Boy does this thing need a masterpost. Will work on that once I'm finished with this stuff (and to keep the sass under control. Yeah right, as if I'll manage. Good, I already lost, that's one less problem to take care of. One day I'll build myself an automatic sarcastic clapping box like GlaDOS. Goal in life, woo, I'm such a useful and productive member of society, wow.)

(The thing won't last five minutes within my sister's range.)

A-hem. Heaven.

Emily might have a whole freaking zoo of pets. I mean, have you seen the girl ? She's ex-aequo with Charlie on the "nicest person alive" podium (the fact that none of them is human isn't that surpri - shhh, cynism, shut up. I just got rid of sarcasm, don't you dare start it), and every doe-eyed kitten she'll meet will be added to the growing jungle (she has seraphim powers, I'm sure she's putting that reality-warping trick to good use) she has between dimensions. She'll name them all, remember each one, take her sweet time with cuddles and nuzzles, and will feed them all personally. She also loves grooming them. If someone good-hearted wants one, she'll gladly and regularly put them up for adoption, overjoyed that said critter will live its best life. Hurt pets tend to especially tug at her heart, and if anyone dares to harm one out of pettiness, she might bust out her true form and give them one hell of a verbal lashout.

Every vet appointment she'll go personally, and is very empathetic to each and every little beastie she has - any life is worth love. Unlike Charlie, who in the Pets 1 post I described as quite the normal owner, Emily will overcoddle the bejeezus out of each and every one of them, but knows to back off when it gets too much. For funny points, while she loves soft and cuddly animals, that would include stuff like tarantulas, bears and skunks, which she would nuzzle all day if she could - to Sera's consternation. I think even Charlie will be surprised by that one. If one dies (from natural causes), she'll be distraught and grieving, but accepts that death is a part of life.

Sera might have a personal pet in private, something autonomous and independent, regal and poised like her, but still cherish it. She'll be a normal owner, knowing that an animal is still an animal, but she'll do her best to suppress some instincts that she deems unbecoming or harmful. She mostly lets it be, but isn't against it climbing on her lap or flying around, as long as it doesn't make a mess. Might be a fan of actual big cats, like Heaven's version of pantheras, or, à la Sarah Bernhardt, cheetahs (which are easily stressed animals, so Sera's calm environment would help). She might also be fond of a sanctuary of butterflies, and naturally, songbirds, that she'll keep in a delimited space that they should not wander out of - gilded cage applied to a whole garden, unsurprisingly. While she might have more than one pet at once, she'll also supervise that any animal found will find its forever family (something Emily helps a great deal with, naturally).

She'll be quite serious and rigorous on maintaining vet appointments and healthcare for her pet(s), and just like Vaggie be naturally good at managing her pet's life, work and diet. Animal cruelty is severly reprimanded, she will make her displeasure known, and better not catch the offender in the act of hurting a critter ever again. Might leave the grooming to Emily, but a good brush down from time to time helps ease her own nerves and take a break from work. She might also confide in the pet, in secret, what she can't tell others, like Emily, basically having it also partially as some form of support.

Adam, well, will use any pet that reinforce his virility, and fail miserably at it because lions don't bother to do much, bears are too tiring to tame, he gets on the nerves of tigers and while gorillas would be on the list, he doesn't want others to think "like owners, like pets" concerning the other thing gorillas are known for (which is, well, being rather small in the neither regions). When someone cracks that he should try a donkey (which has the inverse problem), he'll turn it down because he doesn't want to be associated with an ass (and the irony is completely lost on him). He might have one turtle just for the sake of a crass joke (also it's very low-maintenance, and it escaped long ago due to his neglect and inattention, leading a better turtle-life in the home of another angel who adopted it), but let's say that he might have a soft spot for bunnies, especially hares, because they're badass and, you guessed it, very good at multiplying, which reminds him of his own performance as the First Man. However, his naming skills are the opposite of stellar (that's the man who gave Vaggie her name, what did we expect ?), and he constantly forgets to keep the cages locked, so there are more bun-buns (not those, dammit) in his home than Lady Tottington's castle at the end of Curse of the Wererabbit (Wallace and Gromit movie, it's quite fun). At one point, they all fled anyway.

Then one time he stumbled upon a honey badger, and its crackhead determination (wink at you, Casual Geographics) pleased him, so he took it with him as a pet. Or, closer to the truth : the thing invited itself and takes care of itself because Adam can't be bothered to try, being too self-absorbed. He won't harm it, but neglect is sure on the list, and the only reason the thing hasn't died yet is because it is very hard to kill. So basically it's Adam, and his honey badger roommate.

(Seriously, one does not fuck with honey badgers. That thing does not care about death, and it's known to attack animals ten times its size and bloody win. The thing can put itself in a coma to not succumb to highly venomous snakes and ultra-aggressive hornets, then pop back up awake as if nothing or almost happened. So again, dear mother of god and all her wacky nephews, one does not fuck with honey badgers. You'll have a better chance trying to go to Mordor and facing Sauron with a toothpick and wearing only diapers.)

For Lute, well. Another one I highly doubt will ever have a pet but once more, let's close our eyes, willingly ignore reality, maybe help the process with a good drink and that sugar-that-is-not-sugar added on top, and imagine a world where, against all common sense, Lute has a pet. Yes. Lute, having a pet. Okay. We can do this (Dang it feels as wrong as putting a bikini on Alastor. At least to me, I don't have much hopes for the rest of the Internet, let's be real). So. She'll probably have something highly active, bloodthirsty, something like a hound or a very ill-tempered big cat, but honestly, I would peg a lioness for her, because contrary to Adam's failure with lions, she would actually impress the thing enough that it lets itself be tamed and willingly joins her. But anyway, any pet that ends up with her, she'll render extra-aggressive and it's more of a fighting partner and second-hand 'man' than a companion for friendship, though she will deeply care about it and find a kindred spirit - even let Adam believe it obeys him so that he isn't butthurt (boy does this guy need to compensate).

She might not care much about other pets and animals (especially not hellish ones), and expects hers to tough it out on many things, but if it is hurt or dies, expect her to fly into a murderous rage fueled by grief and sorrow, with heavy mourning after - because despite everything, it was a close reciprocated bond, and it's not just an animal that has fallen, but devoted a comrade-in-arms. (Fuck that went sad fast.)

And for the last, St-Peter. A nice, kind, not-too-hyper pet might be a good match for him, he'll probably like a nice little canary, or anything that isn't too high-maintenance, but I can also see him flail behind a multi-leash of 20 neurotic ferrets and accidentally getting peed on when he isn't paying attention. I think he'll prefer a nice and tranquil pet still, maybe even have a thing for bugs, frogs and snails (they don't move much, it's all good), or even reptiles (for the complete irony, lizards and snakes). He'll be the one to dish interesting Animal Facts (TM) to anyone asking, panics at the first sign of the pet being sick, and keep it nice and cosy for the whole time it needs to recover. Another thing he might do is being a foster home for birds, especially those without parents nearby, teach them the bird way of life like how to fly, and release them once they've grown up enough. He'll never forget them, with lots of photo albums to remember them by (okay, that also went sad fast, but in a good way).

Lockjaw the Pet Avenger

This pupper’s mother was subjected to the mutagenic properties of the Terrigen Mist. As a result, Lockjaw and his littermate were bestowed super powers. Lockjaw grew into a massive form possessing greatly enhanced strength, cosmic awareness and the ability to teleport himself and others across vast distances, even between dimensions. Along with serving as watchdog to The Inhuman Royal Family, Lockjaw has additionally embarked on many adventures alongside countless heroes, including the Fantastic Four, Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man. He additionally helped form the mighty Pet Avengers! Lockjaw first appeared in Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #45 (1965).

Chewie the Flerken

Carol Danvers, the heroic Captain Marvel, was unaware that her pet cat, Chewie, was actually a powerful alien being known as a Flerken. The pocket dimensions these Flerken possess within them proved to be of great help during Captain Marvel’s adventures in space. A version of Chewie appeared in the Captain Marvel movie, renamed ‘Goose’ and portrayed by a quartet of tabbies named Gonzo, Rizzo, Archie and Reggie. Chewie first appeared in Giant-Size Ms. Marvel #1 (2006).

Bats the Ghost Dog

Bats was an aged basset hound who ended up in the care of Stephen Strange during the time he had become a veterinarian after being deposed from his title of Sorcerer Supreme. Strange enchanted Bats with a translation spell that allowed his barks to be interpreted as English. An encounter with Loki resulted in Bats suffering a fatal heart attack. The old boy had so enjoyed his time with Dr. Strange, however, that he decided to stay at the sorcerer’s side in a ghostly form. As a specter, Bats continued to accompany Strange on many adventures. He’s a very good boy and first appeared in the pages of Doctor Strange Vol .1 #381 (2017).

Tippy-Toe The Squirrel

The intrepid squirrel known as Tippy-Toe first aided The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl in a battle against the villainous Maelstrom. From there on out Tippy and Squirrel Girl became inseparable and Tippy has proven her valor time and time again as one of the best sidekicks a superhero could ever ask for. She first appeared in the pages of Great Lakes Avengers #4 (2005).

Lucky the Pizza Dog

Lucky had previously belonged to the villainous Tracksuit Vampires, but he chose to save the Avenger, Hawkeye, and ended up hit by a car. Hawkeye rushed the dog to a veterinarian. Although he lost an eye, Lucky made a full recovery and went on to be a constant companion to both Hawkeyes, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop. His favorite food is pizza! Lucky featured in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, portrayed by a pair of pooches named Jolt’ and Eevee. Lucky first appeared in Hawkeye Vol. 4 #1 (2012)

Redwing the Avenger

Sam Wilson came across a juvenile falcon while exploring the caribbean island of Exile. Sam named him Redwing and the two soon discovered they shared a psychic bond where the two could communicate through telepathy. Sam would go on to find that he could commune in this fashion with most all bird, but his link with Redwing remained the strongest. Redwing would go on to be Sam’s partner throughout his many adventures as both The Falcon and Captain America. He first appeared in Captain America Vol. 1 #117 (1969).

Jeff The Landshark

Jeff was created by the villainous BRODOCK who had mutated sharks into bipedal creatures. Jeff was not especially vicious and ended up being taken in as a pet by Gwenpool. After spending some time on Monster Island, Gwen decided to leave Jeff in the care of Deadpool after she had doubts that she would have a solo series again, causing her to be worried about his future. The little guy first appeared in the pages of West Coast Avengers Vol. 3 #7 (2019).

Oliver, Lucifer & Figaro

Some time back, the villainous Sabertooth gathered up a trio of kittens who he planned to eat as a ‘snack.’ Mystique saved the kittens, depositing them in Gambit’s apartment. Mystique had believed Gambit would feel annoyed or put upon having to take care of the three cats. To the contrary, Gambit loved the little fur-balls and they have brought tremendous joy to his life. He named them each after cats who have appeared in Disney animated movies. Now grown, the three cats currently live in Gambit and Rogue’s residence in the Braddock Lighthouse on the isle of Krakoa. Oliver, Lucifer, and Figaro first appeared in Astonishing X-Men Vol. 3 #62 (2013).

Cosmo the Space Dog

Cosmo was formerly a test animal for the Soviet Space Program (СССР). He was launched into Earth's orbit as part of an experiment but his spacecraft drifted out of orbit and entered into a wormhole that sent him to the space station known as Knowhere. At some point during his spacial drift, cosmic rays mutated Cosmo, giving him his psionic powers. Thereafter, he became the station's Chief of Security for Knowhere. Cosmo makes a cameo appearance in the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 where he is portrayed by Fred the Dog. The space-faring doggo first appeared in the pages of Nova Vol. 4 #8 (2007).

Liho & Alpine

Who would have guessed that the cold warriors known as The Black Widow and Winter Soldier would have such warm hearts when it comes to cats? Well, they do and both of these Avengers have found themselves adopted by a pair of furballs. Liho decided to make the Natasha Romanoff hers in the pages of Black Widow Vol. 5 #1 (2014); whereas Alpine took in Bucky Barnes in Winter Soldier Vol. 2 #1 (2018).

Lockheed the Dragon

Lockheed is a member of a highly advanced dragon-like extra-terrestrial race. Lockheed himself was celebrated by his own as a brave fighter and hero against the Brood. Kitty Pryde of the X-Men happened upon Lockheed during an adventure that took the X-Men into space. She took care of the little dragon as though he were a pet, not realizing his sophisticated intellect. The two had numerous adventure together and it was later revealed that Lockheed had been assigned by his kind to stay with the X-Men so to keep tabs on them. Kitty felt betrayed when she ultimately learned this truth, yet she and Lockheed were ultimately able to amend their friendship. The dragon first appeared in the pages of Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 #166 (1983).

Mister Dibbles

A turtle is an interesting pet for the fastest man alive, but that does not change the fact that the Avenger known as Quicksilver loves little Mr. D here with all his heart. The terrific turtle first appeared in Quicksilver: No Surrender #2 (2018).

Niels The Cat

Niels was exposed to the same cosmic energies that imbued the heroic Speedball with his special powers. Niels gained the same powers and is able to generate a protective forcefield that absorbs all kinetic energy and redistribute the energy by bouncing about like a pinball. Niels embarked on numerous adventures alongside Speedball and even joined the lad during his memo phases wherein Speedball became ‘Penance’ and Niles became ‘P-Cat The Petulant Puss.’ Niles was later adopted by Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch. The fantastic feline first appeared in Speedball #1 (1988).

Zabu of The Savage Land

Zabu is a Smilodon (or saber-tooth tiger) who grew up in the Savage Land (an artificial preserve for prehistoric wildlife situated in deep Antarctica). Zabu became the companion of Ka-Zar the Savage and the two would embark on many adventures together. Later, Zabu joined Ka-Zar’s wife, Sahnna in a competition to possesses the Phoenix Force. He first appeared in X-Men Vol. 1 #10 (1965).

Mewnir

Mewnir (or Mew for short) is a white-haired cat owned by Nancy Whitehead, the roommate and best friend of the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. Mewnir is named after the phonetic pronunciation of Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. Mew's diet consists of half a cup of kibble mixed with half a can of wet food per day, so keep that in mind! She first appeared in Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Vol. 1 #1 (2015).

Ms. Lion

The fabulous Ms. Lion is a small dog owned by May Parker and lived in Queens, New York. The little pupper ended up joining Lockjaw’s Pet Avengers in an adventure where the team prevented the Infinity Gems from falling into evil hands. In the universe of Spider-Man and The Amazing Friends, doggo is cared for by the heroine, Firestar. Ms. Lion first appeared in the pages of Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers #1 (2009).

Throg the Thunder Frog!

A frog who possesses the power of Thor. He is Throg! ...and first appeared in the pages of Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers #1 (2009).

Oh my goddddddddddd, HEX anon, I adore you and I hate you so much for this ask. Because one each?! Do you have any idea how hard decisions are for me in the best of circumstances? This is cruelty!

(Given how much I screamed at this ask, I am going to enjoy that my responses gave you pain last time. It seems only fair with how much I suffered in trying to address this. I'm glad "the five stages of grief" got you -- that ending remains firmly lodged in my head and will not get out, so it seems only fair to share it!)

Anyway. Headcanons. I don't promise I succeeded at single choices because it gets blurry, but I tried! I also don't know that they're most favourite because that's like picking your favourite fluffy beast from a pile of adorable snuggly kittens and puppies, but let's call them among my favourites?

Farah: I know there's a good part of fandom that loves Mama Farah, literal or figurative, but in my head she never wanted children, and some days the idea that she is positioned as a mother figure to an entire school of teenagers makes her want to scream as much as it makes her want to laugh. It's one more part of the complicated equation that adds up to her finding distance easier. (She's always been socially awkward, and it just got worse with everything, but the lack of maternal impulses isn't just the product of how she was raised. Doesn't mean she won't get ferally protective when it comes to her charges, just ... not that way.)

Saul: Inverting the above, Saul does have paternal instincts, but he's suppressed the ever-loving shit out of them because he doesn't feel like he deserves to have them. He's living a life he stole, and while I don't see him as particularly competitive, the idea that he hasn't earned what he's been given has absolutely embedded itself into his psyche and is a constant background noise. As much as Farah may have lived their sixteen years after Aster Dell trying to not be Rosalind, Saul lived them trying to be Andreas -- not the actual man, but the idealised version he built in his head and raised Sky with stories of. (Sixteen years of "what would Andreas do" that only become "what would Farah do" when she is gone and Andreas is back, and damned if that doesn't rub salt into all of his wounds. The ghosts are real.)

Silrah: Regardless of whether one reads them as romantic or platonic, I headcanon an incredibly strong bond between them (literally and/or figuratively) -- there's a foundation of friendshp and familiarity through the years that underscores all of their interactions and that's where everything else builds from. Both of them are terrible at trust, including trusting themselves, but they trust each other -- to the point that Saul is Farah's moral centre (irony not lost here), and she is perhaps his cause (not entirely sure how to phrase that; it's less solid in my head).

tl;dr my blorbos are oblivous idiots and I love them for it and I have headcanons for days even if they're 99% incoherent screaming? I hope this helps you, anyway! It didn't help me in the least. 😭 I'm just going to be a mess of unexpected feels and useless thoughts over here for the rest of the night.

Comics Read 06/14- 25/2023

Over this period of time I read the first two collected volumes of Lumberjanes, “Beware the Kitten Holy” and “Friendship to the Max”. These written by ND Stevenson and Grace Ellis, the art is by Gus Allen, colors by Maarta Laiho and letters by Aubrey Aiese. Shannon Watters is also credited as a creator.

This is an example of series that I know I am supposed to love, but I don’t really like. I read the first four or five issues as floppies as they came out back in 2014. I did not love them and wondered why. Was I just too old for this all ages comic? Did having to wait a month between issues take from my enjoyment because I did not feel things cumulatively? I gave the first issue away to a kid I was baby sitting to see if it was an age thing. She declared it “too scary” and lost the physical issue. I sold the rest in my eBay store and decided to trade wait to see if it was more enjoyable without the monthly issues. While I did buy these two volumes, part of me thought this was silly and didn’t continue and then waited almost a decade to actually read them. I should just accept that there are some popular things that I don’t like.

Now that I am even older, I am better at admitting that. Between then and now ND Stevenson’s other Nimona, and I think some of the things that rub me the wrong way about Lumberjanes were also present there. The characters act like they are fans of the series in which they are staring. They get excited about upcoming plot points like they would for reading or watching something, not as something they are going to live through. Part of why I find this off putting is they get excited like this so early that I have not gotten to a point where I care enough to be excited.

The format of each issues is to start with a page of the Lumberjanes Handbook. This handbook page ends mid sentence and then the story begins in media res, though not necessarily picking up where a cliff hanger left off. The final page of the issue also has a page of the handbooks this time with photos of the campers. The floppy versions included playlists created by the characters, but that did not get included with my trade paperbacks.

The plot of these volumes involves campers, their counselor who they always frustrate, and something supernatural going on in the woods. When the cause of these magical events is finally explained it felt like an excuse for action without plot. It must be fun for someone else.

Allen’s art style is very like Stevenson’s. It is purposefully simple and child like. The colors are vivid and include a pretty wide palette for mostly flat colors. (That’s not a criticism, building depth through color would have been wrong for this kind of art.) The character designs are distinct enough to that various artist did impressive cover variants collected in the back that are all in their own distinct styles. But for the most part I didn’t feel like the characters were stood out as individuals. They are broadly drawn, but we learn so little of them in these volumes. Maybe this is a result of the issue structure? Also there is a reoccurring bit about Jen, the counsellor and only Black character in the book, being incorrectly named by Rosie the head of the camp. This is like the joke on Fringe about Walter never calling Astrid by her correct name, that the actress Jasika Nicole later admitted made her feel awful as a minority. It seems like it comes to a stop a the end of the second volume. And I hope it did, because it’s not fun to read.

Misbegotten Kittens

It’s a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, fantasy webcomic by Javier Hernández Aceituno (AKA DrJavi).

Years ago, after a threat from rebels in Europe who had grown tired of the American Empire’s ceaseless blackmailing of other foreign countries with their purposeful creations of viruses for selfish profit, the empire released one of their deadliest viruses onto the entirety of the European continent as an attempt to quell any further resistance. Unfortunately for them, a nanobot device was released by the rebels ahead of time. This quickly spread and killed all citizens in America within a short span of time. This, however, left other countries as part of the Afro-Eurasian Union and nearby territories without a vaccine for the man-made virus, soon leading to an event known as The Extinction.

The only civilizations properly shielded from the virus were merely small areas safe from the disaster, except one. A massive scientific station turned into the only thriving city located in Spain, called Esperanza. It’s basically a technocratic utopia free from scarcity and external conflict where its main goals are to find any survivors who are lost and/or broken from their past, grant them asylum, and guide them into recovery so they can become functioning members of society. Whether you’re a deserter, criminal, crippled in any way, mentally broken, or just have a strange amount of misandry, Esperanza welcomes all, provided that you don’t try to cause any internal trouble for the city and its people. The people in charge aren’t ones to turn down anyone who needs salvation and could provide some usefulness in their growing society, witches, demons, literal aliens, or freak science accidents especially.

What I find unique about this comic is that, unlike most webcomics with a post-apocalyptic setting, this one is really focused on rehabilitation. It’s not spending its time being sardonically miserable or not really using the setting for anything outside of the humorous antics of fantasy. It’s trying to be a lot more focused on sociological commentary (for better or worse), talking about the minds of human nature, criticizing the negative impacts of following your beliefs blindly or sticking to an unhealthy mindset, and the ability to reform and start anew when you’re given a second lease on life. It can get a little esoteric and ambiguous at times, but it’s at least present. Besides all that, though, it’s still dystopian fiction in a futuristic-fantasy setting, so expect the usual high amount of gory violence and violent acts, as well as some angst here and there. It’s kind of just going to happen if the comic needs it, so fair warning.

At first I presumed this comic might be too competent for me, The first chapter might be difficult to riff due to amount of animation and exposition. This comic also has distinct well written lore and themes that are much more complicated than your usual webcomics.

On the other hand, the artstyle is pretty rough and way too cheery and bright for a dystopia comic. The themes also could sound clever but are secretly very poorly executed and turns what could be a good story into preachyporn.

This is the biggest Maybe in the Rifflist history. I need to find out more before I make my final decision.

Dragie and Kitty Adventure Book 1- Version Two

The Food from Planet Tuun

On a sunny day in July, Kitty was looking out the window. Dragie had gone off to find some dragon food and told Kitty to wait for him. Kitty knew that when Dragie found food it was always exotic. Pineapples, blueberries, crepes (which are very thin pancakes basically), tuna, chicken, but the one thing that Kitty could count on was the fact that Dragie always seemed to know what Kitty would like.

As time goes on for ages, (not really ages but when you are only a few inches tall it seems longer), Dragie flies through the room carrying four plates piled high with food. Each plate had different types of food on them. One of the plates had dinner foods on it; things like steak, ramen, chicken, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, fish, fries and tater tots, and even rice with cream wontons, and everything else that you could think of to have for dinner. Another plate has light but filling lunch food, such as; sandwiches of many different kinds including subs, salads, soup and stews, meat pies and hot pockets, tuna, even some tomatoes and other vegetables as well. The third plate had breakfast food on it. So things like omelettes, bacon, sausages, toast (of many kinds), crepes and pancakes, a mix of many different kinds of cereals, fruits of many kinds, bagels and English muffins, butter of many kinds, cream cheese, olives and other vegetables, as well as pop-tarts and doughnuts. The last plate is a dessert platter. There are many types of cheese and crackers, fudge, ice cream in little tart cups, creme brulee, tiramisu, wafer rolls, chips and dip, hummus, dates and figs, snack mixes, chocolate (everything that has chocolate; so chocolate bars and truffles, to candy bars and everything in between), candy, and many other desserts. Dragie lands perfectly beside Kitty and nudges him with his tail.

"I have brought food," Dragie says with a smile.

Kitty turns and looks at Dragie, with his arms full of plates. "So I see." As Kitty takes a blueberry off one of the plates and pops it in his mouth.

Dragie places the food down on the sparkly clean floor and takes a large rib piece and begins to eat it. Kitty begins to ponder what would be the best drinks for washing down the food. He walks to the mini fridge, sensing that Dragie was watching his every move, pausing in his eating, opens the door and peers in. He pulls out some fruit juices, milk (many different kinds, all types of nut juice and whole milk), water, soda, and many other drinks like cold brew coffee and the syrups to flavour the milk. He walks back to Dragie and places the drinks down. Dragie smiles and goes back to eating his tender rib. Kitty walks a few rooms away and Dragie frowns.

Kitty has always been the one to not eat that much. It is not that he can't eat, cause he can eat a lot. It is just that he doesn't want to eat. Dragie does not like when Kitty does things like this, it makes him sad. But little does Dragie know that Kitty is making homemade tea and lemonade. Dragie leaves his post around the food in search to see what Kitty is doing, hesitant he may be.

Dragie flys through rooms slowly in search for Kitty. After the first couple of rooms, Dragie gets nervous and scared. 'Where is Kitty?' he thought frantically. He was flying faster now. He enters the kitchen so lost in his fear and thoughts, that he forgot to watch out where he was flying. Oh no! He'll fly into kitty squeezing some lemons if he is not careful. A small humming filled the air. 'I know that song! That is one of the native American songs that Kitty sings when working. It means that he is close!' He breaks from his thoughts and sees Kitty soon enough so that he could do a nose dive and fly up sharply. When he does this, he flies so close to Kitty that it causes to make a shocked kitty sound. The sound sounds exactly like a young kitten who is able to explore the house alone but while still trying to walk.

Dragie lands next to Kitty, watching Kitty finish making the lemonade. Dragie than takes Kitty and tosses him on his back and with his talons as he grasps the tea and lemonade. He flies fast back to where the plates lay making Kitty eek, he gently places the drinks down and takes Kitty of his back. The look on Kitty's face from flying so high is priceless and he laughs. A full belly laugh, a bit rough from the lack of laughing a lot. Kittys dishevelled look; hair spiked up and whiskers pulled back. This made him look like what would happen if Albert Einstein became Meowbert Stein. Kitty's eyes are wide open but not from his own choosing.

Kitty shakes and his appearance becomes fluffier but at least more like his normal self. "Sorry," Dragie says as he tries to hide his toothy grin. Kitty shakes again, making him return to his normal self completely.

"It's okay." As Kitty tries to fix his bangs from falling in front of his face.

Dragie puts a paw on Kittys. "Stop it, you look cute." Kitty huffs but leaves it. "But now time to eat. "

Kitty looks at all the food and then looks at Dragie. Dragie grabs a crepe and begins to munch on it. Sensing Kitty watching him, he turns his head. Drool is falling in large raindrops on the floor because Dragie loves crepes. Dragie is also looking at Kitty basically saying in little words, eat.

Kitty slowly puts a paw on a cream cheese wonton, never loses eyesight with Dragie. Then quickly puts one end of it in his mouth. Dragie smiles and looks away to get another crepe. Kitty woofs down the rest of the wonton and then reaches for a sausage link and brings it to his lips. Before he can wrap his kitty mouth around the sausage he feels himself being pushed by something. He looks up at Dragie who is eating a bear patty sandwich but shows no sign of using his tail to bring Kitty closer to him. Kitty looks over his shoulder and sees Dragies spiked tail wrapped around him. By the time that he looks up again, and he is next to Dragie, who is looking down at Kitty smiling.

Kitty puts his sausage in his mouth and munches away at it. Dragie reaches for some blueberries. Each one sticking on his claws on his left hand. He bites the blueberries sliding them slowly off his claws, trying not to have the juice down his scales.

A knock sounds at the Kitty and Dragie cave. Kitty and Dragie look at each other, food in both of their mouths. Dragie curls his tail closer to Kitty when Kitty tries to walk closer to the entrance of the cave. Kitty swallows his food and says, "what if something is hurt? We have to save it, Dragie." Dragie nods and walks slowly towards the cave entrance. Protecting Kitty the entire way with his tail. Eventually, they both reach the door. Kitty reaches out and opens the door. A small spiked creature about the same size as an hedgehog runs past Kitty and Dragie.

"Thank you for letting me out of that strange place. It was too cozy from what I am used to." The hedgehog says.

"Welcome," Dragie says.

"Where are you from?" Kitty askes with curiousity.

"I come from a planet called Tuun. My spaceship and I were on a way to a party on Earth for a couple of friends called," He pauses and pulls out these two long rods, sorta like shower rods, and types a few things on them. A hologram appears in between the rods. "Dragie and Kitty. But I seemed to have miscalcuated my route."

"You came down here to throw a party for us?" Dragie asked.

"Are you the ones who were playing in the field several t P today?"

"tP? What is that?" Kitty asked

"t P is the Planck Time. It is how is my people measure time."

"Oh. Well yes, it was our time for some sunshine." Kitty said.

"I have some very fine food from my home planet for you."

"Oooh, food." Dragie says with drool coming out of his mouth.

A flash of light and a whole bunch of food appeared. Dragie took something that looked like trout from the pile and began to eat it. Kitty took a flower that looked like clover and ate it. Before they could thank the small being and even ask if he would like to join them, they heard a loud whirring sound. The both ran towards the window to see a spaceship lift from the air. "I hope you both enjoy the food and the rest of your beautiful day!" A voice calls from the spaceship before it was gone.

"We didn't even to thank him or ask for his name." Kitty said.

"It's okay Kitty, I have a feeling that we will meet him again." Dragie says as he puts a paw on Kitty's shoulders.

The sun begins to fade on another eventful day from the pages of the Dragie and Kitty Adventures.

The DragonSoul Character Lore Masterpost - Part 2

Link to the previous part is above. Let’s get right into it.

Robin

A human bounty hunter born in Kensington-on-Wolford, Robin Sinclair is a prestigious member of the NBHG (National Bounty Hunters’ Guild) and specialises in hunting demons and cambions (half-demons). They’re a childhood friend and on/off love interest of Stardust and despite not getting along well with Drakon, the two eventually warm up to each other.

Robin actually has a fear of dragons due to being attacked by one as a child. The mask they wear hides their scars. After reconnecting with Stardust over a mutual desire to defeat Mephistopheles, Robin begins to overcome their fear and even finds the courage to remove their mask in Stardust’s presence.

Their weapon of choice is a mechanised crossbow that shoots silver arrows; the perfect tool for battling (lesser) supernatural forces. Robin makes good use of these when they save Stardust from a battalion of reanimated gargoyles and even manage to maim Mephistopheles at one point. Robin is also a master of stealth and is highly trained in various forms of martial art. Their weakness, however, is that they are deeply susceptible to hypnosis, which Mephistopheles is more than willing to exploit.

Robin’s character actually went through several different versions as I worked on DragonSoul. The very first draft of the character basically turned them into a vaguely steampunk Eddie Valiant, but the detective angle turned out rather boring when it came to actually writing it, so I used some recycled concepts from my old Star Wars OCs and that was that.

Robin uses they/them pronouns and is non-binary. They love stargazing and listening to classical music. They’re deeply caring and have a strong sense of loyalty, justice and determination. All in all, a fantastic person to have by your side. If you’re a demon, however? Well, you’re toast.

Drakon and Smokey

(I swear I didn’t mean for Drakon to turn out so buff but I’m not complaining 😏)

A good friend of Stardust, although often perplexed by his eccentricities, Drakon is exactly as the name implies: a dragon. Although he comes across as a little gruff and overprotective, that makes sense when you realise that he lost his entire cave to a mining corporation, only escaping with the ceremonial jewellery common in dragon culture and his infant son, Smokey, who’s only two years old.

Taking refuge in Stardust’s house, Drakon does all he can to protect Smokey and make sure that he’s safe and happy despite the turmoil they both experience. He’s a swift flyer and can be quite fierce in combat, being strong enough to overpower a high-ranking demon. However, when Onoskelis and Mephisto’s other henchmen ambush him in the middle of the night, he’s quickly overwhelmed and taken prisoner, but luckily rescued by Stardust after the melusine negotiates the hostage crisis. Despite being wary of the fact that Stardust is half human, Drakon eventually learns to trust him and stays by his side no matter what.

On a side note, Drakon is aroace and a demiboy. He enjoys longs walks in the forest and reading poetry. Give him fish and chips and he’s your friend forever.

Smokey is simply there to be adorable and to provide a bit of levity in an otherwise dark story. His main character trait is that he struggles to breathe fire, with the only results being smoke rings that blow out of his ears. Despite that, he does manage to surprise everyone - including himself - when he sneezes out a gigantic fireball and sends Mephistopheles and his henchdemons flying. He’s too young to speak (at least in the first film) and communicates through a series of noises that are a cross between a bird chirping and a kitten mewing. A sort of squeaky “nee-nee-neesh!” noise similar to the Knights Who Say Ni. He loves being held and petted and having someone read to him. Simply adorable.

Mitsuo

Stardust’s grandfather, Mitsuo is literally 1000 years old. Once a daring and mysterious samurai, Mitsuo is now retired and spends his days eating noodles, meditating and sharing tall tales of his adventures with Stardust and anyone else who’s willing to listen.

(Although he doesn’t appear often in the first film, he will feature prominently in the sequel.)

Despite being a little unsteady due to his age, Mitsuo can still fly and swim beautifully. He was unfortunately deported from the country when Stardust was only a child, but after a strong movement in support of dragons’ rights, he is allowed to return home and has a heartfelt reunion with his grandson. He doesn’t exactly know why Mephistopheles has such a vendetta against Stardust, but he’s more than willing to put the demon in his place, as we shall see.

There’s obviously a lot of chatter going on about Cruella and 101 Dalmatians and ooohhh my god errebody a lot of you don’t know the source material and I really. I really need to share a nut shelled version of the two novels (yes there’s TWO) because it’s absolutely wild from start to finish and it starts out innocent enough and then just escalates from there. Copy pasting from my twitter thread cause as much as I love this roller coaster I don’t want to type it again HERE WE GO: To start in the original 101 Dalmatians novel, Mr. and Mrs. Dearly have that house because Mr. Dearly never has to pay taxes ever again and was gifted that house because he wiped out the government debt. They also had two nannies - Nanny Cook and Nanny Butler. Pongo is still there, but the mother of his pups is a dalmatian named Missis. Perdita is a dalmatian the family took in out of the rain as a 'wet nurse' to help feed the 15 puppies. Perdita apparently means lost. Cruella is also married to a furrier. Because of course.

Perdita tells Pongo that she HAD puppies, by a dog named Prince, but her owner sold her puppies so she was out looking for them. After the puppies are stolen, and the Twilight bark reveals the location, Pongo and Missis TRY to tell the humans but fail cause they can't say S's. Pongo and Missis go on the search for the puppies, and Perdita stays behind to watch the Dearly's. When they get to hell hall, there's 97 puppies and Cadpig is a runt and needs to be pulled along in a toy cart supplied by a 2 year old boy in order to escape. When the dogs get back to London, Cruella's PERSIAN CAT who wants revenge for the kittens Cruella drowned, lets them inside the house so the dogs can destroy Cruella's furs. They return home and it turns out Perdita's puppies were the one's pulling Cadpig, Prince confirms! Since all the puppies were bought and paid for, and not stolen. No one is looking to get them back. Even Perdita's owner sells her to the Dearly's because fuck Perdita I guess smh. Cruella's cat is now HOMELESS because the destruction of the furs has forced Cruella to flee the country and put Hell Hall up for sale so the Dearly's adopt the cat as well. They then buy Hell Hall for their "Dalmatian Dynasty" with money earned by fixing another gov. debt. They then adopt Prince because they see how much he still loves Perdita and Prince becomes dalmatian 101. TIME FOR BOOK 2. THE STARLIGHT BARKING. They're still living in Hell Hall and the Persian cats are married. Cadpig now lives with the Prime Minister. Wholesome, right? Happy and cute what could the sequel to 101 Dalmatians possibly entail that's weirder than the first? MY FRIENDS. FAM. BUCKLE UP. The dogs awaken one morning to find out that not a single living thing aside from dogs can wake up. Doors, machines, etc all work on command and the dogs don't need to eat or drink or sleep. Cadpig is now the acting PRIME MINISTER AND THE DOGS CAN COMMUNICATE VIA THOUGHT WAVES. They soon discover that they can 'swoosh' which is basically hovering over the ground at high speed. So, I mean, flying. They can basically fly. So Pongo and Missis SWOOSH to London with about 50 other dalmatians to meet with PRIME MINISTER CADPIG. But WAIT. Tommy, the kid from the first book, and the farm crew and the Persian cat from the first book are discovered to ALSO be awake because they were dubbed "honorary dogs" after helping the dalmatians in the first book. Because fuck the Dearly's I guess they're just PETS. The Persian cat thinks this is all Cruella's fault somehow so they pull together a team to go to Cruella's home to KILL HER. But she and her husband are both asleep like everyone else. She's now obsessed with metallic plastic and not furs. So they spare her life. And then! A mysterious voice comes onto the t.v, alerting all dogs that they must all gather tonight by midnight under starlight. The Twilight bark and the TELEPATHY ensures all dogs get this message. Because of course. *INHALES BECAUSE NEXT PART IS A DOOZY.* All the dogs, including the honorary ones are gathered and waiting. Then! At Midnight! Euphoria! The terror! ....... As Sirius, the Lord of the Dog star appears and announces that he's lonely, and he wants to take all the dogs off Earth so they can avoid the future Nuclear War. But the dogs have to come willingly and in the morning he promises that the world will forget dogs every existed so they're not missed. Pongo is tasked with deciding the fate OF EVERY DOG ON EARTH. Some stray dogs convince Pongo to say no to Sirius, because the decision to go would be unfair to any dog on Earth who is still hoping to find a loving family on Earth. So Pongo says no, and Siris proud that the dogs are staying so loyal despite the promise of eternal bliss. Sirius lets all the dogs SWOOSH back home and of course they deduce he appeared everywhere in the world at once because he's a star and not bound by. Physics or something. Pongo gives one last message to Sirius saying dogs may leave one day, but for now they like being on Earth. Also in the second book. Lucky has a wife named Gay and they're secretaries to a poodle. Patch refuses to marry because he doesn't want to pass down his eye spot. Roly Poly teaches George, a boxer, how to swim and they bond over magical adventures in Paris. I PROMISE YOU nothing Disney makes with 101 Dalmatians can top the source material and honestly they’re cowards for not doing a perfect adaptation or the second book. (Apparently Disney wanted to do more things based on that author’s work when he was alive and I’m sure he would have had he not died in 1966 since Starlight Barking came out in 1967. Just think, there’s probably a timeline where Starlight Barking is the first Disney animated sequel instead of Rescuers Down Under.)

Ruki’s face gave away nothing, he was stoic as always, but his heart felt like it was being squeezed in some horrible machine. He was only able to hold his tears back due to years of hardening himself. You groaned and woke up. Ruki gasped in relief. You shifted on your side and Ruki smiled. “You’re alright. Don’t ever worry your master again.” The last sentence was meant to be scolding, but it came out vulnerable and desperate, his tone making it clear he was doing his best not to cry, though a few tears were already falling down his cheeks. You pushed yourself up on your elbows. “Master? I’m sorry, who are you?” You asked. Ruki’s body turned colder than ever, cold as ice. Shock filled his eyes before he narrowed them. “Your master is not in the mood for games.” You had to be playing with him. Right? “No, no, I don’t know you.” Fear entered your face as you realized something scarier. “I don’t even know me!” You couldn’t have forgotten him…he was your master, your lover…he was sure…he was sure he’d given you the best treatment possible. How could he fail this badly? He couldn’t lose another person he loved, his heart would break. But with you forgetting him….the cracks in his heart that had been mending, thanks to you, were starting to open again.

Kou

“C’mon Kitten. Please wake up.” Kou begged you quietly, his bottom lip quivering, tears sliding down his cheeks. You groaned and sat up. Kou flung himself onto you and hugged you tightly. “You’re okay!” He cried. You blinked. “Who are you?” You asked. Kou pulled back, horror on his face. “What do you mean? It’s Kou.” You stared at him blankly. Kou’s chest felt heavy, like it had been filled with lead. He tried to keep his calm, desperately trying to stifle his hyperventilating. “Ha…I know I’ve pranked you in the past, but now’s not the time, Little Masa-Kitty.” Kou said, a weak smile on his face. “No, I really don’t know you.” Kou felt a panic attack coming on. “No…how could…that can’t be…” Kou ran away, hyperventilating and gasping for air. He sobbed. This couldn’t be happening.

Yuma

“Eve…will be okay…right, Ruki…?” Azusa asked behind Yuma, who was crouching down near your bed. “I’m…not sure.” Ruki said quietly. “Shut the hell up! You don’t know that!” Yuma roared. He turned back to you. “She’ll wake up.” He growled. “She will.” And you did, your eyelids fluttered open and Yuma helped you into a sitting position. You shook your head. “Where am I?” “You’re in your home, Sow.” Yuma said to you, tears of relief sliding down his cheeks. “Nn…who are you guys?” You asked. Yuma’s eyes widened in horror while Ruki’s face became downcast. He had known from the start your memories would be gone. An accident like that… “No, Sow, no, you can’t…we’re not…” Yuma began to cry. He had lost his memories before in his life. But that had never been as painful as knowing you lost yours.

Azusa

“Eve…can you…wake up…please…?” Azusa asked you, as you laid on the bed unconscious. Hours passed and Azusa refused to fall asleep. Finally, you woke up. “Who are you? Where am I?” You asked. “Eve…doesn’t remember…?” Azusa asked you. You shook your head. “My name is Eve…?” “My Eve…” Azusa said quietly, his voice heartbroken. “I’m sorry.” You told him. “It’s my fault…Eve…I couldn’t…protect you…” Azusa began to cry. You began to cry too. For Azusa, for your lost memories, for everything.

Carla

A king cannot be without his queen. And Carla…Carla could not be without you. He stroked your hair the way you often stroked his. He pressed a kiss to your forehead. “Wake up.” He murmured against your skin. You did, sitting up and holding your head in discomfort. Carla’s eyes filled with tears but he managed to compose himself before you turned to him. “Who…who are you?” You asked. Carla’s throat turned dry. “What do you mean? You know me, you’re my queen!” “I’m a queen?” You really…had forgotten him? He gripped your hands in his. “You haven’t…forgotten me…? No, you couldn’t have.” “I think I forgot myself too.” You said quietly, horrorstruck as you realized you had no idea who you were. You began to cry and Carla wrapped you in his arms. “I’ll fix this.” Carla said, his voice shaky. “I will. I’m a founder, we can do anything.”

Shin

Some of Shin’s wolves were curled up besides you. They had become very fond of you. Tears dropped out of Shin’s single eye. He hugged you close, laying in bed with you. “Huh? Where am I? Who are you?” Surprised you had woken up while he was crying, Shin sat up adruptly. “Why are you crying? Why are we in a bed together???” Shin pounced on you, hugging you tightly. You tensed up, unsure of what to do. Then you gasped and Shin pulled away. “Wolves!” You said, shocked. “You know them. You love them.” Shin tried to remind you. “I don’t.” You said, shaking your head. “I…don’t.” “How…? Did the accident…?” “I was in accident?” You asked, touching your forehead. Judging by how horrible you felt, that wasn’t hard to believe. “Maybe…” A lump formed in Shin’s throat and he began to cry. “Maybe Big Brother…can fix this.”

Kino

He couldn’t lose you. Besides Yuri, you were only one who ever saw him, recognized him. You made him a better person and he loved you. But when you woke up and asked him who he was, Kino’s heart broke again. He sobbed and you sobbed with him, both mourning your loss of memories. Why bother loving when it lead to pain? Kino, thought. But he still loved you, more than anything. He’d find a way to bring your memories back. He had to. For both your sakes.

HI THIS IS RLY RANDOM BUT ive been thinking about how cool all my mutual's versions of jameson are and i realized i barely know too much about your interpretation?? so if u feel like it could i have some fun facts about ur boy???? like a basic run-down of the jamie in the Florence Lore. if u feel like it of course. i want to learn more about him 🥺

AAAA HELLO! ur version of jameson is way cooler than mine but i'd love to share :3

ok i was just going to do point-by-point fun facts but ended up going into way too much detail. sorry. u do not have to read it all. but more stuff under the cut!!

back in his original era, my jameson had lots of different jobs as a kid. once a paperboy, once a shoe-shiner, once doing deliveries. but what he really wanted was to be an actor!!

as he got older he grew obsessed with theatre, but often only had the opportunity to play brief side characters due to people not taking his disability into consideration. he didn't have as much fun with minor parts like that, so he started working with costumes and music instead. he had an awesome time doing it, learned a lot of skills from it!! once silent films started to grow more popular, he got really excited because it was a format that could easily include him!!!!

he worked with those when he could, and used his costuming skills to become a tailor :3

but that's all of his backstory that didn't... actually... happen. just false memories...

(to those unaware here's a speedrun of one of my big lore points: the egos did not actually exist before anti and jack accidentally created them, but they had full sets of false memories and the universe just kind of bended to jack's will)

as far as what Actually happened: jameson suddenly becomes real and feels like he "snaps out of it" or "wakes up" in fall 2017, roaming the streets of a city he doesn't recognize. full of lots of big scary machines and lights and confusing nonsense. he starts to panic and gets really badly lost and hurt, and someone helps him to a homeless shelter where he stays until jackie finds him.

fast forward! after he gets adjusted to the egos and the new world..

he finds a new job - once again as a tailor! it's a really fancy shop, high quality suits for only the most refined gentlefolk... he loves working there and feeling super fancy, but on his own time he likes wearing real crazy-patterned fluffy sweaters, and button-downs printed with kittens on them, etcetera.

he still does theatre too! more places are willing to find better roles for him these days!

jj loves to cook! he's good at pretty much anything, and his cooking has quickly turned into all the egos' favorite comfort food, but he ESPECIALLY likes to bake. sweet treats all around! he's nearly always got cookies in the kitchen jar. definitely the grandma friend of the group.

he also enjoys piano, and makes guest appearances playing at marvin's shows! he also has played with anti a few times when anti was in a bad mood and needed a way to de-stress without hurting anyone.

speaking of which, out of the egos, jameson is typically the best at talking anti out of making horrible decisions. whereas jackie is too direct, henrik and marvin are too aggressive, and chase is too passive, jameson is really good at reaching out and comforting anti without letting anti walk all over him. he's gentle but he is stubborn and is good at using his kindness as manipulation (though he does his absolute best not to misuse that skill).

he also keeps the other egos in check and makes sure their falling-outs between each other are short-lived. whenever they need someone to talk to for advice, they typically go to jameson. he gives wonderful hugs and he wants the best for them.

he lives in the same flat as jackie and chase, and his decor has sort of spread throughout the whole place- he's made embroidered curtains for the kitchen and bought lots of nice tea sets to use. he's also super sentimental and has pictures of all his friends hanging up everywhereeee. and lots of clocks of course :)

he's aro and gay :3

last but of course not least, he did gain time powers in his creation, and they usually manifest in small ways- glimpses of the future, never showing up late, a knack for nearly-inhuman perfect timing. however, they may manifest in bigger ways. this might not be the first timeline. maybe he tried to save someone. maybe it didn't work. maybe he tried to save someone again. maybe it didn't work. maybe he tried again and again and this is the best he could manage. who knows, though? all hypotheticals. right?

Vienna-Based Mistos and Grizabella: Misto Becomes the Misto You Know

Once again, I find myself fascinated with the Vienna production and it’s descendants, especially when it comes to Mistoffelees. There are bits with Misto in these productions that are sometimes very similar to the 1998 VHS, but other productions don’t have them.

In the majority of productions I’ve seen, when Grizabella first appears, the first cats to respond are Coricopat and Tantomile, who hiss at her. Some productions have Mistoffelees sense her first, which all the Vienna-based ones do. But, they all do it slightly differently, with a noticeable difference between the first two (Vienna and Amsterdam) and the later two (Paris and Zurich)

Vienna:

This production started in 1983, but the recording is from 1990, near the end of the show’s run. Mistoffelees was played by the same actor, Valentin Baraian, playing him for most of the run. Occasionally, covers would step in, but he was the official Vienna Misto the whole time. So, despite the film being from 1990, it’s a characterization developed in 1983. I’m sure it evolved over time, but not in the same way as productions where the role changed hands.

I know it’s very hard to see here, but those are Misto’s hands behind Grizabella. When he first approaches her, he briefly tries to block her path, but when she insists on going forward, he walks behind her.

A cat, I’m not sure which one, runs up to Grizabella and hisses at her. Misto signals the cat to stand back. Throughout the scene, several cats approach Grizabella, some attempting to reach out to her, and others just to hiss at her or scratch her. With the former, one of the older cats will rush to stop them. Misto himself only stops the ones approaching threateningly. This means that he’s following her around to make sure that the others don’t hurt her.

After Grizabella starts singing, he tries to fend off the cats who approach her, but only the ones that do something to upset her, since she turns on them for the “you see the border of her coat is torn” line.

Conclusion: Vienna Misto is one of the adult cats, allowed to approach Grizabella and take charge while she’s there, since Munkustrap seems reluctant to do anything one way or another. But, even though he knows who she is and what she did, he personally has nothing against her and shadows her to keep her from getting hurt. Since one of the kittens succeeds in scratching her, he doesn’t seem to be very at it, but he cares enough to feel like he needs to try.

Amsterdam:

NOTE: Due to not having access to a full recording of this production, if one even exists at all, the following screenshots are taken from the clip @junkyard-gifs uploaded. As far as I can tell, the clip is from 1987.

When Misto notices Grizabella, he runs up to her and holds his arms out, blocking her path. Once again, it seems like Misto is old enough to know who she is and that she’s not welcome.

However, Grizabella will not be stopped. She just shoves him out of the way. He’s not Munkustrap. He’s not the protector. He can’t tell her what to do.

However, this shove is technically an act of violence, so Misto warns the others to stay back. She attacked him! I’m guessing this Misto is not often shoved out of the way. Some Mistos are, but not this one.

The other cats scatter and Munkustrap steps up to handle the situation. Misto is still mad about it.

Conclusion: Amsterdam Misto (Dr. Diavolo, which is an amazing name) is one of the adult cats, since he seemed to know right away that Grizabella wasn’t welcome. But, unlike Vienna Misto, who seemed to have some sort of connection to Grizabella, this Misto doesn’t like her and likes her even less after she pushes him. He seems less mature and more prideful than Vienna Misto, with his dramatic reaction to being shoved, but I get the feeling that most of the other cats would’ve behaved the same way in this situation.

Now, both of these Mistos knew who Grizabella was. In general, full adults know Griz, while the kittens and sorta-adults don’t. This is the most clear generation gap in the show. In both these productions, Misto was put on the side of the adults. This matches up with most earlier portrayals of the character. By the time Jacob Brent played him, he was a younger character, only just starting to become an adult, who comes up age by the end of the show. I’ve always been curious as to when exactly this change took place. How did we get from here:

I don’t have any pictures of Timothy Scott’s Misto and Grizabella, so this comparsion doesn’t work quite as well, but you get the idea. In the above picture, Misto is just sort of waiting to see what Grizabella does. He doesn’t know her.

Well, I think the next two entries in the Vienna Line show some of the journey from point A to point B

Paris

The recording of the Paris version is from 1990, during the last month of the show’s run. It was uploaded to YouTube by Guy-Paul de St. Germain, who played Misto in the recording, and in London shortly after, as well as in a later UK Tour.

Misto approaches Grizabella, and the film quality makes it hard to see what’s going, but what I think is going on is that Munkustrap and Misto are equally quick to react to Grizabella, but Munkustrap keeps his distance, while Misto approaches her. From what I can tell, he does so neutrally, just trying to figure out who she is.

Munkustrap doesn’t physically intervene, but he warns Misto to get away with a sharp hiss. Misto backs away and stands in the corner, where he remains for the rest of the number.

After one of the kittens (I’m pretty sure it’s Tumblebrutus) scratches Grizabella, Misto sort of leans toward her, almost taking a step in her direction. But, he looks back over his shoulder before doing anything, and whatever he sees keeps him in place. I’m guessing he was looking to Munkustrap for permission to see if she’s alright after being scratched, and was denied permission.

Conclusion: Paris Misto most likely doesn’t know who Grizabella is. He obeys Munkustrap’s instructions regarding her, but he doesn’t seem to know what to think of her. He’s concerned for her when she gets hurt, but he prioritizes Munkustrap’s orders over that concern. The general tone is very similar to the VHS, though 1998 Misto started glaring at Grizabella, copying Munkustrap, instead of just following his instructions.

Zurich

The Zurich footage is from a 1992 bootleg. In 1992, Misto was being played by Lindsay Chambers, who’d go on to play him on Broadway for a few years. He was playing Misto on Broadway when Jacob Brent was cast as Pouncival, so this is where Brent’s Misto starts to connect to Vienna-based Mistos.

When Misto starts dancing to the reprise of Tugger’s song, he gets really into it and Grizabella shows up right behind him, making it seem like he nearly crashes into her. When he sees her, he just stops and stares. He doesn’t react at all. He just waits to see what she’ll do.

Even though he’s not doing anything, Grizabella treats him like Amsterdam Misto, pushing him out of her way. Since Amsterdam Misto was actually blocking her path, it made sense for her to do that, but here it’s just rude! He doesn’t know who she is and made no move against her. If she wants a cat to welcome her back into the tribe, he probably would’ve done it. But it seems like Zurich Grizabella is focused on getting to Munkustrap. She wants to talk to the one who’s in charge.

Like in the Paris version, when Grizabella is scratched, Misto steps towards her. But, Zurich Misto is quick to stop himself. He doesn’t need Munkustrap to tell him to stay away, though Munkustrap is right there. I can’t tell if he’s glaring at Misto or glaring at Grizabella, because of Bootleg Quality. But, if Munkustrap isn’t glaring at Misto, Misto just decided to stop by himself, probably remembering getting pushed out of the way. Grizabella really lost herself an ally here. From other scenes in this version, I’ve noticed that Zurich Misto often doesn’t seem to understand the social rules of the tribe and gets in trouble frequently. In the very next scene, Skimble will stop him from pulling Bustopher’s tail, but he’ll insist on doing it anyway, so even if the rules are explained to him, he still might break them if he really wants to. He’d go against the tribe to support Grizabella if he felt like he had a reason to. But, because she pushed him, his first impression of her is negative, so if the rest of the tribe says she’s bad, he’ll go along with it.

Zurich Grizabella confuses me, basically.

Conclusion: Like in Paris, Zurich Misto is not a full adult. He doesn’t know who Grizabella is and reacts to her neutrally at first. The key difference is that he doesn’t go against Grizabella because that’s what the adults are doing, but in direct response to her actions. Compared to both Paris and the VHS, Zurich Misto isn’t quite as invested in pleasing authority figures. He wants the Important Cats to like him, but he’s more willing to go against them.

So, my theory about How Misto Became 1998 Misto is:

1. In different ways, both the London and Broadway productions originally characterized Misto as a full grown adult, somewhat established as a magician due to a love of showing off.

2. Most early productions had a similar characterization for Misto, including the Vienna production.

3. The Paris production seemed to be where things began to change. One of the actors who played Misto, either Tibor Kovats or Guy-Paul de St. Germain started playing the character differently. This might’ve been because of the decision to have Mistoffelees dance with Victoria. London’s Admetus and Broadway’s Tumblebrutus were established as kittens around Victoria’s age. If Misto was out of her age range, it would be kind of weird. This wouldn’t stop the London production from pairing her with Alonzo in its later years, but whatever. So, Misto was aged down to be only as old as they could get away with if they wanted to pair him with Victoria, even if it was just for one dance, since a lot of productions don’t have Victoria interact with her dance partner much outside of the dance itself. Mistoria shippers can make a thing out of it and everyone else can not make a thing out of it, because it works either way.

4. The Zurich production also paired Mistoffelees with Victoria for the dance, so they might’ve aged him down for similar reasons. Like in Paris, Tibor Kovats played Misto in this version early on. I don’t have any footage of him in the role, but he’s what really connects Paris and Zurich, so this Misto characterization might’ve come from him. If not, Guy-Paul de St Germain and Lindsay Chambers had very similar ideas for what to do with the character, with just enough difference that it could just be a coincidence.

5. Guy-Paul de St Germain played Misto in London, bringing this new characterization into that production.

6. Lindsay Chambers played Misto on Broadway, bringing this new characterization into that production. Future Mistos of both London and Broadway would be more likely to base their portrayals on these Vienna-based Mistos.

7. When Jacob Brent was cast as Pouncival on Broadway, Lindsay Chambers was playing Misto. Jacob learned the part while Chambers was playing it, and when it was his turn to play Misto, he also played him as a young tom coming of age.

And he was very good at it.

8. Jacob Brent played Mistoffelees in the 1998 VHS. When the show closed in London and on Broadway, the 1998 version became the version that most people saw first, so a generation of future Mistos learned his characterization, so it became the one that remained popular into the present day.

And that’s probably where Baby Misto comes from.

Rooftop Reveal

Chat was surprised to see a certain heroine's silhouette perched at the rooftop where he first gave her the red rose. It was his turn to patrol solo tonight, so her appearance surprised him.

Confused, he leaped down to her side. His heart twisted in pain upon the full sight of his lady. She had her knees up to her chest, her face buried into her knees as she sobbed.

Worried, he placed a hand on her shaking form, 'Hey, are you okay milady? ' . Ladybug looked up to him with tears framing her blue bell eyes, and Chat rested beside her. Ladybug nodded her head, flashing him a force smile, 'I'm fine Chat, just had...a rough day that's all,' .

Chat didn't buy it one bit, 'Hey, bug, you can tell me anything alright. I'm your partner,' he assured. Ladybug hesitated, shaking her head rapidly, but Chat's reassuring gesture told her it's okay, and to let it all out.

Finally, she broke down.

'I'm so tired Chat! Being the new guardian, all these responsibilities come piling onto me. I never have time for my friends and parents. And they start asking questions and I had to shut them out! I feel like I'm drifting away from them! I can't do this anymore! And she! I don't know what to do anymore!' Ladybug sobbed harder.

Chat Noir held her tightly, trying to tell her physically that he is here, and he will support her in anyway her can. 'It's okay Ladybug, you can do it. You always find the best solutions, and you always will,' he gave her a reassuring smile.

Ladybug looked up at him, shaking her head rapidly, more tears falling down. 'I can't even control my own love life Chat! How am I suppose to handle this! If I hadn't been distracted from my problems Master wouldn't have lost his memory! I wouldn't have to become a guardian at all! This is all my fault!' . Chat was confused, 'What do you mean? ' he questioned.

'This boy I liked, no I'm pretty sure I'm i love with him, I was swinging by when I saw him, with another girl, and I got distracted. It's all my fault!' she wiped her tears.

Chat Noir felt some kind of anger towards the boy, blaming him for making his lady cry, 'Whoever he is, he's a jerk, okay?' Chat assured. Ladybug snapped sadly, 'He's not a jerk! He's actually very sweet and kind. It's not his fault, he doesn't even know I like him,' she trailed off. His heart twisted in jealousy, whoever his lady likes is most probably the luckiest guy in the world.

'He sounds great, do I know him?' Chat questioned, curious and desperate to know who held his lady's heart. Ladybug sighed, 'Well, I guess he's pretty famous so I'll tell you his name, it's not like I ever had a chance with him anyways,' Chat's heart thumped anxiously, a little excited yet scared to hear another guy's name fall out of those lips he adored.

Ladybug sucked in a breath, 'His name is....Adrien. Adrien Agreste,' she finished, and Chat felt his heart skipped a beat. 'What?' it sounded unbelievable. Ladybug, his lady, had been rejecting him, for him, the perfect, model version of him. He couldn't blame her, everyone wants the perfect version of him that he demonstrated to his father. It saddened him greatly, but not as much as seeing his lady sad.

'Why didn't you tell him? You're Ladybug, he'd be so stupid to let someone like you go,' Chat questioned, wanting to know the identity of he girl he loves so much to the point of pushing away every feelings he had for others, including his feelings for Kagami and his hidden love for Marinette.

'He doesn't like me, civilian me, trust me I've tried, only to get friendzoned again and again. Honestly, it's getting tiring.' she chuckled weakly, Chat was confused, friendzoned? He didn't remember anything about friendzoning anyone. His thoughts were disrupted by his lady's voice ringing through his ear, 'Once he started seeing another girl, I was pretty heartbroken, so I tried to move on to another, but it's just so hard! Whenever I see him it's like I'm falling in love all over again! Why does he have to be so goddamn sweet and adorable!' she pulled onto her pigtails, her bottom lip tugged out into a pout.

Chat was so surprised to see Ladybug so, so adorable. An image flashed into his mind. One of Marinette pulling onto her pigtails when she's frustrated over something. A sight he adored so much on the half-Asian girl, and now he's seeing it on his lady.

Could she be?

Questions invaded his mind, as he was now positively sure. His lady, is his princess. His heart skipped a beat, watching Ladybug, or now known to him as Marinette realized what she said, 'Oh! I'm sorry kitty! I know how you feel about me. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable with me rambling about Adrien like that!' Ladybug waved her hands apologetically, her head leaving the comfort of his chest.

'Milady, tell me, do you love me?' he asked, so suddenly that it caught the girl off-guard. 'W....what?' her face flushed, as red as her suit.

Chat took both his lady's hands and clasped them with hers, 'Do you love me, milady?' he questioned again, desperately wanting her to say yes, that she loved both sides of him, just like he loved both sides of her.

Ladybug fidgeted her fingers nervously, a new sight chat found himself to love. 'I...I would be lying if I said no, but whenever I think about my feelings for you, I think of Adrien. it's like I'm comparing the both of you and I'm sorry but I just can't help it! What's wrong with me?!' she cried out in frustration.

Chat Noir smiled as he lovingly took both of her hands, kissing her knuckles gently, and Ladybug's breath hitched in her throat, she'd be lying if she said he wasn't attractive, cause this man is downright hot.

'You aren't losing it, princess,' he smiled.

'P..princess?! What?! How?!' he chuckled at her stammering.

'I love both sides of you Marinette, so I hope you can accept both sides of me too,' he spoke gently.

Ladybug, now Marinette gasped softly, coming to a realization as she watched the green light faded away, his transformation wearing off completely. Her blue bell eyes staring into his forest greens. 'Y..you! T..that explains a lot!' she stammered, face red.

'A..are you disappointed?' his face fell, eyes turning into that of a kitten. Ladybug panicked, 'NO! I mean! I wasn't really expecting this! Especially when I poured my heart out to Adrien, in front of Adrien! Ahh this is so embarrassing!' she buried her face into her hands.

Adrien chuckled, as Plagg scoffed and disturbed them both, 'If you're going to be all lovey-dovey at least let Tikki out so I don't have to suffer alone! ' . Marinette giggled as she let her transformation go, feeling a little sympathy for the small creature.

Tikki emerged from her earrings, giggling to herself, 'One of the sweetest reveals I have ever seen! Don't you think so Plagg?' she questioned her other half, he merely scoffed.

'So? You're happy?' Adrien wanted badly for his lady to accept him, both perfect and imperfect versions of him, not just the perfect boy his father wanted him to be.

To his surprise Marinette leaped into his arms, whispering against his ear, 'I'm ecstatic,' he could feel her smile into his shoulder. He relaxed, hugging her back. Something about her made him feel warm, he had not felt this feeling ever since his mother disappeared, and he knew, that Marinette will be playing an important role in his life, he felt like he was holding the whole world in his arms, and he never wanted to let go.

They both snuggled, as Adrien placed a kiss to the top of her head, enjoying the moment as much as possible. Marinette buried herself into his warm chest closer. She loved his warmth, and felt safe in his arms. It's a feeling that both of them came to love and enjoy.

And there they stayed on the building, snuggling with both kwamis chilling beside them.

Bucky worried that the kitten won't survive the night, runs into vet!Tony who is about to head home. However seeing the kitten, Tony decides to help and nurture the kitten. Alpine survives the night and becomes a bike-riding cat, usually traveling on Bucky's shoulders or back pack.

The story could be a falling in love at first sight, or Bucky bringing all kinds of animals to Tony, because Bucky trusts Tony to take care of them. (There maybe a cracky story hidden in there somewhere too *wink*)

This is the moment when Tony arrives (could be a long night at the 'shop, or maybe just coming in from an overnight flight, maybe this is the time they regularly meet), they get into a small talk which slowly evolves into Tony staying and talking and Bucky reminscens of old times and what he can remember. It's a soft and tender talking the one people only have at 3am. Then an old times music comes on, reminding Bucky of nights when he went out to dance. And Tony seeing the look on his face offers to dance with him.

Prompt: Tony Stark is a well-known noble and mage, and Iron Man is a well-known villain. Of course, the two aren't connected at all. Until Tony Stark takes on a bet to figure out the identity of the man in the armor - and hires James Barnes, a washed-up mercenary to find any clues possible. It's just as well James has no links to the feared assassin called Winter Soldier, because that would be making things complicated.

I'm always open for other ideas but am really hoping for some identity porn :D

Title: Promise of the Desire to Live

Description/Prompt: This is a Pokémon crossover piece. The Pokémon egg on the left belongs to Magearna and will hatch in her original coloring (which are pretty much Iron Man colors). This Magearna will be the partner of Tony. The Pokémon egg on the right belongs to Mewtwo and will have almost the same coloring as Shadow Mewtwo except that his tail will be navy blue. This Mewtwo will be Bucky’s partner. Here’s the prompt –

The Avengers are called to deescalate a situation involving a young and semi-inexperienced Inhuman who lost her family due to a suicide bomber. After receiving her powers mere days after that traumatic event, this young girl, no more than 12, is able to sense who has a strong desire to commit suicide and send them to places/people/beings that need help and are able to bring them back from the brink of suicide.

Omega!Tony and Alpha!Bucky are sent to a Team Plasma lab with an egg incubator in the center of the room with two eggs in it. They take the eggs.

Description/prompt: No matter what the media and Hollywood tried to say, there wasn't really that much difference between predator and prey presenting people. A jaguar wouldn't love climbing trees and napping all day anymore than a squirrel would hoard nuts and play deadly games with cars.

But whenever Tony's gorgeous rear and fluffy tail wind up in Bucky's line of sight, he has to clamp his teeth against a strong urge to bite. And when Tony comes down to the kitchen each morning, hair a mess and silky, floppy ears on display, Bucky has to fight more possessive urges. He's sure neither the team or Tony would appreciate Bucky dragging the bunny off to his territory...Would they?
