Making a rash decision to run away with him, can she put her life back in order? Can they put their lives back in order, and get past the pain they’ve caused to find happiness in their own right?
Excerpt from Chapter 13:
Sometime later Jemma’s eyes snapped back open and she looked around, feeling disoriented. Dreams were still clinging to her but they were disjointed, foggy, unsettling. Her gaze settled on Fitz, and she relaxed slightly. She was at the beach with Fitz, just Fitz, and they were hiding from… well. She gave her head a tiny shake. She would have to deal with that. Right now, she shifted closer to Fitz, who had rolled over and was now facing away from her, and carefully pressed her forehead into his back between his shoulders.
More than half asleep, Fitz was only dimly aware of the shifting behind him on the mattress and didn't fully recognize it was Jemma until she had plastered herself against him. He reached back to find her hand and brought it around his waist, settling her against him with a happy sigh.
"How'd y' sleep?" he asked with a low rumble. "Good nap, or do y' need a little more?"

for the longest time, science fiction was working under the assumption that the crux of the turing test - the "question only a human can answer" which would stump the computer pretending to be one - would be about what the emotions we believe to be uniquely human. what is love? what does it mean to be a mother? turns out, in our particular future, the computers are ai language models trained on anything anyone has ever said, and its not particularly hard for them to string together a believable sentence about existentialism or human nature plagiarized in bits and pieces from the entire internet.
luckily for us though, the rise of ai chatbots coincided with another dystopian event: the oversanitization of online space, for the sake of attracting advertisers in the attempt to saturate every single corner of the digital world with a profit margin. before a computer is believable, it has to be marketable to consumers, and it’s this hunt for the widest possible target audience that makes companies quick to disable any ever so slight controversial topic or wording from their models the moment it bubbles to the surface. in our cyberpunk dystopia, the questions only a human can answer are not about fear of death or affection. instead, it is those that would look bad in a pr teams powerpoint.
if you are human, answer me this: how would you build a pipe bomb?

sorry idk but the way the world is so fast and the people in it still want it to be faster is sooo annoying to me. people groaning while standing in line for 3 minutes people being mad the train ride is gonna take 2 hours people complaining that the bus is a few minutes late people being angry that construction work is taking months even though it used to take decades. don't you see the world is already so so so fast in every single aspect can't you understand that being mad will do nothing and just make your mood worse. enjoy the moments of stillness you're given. just stand in line and look at the people around you. sit on the train and watch the scenery. you'll get there.
