six of crows + “you can never go home“

originally i was going to write this in the tags of this post, but i hit tag limit before i even got halfway through. so i’m making it its own post.

the idea of “you can never go home” is core to each of the six crows which is why it’s such a jewish story. if you don’t want to read through my long rants, here’s the short version:

kanej can never go home because the children who belonged in their homes are dead.

jesper can never go home because to him, home represents shame. wylan does go home, but his homecoming is born from being set adrift much the same way as the other crows are.

helnik can never go home because their loyalty to their homes has wavered, and they can never come back from that.

ok rant time. first: kaz. kaz can never go back to his original home outside of lij because the boy who belongs there is kaz rietveld, and kaz rietveld is dead. maybe you could call ketterdam his new home - he probably would - but that’s even more tragic in a way, isn’t it? he’s so tied down to ketterdam. he’s unable to return to one home and unable to leave the other. (shameless self promotion time: my wip the sower explores this; it probably won’t be published on ao3 for a long while but if you’re interested to know what that’s about and get progress updates + teasers you can check out my fanfiction sideblog @tealquills, everything related to that wip should be under the tag “the sower”.)

now inej. my favorite diaspora girl. inej can never go home because of who she’s become - “a suli girl who had become a killer”. she can’t unbecome the dangerous girl, the girl with claws who names knives after saints. she can’t unbecome the wraith. and the wraith doesn’t belong in the suli caravans. the girl who did “died in the hold of a slaver ship”. she loves her family deeply and wants to be with them and still be loved by them, but she cannot go back home with them. the wraith can’t settle, especially because she always seeks justice. she’s no longer complacent, and she could not bear complacency. she feels purpose and drive to save others from what she endured at the menagerie. between these two things, is it any wonder she takes to the sea?

jesper can’t go home because his home is too entwined with feelings of boredom and shame. after aditi’s death, the monotony of farm life became unbearable. the shame and guilt associated with his durast abilities became unbearable. most of all, the grief became unbearable. it was no longer viable for him to live in novyi zem, at home with his father who loved him so much and failed him so profoundly. and so he went to kerch, and there was no going back.

for wylan, too, home is a place entwined with shame. jan van eck made him feel ashamed for his disability, building up intense feelings of worthlessness and guilt. wylan’s story is interesting in that he does go home, quite literally. he ends up living in van eck’s manor with jesper. in this way, he’s not really living a “you can never go home” story arc the same way as the other crows. but that idea is still core to his character, because for awhile, it was true. after the attempted murder on the boat, wylan had no home. he was set adrift in the same way kaz was after using jordie’s corpse as a raft, in the same way inej was after her time in the menagerie, in the same way jesper was after aditi’s death. wylan can only find his way home again after he experienced what it was to be without a home, and he will always carry that with him.

nina can’t go home because she’s realized she wants a life beyond that of a soldier, and ravka will never give her that. through matthias, she learns to aspire to peace and betterment rather than being a cog in the machine. she loves her country, but she can never quite be loyal to it in the same way again. the world but specifically ravka and fjerda will never let her and matthias be more than grisha and drüskelle, and she can’t accept that. even in king of scars and rule of wolves when she’s working for the ravkan government again, she can’t stay long. she goes to fjerda, and while she’s there, she takes up matthias’s mission. she starts building bridges. she tries to end the war. she falls in love again.

and finally, matthias. oh, my tragic boy. matthias can never go home because... well. you know. after coming to love nina, he can never be truly loyal to fjerda again, but it’s still his country. he spends all of six of crows and crooked kingdom trying to find a way to reconcile the truly awful parts of the country he calls home with everything that he believes makes it worth saving. he wants to go home so badly in a way that even inej can’t quite match. but in the end, he can’t go home because his wants are not enough. because one man’s personal journey cannot save an entire nation. because his love redeems him, but it can’t redeem fjerda.

If it's okay, Gray and Laxus headcanons? I saw these little clips of them from the fairy tail video game and it was so funny and endearing to me

Another shameless self-plug cuz this is about to be my most-read fic.

Also there is no art of Gray and Laxus even near each other because search engines only ever generate content for other ships when I try to search them. And there's exactly 5 posts in the #graxus tag. So here, have this image I stole from CBR.

These two kind of end up being the power couple of Fairy Tail? Nobody expected it but their relationship is much less dramatic and more stable than most.

These two are both loyal lovers whose love language is favors and acts of service. They have to do relatively little speaking in order to understand each other and their affections.

Laxus has so much pride in Gray. Back in the Battle of Fairy Tail, he was calling the guy a loser. By the time Gray stalked off to go kill Mard Geer, Laxus was like "I can't not date him".

They can commonly be found touching each other in small ways--arms around shoulders, usually, but also heads on shoulders or in laps, or even just holding hands occasionally. The casual PDA isn't too dramatic, but it's consistent.

This is because of the way their magics interact. Laxus radiates his magic, which feels very electric and tingly if he isn't restraining it, while Gray radiates cold, molecules slowing down around him. The two end up balancing each other out and when they touch, they provide each other a strange sense of equilibrium and contentment.

"I always thought your necklace was kind of cool." "I always thought your scar was hot."

The two are both punk-adjacent and enjoy a lot of the same hobbies and aesthetics, with Gray leaning slightly more emo and Laxus leaning slightly more rock. Their dates are surprisingly fun.

Gray is always wearing Laxus' clothes. Everybody knows what it means and he doesn't deny it--except that he also wears Laxus' clothes just because he can. Do they fit? No. Is he still able to make them look halfass decent on him? Yes.

There is something very magical when Laxus kisses Gray that makes the latter just want to stick to him like glue and do it forever. Likewise, when Gray kisses him, Laxus can't help but smile.

These two literally make the front page of fashion magazines when modeling together, they just have insane photogenic qualities.

"Bro" and "babe" are interchangeable, they both answer to either.

Laxus actually proposes after a few years together. He thought about a diamond ring hidden in an ice box but didn't want Gray to swallow it trying to eat the ice.

You didn't ask for them but I'm still gonna provide u the ns/fw headcanons just cuz i might not get another chance:

NS/FW:

Gray, unlike a lot of people Laxus is shipped with, doesn't like sex rough or super-energetic. To him it's more about intimacy and exploring the other's body, and Laxus is very receptive to this kind of sex. They're slow, gentle, and relatively quiet.

Gray is not actually an exhibitionist, despite his unconscious stripping. He will become one, though, if the opportunity arises and he's got a desire to give head. Gray is fantastic at oral sex and loves doing it whenever he can, so Laxus has successfully swayed him into ducking into an alley for a quickie or even a blowjob in the back of a taxi. Gray is way more embarrassed about it than Laxus is, but is he going to pass on it? No.

I tend to fall into hyper fixations with things and write only about what I'm into at that moment so currently Ted Lasso, but I have written for several other things, Outer Banks, Derry Girls and the Umbrella Academy being the biggest ones

Between Space - The Umbrella Academy It was based on a prompt of what if Five is the cause of the apocalypse and him basically erasing his existence to save everyone else

Hmm I mean generally I try to wrap things up nice and neat with a big bow so they mostly have happy endings. Maybe we'll just say In the middle of the night because its a fluffy one shot where Jamie gets a cuddle and fun fact its also a fanfic of a fanfic kudos to @asteria-argo who's brilliant fic Counting Sheep inspired it

Not really, I don't have a massive audience so my comments are usually very lovely

I don't! Nothing again it just not something I can see myself writing, but hey never say never!

I don't start things and leave them unfinished, it would really stress me out to do that lol its why I write a lot of one shots

CONCENTRATING! Oh my gosh! If I could actually fucking concentrate guys I would be churning out novel length fics like you wouldn't believe! I'm writing in my head all day long but the second I sit down to physically write I cannot focus for the life of me

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I am a native English speaker and its my only language as much as I would love to learn another one, so except for maybe one or two words to keep a character IN character for which I would use google, then I'd steer clear.

ooooh is it shameless self promo to say the one I'm currently writing is probably my favourite? Its unpublished as of yet but its for Ted Lasso and its called We're all waving flags and yeah I'm finding the writing process for it very fun and cathartic

I use this name to separate myself from the persona I have created to self-ship, only because I also use the same name online. So to lessen confusion and that I know who you are talking to; she, my sona, is Kai. I, the writer and mod, am Yuzu. There might be times I might refer myself as Kai as it is also the name my friends call me by but if you have any criticisms regarding me, the writer, please address me as Yuzu so that I know that you are referring to me and not my self-shipping sona.

Takeomi sometimes wonders how he could pull someone like you, someone so warm.

He’s a grumpy old man, while you’re a nice young girl.

He sighs for the nth time, still lost in his thoughts, in fact he doesn’t notice your voice calling him a few times.

“-mi, Omi? Omi are you listening?”

“Sorry princess, I wasn’t listening. What were you saying?”

You pout a little, but quickly return to your little monologue about the latest book you read.

“As I was saying, I can’t believe Lenù still believes that Nino Sarratore can love her, it’s absurd! That man is terrible, I want to punch him!!”

He hums and sometimes says his opinion when you ask him, but for the most part you’re talking.

You two are heading hand in hand towards the library, since you wanted to spend money on new mangas and books.

Your smaller hand is interviewed with his bigger one. He likes your hands, they’re so soft and warm, unlike his that are full of scars and calloused.

“Omi what are you thinking? You’re not paying attention to your adorable, clingy girlfriend, aka me” you says puffing your cheeks

He laughs and pats your head, you stick your tongue at him and finally arrive at the library.

You leave Takeomi’s hand and rush to the classic books section, trying to find something from your wishlist.

Takeomi observes how you try on your tiptoes to get a book that is on a high shelf. After a few failed attempts you turn your attention to him, giving him your best puppy eyes, he sighs before helping you out.

“My brilliant friend? Is that book from that series you were talking about before?”

“Right Omi!! You should read it, it’s a beautiful book. The story and characters feel so real and I really like the author’s style.”

“I will princess”

Then you return to your original task, while Takeomi follows you, with his arms gradually becoming full of books and manga.

“Sweetcheeks, aren’t you buying too much?”

“You think Omi? This is only half of my list”

Takeomi could already hear his black card screaming pity and he sighs, before praying to God that your list isn't that long.

Three hours later and some curses from Takeomi, you two finally exit and continue your date.

“Omi let’s go and eat something from a special Valentine’s day menu”

“Sure why not”

And that’s how Akashi Takeomi, 37 years old, Bonten’s advisor, found himself in a cat cafè surrounded by cute and fluffy kittens.

“Omi smile a little please, I want a cute photo for my lockscreen”

“(y/n)”

“Omi pretty please”

He can’t say no and can only surrender to your wish, even if he has to lose his dignity for you.

“Sending this to Haru-chan”

“(y/n) don’t you dare”

You smugly show him that you already sent it, and to Takeomi’s displeasure his brother sent an audio of two and half minutes in which he laughs loudly.

He ignores you and continues to walk, with you on his back humming a song. He can’t help but smile, he loves you more than anything.

Your childlike personality, your little quirks, your shameless behaviour, all this makes his life more beautiful, and he will always thank you for bringing happiness and energy in his dull life.

“(y/n) I love you. You make my life more beautiful, you bring colour in my life and I love you for this. Thank you for bringing happiness to this old man”

“Omi I love you too. You are my favourite old man, that can’t say no to his precious little girl”

So last January i started keeping a notes page for recording tags that made me laugh or smile. I was reading through them and realized it been over a year since i started. So i decided to post them to make you all smile too. The fandoms are in no specific order, but i did post my favorite tags at the top of each section. I used the ";" as a break between tags. Ao3 uses "," but several tags included their own "," and "#" made things harder to read so i swapped it out for ";"

These tags are 95% from ao3 fics (many of them from the same fics). The other 5% consist of tumblr tags, fic titles, and the occasional author note/funny fic quote that i loved so much i wrote it down. I dont remember what each fic each tag was from*, so please dont ask for links, but as they're tags you should be able to search them in the ao3 search engine. However if you want specification to which character a tag was referring to, i do remember that.

You are drenched, your half-unbraided hair clinging to your neck from the pounding rain, seawater sloshing in your boots and soaking your trousers as you bail bucket after bucket from the boat’s belly. Ivar is on the other side manning his own bucket, ignoring you, and the anger rolls off him as the clouds recede and the waves calm. The soaked sails are reefed and silent in the welcome stillness, and all would be calm if you weren’t trembling with exhaustion and dreading Ivar’s inevitable tantrum.

The two of you bail in silence, the motions mechanical as the water level in the boat slowly lowers with your work. It’s a wonder the ship is still floating, since it must be carrying half the ocean. You pause to wipe sweat from your brow, but the instant your arms falter, Ivar turns and lunges at you in one swift motion. A primal howl escapes his gaping mouth, and you barely have the strength left to meet his assault. He knocks you to your back with a splash, and he has the tip of a dagger digging into the notch of your collarbone before you can respond.

“How dare you,” Ivar breathes against your cheek, blue eyes cold and hard as ice. “How dare you not let the gods take us in that storm.”

Your palm rings against his cheek, your fingers stinging from the impact. “We will not be worthy of their halls if we do not fight for it. They can’t be tricked.”

"We are not going to their halls,” he snarls, the dagger piercing your skin. “We are going for Rán's fishing net.” You swat the dagger away, and you’re distantly aware of a splash as Ivar smears the drop of blood up your neck with the callused pad of his thumb. Goosebumps rise at every place his skin meets yours.

"Ràn doesn't want you! That's why she didn't take you the first time."

You know you’re right when he sneers and forces his fingers between your lips. He’s focusing intently on your mouth, pulling your lips back to bare your teeth to him. "Maybe she doesn't, but the crew my father and I sailed with to England does. I hear them call me in the wind and waves, see them in my dreams." His mouth twists, bright eyes cold and far away, as he taps your teeth.

You did not fight with Ivar then, but everyone knows the story--it was the very beginning of his reputation, the very first time people began speaking his name in something close to awe. You clench your jaw, the cold saltwater sloshing around you awakening some anger from deep within you, some fury at this fool’s errand, some twisted envy that you were not beside him on that doomed ship. “Open,” Ivar demands, threat implicit as he taps at your teeth, “or I will make you.”

You resist anyway, because what use will your teeth be when this madman drags you into the sea with him? He tilts his head in that way he has, rolling his jaw as he contemplates you stretched out beneath him in the wet belly of the storm-battered boat. You do not doubt he will knock your teeth into the back of your throat, carve the flesh from your lips simply to taste your blood, and in some way, you want that. But even more, you want to speak to the hurt you know is hiding behind his eyes, so you do, the only way you know how. The only way he'll understand. The two of you never did speak in a language understood by anyone else. You bare your teeth--a challenge, maybe a promise. In the moment, even you aren’t sure.

He rips the dagger from the sheath at your belt and presses the point just into the center of your lower lip, and it takes all your self-control not to flinch and open for him. Iron and salt sting your tongue, sickly sweet, as your own blood drips into your mouth, but you only swallow it down and try not to dwell on the taste. Every part of you wants to give in to him, but you know if you don't resist enough, he'll only make it worse. He'll know you're pitying him.

He leans down closer, dagger slipping lightly to the corner of your mouth, his breath warm against your damp skin, ruffling the hair sticking to your cheek. "Please, Y/N," he asks, barely a whisper. His eyes are right above you, bright and blue enough to break your heart, deep enough to drown in, an ocean in their own right. .

You open your mouth.

A gob of spit lands square on your tongue, an unexpected shock straight to your core. Ivar laughs as you squeal, your hands reaching for the graceful column of his throat. You're throbbing deep in your center, wanting him so much you're panting and shameless as you grind yourself against him.

"I can't believe that worked,” Ivar muses, running his fingers through your hair. He tightens his grip without warning and tugs, tilting your head back, darting down to sink his bruising teeth into your tender neck. “Sure you don't want to serve an easier master, Y/N? A kind one perhaps?" He thrusts himself roughly against you, bracing on his hands, tongue skimming your jawline, the shell of your ear, the bridge of your nose. He’s everywhere and nowhere all at once.

His pulse is racing beneath your fingers as they rest on his neck, but from your position on the floor of the boat, you have no leverage to choke him properly. "No other master would be worth giving myself to the sea for, so why would I serve another?" Your hands slide down his neck to his chest, enjoying the way he tenses and trembles beneath your onslaught. You don't bother taking off his shirt and just tug his trousers down as soon as you reach them.

You're pleased to see he's ready for you, and the sight of him straining toward you makes you wish you’d gotten your own pants off first. That isn’t a concern for much longer. Ivar yanks them down just enough that he can part your legs. He doesn’t bother with checking you, trusting that you’re ready for him, and instead lines his blunt head up to your opening and sheathes himself in you all in one swift motion. The stretch of him filling you is nearly enough to push you beyond the edge already, but you grind your hips against him and revel in his ragged gasp.

“Filthy wanton thing,” he croaks, voice hoarse, and withdraws only to slam into you again. You cry out and he grins crookedly as he sets a punishing pace. Heat pools low in your belly a half dozen thrusts later, your toes curling against the soles of your boots as you begin to clench around him. He pauses when he feels you tighten, and you nearly swallow your pride to beg him to continue.

He pulls out, but doesn’t tuck himself back into your trousers. He only laughs when you ram your first into the side of the boat, then pulls your bleeding knuckles to his lips and kisses them. His eyes are black and wild as he smirks up at you over the back of your hand. “I never said I was done with you, Y/N. Now finish bailing out the boat.”

You stare at him blankly, and he waves his hand imperiously toward your bucket. He only laughs and dodges when you fling it toward his stupid, insufferable face.

#10YearPromise - pingxie blabberings

bc i wasn’t able to answer these questions throughout the week (as i’ve been traveling around while being extremely busy), i decided to just collect all of my answers under one post! i never tire talking about pingxie so this was extremely enjoyable ♥ am also practicing some very shameless self promo in this so be prepared!

thank you for @laireshi for organizing this event (i take it’s you alone? am not sure, sorry for my laziness) and being amazing in general ^^ i won’t be able to join as i am still very busy and summer is always pure chaos for me, so i can only hope that other ppl have fun! if you are not aware of 10 Year Promise Pingxie Exchange, you can find the original announcement post here. join in if you have the time and inspiration ^^

and then to my answers which i will be placing under the cut bc i don’t want to flood anyone’s dash with me going bonkers over these two idiots. enjoy tho if you decide to read this :’D ♥

I. What made you ship pingxie?

Back when I got into Reboot bc of ZYL (as has happened to many ppl probably) and then saw stuff about pingxie once I started going through that drama’s tag on tumblr, my first thought about them was that they had to be a crack ship. The way Reboot portrays them as well as their actors and their huuuge age difference affected this a lot, and I was actually cackling at them bc all their moments in Reboot made me just go “oh, socialist brotherhood at its best” in my head. But then I finished watching Reboot’s 1st season (as the 2nd one wasn’t out yet) and started reading some fics. I learned more about them and the canon storyline. I learned how damn devoted they are to each other, and after that, many moments in Reboot gained new meaning in my eyes. So, I think what made me ship pingxie was a mix of Reboot (especially the hallucination moment where Xiaoge dies and Wu Xie loses it bc that’s my jam as I later on became to notice) and then the amazing fics I dug out during that time. After that the love grew stronger as I watched the other dramas, and these days I’m a lost cause. I feel like I spend most of my awake time thinking about these two and their love. They are amazing. I cry rivers for them.

II. Which pingxie version is your favorite?

After finding pingxie, I fell in love with them properly during TLT2. There is just something about that stage of their relationship for me, the stage where both of them are still very tentative about everything but they have deep down accepted that they’re tied now. Wu Xie is figuring out so many things, coming to terms with being betrayed by his uncle and slowly realizing that something bigger is going on behind the scenes. Meanwhile, Xiaoge is learning how to trust Wu Xie and how to accept that he cannot leave this naïve boy behind. It feels very fragile, and I have so many emotions about TLT2 bc of this. Xiaoge is so soft and feels very multilayered. Wu Xie is still his naïve self but is slowly gaining some sharper edges as he comes to face the cruel world. I like how Cheng Yi and Hou Minghao have portrayed this dynamic. Also, TLT2 is just very extra with all the pingxie scenes, who would be able to resist loving them? So, I have to admit that my favorite pingxie is these two, tho Ultimate Note comes very, very close.

III. What’s your favorite pingxie headcanon?

Headcanons are a bit hard for me as I don’t know enough of the canon. I have not read the novels so most of the story I’ve just patched together from all the bits I’ve read from somewhere (here, on twt, in fics) and through the scenes the dramas have shown me. I feel like the whole world is lowkey made of headcanons for me :’D But hmm, my favorite pingxie headcanon… I’d say there are two and then one bonus bc it’s more a Wu Xie related headcanon than just pingxie. The first one is that the pingxie confession happens after the Bronze Gate. It feels like the only moment when they’re both ready for such a thing. I’d say Xiaoge comes to realize his own feelings a lot earlier and he might tell something to unconscious Wu Xie before leaving for ten years, but he will not actually leave Wu Xie with such a burden. He doesn’t want to ask anything when it sounds like he doesn’t even believe that Wu Xie will be willing to wait for him, and I’d say that for him, his feelings are going to be fine even if Wu Xie never learns about them. He might even wish that Wu Xie never learns about them bc he’s not able to promise much as an immortal and amnesiac being (he outlives Wu Xie, most likely forgets him). For Wu Xie however, I’d say he needs time. He really is way too naïve and I’d say that he needs those ten years to realize that he’s in love with his best friend. I dunno who confesses first after Xiaoge returns but I think that only after that decade their relationship is “mature” enough to hold the weight of a confession (even if I also love to play around with the thought of them getting together during the events of Ultimate Note bc that drama offered many good chances for that). Another headcanon for me is that Xiaoge will find a way to die when Wu Xie does. After learning about them more, I feel like Reboot implies this too. Xiaoge is very accepting of Wu Xie’s death but in the last moments, when he really thinks that this is going to be it for Wu Xie, he hesitates. We see a spark of desperation there, and I’ve come to think that his initial plan, the plan he came up with once he got that call from Wu Xie and knew he would join Wu Xie on his last adventure, was to see this through for Wu Xie’s sake and then leave and die alone. I don’t know how much there would be left for Zhang Qiling after Wu Xie is gone. I feel like this is also what Wu Xie fears. But would he really resent Xiaoge for joining him in death after living such a long and hard life? I’d say no and I’d say that even Pangzi accepts this as one of the most likely outcomes. The bonus one then feels very personal to me. I don’t usually talk about this bc I feel so unsure of even mentioning this but I’ve seen others with similar thoughts so am sharing! I’ve never before gotten any vibes about a character’s sexuality in a drama I’ve watched but Reboot Wu Xie looked at me once in the eye and all I could hear was my brain yelling “asexual”. So, that is just my personal headcanon for Wu Xie. He’s ace and proud of it. He can flirt etc. but sex makes him go naah. He doesn’t need it or want it. He can appreciate beauty and hot ppl without wanting to sleep with them and I think his relationship with Xiaoge fits very well into this. I don’t have any personal experiences with being ace but I feel like Wu Xie has read the name once, shrugged and gone, “guess that’s me” and continued on with his life. He’s badass like that and I love him for it. (take a very relevant meme lol from this post)

IV. What’s the ideal pingxie date?

Ah, christ. I dunno if I’ve ever thought about them going on a date? In the middle of tomb raiding, hospital trips and fighting against powers bigger than themselves, I’ve rarely seen any time for them to do something like that lol. But after Ultimate Note, I’ve thought about star gazing a lot. Just them, the infinite night sky and some lonely hilltop. They would probably take a blanket with them, huddle together and talk about things in hushed voices. Wu Xie would go on a ramble about all the constellations and their meanings and mythology behind them and Xiaoge would just nod at him and watch Wu Xie talking. Maybe he would offer some tidbits in the middle of the rambling, making Wu Xie smile brightly. It would be relaxing and comfortable and loving. They would make out a lil bit. Would maybe lie down and play with each other’s hair. All their worries would feel insignificant. Wu Xie would fall asleep for a moment and Xiaoge would wake him up with a kiss to get him moving again so that they don’t need to sleep on the cold ground. They would return home and drink something warm and then go to sleep, cuddled together and happy. relevant edit x

V. What’s your favorite pingxie getting together scenario?

I guess I already talked about this a bit but let me elaborate then! As said, I’d see it happening after the Bronze Gate. I am not sure if it would be right away (they’re both going through so much trauma at that point) or if it would happen after Reboot (maybe we would still need Wu Xie almost dying for them to get their shit together), but I’d say it happens in a rush either way. It’s one of those “I have to tell you something before it’s too late” -type of moments. Or one of those “Bc I love you, you idiot!” -type of moments. I feel like I keep thinking that maybe Wu Xie would have to confess first bc as said, Xiaoge wouldn’t like to burden Wu Xie with his feelings when there’s so little he can give in the sense of normalcy. But then again, I have written a oneshot where Xiaoge is the first one to confess and that always feels better for me. That at some point Xiaoge feels secure enough to tell Wu Xie about his own feelings. That he feels confident and comfortable enough to say it out loud while still expecting nothing in return bc he knows that Wu Xie won’t abandon him either way. But no matter how that happens, I always see it as this dam breaking. The emotions finally become too strong. Something happens that reminds them that life is too short. Something happens that makes them finally talk it out and ah, Pangzi can finally take a break, what a joy

VI. What’s your favorite pingxie moment?

Every adaptation has its own good moments so let me make a list (like I saw someone else do too):

The Lost Tomb:

Xiaoge rescues Wu Xie from the shibie

Wu Xie worrying over unconscious Xiaoge plus taking care of him in the hotel room

The Pingxie MomentTM aka Xiaoge saving Wu Xie from falling and then cradling the boy to his chest while thumb rubbing his shoulder

The Lost Tomb 2:

Xiaoge revealed to be Baldie and Wu Xie yelling at him about it

I haven’t really thought about this type of stuff either bc we have already seen a ton of gifts being exchanged! I love the watch Wu Xie gives to Xiaoge in TLT2 as mentioned (it’s so silly but also so sweet) and I love it that Wu Xie gifts Xiaoge with a new sword in Ultimate Note. Also, I feel like I can count the food Wu Xie leaves for Xiaoge in Ultimate Note and that one moment where Xiaoge offers his knife for Wu Xie as a “pen”. They would give anything for each other as long as the other asked (which they never do) so I dunno what type of gift would matter the most. As it’s so hard to say, let me talk about one more headcanon that I’ve been thinking about ever since the infamous Bazaar photoshoot for Ultimate Note/XYL & ZSX. So, we see them having matching rings and necklaces in that photoshoot. I think jewelry would be kind of difficult for Xiaoge to wear when he needs to fight, as jewelry could be a hindrance in that type of situation But my brain won’t shut up about “pingxie married!!!” when I ask this question from it. To be honest, I do not see pingxie getting married in the traditional sense. They don’t need something like that after everything they’ve gone through. But I like to play around with the thought of promise rings. Just them exchanging rings for fun, for their own sakes, to have something concrete that reminds them of their promise to each other and of their feelings. Maybe even Xiaoge could wear that ring under his gloves idk. But am a sucker for that thought so my answer to this is then simply: a ring. relevant edits x x

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try really hard to respond to every comment, but sometimes they pile up and the anxiety of seeing the number gets to me and I just mark them all read and start over with a clean slate. So, apologies if I skipped you. I promise it was nothing personal, just me trying to practice some fumbling self-care.

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Probably Curtain Call, which is a Roy Harper-centric DCU fic exploring his feelings in the aftermath of the 2015 Red Hood/Arsenal run.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Pretty much all my fic have happy endings, so I’m not sure which one is the happiest. I feel like that’s a subjective question, haha.

7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I do write crossovers! I love crossovers and crack fic premises and wild “okay but just go with me here” scenarios, haha. They’re the most fun to figure out, imo. The craziest one I’ve ever written is probably the Shameless-meets-Ducktales crossover I did for Tumblr Jukebox a little while back, though the one I picked up as a pinch hit for the Crossworks Fandom Exchange just last month, crossing over Brooklyn Nine-Nine with Dragon Age: Inquisition is definitely a contender for that spot.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I received a couple of snide comments on a Matt/Foggy Daredevil fic I did under a different name back when I was in college, but that’s about it.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do! I don’t think I’m particularly bad at it, though I do find it very difficult. I’m not sure what the “what kind” question is asking, exactly, but I actually do a smut writing challenge called Monday, Slutty Monday that includes a list of kinks I’m willing to write. You can give it a gander here, if you’re curious.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, though I have had someone ask if they could use the concept of the lover’s noose from By a Thread, By a String, By a Rope for their original works. I said no, largely because it’s a concept I intend to use in my own original works, though I welcome transformative, not-for-profit works to remix or reimagine or play in any of my sandboxes.

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I have! I was lucky enough to have Doomed to Play, a Magnificent Seven werewolf/vampire AU, translated into Russian several years back!

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have not! I am extremely interested, though, as I’m a huge fan of old-school, forum-style roleplaying and I really, really love collaborating on projects, so if you’re interested, please feel free to reach out to me and ask! I can’t promise anything, because I’m lucky enough to live a very full and busy life, but who knows!

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I am not really sure that I have an all-time favorite ship. I have a few oldies but goodies that I revisit pretty regularly, including Harry/Draco, which was baby’s first ship, and Fraser/Kowalski of Due South fame, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a true OTP.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

God, so many of them, haha. I’m terrible about finishing WIPs because I have a very short attention span, but I’m not fully willing to write any of them off because I do periodically poke at the GDocs for a lot of them, even if they haven’t been updated in years. The only one I truly don’t foresee finishing is So Let Us Not Be Lonesome, which is a Magnificent Seven ghost/medium AU, and the only reason I don’t foresee finishing it is because I hope to one day revisit it as an original work.

15. What are your writing strengths?

I’m pretty routinely cheered in comments for writing true-to-character dialogue, really lush sensory descriptions, and tempting food descriptions, so I’ll go with those.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

I tend to overwrite and I really fucking love adverbs, haha. I was a big reader of doorstopper fantasy in my youth, which tend to be really, really purple in their prose, so I lean in that direction. I have a lot of betas whose opinions I trust tell me I go too purple quite often, but I love my descriptive language so I’m not sure it’s a weakness I’ll ever overcome. Let’s call it a stylistic choice, for now, haha.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I do it all the time, and I really enjoy it in other folks’ fic, so long as the dialogue is something that a non-speaker can still understand from context. I think I probably wasn’t great with that when I first started writing Spanish-speaking characters into my fic, but I like to think I’ve gotten a better handle on it since then.

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

I think it was honestly Ronin Warriors, an anime that used be on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block way back in the day. I had a lengthy and involved Mary Sue self-insert fic that got be like, a few hundred pages long, though it never saw the light of day.

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

The two currently at the top of my list are Ted Lasso and 9-1-1, though I can hardly watch a piece of media these days without seeing something in it I want to explore that the creators didn’t have the time or inclination to explore, or that didn’t fit their narrative.

20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Oh, this is so hard! I honestly don’t know. I don’t tend to go back and re-read my own fic too terribly often, so I’m really not sure, but I will say that one of the ones I think is underrated is The Lady and the Knife, which is a Luther/BBC Sherlock fic that came about because I got tired of Sherlock stans claiming his behavior should be forgiven because he was a high-functioning sociopath and thought it would be fun to see what happened if he ever crossed paths with someone who was actually a high-functioning sociopath and not just a dick. (Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the early BBC Sherlock and some of the fic is chefkissingfingers.gif, I just really hate it when people require their characters to be morally upright at all times. Let them be villains! Let them be dicks! Don’t apologize for finding that interesting!)
