Johanna Mason was spot on when she said the capitol killing Prim would never happen because she was too well liked and EVERYONE would turn against them. ah yes, my favorite media. a grand story about the horror and tragedy of war set featuring a massive space war that was a rebellion against an oppressive colonial empire hellbent on conquest (which also experiments on its subjects), a main cast of mostly female characters, a key romance between two women, and a clone army of female super soldiers.

my favorite character in this story is a woman named rose. though not physically present in the text, her absence echoes throughout the narrative in a way that makes those closest to her do great and terrible things. she comprises one half of the key romance (of which the other half is deeply devoted to her even after she is gone). she has done some deeply awful things in her past, but that doesn't stop me excusing her shitty actions <3

dumb theory: rose by the oh hellos is a mechanisms reference.

my proof:

the rose reds were literally made to be broken. they have bodies made for breaking, for fighting and killing.

the briar rose was tangled up and confused with the real rose due to looking exactly the same.

cinders/snows love for rose got rose, snow and so many others slaughtered. and this all started at an alter, rose and cinders wedding altar. and what would be safe (giving in to king cole) was not good (resisting his tyranny)

losing the true nature of the name rose red when you loosen it to refer to all the rose clones, gifting them the new moniker of 'rose reds'

just. wedding references i guess. plus empty tomb could refer to rose and snow probably being left to rot in the throne room rather than being buried in the tombs their rich family had. and no alchemic incantation for counterfeit immortality (salivation from going to whatever evil afterlife exists in their universe, if one does) can appease the scary and important king cole.

Fairy Tale Curse

Valerie, Dan, Dani, Frostbite, Danny, Pandora, Constantine, Barbara, J'onn, Steph, Dinah, and Cass get sucked into a fairy tale world. They each get a chance to be the main character of a fairy tale.

Valerie's story is Little Red Riding Hood, where Dan is the Big Bad Wolf, Pandora's the Grandmother, Dinah and Frostbite are the Mom and Dad that sends her to Grandma's house, Constantine and Danny are the Lumberjack and Hunter that save Valerie from being eaten, while the rest are background characters.

Next up is Dan's story. Cinderella. He had to cook and clean for Dinah, Danny, and Dani. Then Fairy Godmother Barbara forced him to go to a ball where the Prince was Constantine.

Then it was Dani's turn. Her story was The Frog Prince. Steph turned out to be the Frog she had to kiss.

And on and on the Stories went until everyone got a turn being Main Character. But there was one last story they had to complete before they were able to break free of the curse.

The last story they have to complete before getting out is Twelve Dancing Princesses.

I want to briefly talk about the neo-pagan German band Faun, specialized in *puts on glasses* medieval music, folk music and dark wave.

I first discovered the group thanks to this song, celebrating the Night of Walpurgis:

It was part of a series of songs covering many "pagan" and neo-pagan celebrations. Other songs in the thematic ensemble include celebrations of Halloween and of Lughnasad:

And I recently discovered that they actually tackled fairytales too! They had a whole album called "Märchen and Mythen" (Fairytales and Myths) back in 2019. And some of these songs got clip. Such as "Rosenrot", based on "Snow-White and Rose-Red"...

... or "Aschenbrödel", a Cinderella-song more specifically based on/inspired by the movie "Three Wishes for Cinderella"
