~ in summer, a stranger comes home
. . . . .
It’s the middle of summer when your mom delivers you a little piece of seemingly innocuous news, a piece of glittering information wrapped in old magazines and tied with cheap string to disguise its sparkle. Her voice literally vibrates with excitement when she tells you, which probably should serve as a warning or a signal of some sort, but in your defense, you’re tired from a day of classes and research programs and just want to eat and die.
“Our old neighbors are coming back!” she bursts, a spring in her step that you haven’t seen since the day you were accepted to your current prestigious research camp. “You know, the Lees who used to live next door?”
You blink once, then twice before the information sinks in. A memory settles at the front of your mind. “The Lees?”
“Yes!” She smiles widely. “I missed Yuna so much, I can’t believe she and her family are actually moving back. Don’t you remember, you used to be such good friends with Juyeon?”
More blurry memories of playing in the grass and dancing in the living room with a chubby little boy flash through your mind. You remember playdates that turned into study sessions in middle school, study sessions that disappeared when Juyeon moved away. And though you’d like to forget it, you remember sobbing your eyes out the day he left at the end of summer, the weather turning to fall. Sunflowers were blooming that day, wreathing your lawn in an unfairly bright ring of yellow as you wrapped him in one last hug before his father started the car and the family drove away.
“Mhm,” you only say, taking a box of cookies out of the cupboard. “I remember.”
“Won’t it be so much fun for you two to meet again?” Your mother’s smile turns suggestive as she side-eyes you. “You two were always so adorable together. Didn’t you once say he was your boyfriend in kindergarten?”
That memory makes you cringe. “Thanks, Mom, I was doing a really good job of forgetting that before you mentioned it.”
“Oh, hush.” She shoos you out of the kitchen. “You two were so cute together. I have no doubt you’ll be the best of friends again when they come back.”
“I haven’t seen him in four years, Mom,” you remind her. “People change.”
A glint comes into your mom’s eye. “Maybe so,” she replies cryptically, “but some feelings remain.”
Okay, so in hindsight, you should’ve taken a lot of what she said as a warning that your life was about to get flipped upside down by Juyeon’s homecoming. But with everything already on your mind, you more or less forget about the news until one day towards the end of summer, when your dad tells you to come straight home after your classes.
You stare up at him over your bowl of cereal. “Why?” you ask, mouth full.
“You don’t remember?” Your mom sits down just across from you. “The Lees are moving back in today, and we’ve invited them to dinner!”
Your brain buffers for a good few minutes before you finally recall your dad saying something about “dinner with the Lees when they come back” a couple weeks ago. “I didn’t know they already came back.”
“Well, they are.” Your mom’s fingers tap on the table with excitement. “You have your research, but we’ll be helping them move back in today, and then they’re coming over for dinner. We’ll probably already be home before you get back, so try not to look too messy, okay?”
Wincing, you remember the several still-recovering formic acid burns on your forearms from several days ago. You can’t hide those. “I’ll do my best,” is all you promise.
So that afternoon, instead of staying behind and chatting with a few friends, you find yourself walking down the sidewalk to the front of your house much earlier than usual. There are new cars in the driveway next door.
With the sunflowers beginning to bloom on your and your neighbors’ lawns, it feels eerily similar to the day Juyeon and his family left.
A slight wave of nervousness roils in your stomach. Quickly, as you walk up the pathway to your house, you try to untangle your hair with your fingers, straightening out your shirt as best as you can. As tired as you are, you don’t want to make a bad impression on your parents’ good friends. You don’t exactly want to look horrible in front of Juyeon, either. Even though he probably doesn’t have any idea what you look like anymore.
With a deep breath, you grip the doorknob and twist. It’s locked.
Frowning, you look down at the unmoving handle. Your parents must’ve locked it by force of habit when they came back.
So you knock.
Literally nothing could have prepared you for the boy who opens the door several seconds later to your pounding. He’s tall, muscled, with fine features and a curious look in his eyes, and he looks vaguely familiar.
For several seconds, the two of you just stare at each other, neither saying a word. As you’re trying to figure out why a really hot guy is at your house right now, a much more familiar woman appears in your line of vision, smiling widely as she holds out her arms to you. “Oh, my!” she cries, pushing past the boy to wrap you up in a hug. “I haven’t seen you in so long! You’ve grown so much!”
“Hi, Mrs. Lee,” you reply, still trying to figure out who the tall boy is. It isn’t until she starts pulling away that you realize he has her nose and her eyes.
Huh?
Then –
Fuck.
Oh, fuck.
Oh, fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.
You nearly stumble back into the door from shock. “JUYEON?”
. . .
Juyeon thought his feelings for you had disappeared, he really did. When he moved away and thought he was never coming back, he took the love he’d held for you for so long, put it into a box at the back of his heart, locked it, and threw the key away. And as the years slowly passed, one after another, the box slowly disappeared from the forefront of Juyeon’s mind. He never forgot about it, but memories of you eventually stopped plaguing his mind day and night.
But that box never disappeared, not really. He thought it did, thought it dissolved into nothing over the years. Instead, it stayed, small but there, waiting for the right moment to burst and flood his body with the feelings he’d so carefully packed away so long ago.
That right moment is apparently when he opens the door to see a face he really never thought he’d ever see again.
Juyeon doesn’t recognize you, not at first. At second glance, he can pick out some distinct features that stayed the same (namely the sparkle in your eyes that hasn’t changed, even after all this time away). But during those first moments when he opens the door, he just stands there, trying to figure out who this person in front of him is.
Then it hits him, and the box of feelings explodes just as his mom starts pushing him away to wrap you in a hug.
You clearly don’t recognize him, judging by the curious looks you keep giving him over his mom’s shoulder. That makes Juyeon self-conscious – he hasn’t changed that much from when he left, has he? – and the embarrassment only compounds when you stumble back into the door, eyes widening as you yell his name in shock.
So, suffice to say, the conversation between you two at dinner is almost nonexistent. You look like you want the ground to eat you alive in your seat across from Juyeon, eyes barely looking up throughout the whole meal, talking only when someone asks you a direct question. Meanwhile, Juyeon’s stuck in his head.
Why, he despairs, didn’t these feelings actually disappear? Why does he still want to look into your eyes, get lost in your gaze like he used to so many years ago? Thoughts spin in circles in his head, thoughts of how you’ve changed and how you’ve stayed the same and how, oh God, his heart still races like no tomorrow when you meet his eyes for the briefest second before looking away out of embarrassment.
Juyeon needs a moment. He needs a moment to breathe, to think, to reason himself through this whole situation, which is why he volunteers to wash the dishes after dinner. Your mom starts praising him for being a perfect son and he dutifully lowers his head in embarrassed acknowledgment, thanking the heavens that he’ll have a moment to actually think, before she then looks at you to ask, “Why don’t you help Juyeon too?” and the world starts crumbling around his feet.
In perfect tandem, the two of you start picking up empty plates and bowls and carrying them to the kitchen sink. The adults make their way to the living room, laughing and chattering loudly, which only makes the potent silence between you two more prominent.
“I can wash,” you offer awkwardly, still barely able to look Juyeon in the eye (which is perfectly fine, because he thinks he might combust if you do just that). “You can dry? If you’re all right with that.”
“Yeah, that’s fine.” Juyeon tries to flash a smile, hoping it isn’t too shaky (the thumping in his heart makes it feel like the world is trembling around his feet). As the water runs and you start passing plates over to him, he does his best to ignore how close you are, how easy it would be to accidentally brush your arm with his.
Silence reigns until half the dishes are dry, and then you open your mouth. “Sorry about earlier,” you blurt, embarrassment and shame visible on your face. “I, uh, didn’t recognize you at first. Freaked out for a second.”
It’s surprisingly easy to laugh at that, to laugh at a statement that’s so blatantly you. You still haven’t changed, Juyeon thinks – you’re still the same bluntly apologetic friend he was in love with four years ago. It cheers him when your lips begin to turn up at his burst of laughter, face still embarrassed but beginning to warm with some happiness. “It’s okay,” he says, drying the next plate. “I didn’t recognize you either, not at first.”
“Well, I guess we can say that we’ve both changed,” you acknowledge, finally looking up fully.
Your smile could bring legions to their knees, Juyeon thinks. It certainly stops his hands from drying the next dish – in fact, he almost drops it. Even though the curve of your lips is small and he can’t see all of your teeth, the sparkle in your eye more than makes up for it. “Yeah,” he breathes. “Yeah.”
The two of you scrub dishes for the next few minutes in quiet again. Juyeon has no idea what you’re thinking, but he’s just trying to calm the beating in his heart.
This is not how he expected to feel when he moved back. Not at all. What he’s feeling isn’t even just everything he locked away at the end of seventh grade – somehow, the emotions have multiplied, compounded over years of neglect, and now he’s getting the full force of it.
“My mom wants us to be friends again,” you say, breaking the silence once again. “What do you think about that?”
Um, what the fuck is that supposed to mean? Juyeon thinks. Do you want to be his friend again? Or are you only trying to be nice to him for the sake of your parents?
“Well.” Juyeon bites his lip. “If you want to be friends again, I’d like that. But if it’s, um, just because of your mom, we don’t have to.”
At that, you smack a rubber-gloved, soapy hand against your head, shrieking slightly when you realize there are suds in your hair. Juyeon laughs, really laughs as he hands you a towel from a nearby rack. “God, I’m a fucking mess,” you groan, wiping the bubbles from your forehead. “Sorry. I didn’t mean that. I don’t want to be your friend again just because of our parents, that was just the only way I could think of to bring up the topic and yeah, I should’ve thought this out, I’m a fucking idiot.”
“Didn’t you get into one of the most prestigious research camps in the country?” Juyeon counters, hands moving automatically to take the towel from you and wiping off the suds himself. “You’re not an idiot.”
“Yes, I am.” You sigh. “I think it’d be nice to be friends again. If that’s fine with you.”
With your words fluttering in his heart, it takes Juyeon a good moment to realize he’s been standing with the towel pressed against your head for a full few seconds. Heat rising to his ears (he hopes you don’t see that), he quickly wipes off the last of the bubbles and returns the towel to the rack. “That’d be nice,” he echoes softly. “I’d like that.”
The smile you give him, tentative but much wider than before, makes Juyeon feel like he’s flying. He’s so far gone, he thinks, drying the last dish. He’s only seen you again for a few hours, and already your smile has him feeling some kind of way.
He’d follow that smile, he thinks. He’d follow that smile anywhere, just like one of the sunflowers on your lawn outside chasing the sun from dawn to dusk. That’s all he is, after all. A sunflower, following the light of your smile.
And as you look up, eyes scrunched as he says something to make you laugh, Juyeon doesn’t think he minds.
Not in the slightest.

“y/n!” Jay called from the door.
Backstage was crowded with people bustling from left to right, preparing for the next performance. Jay stood tall and searched the crowd for the face of his girlfriend.
His saving grace, y/n’s bandmate, saw Jay and caught her attention, motioning her to the door where Jay was. She smiled and quickly maneuvered past the staff members to stand in front of him.
“Hey,” she smiled. “Good job on your performance, by the way, you looked really good up there.” She paused.“But why are you here? I have like… five minutes until I need to be on stage.”
“Thank you.” Jay nodded and pushed his hands into his pockets. “And I know, but Heeseung-Hyung said I needed to tell you this as soon as possible.”
“Okay! Can we just go over there? It’s really hard to hear you,” She motioned for him to follow her to a space behind some boxes of equipment. “Can you help me?” She said with the sweetest smile, and Jay felt his heart crack a little more down the middle. She held out the wires for her mic pack, which he took quickly and turned her around.
“So, we’ve been dating for a long time,” Jay started as he plugged the wires into the small black box on the waistband of her shorts. “You know, it’s almost our one-thousand days.”
y/n giggled and nodded.  “Five more days, yeah.”
Jay took a breath and pursed his lips as he pulled her hair to the side, exposing soft skin on the back of her neck. He bit back every urge he had to rest his head there and adjusted her mic before turning her around to face him. “Well, don’t you think it’s been a little too long?”
y/n’s eyebrows furrowed together, surely ruining her makeup and creating creases.  “What are you trying to say?”
“Just… don’t you think it’s time to focus on ourselves? We’re progressing with our lives and-”
y/n’s scoff cut him off. “Just say you’re bored of me, Jay. Just say it.” Her tone had taken a complete shift from what it had sounded like mere seconds ago.
“That’s not what I’m saying, y/n.” He sighed. “I just want you to be happy, I want to be happy too.”
“But I am happy,” she rebutted.
“Not as happy as you could be. Our relationship is the same routine, nothing new is happening. I mean, I’ve finally debuted… don’t you think it’s about time for us to move on?”
y/n let out a laugh of disbelief. “Is that not what a relationship is supposed to be? We’re supposed to be comfortable… and you didn’t seem to have a problem with that when I debuted.”
“We can’t be together forever, y/n. That’s just not realistic,” Jay muttered and pursed his lips. y/n shook her head.
“And I thought…” she sighed and ran a hand through her freshly curled hair, ruining that too. “Whatever. I don’t have time for this,” she said, turning on her heel and walking toward the entrance of the stage right as the staff called her name. “We’re over, Jay. Have a good life.”
And with that, she walked on stage, a perfectly crafted smile on her face.
Tumblr media
Jay got back to his seat just by the time the music started.
“Did you do it?” Sunghoon asked with hesitancy.
Jay nodded and turned to the stage. Automatically, his eyes flickered towards y/n, as though it was an impulse. To any normal person, she would look fine. Happy, even. Her makeup didn’t look creased and her hair looked fine; she looked beautiful as always. She was smiling when she sang her part, she shone just as brightly as her other members. However, Jay knew her better than anyone; he could see the sadness mixed with anger in her eyes. But she was a professional, and as always, managed to mask her feelings with the factory manufactured expressions on her face.
“Was she mad?” Niki asked from beside Jay. He turned to Niki and shrugged.
“I think so.”
“You should have waited,” Sunoo muttered. “Telling her right before her performance was a dirty move, even for you.”
Jay scoffed, “What is that supposed to mean?”
Just as Sunoo opened his mouth to contradict, Jungwon placed his hands on both of their shoulders. “Stop fighting, guys. You can discuss all you want back at the dorms. Just not in public, people are watching.”
The other members watched Jay roll his eyes and turn his attention back to the performance.
The song was reaching its end; the climax, y/n’s part. She was singing with passion and fervor, Jay would even go as far to say that she sounded, and looked, better than ever. The tears in her eyes made it all the more powerful.
And then, just like that, it was over. Her chest heaved as she smiled at the camera. There was an emotion on her face that he couldn’t quite place, but it didn’t matter, because they were over. He would never see her face again.
Tumblr media
y/n laid in her bed, watching the dust specks glide through the sunlight, landing upon her bedsheets. There, strewn upon them, was the black sweatshirt of Jay’s that reminded her of all the things she had a day ago. It reminded her of everything she lost over one simple conversation.
Part of her wished she had ignored him at that doorway; she wished she didn’t take him to a quieter area, she wished she didn’t ask him for help with her mic pack, she wished she hadn’t even let him speak. Maybe then, the conversation would’ve been saved for a better day.
She was confused; why did he break up with her? It was so out of the blue, so random. It hadn’t even occurred in her mind that they would ever break up. y/n had never experienced a break up before. Was it normal to feel this bad?
She knew, upon hearing her friends’ ailments, that it sucked. But y/n had never realized the true meaning of heartbreak until now. But she wasn’t crying… was she supposed to cry? Was she supposed to feel something? Right now, she only felt numb. Like she was a speck of dust floating in the cold winter sunlight and falling onto her bedsheets.
There was a soft knock on her door. Silence for a second, then another series of knocks, followed by the door opening. Due to the layout of her room, she couldn’t see the door, nor the person coming inside. She thought it was one of her members again, telling her to come to eat or drink some water, to go shower or use the bathroom, or even just get out of bed and change into something else to save her from wallowing in a well of sadness. What she didn’t expect, however, was the gentleness of the leader of Enhypen, one of her closest friends.
“y/n,” his voice was warm, just like the hesitant hand on her shoulder. “You need to get up.”
Her body turned so she could face him. He looked tired; dark bags under his eyes. His irises were lacking their usual stars, and his lips were pale. What happened to him?
“Are you okay?” were the first words that left her lips from last night. Her throat was dry, it felt like sandpaper. It showed in her voice; the scratchiness of it.
Jungwon sighed and sat on the edge of her bed. “This isn’t about me, noona. Minju called and told me you haven’t even gotten out of bed since after the show last night.” He brought his face closer to hers with his eyebrows turned down. “Did you even take off your makeup?”
She shook her head.
He sighed again. For a sixteen-year-old, Jungwon sighed more than a disappointed old man. “Please get out of bed. You’ll die at this rate.”
A hoarse giggle escaped her throat and she ran her hands down her face. “I think that’s a little overdramatic.”
“No, I’m serious! For real… I thought you guys would be able to take care of yourselves. Turns out a kid two years younger than you has to take care of you because you’re both too stupid to do it yourself.”
“Hey!” she sat up in her bed. “That’s rude, Jungwon.”
“You know what’s rude?” Jungwon said. “Ignoring your basic human needs and making the people close to you worried!” Jungwon never raised his voice, let alone at someone who was older than him.  Was he really this worked up? “It’s nearly four P.M, noona. You haven’t eaten anything since last night. At least Jay-Hyung is doing better than you… at least he got up. Even if he’s so upset that he’s been playing games all day, at least he’s taking care of himself.”
y/n’s face twisted to annoyance. “Upset?” she scoffed. “Why in the name of God would he be upset? He’s the one who broke up with me.”
“You don’t think he feels bad?”
Silence engulfed the room. y/n had known Jay for three years, dated him for two. In all that time of knowing him, one thing was for certain; he always tried his best to not show his negative emotions. That was one of the things that tested their relationship almost constantly. He never told her when he was upset because he knew she would feel guilty for it. He never wanted to hurt her, even though it ended up hurting her more by finding out through other people. Even now, they experience the same thing.
“Then why did he break up with me?” y/n’s voice was small. “We were happy… at least I thought we were. He even planned a big date for our one-thousand days on Monday,” she didn’t realize her voice was shaking until Jungwon pulled her into a hug.
“I think the only way you’ll be able to figure out the answers to everything is if you talk to him yourself. I can comfort you, but you won't be able to get closure unless you talk to him.”
y/n pulled away and shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t think I can get more upset than this so…” she trailed off. “Maybe it’s worth a shot? Besides, I have a lot of stuff to do and I can’t let this plague my mind anymore otherwise I’ll get in trouble with my manager,” she let out a teary laugh. Jungwon giggled with her and nodded his head.
“You can come with me back to the dorm. But only after you get ready and eat some food.”
Tumblr media
y/n sat on the grey futon in the boys’ living room. She had been there several times ever since they had moved in, but something was different this time; Jay wasn’t sitting beside her. It felt wrong sitting on the center cushion without the warmth of a body beside her. Well, there were actually two boys sitting beside her trying to cheer her up, but it didn’t feel the same.
“He’ll be back in an hour or so,” Heeseung had told her. “He and Niki went out to get some groceries.”
y/n watched as Sunghoon chased Sunoo around the living room with a spatula that held a fried egg (one that y/n had actually cooked for them when she arrived. Why Sunghoon was chasing Sunoo rather than eating it was beyond her). Jungwon and Jake sat on either side of her, laughing at the ungraceful occurrence before them. Heeseung walked out of the bathroom and into the living room, running face-first into Sunghoon, who splatted the egg all over his shirt.
Amongst the commotion of y/n grabbing a towel to help Heeseung and Jake getting him a new shirt, the door opened and the two missing boys arrived in the apartment. Upon hearing Jay’s greeting of “We’re home!”, y/n frantically looked around the room for an escape. She resorted to hiding behind Sunghoon and Sunoo, who were bickering about who’s fault it was.
Too bad that Jay was as sharp as an eagle. He saw her the moment he and Niki walked into the living room.
The deafening silence that followed raised goosebumps on everyone’s skin. Jay looked over each of his members’ faces before finding the guilty look on Jungwon’s; a dead giveaway. Jay pressed his lips in a tight line before leaving the room, probably going to the kitchen to put away the groceries.
“Um…” Sunoo turned to y/n. “Maybe you should come back later… he looks like he’s in a bad mood,” he whispered.
“He’s only in a bad mood because Jungwon brought her here.”
“Well they need to talk, it’s not my fault he decided to end things that way.”
“He should’ve been more considerate of her feelings.”
Niki, who had been silent the entire time, walked over to y/n and opened his arms for a hug. It made her smile slightly. The youngest was always somewhat reserved around her. Maybe it was because she was a girl, or maybe it’s just because he didn’t know her as well as he would’ve liked. But he probably caught onto the fact that she wasn’t in a good headspace, and he was a good-hearted kid, so he just wanted to show her he cared.
“You should just talk to him now,” Niki said lowly. “Jay-Hyung!” he yelled, and all the other members looked at him in shock. “Come here!”
In seconds, Jay appeared in the doorway. The other boys looked around at each other before moving out of the way.
“We’ll give you guys some space,” Jake said softly before leaving the room. The others followed suit.
y/n stood in the middle of the room, looking at the patterned socks on her feet. Her large hoodie hung to her mid-thighs, covering the denim shorts she wore underneath. She was never too good at confrontation… it was scary and there were so many factors to consider. But she had to do it this time.
Jay stood in front of her and reached out to grab her hand, running his thumb across her knuckles, something he knew calmed her down in most situations. But right now, it only made her feel worse. Didn’t he hate her?
“What did you wanna talk about?” he said slowly, cautiously.
She breathed in quickly and looked up at him before speaking. “I just… I just need to know why. Why did you want to end things? Two people in love can’t just break up one day, you know? It has to have been some build-up. What was it? What did I do?”
Jay hummed and looked down at their connected hands. “I was going to just continue on the lie I told you back at the show but,” he paused and shook his head, looking back up at her. “I can’t keep lying to you. It kills me too much.”
y/n looked confused. “What does that mean?”
“You know how when I got the chance to be in the show, they didn’t really like the idea of us dating?”
She nodded, a signal for him to continue.
“Well, the company said that now that I’ve debuted, it’s an even bigger problem. It would be fine if you weren’t an idol, but you are. And they don’t like how famous you are compared to us, I guess?” Jay looked torn. y/n’s group was one of the most popular girl groups on the charts. “They think that people will find out about our relationship, and that will bring down our reputation, apparently.”
“Seriously?” y/n pulled her hand from his. “That’s… the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard.”
“I’m not lying, baby. I would never lie to you about this.”
y/n walked backward before sitting on the couch and putting her face in her hands. “It’s not that I don’t believe you, Jay. It’s just… that’s so stupid. Why would they make you break up with me now? Why didn’t they talk about this earlier? And why didn’t you just tell me? I would’ve understood.” She sounded hurt. Understandable, considering the words leaving his mouth. “I, of all people, would understand. I know how important this is to you. Don’t you think I would’ve listened if you just told me the truth?”
“I just thought that if I made up something, it would be easier for you to move on. Because now, you know I never lost feelings for you. I just can’t bring my group down incase anything ever got out to the public.”
y/n’s lips quivered. “So… so that’s it then?” her voice was threatening to crack. Her throat was tight and sore, and it felt like if she made one wrong move she would break. “We’re just going to end things like this?”
“What other choice do we have? I don’t want you to get caught involved with a scandal… That would ruin your career more than it would mine.”
She sniffled. “I just wish that things were different.”
“Hey,” he stepped closer to her. “Please don’t cry. It won’t be fair to both of us.”
He was right, as he always was. She couldn’t cry; it wouldn’t be fair. Because life was never fair to them. It pushed them to the extremes and they always came back intact, holding each other tightly so they wouldn’t lose the pieces. Like when her grandfather was sick, or when Jay had to move away. When they couldn’t contact each other for months, or when she got injured when he was gone. Life was unfair, but they had to make it through.
Her heart was unsettled, thumping weakly against her chest as she stared up at the boy. His platinum blond hair brushed over his eyes and she moved it away. He gently smiled down at her.
She wanted to close her eyes and pretend everything that happened was fake; she wanted to wake up from this nightmare of a reality. But she knows she can’t. So her eyes searched his face as she remembered everything they’ve done together; everything he’s made her feel. Her heart was shattering all over again, each piece a memory from her life with him that she would have to move on from. Each piece that she would have to pick up when he left because they were too valuable to be left on the ground.
But no matter what, y/n would not cry, because it wouldn’t be fair for Jay.
“Not crying.” she nodded her head. Tears pooled around the corner of her eyes. Jay could see them, and his heart trembled a little. But he has to do this, for both of them. It wasn’t fair, it never would be. They didn’t sign up for this when they signed those contracts. But this is what they needed to do, and upon seeing that she listened and supported him, he didn’t want to make it any harder for her than it already was.
Jay smiled a teary, broken smile. He sniffled and blinked away the tears beginning to sting at his own eyes. He nodded his head in agreement and reached his hand out to run his fingers through her messy hair. His heart wanted one thing, but his head told him something else. It would be okay for him to be selfish for a spare five seconds, right? It wouldn’t hurt, he guessed. So he leaned down and pressed a soft, sparing kiss on her lips. It was short, but it spoke more than a thousand words.
Please take care of yourself, please stay safe, stay healthy. Thank you for loving me, thank you for letting me love you. His soul tears a little when he pulls away, but he quickly holds himself together. He couldn’t break in front of her. It wouldn’t be fair.

what's your favorite thing about wong kar wai's movies? why do you like his movies so much?
wrote this in the notes app at 3am. this got very long. wkw’s one of my fave directors of all time
first of all, i did not like wong kar wai’s movies growing up. my first introduction to wong kar wai was with in the mood for love, and i always hated how slow the movie was—i could not understand the value of two middle aged people walking circles around each other on when i was eight years old. my mother was particularly fascinated with the movie and every few years or so she’d borrow it from the local library just to rewatch it by herself, or with me as an unwilling audience. maybe she just really liked tony leung like everyone else did, or i didn’t understand what she was going through back then. now, she watches it a lot less, but ironically i’m the one who watches it on a regular basis. when i look back, i realize my hatred of in the mood for love stemmed from my rejection of my mother when i was younger, along with anything related to my culture/heritage. it was my way of reconciling the isolation i felt in my new home at a young age—i thought that rejecting any part of my past would allow me to assimilate better (and for the most part it worked until senior year of high school give or take). i can say now that my former hatred/rejection of wong kar wai’s greatest work—his magnum opus—makes me appreciate him a lot more. like my mother taught me, it is best not to hate if you can love one day.
my real love and fascination for wong kar wai started when i was 18. the week after my first week of college finals, i watched his entire filmography (excluding anything post 2046) in one long sitting. i was exhausted from an accumulation of things: college did not go the way i expected and i hated science with a passionate sincerity by the end of the year. that year, i had also not chosen to go home.  regretted not just going back to vietnam a lot and i spent the entire first year of college just missing it. i was mentally emotionally exhausted and homesick so i found immediate comfort and familiarity in wong kar wai’s films. all of wong kar wai’s films are based around the simple theme of connection, each character desires connection with another —whether through strangers like in chungking express or estranged lovers in a foreign city like in happy together. every character is lost in their own world of loneliness, but they’re not consumed by it as they constantly venture out to find a cure for their loneliness. there’s a sort of warm tenderness to their eternal loneliness. wong kar wai’s characters are all very simple, but that just makes them the more normal. he adds an amusing, yet charming aspect to a lot of his characters, which makes them all the more real. at the end of the day, they’re the most ordinary of people, but framed in wong kar wai’s romantic vision of the world. for me, i can see myself in a lot of his characters, especially as i’ve now settled myself into my twenties.
most of all, wong kar wai’s movies remind me of home a lot. more than anything. vietnamese cinema barely exists, and his films of hong kong are one of the only threads of my childhood memories captured in film. in his films, his characters loneliness stems from an urban isolation and a desire to find home. how can one constantly be surrounded by people, yet feel so lonely?  90s hong kong reminds me a lot of early 2000s saigon, right before true modern urbanization began to take foot. the saigon i return to now is not the place i grew up in, everything i once knew with familiarity has become foreign (you could argue the same for hong kong too). like both the main characters in happy together, i’m very much far away from home now, but what makes it worse is i don’t have a home to return to anymore despite it still being there. the isolation i feel here is much less comforting than the familiar isolation of asia, it’s an entirely distinct feeling i’ve come to differentiate. the night version of hong kong in fallen angels reminds me very much of saigon at night when i was little—when i would cling to my aunts back on the motorcycle. even more, hong kong at night is an unmistakable feeling—a true moment of limbo that you can experience nowhere else as the city seems to slow to a stop before starting up again (the dim sum scene in fallen angels reminds me of my uncle taking me with him to smalls shops buried deep in hong kong’s markets. in my opinion, the most crowded, dirty, loud places have the best food).
one of the things i also love the most about wong kar wais films are they are essentially “of an era.” context heavily influences his films, and watchers should understand that his best films are primarily made in the decade of hong kong’s handover from the uk to china.  looking back now, his films are representative of the end of hong kong pop culture culture. they’re the last threads of a former culture powerhouse in asia—hk cantopop, film, and tv throughout the late 70s to 90s had an immense influence on asian pop culture today. everybody knew and loved hong kong, because it was the only true source of quality pop culture in an age of barely any in asia. hong kong was the beginning of everything essentially. kpop even, i would argue, would not be what it is today without cantopop—many idols are modeled after the cantopop idols of the 80s along with western influence. it’s sad to see that hong kong’s impact has been increasingly erased over the past 20 or so years—hong kong is now a shell of it’s former self as it can never return to its former glory. wong kar wai’s greatest films are chungking express, fallen angels, happy together, and in the mood for love. they’re all made in the years predating or after the handover, and you can see the differences in feeling of each film as it nears 1997. happy together, aside from being a somewhat tragic love story, is also the tragedy of hong kong. the handover of 1997 seems to haunt that film as the characters are also far way from hong kong; they’re on the other side of the world. there’s a sense of fear and desperation that runs parallel to the main love story and i feel like people don’t see that the first time without an understanding of historical context. chungking express and fallen angels are two sides of hong kong—hong kong by day and by night—they’re wong kar wai’s love letter to hong kong itself before it disappears in the subsequent years (which it has sadly). both of those movies are time capsules of an era, they capture an atmosphere that is now gone in hong kong. 2046 is an extension of those four movies above—an imagining of how hong kong would be be 99 years after the “end” of hong kong as it is in 1997. and finally, wong kar wai’s greatest work is in the mood for love. it’s his magnum opus, and the true end of an era: for wong kar wai’s creative capacity, for hong kong pop culture, for the actors themselves. wong kar wai has been unable to follow in the mood for love successfully with other directorial features, it’s a masterpiece in itself in its inability for recreation. the movie speaks for itself, even maggie subsequently quit acting shortly afterwards because she felt she could never top that role—it was the end of her acting career in terms of era. everything that wong kar wai put out in the 90s is of an era, it cannot and never be repeated or recreated just as the old hong kong is gone (which is why his attempt to make sequels for those movies with blossoms and the chungking express sequel will be futile. wong kar wai does not realize that that era has indeed passed (and his his break up with christopher doyle has proved to be fatal for both of them).
finally, a small addition about wong kar wai as a director himself. he’s a cancer, very true to his nature, which explains how he can so fluidly translate and portray emotion in his films. they’re almost overflowing with tender emotion, but very much so in an implicit manner. i could never do that in anything i create, it’d end up being very much lynchian in manner, which makes me appreciate his films a lot more. moreover, wong kar wai has a certain way, an intimacy with all his actors. he brings out the best in them for only his movies, and that’s what makes him so special. also, i relate a lot to wong kar wai’s method of working ..the man is one of the worst procrastinators he’s worse than me. he almost never plans or writes scripts for his movies. most of his films especially in the 90s are very much “go with the flow” improvisation (u can see that the characters are very much the actors even it’s hard to distinguish). he was editing in the mood for love up to the last minute before final submission for cannes, that’s just how much of a procrastinator he was and why it’ll take him a million years to release the chungking express sequel. it’s amazing to think how all of these great movies from wong kar wai are technically equivalent to 2000 word essays submitted a minute past the deadline. what i imagine is how different would his work be if he’d planned ahead (how much better would my essays be if i didn’t write them at 3am?). but i guess we can all see how much he’s changed in the release of his criterion collection—-he’s not the person he once was and he can’t recreate the past.
if u read this far i love you thank u for reading my inarticulate nonsense thoughts. i hope u like wong kar wai a lot more than before

You are the one who will give meaning to my memories: A word from Genius Lab USA
Tumblr media
Published Friday, December 31st, 2021 — The goal has always been to build a brand that people recognize. Genius Lab USA and halfseoul started on Instagram, the result of a realization that I had a different kind of perspective to offer and the determination to carve a place for myself within the fandom spaces that I currently occupy. I always have more to say beyond what makes it into my social media captions, soft blocked by character count limits but never by the flow of words that stream unfiltered from the corners of my mind.
Not long ago, I decided that if the deliberate ignorance of non-Korean KPOP fans was going to bother me that much, then I should at least do something about it or risk ruining my enjoyment of the fandoms for good. Some people are always going to choose to only see things the way they want to see them, but there is also a larger number of people who are open to learning, to considering new points of view. 2021 was the year that my goals really took definitive shape and I started taking the actions towards making sure they saw the light of day. Even though I desperately wanted to reach that coveted milestone of 10,000 followers on Instagram, I ended up leaving the account where I had first started showcasing my collection and started from scratch on a brand new account, which was what I needed—a clean slate to build something stronger from the ground up and attract the kind of audience that actually cares about the content I create and the words I have to share. Now I really know who looks forward to my posts every single day—or who waits patiently for me when I skip a day—who leaves encouraging comments when I express hardships, who is invested in the stories I weave and the characters I mold.
Although I tentatively had some ideas when I moved to my current place of residence in September of last year, Genius Lab USA as you all know it now didn’t fully grow into its potential until maybe a few months ago. Now that renovations have more or less been completed, it is finally the creative studio that I always envisioned it would be—even though at its core, it’s just my bedroom with some furniture and some things. I made significant progress in my various collections, upgraded the look and style of certain areas, and created Genius Lab USA Media as a digital publication for fans of Korean pop culture. But 2021 is also the year in which I really solidified my own identity—as a Korean, as a Korean-American, as a half-Korean, and as a writer. More than labels i simply slap on, they have all played their part in how I see myself and how I choose to present myself to others. Maybe some people only care about the fact that I’m Korean and that’s something that’s bothered me since I returned to KPOP in 2018, but I’ve always cared more about that fact than about the people who view me that way. Being Korean does afford me the kind of authority that prompts people to listen to me, but I will never forget that what I have in common with the people who listen to me is that we enjoy the same things: Korean music and culture.
These past two years living in a world impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic has perhaps turned me into the most extreme version of my own personality. I for introverted—I definitely withdrew more, spent a lot more of my time with myself instead of making plans or seeking out contact with others, even if it was only via text. N for introspective—I took a lot of time to evaluate myself, my actions, my wants, my strengths, my weaknesses—a two-year period of self-reflection that brought me more in touch with aspects of myself that I had previously been unaware of. T for thinking—although I’ve always been a head over heart person, I made the conscious decision to stop being as invested in how other people make me feel. I’ve never been particularly expressive about my emotions; I don’t like to be touched and I use the crying emoji far more often than I actually shed tears. J for judging—I left little room for people or things that would disrupt the routine i keep for myself, anyone or anything that would shake things up for me. If I’m being blatantly honest, I stopped caring about what was going on with most of the world outside of my very small bubble and I stopped missing people, even the ones I actually like. While I know that those closest to me would never expect me to change who I am, I know that the past couple of years have made me the coldest, most unfeeling person that I am capable of being. I like to think that I’ve started to thaw—and that’s thanks to all of you.
Genius Lab USA has never been about the validation of others, but at the same time, I’m not keeping a diary—I’m writing because I have things to say, things that I want people to know. Without an audience, i have no feedback, no way to know if my messages are being received. Without all of you, I would just be muttering to myself like a crazy person (although you know what they say about crazy and genius being two sides of the same coin). So whether you followed me from my first account of 6,000+ to my current account of 400+, or your first experience with me was after my move, I want you all to know that I deeply appreciate each and every single one of you. Genius Lab USA continues to keep moving forward because you give me reasons to keep it moving forward.
2022 is a year that I am dedicating to me, my passions, my hard work, my goals—but also to you, because when my dreams come true, it will be something we celebrate together. Thank you for coming this far with me, I hope you will continue to stay by my side far into the future.

8:24 | Irene
Genre: angst, fluff
Wordcount: 5,665
Request: Hey I am really the feel for angst, so can you have like an argument with Irene and a lot of angst happens there but then eventually Irene is the one who apologizes and a bit of fluff?
A/N: I had planned to post a short scenario on her birthday, but then i couldn’t stop writing... oops. But oh well, happy belated birthday to this queen.
Tumblr media
„I’m home!“
You yelled when you opened the door to your apartment, but you didn’t even know why you still bothered. You knew that you would be met by nothing but silence. Your wife only came home to sleep at night. Although sometimes she even failed to do that and slept in Red Velvet’s dorm, because they had a late practice or something.
You sighted loudly and made your way to the bedroom where you changed into some comfortable clothes before starting to prepare dinner in the kitchen. Like usual you set the table for two, only causing you to get even more depressed when you ended up eating alone. To distract yourself from the twitching in your heart, you started to scroll through Instagram.
You didn’t want to be mad at Irene. Being apart from you was exactly as hard for her as it was for you. Often you had to cheer her up, because she felt guilty for not being the wife that she wished she could be. But you assured her every time that you had known from the start what you would sign up for.
Nevertheless, you couldn’t stop yourself from getting sad sometimes. It was only 8 pm on a warm summer evening. The sun was still fighting its defeat in the sky and when you looked out the window, you could see that the streets were still buzzing with life. You would give everything to be able to grab Irene and drive to the Han river to have a romantic stroll or to get some ice cream.
Your mind started to paint different scenarios of the two of you in your head, causing your heart to get even heavier. But you quickly shook your head to stop yourself from daydreaming. Just because you couldn’t enjoy a normal wedded life, didn’t mean that you couldn’t enjoy the best years of your life at all. There was nothing that you couldn’t do on your own.
Therefore, you quickly put on a pair of jeans, your shoes and a light jacket before leaving your house, although a little voice in your head told you not to go outside. You had gotten used to the fact that your wife was famous and that she couldn’t leave the house like she wanted to. What you hadn’t got used to, however, was the fact that people knew you too by now. After all, you dated Korea’s original visual. After your wedding, Irene had announced that she was married to a non-idol, because she was tired of the rumors about her dating fellow idols. No one knew who you were though.
But then some smart fans had started to put the puzzle pieces together. Irene and you had dated for a long while, so of course, you had accompanied her on her tours or went on dates together occasionally. And although there weren’t any photos that were showing the two of you holding hands or kissing, you could be seen in several pictures at the airport or at events in the background. It didn’t take long for the netizens and sasaengs to figure that out.
And from one day to another, your face was everywhere in the internet. People started talking about you and when you left for work the following day, some people suddenly stared at you, trying to figure out why you looked so familiar. You were somewhat famous yourself from that day on.
But you still hadn’t got used to that fact. Irene always told you to not leave the apartment without a disguise. Actually, the best would probably be to never leave it at all, if not for work or any other absolutely necessary occasions. Nevertheless, you didn’t listen to your wife.
You were young and married to a person that was rarely home. What were you supposed to do at home all this time? Therefore, you often just met friends downtown or went shopping. Till now, nothing catastrophic had happened yet. Most times no one recognized you. And even if someone did, you always had luck till now and could flee the scene, before anyone could take any pictures or attack you.
Therefore, you ignored your bad conscious another time when you shut the door of your apartment and happily called an Uber to bring you to Hongdae. You were tired of being alone and you knew that you could never feel alone in that part of town.
But apparently you had pushed your luck today. You had already strolled through several clothing stores, shopping for something to lift your mood, when you suddenly couldn’t get rid of the feeling that someone was watching you. At first, you chose to ignore it, but then you eventually tried to catch a glimpse behind you. Only a few steps apart from you, you could see two girls that seemed to be looking at the jewelry in front of them. But when you turned around another time, you caught their gazes flickering over the edge of the items in their hands and eventually landing on you.
“Shit.”
You muttered under your breath.
Quickly, you left the store, but when you turned around as soon as you were outside, you realized that the girls had followed you. And it seemed like your misfortune only started now. They were joined by some other girls in school uniforms and shamelessly pointed at you.
“That’s Y/N. The one married to Irene.”
You could hear their shrill voices, causing you to speed up.
But apparently, they didn’t care about your discomfort.
“Y/N!!”
One of them suddenly yelled, making all the heads of the people around you turn. Your face turned bright right and you ducked your head low. Suddenly it felt like everyone was staring at you. You needed to get out of there. With big steps, you walked to the place where the driver had dropped you off earlier. But it seemed like the damage was already done.
“Y/N can you give this to Irene?”
“How is it to be married to Irene?”
“You’re not even pretty enough for her.”
Comments reached your ear from left and right, causing you to almost run. Quickly you typed in the number of one of Irene’s drivers. You definitely couldn’t risk an Uber driver to leak your address. Gladly he picked up after the second ring and was willing to pick you up.
You needed to turn several circles around the block, because as soon as you stopped, several people started to swarm you and to give you gifts for your wife. But at last, you received a message, telling you that he was waiting for you. When you finally saw the car, you sighted in relief and basically dove into it.
“Thanks for the lift.”
You grinned sheepishly once you were seated, feeling a little embarrassed that you had to be saved like some unexperienced teenager.
“You know that Irene will kill you right?”
The driver said dryly while glancing at you through the rearview mirror and your grin died down.
He was right. Irene had warned you often enough, but you had always played it down. You knew how concerned she was about you and that she didn’t want to be involved in any scandals. But could she blame you for wanting a little distraction? You remained silent the rest of the ride, thinking about how long your wife would need to figure out that you had carelessly left the apartment. The news were probably already on some fanpages.
After the driver had dropped you off at your apartment complex, you looked on your phone.
10 pm
Irene was probably not home yet. At least you hoped so. When you opened the door to your apartment, you were proven to be right. No one was home.
Having enough excitement for the day, you quickly changed into your pajamas and went to bed. You couldn’t stop your brain from working though. Curiosity seized you and you wanted to know whether you had made the news yet. You opened Twitter, starting to scroll through your wife’s tags and you didn’t have to search long until you actually could find pictures of you.
Some posts were nice. People complimented your style or were happy to see that you were still down-to-earth, despite dating one of the most famous idols in Kpop. Some posts, however, weren’t that nice and you knew that Irene would be very upset by them.
Hopefully she would never see them. Especially one video was alarming. You hadn’t even realized it in the heat of the moment, but some of the fans had actually shoved you in the turmoil. If your wife saw that, she would probably snap. She was really overprotective. You just had to hope that she would be too busy to check her phone the next days.
Your hopes were crushed though, when you could suddenly hear the front door of your apartment slam. Someone wasn’t in a good mood. Quickly you put your phone on the nightstand before grabbing a book and pretending to be immersed in it. No ten seconds later, the door to the bedroom opened and your clearly upset wife was staring at you.
“Can you explain to me what that is?”
She asked sternly while walking closer to you with her phone in her hand.
The screen showed -of course- the worst video of all and you gulped.
“That’s a really flattering angle, don’t you think?”
You tried to lighten the mood, but Irene only seemed to be even more angered by your statement.
“This situation is not funny, Y/N. Do you know what could have happened? Do you see how they are pushing you? How often have I told you, not to go strolling around the city?”
You felt like a kid being scolded by their mother. And you couldn’t even defend yourself this time.
“That’s it. You’re not going to leave the apartment from now beside for work until I figure out a way to protect you.”
Irene stated determined, but you looked at her with wide eyes.
“Excuse me?”
You asked perplexed, but Irene only crossed her arms.
“What? You won’t listen to me. And I won’t just watch how some sasaengs insult and hurt you.”
Her intentions were good, but you could still feel anger starting to bubble inside of you.
“Irene, I’m an adult. I think, I can look after myself.”
You responded but your wife only scoffed.
“I could see that today.”
She said cynically, making you even angrier. You wouldn’t let her treat you like some child.
“What do you expect me to do? Stay in the apartment all day by myself, while my wife is out there enjoying herself?”
You spat out, suddenly feeling all the piled-up frustration rising to the surface.
Irene’s expression changed in a matter of seconds. Her annoyance faded and was replaced by hurt instead.
“Do you think I want to be away all the time?”
The bewilderment in her voice was unmistakable, but you had reached a point beyond reason now. First, you were left alone all the time and now she wanted to restrict your independence?
“You sure don’t look like someone making an effort to change the situation.”
You scoffed, causing Irene to look at you with her mouth half-open in disbelief.
“I-I think we should continue this conversation tomorrow when everyone has cooled down a bit.”
She stuttered in a desperate attempt to prevent this fight from escalating even more.
But you didn’t want her to be rational right now. You wanted to hear from her that she wouldn’t leave you alone anymore. Irene, however, just kept standing there, staring at you wordlessly.
Disappointed, you huffed before leaping to your feet and grabbing your pillow and blanket.
“What are you doing?”
Irene asked perplexed but you just stormed past her.
“I can’t stand seeing you anymore.”
You yelled over your shoulder before angrily plopping down on the couch.
With your arms crossed and a pout on your lips, you laid down, trying to fall asleep, although you knew that you would need at least an hour to stop your mind from racing.
--
Irene sighted as she got into the empty bed. She knew that it had been irrational to forbid you to leave the apartment. You weren’t her property after all. But she didn’t have the capacity to worry about you these days. Red Velvet was preparing for their tour while recording new songs. There were just so many things in her head right now. She needed to be able to trust you that you didn’t get yourself in any trouble.
Nevertheless, she needed to apologize tomorrow. It hadn’t been right to snap at you like that. Her plan was to make you breakfast and talk calmly about a solution to this mess. But after she had groggily turned off her alarm clock the next morning after having only slept a maximum of two hours due to the lack of warmth next to her, she found the living room empty.
“Y/N?”
She called your name, but no one answered.
Your shoes were gone too. You must have already left for work. Which was unusual, because you normally always left after her. Irene could feel a headache starting in her temples and sat down at the kitchen table to eat some breakfast, hoping that this would make her feel better. Although she knew too well that she could only feel better after talking to you.
Therefore, the rest of the day was a pain for her. She couldn’t concentrate and was annoyed by her members without a reason. Everyone was glad when the producer decided to let them go early, because he saw no point in working any longer as nothing productive was the outcome anyways.
“I’m sorry girls. But I need to get home to Y/N.”
Irene quickly excused herself, before letting the driver bring her to your apartment. She was thinking about buying you chocolate or some other apologetic gift on the way but decided against it in the end. She was sorry, but she also felt that she was right to some extent.
Nevertheless, she thought that she could soften your heart, because today would actually be the first time in weeks that she came home before 8 pm. Irene smiled lightly to herself when she imagined how you would try to be mad at her, but couldn’t contain your happiness when you saw her walking through the door. But Irene’s plan was defeated when she entered the apartment and heard another women’s laugh.
Taken aback she silently made her way to the origin of the sound and found you sitting in the living room with someone she didn’t know. You were grinning widely, and the woman held her belly while laughing, but as soon as you saw her, your expression turned to stone. The woman followed your stern gaze and her eyes eventually landed on Irene.
She looked at you questioningly and you cleared your throat.
“Yuri that’s my wife Irene. Irene that’s my colleague Yuri.”
You shortly introduced the two women that were looking at each other curiously.
“Your wife?”
Yuri asked a little confused and Irene felt irritation starting to bubble inside of her.
“Yeah, you know that I’m married.”
You chuckled while looking at her questioningly.
“Oh yeah, of course. I just though the two of you had split up, because you kinda never talk about her anymore. And you always whine about how much you hate to be alone.”
Your gaze snapped up at Irene and you looked really uncomfortable. Realizing that she had grazed a touchy subject, Yuri quickly shut her mouth and coughed awkwardly.
“Um... I just remember that I have a dinner engagement.”
She stammered, but you quickly leaped to your feet when you saw that she wanted to leave.
“You don’t have to go, Yuri.”
You said apologetically, but Irene saw that a little differently.
“I’m sorry, but I think you have to.”
She said while crossing her arms and Yuri quickly nodded before walking to the exit.
You followed her to send her off but returned a few minutes later with a stern expression.
“I’m sorry. Aren’t I no longer allowed to have friends over as well?”
Your voice was quivering in anger, but Irene didn’t react to your statement. She didn’t want to fight. Yuri’s comment from earlier was still playing in her head on a loop and Irene’s heart ached every time, she thought about how you must have felt all this time.
“I’m sorry, Y/N.”
Irene sighted while sitting down on the couch and massaging her temples.
You stayed quiet for a while, but then she could hear you sitting down on the armchair across from her.
“For what exactly, Irene? Kicking my friend out of our apartment, forbidding me to leave the house or neglecting our relationship?”
Your words felt like a slap in her face and Irene didn’t dare to look at you.
“For everything. But I’m just trying to make everything right.”
Irene almost whispered, causing you to sigh.
“I know you do. But maybe there is no way to make this right.”
You responded and after hearing your tone, Irene’s eyes snapped up.
“What do you mean?”
She asked, feeling panic rising inside of her.
“You’re not a bad person, Irene. I know that you love me, and I love you. But maybe that’s not enough. How can we call this a marriage? I barely even see you. Something must be missing.”
You explained, causing Irene’s breath to hitch in her throat.
“No, no, no. There’s nothing missing. What are you talking about? Y/N, what are you trying to say?”
Tears started to fill her eyes, but you remained silent.
“Y/N...”
She breathed, but you suddenly got to your feet.
“I need to think. Please don’t follow me.”
You said coldly, while already making your way to the door.
Irene quickly stood up, but you continued to walk away from her.
Like glued to the spot, she kept watching you disappear although she wanted to cling to you in order to hold you back. Something told her that you wouldn’t be coming back in the next hours.
Unfortunately, her gut had been telling the truth. It was already past midnight when Irene decided to go to bed although you hadn’t returned yet. Who knew if you would be coming home tonight at all? She had been drifting in and out of sleep for quite some time till she finally heard your key turn in the lock. In a matter of seconds, she was wide awake.
She decided not to move an inch though, because she was afraid that you wouldn’t come to bed if you knew that she was awake. She could hear you getting ready in the bathroom before the bed lightly dipped, indicating that you had crawled into bed next to her. A sigh left her lips and she sat up halfway to be able to look at you. You were laying on your back and staring at the ceiling.
“Don’t give up on us, Y/N. We haven’t even really started our life together yet. We just have to make it through this, then we can do whatever we want in a few years.”
Irene begged you, but you didn’t look at her and remained silent.
“Please, Y/N. Give us a last chance.”
A sob almost escaped her lips, but she quickly pressed her lips together, not wanting to paint out the worst scenario yet.
Seconds passed that felt like hours, but eventually you sighted.
“Fine. I’m cooking tonight. 7 pm, Irene. If you’re not there, I’ll know what this relationship means to you.”
Irene gulped thickly because of the seriousness of your words, but at the same time she wanted to squeal in joy.
“I’m going to be there. I promise.”
She answered while her heart pounded like crazy. She couldn’t mess up today.
You turned your back to her, and Irene had to hold back the urge to scoot closer to you and hug you from behind. It was too early now, she had to prove her love first. But soon she could finally hold you in her arms again.
Although there weren’t a lot of hours left until Irene had to get up for work again, she final fell into a deep slumber, knowing that you were laying next to her. She only woke up when the annoying sound of her alarm clock made her jolt awake. Immediately she turned it off and looked to her side to make sure whether you were still there.
You were now facing her, but your eyes were still closed while your chest fell and rose in a steady rhythm. Irene had always loved waking up before you to be able to watch you sleep for a while. You looked so peaceful and content; not at all like someone who had been hurt by his wife so much that they were considering a divorce. Softly Irene ran her fingers through your hair, making sure not to wake you up. She couldn’t give up on you. Not if it meant to never be able to wake up next to you ever again. Irene kissed your forehead swiftly before swinging her legs out of bed and getting ready for her day.
During her schedule, Irene took a glance on her phone at least four times an hour. She was anxious that she would miss your date. The minutes dragged on although Red Velvet had one appointment after the other. With every second her worries began to increase.
Her schedule was supposed to end at 6 pm toady, but because some appointments didn’t end on time, everything was shifted back. It was already 5 pm and there were still two meetings left. Nervously, Irene pushed the conversations forward, hoping that she could still end her schedule on time. But things didn’t work like they were supposed to. Red Velvet was in the studio, recording a song and the producer just wasn’t satisfied with anything the girls recorded. He made them sing their parts over and over again.
6.15 pm
Irene almost let her phone fall in shock when she checked for the time after the producer had finally left the studio. She still had to drive home.
“Ok, girls. One more meeting, then we’re done for the day.”
Her manager smiled encouragingly, and Irene looked back and forth from her phone to her manager.
One more meeting? She could never make it on time if she stayed a minute longer at the company. But she also had responsibilities as a leader. Her members were counting on her, as was her company.
Irene needed to make a decision. What was more important? Her career or you?
“No, I’m leaving. Now.”
She suddenly blurted out, making all the people in the room look at her with wide eyes. There had never been a day that she had cancelled a meeting. But she knew that this was the right decision.
Proudly Irene grabbed her jacket and bowed to the staff and her members before turning on her heel to leave the room. She would always choose you. Above everything.
After a long time, her heart felt a lot lighter as she was getting into the car. Normally, she had a guilty conscious for being late. But today, she was on time and was looking forward to a nice dinner with you. A smile was playing on her lips while she typed a message for you to let you know that she was on her way home.
Just when she was about to send it, however, the car came to a halt.
“Why are we stopping?”
Irene asked perplexed and the driver looked at her apologetically through the rearview mirror.
“I’m sorry, Miss. But we’re stuck in traffic.”
He gestured to the front and Irene gasped in shock. There were hundreds of cars blocking the road.
“No, this can’t be.”
She muttered desperately while checking the time once again.
6.30 pm
“Can’t you take another route?”
Irene asked although she knew on her own that there was no other way.
Her driver truly seemed to be sorry as he shook his head with a sad look in his eyes.
Why did the universe hate her so much? Irene buried her face in her hands, praying to whoever was out there to magically make the cars in front of her disappear. But 20 minutes later, they were still pretty much standing on the same spot.
“When will we be home?”
Irene hoped that her driver could give her a good message, but his silent sigh told a different story.
“30 minutes if we’re lucky.”
He responded and Irene closed her eyes in disbelief.
Shakily she grabbed her phone and chose your contact to call you. She pressed her phone to her ear in hopes to be able to make her hear your voice instead of the ringing sound. But after a while, your voicemail ended the call. Over and over again, Irene dialed your number, but you just didn’t pick up.
7.01 pm
By now their car had finally left the blocked road, but Irene had also lost her nerves. Your warning had been clear. If she would be late, you would give up on your relationship. Nervously she tapped her foot waiting for the car to finally reach its destination. She was almost home, only one more street. Suddenly, however, the car stopped again.
“Why are we stopping again?”
She almost yelled a little exasperated but could see on her own that they were stuck in traffic again. Irene was fed up though. Nothing else would get in the way between her and you.
“Thanks for the ride. I’m walking the rest of the way.”
She mumbled while already opening the door and exiting the car. Her driver said something to her, but Irene couldn’t care less. It was all or nothing now. Life or death; at least figuratively.
Not caring about all the people throwing confused looks at her, Irene ran to your apartment where she impatiently pushed the button for the elevator. Her anxiety had filled her whole body though, so she was too impatient to wait till the elevator finally arrived. Quickly she swung open the door to the staircase and sprinted up to the right floor. When she finally reached the door to your apartment, Irene was completely out of breath, but she didn’t give herself the time to recover.
Without wasting another second, she unlocked the door and headed straight to the kitchen. But it was empty. Her heart was already pounding in her chest from the running, but now it was close to jumping out of her chest. Maybe you were in the bedroom. With rushed steps, Irene searched the rest of the apartment, but you were nowhere to be found. Desperate, she ran back to the kitchen, hoping that you had somehow appeared in the meantime. But all she could find was her favorite dish and a beautifully set table.
Tears started to form in Irene’s eyes, and she grabbed her hair in despair. She started to turn in circles, because she didn’t know what to do now, when another thing suddenly caught her attention. Irene stopped dead in track, staring at the counter.
“No, no, no. Please don’t.”
She mumbled while stumbling to the counter.
Shakily she picked up the item that had caught her attention. It was your wedding ring. There was nothing that could hold back Irene’s tears from falling now. She clasped the ring tightly and pressed it against her chest as loud sobs escaped her mouth.
“Y/N...”
She breathed, hoping that you would appear behind her out of thing air and wrap your arms around her.
You couldn’t, however, because you were gone.
“But not without a fight, Y/N. I won’t let you go that easily.”
Irene suddenly mumbled to herself when she realized that she had nothing to lose now. She had to try everything.
With the determination of winning you back in her heart, she turned on her heel and ran back the way that she had just walked a few minutes ago. This time she opted for the elevator though and took it to the underground garage. Of course, it was highly unlikely that you hadn’t left the building already, but Irene just had to try. Where else would she start searching for you?
Already feeling her lungs rebelling against the constant exertion, Irene ran one last time to get to your parking spot. After she had rounded the corner, she could see your car still standing there while the motor was running. Although her legs already felt like jelly, she quickened her steps another time.
“Y/N!!”
Irene yelled, not knowing what for, but her desperation, fear and sadness forbade her to think clearly.
When she reached the car, she saw you sitting motionlessly in the driver’s seat while tears streamed down your face. Desperately Irene banged against the car window.
“Don’t leave me, Y/N. I beg you.”
She cried out and your sobbing increased.
Irene tried to open the door, but the car was locked, and she rested her head against the glass in defeat.
“Please. Let me explain. I wanted to be here on time. I know this sounds like an excuse, but I was really stuck in traffic. Let us talk, Y/N. Please.”
She begged and you finally moved. You reached out to push the button that unlocked the doors but stopped shortly before touching it. Your eyes met hers and Irene looked longingly at you. You were torn. She could see it in your eyes. But the fact that you were still here also gave Irene hope. Apparently, you hadn’t completely given up on her. There was still something that was holding you back.
“Please, Y/N.”
She asked another time, causing you to finally press the button.
Quickly Irene ripped the door open before you would change your mind.
“Jagi, I’m so sorry. I swear that I was stuck in traffic. I might be a terrible wife, but I’m not a liar. I wanted to be here. I would never give up on our marriage. I love you, jagi. Please come back to the apartment.”
Your tears were still dripping down your chin and Irene automatically reached out to wipe them away.
“Let’s have dinner. And we can watch a movie afterwards. You can pick. Or you can go to the bedroom and I’ll sleep on the couch if you don’t want to see me. Just please don’t leave.”
Irene was cupping your face by now and her tears were leaving her eyes at the same pace as yours.
“Why did you have to be late?”
You suddenly sobbed and Irene couldn’t hold back her urge to pull you against her body. She wrapped her arms around your body and ran her hand in circles on your back in an attempt to calm you down.
“I know that I’m stupid. But I love you. I will never leave you. I promise.”
Irene tried to comfort you with her words while you were clinging to her body.
The two of you kept standing there in this position until both of you had finally calmed down.
“Did you really wanted to be here on time?”
You asked eventually with a shaky voice and Irene immediately nodded.
“Of course! There is nothing more precious to me on this earth than our marriage. I want to be able to call me your wife till my last day.”
She stated truthfully and you looked at her contemplatively.
“W-what about you?”
Irene stammered nervously, not knowing if she wanted to hear your answer.
“I also want to be able to call you my wife till my last day.”
Your stern face finally softened, and Irene instantly pulled you closer again.
“Please come home with me then. We can work this out. I can talk with my managers to rearrange my schedule and we can go on vacation after the tour. Whatever you want.”
She listed all the possibilities that came to her mind to solve this problem, hoping that she could convince you to follow her upstairs.
“We’ll see about the last part. But I would love to go home now.”
You smiled and Irene squeezed you a last time before helping you out of the car.
Together, the two of you took the elevator back to your apartment where you went into the kitchen to finally have the dinner that you had planned. But as soon as Irene had entered the room, she stopped abruptly, staring at the ring on the counter. You followed her gaze and started to nervously fidget with your fingers.
Hesitantly, Irene walked up to the counter to pick up the ring. Insecurely she shifted it in her hands, not knowing whether you were ready to fully commit to this marriage already. But when you held out your hand like the day of your wedding, a wide smile formed on Irene’s lips and she quickly stepped forward to put it on your finger.
Gently she stroked the metal band on the only place it was supposed to be before pressing her lips on it. You looked at her with a soft smile on your lips, causing Irene’s heart to flutter.
Together you heated the food again, before sitting down at the dinner table to have your long-awaited date. You started some innocuous chatter, creating a light atmosphere that didn’t permit the anguish from before to shine through. Irene looked at you while her heart felt full and happy. Noticing that you were being observed, you chuckled before reaching over the table to interlace your fingers and gently stroking the back of her hand.
8:24 pm
Everything was as it was supposed to be.

HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE: DIFFERENCES BETWEEN NOVEL AND MOVIE
HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE: DIFFERENCES BETWEEN NOVEL AND MOVIE
Link Video:
youtube
Opening
Following the resounding success of the 2001 animated classic Spirited Away, director Hayao Miyazaki continued to release a Japanese animated fantasy Howl’s moving castle. The film was inspired by the 1986 novel of the same name by British author Diana Wynne Jones.
Most Studio Ghibli fans turn to the book after watching the movie. This caused a little disappointment, a bit of “disillusionment” for the ladies who put too many dreams into the handsome wizard Howl in the movie. Although both the novel and the movie revolve around the two main characters – Sophie and Howl, there are huge differences in the storyline and character construction that cause both the novel and the film to turn in two directions.
Stay tuned with ASK KPOP until the end of the video to see what made “romantic fiction” fans disillusioned with the difference between novels and movies Howl’s moving castle.
Body
Sophie Hatter, a girl born into a family of hat makers, does not believe that luck will come to her and she will do something great in her life. She decided she would spend the rest of her life looking after the hat shop her father left. But her life changes after being cursed by the Witch of the Waste, turning her into an old woman, and worse yet, she can’t tell anyone about it. Fearing that her family would no longer recognize her, Sophie set out to find a way to cure the curse, and then arrived at Wizard Howl’s castle. Since then there is a big difference between books and movies, especially the plot and character lines.
The difference in the story between the novel and the movie
Because the novel Howl’s moving castle was written for children by writer Diana Wynne Jones, these factors such as : magic ,humor, fantasy come first. The content of the novel mainly tells about Sophie’s journey to break the curse. In that journey, Sophie has discovered the true strength of herself and the good qualities of those around her. However, when it was adapted to the big screen, director Hayao Miyazaki incorporated many lofty messages about love, peace, and anti-war.
Throughout the movie, we see a fight break out between Ingary (the land of Howl and Sophie is in) and the neighboring country, whereas there is no fierce battle in the original novel.
The whole movie revolves around the theme of anti-war, and its true villain is the pointless war and cause the loss. However, the original story directs the reader towards Sophie’s journey to find herself, how Sophie realizes her worth, which is partly through the movie. Coming to the movie, you will experience the brutal combat scene, the dark battleships .As for the book, Howl has to confront the Witch of the Waste and her powerful fire demon. The two missions of the movie and the novel have different message stories with different audiences, both great stories with their own merits.
The difference in the character’s personality between the novel and the movie
The second most highlighted difference between the novel and the movie is the characters. The characters in the book and in the movie are transformed from the original. Some minor characters have been removed or merged together with other characters. Characters with significant changes include:
(Howl)
Howl in the movie is a perfect version, a “Prince Charming” with many advantages in personality: courteous, gentle, and also the hero of fighting to protect Sophie. If you are familiar with this Howl image then Please be mentally prepared before reading the novel of the same name. Real name’s Howl  is Howell Jenkins, from Wales. It is mentioned in the book that the castle door leads to different places according to the color on the door, and the blackness opens into a dark night. However, the side when that black curtain was Wales in the 1980s, with modern equipment such as cars and computers . This is not mentioned in the movie.
In terms of personality, Howl in the novel is actually a “lady-killer” who flirts with so many beautiful ladies and any girl will not escape by him, until they fall in love with him, he leaves without leaving a trace. This was also the source of his trouble with the Witch of the Waste Throughout the novel, Howl spends most of his time dressing and grooming in order to win the hearts of beautiful girls, including her sister Sophie. The rest of the time, Howl sulked and acted like a child beside Sophie. Howl in the novel does not want to tie and always tries to avoid responsibility. But the more we read, the more we like Howl in the novel, because his personality is especially funny and witty. “I’m a coward. Only way I can do something this frightening is to tell myself I’m not doing it.”  Throughout the novel, we see only a Howl chasing the girls, his words in the last chapter confuse readers and other characters: Howl is still searching and saving people from being lost from the Witch. Meanwhile, he tells himself “I’m not doing it”.
Howl in the movie gets rid of Howl’s flaws of the novel. Because the movie’s message is hind-minded about peace protection and anti-war, a heroic character is needed to be able to send the message to the audience. The hero in the movie is Howl, he is idealized in the film, becomes a hero fighting for peace, denouncing the destructive power of war. When the court asked Howl to go to war, Howl refused ,not for his cowardness. He knew from which side the war was coming from, then the end was like that for everyone, just bring pain only. However, at night, Howl quietly turns into a monster out to fight alone, fighting against planes and monsters that both sides release to tear each other up. It is an ideal, incredibly romantic image of a hero fighting evil, fighting for peace, and fighting for the things he loves. In the end, Howl in both the novel and movie has to face Howl’s problems and settle it.
(Sophie)
Sophie in the novel has red hair, stubborn, straightforward, and always seems angry after being cursed. She sees cleaning as a way to forget about the problem she is facing. She often talks to hats, clothes, objects around and this brings miracles, even life to them. Meanwhile, Sophie in the movie has brown hair and is much softer. She also knows how to control her emotions better, and she cleans out of order. However, Sophie in the movie has no magical powers. This is most noticeable in the part where Sophie meets Turnip-Head. Turnip-Head in the story is an inanimate scarecrow, but gets up and follows Sophie after hearing her talk. In the movie, Turnip-Head had life when Sophie met him. While the-story Sophie was very scared of Turnip Head and wanted to chase him many times, the Sophie-movie was friendly, even grateful to the Turnip-Head.
Sophie in the story has sent a message: “When we are young, let us go out and explore ourselves, we will find our power hidden and know what our strength is. and where is our limit. ” That is a very precious meaning that Sophie’s journey to find herself brings back.
  (Author)
Author Diana Wynne Jones observed that Howl and Sophie on-screen seemed “softer and more noble than their characters in my book.” In the movie, we really liked how Howl became “lost” as he transformed into a giant crow in battles and gradually “couldn’t return.” Meanwhile, Sophie’s curse fades more and more as she becomes stronger to save Howl and to heal herself. These details are not included in the book. However, I also want to say that Howl and Sophie in the book seem more real and that the quarrel between the two is what makes me appreciate their feelings more; love each other and learn to accept each other’s imperfections.
(Witch)
She was once a charming, powerful woman. Howl in the novel once chased and abandoned her. Both the story and the movie show Howl once captured a shooting meteor and gave it his heart in exchange for power, which is Calcifer. However, the sorceress in the novel cursed Howl to complete a list of things to do and they slowly led Howl back to her hand. In the movie, the witch tries to cast a curse on Howl, but he easily removes it. In the end, she lost her magic and became a pitiful, harmless old woman.
()
There are also some minor differences in the side characters. Sophie in the novel has two younger sisters, Lettie and Martha. Lettie is the younger sister sent to learn magic, and Martha is the assistant at the bakery. These two sisters exchanged looks and names in the beginning. Lettie is a huge support character in the series, even part 2 is present. However, the film only mentions Lettie – the sister at the bakery, and she can only say a sentence or two to Sophie and finish. Howl has an apprentice. In the book, he names Michael Fisher , a teenager. And, in the movie he names Markl , a boy. In the story, Suliman is the Royal Mage, male and missing. On screen, Suliman is a female magician who taught Howl before, and she is a bit mean.
  Ending
“Howl’s Moving Castle” is a film with a stunning image and a beautiful European context, but it does not lose the Japanese culture, oriental styles of Ghibli. The good soundtrack both “The Promise With The World” and “Merry Go Round of Life” are great tunes but for us  “Merry Go Round of Life” is still more beautiful, the scene of Howl holding Sophie’s hand , two people walking in the air together forever is a very beautiful, very romantic scene that is hard to describe in words.
Howl’s Moving Castle is not just a love story, a magical adventure and heart-fluttering romance, but also a story of growth and a journey to find oneself. Whether it’s a novel or a movie, the film’s meaningful message is expressed in tolerance, forgiveness after struggles, hatred, and curse. In addition, the extraordinary life energy of the people who have suffered many injuries in the film overcoming all the difficulties to achieve a happy destination is also the message that the filmmakers send to the audience.

Rockstars Don’t Pout
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Debuting as a rapper wasn’t easy. There was a lot of work to be done not just by you but the team supporting you as well. That is why you took your career so seriously and put work ahead of everything.
For two years you did nothing but work. All your free time was dedicated to music and lyrics. Your hands littered with pen markings as you often twidled the pen in your hand causing the various colors of ink to decorate your skin. On occasion, there was a mark on your chin from when you tapped the pen in thought.
Your dedication brought you great success but also had great repercussions. At one moment you were doing too many shows a week, straining your voice. When you woke up one morning, unable to speak, your label stepped in to put you on hiatus until you fully recovered.
As a professional who depended on her voice, you knew you had messed up and vowed to listen to the advice of others.
During your hiatus, you still visited the studios using your phone to communicate through text with everyone you encountered. On one such visit, you happen upon your Million Market labelmate Suran. She was your senior but also a good friend who understood your need to work even when you weren’t allowed.
“Oh, Y/N!” Suran waved to you prompting you to do the same.
You would have quickly run over and sprung into conversation with her if it wasn’t for the two men who accompanied her.
Suran excused herself from the men to shuffle over to you. She was beaming from excitement as she told you all about her current project. “We’re going to go record Changmo’s part. Do you want to come along?”
You nodded immediately aching to be in a familiar environment once more even if it had nothing to do with you.
“Great!” Suran held your hand, pulling you towards the two men who had patiently waited. “Hope you don’t mind I bring along a friend.”
That’s how you met Changmo.
The adorable giant who stole your heart.
“It’s just hard to believe that I finally got to meet you and you can’t speak.” He found it hard to believe that someone with such a strong voice could suddenly lose it. “How long do you have to recover?”
Two weeks. This is the fourth day of the second week. But I will continue hiatus until the end of Spring.
Under your mask, you blushed at the thought of what you wanted to type. Your fingers quickly carried out what you knew you could never voice even if you weren’t sick.
If you want we can meet next week.
Changmo’s eyes nearly doubled in size as he read it over and over again in disbelief. “Are you asking me out?”
The sudden boldness was gone. You looked away, to the side now self-consciously giving a shy nod.
Your mask covered your blushing face but the moment you turned Changmo caught sight of your ears turning red. How cute, he thought to himself never realizing he too had started to redden.
“Okay.”
That was nearly over a year ago.
Now you two were officially in a relationship. A rapper from Million Market and a rapper/producer from Illionaire... your schedules could not be more different. When your label was bought by SM you found yourself being worked harder than ever before. (I got beef with SM)
Your schedule seemed much more like that of a kpop group idol than a solo hip hop rapper. There were constant trips, tours, fan meetings, advertisements,  sponsorships... many things you had never done.
“Sorry,” you clung to Changmo as you apologized for the hundredth time. Your plans to stay with him were interrupted when you received notice of your flight change.
Changmo groaned at the loss of your warmth as you pulled away to start changing. “I thought you were leaving tomorrow night.”
“I was but somehow that information got leaked and the company doesn’t want me to be swarmed by the fans so they changed it.” You quickly picked your hair up into a somewhat messy bun knowing the stylist would do something about your tangled tresses later. One last look in the mirror confirmed you looked suitable enough.
When you turned back around you caught your boyfriend pouting. “Awww~” you cooed rounding the bed to his side so you could kiss him.
Changmo wrapped his arms around your waist bringing you back down onto the bed and rolling over to trap you under him. His lips moving perfectly in tune with yours until there was a need for air.
“You can’t go.”
“I have to.” Once again he pouted prompting you to kiss him again. “Rockstars don’t pout.”
“Shut up,” he playfully shot back before silencing you with his lips. He did not want to let go of you when he had just gotten you back. “You’re going to get sick if you keep working like this.”
“You work a lot too...” You didn’t like to voice your complains in order to avoid sounding jealous or needy. Even if you knew they were just fans, it was hard sharing your boyfriend with all his fans. “Besides, you won’t miss me when you being recording for Show Me The Money.”
“I always miss you,” he fought back looking offended by your accusation. Even if he was busy Changmo always thought about you, what you were doing, if you had slept well- things like that.
\\\
You went from country to country trying to boost the sales of your new EP Album. It was going great until you began feeling lethargic. More time in the makeup chair was needed to hide all signs of fatigue before going out in public.
“Girl these eyebags,” your stylist commented as she dabbed another layer of concealer.
“I know, don’t even tell me about it.” Your eyes went to your lap where your phone buzzed. The screen lit up with a notification of an incoming text from Changmo. You quickly unlocked the screen and read its contents feeling alive once more. It was like Changmo had read your mind.
Changmo: I miss you
You: I miss you too ❤
True to his word, Changmo missed you during the filming of the show. Often he wished you would be waiting at home for him on those nights when he would arrive late. Even if you were asleep it was comforting to know you were within reach.
It didn’t help that one of the contestants used a beat from one of your new songs that day, bringing attention to his relationship. All he could do was smile proudly at the fact that he was able to see how your hard work paid off.
Later he learned there were plenty of people around him hoping to meet you.
Changmo: Why are you so popular with younger guys?
You: I am?!?!
Changmo: Even Superbee likes you.
You: He’s the same age as you.
Changmo: How do you know that?
You: Google
Changmo laughed imagining you quickly googling Superbee’s age to make a point. It was interesting how quick you were to google something. There were times when he would ask something trivial out loud and in a matter of seconds you would have an answer for him.
It continued this way for a couple of months. The two of you giving little anecdotes about your day. Sometimes there was nothing to say or no time to say it. The time zones really messed you up.
You: Are you awake?
Changmo: Yeah, it’s only 12:00 here.
You: Oh! It’s already bedtime here.
Changmo: Why aren’t you sleeping?
You: I can’t sleep.
Changmo: You miss me that much?
You: 🙄
Changmo: 💔
\\\
At the end of promotions, you went back home exhausted both mentally and physically. Your sleep cycle was completely out of order as you slept through the day and woke up at night.
It was 6:00 am, the room was encased in the natural soft lighting of a new morning as the sun began to rise steadily in the sky.“Good morning,” Changmo sarcastically bid you as you finally went to bed.
You groaned at the headache that was currently making it hard for you to enjoy the sight of your awakening prince. “I fell asleep in the closet.”
“What were you doing there?” He couldn’t help but laugh.
The two of you shared a giant walk-in closet where you fell asleep as you began unpacking from your trip. It was hard to say when you fell asleep but when you woke up, the back of your head on the hard wooden floor, your back awkwardly molding to the clothes you had spilled out of your suitcase, you knew it had to have been a while.
“I don’t know...” you whined snuggling up to him.
Changmo was startled by how cold you were. He braved through it to wrap his arms around you and soothe you back to sleep. He hoped you would be able to wake up in a few hours and stop your vampiric sleeping practices.
He stayed in bed as long as he could. It was obvious you were in a deep sleep by the way you lightly began to snore. His fingers grazed your face when he pushed back your hair.
Once it was 9:00 am he knew he had to get up. “Y/N...” he pressed his soft plush lips against your forehead, “wake up.”
“You wake up-” you muttered, eyes still shut.
“I am but I can’t get up if you keep clinging to me like this.”
Your hold on him only tightened even adding your legs to the mix, wrapping them around him as if you were a koala and he was your favorite tree.
“Just stay with me~”
He wanted to but he had a busy schedule so he left.
Pretty soon everyone started to speculate whether you two were still together adding a new talking point to your short conversations.
“Come with me.” Changmo held your hand requesting you to go out with him on an impromptu date.
“I can’t,” you sadly denied. “The company wants me to remain out of the public eye for a little while.” Their goal was to keep from any more unnecessary junk posts online about you.
They thought that if you suddenly appeared with Changmo on the streets it would be admitting that you two had problems and are only going out for publicity’s sake.
It didn’t sit well with Changmo.
“Who cares.” He didn’t like the changes that came with your label being, in a sense, changed.
Your jaw went slack questioning how he could just admit that. “This is my work- if I don’t follow the rules then...”
Changmo sighed, “I know but this is also about you and me- our personal life.” He let go of your hand but sat down beside you. “I know we’re together so I don’t care what they say online. I just want to be able to take you with me when I go places.”
“Me too but if I don’t follow the rules there could be consequences. What if they are right and a new story blows up about us. They are the ones that have to work hard to handle the backlash.” You just didn’t want to inconvenience anyone other than yourself.
“I’m going on tour soon.”
“I know,” you tried your best to smile.
He just wanted to be with you as long as he could before leaving. “Dating a rapper is hard.,” he concluded.
“I know, right?”
The two of you laughed knowing how the other felt. It wasn’t easy but
“But I love you too much,” Changmo confessed as if he had ever thought about breaking up with you. Even if it was inconvenient or frustrating to squeeze a relationship in between schedules- he would never give it up.
You wrapped your arms around him, clinging onto him tightly as punishment for making your heart race.
“I love you too.”
-end-
A/N: I think this is more fluff but oh well. I just couldn’t bear to make a near-breakup scene for this cutie ^^

hi i saw ur post about sm and the graduation system and i’m kinda new to kpop and kpop companies, i was wondering if u could explain what the graduation system is?
Hi! Uhm Okay, please bare with me 'coz I don't know where to start or how to explain this properly but I'll try lol
Let's start with history, shall we?
So a graduation system is basically a group concept made by SM Entertainment a music label/entertainment company where SJ, SNSD, SHINEE, F(X), NCT, EXO, TVXQ, RED VELVET, BOA & others are housed. So as per my knowledge, the 'Graduation System' was first applied or given to Super Junior when they debuted in 2005 making their debut album titled as 'Super Junior '05'. Meaning, the 12-member original lineup back then will be reorganized (idk if that's the proper term) based on their performance making the members work hard or do their best if they want to be part of the next lineup for Super Junior '06. It's like competing with your own members. So basically, every year or every comeback, there's a different or a new set of members. On the following year (2006), they added another member which was Kyuhyun making SJ a 13-member group, the largest pop group in history so far at that time. There were backlash when Kyuhyun was added. Fans (ELF) were worried and threatened about the instability of the group and the uncertainty of the concept that they have. Fans were worried about the members' future after going through intense training for yearsss so basically they didn't like it. And then in 2007, SM introduced another new member featuring which was Henry in SJ's 'Don't Don' comeback. Backlash continued. SM didn't expect that SJ's first and original lineup would appeal to the public like that, afterall, SJ was known to be 'TVXQ's leftovers'... damn writing this hurts... After all the backlash that SM received, they never tried adding anymore members into SJ and cancelled the 'graduation system'. They made Henry and ZhouMi (both are Chinese) members of Super Junior - M (SJ's sub-unit based and marketed in China) instead. Yes, just a member of the sub-unit, not the main group. If you still don't know since you're new to KPop, SJ was the first group to ever venture into sub-units. Considering they have large number of members, SM saw this opportunity to utilize their artists. It's like value adding. The first sub-unit in KPop was Super Junior - K.R.Y, a ballad sub-unit composed of SJ's main vocalists: Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, & Yesung. So yeah, the graduation/rotational system failed with SJ. They remained as a 13-member group since then (15-members actually including sub-unit members Henry & ZhouMi) Basically, SJ was a lab rat for SM, an experimental group. They gave the graduation system to them and tested the sub-unit thing as trial and error.
Fast forward to 2012, SM debuted EXO with 12 members as a whole divided into 2 sub-units which were EXO - M (Mandarin; based in China) and EXO - K (Korea) with 6 members each. There were no graduation system in EXO although they are an improved version of the sub-unit concept given, tried and tested first by SJ. SM would like to think that they left the errors they encountered with SJ's sub-unit system and then apply the 'improved' version of it to EXO. Did it also fail? You tell me. I'm seriously hoping that history won't repeat itself on WayV. Once you get deeper into Kpop especially into SM groups, you'll see eventually the connection, trend, similarites and differences between SJ, EXO & NCT (SM's largest groups) and also their Chinese sub-units, Super Junior - M, EXO - M, and WayV respectively and realize how SM worked around this concept of graduation/rotational system and infinite members and infinite possibilities that they gave NCT.
Fast forward to 2016, NCT debuted with its first sub-unit NCT U which has this rotational concept. Apparently, in NCT's case, rotational system and graduation was made separate and different. Any member in NCT regardless of what fixed unit they belong to could debut and release a song & MV as a member of NCT U depending on whoever fits the song. It could be a duo, a solo, a trio, or indefinite number of members.
SM would like to think that they left the errors they encountered with SJ's graduation system and then apply the 'improved' version of it to NCT Dream. NCT Dream debuted in 2016 with the original lineup of 7 members composed of Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, & Jisung. They were literally just 14 - 18 years old (Korean age) back then, teenagers. And the graduation system that SM gave them was that when they reach the age of adulthood which is 20y.o in Korea, they have to 'graduate' or leave the group and re-debut separately into another fixed unit which is based in another country's city ('coz SM was planning to conquer the world through music somehow lol). So after reaching the age of 20, these kids who literally grew up together as childhood friends are bound to be separated. Mark turned 20y.o in 2018 and graduated by the end of the same year. The members threw him a Kamsa (Thank You) Party which is like a send-off party around Christmas time of 2018. He was no longer part of NCT Dream's activity or comebacks after that nor seen together with the other NCT Dream's members unless it's a full group (NCT as whole) activity. So in 2019, 00liners Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, & Jaemin turned 20y.o and were expected to graduate from the sub-unit at the end of the year just like Mark. But SM announced concert tour schedules for NCT Dream on November of 2019. Til 2020 came and Chenle also turned 20y.o and SM never mentioned anything about the graduation. Not until today April 14, 2020 where they finally broke their silence and announced that NCT Dream's graduation system is abolished and will adopt NCT U's rotational system instead making NCT Dream a fixed unit. I know this might cause confusion later on especially for new NCTzens so I'm gonna clear it up here now. NCT U's rotational system includes everyone in NCT and give them opportunity to collaborate and release a song regardless of the sub-unit they belong to. While NCT Dream's rotational system is only exclusive to NCT Dream's 7 members: Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, & Jisung.
SM isn't really good at taking back whatever they've started, they'll see to it that at some point, they'll still be able to push through their original plan. That's why I said on my previous post that they've 'compromised'. They didn't give in to our demands, they've 'compromised' thinking that this is the 'best' they could give us given the situation.
Other people say it's no big deal, they're still in the same group just not in the same sub-unit. Or they're just separated in sub-units, it doesn't mean they're no longer friends which is all true. But if it's just something that light of a thing to deal with, it wouldn't affect the members so much. SJ have mentioned in some ocassions before that the graduation/rotational system they had during debut was extremely hard on them because even if they didn't want to, the concept made them look at their members, their friends as rivals. It made them compete with each other. The managers kinda pressured them into thinking that way, the company made them feel that way. They were still budding into adulthood back then, around 18- 22y.o. They were struggling because their concept gave them so much uncertainty. Imagine joining the company at a young age aspiring to debut as an artist so you could put food on the table for your family (because most of SJ members came from poor families) so you went through years of intense training and then to debut in a group where your future isn't assured. While for NCT Dream, since they are childhood friends, some of them have said on ocassions before (specifically Jaemin & Jisung) that aside from their members, they don't have friends. Because they've dedicated their childhood in intense training. They didn't have the time to mingle with other kids in school because right after classes, they'd go straight to training so the only friends they know and have are their members. Think that all those years they were building that relationship together, while SM were planning to separate them from each other when they turn 20. SM even made Jeno, Haechan & Jaemin drop out of high school just a few months before their high school graduation to focus on NCT Dream's graduation. Think about how they were robbed of that opportunity. I specially/personally feel bad about knowing how Jeno enjoys school and excels in academics. Think about how hard they cried during their first ever concert The Dream Show thinking that it might be their first and last concert together because even themselves don't know what SM plans to do with them after graduation. That's what the 'graduation system' does to young group of people. Although the concept is not all bad, but it's not nice to play with other people's emotions like that. That's why no one wants it.
So yeah, that concludes my explanation. Sorry if it's kinda information overload. I think, while writing, it became more of a vent/rant more than explaining. 😅
If there's any of ya'll who comes across this post may correct me (politely, of course) if any of the info I've wrote were wrong. Thank you. I hope this helps to you dear and to any Kpop newbies out there 😊

Monsta X Reaction to Accidentally Confessing Their Feelings for You on Vlive
Thank you to the Anon that requested this one! I was super soft the ENTIRE time writing it. <3
I’m sorry for how long winded some are. I got really soft with this one
Shownu
Tumblr media
You and Shownu had known each other for a while. He was a wonderful person. If anyone looked up caring in the dictionary, the only description would be Hyunwoo. You had grown very fond of his nurturing, respectful, laid back attitude that he always had around you and you noticed yourself blushing around him more and more. Every time he looked at you, your heart would skip beats.
The two of you had hung out with some friends a few times but always managed to sit next to each other which spiraled a huge series of rumors amongst Monbebe and all other Kpop fans. Its usually not a very good idea but you wouldn’t help but search “Shownu” on sites like Twitter and Tumblr. “Who is this woman hanging out with Nunu?” one Monbebe had asked. You weren’t dating but for some reason your new friendship was already making headlines and you couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if you were to date. That would be answered fairly quick.
Hyunwoo was doing a post-concert Vlive with his member Hyungwon, when the question came into the chat asking if he was dating you. “Y/n? No, we are just friends, but they really are amazing. Whoever gets do date them will be the luckiest person ever.” Your heart was torn. Half because it hurt to hear him say no you weren’t together and half because he had spoken so highly of you. You were brought back to the stream from your mental malfunction by Hyungwon’s playful voice. “YA! Don’t talk like that, Monbebe will be jealous and think you lovestruck!” he laughed. You nodded your head but immediately froze solid when you heard Hyunwoo’s reply.
“I am”
You weren’t the only one that froze. Hyungwon looked at him like he had swore on Vlive. It wasn’t until Hyunwoo looked at him that he realized that he DID NOT say that in his head like he though.
“Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I said that out loud didn’t I?” He wasn’t even going to try to play it off. “Okay, so yeah I have a big crush on Y/N. We’ve been hanging out a lot lately and they’re pretty awesome. I think you’d like them a lot, Monbebe!” His face was beet red and you knew yours was too. Who’s wouldn’t be? After the slip up he pretended to not see the massive amount of spam coming in from Monbebe about you, because it was all a little overwhelming.
An hour later the Vlive ended. You wait a few minutes for him to get settled and gave him a call.
“Hello?”
“Hey how’d the Vlive go?”
“Oh, it was great we had a lot of Monbebe showing us so much love!”
“Uh hu, I heard.”
“……Wait. What did you here?”
“Oh nothing, but just so you know, you’re adorable when your flushered.”
“………………………………………You watched it didn’t you”
“Of course I did. I always watch your streams. I have to show my support”
“Thank you! So uh.. Would you like to go on a date with me?” He asked in such a small shy voice that your heart nearly gave out.”
“Of course I would.”
Wonho
Tumblr media
Hoseok was a picture-perfect, boyfriend material man and you just so happened to be seeing him. He was always so thoughtful and respectful when it came to you and loved to spoil you.You two had been talking for a while but never said the statement that you wanted to hear. It was too soon and you knew that but you really did love him even if it was such a short time to see someone. Starship knew and while they didn’t care for it, they respected his wishes. The main reason he hadn’t asked you to be his G/b/f was because he had stated at the beginning of his career that he didn’t really see himself getting married and he didn’t want his fans to reject you because of that.
The two of you had just finished a wonderful late-night date where he took you to your favorite restaurant. He walked you to your door and kissed you goodnight then headed home to get some rest. While you were washing off your face you got a notification from Vlive saying Minhyuk had gone live on the Monsta X account. You opened it up to see him chilling in the living room, casually talking to the thousands of Monbebe’s watching the stream. You could hear someone moving in the background and heard Min laugh and ask if the person wanted to join, which followed with a “sure.” The deeper sleepy voice on the other side of the camera was Hoseok. He asked if they could do the live in his room because he wanted to lay down on his bed and Minhyuk covered the camera and followed him there.
Hoseok was too sleepy to notice that he didn’t move the picture on his nightstand. It was a picture of you and him during the date where he had taken you to the beach at night. The two of you had laughed until you cried and it was when you realized you loved him. It was a sweet memory, but one that Monbebe didn’t know about. You didn’t even know he had printed that picture off! The boys started talking and goofing off but it didn’t take long for questions to start popping up in the chat that mad Hoseok go red.
“’Wonho who is the girl in the picture with you?’ What picture are you………Oh that picture?!” He pointed at it. You could tell he was panicking just a little bit but he held it together like a champ. “Monbebe, I have a confession to make. I have an amazing person by my side that I have been seeing for a short while now. They truly make me happy and that’s why this picture is here. Every night I go to bed I look at it and think of how lucky of a man I am. I have them and I have you. Please don’t think that I love Monbebe any less! Truthfully I was worried about how you would feel, so I’ve tried to hide my feelings, even though I know I haven’t done a good job with that. And please treat them with respect too!” Those last to statements his face showed a lot of worry, which was a shared feeling for you too.
More comments came through and Hoseok perked up. Almost all of the comments were well wishes and screams for him to ask you out, mixed with the occasional “AHHHHHHH OUR BUFF BUNNY FOUND LOVEEEEEEEE, <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3.” The two of you were breathing just a little easier.
After his Vlive with Minhyuk ended he called you like he does every night and was talking like an excited toddler.
“DID YOU WATCH THE VLIVE?! DID YOU SEE HOW HAPPY MONBEBE WERE?! I Don’t know why I was so worried. I really do have the most wonderful fans. I wonder if they want pictures of us? I could share the one of us at the movies the other day! You looked gorgeous!”
“Hoho you aren’t going to be able to sleep tonight, are you?” you laughed.
“Probably not, I’m just so happy! I’m so thankful my little goof didn’t backfire on us. I’m on my way to your house!”
“Hoseok its 3 in the morning!”
“Yeah, but how lame would it be to asked you to be mine over the phone!”
The next morning you woke up to Starship making an official announcement and about 20,000 more followers on Instagram. There was also a text from Hoseok who was already at practice.
“Good morning beautiful. Have an amazing day today and I can’t wait to see you tonight! Text when you can! I love you :)“
Minhyuk
Tumblr media
You knew Minhyuk from your childhood. He was one of your best friends that you had known since you were little and had lived right down the road from one another. Even though the two of you didn’t get to hang out much since he became an idol, you were always texting and talking on the phone, with the occasional hang out session happening between comebacks.
You also had a secret he didn’t know about. You were absolutely infatuated with him. The time that you had known each other had turned into a love story for you, where you wished you could tell him how you felt but you also didn’t want your friendship to change after you confessed. So, you kept this secret to yourself.
Minhyuk was in the United States on their “We Are Here” world tour and decided to do a live stream with his teammate, Changkyun. You had just woken up and were getting ready to head to work when you got the notification, so you decided to listen to the stream in the car like it was a podcast. You couldn’t help but laugh at their antics a wish that it was you with Min instead of I.M.
You were just getting onto the highway when a Monbebe asked the boys if they thought they would ever date while they were Idols. Changkyun said he didn’t know and really didn’t think about it too much because he didn’t have anyone that caught his eye just yet, besides Monbebe. You thought you were going to run off the road when Minhyuk gave his response.
“I’d date my best friend, y/n.”
You weren’t totally convinced it was a confession and not a sweet sentiment that was meant to find you a b/g/f, since that was definitely something Min would do. However, Changkyun made it very clear what Minhyuk was trying to say.
“Yeah you’ve had a crush on them for a while.” He commented. “YA! Don’t call me out like that” Minhyuk laughed. “Monbebe don’t need to know that, and I’m now hoping that y/n isn’t watching. I didn’t mean to say that! We’ve known each other since we were about 8 years old.” Oh boy, were you watching. You had just pulled up to work and just sat in your car, mouth wide open. One Monbebe asked why Minhyuk hadn’t asked you out and he stated the exact same feeling of he didn’t want to lose you as a friend because he didn’t think you felt the same.
You open up your text messages and send a quick “I do feel like that, though” and then reopened Vlive to see if he would get the message on Vlive. His phone vibrated and he pulled it out and read what you had sent. Slowly a huge sunshiney grin spread across his face and he showed the message to Changkyun, who let out a massive “I TOLD YOU SO,” making Minhyuk laugh.
You were completely late to work and it didn’t even matter to you, but loosing your job may not be a good idea. You tuned off the Vlive and sent him a quick “I’ll text you on my break” message, which got an even quicker, “Don’t text, call me when you can.”
Work was going so slow for you but when that first 15-minute break came around, you ran outside and his Minhyuk’s contact. It conversation was a little awkward at first but after a few minutes the two of you were talking and joking. He told you that when he got home, he was taking you out immediately and you told him that you couldn’t wait. Once your break was over you told him to get some sleep and to call you when he wakes up.
He held true to his word when he got home a month later, and your new relationship with his was everything you could had ever imagined.
Kihyun
Tumblr media
A lot of famous Korean Idols and Actors had recently started dating and Dispatch was on High Alert. You knew that you and your new love interest Kihyun had to be careful since you hadn’t been together that long and hadn’t really had the talk about how serious of a relationship yours was. You had been on a couple of dates but hadn’t talked about how you felt about each other or if you wanted to take the next step and add labels to each other. You knew that you were head over heels for him but weren’t totally sure where he stood. He was a total sweetheart and was affectionate but past experiences had you guessing if he felt the same way for you that you felt for him.
He was doing a Vlive after practice and you were trying to clean your house and decided to tune in to show some support. You set your phone up to the side and began cleaning the counters in your kitchen. He started talking about some exciting stuff for the group and you knew that it was a matter of time before he spilled some details that shouldn’t be spilled. You sent him a text reminding him to watch what he says so not to get in trouble and then when back to cleaning.
“Yes, my love.”
You froze. He froze. Your cat froze. The lady next door froze. Everything froze.
He sat there for a second with his eyes wide and hands over his mouth. Monbebe were all over it asking who his love was. Not only did he accidentally reveled that he had a love interest, but he reveled that he did have feelings for you.
You stood in the living room counter cleaner in your hand with the goofiest grin on your face. He immediately tried to cover up what he had said but it was no use. Monbebe were smarter than that.
“Okay Monbebe. Yes, I have been seeing someone. They’re amazing and I’m truly lucky to have them. They’re watching too and reminded me to not leak anything that could get me in trouble.” He laughed. “I really care for them a lot and I hope that we can continue to see each other and be something more.”
Monbebe in chat got super soft. Chat was filled with “aww” and “I’m so Happy for you Kihyun.” Many asked when he was going to introduce you to them like they were family, which you loved because you knew that Monbebe meant so much to him. He explained that you weren’t an official relationship but not to worry because he had plans for that, and that was the only information he was going to leak, with a light hearted laugh.
You waited until he finished his stream and sent him a text telling him that he was just a tiny adorable little thing. He respond that 1. He was taller than you, 2. He is a member of Monsta X so he cant be THAT cute, and 3. He was on his way over to hang out. When he got there you both talked about where you were standing and if there should be a commitment. Needless to say the name his name in your phone was <3 Boyfriend <3 by the end of the night. Before he left he took a cute picture of the two of you and posted to fancafe for Monbebe to see.
“Monbebe meet y/n, my amazing g/b/f. At least I leaked it before Dispatch did haha!”
Hyungwon
Tumblr media
You were hanging out with your friend Hyungwon. You were just finishing up a dance session the two of you were having since he was planning a video for Monbebe to show off some of his dance moves. You two had known each other for a while, having attended the same dance school in Gwangju. You were sad when he he moved to Seoul to follow his dream, but you came to visit as much as possible. Eventually you moved their as well and when he was wanting to come up with little dance routines for Monbebe you were always there helping and showing support. You were about to head home when he decided he was going to do a short Vlive and talk to some fans.
He was sitting on the floor of the studio in Starship’s building, talking to some fans when you were heading out the door. He looked so happy to be talking and joking around with them, that it warmed your heart. You always had a soft spot for him. You were two peas in a pod. You could talk about anything, and the best time when the two of you were just hanging out, watching movies lazily on the couch. It usually ended up in nap time but hey you were both very busy and naps were fun, right? Truth be told, you had grown a little more than fond of Hyungwon. You really liked him. You were jealous of the makeup artists and staff that always got to be with him, and occasionally flirted with him. You wished you could tell him how you felt but this friendship meant too much to you to try to ruin like that. You would much rather have him as a friend than not at all, or have the friendship just be awkward from rejection.
You had gathered your stuff quietly and was getting ready to leave when started waving and saying bye. You took this as you didn’t need to be quiet and told him bye and grabbed the door handle. Just before you walked out you heard Hyungwon very clearly say “I love you.” You stopped, smiled and looked over your shoulder thinking he was meaning it in a friendly way. You guys had said “love ya” before. His face was shocked, like he had slipped up. You were confused why he had that look on his face, but noticed the blush flashing across his cheeks. Was it possible he liked you too? You stepped back in the room and shut the door when he finally came too and started reading chat. “’ Who is the person you just told I love you too?’ Uh, well that’s my really good friend. They’re my partner in crime…..’That look says more than friend, are you holding out on us?’ I might be holding out on myself, Monbebe.” he laughed. You stood there with a grin on your face, listening to him try to explain himself to his fans for his slip up but he eventually gave up. “Okay fine, yes I have a thing for my friend, and yes they are standing about 20 feet away from me staring at me, as I wish I could go crawl under a rock in embarrassment.” He laughed again. “I think I’m going to call it for the night before I leak something insanely important. Goodnight, Monbebe, I love you all so much.” He waved and ended it, sighing and setting the camera down.
He looked looked at you with a smile and a lighthearted “oops.” You just smiled back and shook your head. “Ya know, I wouldn’t have batted an eye if you wouldn’t have freaked out.” You responded. “Well I just confessed my feelings to my best friend, unintentionally, in front of THOUSANDS.” You could tell that last part made him a little nervous, but it had happened and Hyungwon always handled everything with grace.
“Well, if it means anything to you, I love you too Hyungwon.” Your face was hot and you knew it had to be redder than his.
He stood up and made his way too you, adorable smile on his face. “Well, its still somewhat early. Would you like to go on a date with me?”
“I’d love to.” You both smiled and he shortened the distance between the two of you giving you a big hug and planted a soft kiss on the top of your head.
Hand in hand you both left the build. “Guess we don’t have to worry about the media leaking us. I did it for them.” He laughed. In that moment you knew this is exactly what happiness was.
Jooheon
Tumblr media
*I just really love this gif yall.*
Last night was awesome. You had gone on a date with a friend that you had known for a while, or at least you assumed it was a date, considering the blushing on both ends. You two had gone to the movies to see a scary movie and then to dinner. Jooheon was a total baby the entire movie, but it was his idea. You thought it probably picked the movie because he wanted to seem all tough, but everyone who knew Jooheon knew that he was the opposite.
The next morning you had gotten woke up by your phone notification going off twice. One from the Monsta X twitter and the other from the Monsta X Vlive account, both announcing one or more of the boys had gone online for a stream. When Jooheon made it to the end of No Mercy and joined Monsta X, you immediately followed their social media pages to show support for your friend and keep up with him.
You rolled over and opened the app and where greeted by a sleepy Changkyun in a red hoodie talking with the fans. He was talking and being a flirtatious maknae making the Monbebe go crazy. You laid your phone on the bed and closed your eyes but kept the stream open. Right as you were about to fall back asleep you were jolted awake by Jooheon’s voice as he walked into the room.
“Changkyun-ah! You should have been there last night. I had such a good time, I think y/n might be the one.” I.M’s eyes got huge and he shook his head “no” as he looked over at his Hyung. You were wide awake now, palm pressed to your cheek, staring at your phone.
“What’s wrong?”
“Uh… I’m on vlive.”
There was a thick silence for a little bit, that was only broken by Changkyun chuckling and a door to one of the rooms shutting. You assumed Jooheon had mouthed a few explicit words and ran away. The image of what happened on the other side of the phone made you giggle.
Changkyun tried to cover for his best friend and buffer some of the questions that Monbebe had pouring in, without giving away too much because he felt it wasn’t his place to do. “Now what am I suppose to do Monbebe. Now theres a third wheel to Jookyun... I guess we just need to date huh?” he flirted.
A few seconds later, you received a text message from Jooheon.
“Good morning, are you awake.”
“Just got up a little bit ago, what’s up”
“Nothing just got home, wanted to see what’s up and if you wanted to hang out again tonight?”
“Of course! Let me just end Changkyuns Vlive.” The messages stopped for a few minutes and you worried that you had given him a panic attack making a joke that you knew how he felt.
“You were watching, huh?”
“I was and don’t worry I feel the same way <3”
“You do??”
“Well, duh I wouldn’t have said yes to going out again tonight if I didn’t lol!”
“Pick you up at 8?”
“Can’t wait <3”
I.M
Tumblr media
You met Changkyun while doing an internship with Starship during their comeback for the “Beautiful” era. You both had so much fun playing Overwatch together and listening to music that it became a regular event during his free time that he had when he wasn’t working on new songs. You weren’t even going to lie and say that you didn’t have feelings for him, you did and you knew it. The problem was you were trying to get your internship that you had done to be a real job with Starship, and you didn’t want to make your friendship awkward if you were to succeed and get the job.
He was hanging out in a hotel room with his fellow Monsta X member, Wonho, and talking on a Vlive stream with Monbebe. You had flown to see the show and were hanging out in the background while they finished it up. You need to grab something from your hotel room, so you motioned that you were leaving and walked out. What you didn’t see or here was Changkyun staring you out the room lovingly. When the door closed, he said “gah, y/n’s so perfect” under his breath. He thought nobody had heard but Hoseok did and so did the camera that was just close enough to pick up everything.
He realized that everyone had heard when the questions started appearing in the chat. “Who is y/n?” “Are you two dating?” “Did our wolf find the one?” While Changkyun was nervous to answer any of the questions he felt honestly was the best option. “y/n is one of my friends. They’re an intern with Starship and pretty much me in a much more attractive form. I’m honestly nervous to tell them how I feel” he laughed. Wonho had completely broken. He was sitting there in awe and the maknae’s courage to speak on his slip up. When you re-emerged in the room all mention of what had happened stopped. You could feel something had happened and looked at the two boys with a confused face, but nobody said a word towards what was wrong for the rest of the night. You had thought maybe you should go back and see what was said but Starship was taking forever to put the video back up in a vod.”
It didn’t take long though. The next morning, you woke up to dozens of direct messages on Twitter from people you didn’t know but knew from the titles on their pages that they were Monbebe. They had worked through the night to find you and send you a video clip from the stream. You watched him say that you were perfect at least a hundred times with butterflies in your chest. You were nervous about whether you should let Kyun know that you knew, but eventually you gained the mindset to go for it. You walked to breakfast where you found him at a table with Wonho and another member named Jooheon. They were casually joking and eating their food. The second Wonho noticed you, you saw him punch Jooheon and nod to you, symbolizing to you that he had spilled the beans to Jooheon.
Kyun turned and smiled with a blush coming across his face. He pulled the chair out for you and asked how you were that morning. After sharing a few pleasantries, he didn’t even try to hind the Vlive anymore. “So Monbebe spilled into your messages, didn’t they?” You were taken back by the fact that he wasn’t going to hide it but smiled and nodded. Wonho and Jooheon scooted closer to each other and waited for the next response.
“Everything I said was the truth. I’m so lucky to have you in my life, you really are amazing. I’ve never met someone so much like me and I’ve fallen for you so hard. I understand if you don’t feel the same, but I needed to get it off my chest, and don’t worry. I’ve already talked to my boss. They’re already planning on giving you the job, and even if we were to get together that wouldn’t change. You’re an incredible worker and they don’t want to lose you, but neither do I. So, if you don’t feel the same I’ll understand but can’t we please still be friends.”
Wonho and Jooheon were practically leaning over the table waiting on your answer.
“Kyun, I’ve been so into you for such a long time.” You smiled sweetly and got up from your chair giving the maknae a huge hug, burying your face into his chest. You could physically feel his sigh of relief.
“You have no idea how happy I am right now” he said as Wonho and Jooheon sprung up, hand in hand dancing and scream their excitement that you two had started your new blooming relationship.

Autobiographic references in BTS discography
This post is part of the TSU. It belongs to the first part: Biography.
Suga explained in an interview that all their songs were personal and inspired by their own lives. However, there are some that appear as more biographical than others. Even though they decided to share these stories with us, it remains the boys’ life and as such, there won’t be in-depth analyses.
The origins: using 사투리 (Satoori) and talking about Korea
Korea used to be made of 8 provinces that all have their own culture and variation of language (called satoori). As the boys come from different places, they use different dialects that are sometimes different from standard Korean. For details, I let you refer to the analyses linked below.
Tumblr media
(original map src)
The point here is that while most of their songs are in standard Korean, there have been times where they used satoori. The biggest case is obviously “팔도강산” (Paldogangsan, meaning “the scenery of all parts of Korea” and titled “Satoori Rap” in English; lyrics here) but you can also find some in “어디에서 왔는지” (Where did you come from? Lyrics here) and “Ma City” (lyrics).
“Satoori Rap” and “Ma City” are also the occasion to teach us more about the land of Korea and some of its different regions.
You can refer to those explicative posts to appreciate all the references:
Doolsetbangtan’s translation and notes about “Satoori Rap” and “Ma City”
Muish’s ramblings about “Satoori Rap” and “Ma City”
DKDKTV’s explanation about “Satoori Rap”
Last detail about “Satoori rap”: it was originally a song released in 2011 by the rap line only (src)
More recently, BTS also showed Korean traditional culture to their fans through the song “IDOL” (lyrics). The lyrics, dance, outfits, and background all include elements from the Korean culture (see the post about “IDOL” for a list).
This is important on two levels.
First, South Korea has a heavy history of intern conflicts between the regions. One sadly famous fight is between the Jeolla province (J-Hope’s birthplace) and  Gyeongsang (Suga, Jimin, V and Jungkook’s birthplace). Muish has a note about it and ARMY SALON made a complete post about the Gawngju uprising from May 18, 1980. It’s thus a meaningful move to integrate the different regions of Korea in one song, as a message of peace and a reminder that they’re all from the same country, as explained by RM in “Satoori Rap”:
“Why Keep Fighting Either way, they’re all in Korean Look up, and we look up at the same sky”
Note that however, the boys clearly stated that they made “Satoori Rap” “for fun” and to “diss each other” (src).
Second, K-pop is usually seen as a Korean copy of Western pop music. Integrating purely Korean elements thus counter this cliché. It seems there was a real intention of making Kpop evolve - or more exactly make it go back to what it was at the time of Seo Taiji and the Boys (see Vox article and this extract from COOLKKADANG EP. 312 (20190522)) - when the boys debuted. Not a purely commercial product but an art with a message. It would thus be important to call BTS a Kpop band because that way they can make the notion of Kpop evolve. The problem is that they redefined the genre so much it can’t really be conceived as K-pop anymore. The boys have also decided to rather focus on just doing their thing rather than being a superhero.
The introduction: 2, 3 방! 탄! 안녕하세요 방탄소년단입니다
BTS introduced themselves through several of their songs. The rap line explained to us how they got into hip-hop in “Skit: Circle Room Talk”, “길” (Road/Path), and later in Dark & Wild’s “힙합성애자” (Hip Hop Lover). You can find more about BTS and their relationship with Hip-Hop in the Socio-political narrative part here.
2 Cool 4 Skool plays its role as the first contact between BTS and the public. “Intro: 2 Cool 4 Skool” explains the goal of the group:
“2 cool 4 skool We tell our story on behalf of those in their 10s and 20s you take that”
The lyrics from “We Are Bulletproof pt.2” present the group and emphasize how they worked harder than anyone before debuting:
“At the practice room instead of school I danced and sang all night While you all played I lived my dream”
“Everywhere I go everything I do I’ll show myself as much as I’ve sharpened the knife All those people who’ve ignored me now Oh oh oh oh oh oh hey shout it out Oh if you’ve done as much as me throw a rock We go hard we’ve got no fear”
And in the first hidden track, “Skit: on the starting line”,  RM talks about the feelings he had while he was a trainee.
An idol’s everyday life
BTS has kept us updated on their whereabouts through other songs. While “Skit: Circle Room Talk” and “Outro: Circle Room Cypher” were staged to sound like they were at school, even ending interrupted by the teacher for the skit, “Skit: R U happy now?” is closer to the boys’ idol life as it happens in a car before a fansign. It’s hard to know how much in their skits is scripted or not (RM talked about how they recorded skits in his Vlive about Her here, at 37:10, and said they had no script but they did talk about it beforehand and the recording was later edited) but all the following ones until 화양연화 Pt.2 will be about the boys’ lives as idol: in “Soulmate” they fool around in the studio, in “Expectation!” they want the first place in music shows and in “One night in a strange city”, they bicker after a concert. The last Skits to date are “Billboard Music Awards Speech” and  “Skit: 망설임과 두려움” (Hesitation and Fear). The first one is about BTS’ being acknowledged in the US - and basically worldwide - and thus reaching yet another stage in their career while the second is about the doubts they have after reaching such a place.
There are two more songs about their everyday life: “Rain” that express their emotions on a rainy day and “이사” (Moving On), a song about their first dorm and all the memories it holds. It’s the place we see in Rookie King and during the first birthday party, that they left a bit before 화양연화 Pt.1 and “Moving On” were released. They then settled in the one we see in the first Bon Voyage and in the 2015 Festa.
I’ll also quickly mention “Spring Day” here because the lyrics were inspired by the friendship between RM and Suga, the two members that have been together for the longest time - since 2010.
Interestingly all these songs (except “Spring Day”) are focused on a moment: the skits are little sketches while “Rain” and “Moving On” are about a specific emotion they had at a certain time.
Bangtan’s rise
Opposite to those works about one specific episode, there’s a whole other series of songs, this time dedicated to BTS’ constant hard work since pre-debut. Songs by BTS for BTS, songs that help them stay aware of what they’ve accomplished and what their next goals are. It started with the confidence of getting more and more popular in “진격의 방탄 (Rise of Bangtan)” after the success of 2 Cool 4 Skool:
“Who are we? The rising Bulletproof Boy Scouts Who are we? We swallow them all up without fear Cuz we got fire, fire fire Get higher, higher higher If you don’t know us, then take a good look Who are we? Who? The rise of Bangtan”
Then before they’ve realized it, they’re celebrating their second year of activity in Dark & Wild’s “2학년” (2nd Grade):
“In the blink of an eye, I become a second grader The me who only used to chase my dreams now sets fire on the stage”
“Rise of Bangtan” gains a younger sibling in 화양연화 Pt.1 with “흥탄소년단 / Fun Boyz”. Each member has his own part to tell his story and brag about how they’re fun to hang out with, succeeding at remaining friendly while doing so and not sounding full of themselves.
The Most Beautiful Moment in Life has also more serious songs about their hard work, namely “Dope” and “Baepsae”. However, as these songs can also apply to the whole generation BTS belongs to, they’ll be considered in details in the Socio-political narrative part. Same with “Not Today”.
“Never Mind” is in the same vein of  “I can and will do it” but with a darker vision:
“NEVER MIND NEVER MIND No matter how thorny the road is, run NEVER MIND NEVER MIND There are lots of things in the world that you can’t help You better NEVER MIND NEVER MIND If you feel like you’re going to crash then accelerate more, you idiot NEVER MIND NEVER MIND We’re too young and immature to give up, you idiot NEVER MIND If you feel like you’re going to crash then accelerate more, you idiot If you feel like you’re going to crash then accelerate more, you idiot NEVER MIND”
“Whalien 52″ brings a sadder note to their journey as they reveal this path is not only hard but also full of loneliness.
They’re also aware the dream will eventually end. “Epilogue: Young Forever” is very realistic about it:
“It can’t be mine forever The applause I say to myself shamelessly Project your voice higher, farther Even though there isn’t an eternal audience I’m going to sing I want to be myself today forever I want to be a young forever”
Yet, it’s not enough to make them give up so they keep singing, they keep believing and thus followed “Outro: Wings”:
I trust myself, Since the reason why my back hurts Is so that wings can sprout I believe me, you, though the beginning may be humble, The future will be prosperous
It’s not stated explicitly but the boys explained in later songs that those wings were given by ARMY. Thus the fans saved the artists that had saved them first.
WINGS also contains a series of solo songs that have been the occasion for most of the boys to look and see where they are now: Jungkook thanks his hyungs for raising him in “Begin”, Jimin misses his innocence in “Lie”, Suga remembers how his love for music started with a brown piano in “First Love”, RM philosophizes about the world in “Reflection” and even hints the thematic of self-love, J-Hope thanks his mother for always supporting him until he succeeded in “Mama” and Jin admits he may never be the best but he’ll still try his hardest in “Awake”. It doesn’t seem “Stigma” has biographical elements, it’s rather centered around the BU story.
The Love Yourself series initiates a whole new reflection that’ll be considered in a future post.
BTS shared a lot with us, be it their convictions, their stories, or their cultures. While they started with the idea of protecting the youth, they’ve eventually evolved in friends of the youth and they renounced to this superhero mission. In the same way, they constantly promise to aim higher and to work harder but they’ve learned to enjoy the present as everything will eventually come to an end.

i'm not trying to clown you or anything, but i'm just genuinely curious as to why you bias sunwoo now? like what do you love about him and all? if i'm not mistaken, you used to be hyunjoon-biased correct?
hello! god bless this ask :’) i was waiting for someone to allow me to be absolutely gr0ss and gushy about my sunshine : (
and yes! you are correct :’) i used to be very hyunjoon biased! but if i were to make a comparison,,, hyunjoon was really just a crush but sunoo is the one i really fell for. anyways gush under cut cuz i doubt anyone cares
so if i have to be honest, i “fall in love at first sight” w groups. usually the person i notice first becomes my bias. theres always one defining feature i usually fall in love with. so usually i tend to bias dancers (ex. ten, taemin, chaeyeon, wooyoung, san, etc etc) but with tbz i had exposure to them since boy and had been following their music since debut, but not the group.
Not until no air dropped did i really begin to fall in love w them. I had a lot of trouble picking a bias w tbz, which is very rare for me but i also think its because i had a ton of exposure to them before. in the boy mv i think the ones that stood out to me were sunwoo hyunjoon and jacob. In giddy up i considered joining the fandom (bc legendary song omg) and the ones that stood out in that mv were sunwoo chanhee and changmin. unluckily for me, i didnt end up getting into the fandom until no air dropped and i spent over a week picking a bias between hyunjoon, sunwoo, changmin, and kevin (as u can see its not that surprising i fell for sunwoo lol,,, it was just a matter of time) anyways, it was a long week but hyunjoons smile really just,,,,,, sold me
Tumblr media
like cmon are you kidding me look at that he has the prettiest smile on earth and i still stand by that opinion. and after really investing myself in tbz, i found myself loving his unique dance style. the way he presents himself is so genuine and different from what i usually prefer in dancers. My favorite dancer is by far Ten and my brain auto compares dancers to him but with hyunjoon,,, the style was just so different that it was impossible to compare the two. So yeah I still love hyunjoon a lot! its just,,,, i love sunoo more
tbh i have no idea when i started falling so hard for kim sunwoo. it really just came gradually,,, and thats super strange for my “love at first sight” aries venus :’) though i dont remember exactly what moment made me start swerving, i know his lyrics and rap style played a big part in me becoming the biggest sunoonator on this earth. His first verse in 4EVER is by far the best thing i have ever heard (and in an interview he also said those lines were some of his favorite lyrics hes written!!!
another thing that really swayed me was the bday prank. that clip made me pay so much more attention to him when before i was one track minded on hyunjoon. but seeing him just break down when he realized those he loved weren’t actually fighting showed me how genuine he was. by paying more attention to him, i really just,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, swooned for that dorky smile of his (example below bc i want to c’:)
Tumblr media
and his overall quirkiness.
something ive also been loving and noticing recently is his absolute hatred for skinny jeans LOL and same. I literally wear joggers every single day bc i cant be bothered. Sunwoos fashion looks so comfortable and he pulls it off so well! its something i can appreciate and love
and the final thing. this is probably the biggest reason i absolutely love love love him! its the way he interacts and treats his fans. idk if you follow the fancafe but sunwoo updates the most out of all of the members. He basically writes in the fancafe every single day, even if its as simple as “deobis what are you doing?” and no matter what, hes always talking about deobis in his updates and almost always reminds us that he loves us! theres one fancafe letter he wrote that i have bookmarked and saved and its the one where he literally starts off by saying that hes awake at 5:20 am (iirc this was after TFMAs where they won the next leader award) bc he cant sleep and he just pours out his late night (or in this case early morning lol) thoughts and its just him talking about his career and how he is so honored to be able to perform on the same stage as his seniors. he also talks about how he is so grateful to deobis and begins explaining his thoughts about the relationship between artists and their fans and how beautiful he finds this relationship. and he continues to describe what kind of singer he wants to be: a loveable singer who can cheer others up. he said that deobis are the ones who helped him become the person he is today and how he always will be sincere to deobis that cheer for him :’(( this is a super dumbed down ver of his letter bc my korean isnt extremely good but he basically ends by saying he’ll continue to improve for deobis and that he really loves us :( this letter was then posted around an hour later at around 6 am :( so he basically spent an hour writing a letter to deobis at the crack of dawn just bc he wanted to tell us his thoughts,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i rly,,,,,,,, im so sad hes the sweetest :(
oh also special creds to @jushaknyeon (especially this hakkjae clown), @noairmv, and @hwqll for clowning me so hard into finally biasing him love u guys sm lol
this is probably way way way more than what you were expecting but i really needed to let it all out :’) i love him to the end of the universe and back! and im pretty sure this time hes just going to be stuck with me :’) (his loss lmao)
if you read all the way down to here im so sorry for wasting your time LOLOLOL here is a sunoo gif as an apology

Stray Kids on Tumblr / Seungmin
Chan // Woojin // Minho // Changbin // Hyunjin // Jisung // Felix // Seungmin // Jeongin
Okay so
He went to LA for a bit right
Like back in elementary years but whatever
Anyways
He kept in touch with his LA friends for years
And then someone was like
Hey get a tumblr so i can message you there its easier
And he was like
Okay
Then seungmin ended up with a tumblr
his friend barely even messaged him rip seungmin
His url has something to do with snails
Because his nickname is snail
Annnnnyways
Didn’t take long for him to track down the day6 tag
So little trainee seungmin joins the day6 fanbase through tumblr
Welcome seungmin
Has no shame when it comes to reblogging day6 stuff
Reblogs a lot of the audio stuff
Concert videos too
Allllll the covers they do as well
His blog is just a mash up of day6
Other random kpop stuff
Breakfast recipes
Inspirational quotes
And like
A few random other things
But he got bored one day and decided to work a bit on his mobile theme
Just his mobile theme he wasn’t devoted enough to work on desktop theme
Anyways
Seungmin just strikes me as a super aesthetic person
So i feel like he’d have some cool photo of you know those pine trees in fog
But he was like thats not enough
So he got a gif of it
And it looks super cool
Has a nice off white almost grey background
Somehow managed to make the font fit perfectly with everything
Has a cool quote or something as the header
Lowkey has hipster vibes to his blog
And since he only either blogs text posts
And aesthetic day6 things
His blog is actually suuuuuper aesthetic
Even though its a mashup of a lot of things
He still managed to make it look aesthetic
draws the attention of a quite a few people
So he doesn’t have zero followers
But he also isn’t like famous
Also doesn’t put much work into his blog
After all he has bigger things to focus on
Like debuting
But people really like him
You know how seungminnie writes in his diary a lot?
I bet he would also take to writing his thoughts out on tumblr as well
He wasn’t really sure when it started
But he’d make little text posts of possible lyrics and ideas that came out of his head that he couldn’t find a use for
And sk lyrics are deep as heck so his would be just as deep
And these posts actually got quite popular
Fit in with the aesthetic of his blog as well
One day he reblogged one of your day6’s posts
And because who doesnt check for tags when people reblog their stuff
You hopped over to his blog to see if he tagged anything
He didnt really tag it anymore than just the members name and day6
But you were like fair enough
And then you scrolled through his blog just for the heck of it
And you realized just how nice of a blog this was???
It gave you like studyblr vibes but with a good mix of kpop stuff
And you really liked it
So that day seungmin gained another follower
And he followed your right back
Legit nothing else happened after that until mooooooonths later
Like months
When stray kids started doing the survival show
And you fell deep
Deeeeeeeeep
Into the hole that is stray kids
And starting posting about it
During one of his breaks he got on his phone
And just kind of mindlessly got onto tumblr
And one of your posts about sk showed up on his dash
It was one of the first time’s he’d seen something about his group on tumblr
His very own group
It made him super excited
So he checked out your blog again to find out that you were super into stray kids
And it gave him all the energy the previous dancing had taken away from him
He felt like he was floating knowing people were already out their excited for their debut
And someone who was running a cool blog like you at that!
He’d totally become one of those cute anons
Who somehow lands a super cute name
Of course its ‘snail’
Always signs off with the cute lil snail emoji
Any message from him makes your day because man he was the softest person you’d ever talked with
Somehow started talking about day6
And you discovered this snail anon was the biggest fanboy for day6 you’d ever met your whole life
And man did you support his fanboying.
Screamed a loooooot about day6
And you were surprised how well he knew the group
And all the members
He had their personalities down to the T
It was very impressive
Eventually you mentioned stray kids
Because
After all
Your blog was a majority of skz at this point.
Why else would he be following you
You were surprised to learn he knew about the group pretty well
Really well actually
Knew more things about the group than you did
That's when you started to notice things were getting a lil fishy
None of your followers seemed to notice
But the times you got your anons
And when he seemed most active on tumblr
Seemed to be lining up with koreas time
And all the big events skz was having
Snail anon was never around
But when skz fell silent
Snail anon was always there
Talking about how he got a break from work
So one message you got from him
You decided to ask him to direct message you.
You just snuck it into the tags of the ask
Because you knew he’d read it
And not everyone on tumblr would read it
A day later
Your phone goes off
And you see a message from none other than snail anon
You’re not really sure how to start
So you start off by asking if he’s in korea
And hes like
“Yah”
And so you ask a few more questions
And with each answer
You’re starting to get more positive this isn’t just any old person
So
Naturally
You hop onto the member profile for stray kids
And learn that seungmin’s nickname is snail
And everything connects
You calmly send of a message asking if its actually him
And the line goes dead for a good bit of time
But eventually he gets back to you
With a simple
“Yup, thats me…”
And you’re like wtf
So calm
But then he was like
“Was it really that easy to tell”
And you’re kinda like no not really
Because to be fair most people probably wouldn’t have noticed
You just had some sort of special feeling
Maybe one of those dumb “reblog for luck” tumblr posts had finally helped you out.

HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE, SỰ KHÁC NHAU GIỮA TIỂU THUYẾT VÀ PHIM

HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE, SỰ KHÁC NHAU GIỮA TIỂU THUYẾT VÀ PHIM

THIS POST WILL BE UPDATED
If some of you have seen a previous post where I mentioned some screenplay ideas that I had and I thank those that responded really positively! So if you don’t know, I want to go into my masters into screenwriting. In comparison with the music training I have, I have almost no official screenwriting training (besides a couple of classes). I know one of the best ways to get better at writing in general is to ask people to read your script. However, since I know everyone is busy (and I’m really bad at asking people because I’m an anxious piece of shit)  I know not everyone is up for this. However, it would help a lot if a couple of people would read it over and tell me if you would watch this on your TV or in the theaters. You don’t have to edit my writing skills (which is much appreciated though!) you just need to tell me if you would watch it or not. And if you would not, what would you do to make it better?
I know I could ask friends, which I will, but one of the best advice I’ve ever heard is ask the general public, people you don’t know very well, and see what they think. So that’s where you come in. I know everyone has different taste in movies and TV so I don’t expect everyone to read everything I have to offer.
Anyway, if you are interested, either comment here or message me and when the script is done I can send you the draft and you can read it over. So here are the scripts I am working on/would like to finish eventually. (and please signal boost this if you can. you may not be interested but someone out there might!)
Title: Flowerboy/Format: Short film/Genre: Fantasy, psychological, drama, tragedy/Synopsis: A boy witnesses a tragic death of his brother and will do anything to prevent that from happening, even time traveling. As he spends his whole life traveling back in time to save his brother, flowers start to grow on his body…./Extra notes: One of the main characters is transgender, I envisioned this as a prologue to another main story idea I had where it would be in the POV of the brother that died, I listened to BTS’s Spring Day and I Need U while coming up with this story
Title: King Ferdinand/Format: Feature film/Genre: Coming of age, high school, psychological, horror, thriller/Synopsis: Shy and bookish Ferdinand is a new kid at a high school after being in the hospital for almost a year. He looks forward to his new life at his new high school, but everyone seems to treat him as if he doesn’t exist, even the teachers and staff. He tries to find answers when he learns of the school’s horrible tragedy a year ago…/Extra notes: I wrote this script in high school and will be in the process of being edited and rewritten, the story is set in the 90s
Title: Zoey/Format: Feature film/Genre: Coming of age, drama, music/Synopsis: Two music college freshmen named Zoey end up being roommates. Their names may be the same but they are drastically different. One is an aspiring jazz drummer who wants to prove to her family that she can do more than just tabla drumming (Classical Indian drumming) and the other is a young violin virtuoso who has to deal with the pressure of fame and her relationship with her girlfriend. The movie deals with the two girls’ different but similar lives as well as supporting each other.
Title: For the Dogs (working title)/Format: TV pilot/Genre: Action, adventure, dystopian/Synopsis: In the future, the world is unsafe to live in due to the acid rain and the “zombie” dogs that roam the earth leaving the entire world into an apocalyptic waste land and civilizations begin to thrive underground. The government uses this world’s advantage to throw their prisoners to the surface to see if they can survive for 30 days for redemption. The main story follows a sweet farm boy named Sky who is wrongly accused for a murder. His world is turned around when he has to face this horrible survival game… Extra notes: honest to god was inspired by togainu no chi
Title: What’s Riot?! (working title)/Format: TV pilot/Genre: Action, adventure, psychological, comedy-drama, crime, mystery, thriller/Synopsis: A young man wakes up with no memory in an abandoned drug store. The only clue he has is a phone (that may or may not be his) with a social media app that lets people talk about the latest news and chat with each other. He uses the chatroom and its inhabitants to help him figure out his identity. He also learns about the weird users behind the app, an infamous gang that wants to erase themselves from existence, a drug that lets people become a different person (literally??), and a murder where no one can find the body anymore. Extra notes: this story is like my baby I had this idea since i was 13, yes it is very durarara inspired, it was going to be set in Japan but then I realized that it would be impossible right now for the current American film company to make this happen so I changed the setting to a fictional LA town and the characters are now all lots of POC
Title: A City with No People/Format: TV pilot (animated)/Genre: Action, science fiction, comedy-drama/Synopsis: Six kids wake up in a video game inspired city where they realize there is no people except for themselves. They try to solve the city’s puzzles (like a video game) to figure out where they come from and how to get out of it. Most of the time, they just like collecting coins and getting a bunch of shiny stuff/Extra notes: this could be a video game too and I’d love to write for video games
Title: Untitled boyband movie/Format: Feature film (animated)/Genre: Music, drama, found footage, mockumentary/Synopsis: Five regular teenage boys are discovered through YouTube and are made into the most popular boyband in the world. The movie will follow the boys’ journey through their social media like Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube vlogs and interviews made by corporate companies. Some of their more personal footage show their raw emotions behind the whole stress and process of being a famous pop star. All of this fame and pleasing the fans... are they who they are anymore? /Extra notes: There’s so many stories behind how these famous pop stars were keeping their “goody” image and then destroyed themselves as fame goes on (Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, etc) and I really enjoy watching all these vlogs these kpop stars do and wonder if they really are sincere and happy with their lives even though there’s always news discourse saying the fans won’t leave them alone. Also the documentary on Nu’est made me cry
Title: Shattered Looking Glass (working title)/Format: TV pilot or film /Genre: Dark fantasy, horror, fairy-tale, action/Synopsis: The legend goes that dark demons were jealous of the Fairy Royal family ruling over a prosperous kingdom. These same demons had tried to create a mirror for their beloved Fairy King to look into the mirror to see their true self; little did the king know that the mirror posses a “poison” that whoever looks in it sees their worst and becomes their worst selves. The plan was going well until the demons dropped the large mirror and shattered into tiny pieces. These pieces have blown over the kingdom over time and lodge into even the innocent’s heart or eyes, thus only making them see evil. Feared that the Fairy Royal family would find out, the demons took the next heir and kept her in a glass coffin for 100 years. The story follows a gifted mercanary named Wendy who is finally approached by her superior to save the kingdom and find the next Fairy Queen Alice.  /Extra notes: Had this idea for a long time too, I think writing dark fantasy stuff is pretty cool. Btw the mirror idea is something that Frozen could have done!! But nope, too dark for kids.

my adventures of being an anti to being the biggest stan of EXO
Hey ~ this post isn’t really a need-to-read blog but if you do read it then thank you. Since EXO’s 5th year anniversary is coming soon, I just wanted to share how much I fucking hated the whole genre KPOP itself and how EXO like legit changed my life. cheesy af but bear with me it’s a good story i tell ya, or so I think lol.
I haven’t been a kpop fan for long, but since I’ve been exposed to kpop since I was a kid I grew up listening to a few selected kpop songs which are from the groups every kpop stan should know about. I’m from the Philippines, and I’m still a junior in high school ~ ever since I was a kid me and my elder sister (who also legit turned into a kpop fan herself because of me // both of us were antis before) always tuned in on MTV because music is just the world to us. Back then, I was the biggest brat for One Direction ever since they debuted. So me and my sis would always tune in on MTV to see them, but since it was MTV Asia, ofc they would show groups from all over Asia. That’s when I saw all legends and the biggest hits on kpop  like SNSD, 2NE1, 2PM, BIGBANG, SUJU, WONDER GIRLS, PSY, and EXO themselves.
Since EXO was already a big hit during the Wolf era, that was the very first time I saw them on TV and I sure as hell hated them the first time I saw them. I was all like, “Ugh, they’re disgusting” and “Why do they even exist” during that time ~keep in mind this was 2012 ~ I tried to let myself watch them but they never just grew on me that time, like ever. And so at school, my classmates were already aware of this rising kpop group EXO, and I could always hear the name Luhan and Chanyeol. I can never forget how much of a fangirl my friend was to them and I was always glaring at them for liking those types of music and bands since I was a hardcore Directioner during that time.
It wasn’t long since Growl was released, and it became a really huge hit here in the Philippines! I swear to God I remember always hearing the song in malls, in public markets, in stores, in the sidewalks and basically just everywhere! I began to hear more about this group but just ignored it since kpop just really wasn’t my style back then. I saw them around tv, on the news, newspapers and magazines and they just legit boomed during that time. My classmates went really crazy for them and I was still like, “Meh, those idiots aren’t even as famous as One Direction”.
Then came Overdose and EXO boomed even more but I still ignored. I saw them on TV when they had their first concert on Manila, they were on the headlines for singing a very famous filipino song called “Hawak Kamay” and was praised a lot by people and impressed some elders for that. ugh such an iconic time says my exo-l self who missed a lot during that time
Tons and tons and TONS of EXO merchandise were around the Philippines and everyone I see was always wearing them! Although some were not aware of who EXO was, the name EXO and the members numbers were a big fashion hit here in the Philippines. I always saw WOLF 88 printed on their shirts, some with the other members numbers and printed names like shit they still are a big fashion hit here in the Philippines until now.
Moving on, I didn’t hear much about EXO during the Call Me Baby era but I still saw them on tv and online. I kind of faded away from 1D since Zayn left lmao lol iconic time but I still liked the band and their music and all. After I faded away from 1D I was addicted to anime and became an animaniac lol. This isn’t much of an important part of my story so I’ll fast forward.
Fast forward to when I was like in the middle of high school, I have a friend who was a kpop fan since 3rd grade according to what she said, and as I’ve mentioned, ever since before I used to listen to a few kpop songs and I forgot how but I did discover Jay Park on tv and then listened to his music and had a huge crush on him for about 2 years before I became a kpop fan (i still listen to him now i luv his music) and then I listened to some of Taeyang’s music (ofc Eyes,Nose, Lips), with which I had no idea was part of legit the biggest kpop band in the world until I was tempted to listen to some BB songs and secretly listened to Growl when my sister wasn’t watching lmao because who doesn’t like that song???, So back to my point, my friend whom I never knew was a die-hard kpop fan since 3rd grade, was always silent since understandably not much of my friends were kpop fans when I first entered high school.
This part is for me, a hilariously pathetic excuse since this is the time I started being a kpop fan:
It was when we were tackling about the Music of Korea in class, our book had SNSD, Red Velvet, SUJU, 2NE1, and Wonder Girls and had a fun fact part about Dara since she’s called the Pambansang Krung-Krung (”krung krung” is a filipino slang which means foolish weird or crazy and “pambansang” meaning national so she’s legit called the National Weirdo of the Philippines lmao nothing offensive btw dont take it srsly) here in the PH. So after our class, our teacher told us to prepare a dance or a song in korean and put us in groups and I was a group leader since, not to brag, I’m pretty good at singing lmao, I got a little excited over the thought that we would probably sing Eyes Nose Lips or dance Growl and Fantastic Baby like that was already awesome for me. I had a friend who was really good at dancing so I assigned her to help out learning the choreo with me and I searched for what we were gonna present. I ended up choosing Come Back Home by 2ne1, EXO’s Growl and Good Boy by GD and TY. We didn’t have much time for practicing so we just dropped Growl and mashed up Good Boy and Come Back Home.
But while we were practicing our dance, we considered Growl and I downloaded the dance practices for our chosen songs, me and my group watched the choreos carefully and guess what? While watching the Growl dance practice, I suddenly felt weird while watching this EXO member I never noticed before. I asked my kpop friend about it, and I eventually found out this little cute boy was Baekhyun. He wasn’t my bias though, my first EXO bias was Tao but after I found out there were 3 members who left the group and Tao was one of them, I became sad. Tao wasn’t my ub tho.
After our presentations in class, when I got home I suddenly itched to search for EXO some more. I mean it wouldn’t hurt to know about them right? And so I searched and started watching interviews and watched EXO Showtime since people had recommended that watching that would be a good start for a new fan. I din’t watch all the ep’s of EXO Showtime but I did watch the famous episodes of the show, including the last EP which was when I suddenly fell head over heels for the fucking maknae Oh Sehun.
After that, Sehun just became my universal bias, and then I watched Monster and fell in love, and then I became their biggest fan after just one month. Always keeping up with updates, following all the members who had IG accounts, and officially became an EXO-L just when I celebrated with other EXO-L’s online during Yixing’s birthday last year when What U Need? MV came out and then eventually Yixing became my biggest bias wrecker ever.
I’ve only been an EXO-L for seven months, but I have memorized almost every lyric of all their albums and have downloaded every album on my phone. I know all their birthdays and their facts and their ideal types and I’ve memorized some choreos of their songs, I havent’t met them yet but I’m positive to see them before Xiumin’s military enlistment this 2019.
I’ve realized there’s nothing wrong with trying something new out, EXO became a big inspiration for my life, they made me change into a more hard working person. Because of them I actually considered not giving up my dreams of becoming a singer and because of them I actually learned to appreciate dancing lmao. They’ve helped me into focusing on my studies and suprisingly my grades went higher ever since I entered a new life of being a kpop fan.
I explored kpop a bit more after becoming an EXO-L, I also joined the BTS Army fandom shortly after becoming an EXO-L and after seven months of being a kpop fan I legit stan a lot of groups and singers now. I’m a multifandom girl now even tho EXO is my bias group.
I stan BTS, Seventeen, NCT, KARD, 2NE1, BIGBANG, BLACKPINK, DEAN, Red Velvet, GOT7, Jay Park and Heize. I know almost 500 kpop groups and I know a lot about the history of kpop and I know how to speak average Korean now and its only been seven months lol.
Anyways, that ends my long post lol. Cheers to you if you finished reading this. EXO SARANGHAJA! EXO AND EXO-L FIGHTING! Cheers to 5 years with our beloved idols!
(IM LEGIT SO EXCITED FOR THEIR NEW COMEBACK OMF BYE)
