You knew it was a mistake. From the moment you first laid eyes on him from across the gallery, you knew you had made the wrong choice by coming here tonight. You couldn’t possibly have missed it though, your best friend had worked so hard to get here and you’d feel terrible for not coming to appreciate his work.
That meant seeing your ex-boyfriend after months of avoiding him, and you were not looking forward to it at all. Gripping the glass of champagne on your hand, you made your way to another one of your friend’s beautiful artworks, not wanting to interact with him, examining the piece like it was the very first time you were seeing it, and not like your friend had shown them to you a million times before.
“What are you doing?” Theo’s voice startled you, your glass of champagne almost making its way to the floor. “God, you scared me!” You breathed, being met with his intense stare. “I’m… looking! It’s a beautiful piece, actually, I think it’s my favorite. I might even buy it!” You rambled, trying to get away from the conversation you knew was coming. “First of all, you know you don’t have to buy anything. And second, you’ve been staring at it for the last ten minutes, it’s getting kinda creepy.” Your friend stated, making you scoff. “No, it has not been that long…” you tried to argue but the time on your phone confirmed exactly that. You’ve been staring at it for ten minutes.
“What’s going on? You don’t have to be here, you can go home if you’re bored...” Theo tried to explain, but you quickly stopped him. “No, Theo! I’m not bored! I promise you I’m not!” You assured him, but it just wasn’t enough, after all, he has been your best friend for over a decade now, meaning he knew you like the palm of his hand. “Well, what is it then?” He insisted, making you sigh.
Seeing the cause of your discomfort a few feet away from you, you took your friend by the shoulders, turning him around until he was facing your ex, Theo’s mouth hanging open upon realizing he was there. “Oh shit, I didn’t know he’d actually come.” He said, giving you a pitiful look. “I mean, he was your friend before being my boyfriend.” You shrugged, “Yeah, but I haven’t talked to him since… you know.” Theo said, making you flinch at the mention.
It was at that moment that you and Harry locked eyes, his smile quickly turning into a tight-lipped one. “Oh shit!” You mouthed, immediately turning away. “Too late hun, he’s coming,” Theo informed, making you mentally curse yourself for being so naïve. “Hey Theo, congratulations mate, it looks awesome!” You heard Harry’s voice say, feeling your heart skip a beat. “Thanks, Harry! It means a lot to me to have you here tonight.” Your friend repeated the same phrase he had been saying the whole night, making you roll your eyes.
And of course, just when you thought Harry was about to leave, he acknowledged you. “Hey y/n!” You turned at the mention of your name, being met with the big brown eyes you once wished to see. “Hi!”Hi? That's it? After months without seeing each other, all you had to say was “hi”? You felt your nerves suddenly build up inside you, your hands started to sweat and you feared that the flute would slip from your clammy hands. Harry seemed to notice that, quickly excusing himself, going back to his previous group of friends.
“Well, that was awkward.” Theo let it out, making you sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose. “Fuck, I need some air.” You breathed, passing your friend your half-drunk glass of champagne, before storming outside the gallery. Once there, you let out a sigh of relief, making your way to the small patio, a string of lights hanging on top of your head, illuminating the space since it was already starting to get dark.
You sat on the wooden swing, the murmur of people in the gallery still audible, but not nearly as bad as it was inside. You took a few deep breaths, trying to calm yourself down from the nearly panic attack you had suffered inside. It wasn’t long before you heard the clear sound of footsteps approaching though, your body immediately tensing up upon realizing who it was.
“Can I join you?” Harry asked and to your surprise, you nodded. It was silent for the next few minutes, only the sound of your and your ex's heavy breathing cutting through the rather quiet atmosphere. “Theo’s works look amazing.” He quietly let it out, putting an end to the awkward silence. “Yeah, they do! He has been working on them for months.” You said, to which Harry gasped. “Damn, it really shows though! But with how easily I get distracted, I could never.” Harry chuckled, making you laugh. “Yeah, you’d probably think that observing the behavior of a fly would be more interesting than finishing the painting.” You said, making him laugh.
And just like that, you were back to how it used to be in the beginning. Telling jokes, sharing laughs, having fun, not fighting over the fact that, while working for his brother, Harry didn’t have time for your relationship anymore. It was silent after that, Harry just kept his gaze on you, his big brown eyes carrying a feeling that could only be described by one word. Love. “Don’t look at me like that.” You said, feeling yourself grow flustered. “Like what?” The ginger asked. “Like you still love me.”
Your words seemed to catch Harry by surprise, his expression turning into a confused one. “What do you mean “like you still love me”? I do love you, y/n!” He exclaimed, and you swore you felt your heart stop beating. “Well, you shouldn’t, we broke up.” You instantly got into defense mode, not wanting to get into yet another fight. “That doesn’t mean I stopped loving you.” Harry barely whispered, making a lump form in your throat.
Getting up, you took a couple of steps away from him, “Please don’t say stuff like that, Harry!” You pleaded, your mind fogged by his presence. “Why, y/n? Why shouldn’t I say I love you? It's the truth.” The boy questioned, getting in front of you. “Because then I won’t be able to stop myself.” You gulped, watching him get closer and closer to you. “Stop you from what?” He quietly asked.
“From this!” Those were your last words before finally colliding your lips to his in a more than necessary kiss. Harry’s hands went to your waist, while you threaded yours through his ginger locks. Your lips molded perfectly together, just like they did all those months ago, the feeling of being in each other's arms again washing over your bodies in waves of pure bliss.
“Please, tell me you still feel the same and I’ll never let you go again!” Harry mumbled between your lips, his breath hot on your face. “What if it doesn’t work? I can’t go through this again, Harry!” You cried, pouring your heart out for him. “I’ll try harder, we’ll make it work. I promise, I just… really need you by my side.” With that, you kissed him, even harder, trying to express all the love you still had for him, before saying, “You have me, Harry! I’m yours!”

{18 years of age}
Your heart thumps in your chest as everyone slowly gets picked into the teams. This is why you hated PE. You were usually the last one to be picked because everyone knew of your thorough incapability to play any kind of sports. It was common knowledge within your high school. So when you were forced to choose physical education as an elective to complete the required credits to graduate, you had no choice but to make yourself resilient to the fact that you would always be picked last.
It was worse because right now Jimin and Jeongguk were the captains of the dodgeball teams. As soon as he was chosen the captain of Team A Jimin had immediately looked to you and a sly smile tugged on his lips. You could see the wheels turning in his mind and you knew he was up to something.
So as you stand in the horrible PE attire you hope Jimin chooses you because the alternative will likely end up with you passing out. You can’t be in the same team as Jeon Jeongguk because you have a massive crush on him and every time you see him you feel like you will die. Some people call it being overdramatic but you call it being a teenager with no control over her emotions. You and Gus Isaacs are the only two people left as Jimin picks one of the guys from grade 12 into his team as his second-last pick. Not you, but someone else.
“Y/n”
You hear your name somewhere far in the distance but ignore the call and continue ruminating and chewing on your lip in the process.
“Y/n” you hear your name again, and this time it’s a bit clearer but you still ignore it and think you are probably hallucinating. Until Gus Isaacs elbows your side to bring you back to reality.
You wince in pain and hold onto the spot, giving Gus the evil eye as he motions towards the front. “Jeongguk chose you to be in his team”
You blink stupidly at him as if you can’t comprehend what he’s saying. You can’t. You hear the words ‘Jeongguk chose you to be in his team’ but they don’t connect right in your head. In fact they don’t connect at all so you miss the memo while the whole class gawks at you as you stare blankly at Gus.
“Y/n, do you wanna join the team?” Jeongguk asks firmly and with the usual confidence he carries.
In your repeated blinking state you turn to look ahead only to be subjected to a questioning look by Jeongguk.
Then your vision starts blurring and the last thing you remember is a heavy feeling taking over your limbs and someone shouting your name.
You awaken about an hour later in the school infirmary. You crack open an eye to find a boringly dull white ceiling gracing your view. You open your other eye and lower your gaze to find-
“Jeongguk?”
“How are you feeling?” he asks.
Why the fuck is Jeon Jeongguk here and not Jimin?
“I am fine” you strain as you try to get up. Jeongguk immediately places his hands on your elbows to help you sit up. You’re too wrapped up in your confusion to notice Jeongguk is touching you, otherwise, there would have been a reaction. “Where is Jimin?”
“He had to go to class and well someone needed to be here with you. So, I stayed”
“You don’t even know me” it’s a wonder you’re able to speak at all given that you fainted because of him. But he doesn’t need to know that.
“Are you kidding me?” he scoffs in a non-condescending way. “I have had every class with you since grade 8. Of course, I know you. Plus Jimin never shuts up about you and how great you are”
“You know me?” your eyes widen
He rolls his eyes. “Stop treating me like I am some damn celebrity. Contrary to the popular belief I am not a jerk”
“But you are a celebrity” you mumble under your breath, sheepishly casting your gaze at your lap.
“What?” he squints his eyes at you.
“Nothing. You can go by the way. I am fine” you swing your legs over the bed and plant your feet firmly on the ground. You pull yourself up with effort but a light feeling runs through you and you wobble on your feet and fall back down on the tiny bed.
“Yeah. You’re totally fine” Jeongguk muses sarcastically as he steadies you. “The nurse said you should go home. I’ll take you. Come on”
Your muscles feel tight and you feel the tension in every limb. This is probably what your mom means when she says she’s had an arthritis flare-up. It’s definitely not a fun feeling. You can’t move a muscle as Jeongguk quietly waits for you to say something. This is the most surreal situation you have ever been in. The eighteen-year-old you, crazed by hormones and prone to fantasizing doesn’t know how to deal with it.
“I can go home by myself”
“Sure. If you want faint on the way and then get kidnapped by some random creepy dude. Go ahead. Eighteen-year-old girls are like a hot commodity for those psycho’s” Jeongguk says firmly, clearly trying to scare you into submission.
“What makes you think I won’t get kidnapped if you’re with me?” you question with a slight intention of teasing.
He looks scandalized as his nose scrunches and brows knit together so tightly you never thought it was possible for someone to be that offended. “Excuse me. Have you seen me?”
Yes of course, you have seen him. You’ve memorized his whole fucking face and embedded it so deep into your memory you made sure that even retrograde amnesia couldn’t get rid of it. You have been looking at him from afar for so long, you know every little thing about him.
“Just because you are slightly buff doesn’t mean you can help me”
“Wow” his jaw drops. “I have added weights to my routine so I am way stronger than I used to be. I could protect you”
“Spoken like a true teenage guy living on testosterone” you chuckle.
He rolls his eyes yet again. “So now that I have proven my point, can I take you home?”
“I’ll spare your ego” your lips pull into a grin which he echoes.
He wraps an arm around your waist and you stand firmly on the ground, waiting to feel stable before you begin walking. Jeongguk doesn’t let go eyes resting on your face as he watches you inhale slowly before nodding.
Your skin burns, every limb feels with fiery wrath the effect of his touch. Your mouth dries, throat completely parched. Your hands become clammy as you curl your fists into the sticky palm.
“Are you good?” he asks
You nod. “It’s alright. You can let go”
“And have you fall and then I get blamed for it? No way” he shakes his head, resolute.
You sigh. “Fine then. Walk me home” you say and you won’t lie that even just a little part of you is ecstatic.
“Gladly” he greets you with a grin when you look up at him. “Where is your locker?” he asks as you both step out of the infirmary and into the quiet hall.
“It’s okay. I can text Jimin to bring my stuff later”
“You and Jimin that close?” he sounds resigned about it.
“I thought Jimin talked about me” you question as you walk side by side, Jeongguk guiding you with his hand on the small of your back.
“He says you’re friends. But he never mentioned you were close enough for him to go to your house” Jeongguk explains, his previously cheery voice slightly deflated.
“That’s kinda hard to do when he lives just down the street and he loves my mom’s cooking” you press your lips into a thin smile.
“Ah” he nods in acknowledgement. “Is he just a friend or…” Jeongguk trails, not really needing to go any further because it is self-explanatory.
You reach the west side exit and step out into the cool spring afternoon with the sun shining brightly overhead. “Why are you so interested?” you cock a brow at him.
“No reason” he shrugs. “Just wanted to know if Jimin had a girl” he waves it off casually. “Anyway, so tell me something about yourself”
Your eyes narrow in confusion. “We’re making small talk now?”
“I didn’t mention the weather did I?” Jeongguk chuckles.
“Fine. What do you want to know?”
He pouts, eyes squinting as he looks into the distance. He looks cute when pouts and he does that a lot. It’s creepy that you know this but when you’ve spent a better part of your high school life fantasizing over the guy it becomes second nature after a while.
“Tell me something Jimin doesn’t know” his eyes widen with a hint of excitement.
“Oh, that’s hard because I tell Jimin everything” you pause, trying to rack your brain for something you have never told Jimin.
“There has to be one thing” Jeongguk prompts.
Your lips just out as you try really hard to think.
Then it hits you.
“Don’t tell him but one time when we were younger he thought he lost his favourite toy. But really I took it from him and never told him about it”
“Wow. What a thief” Jeongguk teases with a laugh.
“He still talks about it and it’s so awkward” you shake your head, reminiscing about the time when Jimin has mentioned his missing action figurine.
“Why did you take it?” Jeongguk asks.
“The day before I took it, he went off to play with some of the other kids. I was mad that I had to play alone while he was having fun with them on the roundabout, and the swings and they were running around laughing. I felt abandoned so the next day I took it and pretended like he lost it”
“Remind me not to piss you off” he jokes, his hand which was resting on the small of your back, suddenly thrown over your shoulder.
You look down at his hand as it dangles over your shoulder. It’s awfully intimate for two people who have just met. But you shake your head because you can’t let these thoughts limit you and freeze you up. You’re finally talking to him and you’re having a good conversation. So you can’t jeopardize this because your body automatically reacts to his touch. That can’t be why you shoot yourself in the foot, so you maintain your calm by inhaling deeply and forcing your body to relax.
“Tell me something you’ve never told anyone” you look at him, noticing how he’s chewing on his lips looking into the distance.
He looks down at you with a soft smile. “I’ll tell you. I promise. When the time is right”
“How is that fair?” you pout.
“Wow child” he pinches your nose, wrinkling his own nose in a cute manner. He retracts his hand, letting it fall to his side.
“Fine. It’s not like I’ll die if I don’t know your deepest darkest secret”
It elicits a hearty laugh from him.
Tumblr media
{20 years of age}
Jeongguk stands at your door, chewing on his lip as he tries to decide if he’s making the wrong move. But then he remembers he promised he’ll tell you something he hasn’t told anyone. Even if that was two years ago and he’s a little too late in keeping his promise he still needs to tell you. He doesn’t know where it’s going to head, or what exactly he’s going to say because you’re kind of his best friend and he doesn’t want you to feel like he doesn’t care about you.
So with a deep inhale he knocks on the door and waits. He can hear the footsteps nearing and then the door opens to reveal you.
“Who invited you?” you joke, stepping aside and motioning for him to come in.
“I invited myself. I think I can come to my best friend’s house without an invitation. It’s kinda my right” he leans in and presses a kiss to your temple before ridding himself of his shoes and walking down the hall and falling onto the couch.
You follow him with a shake of the head. After two years of being friends and then eventually best friends with him, you’ve made yourself five percent immune to his actions which border between platonic and romantic. You don’t think he realizes it because he always does things like holding your hand out of nowhere or kissing you on the forehead as a goodbye.
You collapse next to him, and like a reflex, he pulls you into him wrapping an arm around your shoulder, fingers stroking the soft flesh. “I ask again you’re here because…”
“I can’t come and see my best friend? I missed you” he presses a soft kiss to your forehead. Your eyes close momentarily as you cherish his touch because this is all you will get. This is as close you will be to being something more to him.
“You can. But you just saw me five hours ago and we hung out. Now you’re here and you’re…” you look up at him and place your index finger in the middle of his forehead. “Now you’re frowning which means you’re stuck”
“I am stuck?” he looks down at you, a soft crinkle in the corner of his eyes.
“I mean something is bothering you” you pull your finger away and rest your hand in your lap.
“How do you always know?” he smiles softly.
Yeah. How do you know?
Is it because you have loved the guy for so long or because you pay very careful attention to him? It’s not like you can tell him so you settle for-
“I just know. Now tell me what’s going on in that big head of yours” you tap his temple with your finger.
“Okay first, I am not big-headed. Secondly, I have something to tell you”
“Are you finally going to keep your promise from two years ago?” you shuffle your head so you can get a look at him. He’s lost in thought, a vacant expression holding his gaze away from you.
“I am kind of dating Kira” he lets out a shaky breath.
You pull yourself away, suddenly feeling cold all over. Your heart pounds against your chest, the rhythm thrumming so loud in your ears they start ringing. You swallow, looking into the eyes of this majestic man in front of you who has slipped from your fingers like sand. There is no hope now. He’s gone.
But worse than that he’s dating Kira. She’s the epitome of a mean girl. Even worse.
“Since when?” you whisper softly, feeling your heart shatter into pieces as each second passes by.
“Four months” he replies, not meeting your gaze. “I was going to tell you but I thought I’d wait until things get serious enough”
If there was ever any hope of recovering from this, it’s gone now. You can imagine yourself moping, and crying in the near future because you couldn’t tell him first how you felt. Maybe if you had given in to bravery instead of your fears you might have been the one dating him.
“Why?” your heartbreak echoes in your words. You don’t know if he can hear it. You’re not even mad that he kept it from you for months. You are so severely hurt you can’t even begin to feel angry about it. It feels hollow inside, like the place where your heart should be is empty. A cold chill runs down your spine as you stare into Jeongguk’s eyes-- the ones that always feel like home-- but now they feel like a strange abyss.
“Because she’s actually sweet. She’s nice”
You put your feelings aside for a moment because this is bigger than you. Just because you feel like you’re suffocating sitting next to him; just because it feels like the end and just because you feel like you’ll die doesn’t mean you’ll let him ruin himself. She’s wrong for him in ways he can’t see.
“Jeongguk. Listen, I know you think you like her. I know you think she’s nice but she’s not”
“Please y/n” he whispers, reaching for your hand and holding it in his. “Not you. You have to side with me on this”
“I want to. If this was someone else” your throat constricts even thinking about it. You swallow. “I would be completely happy for you. But Kira isn’t what you deserve. You deserve better. You deserve good and she’s not it”
Jeongguk’s hold on your hand slackens. “Just because you can’t see the good in her, doesn’t mean she isn’t”
You stare back at him, the way his jaw sets tightly, the way he’s trying so hard not to be angry at you. “I can’t. I can’t tell you what you want to hear. My job as your best friend is to save you not destroy you”
He pulls his hand away from yours and gets up. “Whatever,” he says. “I don’t need your approval. I just thought I should tell you”
“Jeongguk-”
“Bye y/n” his gaze lingers on you before he walks to the front door and leaves.
Tumblr media
You didn’t think your friendship with Jeongguk was so fragile that it would fracture under the weight of his feelings for Kira. But since he’s actually avoiding you, you presumed wrong. He’s not been answering any of your texts or calls. He hasn’t visited you even once in the weeks after he admitted the truth to you.
He’s vanished from your life-- like he never existed.
It leaves a hollow feeling in the pit of your stomach to know that he’s just decided not to be a part of your life anymore. You feel hurt, but more than feeling hurt you feel disappointed in yourself. Trust is a fickle thing. It’s earned through effort and broken without lifting a finger. Did Jeongguk not know that? Does he not understand that you want what is best for him? Can he really not see that you have always been on his side?
But how do you bring someone back from the edge when they have decided to take the fall?
“Missing your best friend?” Kira makes an unwanted appearance as your eyes focus back to reality. She’s got a sly smirk on her face.
You roll your eyes. “I am sure you got into his head”
“He’s not a plaything. He knows what’s right and wrong for him” she folds her arms across her chest.
“You got what you wanted. Fuck off now” you bite through clenched teeth as you gather your belongings, ready to leave. You’re almost out of the door when Kira speaks.
“He knows you like him.” she says in a condescending tone.
Your steps halt and so does your heart. You turn around. “Just when I thought you couldn’t sink any lower”
She shrugs. “Your perceptions of me are your problem. Not mine”
“A snake like you doesn’t deserve him”
She laughs with a roll of her eyes. “You think you deserve him?”
Your jaw sets tight as you glare at her. “I do. I deserve him because I’ve been with him through thick and thin. I’ve mended his broken heart, I’ve tended to him when he fell sick, I’ve put my life on hold to help him live his. So fuck yes I deserve him”
She quietly observes smirk still plastered to her lips like she’s incapable of expressing herself in any other way. But then the smirk falters and sets into a frown. “Y/n please don’t” she reaches for your hands, crushing them between hers on purpose.
“What?” your nose scrunches in confusion.
“Jeongguk is your best friend. Don’t leave him because of me” her eyes become glossy, furthering your confusion. “I’ll break up with him” a single tear escapes her eye.
“Wha-”
“Kira. Dont.” a firm voice draws your attention. You turn around to find Jeongguk glaring at you.
With quick strides, he stands between you and Kira and he tugs her hands out of yours.
“I know you don’t like her but I never thought you would try to go behind my back and try to sabotage my relationship” Jeongguk looks at you with such venom laced eyes it pulls at your heartstrings.
“What? I didn’t even-”
“It’s okay kookie” Kira sniffles leaning into his chest.
You gawk at her, blinking repeatedly at the scene in front of you.
“Wow” your brows knit together, jaw agape as you look at her completely mortified. “She’s lying” you turn to Jeongguk. His nostrils flare, chest heaving as he stares at you--clearly not believing you, his best fucking friend of two years. He takes the word a girl he’s known for a few months. He doesn’t even need to say anything for you to know what he’s thinking. His eyes say it all, the hatred with which he’s looking at you says it all.
“You know what Jeongguk, she’s changed you and you can’t even see it” your eyes sting with tears. You have so much to say but you bite your words because Jeongguk can’t see past his feelings.
“You just can’t see me happy because you like me” his voice cracks, and you can see the shine overcoming his eyes before he turns away.
Your heart sinks in your chest. It’s not what he’s saying. It’s the accusatory tone of his voice that hurts. “Well, congratulations Jeongguk. You don’t have to feel burdened by it anymore. Have a great fucking life” you bite.
Kira looks up at you, a smile quivering on her lips. She glances up at Jeongguk who’s looking away to the side and then turns to you as she lets herself smile. She’s won.
You turn on your heels and walk away from them-- from the pain of it all because there is no point anymore. It’s like someone has driven a stake through your heart. It would have been better if that happened because the alternative is losing your best friend which hurts more than any pain that could be inflicted on you.
There is a sharp ache that settles in your chest as you walk away. But even as you do there is a tiny sliver of hope that he’ll call out your name and tell you to stay. Bit by bit it breaks as you step further away from him, until you are out of the door.
But you don’t hear his voice
Tumblr media
{23 years of age}
You didn’t think you would ever get over Jeongguk. But Jimin helped you in ways you couldn’t imagine. He never took advantage of your vulnerable state, he never inserted himself in your life when you were at your weakest. He was just there, being your friend when you realized that somehow he had pieced your heart back together without even trying.
He never tried to get you to move on from Jeongguk. He knew you liked him-- loved him rather. He was there for the drunken nights when all you could manage were sobs because your chest felt tight, and memories of Jeongguk would come rushing back in your inebriated state. Jimin’s silence spoke volumes and even through the haze you could see how much he cared as he would silently place your head on his shoulder and hold you close.
Since the day Jeongguk let you walk away from his life, Jimin has been there. He’s with you now, holding your hand, squeezing it tight as Jeongguk stands in front of you, puffy-eyed. Jimin slowly laces his fingers with yours, eyes never wavering from Jeongguk. The breath that has been caught in your throat finally releases and relief floods your chest. A slight ache settles deep somewhere, into far depths of your entire being and it begins to radiate until you feel a sharp stabbing sensation in your chest that has you squeezing Jimin’s hand like its your lifeline.
“Y/n” Jeongguk’s quiet and firm voice reverberates through the air as it reaches you
Pain forgotten, your eyes find purchase on the floor. You can feel your knees beginning to give out, a slight quiver indicating that you won’t be able to stand much longer. You are suddenly steadied on your feet. You look down at your waist to find a hand resting on your side.
“I’ve got you y/n. You just have to be brave” Jimin whispers in your ear.
You don’t know how to be brave. You thought three years was enough time to prepare yourself, to harden your heart to the fact that Jeon Jeongguk would never be a part of your life again. But maybe you never could move on. Maybe you will never be able to forget Jeongguk. Maybe you will never be strong enough to stand on your feet by yourself in front of him, and perhaps he will always be your greatest weakness.
But he looks broken.
As much as you did the day he let go of you without a second of hesitation. You can still remember the look of determination in his eyes, his set jaw, as he had looked away and without even a glance let you walk away from him.
That should be enough to make all the panic go away. That should give way to anger. But all that serves to do is remind you of how much it hurt to let him go.
“How have you been?” Jeongguk speaks but this time his voice shakes.
You shudder.
“I- I wanted to see you earlier but…” he trails off.
You just have to be brave- Jimin’s voice rings in your head.
“Let’s go Jimin” your voice is meek. Your action is anything but.
Jimin nods and leads you, his hand still holding onto yours tightly as you begin to walk past Jeongguk. It feels slightly nostalgic--walking away from him all over again.
“Y/n wait” Jeongguk is quick to catch a hold of your wrist just as you are passing by him.
You’re tugged in both directions as both men hold onto your hands. You’re forced to stop and face Jeongguk.
“You know you have some nerve Jeongguk” Jimin’s voice is firm as he grits his teeth.
“Stay out of it, Jimin. Please” Jeongguk stares intently at Jimin, but his tone isn’t hostile.
Jimin rolls his eyes. “It’s making her uncomfortable” Jimin bites back, hardly able to control his anger. It seeps through his words.
Jeongguk’s eyes shift focus to you and it’s clear as day that you are in fact uncomfortable. He notices the pained look in your face, the cloud of wispy breath fogging his view as you inhale sharply. He can see it in the way you’re avoiding him, the way your eyes are dancing around, restless and refusing to settle.
He lets go and licks his lips. “I am sorry y/n”
That gets your attention. It’s taken him three years to say that to you. “Sorry?” you scoff, anxiety and inhibition are forgotten as you meet his gaze.
“I know I was a dick to you-”
“You broke my heart Jeongguk. You broke--” you stop to gulp the tight knot down your throat. “You broke my heart to pieces and you didn’t even hesitate. Your ‘sorry’ won’t fix it”
“I know. So tell me what to do. Tell me how to fix it”
“You can’t. I won’t make you feel guilty and tell you that you could have done it. I know you were in love. But were you so afraid of my feelings for you that you couldn’t even have listened to me? We could have been friends in the very least. I would have been fine with it”
There is a pregnant pause. Jeongguk’s eyes flutter to the ground, and he chews on his lip in silence.
“I wouldn’t have been y/n” his gentle voice cuts through
“What?”
“You’re right. The moment I found out you liked me, I freaked out. I realized something at that moment and it scared me. I didn’t know how to deal with it so I thought the best thing would be for me to let you go. Then I saw Kira crying and I thought you guys got into a fight and it gave me a reason to let you go. Otherwise, I never would have”
You feel Jimin looking at you through the periphery. You quickly glance at him. Jeongguk lifts his head to meet your gaze.
“What scared you?”
“The fact that I liked you. The realization that I had--have-- always liked you scared me. It terrified me because it was too real. I could see it in my head y/n-- being with you. It was easy to imagine but I have been a commitment-phobe my entire life. I just couldn’t bring myself to”
You gulp hard. Your mouth is dry and in the cold January morning, your hand starts to sweat. You blink profusely at Jeongguk, unable to fathom his words. Jimin squeezes your hand, reassuring you, and reminding you to stay in the moment and not get swept away in the flood of your feelings. It grounds you and enables you to look a Jeongguk without feeling like you will lose your breath at any moment.
“I am sorry Jeongguk. You’re a little too late” you spare him one moment of a glance before turning on your heels.
“If you don’t hold me right now, I might just fall apart” his voice squeaks.
You halt in your steps. You pivot on your heels and face him. He stands with his head hung low, soft muffled sounds escaping his mouth, and you can see a tear fall down his cheek. You quickly look at Jimin.
“Y/n” he says warningly.
But you nod your head in reassurance and he loosens his grip on your hand.
“I’d never let you fall apart Jeongguk. Never” you say quietly as you stand on your toes and wrap your hands behind his shoulders in an embrace. A moment passes as he stands limply in your arms before you feel his hands squeezing around your waist. “I know what it’s like to fall apart and feel alone. I’d never wish that for you” you hug tighter, resting your chin against his shoulder. You can hear the sound of his tears hitting your jacket, and it breaks your heart too.
A few beats of silence pass while you hold each other. You feel the heaviness that had weighed your heart down for three years melting away. Jeongguk sniffles and steps back, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.
“So does that mean-” you can see the glimmer of hope in his eyes.
“No” you say firmly, holding his hands into yours. “No Jeongguk. I won’t be able to this time” you shake your head and just like that the dull look is back in his eyes. “Look at what not being together did to us. Being together would destroy us. The possibility that it could go sideways at any moment would ruin both of us. I told you, I will not let that happen to you” your voice quivers.
“Y/n…”
“I’ve loved you for as long as I can remember Jeongguk. I still do and maybe I always will. But we can’t always have what we want, can we?” your lips curl into a faint smile.
Jeongguk sighs heavily. Tears stream down his cheeks as they do yours. “No, we can’t” he replies, his fingers slipping through your hands.
“Bye Jeongguk” you stand on your toes as you kiss his cheek, lingering for a moment before pulling away.
“Bye y/n” he whispers, closing his eyes. He hears your footsteps retreat. He feels the cold breeze of wind caressing his face. He opens his eyes.
You’re gone.
And he is alone.

{18 years of age}
{20 years of age}
A cold chill runs down your spine as you stare into Jeongguk’s eyes– the ones that always feel like home– but now they feel like a strange abyss.
He’s vanished from your life– like he never existed.
His nostrils flare, chest heaving as he stares at you–clearly not believing you, his best fucking friend of two years.
She’s won.
You turn on your heels and walk away from them– from the pain of it all because there is no point anymore.
{23 years of age}
He knew you liked him– loved him rather.
It feels slightly nostalgic–walking away from him all over again.
You broke–” you stop to gulp the tight knot down your throat.
The realization that I had–have– always liked you scared me. It terrified me because it was too real. I could see it in my head y/n– being with you.

Part 1, Part 3
Part 2:
Izuku Midoriya never thought that he would be the kind of boy to fall so passionately in love.  To be frank, he wasn’t sure if he would ever fall in love. He was a nervous wreck throughout his daily life—probably only a hair away from a mental breakdown at any given moment of the day, so if you were to add a girl into the equation his anxiety would certainly increase exponentially.
That’s why, when he stumbled upon you seven years ago, during his freshman year at U.A., romance was probably the last thing on his mind.
The first time he saw you was actually pretty fleeting. You worked at a small convenience store near U.A. that he would sometimes go to when he needed miscellaneous things for his dorm. In fact, he is sure that your first words to him were, “Your total comes to 1480 yen.”
He knew that they were simple words, but he just wished someone would tell his heart that! The muscle had inconsiderately thumped against his chest as his hand shakily handed you the cash. He was sure that it stopped beating altogether when you blessed his day with a lingering smile as you handed him his items, gently biting your lips to keep from smiling too hard, “Thanks, please come again,” you had drawn out as you tilted a daring expression toward him.
Was—was tha--? No. No way you were flirting with him. Him? You? You and him!?
Izuku had tried to blink those ridiculously hopeful thoughts out of his head as he turned away from you. He had tried to forget the gorgeous way that you sang your goodbye to him when the bells to the store front rang as he made his exit, and how happy you looked when he threw one final glance back at you. He had tried so hard.
There were far too many stresses in his life at the time—with the League at full force, his work study with Endeavor, and of course, his mastering of One for All all needing his dire attention, but that wouldn’t keep him from stealing timid glances for the next few months whenever he returned to the convenience store.
One day Izuku had found himself staring at you for a bit longer than he had meant to, ‘Crap.’ he had suddenly caught himself as the two of you made brief eye contact before throwing his eyes back toward the items in his clammy hands. God, why was he being so creepy? You must hate it every time he comes here.
Izuku’s heart dropped at the thought, ‘Well… Maybe she didn’t notic-‘
“Hey, Green eggs and Ham!” he heard your voice firmly call out, sending him into a deep panic,
‘Me? Does she mean me? She must hate me. Oh god, she is gonna call me out for staring at her all the time. I mean, if I were her and some weirdo was coming to my store to gawk, I would be a little creeped out too. B-but It’s not like I come here only for her! I have groceries! Oh no! She probably does think I come here to stalk h—’
“You’re never gonna ask me out on a date, huh?” you planted your cheek against the palm of you hand as you leaned toward him on the checkout counter. You smiled, almost sadly at him as you waited for him to answer.
Izuku shook his head slightly as he tried to readjust his hearing, because there is no way in hell he just heard you right, “W-w-wha…” you suddenly spoke up and cut off his stuttering,
“If you’re not feeling me, then stop looking at me like that,” you rolled your eyes, standing yourself back up straight, “You’re kinda getting my hopes up, dude,” you shrugged your shoulders before returning to your small tasks: re-shelfing tidying etc.…
“Y-your... up... hopes?” Izuku could only stand a stammering mess as his overwhelmed brain tried to compute the information thrown at it. An imaginary light-bulb suddenly appeared with a sharp “ding!” above his head.
He gave a sigh as if he were preparing his thoughts on the tip of his tongue, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to stare it’s just… you’re really pretty…” he felt as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders as he looked toward the ground. He looked back up to meet with your shocked expression. He jumped as if your face had suddenly thrown a left hook in his direction before furiously correcting his statement, “N-not to be creepy or anything. I am sure you get that a lot, so you know I don’t mean anything by that! Well, I am not saying that to be flirty or something, I don’t have a crush or anything! Ha! That would be ridiculous! You don’t even know my name, although Green eggs and Ham is a new one. I haven’t heard that one be—"
“Well I do,” you abruptly cut him off as you raised an eyebrow into your wide-smiling expression.
“W-what.”
“Have a crush. On you.” You nonchalantly shrugged your shoulders, “Want to meet up after I get off in an hour?”
Izuku’s heart had practically dropped straight out of his chest, and he was sure that he was ascending on his way to heaven. He somehow managed to gather up enough life force to accept your request, and after that day the ball began rolling fast.
Like a clump of snow pushing its way downhill, your small dates quickly accumulated and turned into a full-fledged relationship. It was very easy for Izuku to fall into you. You were very assertive and knew exactly what you wanted out of your days. You were never exactly the shy type, and that must have rubbed off on him and given him the support that he needed to become more sure of himself.
As your uplifting whirlwind of romance progressed, the two of you rapidly meshed into one being, your personalities mixing and bringing out the best qualities of one another. As much as you would have denied it at the time, you two were almost too involved with one another-- pretty much inseparable. Despite this, the two of you hardly ever hung out at U.A., and even when you did, he would, only after being reassured a million times that you wouldn’t get caught, sneak you into the Alliance dorms.
Even though the two of you never actually did get caught, the thought of you being so close to his other life brought him an unexpected sense of dread. Izuku didn’t necessarily want to introduce you into his hero life. Even as a young boy of fifteen he knew that his life had a certain degree of danger that he would never want to involve you in. Your quirk was very small and wouldn’t help much of you were ever in a dangerous position.
Still, he was sure that you would never have to worry about any of that, because he would keep you as far away from his dangerous lifestyle as possible. He was sure that he could do it, because of your endless enthusiastic support for him.
Izuku was so sure, in fact, that he proposed to you only weeks after the two of you graduated high school and you got married a year after that. The wedding was small—only having a few of your closest friends and family and some faces on his side that were slightly unfamiliar to you. You had met his mother years prior of course, but the wedding was actually the first time that you had met any of his friends from high school, or anyone associated with his hero life really, and you didn’t really see much of them after the fact—until your daughter was born.
Your daughter, (D/N), or Koko as the two of you liked to call her, was born a little after you were married when you were only 20 years old. You two hadn’t planned to have a baby so early and neither of you really knew how to take care of child at all. You fumbled around for only a while before finally giving in and allowing outside help from some of his friends.
After all it takes a village to raise a child and six heads is better than two. Todoroki, Iida, Uraraka, and Yaoyorozu all pitched in to help raise Koko for her first three years of life and helped to life a tremendous weight off your shoulders.
But with that innocent opening came a flood of misfortune.
It was as if the safe little bubble that held the two of you in place, had suddenly burst wide open allowing the evils of this world to rip you apart.
Izuku flinched at the sudden memories as if he were trying to jerk away from them before the painful ones could emerge. He tried to refocus on only you as you furiously sat on your hospital bed.
He couldn’t help the sudden ache in his heart as you threw an awkward glance in his direction, but the two of you made eye contact, causing your gaze to dart away from his forlorn expression. He had been missing the enthusiastic look in your eyes for the past two years. He missed the light determination that was also etched in your voice as it loudly and proudly carried into the atmosphere.
Here he was, 10 months after the finalization of your divorce, finally looking you in the eyes again, holding a conversation…
So, why, in God’s name, did it have to be this one?
“Bonded,” The green haired man instinctively pinched this chin as he thought, “A quirk that allows to you now only read each other’s minds but feel each other’s pain and presence. I have never heard of a quirk like that before, although I guess it is similar to a telekinesis quirk mixed in with a consciousness transfer quirk. Although the two of you don’t swap consciousness, just share pieces of it…” his mutterings trailed off and were shortly after followed by Bakugou’s enraged shrieking,
“THAT’S WHAT THE HELL I JUST SAID, YOU NERD!” he seethed, grinding his teeth in a slender effort to keep from snatching up the other man by the collar of his shirt again. This day honestly couldn’t get any worse. Seriously! How the hell, out of the millions of people in this city, did he get in such a fucked-up TV drama of a situation with fucking Deku’s ex-wife?
Let’s repeat that for emphasis. HOW in the ever-loving FUCK did his end up with a shitty, nagging bitch of a woman prying around in his mind, with shitty annoying Deku also butting into his business, in the middle of what was supposed to be a shitty easy job, and end up in a in a shitty fucking hospital!!  He was wearing a god damn gown for Christ’s sake!
A sudden thought of yours popped into his mind—sending a hot wave of blood to his cheeks.
Izuku took Bakugou’s sudden pause as an opportunity to faintly speak up, “Sorry it’s just... a lot to take in,” he tried his hardest not to let his gaze fall in your direction.
“Don’t apologize to him, Izuku,” you addressed him for the first time, causing his heart to flutter. His name rolling off of your tongue also gave your stomach invisible butterflies but you continued despite this, “This is all his fault,” you turned to Bakugou, causing the mentioned blond to snap a quick glare at you, “This is all your fault!” you barked to the angry porcupine of a man.
He immediately barked back, “How the hell is it my fault? You were the hero wannabe that stuck her nose where it didn’t belong!” As he screamed back, Izuku could only watch in horror as the two most head-strong people that he knew began heatedly bickering back and forth.
He was only shocked out of his stunned state as you threw yourself forward toward Bakugou with an accusing finger, your body almost following after off of the side of the bed. “Your feral ass is the one who scared off our only lead! He was snatching kids!” you yelled incredulously toward Izuku, “If someone talked to my kid like that, I would…” you trailed off as a lie almost fell out of your mouth. You decidedly fixed your angry face back toward Bakugou, “well I guess I wouldn’t run away like she did. I would beat your ass!”
His hands angrily crackled, the heat of them at his sides causing his hospital gown to whip violently at the bottom hem, “I’d like to see you try, hag!”
“Hag?!” You clumsily jumped out of the hospital bed, but Izuku held out a soft arm in front of you. You ignored his pleading glance as your hot gaze could only fixate on Bakugou, “You’re not too good looking yourself! And you smell like burnt shit.” This egotistical asshole might have gotten by with treating other people like shit, but you’d be dammed if you were gonna let him walk all over you.
“Liar! I can read your mind, you know!” he snapped, causing your heart to momentarily drop before he nastily continued with a deep smirk, “You’ve been wondering how I “can still look so sexy in a hospital gown”, perverted bitch!”
Both yours and Izuku’s jaw dropped at the accusation. As Izuku’s heartbroken eyes darted to yours, searching for the truth, your face became sizzling hot with a rush of emotion—the forefront feeling being rage. You most certainly did not feel that way about an egotistical piece of burning garbage like him. He must be mind-illiterate because there is no way that that thought was read correctly.
But before you could open your mouth to respond, Izuku, who’s emotions had also been building during this entire dispute, finally exploded,
“KNOCK IT OFF!” his soft demeanor cracked, revealing a seriously frustrated man, “Kacchan, don’t talk to her like that.” He very seriously demanded. He knew that, because of Bakugou’s hatred for instruction, he wouldn’t be able to say his next point if he didn’t continue quickly, “You both need to calm down, or else I am gonna have to ask you to leave,” he said lowly, causing your eyebrows to sharply raise. You had only ever heard him talk this seriously on two occasions.: the night All Might died, and the day the two of you decided to get a divorce.
“Like you can fucking tell me what to do, Deku,” he snapped back, before throwing his clenched fist tightly at his sides, wishing that he had some pockets on this stupid ass gown to throw them into. He scoffed at Izuku’s unphased glower before turning away toward the room’s exit, “Tch. I don’t fucking care. I’ll go right now! You two idiots wouldn’t be able to help much anyway. I’ll fix it my damn self,” he stopped around the frame’s corner.
‘Well that was unexpected,’ You watched Bakugou’s figure retreat with a sudden heavy feeling in your chest. What the fuck what even was that feeling?
Guilt?
Shit, it just might be.
You had been just as much of a brat as him, if not more, so you were just as much as him to blame for things getting out of hand. You anxiously bit your lower lip as you contemplated apologizing to him. You were far from being above apologizing. You were certainly a type of person that could admit when they were wrong, and It was hard to deny that you would need Bakugou’s presence if you wanted to figure out this whole ‘bonded’ situation. The sole of your foot throbbed simply at the thought.
Dammit, guilt is not a good look for you.
Izuku’s voice abruptly knocked you out of your thoughts, “I know this is probably the last thing you want to do right now, but I don’t think you should go home alone,” you averted your gaze away from him as the heavy realization that you two were now in isolation together sunk in. He awkwardly continued, “The nursed told me you could be released right now, but needed to be watched, so… would you mind if I took you to pick up Koko from my mom and then maybe I stayed with you two for a few days?”
Koko.
Her name suddenly slapped you in the face, harshly reminding you about your life outside of this “TV drama” as Bakugou had thought of it as. What did this situation entail for your everyday life? Would you be able to work as efficiently as before? Was everything you strived for the past few years about to be ripped from your grasp? Hell no.
Your body involuntarily moved as you stepped toward the door to find Bakugou; however, a gentle hand found its way around your arm. You followed the appendage up its length and found Izuku’s beautiful, yet anxious eyes, “Where are you going? I-I know it will be weird with me being around again all of a sudden, but I only want to help. Nothing else, I promise.”
He could, in theory be a massive help to you figuring this “foot mate predicament thingy” out. He was extremely clever, and was the number one hero in Japan, but… also your ex-husband with whom you had… unresolved issues with. Were you even able to suck up the wagon full of emotional baggage that was between you two?
Then again, the angry porcupine didn’t seem like much of a better option either to be honest.
Fuck. What should you do?
Should you follow after Bakugou and apologize? Or go home with Izuku?
YOU DECIDE

Talking in Summer chapter 1
Hello! this is my first fanfic in years, I plan on continuing it for a while. I put information about reader’s quirk and such in my first post.
                                                  enjoy!
As I start to fold some plain colored tees I let out a sigh, I've been on my feet all day and I can't wait to just go home and relax. An old friend of mine suggested me to the manager here at superdry© in the mall. I'm grateful to have a job but I wish I could be working closer to my goals....
Since I turned 18 and left high school my life has been just a blob heading in no particular direction.
"Hey (y/n) looks like it's 7 are you ready to take a 15?" I hear my co-worker call out to me from the front desk. "Oh- yeah sure" I politely smile back at her, she was always looking out for me with breaks and such.
After gathering my stuff I head to the nearly empty dining area in the mall. 'Only one hour left' I state in my head while I take a bite of my sandwich. I look around and spot nothing particularly of interest.
Except one person.... Next to the center fountain sits a man
I see him quite often in the evening
He's thin with strikingly white hair and dark clothing. When I first started to notice him showing up, I speculated he worked in the mall since he was there almost on a schedule, but the more I look at his appearance and the fact he has no uniform I assume he may be homeless or just doesn't have anything to do.... 'Maybe I should stop judging people so much' Old habits die hard I guess.
Looking at my phone the screen lights up '7:15... Good timing (y/n)' I shuffle around and grab my things. Looking back one last time the white haired man seems to have left. 'Oh well'
The rest of my shift flies by mostly because I just get to sit here and talking to Yume, my co-worker, while we clean up the store.
Just like clock work I head home at 8pm. Taking the evening tram about 3 blocks away and then walking the rest of the way.
I climb the steps to my apartment and stumble inside taking off my shoes and running over to my shiki futon shoved between my closet and bookshelf.
I try to check up on my social media a bit and check on things but my eyes quickly grow heavy "I guess it's been a while since I slept huh?" I chuckle to myself. Plugging in my phone I roll over and decide to sleep.
                                                ❁     ❁     ❁
The next morning is hot, around 33°C, so I decide to wear some comfortable, breathable clothes like my beige plaid skirt and a v-neck white shirt. The outfit reminds me of my old school uniform 'why not go all in then...' I figure and do pigtails aswell.
The trip to work is boring and repetitive. I wish something would spice things up...even a little. At least I get off early today.
I walk up to the big red sign of the shop and proceed in placing my bag behind the counter and sitting down.
Customers will come in check out a jacket or two and leave.
I finally get snapped out of my trance when hear my phone alarm go off "hm?" I reach down and realize I must've set an alarm for break without remembering. 'Maybe I'll go get some (favorite drink) I'm not particularly hungry this morning', grabbing my wallet I make sure my manager is all set before heading out. I take a quick little stroll under the open roof of the mall as I approach the brown fake wooden "drink shack" shop.
When I enter I see that it's still kinda slow since it's the morning hours except a couple people sitting in the back. After getting my drink I decide to head to the middle of the shop where I see a brown haired man sitting at the back bar and that same white haired man sitting at a booth.
I drink my (favorite drink) while keeping my locked gaze on the habitual man for a creepily long time. I was still tired out from my quirk so I must've been zoning out for a second too long...
He looks up at my line of sight and makes direct eye contact. 'I've never seen his eyes before... Red huh? Creepy.' I think to myself while he looks around him probably trying to see what I'm staring at. I try to fix the awkward situation by giving him a little wave but he just shoves his head back down into whatever paper he's scribbling across.
'sigh'
'you know what why not just get up and walk over there he could be a new friend'
I blush at the idea of being so bold I've never been particularly loud or extroverted before. But almost as if my embarrassment and body weren't even in tune I find myself approaching the man. I almost collapse on the booth seat across from him my legs shaking and hands in a clammy cold sweat clutching my drink. "......do..yo-you work here?" I force the conversation out trying to seem confident. His red glare slowly makes its way to my face "AT THE MALL I MEAN!" That came out louder than intended....I can feel my face get hot from all the cringe building up inside my body.
"Why are you bothering me." The words were scratchy and seem to cut out of his throat blunt and awkward. I start to wiggle uncomfortably realizing the humiliating situation I put this stranger and myself in.
"I apologize, I see you around here a lot I thought you may have noticed me." I squeeze out while looking at the table slowly scooting out of the booth.
"Right..." He trails "you work at that clothing shop next to the fountain."
I perk up a bit I guess he did take note of me. "W- yes I do," I stand up and bow "it's a pleasure to meet you officially." I scramble to be polite and smooth the situation over. "Yeah." He seems to be done with me so I nervously spit out "Well feel free to say hi anytime!" before turning back to the shop since my break was over.
I get scolded by your manager for being a bit late. But overall I'm over the moon proud of my confidence, maybe this won't turn out so bad even if he decides to decline your offer.
Quickly finishing up my last few hours of work since I only had a 4 hour shift today and decide to do some window shopping at the mall before leaving looking at other clothing shops and game stores.I had taken a study break from games, but since I have graduated, I've been trying to catch up by skipping sleep thanks to my quirk. Sadly I still find myself exhausted. Nothing catches my eye so I decide to head out.
Taking a stroll around town it's still quite sunny at 1pm, I decide to head to the park next to the local high school. A place I used to frequent a lot. Checking out my phone I see the headlines and new articles everyone seems to be in a frantic state "Destruction and mayhem..." I let slip under my breath while rolling my eyes.
This is why I want to be a veterinarian, actually be helpful. I always feel like heroes and cops are one in the same... Useless. While I start to bask in the sun I start hear squabbling between two males but their faces are blocked by the thick park trees. Leaning over I notice that one of them ran off. Spotting some oddly familiar shoes as the second person starts to walk into view.
To save myself any more staring embarrassment I quickly go back to closing my eyes at the sun only to feel the Bench's weight shift under my bottom. 'Someone is sitting next to me'. I take a peek and see the crusty pale man from the mall. "Hello?" I state looking for a response. With scrunched eyes he looks over at me and makes eye contact. 'he must not get out often' I think to myself.
"Fancy seeing you here" I chuckle to try and start a conversation. "Yeah." He rasps. 'is that all he knows how to say? What a weirdo maybe I shouldn't have approached him' I think before trying again at entertain him "Thank you accepting my of-ffer" stumbling at the end scared I might be annoying him. "Mmm" he grunts.
You're definitely annoying him.
"Do you want my number?" My words break out of my lips like water in a dam
'jeez why don't you just stalk him at this point' scolding myself.
"What makes you think I do." His words offend me in an odd way. "Well I just figured maybe we could become acquainted better that way...maybe?" Even I seem unsure of what I'm saying. Without another word he slaps his unlocked phone in my lap, hurrying to put my number in under (y/n) (l/n). "Feel free to text me anytime, I gotta head out." I say, I don't really need to leave but I'm pretty sure if I'm here any longer all my embarrassment is going to make me crumble.
bowing politely I turn to leave. "Hey." My head spins around to see the scrubby man now standing and looking at his phone, "Bye.", he nods at me before turning off and leaving as well. 'what a blunt man he must not have a lot of friends.... Oh There I go again judging I should really quit'. I seem to be filled with excitement though. Meeting new people is a rush I haven't had the pleasure of feeling in a while. I feel myself smiling all the way home.

100 prompt, 100, BBRae!
Nice. I like it.
Also, fingers crossed this is okay. BBRae is my secondary pairing to write but i never do them justice so forgive if not totally spot on with characterization XD.
Enjoy!
‘Sit, relax, I won’t bite.’
His palms were becoming increasingly clammy beneath the confines of his gloves as he kept walking in the direction of possibly the most forbidden room in the entire tower.
And he had been invited.
It was still very new to him; this thing he and her had begun. It was good; great even and dating her was something he’d never really considered until late last year when he’d simply started to see her in a different light.
It’d been a bit awkward at first, going from friends to more but they were easing into it more and more each day, growing and learning and understanding each other in ways they hadn’t attempted to before.
Today, it seemed to be her turn to try and raise the “trying new things” bar.
Beast Boy was nervous and he couldn’t pin point why.
It was only Raven; his girlfriend, a thought that gave him a goofy little grin each time it entered his mind.
They hung out all the time, with and without the others. It wasn’t anything unusual, even now when they’d started a relationship.
But, there was something unnerving about where they were hanging out this afternoon. It was a private place; not in general areas around the tower and that made him flustered, which in turn made him feel like an idiot.
There was no catch on the offer but still…
Raven had asked him to hang out in her room.
He cleared his throat as he turned the corner, leading to the bedrooms. His cheeks flooded with color and he shook his head, admonishing himself.
The changeling tried telling himself how it wasn’t that kind of offer but he did wonder what they would be doing. More touches? More kissing?
His neck felt hot and he gulped, trying to calm down.
Beast Boy always attempted to give this suave, chilled attitude like everything was a breeze and nothing needed to be worried about.
But, it was a bit of a mask. He was nervous now. Raven wasn’t some typical girl. She was beautiful and mysterious and she was still new to emotions since she became free from Trigon’s eternal influence.
He sighed as he slowed his footsteps, getting closer to the door marked with her name.
Raven needed someone understanding and caring. He really liked Raven and she got his heart racing and the banter they shared was special; it was great between them.
Beast Boy was nervous about shifting too quickly. Was there expectations from her as she was inviting him into her room to hang out or was he simply being an idiot and overthinking things?
He just… didn’t want to mess anything up with Raven.
From past experience, he knew she wasn’t the most open of people. The only other people who really got to see her softer, more sensitive side was Robin and Starfire respectively and even they had a hard time cracking that shell of hers.
It was just that, she had begun sharing that same courtesy with him and he didn’t wanna jeopardize it and overstep the mark by doing something stupid or that put her outside of their comfort zone.
He exhaled deeply and looked up at her door, lifting his fist to knock.
Just as he went to tap his knuckles against the metal, it slid open, revealing the dark empath herself. Beast Boy yelped and jumped back, holding a hand to his now thudding heart.
“Damn, Rae.” He breathed, trying to calm himself down,
She raised an eyebrow and withheld a smirk, “I know you’ve said I’m creepy before but…” She snarked,
He grinned and straightened up, “You’re funny.”
“I know. Don’t tell anyone.” She quipped, standing to the side, “Well? Are you gonna stand there or come in?”
Beast Boy swallowed again, “Uh… s-sure…”
As he tiptoed inside, Raven watched him, her eyes narrowing in confusion. He was acting weird; well, weirder than usual.
“Are… you okay?” She wondered,
He spun to face her and smiled broadly, “I’m great.” He leaned down and gave her a quick kiss to the cheek.
She blinked at him as he turned back and crept to the middle of the room, scanning the entirety of it.
“Right…” She droned, walking over to her bed and clearing her stray books away. She floated over to her bookshelf and began putting them back in alphabetical order; just the way she liked it.
“So… what… did you wanna do?” Beast Boy stammered and wanted to inwardly slap himself,
“Hm?”
“Y’know… we’re hanging out… in your room… so what’d you have in mind?”
She half turned to look at him and noticed he was still standing up.
“Uh… Gar? You can sit you know.”
“Huh? Oh! Right!”
He cleared his throat and sat on the very edge of her bed, looking at the ground.
Raven shook her head and sighed, putting the last novel away before she stood before him, her arms crossed her chest,
“Okay, seriously. What’s wrong? You’re acting so bizarre.”
“N-Nothing!”
“Uh huh…” She paused, noticing how utterly tense his shoulders were, “then sit, relax… I won’t bite y’know.”
He barked out such a forceful laugh that even Raven jumped back a bit. She exhaled and sat down beside him, tilting her head a little to see his face.
“Garfield… can you tell me what’s wrong already? The truth?”
Beast Boy chewed his bottom lip for a moment before his shoulders slumped and he sighed. He rubbed the back of his neck and sheepishly explained,
“Well… we’re still kinda new to this boyfriend, girlfriend thing and… you asked me into your room and… you never let anyone in here and… well… I thought maybe… you have some expectations of-”
Her eyes widened a fraction and she furrowed her brows, “Beast Boy… I don’t have any… expectations or ulterior motives… I asked you to hang out in here because I thought I could introduce you to meditation and I’m usually at my best with that in here… we can go somewhere else in the tower if it bothers you-”
He went red immediately and scrubbed a hand over his face, “Oh man, I’m sorry for assumin- I’m such an idiot…”
Taking a breath and a chance, Raven slowly reached across and took his free hand in her own, “You’re not an idiot. Most of the time, you are but not right now.” She gave him a thin smile as he peeked at her from behind the hand still on his face, “It’s okay that you were unsure.”
“I just… I don’t wanna mess it up with us, Raven. I don’t wanna pressure you into being more open or emotional or anything. I just… I’m having trouble knowing the boundaries now.”
She nodded, a faint pinkness tinging her cheeks, “I know… I’m finding it different too. But, you know, you can talk to me.”
He sighed and nodded, “I guess.. it just threw me. We haven’t really done anything on our own since becoming a couple… guess I just panicked a little. Sorry.”
“Don’t apologize. You didn’t do anything.” She affirmed,
“I suppose… I was a little nervous too since I haven’t been allowed back in here since I got sucked into your mind through that portal mirror thingy!”
She gave him a small, amused smile, “I think you’re safe, this time.”
He groaned, “Sorry for being… weird…”
“We’re learning. It’s to be expected.”
“Yeah! But, you’re not freaking out over nothing and being weird!” Beast Boy pointed out,
“I freak out too… you just don’t see it.” Raven admitted,
“Oh.”
“Look, if one of us is uncomfortable with something… we’ll say it to each other. I know I’ll tell you to get off me if you smother me.”
He chuckled and started to feel more relaxed, like he usually was with Raven, “Deal.”
Raven nodded and smiled timidly.
“So… meditation?” Beast Boy reminded her,
“Are you sure you want to? We can do something else if-”
He grabbed her hand and shifted them until they both sat on her bed, cross legged, “No way. It’s something you like to do so I wanna try too.”
Raven blinked her indigo eyes at him and got this tiny, bashful smile and nodded, “Okay… let’s start.”

Hey Doc!
Tumblr media
(Lol I managed to delete the first post so here’s a repost! And I really hope you enjoy this chapter. I know it’s moving kinda slow, but it’s gonna be worth it! :))))
Chapter 8
You lost track of how long you were sitting up on that roof. Between being mesmerized by the clear night sky and the conversation that flowed like a river both of you forgot the time. When you eventually noticed that it was getting pretty late you hesitantly told Sebastian that he’d better get some sleep. So you got in your car and you drove the two of you to the hotel. The car ride was mostly silent. A comfortable silence after all the talking you’d done on that roof. As soon as you got to the hotel you realized how inconvenient it would be for you to have to drive from your own apartment every time you had to wake Sebastian up. And as you were wracking your brain on how to bring it up without sounding super awkward Sebastian said: “Hey if you want you can take the bed and I’ll take the couch”. You met his eyes.
“Just so you don’t have to drive from your place every time you have to wake me up”.
“No no you need a good nights sleep. I can take the couch. But thanks” you smiled back.
As you got to the hotel you grabbed your overnight bag from the trunk and followed Sebastian as he showed you the way to his room. You took turns in the bathroom, and after he tried to convince you to take the bed one last time and you refused you both went to bed, with an alarm set for two hours. You both said goodnight but you suspected that Sebastian was just as awake as you were. Your eyes seeing shapes in the darkness that wasn’t there, and your ears acutely tuned to the sound of Sebastian’s steady breathing. You jumped when he eventually spoke.
“You asleep?” He asked, his quiet voice sounding loud in the silence.
“That’s kind of a stupid question to ask you know” you quietly responded, mentally noting the way your heart started beating slightly faster.
“Well I have the head for acting, remember, so I don’t need to be smart” he retorted.
You chuckled and listened as it faded away into the darkness.
“But you are smart though,” you said after a brief pause.
“Really?” He mused.
“I’m not going to say it again” you joked. It was quiet for a little while again.
“Why are you here?” he finally asked.
“I’m here because you decided it was a good idea to take off your safety wires before you were safely on the ground” you replied.
“No, why are you working as a set medic? You said you were specializing as a trauma surgeon, so this seems a little below your pay grade”. You swallowed hard.
“Honestly, I don’t know why I took this job. But I know that I’m not ready to go back to London” you told him.
“Still, you could have gotten a job at an actual hospital? Continue to work in trauma here” he continued to dig.
“Well, you see the thing about being a trauma doctor is you see a lot of horrible things. And a lot of the time when the patient arrives at the hospital it’s already too late. And after Yemen I needed a break from all the death”. You didn’t realize what you were saying until you heard Sebastian quietly mutter “oh” somewhere in the darkness.
“Wow that got morbid fast!” you chuckled awkwardly. “We really should try to get some sleep anyways” you quickly said before he could answer.
“I guess I should listen to my doctor. Goodnight” he answered.
You sat up in bed so fast your head started spinning. For a minute you tried desperately to orient yourself in the pitch black darkness. Your breathing was fast and shallow, and your skin clammy as you slowly managed to distinguish dream from reality. It was the slow and steady breathing coming from the other end of the darkness that made you realize where you were. You fumbled around till you found your phone, and saw you still had about half an hour left on the timer.
“Hey” a soft voice spoke. “Did the timer go off?” Sebastian asked.
“Oh no, you’ve got about 30 minutes left. Didn’t mean to wake you up” you answered him. You silently got up and slipped into the bathroom, trying not to disrupt your roommate for the night even more. As your eyes adjusted to the harsh light you took stock of yourself in the mirror. Messy hair, face still freckled from the time abroad, skin gently glistening with sweat. ‘It was just a dream. You’re not there anymore’ you mentally repeated to yourself as you washed your face with cold water. As you snuck out of the bathroom Sebastian spoke again.
“Are you ok?” His voice was gentle and concerned. “Don’t mean to pry, but you talked in your sleep. I think it was French? I didn’t really understand it but you seemed scared”. You didn’t respond right away. You didn’t know how to.
“It’s not a big deal. Just a bad dream” you eventually said. You could hear him sitting up, and he turned light on. He looked ruggedly handsome, his thick hair kinda messy and his eyes slightly puffy.
“Wanna talk about it?” Your heart started beating faster as you noticed the way his voice scratched and how he suppressed a yawn. He moved over slightly, making room for you in the bed next to him. You hid a smile and walked to the bed and sat down next to him.
“It wasn’t really a dream as much as a memory. From Yemen. I’ll spare you the gory details, but we lost a lot of patients that night. And a few of our own”. You could feel him looking at you as you closely examined your hands in your lap.
“I... I’m so sorry” he eventually said. “I had no idea”. You looked up and met his eyes. His brows were furrowed in concern and he had an innocent look in his eyes.
“Don’t worry about it. Its just a bad nights sleep now and then” you assured him. He opened his mouth to say something but changed his mind.
“If it helps there’s room enough in the bed for both of us” he quietly said, gently placing a hand on yours.
The next time you woke up it was slow. The gentle tune of your alarm was ringing next to you on the bedside table. As you stretched out to turn it off you felt the weight of Sebastian shift behind you.
“Did two hours pass already?” He groaned, his voice hoarse and low.
“Yeah, sorry. How’s your head feeling?” You asked as you yawned.
“I don’t know, tired I guess” he muttered as he rubbed his eyes. “But my shoulders kinda hurting a bit now” he continued.
“Mind if I take a look?” You asked, silently hoping it didn’t sound too creepy. He sat up with his bad should towards you, and you lightly tugged at the loose fitting t-shirt he was wearing. His entire shoulder had turned red and blue, which wasn’t unexpected, but it still looked quite nasty.
“The swelling has gone down a bit already, which is good, but you’re bruised quite badly,” you told him, as you gently felt around for abnormalities. He shivered as you pressed a finger to his neck.
“You have really cold hands” he muttered.
“Oh sorry” you chuckled and felt as your heart beat slowly started rising. “I could get you some more painkillers if you like,” you told him, as you let his arm go. In the absence of his hot skin against yours, you realized that you actually were feeling a bit cold.
“What time is it?” He asked you.
“About 4 am” you answered. He just yawned and stretched out.
“Wake me up in two hours I guess” he muttered, as he rolled over on his side. With his eyes closed, and his hands under his cheek like that he looked almost like a teenager. You quietly set the new alarm and laid down next to him. Facing him like this it felt as if the two of you were way more than just colleagues. Looking at him you kept imagining what would have happened if the two of you would have met as teenagers. Would you even bother to get to know each other?
When you woke up again you felt warm. Your eyes shot up? Why were you warm? And then you quickly realized it was because of the arm that was draped across your torso. You looked over to see if the owner of the said arm was awake. He was still sleeping peacefully, so without disturbing him too much you traced over to stop the alarm. And then you very carefully slipped out from his grip, a bit sad to be void of his touch again. You tiptoed to the bathroom to freshen up a bit, and then you returned to the bed. You sat down and gently shook Sebastian’s shoulder. He grunted and slowly opened his eyes.
“Hey (Y/N)” he muttered with a smile on his face. “As you can see I’m not dead, may I please continue sleeping?” He asked. You chuckled.
“How’s your head?” You asked, trying not to smile at his cuteness.
“Amazing, my shoulder doesn’t hurt, however, I am feeling a bit cold. Is that a symptom too, doc?” He teased as he rubbed his eyes. You chuckled.
“Fine, I’ll let you sleep on then” you sad as you climbed back under the cover next to him, this time just an inch closer than before, silently enjoying the warmth radiating from him. You fell asleep for the fourth time listening to his breath.
He was the one to wake up first this time. He gently shook you awake, and as you gained consciousness his blue eyes were the first thing you saw.
“Hey, sorry to wake you from your peaceful slumber but your alarm went off. And I figured I’d go get us some breakfast” he smiled.

47 - An Original AU
“No! Milo… Come back!” you called, slightly frustrated and panicked.
The small brown Labrador bounded through your house with the roll of toilet paper clenched in his mouth, leaving a white trail behind him. Every time you managed to catch up, he would duck between your legs and escape again. You weren’t regretting your decision to adopt a puppy, but you were starting to imagine how much more peace you’d have if you’d gotten an older dog.
You’d had Milo three weeks now. So far he had destroyed four pillows, a chair leg, the bathroom mat, and your favourite pair of sneakers. You’d also not been able to get him to be that affectionate towards any of your friends or family. He was by no means an aggressive dog; he just didn’t seem to like people that much. He’d cower or lash out barking. You were different though, he liked you. He just had a funny way of showing it. And you weren’t that great at training him.
You soon decided it would be easier to let Milo tire himself out with his toilet paper laps around the house than catch him and wrestle it out of his mouth. Exhausted, you collapsed down onto the couch and watched as he whizzed in and out of the room. Even just watching him made you feel tired and... very hungry. It was late; between working on your uni assessment and dealing with Milo, you’d not eaten or really caught much of a break. You decided to treat yourself, ordering a deliciously bad, greasy pizza.
Just as Milo had begun to settle himself in his bed by the couch, empty toilet roll left discarded in another room, the doorbell rang. And with the ding dong of doom, Milo was up again, barking and running in circles around your feet as you walked to get the door. As you opened it, you tried to use your leg to keep Milo back.
“Pizza!” A lanky guy with an endearingly wonky toothed smiled, holding out a box.
“You don’t look much like a pizza guy,” you commented sceptically.
The boy was dressed in torn black skinny jeans and a well-worn black leather jacket. His hair was a brown, fluffy mess, and you could smell cigarettes on him. If anything, he looked too cool to be a delivery guy.
He laughed a little at your comment before holding the pizza box in one hand and pulling out his shirt from under his jacket with the other.
“I am - see, here’s the logo,” he said as he showed you the pizza company shirt. “I really am here to deliver your pizza, honest.”
His blue eyes looked sincere. He’d missed the joke in your voice. Just at that moment, Milo reminded you of his existence by bounding towards the door again and pushing hard against your leg. He broke free and burst through the doorway, jumping up onto the guy’s legs, desperately seeking his attention.
“Oh shit… sorry,” you said with a whine, unsure how the pizza guy would react.
You went to grab Milo but the guy had already bent down on his knees, the pizza box still in one hand. It looked like a balancing act, holding the pizza box while responding to Milo’s erratic jumping and attempts to lick his face.
“It’s alright... Hey, mate! I’m Van. What’s your name?” he said quietly to Milo.
“His name is Milo,” you replied, smiling at the interaction.
“He’s dead cute,” Van the pizza boy grinned, looking up at you.
“Yeah, he’s cute… Bit of a menace though,” you sighed. “He’s new; I adopted him from a shelter a few weeks ago. Someone had brought in a litter of puppies and of course, I took pity on the crazy one who got left behind... Ah, he doesn’t usually warm to people this much, actually."
Milo was still a bouncing ball of energy but he was actually letting Van touch him and was even trying to get closer to him. Although, you were unsure if it had anything to do with the pizza in his hand, which was probably starting to go cold.
“I love dogs. Got one called Little Mary,” Van said.
“Little?”
“Yeah, me mum’s name is Mary. So the dog is the little one.”
“That’s cute,” you replied, not really stopping to think about how weird it was that his dog has the same name as his mum.
“I might grab this if that’s okay…” you asked, pointing at the pizza.
“Oh, right. Yeah. Sorry.”
Van managed to shake Milo off him for a few seconds so he could stand up, though the little brown Labrador hadn’t had enough. As you reached out to exchange money for pizza, Milo jumped up against Van’s leg so hard that it made him stumble. As if it were in slow motion, the pizza box fell out of Van’s grip and landed on the doormat with a splat!
Your heart sunk. The lid had come off and the pizza was ruined. But, Milo seemed to have gotten what he wanted and without delay, was tucking into the cheesy goodness. For a moment, you and Van just stared at the scene.
“I am so, so sorry,” Van said finally, absolutely mortified.
You looked up from pizza at your feet. His face had turned a shade of red and his eyes were wide. It made his eyelashes more obvious, sticking out like little arrows pointing away from his embarrassed face.
“No, it’s fine,” you said. “It wasn’t your fault,”
“But-”
“It’s fine. I should have shut the door behind me so Milo didn’t get out,” you interrupted.
It’s not like you weren’t annoyed - your night’s saving grace had been ruined. But you weren’t gonna blame Van for your boisterous puppy getting in the way.
“Um, I’ll go back to work and say I dropped it and get you another one,” he offered quickly.
He seemed to be panicking, at least a little bit.
“Nah, don’t worry. I don’t want you to get in trouble or anything,” you insisted.
“Ah, yeah. Kinda need this job if I'm gonna be able to buy that guitar...” he trailed off thoughtfully. “But, I can bring you pizza again some other time to make up for it? I know where you live, so- No. Wait. Fuck. That sounded well creepy. Not like that, uh. Didn't mean it like- I just meant, I can bring you another pizza when you want, you know?”
You chuckled and nodded.
“I’d appreciate that, Van,” you said with a smile.
He was kind of cute... Behind the dirty, rocker look he seemed to be going for, he was a softy.
“What’s your name, love? I feel rude patting your dog and dropping your pizza and not even knowing your name,”
“Y/n.”
He nodded and repeated your name under his breath. A small thing, but it made your heart skip a beat.
“Here take the money, and have a tip,” you said as you held the pizza money out to him.
“I can’t take that,” he replied, taking a small step back.
“Please. Just take it. Milo likes you, so that must mean something. Besides…he’s not been this calm all day.”
Milo was sat patiently at your feet, wagging his tail and looking lovingly up at Van, tomato paste around his mouth. Both you and Van gave him a little laugh. Since you didn’t want another pizza, Van insisted on helping you clean up the remainder of the one left on your doorstep. He helped you wipe it up with a sponge and some kitchen towel, which you were perfectly capable of doing on your own. Part of you didn’t want him to leave, though, so you let him help. You liked him and understood why Milo did too. “
Okay. Y/n… Well, I best be off. Sorry again..” Van said, sounding embarrassed and running an awkward hand through his hair.
“I’ll survive. I’ll go make toast and tea or something.” You saw Van’s eyes light up momentarily. “Have a good night,”
“Yeah, you too, love…and you too, Milo.”
Van bent down and gave the now calm puppy a final belly rub before he turned and walked away towards his car. You watched him go as you ushered Milo back inside. Milo went to his bed as you stood behind the closed door for a second, thinking about what had just happened. Your palms were a little clammy and your heart was running a little fast. When is a delivery guy ever actually cute?
You wondered if you’d ever see him again. Yeah, he said he'd bring more to make up for the mess, but surely that was just the polite thing to say. Part of you regretted not giving him your number but then again you could always just order more pizza and hope for the best.
The knock at the door pulled you out of your thoughts and gave you a fright. Your heart began to race and you quickly pulled the door open.
It was Van, stupid grin on his face and bottle in his hands.
“Forgot your Coke.”
