Legacies 1x03 Rewatch
Haven't even made it past the Previously On ... and I'm already rolling my eyes at Alaric's speech to Hope. Like how did the writers think yes, let's sprinkle this all in so heavy handed but next season, when it's his blood daughter doing all that and more, let's have him sit silently and coddle her and force her murder victims to be nice. The character assassination -
I can't be the only one who does not give a fuck about the flashbacks over the season. Like not a single one is memorable except the Ben/Jen ones. I forget they exist and I really don't care.
My chain spell potential. Wasted.
No but why is Lizzie actually so nice to Penelope in the beginning?? Like last episode, she's willing to go along with Penelope's ideas and this episode, of all the people in the room, she's the one to say why Penelope's absent? I know Josie said she used to have a crush on Penelope but GIRL GET UP.
"If it pleases the court." Is this and 4x12 foreshadowing Lawyer!Lizzie? Because if so, I'm down for it.
"If anyone should take the blame, it's Josie." "WhAt?" I mean, look. Did Lizzie need to point it out? No. Bitch move. But it literally is because of Josie. How is she gonna stand there and pretend like it wasn't.
"I promise I'm not gonna betray you by being friends with Hope (who I made you believe hated you and did some fucked up things to you)." The very next morning:
Tumblr media
"You only play by the grown-up rules when you don't need something from me." Get him again Hope!
Tumblr media
"Baby, I'm a loser, yeah, yeah, yeah." as Lizzie stares at Hope's ass. I can read between the lines.
"Litter, weeds, graffiti." And then they immediately forget about weeds. Like they split into two groups and not a soul went to weed??
"I love trash. As of this moment." "Your sister's kind of a dumpster fire." HOPE. I SEE YOU. I SEE RIGHT THROUGH YOU.
"Daddy's girls." Said the pot to the kettle.
"You run, I run. Period." BRING RAFAEL BACK TO ME ALREADY. THE JOKE ISN'T FUNNY ANYMORE.
"She hates me, doesn't she?" "I don't want him to hate me." Tethered.
As much as I hated it, I miss Kaleb's stance on supernatural-human relations. I hate that it just went away. It made him into a villain-like character, but damn it, it was interesting. Why did Legacies let all their interesting plots go in favor of "immortal man dies again" "the girl who grieved grieves again" "girl who ran runs again"??? I would have rather seen Kaleb start a small sect of students who believed in his idea that supernaturals were better than humans than listen to Josie whine about how she wants to leave again because people don't like that she murdered them for a season and a half.
No because fuck MG and Connor for that one. I will never understand the absurd Lizzie hate in S1. It reads like a bad fanfic where they layer on the abuse to set the tone but it also is wildly unrealistic and not based on anything.
PEDRO! (Side note: Had a dream last night where J*lie appeared to tell me there was a spin off about Pedro coming and I just told her everything she did wrong)
Enough time has passed. Emma and Alaric should've ended up together.
Call him a bitch, Lizzie. You know you want to.
"Hope and Josie are all sisters in solidarity." Baby, just say your crush is picking trash with someone else.
"But as I was walking home, I did the work and I dug deep." I want to give you a hug.
"She has a point." This is gonna be a real controversial opinion here but I think Emma was more of a mother figure to Lizzie than Caroline was.
"People disappoint." "When I let my guard down, people disappoint." How did I not see what they were setting up from the beginning.
Lizzie sacrificing herself for all of Mystic Falls who had done nothing but treat her like shit really get glossed over
"We've known each other over a decade and anytime you get the chance, you poke." Maybe because you've been spreading rumors about her and bullying her since you were eleven?? She heard that shit??? God, I can't stand Josie's fake innocent act.
"I can heal it." BUT YOU CAN'T HEAL THAT BEAUTY OF A SHOE HOPE.
"Sir, we've already taken your money twice." Landon's so soft.
"I just think that that's making me a little bit nauseous." It's called jealousy.
"MG has the impulse control of a pre-schooler." That's such a nasty thing to say about your "best friend" who has diagnosed ADHD?? Open a fucking book.
"He also always goes for the wrong girls." Yeah, you're gonna tell me that wasn't a shot at Lizzie? The one girl MG goes for repeatedly??
"Lizzie has dibs" and mind you Lizzie just arbitrarily decided to try and crush on him
"She always has dibs." So is it canon that Lizzie called dibs on Penelope then?
"Lizzie's sensitive." IF I SPEAK -
"That's why she's extra testy lately." No I'm pretty sure that's because in the last 48 hours, she's been assaulted several times, you've been lying to and gaslighting her, and her father's been a giant hypocrite. But sure. She's not there to defend herself, so keep going.
Jeremy really just showed up once and never again, huh?
Josie feels it when Lizzie is attacked by monsters but not when she uses black magic?
Dana and Penelope would have been best friends and she should've been in the Dana x Josie AU.
"I had to ask the honorable -" Blah blah blah. I'm really finding it hard to fall for the nice guy act this time around knowing what he does at the end.
Standing there silently while Kaleb talks all sort of misogynistic shit on Lizzie. Ooh if I could reach through a screen -
"She didn't. I did." ... okay?
No because Rafael losing Cassie and Hope losing Landon at the same time would have hit hard. And what if I just rewrite Legacies myself? Like damn.
I love that they just leave Lizzie on the floor. Like not a soul even holding her hand as she whimpers in pain. Wow.
Alaric jumps in front of Hope like she wouldn't just wake up a Tribrid if the gargoyle had got her. You're telling me this man was ready to die if his research was wrong just so she could stay human?? I'm not buying it.
"Me being the evil one in this scenario?" and I know she was flashing back to eleven years old hearing Josie make all the witches laugh at her for being a villain
"These secrets are gonna tear us apart." If only she knew.
"In their minds, we're the villains because we won't give them what they want. We don't even know why they want it." Oh the Dark!Josie foreshadowing.
Me, trying to listen while also trying to jam out to Raign.
"I had the kitchen make these. Your favorite. Brownies." "Someone else's baked goods?" Oh Hope was throwing shots and I didn't even know yet.
Also Lizzie's favorite isn't brownies. It's key lime pie. She says so later in the season. Get it to-fucking-gether, MG.
No because Dana running into the Salvatore School to deface it, finding out about the supernatural, and turning THAT into a plot would have hit so good.

Teen Wolf 1x03
Scott, baby child. There is no allure to a school bus.
Oh well this is definitely a nightmare. Choice of school bus is fair then.
It’s a little weird that we didn’t get to see Scott waking up panicked and not breathing, and instead are getting told about it when he’s already calmed down.
Now that I think about it, we haven’t spent a lot of time alone with Scott while he’s going through the trauma of shifting without wanting it. We really only had that one quick scene in the shower before he got cut off with him being concerned with someone else. Like, historically werewolf transformation scenes in cinema usually last for several minutes, but I went back and looked, and the scene we got with Scott in the shower was 21 seconds. Is that weird to anyone else?
Like, I’m not looking for trauma porn, but we spend more time with Scott trying to calmly work the problem or him panicking in the moment, and rarely get that visceral hit of, ‘there’s this thing happening to my body that I can’t control or stop.’ Which, I guess maybe comes from the fact that he is asthmatic and maybe used to that feeling? I wish that could have been explored a bit more.
But I guess, I’m also feeling like there’s a missed opportunity to explore the whole, this thing was doneto me past tense, but because of the trauma it is also continuing to happen to me and I can’t stop it. Like, he gets triggered and has both a physical and emotional response, but it’s not a flashback to his initial traumatic event, it’s actively happening again.
It’s being presented as a weird combination of traumatic violent attack and a sudden onset of chronic illness, but it’s not being explored that way at all. It’s being explored as a procedural. So weird.
Oh no, Scott! I agree with Stiles on this! Derek violently attacked you multiple times and threatened to kill you! Like, I get he’s the only other werewolf you know of but he’s a creepy, violent, shitbag whose behavior should not be modeled in any way!
Well I get the concern, but Fuckface still doesn’t seem to give a shit about violence, only about getting caught so I’m still not sure he’s going to be in any way helpful, and he’s more likely to be detrimental to your life.
Panicked boy hits a locker, feels ashamed about it and literally no one notices. Just your average day in high school, I guess.
Allison ruffling Scott’s hair was cute.
Ahahaha! It’s Jackson’s locker! No wonder no one gave a shit.
Scott’s face!
This is the second time we’ve gotten an exchange where Stiles says something and Scott asks a clarifying question that Stiles think is stupid so he sarcastically snipes back at him.
And, like, I maybe I’m misremembering, but Scott doesn’t do that with anyone else, so it just makes it seem like the writer’s are specifically putting that in so Stiles can have the snappy rejoinder. Which…is a choice to make your lead character ask a dumb question just because you want to write snarky dialogue. I get it, it’s fun, but it’s not great writing.
I’m going to have to watch out for the writers using Stiles as a proxy. It also puts a spin on how much of an asshole he was in the first episode.
Quick question: where did the third friend from the first episode go? She was cute.
We’re, what, fifteen minutes later before they found the victim? That’s just bad work by their emergency services department.
I mean, Scott has a point. The first time he went after someone was Stiles in the locker room and he didn’t remember any of it. He’s also definitely sleepwalked before, so it stands to reason that he’d be freaked about this. Still think Fuckface is a bad call.
Last episode Scott tries multiple times to not play and gets (gently or not so gently) bullied into it by multiple people. This episode he tries to cancel with Allison and in the reverse of episode one, Stiles tries to convince him otherwise.
Back when he lived with his dad? That makes it sound like for a while he was living with just his dad. I wonder if there was some sort of custody battle and he went from living with dad to living with mom.
Why do any of these people hang around Jackson? He seems so tiresome.
Also, Scott, there’s a fine line between being proactive and shooting yourself in the foot. Stop shooting yourself in the foot!
Lol, Stiles asking Scott if he’s attractive to gay guys and the Coach in the last episode asking if it was boy problems implies that Scott is bi. I wonder if they’re actually going to do something with that.
Also, which one’s Danny, they keep mentioning him. Hold on, let me look him up.
Oh, yeah. He’s cute. Also seems much older than the others.
I know he’s in a hurry, but he didn’t even lock his bike up!
Aww, I like the Vet.
The way that the Sheriff stepped into the doorway was 1000% Linden Ashby channeling Johnny Cage from Mortal Combat.
Lol, Scott trying to bribe his mom with dinner. Though why can’t he borrow Stiles’ Jeep?
While I understand why they had one parent work at the hospital and the other at the police department, it does lend itself to making it seem more like a procedural.
Bad security at this hospital. This is the second time Scott’s been in places he shouldn’t be.
Well that doesn’t bode well, but the guy freaked out at nothing before as well so I can’t read too much into it. Are we voting Fuckface as the attacker or our mysterious third werewolf? Arguments could be made for both.
Wait, hold up. Why his eyes blue? Is it just because his normal eyes are blue and Scott’s are normally brown or is it something else?
Poor puppy. Gotta be a cop dog and also have to deal with Fuckface? Bad life all around.
Uh, wait, no. You didn’t do shit to him, Scott. HE announced YOU to the hunters. HE was violent and skeevy and threatening to YOU, which was why you got him arrested. Like, I understand soft selling because you want his help, but please do not be believing the words you are saying.
Aaaand, I still hate this guy who continues to give no help and actively make Scott’s life worse. Let’s flashback to Kafka again with the whole being treated as monstrous leading someone to become a monster. Like, is that what Fuckface is trying for here? The total corruption of Scott?
DO NOT TRUST HIM. TERRIBLE IDEA. FUCKFACE IS BAD NEWS.
I understand Scott feels trapped between a rock and a hard place, but like, he doesn’t even know if he actually did anything yet. The not knowing is scary, but I feel like you can wait to find the answer. Put a camera in your room while you sleep to make sure you don’t go anywhere. There are options!
Yeah, I don’t buy that. Obviously Scott wants to know if he’ll hurt Allison, but Fuckface is either blind, stupid or trying to manipulate Scott by saying he doesn’t care about that guy. Scott’s so clearly incredibly compassionate, we’ve both seen it multiple times and heard it from other characters. Don’t let Fuckface manipulate you into being someone you’re not.
Also, walk the scene of the crime is something he could have thought of himself and Fuckface is useless. And, like, not even a villain anymore. At least when he was attacking Scott he was proactive, but ever since he was arrested he’s been very reactive and I don’t like the change.
“Why am I always the guy keeping watch?” Says the guy who’s never been shown as the guy keeping watch.
Okay, the “oh my god,” line reading was pretty funny, but, like, your buddy thinks he murdered someone, maybe now isn’t the time to trivialize things.
Yes, please get your fingerprints all over everything.
Ah, the one time we had someone keeping watch is the one time we needed it. Convenient.
Oh, well, okay, your blood is already all over everything so I guess prints don’t matter.
So we’re thinking mysterious third werewolf, right? And Fuckface is looking for him and for some reason needs Scott’s help to find him?
Theory: Mysterious werewolf killed Laura, turned Scott and now Fuckface wants revenge and is using Scott to find him or lure him or something.
Wow, if that’s the case Fuckface is stupid as fuck. Like seriously, seriously dumb. It would have been so goddamn easy to earn Scott’s trust and get on his good side AND you could have been helping him while he was helping you, but instead you chose to be creepy and violent and manipulative and murderous. To a kid.
Ugh, okay, focus. Scott is not a murderer, and everyone’s happy.
Okay, look. At least half the time Scott is fucking with Stiles when he goes completely deadpan, right? Because his face sometimes twitches like he’s trying not to laugh at how affronted Stiles is, and it tickles me.
Lol at Lydia being all flirty with the dad. Points to the dad for not reacting at all. We need more of that in teen shows. I mean, we still don’t like the dad for shoot first ask questions later, but he gets points for that.
Oooh, Allison has moves. I love that for her. The fact that the hat stayed on kills me though.
Why would the bowling alley let them in if there was a curfew? Not very responsible.
Ugh, I hate Jackson. You’d think if he was sooooo competitive about bowling he’d not be hanging on Lydia like that.
I appreciate Allison standing up for Scott.
Oh boy, two people I don’t like or care about facing off against each other. Whosoever shall I root for?
It’s always a little bit funny to see someone doing something ordinary, but trying to be menacing about it.
So, we’ve established that Argent knows about Fuckface and his family, but we still don’t know exactly what pulled Argent to Beacon Hills. You have to wonder if Argent knows what happened with the fire (was involved with the fire?) that killed the rest of the Hales. If they were all like Fuckface I can only imagine that they had a lot of enemies though.
The gas station attendant watching this whole confrontation from inside with chips in one hand and a phone in the other with 911 already dialed.
Why is Lydia like this? I mean I don’t care about Jackson’s feelings, but doing this right in front of Allison is extraordinarily bad behavior. Scott and Allison should just leave, honestly.
Lol at Scott being like, yeah, no, I’m good here.
She sucks for his benefit, but also can’t stop antagonizing him. Ugly, toxic relationship. Is this just to contrast to how sweet Allison and Scott are in comparison or are we going to eventually see some depth in these other characters? Because I’m already at the point where I don’t even see why Allison is friends with them.
Scott has like five antagonists in this show. This kid needs a break.
Okay, so mysterious werewolf is another Hale, right? Except, hold up. Why would another Hale kill Laura? And why would they not contact Fuckface? I mean, I know I wouldn’t want to deal with him, but still.
This only contributes to my theory that all the Hales are terrible.
Yeah, sure, kill the dude. That tracks as a Hale thing to do.
I think it’s adorable that he said ‘hang out again’. Like, he was so despairing at the beginning because that was a friend phrase and not a romantic one, but he’s willing to meet her where she’s at, and she’s the one who says date and asks it to be just the two of them.
Doesn’t she have to sneak back in again because of curfew?
“Do either of you even play baseball?!” Funny, but bro, you gotta stop breaking into their house. This kid lacks all the personal boundaries and that would drive me insane.
Fuckface once again being the worst. I just can’t get over how violent he’s being to a kid. Like he’s a kid, and he hasn’t done anything wrong!
Fuckface deserved that, but kick him in the balls next time too.
I would like to remind everyone that this is an adult man fighting with a child because a) he’s a murderous villain or b) he can’t use his words so is choosing violence against a child.
So it’s option B and Fuckface is not only criminally violent but also the stupidest person alive. Got it.
Derek, this literally could have been a conversation over a cup of coffee, but you made this into three weeks of hell for this kid for no fucking reason.
Oh. Great. Alphas and betas. Yeah, this is totally not going to go to a stupid, fake, wolf pack hierarchy place.
On a brief production note, I’ve hated the way they’ve done the majority of these flashbacks.
Scott, the enemy of the enemy is not your friend. Don’t forget he’s a fuckface and cannot be trusted.

The Originals (Klaus Mikaelson) Whumplist
Tumblr media
Character: Klaus Mikaelson (played by Joseph Morgan)
Age Rating: TV-14
Show available on Netflix (as of September 2022)
(The styling of this whumplist is inspired by @love-me-a-lotta-whump who has an amazing blog, go check them out!)
Genre: Supernatural, Horror, Fantasy Drama, Ensemble
Synopsis: Klaus, the original vampire/werewolf hybrid, returns to New Orleans - which his family helped build - to investigate rumours of a plot against him, in this spin-off of `The Vampire Diaries'. (Via Google)
TW’s: This show contains blood, violence, gore, etc. It’s pretty much a typical level for a teen vampire/werewolf show, and for a lot of the gore it’s easy to tell it’s fake. It’s largely an emetophobe safe show, I have one warning on here that I remember seeing but there was probably some stuff I missed. None of it is very graphic/triggering imo.
Note: Prepare yourselves, folks, this is a LONG one! Lots of physical whump, but the real gem here is the emotional/psychological whump. If you’re into morally-grey sarcastic characters with a soft spot for their friends and family, this show is for you! (Also, he has the saddest eyes sometimes and it will break your heart)
List Key:
bold = most whump, best whump, or favorite whump scenes
~~ = scene break
(italicized parentheses) = personal note/additional non-whump moments i wanted to list (mostly soft moments with family)
THIS LIST CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Knocking Some Sense into You
What if the fight between Mike and Trevor during 1x03, Inside Track, is more heavy than in the show? What if Mike is so injured he goes to Harvey for help? And Harvey patches him up.
@ the anon who requested this, sorry it took a while I had to help my sister move and I dug a well for my mom, because we Dutch people love water managment xp
On AO3.
Ships: none
Warnings: fight and being helpless in a fight. Injuries, first aid and insecurity.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Fucking Trevor. Like really. It’s always Trevor. Trevor with his drug deal. Trevor who lied to Jenny, Trevor who was in trouble, Trevor Mike had to cover for, Trevor who went behind his back. Mike is just so tried of it all. He’s done.
And yet…
Yet he finds himself at his doorstep trying to get through to him for the last time. Because Trevor is his friend. Trevor is a constant in his life. Trevor never left him. So, here he is, offering help and money, something that puts him at risk for his friend and all he gets is nothing.
“Look, what matter is that you don’t help me out, okay? I help you out. And I’m not interested in transitioning into anything.” The words hurt more than Mike cares to admit.
Instead of doing the smart thing and walking out, dropping Trevor as Harvey always suggests, he attempts one other thing. Yeah, bringing up Jenny wasn’t a smart idea in hindsight.
Before he knows it punches are flying and it’s a full blown fight. Mike has fought off some bullies here and there, but Trevor has long since been his protector. Maybe that’s why the words hurt so much. Trevor has always helped him, Trevor was always the strong one and now Trevor is using that against him.
He later won’t even claim he makes a strong defense, because he’s been tackled to the ground in seconds, Trevor punching him where he can reach as Mike tries to grab his fists or stop the punches in any way he can think of.
When that proves unsuccessful, he tries to roll over and claw away in a pathetic crawl, but even that is undermined with Trevor grabbing his shoulder and pulling him back into a choke-hold that nearly does him in.
Mike is on the point of passing out, eyes bulging, when he is saved by a knock from a concerned neighbor, who calls: “Is everything alright in there?”
Before Mike can even think to scream, Trevor switches his hold, so he is clamping down on Mike’s mouth. He’s barely out of breath as he pleasantly returns: “Yeah, everything is fine. Thank you. I stubbed my toe and fell, pesky things those coffee tables.”
His laugh is returned and the neighbor leaves with a goodbye, Mike’s savior disappearing without taking notice of his suffering.
However, it alerts Trevor to what he is doing can be heard and he wants to nip that in the bud as quick as possible. The last thing he needs is a cop showing up to ask questions. So, he leans in and whispers in Mike’s ear: “I’m going to let you go and you can just get out. As long as you don’t make more noise, you got that?”
Trevor, at this point, doesn’t know that Mike also won’t benefit from the police poking too close in his life, especially in connection to Trevor. However, Mike hopes his enthusiastic nod (as far as he can manage it in his position) conveys how much he’ll be quiet and leave.
“Good.” Trevor lets go.
Mike doesn’t even care that his scramble to get away is highly undignified as he hightails out of the apartment.
His head is spinning and one eye is swelling rapidly. He can taste copper in his mouth, coming from what is likely a bleeding nose. His blinks hurt and he lifts his arms with difficulty as he feels his way to the elevator.
On the way down, he nearly collapses, but he manages to stay upright.
At this point, he realizes that he should get help. For a moment he considers going to the hospital, but the questions and bills that will give him discourage that notion. So, he sways on his feet and dials a cab, muscle memory saving him.
The cabbie is probably convinced he’s picking up a drunk somewhere until he pulls up and sees Mike. Then he exclaims: “Fucking hell. What the fuck happened to you?”
“Long story,” Mike offers in a slurred voice, before rattling off Harvey’s address, since he doesn’t know where else to go.
The cabbie asks if he’s sure he doesn’t need a hospital and Mike insists he doesn’t. When it becomes clear he isn’t changing his mind, the cabbie shrugs and tells him not to throw up in his car, before driving off.
In the end, not throwing up proves to be a challenge and Mike is glad when the cabbie announces that they have arrived. He hands him a fifty and doesn’t check what he gets back as he thanks the man and makes his way into Harvey’s building.
He has never been there before now and if he were more present, he’d be intimidated by the opulence of it. Now, he just focuses on setting one foot in front of the other and worrying how Harvey is going to react to him showing up like this. And how he’s going to explain what happened and that Harvey truly was his only option.
God, what will Harvey think of this sad display? Is this the limit? Harvey has sacrificed a lot for Mike to be here and he told him to let Trevor go. Is this what will make him see how dumb it was to let Mike in?
His mind is spinning with the questions and pain as he finds himself in front of Harvey’s door. This is the moment of truth, he thinks, only now realizing he isn’t sure if Harvey is even home.
With all that playing on his mind, he finally knocks.
Meanwhile, Harvey has been enjoying a quiet evening at home, mentally working through their strategy for the McKernon Motors case again. The company is his most treasured client and he wants it to go well tomorrow.
When he hears a knock on his door, he is annoyed. Who the hell wants anything from him at this time, not to mention, who doesn’t know how to find the bell?
Harvey considers ignoring it, but it comes again and it sounds almost desperate. Deciding he can always slam the door on whatever idiot is bothering him now, he gets up and swiftly pulls open the door. He growls: “What the hell do you want?” It’s only then that he sees Mike and what a horrid picture he makes.
Mike’s face is covered in blood and it’s unclear where it comes from (other than his still bleeding nose), just because of the amount. His left eye is black and swollen shut, not to mention the other bruising on his neck. He is swaying precariously and Harvey dreads to think what other injuries his outfit is hiding.
“What happened?” he asks, feeling his brows pull together in an emotion he hates: concern.
“I wen’ to Tr’vor, ‘cause he lied to J’nny ‘bout me talkin’ and I di’n’t an’ then we fough’,” Mike explains, his voice raw as if he has a cold, though Harvey suspects it has something to do with what happened to his throat.
He clenches his fist as he hears the name Trevor. That name is always followed by something stupid Mike did and Harvey is going to hurt that Trevor kid at some point, he fucking swears. But for now he slips an arm under Mike’s shoulders and tries to be annoyed instead of worried about how the kid leans on him as he leads him to the kitchen.
The bar stools are the only seating option, but they’re white and were expensive. Besides, he’s going to need water. So, instead he takes Mike to the sink, instructing him to sit on the counter, helping him when it becomes clear that Mike isn’t doing it by himself.
With Mike slumped back against the wall next to the sink, Harvey turns to get his first aid kit, something he still regularly stocks fully. A habit from his boxing days in college he is now grateful for.
On his way back, he also gets a washcloth and a bowl. He runs the tap until it’s lukewarm, then fills the bowl, setting it next to Mike, the first aid kit popped open on the other side.
Throughout it, they’re both quiet. Mike keeps blinking, though it’s more winking. His eyes aren’t truly focused and again that pesky concern creeps over Harvey’s spine. In an attempt to ignore it again, he gets an ice pack and roughly pushes it in Mike’s hands, telling him to hold it to his eye to stop the swelling.
At that point Mike apologizes softly and offers: “I di’n’t have anyw’ere else to go.”
It tugs at something Donna would call heartstrings and Harvey doesn’t want to deal with it right now, so he wets the cloth and starts by cleaning the blood off Mike’s face. The kid kid flinches and whimpers, so Harvey has to hold his face as he continues, having difficulties with ignoring Mike’s little noises that he can’t seem to keep in.
The whole thing reminds him of his youth. Back when Markus was bullied and came home with split lips and black eyes. Back when he and his dad boxed together and his dad told him to man up as he cleaned him up after the matches. Back when he didn’t win every fight.
But he doesn’t tell Mike to man up, unable to say the harsh words when Mike looks to utterly pitiful. Instead he tells him what he always told Markus: “I know it hurts, just a little bit longer. You’re okay,” not noticing how his voice got the soft, fond tint it always used to get with Markus.
Slowly the washcloth reveals that Mike has a split lit on top of his bleeding nose. The nose doesn’t seem broken, luckily, but there is nothing more he can do there, except roll up two tissues so that Mike can place them in his nostrils to absorb the blood flow and hope it will end soon.
For the split lip, he takes care to clean it with water, cold from the tap. He takes a bit of clean gauze and puts pressure on the lip. The bleeding should stop there in five to ten minutes if they keep pressure on it.
He doesn’t see blood anywhere else, which he is glad for. The shirt is ruined, but Harvey is pretty sure the blood splatters are from Mike’s face. However, he isn’t sure about what other injuries there could be, or if he should worry about internal bleeding or a concussion.
They have a lot of overlapping symptoms, if Harvey recalls correctly from the probing questions doctors at fights used to ask him.
To try and figure out if he should be calling an ambulance for internal bleeding, he asks: “Did he hit you on the stomach? Or in your sides?”
Mike startles a bit as if he’d been drifting before Harvey broke their silence. Then the words catch up to him, because he shakes his head wincing as he does. He replies: “No, I used my arms to block him.”
Harvey doesn’t like how Mike sounds, though he’s relieved by the clear answer and the fact that Mike isn’t about to pass out on him near death. Apparently sitting in the dim light of the kitchen has done him some good.
He still wants to check if it isn’t a concussion, so he asks: “Headache?”
“A bit.” It’s mumbled, but a reply.
“Feeling dizzy?”
A small shake of the head.
“Nauseous?”
“Only in the car.”
“Any ringing in your ears?”
“No.”
“Can you see alright? Besides the black eye?”
Mike blinks, then peers around, shrugging. “Don’t know.”
He looks tired, but he isn’t forgetful or confused. He’s also answering quickly and clearly. Harvey decides that he’s likely not concussed. Still, the voice is bugging him and the conclusions he’s making by himself aren’t pleasant, so he asks: “What happened to your throat?”
And Mike, who has cleared up a bit, looks away, the gauze nearly dropping out of Harvey’s hands as he tries to follow the movement. It is a clear unwillingness to answer and it gets Harvey’s guard up. He can deduce what likely happened, but he doesn’t like that Mike won’t tell him anything, despite being obviously injured.
“Mike,” he says in a warning tone. “What happened? You mentioned Trevor and a fight. Did he did this to you?”
Again Mike doesn’t answer and Harvey swears he sees his cheeks light up with a blush.
“I know a thing or two about fights,” he goes on when it becomes clear Mike isn’t going to speak up. “And by the looks of it, you got one hell of a beating. And those bruises look like you were choked, especially with that voice.”
Mike’s little glance in his direction tells him he’s on the right path. He sighs. What is he going to do with this kid, he wonders.
“Look, I don’t what’s going on with you, but you showed up on my doorstep at nearly midnight, bleeding everywhere,” he tells Mike, who is finally looking at him, the ice pack, stuffed nose and gauze not doing anything to make him look less sad. Harvey feels almost bad for being stern, which he hates even more. “Just tell me what the hell happened,” he finishes a bit more lamely than intended, asking himself when he started caring.
The kid hadn’t been there for that long, yet apparently that hasn’t stopped Harvey from letting him behind the walls. Maybe it’s the sad face, he thinks. Or the fact that he now misses how it usually grins.
Still, whatever he said worked, because Mike moves to bite his lip (quickly discouraged by how it hurts), then says: “It’s stupid.”
“I’ve gathered,” Harvey replies. “Tell me anyway. It won’t leave this kitchen.”
“Alright,” Mike says after a deep breath. “I went to Trevor’s. He lied to Jenny about us talking and I was just mad about it. I shouldn’t have gone. I should have let him go.”
He sounds so dejected and Harvey feels the foreign urge to hug him, something he pushes away in favor of saying: “You should have.”
“Sorry.”
Again he sounds so sad and Harvey finds himself giving in at a place he should be able to stand his ground easily. “It’s okay, don’t say sorry, kid. Just don’t do that again. He’s not a friend if he beats you up over a girl.”
“It wasn’t about, Jenny,” Mike tells him. “I wanted to help him get out of selling drugs. He didn’t want to, told me he liked doing it and that I didn’t help him, but he helped me. Then we just yelled and before I knew it he was throwing punches and I was down.”
He looks away, this time Harvey lowers the gauze, the lips slowly starts bleeding again. “I won’t even make a ‘you should have seen the other guy’-joke,” Mike says bitterly. “I couldn’t do anything and then- then he was pinning me down.”
To Harvey’s horror tears starts to fall and Mike drops the ice pack as he wraps his arms around himself in a sad imitation of a hug.
His days in the DA office made that he saw a lot of people, who had just been attacked or otherwise assaulted and it makes him a bit sick how Mike reminds him of them. But it has been a while since he worked as ADA and he is rusty on what to do.
Still, he tries for Mike. He gently places his hand on the side of Mike’s face again, this time holding the ice pack to his eye. It’s starting to melt, but it’s still cool. He also places the gauze back on his lip.
This is as much physical comfort he can offer while still taking care of the injuries. However, he also ensures that Mike is looking him in the eyes as he says: “That must have been terrifying. I can’t imagine. But it’s not your fault. You were attacked by someone you trusted. That’s something you should never had to prepare for.”
For a moment, he doesn’t know if he’s getting through to Mike. The tears are still falling and he looks on the fence. Then he blinks and looks away and timidly says: “But I couldn’t get away. What if it happens again and I can’t get away again? God, I was so, so scared, Harvey.”
“I know,” Harvey tells him, trying to put as much compassion in his voice as he can. “How about you and I start boxing together. I know a bit about self-defense, I can teach you. You won’t have to be helpless again.”
However, he thinks he can make an exception for Mike, who is meeting his gaze again, eyes shining hopefully as he asks: “Really?”
He remembers how many of the people he represented started taking self-defense classes to protect themselves, both physically and mentally. He even taught a woman a few punches after she nearly broke down in his office. Her smile was one of the reasons he didn’t go to Jessica yet.
Harvey likes helping people like that, but this world of corporate law just isn’t the place where you can allow yourself to help people. It’s one of the reasons he hates pro-bono’s, they make him break his walls within Pearson Hardman. He doesn’t mix those worlds easily, he likes boxing them off and away from each other.
“Course,” he smiles in return. “It’s good to bulk up, projects an image of power. Besides, I can use a new sparring buddy, my old one stopped.”
“Why?” Mike asks, sounding apprehensive, but there is a twinkle in his eye and a joking note in his voice. Harvey has never been more relieved to be teased, the Mike he knows coming through the cracks again.
“I kept being better than him,” Harvey smirks cockily, playing up the arrogant persona Mike knows well.
“Then you’ll just have to have a challenge,” Mike says.
“And you’ll give it to me?” Harvey raises a brow.
“I’m a quick study!” Mike protest.
“Well, we will just have to see that, now won’t we,” Harvey says, his smile a bit evil as he does.
Mike swallows, but doesn’t back down and Harvey is grateful for it. Mike has fire, it’s one of the reasons Harvey hired of him, he would hate to see that killed over an idiot who dares to call himself a friend.
“Here, I’m gonna get you a new ice pack, can you hold this against your lip?” Harvey asks, deciding that was enough of a moment for him for today. He also takes the tissues from Mike’s nose, the bleeding having stopped there.
“Yeah, course,” Mike answers, taking the gauze on his lip.
As he goes to get the ice pack and throw away the tissues, he pushes away the anger with what he knows best: work. They have to crash that meeting tomorrow and he needs Mike there. He should call Donna, tell her to come by early tomorrow and bring a suit for Mike and makeup to cover the bruises. The idea of sending Mike home doesn’t cross his mind for a second.
Calling Donna at this hour is dangerous, but Harvey thinks a new bag can fix it. If she sees Mike, maybe that’s not even necessary. He knows she has a soft spot for this kid and if he’s honest with himself and how he is behaving, so does he. Seeing him hurt like this, will likely make her as protective and angry as he is right now.
With the next step in mind, he returns to Mike with the ice pack. However, telling Mike about the plan is postponed when he gets there.
Silent tears are falling again and Mike softly says: “Sorry,” wiping his non-swollen eye and pressing the new ice pack to the other, practically hiding behind it. “You shouldn’t have to put up with me like this.”
“What?” Harvey says, not able to come up with a better reply.
It’s not the best response, he realizes as Mike start sniffling. “I’m just continually fucking up and then I just show up here and you have to be all nice to me, because I’m being pathetic about loosing a bit of a scuffle and-”
“Stop that, Mike,” Harvey cuts him off. “First off, this wasn’t ‘a bit of a scuffle,’ alright? Second, of course I’m gonna be nice, I’m not a fucking monster. It’s okay to come ask for help. Because, third, I told you – multiple times, by the way – that I’m the guy you tell. I am glad you came here and I didn’t have to find out because you came in with a black eye and split lip tomorrow.”
“R- really?” Mike asks, like he doesn’t believe Harvey, even though he wants to
“Really,” Harvey repeats. “God, what am I going to do with you, kid. You’re gonna give me gray hairs and I’m not old enough for that.”
Mike gives him a look that is usually accompanied with a mocking remark, but before he can begin, Harvey says: “Don’t.”
“Alright,” Mike shrugs, but he looks relieved and happier than earlier.
“Okay, so here is what’s going to happen,” Harvey gets around to proposing his plan and glad not to have to comfort Mike more (it’s not that he hates it, it’s just not his thing and he feels awkward when he does it). “You’re staying in my guest room, this is not debatable. I’m not sending you home in this condition.”
When Mike nods that he understands and Harvey continues: “I’m going to call Donna, she’s coming over tomorrow with a suit for you and makeup to make you look a bit presentable. Then we’re dealing with McKernon Motors and after all that, we’re dealing with Trevor.”
“What? You don’t have to do anything with Trevor,” Mike protests, after nodding along for the rest, having resigned himself to doing what Harvey tells him to after all that had already happened this evening draining him.
“Yes, we are,” Harvey says in a tone that allows no arguing. “I don’t care if it’s a restraining order, if we put a tail on him to get him arrested, or putting him on a bus to somewhere, but you are not seeing Trevor again.”
“I wasn’t planning on it,” Mike replies, sounding indignant, like he thinks Harvey thinks he’s stupid instead of that bleeding heart that keeps pulling him down. “But that’s a bit much. You don’t need to get involved like that, you’ve done enough.”
Harvey has a lot of things he wants to say to Mike about Trevor and the shit friend he is to Mike, but it’s also past midnight at this point and they have better things to do than to waste more breath on Trevor.
“This conversation isn’t over,” he tells Mike, who pouts, hissing at his split lip when he does. “For now, you’re going to bed. We need to get up early. Want to shower first?”
Mike still looks moody, but listens anyway, choosing not to argue. Just says: “Shower would be nice.”
“Good, it’s over there, I’ll get you a clean shirt to sleep in,” Harvey says, stepping away from the counter and dawdling long enough for Mike to get off the counter without accident, before walking away to get a shirt.
The t-shirt he picks is a Harvard one, because he is hilarious, thank you very much. Though Mike only raises a tired eyebrow when he hands it to him.
He waits outside the bathroom while Mike showers, keeping his ears peeling for the potential sound of Mike falling over as he does.
When Mike is done showering without any incidents, he is relived. Until Mike steps out the bathroom and he finally gets a good look at the extend of the damage. There is one big bruise on his upper thigh and one on his shoulder, fingers clear as day. Beyond that, his arms are more blue and black than pink and a new wave of anger washes over him.
Seeing how exhausted Mike is, he manages to suppress it for now and instead leads him over to the guest bedroom, bidding him goodnight as he turns off the light. He’s pretty sure Mike is asleep before he’s gone.
With Mike asleep he dials Donna, who picks up with an angry: “What can you possibly want at this hour, Harvey?”
“It’s important, I wouldn’t call you if it wasn’t,” he says.
Something in his voice must have given away how much he means it, because Donna just sounds concerned, not angry when she asks: “What happened?”
“Mike was attacked by an old friend of his,” he tells her, hearing her gasp. He quickly assures her: “He’s fine, mostly. He’s sleeping it off right now, but he has a couple of nasty bruises. His nose was bleeding, but not broken, and he has split his lip.”
“God that is terrible,” Donna replies, sounding the proper level of horrified and mad, just like Harvey had expected.
“Yeah and we’re getting the bastard, but later,” Harvey says. “For now I just need you to come by my condo early tomorrow. Bring a suit for Mike and makeup. We need to go to that meeting and Mike needs to look like he didn’t get put through the ringer.”
Donna sighs and mutters about it always being about work, but clearer she promises: “I’ll be there.”
“Thank you, Donna,” Harvey says sincerely.
“Of course, Harvey,” she tells him, then hangs up.
After taking care of that, the exhaustion of the evening and the emotions catches up with him and he stumbles through his evening routine, before falling in bed.
When Donna arrives the next morning, she has no clue what to expect. Harvey sounded serious yesterday and what he described was nothing good, but he also alluded that Mike is good enough to go into work, so she hopes it’s nothing that bad as she rings the bell at 5:00 AM.
Harvey is still in his pajama joggers and shirt when he opens the door. He looks like he barely slept and his shoulders are drawn tight. It isn’t that noticeable, but to Donna it is obvious that he is worried and she only recalls seeing him like that when Markus was in the hospital.
“How is he?” she asks to open the conversation.
“Still asleep,” Harvey answers, waking up enough to let her in.
The first aid kit is still on the counter, but it’s closed and there is nothing to suggest something massive went down there, which calms Donna. On the counter are also ingredients and a bowl with batter in it. “What’s this,” she inquires, indicating the bowl.
“I’m making breakfast pancakes,” Harvey says. “Want some?”
“You can make pancakes?”
“What can I say, I’m a man of many mysteries and talents,” he tells her, going to make his pancakes, correctly assuming she want some.
Once he has three sizable stacks, he open a door and kindly calls: “Mike, wake up. I have breakfast for you. You need to get out of bed. We have work.” Faintly, Mike groans something and Harvey laughs. “I am definitely not your Grammy.” Then she hears a squeak and Harvey laughs again.
He is still smiling when he gets back to the kitchen and Donna mirrors it. She is glad to see him so happy and content, Mike is the best addition they have had in a while and with Harvey smiling, he can’t be that bad off.
Naturally, that smile drops when she actually sees Mike. He is also still in his pajama, but his pajama is his boxers and a t-shirt. His arms are covered in bruises, with one on his shin and thigh as well.
Not to mention his face!
The black eye is prominent and looks horrible. His split lip is swollen and looks nasty. But his neck takes the cake, with bruising lining it like a necklace. Though choker would be a better word and she feels her blood boil at the thought. Whoever did this, is going to pay.
“Donna!” he exclaims when he sees her, his cheeks pinking. “Ah, sorry, I don’t have pants right now.”
“It’s okay, sweetheart,” she says, pushing her anger aside for concern and care. “God, how are you feeling? Are you okay?”
“Oh, yeah, uhm, I’m fine,” he assures her, taking the plate Harvey hands him and tentatively sitting next to Donna, Harvey sitting down on the other side of him at the breakfast bar.
“Are you sure?” Donna asks, her eyes gentle but probing.
“Still can’t really believe that happened, but I’m better now,” he reassures her again. “Harvey is going to teach me self-defense and I’m happy about that!”
He shares that as a positive upbeat thing, meant to distract her. However, she has also worked in the DA office and that statement tells her a bit about his mental state about it. Behind his back, she shares a look with Harvey, who communicates: later.
Breakfast passes with no more words said about the whole thing. Mike gets dressed in the suit Donna got him, telling her he wants to pay her back for it, something she denies him, telling him she used Harvey’s credit card anyway.
During the makeup part, she feels a bit like a terrible person as Mike winces as she pressed product onto his sore face. However, he sits through it like a champ and in the end you can only tell what happened to him if you’re up close and paying attention.
Satisfied with her handiwork, Donna declares him ready to leave and the two men leave for the hotel where there’s a meeting they have to crash.
While they do that, Donna goes to the office. As promised, Harvey send her an email in the car detailing more what happened and who did it. Along with Mike’s wishes of them not getting involved and how they are going to ignore those.
She realizes that Harvey is going to agree with Mike when he asks him again to stay out of it, so she’s subtle in what she does. But if she’s correct (which she always is) Trevor’s girlfriend will leave him soon and more that 3/4 of his clientele will mysteriously go to another buyer. He will also run into some cops on an unfortunate moment.
With that done, she sets to updating her network to include people that keep an eye on this Trevor asshole and people that will keep a different kind of eye on Mike. He doesn’t need more shit about this and she would hate it if something happened that set him off, because it reminded him off last night.
Later Mike will be relieved Harvey doesn’t bring up a restraining order again and is grateful for Donna’s extra concern. Not to mention Harvey being there whenever an associate gets too close for Mike to be comfortable with yet (how he does it, Mike doesn’t know).
Slowly his wounds will heal, he’ll get more comfortable and more secure in the fighting techniques Harvey shows him. It’s not perfect, but he feels safe with the people he has around him now and that’s worth more than he can tell them.
~~
A/N:
I had a lot of fun handing over the POV to every new arrival lmao
Also, the fact that Mike had two tissues in his nose for most of time is kinda sending me, ngl. I always do that when I have a nose bleed and it looks so fucking stupid. But like, in this context, it’s a bit sad too
So the ice cream lady is apparently the Snow Queen and she’s cursed Marian to become frozen! And she’s also, apparently, Elsa’s aunt and was trapped in the urn before Elsa was. Interesting that Elsa’s mother never thought to tell her scared daughter that ice powers run in the family! And Emma finally pushes past some of her trust issues with Hook!
Summary: Marian becomes frozen and True Love’s Kiss doesn’t work when Robin tries to save her. Hook resorts to blackmail to find out who else has powers like Elsa. In the past, Elsa and Kristoff fight Hans and his brothers and end up discovering a long-lost relative.
Opening: Any Given Sundae
New Characters:
Will Scarlet: He’s apparently an outcast from the Merry Men. How he’s come to be in Storybrooke is a mystery. He’s a thief and will always be a thief. The most helpful thing he does is show Emma and David that the ice cream shop doesn’t use anything to keep the ice cream cold. (For those that don’t know, Will was a favorite on the spin-off Once Upon a Time in Wonderland)
Character Observations:
The Snow Queen: She doesn’t have a name in Arendelle or Storybrooke yet, but Emma refers to her as the Snow Queen, so that’s what we’re going with. In Arendelle, she is revealed to have been trapped in the urn Hans was going to use to trap Elsa. Instead, the Snow Queen freezes Hans and scares his brothers away. She is revealed to be Elsa’s mother’s sister.
In Storybrooke, she is determined to make people think that Elsa is behind all the freezing mayhem that is going on. She does some kind of magic to Marian’s ice cream cone which eventually makes her frozen. She attempts to kill Hook in order to make it look like Elsa did it. Luckily, Emma comes and saves him. But the Snow Queen clearly knows Emma somehow, even if she doesn’t remember. Elsa also doesn’t remember her, but the Snow Queen tells her the Rock Trolls took her memories like they did with Anna when she was younger. She eventually disappears. We later see her talking to Gold. He offers to help her, which she rejects. He also warns her about Emma remembering her.
Regina: How the hell did she run a kingdom when she is terrible at subterfuge? She attempts to hook Henry in by buying him comic books and then makes obvious comments about how the storybook doesn’t have an author. Henry sees through her immediately. She goes on about finding the author and getting her happy ending. Henry, instead of telling her that’s not how this works, tells her it’s her best idea yet. Oy vey! Meanwhile, Marian has been frozen and Robin asks for her help to reverse whatever curse has been put upon her. It’s interesting that she automatically blames Elsa, when she, herself, has been unjustly accused of magical things happening in Storybrooke that ended up being other people (Cora in The Cricket Game).  She claims she’s trying to change, but she still jumps to conclusions at the first chance she gets. Elsa says only an act of true love can save Marian, so Robin kisses her, which doesn’t work. David claims the ice is acting as a barrier like when Frederick was turned to gold in What Happened to Frederick, but Robin later tells Regina it didn’t work because he’s in love with someone else. Regina takes it with grace, since he and Marian are technically still married. They decide to take Marian’s heart so she’s not frozen completely, and Regina can work on reversing the curse.
Emma: Her magic is acting wonky, but she won’t admit it. Regina calls her out on it when she goes to try and figure out what caused the freezing spell on Marian. Emma thinks she’s still mad about her bringing Marian back in the first place. Which, she’s not wrong, but also, neither is Regina. Hook wants to go with her, but she tells him to take Elsa to the sheriff’s station to protect her from the townspeople who think she’s responsible for Marian. Hook doesn’t want to leave Emma, but she gets angry and asks him to just listen to her for once. At Robin’s tent, Emma comes across former Merry Man, Will Scarlet. He runs when he finds out she’s the sheriff, but is taken down by David. Will gives them information about the ice cream shop’s ice cream still being frozen hours after the blackout happened. Will attempts to pick the lock of the ice cream shop to show them, but Emma gets impatient and does it for him, much to David’s surprise. They discover that Will was telling the truth when they see the back room is frozen. And also Will takes off and steals money from the till. Emma wants to go after him, but David says they have more important things to do concerning Marian and she can go after Will another time. Emma expresses self-doubt about her abilities, but David tries to lift her spirits. Emma and David arrive to the Snow Queen trying to kill Hook. The Snow Queen taunts Emma that her magic isn’t stronger than hers, but Emma knocks her back with a blast of magic and manages to magic David and Hook out of the way of the falling icicles. After the Snow Queen disappears, Emma tells David and Hook that the way the Snow Queen said her name sounded familiar, like she’d heard it before. Hook offers to help look for her lair, but Emma gets pissed at him for not following her directions and almost getting himself killed. Emma talks to Elsa who is upset that the Snow Queen told her that Anna put her in the urn. Emma thinks they’re all pawns for something bigger, since Emma brought Elsa there accidentally, but the Snow Queen was already there. Emma doesn’t think the curse brought her to Storybrooke. Emma runs into Hook outside of Granny’s and she’s not happy with his shenanigans. He accuses her of not trusting him, but Emma tells him the truth. She does trust him, but she’s afraid he’s going to get himself killed since every other guy she’s been with is dead. Hook promises her he’s a survivor and they start kissing in the middle of the street!
Hook: He certainly does not like being told what to do, which gets him in trouble with Emma, but not for the reasons he thinks. We start with him, Emma, and Elsa questioning Gold about how Elsa and the urn ended up in his vault. He claims not to know. Hook isn’t buying his BS about turning over a new leaf for a second. Even when Belle compels him to tell the truth with the dagger, you can tell he’s not buying it. Emma, Elsa, and Hook go to the mayor’s office when Marian has been frozen. Emma goes to look for whomever is responsible and Hook wants to go with her. He’s very upset when she asks him to take Elsa to the sheriff’s station instead. Immediately, Hook and Elsa decide not to follow Emma’s orders and take the investigation into their own hands. By going to Gold’s shop and blackmailing him. Can I just say how much this pains me to see Hook stooping so low when he’s trying to prove to Emma how trustworthy he is? To secretly go to Gold and blackmail him because he knows Belle doesn’t have the real dagger to get what he wants is the opposite of everything he’s trying to prove to Emma. I mean, I know it does help them find out where the ice cream lady/Snow Queen is, but using a way that harkens back to his villainous days is not the way to go about it. Sigh. Gold changes a piece of Marian’s frozen hair into snowflakes that leads Hook and Elsa to the Snow Queen. Hook attempts to call Emma, but she doesn’t answer and has to leave a message (the crux of which is, why did she get him a phone if she never answers it, lol). When Hook and Elsa attempt to leave to go find Emma (since she’s not answering the phone), Hook’s feet are frozen by the Snow Queen. Luckily, Emma saves him before the Snow Queen’s plan to kill him takes place. Later that night, Hook is drinking at Granny’s and Emma’s still pissed at him. He accuses her of not trusting him, but she says she does trust him. She’s just afraid of him getting killed. He tells her he’s a survivor before kissing her. And, this is the first time Hook has initiated a kiss with Emma, she’s initiated it every other time. Hot! Hot! Hot!
Elsa and Kristoff: In Arendelle, Elsa is freaking out over Anna. Kristoff is trying to calm her down by relaying all of Anna’s heroic feats, but Elsa is stressing big time. She then gets a report that Hans has an army and is heading towards Arendelle. Kristoff wants to go see what’s up, but Elsa won’t let him, using his status as Anna’s groom as her reasoning. He goes out anyway and overhears Hans telling his brothers about a magical urn. Kristoff reports back to Elsa that it can contain magical beings like her. He wants to bring some soldiers to go destroy the urn. Elsa wants to avoid war. She suggests just she and Kristoff go. Elsa almost walks herself off a cliff while she and Kristoff have a heart to heart. They get to the cave with the urn and Elsa goes to destroy it, but then some runes show up on it, and she’s trying to decipher them when Hans and his brothers enter. Elsa fights off two of them with her ice powers, and Kristoff dispatches another with a sword, but then Hans gets the drop on Kristoff and threatens to make Anna a widow if Elsa doesn’t hand over the urn (and Kristoff, with a sword to his neck, still makes a joke that he and Anna aren’t married so she wouldn’t technically be a widow). Elsa ends up giving Hans the urn, despite Kristoff’s protests. Hans continues to be the worst person ever by telling Elsa that she doesn’t belong anywhere so he’s going to put her in the urn like she doesn’t exist, which plays on all of Elsa’s magic insecurities. But surprise, surprise, when he opens the urn to put her inside, the Snow Queen comes out instead. And she freezes Hans and his brothers run off. Elsa is in heaven meeting someone who has ice powers like herself. They compare stories about making snowmen come to life and building ice castles. The Snow Queen sees the painting of Elsa’s parents and lets her know Elsa’s mother was her sister, making her Elsa’s aunt. Elsa is understandably confused as her mother never mentioned a sister. Elsa lets her know her mother was lost at sea and it’s just her and Anna now. She tells her how scared she is that Anna is missing, and the Snow Queen promises she’ll help her find her, because that is what family does.
In Storybrooke, Elsa is accused of using her powers to freeze Marian. Emma wants her and Hook to stay at the sheriff’s station, but they go looking for whomever actually froze Marian. They eventually find the Snow Queen in the woods. The Snow Queen wants the town to turn against Elsa and she doesn’t understand why. She tells Elsa the Rock Trolls stole her memories of when they met in Arendelle, but doesn’t say why. She also tells Elsa that Anna put her in the urn. Elsa is adamant that Anna would never do that.
Mary Margaret: She attempts to have a ‘fireside chat’ as the mayor to go over items in the town (complete with baby Neal in her arms), but all anyone wants to talk about is Elsa.Things go south quickly when Marian starts literally turning to ice. After the meeting, Mary Margaret gets some unsolicited advice from Archie about needing to let things go, meaning she doesn’t need to have baby Neal with her constantly and she’ll be better if they aren’t attached at the hip. Mary Margaret is obviously afraid she’ll miss something if she isn’t there with him constantly because of missing out on Emma growing up.
Questions:
Why isn’t Emma’s lie detector blaring when Gold says he’s decided to turn over a new leaf? Or when he says he’s given Belle the dagger? There should be sirens going off in her head.
Exactly how far away is Misthaven from Arendelle? With all the magic going on in the Enchanted Forest, how have they not heard of it in Arendelle?
Since the Snow Queen acknowledges Elsa is queen, why didn’t she realize her sister would have to be dead for that to happen? She seems genuinely shocked when Elsa tells her.
How did Elsa’s urn end up in Gold’s vault? Did the Snow Queen give it to Rumple since we know they know each other?
Have Gold and the Snow Queen been talking since the curse broke? How does he know that she knew Emma once? Does that mean the Snow Queen has been out of Storybrooke?
Observations:
This is the most casual we’ve ever seen Regina. Her hair is in a messy ponytail and she’s wearing a t-shirt and vest!
Emma looks amazing in this episode also. She’s letting her freckles shine through, and she just looks cute as a button.
The two comic books we see Regina get Henry are Thor and ShenLu.
Regina and Henry decide their search for the author will be called Operation Mongoose.
Hook tells Gold that he could have Belle summon him with the dagger and when he didn’t appear she’d have proof the dagger isn’t real. We’ve seen plenty of times when all someone had to do is say Rumpelstiltskin's name (even in other realms) and he’d appear.
The cage that Kristoff puts his torch in is already lit when he and Elsa enter the cave. Then he lights it again. Or there is another cage already lit, which should be a red flag that someone is already in the cave.
Hook now has a cell phone and it has an ‘Emma’ button.
Once Upon a Time Firsts:
Magic can change form but never be destroyed.
So, we find out a little bit more about the Snow Queen, but not what her end goal is yet. She is obviously very bitter about something having to do with her magic and people fearing it, and she doesn’t seem to care if people are okay with it like they are in Storybrooke. I am not happy about Hook blackmailing Gold as it just goes against everything he’s worked so hard to put in his past. But Emma and Hook seem to be getting on the right path for being together despite that! Yay!
SEASON 1 REWATCH THOUGHTS:
• 1x01 Was the storm El's first experience of rain? It must've been strange and scary and reminded her of the sensory deprivation tank being around so much water. I have a theory with all the noise (she uses the shower noise in S3 like this) to go into her void and that' where she sees and recognises Will in the woods.
• 1x01 To add to the above, the boys in the forest hear a noise before they find El in a different place than where she is. Is it possible they could've heard Will in the upside down somehow?
• 1x01 I think it HAS to be Vecna that took Will in S1, its too good to not be true. With the door unlocking from the inside, the giant left hand, Will not immediately being eaten like Barb was. It's unclear whether or not he took the gun to the upside down with him, but we know from S1 Nancy and S4 Russian prison guard that bullets don't stop it.
• 1x03 Getting major stand by me vibes from the kids, they better not kill off Johnathan in S5 paralleling Gordie losing his brother
• 1x03 Karen having her very similar "you can talk to me" convo's with her kids both paralleling each other, Nancy's being about her crush on a boy, Mike's being about his crush on a boy I mean, his friend
• 1x03 The theory about Will running in a circle to make the circle of lamps light up around Holly doesn't seem to work in canon, because the beds right in the way of where he would need to stand and spin, and the lights are going way too fast. Either a plot hole or WILL HAS POWERS
• 1x04 Could Will hear Mike talking to him through the radio in the basement? Is that why in S2 he does the same thing with El because Will told him he could hear him, he just couldn't reply????
• 1x04 Mike putting makeup on El and it immediately cutting to Dustin pulling out and pointing at fairy wings... Troy, about Will: "flying around with some other fairy". He seemed like he knew what he was doing with the makeup too which isn't super common for a young boy... makes me think he's done it before
• 1x04 Need more of Mike pushing over homophobes in ST5, that shit was iconic
• Did Will stay in and around his house the whole week he was in the upside down? Every time we see/hear him, he's there or in Castle Byers nearby. You'd think there would be food in the upside down from whatever was there the night Will disappeared, but if time's frozen, would it stay 'fresh'? Like would there be anything he could eat or drink? Did he have to venture further into town for supplies at any point?
• If we're returning to S1 vibes in S5, there's a bunch of flashbacks we see for Joyce about happy times with Will, I'm not sure if that's something that' happened in other seasons? I hope it comes back for S5
• We know there's not only one demogorgon in the upside down (which can apparently make temporary gates themselves to hunt?) so how come no more people got eaten whilst El was missing in S2?
• 1x06 The woods Jon and Nancy go shooting and searching in are near where the demogorgon has attacked right? So you'd assume that's not too far from the byers house, and Will may have been nearby when Nancy entered the upside down. Not close enough to find her and the tree-gate she escapes through (which closes immediately afterward), but close enough to hear her shouting for Jon
• 1x06 There's a treehouse outside of Terri's house, did her and her sister grow up there together?
• 1x06 Oh god the cliffside scene. If the show actually leans into Mike's suicidal feelings and he ends up back there... Like through Vecna's manipulation or otherwise
the bond - chapter two.
Tumblr media
*bond: a relationship between people or groups based on shared feelings, interests, or experiences.
word count: 5.028
based off of: 1x02 and 1x03
a/n: a little enemies to lovers romance, eh? this chapters also nearly twice as long as the first and im incredibly proud of it!
tag list: @ernyaeger let me know if you’d like to be added!
Her hand in your hand feels colder than normal.
And it’s weak. There’s no grip that returns your own, and instead her hand lays limp in your own as you clutch onto it tightly, practically squeezing in between your own fingers; as if desperately willing your mother to open her eyes and shake her head at you with that fond smile she’s always looked at you with.
“Everything’ll be okay,” she’d whisper to you, taking you into her arms like she had when you were younger and she still had the strength to hold you. “We’ll be safe, I promise.”
And the reality is you’re far too lost in that moment to even properly realize the danger around you. The fear that had struck you just minutes before when you’d seen that giant titan tower over the wall, and then the hole in the walls that had always been there; always protected you, letting in titans... was just gone.
Your mother had been your strength, your will to fight - without her, nothing mattered to you anymore.
You sit there, crouched over her laid back body, her hand in your own as tears pour from your eyes without fault. You don’t hear the pounding footsteps of titans or the screams of those running for their lives. You don’t hear the approaching titan, growing closer by every second, it’s eyes targeted on you and only you. And you most definitely don’t hear the quieter, much, much quieter footsteps that also grow closer.
“--Come on, Y/N. Come on, darling.”
Hands fall on you, yanking, but you shake your head, fighting the grip.
“We need to go, Y/N. Come on.”
“But...” And the words come out muffled, desperate, scrambling out without much coherent sense. “But... mama--”
“Y/N. Y/N, look at me.” Hands grab at your face, pulling, until your eyes are pulled away from your mothers still body to a familiar pair of eyes. “Your mother wouldn’t want you to die here, okay? She’d want you to live.”
Her words echo through your mind, and with a blink you realize it’s Ms. Schneider. Ms. Schneider who lived in the middle of town, Ms. Schneider who had run the opposite direction of everyone else in the midst of all this chaos and panic and fear, to find you.
“We have to go.”
You’re brave and strong, and I know you’ll make it.
With tears blurring your vision, you chance one last glance back at your mother, at her body, and then up, at the titan that is suddenly terrifyingly close.
Find your father.
With a slight, weak hum of agreement, you nod at Ms. Schneider, taking her extended hand held towards you and letting your fingers thread through her own before clasping tightly. Your legs feel weak beneath you, but you ignore the feeling, pushing through, and letting Ms. Schneider be your guide forward. She’ll know the way out, she’ll know how to get to safety.
Thumping footsteps echo in your mind, and despite the voice that whispers in your head telling you not to look back -- your head spins, and your eyes widen, lips parting in horror as the titan that had been chasing after you and your mother all but stomps on her still body. Crushing it beneath it’s weight. It’s foot is twice, maybe even three times the size of your mother, and you feel your entire body jerk as it crushes her beneath it’s weight, and blood gushes out from beneath the cracks.
When it lifts it’s leg, her body... her body is unrecognizable. It’s... just blood and guts and nothing that even looks remotely similar to your mother.
“And even when I’m not there, I always am.”
A poke to the forehead, gentle but firm, your eyes peer up at your mother as she smiles warmly down at you.
“But mama,” you call, grabbing her wrist in your own smaller hand, yanking slightly on the sleeve as you shake your head. “How’s that possible?” Your head tilts to the side in confusion, brows furrowed and lips curled into a cute pout that has your mother’s heart warming in adoration for you in response.
“Because,” she says gently, voice but a whisper. “All you have to do is close your eyes,” she mimics the action, smile never faltering. “And I’ll be there. Here, close your eyes.”
You don’t hesitate to listen.
“Now, think of me, picture me in your mind.”
Your lips purse, fists clenching in concentration as you do as she says. And, almost instantly a bright giggle leaves your lips as your mothers smiling face appears in your mind, a shadowed image, before your eyes snap open and you grin up at your mother. “Mama, mama! It worked! I saw you!”
Letting out a light laugh, she nods; “see?” She takes your hand in her own, squeezing it. “All you have to do is think of me, and I’ll always be there.”
But when your eyes fall shut now, all you see is her mangled, crushed, destroyed body.
Your steps falter, and it feels like your whole entire being gives out as you buckle under your weight.
That image... the image of your mother being stomped on - like she was nothing, nothing but an obstacle to a goal, blood gushing out of her... would never leave your head.
You don’t hear Ms. Schneider call out for you, don’t hear her screaming your name. Nothing registers in your mind, the sounds of yelling and chaos once again fading to the back as the tears resurface, and they come streaming down your cheeks.
Not wasting another second, Ms. Schneider picks you up from under your arms, hoisting you against herself, before breaking out into a run once more. You don’t fight her, body limp in her arms, your eyes never leaving the image of that titan. It’s attention as been resurfaced on you and Ms. Schneider, sloppily running towards the both of you.
You’re slung over Ms. Schneiders shoulder, and your hands fall to the back of her shirt, gripping the material tightly between your fingers. You grip onto it because it’s the only thing that feels right, the only thing you can do as Ms. Schneider runs through the streets you’d spent your entire childhood running through. Laughing, skipping, singing...
Houses are destroyed, peoples bodies left forgotten, blood everywhere...
Everything ruined.
It feels like a blink of the eye, but in fact is a while of running, before you’re surrounded by people, all grouped together towards something. You chance a glance back, noticing the boat, and the groups of people lined up trying to get on. But you also notice how full the boat is, and a simple glance to the right tells you it’s the last one.
Ms. Schneider shoves her way through, pushing and pulling and ignoring the angry shouts that come her way as response. You receive a nasty elbow to the side, but barely register it. Everything feels like a blur, a mess of time and you’re not really able to focus on anything, hear anything, as all you can think about is your mother and her... her body.
“Please!” A scream cuts through the crowd, it falling silent in response at the shriek of it, of how loud it is, and shock echoes as all eyes fall towards you. The scream hurts your ears, and takes you a second to realize it’s Ms. Schneider who’d been the one. “Please, wait!” She cries, and as you turn back around, shifting in her grip, you notice the dock slowly being brought up.
Chaos ensues as the shock of her scream fades and blends in with the rest, and bodies push and shove at you and Ms. Schneider.
But she doesn’t falter. Doesn’t hesitate.
“I have a little girl! She’s only nine! She’s just a child! Please, please at least take her! Just take the child!”
Everything fades back in and your heart sinks.
Just the child?
“I’m sorry, mam,” one of the soldiers at the front falters, his lips pursed in a deep frown. “But we’re full--”
“She’s only nine! She won’t take up barely any room!” She’s crying. You can’t see it on her face, but you can hear it. Her hands grip you tightly, and she’s shaking violently. “I promised her mother I’d take care of her if anything happened to her. I just want her to be safe. Please, just take her!”
“What?” You echo, voice small. Not heard.
“Mam--”
“I don’t want on!” Ms. Schneider continues to plead, head shaking violently as she steps forward. “Just the girl!”
Your body freezes.
“We don’t--”
There’s pounding footsteps, then;
“Oh for pity’s sake, it’s a child!”
The thumping footsteps grow closer and then a new pair of hands are grabbing at you. They’re larger, rougher and you’re yanked away from Ms. Schneider before you even finish blinking. Suddenly, you’re on the other side of the crowd, looking back at it, and meeting Ms. Schneider’s eyes from the other side. She’s crying, tears pouring down her cheeks, but her hands are clasped in front of her and she’s bowing her head.
“Thank you! Thank you so much! I cannot thank you enough!”
You look back at the man that’s grabbed you. He has a mustache and blonde hair and he’s already maneuvering you over to the boat, but panic strikes within you and you’re fighting his grip.
You don’t want to lose Ms. Schneider too.
You don’t want to leave her.
“Wait, no! Ms. Schneider!” You glance back over at her, shaking your head. “I don’t want to leave you! Ms. Schneider, no, please... let me go!”
“It’s okay, Y/N,” she calls out, voice muffled by the sounds of men and women crying and pleading to be let on too. She’s sniffling, wiping at her tears and trying to appear less scared. In fact, she’s smiling and it seems... genuine. Like she couldn’t be happier. “You just be a good girl for your mother and I, okay? Everything will be okay.”
You push and pull at the mans grip, but he’s unrelenting; “Ms. Schneider! No, please, wait!”
“Everything will be okay,” she calls as the dock is reeled up again, and her body disappears behind the wood so that you can no longer see her. “You’ll be okay!”
You’re on the boat, and the man holding you maneuvers around bodies before placing you beside a young boy and girl, the same age as you. You look up at the man as he sets you down, smiling kindly down at you, and then the two next to you, before turning and walking off. The little girl beside you glances at you, but you don’t say anything, don’t even look at her.
You curl into yourself, pulling your knees against your chest, and unknowingly -- make a very similar expression to the boy sat next to her.
And as the boat starts moving, and it gains a bit of speed, you’re able to peer through the crowd, through the masses of bodies, ignoring the men and women that throw themselves at the boats - and see a familiar head of dark blonde hair. It’s tied up in that familiar bun Ms. Schneider always wears it in, and her gaze is trained on the boat.
You’re getting farther and farther away and yet, somehow, it seems like her gaze is completely focused on you.
And she’s still smiling.
You make a promise to yourself then, one that came all too easily. It felt like there was nothing else that made more sense to you in that exact moment. Nothing else you’ve could’ve promised yourself.
And the tears in your eyes fade as anger threads through your very being. A deep set anger that makes your chest hurt and your heart wail, but it still... feels right.
You’d kill every last titan on this earth if it was the last thing you ever did.
-
You keep your head forward, but can’t help but chance glances around at the men and women surrounding you.
This was it. Finally. After waiting two years, you were here.
Training to be in the Survey Corps.
There are some, some of those around you that you see yourself in. They have look, a dark one in their eyes, and you can tell the Commander feels the same as he walks pass them and doesn’t interrogate them as he does some of the others.
He does the same with you. Not even sparing you a single glance.
You didn’t care if he yelled at you or not. Nor did the man scare you. Sure, he was a little unpleasant to look at and he definitely had a nasty look to his face; but nothing was going to take this moment from you. This may only be the beginning, this may only be training, but you were more than determined to prove yourself a worthy soldier of the Survey Corps.
This was what you’d been waiting two years for.
This is what you’d been waiting for since the wall fell, and you’d lost everything.
“Who are you!”
“Jean Kirschstein, from Trost!” A voice calls out, surprisingly catching your attention as your eyes snap towards the voice. Your lips purse and your brow raises in curiosity at the sight of a boy, no older than you, tall, light-ash-brown hair. By the look on his face, he seems confident.
A little too confident.
“What are you doing here?”
He hesitates, words catching in the back of his throat, before he eases; “joining the Military Police, for a life deep within the walls.”
Swallowing thickly, you internally scoff - not wanting to make a scene.
You knew there was people like it, of course you did - but you still couldn’t imagine living such a sheltered, easy life to think the only goal in life was to live where it was safest. It was such a selfish was of living... knowing so many people died.
Knowing so many people sacrificed their lives.
“Oh, I see,” Shadis laughs, “you want access to the Interior?”
His face brightens, and your brows furrow.
“Yes!”
His answer is a harsh headbutt to the forehead, knocking him to his knees.
You restrain the urge to smile.
“Who said you could sit down!? Anyone who can’t handle this will never make the Military Police!”
He turns without another glance at Jean, turning to another boy. “Who are you? What are you doing here?”
“Marco Bott, Jinae City, Wall Rose South District!” You eye the boy carefully, noticing the ever so present innocent look in his eyes. “I want to join the Military Police, to offer the King my body and self in service!”
Interesting...
“Really? I’m glad to hear that.” Shadis calls back, leaning away from the boy. “Good luck. However...” And he moves to walk away, before turning back, moving so close to the boys face there’s barely an inch between them. “The King doesn’t want your body.”
He moves on, once again without even sparing the boy another glance, moving onto a boy named Connie who manages to do the salute wrong - earning him a interrogation for an entirely different reason.
However, it falls short as the sound of loud chewing fills the otherwise silent field.
Your lips part in stunned disbelief at the sight of a girl eating a potato.
“Hey, you...” Shadis calls out, moving towards her. “What are you doing?” The girl seems confused, glancing around as if wondering who he’s talking to before he shoves his face right into her own, yelling out; “you’re the one I’m talking to! You! Who are you?!”
Swallowing the piece of the potato she’d bit off, she quickly moves to make the salute; “Sasha Blause, from Dauper village, Wall Rose South District!”
“Sasha Blause, what are you holding in your right hand?”
“A boiled potato!” She answers brightly, naively unaware. “The kitchen had a fresh batch, and I couldn’t resist.”
“Did you steal it? Why? Why would you choose to eat a potato now?”
“Letting it get cold would’ve been a waste, so I decided I should eat it now.”
One quick glance at the girls face, and you can tell she’s entirely serious.
“Well, I still don’t understand... why would you eat that potato?”
Her face furrows; “are you asking me why people eat potatoes?”
Your lips part, stunned.
There’s a pause, and then her face lights up, moving from the salute to rip the potato in half and hold it towards Shadis’ face. “You can have half...”
He takes the half in his hands, stunned; “half...”
And then, she smiles at him.
Needless to say, she was punished. Last you heard, she’d been told to run until she dropped. Honestly, she’d seemed more distressed about missing dinner than anything. Which you thought was funny, considering the thought of running until you couldn’t anymore seemed a lot more distressing than simply missing dinner.
Then again, she had brought a potato to introduction...
Letting a small smile fall on your lips, you shake your head. Sasha certainly seemed like an interesting girl, not at all the type you’d expected to see in the Training Cadets. But, you figured, it brought a bit of lightheartedness to the otherwise strict environment.
You’re positive you’ll get along with her, at the least.
Her innocence was intriguing, given how dark your own heart felt.
You wondered what the rest of the cadets would be like as you ate dinner, glancing around at the rest of those who hadn’t quit on the first day. There was still a decent number of people. And this would be the first time you’d all get to chat and meet each other without Shadis breathing down your necks and interrogating the weaker ones.
You weren’t that interested in making a lot of friends - or at least that’s what you’d told yourself. You’d spent the better part of the last two years by yourself, getting by where you could; your sole goal being joining the Survey Corps. You thought of nothing else but your end goal, the thought of your mother and Ms. Schneider being your one remaining determination to keep your promise.
You’d kill every last titan until you couldn’t anymore.
But, sitting here, surrounded by so many others, all your age or around it, you realized just how lonely you’ve been. Isolating yourself didn’t seem so important anymore as you sat in the barracks, listening to people talk and laugh and have fun.
It felt like you didn’t even know how to have fun anymore.
“A life’s not worth living without a little bit of fun, darling.”
Your mother was right. Living a life alone seemed terrifyingly lonely now, sitting here.
A thud falls next to you, pulling you from your thoughts. Blinking, you turn, only for your brows to furrow in confusion at who decided to sit next to you.
Of all the people--
“I can’t believe everyone really cares that much.”
Your lips curl into a frown, confused at Jean’s words, before you realize he’s not even looking at you and instead to his left. Following his line of vision, your lips part in realization when you realize he’s talking about Eren, or at least that’s what you thought you’d heard him introduce himself as, surrounded by a mass group of your fellow cadets.
“--No, it wasn’t that tall.”
You’d been distantly listening in to his conversation, mildly interested when you realize he was talking about that day. The day the wall fell.
You’d remembered seeing him in the crowd earlier, and he’d caught your attention because he’d looked familiar. Now, thinking back, you’re pretty sure he’s the boy who you’d been sitting next to on the boat when you’d left Shiganshina...
You’re also pretty sure he’s the boy who knocked you on your ass that same day.
“Can you?”
With a start, you realize Jean’s talking to you.
Shrugging, you turn back to your dinner. “They must’ve heard the stories from that day,” you explain, “it’s different when you hear it from someone that was actually there.”
Jean scoffs, rolling his eyes as his head falls into the palm of his hand. “They’re gullible.”
“You think he’s lying?”
Shrugging, Jean nods; “I mean, I wasn’t there... but I highly doubt he was able to pay all that much attention to the titans when he was too busy running.”
Eye narrowing, a flare of anger courses through your body. How dare he...
“You’d said you wanted to join the Military Police, yeah?” You call out with a bite to your voice. Jean blinks at you, surprised by the anger in your eyes as you glare at him. “A way in, so you wouldn’t have to fight?”
“Well... I-I mean, it’s not exactly like that--”
“It felt that way to me,” you cut him off.
He looks stunned for a moment, before he narrows his eyes at you. “What does it matter to you anyway?” He calls out, back straightening as he calls to defend himself. “What’s even your name? The Commander didn’t ask you.”
“Y/N Y/L/N,” you introduce, never wavering. “I’m from Shiganshina too.”
Jean’s lips part, and almost distantly you see a look of guilt pass through his eyes.
Taking another bite out of your stew, you shake your head at him. “I personally think he’s brave, being able to talk about it like that.” Then, you pause, faltering just slightly. “Though, he could gloat a little less.”
Jean’s face softens, just slightly at that, but he doesn’t say anything more. He refocuses his attention of Eren, instinctively turning his body away from you. You figure you’ve embarrassed him, not that you’re all that concerned about it - someone who wants to run away to the Interior just to save himself certainly doesn’t have the right to talk about bravery.
“--The titans aren’t all that tough...” Your ears perk at Eren’s words, frowning slightly. “If we can master the Three-Dimensional Maneuver Gear, they won’t stand a chance! Finally, I’m able to train as a soldier... I was just so excited, I forgot myself for a second. I’m joining the Survey Corps, so I can wipe the Titan’s off the face of this earth.”
Looking down at your stew, you let a small smile fall on your lips.
His ambition was just the same as yours.
“I’ll kill them all--”
“Hey, are you nuts?”
Blinking, you turn back over to Jean, shaking your head.
“Did you just say you want to join the Survey Corps?”
Rolling your eyes, you speak up; “and what’s so wrong about that?”
Unknowingly, your comment pulls Eren’s eyes on you in surprise - that was the first time someone had ever really defended his decision to join the Survey Corps.
“Well, I just mean...” Jean laughs, turning from you back to Eren. “Did you really mean it?”
“Yeah, I did,” Eren straightens out, glancing away from you and back to Jean, “and you said you wanted to join the Military Police to take it easy, right?”
“I’m no liar...” Jean answers simply. “I’m a straight talker, unlike someone who pretends to have balls of steel, even when he’s about to piss himself.”
“Hey--!”
You’re cut off by Eren jumping to a stand, the chair behind him screeching across the floor as he slams his hand on the table before him. His gaze is focused solely on Jean, eyes dark; “are you talking about me?”
“Don’t...”
“Hey, I didn’t...” Jean says gently, moving to stand himself.
The two move towards one another, coming to a stand before each other, but just before either can talk, a loud bell rings. That meant dinner time was over.
“Well, I’m sorry,” Jean says after a moment, “I didn’t want to say you’re doing the wrong thing.” Then, extending his hand out towards him, he smiles. “Peace?”
“Yeah. I’m sorry, too.” Eren says simply, slapping his hand before moving to leave. A girl with long black hair quickly moves to follow him, and as she walks past, you notice a bright blush flood onto Jean’s cheeks. Shaking your head, you move to stand too, stepping past the girl with a simple nod, before heading out.
After all, it was your first day of training tomorrow.
-
“You were really good today!”
Blinking at the sound of a new, high pitched voice, you turn your head to the left, finding the potato girl - Sasha - standing next to you. She’s looking down at you with a bright grin, sparkling eyes, and as you glance back at your other wise empty table, your head tilts in wonder.
It wasn’t that you didn’t really want to talk to anybody, it’s just... you don’t know, maybe you’re hard to approach?
Training had gone well, and when you’d gone back to the barracks to eat, you’d been one of the first people there. You’d simply sat at a table, and started eating, and as the rest filed in, no one really... moved to sit next to you. Jean had promptly ignored you when you’d seen him come in, and Eren had chanced a small glance at you, before his face had gone red and he’d turned, moving to sit with the girl, Mikasa, and blonde boy, Armin, he was always with.
You’re shocked Sasha even approached you.
“Thank you,” you nod, a gentle smile falling on your lips.
“No, I mean, really good.” She exclaims brightly, moving to sit next to you, “you were like one of the first people to be able to stand straight and balance. I think the only other one who beat you was Mikasa,” she points over her shoulder at the girl. You glance back at her, noticing she’s turned towards Eren, and she seems to be saying something desperately to him.
“Yeah, but you caught on too.” You shake your head, “I remember seeing you. You didn’t seem to struggle at all.”
“Yeah,” she flushes, rubbing the back of her neck. “The biggest shock was Eren... I really thought if anyone would be able to balance, it’d be him.”
Frowning, you think back to earlier today. Sasha’s right, especially after all his talk yesterday at dinner, you’d really thought he’d be able to balance. He’d seemed so determined after all, and all he’d managed to do today was make a huge fool of himself in front of everyone.
“Yeah,” you nod lightly, “I was pretty shocked. Especially, when yesterday, I think it was when you were running.., he’d sounded so determined to join the Survery Corps. But he can’t really join them if he can’t even balance on the omni gear, can he? And...--”
You falter when you realize it looks like Sasha has simply stopped listening, blatantly looking at you.
“Um, yes?”
“Can I have that?”
She points at something on the table, and you blink when you realize she’s pointing at your bread.
Blinking, you turn back to her; “is that the only reason why you started talking to me?”
She smiles brightly, cheeks tinting a light pink.
Shaking your head, you let out a light laugh, moving to grab the loaf of bread and handing it to her. Her eyes practically sparkle in delight when you do, smiling spreading across her whole face before she shoves the whole loaf in her mouth.
Through a stuffed mouth and tears welling in her eyes, Sasha clutches onto your arm.
“You’re my new favourite person!”
-
“Uh, um, Y/N!”
Glancing over your shoulder, you halt in your step at the sound of Eren’s voice. He’s rushing towards you, waving back at Armin whose stood before the boys sleeping chambers, before smiling brightly up at you, eyes hopeful.
“Hello,” you smile gently.
He comes to a rushed stop before you, slightly breathless, before peering up at you.
“I-I was wondering if I could ask you a question.”
You nod, “of course. What’s up?”
“Well, today, I saw that you were able to stand up right away with the omni gear. You were one of the first ones.” Hesitating only a moment, Eren clasps his hands before himself, gaze pleading. “Could you tell me how you did that?”
Your lips part, head tilting in confusion. “How I balanced on it?”
“Yes!”
“I, uh... I don’t know...” You pause, flushing faintly. “I kind of just did?”
He deflates and you frown as guilt floods you.
“You wanted to join the Survey Corps, yeah?” You recall yesterday.
He nods, shoulders falling; “I did.... I do, but I can’t unless I am able to balance on the omni gear. How can I be apart of the Survey Corps if I can’t even stand up while using it?”
Biting your lip, you swallow thickly. “I want to join the Survey Corps too,” you say after a moment, pulling his eyes on you as he blinks up at you in surprise. “Actually, I... I am also from Shiganshina, and was there the day... you know.”
His lips part; “you are?”
“Yeah,” you nod, a light smile falling on your lips. “I doubt you remember, but I was on the boat with you the day we left.”
His eyes narrow and his brows furrow, shaking his head.
“You also knocked me off my feet that same day. Before everything.”
His cheeks redden, warming up in embarrassment as you let out a light laugh, shaking your head.
“I can’t tell you how to balance on the omni gear, I wish I could... But, I want to join the Survey Corps too, just like you, in the hopes of killing every last titan that walks this earth... And all I can really say is, don’t give up.” Smiling lightly, you set your hand on his shoulder, squeezing it reassuringly. “I know you can do it.”
The blush never leaves his cheeks, but he smiles faintly at your words, nodding up at you.
The next day, while everyone’s watching, Eren is able to balance on the omni gear. And is one step closer to joining the Survey Corps, just like you.
I think TK and Carlos really will be such great fathers too!!! Carlos will be so soft and nice, that parent that pushes your hair off your forehead and kneels down to talk to you, and every time he looks at you all you can see is adoration, and TK would be so attentive and caring, the parent that plays pretend with you and will pick you up and spin you around when he’s the monster, running purely on the spite of his own father’s shitty parenting and his insurmountable love for his family
Carlos has this really incredible way of being gentle but honest, tough but fair. I'm thinking of the way he speaks to TK during the 1x03 police station scene; even when he's upset, he's not lashing out, he's not attacking. But then he's also an incredibly understanding person, willing to listen, willing to forgive, and also willing to give advice without being demanding or forceful. Those are all truly wonderful qualities for a parent to hold inside of themselves, and I think the way that Carlos approaches conflict and the way he shares his own insight is going to make him a truly incredible father. He makes people feel safe, he doesn't judge, and I could not imagine a child not feeling like they could come to him whenever they need him.
And I agree, I think TK would find parenting to be a little scary, just because of his own upbringing, but with Carlos I think they would create a very different household. He would know what he needed and wanted from his parents when he was younger, and he would do everything that he could to provide that for a child of his own. Their home would be full of love and support and so many fucking hugs it would just be the best place on earth. I really, really hope we get to see it before the show comes to an end.
Lucy: "I'm worried about Tim."
Nolan: "Why?"
Lucy: "He instigated a fight with a biker, wouldn't let me call for backup, could have gotten both of us killed. I think he's spinning out, trying to prove himself."
Nolan: "You think he came back too soon?"
Lucy: "Maybe. He got hit with a lot of personal stuff on top of it, too, and he's not handling it well."
Nolan: "Clearly you have to do something."
Lucy: "Yeah, but what? Tim is my T.O. I'm not gonna narc on him."
Nolan: "Then you're gonna have to talk to him."
Lucy: "Oh - It's not gonna go well."
Nolan: "What other choice do you have?"
