yk something I find interesting is how Castiel became "Cas" to the other angels. we know he became Cas so quickly to the boys, but don't angels always call each other their full names? yet, Anna (and I think the ones at the playground) called him Cas

if there's one thing this last episode has affirmed for me about Alastor it's that he FUCKING HATES being reminded that he's not the most powerful creature in hell.

He hates Lucifer ON SIGHT

He threatens to KILL Husk when he dares to mention that Alastor is working for someone more powerful than him

and now this.

Alastor freaking out because he almost died. Something almost killed him. He can fucking die. There is something more powerful than him out there. And it's not something he can ignore or brush off because it almost killed him.

Alastor hates the reminder that he's not as powerful as he tells people he is. He isn't indestructible, he isn't invincible. And he fucking hates that.

anyway fhhdhfnd!!! apologies for the long tangential ramble in your askbox (although it wasn't that long this stuff is just in my brain now so maybe this isn't really very coherent at all), just having thoughts abt what it means to be diaspora. um. how to be it. etc etc. but will say i did enjoy the poppy war and also trust kuang's writing in general with their being a historian for actual, so maybe we'll see! it seems very very cool even if it might end up feeling too close for comfort

But I think I get what you mean about coherency. It's like. Such a big and amorphous concept that anytime you say one thing, there's 5 additional parts wrapped up in it secretly and left unsaid. I say I didn't have the opportunity to grow up speaking spanish when I should have, and secretly in that is also about families across borders, and how I had the privilege of better quality schools at the cost of solidarity and students with similar backgrounds for most of my schooling, and guilt about not being "mexican enough" while also not "white enough" leaving a confusing middle, etc. So it feels difficult to talk clearly about it because everything references a million other things just as complicated

This is the first work of Kuang's that I've read, but my dad had read some of her work before and likes her as an author, so after he finished he recommended and lent it to me. And I'm very glad he did because Babel was. It's difficult to put the experience into words, but the connection to some (if not all for me, for reasons I think I already said) of the topics was enlightening? I don't know how to word it, it's like a cathartic contentment. Like a sigh, but I don't know what kind. maybe of relief, maybe of exhaustion, maybe of resignation, maybe of acceptance, maybe all of the above.

I didn't know what I was going into so I'd love to read it again and really sit with it

When Izzy first walked out I was worried that he would be made into a joke that the crew would laugh at

but then he started singing and the dancing began and I realized that he wasn’t meant to be a joke at all. This is the most open and happy we’ve ever seen Izzy and the show treated it that way. Not mocking him but instead celebrating this moment.

When we talk about queer representation it’s usually just focused on queer relationships, but what I love about this episode is it shows other sides of being queer. That moment where Izzy saw Wee John doing his makeup and had a realization that he wanted that too? That is what being queer means to me. The crew singing along and cheering for him? That is what being apart of the queer community means to me.

What i love about this show is that it shows queer joy, not in a sanitized way, but in away that is messy, beautiful, and without any mockery or shame.

#the fact i expected him to be made fun of just reflects how queer people are usually presented in media #i was preparing myself for an awkward scene full of secondhand embarrassment for izzy #but then it didn’t happen.
