I did it!!!! Cramping with 1.5 miles to go my right leg was in a knot I walked a few minutes and hit the last water stop at the 24.8 mile mark. Thought under 5 hours was out of the question, but one thing about me I can endure pain. I pushed through and made it 4:57:45 official race time.. I can't thank everyone enough for supporting me. Last year Marine Corps Marathon of 6:09 was crushed. Thanks everyone for your support. 🙌🤜🤛🇺🇸❤️

Uh.
Does youTube degrade the quality of older videos? Or did I really watch this "ING New York City Marathon course video" like 55 times back in 2006 and never notice that it was filmed using an array of photo resistors duck-tapped together and hilariously sold to someone as a "camera"?
I guess ubiquitous HD video has me pretty spoiled.
IDK if I'll be able to train up to doing it, but before I didn't know if I'd run at all again.
My leg feels … interesting.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again — I love the nyc marathon. The vibes are always so good and it’s basically like a giant party across all five boroughs with music and cheering — the energy is incredible and it’s definitely one of my favorite events of the whole year. When I lived within walking distance of 4th Ave in Brooklyn, I’d always stand there for hours and cheer.
My dad used to take me to see the runners as a little kid and lift me up so I could give them high-fives. 💖 Core memory.

Marathon #3 in the books! What an incredible experience. The only time there weren’t people on both sides of the road waving signs, cheering, clapping, high-fiving, dancing, and generally being amazing was on the bridges between boroughs. Hands down the best way to see New York City.

In the greatest city in the world
It makes a little sense because it's so popular, but it's actively nuts that the NYC Marathon added a 5th wave this year at 11:30am. Combined with this weekend's weather forecast, they are basically sending people into the warmest part of the day right off the bat. And those runners are losing that much more crowd support. Sheesh!
I speak as a person who was in the last wave, Wave 4, when I ran it. I believe that was at 10:50am so I took an 8:30 ferry (I just looked it up, because of course I saved all the emails) and then sat around for a while. I think I ate 3 breakfasts. Maybe I read a magazine? Not saying that my start negatively affected my finish time, but it felt odd to train all summer running within an hour of getting up and then definitely not do that on race day.
Wonder why they've never considered going earlier with the leadoff handcycle/ wheelchair divisions... I have a sinking feeling that the reason is "television coverage" but it could be something to do with the road closures (which are massive and very spread out). There was a rumor several years back that they were considering splitting the race into TWO weekend days, and I don't love that either, but I wonder if they ever considered having the handcycle, wheelchair and elites compete a day earlier (like Atlanta did with the marathon trials in 2020). It wouldn't be the same cost because they wouldn't need to keep the roads closed as long (fasties!) though I guess the elites would miss out on some of the excitement.
Anyway, still a top-5 day in my life and absolutely worth entering the lottery for, though as long as I'm working in or around politics the timing probably wouldn't work for me (at least not in an even year!) I'll be tuning in before voter contact hours this year.

the semester starts in a few days, I feel a bit apprehensive. in the limbo between pushing and resting, my heart feels unsteady.
I have not taken a semester off since the start of COVID in 2020. it’s aggressive and I stun myself with what I’ve done working full time, recovering from a crash, even starting classes that one semester a mere few days after leaving the ICU and now marathon training. I have definitely tried my best, and I think my only goal from here to graduation is — to take it easy.
I was selected for an interview to be a CASA advocate in NYC and if it goes well I’ll devote my last year to helping littles in foster care but already wonder how I’ll respond to being in a court room.
The NYC marathon is in two months, I have surrendered any firm goals and instead am going for let’s simply celebrate I can run again. It’s wild to think I was in a wheelchair last year.
Work is settling and booming all at once, I have births for the spring already and I don’t know what this winter will bring but I have faith I’ll be able to juggle.
I’m also adopting a dog. From where I don’t know but I keep saying it hoping the right opportunity comes in the meanwhile starting a savings for the pup seems “right”.
I miss my family. I miss them in the way I miss the ocean and long for water but I don’t have the time to travel quite just yet.
It’s a really really beautiful season and I know this. I’m the luckiest always but it’s overwhelming at times.

Threw on NYC Marathon stuff again for all my friends, athletes, and followers who are currently running the 26.2 mi around New York. Fun to run with the race streaming in my headphones, and stopping every few minutes to track the almost 30 people I have on the tracker! It's always entertaining cheering on those little dots moving on the virtual map. Hope everyone is having fun out there!🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🌉🗽🏅👍
