CDmagic1408's QOY Miniatures! ✨

Quest Masters!

May I proudly present to thee...

my Quests of Yore miniatures! In color! 🎨

(cue group photo and dramatic photoshoot! 📸)

These six figures all come straight from the real life Quests of Yore game that was released just last year, and even though I myself got the game in June 2021, I never thought to paint the minis that came with it…until NOW

I began painting them back in April 2022, but only after three individual days of just placing color somewhere on them, I soon got busy with finishing up my college semester that I didn’t pick up on them again until two months later in June

From then on until just last week, I spent every other day or so painting these and now they are finally done!!

I absolutely love how they all came out! Each mini is definitely unique in their own special way!

Like any true adventurer on a grand quest, it took great courage, tons of patience, a dash of creativity, and clever resourcefulness to transform these figures as you see them!

My weapons of choice included acrylic paint, the finest and tiniest brush tips plus a toothpick (which is basically a thin paintbrush without hairs going all over the place), and a steady hand to accomplish this no easy feat!

And in the end, it was totally worth it! All of these characters feel much more alive and real with color on them! So I'm beyond glad and excited to have accomplished this artistic deed 😄

Now before I do a deep dive into each of these minis, below is a video I made where I did 3D turnarounds of each of them! I so wish you guys could see these beautiful masterpieces in person—believe me looking at them with my own two eyes, they are GORGEOUS—but I’m afraid this is the best I can do...

I guess I was thinking about how on the bonus feature disc for the 2005 Toy Story 2 DVD, they showed 3D turnarounds of each of the character models and the environments from the movie, and just remembering how much I would watch those over and over again when I was younger…basically I wanted to do something like that lol. As much as I wish Onward went all out like that in their bonus content (like for real I would so watch a 3D turnaround of a New Mushroomton street), that’s obviously a post for another day…

So yeah here is a closer look at each individual miniature with background music!

The Manticore - this is the only mini I decided to really go by the book on, with the exception of one minor detail…I decided to give her pink nails like she has in the movie! if I had to name my favorite modern detail about her, that would definitely be it! but yeah other than that, she’s just too awesome of a character to be painted any differently!

Dragon - this is your quick IYTM spoiler warning but I based this mini entirely on Dragon Ian from the fanfic’s climax! I even made the pearl he’s holding the S.S. Medallion! and the ground he’s standing on is Gedeon’s lair! As my own text in the story describes: using the medallion, Ian shapeshifts into a huge aqua-colored dragon with talons, scales, a whip-like tail and all! so if you desire another visual of what he looks like during that portion of the fan novel’s penultimate chapter: this is it!

Gnome (Companion/Bard) - this one I wanna say was the quickest to paint because of how small she is. Her hair is partly inspired by Giulia from Luca. I know Guilia’s hair is a little darker than the gnome’s but I couldn’t resist giving this gnome a red hat and didn’t necessarily want the colors to clash. still the hair itself just reminded me of Guilia, so I wanted to give her a hair color that was at least close to it. Also being in the companion role, I decided to give this figure warm colors overall to give off a vibe of friendliness!

Cyclops (Savant/Wizard) - Purple robes with pink skin was my immediate first thought when it came to this mini. To put it simply, I wanted to defy gender stereotypes with this one. Purple is an absolutely amazing robe color! and it’s my second favorite color after blue! This purple specifically is plum and I think it contrasts the pink very well to the point that it pops. I also used the other purples I had to make other details shine such as the band on his wizard hat and his sleeves. lastly I wanna say that this is the mini where I found using a toothpick to add details was brilliant! It’s how I got his eye to be how it is!

Elf (Defender/Warrior) - if I had to pick, I’d say this one was the hardest to paint! mainly because I went back and forth on which colors I wanted to use for her. The last thing I wanted for any of these figures was to have them be dull-looking. But ultimately I decided to go in a slightly risqué direction and turn her warrior outfit in such a way that I gave her a midriff. I guess for an elf I thought she needed more blue than just on her face and hair lol. I also gave her the Shield of Zadar as depicted in the QOY book and the Greatsword which is on an item card from the QOY game!

Satyr (Vagabond/Rogue) - I gave this mini all sorts of colors but its main ones are definitely blue, green, and gold. Being a satyr, I kinda wanted to go in a nature-feel direction and to me that means green, brown, and gold, but also all sorts of colors since nature itself has all sorts of colors in it! Of all the minis, his expression is definitely my favorite! Tbh I don’t really know how I did it, I just made it work! Again, with a toothpick, and by putting down the right amount of paint I guess lol. But just the way he is, it screams ready for action!

But yeah there you have it, QMs! Those are my painted QOY minis!

If you have this game, if you have paint, and if you're looking for an art project to do, I highly suggest doing this!!!

I know the thought of laying paint on these guys seems scary and intimidating, believe me I definitely had those thoughts when I began laying out the groundwork for this, but as Barley once said: "You'll never be ready! MERGE!"

So my best advice is: just do it, don't hold back. If you make a mistake, you can always paint over it! If you're frustrated over how it's going, take a break! If you need inspiration, check out Barley's figures which are scattered in different scenes at the beginning of the film and/or any Onward book that depicts art whether that's the art book or the irl QOY book!

All this advice helped me turn my once grayed out miniatures into the beautiful and colorful miniatures that they are now and they're absolutely fantastic!

This whole experience was a lot of fun and I'm so thrilled to finally share what I've spent a good two-ish months working on with you guys!

Dunno why I’m back so soon, guess my anxiety has been acting up or something. I’m surprised to see I didn’t get as much harassment posts thank god. Saw one person say bullshit that seems aimed towards me but aside from that one psycho all is good I guess.

I had a panic attack last week and ending up confessing to my older sister about everything that happened. I even told her about my fetish, which had me so scared to do I almost vomited. I was scared she was going to think I’m a freak and disown me as a sister as some people in my past did. She took it better than I thought and said it was a normal and a healthy thing. It is a part of being human. I was so grateful to learn my sister still loves me for being born this way. I am still too scared to tell my parents though as they are old fashioned and would definitely not get it. To help make me feel better she invited me over to her place to try and help me recover as my anxiety has been worse as of late. I had lots of fun! Sadly my parents fucking car got fucked up because some girl at McDonald’s messed up the hot chocolate cup and it spilled all over the controls so I had to take some meds after that scary almost car crash experience. The car seems to have somehow fixed itself the next day though? Still kinda nervous about it though.

I got quests of yore the board game! We found a game shop and she decided to play a game with me, I sort of went in blind as I know nothing about DND. We got it and played and it was fun, I got a companion which was a bear. I was struggling to come up with a name and she said Gary. We proceed to laugh a long time. We are on a quest to make lots of money to pay rent that will allow us to keep a bear. LOL

I’ve been up and down lately really, my social anxiety is way worse and I’m currently questing my sexuality and identity. I am thinking I may be agender and only into boys I’m not sure. I get bullied by lots of girls so even though I am attracted to all kinds of body types and I’m not fused by gender and have crushes on fictional girls I’m absolutely terrified of real life girls now. I was thinking I may be pansexual as well but yeah...women are SCARY dude. It’s very confusing... I wish girls like Abigail from Stardew valley were real...*sigh* in my country we get lots of what we call sheep. So if you’re not into make up and Twilight the girls in my country are immediately like “fuck you!”. Guys and non binaries aren’t like that tho. Not sure why.

And yeah, Barley and Abigail, I have a type LOL

We are trying to look for a new therapist but they’re all booked out. I have been getting lots of trauma related panic attacks but my family is helping me through it. I came here again because of anxiety of course like I said but uh....thanks to everyone who supports me. And please don’t listen to any bullshit rumours you might hear about me. People just don’t know how to fucking chill. You guys have anything better to do than to bitch and moan? Just write and draw things you love, don’t complain about people or make up nasty stories to try and gain more haters to join you. I know you’re watching me. You say I should grow up but who really is the immature one? Yes I had a bad panic attack that time. Yes I should have kept it anonymous. But I’m not evil. I just wish to be myself without seeing nasty posts. I said sorry but did you guys say sorry to me? No you didn’t. You kept going and did a lot of damage. So who is really the immature one? The one who felt bad and tried to explain why I was hurt and how we can make things better or the one who wanted to keep assuming the worst in me? Just enjoy the things you love instead of thriving in things you hate and trying to guilt trip others who like the things you hate. Stop making rumours and harassing others. Just stop. And not just me, anyone in general, I know there’s others who suffered from your wrath. Much like a dear friend of mine in December 2021 who practically saved me life. You know who I’m talking about, you hated on him for being like me. So just calm down, do you and I will do me. If you choose to hate someone over ONE mistake or one tiny trait like personal preferences than that’s just sad. Do what makes you happy, don’t go out of your way to make yourself angry by LOOKING UP the things you dislike. You do you, I will do me. Just learn to chill.

Again thanks to the people here who didn’t harass me. I really do appreciate it. I will just post and disappear again as tumblr does tend to be a DANGEROUS website. Place is practically crawling with cyber bullies. You guys should be careful too, please stay safe and if people try to attack you block them and maybe get off of tumblr. I hear shit about Twitter but I will not lie, there’s actually less cyber bullies there apparently. Deviantart is a totally safe place too. I did have some BS happen there before but the people behind the website don’t allow bullying and band people. So yeah. Thanks and stay safe everyone.

Would anyone be willing to share PDF scans/pics of the Advanced Player's Guide and Tome of Quests from Quests of Yore: Barley's Edition (aka, the game version)? I desperately crave the lore and want to run games with friends, but I don't have any need (or space) for the physical version and all its parts.

Today marks four years since the release of ONWARD, a wonderful Pixar film.

I discovered the film two years ago, and from the first time I saw it to this day, it continues to excite me. ONWARD, for me, is a work of art and I highly recommend it to everyone. It's one of my favorite films; emotional, fun, with wonderful effects and designs, and it's message is very profound.

I am so grateful to all the people behind ONWARD for creating it. And also because they gave us one of the BEST characters, Barley. I love that boy with all my heart.

Happy 4th anniversary, ONWARD.

Probably the hardest part of Dragon Quest IX’s postgame is figuring out the prerequisites for the quests you want to do, since accurate information is impossible to come by.

The wiki? Has no clue what it’s doing. It claimed Quest 146, a default Story Quest, required the completion of the King Godfrey questline.

The internet in general? Is mostly unaware of the existence of the DLC, or the fact that people could conceivably still be playing it.

The official strategy guide? Refuses to give any information about the postgame quests except that they exist, and what their rewards are, citing spoilers. Fuck you, too, Brady. If I cared about spoilers, I would not have purchased an official strategy guide!

I've had this Quests of Yore role playing game for weeks now and, while I'm having fun figuring it out, I still don't know how to play it! I don't even know how to fill a character sheet! The only things I've done is add more pieces to use as characters, including the emotions from my Game of Life Inside Out game. And yes, I do plan to practice making the emotions a new species, which you can do in the game, but I don't even know how to do that. If anyone is curious to help me figure this game out, I'd love the help, and some players.

I also found there's an Intro to D&D class that meets at a local book store every first Saturday, so if I'm still lost, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help me figure things out.

I have other plans for this game, once I figure out how to play it, such as make the sea monsters from Luca a species so I can make a character sheet of Alberto as a pirate, cause I know that's the exact character he'd make in this game 🤣

Something I remember being struck by during Near Light’s first run is that the root of many of the knights’ disquiet is that none of them can answer the question of what it truly means to be a knight.

The Candle Knight, Viviana. A flawless competition knight who funnels her winnings to charities abroad. She fights, and she does good, but the two are entirely fungible. Any high-paid job could produce the funds, and her do-gooding is as simple as signing a cheque. There’s no external resistance, no struggle in the moment. Knighthood isn’t Effective Altruism, there has to be a personal battle.

Nightmare Knight Tola. He thinks he knows. Prove yourself on the battlefield, fight great opponents head-on and emerge victorious. Only, he has no cause to fight for. No khagan, no quest. He’s just seeking violence for its own sake. Knighthood isn’t just fighting, there has to be a higher cause.

I’ll also mention the Silverlances as our “historical” knights. Disciplined, proud, devastatingly effective, yes. But soldiers, moved by the political will of their masters, not their own convictions. The ideal of chivalric knighthood is not embodied by the actual knights of yore.

The Blood Knight, Dikaiopolis. He has a higher cause, and his struggles have directly paid off in real terms. But it’s only so much, and achieved through compromise or working the system. Is this the limit? Can he achieve no more? Is realpolitik and achievable ambition the way of knighthood?

Our headline act, The Radiant Knight, Margaret Nearl. Throughout Near Light, what struck me was how vague her plan was. She was to become a beacon, to lead by example, but… how? Is knighthood a state of being, or of doing? Can you set out with the goal of being an ideal knight, or is the pinnacle of knighthood only attained in pursuit of some other goal? Will she amount to anything at all?

(I admit, after seeing footballers in the UK do a better job of opposing the government than the actual opposition does, and the particular parallels of the Gary Lineker case, I have more patience for Nearl’s idea.)

Perhaps Pinus Sylvestris are the closest, though they’re too busy to notice. They fight to carve out their survival, and do all they can to support the other Infected. An all-consuming, noble and personal struggle. And yet… the cynic in me wonders, are they only able to do this because they have no choice? Was The Blood Knight once like them? The strong may choose their methods, while the weak must take whichever path they can. Is knighthood only able to exist against such stark and uncaring odds?

All these questions, and yet no clear answer. Perhaps it is for each of us to decide what knighthood should mean.

Finally, let’s not forget our Blemishine. She very openly says she has no idea what knighthood is (though it’s definitely not corporate sponsorship). She just fought for the sake of her family, in the way she thought was right. And she held no illusions of glory, bowing out as she realised the life of a “knight” was not for her. Yet, or perhaps therefore, I can’t help but feel she might find her own form of knighthood anyway.

When they're sad

A/N: I am sorry if a character is not on par, I haven't watched all these movies recently, only half of them I've seen in the past month. But I try my best to keep the characters in character. The reader is almost always gender neutral unless I specified differently in the title. For Elsa, this scenario is set between the 1st and 2nd movies. For Buzz, this scenario is set when he was still Andy's toy.

Hades (Hercules 1997):

It is a rare occurrence that you see the god of the underworld vulnerable. Sure you've seen him mad, angry and frustrated but never sad or down.

You knew better to approach him quietly so you made it known that you were going to him.

His hair flared more to life and his head snapped towards your direction. A fake grin spread across his face and he spoke up. "Aye dollface! The dead didn't keep you away I see."

You suppressed the eyeroll at his remark. He was trying to mask his vulnerable state and it was obvious. You got down to eye level and looked at his ashy face. You reached out and caressed his tear stained cheeks. "You have been crying, haven't you..."

His hair flickered and he pushed your hand away. "Please, as if. It's all this dust down here. Making my allergies all messed up."

You weren't buying that one bit. A sigh slipped past your lips and you sat down beside him. "Tell me what's wrong. I can listen as long as you want me to."

He huffed and pulled you closer by your waist. He rested his chin on your shoulder and grumbled on about something that happened earlier.

You just sat with him and rubbed his hands that placed on your stomach as you listened to his venting.

Elsa (Frozen):

The large door of Elsa's room made her look away from the window she was staring out of. Once she saw it was you, she quickly whipped her tears that threatened to spill over. "Y/n, what are you doing here?" She smiled softly but the saddness in her voice was still there.

Your face softened seeing her upset. "Hey, what is it? You look like you've been crying."

Elsa straightened her posture and waved her hands in front of her. "Oh no I'm fine. Everything is fine." She sounded more like she was trying to convince herself more than anything.

You took gingerly steps towards her and took her cold hands into yours. Ignoring her confused expression, you continued speaking. "If something is bothering you, tell me. Whatever it is I will help. Or at least try." The last part you tried to lighten the mood by adding that in.

And it did make her lightly laugh but then her eyes met yours again and the waterworks started again.

Elsa gripped your hands tighter and pulled you close, wrapping her arms around you tightly.

You hugged her back and stood there with her as she cried into your shoulder/neck.

Barley Lightfoot (Onward):

Barley sat on his bed as he played with a Quests of Yore card between his fingers. His eyes shown sorrow and a pain shot through your chest seeing him so blue.

His mom had told you that he was just upstairs when you entered the Lightfoot household. You thanked her and giggled at the panting dragon bouncing around your feet.

Mrs. Lightfoot sprayed it with water and it scurried away. You opened the door to Barley's room and your excitement slowly faded as you saw him hunched over.

You quietly shut the door and cringed as the click of the door sounded.

Barley looked up and wiped the pool of tears collecting on the brimes of his eyes. "Hello lovely! You need something from the great Barley?" He tried to act tough and playful but the facade didn't fool you. His smile faltered as you came nearer.

You cupped his cheeks and rubbed your thumbs over them gently. "Oh my dear Barley, whats got you so sad? Your eyes are red and your face is blotchy."

He leaned into your touch and sighed. He relaxed into you as he leaned his head on your stomach. His thick arms wrapped around your torso and he nuzzled into your stomach more as he cried.

You rubbed his back and let him cry it out. To cheer him up, you two shared stories with each other afterwards.

Ian Lightfoot (Onward):

Little sniffles could be heard from Ian's bedroom as he fiddled with the wooden staff in his hands. The door was cracked since he thought he was home alone and didn't expect you to suddenly show up.

He smiled and wiped the wet trails of tears off his cheeks. "Hey N/n, sorry you had to see me like this."

You of course didn't mind that he was crying but it did worry you a good bit. "Don't apologize for crying. It's better letting it out then holding it in."

He nodded and stared at the ground by his feet. You sat next to him on his bed and reached out, combing your fingers through his hair.

He blinked; looked at you, your hand, then back at you. "Wha-what are you doing?"

You shrugged and gazed into his big brown eyes. "Just thought it would help."

The corner of his mouth quirked up a little as he tipped his head to give you better access to it. "It does just a bit." He set the staff aside and turned his body more towards you.

"Wanna talk about it?" You asked him.

He shook his head and ran patterns on your leg using his fingers. "No. Maybe later when I'm ready."

Violet (The Incredibles):

Violet's parents, Helen and Bob, warned you beforehand that she had been emotional all day. You being her partner, you shrugged it off and made a mental note to try and comfort her if needed.

The door to her room was shut as per usual and you slowly cracked the door open. All you saw was floating clothes on her bed; her powers obviously activated.

Violet was curled up and soft whimpers could be heard throughout the teenagers room.

You knocked on her door and she audibly gasped. "Go away...I look horrible." She said as she pulled a blanket over her head that then covered her body.

Sitting down on her bed, you placed your hand on hers. "Why are you sad? Both your mom and dad said that you've been...upset all day."

Moments of silence passed before she responded. "I don't know. Just not feeling it today." She rested her chin on her knees.

"Can I do anything for you? I'd bring a truckload of candy if you'd ask." That earned a soft smile from her. "Ice cream is fine."

You nodded and exited her bedroom. She perked up when you came back with varies flavors of ice cream. "I uh didn't know which to grab so I grabbed all of them."

She pulled the blanket off of her and snatched the chocolate ice cream out of your hands. "Thank you N/n." The night ended with the two of you cuddling and eating ice cream.

Bonus:

Helen smiled as she leaned against the doorframe of Violets bedroom. "Bob get in here!" She whisper yelled towards her husband.

Bob walked behind his wife and placed a hand on her shoulder. "They fell asleep." The two adults smiled at their daughter and her loving partner who relaxed together on her bed.

"Should we do something?" Bob asked Helen.

Helen lightly smacked his chest and tried not to make noise. "No, let's let them sleep. I will call Y/n's mom/dad/grandparent and tell 'em that he/she/they are staying over."

Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story):

The plastic space ranger sat on the edge of Andy's window, messing with his wrist with his back facing everyone else.

He didn't notice you walking up behind him and was startled when you spoke up out of nowhere. "What are you doing all the way over here? You're missing out on Rex trying to beat his current level."

Buzz glanced beyond you and towards the green dinosaur and his pig friend. He raised an eyebrow and looked up at you. "Yeah sounds like a blast."

You furrowed your brows and sat with him. "Okay. What's wrong?"

He looked at you with a confused expression. "Nothing?"

You shook your head. "No something is bothering you. You always sulk by this spot."

Buzz scoffed. "I do not." You nodded. "Yes you do." He looked away and at the plants outside.

You chuckled and wrapped your arms around his neck. "You're only quiet 'cause you know I'm right." If he could you knew he'd be blushing at the contact.

"Maybe." You smiled and unwrapped your arms from him. "Well, what is upsetting you? Can I help in any way?"

Buzz grabbed your hand and played with your fingers. "Just stay here with me. Your presence always makes me feel better." You scooted closer to him and put your chin on his broad shoulder. "Yes sir."

Quasimodo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame):

You climbed all the steps of the tower and inhaled deeply as you reached the top. The large golden bell hung in waiting for it to ring. The man that won your heart lived in the tower and you visit him almost everyday.

It can get boring living alone, besides the stone gargoyles. You walked around the bell and looked around your surroundings. "Quasimodo? You up here?"

You heard whispers and light shushing sounds coming from the other end which view was covered by purple fabric. You knew that meant he was shielding himself for privacy. You slipped passed it and saw Quasimodo with his back towards you. His gargoyle friends circled him, trying to console the man.

"Oh my sweet Quasimodo, are you crying?" You said, putting your hand on his back. He stiffened in surprise and turned away more. "Please, go. I look hideous."

His words stabbed your heart and made you feel bad for him. "I won't touch you if it makes you worse but I can't leave you like this. At least let me know what is making you unhappy."

He slowly lifted his head and shuffled further back away from the ledge. The gargoyles by now left the two of you alone to talk. The silence was broken when he spoke up from his spot. "Why...Why do you stay?"

The question caught you off guard and you sank down to your knees. "Because I care deeply for you and I am not going to abandon you." You started to extend your hand but stopped and observed his face. He gave a hesitant nod and you caressed his face. "And nothing can tear me away from you."

His eyes scanned yours for any fault in your words but there was only truth and love. "Thank you...N/n."
