UNRELIABLE NARRATORS; SEMI FINALS

*NOTE; propaganda is out of order due to the post length!

Eugenides Propaganda:

the entire plot hinges on a detail he lets the reader (and every other character) assume is true. I don't want to spoil it because it's a really fun reveal but he is lying from the first second he appears on the page and you can't trust him to tell the full truth about ANYTHING related to himself and his goals. he mostly does it to keep his advantage and not have other characters be suspicious of him but it's just so fun when you realise he's been lying the whole time

Kim Dokja Propaganda:

I haven't read orv but he's fucking gotta be from what I've osmosised

He tries to remove his emotions out of the narrative soooo much, literally the most repressed guy ever. Okay so for context orv is about how this guy, Kim Dokja, has been the only reader of an obscure post-apocalyptic webnovel for years and the novel suddenly becomes reality. And at first you'll probably get the weird impression that his behavior is pretty strange for, you know, a literal apocalypse happening in his world - like yes, he is concerned with survival but he doesn't seem all that scared and he kinda treats it like a video game where he has to grind to make himself stronger and he also treats his companions like a party in an rpg. Then there's also the way he approaches the protagonist of the webnovel, from the start he just kind of describes him as a ruthless psychopath and jerk that is unfortunately a pretty useful ally. And also there's the fact that he carefully omits any mention of his past and when somebody asks if he's worried about his family when the apocalypse starts he just kinda... brushes it off? Anyway so yeah, this bastard is definitely traumatized, although I don't know how much of spoiler territory that would be, considering the fact that literally when he first reveals his trauma he's also unreliable about it. And turns out he does indeed, care A LOT about this world and the people around him. Because well, he kinda didn't care to mention that this webnovel that has become reality was like... literally his whole world before it literally became his whole world. Like, it was the only thing keeping him going for 10+ years and the protagonist that he likes to call a stupid jerk was his comfort character who he pretended to be when he felt like he couldn't handle something in his life by being himself. The protagonist is also canonically the person he loves the most according to a prophecy and he literally can't fathom the thought of him dying, even the timeline versions of him that directly oppose him. And I haven't even mentioned the Fourth Wall yet but I feel like this propaganda is a little long already

misreading the intentions of his companion (yoo joonghyuk) so many time.

Rest of Propaganda under cut!

he is the worst like actually. he starts the story talking about how normal and average he is. he is not. he is constantly mischaracterizing his friends and he's so good at lying to the readers that you don't even realize it at first. almost every single time he cries we have to be told by other characters because he never says it himself. there is literally a scene where his narration says "i wasn't crying" and then the in-universe entity that narrates the actions of people (orv is really weird and meta) says that he was, in fact, crying. honestly genuinely anything he says about himself (or doesn't say) cannot be trusted. he is just so frustrating. he drives me mad. i love him dearly. but he drives me so mad.

Dictionary definition of unreliable narrator. Does not tell the reader anything and then things happen and he's like oh yeah btw there was also this and this earlier but i just didn't feel like mentioning it. There's even a thing called the "Fourth Wall" that is able to see through kdj's bs so occasionally you get gems like,

Kim Dokja: I didn't cry

The Fourth Wall: [Kim Dokja was crying]

Imagine being so unreliable as a narrator you need a more powerful narrator to call out the actual narrator.

This goes into spoiler territory, but; Kim Dokja is in possession of a skill called the Fourth Wall, which on the surface seems like it appears because he read the book that reverse-isekai’d into his own. However, as the story goes on it becomes clear that it’s pretty much a souped up version of his pre-existing dissociation. You cannot trust him to be honest about his feelings, his past traumas or his feelings about his past traumas, not to mention his tendency to just outright omit information that only gets revealed later on either when it becomes relevant or when an outsider POV reveals what’s actually happening.

Exhibit A: he says (in 1st person POV) that he’s not crying. The Fourth Wall immediately contradicts this (as it is literally words of the novel) by saying (in 3rd person POV) ‘Kim Dokja was crying’.

Exhibit B: Fails to mention entire actions when it shows him emotionally honest even in the slightest; we had to read from another character entirely when Kim Dokja was being physically affectionate with his companion. It’s so bad that there’s this entire paragraph about Kim Dokja describing himself hiding his eyes in his hands in jerky, weirdly specific detail and just AVOIDING EVERY WORD THAT MIGHT SHOW HE’S CRYING. The brilliance of ORV is that when you re-read the entire thing you get hints that ‘yes, this WAS hinted at the entire time’ but you have to dig it out of Kim Dokja’s repressed, depressed self-hating internal dialogue with your own two hands.

i am a simple man (not a man). i see a tumblr text post with the words “unreliable narrator in it”. i read nothing else. i reblog & tag #kim dokja okay but in all seriousness i’m just going with the musty basic example: so there’s this moment where he sacrifices himself to save this guy. as he lays on the ground bleeding out, he says “hey, you don’t like me, right? you should kill me to get some money” the guy says “no kim dokja i cant do that (going through the five stages of grief except there’s only one and it’s anger)” the constellations (twitch viewers irl) are like omg he (the guy) doesn’t want to kill his companion (kim dokja) and shower him (the guy) with money kim dokja: oh, he’s not killing me for the money. smart!

as i quote a brilliant youtube video (all of omniscient reader’s viewpoint in 6 minutes) “yoo joonghyuk sees kim dokja as a c_____”

Hides his true feelings, tells the readers what he thinks is convenient for the plot and that his own personal feelings don’t matter or are not so significant. Has unreliable thoughts abt his companion and is a liar. And is also an omniscient reader.

Kim Dokja always perceived his companions in this like nonchalant way like “oh yeah we get along but really we’re just fighting to survive (apocalypse setting) it doesn’t run that deep” when they all do genuinely care for him and he does in turn. He just, doesn’t think of it as an equal relationship? Dokja’ll sacrifice a lot for them but will get seriously flabbergasted if they do the same thing, so fricking problematic. Not to mention Yoo Joonghyuk, his “Life and Death Companion” (read: husband). Kim Dokja always seems to think that Joonghyuk has it out for him, which is kinda true, but he is literally blind to the fact that he’s attached to him. Like, it’s so obvious??? Also they have hella sexual tension but that’s another thing entirely

se get some many pov changes where kdj in his pov just assumed things based on what he knew the characters would do. however because of his interference the characters have changed and he wouldn’t know that if it hit him in the face

He's an unreliable narrator because he lies to himself and thus the audience. He literally rewrote his own childhood core memory. If someone says, "this guy is my friend!" He will go through so many hoola hoops in his mind just to rationalize it. Because he fundamentally believe that no one could love him and even if they did they couldn't know him and he's just gonna hurt them. He cries sometimes in canon but a lot of those times it's not even mentioned as crying he's that unreliable of a narrator. No joke, one time this guys he has a gay thing with called him his "companion" to someone who had just killed him (long story) and this bitch thought "oh wow he's doing it for the coins (another long story) he's so smart i wish I'd thought to that. He's terrible. He literally has an exchange with something called the Fourth Wall (an even longer story) where it said "you're crying" and he said "no I'm not" but he was crying. He makes me insane because the reader is supposed to project onto him. He made me see how much of an unreliable narrator I WAS. ORV is just like that tho.

Temperament: They are protective, nurturing though also fierce and ruthless when the pack is concerned. They proved to be quite welcoming but cautiously observant at the same time.

They fathered/mothered the four pups of the pack.

Wolf form: Small, with a bright ginger long fur.

Kesha Colnan - the Beta

Gender: selectable M, F or NB

Age: 28

Appearance: they have fair skin, chin-length straight dark hair they dye white at the tips (they often keep them out of the way with hair pliers), blue eyes and a lean built.

They can often be seen wearing protective amulets and protective temporary tattoos.

Temperament: Kesha is often anxious, hovering over their packmates to be sure of their safety or just scared something bad is going to happen.

They cherish their comfort zone, bit they would do anything for the Alpha. They harbor a love for card games, especially complex RPGs.

Wolf form: medium sized, with short grey fur and white paws/legs.

Indigo Bellaria - the Delta

Gender: selectable M or F

Age: 32

Appearance: Indigo is a crossdresser, wearing only feminine clothes if M or masculine one if F.

They are around 1.84 m tall, with a beige complexion, wavy black hair shaved on the sides and dark brown eyes. They have a muscular built.

Temperament: they have a spicy attitude, playful with the pups and a bit confrontational with everyone else (often just for show). They are a loner and enjoy their time with themselves, though they'd miss the pack terribly if they were separated.

Despite what they might want others to believe, they have a major need to provide for them in any way, with gifts, food or comfort.

Wolf form: big and powerful, with a curly spotted black and white fur (like a cow, ironically)

So. There's a NieR gacha. I've talked about it now and again on here.

In contrast to other games in the NieR series, which were in narrative structure reasonably traditional action-RPGs, following a small group of characters... NieR: Re[in]carnation is something a bit more like an anthology of short stories, all eventually tied together in an elaborate frame.

Over the course of the story, you are led to explore a vast collection of memories inside something called the Cage, a huge Ico-like stone structure full of gorgeous, moody environments...

...intermittently diving into the most dramatic moments of an impressively varied collection of characters, each portrayed in a cutout theatre style. They're a diverse bunch! Robot cowboys. Mountain climbers. AIs both kind and ruthless. Dark wizard yuri. Arabian Nights pastiche. Chuuni soldier boys. Elegant assassins, living weapons, disposable clones. Some are fantasy, some science fiction; some weave together and others sit apart.

And as you play further, you can unlock further stories, in various forms. All sorts of illustrations, all sorts of prose. The framing stories - the story of the girl Fio and the monster Levania who stole her body, the story of the violently estranged siblings Yuzuki and Hina, the story of the mysterious nature of the Cage, of its collapse, and the desperate bid to escape - all are very rich. The final chapters, where the characters are all finally brought together, are fantastic.

Not to mention - everything is voice acted, and generally very well (in Japanese at any rate, the English is more of a mixed bag). All is accompanied by a huge amount of gorgeous music by Keiichi Okabe et al., wrapping you in that mysterious, layered atmosphere. The UI design is magnificent. On an aesthetic level at least, there is a great deal to recommend here.

However.

As a game, NieR Reincarnation sadly left a lot to be desired. The gameplay is intensely repetitive, the strategy more to do with unlocking the right characters and grinding to level them up. Understandably, a lot of people bounced off it.

And now it's coming to an end.

In just a couple of days, the final chapter of NieR Reincarnation will be released. A month later, the game servers will be shut down for good! Perhaps, years in the future, they will release some kind of remake - but we can't count on it.

But don't imagine you can just jump in and experience it all right now. A great deal of material - the Dark Memories, the Recollections of Dusk - is gated behind a considerable investment of time and a strong team. There's a lot of events you'll simply have missed.

However... I have, perhaps unwisely, sunk the time into unlocking most of what can be unlocked in this game. I think it would be a shame not to get to experience them, and I love getting to share NieR games. These stories take some wild turns, and I think it would be a blast to watch together.

So here's the plan! Starting this weekend, and going on for as long as necessary over the next week, I'll be streaming the entire story of NieR Reincarnation on my twitch. Main story, character stories, EX stories: the whole lot, arranged for narrative flow. All the fun spicy parts and none of the grind, and you get to enjoy it with friends.

If you've been here for previous NieR game streams... well, I hope you had as great a time as I did. I fucking love NieR. For the other games, I would dig into the side material, read out fan translations of the stories, and do everything I can to give you the complete experience of the game. Here, there's not so much in the way of side material, but the game contains a lot on its own - and I want to share it all, the gut-punch parts and the goofy ones alike, because it all adds up.

Think of it kinda like an Animation Night if you want! An anthology series to enjoy together, just like the Animator Expo.

The first stream will begin on Saturday, 6pm UK time. I'll be making recordings and writing a guide to the story of the game too - but there's something special about watching something together, so I'd really love to see you there ^^

All these characters are from an RPG campaign called; Gehenna's Gates, set in the world of Vampire The Masquerade. Feel free to ask any questions!

Danya Vetranov/Rudolf the Vile/Rudanya:

Rudolf spent his human life as a soldier, a cruel, ruthless and apathetic being. His dark nature led him to be singled out for a cruel transformation into a vile vampire.

The callous deeds of his human past haunted him like a burden, while fate seemed to wish to punish him for every life he had taken. Isolated and abused, he became known as a ruthless hitman, bending his tormented soul to a life marked by despair and a death wish.

Danya grew up stealing and reading cards to survive on the streets of Kiev. An orphan who accepted a Ravnos' offer to join his circus and become a fortune teller. The transformation gave her a new family and a place in the world that she had been denied, ending a life of poverty and marginalization.

Their paths crossed in London, initially marked by clashes and mutual contempt. Their opposing personalities, with Rudolf stern and tormented and Danya rebellious and audacious, generated friction. However, the obligation to cooperate revealed unexpected sides in both: Rudolf let himself be captivated by Danya's intuition and heart. Over time, a protective and loving bond grew between them, challenging their natures and prejudices.

After defeating the Prince of London, and Danya's former partner, Anselm Godwyn, she finally decided to give Rudolf a chance. Despite Rudolf's deep-seated uncertainties and dark past, which had hurt her, Danya let go of her reserve, allowing love to blossom. From that moment, their love became an anchor, a light in a world of vampires lacking empathy.

Danya became the light that lifted Rudolf from his inner shadows, as he gave his all to her with unconditional passion. But the road to happiness was winding. Rudolf's past kept coming back to haunt them, and Danya's choice to keep her humanity brought her into conflict with a world of darkness and ambiguity.

Something I've been working on for a while now, time to introduce my Super Mario RPG OCs 🩷!

Waring, cringe is ahead /pos.

Erbin !

Erbin is the rightful son to Culex, yes THAT Culex! After being born, Culex thought it best to let Smithy take care of lil Erbin; which means that Erbin is part of the Smithy Gang. Though, much later into his life after Smithy was defeated, he stole the crown off Smithy's body and fled into Mario's world.

He's a bastard of a man! He's a very cocky and confident lad with many unique talents; one of which is the ability to be the most flirtatious man to exist! He's also the lover of Geno (although at first it's a very bumpy relationship, they learn to love one another very affectionately as time goes on.)

Some basic info on him!

Pronouns - He/Him.

Age - 30.

Birthday - October 31st.

Sexuality - Homosexual !

Height - 9 ft tall. (He's a big boi)

Asciarotto !

Asciarotto was once a lot more different in terms of design and even had a different name; though she's been through a massive redesign and everything. Asciarotto is a Smithy creation, based on throwing axes; she's also designed much like how Cloaker and Domino were, like performers. They are snake charmers and she is a trapeze performer.

She's very loyal to Smithy and even a bit of a maniac to those who disrespect him or even break simple rules; she's like that type of kid who would remind the teacher about giving out homework.

Age - 48.

Birthday - February 2nd.

Sexuality - Undecided right now.

Height - 5'2.

Amaruka !

Ah, Amaruka, this wonderful bundle of joy is a servant to Culex; specifically and much like someone else's OC, they are the personification of Culex's crystals, all of them. They are quite powerful, could be more powerful than Culex themself if they knew how to control their powers that is. They are going under a tad bit of a redesign, but for now they've got a very alien like design compared to most Mario based OCs, that's because well; anyone related to Culex in anyway isn't technically from the Mario world. (Does that technically make Amaruka and Erbin siblings? That's strange.)

Amaruka is a playful, extremely outgoing bundle of happiness. Though of course, not every part of them is sunshine and rainbows, for they've been known to be very envious of those who gain the attention of Culex; they consider him to be a God in their eyes, well technically he is a God, but Amaruka wants nothing more than to gain the admiration from Culex.

Height - 7'2. (tall babey)

Lilona !

Lilona, aka the beast. Uh, why does she get that name? Easy, she was a creature created by Culex and her purpose is to serve as some sort of guard dog to him and his kind. She is unable to speak and she's cold to the touch, basically her skin feels like ice. Her personality is just as cold as her, as she doesn't take no for an answer and usually decides to kill someone as a warning sign. She's a ruthless killer creature of sorts.

As I said, she's not someone who has a good side; the only people she actually tolerates is Mario and co, Culex and Amaruka.

The Collector !

The Collector is an unknown type of woman, she's a collector of all things interesting! Relics, books, weapons, creatures, bugs, etc! She lives in Rose Town and lives a secretive life, not many know of her existence, she once had a real name but those who knew here kept calling her The Collector so often that she had forgotten her own name and now goes by that.

The Collector is a crazy woman, obsessive and a hoarder! If she wants something, she'll get it. She's talented in magic thanks to her extensive knowledge of basically everything.

Age - 29.

Birthday - December 1st.

Sexuality - Lesbian.

Height - 6'1.

Onas !

Onas, aka the God of Time. This fella is actually a part of a fan species I'm making for SMRPG, they are called: Owl Deities. (And side note, if you say he looks like Stolas from Helluva Boss I will fucking block you.) Ahem anyways, Onas is a very interesting character. He is *very* lore heavy. I'll give a gist of his story though; his kingdom is deep within the Forest Maze and any royal blood born Owl Deity is able to learn time manipulation magic. Onas learned it from a very young age, which worried his mother; she decided to lock him away because she knew what kind of person he would become with those powers; after years of being in prison, he found a way to break out and take the throne from his mother (as to if she is or is not alive, is kinda a spoiler for my story so uh yeah lmao.) He's been ruling ever since and has even made many gambles with Culex, KNOWING he'd lose; it's all just fun for him. It's why he doesn't have his wings, they now belong to Culex and it's why he's got a glass arm, it's now one of Culex's trophies. Gods do some silly things when bored.

Onas is a very manipulative, cunning, scheming bastard. He'll do just about anything to get his way, he's very persistent and persuasive with his words, oh and don't worry, he also enjoys to torture his captives uh..just ask Bowyer smiles. :)

Tiburón !

Originally Tiburón started out as just an idea for an au of "what if Johnny was in the Smithy Gang." Then he just kinda became his own character after a while, then with the help of @jonathancjones and their lovely Bandana Blue OC, Roha; he became a lot more complex and developed, so shout outs to them. Tiburón is a creation built for killing, and underwater combat; Smithy built him due to Yaridovich's complaints about Seaside Town and his enemies territory being surrounded by water. He's a menace to anyone (except Roha lol) and anything, and is not someone you wanna mess with.

Tiburón is, by far the most cruel, heartless and cold of the Smithy Gang.

Height - 14'5 (he's fuckin massive help he could kill me.)

Kairy !

Kairy is a very underdeveloped character, but that's okay I'll still put her here. Kairy is a wooden doll, or an attempt at one from a novice woodworker, though just like Geno; she wasn't always a sentient doll. A once lost spirit from the Sunken Ship took control of this doll, now using its body as its own. Also yes she knows Johnny, she's acquaintances with him.

Kairy is a very curious and calm lass, she tends to be cautious about things and doesn't travel far, she gets home sick easily.

Galileo !

Galileo, aka the God of Science. Unlike the other Gods, he is human, the only human God there is. Believe it or not, he actually lives in Barrel Volcano and is very knowledgeable about everything; he's actually someone who despises the Gods and hates them due to most of them being pro-magic, he hates magic. Then, why is he a God himself if he hates them so much? Easy, he was manipulated into becoming a God by Onas.

Galileo is a very smart and confident individual, he's also a very tired man; staying up day and night to get his work done, since he is a scientist.

Okiokioki sooo. I will say w Attilio this time- he's quite worldly and had he more energy he would probably have a LOT of hobbies. The ones he has are collecting related.

However he has a strong fondness for complex board games (if he lived in modern days he woulf be a massive board game & tabletop rpg geek tbh). He loves learning the rules and learning how to accomplish things within those rules, and at points how to stretch them and bend them without breaking them.

However a weird thing of his is that he LOVES letting others win. Not always, and he provides a challenge every time to make it satisfying. And of course sometimes he looses without meaning to (hes a little more annoyed about these times tbh! If you know him well you can learn to pick up on when he lost on purpose and when not, from rly subtle cues in his mannerisms). This is simply because he just likes seeing people exited & feeling good about themselves.

As for discovery- it was simpler when he himself was young. He played them with his mother, tutors, etc- anyone who gave him the time.

However when growing older, Attilio most likely kind of forgot his beloved games for a while? Just being busy, mostly.

But!! Im gonna focus on the REdiscovery of a hobby. Bc i think it came back via his daughters! I think a tutor or caretaker taught them some simple game and they asked him to play one day, and after that it's become an almost daily pasttime for them. After dinner games / midday games or smth?

(Additionally- the secretary and attilio do also play together. They learned it for Attilio, and are one of the only people who have learned that he has a weird thing for loosing on purpose. They've turned this into a game together- both of them trying to fuck up the game as a sign of affection.)

(This does not happen w Attilios daughters btw theyre absolutely ruthless lol)

There's something so great about Court of Owls!Tim and Janet idea cause it could go anyway.

It could go Tim having this absent but loving mother he loved dying tragically only to find out that not only is she still alive but she's also evil,

You can have Janet who chose her son over the Owls over and over again until she paid for it not without bringing a big part of it down with her though,

You can have a Tim who was secretly an Owl all along and keeping an eye on the Bats for them,

You can have a Tim who was being groomed into being a future member of Owls by the mother he should have been able to trust and now refuses to let anyone close,

You can have two people who love each other but are at odds because they'll do anything for their families they choose-Bats or Owls,

You can have a Tim who started as an Owl and now doing everything he can to fix their and his mistakes and gain trust of people he grew to care and a Janet who is amused by her son's teenage rebellion

You can have two equally ruthless people who will stop at nothing to destroy each other even if it means burning down the entire city of Gotham in their war

You can have a Janet who is very good at keeping her work and personal life separate

And personally my favourite- the comedy of two passive aggressive enemies pretending to be a Normal civilian family (Janet: Oh Timmy :) it appears your grades are in risk of slipping again :) you should probably stop with those useless rpgs of yours :) wouldnt want to risk your life and future sweetie :) :) :) :). Tim: Well mother :) i for one think it's because of certain barn owls hooting all night :) kept me up all night :) dont worry i will be getting rid of them :) :) :) :). Exactly! I honestly just think Janet has amazing potential when she's evil or morally ambiguous(er).

I will admit I love villain!Tim but I also like the idea of Janet faking her death to take the helm of the Court while subtly keeping an eye on Tim. Then she tried to isolate him from the Bats and slowly corrupt him until she has him join the Court willingly.

If Bernard is a Court member too and she sees the pull between them...well what loving mother would ever stand in the way of true love (when it can serve various ends)?

I did write a fic where Janet was part of the Court. But she was already dead. Ah fun times.
