Divine Blade (a DND 5e Homebrew species inspired by @comicaurora)
Tumblr media
(Personal notes under the cut)
Lore
Once upon a time, the Collector, a cunning and ruthless Life Mage who had found Life’s True Name, decided to free the Primordial from her half-dead torment. In order to find a way to accomplish this, she captured Vash, the notoriously competent god of the eponymous city, by crushing said city under a mountain and draining the soul of the god from his vessel.
However, a being arose from Vash’s soulless but still functional incarnation, Kendal, who would come to oppose her. Thus was born a new kind of being, nicknamed “Divine Blades” after the first one recorded, that are born from the empty incarnations of gods. These beings are among the rarest kinds of people, since they require a way to pull a god’s soul out of their body without damaging it.
Variability in Design. No two Divine Blades look alike, as gods like to fit their incarnations to the tasks they wish to carry. However, most look relatively like a member of an Elder or Younger race.
Mysterious Origins. It is currently unknown why Divine Blades can occur. The only fully recorded case of a Divine Blade's creation is Kendal's, who was healed by a highly unusual Life Magic right after his springing into existence. However, she was theorized to be the last bearer and sole survivor of the Chimeric Plague, and thus cannot reasonably be the explanation for the continued existence for all Divine Blades.
Divine Blade Features:
Ability Score Increase: One ability score of your choice increases by 2, and one other ability score of your choice increases by 1.
Age: Most Divine Blades are between 2 and 30 years old physically. Whether or not they age is still the subject of furious academic debate.
Creature Type: You are a humanoid.
Size: Gods, out of habit or out of pragmatism, are almost always around the size of their subject, and thus, so are Divine Blades. Your size is Medium or Small.
Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Role of the Ruler: Your body was created to fulfill a purpose. Whether it’s to protect your people, destroy your enemies, or trick your way to victory, your body allows you to perform supernatural feats. Choose one of the inspirations for the role your body used to fill.
Protector (Vash): When an enemy hits an ally within 5 feet of you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to make a melee attack on them. If you hit, the target must reroll their damage dice and pick the lowest roll. If the weapon used has the Reach property, the target takes no damage from the attack. You can use this trait only once per combat. In addition, your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 every time you gain a level.
Warmonger (Tynan): When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can teleport up to 20 ft next to an enemy as a bonus action. If you teleport behind the target of your weapon attack, you gain advantage on the next attack roll. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. In addition, you can move through the space of any creature that is of a size equal or larger than yours.
Trickster (Caliban): As a bonus action, you can change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration, hair length, clothing, and even the texture of your skin and hair. You can also adjust your height and weight within the limits of your original size. You can make yourself appear as a member of another species, though none of your game statistics change, and you must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs that you have. When you do so, you appear as a unique member of that species, and not of one that actually exists in the world. You stay in the new form until you use a bonus action to revert to your true form or until your hit points are reduced to 0. In addition, you gain proficiency in Charisma (Deception), Wisdom (Insight) checks, and one tool proficiency of your choice.
Bizarre Biology: You are much less mortal than you look. If someone wants to heal you, they must pass a DC 12 Medicine check in order to do so. Once a creature has succeeded on this save, they can heal you without having to pass a check again. In addition, Divination spells and abilities such as Divine Sense identify you as a celestial.
Implacable Vigor: You don't need to sleep as much as mortal-borns. You do not gain levels of exhaustion from spending 24 hours or more without having a long rest. You can finish a long rest in 3 hours if you do nothing more strenuous than eating, drinking, reading, and tending to wounds. In order to gain the benefit of a long rest in this way, you must spend the least amount of Hit Dice you would need to heal you in full (minimum of 1). If you use that long rest to regain spell slots, spend a number of Hit Dice equal to your highest level spell slot recovered divided by 2 (minimum of 0). Once you’re out of Hit Dice, the normal rules for sleeping and exhaustion now apply to you.
Language: You can speak, read, and write Common Auroran and one other language of your choice.
Ooh boy, did this species went through a LOT of versions! I don't remember half of them, but let's just say it's as balanced as it's ever going to be. Pro tip: sometimes UA stuff is unfairly sidelined, and sometimes they're the Warforged rules for natural armor. I settled on Powerful Build instead, because it's a cool ribbon ability for many characters, and also because I had to rep my boy Kendal's guns.
I also shot myself in the foot HARD by making part of my Oath of the Stars paladin subclass the ability to jump in the way of an incoming attack, because I had a similar but weaker version of that for the Protector Role, and I hate that because it A) discourages a class-species combo, which I don't like to do because it restrains creativity too much, and B) makes them feel samey, and I like unique stuff. Thankfully, I found an option in the same vein that does feel unique and faithful enough to me.
Warmonger was also tough to figure out, because imitating the abilities of, essentially, the final boss of the first arc while making it faithful, unique, fun, and "balanced" is not easy, to say the least. I settled on a limited teleportation because Tynan loved to zip around the battlefield. There's also the thing of "gain advantage by essentially teleporting behind your first target", which is both a recreation of a move Tynan uses on Kendal and a fun choice IMO: You can gain an edge in combat, but you might need that teleport later, and now you're wasting it to increase your chances on an attack roll. I like those choices between two valuable things, because it makes the player think and weigh the options more deeply than a simple risk/reward calculation (though I love those for the adrenaline factor)
Thankfully, Trickster was almost insultingly easy to figure out. I wanted to emulate Caliban's sneaky sneak during all of the Zuurith arc, because I like that and also because sometimes you need non-combat utility. I would feel bad for the fact that it's essentially a worse form of Changelings' Shapechanger if not for my appreciation of abilities that require lateral thinking to make truly useful (a must for a trickster archetype) and also, once again, my desires to stay faithful to the source material and to make everything unique. You get a bonus tool proficiency, too, so don't act like it's such a bad trade-off.
Speaking of unique, Implacable Vigor is my personal take on Improved Resting mechanics (Trance, Sentry's Rest ...). I am of the opinion that Hit Dice are a tragically unused resource, and I like to make players consider trade-offs. It's also an embarassingly late addition to this species, since Kendal's unusual sleeping habits have been the premise of nearly all of Chapter 11, but hey. Also, for DMs: ban chain short resting. Especially if you let a player use this species. You don't want your Warlock-Sorcerer player to have 16 3rd level spell slots.
Bizarre Biology, despite being the most unprecedented trait I've created, doesn't have much to be said about it. I wanted to make a mechanical representation of Divine Blades being nearly mortal looking, like if the Uncanny Valley was sexy instead of horny. Yup.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dalamus was born as a commoner. And although viewed as a bit odd for his dark hair color, darkened sclera, and eventually, his height, it did not diminish his abilities. Unwilling to enter military forces, Dalamus showed promise as a gemcutter.
His unique appearance, eye for quality gemstones, and gemcutting ability caught the eye of a minor noblewoman, Nedvyllanna Strighym, who took him to be her consort, and he took on the surname of the house. He produced exquisite gems for her to wear and flaunt, and she paraded him around like a prized animal in a collection.
Dalamus gained basic access to the House's weapons training, to further refine what he had taught himself, so that he may be ready to defend his matron at any moment. He behaved admirably, following orders. And while Dalamus was a skilled gemcutter, he was a better thief. Often Nedvyllanna would task him with stealing the gems and jewelry of other nobles--a blow to their pride, vanity, and wealth.
Rarely did a house dare accuse of theft, for to do so would be admitting weakness and a lack of attention and security to let the consort of a minor house rob them. Any accusations that were made were simply met with the assertion that Dalamus was skilled at replication, which he had skills enough to convincingly prove.
For several years, they managed the scheme together, amassing wealth and beauty while draining it from their rivals.
Lying and stealing, even murder, were often expected in the Underdark, if not encouraged. But being caught was inexcusable. Dalamus was caught picking the pocket of a noble for valuables, ending his usefulness to House Strighym. Being caught under orders not only showed a lapse in his skills but, even more damning, reflected poorly on his matron for employing one so careless.
Dalamus was stripped of his House name, House insignia, and exiled, but not before his matron had given her punishment. His thievery and gemcutting skills were now of no use to her, and she wished to wound his vanity by striking the face which had drawn her to him in the first place.
A whip cracked across his face and throat. He was taken to the gates of Menzoberranzan and chased from the city by the Jade Spider constructs until he collapsed from exhaustion. As far as House Strighym was concerned, Dalamus was as good as dead, soon to be torn apart and eaten alive by any number of Underdark creatures.
But Dalamus was stubborn, and spiteful, and used to sneaking around in the dark. His wounds made it more difficult, and more dangerous. If he moved, he may die, but if he remained in one place, he would definitely die. The surface was his best bet for survival. Unfortunately, he had never been, and did not know the way, and there were endless tunnels and caverns between here and there.
He struggled, avoiding detection of Drow patrols near the cities, and countless monsters beyond. Cloakers, darkmantles and ropers camouflaged themselves against the terrain. Giant lizards, spiders, and centipedes could be drawn to the scent of blood. Ghasts, dreugers, darklings, grimlocks, myconids and more made their homes in the caverns. Few of them were fond of the Drow.
Dalamus was almost killed by a Quaggoth, being struck in the shoulder and tossed onto a cluster of stalagmites, but used Dancing Lights to blind and distract the beast just long enough to slip into a passageway too narrow for the bear-sized humanoid or any of its rapidly approaching hunting pack.
After wandering, wounded, testing different tunnels, Dalamus found an exit to the surface, where he could attempt to get himself properly healed and rested. Preferably, in the shade. The sun was damned bright.
Little did he know this respite would be brief.
Snape's gang (following the fem! Severus au)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sevrina Snape-Prince - Slytherin
-Also known as Ina or Rina by her gang and other close friends, like Lucius and Narcissa. None of them call her Sev or Sevy. They have a silent, unspoken agreement about that.
-A magical prodigy, but doesn't get the recognition she deserves (except for her friends)
-Her skills in Potions are unmatched. Not even Slughorn stands at her level. It's a common saying within her friend group that "Seeing Snape brewing something is more terrifying that seeing her with a wand".
-"Give her a cauldron, ingredients, a quiet space, and she'll conquer the world" - Evan Rosier
-Whenever she hears the teachers claiming that a certain feat is "impossible", she takes it as a challenge (and she mostly succeeds)
-She keeps her hair short for the majority of her time in Hogwarts because it was easier to handle. Also, short hair is harder to grab or pull, a lesson she learnt from the Marauders during her first year.
-Dark humour enthusiast. She crackles at the most fucked up jokes and also shares some of her own. It's also her copying mechanism.
-She has a glow-up in her sixth year, when her friends finally step in and force her to take better care of herself (while also distracting her from her fallout with Lily).
-Until fourth year, she didn't comprehend she also liked boys. The bi awakening hit her hard (you can guess who triggered it)
-She has secretly improved multiple potion recipes for her own benefit and to help her friends, and even invented some of her own. Same goes for spells. She's constantly coming up with new ideas and doesn't stop until they become reality.
-She's the kind of girl that would come up with a cure for Blood Curses when she was in the shower, or create an improved version of the Wolfsbane simply because she was bored.
-She's an overachiever. It started as an effect of the harassment and insecurities she faced, making her eager to prove herself that she was better than everyone else. Now it's more of an extension of her own ambition. She just loves the feeling of achieving something.
-During her first years in Hogwarts, she struggled to afford basic tools, like notebooks and clothes. She relied heavily on Lily and any Slytherin kind enough to lend her anything. This also applies to basic hygiene products, which is why her appareance was so neglected initially.
-The main reason her hair often looks greasy it's because of the amount of time she spends brewing, since the smoke of the cauldrons gets in her hair. She combats it by insistently washing her hair afterwards, but it doesn't always fix the problem.
-She and Aurora are the responsible ones. She voices out her disaproval for the others' antics, but rarely stops them. She can be seen standing close, with faux disinterest and a glint of amusement in her eyes. She only intervenes when they're about to hurt themselves or get caught. If there's a chance of Gryffindors becoming collateral damage, that's when she actively joins the games.
-Snape's angry mom voice is well known by the entirety of House Slytherin and they all know that when she uses it, they must listen and obey. Surprisingly enough, Barty Jr and Regulus Black are often spared from this.
-Addicted to coffee, goes crazy if she's deprived of it for more than a day. Since it's forbidden for students, she acquires it from the muggle world and sets up a secret stash that only the gang knows about. Only shares it with Aurora and Evan, and charges them for it.
-She smokes occasionally, either alone or with Mulciber and Avery.
-A natural Occlumens with a proficiency in Legilimency, courtesy of her Prince heritage.
-Has had multiple jobs in the muggle world to substain herself, including illegal ones. She occasionally sells some of her potions illegally in Knockturn Alley too.
-She never does anything for free. If you want her help, you have to pay up. There's little she's not willing to do for money.
-Eventually settles down for a job in a muggle restaurant during the summer, as a chef. Charity, Aurora and Barty become regulars only to ask for the "chef" to come out everytime to praise her. Snape pretends to be annoyed, but she feels warm at the gesture.
Tumblr media
Edmund Avery Jr - Slytherin
-Rarely anyone calls him Edmund. He's known as Avery by everyone, including those who've known him before Hogwarts. The gang calls him Ave, or Ed, but this one is rare.
-He doesn't think highly of his father and it's annoyed that he's named after him, so he prefers to be referred to by his family name.
-He suffers from a Blood Curse, the result of a failed ritual one of his ancestors attempted centuries ago. It appears each generation and it's similar to anhemia. He coughs blood and can't engage in physical activities too much, as it strains his body. That includes flying.
-Childhood best friends with Mulciber. He's the only person Avery trusts before the gang is formed. He rather cut off his hand than admit this, but is very emotionally attached to Mulciber.
-He's a mean bitch 24/7. It doesn't matter if you're pureblood or not, he'll insult you and make fun of you simply because he can. He's known for making people cry with few words.
-Calls Snape and Charity "mudblood" on the daily. They're used to it already, but he can't get enough of the horror and anger in other people's faces when they hear him.
-If anyone else calls them that, he laughs at it, but secretly curses that person later. They might be mudbloods, but they are his mudbloods.
-He believes in blood purity, but in a cynical way. While he thinks that pureblood wizards are naturally superior and deserve to have privileges in the wizarding world, he has nothing against half-bloods and muggleborns. To him, it's just the way things are, and there's no reason to hate on people simply for being inferior.
-Which is way he frowns upon those who go out of their way to harass non-purebloods. To him, it's a stupid reason to go after someone and a waste of time.
-He mocks people and hexes them for his own entertainment or for revenge.
-"I only make decisions out of spite or greed"
-His parents have always referred to non-pureblood wizards as "mudbloods", so he's grown to normalize that word. He doesn't see it as a slur, just a regular term for those with muggle blood, and doesn't understand the heavy meaning it carries for those who fall into that category.
-He and Charity have a complex relationship. You can't tell if they really hate each other or if all those insults and death threats are just their love language. If they're not being snarky with each other, they're either talking shit about others together or enjoying Charity's secret stash of weed.
-Smoke buddies with Mulciber and Snape. It only makes his breathing problems worse, but does he care? Absolutely not. And it's not like he would admit his weakness anyway.
-Deeply resentful of his condition and hates being deprived of so many things, so he takes it out on the world and everyone around him. That's the main reason of his assholery.
-Aside from his sickness, his magic presented later than normal, so his parents began to assume he was a squib. They grew cold with him and conceived another son to replace him, a healthy and strong boy whose magic manifested soon enough. They doted on him while Avery watched from the sidelines, slowly being removed from the family's picture.
-All changed when his little brother fell from his broom one day and entered a coma. Their parents tried everything to save him and, in the meantime, Avery's magic awakened and his health improved a little. His brother ended up dying anyway and his parents began to pay more attention to Avery, but he ignored them or brushed off their words.
-It's rumoured that he caused his brother's death to absorb his magic and ensure he was the only heir to the Avery fortune. He has never acknowledged this rumour.
-Hates bright colours, which is another reason he clashes with Charity.
-Dark humour enthusiast #2. He's usually the one telling the jokes while Snape laughs at them.
-Secretly craves the same level of comfortability with skinship and affection as some of his friends, but can't bring himself to join them. Doesn't know how to, so he convinces himself he's above that.
-Raging homosexual. He struggled to accept it at first, not because homophobia, but because he couldn't stand being attracted to anybody.
-Needs a can to walk most of the time. However, he's ready to withstand the pain to run away from consequences or to spite people.
-He and Wilkers are more than friends. They haven't labelled it yet but their friends know and are waiting for the shoe to drop.
Tumblr media
Bruce Mulciber - Slytherin
-Also known as Mulci by his friends. Pretty much like Avery, very few people call him by his first name.
-He was named after his uncle, one of Voldemort's first followers, who ended up in Azkaban for his crimes in the First War and lost his sanity. He grew up hearing stories about him, about his "bravery" in fighting for the Dark Lord and the "cleansing" of the wizarding society. As he becomes older, he becomes terrified of ending up like his uncle.
-He feels that naming kids after dead relatives is like placing a curse upon them, as well as an unnecessary heavy weight on their backs
-He and Aurora are distant relatives, both of them being related to the Zabini family. They've known each other before Hogwarts.
-He and Avery have known each other since they were on diapers and they've been glued to the hip since then. He's the one who "translates" Avery when he's being a rude bitch, by just repeating what he said with easier words.
-Group clown #1 and a prankster. When he's not giving the marauders a run of their money with Avery, he's joking around with his friends. Rarely takes anything seriously.
-The tallest of the group, a trait that he makes use of a lot. He also looks older than he really is.
-He has an older sister, who's openly favoured by their parents despite not being the designated heir. She and Mulciber have a cold relationship.
-He uses humour to deflect personal questions and hide how he really feels.
-"If I can laugh about it, then it doesn't hurt"
-Has a dark sense of humour, but it's not really sadistic. He doesn't see the point of inflicting serious pain without a reason.
-He doesn't trust muggleborns, simply because they haven't been raised with the same culture and so he believes they would disrupt the magical society. However, he thinks, if they assimilated the wizarding traditions and left behind the muggle world, he could accept them.
-He feels contempt towards muggles and refuses to interact with them personally. His family has had bad experiences with them in the past and he sees them as destructing creatures that ruin things because of their greed.
-Like Avery, he won't go out of his way to hurt non-purebloods without provocation. He doesn't see the appeal.
-Sees Dorcas more as a sister than his biological one.
-Plays on the Quidditch team as a Beater. He doesn't have the best aim, but makes up for it with his strenght and fluid movements.
-He tends to forget Snape is actually a girl, so he treats her the same as any other dude he's close to and sees nothing wrong in her hanging out with them in "boys activities".
-His friends tend to steal his clothes for themselves because they're so big and warm. He doesn't bat an eye anymore.
-He's a subpar student and struggles a lot, so he gets Snape and Aurora to tutor him.
-It's really attached to Avery and can't imagine a life without him. He doesn't say it, but he's perpetually worried that the blood curse might take him away one day.
-Due to spending a lifetime together, he can sense when Avery is about to have a seizure and knows all the procedures to assist him when this happens.
-Has been weirdly fixated on Mary McDonald since fourth year, much to his embarrasment and his friends' amusement. Because of her muggleborn status, he doesn't dare to approach her but he can't ignore her either.
-In the privacy of the dorms, he's a bit more calm and serious than people think.
Tumblr media
Dorcas Meadowes - Slytherin
-Dorky or Dork for her friends. Anyone else that calls her those will get hexed until they cry.
-Plays as a Beater along with Mulciber. Her bludgers always leave marks and she makes it so the pain lasts for a couple of days.
-A mean lesbian
-The only living heir to the Meadowes family, so whoever marries her would have to acquire her surname instead
-She and Marlene McKinnon have a complicated past, and it has led to a tense relationship in the present that not even they can grasp. Both groups of friends try to avoid these encounters.
-Childhood friends with Mulciber and Avery, which means she has also witnessed Avery's seizures as they grew and knows how to handle them.
-Her friendship with Mulciber and Avery is no longer what it used to be, but they still care deeply about each other.
-She doesn't agree with the blood supremacism and bigotry. One of the reasons she distanced herself a bit from her childhood friends.
-Has a lot of friends from other Houses, specially in Hufflepuff.
-She was bethrothed in her second year with a fellow Slytherin classmate. They get along fine but they're not friends. Acknowledging his existence can be uncomfortable for her at times.
-She and Snape hooked up at some on their fifth year, after Slytherin won a match against Gryffindor. Prior that, there had been some intense sexual tension between them for weeks.
-Only the gang knows about this, thought. One of their many little secrets.
-She can be impulsive and reckless, getting into fights for what she believes or simply to defend her pride. There's no between.
-If she thinks she's right, she'll make sure her point gets across and the other person feels stupid for talking back.
-She gets off men's tears
-Fascinated with muggle inventions and eager to know more. She bombards Snape and Burbage with questions at any chance.
-Mostly an average student, but shines in Defense Against the Dark Arts. She's terrible at Transfiguration, though.
-You wouldn't guess she's from a noble upbringing. She's a troublemaker, with a rash attitude, wearing her uniform in a messy manner and curses like a sailor.
-But if the situation calls for it, she knows how to pull off the etiquette and act like a perfect aristocrat lady
-"My mother didn't raise a fool. A psychopath, maybe, but not a fool"
-She's overprotective of her friends and more than willing to beat someone into a pulp for them.
-She's a bit of a tsundere. She bullies her gang constantly and acts like she doesn't care, but the minute they're in minimum danger she's freaking out and ready for war.
-She's open about her sexuality and has never felt asshamed because of it. She only feels frustrated because she knows she wouldn't be able to follow her heart after she graduates.
-She almost ended in Gryffindor, but the hat ultimately decided she was too ambitious and cunning for it.
-Hates Voldemort and the Death Eaters, seeing it as most of her family and friends are being sucked into that cult, while she can only watch. She leaves when someone in the common room brings up the topic, or else big ass fights ensues.
-She's only few inches shorter than Mulciber. She loves the feeling of towering above people and make them nervous.
Tumblr media
Evan Rosier - Slytherin
-Only the gang calls him Evan. Snape calls him Eve sometimes.
-Plays as a Chaser in the Quidditch team and it's also the vice-captain. He's considered the best Slytherin has had in years and has beaten records in his broom.
-He's grown up in the centre of a tough succession crisis, where he suffered multiple attempts on his life from his own relatives, and so it forced him into a permanent state of paranoia because he couldn't trust anyone or anything in his family.
-His cousin Pandora was the exception, since they were engaged at that time and so she couldn't benefit from his death, but they didn't talk much until Hogwarts.
-The engagement was called off by their own accord, since they grew to love each other as siblings, which made the idea of marriage disgusting to them. Althought, it's rumoured they had other reasons to do it. More personal reasons.
-When he arrived at Hogwarts, he was a fucked up kid in expensive robes and became known for lashing out at the slighest provocation.
-He was unpredictable and dangerous, like a tickling bomb, and so people stayed away from him, even his fellow Slytherin.
-He met Snape on first year when she sat next to him during some class. He was used to people being too afraid of him to aproach, so he was shocked that someone finally got the never. And a half-blood, no less.
-"I've been treated like a monster for so long that I forgot what it feels like to be looked at as a person"
-He and Snape clicked right away, and he was the first to accept her as a fellow Slytherin despite her blood status.
-He shares the room with Mulciber, Avery and Wilkes. It was a hellish experience at first, due to Evan's paranoia, until they were finally friends.
-He has improved a lot on his trauma, but there are still situations that trigger his extreme survival instincts, like someone touching him from behind.
-For obvious reasons, he's a light sleeper, and keeps his wand under his pillow.
-He also checks everything before eating it, changes the bedsheets himself and basically refuses to let anyone do stuff for him, in case it's manipulated.
-Because of this, he's an hyper-independent person and knows a lot of skills most rich pureblood kids don't, like cooking and cleaning.
-If he even eats or drinks something you made, it means he'll trust you with his life.
-Very protective of Pandora and sensitive to any comments that sound remotely offending towards her. He has sent people to the infirmary in her defense.
-Asking for help it's like saying "i love you" for him. He's admitting vulnerability to someone.
-He's incredibly good in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Again, for obvious reasons.
-His favourite subject is Potions, mostly because he loves watching Snape shine in the class.
-Has been invited to the Slughorn Club, but refuses to accept unless Snape goes too.
-Doesn't really buy into the blood supremacy rethoric, but believes the muggle and wizard world should remain separated and never interact with one another.
-His family trauma has left a permanent mark on him, in the form of sadistic tendencies, insomnia, and a very high pain tolerance.
-Beneath his calm and smooth demeanor, he's still that feral child willing to torn anyone into pieces if he deems it necessary and fantasizes about bathing in his enemies' blood.
-Another dark humour lover, but like, very fucked up. There are times only Avery laughs while the others look at them concerned.
-He's cousins with Bellatrix, Andromeda and Narcissa through his father's side, so he's grown close to House Black.
-Snape and Pandora are the only people who can calm him down when he's mad. He'll only listen to them.
Tumblr media
Wilhelm Wilkes - Slytherin
-He prefers to be called just "Will" by his friends. Wilkes is for everyone else.
-They also call him WilWil to mess with him. He shakes his head when they do, but he's instantly smiling.
-Formerly a Durmstang student, until he transferred to Hogwarts in third year, for unknown reasons.
-German father and British mother, so he's fluent in both languages.
-The hat considered putting him in Hufflepuff, but it eventually decided he was better off in Slytherin.
-A cinnamon roll that could and would kill you
-People have a hard time linking him to Slytherin because he's so sweet and kind with everyone all the time. He stays out of trouble and the teachers like him. Younger students look up to him.
-Classy gay that gets along better with girls than with boys, and cares a lot about his appareance.
-Big and bulky, gives the best hugs and makes you feel protected.
-Quidditch team captain and Keeper.
-He and Pandora were bethrothed in third year to unite both families. He wasn't thrilled with the idea, but he prefers Pandora over some stranger. They also have some secret agreement regarding the union.
-He has psychopathic tendencies, but hides them well.
-Sunshine boy. Even Gryffindors are somewhat friendly with him.
-He trips a lot and clashes with things.
-The clumsiness dissapears when he's duelling, though.
-Always in a good mood, greeting everybody when he arrives to class with a huge smile. It's rare to see him serious or angry.
-"Don't mistake my kindness with naïvety. My reluctance to violence doesn't mean I'm uncapable of it"
-The only person that enters History of Magic with a smile and actually asks questions to the teacher. His housemates see this as another proof of his madness.
-He's not as innocent as he looks. He's a Slytherin for a reason.
-The only time his clumsiness dissapears is when he's duelling.
-Secretly, his favourite subject is Herbology. It gives him joy to care for plants and helps him relax.
-Naturally good with children and animals, so the younger slytherins often go to him for help or comfort.
-He and Avery are golden retriever/black cat coded.
-Excuses Avery to people when he offends them and drags him out of the conflicts.
-He often agrees with the boy's mean comments and chuckles with him, but doesn't let it show because of his good boy reputation.
-He sneaks into the girls' dorms a lot to spend time with them and even sleeps there sometimes.
-Due to his good grades and reliable nature, he was chosen to be Prefect.
-Extensive knowledge in Dark Arts, courtesy of Durmstang.
-He rarely gets angry, but when he does, it's absolutely terrifying.
-People have a hard time denying him anything because of his face. His puppy eyes are deadly effective.
-He and Pandora get along great despite their arrangement. He's very fond of her and viceversa, and they both agreed to try make the best out of the situation when it comes to it.
-He's very physically affectionate. Cheek kisses, forehead kisses, hugs, cuddles, cute nicknames. Everything. It's hard to discern when it's platonic or romantic.
-He has a lot of admirers.
-Actually indifferent to violence, unless the victims of it are people he cares about. If he saw a random corpse, he would simply shrug it off and go call someone to check it, or examine it himself out of curiosity.
-He and Avery have an on-and-off relationship, but they always remain fiercely loyal to each other. It's an emotional mess no one else is allowed to meddle with. Unless they want to suffer.
Pandora Rosier - Slytherin
-Mostly known as Dora by her loved ones. She's not as attached to the Rosier name as Evan is.
-She was raised separatedly from the crisis succession mess, in a different house from his relatives. She only saw them all in family dinners, where fights were strictly forbidden.
-The reason for this was that she was born with a rare gift, an extension of Legilimency that allows her to see people's emotions and their thoughts without even trying. This made her very valuable for her family, as they all coveted such gift.
-Which is why she was engaged to Evan. They wanted to ensure the gift remained in the family, away from others.
-Until she learnt how to shut it out, she was constantly hearing everyone's minds at once in her own head and sensing their emotions as if they were her own, overwhelming her to the point of anxiety and several bursts of accidental magic.
-She can also project her own thoughts unto others and show them what she's thinking.
-She knows everything before anyone else does. She's always one step ahead in most situations. Like nothing ever surprises her. She keeps what she knows mostly to herself.
-There are rumours she might be a Seer too, but only a fool would believe that, right?
-She's very introverted and wary of people. Her overprotective upbringing thwarted her social skills, along with her gift.
-Most people who have approached her hadn't done it with genuine intentions, so it fed her general distrust towards others.
-She and Evan didn't have a close relationship until Hogwarts, despite being engaged. They broke off the contract on their first year, despite their family's protests.
-Snape is the first person she hasn't been able to read instantly, which sparkled her curiosity and fascination towards the girl.
-When she found out Snape was a natural Occlumens with a spark of Legilimency, she was delighted at finally meeting someone similar to her in that way.
-But mostly, she was happy to meet someone she could actually get to know like a normal person instead of already seeing everything about them from the first moment.
-This new found obstacle in her gift frustrated her, because she relied on it heavily to navigate the world around her, and also thrilled her, because it was something new for once. A change.
-As they grew closer and began to trust each other, Pandora was able to see more and more of Snape, but only as far as the girl allowed.
-She and Snape talk to each other a lot through their Legilimency. It's common to see one of them chuckling or frowning out of nowhere and throw a knowing look at the other, with no words exchanged.
-Due to her struggles with verbal communication and getting people to understand her, she usually shows her thoughts to Snape or Evan first and then they help her put them into words.
-(She has Helaena Targaryen vibes. If you know her, that's pretty much Pandora's character)
-She's very eccentricy and chaotic, which only fuels people's waryness of her. The only reason she's not downright bullied is because of her family (and Evan).
-Careful, though, she's far from naïve. She's every inch of cunning as any other Slytherin and doesn't forget a slight against her or her loved ones.
-"The thing about always seeing people for what they are it's the never ending amazement of how utterly fake people can be"
-After breaking off the engagement with Evan, her parents hurriedly tried to set her up with another pureblood, pressuring her to accept a good match soon. Out of all the candidates, Wilkes was the only one she remotely liked.
-Her favourite subjects are Astronomy and Divination.
Tumblr media
Charity Burbage - Hufflepuff
-Also known as Cherry. Don't you dare call her that if you're not her friend. She'll take it as an insult.
-She comes from a traditional British rich family. Very strict but loving.
-Muggleborn. Doesn't give a shit about being called "mudblood" and would answer to it with a smile just to be petty.
-She's the third of four sisters.
-Her father runs a line of restaurants, one of which is the where Snape works in the summers. After finding out the odd jobs her friend was taking to survive, Charity inmediately got her the job.
-The fact that it gives them the perfect excuse to meet more often during holidays and Charity can boss her around is pure coincidence.
-Looks like a cinnamon roll but could actually kill you #2
-The type to insult someone to their face with such grace that they don't process they're getting insulted until a while passes.
-Gossip queen. She knows everything about everyone, and it has nothing to do with a mysterious gift. She's just nosy and sneaky like that.
-A typical spoiled rich girl with a rebellious vein. A mean girl with an angel-like facade. She's a demon dressed in pastel colours.
-When she's really pissed at someone, all etiquette and grace goes out of the window and unleashes a torrent of curses that shocks even Snape, who's by far the most foul mouthed out of the group.
-"I'm an awful person. But I'm also rich and pretty, so it doesn't really matter"
-Fighting to get Hogwarts their own cheerleader team for the Quidditch matches because c'mon, can't they see how perfect it'll be?
-Also, she would have an excuse to design the uniforms and be the captain, because of course she would be.
-Bisexual. She's dated a lot of people before falling in love with Aurora.
-Charity had no chill and made her interest in Aurora publicidly known when asking her out. But she didn't harass her like J*mes Potter with Lily, until Aurora finally paid attention to her. Instead, she waited patiently as she wooed her and knew when to stop.
-She has a passion for gardening. Her room is fully decorated with different plants and flowers she religiously cares for. Because of this, she possesses an uncanny talent for Herbology, rivalling Professor Sprout herself.
-She's specially proud of the stack of weed she's been cultivating for years behind the teachers' back and that she only takes out for inter-house parties.
-She takes advantage that her common room is right next to the kitchen to sneak in for snacks whenever she wants to or to meet up with Snape when the girl is having insomnia again.
-Because of this, she has befriended some of the elves and knows their names.
-Cares a lot about her appareance and always makes sure to look her best in any situation, including emergencies. The type to take her time to escape during a fire because she doesn't want to be seen on her pyjamas.
-She's the one that gets Snape out of her shell. Convinces her to go out to Hogsmeade with Aurora and herself, drags her out of the library to take breaks, helps her with her social skills and overall just reassures Snape that she also deserves some happiness.
-Very clingy. Skinship comes of as necessary for her as breathing, so she's seen wrapped around people like a koala and cuddling with her friends. It makes her feel loved and safe.
-Knows more about people than she lets on. She has enough shit to blackmail them and even ruin someone's life.
-When she gets really angry, she becomes considerably quiet and uses few words. That's a sign she's plotting your ultimate demise.
-She and Avery have a confusing dynamic. They hate each other most of the time, either arguing or throwing insults whenever they're in close proximity, but they are times where they're civil towards each other in an almost friendly manner. They've been caught getting high together with no one else around, and judging people together as they sit side by side, all like it's an everyday activity for them.
-She enjoys when her friends rant to her about their passions, even if she doesn't always understand theml. She just loves seeing them so open and expressive with her, and she encourages those feelings.
-She aspires to become prefect only to share her duties with Aurora and spend more time with her, but her grades aren't high enough yet. She's constantly bitching about the female prefect because of this.
-She's very, very petty. Doesn't ever forget a slight and goes great lenghts to return the favour.
-Loves pastel colours and country music. You know she's been in the Slytherin common room recently by the colorful pamphlets and flowers she leaves behind to "light up the place" (although she does it mostly to piss off Avery).
-She does ballet since she was little. She practices whenever she has free time and performs in muggle shows. Gets the best seats for the gang, and not even Avery dares to miss a show.
-Because of this, she's very flexible, and combined with her short height, she can fit basically everywhere.
-She convinces the gang to go through a complete self-care routine with her. Face masks, snacks and everything. No one can ever say no.
Tumblr media
Aurora Sinistra - Ravenclaw
-Also called Rory by her friends. Charity lovingly calls her Roro sometimes.
-The voice of reason, constantly reminding them what the rules are and warning them when a certain idea is definitely going to get them in trouble. She never tries to stop them tho.
-She's usually the responsible one, but enjoys breaking the rules from time to time too. She blames her friends for being such a bad influence.
-One of the best students at Hogwarts. Straight A and a perfectly clean record. Gets along with the teachers. No one would ever suspect she's done anything wrong in her life.
-She does. Quite often in fact. She's just really good at hiding it.
-The Sorting hat considered putting her in Slytherin, but her thirst for knowledge eventually placed her in Ravenclaw.
-She excells at Astronomy and Ancient Runes, two of the hardest subjects in school. Hence why she's considered a brilliant student.
-Her long-term dream is to become a teacher at Hogwarts, specifically the Astronomy teacher. The short-term dream is to win Ravenclaw the House cup.
-She was selected as a prefect by both the teachers and her classmates.
-Lesbian. She kept a low profile about it until she fell in love with Charity.
-They met in a study group, on their third year. They clicked instantly, despite their differences, and became close friends quickly. They found every chance to meet up and spend time together.
-When she realized she had a crush on Charity, she panicked for a moment because she was afraid of ruining their friendship, and she wasn't ready to come face to face with her sexuality yet.
-Until Charity confessed her own feelings too and decided to make her courting with Aurora as publicidly as she could.
-Seeing Charity being so open about her love and her own identity gave her the confidence to embrace herself too, and so that's how they began.
-Her mother was born in the Zabini family, just like Mulciber's mother. She's particularly close to Belladonna Zabini (Blaise Zabini's mother), who sees herself as a mentor figure for Aurora while they're at Hogwarts and a big sister for Mulciber.
-It was Belladonna who introduced her to the intricate art of poisons and ancient runes. Aurora goes to her whenever she needs a certain substance for her own plans.
-Comes from a very rich, privileged background, but she was still taught the importance of hard-work and sacrifices. She knows that, in order to achieve her goals, she needs to earn them first.
-Charity introduced her to muggle shows and now she's obsessed with them. She's working a way to bring electronic devises to Hogwarts purely to have a TV where she can watch them.
-She befriended Snape when Charity brought her to one of their study group sessions. Instead of being put off by the girl's snarky nature, she found her entertaining and a worthy intellectual rival.
"Attempted murder. Can you imagine how would that look in my reference letter? Everyone would know that I failed at the task"
-She already met Snape in their second year, when they were paired together for a Potions project. Aurora has always known of Snape's intelligence and respected her for it. The only reason she didn't reach out earlier was the girl's obvious retinance to anyone that wasn't Lily Evans or a fellow Slytherin.
-She never starts a fight, but she knows damn well how to finish one.
-When she wants to get back at someone, she doesn't do it right away. She waits it out, letting the person think it has been forgotten, and when they moved on, she surprises them with a carefully planned out revenge that they wouldn't recover from in a while.
-She and Snape sneak into the Restricted section of the library together whenever they can. They haven't been caught yet.
-She also loves research and developing new runes or spells. As long as she's gaining knowledge, she doesn't care if it's morally correct.
-If you want to do something forbidden or morally wrong, she's the person to go. She won't stain her hands for you, but she'll tell you step by step how to do it.
-She and Mulciber met through Belladona, but became closer when they both joined the gang.
Tumblr media
Bartemius "Barty" Crouch Jr - Slytherin
-Or if Daddy Issues was a person.
-His father has always been an absent but extremely demanding figure in his life and his mother tries her best to make up for it. It's not enough.
-He's completely, one hundred-percent devoted to be the best at everything so he can impress his father and win his approval. It's the thing he craves the most.
-He met Regulus on the train and talked his ears off the whole ride. They've been inseparable since then.
-He arrived at Hogwarts touch-starved and insecure, so when second year Snape showed him some kindness without second intentions, he glued himself to her and the gang like a lost puppy.
-If he decides to befriend you, he's going to do so. You cannot escape. He got all his friendships by annoying the shit out of them until they relented.
-"Bad attention is better than no attention at all"
-As a result of his lonely upbringing, he's actually very socially awkward and doesn't understand most social cues. He genuinely thinks that friendships are made when someone picks a person and "brands them" as their friend.
-ADHD. Since these disorders aren't widely known in the magical world, everyone just assumed that Barty was lazy sometimes and purposely loud. His parents considered him another case of a difficult child and tried to suppress that kind of behaviour by strict means.
-Despite this, he's managed to be a brilliant student and never get anything beneath an Outstanding in all subjects.
-He has hexed himself a few times to force his brain to concentrate at the task, but he only hurts himself and worsens everything.
-His friends helped him come up with methods that allowed him to concentrate in a way his brain could handle. He feels less stressed and anxious thanks to it, but he still puts a lot of pressure over himself.
-He and Snape bonded over their terrible fathers. Barty tries to defend his, while Snape straight out calls both men out on their shit.
-Has hyperfixations and struggles to keep his mind on just one thing at a time. Physically uncapable of staying put in one place for long. He needs to be moving and doing things.
-It's a vital rule in the gang to never let him taste coffee.
-He knows a lot of silly facts about all kind of topics he gets fixated on and he'll rant about them for hours to whoever is willing to listen. Usually Regulus.
-He was expected to end up in Ravenclaw, just like his parents and most members of his family. Him getting sorted in Slytherin was received with dissapointment in his house, particularly his father.
-He's been physically punished when he displeases his father or his performance isn't good enough to his standards.
-Loves quidditch and really wants to join the Slytherin team, but his father doesn't approve because "i'll distract him from his duties", so he simply goes to every match he can to watch.
-(He's canonically the only character to have taken 12 OWLs. Not to mention he managed to fool Dumbledore himself when he was posing as Alastor Moody and also manipulated the entire Triwizard Tournament so Harry could win, and no one suspected a thing. Boy is a fucking genius)
-Speaking of which, he and Snape are friendly academic rivals, like Aurora. They're constantly trying to outdo the other in class and get the most points.
-He and Regulus look up to Snape a lot and see her as an older sibling figure. In Barty's case, almost a maternal figure.
-The one thing he wants most in the world is validation. He spends every breathing moment in his life seeking it and drinking the smallest drops he gets of it. Seriously, anyone that shows him some sort of approval, will instantly win him over.
-His aspires to follow his father's footsteps and become a Minister, most likely to take his place after he retires.
-Takes his studies very seriously and gets mad when people distract him from his homework or studying sessions.
-Gay. Homosexual. Gay.
-His worst fear is dissapointing people.
-Panic attacks are to be expected during exams week and when doing homework. Or when his father mails him after the seeing the results. Or right before he returns to his house.
-He's been conditioned to turn away from any source of entertainment or superficial interests because "he can't afford getting distracted". Now he'll gladly join his friends in any fun activity they propose and plan them (as long as his father doesn't hear about it)
-Indifferent to the pureblood supremacy rethoric, although a bit prejudiced due to his father's teachings. He doesn't care if someone is a muggleborn or half-blood, but can be condescending towards them without realizing.
-A lot of repressed anger that's bound to explode.
Tumblr media
Regulus Arcturus Black -Slytherin
-Reg or Reggie for his loved ones. No one outside them is allowed to call him that. Unless they don't mind getting hexed.
-Was kind of a little shit when he arrived to Hogwarts. Snobby, arrogant, and prejudiced, pretty much like Draco. He slowly improves with the gang's influence, but not too much.
-The Seeker in the Quidditch team. He's good at it, but not exceptional.
-Contrary to popular belief, the Blacks aren't really royalty among purebloods, but they consider themselves as such. Regulus is no different.
-He's grown up spoiled and without ever having to lift a finger for anything. The type of rich guy that thinks dirtying his hands for something is below him, so convinces other people to do it for him.
-He used to be close with Sirius growing up, since they spent all their time together and they were still too innocent about the world they lived in. The relationship grew strained when Regulus started to envy Sirius' position and the latter began to reject the family's beliefs.
-By the time Regulus arrived to Hogwarts, they were more like acquaintances than anything. Sirius had his friends already, all of them so utterly different from the people Regulus was supposed to mingle with, and that was it.
-Deep down, he feels sad for having lost the contact with his brother, but comforts himself that "Sirius made his choice".
-One of the reasons he stood up with his parents against Sirius during the disagreements, besides the fact he genuinely agreed with them on their beliefs, was because he didn't want them to get mad at him too. He never understood why Sirius just couldn't play along and make thing easier for everybody.
-His relationship with his mother is loving but complicated. He cares deeply for her and values her opinion a lot, but he feels her love for him is transactional. It'll exist for as long as he remains a good son in her eyes, and if he dissapoints her, she'll turn her back on him.
-Because the concept of hard work hasn't been drilled into him and he's used to get what he wants easily, he's not really a great student. He manages well enough so his parents don't get mad at him.
-He looked down on Snape at first, since she's a half-blood and so he believed her sole presence tainted Slytherin's prestige. Seeing how talented she was, surpassing him and many other purebloods, made him dislike her even more, because she defied everything he was raised to believe and defend ("purebloods are naturally superior and blah blah")
-He began to look at her differently when he saw Narcissa took the girl under her wing and openly doted on her. If his cousin deemed the half-blood worth of her attention, he trusted her judgement.
-Slowly, he grew to begrudgingly respect Snape and trust her. He still has prejudices and struggles to see her as an equal, but they're getting there.
-Deep down, he cares a lot about Snape and thinks of her as family. Although he much rather face a Crucio than admit this.
-While his views regarding half-bloods and muggleborns aren't quite the same as they were in his first year, he still believes firmly in pureblood supremacy and sees the non-pureblood wixen as second class citizens.
-Thinks that there should be separated schools for pureblood and those who aren't. This way, it'll all follow the "natural order".
-He avoids talking to Sirius, but when they cross paths, they usually throw snarky comments to the other.
-He plays a big role in helping Barty out of his shell and pushes him to have fun. In return, Barty motivates him to work harder.
-He and Barty are glued to the hip. You'll rarely see one without the other.
-Physically, he takes a lot after his mother.
-Always dressed in the finest clothes and using the most expensive tools. Appareances are a must for him.
-He and Wilkes are the only ones that genuinely enjoy doing Charity's self-care routines. Might be the only muggle thing he doesn't disapprove of.
-Doesn't know how to swim, but can keep himself afloat. He refuses to learn because "a man of his status doesn't need to learn such skills".
-Quite an egocentric, due to his upbringing.
-Secretly, he likes being coddled, but it's too embarrassed and proud to let it happen.
-He claims to find pranks childish and unbecoming of a pureblood heir, but he actually loves them. He'll cough and turn his head away to hide his reactions.
-Very close to the Black sisters, specially Narcissa. Refuses to admit it, but felt heartbroken when Andromeda left.
-He likes the Rosier cousins too, with Pandora being one of his best friends.
-He used to dream about becoming heir and prove he was better than Sirius, but when it finally happened, he realized such title came with new responsabilities and expectations he never had to face before, and he's not sure he can keep up with it.
-He can be very possessive with people and has a hard time "sharing" them.
random question: do you have any headcanons about Yoko? anything about her upbringing, her relationship with her lineage, how does she live as a witch in the modern era (where apparently even Dracula became just a myth), her general personality? ^^
OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD, NOT ORGANISED BECAUSE UM IM TIRED
- its said she works for the church, like sypha, so i imagine thats the family business. for centuries, the belnades have worked from the sidelines, assisting the church rather than facing dracula directly and only interfering when necessary, like in 1999
- yoko does not do this, because much of her childhood was spent around alucard :> he was responsible for much of her education, in both magic and battle. though her family handled the main things like elemental magic, alucard taught her bits and pieces of alchemy and more general spells, alongside tutoring her in how to actually fight. later on, arikado is responsible for having taught yoko how to perform weapon synthesis for soma, as well as teaching her about magic seals. since she knows alucard so well, she ends up wanting to have a much more active part in things than the rest of her family, and this culminates in alucard often letting her accompany him with his work and, of course, bringing her along in aria of sorrow and giving her the tip for the cult in dawn. unfortunate that julius left her at the gate lmao
- another note, i imagine shes related to julius through being related to trevor and sypha, and if sypha can result in juste happening, then i think trevors involvement left some traits in yokos family. mostly i draw her with the certified Belmont Eyebrows whenever i remember to, but also i imagine she has more physical combat proficiency than is usual for a bloodline of spellcasters working from the shadows. also if you havent noticed, yoko certainly looks a lot like juste and leon both :) i think if she tried using subweapons, she could probably pull off spell fusion too
- well, nobody really thinks witches are real, so similarly to how arikado lives as just Some Agent Guy, yoko lives as Some Church Employee Gal as far as the public eye is concerned. at most, her talents are viewed as not actually real, just fake stuff like mysticism and future-telling and etcetera. she definitely buys into this to try and cover herself, but shes kind of a bad liar? fortunately, people take her bad lying as just being embarrassed her skills arent as real as advertised (hint: theyre more real!)
- yokos general personality is described as kind but very nosy, and i think that works. she seems cheerful and peppy as a person, which is unusual for cv girls, who usually fit into the fridged wife model and not much else. i think that shes generally quite friendly, with a bit of hidden sass -- yoko reminds arikado a little bit of trevor, actually, which feeds into him being fond of her. she also has a bit of a short temper. however, she ends up being kind of an enabler for arikados shenanigans, which is a Problem. yoko is a very bad liar, but only with Direct lies. if she says something true to avoid saying something else, shes perfectly fine, for example. that happens a lot in aos. as well as that, despite her misgivings, she helps arikado with things like manipulating soma and visiting minas shrine, and shes also technically complicit in his use of julius. ... this adds a layer of unspoken guilt and deceit to all her friendships shes made, which tends to eat at her quite a lot, but she cant talk about it for worry of troubling arikado as well, who is really trying to avoid the consequences of his actions and she doesnt want to fuck that up for him because, yknow, hes basically like her weird ??? semi-relative slash mentor thing, she respects him and hes probably the closest friend she has. but that means her friendships with soma (who she helped manipulate), mina (who she helped endanger and keeps tabs on for arikado), and julius (whose use as basically a tool in aria she was complicit in) are all layered with her hidden deceit and feelings of guiltiness. i sure hope that doesnt blow up in everyones faces one day combined with her inability to lie properly!
- forgot to fit this in earlier, but she probably feels the weight of syphas legacy on her a lot, since. she hangs out with arikado lmao what can you expect. she tries to avoid this by dressing like cviii alucard instead of sypha, she uses his colours and everything. hes totally not touched by it despite the mixed intentions
misc hcs:
- as you can tell, i think she was basically arikados accomplice in aos, and also that she was helping him with whatever plan he had in dos, before everything went totally topside when julius tagged along and soma crashed the party
- her mother (1999 belnades) fucking hates arikado lmao those bitches cant stand eachother. its mostly because of julius business but also she thinks arikado was the worst influence on yoko ever and shes RIGHT
- she got julius his job with the church partly because she felt guilty about arikado leaving him in the fuckin dust for however long and also not having done anything about it despite the fact she really couldnt in the first place
- she started visiting mina so arikado wouldnt have to do it directly so often, but they are genuinely close! to yoko, an only child, mina is very much like a sister of sorts (like is said in some materials and such)
- yoko is smarter than she lets on, but occasionally plays her supposed ditziness to her advantage. not often, but sometimes
- grahams presence in aria was because yoko was trying to catch him out in the first place and arikado figured it would be convenient to make it easier for her and him. that did not go as well as they planned lol
- yoko and arikado ride or die true and real in my head. yes he did use her as leverage when she was bleeding out on the floor yes he does genuinely care about her a lot yes she is aware of both these facts its Complicated okay
- She has a photographic memory.
- Mother is a police woman. Father is a nurse.
- Her mother offered to help train her with firearms when she was younger, but she was afraid of them so she refused. She eventually does learn in her mid to late teens. She also carries around pepper spray and other self defense tools everywhere she goes. Originally, Kris had very little if any kind of combat abilities, generally relying on her intelligence to get her out of sticky/dangerous situations. However, not long after meeting the turtles, and going on numerous adventures with them, they convince her to learn ninjitsu and she becomes a highly competent fighter, displaying proficiency in martial arts and marksmanship.
- Kristina is an only child, raised by her parents Westly and Lorie who were originally from Denmark. They moved to New York after they got married. Her mother was in an accident and couldn't bear/conceive children, so they used her father's sperm and had a friend be their surrogate.
- Her birth mom, the friend, is a lovely Egyptian woman. She is basically an aunt to Kristina, and even after finding out she is her birth mother, Kris continues to see her as an aunt and nothing else.
- Growing up, Kristina was fascinated by ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology. She studied it in her free time, and wrote, read, and watched things about it. One of her dreams was to become a Egyptologist from a young age. She longed to travel the world, especially go to Egypt and Greece. A few of her biggest role models growing up were Evelyn O'Connell, Indiana Jones, and Lara Croft. She dreamed of being like them one day.
- At age 15, Kris was able to get a part time job at a book store. She worked there till she graduated High School and eventually quit to become a librarian when she was 18/19. She also goes to the New York University (also known as NYU) to study to become an Egyptologist or an Archaeologist. Eventually somewhere along the line she meets the Hamato brothers. And she couldn't be more happy to have them in her life.
- Kristina tends to be a optimistic person and tries to look on the bright side of things. She can be a bit skittish at times, but she's confident in some situations.
- She's relentless in her goals.
- She knows how to write and read ancient texts, and understand ancient tongues. As an adult, Kris retains her passion for knowledge and becomes more mature and less frightened.
- During her teen years, Kristina said that she had no time for romances, despite her later feelings for Raph, and when finally wedded to Raphael Hamato, she became inseparable from him.
- Kristina is incredibly hyperactive, cheerful, intelligent, bubbly, and optimistic. She's kind to everyone she meets, never threatening or harming anyone directly.  Despite frequent scientific complications, Kris finds each failure as an opportunity to learn. She also admitted she had poor people skills and thought if she could help people, they would like her.
- She remembers the most random things. And likes to spew little weird facts at people.
- She's obsessed with books. She takes them with her everywhere. Literally everywhere. She always has at least one book on her person at all times. If you can't find her reading, she'll most likely be writing/drawing, practicing calligraphy or researching random facts.
- She tried to teach herself the hula dance from Lilo & Stitch when she was little, this resulted in her taking hula classes. Something she stopped during high school because, and I quote, "I just don't have the time". Though she does love to hula, and is pretty good at it.
- Kris has always been very serious about her grades. She's very smart, a classic nerd. She worked so hard, she never really made friends in school. She was always studying or doing some form of school work. She was constantly invited to things, but after a while of her constantly declining hanging out, people just stopped bothering to ask at all. This made her a bit of a loner in high school. But she had her books and she was mainly content.
- This is one of the main reasons why she cherishes the turtles friendship so much. Because she never really had any real friends before. It's a foreign feeling/experience but she loves it. And she does her best to be a good friend in return, despite her poor people skills.
- "For science!" a classic catchphrase of hers. Kristina will get herself in trouble/mischief sometimes and when lectured by a friend/family member she'll almost always respond with; "I had to do it, for science!" (or something of the sort)
- Curiosity may just be the end of her. (Raph definitely hovers and feels like he has to keep a close eye on her, lest she go off and do something dumb in the name of curiosity/science).
- She's obsessed with Donnie's lab. She thinks it's very cool and could spend hours in there if they let her. Kris and Donnie definitely go into little tangents, they could talk for hours about science and similar topics.
- Kris and Mikey are doodle buddies. I can honestly see them hanging out for hours just drawing with each other. They'd share little tips and tricks and show each other their art work. It'd be really cute and wholesome.
- She likes to read/draw/write/study while Raph works out. If you can't find her with Donnie, you'll most likely find her with Raphael. Sometimes she'll join him, but she'd rather sit on his shell while he's doing push ups, or lay underneath him, or off to the side somewhere and watch him work. She finds it very attractive, and she likes to watch him train. She thinks it/he's cool lol.
- (mainly for RiseLeo) Kris does not understand his jokes/puns a good majority of the time. Humor isn't really her thing, and sometimes she'll just sit there like; O.O. "I'm sorry, I didn't quite get that. Do you think you could explain the joke to me?" Leo probably either A) tries even harder to make her laugh/react. Or B) eventually just gives up entirely and tries to avoid telling her jokes. "Why do I even try with you?" (LMAO) I can totally see Leo telling a joke and Kris not understanding it, and immediately following up with the most bizarre fact and then Leo's the one who's confused/disturbed.
Leo: *pulls off some kind of cringey dad joke*
Kristina: "Did you know that a ducks penis is like a corkscrew?" (she'd also say this completely straight faced-)
Leo: O.O "Why- How do you even know this?"
(Either that or he'd be intrigued and want to know more of her weird ass facts.)
- IMAGINE: she's on a date with Raphael and all of a sudden just blurts out the most random/weird thing- he ends up choking on his food and she's patting his back all innocent- maybe even continuing on with her lil story.
Idk- I have more but imma leave it on that note so this isn't too long hehe.
Tumblr media
^^ her friends/family every time Kris opens her mouth to tell them the latest fact she's learned. ^^
💐💘💓 for Broly, N’Doul, and Tiflora
Let's talk about romance! Muse questions
💐 - What small things go a long way for your muse? What small favors can someone do to get on their good side? 💘 - What traits personality-wise are attractive to your muse? 💓 - What are some signs your muse has fallen for someone?
BROLY:
💐 - Leaving him alone is probably the best bet as paradoxical as it sounds. Sharing food is another but assure him by eating a small portion of it first in his view and let him approach at his own time. Small favors someone can do is give him some useful tools, pieces of knowledge over native flora / fauna, maybe a few supplies of things he can't find or access easily in the wild, and overall just letting him have his space and time without rushing things. He's a very solitary creature (rather a very isolated one) so don't expect him to warm up in a matter of days or even weeks. Entire months can go by before he tolerates someone to get a little closer.
💘 - It can be a bit of a mixed bag for him depending on who might've caught his eye. The common trait they all seem to have is having a certain backbone to back talk him when appropriate and even tease him back without slighting his pride. It's a certain 'spunk' he has a hard time ignoring. Another is having the constitution to still keep fighting or retain defiance even when he clearly can kill them at any moment, especially when he tests how far that trait reaches in making them think he might kill them. On the slightly flip side, if they're proficient in some type of fight or have an affinity for some form of skill in combat/duel, that goes well to catch his interest.
💓 - It's not subtle or blatant but he will spend more time in their presence and watch them when they aren't looking directly at him. Gifts of game he's caught will be left sometimes and he takes slightly more of an interest to what they do and how they do it. The next step after that is pretty much providing more quality time spent and breaches into beginning physical contact.
N'DOUL:
💐 - Acknowledge him is the most basic thing anyone can do for him. Spend time just to enjoy the silence or environment. Bringing him tea or apricots tends to get on his better side more often than not as they are favored creature comforts to enjoy. He takes a while to warm up but he is fairly easy to get along with most of the time.
💘 - Bold and decisive are key to him in short but take care to not become reckless as that has the opposite effect. Having an appreciation for silence is preferred but not a necessity so long as they can provide him with witty comments or amuse him in some way. Passion is another trait to be admired but how one shows it is what he takes keen interest towards and will spend as much time as needed to pick it apart.
💓- He will go out of his way to repay the kindnesses he's been given in learning what someone's favorite foods or beverages are and bring it to them should he be able to. He tends to tease them more just for his own amusement but takes care to not push it too far.
TIFLORA:
💐- Sharing a drink and sparring time to time. Doesn't have to lead to romance or anything that forming a sense of comradery at the most basic. Small favors could include buying her a drink once in a while to telling a good joke that gets her to laugh. Food never hurts but she'll purposefully try to 'shift' the entire tab over to whoever she's with just to see the look on their face before she covers the tab. It's mostly about the present that she focuses on.
💘 - There is a certain likening to those who uphold their duty or beliefs in some way regardless of their standing in power. They make the most of what they have and do it to the best of their capability but they aren't so stuck up as to deny help where its needed/wanted. Having a certain charm of humor or wit doesn't hurt either or having a strategic mindset. Lastly, being able to get up after being knocked down is a highly attractive trait even when the odds are impossible.
💓 - She has a habit to pick on those who catch her interest beyond being simple eye candy. She'll hang around them for a while before being direct and mentioning how cute they look/flirt with them. Invade their space a little, hang her arm around their shoulders and see how they react to her mischievous advances.
D&D OC - Rose
template from here:
BASIC DESCRIPTION
Full Name: Rose Pashar-Covenwood Age: (plot-dependent) mid 30s to 140 yrs Species: Tiefling (technically; Calishite & Illuskan) Gender: Cisgender Woman (she/her) Sexuality: Bicurious (fem-leaning)
APPEARANCE (FC is Antonia Thomas)
Rose is 5'1" (1.55 m), with tanned light brown skin and the toned physique of an average female in their thirties. Her curly hair is a brown so dark it's almost black, which is usually pulled back in a ponytail. Her eyes have bright blue irises with black slit pupils. Two small (1.5" or 3.8 cm), bronze horns rest on her head, and she has a forked tongue, fanged canines, and six fingers with black, retractable claws. Despite this, she's considered to pass for human better than most other tieflings and/or half-fiends. She wears medium armor: a bronze breastplate and bracers, which are worn over a close-fitting, long sleeved black dress with white lining, and black pants and boots. Sometimes she also wears a white cape and black gloves.
PERSONALITY
Neutral Good; Sorcerer (Arcane/Dimensional Magic): Rose is extremely loyal to those within her small inner circle. Though she typically is open to helping those in need, she isn't above using her natural intuition to manipulate people so she gets the outcome that benefits her most. When she takes on a case, she works extremely hard to close it, sometimes enduring weeks of hard travel and dangerous conditions to do so. Often, cases become "personal" to her when the creature(s) she's after has tricked her or stolen something of hers.
BACKGROUND
Her new life began when an illithid nautiloid fell and crushed her house, killing her mother and stepfather instantly. Little Rose had been playing in the nearby meadow, so she had survived. Shock drove her to run to the crash site, trying to find her parents amongst the rubble and flames. Some mindflayers managed to crawl out of their ship, and they were about to kill her before someone cleared their throat. Surprised, both Rose and the mindflayers turned to see a scruffy blond man. He muttered something under his breath and blew the illithids to pieces. He'd tell her that he was the John her mother always talked about--her biological father. John sent the eleven-year-old Rose to study with a wizard friend of his, to keep her safe from all the enemies he'd made during his time as a private investigator/wizard-for-hire (and to teach her how to control her inherited magic). Rose proved to be a great student, not to mention a naturally gifted magic user. Because her father was himself a talented warlock, and one who had made deals with several non-human beings (including devils), Rose was born with some demonic blood, which gave her her unique appearance and an edge in magical combat. She initially studied Conjuration, then realized she had an aptitude for Dimensional Magic. It wasn't long before she became an adult and set off on her own, earning money as a hunter of fiends, undead, and the occasional aberration.
SKILLS
Deception: natural talent for lying, shared with her dad Investigation: like her father, she's a PI for magical mysteries Arcana: her extensive education & her experiences Insight: she can read body language, intentions & motivations Stealth: Rose doesn't cast a shadow
OTHER PROFICIENCIES
Tools: dungeoneer's pack, a quill, a component pouch Spells: infernal wrath, banishment, black blade of disaster Languages: Common, Infernal, Draconic, Undercommon Weapons: two daggers, a short knife, a shortbow (& arrows) Race Trait: darkvision, low-light vision, thaumaturgy cantrip
Fate and Phantasms #238
Tumblr media
Today on Fate and Phantasms we're thinking big thanks to Kingprotea, the last of the Sakura Five (so far) to enter the Grand Order. She big. That's her whole schtick. We've done this before with the Berserker of Learning with Manga, but back then we were fettered by things like "other goals" and "being a small character". Not so today. Today we push the boundaries of the Big Character Meta to their utmost.
To do so, we're picking up the old favorite: Rune Knight Fighter. Grow big, hit things, real simple. Less simple is her other class: Wild Magic Sorcerer. We're stealing from her mom's slot machine to (hopefully) push her to new heights.
Check out her build breakdown below the cut, or her character sheet over here!
Next up: The next servant could really use some moisturizer. She's looking kinda ashy, y'know?
Race and Background
Most D&D games don't include artificial intelligences, so normally we'd go Custom Lineage here. Buuuuut KP's big, fuzzy, and has really big arms, so Bugbear is a pretty good pick too. She gets +2 Strength and +1 Constitution, plus a bit of Darkvision to style on those tiny humans. Surprisingly little light in space, so this should help out. You're also Long-limbed, giving you an extra 5' of reach on your turn, and you have a Powerful Build to make you count for one size larger for carrying stuff. Basically, you have doubled carry capacity. You're also Sneaky for proficiency in stealth, and can make a Surprise Attack against a surprised creature once per combat. Nobody notices kaiju until they're right on top of them. If they're really unlucky that's literal.
KP got kicked out of the Existing Club for a bit, so that means she's a Hermit. She gets Medicine and Religion proficiency from it, which we really didn't need but we don't need many skills so why not. Her mom's a doctor and she's kinda-sorta part god.
Ability Scores
Your highest score should probably be Constitution. KP's max HP breaks past the 45,000 marker in a game where 16,000 is a lot. After that is Strength, you need this one high just to be able to sit up in reality. Turns out several stories worth of girl is heavy. After that is Charisma. Depending on who you ask, Kingprotea is either adorable or terrifying, both charisma skills. Your Intelligence is slightly above average- I've never seen KP do long division but she is still an AI from the future. This means your Wisdom is low, since it's really hard to spot individual people when they all look like little dots, and we're dumping Dexterity. I'm sure you're nimble for your size, but I'm sure even olympic gymnasts have issues avoiding mosquitos.
Class Levels
Fighter 1: Starting off as a fighter is cool, you get proficiency with Strength and Constitution saves, plus Athletics and Intimidation. You're really good at (admittedly very specific kinds of) sports, and being 50' tall makes it real easy to scare people. You also get a Fighting Style to punch people real good with Unarmed fighting. If you've got one hand free, it's 1d6. If you've got both, it's 1d8. You also get a Second Wind once per short rest for a bit of healing using your bonus action. We aren't getting any ways to actually grow your HP total, but at least you've got the healing factor down.
Fighter 2: Second level fighters get an Action Surge once per short rest, giving you a second action in a single turn. Punch with the right hand, then punch with the left. You're practically a monk already!
Fighter 3: Third level fighters learn a martial archetype, and you already know we had to go Rune Knight to get big punches. You get another tool proficiency with smith's tools, and you can use these tools to become a Rune Carver, adding one rune each to two objects that are weapons, armor, shields, jewelry, or anything else you can hold in one hand. Your hands are big, so... everything, basically. WotC really doesn't expect people to be bigger than medium. Wearing or holding the runed item gives you a passive buff, and you can invoke the rune as a bonus action once per short rest for a more substantial power-up. The frost rune gives advantage on Animal Handling and Intimidation checks, and invoking it gives you +2 to all Strength and Constitution checks and saves for ten minutes. In case it wasn't obvious, that's where we're sticking all our ASI into. You also get the Stone Rune, giving advantage on Insight checks, and an improved darkvision. 60' isn't even enough for you to see the ground sometimes. Invoking this rune forces one creature to make a wisdom save against your constitution. If they fail they're charmed for a minute, become incapacitated and gaining a speed of 0. Oh right, also you get Giant Might. As a bonus action you can grow Large for a minute, get advantage on strength saves and checks, and once per turn you deal an extra 1d6 damage on a hit. You can grow proficiency times per day. Humble beginnings, but we'll get bigger later.
Sorcerer 1: And by later I mean right now, surprise! When you become a Wild Magic sorcerer you learn some Spells that you can cast with your Charisma. For cantrips, pick up Blade Ward for thicker skin, and Booming Blade and Thunderclap to slap people around, and Acid Splash. Most of our spells are going towards acting big, but you can summon the Kshira Sagara, and as we learned in Lostbelt 4 you do not want to get stuck in there. For first level spells, pick up Mage Armor for even thicker skin, and Earth Tremor to kick up some serious dust. The former makes your AC 13 plus your dexterity modifier- so, 12. The latter breaks up the stone and earth around you, dealing bludgeoning damage and turning the area into difficult terrain. And it's an aoe spell, that gets better and better the more you grow! The range gets bigger, at least. And more importantly, you can get an Wild Magic Surge when casting a spell of 1st level or higher. If your DM chooses, they can make you roll a d20. If you roll a one, then you have to roll on the Surge table. If that isn't consistent enough for you, Tides of Chaos will force the issue a little more, giving you advantage on one attack, check, or save once a day. Your DM can recharge your Tides by forcing a roll of the surge table after you cast a spell, so keep those tides low for maximum effect! The reason we've picked Wild Magic this time is simple. If you roll a 93 or 94 on your surge table you grow one size for a minute. It's not very reliable with only a 1/50 chance, but cutting edge technology never is.
Fighter 4: Use your first Ability Score Improvement to bump up your Strength for harder hitting.
Fighter 5: Fifth level fighters get an Extra Attack each action. That's two attacks per turn, or four with an action surge.
Sorcerer 2: Second level sorcerers become a Font of Magic, giving them sorcery points you can spend to create new spell slots, or spend spell slots for more points. They'll be more useful later. You also pick up Catapult, so you can throw objects at creatures to deal some damage if they fail a dexterity save. You can probably do that without the spell tbh.
Sorcerer 3: Third level sorcerers get the real reason we're taking this class, Metamagic! Extended Spell doubles the duration of the spell you cast, and Subtle Spell lets you cast a spell without using verbal or somatic components. Most of your spells are just... things you do. Things like Enlarge/Reduce, growing or shrinking you by doubling/halving all your dimensions and growing you by one size category. This doesn't really work going from large to huge, but if you're lucky you'll get large from Rune Knight and huge from a Wild Magic Surge, so this will turn you from huge to gargantuan, which will make the doubling work again.
Sorcerer 4: Use this ASI to bump up your Constitution for stronger runes and a stronger you-nes. You get an extra 9 HP this level since your HP scales retroactively, is what I'm saying. You'll need it, sorcerer hit dice are trash. You also pick up Gust and Hold Person. You are so big you can literally Hold People, and sometimes you don't want to crush them, you just want them to scootch to the side.
Sorcerer 5: Fifth level sorcerers get Magical Guidance, letting you re-roll a failed check by spending a sorcery point. You're so good at knowledge skills now it's almost like you're a supercomputer or something. You can also use Thunder Step to teleport you and up to one other ally up to 300 feet away and dealing thunder damage in the area you just left. A thunder step, or as you call it, a "step". You can also carry items up to your carrying capacity while teleporting. We'll go over this more in the pros & cons, but trust me, it's high.
Fighter 6: Back in fighter now, you get another ASI. Use this one to bump up your Charisma for a higher spell save DC, and scarier "Gao"s.
Fighter 7: Seventh level rune knights can use their Runic Shield to make blows just glance off their body. Or use your big-ol arms to protect your allies. When you see a creature get hit by an attack and they're within 60' of you, you can use a reaction to force the attacker to re-roll the attack proficiency times per day. You can also carve the Hill Rune into an item, giving you advantage and resistance against poison. Invoking the rune gives you resistance to physical damage for a minute, just like a barbarian.
Fighter 8: Use this ASI to max out your Constitution for as much health as possible. Yeah, that's it.
Sorcerer 6: Sixth level wild mages can Bend Luck as a reaction, spending two sorcery points to help (or hurt) another creature's odds of success at an attack, save, or check, adding/subtracting 1d4 to the roll. You have to choose between this and Runic Shield to protect your friends, but the latter is free, so it's not much of a contest. You can also cast Erupting Earth, turning a 20' cube of earth into difficult terrain and dealing bludgeoning damage to anything in the area. Stepping is nice, but now you can throw giant rocks at people.
Sorcerer 7: Seventh level sorcerers get fourth level spells. That mossy onsie you put on sometimes is made of dirt, so grabbing Stoneskin isn't totally out of the picture, giving you resistance to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing. Again your rune knight feature is better, but some backup doesn't hurt.
Sorcerer 8: Use your last ASI to become Tough for an extra 32 HP now, and two more every time you level up. You can also cast Dimension Door now. You tend to make a lot of difficult terrain wherever you go, so it's nice to have a way out of sticky situations.
Sorcerer 9: Our last level or sorcerer gives us a fifth level spell like Bigby's Hand. It makes a big hand that does a lot of stuff. Block damage, hold people, crush people, move objects, there's a lot to love. (Honestly your own hand should be able to do plenty of this by now, but a spell's nice too if you ran out of Mights.
Fighter 9: Ninth level fighters are Indomitable once per long rest, letting you re-roll a failed save. Don't use this on dexterity, it'll just hurt more when you fail.
Fighter 10: Tenth level fighters get a Great Stature, giving you an extra 3d4 inches in height normally, and your giant's might damage increases to 1d8. If you rolled really well on your height rolls up to this point, that means you're now nine feet tall, no magic required. I'd happily argue with your DM that this means you should be a large creature normally, but since you're missing that extra foot it's... quite a stretch. You can also use a Storm Rune now, giving you advantage on Arcana checks, and you can't be surprised. You can also invoke it to enter a prophetic state for a minute, giving you a special reaction to force advantage or disadvantage on nearby creatures' attacks, saves, or checks for up to a minute.
Fighter 11: Our last level nets you another Extra Attack per action. It's not flashy, but putting a dragon into the ground doesn't have to be.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
First off- you are big. Grow to large with Rune Knight, maybe grow to huge with a Wild Magic Surge, then double in size as a gargantuan creature thanks to Enlarge/Reduce. If you need an example to show how big that makes you, here it is:
Tumblr media
That yellow square is a normal character. That red square is Kingprotea. Add in your 10' of reach and you've got a silly amount of the battlefield under your control. And what control you have! With a nearly maxed out strength score, gargantuan size, and a powerful build, you can carry two to four thousand pounds (RAW it's the former since there's no "larger size" for powerful build to work with, but... c'mon.), and haul four to eight thousand in a pinch.
On a similar note, being that silly huge means your spells are massive as well. A normal person casting Earth Tremor breaks up the earth in a 5x5 square. You do it in a 10x10 square. They can hit up to 24 creatures, you can hit up to 64. And thunderstep is even stronger, since that takes your airspace into account. 74 cubes vs. 584.
You're also a massive roadblock, taking up tons of space to keep the enemy from reaching your squishier party members or whatever macguffin you're guarding. With almost 250 HP, resistance to physical damage, difficult terrain generation, and several ways to force disadvantage on incoming attacks, you can keep the hordes at bay for a good long while.
Cons:
Reaching your max size takes luck, so much there's a pretty good chance it'll never happen in a campaign unless your DM really wants it to. You'll still be as big as Bunyan otherwise, but it's not great.
It also takes time to grow that big. You can activate your Giant Might as a bonus action, but then you need to pull off a wild magic surge with your first action, plus another casting of Enlarge/Reduce on your second turn. That's two spell slots and two turns spent getting big.
Your low dexterity makes you a really easy target no matter your size, with only 12 AC protecting you, and a body so huge you'll never find cover. Also, you're not gonna have fun when the fireballs come out, but no kaiju likes getting hit with missiles so that checks out.
But you're not here for speed. Plop yourself down wherever it's least convenient, grow to take up the whole map, crush anything that's dumb enough to get close and outlast everything else. Just be careful about getting banished again, your charisma isn't that high.
Bigness Meta Update: Just putting this on the bottom bc I don't care enough to find two more downsides. Turns out the luck and time issues are totally not true. You can get to the advertised 30x30x30 size super easily in a single turn.
Step 1: Cast Enlarge/Reduce on yourself with your action, shrinking yourself. (It's just for a little bit, promise)
Step 2: Use your bonus action for Giant's Might, growing to Large.
Step 3: End concentration on Reduce to grow another size to Huge.
Step 4(optional): Cast spells until you hit a magic surge.
Step 5(optional): Pray you roll a 93 or 94 on the surge table. If this happens, you'll grow Gargantuan.
Step 6: (If you want to do all this in one turn, skip step 3&4 and action surge.) Cast Enlarge/Reduce again to grow Gargantuan, or double your size if you followed steps 4 & 5.
Step 7: If you waited for the surge, you'll be 40x40x40, otherwise you'll "only" be 30x30x30. Either way, you're big enough to give the Tarrasque a run for its money.
How to Play as Sasha Waybright in DnD 5e
Tumblr media
I finally got around to watching Amphibia, and I’ve elected the build the best character by a wide margin: Sasha Waybright. Sasha is the Brawn to Marcy’s Brains and Anne’s Heart. As the physical powerhouse of the trio, we need to be scarily effective in combat. After all, we’re a former cheerleader turned war criminal.
Tumblr media
Sasha’s a human, but the girls are all connected to the three gems that powered the Calamity Box. Marcy is connected to the green gem of wisdom, Anne is connected to the blue gem of empathy, and Sasha is connected to the pink gem of strength. Sasha’s eyes glow pink when she performs feats of superhuman strength, like prying Barrel’s Warhammer from the hide of a monster. As such, we’ll label Sasha as a Variant Human for +1 STR/+1 CON, Athletics proficiency, and the Dual Wielder Feat. Later, we’ll drop an ASI on the Skilled feat for proficiency in Deception, Persuasion, and Perception. We’ll drop a third ASI on the Tough Feat for more HP so we can handle a fight better.
For your background, you’re a cheerleader and had a garage band back home. I’ll call her an Entertainer for Acrobatics and Performance.
Sasha is selfish, but has a strict obsession with order and control. I’d label her as Lawful Evil. Remember, evil doesn’t just mean setting puppies on fire. It means loyalty to one’s own desires over the good of society.
Tumblr media
FIGHTER BATTLE MASTER
Sasha’s whole thing is control, and nothing lets her exert control over the battlefield as much as the Battle Master. You could make a case for Brute Fighter since it deals extra damage or Champion Fighter for their exceptional critical damage capability, but the Battle Master aligns the most with how Sasha approaches a fight. As a Fighter, we’ll give her proficiency in Insight and Intimidation, as well as the Dueling fighting style to strengthen her damage output with one-handed weapons.
Tumblr media
BASIC INFORMATION
STATS STR 20 DEX 14 CON 20 INT 8 WIS 10 CHA 12
FEATURES
Action Surge. Double the number of weapon attacks you can make in a turn twice per long rest. Combat Superiority. You have 6 superiority die that are d8s. Extra Attack. You can make four weapon attacks as a single action. Know Your Enemy. Study an enemy to discern their Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Armor Class, Hit Points, Class Level, or Fighter Level, and whether it’s above, below, or equal to your own. Improved Combat Superiority. Your superiority die become d12s. Indomitable. Reroll a failed saving throw three times per long rest. Maneuvers. You can choose 9 maneuvers from the Battle Master Maneuvers list. Relentless. When you roll Initiative with no Superiority Die, gain 1 Superiority Die. Second Wind. Recover 1d10 + 20 HP as a bonus action. Student of War. Proficiency in one set of Artisan’s tools of your choice.
I’m satisfied with the character build. We have all we need to control the battlefield. I can’t tell if Sasha will get gem powers like Anne, but from what she’s demonstrated by the season 2 finale, this is a pretty good parallel to her abilities she’s shown so far.
Building an Embodiment of the Fairytale Princess (2.0)
Tumblr media
This is nothing new. I’ve done this build before, which I’ll link right [here]. The post did really well, and people seemed to love the concept. However, since then, Mythic Odysseys of Theros and Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything have both come out, bringing with them not only new subclasses, but new features, spells, mechanics, and elements that I couldn’t take into consideration the first time around. So, I decided that rather than just adding a tag on post like I did before, I’d just remake the build with the new features being taken into consideration. Like before, the focus of the build is to create an embodiment of the generic fairytale princess and not any one particular character. So without further ado, let’s get into it.
Tumblr media
Like before, we’ll be choosing Variant Human for our race of choice. We’ll channel Sleeping Beauty to be gifted by the fey with blessings of Beauty, Grace, and Song for +1 CHA, +1 DEX, and Performance proficiency. We also get a bonus feat, and thanks to Tasha’s, we can now take Fey Blessed for +1 CHA. However, if she doesn’t cast with Charisma, then substitute those CHA bonuses with Wisdom instead.
The generic fairytale princess is a maid of purest heart, so we’re Lawful Good. But for your more rebellious princesses, Neutral Good or Chaotic Good are also valid.
Background is obviously Noble for proficiency with History and Persuasion.
Tumblr media
CLASSES & SUBCLASSES
BARD
This one seems pretty obvious. Bards love to sing and dance, like your stereotypical princess. Because Charisma is their top stat, and they have expertise, it can make them great negotiators, and allow them to excel in dialogue interactions.
GLAMOUR
This college is very fitting for a fairytale princess, as it is focused on making oneself as beautiful and charming as the Fairest of Them All.
LORE
Lore bards share information, whether they tell stories, recite plays, share philosophy, or spread juicy gossip, the Lore Bard gets more magical secrets, and added expertise to make your princess an even bigger Mary Sue. In actual medieval history, princesses often learned to play instruments and sing, recite prayers or poems, or tell stories to visiting guests, and it was considered a part of her education and duty to do so.
CLERIC
While not every princess is a devout religious girl, their stories tend to be set in the medieval period when a good princess would have been expected to be chaste and pious. So on that front, worshiping a good deity would be befitting of such a character.
LIFE
The fairytale princess raises up those they care about, and nothing is more supportive and helpful than keeping your friends on their feet. The Life Cleric turns your princess into a kind soul who weeps for her friends and patches them up after the battle, turning your princess into a useful ally against the wicked witches and dangerous dragons.
LIGHT
Not all Fairytale Princesses are passive or support players. Those who lean toward Light are the princesses who stand as the Big Good of their story and battle the forces of Darkness with the power of the Light. Of the three Cleric options that fit the archetype, this is the best option for being a powerhouse in combat.
PEACE
Don’t get me wrong, I still hate this domain for wearing the skin of the Love Domain we were supposed to get, and you can absolutely still play it that way. How this domain went from Love to Togetherness to Pacifism is beyond me, but it’s a fairly strong subclass. The classic princess archetype is supposed to be gentle and kind, fitting for one who worships a god of mercy and forgiveness. It’s a value often toted as the strongest characterization of the early Disney princesses.
DRUID
My first time building the fairytale princess, I ignored Druid as an option because the wildshaping didn’t really make sense for a fairytale princess, but a lot of the Bardic Magical Secrets were used to steal Druid spells. However, thanks to the optional rules from Tasha’s, Druids can now use their Wildshape to summon fey that take on the shapes of animals instead of turning into the animals themselves, which makes Druid far more viable, as summoning animals is very in-character for a fairytale princess.
DREAMS
The Circle of Dreams has heavy Fey associations with references to the Summer Court ruled by Titania. It also is strongly focused on healing, and has a very Fairy Tale flavor to it. It’s an especially great option if you want to invoke Sleeping Beauty, as you can cloak your party while you sleep and send messages to people through your dreams.
SHEPHERD
The fairytale princess is strongly associated with animal buddies, and nothing makes better use of that than the Shepherd Druid, which focuses on amassing an army of critters. What’s more, the Unicorn Totem is very fitting, not only because Unicorns only approach maidens with pure hearts, but Shepherds of the Unicorn Totem get empowered healing.
SORCERER
The sorcerer is born with a spark of something special in them, and a lot of fantasy royalty have magical powers that other people in their world lack.
DIVINE SOUL
The princess doesn’t literally have to be the descendant of the gods, as the original name for the subclass was more about being favored by the gods. Still, if you want to lean into the idea of the princess as the Big Good against the Big Bad, then having her be born with the spark of the gods inside her makes for a neat characterization.
WILD MAGIC
With the new Sorcerer Shards as I’ve come to call them, we were introduced to the Feywild Shard, which was heavily geared toward Wild Magic Sorcerers, which seems to be WoTC’s way of saying that Wild Magic Sorcerers are the fey-linked sorcerous origin, so I’m including it because of our fey connection.
WARLOCK
This is the only class where there’s exactly one good option, but it’s one that works surprisingly well.
ARCHFEY
As a Warlock with a Pact of the Chain, your fairytale princess can choose to Find Familiar any cute little animal companion, or a Sprite to be your Fairy Godmother. Or rather, you can sign a pact with your Fairy Godmother, and use your Chain Pact to summon one of her emissaries to help you. The Archfey patron themselves can act as your Fairygodther, granting you and your party boons and aid where they need it.
WARLOCK INVOCATIONS
Agonizing Blast Armor of Shadows Beast Speech Eldritch Mind Eldritch Sight Gift of the Ever-Living Ones Shroud of Shadow Voice of the Chain Master
Tumblr media
CHARISMA vs WISDOM
The big split in how you build your princess falls down the line between these two camps. The wise princess works better as a Druid/Cleric, while a charming princess is more of a Bardlock. For me personally, as much as the Cleruid fits the fairytale princess, the stereotype of the princess is usually that she is gullible, naïve, and overly trusting. Insight is a wisdom check, and something the classic princess archetype is usually bad at. Granted, Animal Handling is also Wisdom, but the Bard’s expertise can overrule a low Wisdom score. Think of it like a clash between Princess Zelda from the Legend of Zelda vs Princess Peach from Mario. Princess Zelda is wise and is much more focused on leadership and protecting her kingdom. Peach is more about the pretty dresses and having servants help her. They’re two very different camps on the princess archetype. Ultimately, which one you choose will depend on the type of princess you wish to invoke. The Classic Damsel or the Wise Matriarch.
Tumblr media
SIDEKICKS
A new feature added in Tasha’s, sidekicks are secondary characters that can help the party and are basically simplified character builds with fewer bells and whistles. There are three main camps:
Expert. Experts are clever and knowledgeable, be they minstrels, librarians, pickpockets, merchants, or assassins. They can pick proficiency with DEX, INT, or CHA saving throws, and can be proficient or an expert with any five skills of your choice, and humanoids also gain proficiency with light armor, simple weapons, and two tools of your choice.
Spellcaster. Trained in the secrets of the Arcane, be they a priest, a fortuneteller, or a magical creature. They can choose proficiency with INT, WIS, or CHA checks, and can be proficient in Arcana, History, Insight, Investigation, Medicine, Performance, Persuasion, or Religion. They choose a roll to determine their spell list: Mage (Wizard), Healer (Cleric, Druid) or Prodigy (Bard, Warlock). The sidekick has access to the spell list of the classes their role aligns with, as well as casting with that stat.
Warrior. trained fighters, be they a soldier, a city guard, a trained animal, or a hired sword. They can pick proficiency with STR, DEX, or CON saving throws, and their skill options are Acrobatics, Animal Handling, Athletics, Intimidation, Nature, Perception, and Survival. Warriors can pick a fighting style: either Offensive to add +2 to attack and damage rolls, or Defender to impose disadvantage on hitting creatures other than them while within 5 feet of the princess.
Generic Princess Sidekicks
Humanoid Guard Warrior (bodyguard) Humanoid Commoner Expert (handmaiden, governess, etc.) Humanoid Magewright Spellcaster (court mage, or advisor) Any Beast-type Warrior (animal companion)
Fairytale Inspired Sidekicks
Seven Dwarves - Dwarf Warrior Fairy Godmother - Sprite or Pixie Spellcaster Prince Charming - Humanoid Noble Warrior Wicked Witch - Barovian Witch Spellcaster Beast - Gnoll, Jackalwere, Orc, or Troglodyte Warrior Puss in Boots - Awakened Cat or Tabaxi Warrior The Frog Prince - Awakened Frog or Grung Warrior Three Little Pigs - Awakened Pig Expert, Spellcaster, & Warrior Big Bad Wolf - Wolf Warrior or Awakened Wolf Expert Robin Hood - Redbrand Ruffian or Bandit Expert Djinn of the Lamp - Dust, Ice, or Magma Mephit Spellcaster Pinocchio - Giant Stone Statue Warrior White Rabbit - Awakened Rabbit Expert Cheshire Cat - Awakened Cat Expert or Spellcaster
There is no actual limit to the number of sidekicks your character can have, so in theory, your fairytale princess could have an entire posse of talking animals hanging out and helping her.
Tumblr media
Skills, Spells, and Features
As a Variant Human, we got Performance proficiency alongside our Fey Touched feat, and as a Noble, we have proficiency with Persuasion and History. For everything else, we’re just looking to be a standard Fairytale Princess. So we should look to be proficient with: Animal Handling, Arcana, Religion, Nature, or Medicine.
Tumblr media
Last time I built the fairytale princess, I gave her exactly 1 build. 18 levels of glamour bard and 2 levels of Archfey Warlock. But recently I’ve begun to instead put more stock in leaving builds open, showing instead the options that a player has to choose from. So, for this update, I’m not pushing for a specific build. I’ve laid out the appropriate spells, and the types of princesses that a player can strive to emulate with their spell lists. Consider this more of a guide to help you decide how you want to play your fairytale princess.
So I watched an anime called “Violet Evergarden” recently, the elevator pitch of which is basically “feral girl is taken in by military man, turned into a child soldier, military man dies, but not before telling her ‘I love you’, but she doesn’t know what that means, so after the war she becomes a ghostwriter with the ostensible aim of figuring out what ‘I love you’ means through other people’s expressions of love via letter-writing.
It’s a good little concept, and while I enjoyed it, it’s also stuck in my brain as being profoundly odd from a storytelling perspective.
Like, the initial premise is v strong, Violet’s driving objective is to understand the last thing she heard her father figure, “The Major”, say to her before she blacked out and woke up with no arms. She was a feral orphan child with little grasp of language or expression, and so she is burdened with not understanding what this very important person to her was trying to convey before they parted ways. Good shit.
And it seems to carry this fairly well at first. Each episode varies in how much it advances the central plot, but each boils down to Violet having to learn a lesson about how people express their feelings for each other, how they express love through words, or how they fail to do so, and so slowly she goes from only being able to produce very precise and terse letters which read more like military reports, to being able to swoop in and fix people’s interpersonal problems with the power of a well-dictated love note.
Where it kinda falls apart for me is about halfway through the series, where we see that Violet has more or less grown into her role as protagonist in an anime about the power of letter writing and the meaning of love (-ish). She’s gotten so good she’s tasked with facilitating one half of a romantic correspondence between the nobles of two nations whose relations are still tense after The War (which Violet fought in), and so have decided to arrange a marriage between their noble children -- a 14-year old girl and a 24-year old man.
Now up to that point, the messaging around the central theme felt odd, but it made sense, like, Violet is growing to understand love, and so how the show does this is by giving her a lot of weird and fraught situations around that theme: we have a woman who is in love with a man, but she wants to play hard to get which Violet ruins by writing a letter that just directly states ‘I have no feelings for you, please stop calling on me’. So then she goes to letter-writing school where one of her classmates has an alcoholic brother who she wants to express her love and thanks towards, but doesn’t know how to pierce the barrier of grief surrounding him due to the death of their parents in The War.
It keeps on like this p consistently, the central question “What is love? What does someone mean when they say ‘I love you’?” is addressed fairly cleanly, but then, once the issue of Violet’s struggle with being able to convey people’s emotions becomes effectively resolved, we kinda start to leave the rails!
Back to the mid-point episode, so, through trying to properly convey this 14yo princess’ feelings, Violet learns what her true feelings are. No, it’s not that she is discontent with being forced to marry a man ten years older than her because, you see, they already secretly met at a royal party when she was, like...10?? And he found her crying and was, like, “Hey kid, you okay?” and that was the first genuine expression of human emotion outside of her dutiful maid she’d ever gotten. You see, what her discontent is is that she knows the man she met, with a heart so simple and pure he feels compelled to comfort a crying child, would never write these letters, and so Violet conspires with the prince’s ghostwriter to allow them to have a more honest correspondence (which is then reprinted in all the newspapers around both countries.)
What got me about this episode is how it, like, throws all these different narrative threads in the air around this central theme of “What is love?” -- the concept of arranged marriage, the idea of confusing appreciating someone’s kindness for having other feelings for them, the MAID who is, like, the princess’ closest friend and confidant, but who has to explain that, once she’s married off, they will have to part ways because she doesn’t serve the princess, she serves the royal family and there’s this great scene where the princess is weeping after she says that and the maid is like “I cannot accept that command, I will continue standing here right by your side” and it’s really intense!
But then...it all gets dropped in the interest of the final note being...yeah sometimes you have to marry a guy in his twenties when you’re just a teenager, but love’s just funny like that ig!
Which sounds ungenerous, and like, I wanted that to be the case, I wanted it to be setting up something, like, “Despite Violet gaining proficiency in letter writing, she still is struggling to understand the more nuanced dimensions of love and so her shortsightedness will come back round to bite her in the ass” (it does not, we even get a montage of all the people she’s helped including the newly married royal couple smiling happily at the camera.)
We then get more episodes like this, where Violet’s done learning about Love and is now in effect teaching it to others. She does this by...sitting and looking pretty with a guy while they wait for a comet to go by, imitating a playwright’s dead daughter so he can be inspired to finish his play, and...writing a bunch of letters on behalf of a mother dying from anime mom disease, but who wants to be able to speak to her daughter as she grows up through a series of pre-written birthday letters.
And, like, in isolation, it’s all very moving! Each story has a very touching emotional drive to it, but it seems like the question of “What does ‘I love you’ mean?” p much falls to the wayside, even after we get the big 3/4s of the way through reveal that the Major is dead and Violet didn’t know! So we’re treated to flashbacks of their relationship, including the moment where he repeats that damning phrase!
But then we really don’t pick it back up again? It kinda superficially grows in relevance as we approach the conclusion, but it’s never again properly addressed until after a sudden spat of military drama breaks out with people trying to reignite The War and Violet suddenly having to put down her typewriter and pick up her combat knife, but now, for some reason, she refuses to kill people because...she isn’t just a tool?
And I think this is what ultimately frustrated me, is that those are two great themes “Discovering what it means to love” and “Can a person conditioned to fulfill a specific purpose ever be free to choose their own path?” but the problem is, the series really has centered itself on the former while kinda sorta implying the latter, but in the final scenes, we are suddenly given a resolution to the latter (which is basically Metal Gear Solid, “You are not your DNA”, “Just live Snake” that’s been done beautifully and with more thought already by, well, Metal Gear Solid) whereas the former, what was the entire driving force behind Violet’s character development is kinda sorta hand-waved off as “What is love? I still don’t think I know, but maybe that’s just how it is!” which is fucked up coming from someone who by the midway point is basically counselling or facilitating love between people!
So, like, I enjoyed it a lot, there were some great moments and the supporting cast, while mostly one-dimensional save for Violet herself, made for at least nice scenery, but I’m just so blown away by how they seemed to manage to forget (or ceased wanting) to tell the story they laid out in the beginning in favor of some p uniform military drama that suffered precisely because most of the series was dedicated to developing the central theme that it ultimately seemed to abandon, or perhaps came across as being burdened with having to carry into the conclusion.
Also it was super fixated on dads, like, The Major is basically Violet’s dad, his best buddy who goes on to hire Violet as a ghostwriter has a big reveal in the end that he’s been writing letters to his hypothetical future child, the sad dad playwright with the dead daughter -- I dunno what to do with all this besides the usual base level of suspicion I have for all dead-heavy content, but yeah!
There’s two movies, a side story from mid-way through the series and a sequel, and I feel like I almost have to watch them at some point, just so I can tie a neater bow on how I experienced this whole story, but yeah, Violet Evergarden, come for the cool metal typing hands, stay for the heartfelt explorations of what it means to love people, shift nervously in your seat when dads suddenly become involved!
SWITCHY EMOJI I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND FOR AGATHA, VITA, DIANA, THEO AND KORE. PLEASE.
OK, SO LET ME YELL ABOUT THE WITCH AND THE BEAST AU THAT LIVES RENT FREE IN MY HEAD.
Thank you for the ask!! ❤
Vita is basically Phanora Kristoffel, lol.
Joking, kinda. Basically to take things in order, I imagine Diana, Agatha and Vita as one team, and Theo and Kore as their own team within the Order of Magical Resonance which is a group by magic, for magic and of magic. They deal with all sort of odds jobs that involve the misuse of magic, except that they are by no means a legal organization. Their members are without a doubt all rather odd, but they get the job done at least.
TW: dark themes under the cut
Vita Dies
A powerful necromancer, who also happens to be a witch. She’s of an old family that specializes in this craft. A beautiful but deadly woman who practices the art legally and ethically wherever it is permitted. Because witches in TW&TB live longer than normal humans nobody is sure for how long she has been alive. She deeply enjoys being cryptic and teasing towards mortals and mages alike, though for the most part seems to be aligned with the interests of the Order.
Her connection with the Order is shrouded in mystery, though many speculate it has to do with another young mage who joined with her at the time. The boy looks ghoulish and sinister, and seems to be suffering from the effects of a Witch Curse being placed on him. Vita denies being the witch in question. However she does seem to be responsible for the young Undead that follows the ghoulish boy around. It seems that the two were brothers once, but upon his death the older brother asked Vita to revive his by using necromancy. Since the law permits first-grade relatives to make such decisions she agreed to it, because she was impressed by his insistence even after she informed him of the consequences.
She runs her Undead on auto so they have full consciousness and can make their own decisions. She makes sure to maintain them regularly so their bodies don’t decay or their souls lose their humanity. They are practically indistinguishable from regular humans, which is due thanks to her status as a witch imbuing her with more magic than a regular mage would possess.
Her mage makes her extremely strong, but she prefers to leave the fighting to her servants. Still if need be, the cursed runes will appear on her body like in the case of any witch and she will not hold back at all. A witch’s power is fearsome after all so she usually uses it only if her servants find themselves overwhelmed.
She also has ties to another young mage whose fiancee she revived after the woman was killed due to a magical beast going haywire. The two have a very tense relationship and rarely come into contact, the only connection between them being the young woman who acts as Vita’s Undead servant.
In this AU she would most likely go by her full name instead, so everybody would call her Iovita.
She is currently in a relationship with the young ghoulish boy who asked to revive his younger brother, and who also happens to be her apprentice. Because a witch’s kiss can temporarily dispel the curse, her lover switches between his human form and his cursed form. She says she prefers his cursed form, because it is more “bewitching”.
She is usually called in for missions involving necromancy or strong magical opponents.
She avoids contact with the Paladin Corps since they are the natural enemies of witches.
This is what she would wear in this AU:
Tumblr media
Agatha Voisin
A young woman who asked to be the witch Iovita’s apprentice. She is a normal mage in most aspects with a penchant for dangerous alchemical potions and poisons. Very little is known about her life prior to meeting her Mistress but according to her, she’s an orphan whose family was murdered by a witch, so she sought to apprentice under one in order to learn how to kill them.
She’s rather quiet and contemplative, and her demeanour towards others is very much influenced by Iovita’s own attitude. Though, while she tried being mysterious and confident she comes off as more awkward and aggressive. She especially does not like her fellow apprentice and the witch’s lover, though seems to be get on well with her Undead.
While, she does not seem to have any talent at necromancy she is quite good at corpse maintenance, being able to stitch together most parts and organs with relative ease. She finds this sort of job fulfilling since she can see to he duties in peace.
She did not plan on getting attached to Iovita in the slightest, but since the witch has always looked after her as her own, she couldn’t help but become soft. She claimed that she took Agatha in because her logic of seeking out a witch master in order to kill another witch amused her greatly, so she agreed to teach the young girl whatever she can learn. That happened when Agatha was barely 14 years old so ever since then she’s considered Iovita her family.
Her magic is quite strong, though she’s terrible at close quarters combat preferring to cast spells from a distance. She usually likes it when they are given jobs that require sleath since she’s good at that.
The witch she’s hunting is a powerful one, who is said to kidnap people and cook them in her cauldron before eating them bones and all. She claims that she witness her family being devoured, before the witch released her saying that “there still needs for time to pass before the meat is tender enough.” Agatha thinks this means that the witch expects her to return and that’s when she’ll finish her off.
Before meeting Iovita she lived together with another mage who was able to commune with the spirits of the dead. She still calls on him since he’s a very crafty man with many connections who can procure her all sort of objects.
This is what she would wear in this AU:
Tumblr media
Diana Arrow
A young Undead under the control of Iovita. She used to be a common mage who was involved in the care and conservation of magical beasts, before one of them went haywire and killed her. Though she was able to receive some care at the hospital her wounds were too severe and she died of blood loss and complications, but not before making a deal with a witch who agreed to bring her back as an Undead. The reason behind her choice, despite knowing that souls resurrected cannot be reborn, is that she wanted to see her fiance one last time and apologize to him.
She’s a quiet woman and loyal to her witch, carrying out her orders to the letter without a single complaint. Because she’s put on auto she was able to retain her consciousness and original personality, so her connection to her lover was not severed. Like most witch’s Undead she is very capable and skilled and takes care of the physical stuff her Mistress cannot be asked to do.
Her weapon of choice is a pair of magically infused brass knuckles that have been gifted to her by her Mistress. She’s become rather proficient at handling them due to training sessions with her Mistress’ other Undead servant.
Her fiance, a fellow mage like her, was horrified to see her brought back from the dead at the cost of her soul entering the Void. It took a long while for them to patch things up again, and it mostly worked because he was also glad to see her return back to him, though he never wants to admit to this since it would mean putting his own selfishness above her soul.
When she’s not away on missions at her witch’s request she looks after magical beasts or spends time with her fiance. He’s a shrewd man who is trying to convince her to abandon Iovita since he believes nothing good can come from associating with her. He’s currently in the possession of a grimoire that offers him witch-like powers in exchange for killing the person dearest to him, so Diana sacrifices herself every time so he can pay the price. Because being a witch’s Undead makes her impervious to death, she resurrects almost immediately every time, though it doesn’t make it easier on him.
Since she’s a good fighter, she’s able to depose of most enemies before Iovita has to interfere. With beasts she tries to knock them out instead of killing them since she cares deeply for their well-being.
She hides the fact that she’s an Undead from most people, since few places consider it a legal practice. Though her lover has once proposed that they be Undead together, she rejected the idea. She wants him to be reincarnated and live a peacefully life even if that means they’ll never be able to meet again.
This is what she would wear in this AU:
Tumblr media
Theo Yule
A seasoned mage and a long time member of the Order. He joined them in his youth after he ran away from home due to a falling out with his family. He is not a very social man, preferring to keep to his own tasks and matters. It makes him somewhat at odds with the rest of the Order, but since his work has always been exemplary, few find it possible to complain.
He mostly does solo work, handling cases that involve the mishandling of magical artifacts like grimoires and such. As an expert in the field his advice is always sought before people proceed with their investigation. He owns several of them as well, and carries a suitcase around with him when on jobs that contain most of the tools he requires.
He’s very much like a stereotypical noir cop with his alcohol abuse and smoking habit and rudeness, treating others very contemptuously whenever he speaks to them. He seems to have a very particular dislike for rich people and those well off.
Because of his quite nature and tall stature he intimidates a lot of people.
In this version he would only go by Theo, forgoing his last name entirely.
He’s been tasked by the Order to look after a young girl with an unusual situation which requires constant monitorization. He was against the idea at first but with time he grew somewhat fond of her. They have become something of a family and though she assists him on his cases he always makes sure to shield her from actual danger and gore. He would prefer it if she lived a normal life, far away from this chaos but given he peculiar condition he knows it’s impossible.
His attachment to the girl has started to make the Order wonder if it came down to it he’d abandon his beliefs and ideals to stand by her side, but even Theo isn’t sure of the truth behind this notion. Though deep down he feels like he would.
This is what he would wear in this AU:
Tumblr media
Kore Hightower
A young girl of indeterminate origins who also happens to be a vessel for a witch. Kore can’t remember anything about her life before she was transformed into a human host for and by the creature. According to several sources she might have been part of magical ritual which involved human sacrifice along with the rest of the family, though it is unknown just to what end. She’s been a host for around a year or two it had been estimated, during which she was known as the “Strangling Witch” for the way she would choose to kill her victims.
She was freed from that control by the Order who unable to extract the essence of the creature from her, decided to keep her under surveillance and make use of her abilities instead. Though the creature has been sealed inside, she still can access some modicum of its power making her a formidable foe to non-witches.
She’s a novice in magic and it does not come easily to her so her guardian decided to teach her some basic spells and self-defense techniques in case of emergencies. She assists him on his cases partly because she wants to feel useful, partly because she wants to atone for her actions while under possession.
Though she can’t remember the period she was under the creature’s control she still feels imense guilt for her actions. Every year she goes to the cemetery where the victims are buried to pay her respects and ask for forgiveness. Because nobody but the Order knows who was behind the killings, people have no idea who she really is and merely see her as a pious girl. She avoids talking with the locals there out of guilt.
During her time as the Strangling Witch she killed around 38 people, though the number is thought to be likely much higher.
Her honest and kind nature makes her get along quite easily with others, though she has trouble getting close to them, since she feels like she doesn’t deserve to be happy or loved after all that she’s done. She’s recently befriended a young and kindhearted man whose rich family hired her guardian to take care of some business relating to magic. The two became fast friends and even perhaps more, but Kore is hesitant to explore that possibility since she doesn’t know if the creature can or cannot take control of her again. The two do keep in contact through phone though and even go on dates together occasionally but have yet to define just what exactly sort of relationship they have.
She gets along really well with the Undead under the employ of a fellow Order member, though she seems unaware of their true nature.
This is what she would wear in this AU:
The Sunnydale Herald Newsletter - Sunday, November 14
Buffy: Cool! Crossbow! Huh. Check out these babies. Hmm. Goodbye stakes, hello flying fatality. What can I shoot? Giles: Um, nothing. The crossbow comes later. Giles: You must first become proficient with the basic tools of combat. And let's begin… with the quarterstaff. Which, incidentally, will, uh, require countless hours of vigorous training. I speak from experience. Buffy: Giles, 20th Century? I'm not gonna be fighting Friar Tuck. Giles: You never know with whom or what you'll be fighting. And these traditions have been handed down through the ages. Now, you show me good, steady progress with the quarterstaff, and in due course we'll discuss the crossbow. Put on your pads. Buffy: I'm not gonna need pads to fight you. Giles: Well, we'll see about that. En garde! He makes several thrusts and she parries them all. She takes the offensive, pushes his staff to the floor and punches him in the face. She comes around with the staff into his back, and again to knock his legs out from under him. He falls onto his back. She stands over him. Giles: Good. Let's move on to the crossbow.
five tropes for your muse.
tagged: @magioffire
well - intentioned extremist.
a villain who has an overall goal which the heroes can appreciate in principle, but whose methods of pursuing said goal are problematic; despite any sympathy they may have with their cause, the heroes have no choice but to stop them.
your days are numbered.
a very basic premise — alice is doomed, and she knows it. whether it's due to a prophecy, a curse, a disease or something time travel related, it doesn't matter. what matters is that in the near future, she will die, and there is nothing she can do about it.
camp gay.
he's flamboyant in his dress, speech, mannerisms, and interests. he wears tight pants and a blousy shirt that was clearly meant for a woman, often with a bandana, scarf, or kerchief tied around his neck. these will all be in bright or pastel colors. he will often speak with a lisp and is given to flouncing, prancing, and standing with one hand on his hip as the other is flapped around or held out in a limp-wristed gesture. there is nothing ambiguous about this guy.
didn't think this through.
a situational trope. one character will develop a plan designed to solve a certain problem they're encountering. however, due to their failure to plan ahead, there is a massive gaping flaw in their plan that they—and perhaps the audience—missed.
weapons of their trade.
a specific style of improvised weapon when a tradesperson uses the tools of their trade as combat weaponry. iconic tools are preferred, because they demonstrate the character's proficiency with the tool, despite the current use as a weapon.
maddy desai’s task one
Tumblr media
TASK ONE › CHARACTER QUESTIONNAIRE.
› 001. how did your muse find out about being a demigod, and how did they react? — did their mortal parent tell them, were they attacked by a monster, or did someone seek them out to join a demigod camp? how did they react?
Maddy found out she was more than who she thought she was early on, specifically when she accidentally prevented a fight between her parents as a young girl. It was actually her older brother, Suraj, who helped her make sense of it all, her powers, the fact that she was born despite her parents already having difficulties staying in one room together. A week or two after Maddy brought her parents back into each other's arms, however, their house was attacked by a rogue harpy. While her parents were quickly incapacitated, Suraj protected Maddy despite being a mere mortal. He at least bought them time until one of Hestia's virgins, who was posing as their neighbor all that time, interfered and chased the harpy away. The same woman then discussed Maddy with her parents and suggested that she join a demigod camp when she comes of age, which she did. Although scared during the attack, Maddy was pretty much impressed at her savior and decided then and there to one day repay her in kind. She never did meet her again, though.
› 002. how does your muse’s mortal family feel about them being a demigod? — were they supportive and proud of your muse? or did they reject your muse, ignore them, or try to hide it? or did they have a change of heart over time?
Their parents, mostly their mother, simply believed it was a miracle that Maddy was born, all things considered, while their father grew suspicious of the birth, always watching Maddy and her mother until she unintentionally used her powers on them, turning them both very contented with their life together and forgetful of past ills, seemingly erasing years of anguish. Her older brother Suraj took it upon himself to protect Maddy out of a combination of believing it was his duty as her brother and hoping that there was a greater reason for her existence and its proximity to his own.
› 003. when did they get claimed by their godly parent? — did their godly parent claim them when they found out when they were a demigod, or was it a delayed reaction?
One of Hestia's virgins, who had been posing as their neighbor when Maddy was just a little girl, was the first to reach out to her. It wasn't after she came of age and attend a demigod camp that Hestia herself reached out and expressed pride at her kind heart. Maddy had always been thankful of her own existence, a miracle according to her mortal mother, so she was thankful to her godly mother for bringing her to life. Although Maddy did ask about meeting the virgin that watched over her as a little girl, as a means to thank her for all those years, it was with deep sadness that Hestia could not bring them together again, as that same woman was already lost. Maddy didn't press further, even if she wanted to, believing the reason for that loss may be of divine matter and Hestia sounded like she was in pain just letting her know about it.
› 004. did they attend a camp? — if so, talk about their experiences here.
Maddy did attend a demigod camp where she made a few demigod friends and experienced demigod things. She didn't really excel in anything during that time, however, and basically just flew under the radar, only really having forgettable interactions with others. She did attempt to help everyone and be the kindest person in the camp but, well, it was a demigod camp and everyone was showing off while she was just contented with watching and supporting them all.
› 005. was your muse ever sent on any quests? — if your muse attended a demigod camp, were they ever sent on a quest? more than one? what did the quests entail, and did they fall or succeed?
If memory serves her correctly, and it does, Maddy has only been in three quests so far: (a) helping feed a starving village of satyrs that were mysteriously cut off from the rest of the world, (b) restoring an abandoned mansion and its hearth before it could be demolished, and (c) reuniting a lost child, blinded in an accident, with her parents in a populated city. Maddy was successful with all three quests but she also had help with other Hestia children, some even of other godly parents.
› 006. what’s their relationship with their godly parent? — is it positive, negative, ambivalent? how much contact do they have? does your muse wish it was more or less?
Maddy's relationship with Hestia is a very positive one. Every now and then, Hestia checks in to make sure Maddy is okay, and Maddy definitely appreciates the warmth she receives from her godly parent. It's neither very suffocating nor absent, just the right balance of contact. She does often find herself wondering about that virgin from when she was a child and would like to know more but feels that it would be a line crossed if she asked any further. In the end, she's a demigod, not a god, so she believes she probably has no right to go further than what she is told.
› 007. your muse’s favorite part about being a demigod? — has it benefited your muse in any particular way? if so, in what way?
Maddy has a bittersweet relationship with herself being a demigod. On one hand, she's met all these cool people, made all these cool friends, experienced these cool things. On the other? She often finds it difficult to weigh the use of her abilities, almost always burdened by the uncertainty that they may not be as ethical as she hopes they'd be. Still, she enjoys the practicality of being able to summon food as easy as 1-2-3, being able to heat them up whenever she can and whenever she needs to, and of course the immunities that go with being a demigod.
› 008. your muse’s least favorite part about being a demigod? — has it hindered your muse at all in the past? effected their relationships at all?
The ethical and moral dilemma about her using her abilities of serenity inducement and bond manipulation have always weighed heavy on her shoulders. When she was a young girl, she accidentally used her powers to induce serenity between her parents who have been fighting for years, just snapping her fingers and washing all those petty arguments and rational anguish off of them without much effort. When she got older, she realized it was most likely a terrible thing to have done, and she's been debating with herself ever since. To this day, she tries to keep her own use of her abilities at bay, and even then, she often finds herself second-guessing her own relationships, past and present.
› 009. what’s your muse’s weapon and battle proficiency? — you can mention other weapons your muse is proficient in, as well as any battlefield related skills, but be sure to highlight what they’re the most skillful with.
Maddy's weapon is her heart and her battle proficiency revolves around staying away from the actual frontline and sticking to the back where she can help others heal and recuperate. Maddy is not someone anyone would consider to fight beside them in direct combat. She's more the kind of support that should be relegated to keeping the soldiers fed and somewhat healthy, which she's more than happy to be. She is, however, really nifty with kitchen tools and has a pretty good aim with a rolling pin and even a frying pan.
