUDIOS!! I am so hyped for this. To see the story be told with better pacing, less filler, and maybe they can make Skypia bearable to watch /j.
3: Fionna and Cake
I was so ready for this show. When I learned about it I was so confused. Like, yall are making a spin off about filler episodes??
I always loved Fionna and Cake so I wasn't upset but confused. Then I watched it and fell in love. Seeing all the characters and where they are now after the almost end of the world and then falling in love with the new characters.
Everything about this show was amazing to me and i cannot wait for season 2.
2: Heartstopper
Those who know me know that I am obsessed with Heartstopper and the Osemanverse as a whole. These characters are so amazing to me and I love all of them so much.
We got season 2 of Heartstopper out on Netflix and we also got the release of volume 5! Season 3 completed its filming and we got to see the actor playing Michael Holden! Heartstopper fans have been feasting this year.
Nick and Charlie are some of my favorite characters of all time and I cannot wait to see where this goes in the future.
1: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Let's be honest, if you didn't expect this to be number one then you don't know me lol. Tmnt is the whole reason I started this blog so I could freely blab about my hyperfixations without fear.
And the tmnt community has been fed this year with content. Not only did we get the new tmnt movie (WHICH WAS INCREDIBLE AND AMAZING AND I LOVED IT SM) but we also have some of the best aus and fanfictions out there in my opinion. Tmnt has taken over tumblr for the past couple years and it's been crazy. So, I would like to share my favorite aus and fanfictions of tmnt from the past year
Cass Apocalyptic Series by @somerandomdudelmao
Celestial AU by @ashwii
Like Father Like Son by @eternalglitch
EW AU and Feral!Leo AU by @cupcakeslushie
These are a very limited few of the tmnt fanfics and aus out there. I gave myself a cut off of five and these were the first ones that came to mind otherwise I would sit here all day listing off aus and fanfics.
