Kindness of time

Time could be kind.

For them, time allowed to be taken for granted. To be given as much as possible.

Their fingers intertwined, a thumb gently brushing the others' palm, gentle squeezing and warm reminders of the others' presence.

They were close, shoulder blades met. Eyes marvelling at the sight of the sunset, slowly lowering into the earth. James ignores the thoughts of earths rotation, some things he learned that often times distract him from current situations.

He wants not for their moment to be covered with scientific facts, but he allowed it as a topic for their slow conversation.

"In another place on this earth, someone else might be watching the sunrise." He started, voice low like a whisper. Afraid to ruin the calm moment. The other man tightened their grip and lowered his head. A weight was put on James' shoulder, black strands of hair tickling his ear and neck. He watched as the other man relaxed more, and a gentle smile tugged on the ends of his lips.

"Well, they're far away. While we're here together." His voice was smooth, and James would be lying if he said he didn't like it.

Everything about Regulus, James liked.

He could list them all or put it simply into a few words. He felt like he could do anything with Regulus by his side. Their bodies close, touches gentle, and voices smooth.

The moment was perfect. The time was right. Everything felt magnificent.

He's afraid of ruining the mood. Scared that he might just do something wrong or embarrassing. But around Regulus, James has no impulse control.

Words slipped out of his mouth unconciously. And when he realized, he thought he might have spoiled it all.

"I love you."

Something he rarely says, but the time felt right. He only just realized that it might have been stupid. James silently cursed himself for letting it out, holding his breath as he thought of a plan to salvage the moment and change it back to before he ruined everything.

He felt a tug and movement on his hand. The hand which he held Regulus' own was led to lift up. Pale fingers brought his hand closer to Regulus' face, and he felt a gentle kiss on his knuckles.

It lingered. Lips pressed for a long moment, and he sensed warm breaths on his fingers. His worries were washed off immediately because time was kind to them.

"I love you too."

Something Regulus says often, but the words held more meaning than it usually did when spoken. Their hands fell back between each other, but the warmth in his hand remained. In fact, it spread to his whole body.

James couldn't help but grin at the words. And he allowed his head to lean back on Regulus' own. There was silence between them, but the place around them went on. Trees rustling, winds blowing, and little creatures wandering.

He would have to thank time again and again for everything it did. For allowing it to lead up to this moment.
