*Pauses writing my thesis to drop this here for y'all*
Word of warning kids, don't write a thesis on a subject whose sources are primarily in a language you are very bad at reading. It's not fun.
Anyway this is based on the yet unwritten (due to aforementioned thesis) third and final part of my heist au.

One thing that's starting to really get to me with the James Somerton stuff is a real strong undercurrent of disdain toward his fans. And yeah, I was one of them. A good scam artist isn't as easy to spot as y'all seem to think. You forget that you have all the information right now. Two days ago most of you had never heard of him and it would have kept going. Anyone can fall for a scam, nobody is immune. I would love to have had whatever resources you guys think we all should magically know about so I could have kept my sad $5 a month I really needed but thought was going to something worthwhile. Some of us can only devote so much energy into things and when you have no idea whatsoever that something is amiss of course you're not going to go digging for sources, why would you when everything is fine as far as you know? I really wish I could have seen the dissenting opinions on him but for many, many reasons that aren't just that the dissenting voices weren't widely circulating at the time all I had was the thought every now and again that "huh that doesn't seem right" and then go on with my day. And I think that happened to a lot of us. So yeah. Say what you gotta say about Somerton, he has more than earned it with the damage he's caused, but maybe don't shit so hard on his former fans because that is going to be you someday with something, it happens to everyone sooner or later.

There was another timeline.
One that, at the moment, only Clockwork and a single other person knew about. Both of whom has separately vowed to never let the timeline exist ever again.
That time was dark. It was bloody. The skies were painted red and the oceans boiled. The dead walked the Earth with a freedom not even the living could achieve. It was like the pits of hell had opened up and spit out the things even the Devil couldn’t bear to look at. It made the Dark Ages look like a middle school girl’s slumber party on Halloween.
It was the timeline where Danielle successfully replaced Danny. Both as Phantom, and as a Fenton.
She replaced Danny, under the orders of Vlad. And then she did more. She grew up, committing more and more crimes at Vlad’s command, gaining infamy and hate, eventually surpassing Vlad’s own reputation as a violent ghost.
Vlad knew she’d grown too powerful by the time she was biologically fourteen, the same age Danny had been when Danielle had shattered his core and eaten it. Vlad knew this, and thought the same trick would work again.
He tried to replace Danielle with another clone.
It didn’t work.
In that timeline, Danielle killed Vlad, absorbing his ghost half, just like Dan did. She became Eleanor, the Queen of Death, and ravaged the Earth for many years. Due to the power boost of consuming two other halfas, Eleanor was more powerful than any other variant of herself, Danny, or Dan that Clockwork could find. The only reason she did not expand to other dimensions, was because Danny was not around long enough to pass on the knowledge of time travel, and how to reach Clockwork’s tower.
It was a dark time. But Clockwork’s fears have been laid to rest, as the Dani of the current time had NOT replaced Danny. In fact, she’d been adopted into the Fenton family with open arms, and the Vlad of this world was less psychotic since he didn’t have a mental break. No Fentons died and caused Dan, and Amity has accepted the various Phantoms and other ghosts with open arms. It was the best possible course of events.
Nothing could go wrong, right? Eleanor was a secret Clockwork would take to his grave, if he ever got one. Not even the Observants knew about it.
Booster Gold, however, did not swear to keep the timeline a secret. He swore to prevent the timeline.
No matter what.

I'm seriously going mental over this Rus' and Russia distinction. The precise reason Peter the Great changed the name from Moscovy to the Russian Empire was to establish a direct connection to the rich history of Kyivan Rus' and assert the claim as the sole true descendant of the Rurik dynasty. His thought process went like this: to build a formidable empire, a strong historical foundation is needed. Moscow's ties to the Mongols were not as significant as the history of the Kyivan state, which prior to the Mongol invasion of 1240 was one of the most advanced in Europe and had numerous representatives in various ruling dynasties. Credit must be given; he succeeded in doing so. Even centuries later, I find myself reading, listening, and observing his actions in effect as Russians and Europeans, blindly following the centuries long lies, erase my country's and my people's history.

after reading the one hundred and one millionth inane quote about how Loki is such a pRiViLeGeD pRiNcE while Sylvie is just a poor baby who had no real childhood and had to learn to fend for herself from a young age, I feel the need to point out that even the ONE thing we know about Sylvie's past, the thing that's supposed to be her mAjOr tRaUmA and set her apart from him somehow, was literally stolen from Loki.
this is how Tom described Loki's experience post-suicide attempt back in the day while doing press for Avengers:
“I think he went, like with everything else, to a sort of… it was just like, the worst place imaginable. I think he went to all of the darkest recesses of the universe. I’m sure he had a brush with—several brushes with death. I think he ran into the shadiest characters you can find in the Nine Realms. I think he had to rely on his wits to protect himself. It was really, really, really unpleasant, I think. I don’t have any frame of reference for that, except for imagining what it might be like to be kidnapped by a terrorist or something and have to survive a very, very frightening and precarious existence. But whatever it was, it was important when Loki came back for The Avengers, that whatever compassion he had left was absolutely shriveled to a minimum because of the experience that he had. Harrowing, I think, and scarring for life—in a way that Thor and Odin and Frigga find very, very difficult to understand.” [source]
and now the show pretends that Loki teamed up with Thanos completely of his own will, even though Marvel had JUST confirmed that the sceptre was influencing him throughout Avengers, and they hand that traumatic backstory that was Loki's off to their precious OC.

@robstarblog @robstaryeah pinging yall just in case so that this doesn't get lost in oblivion (It'd be painful since I worked 5 hours non stop on it lol)
I think the most time was taken by the final panel and adding in the finishing touches since I pretty much had to change everything to the pixel level, quite literally lol (I'm serious, I did)
Welp I hope the results were worth it! And with that, another one gets a good ending!!
I kinda didn't add sleeves in the first two panels of the final page because it didn't look good and looked janky with how I was editing it so yeah please ignore that-

random hc but. crowley being a plague doctor in the 16th/17th century bc he's supposedly "tempting people into death" but he can never, ever bring himself to actually do that so he ends up soothing their pain as best as he can and comforting them in their last moments. one night, after he held a little girl's hand as she passed away, he sits down at the banks of the river thames, with his plague mask discarded on the dirt, and he starts out over the water with tears in his eyes, wondering what the fuck is actually the point? it's not the first time he's asked himself the question nor the first plague he witnessed but, here, now after personally witnessing hundreds of deaths every day, he really wonders what actually is the point of him? why does he exist and why should he keep existing. why does he get to live when so many others don't? how is that fair? how is any of it fair? that's how aziraphale finds him, as he just got back from an assignment somewhere or other and hears crowley is in town, so he discreetly looks for him and finds him there, sitting in the dirt, now with his head in his hands, his shoulders silently shaking and is obviously immediately worried but doesn't know how to comfort him or what's allowed so he just sits beside crowley and watches him try to pull himself together. aziraphale's heart breaks, he put what happened together from the mask and the robes and he obviously knows about the bubonic plague but was convinced it was hell's doing and couldn't have even imagined crowley was out there everyday, helping people under the guise of hurting them. is he surprised? no, of course not but it still hurts to see crowley like this. but he's afraid to cross their unspoken rules so he quietly waits crowley out. he watches the water and doesn't dare look at crowley as he lifts his head and takes a few shaky breaths in. after a few minutes of breathing, crowley croaks out "her name was mary" and nothing else, and aziraphale understands, god he understands. it's one of the things they never speak about after it happens but aziraphale can't forget the night he sat with crowley for hours, till the sun came up, as he cried about a death of one little girl. he holds it close to his chest and never, ever forgets.

Valentin de Boulogne (1591-1632) "The Fortune Teller" or "Fortune Teller with Soldiers" (c. 1620) Oil on canvas Tenebrism Located in the Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, Ohio, United States This painting is a play on the cheater being cheated and the corruption of Rome, with the man in the red hat stealing from the fortune teller's while a little girl steals his bag of coins. The cheater being cheated is a reference to deceit, which was a common trait of both men and women during the early 17th century in Rome. It was common to steal things such as the items shown in the painting. Rome was a very dangerous place with drunkards, sword/knife fights, and murder throughout the city.

Carte de visite of a roguishly handsome pair of brigands menacing a fortu—I mean, unfortunate—gentleman, c. 1870s. We must be grateful to whichever previous owner has outlined the crouching brigand's dagger in pen, for without this clarification the casual viewer might be in danger of misreading just what that brigand’s hand is doing there. 😏

"oh barbie was the first woman dol, it was only babies before her"
crepereia tryphaena didn't die for this kind of slander
you are so right
crepereia tryphaena (2nd or 3rd century CE) did not die at the age of 20 and get buried with her clearly beloved ivory lady doll for this

(this doll had fucking JEWELRY. and G*rwig says Barbie was the first fashion doll? give me a break)
honestly, most of the Firsts or Onlys people want to attribute to Barbie aren't real.
"but she was the first fashion doll meant for play, not just showing off clothing!"
there's actually less evidence of dolls meant only for displaying new fashions in history than dolls intended for children to play with AND to incidentally show their mothers and older sisters the latest styles. even so-called "milliners' models" of the late 18th-early 19th century are now believed to have been primarily toys
"but she was the first one with a [cis] woman's body!"
see above. the ancient Roman doll has breasts. she was not the last doll with breasts before Barbie- and lots of the intervening lady dolls weren't flat due to prudishness as many suppose, but because the same bodies were often used for male dolls. saves money, work, and time to just bang out a bunch of gender-neutral stuffed or carved bodies and let the clothes and hair determine the gender. Creatable World isn't new, either
the reson for Barbie's massive success wasn't that she was the First Fashion Doll in a sea of baby dolls. it's that she filled a very specific niche that was empty when she came along: a small, relatively affordable fashion doll that gave a 3-D paper doll experience. (Everyone likes to talk about Barbie's roots with the Bild Lilli doll; nobody brings up that Ruth Handler was equally inspired by her daughter's movie star paper dolls.)
lady dolls WERE scarce when Barbie came out, and she DID face pushback for her adult, somewhat sexy look. That's true. But she was not unique in history- she was just the right idea, in the right place, at the right time
