pov: a goth dude with some whack ass bird beak mask comes up to you and asks if you want some herbs. and you, non the wiser, thinking him to be but a seller of the devil’s lettuce, say sure. he opens his coat jacket to reveal rosemary, parsley, sage, and lavender. you, being the plebeian with unbalanced humors that you are, are confused. the bird man, realizing that you are not the esteemed intellectual he perceived you to be, is disappointed. the crows watching from afar cast a disapproving gaze, for they too are not pleased. you begin to wonder, are the goths alright? and the answer is no, they’ve turned feral.

𝓟𝔩𝔞𝔤𝔲𝔢𝔠𝔬𝔯𝔢 𝔉𝔞𝔰𝔥𝔦𝔬𝔫: Basics
𝔗here is no set “rule” or “standard” plaguecore fashion. As long as you feel comfortable wearing what you like and you feel good in it (and you feel good wearing it with your mask!) then that is what is most important.
𝔗his is a somewhat a combination of what I wear that I consider thematically “plaguecore” plus what I feel translates the classic plague doctor look into a modern perspective.
𝔗his is not intended to a guide on creating a plague doctor costume/outfit, though it could help if you’re not going for exact historical or “accepted” accuracy. This is just a fun list of suggestions to incorporate elements of the aesthetic into your everyday wardrobe if it is something that would interest you or make you happy. I will probably make more thorough posts covering each category over time (and some additional details and accessories), so stay tuned.
𝔥𝔢𝔞𝔡
Wide brim hats such as sunhats, fedoras, gouchos, or boleros
Accessories popular in classic lolita fashion such as bonnets and ruffle headbands
Hats, pins or hairbands that incorporate veils
𝔱𝔬𝔯𝔰𝔬
Layers; buttoned jackets, sweaters, turtlenecks
Long, shapeless silhouettes+ flowing and/or textured fabrics (such as leather and corduroy)
Lace and mesh trims and accents are nice if you enjoy it
Cardigans, dresses, coats, cloaks or robes, nearly knee-length or longer
Simple plain colors or monochromatic patterns
Gothic or otherwise macabre graphics and complimentary accessories
𝔩𝔢𝔤𝔰
Any style of trousers that can be easily cuffed or tucked into boots. Tuck your shirts in, too!
Opaque simple or printed leggings
Some really nice belts or just something eye-catching, like a chain, sash or a lanyard with a cool or creepy design
Something that you don’t mind absent-mindedly whiping excess phlegm or blood on when you’re lacking a cloth or apron
𝔣𝔢𝔢𝔱
Nice stomping boots are pretty much mandatory
Comfortable, goes with everything and looks nice while also building character with plenty of time, love and wear.
Simple plain sneakers- as long as it is still comfortable for you, but doesnt distract too much from the rest of the outfit.
Buckled shoes such as mary janes or low heels for more feminine styles
VERY cool funky socks to hide (or peek) under your cool boots+trousers
If you have any cool ideas or suggestions, do not be afraid to contribute to the conversation by commenting on this post and sharing what makes you feel really cool and doctor-y!

If this is not already a thing then allow me to propose plaguedoctorcore
. plants are wonderful especially lavender
. has a lot of incense to help everything thing smell good
. there are glass bottles everywhere full of dried herbs and god knows what else
. shelfs full of books especially old looking books
. crows? ravens? rats? leeches? yes please
. tons of journals or sketchbooks
. is bordering between trying to keep an organized life and just becoming a cryptid
. do I even need to mention how beautiful old medical tools are? They’re just, so good
. collections of masks, candles/lanterns and dead stuff
. loves learning about the history of medicine
. the black death, just, wow
If this is already a thing I haven’t seen anything about it but I feel this so deeply

Dearest Doctor,
There is something caging about long stints in a bad situation. Whether this be mental, physical, financial, etc. The cyclical nature of it consuming until you find yourself unable to engineer your own escape.
Let me expand.
Say you were raised in a bad situation. As a child, you clearly had no control over this. You were truly helpless. Over time this becomes...normal. You have to accept in some form or another that there is nothing you can do to stop the bad things that are happening to you. This sense of despair can come about in any extended form of helplessness.
Thusly, even as you grow and/or gain control over aspects of your life, it can become exceedingly difficult to put in efforts that previously have proven worthless over and over again. Like if there are keys outside the cage that you must reach to grasp. Even though the proof that things can improve is there, the pattern-recognizing part of your brain says "no, that won't work. You know this." You tell yourself that none of the keys will unlock the cage. That trying is pointless.
This is why it is so important in our patients to understand that they are trying their best. We must assume this. Even if there are days where they do not fulfill our entire prescribed treatment. Even if there are days where we must guide them through their routine. Even if they ask repeated question. These things, though sometimes frustrating, must be handled with grace. If every key you have ever used has been the wrong one, why would you trust someone offering to help you unlock the cage?
Trust takes time. Comfort takes time. Relaxing into the knowledge that there are things in your hands to control takes time. We must help them win, over and over, so that they know what it feels like to do so.
This applies to us, of course, as well, Doctor. A little grace and forgiveness goes a long way, even to onesself.
On days of work, survival, and all the rest.
Your Darling Dove.

New Core Idea:
Merchantcore
Aesthetic includes:
Dusty shops
Old jars
Faint smell of (incense/spices/baked goods)
Antiques
Making things (whatever those things may be)
Clothes wise imagine a goth pirate/fae
Any scavenger animal or animal that's generally disliked
Old medical supplies (I'm talking leeches and herbs old)
Similar to plaguedoctorcore (idk how to link the post but I will reblog it)
Aesthetic can vary since merchants sell different things. Oddities and bones? Merchantcore. Fruit and baked goods? Merchantcore. Curses? Merchantcore.
Pls help me make this a thing
