Warnings: mentions pregnancy, mentions abortions, false positives pregnancy test, panic/anxiety, cursing, mentions wanting to vomit, angst and angst (let me know if I forgot anything) this is also lightly edited

Dallas walks on shaky legs out of the restroom, her shaking hands gripping the used pregnancy test. She already knows the answer, she was way too curious to wait to look at the test with Nick.
“Here,” she hands it over to him and waits for his reaction.
“It’s positive,” he states once looking at the plus sign.
He looks up at her and his eyes glimmer in what seems like excitement. Dallas finds it slightly terrifying.
“I know. I need to book an appointment with an OBGYN to confirm if it’s true,” she says, fingers carding through her hair as she paces around her apartment.
She tries to calm her erratic heart, but it’s no use. The more she thinks about being pregnant, the more panic fills her every thought.
“Hey, June bug, it’s going to be okay. I love you, baby,” he wraps her in his arms and kisses her forehead.
“It’s not okay! I can’t be pregnant. I can’t be. A baby will change everything,” Dallas pulls away, too panicked to think about anything other than the fact that a baby could ruin everything.
“What’s so wrong with you being pregnant? We’re married and we’ll be living together next school year,” he points out, eyebrows dipped down in confusion.
“Are you hearing the words coming out of your mouth? We just got married! We should be enjoying our time as newlyweds, not worrying about children. Children that will take our time away from school! Children that will take me away from my clothes and children that will take you away from hockey,” Dallas stresses, her hands flying out at her sides to convey her clear point of view on the situation.
She’s passed the point of staying sane, she’s too worried about their futures. She stares into Nick’s eyes, daring him to counter her argument even though he can’t.
“We can work around those things. If anybody can do it, it’s us. I’ve said those words to you when you were hesitant about getting married. I meant them then and I mean them now,” he says, voice eerily calm.
The girl walks up to him, placing her hands on his chest. She hopes the beat of his heart can help calm her down.
“This isn’t the right time for us to have a baby,” she says in the simplest way. Her hands move to the sides of his face to make sure his eyes peer into hers.
His eyes aren’t the normal, ocean blue. They’re like stone, dark and void of anything.
“I don’t know what to say,” he mutters.
“Say you support whatever choice I decide to make. If I’m pregnant, I can’t promise that I won’t seriously consider getting an abortion. At least just understand why I’m making the choice I decide to go through with,” Dallas’ bottom lip trembles when he stays silent for too long. His support is the most important thing to her at this moment.
“What can I do to convince you that we should keep the baby? I get that it’s ultimately your choice, but we’re married. That isn’t just your baby,” he points to her stomach, and this is when it hits Dallas.
This is very very real. She’s pregnant and she’s lost at a crossroads. Even though she wholeheartedly knows that if she keeps the baby, she wouldn’t be doing it for herself. And for once, she doesn’t know what to say to her husband.

Dallas waits with a bated breath, eyes zeroed in on the screen. Nick’s hand is clutched in hers, his eyes also focused on the screen.
There’s no heartbeat pounding through the silence and there’s no black and white blob popping up.
“Okay, Mrs. Moldenhauer, it appears that you are not pregnant. It’s very likely that you had a defective test. False positives aren’t rare, but they also don’t happen often. If you don’t have any questions, then I’ll leave you to get cleaned up and you’re free to leave,” the doctor says.
She feels her shoulders fall in relief, she’s so happy she could cry. Dallas doesn’t notice at first, but Nick is quick to pull his hand out of hers.
“I don’t have any. Thank you so much,” she says and hastily cleans herself up when the doctor leaves.
She lets out a breath she felt she was holding in forever. Her eyes return back to their usual shine and she can’t stop the relieved smile from taking over.
Nick stays silent, walking out of the room before Dallas can even button her pants. By the time she makes it out, Nick is already walking out the front door and heading towards the car. She’s not naive, she knows he’s upset. However, there’s really nothing to be upset about anymore. She’s not pregnant so their problems are solved.
“Nick!” She shouts after him.
“Are you happy you got what you wanted?” He asks, voice harsh.
It makes Dallas flinch.
She takes a moment to process his words, eyes blinking in shock.
“Jeez, Nick, you’re acting like I was actually pregnant and got an abortion,” she snaps and jumps into the driver’s seat of her car.
“Same difference. You didn’t want the damn baby, so I know you’re just so fucking happy to not be pregnant,” he snaps back, making Dallas’ blood begin to boil.
Her face is red and her chest heaves, desperate for some type of soothing air.
“I’ve given you all of me, Nick! I gave you my time, my heart, I gave up my last name in order to take yours! How can you ask that I give you this ONE THING when I’m not ready?” She shouts, too overcome with anger to think about what she’s saying, or how it's being perceived.
“You make it sound like you had no choice but to marry me. If you truly didn’t want to marry me, then you shouldn’t have, Dallas! Do you honestly think I’m ready to have kids right now? Because I’m not, but I was willing to try and to work hard for our family. I was willing to go all in with you, because I love you and I eventually want a family with you. You just thought about yourself, and I understand because it’s your body. I’m your husband, though. Would it kill you to have any consideration for my feelings or for the things I want? I would’ve taken care of my baby- even if it meant you leaving us behind and me being a single dad,” he unloads each of his thoughts.
Dallas can’t help the way her tears roll down her cheeks. It hurts to even fathom a thought about Nick being a single father to their child. It absolutely kills her that Nick would think that she’d leave them behind.
“You can drop me off at my dorm. I need to think about whether or not we should continue with our marriage,” Nick whispers, the words burning his throat.
Dallas whips her head over to him, but quickly refocuses on the road ahead. She’s left in silence. Well not complete silence. She can hear the labored breathing coming from husband and the way he sniffles after his tears loudly smack against the leather interior of the car.
Her stomach twists and turns, but she forces the bile down with large empty gulps.
“Nick,” she searches her mind for the right words to say, but she doesn’t know how to fix things without causing more damage.
“I’m sorry, Dallas. I’m sorry if I’m too much for you,” he apologizes when he doesn’t have to.
Dallas shakes her head repeatedly, her hand coming up to wipe away her tears. A stuttered gasp rips up her throat as she starts to sob. His words cut her open and leave her out to dry. Their distance becomes stark when he doesn’t even reach out to console her, but she honestly doesn’t think she deserves it anyway.

A Golden Lovers Timeline
PART 14: CRISIS
it’s new years dash again (the day after WK) and we hit a crisis point
it starts off normal enough, the Elite have a match tagging together and as you can see Kenny and Matt are still pretty beat up from last night [LINK]

for months now Cody has been targeting Kota to try to get Kenny to react
And finally, finally he does
when it becomes clear what Cody is going to do Kenny has to make a choice, and the speed with which he reacts suggests it was barely a choice at all. he’s already on his way before Cody even raises the chair

the way they start chanting his name as he and Cody shout at each other, the only ones in this situation who are unequivocally on his side in this, wholeheartedly supporting his choice to protect Kota
It’s just a perfect moment, one of my favorites in this whole story. it’s the first moment of Kenny’s feelings for Kota being put out in front of everyone, finally unmasked for what they really are. everything he’s been telling us for years has been a lie, he doesn’t want to fight Kota at all. he can’t bear to see him hurt, can’t bear it to such an extent that he attacks one of his own friends, shoves his own stablemates, pushed into action without thought or plan by the power of his feelings for Kota
(and as a queer person it makes me emotional to see a gay love story so public, so central to the plot, with all these other characters involved and invested)
Kota ends up curled up by the edge of the ring, not looking. waiting.

unfortunately for Kenny, Jay isn’t actually very much like 2015!Kenny at all
he isn’t a deeply insecure, heartbroken loser so desperate to become something worthwhile that he’ll join a group he knows isn’t a good fit and make himself second to a man he doesn’t respect. he isn’t trying to bury a golden heart underneath grey hair and anime villain posturing, he’s genuinely garbage through and through.
and he knows the look of a man spinning wildly out of control when he sees one. he’s not hitching his horse to that wagon

Jay recognizes this BC invitation as the admission of fear that it is, what better way of keeping a potential rival out of your way then bringing them into your stable? (stablemates fight at most once a year during the G1 climax)

I feel like 2016 and 2017 were the years of Kenny Omega getting everything he ever said he wanted and finding those victories empty
He won two heavyweight titles, became the first foreigner to ever win the G1, main-evented WK... but the closest he felt to happiness during that time was winning the G1, and he said: “Maybe the only other time I felt that was when I was a tag team with an old partner of mine.”
he used to feel that joy that all the time when he was with Kota, and now he only gets brief flashes of it
Even Kota’s return has been completely different to what Kenny said he wanted. No epic showdown where Kenny could finally prove himself better, instead Kota reached out and Kenny pulled away
and during this time his only solace has been the Young Bucks
but lately the bucks have been distracted with their youtube show and their new ROH friends (including Cody)
last night at WK Kenny had to stumble out alone, and today at NYD the bucks didn’t have his back yet again
after the show the the BTE guys go out to a restaurant together and shit finally hits the fan [LINK]
hilariously it starts off with Nick (holding the bucks’ single emotional intelligence brain cell as usual) noticing the tension between kenny and cody and being confused (proof that the bucks genuinely didn’t see what happened at NYD)
and Kenny let’s it all spill out

but those things are mild aggravations compared to the central issue here. and Kenny finally acknowledges it

this is so heartbreaking to me. Kenny is finally pushed to the point of admitting that he has tried to protect Kota, and just as he gets there, Matt begins complaining that kenny is ruining their nice dinner, like kenny isn’t demanding an explanation for the love of his life getting jumped by a supposed friend
but the bucks don’t understand what this is really about. not only did they not see the events of NYD, they think the tension between kenny and cody is about Being The Leader (something they care nothing about), so they can’t recognize what is really at stake here or why Kenny is so deeply upset
and you almost can’t blame them, because Kenny has been lying so hard about it for so long
after NYD he gives an interview in Tokyo Sports and tries to pass off his reaction as annoyance at Cody for stepping out of line
(When he tried to attack Ibushi) Cody went into business for himself. That's the kind of thing Jericho would do, or Suzuki Gun. I don't want that from Bullet Club. I want us to be the best in ring bell to bell. I'll have to go back to Canada, take a break and think about this. Of course Kota and I have a lot of history but any more than that.. no comment.

I really do think that if Kenny had, at this point, taken them aside and explained everything to the bucks, they’d have had his back. but he just isn’t capable of that admission right now. maybe he never was, but certainly not now when he’s feeling so embattled and alone

summary: spencer cannot wait to propose, but you accidentally beat him to it (spencer reid x fem!reader)

author’s note: this is 100% based on one of my favorite episodes of new girl (google doc name is winston bishop type shit), also this is mega self-indulgent so if u don’t like dinosaurs and/or ferns i’m sorry :/
You let out a satisfied hum. Everything was quite nearly perfect. Presently, you were sitting on a bench next to the little duck pond in the park by your apartment, and you watched as tendrils of the weeping willow grazed the surface, sending gentle ripples across the water. It seemed to glow in the dappled sunlight. An adorable duck family was nestled into some of the reeds, and your heart was happy as you watched the mother tending to her ducklings. This was your favorite spot in the entire city.
“Hey, Spence?” Your head rested on his shoulder as he read one of the Ray Bradbury novels that he loved dearly. You weren’t sure which one he was on now; he’d been determined to read his entire collection this weekend and had been flying through.
“Yes, dear?” His eyes didn’t leave the pages, but you didn’t mind.
“What do you call a group of ducks?”
“There’s a couple names actually. It can be called a raft, team, or paddling; it’s a matter of preference.” Finally, he shifted his gaze toward you, and he couldn’t help the smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. The flush of your cheeks and the wisps of your hair, he was so incredibly enamored, he loved you so much. And he was so excited to let you know so soon, but not quite yet.
“I think I like paddling.”
“Yeah, me too.” Shutting his eyes to revel in this moment, he pressed a kiss to the crown of your head. 
“Hey, Spence?”
“Yes, dear?”
“Do you wanna get married?”
What.
Spencer floundered in the absolute contradiction of feelings that he found himself submerged in in that moment. Ice flooded his veins, and his face heated. His blood pressure skyrocketed, and oh God, it’s not supposed to happen like this. Yes, he loves her terribly, and yes, he absolutely wants to marry her, but he had a plan! An incredibly intricate and thoughtful twenty-two step plan that was going to take place over the course of the next month. It was all laid out in an entire binder in his desk. All he could muster in response was an extremely eloquent, “Uh—well, uh—”
Oblivious to his inner turmoil, you finally lifted your head to look at him with the biggest heart eyes he’s ever seen, and he can’t help but feel so, so guilty. “I just thought, why not, you know? Spencer, I love you a whole lot, and I’m pretty sure you love me a whole lot too. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, and I want the rest of my life to start right now.” 
“No.”
Judging by the look on your face, that was clearly not the answer you were expecting. “No?”
“Uh, yeah, no.” God, stupid dumb idiot, telling the girl you want to marry that you don’t want to marry her. What’s the point of having 187 IQ points if you use exactly none of them when it actually matters?
“No, you don’t want to marry me?” Your heart dropped into your stomach and was falling further and further every passing second.
“Wait no, hold on—” 
“No, I get it,” you choked out, hastily standing up from the bench. “Actually, I don’t get it, but that doesn’t really matter, I guess.” You jammed your arms into the sleeves of your jacket, so you could get out of this moment as soon as humanly possible. Holy shit, had you been blind-sided. “Um, I think I’m gonna go hang out with Penelope, might spend the night, I’m not sure. Enjoy your book.” And with that, you were speeding down the path out of the park.
“Wait, (Y/N/N)!” Spencer tried to gather his belongings to run after you, but you had a head start, and he couldn’t gather all of the books in his arms fast enough. Leave the books!!! Go after her!!! But you had already turned the corner and were out of sight.
With his books finally secure, Spencer sprinted in the direction of your shared apartment. He needed to fix this. And fast.

Morgan sat at his desk peacefully looking over the plans for a house he was renovating when the phone rang, and he couldn't help but internally groan at the sound. If Hotch is calling on his weekend off, so help him God, he would hang up and chuck the phone out the window.
Instead, he was met with Garcia’s voice, which was so loud he had to pull the phone away from his ear. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, mama. Let’s take it down a few notches.”
“Alright, fine, babycakes,” she hissed, and Derek was shocked at the unfamiliar venom in her tone. “Would you please be so kind as to explain to me why your dear friend Reid is the most evil, most reprehensible, most despicable—”
“Garcia, what are you talking about?”
“You mean that little rat boy hasn’t come crawling to you explaining his crimes?”
Despite his infinite patience for her antics, he sighed quietly. “I’m in the dark, baby girl, but I’m sure whatever Reid did, it can’t be that bad.”
“Oh, it can be that bad! He told (Y/N) that he didn’t want to marry her.”
“He did what?” Derek’s eyes were practically popping out of his head at the news. There’s no way that happened.
“He said that he didn’t want to marry our precious lily flower (Y/N)! I love that boy, but now, (Y/N) is here bawling her eyes out on my couch, and I don’t know what to do!”
His heart broke a little at the thought of his friend being so devastated, but he couldn’t help the roaring confusion that plagued him. Derek knew that Spencer was planning to propose to you; he’d seen the binder. He’d even been recruited to help with Steps 4, 9, 10, and 18! 
Oh.
And that’s when Derek had a sneaking suspicion as to what had occurred. “Penelope, were his exact words ‘I don’t want to marry—” But his attention was drawn away from the phone by a knock on the door.
Speak of the devil….
“Garcia, I gotta go, but tell (Y/N) everything’s gonna be okay. I’m gonna have a word with our boy.”
“Oh my God, is he there with you?! That little bastard—” He hung up before her words could become any sharper, and the knocking became frantic.
“Okay, okay, I’m coming!” He jogged to go unlock the door. “You’re gonna knock the door down, kid.”
The door swung open to reveal Spencer, huffing and puffing with a red face and a binder in arm. “Morgan, I am the stupidest man to ever walk the Earth.”
“Did you run here?”
Ignoring the question, he pushed past him with an agitated step. “I am a complete idiot, a dumbass, if you will.”
Morgan shut the door and crossed his arms, walking to stand opposite Reid who had sat on the couch with his head in his hands. “Yeah, I might agree with you on that one. Garcia called me, told me (Y/N) is crying on her couch ‘cause you told her you didn’t want to marry her, which I know is not true.”
“I didn’t say that!” he cried, gesticulating wildly. “Not exactly. She asked me if I wanted to get married—”
“And what did you say?”
His hesitation was palpable. “...No.”
“Yeah, I’d say that constitutes dumbass behavior, especially because I know you only said that because you have your proposal all planned out, and you want it to be perfect.”
“Morgan, you don’t get it,” he implored, the desperation evident in his eyes, and Derek finally started feeling a little bad for the kid, an inkling of sympathy squirming in his gut. “No one deserves the most perfect proposal more than (Y/N). No one. You know how she’s always felt unwanted, and she’s told me that she felt like she always has to ask for love, and I couldn’t let her feel like that with me. I had to make sure that she had a special proposal because she’s special. And I want her to know without having to ask that I want her more than anything else in this world.”
Reid looked down at the toes of his scuffed Converse, hoping that he hadn’t permanently fucked up his best chance at happiness, and Morgan’s expression softened. “I know, kid. And I’m not trying to rub salt in the wound, but you do know that this was not the best way of letting her know that she’s wanted and loved?”
“Yes, I know, Morgan,” he muttered, voice breaking around the slug in his throat. “I wasn’t thinking.”
A sigh. “No, you weren’t. But I’m gonna help you fix it.”
Reid looked up with wide eyes. “Really?”
“You both deserve to be happy...even if you make some pretty stupid choices sometimes.” 
Reid didn’t think he’d ever felt so grateful for his friend, and he offered a smile in gratitude. “Thanks. But I don’t even know where to start.”
Quirking an eyebrow and returning with a grin, Morgan picked up the binder from the table where it had been set. “I’ve got a couple ideas.”

“How is she doing?”
“Erm, it’s not looking great,” Garcia responded.
She was openly hostile when Reid had called her (he’d never been on the receiving end of Garcia’s wrath (so few people had been), and he was sure that was something he never wanted to experience again), but she’d finally restrained herself and offered a little empathy (not a lot though, she was too loyal to (Y/N) for that) when he had explained himself. However, when she’d been informed of the plan to apologize, regain your love and trust and to maybe, just maybe, ask for your hand in marriage, she had wholeheartedly avowed her support and pledged her help despite still being a little miffed at boy genius’ idiocy.
“She’s been sitting on the floor of the bathroom for an hour listening to Landslide on repeat and crying, so I would say she’s, um…not well.”
Spencer winced at that, and he felt physically sick at the thought that you were hurting because of him. His heart clenched unbearably, and he wished so badly that he could take back his words and just say yes, but unfortunately for him, time is linear, and he was just going to have to do his best to fix things.
“I just need a couple more hours to get everything ready.”
“Well, hurry up, pretty boy! I love our girl immensely, but if I have to hear Stevie Nicks mourn the passage of time and love one more time, I will lose my mind.”
“Garcia, please, just be patient.”
She groaned. “You’re lucky I love you.” And with that, she hung up.

You huffed a sigh, clutching to your chest a shiny pink pillow covered in sequins and giving Garcia the biggest puppy eyes you could muster. “Please, Penny, let’s not go out to dinner. Let’s just stay in and order Cheesecake Factory; you love Cheesecake Factory!”
“You’re right I do, but I love you more, and right now, you need to get up and get some fresh air!” The almost excessive amount of peppiness in her voice and her refusal of Cheesecake Factory was slightly suspicious, but you didn’t really have time to consider it as she dragged you up off the couch and to the door.
“Okay, counterpoint: what if you went out for dinner, and I stayed in and wallowed in self-pity?”
By the look on her face, you knew your evading tactics were not going to fly. She tutted slightly and said, “You’ve got to know I can’t let you do that. I’m legally obligated to stay with you until you feel better, that’s the deal when you’re friends with me.” She grabbed your coat, holding it open for you. 
Reluctantly, you sighed and slid your arms in, grumbling, “You’re too nice for your own good.”
“Well, that’s very sweet of you, but let’s get a move on!” And with that, she herded you out the door.

It was a nice dinner, the two of you out on the town, and for a while, you were granted the solace of distraction. Garcia took you into the city, and somehow it felt a little easier to breathe there under the streetlights amidst a bustling Saturday night crowd. You nestled together in some street corner diner, ordering an absurd amount of food and jabbering on about anything and everything. If she noticed the moments when you fell silent, eyes distant and glassy, (and she definitely did), she never said anything; she just offered a new topic and redirected you from the very sad place that was thoughts of Spencer. And you would latch on eagerly, seizing the opportunity to forget.
So, you spent the evening with late night waffles and french fries and milkshakes and the unending source of cheer that was Penelope Garcia, and by the end of it, your mind didn’t immediately redirect to that morning’s tragedy, which Garcia would define as a success. Together, you found your way back to her car, and you tumbled into the passenger seat, your eyelids immediately fluttering shut. Penelope grinned and drove off.
When you woke again, you were engulfed in bewilderment and not just the regular post-nap disorientation. “Penny, why are we at the National Mall? This is the opposite direction of your house.”
She tapped her acrylics on the steering wheel and nervously surveyed the street in front of her, trying to escape your prying gaze. “Uh—no reason!”
Too exhausted from your day of grief and distraction to be suspicious of her terrible lying, you leaned your head back against the seat, watching the glow of the streetlamps as they roved over the interior of the car.
Garcia seized this movement to set the next part of Reid’s plan in motion. “Hey! You know, what’d be fun is if we went to the Natural History museum! There’s nothing better to cheer you up than dusty old dinosaur bones.” (She didn’t necessarily understand the appeal, but she was trying her best.)
A small chuckle escaped you. “As much as I’d love that, it closed at nine, so we wouldn’t even be able to get in anyway.”
Garcia’s mind thundered furiously as she tried to come up with some way to get you in that freaking building. “Let’s just walk past! Take a peek through the windows, see what we can see!”
Something in you sensed that she wasn’t going to let this go, so you relented as she finagled some sort of street parking that was definitely illegal. You could barely get your seatbelt off before she was dragging you the stone steps, the massive corinthian columns looming. You squeaked a quick Penelope! and tried to keep up. Entirely ready to give up and head back to the car when she tried the door, your mouth fell open in shock when it gave way with ease. 
“Oh, look! It’s open! Let’s go inside.”
She didn’t wait for you to respond before she was ducking in the building, and you followed, completely and utterly baffled. Stumbling into the atrium, you were met by a receptionist at the desk. She smiled warmly, “Miss (Y/L/N), I presume?”
You nodded slowly before turning to Garcia whose devious smirk was undeniable. “Penny, what is going on?”
She grabbed your hands and looked at you with tears in her eyes. (Where the hell did those come from?) “Just remember that you’re a very forgiving person, and that sometimes the smartest of us can also be the most stupid.”
Furrowing your brows at that slightly cryptic message, you went to respond when the receptionist stood and said, “If you would, miss, please follow me.”
And so you walked with this stranger through the empty halls, the click of her heels echoing. It was odd to see a space that was normally flushed with people completely empty, and you studied the walls as you walked. “Um, may I ask what’s going on?”
The receptionist grinned, “I’m sorry, but I’m under strict instructions from Dr. Reid to not reveal anything.”
Strict instructions from Dr. Reid. You gasped a little at that, and your thoughts raged with possibilities of what Spencer could possibly have planned. If this was an elaborate attempt at an apology, you were a little overwhelmed; the little dispute this morning absolutely did not necessitate a response of this degree. Sure, you were disappointed, and you needed time to deal with it away from him, but you weren’t mad at him, not really. You had talked about marriage and knew that it was something you both wanted, but you had never discussed when. If he wasn’t ready to marry you quite yet, that was fine; you’d adjust. You were pretty sure you’d wait a whole lifetime for him. Besides, you had sprung it on him quite abruptly, and you knew Spencer and that he was not always well-equipped to deal with monumental change, and how could you blame him for that? You’d wait as long as he needed. 
“Here we are!”
Her words broke you from your thoughts, and you looked up to realize you were at the Hall of Fossils. (You had always been fond of the dinosaurs.) Glancing at the girl, you asked, “What do I do now?”
She laughed a little at that. “Just go inside. Take a look around.” And with that, she turned around, leaving you to wander the exhibit. 
So you ambled easily through the prehistoric relics and fossilized memories of a past Earth. It was rather haunting, the eerie silence and the illuminated dinosaur skeletons. You peered down at one of the explanatory plaques and instead found a blue post-it note. COLD. A grin wormed its way onto your face, and you jogged a little to the next plaque. GREENHOUSE GASES—WARMER. Spencer was always one for a game. So you zig-zagged through, collecting post-its. GLACIAL PERIOD—COLDER. CRETACEOUS WARMING. EOCENE KIND OF HOT! 
With the last note, you looked up and gasped yet again. Spencer was standing in a sea of different plants and flowers placed throughout the central clearing, and donning his signature tight-lipped smile and your favorite of his cardigans, he gave you a small wave. “Hi.”
“Hello.” Your response was breathless, and now that you had met his eyes, you couldn’t tear yours away. A weight lifted from your lungs, it was such a relief to see him, and you hadn’t realized how much you had missed him in the hours you spent apart until you could breathe properly again. “Fancy seeing you here.”
He chuckled at that, but the tension in his shoulders never released; he was clearly anxious, but for what reason, it was hard to say. 
An amusing gleam in his eye, he replied, “Same to you.” 
“How did you get into the museum after hours?”
He took the moment to examine the toes of his shoes, replying delicately, “I have friends in high places.”
“Ah, Dr. Reid, I always forget that you ruled the world of academia before your time fighting crime.”
He paused for a moment before continuing. “Do you remember our first date?”
You gave him a tender smile, and his racing heartbeat eased ever so slightly, you just had that kind of effect on him. “Well,” you began, “I remember you were wearing that cardigan, the one that I love, and I was so nervous I thought I was going to pass out—”
“I was definitely more nervous. I was so anxious I forgot who Carl Sagan was at one point.”
“I’d forgotten about that!” You giggled at the memory. “But I remember being in this room, and we were making stupid dinosaur puns, and I believe I told you that you are dino-mite….”
He nodded meekly with a subdued grin. “I think that was the moment I fell in love with you.” Meeting his eyes once again, you felt the wind knocked out of you. The utter honesty you found radiating from his soft golden irises hurt your heart, and it was impossible to not believe him. He fell in love on the first date, how sweet and lovely and perfectly Spencer is that?
You took a breath and began to walk closer, skimming a hand over the lush greenery around you. “You know, the last time I was here, I didn’t remember there being so much flora.” 
As if he had forgotten the miniature forest that surrounded him, he surveyed the plants surrounding him. There was a sea of succulents and ferns and honeysuckle and peonies and almost every other plant under the sun. “Yes, they’re a new addition. And if I recall correctly, it seems that lots of your favorites have made an appearance.”
“It does appear that way.”
He reached out to gently lift one strand of a nearby fern. “I believe you’ve mentioned before that you would ‘take a fern over a flower any day of the week.’”
“That would explain why they seem to be taking over the windowsills of our apartment.”
“True. Did you know that in the Victorian floriography, the fern represented sincerity and humility? So maybe if somebody had made a stupid mistake and they were trying to let someone know that they were really sorry, they might give a fern to say that they know they were being an idiot and they felt really bad for what they did.”
You laughed airily, “No, I was not aware of that fact.”
He closed the gap between you, reaching to tuck an errant lock of hair behind your ear. He simultaneously managed to pull a small bouquet of purple-ish flowers from thin air, causing more laughter to bubble from you. The laughing is a good sign, he thought, grinning. Keep going! “To really drive the point home, they might also give some columbine which represents foolishness.”
You looked up at him, your expression bright. “Oh man, this guy feels really bad.”
“Yeah,” he agreed before his words took a more somber cadence. “Yeah, he does.”
Your face softened. “Spence—” 
“Um, before you say anything else, (Y/N), I just need to let you know how sorry I am for this morning. I love you so, so much, and I never want you to doubt that, and—”
“Spencer, slow down. Really, it’s okay! I’m not mad.”
“Well, I’m glad you’re not angry with me, but it’s not okay because you still deserve an apology. A good apology. So,” he took a deep breath, “I am so very sorry for my actions and for letting you think for even a second that you’re not the most important thing in my life, and I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you that I want to marry you when you asked because I do. I really, really do.”
Something warm and elated simmered in your stomach, and you beamed at him. “I’m glad because I wanna marry you too.” But before you could get too caught up in the moment, you remembered your earlier thoughts. “I don’t want to push you in any way, though, or make you commit to anything before you’re ready because marriage is kind of a big deal, and I’m happy to wait. Spencer Reid, I’d wait for you forever.”
“I don’t want to wait.” He shook his head and began digging in his pocket. 
Your eyes widened in shock and spluttered, “Spence, seriously, if you’re not ready—”
“I am ready.” Finally, he found it and pulled out a small velvet box, looking you dead in the eye. “(Y/N/N), I have been planning this for so long because I wanted it to be perfect for you. You deserve nothing less than the absolute best, and I wanted to give that to you.”
His admission gave you pause. “Wait, you’ve had this planned?”
“I’ve been planning this for months! This isn’t me trying to fumble around and fix my mistake. I have a binder and everything, you can ask Derek. That’s the only reason I said no!”
“You said no because you had a binder for your proposal plan?” you teased.
You both broke out into laughter at that.
Recovering his breath and trying to suppress his ever-growing grin, he said, “No, that’s not why. The only reason I said no earlier is because I needed to show you how much I wanted to say yes. You deserve the best, you deserve every star in the sky and every beautiful thing on this earth, and I wanted to make sure I gave that to you when we decided to spend the rest of our lives together because I want to be enough for you.” Trying to swallow around the slug in his throat, he continued, voice breaking slightly. “This is me giving you all the love I have to offer. You’re it for me, (Y/N). And frankly, I don’t want to spend another second without you.”
He settled on one knee and opened the box, looking up at you with the gentlest gaze and a pounding heart. The wetness of your eyes matched his, and you gave him a watery smile. “I’m saying yes now. I would really, really like to marry you, (Y/N/N), if you’ll still have me.”
“Of course, you absolute dork.” Yanking him up from the ground and grinning like a madman, you grabbed his face and pulled him in for the messiest kiss. He clutched your waist and held you as close as he could possibly manage. (His desire to never be parted seemed to be coming to fruition in the sort of melding of bodies that was occurring.) Clashing teeth and knocking noses, it was hard to settle things when neither of you could stop beaming. Overwhelmed by the complete and utter joy bubbling up in his chest, Spencer hugged you tightly before spinning you in a circle, both of you devolving into boisterous giggles. 
“Wait,” he murmured. “I forgot to give you the ring, I still need to seal the deal!” To which, you responded with another peal of laughter (something he thought he would never tire of hearing), as his trembling fingers floundered for the ring.
“I’m pretty sure that’s not how it works, but I’ll take it either way.”
He finally secured, and taking your hand in his ever so gently tenderly, he slid a glimmering emerald on your finger. 
“Oh, Spencer, it’s beautiful.” He let out a sigh of relief. With light confusion, you asked, “What’s the sigh for, handsome?”
“I know you wanted a special ring, but when I went ring shopping with Derek, there was nothing I thought you’d like, so I special-ordered one from this shop that was going to be your size and everything, but that ring wasn’t going to be ready for a couple weeks. So today, when I knew I had to propose tonight, I ran to that vintage store you love and came across this one, and I thought you’d like it, but I wasn’t sure it was gonna fit, and—”
“I love it,” you looked at him, trying to will him to understand the depth of your sincerity. “And it fits perfectly!”
“How serendipitous.” He thought his face was going to split in half, he was smiling so wide. He couldn’t stop looking at the ring on your finger. How could one silly little rock make tears well in his eyes? Nonetheless, the sight of it made his heart race and his stomach churn with unrepentant butterflies because looking at it, he knew the girl he loved more than anything else on the planet, his favorite person had chosen to spend the rest of her life listening to his rambles and laughing at his jokes and sitting next to him by the pond in the park. The listless dream that had seemed so hopeless and romantic finally came to fruition in that shiny green stone, so no, he would not stop staring. 
“Indeed,” you mused, subtle and irresistible risibility fizzing in the silence that followed. You contemplated for a moment before asking, “What do we do now?”
A thoughtful frown graced his lips, and then he shrugged. “We have the museum until midnight. We could just wander for a bit.”
Your eyes widened to the size of dinner plates and you tugged on his sleeve, your excitement palpable. “I’ve always wanted to be in a museum when no one’s around at night! Oh my god, Spencer, it’s just like Night at the Museum!”
He quirked a brow, and a sly smirk turned up the corners of his mouth. “Does that mean I have to protect you when the dinosaur skeletons come to life?”
You scoffed, “Please, we both know that I’d be the one protecting you.”
Another devolution into giggling. It seemed to be your thing tonight.
“Fair enough.” 
“Also, do we get to keep all of these plants?” His eyes remained glued to your flushed face as you peered around the room. He wasn’t ashamed to admit just how besotted he was, shamelessly beaming at his fiancée. 
“I bought them for you, so yeah.”
“Sick! Our apartment’s gonna turn into a little greenhouse!”
He extended a crooked arm to you, to which you looped yours in his and proceeded to set off on your museum adventure. You learned your head on his shoulder as you walked, completely and perfectly and incandescently happy.
“Hey, Spence?”
“Yes, dear?”
“I love you very much.”
“I love you too, dear.”

Chapter 18: Back to Santa Monica

Nick’s poor attempt at muffling his own hiss went unnoticed when Callie gripped his hand with a hold that could challenge an Orc’s, her forehead coming to press against his paling knuckles, gritting her teeth through the pressure.
“I’m sorry, I know these are awful,” Dr. Sangui sympathized, her hands and eyes busy behind the screen of the thin cloth draped between Callie’s knees.
“Mhm-” Callie tried to remain composed, but Nick could see the bands of muscle straining along the entire length of her legs propped up in the stirrups.
“Okay, aaand,” her doctor made quick work of her hands, followed by a few metallic clicks. “We’re done,”
Callie exhaled, her knees slapping together, whispering a soft, shy apology to Nick when she caught him shaking the blood back into his hand. He shrugged it off so she wouldn’t dwell, helping her sit up.
“Do you two have your bags packed yet?” Dr. Sangui asked after dropping the speculum into the sink and rolling towards them.
Nick snorted. “No,”
Callie flicked his hand.
“Well I think you may wanna keep them in the car, honestly. You’re about 70% effaced,” she grinned at Callie, instantly recognizing the excitement rising in her big eyes.
“What’s that?” Nick asked, feeling a little excluded from all the smiles.
“She could go into labor any day now,”
Nick’s poise flickered through a wide range of emotions just as his ears did, blindly reaching for Callie’s thigh to squeeze, but she was sure that although he would go on to tell her it was for moral support on her part, he was actually supporting himself so he didn’t fall forward onto his face.
“So he’s full term?” he cracked, grimacing at the betrayal of his voice.
“Right now his growth equates to a human baby at 36 weeks, at that stage we don’t stop labor if it comes. Callie’s body is showing all the right signs of labor preparation so I feel comfortable saying yes, he’s full term and you should have a little boy in your arms any day now,” her smile had started to break through her words, and by the time she finished, Callie was pressing her fingers over her own wide smile.
“Any day?” Nick repeated, the telling placement of his hand on his chest alerting Callie that he was leaning into breathlessness
“Yes sir, so pack those bags,” she scolded. “If you don’t have anymore questions or concerns I can get your paperwork organized and send you two on your way to get all the sleep you can.”
“Yes!” Callie clasped her hands together. “What secrets do you have to start labor?”
“I wish I had some,” Sangui frowned. “And while we’re at it, I'd like to go over our plan once more,”
“My natural birth plan?”
Nick’s glance up at her was one of annoyance; he didn’t understand why she had to be so hard-headed about this.
“Your back-up plan,”
“Assuming I even need one because I’m going to push him out,” Callie was frolicsome as ever, but her refusal to even consider the possibility of anything going south was worrisome. How would she handle the labor if it did go south?
“Seeing you wholeheartedly believing in yourself thrills me, but I need to hear you say you understand the importance of it, please . I don’t want any confusion if the time comes,”
Callie exhaled, choosing to look away from her doctors hardened, and seasoned stare. “I understand,” she established clearly, her mood having plummeted a little. “When can I cancel the c-section?”
“The second Leo is out,” she promised. “And a little personal advice from a mother of five,”
Nick’s eyes widened. Five!?
 “Walk. Walk as much as you can and let gravity do its job,”
“That’s it?” Callie muttered in disbelief.
Sangui nodded enthusiastically. “Tried and true method of evicting those little things,”
Callie looked at Nick who in turn shrugged. “Of all things,”
“Just please, whatever you do, don’t use castor oil. I cannot stand to see another baby go to ICU,” Dr. Sangui pleaded, the familiar grief lining her expression telling all the heartache she’d endured from such unfortunate events.
“I’ve heard horror stories,” Callie agreed, and once again Nick was left in the dark as he waited for some kind of hint to be provided
“Listen to them. Okay! Let me go grab your papers and you two can get going!” She chimed happily, patting Nick’s shoulder as she passed and left the room.
Callie always giggled when Nick took it upon himself to help pull her shorts up her legs, tugging them up her thighs once she was standing despite her half-hearted attempts at shoving him away. When it came to the spandex band that covered the curve of her low stomach, he’d step away knowing she liked to fold it over a particular way.
The black tank-top was pulled down, already fanning her cheeks and tossing her hair off her shoulders. A deep flush dusted her freckled cheeks, one the brisk AC didn’t even harpen.
Nick gazed up at her, admiring. Like the first time he’d looked up at a police officer at six years old, eyes wide and sparkling in wonder, he now found himself stuck in the same predicament, unable to pull from the force keeping him there. This time however, he gravitated towards it instead of ducking shyly behind his father.
His strong hands came to hold her thigh, his forehead resting there also.
It had started to hit him while basking under the warm beams of her smile; the realization that soon his world that revolved around Callie would shift, and Leo would become the center.
There were times he’d wake from hazy dreams of finding Callie sitting in their bed, whispering in mystifying talk down at her arms where little hands grabbed blindly, and where even softer cries would bring him towards her despite feeling fear heavy his feet.
Nick took a composing breath, his hands squeezing her thigh steadily. Callie’s own came to caress the back of his head and neck, but with her global stomach in the way, she couldn’t lean down to kiss him into a tranquil state. She hoped her touch gliding across his wide shoulders that expanded with deep inhales did something for him like his comforting aura so often did for her when she found herself in a panic.
Now that the power of his night terrors were failing to do harm, they seemed to switch their assault on his wakefulness the closer they came to meeting Leo. The fluttering excitement was stirring, slowly simmering into fear, the steam clouding his eyes and leaving him in a confused haze.
 What do I do if he doesn’t stop crying? How often can I hold him? What if he hates me?
Fatherhood was just around the corner, but there wasn’t much even she could do to prepare him, and the questions would likely remain unanswered until the time came for him to simply go through the motions of learning their son.
He’d started to absentmindedly draw designs across her thigh where the shorts didn’t reach, his head tilted and staring from behind his sunglasses at the woman who struggled to pay her parking ticket at the gate.
“How hard is it to press a button and swipe a card?” Callie chastised, shifting uncomfortably in her seat.
Nick shook his head. “Not like we need to be anywhere today,”
“Ross is calling and the heat is cooking me,” she whined, rallying a chuckle from him.
“Maybe it’ll bake him a little faster,”
“You got your oven mitts ready?” she cracked, and he laughed again.
The remnants of his smile lingered once looking back to the car ahead of him, his ears twitching when an alluring idea came to the forefront of his mind. “Do we have anything planned for dinner?”
Her eyes momentarily bounced around as she squinted, finally exhaling, “Nope,”
Nick grinned. “Date night?”
“Mm? What’ya have in mind?” she smiled when resting her chin in her palm and laying her phone in her lap.
“How about Santa Monica?”
Her smile wavered here and there between a scowl. “Last time we were there we got in that fight ,”
“That was last time,” Nick sighed.
“I know, okay, I just…” she fidgeted, halting her drumming fingers. “That was just a shitty day,”
Nick reached into her lap to smoothly scoop her hand into his, their fingers twining when he kissed the back of her hand, his eyes on the road as they finally made their way from the parking lot. “You know I’ll be sorry forever,”
 “Callie open the fucking door!”
The heel of her palms stayed pressed against her eyes when she shook her head, leaned forward into her own lap. “Go away Nick,” she croaked, sniffling.
“Open the door!” he bellowed, his palm coming to hit the window sill of the passenger side door.
“Fuck off! Just leave me alone!” she screamed, fresh hot tears staining her cheeks.
“I’m not going until you fucking talk to me!”
“ I don't wanna talk !” she sobbed, and continued to scream as he yanked animalistically against the handle, the truck swaying side to side. “Nick stop before someone calls the cops!”
“I don’t fucking care!” he bellowed, truly uncaring of the strangers amongst the crowds coming in and out of the piers parking lot that had stopped to watch him beat wildly against the truck. “Now open the fucking door so we can go home!”
“ NO !”
She screamed when his lightning fast strike was enough to crack the window, the soft splintering filling the silence between them now as she looked at his heaving form that looked back in shock from his own outburst.
“I know,” she used the back of her knuckles to rub his chin before he held her thigh so she could have her hand back.

“About to pop then?” she asked, and although Callie nodded and snaked her arm behind Nick again with a nonchalant smile to match, she wanted out of that conversation immediately.

It was surprising how easily he found parking this time of day, and so close, but before he could even turn off the truck, he was staring at Callie again, more notably her downcast eyes and hands toying listlessly in her lap.
“Callie,” he sighed.
“Hm?”
“Talk,”
She pursed her lips, looking at him with glossy eyes. “You never mentioned her before,”
Nick’s expression turned horrified. “Why’re you crying?”

“Why didn’t you ever mention her?” she questioned. “I’ve sat and talked about your exes with your mom and that one never came up,”
“She wasn’t an ex,” he intoned, resting back in his seat and turning the engine off.

With a shrug she said, “I’m positive none of them would even come up if you were standing next to me,”

Nick’s leer was menacing. “You really wanna go there?”

“Are you okay?” he asked again, his hand smoothing the back of her head.
Callie nodded, the rampant thoughts diminished and Leo rousing lively after hearing his father speak. “I’m sorry,” she again said softer.
There was only a shake of his head before he closed the space between them, his lips meeting hers for confident, full kisses that made her cheeks warm. Before she could even continue he was bringing her forehead against his, holding her steadfast, vanquishing all of the fear if only for a few seconds. Her grip on his wrists was tight, but he knew it was out of fear, not repulsion, and his unwavering support was what she’d need now and until she pushed this baby out despite fearing it would be ripped from her grasp like the ones previous.

She smiled, weakly, but it was still something. He kissed her head when it dropped, allowing her the minutes she needed to compose herself before they’d once again step before his parents and tell them she was expecting.
“It feels like yesterday,” he mumbled, his mottled finger following Leo.
“I didn’t think I could do it,” she admitted carefully, shame filling those big caramel eyes when meeting Nick’s bewilderment. “My body’s never been reliable,”
He couldn’t argue that. Between miscarriages and endless medicated routines that turned Callie’s body sour, the ornery temper of her womb would always seem to flare up when she least needed it.
“Baby?” he called, shrugging off his bag by the door and hanging his keys. He pushed down Pucca who excitedly pawed as his hip, shoving her wide head under his hand with a series of high-pitched whines.
“Where’s mama?” he played, but the sudden spin and glance over her shoulder Pucca shot back at him brought his teasing manner down. Nick furrowed his brows as he looked down at Pucca’s perked ears and straight as an arrow tail.
“Where’s mama?” he asked again, beelining after her when she took off down the hall, her nails ripping across the carpet.
The blood assaulted his senses before he even made it to Callie’s aid, curled up in bed under the sheets.
Pucca started barking beside her, whining when Nick whipped the sheet away to lay bare the blood pooling beneath her.
“Cal-” he gasped, Pucca continuing to cry beside them.
The stench of sickly blood still laid vivid in the meadows of his mind no matter how he fought to forget it’s odor, but a quick, and comforting look at her stomach swelled beautifully with his healthy baby brought him back from the darker corners of his mind.
“Ready to eat?” he asked.
“Yep.” She nodded, thankful to be steered away from those memories.
Nick was there as always to help her down from the high seat, his hold at her sides unmoving until she was steady and clear headed. His daily attentiveness reminded her of the faith she held in him, knowing the same strong arms that so guarded her would be where Leo would lay safely, cradled and shielded from any harm.
As she looked up at him with their hands joined, listening to him speak about the ambiance of the outside bar he wanted to sit at, she knew he’d share his thoughts and lessons with their son throughout his life, confident that the same excitement that glimmered in his eyes would grow brighter once he looked into Leo’s inquisitive eyes.
Nick took notice to her quiet stares, her brows furrowed every so slightly as she gazed, and listened, a hand rested over her stomach once sat under the warm lights lining the patio like stars.
“What?” he scoffed, his curiosity growing when she shook her head, but gave him that toothy, crooked grin.
“I just like listening to you talk,”
“Even after all these years?”
“I can’t wait to hear you talk to Leo,” she wavered, batting her glossy eyes.
Nick waved his hand, leaning his cheek into his palm shyly when she smiled adoringly at him.
But did she know how excited he was to see her with Leo in her arms? To at last give her what she’d fought for? To be lulled by the soft lullabies he knew she was saving for her son, and watch her admire the tiny hands she’d soon be able to kiss?
Nick stared at her now much in the same way she did, his heart hammering and his quiet breaths unsteady.
Could he keep her forever? Would her overflowing love for Leo leave room for him after all he’d put her through to get here?
He swallowed, smiling off her soft accusation of staring, his eyes diverting to the menus before them.
His eyes roamed over the words, but his heart was directing his attention to the question he’d wanted to hear her scream yes to that first time he’d ever spoken of his desire to make her his wife.
“They’re gonna like you,” he buoyed, snatching her hand to kiss her fingers.
“Says the one who told me how vicious your mother was when she met your other girlfriends,” she whined.
“You’re different,”
“Oh yeah? How?”
Nick sat up, inclining to kiss her sweetly once before saying, “I didn’t plan to marry any of those other girls,”
It didn’t register right away, but when it did, he saw the gravity of his words flicker across her face. First it was a loose smile, then the furrowed brows, them pure confusion, all making him smirk.
“What?” she croaked.
“You heard me,”
She situated better, scooting closer. “How’re you so confident after everything that’s happened? You never once thought we were hopeless?”
“Sure, but I never stopped feeling it. No matter what I did it’s been the same since I first saw you. Hit me like a bullet to the heart,” he explained, witnessing the glaze move over her eyes.
“Wh-” she cleared her throat when her voice cracked severely, moving her hair behind her ears. “Why?”
“Why wouldn’t I?”
“Cause of the shit you’ll get for wanting to be with someone like me,”
He blew air. “I don’t give a fuck what anyone says, even if it’s our families. And it doesn’t have to be soon, hell it can be on our deathbeds, but no matter what, I’m gonna marry you one day Callie. Even if we’ve only known each other so briefly, and some of it was apart, I can’t fathom a life without you,”
She blinked away the moisture in her eyes. “You’re so sure you wanna spend that long with me?”
“Are you asking me, or yourself?” he questioned, leaning on a hand closer to her. “If you don’t want to spend that long with me, it’s okay-”
“I’m asking you. I know what I want, but do you?” she asked softly.
He kissed her again, resting his forehead against hers. “I want forever with you. Everything about you-”
“My anxiety?”
“Callie-”
“I can never give you a family,” she grieved, but he hushed her, kissing her silent.
“Anything, everything, always. You can’t scare me away,” he laughed, and so did she.
Nick glanced around. Could I do it here? There were only a few more patrons filling up the patio that late afternoon, individuals that hadn’t even given the odd couple second glances.
He looked back to Callie, leaned to the side and going on about Leo favoring her left side the past few days.
 I don’t have a ring.
That smothered his flame some, but the thought of Callie not being his in every sense possible made his heart ache, even if she was branded with his mark and carried his scent.
He gazed at the smile that had made his heart thunder to life that first time all those years ago, the freckles he’d once counted as she slept tangled in his hold. Her big eyes that twinkled with life, even in the dark.
Callie’s soft ranting about the price of an enchilada dish halted when her hand was suddenly enveloped by his on the tables surface, and as soon as she found the bubbling, skittish fear in his eyes, somewhere deep down in her heart, she knew what was coming.
“Callie-”
“Hey there! My name is Kim and I’ll be helpin’ you two out tonight,” the cheery, short statured waitress popped up, laying down coasters. “Can I start you two off with any Liquid Marijuanas or Mai Tai’s? Maybe a bottle of Black Sky for you sir?”
“Uh-” Callie started.
“Woops! Or maybe some waters? Fresh horchata? Jamaica?”
“Can we have time to look at the menu?” Nick stopped her, his agitation growing.
“For sure! I’ll swing by in a few minutes!” and Kim was off, pacing towards the next table.
Nick exhaled bitterly, letting go of her hand to open his menu again in preparation.
“What were you gonna say?” Callie asked, eyes hopeful and waiting.
 Not now, not here. I’ll take the signs. “If you minded if I drank a little,” he grinned.
The mild disappointment in her tone when she replied made him wonder if she knew what had been coming, and if she’d been hopeful for it.
Callie acted nonchalant when she leaned back in her chair, quickly changing subjects and not really letting a word in otherwise, but he understood. He knew it was so she didn’t have to argue with her own thoughts and emotions of hidden embarrassment.
Suddenly the dinner felt like it’d take too long, but a quick reminder of their last date they’d ever have as just Nick and Callie settled that impatience.
If the time he would ask could be perfect, he’d wait.
But once the food came and went, his nerves grew.
When they finally raised from their seats after talking for what felt like hours, lost in one anothers smiles and soft caresses across their hands, he found his hands starting to shake.
The sky was melting into waves of oranges and purples, glowing over the crashing waves she wanted to sit in the sand before. Nick held their shoes in one hand and hers in the other, wobbling over the warm sand until they found a spot close to the shoreline.
He made sure she was safely nestled before flopping down behind her, his legs on either of her sides and arms coming to wrap around her cool arms, her thick hair wisping in the cool breeze under his chin.
She reclined into his chest, gently shh-ing Leo when Nick brought his vivacious side out, both of them chuckling when his touch was kicked away.
Their voices and conversation dimmed with the setting sun, Callie’s heavy eyes lingering on the thin wash of water that crept up and down the beach.
Sometimes she could still hear Pucca barking and running through the shallow water, uncaring of what child she mowed down in her efforts to chase her ball. Callie didn’t think she’d ever get over the absence of her deceased companion. Her bed still sat by the hallway entrance, her bowls still below the bar.
She turned her shoulders to press her face into Nick’s chest, curling into a tighter ball.
His firm hold around her frame stirred a content moan, goosebumps firing up her arms where his hand rubbed up and down.
Nick released a steadying breath low enough to go unnoticed, opening his eyes after his small pep talk that now felt foolish. Nothing would help with this intense fluttering in his gut except her final answer, whether it be what he wanted or not.
“Callie?”
“Hm?” she lifted her nose to press under his chin.
He blinked away the heartbeat behind his eyes, licking his dry lips. “Will you marry me?”
Callie looked up at him now, and he worried she’d heard the shake in his breath after asking, but the beaming smile shining up at him after some visible tension had fallen off her shoulders made him laugh nervously, his brows starting to furrow when she didn’t answer right away.
“Yes, yes- I want to be your wife,” she sighed, her grip already moving to his broad chest.
Nick felt his heart vault back between his ribs from his stomach, a loud exhale making her laugh when she realized he’d been holding his breath.
“Did you think I’d say no?” she asked against his mouth when he started peppering her face with kisses.
“I did,” he groaned apologetically. “Every time I brought it up you seemed to hate the idea,”
“What!?” she exclaimed. “Nick I’ve wanted to marry you since we first got back together, but I didn’t trust myself to remain the person you fell in love with if I would’ve kept losing babies, especially Leo,”
“Why would I stop loving you for that?”
“I don’t doubt you, but I don’t know if you would’ve been able to live with the person I could’ve become, regardless of how much you love me. I didn’t want to disappoint you anymore,” she explained sullenly.
She tried to look down despite his hands angling her face up, pressing her cheek into his palm bashfully.
“You’d be doing me the honor of being my wife, because I don’t deserve someone as brave, and strong and fucking gorgeous as you”
“Nick stop,” she wept, his hands bringing her back when she shook her head.
“I don’t deserve you but you’re my other half, Calista. I’m not me without you. You’re my best friend, and my home. You’re my fucking girl,” his voice had started to shake again, his brows arched in annoyance that he couldn’t remain composed, but her lips sealed his when there was no more to be said. Without words she calmed the torrid emotions, reassuring that he hadn’t made a mistake in asking for her hand.
She promised she’d excel the ideal image of a wife just as he did when he swore her everlasting protection and devotion, and together they vowed the home for Leo, the love, patience, and everything else they would surround their son with as he came into this world and grew.
When their tears had dried and he again kept her tight against his chest, his flannel removed and draped over her body, she started to giggle to herself until he leaned back to look at her in question.
“You couldn’t have asked before we ran into your ex fuck buddy so you could introduce me as your fiancée?” she smiled playfully.
“Do you want me to scream it in case anymore are around?”
Her smile dissolved. “More?”
“I’m joking.” he grinned, blocking her hits against his arms and chest until he got his arms around hers to continue smothering her with kisses.

☾*✧・゚:*「 lee hoseok ( wonho ). transmale. he/him. 」did you know that there’s a human in seoul named hyun jitae? they have been here for their entire life and they are an officer. they are currently twenty-five and is not a part of the ju jak and does know about the magi. i heard that they are known to be pugnacious, but worry not ! i heard they are also very stalwart too. remember to stay out of trouble, the magi are lurking around every corner ! ( markus, nineteen, he/him, cst. )

so, let’s start from the beginning, where all full stories rightfully have to. born to a hunter and housewife, he was the third of three children and was the first girl of the family.  his innocence could only last so long with the corruption in his bloodlines, an ancestry of hunters stretching many years through the hyun family and long standing supporters of the ju jak cause. it was a poison that was passed down to each generation when they matured and he would be no different.
his parents had been fairly lax, bringing his twin brothers up, two years his senior, but they toughened up when he was born. jitae was expected to be their picture-perfect child, ideally one who would marry into another family of hunters to keep the lineage going, seek out magi and do as he was told. from a young age, a gender divide was very much enforced upon him ; he was told that pink was for girls, blue was for boys and all the other ridiculous stereotypes. he wasn’t allowed to play with his brothers’ toys, even though he clearly had a much higher interest in them. they insisted on having him wear skirts, even though all he really wanted to do was steal his brothers’ shirts.
his father was always far too busy to be emotionally involved with anything he was up to, his mother, though she held the same ideals as his father did, was much more encouraging – even when he seemed to only want to throw mud outside with his brothers or spend his time sat quietly maneuvering small bugs around his hands. life seemed easier then, and if you ever were to ask he’d like to come back to here, the fragile and comfortable age of five.
at nine, he officially ditches his full name and takes on the shorter, snappier shortening of it, blatantly ignoring anything else. he also ditches a lot that was forced onto him, and begins to slowly tarnish the image that has been built around him – the first step in that is cutting off long, brilliant locks with a pair of safety scissors. ( he’s grounded for a solid month for that particular endeavor after a rather long beating, but they at least take him to a barber to clean up the botched job. )
up until he was about thirteen, the veil over his eyes remained. he’d always been warned to not get to curious what his father got up to in the late hours of the night, or why his brothers always went with him. up until then – and then shit starts to hit the fan when he is thrown head first into long training sessions. he finds comfort in ripped jeans and stolen shirts, cardigans and hoodies have become his safety net. at least, he surmises, he has this one thing that he could have for his own. ( even that was something borrowed, snagged from his brothers’ closets. )  his mother seems to catch on, discreetly leaves recently bought t-shirts sprinkled within his wardrobe. he dyes his hair blonde for a few months, not without strong opposition, before returning to his natural black – he’s experimenting, more than anything else, wants to smash as many of the buttons set in front of him as possible and come into his own instead of the mold he was crammed into. teacher often being an older cousin, or his elder brothers the days his father will allow, endurance and agility training quickly become his daily after-school activity. knives and hand-to-hand combat were his favorite though, each unfortunate mistake earned him a new nick or a bloodied lip when he wasn’t quite fast enough. wasn’t quite good enough. ( even though he resented his father, he wanted him to be proud. )
at fifteen, he starts sneaking out with his elder brothers whenever they can manage. instead of paying attention to their father’s long lectures on preparation and being adaptable, the three sit outside and complain together. his brothers smoke cheap cigarettes that they buy with their minimum wage ; he steals a drag here and there, and makes his brothers swear not to tell. ( he doesn’t really care if they do, though. maybe hopes that they did. )  gets much too competitive during short spars and more than satisfied when he can manage to beat any of his older relatives.
seventeen brings a new form of rebellion, but most notably confusion about his identity. his brothers wholeheartedly accept his requests to refer to him by jitae but his father remained adamant and bigoted in his ways. outbursts aimed at him became frequent, to be dubbed unfit for the family had brought more than feelings of rage within jitae but snapped something he didn’t know he had. halfway through that seventeenth year, he’s arrested for defacing of property. ( he may or may not have painted profanity in bold red letters on some unsuspecting victim’s vehicle. ) in homage to his first arrest, many long summer days spent doing community service.
at eighteen, it seems as if all the world’s anger has seeped into his body. where mischief and joy once lingered, pure hatred for the situation around him blackens his entire being. he starts getting into fistfights, and comes home ( more often than not ) at three in the morning. if his parents wanted to disown him before, they’re on the verge of it now ; they can’t stand who he has become, and it all comes to a very ugly head when he brings a girl home and his parents find out.
everything seems to click into place, somehow working in his favor that makes even his nihilism fall silent. his father gives up the prospect of the short fuse having any use as a hunter, and that’s his chance and he takes it. flees their family home with well wishes from his older brothers who offer him a hand, an out. he politely declined, his pride always more prominent that the two combined. he lives in something like peace, it’s quiet and almost maddeningly so but he maybe can equate that to comfort. eventually manages to get access to hormone therapy, taking up a job as a cashier for some local understaffed business that was understaffed. he manages, daily phone calls to his concerned mother who’s always sure to tell him that his father still does love him. ( fat chance, he’d always butt in before she can finish the phrase. )  
easing into a monotonous pattern of life comes with great difficulty but he does manage, heads to the gym near religiously everyday to work away any stresses. learning to loosen when strangers smile at him, even smiles back some days. things were fine, a little rough but fine. he’s on the cusp of twenty-four when he gets the call from his hysteric mother, his father has been killed. things.. things change then. he heads back home because he cannot abandon his mother there and leave grief to eat away at her. ( like slipping on an old glove- it fits perfectly yet it was unfamiliar. he thinks maybe this is how life truly spits in his face. ) what comes next can only be described as a domino effect.
he takes up the torch, when he knows he shouldn’t and even with the reasoning voices of his brothers. he had fallen back into the cavern he worked so hard to crawl out of, a stout pillar of the ju jak standard all over again. he is certain he doesn’t have the strength to make the climb up a second time. he keeps a pistol holstered to his thigh, a trained eye on everyone around him. heavy circles are a stain under his eyes, the scars that litter the canvas of his body remind of a past almost escaped. ( something screams that this is what he was made for, BORN FOR. NOW HERE’S THE KICKER ; he knows that once he slips, he will not rise & will only greet depravity like an old friend. )
but he doesn’t. with the reappearance of a certain elder hyun, the decision to drop his role as a hunter, fall from the ju jak emerges and it doesn’t take much deliberation on his part. he leaves, abandons the cause and everything he once stood for. (  thought he stood for; CONVINCED himself he stood for. )  joins the police to stand alongside his older brother.
personality-wise ? he’s STILL an absolute shit most of the time, pretty abrasive. y’know, rubs just about everyone and their grandmother the wrong way. he’s aggressively opinionated and he’ll break your goddamn nose if you try to pull any shit on him or his loved ones.
curses like an absolute sailor.. every other word is likely a swear.

You love Peter Parker, and he was a not so subtle crush on you, the only problem is that he’s your best friend’s ex.

Peter subconsciously pulled at the ends of his sleeves. Your father’s menacing glare piercing through him.
“Peter” your father simply said, not really to greet.
“Sir,”  Peter wiped his hands on his jeans. If there’s one thing that he learned over the years it was that your father is kinda old fashioned in the way that demanded respect. A firm handshake and mannerism, lord help the boy that broke her heart.
Peter was the boy who broke your heart this time. He should’ve known that you would’ve told your dad about what happened, probably not going into some much detail, but just enough for your father to know that your sadness was caused by Peter Parker.
“Is (Yn) here?” Peter tried as hard as he could to not let his voice show the nervousness inside.
“She’s here.” Your dad looked Peter up and down, if Pete was crazy he said that your father was sizing him up.
“Could I talk to her?” As nervous as he was, patience wasn’t something that Peter had mastered. He was frustrated. Frustrated at himself for walking out on you. Frustrated at May and Ned, who seem to think that their advice about his feelings are better. Frustrated that your dad was so menacing and tall and basically bigger than him in every way.
“Give me one good reason why I should let you talk to my daughter.”
Those words hurt, Peters not gonna lie. Of course, he deserved that, if he was in your father’s place, he would be just as angry, maybe even angrier.
“Dad, stop.” Came a small voice from behind the wrestler of a father. “Let him in.” It was you, wearing considerably comfortable clothing. Made sense, as it was a Saturday.
Grudgingly, your father moved aside, letting Peter into the apartment. The living room/ kitchen smelled of bacon. Peter awkwardly stood in the living room, the semi-minimalistic set up mildly comforting him. It’s not he’s never been in your apartment, it was mostly an in and out trip. When you had to grab something from your room or forgot a charger before the group of friends were off to somewhere. If the three to five of them were lucky, your mom would be home and offer the teenagers some drinks or snacks. They always obliged to do so, it was polite.
Your father stood behind Peter, his arms crossed as he stared angrily at the back of Peter’s head.
“Hey dad,” you started, successfully getting the attention of the rhino of a man you called a father. “Would it be alright if me and Pete talk alone for a bit?”
“It’s ok, whatever Peter says, he can say it to the both of us.” Your father's usual mellow voice coming through, a tone that he only took with you and your mother.
Despite the change in tone, Peter’s eyes widen. He could never, ever, confess his love for you in front of your dad. The thought alone of rejection stung him from within, but adding your dad to the mix, he would surely burst into flames of embarrassment.
“Dad. This is important, just stay here and watch some of your Sense8 show thing well Peter and I talk in my room, please?” Peter noticed the slight change in your voice. The higher pitch surely meant you were begging.
Your father agreed, only if you left the door open. Which Peter understood, the whole ‘protective father’ trope still apparent.
The walk to your bedroom was short, but it felt like forever. The anxiety of it all finally washing over Peter. You sat awkwardly at your desk, the minimalistic theme still going in your bedroom, but with a few nick-nacks here and there, some Star Wars posters and even a map of the moon covering your walls. It was a teenager’s dream.
Peter sat on your be. It was a few minutes before someone spoke.
“I’m sorry.” Said Peter, wholeheartedly.  Your face showed that you were mildly confused, or angry. Peter wasn’t very good at reading people. “I shouldn’t have walked out like I did and-”
“Well, you did.”, the harshness of your voice cutting there Peter like butter. He visibly flinched.
“I know, which was such a dick move- and I justed wanted to apologize to you for leaving, I guess?”
“You guess? Peter, you left me there. I felt humiliated and confessed. Not to mention the fact that I literally just exposed my feelings for you, I mean, what was so important that you couldn’t just say no?” Tears were close to falling, which made Peter feel even worse. This was not the way that he planned this would go. You kept talking, but sadly, Peter didn’t listen. Too busy trying to sort his feelings.
Whether it was the frustration, the nervousness and almost definite signs of a nervous breakdown, or the confidence that caused the following outburst, but it happened.
“Dammit! Don’t you get it? I’m trying to tell you I love you!” This efficiently shut you up, your memorizing (ec) eyes widening. Peter looked you dead in the eye and stood up. “I’ve loved you since that first day of Freshman year.” Peter grabbed your forearms and stood you up, bringing you to his height, and there, in the middle of your bedroom, on any old Saturday. Peter kissed you.

Eventually, you two had to separate, the basic human need for oxygen interfering with your moment. You remember your mom telling you that your first kiss would be magical, and in a way she was right. I mean, the average human doesn’t share their first kiss with the person they had a crush on for almost 4 years.
The overall shook of the situation faded away, your brain switching back to reasoning. You looked up at Peter, whose face was in a goofy grin.
“And what about Tris?” out of any single phrase to come out of your mouth, you decided on that one. Which seems logical, she was the only person holding you back from asking out Peter.
“And what about her? She doesn’t matter.” Pete sighed, the string lights hanging around your room were dazzling in his eyes. “I know you girls have some sort of code, but in the words of Michelle, ‘its a 20th-century idea set up by men to put girls against each other’ fear of numbers or something like that”  His grip around your waist slightly tightening.
You laughed, the grin on Peter’s face spreading. There, you realized something;
You were absolutely in love with Peter Parker. Disgustingly adorable in love with him.
“So is this” you gestured around you two, “a thing?”
“Only if you want it to be.” He says, hope in his chocolate brown eyes.
“Of course, I want it to be” you smiled.
You pulled him down and brought your lips together once again.
The stress that came with a crush suddenly disappeared, the thoughts of Tris didn’t matter, even your Calculus final didn’t matter. All that mattered was that you were finally in a relationship with Peter.

Hey! Can I request a fic or HCs with doomfist, Lucio, and Hanzo with a crush on reader who has huge wings. Reader finds out after they take save them from a mission gone wrong. I want the reader to have their badass moments as well!
A/N: I had majors writers block with Hanzo’s part but I finally got it out.

Doomfist 
It had been a perfect plan. A simple mission with officialsin agreement for an exchange of information. Akande has seen it as a perfect opportunity-an easy opportunity- to raise the upper hand in Talon’s favor.
That is until a bomb went off.
The boom echoing in the sky faltered your flying as youturned back towards the large building the meeting was being held at. “It was a set up.” It sent a cold shiverup your body as you circled the building with vigilant eyes. The top floors were beginning to concave downward  and you knew you had to act fast.
“Location for extraction, sir?” There’s a crack followed by interference and static before he comes through again. “Akande, where are you?”
“23rd floor. I’m hit.” Swooping in lower, you can see each floor individually. Movement catches your eye and you immediately switch to fly straight towards the building.
“Prepare for emergency landing!” Doomfist catches your eye through tinted windows before tucking and rolling out of the way.
You burst through the window, glass gleaming like raindropsas it shatters from the impact.  The dimlights shadow your body as the moonlight illuminates you from behind. A darkangel crashing in from the night, leaving the men that surround Doomfiststunned.  You blink away the haze broughtfrom the rush of adrenaline as you spread your wings wide. The massive hole behindyou disappearing from view. With a massive surge of strength you send forth a largewhirlwind that sends the men propelling backwards and hard onto the surface ofthe walls and floors.  
With them out of the way, you quickly usher to Akande side. “Come on,” You eye the bloodthat stains his side and soot that covers his ruined tuxedo suit. “Hold ontight, I don’t know if I can lift you too well.” He places his arms around yourneck and on your shoulders. Locking them tight enough to stick to you but nonewhere it was constricting. You near the edge looking down a bit shakey at how big of a fall it could be,
“I know you can do it.” He speaks, albeit raggedly.
“That makes one of us.” You take a deep breath. A pull to jump forward andyou both take flight, wings spreading to out a bit unsettled to newly addedweight. Quickly, you recover whispering small assurances to yourself as youboth glide through the air.
The rendezvous point is a launch pad for the Talonhelicopter. Although, its missing appearance tells you it seems to be runninglate one of which makes you slightly worry. You land as gently as you can,setting Akande down with cation to his wounds. He limps slightly before fightinga suitable area to rest. You notice a deathly scowl painting his face as youfrown.
“Akande…” He slams his fist against the cement roofing withextreme force. The noise making you flinch slightly as it cracks loudly underhis knuckles. “I understand you’re upset but we all thought the circumstanceswere in our favor. You couldn’t have known.”
The man growls. “This incident, it could have been avoided.If only I had thought on it harder.” He digs his fist deeper with eyes baringhis obvious anger. “I don’t wish you to think any less of me.”
“Think less of you?” You raise a brow as he casts his gazetowards you. Your confused looked sets his nerves a little at ease. “Quitefrankly, I don’t think I can thinkless of you. You’re a very strong and intelligent man, Akande. One mistake isn’tgoing to make me think any differently.”
“You think very highly of me then.” His tone makes it sound morelike a statement than a question. It’s as if he’s amused?
“Of course I do.” You confirm with a slight ruffle of yourfeathers. “I care a great deal about you.”
He is silent for a moment before a chuckle vibrates at hischest. “It seems the feeling is mutual then.” Your brows furrow at the notionbefore shooting upwards. Akande, however, lifts to his feet. His stancestaggers slightly as the small airship begins to hover overhead.
“Wait, what do you mean by that?” You follow him shortlyafter. The man simply smiles -not a wicked chaotic grin but one that shows auncharacteristic fondness in his features. He leaves your question unanswered,boarding the ship when it comes to land.
Lúcio
Lúcio huffs, wall gliding as fast as he can from the groupof Talon agents that had surrounded him. He had ventured much further to securean objective than he’d meant to. With his comm busted and his team nowhere insight -the DJ is left to outrun the enemy or be over run.
Lúcio eyes a sharp corner, every intent to take it before anonslaught of bullets rains in his direction. He speeds himself up. So closethat his fingers graze the surface to adjust himself to make the turn. However,before he knows it, he is knocked off his feet and tumbling onto the unkindly rubble and gravel of the pavement. He groans at the new sensation of pain, a prominent feel of stinging as it had scraped his skin but he tries his best to remaincalm. Lúcio accesses the damage of the situation. A bullet has broken therunner of his skates to bits, leaving him unable to move as swiftly as he need be. While the fall has left his back and arms aching, his ankle hurts too much to move in what he assumes is a sprain.
He hears a number of curses. Talon agents lining to surroundhim with guns that strike fear into his very core. He braces himself for the inevitable.
“Incoming!” A yell from above calls the attention of goons. Afast approaching figure blocks the sun while a grin bursts upon the face of thesupport. He covers his face, knowing is his guardian angel has arrived.
The earth shatters beneath you. A power landing shaking the groundand sending a shockwave so strong it’s almost deafening. Instinctively, you’velanded akin to protect Lúcio from the blast. Long, slender wings wrappingaround the two of you precautionarily.
When the dust settles, Lúcio looks up. Your face is tiredyet steady as wings spread open and out unveiling the two of you. Your feathersare stiff. Obviously weary of enemies who were notcaught in your landing. Though, from what it seems, all the Talon goons havebeen knocked away and now lay unconscious. Suddenly, your attention is on Lucio.Scanning him for injury is as you move to lift him up and into your arms.
“Lúcio, are you alright?” The DJ simply stares at you in awe.Your skin is lightly dusted in sweat, a sun kissed glow illuminating you like adeity to his rescue. All that’s missing is a halo to add to your ethereal features.
“You’re amazing.” He remarks as you lift the support intoyour arms. He wraps his arms around your neck as yours hook behind his kneesand lower back.
You smile, giving him a playful pointed look. “Lúcio…”
“No, really! That was just-no, you were just-” He says, warmeyes bearing at you wholeheartedly. “The way you just dropped down and wipedthem out. That was amazing. You’re so amazing.” He glistens in admiration andfor a moment you forget where you are. The whole world gone before the two ofyou. The meaning behind his words hits you. A blush spreading across your face whileyour feathers puff out visually flustered.
“I-uh…oh.”
Lúcio’s face heats up a bit embarrassed. “I’m sorry… wasthat too much?”
“No! No!” You assure him, shifting his weight as you hearone of the Talon agent groan back to life. “I, uh, I think you’re amazing too!”You can see movement from the corners of your eyes. As much as you love to havethis moment, its time to jet. You prepare to fly, body and wings ready tolaunch back into the sky. “But I’m more concerned about getting us to safetyfirst, yeah?”
He smiles, a small grin that softens his features yet remindingyou how strikingly handsome he is.“Yeah, sounds good.” He holds on just a bit tighter as you take off. 
Hanzo Shimada
“Heads up!” Hanzo raises his arm upwards, threading hisother arm through his bow to rest it on his back. A giant mass of feathersswoops by and ,in seconds, lifts the archer off the ground and into the air. Hiskyudo-ji and hair ribbon flap against him as you two glide against the wind. Hishand grips tightly at your forearm as you shift the angle.  
“Are you alright? I had lost sight of you in the fight.” Heturns his head to look downward at the fast passing ground beneath the two ofyou. His hand tightening at your arm when he does so.
“I’m fine, Hanzo.” You assure him, taking your eyes of yourpathing to send him a gentle glance. The tense of his shoulder eases at yourwords but his grip remains strong.”Did you deal with the Talon agents?”
It seems that youranswer comes in the form of bullets and gunshots. The air shifting as they zoom right past you both.
“What the-” Your gaze falls down towards the ground as yourflight falters at the sudden scare. The hail of bullets fling and fly past you ratherharshly. Your body shifting to dodge and evade the pieces of metal that aim foryou and your companion.
“They called for backup?” Hanzo is just as shocked as youare. Though, with his bow threaded through the arm that holds onto you, he isrendered unable to fire back. You do your best to avoid them, trying to put asmuch distance as you can before a shot rings much louder than the rest. Apained sting nicks you rather hard on your wing, the ends of muscle screamingin pain. Your balance in the air falters and the safe altitude you flew throughbegins to drop significantly.
“Going to need an emergency landing!” You pull him up ontoyou with all your strength. His arms coming to wrap at your waist tightly asyou hold him from under his arms. There’s no time for questions as your wingsoverlap around the two of you to protect from the impact of the inevitable fall.“Hold on! We’ll be fine!” You yell, gaining speed towards. This wasn’t thefirst time you’ve fallen during flight, only the first with a passenger heldtightly in your arms.
The landing was anything but graceful. A prominent crackheard upon meeting the pavement with such momentum that it pulled the windright out of your lungs. You unfurled your wings as the dust settles and theground burns around you. From up top of you, arms still wrapped around yourwaist, Hanzo groans. He untangles promptly from your body and sits back assessinghis wounds. You sit up carefully with a pained moan which catches the attentionof your companion.
You don’t meet his eye; your attention solely shifted to wherethe pain is most prominent. The edge of your wing is twisted in angle soheinous that it’s obviously snapped broken to the both of you. Through clenchedteeth and a false smile, you speak up.
“It’s not as bad as it seems-”
“What were you thinking!” He booms, face twisted in angerand concern. His hands move to hover over your injury rather unsure of what todo. It hurts, as much as you deny it, but you definitely could have donewithout the added yelling.  The free fallhas your head still spinning and you make a mental note reminding you it has yetto be any fun in the slightest.
“Hanzo.”  A handpauses in front of him, the motion stopping him in his tracks. Immediately, hedrops to his knees to meet you at eye level. His body is covered in scrapes andbruises but -compared to you- he is alright. With that in mind, you try to makelight of the situation with a pained smile. “Look we’re both okay, right? Onebroken bone and a few cuts and scraped is better than a bleeding bullet woundor anything much worse.” He looks at you’re with pinched brows and troubled brown eyes.
“I did not want you to get hurt.” He mutters before fallingto sit beside you. “Not for my sake.”
“Hanzo…” You frown as the world finally comes into clear andyour head pain settles down. The wind flutters the appendage slightly causingyou to wince. “You can’t always prevent this sort of thing from happening.”
“But I must!” His voice has the same power of an accusation.It is a statement that means more to him than anything else. “If you can avoidinjury at my hand, then I must do what I can to prevent it.”
“Then the same goes for you!” You yell back with as much ferocity.“Who will watch your back when you’re too busy watching mine?” The Shimada isleft stunned before you sigh, not having meant to raise your voice at him. Yet,you can see where his shoulders fall with his gaze.
“I don’t want to lose you.” Its breathy and almost lost inthe gentle wind that blows over the rubble. “I care for you too much.” His gazeshows his heartbreaking at the mere thought and suddenly it clicks. A blushfalling to grace the cheeks of both you and archer.
Now it is you who is left stunned.
“Oi!” The sound shakes the both of you. “Where are you guys?We saw the crash but can’t exactly in point where you landed.” Tracer’s voicecomes through the earpiece rather distant and statically. Hanzo is fast respondas his finger flies to press at the communication device in his ear.
“We haven’t moved from the crash site, north of the buildingwe scouted.” He pauses as Tracer speaks again. “They are with me, yes. Theyhave a broken wing but I’m sure we can manage that much.” It silent as helistens intently to the information given to him. As quickly as the moments shifted,he is up on his feet.
“Tracer wishes for us to meet them half way to the dropship.”He coughs into his fist with subtlety. You glance at him as he extends hisother hand for you to take, adding a smile when you notice how flustered he’sbecome. Tentatively, he lifts you with ease. Only stopping when you hiss in painat the shift of the broken appendage. Your balance is messy as one side strugglesto handle the shifting weight of feathers and muscle. Hanzo places your armover his shoulder and holds you steady. “We…we will discuss what was said later,yes?”
“Thank you, Hanzo.” You mutter while leaning into him. He meets your eye and you grin rather reassuringly. “And yes, Iwould really like that.”
