i think part of the problem with hazel as a character is the fact that rr very clearly favours nico over her, despite her being more of a main character. this causes a bit of an issue bc outside of backstory, she never gets fully developed as a character and rr is relying on the fans going "oh yeah she's nicos half sister" and assigning her traits from that, as well as comparing her to bianca

#this is the problem really w a lot of the characters introduced in hoo #they just straight up arent given the time to develop before being thrust into action #so the characters who rr likes more are more fleshed out #case in point: leo has far more canon personality than the other two from the lost trio #but even thats nothing compared to annabeth #just bc the entirety of hoo felt very rushed #also w rr letting the fandom making assumptions about hazel based on nico #i think he basically did the opposite w jason and thalia #like hazel is introduced at the same time that she is w nico #whereas (although very minimal) jason has time to develop before being in the same scene as thalia #so rr here is relying on a stark constrast between the two to fill in the gaps on jasons personality #also in the case of nico i genuinely believe he was originally meant to be a really minor character #i mean HE IS a side character at the end of the day #but the fandom latched onto him so rr had no choice but to prioritise him over other characters #like i straight up think the original plan was for nico not to be seen again after botl #anyway ill shut up now ive gone really off topic #thank fuck for tags

god I'm so fucking furious at the removal of Te Reo Māori names from organisations around Aotearoa. it's a complete non-issue, every organisation has the English name directly underneath the Māori name. I have never once as an English speaker been unable to understand what an organisation is for. Winston Peters, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is literally Māori himself, said “Te Papa is a historic name but tell me this waka kotahi, how many boats have you seen going down the road?”. Waka does not just mean canoe. it means vessel, and waka kotahi (the transport agency of Aotearoa) explains this VERY SIMPLY on their official website. waka kotahi means to travel together as one. Can you see how fucking upsetting this is. A Māori person in power who is in agreement about banning his own language, being so cocky about something that he does not even understand due to the suppression of the language of his people. It makes me sick. I've seen reports from Māori people all over Aotearoa speaking out about how upset and furious they are, how decades of progress have been undone in the fight to restore the rights of their people who have for so long been oppressed and have suffered the effects of colonisation. Please share this if you can, I hate knowing how few people will hear about this, I know there is so much injustice in the world right now and it is so exhausting, I know. I love you all, keep it up.

Somebody mentioned in a tag on one of my posts the scene where Marco Animorphs is showering after antmageddon and he finds an ant stuck to his hip by the pincers where it presumably was trying to bite him in half when he was an ant and then it died from him becoming very big very fast and I feel like that scene, and the scene where Cassie finds a sliver of a sentient person’s flesh between her teeth while she’s flossing and then flosses until her gums bleed, really deserve recognition in the literary canon. Applegate deserves an award. There should be a TV Trope named after whatever the fuck that is. Like fridge horror but diegetic. Bathroom horror. Your bedtime bathroom routine as an opportunity for personal confrontation with the violent detritus of the dead which lingers in and on your body even after you have ostensibly stripped yourself of weapons and healed over all your wounds.
