A Part of Her
For various reasons (train strikes etc) I haven’t done a commute fic (where I just thrash something out in a linear form and don’t obsessively edit it later) for a while, but a little idea occurred to me today so here is a hurried lunch-break fic…
What do we call these two? Was it Astro Turf?
Whatever, a bit of Allie and Virg…
🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
“Virg?”
“What’s up, Allie?”
His little brother had drifted across the room and was slowly running his hand along the edge of the piano lid watching the hammers rise and fall as Virgil played. He’d not said anything for a while and not wanting him to believe his presence was unwelcome, Virgil had just smiled at him and waited for whatever was coming. When he eventually spoke, Alan’s voice was steeped in uncertainly.
“This was… Mom’s, right?”
“Yes Allie it was. We had it shipped over when we moved here.”
Alan nodded and was quiet again for a while. Clearly something was brewing. Virgil shifted from the concerto he was niggling at into a slightly sparser, atmospheric piece which gave more space and time for any words that might be coming.
“She… played a lot?”
“Pretty much every moment she got. More than me I think.”
“Why do you play so much?”
“Why do I play?”
Virgil paused to consider, looking down at his hands as he ran a couple of gentle arpeggios through a series of chords. There was a lot more behind that question than there appeared and he needed to choose his answer carefully.
“Firstly, because I enjoy it, I like the music I create and I like the fact it’s something I’m creating, even if it goes a bit wonky.”
Alan nodded, blue eyes met his with very deliberate focus. He was clearly concentrating on every word Virgil said.
“Secondly, because you guys enjoy it. I like being able to help Scott relax, or Gordon laugh… or cheer you up sometimes.”
Another nod. Virgil stopped playing a moment and rested his fingers over the black notes.
“Um, I also often play to try and process how I feel about things. Sometimes it’s hard to put the difficult stuff into words but…” he played a series of chords around D minor and then coughed and reverted back to a slightly cheerier key as he noticed Alan try to cover up rubbing at his eye by scratching his nose.
“Then I guess the final one is… it helps me feel close to her, to Mom. I imagine her hands on the keys, making the same sounds and I feel like a part of her is still with me.”
Alan closed his eyes and whispered something hurriedly. Virgil leaned over to put his right hand over his brother’s left where he held the side of the instrument in a vice grip.
“I didn’t quite catch that Allie?”
He opened his eyes and looked Virgil full in the face again, eyes wide. “Can you teach me?”
Virgil knew his expression must have betrayed his surprise as his baby brother rushed on hurriedly.
“I know you did before when I was a kid and I sucked, I didn’t try very hard or practise because I didn’t get it. I didn’t get what it meant. And I’m probably still going to suck at it Virgil, I know that.”
Alan swallowed hard.
“But I want to try because maybe, maybe there is a part of her inside me too and if there is I want to find it.”
Virgil pulled gently on the young man’s hand and guided him around to perch next to him on the stool and wrapped him in his arms.
“She’s in your every cell, your every breath, Alan. And she would be so proud of you.”
Alan sniffed and tightened his grip on Virgil’s shirt. Virgil unpeeled his little brother’s fingers from the flannel and guided his right hand to rest on the keyboard.
“If you want to play it would be a privilege to teach you, but you need never doubt she is a part of you Alan.”
Alan twisted and placed his left hand on the keys alongside his right.
“Show me. Please?”

anaroceit week - day three - stove's on fire
@anaroceitweek
prompt: cooking/comfort
relationship: romantic anaroceit (a continuation of yesterday's fic!)
word count: 891
(cw -> past disordered eating, cursing, a bit of self-hatred, mention of existentialism)
---
The sound of a hot pan sizzling was starting to feel less like a threat and more like an invitation.
It had been three weeks since Roman was released from the hospital, and progress was slow. A lot slower than Roman wanted it to be. But Virgil and Janus were being patient, even though Roman was sure that helping him through each meal had to be getting old by now.
“Roman, can you pass the pepper?” Virgil asked.
Roman’s therapist suggested that he help prepare the food. If he touched it with his hands while it was being made, it might make him feel less nervous about eating it. It would show his brain that it was completely harmless, and perhaps he would be more tempted to eat.
Luckily, Virgil wasn’t treating him too fragilly. Ever since the incident, Remus had been acting like Roman was made of glass, like he would shatter into millions of pieces if he didn’t speak with the utmost kindness and gentleness. Considering Remus’ default personality, seeing him act this was way more unnerving than comforting to Roman. But Virgil seemed to get that memo, and he spoke to Roman like nothing had happened at all that day. It was a nice break.
Janus was a little sweeter and kinder than usual, but he was still very relaxing to be around. One of the main things he did was stick close to Roman, showering with him when he wanted it and giving him all the company he could want. The thoughts weren’t so loud when there were people around to distract Roman. That was something he found out after around a week of being back home.
Once Roman passed the pepper and Virgil shook a healthy amount into the dish, the room started to smell more spicy. Roman loved it. He was feeling especially like royalty lately, because Virgil and Janus had taken to helping him make all of his favorites: spicy curry, pasta with alfredo sauce, and pretty much every dessert imaginable. In a way, being able to decide every meal made Roman feel like he was regaining control, just in a different, more healthy way.
“You guys are the best,” Roman said suddenly, overwhelmed by emotion as he hugged Virgil close from behind, kissing the top of his head.
“That’s a lot for just me putting some pepper into the sauce,” Virgil teased. “But yes, you’re the best too, Roman.”
“No, I’m being serious,” Roman said. “I’m being totally crazy and a complete control freak, and it’s like you guys don’t even care. You’re just there for me. No matter what. And- making me food I like, and giving me all the company I could ask for- I just don’t think I deserve it sometimes, you know? You guys are too sweet.”
Virgil stirred thoughtfully for a moment, silent as he sprinkled a pinch of salt into the sauce and turned down the heat. Very slowly, he turned to face Roman, holding up the spoon.
“Taste this,” he said, “Tell me what you think.”
Roman blew on the contents of the spoon for a few moments before taking a slow, careful sip. Savory and fatty, the sauce tasted exactly as delicious as he thought it would. Virgil really was gifted.
“It’s so good,” he said. “Seriously, don’t change a thing. It tastes amazing.”
Virgil smiled. “It’s just as amazing as you,” he said.
Roman gasped and laughed in shock, swatting Virgil with his free hand.
“You devil!” he shouted. “Ruining the moment with your self-love agendas!”
“Oh, did I hear self-love?” Janus asked, peeking his head into the kitchen. “You know that’s my speciality.”
“Yeah? Well, Roman currently needs a few pointers.”
“Hey! I do not!” Roman laughed, continuing to blindly swat at Virgil. “I was just saying- you guys have to admit that I’m being annoying right now.”
“No we don’t,” Janus said. “And we never will. Out of spite now, more than anything else.”
“Sometimes it’s okay to be a burden,” Virgil shrugged. “Lord knows we all have been a burden before. Remember my existential phase?”
“Okay, that was more amusing than anything,” Janus chuckled. “Mr. What If We’re All In A Simulation And Nothing Is Real.”
“Shut the fuck up, unless you want me to bring up when you got butthurt that Santa didn’t bring you a snake for Christmas,” Virgil shot back, his eyes glinting with amusement and challenge.
“It was the only thing on my Christmas list!” Janus exclaimed, “The only thing!”
To shut him up, Virgil dipped the spoon Roman had been holding into the sauce again, blowing on it a few times before shoving it into Janus’ mouth.
“There,” he said. “It’s almost as salty as you.”
Janus let out a muffled laugh as he swallowed the sauce and took the spoon out of his mouth, gently bopping Virgil on the nose with it. Roman sighed and took the spoon back, stirring the pot once more before turning off the stove completely. He was so lucky to be with these two dorks, even if they stopped at nothing to one-up each other. Roman couldn’t talk when he was the exact same way.
Three burdens, existing together and helping each other through it all while eating some delicious curry. Now that sounded like something Roman could get behind.

Distracting
For @dukexietyweek Day 2: Games           (Ao3)(login required)
Word Count: 1579
Characters: Virgil, Remus, Roman (mentioned)
Rating: T
Warnings: Intrusive thoughts, anxiety, crying, mentions of suicide, referenced suicide attempt, sexual themes, gore mention
Virgil and Remus tend to get serious when they play video games. And when Remus gets anxious because of his thoughts, Virgil knows just how to comfort him.
---
Sometimes having a boyfriend like Remus meant getting dragged into the Imagination for some crazy adventure. Sometimes it meant cuddling him so he wouldn't flail in his sleep when he had nightmares. Sometimes it meant some violent suggestive roleplay. But sometimes it meant playing video games and having a heart to heart.
Virgil was used to Remus rambling on about his frustrations while plowing through zombies. He was used to venting about his own struggles when it was his turn on the controller. They were better at talking shit when they were both playing. But this time was different.
"You know what really grinds my gears?" Remus said as he moved Leon through the police station. He was sitting on the couch, leaning on his knees and watching the screen.
"A lot of things. What is it this time?" Virgil asked from his perch on the couch.
"Roman. He won't shut up about Nico, and he keeps flooding the Imagination with fluffy romantic scenarios about Thomas getting married and growing old with him," Remus huffed as his fingers worked over the controller.
"What's wrong with that?" Virgil bristled. So maybe he was making that worse.
"Nothing, but he's setting himself up for heartache. He's trying to make his fantasies reality when Thomas doesn't really know Nico. He's not excited for the journey, just the goals. It'll bite him in the ass if he can't separate reality from fantasy."
"You're one to talk," Virgil scoffed.
"I am! When's the last time Thomas actually murdered someone? Or fought a pack of coyotes? Or decided that the blender was a good place to stick his—"
"Point made."
"I don't really want to take over the bulk of the creative work while he wallows again. I let my influence slip in too much. I thought you would have caught me back then."
"You did a good enough job that I thought those slips were just Roman being a mess," Virgil shrugged.
"Daw," Remus giggled and glanced at him quickly when he was in a safe room, "That's the nicest thing you've said to me all week!"
"It's Sunday, you dork," Virgil huffed and crossed his arms. He hated how easily Remus could fluster him even though they'd been together since before the series started.
"Yeah and? You'll probably say something even nicer to me before Saturday!"
"If I didn't have a shit ton of work to do, I'd be insulted."
"I like it when you're snarky and mean! You come up with the wittiest comebacks and threats, and it makes me feel special that you use that brain power and creativity on me!" Remus said with a shimmy.
Virgil grumbled and hid his face in his hands. He pulled his knees to his chest and tried to disappear. He really had to get better at taking compliments. At least Remus went back to playing his game.
"You know, the worst part of this whole Nico thing is that you're involved on Roman's side."
"Are you jealous that I'm spending time with Roman?"
"Nope! I like that you're friends! I don't know if I like how he's influencing how you think about Nico," Remus replied through gritted teeth.
"What are you trying to say?"
"I'm worried about you. You're usually cautious about other people, you need to know more before you get attached. If he's not the guy you guys imagine, I know Pissboy will lose it, but what about you?" Remus asked and wiped his eyes, "What happens to you when he goes back to being a tyrant?"
"Octopup?" Virgil asked and relaxed his posture.
"What if he starts blaming you and attacking you again when things go wrong?" Remus rambled. He had to pause the game because his hands were shaking, "Wouldn't it hurt more since you were actively trying to help? What if he pushes you to the edge again? I know how mean and hurtful he can get."
Virgil took the controller and set it down before pulling Remus onto his lap. Remus clung to him and trembled.
"What if I'm not enough to stop you? What if you decide to try again?"
"Your intrusive thoughts are getting to you," Virgil said softly and rubbed his back. It wasn't an accusation, but an understanding.
"I can see it so clearly. The falling, the abyss, and then you disappearing. And it could happen! It's not just a bad idea this time!" Remus sobbed, "I keep seeing you die over and over, just like the last time. And I was right back then! If I didn't show up—" he hiccuped and shook with a another wave of tears.
"Puppy," Virgil said and kissed his forehead, "I'm not going to let that happen. Even if he blames me for everything, I know he doesn't mean it, I know that the others see my worth, and I know that I can't bear the thought of actually hurting you. I can't forget the way you looked at me, the way you pulled me back without touching me. I can't do that again."
"Virgil," Remus said and looked up at him, "I love you."
"I love you too," Virgil said and hugged him, "And I won't let any other anxiety eat you alive. You're my snack."
Remus giggled wetly and nuzzled into his shoulder. It wasn't often he got anxious over his intrusive thoughts, so he was glad to have the most experienced anxious mess with him.
"Can we play a game?" Remus asked, unsure if Virgil would go with it. With all that needed to be said out of the way, Remus needed a good distraction.
"I guess Resident Evil isn't the best option. So how about this? You name a musician or band and I'll tell you what song of theirs reminds me of you," Virgil suggested. He could think of something else if he had to.
"If I don't know the song will you sing the lyrics?"
"It won't be the whole song."
"Okay. I'll just name bands I don't know well so you'll sing for me," Remus said and lifted his head, "Uh, Escape the Fate."
"Gorgeous Nightmare."
"I don't know that one," Remus pouted and dried his eyes. Virgil smirked and kissed his forehead before clearing his throat.
"'You're such a gorgeous nightmare. Old habits never seem to go away. You make me feel brand new, yeah. We resurrect it's like I've come back to life.'"
Remus giggled softly and squeezed his boyfriend. He was an emo nightmare alright.
"Black Veil Brides."
"Rebel Love Song," Virgil answered with no hesitation. Remus knew that one and he grinned at the thought.
"A Day to Remember?"
"You Had Me at Hello," Virgil responded and gently scratched his scalp.
"Lyrics?" Remus hummed and melted into the touch like a puppy.
"'What have I gotten into this time around? I know that I had sworn I'd never trust anyone again but I didn't have to. You had me at hello.'"
"Yellow car," Remus suggested, unsure if that was an actual band. Virgil caught him biting his lip and decided he wouldn't make him nervous again.
"Ocean Avenue," Virgil said before singing a few lyrics, "'If I could find you now things would get better. We could leave this town and run forever. I know someway, somehow we'll be together. Let your waves crash down on me and take me away, yeah."
"Uh, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus?" Remus asked and snuggled closer.
"Your Guardian Angel. You don't need me to sing that one," Virgil hummed, "I sing it to you at night."
"Pretty please?"
"For you, yeah," Virgil said softly and kissed away his tears.
"'Seasons are changing and waves are crashing and stars are falling all for us. Days grow longer and nights grow shorter. I can show you I'll be the one.'"
Remus laughed softly and kissed his neck.
"You're so sweet, Scare Bear!" Remus sighed and trailed his lips up Virgil's jaw, "You take such good care of me."
"That's because you take good care of me. And because no matter how gruesome and gross you are, I love you."
"Can we play one more round and then cuddle and watch a movie? Naked?" Remus asked and nipped at his ear lobe.
"You went from anxious to horny fast," Virgil noted and pulled his face away from his gremlin.
"It's not my usual horny. It's cuddly vanilla horny, and it's all because you gave me a heart boner and it spread. So can we?"
"Yeah, one more and then we can go to your room."
"Papa Roach! And you should still sing!" Remus giggled. He knew them better than Virgil.
"...To be Loved," Virgil said and leaned down right by his ear to deliver on the lyrics with the same cadence as the original recording, "'I want domination, I want your submission, I see you're not resistin', to this temptation.'"
Remus shivered at the low growl laced in Virgil's voice. He expected that but he was never ready for it. He grabbed Virgil's face and planted a smooch on his boyfriend.
"You really know how to distract me and make me squishy!" Remus purred, "Keep doing it!"
Virgil kissed him again and sank them both out. Sometimes having Remus for a boyfriend meant being vulnerable in a casual setting. Sometimes it meant that Remus would need him more than he let on. And most times it meant Virgil had his own piece of heaven.

Echoes of the Past - Day 20
Prompt: "Fear comes with imagination, it's a penalty, it's the price of imagination."
CW: Abandonment
“So are you gonna tell him?” Remus asked, hanging upside down, legs hooked on one of Virgil’s spiderwebs that he had intentionally made strong enough to bare his weight. Okay, so maybe it wasn't actually Virgil's spiderweb, maybe it was one Remus had made so that he could pretend to be spider prey. It was fun playing the victim sometimes, but only if he was playing. Remus didn't actually like being the victim, it was far too boring.
“What good would it do? Your brother is more stubborn than you are, and that’s saying a lot.” The two of them were relaxing in Virgil’s room as best friends would do. Most of the time they would choose one of their rooms to relax in, on rare occasions they would break into Janus’ room and force him to join them. Sure they could use the common area but there was something nice about the comfortability of their own space.
“You aren’t wrong, but I’m also offended that you think I’m less stubborn than him.”
Virgil snorted, tossing one of his pillows at Remus. “Look, you accepted a long time ago that half of your best creations actually come from my fears, that by taking what freaks me out and mixing it into your handiwork you are able to do so much more. Not only did you accept it, but you basically came to the conclusion on your own. Your brother has his head so far up his own ass that he can’t see that half of what he creates are escapes and fanciful reasonings to get out of my thoughts.” Virgil shrugged, “I think it’s fair to call your brother the more stubborn one, or at least the dumb one.”
“Dumb I will accept, but stubborn, I’m going to make you eat those words one day.”
Virgil tilted his head, and then snorted with laughter, leaving a very confused Remus to throw a pillow at him. Though this pillow made uncomfortably squishy noises as Virgil caught it. Virgil didn't want to know what exactly Remus had replaced the stuffing with.
“Sorry, sorry, I just, y’know how the nerd is super literal?”
“Yeah…” Remus answered skeptically.
“What if we made him a bowl of word soup, or like made him eat his words printed out on a piece of paper.”
This time Remus snorted, shaking his head. “Do you know how much trouble old pops would try to put us in if we did something like that? We'd probably end up with another parent fight, which might at least be interesting.”
“Yeah, I know," Virgil didn't want to there to be another fight. Things were already pretty strained and adding another fight between Janus and Patton wasn't a great idea, especially if Virgil ever wanted their to be a union again. Virgil missed the others. He missed Logan, he kinda missed Patton, and he missed Roman. Sure he was antagonistic, but that didn't mean he didn't care about the others. "but you have to agree that that imagery is kind of funny.”
Remus nodded, finally coming down from the web, skittering his way over to Virgil. “It is pretty funny. What other idioms do you think we could exploit?”
He didn't want to hurt Logan, but the thought of getting him to fall for stupid idioms was a funny one. Virgil curled up on his bed, watching Remus wave his arms excitedly. After he began to run out of the last of his energy, Remus crawled onto Virgil's bed, flopping onto him like someone using a beanbag chair.
"Personally I think burning bridges might actually be a fun one, we could set it up in the imagination." Remus yawned and Virgil began to gently pet the chaotic side's hair, smiling softly and shaking his head lightly.
"That sounds great Re," Virgil whispered, "We can do that later. It sounds like it's time for you to recharge."
"Like a robot. Do you think that Logan is a robot?" He asked, yawning again and clawing his nails into Virgil's shoulder like a cat.
"Later," Virgil promised again. He didn't know that Later would never come. He didn't know that the friendship he valued so much would become fragile as he tried to piece everyone together. Virgil did something that he knew he would regret for the rest of his life. He left Remus behind the same way that Roman had, turning away and never coming back. Each step he took that brought him closer to the others was a step that took him away from Remus, and everyday Remus had to watch as his best friend slipped over to hang out and be with the brother who had left Remus behind.
“Y’know,” Remus said to Janus, body half melted over the side of the couch. “I knew one day he would leave us… I just didn’t expect it to hurt so much.” He looked at the empty space in Janus' room where Virgil used to sit. "I kinda figured I would just get over it, but he left a fucking big wound."
"I know Remus," Janus whispered, flexing the fingers in his gloves. He knew how much it hurt. He was experiencing the same pain, watching as the side he held raise walked away from him.
"You aren't going to leave me Jannie, right?" He asked.
"Of course not," Janus asked and Remus wished he had never believed Janus. He wished he hadn't believed in either of them, because they were both liars.
"You once told me that my nightmares came from you, little spider." Remus muttered as darkness filled the room and ink black tentacles sprang from his back.
"But I think it might actually be my turn to make the nightmares. To become the thing you always thought I was." Remus cackled, but it was dark and sinister. He destroyed the dark side, merging it with his side of the imagination. He had been left behind, so he had every intention of taking over.

Thundertober/Inktober 2022 Day 5: Mole
The Mole is a beloved piece of International Rescue’s fleet. When it gets damaged on a rescue, the team recalls their favourite rescues with the Mole.
Continuity: TOS
Tagging: @dragonoffantasyandreality @thundergeek59 @janetm74 @katblu42 @liseylou (Please ask if you would like to be alerted when I update or write new stories)
Prompt list
------
Brains stared incredulously at the crushed metal that once formed the drill head of one of his favourite non-Thunderbird creations. It could withstand even the hardest of rocks beneath the Earth’s surface. At least, that’s what he thought.
Virgil let out a low whistle as he saw the carnage, rushing to complete pre-flight checks before returning home. Scott had already left, and was likely halfway back by now. He patted the scientist sympathetically on the shoulder, prompting Brains to meet the pilot’s eyes. “I’ll give you hand with that when we get home…”
Brains let out a sigh of relief. “Thank y-you, Virgil…” Even with some help, taking off the damaged drill and redesigning the alloy they used was going to be a tough one.
------
“So…” Alan said nervously during debriefing. “How much trouble do you think I’m in with Brains?”
His brothers and father exchanged looks before replying.
“A lot.”
“You’re so dead.”
“Deader than dead.”
“Start running…”
“All so wonderfully ominous…” Alan huffed, sitting down in his usual seat rather heavily. “Thanks…” He finished with gritted teeth, narrowing his eyes at his family.
Gordon grinned impishly at his younger brother. “Don’t forget Virgil is on Mole duty too, so you’ve gotta watch out for him as well.” All eyes turned towards the second brother.
“Honestly,” Virgil smirked, “you don’t have to worry about me so much.” Alan smiled and relaxed a little. “But yes, absolutely run from Brains.” Alan was no longer relaxed. “I’m pretty sure he’s still in shock though, so you’ve got a little time.”
A few more moments passed before someone else said anything. “Hey guys.” John piped up from the other side of the room. “What if Brains and Virgil can’t fix the Mole? What do we do?”
“I’m pretty sure we can fix it, John.” Virgil raised an eyebrow at his brother.
“The Mole is so well-loved by all of us,” Gordon strode forward, “I can’t imagine ever going without it.”
Scott nodded in agreement. “Some of my favourite rescues involved the Mole. I could never think of it not being part of the fleet either.”
Alan gave his eldest brother a look. “What rescues?”
“Off the top of my head,” Scott paused before answering, “the ‘Pit of Peril’ incident.”
“Oh yeah.” Gordon lit up. “That was one of my favourites too…”
“Seriously?” Virgil stared incredulously at his brothers. “I almost died in that pit. And Gordon wasn’t even there!”
“That’s why it’s one of my favourites.” Gordon smirked, leaning back in his chair, arms folded in front of him. “I watched the chaos from outside.”
“It was one of the early ones, so it kinda stuck…” Scott admitted.
Virgil rolled his eyes, before adding in his own two cents. “My favourite? The ‘City of Fire’ incident.”
It was Scott’s turn to stare now. “The one where we both almost died because we weren’t sure if that gas would work properly?”
“That’s the one.”
“Fair enough.” Scott shrugged. “Anyone else got any favourite Mole rescues?”
Alan thought for a minute before answering. “That time we had to rescue the Duchess of Royston.”
“Oh, I remember.” Virgil shuddered, remembering how the noble woman had paused to pick up one of her prized possessions. “I know that painting meant a lot to her, but I was about ready to yell for her to hurry up.”
“Good thing you got out when you did.” Scott hummed. “I was so worried when the DOMO lost its grip on that wall…”
“We know.” The whole room chorused, well aware by now of the eldest’s smotherhen tendencies.
Someone cleared their throat on the other side of the room, cutting the conversation short. Everyone turned to see Brains leaning in the doorway to the rest of the house. “Y-you ready, Virgil?”
Virgil looked back at his father, silently asking if he was free to leave. “We’ve got this. You two go make sure we have more stories to tell about the Mole…”
The two engineers grinned at the instruction, leaving the rest of International Rescue to finish the debrief. They would make sure their favourite pod vehicle would survive to burrow another day.

Hide N Seek
Story :   They had started their delivery at dawn. A little rabbit, who had gone to work in town, and who could not take the risk of taking his family with him, however numerous they were. He knew the city had become dangerous. It had pained him from the bottom of his little heart, but it had to be done. And every week, he passed to Lamine and Alex, his money, earned during his 5 days, as well as an adorable letter, expressing how much he thought of his peers with a lot of affection and sadness at the same time. The raccoon and the african pouch rat had the mission, each week to bring back to Mr.Rabbit's family his package, which they brought without dragging on the country road, far away from the city. In general, they didn't hang around...just to get some sustenance or stop at a water well or river to cool off when it was hot and the wind wasn't blowing much. They had already come a long way, when the heat of the day and fatigue began to translate into pain in the bottom of their little feet. “I think we should stop,” Lamine said, sighing. Do you see that grove up there? It would be perfect for relaxing in the shade. -First! Much younger and energetic, despite his strong tuft of hair which kept him much warmer than his shorter-haired partner, Alex ran towards the tree... which did not further encourage the old rat, who dragged his pace ...the grove was at the top of a hill, after all... But as he was ahead, the young raccoon, looking at him from his high hill, laughed softly. -How slow he can be! He looked at the tree, then at the bush, imagining a little joke to play on his colleague: he quickly placed his hat on the ground, and ran his clawed hands through his hair, from which he pulled out a few tufts, without hurting himself and without forcing too much on your skin. From there, he placed them on the ground, and hid in the bush, before crouching, silent among its leaves. When Lamine arrived at the top, he was horrified to see tufts of his best friend's hair, and his hat that he always took with him everywhere. He called his name several times, sniffing the air, had there been a predator he had failed to sense? Alex, laughing silently, placed himself behind the tree, holding onto its bark so as not to fall, he was laughing so much from the inside. It was even funnier to watch from up there!
Commentary :   You guys also voted for the tree to be published so here it is. Decided to add a lil story to it, and characters of course. When skimming the characters you wanted to see more, I saw Shorui...who is waaay too big to fit on the picture. He's nearly the size of the tree !  Then Yama, Aeriielyl, Virgil and Linya...not quite their settings. So I decided to take Lamin from the list, and since he's never going anywhere without his partner...there you have them :)

In which Virgil has taken lessons on how to demand affection: Part Five, Logan.
Virgil Roman Patton Remus Janus
Logan had been aware of the ‘Demanding Affection Lessons’. Patton had consulted him before even suggesting them to Virgil, and Logan had agreed that they might be useful. Though to be honest, he’d thought at the time that the ultimate result of the lessons would be a closer relationship between Virgil and Patton, and perhaps Virgil would become more vocal about his needs and wants.
He hadn’t expected the nervous request that day in the kitchen. It had caught him off guard, and he’d asked Virgil to repeat himself, even though he had heard it the first time. He could hardly believe Virgil was requesting affection from him, and though he did indeed feel affectionately towards Virgil, his attempt to fulfill the request had been, even in his own eyes, paltry.
But even more he hadn’t expected the way that Virgil’s requests for affection would spread amongst the other sides. Roman, Patton, even Remus had come up to ask for affection.
As he always did when confronted with something he hadn’t anticipated, he began collecting data. Even before Remus, but especially now that he had joined, Logan could confirm that the effect of the requests for affection was nothing but positive. General moods had improved, relationships between them all had been significantly strengthened, collaborative efforts to tackle problems had increased massively, and perhaps most important, Thomas was happier.
It was a logical move for Logan to also request affection from the other sides. The benefits were clear.
However.
He did not want to subject himself to five hugs. And that would also likely not have the same benefits. He would need to ask for things he wanted. He was just concerned that if he did so, he would be rejected. His requests would take more time than a simple hug. The other sides were busy themselves, and didn’t want to take time out of their days to do him favors.
But he could see from his data the benefits that were possible. The possible improvements to Thomas’s life. Even the potential improvements to his own. How could he squander all of that by not asking?
— — —
Patton was the safest first option. Not only because he was most likely to say yes, but also because he frequently cooked.
“Patton?” Logan said, beginning to understand more Virgil’s hesitance in asking.
“Yeah?” Patton said, looking up from his craft with a smile.
Logan held out a paper on which he’d listed approximate measurements and times. “I… would like to request… for you to make me a toast with Crofters. To me i-it would be affection.” Despite his previous rehearsing in the mirror, he still didn’t manage to make it through the request without stumbling.
Patton looked at the paper curiously. “Oh. Oh, I get it! Of course I will, Lo!”
Relief swept over him more powerfully than Logan had anticipated, and he needed to sit down. “Thank you, Patton.”
Patton gave him one of those soft looks, like he did when he wanted to hug someone, but he didn’t hug Logan, just stood up, looking again at the paper. “I’ll be right back!”
That toast Patton returned with seemed like the best one Logan had ever eaten.
— — —
With a grown confidence, Logan knocked on Roman’s door.
“Come in!”
Logan entered and held out a paper to Roman. “I have a request.”
Roman frowned at the paper a minute. “Chores?”
“Not exactly,” Logan said, knowing he’d tailored this request exactly to Roman. He pulled out his flash card to be sure of the correct term. “Those are indeed chores that need doing, but my request if for you to ‘gamify’ them. It would be as a favor to me, as… as affection.”
Roman’s head cocked to the side, and he silently mouthed ‘affection?’. Similarly to Patton, the meaning seemed to hit him all at once. “Oh! Oh, well yeah. I can definitely do that. I can’t promise that my games will work, Thomas might still leave the things undone, but I can definitely make games for the chores.”
Logan smiled, something fizzy feeling welling up in his chest. “Thank you, Roman.”
Roman grinned. “Anytime, Specs.”
— — —
With Virgil, he could text. It was relieving, not to have to ask in person.
Logan: I have a favor to ask
Virgil: ?
Logan: Have you heard the term ‘body doubling’?
Virgil: yeah, I’ve come across it once or twice
Logan: Would you be willing to come into my room and engage in your own activities while I do my work? It would be received as a form of affection.
Virgil: pfft, you all are such copycats. But yeah, totally, I’ll be over in a minute.
Sure enough, there was a soft knock at the door a few minutes later, and Virgil came in with two cups of tea. “Pat said we need to be hydrated.”
Logan smiled and nodded.
Virgil set one of the cups on Logan’s desk, and then slid down the wall with his own just beyond the desk, setting the cup on the floor next to him and pulling out his phone.
Despite Virgil being the embodiment of anxiety, it felt like a peace settled over the room.
Logan: Thank you.
Virgil: no prob 💜
— — —
Remus would be… interesting to ask. But Logan wanted to ask him before he asked Janus. For one reason, if things went poorly, he had one side left with whom he expected them to go well. For another, Remus was easier to find. Janus’s job required a lot of hiding away and working in the deeper parts of Thomas’s mind, and while he could often be found in his room, it was by no means a guarantee.
Almost the moment he walked into the downstairs living room he heard a snort.
“What, Mr. No-Feelings came for hugs too?”
“No actually, I have a request for a different type of affection.”
Remus popped up from behind the couch, streaked with a… substance. “Oh?”
“There are a few subjects in which I am interested, apart from my role as Thomas’s Logic and Curiosity. I wanted to ask if you would be willing to help mold the imagination in such a way that I can pursue those interests.”
Remus shrugged. “I mean, I probably won’t make it exactly accurate, but I’m game for helping you out. Why’d you ask me though? Why not Goody-Two-Shoes upstairs?”
Logan smiled slightly. “I believe some of the subjects would be of interest to you as well.” He held out a paper to Remus.
Remus’s expression went from curious, to intrigued, to nearly gleeful. “Oh hell yeah! Come on, Nerdy Wolverine! We’re doing this Now!”
— — —
It was his third attempt. Logan knocked on the door to Janus’s room.
Rather than saying ‘come in’, Janus opened the door, looking rather haggard.
Logan blinked. If he’d intended to ask anything else, he would have immediately regretted his request.
“Yes?” Janus said, leaning against the doorframe.
“I had come to ask… You are well known to be skilled at self-care, I had wanted to join you. It would be received as affection, and, perhaps it might be good for you at the moment as well.”
Janus gave him a half-hearted glare. “I’m fine.” His face smoothed out. “But yes, that would be nice.”
Logan helped set up, glad for the both of them to be able to relax in a hot bath and have a few hours of rest and pampering.
“If you ever want,” Logan offered. “I would be open to returning favors and affection.”
Janus just hummed noncommittally. “I appreciate the offer.”
— — —
He was going to have to be blunt. And clear.
He rose up in the bedroom. “Thomas, I have something to ask you.”
Thomas startled. “Ah! Logan! Geez, you could give me a little warning.”
“Apologies,” Logan said, feeling slightly deflated. “But I do have something to ask.”
“Yeah, of course,” Thomas said, pushing himself up to a sitting position. “What’s up?”
Logan offered a paper to Thomas. “I am continuing the requests for affection, however affection towards me would look different than it would towards others sides. I would greatly appreciate it if you would choose one of these healthy habits and commit to pursuing it, put it on a schedule and act on it regularly.”
Thomas studied the list.
“Additionally, Roman has created games associated with each of these, to make it easier to remember and complete.”
“Wow, Logan, this is really well thought out,” Thomas said, still looking at the paper. “I mean, I’d definitely need your help to stick with it, but sure, I’ll pick one of these.”
A broad smile invaded Logan’s face. “Of course I will be helping.”

Going off the hiking prompt: Logan getting double dicked against a tree
Survivalist Hike
Warnings: 18+, pre-hyperthermia, d.a.p., mild sex-pollen, snake anatomy Janus
There has been a lot of stress in the Mindscape lately, projects in the works and deadlines to be met. Logan had taken the brunt of it all trying to keep the schedule and keep the others motivated while also planning for the coming weeks, he was relieved when they reached the weekend that Janus marked for self-care. He was burnt out and wanted some time away from the “office”, luckily Janus had suggested they go camping which Logan had been asking the other side to do for months now. You see Logan loved hiking and camping in the imagination where he could watch the wildlife and study them, it relaxed his mind while stimulating his body! He figured that Janus would also enjoy the outdoors since it was late spring and the weather would be accommodating to their other’s snake attributes. This is how they found themselves on a mountain in the imagination with an unexpected cold front rolling in bringing freezing rain and howling winds, having only one extra blanket in their tent.
“Uuggh one of the twins must have changed the forecast after we left, the bratssss!” Janus hisses, his breath just barely visible in the cold air. “We will speak with them when we return. Which I suggest we do soon since this temperature could become dangerous for your health.” Logan replies as he packs away his things, his fingers numbing the longer they are exposed to the cold. “But thissss was sssupposed to be your weekend, a time to relaxxx” the other pouted as he snuggled in the one blanket. Logan sighed but kept packing, sure he was disappointed but he wasn’t going to risk their health and safety for a trip that would just cause more stress. Better to go home and just go back to work.
“I know itsss not the same but we could ssspend the night in my greenhouse, it will be warm there and you can ssstudy the plantsss.” Janus suggests when he notices the resigned look in Logan’s eyes, he doesn’t add that his snakes also live there so the logical side will be surprised. A bit of light returns to Logan as he thinks about it, “Yes, that sounds like an acceptable second choice for our trip.” He reaches out to sink them out but the imagination pushes back, like stretched rubber bands they spring back to where they were. A few more tries prove just as fruitless, “they messsssssed with the sssettings! Stupid boysss!”
Getting out the map, one Roman gave him to fill out, Logan looked for the closest exit…it was miles away. He let out a deep sigh, there was no way either he or Janus could hike that long in these conditions after a long day of walking already under their figurative belts. There had to be some other way out or at least somewhere safer to wait until the storm passed, wait what was that symbol on the map across the river from them? “Janus, do you know what this symbol means? It’s not on the key.” The shivering snake looked down at the paper with a critical glare before his eyes widened and a giddy smile graced his face, “that is a love nest, Roman and Virgil come out here for their little sex retreats. It will be nice and warm, probably full of booze and firewood too! Logan it’s so close!” The embrace of the snake hybrid startled the logical side not only because it was unexpected but also because Janus’s skin was as cold as the rain outside, they needed to get to this “love nest” quickly. “Put on all the clothes we brought and use one of the sleeping bags as cover, I’ll carry the bags. We might get there before the sun sets and leaves us in the dark.”
They trek the dirt path and across the footbridge over the river to a strange looking tree, where the other trees were thin and tall, this one had a stout trunk and thick branches that turned up like a flute glass. With the dwindling light it took far longer for Logan to find the hidden entrance into the secret getaway, a knot on the trunk was a latch-knob that needed to be lifted to open. By then a sheet of ice was coating the ground and the sleeping bags they used as coats and Janus had stopped talking a few minutes ago, a troubling development. He tossed the bags to the side of the entrance and dragged the snake side into the shelter. He noted that Janus moved sluggishly and was beginning to take a blue tint on his human half, “T-takkke offff the w-w-wet c-clothes an-and shhhoes, gotta g-get you warmmm.” Logan chatters the instructions as he also strips off his wet shoes, socks, and pants.
Janus gets his shoes off no problem but Logan has to help him get the outermost pants and shirts off so they don’t soak his already freezing skin. Once he gets Janus on a plush seat with a dry blanket Logan staggers to the fireplace and throws on the logs stacked by the wall, thank goodness for magic since the logs replenish after a moment. His numb fingers fumble with the match but eventually he gets the fire going and starts looking for anything to help them heat back up safely, Janus especially needs to warm up without shocking his system. In the kitchen he finds a two burner stove and a kettle that he fills with water and sets on a burner to heat, there is some strange tea in a red box that smells sweet and fruity that they can drink. In a room upstairs there are plenty of dry clothes to change into while theirs are still wet. When he comes back down with sweatpants on and some more layers for Janus the water is ready for tea. Its fruity scent is even stronger as it steeps in the mugs, he’ll have to ask Roman for some when they return home.
“Janus, I know moving is uncomfortable but you need to drink something, please.” He coaxes the lethargic side to take the mug who immediately curls over the source of warmth. A good sign. Logan finds another blanket and to conserve heat sits next to Janus, it also lets him keep an eye on the other’s health as the night progresses. Silence is filled with sips and the popping crackles of the fire that has warmed the room considerably, it’s peaceful and as their mugs are drained the sides start to fall asleep leaning against each other.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
Way too soon for his taste later, Logan woke feeling better but also a little off. He figured it was just the fatigue and skipping dinner that made him feel “funny” but as his mind woke more he noticed that his companion was missing, “Jan? Where?” He looked around and saw that the blanket that was tucked around Janus earlier was now leading down the hall. Groggily he followed down the hall to find his missing companion and check on his health, the snake side needed to keep warm. So it was worrying to see discarded layers thrown haphazardly about as he neared the over the top bedroom. “Janus?” He calls out worriedly, “Here darling, closer.” Janus’s voice is huskier than normal and sends an ember of heat to his guts, it was a wonderful feeling that washed away the weirdness he woke with. He walked more into the bedroom, towards where he was sure he heard the other call to him, when he was shoved up against the bark-like wall.
Lips met his in searing kisses, hungry but experienced as they coaxed open his mouth to drag out sounds that Remus would approve of. A thigh nudged his legs apart to give Janus room to pin him in, three sets of hands tugging away at fabric to get to heated flesh, “So warm darling, you make me so warm. Want you, want to be in you.” Janus moans between kisses, and Logan wants that too, wants to chase this feeling and let Janus ruin him. “Yes, yes, I want you too!” He gasps as a set of arms lifts him up.
He hadn’t noticed when his boxers came off but the sensation of his dick rubbing against Janus’s own dicks made his head spin at how amazing it was. When a slick finger enters his hole he thinks he sees stars, Janus, please! Feels so good!” He cries as the other side adds another finger, “Soon darling. Don’t want to hurt you, my love.” And that hits Logan hard, Janus could use him right now and he’d thank him for it but the selfish side was being gentle, considering his needs too, it was far softer than he was used to when he was with the others. Before he can get too into his own head Janus adds a third finger, pumping and curling the digits to find that sweet spot.
Ahhh!
The musical sound that Logan makes when Janus hits his prostate breaks the resolve the snake side had, “I think you’re ready love, relax for me.” Janus bids as he lines up one of his dicks with Logan’s hole. He slides in and let’s the logical side sink down onto him slowly, “That’s it darling, there we go.” A beat later and Janus starts to rock up into Logan with one dick as the other still ruts against the other’s own. The night is filled with porn worthy moans and gasps of each other’s names, the buildup of heat between them steaming up the windows.
Logan can feel his climax nearing but he wants more, wants something else, “Janus, I can’t take both, give me both.” He pleads as Janus thrusts again, “Ok love, but you have to stop me if it hurts.” Janus agrees, he uses two sets of arms to lift Logan again and holds his dicks together to ease them in. It stretches him but it doesn’t hurt like he half expects so he only whines needily to get the other moving again. Janus just huffs fondly and sets back to his pace, rocking up in a rhythm of in and out, in and out, the squeeze of Logan’s hole heavenly hot and accommodating to the girth. “Feel so good in you Darling, so perfect. My perfect Logan.” He whispers as he speeds up a bit, listening to the other’s breath hitch at the compliment, he keeps calling Logan perfect and darling until he feels the logical side spill cum over both of their stomachs. He can feel his own release close behind so he takes the time to kiss as much of Logan as he can reach as he thrusts harder, when he cums his teeth sink into soft flesh and his vision whites out.
When Janus comes back into himself he finds that he and Logan are still connected and entangled together. The logical side is pushing back his sweaty bangs and looking at him with such reverence that it’s frightening at first. “Are you alright darling? I didn’t mean to break skin.” The bite was bleeding and once again Janus was glad he wasn’t venomous. “I’m fine, you don’t have to apologize for something I liked.” A blissful smiles graces Logan’s lips and Janus feels his face blush bright red, a strange twist since they had just fucked and now he was flustered.
They stayed there on the floor until the room temperature started to get noticeably cooler, retreating onto the bed and under the plush comforter. The next day came quickly and with much warmer weather, they spent most of the morning and afternoon lazing in bed where it was cozy. Hiking was forgotten in favor of repeating the events of the night before, several times. When they returned Sunday evening everyone commented on how relaxed Logan looked…if he and Janus decided to take more hiking trips no one made comment on it, except for the dwindling supply of Vitali-tea in the love nest, oops!

HI!!!! I found your reverse au and raided the tags and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! ❤️❤️✨✨
But me being me I am also one of creative writing and thoughts and my mine went to a hypothetical area of ANGST.
Imagine reverse Virgil is in charge of taking care of intrusive thought monster, like black puddles of just pure madness and grossness that Remus doesn’t mean to make or doesn’t want to use.
Like just black inky monsters that Remus refuses to use or write into his creations because I imagine him using a quill and ink to write his ideas out and the unwanted items become the only monsters.
Normally Virgil can handle them very well, he puts on his special suit (he doesn’t want ink on his hoodie), picks them up and gently places them in the trash with the others. But sometimes it’s too much to handle.
The monsters will fight back and destroy his clothes, sometimes they escape and cause havoc but Virgil is stubborn and determine no matter what. But he exhausts himself to the point where his breathing is raggedy and the others just hear raggedy squeaking coming from him.
Then he goes home, back to Janus and Remus to rest and relax. The others don’t see him for a week, at most, but more and more inky blobs show up because Roman and Remus keep arguing and getting worse which causes Remus to create more inky blobs for Virgil to take care of.
One day while hanging with Patton or Logan Virgil is just a tired soft but ends up blacking out. Neither knows what to do with a blacked out squeaky toy so they ask roman who just wants to stab him with his sword.
That’s when they see the smudged black ink on him and Roman thinks he got into his makeup which sparks a fight with Logan calling him stupid and stuff. Patton just watches Virgil breath and slightly squeak until he just plops him on the couch to sleep.
Janus comes looking for him, covered in ink but he only cares about his pastel child being ok. At this point ink is probably on Patton and Virgil and Janus sees it and he is just so tired and stressed he snaps at Patton for causing Virgil to be like this.
Patton tries to flirt his way out of it but Janus is just yelling and screaming and accusing this dead beat of a person of hurting his pastel child. Now Patton may be many things but he would never hurt the weird ass pastel cat child that squeaks. They yell and fight until Virgil wakes up and immediately drapes himself on Janus and falls asleep again.
Janus takes a deep breath and brings Virgil back home, leaving Patton and the others to reflect on what just happened.
End~
Take this how you will ig?? 😅
Tumblr media
my followers have all the best freakin ideas ever??? holy shit man this is very very cool
it's true that i think as the side that manages Thomas' optimism Virgil has to bare a lot of weight from his negative thinking (he's a strong boi) and would sometimes just get drained out of all energy, and damn in your scenario, everyone's bickering would just worsen it so much more
this is deadass so freaking dope, if it can be written into a fic i'd die happy right here and now, so thank you for sharing this with me xx

Realignment
Prompt: I love when Remus is a lot smarter than he lets on, so I’d love a prompt where Logan is overworking himself and not taking care of himself and one tic of the clock away from either passing out or having a full on mental breakdown (not the type you can recover from in a day). Remus notices the little signs Logan shows, and hears the intrusive thoughts Logan has. Remus really becomes concerned when Logan’s intrusive thoughts start to involve taking breaks, going to eat properly rather than inhaling granola bars, and even sleeping. Remus storms in and is like “Logan tf????” Then gets hella soft once he realizes the state Logan is in
Thank you for the prompts, babe! I liked this one the best so I picked it.
GUYS PLEASE VIEW THIS AS A C H E C K P O I N T if you've been scrolling for a while (and you probably have) pause here! drink water! get food! walk around the room for a little bit! stretch! do something please! you are very important to me and I care about you very deeply!

Remus hears a lot of weird shit.
The problem arises when the shit he starts to hear isn't weird at all.
Remus hears a lot of weird shit.
The more appropriate definition would be ‘fucked up like you wouldn’t fucking believe,’ but one of us has a problem with particularly strong language and shit doesn’t have to be censored in a lot of media anymore. Which is so convenient! For some of us!
 It’s fucking great.
Anyway. Point being. Fucked up shit.
Intrusive thoughts literally fall under his purview. It’s the fun stuff! The stuff you don’t wanna think about that makes your skin crawl and your eyes pop open at the witching hour and stay awake until the sun rises. That’s Remus’s job.
And it’s like the whole Mindscape is whack-a-mole that he gets to play with! Buttons here and there, squeeze this part and watch the eyes bug out of this part, bap this one on the head, see which one pokes up next. Who’s gonna have nightmares tonight? Who is having a nightmare tonight?
 It’s fun.
 Point. Right. Right.
It’s normally pretty easy to tell whose intrusive thoughts are whose. They taste different. Patton’s taste like sugar so sweet it’ll fill your mouth with cavities. Virgil’s taste like spiders, crawling around his mouth. Janus’s taste like salt. So much fucking salt. Dry as hell.
Roman’s taste like blood. Problem is, Remus’s mouth normally tastes like blood, so…
Yeah, they gotta work that out.
Logan’s taste like ink. Which is why it took him so long to figure out that Logan was having them. Not just because the nerdy wolverine was so convinced he couldn’t have them—rationalizing them as philosophy principles, come on—but because Remus isn’t exactly an expert on pens. Writing like normal people. Ugh.
 Normal people.
What a lie, Janny probably gets a big kick out of those.
No one is normal and normal is boring.
 Logan. Right.
 Okay, so here’s the thing.
Logan’s thoughts aren’t really…standard? They are to some extent, you don’t really get a whole lot of variety from him—even when Remus has been so helpful in making his room safe for him to be in during bad days, there’s such a lack of imagination there that he wasn’t sure exactly how to feel—but it’s the recent ones that’ve been getting…weird.
Remus chews thoughtfully on the kraken tentacle. He swings up to the chandelier and hangs by his ankles, letting the blood run to his head. Makes it easier to think sometimes.
It hasn’t been very long since they found out…well, since they found out.
Remus frowns. Why is he censoring himself? It’s not like he can’t fucking say self-harm, it’s not like he can’t describe what it was, it’s not like he can’t close his eyes and see it happening again.
Then his mind jumps helpfully to the shocked, panicked look on Logan’s face and the soft, furious resignation on Roman’s, and his jaw snaps shut.
 Oh.
 Right.
He cares. So he has to be gentle with them.
He growls, swinging himself up to perch on the chandelier proper. He turns the kraken tentacle over and chews on the rubbery side.
The others are delicate. Not that they’re more breakable than any other metaphysical humanoid, but their minds are fragile when it comes to Remus’s side of things. Could they handle the full spectrum of his side of thoughts and shit? Probably, they’re stronger than they give themselves credit for. Should they have to? Hell to the fuck no. But it means that Remus can’t just throw them in the deep end and see if the kraken spits them out whole or in chunks. Could they survive? Absolutely. Would they still be…them? Doubtful.
Remus lets one of his legs go, hanging by one knee as he tips over.
Plus they’re always a little more fragile when it comes to these thoughts anyway. Poking and prodding too much would hurt. Like, the bad kind of hurt.
They’re not supposed to get hurt. Not like that.
 So. Gentle it is then.
Right. The others. He has a point, he’s just gotta get there.
Roman…fuck he’s missed his brother. They got—they got so much shit to still work out but they’re gonna do it together and fuck he loves his brother so goddamn much. Roman knows that, he knows that, and he’s always there to pull Remus out of his head when he needs it, hit him with a pillow, or tackle him onto something and hold him tight. He’s—his thoughts taste like blood and Remus hasn’t bitten anything since so that he’ll never miss it again.
 But with Logan...
Logan is…odd. It hasn’t been long since they first found out—or rather, they confronted him about it, and Remus hasn’t tasted ink without it disappearing very quickly or knocking on someone’s door to please go get your fucking nerd, please. But the ink has only written the usual suspects, whispering the theorems in dark corners, muttering about the incompleteness of a set, the need for Logic, not Logan, and how to jump through the little loophole again.
It’s not exactly hard for the others to tell.
Lolo hasn’t been looking great. Sure, he’s all pressed and dressed, glasses perfectly in place, tie done up just so, walking around like everything’s just totally and completely fine, but it’s in his face. Object impermanence aside, normally when Remus bugs him, he reacts in some way.
Sass is an emotional response and you won’t convince him otherwise.
Whether it be a wry comment, effortlessly fixing whatever Remus has done to him this time, or even just a look, Lolo does something.
 Not anymore.
Now he’ll just kind of…sigh and move on? He’ll fix whatever it is only if it’s directly interfering with what he’s trying to do, or when Patton or Virgil come round the corner and freak the fuck out because you’re bleeding! Then he’ll fix it.
Remus wouldn’t say he’s bored, but he’s worried.
Mainly because the intrusive thoughts…aren’t what he’d consider intrusive anymore.
 Take a shower.
Eat something that isn’t just a granola bar.
 Go to sleep.
 Ask someone for help.
 See?
If those are Lolo’s intrusive thoughts, then what the fuck is normally going on in his head?
 Remus waits. Waits. Keeps waiting.
The instant his mouth tastes like ink again, with a question of whether or not Logan should take a break, he sinks straight into his shower. He washes his hair thoroughly, gets every single bit of grime off him he can, and puts on the softest pajamas he has—thank you, Roman—and drops himself outside of Logan’s door.
He strains, mouth still full of ink, to hear anything other than the soft click, click, click of Logan’s keyboard.
 He can’t.
 Fuck.
 He knocks.
 “One moment, please.”
Indeed, a few seconds later, the door opens to reveal Logan, looking as annoyingly pristine as he always does, surprised to see him.
“Remus? Did you need something? Why…” he trails off as he takes in what Remus is wearing. “What’s wrong?”
 “Can I come in?”
“Of—of course,” Logan stammers, moving aside to let him in, “are you alright?”
“Should be asking you that, Lolo.”
“Remus, you’ve just knocked, first of all, on my door and asked to come inside.” Logan adjusts his glasses as he sits at his desk. “This is extremely out of character for you.”
“Uh-huh.” Remus flops onto the bed. “You know what else is out of character?”
 “Not wearing your costume?”
 “Not hearing intrusive thoughts.”
Logan’s eyes widen. “Has—is there something wrong? Are you not hearing any? Do I need to get Roman?”
Remus frowns. “Why’s it so easy for you to do that?”
 “Do what?”
“Care. Try and take care of me.”
Logan blinks. “Because you deserve to be taken care of, Remus. Your needs are important.”
Remus idly toys with a loose thread on one sleeve. “Why?”
“Why? Why are you important?” Remus nods. “Because you’re—you’re an important part of Thomas, you’re important to us, and we care about you.”
“So it’s easy for you to care for me because…you do?”
“As simple as that sounds,” Logan says with all the softness that should be directed at himself, “yes.”
Remus nods. “I’m not having problems with hearing intrusive thoughts.”
“You’re—you’re not?” Logan sighs, relaxing a little back into his chair. “Then why did you say you were?”
“Because the thoughts that I am hearing aren’t really what I’d consider intrusive.”
 Logan frowns. “Like what?”
 Glad you fucking asked.
“‘Take a shower,’” Remus says, his eyes fixed firmly on Logan’s face, “'eat something,’ ‘take a break,’ ‘go to sleep.’”
 He watches Logan’s face tense.
 “Sound familiar, Lolo?”
“You—I—my apologies,” Logan manages after a moment, adjusting his tie, “I did not mean to be an inconvenience. You are correct, those are not intrusive thoughts, I’m not sure why you’re hearing them.”
He turns to his desk and begins to fish around for a notebook.
“That is quite intriguing, I wonder what the possibilities for hearing other types of thoughts are, considering—“
 “Lolo.”
 Logan pauses, turning back. “Yes?”
Remus fixes him with a look, getting up and walking toward him. “They are intrusive thoughts, Logan. The issue is that your intrusive thoughts are about you taking care of yourself.”
 Logan freezes.
“W-well, I’m sure that it’s nothing to be concerned about.”
“So either you can admit that was a lie or Janny’s about to get summoned.”
“Remus,” Logan sighs, “it’s fine. As you said, these aren’t what are traditionally considered intrusive thoughts, it’s nothing to be concerned about.”
“No, Lolo, it is,” Remus argues, “because it means that the thought of you taking care of yourself is so foreign, so fucking out of the ordinary that not only does it happen to cross your mind—“ he takes Logan’s chair and spins it around— “but you try to force it out.”
 Gotcha.
Logan looks anywhere other than Remus’s face and tries to stand. Only to wobble and crash back down.
“Easy,” Remus says quietly, resting a hand on his shoulder, “you haven’t eaten in a while.”
 “But I have work.”
 “But you need food.”
 “Remus—“
 “Logan.”
At Logan’s honest-to-fuck pout, he sighs, dragging the poor nerd up and out the chair and sitting him on the bed.
“Why do you think you don’t deserve to be taken care of?”
“I didn’t say that—hey!” Logan blinks up at him, scandalized and covering his stomach. “Why did you poke me?”
“’S what I do when Janny won’t tell me the truth.”
“I wasn’t—okay, okay!” Logan covers his stomach protectively as Remus readies another poke. “I just…I’ve already asked for help for this before. I shouldn’t have to again.”
Remus sighs and lightly flicks the side of his head.
 “Hey!”
“Virgil tries that too.” He stares hard at Logan. “Come on, Lolo, you can do better.”
“It’s not your jobs to take care of me.”
 For fuck’s sake…
Remus reaches out and tugs gently on Logan’s tie.
 “Remus, what—“
“You taking more books outta Patton’s library now?” Remus tilts his head. “You don’t have to beat around the bush, Lolo, just be honest.”
 “I am being honest!”
“You’re not lying, but you’re not being honest.” At the poor nerd’s confusion, he sighs and fixes his glasses on that cute nose. “Just talk to me, Lolo.”
“I—“ Logan sighs and oh fuck why does he look so tired?
Well, because he hasn’t been sleeping.
 Or eating.
 Or taking care of himself.
Unbidden, part of his conversation with Roman flashes into his head.
 “Self-harm can be self-denial too.”
 “Lolo?”
“It’s bad enough that I’ve made you all worry about me,” Logan says finally, “I would hate to be a burden.”
Oh, Lolo. “You and Roman, huh?”
Logan looks up warily. “What do you do with Roman?”
 “You know what I do.”
Logan sighs. “May at least take my glasses off first?”
“You might wanna change too, I’m not letting you up for a while.”
Logan stretches to place his glasses on the nightstand and poofs himself into a t-shirt and boxers. He sighs and opens his arms.
Remus takes two running steps and tackles the poor nerd onto his bed.
 “Ah!”
 “Am I hurting you?”
“No, no, just—just a little startled.”
“Mm.” Remus snuggles closer into Logan, his arms wrapped tightly around him. “So. Wanna try one more time?”
Logan sighs, deflating them both to the bed. His head lolls to his left, eyes on his open computer screen. Remus follows it, barely suppressing a growl as he stretches his arm out to save whatever’s on screen and shut it.
“I know what I’m supposed to be doing,” Logan whispers, “I understand the process, I am aware that healing is not a linear concept, I know it’s going to take time, I—I understand.”
Remus looks down, giving him an encouraging squeeze. “But?”
“It’s hard,” comes the soft confession.
 Oh, Lolo.
“I know,” he murmurs, leaning down to hug him properly, “I know, Lolo, I know it’s hard. But you can’t try and do it all yourself, you’ve gotta remember that we’re here for you, we care about you.”
 “But why?”
Remus smiles and cuddles him tighter. “You said it yourself, Lolo. We care because we do.”
“O-oh.” He feels Logan’s throat work as he swallows. “Thank you, Remus.”
“Of course, Lolo. I’m guessing that sinking us to the living room so everyone else can spoil you is a bad idea, right?”
“Yes.” Finally, finally, he feels Logan shyly tighten his grip on him. “Can we just…stay like this?”
“Do I have your permission to hold you hostage until you fall asleep?”
 “Yes.”
“Then go to sleep, Lolo,” Remus murmurs, “I’m not going anywhere.”

What to Do?: Chapter 3
One, Two, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten
Summary: Logan realizing that his first mistake was seeing the other sides as anything other than coworkers. They weren't a family. They didn't even like each other. How had he not realized sooner?
Warmings: General Angst and Food Mention.
Word Count: 1,820
The smells of cooking food permeated the kitchen as Virgil nervously slunk into the kitchen, his eyes darted around, catching a glimpse of Roman’s foot tapping up and down as he bounced his leg. He could feel the anxiety pouring out of the creative side like a faucet about to overflow a sink, and ordinarily he would have snapped at Roman to reign it in with the last thing he wanted to deal with was yet another person’s anxieties… but not this time. This time he could understand Roman’s fears, as they aligned with much of his own.
Moving over to the dining table, he perched himself on top, giving Roman more occasional glances.
“Are you okay?” He mumbled, detesting the way that he felt himself softening at the heartbroken expression on Roman’s face. He had cared for sure… but he also hated the fact that he cared so much for this, if he had cared less then all of this would have hurt much less than it currently was. “How’s Pat?”
Virgil felt his heart sink into his stomach at the sight of Roman’s expression breaking apart even further.
He hated this so much.
Roughly Roman ran his hand over his face, as if he was attempting to wipe away tears before they could even be seen. “I’m… not okay.” He honestly said, and looking towards the kitchen he couldn’t help but to add on. “And I don’t think Patton’s much better, I think he was crying all night...” A part of him couldn’t help but to be resentful towards Logan for all of this, but another part of him… the part of him that he was desperately trying to squish down before it could rise back up… actually felt oddly proud of Logan for doing this.
It felt… right, almost.
But it didn’t make it hurt any less, the distance that Logan was obviously trying to put between all of them. He had thought that they were closer than that, but then again… He wasn’t all that certain that he had even been acting like a friend lately, sure he had been focused on getting Thomas with the man of his dreams, and sure he had been neglecting the others a little. But he was certain that Logan would’ve been fine on his own for a little while, it was the entire reason that he had given Logan access to the imagination to begin with. So that if he needed to blow off some steam, or just relax he could easily do so without him needing to be there to make him relax.
But…
He’d been wrong.
Again.
Virgil huffed, dragging Roman’s attention away from himself and back to the anxious side sitting beside him. He looked… well honestly he looked okay-ish. There were tiny tell-tale signs that Virgil hadn’t slept as well as he was trying to portray, the caked on eyeshadow covering up dark circles and the even more caked on foundation was something that Roman could almost too easily see through. But he didn’t look like he’d be swept away, not like Patton did. And he didn’t look like he was about to break apart into a million pieces, at least not like Roman did. Virgil looked… weary but strong, like an old piece of rebar poking out of concrete that refused to be weathered down by anything.
Roman felt more than a little jealous of Virgil's strength, or maybe it was just his denial that he wished he could fall back into...
Either way, he could only sit silently as Patton came into the dining room sniffling as he carried the plates of food for them to eat. It was almost painful to watch him consider and then reconsider putting a plate out for Logan, just to immediately go back into the kitchen and grab a plate for the logical side even though he had yet to show up.
“Just in case…” Patton softly mumbled, putting the plate down so carefully that one might have thought that it would break at the softest breeze. “You never know…”
They didn’t know, there was no telling if Logan would even want to eat with them. They hadn’t heard anything from him since he’d sunk out, and they’d heard even less from him that night. When Virgil usually heard Logan going crazy on his various projects during the night, now he heard absolutely nothing. He had no idea if Logan had merely just gone to bed early, or if he just… wasn’t in his room at all.
For a long moment, they all sat there. Their plates filled with the food that Patton had prepared for them, with one empty seat at the end of the table. And for that moment they sat there not touching a single thing on their plates, unsure if they should actually eat or not.
Roman had picked up his fork, but just half-heartedly poked at his food. While Patton just morosely looked back at his food, a self-pitying look on his face as his hands laid limpy on the table not making a single movement to begin eating. Virgil taking one look around at the two sides he stuck with, only sighed wanting to do something to break the uneasy tension in everyone but not having nearly enough gusto to do so. That was something that would require energy from him, and that alone was something that he really didn’t have enough of right now. So he resigned himself to sit in silence, and to eat a meal that he wasn’t even sure that he wanted anymore.
When he heard the footsteps.
Patton’s head snapped up so fast Virgil was sure that he heard something crack, and a hopeful look blossomed across the moral side’s face. Like a flower seeing the light of the sun for the first time, a light flourished in his eyes that almost instinctively made Virgil want to look away or to playfully curl his lip at how damn happy Patton looked in that moment as Logan came down the stairs his eyes fixed onto a book he was reading. Maybe everything would be okay, if Logan was still willing to eat with them, then perhaps they could slowly fix things over with him. Perhaps all wasn’t lost, and-
And just like that the look of happiness was gone from Patton’s face.
Logan had… Brought his own food.
With no more than a second of hope being dashed from them, the uneasy silence was back. Only this time, with Logan finally sitting amongst them, they all finally began to eat.
The moment seemed to stretch on, even though they all knew that it really hadn’t been that long to begin with.
Logan hasn’t looked at them once, as he took quick bites from his sandwich while his eyes remained glued to the pages of his book. Every now and then, his phone buzzes and then and only then does Logan look away from his book, shifting his attention to his phone for short bursts of time. It was a timer, that much Virgil could glean from the screen of his phone reflected in Logan’s glasses, much more than that… it was a reminder set to go off every ten minutes for thirty minutes. Like.. like he was nothing more than some person at work who had a thirty minute break in between doing his work.
Virgil had felt awfully betrayed when that realization had finally smacked him across the face, to the point where he was honestly unsure if he wanted to even tell the Roman or Patton. The both of them were taking Logan’s new… whatever this was, pretty hard. While he may have been annoyed with both Patton and Roman in the past, it truthfully hurt him an awful lot to see Patton crying as much as he was, and to see Roman blaming himself the way that he was. A part of him wanted to tell them that it wasn’t their fault, but he knew that they wouldn’t accept it. Not with Logan the way he was now, and especially with no end in sight.
It certainly seemed like this was going to carry on for some time, and how long… Virgil didn’t know.
He didn’t want to consider that this could possibly go on forever.
Tearing his eyes away from Logan, he tried to drown himself in the food that he had on his plate. But even then, with the empty space that seemed to be Logan, the food felt like tasteless mush in his mouth. He could only stand a few more bites, before the texture of it forced him to put his fork down, calling it quits for this meal at least.
Looking up he could see Patton and Roman glancing at one another, desperately trying to convey who exactly should try to talk to Logan while he was still here. But their useless glances, and suggested shoulder shrugs did less than nothing.
It was almost painful to watch.
It only became that much more painful as Logan stood up, clapping his book closed before dusting himself free from invisible crumbs. Not a single glance was given to them as Patton and Roman each tried to convey with their eyes who should be the one to talk to Logan, and as he took a quick glance to his watch Roman had opened his mouth.
Looking at Logan’s face, and the professional detachment on it, Roman found himself faltering. There were no words to be had from him, or at least none that he could think that would help this problem in any kind of way.
Logan sank down, without a word back to them and Roman’s mouth snapped shut.
There wasn’t any anger to be thrown at him though, Patton himself felt largely the same way. What could he say? What could he do that would make Logan reconsider, let alone begin to trust them again? He could hardly even ask for such a thing, he’d hurt all of them more times than he cared to admit in the past couple of weeks. And whether he liked it or not, he had done something to obliterate Logan’s trust and his love for him. To the point where he couldn’t call Logan his own name to his face, he could only do so personally in his own head as if that would get the relationship they once had back.
Perhaps he didn’t deserve it…
But it didn’t make him, or any of them any less concerned for Logan.
Patton’s mouth felt as dry as the sand on a beach, “I…” He paused, as his heart squeezed painfully in his chest. “I don’t know what I can do to fix this…” He sorrowfully whispered, “I’m sorry…”
Neither Virgil nor Roman could say anything in return.
They didn’t know how to fix it either.

An a/b/o idea thats taken over the brain that I wish to write:
Intruxietlogical A/B/O au that's set in a manor or smth?
Theres Alpha!Logan(cismale), head of the manor and a very rich yet young and respectable individual of the city. Hes like 6'4 and handsome as hell, and secretly knows it(due to Remus's persistent courting) but sees no point in personally flaunting it, letting Remus take the lead in that.
Then theres his eccentric Omega spouse, Remus(nonbinary leaning with he/him pronouns), the (in)famous artist of the city. Hes unusually tall for an Omega at 5'10, crude and unworried about fitting the 'normal' societal omega expectation despite also being born to a rich family. He courted Logan, persistantly, as he loved the fact that Logan treated him with the same respect as he would anyone else and never judged Remus for who he was, and the more Logan accepted the courting the more they fell in love before marrying and bonding at like. 23-25?
Well, Virgil is a 5'1 omega(transman with he/him pronouns), age 24. Hes a feisty little thing thats been surviving the streets for too long, he's parentless and, his high anxiety keeps him safer than most omegas on their own but no ones perfect- he ends up almost getting abducted by a sketchy Alpha when a Beta named Patton storms in and saves him.
That's how Patton, Logan's brother, takes him in to treat the sprained wrist he got from the encounter, and for Remus to set eyes on Virgil and immediately decide he wants to keep and court him, too.
I could ramble alot about the months it takes for remus to flirt and fluster and break Virgil out of his shy terrified shell(because hes gone from interacting with fellow street raccoons to very weathy and very Pretty nobility and its. A Lot.
I could ramble about the way both Remus and Logan coax Virgil into staying in their home for more and more ludicrously simple reasons, just to keep courting him, and how Virgil catches on, and flusteredly does nothing to stop it bc he's slowly falling in love too
But what I Really wanna ramble about, is their bedroom dynamics.
Content warning for under the cut: a/b/o dynamics, talk/descriptions of knotting, polyamourus relationships, kinks. Lots of kinks: oralfixation, dom/sub/switch dynamics, praise kink, overstim(lots of overstim), talk of double penatration, p in v sex, ect. Let me know if i missed anything!
MINORS DNI or you will be fully blocked from this blog and my main one.
Logan is a soft but firm dom, always in control and ready to take control. He has a bit of an oral fixation and loves sucking off his loves as often as he can, happy to sate his loves while getting them to soak themselves in fresh slick. He's easily comanding when needed but also enjoys that Remus is more than willing to take control on occasion(see: regularly). He just really really likes taking care of his loves however he can, and aftercare is super important especially after some of their more intense scenes
Remus is a bossy switch, who Loves riding Logan's cock till hes stuck on his knot, or getting fucked up against a wall till his mind turns to jelly. Really likes a bit of primal play, loves riling Logan up with praising how good Logan could breed him(even tho theyre all on birth control so it really is just for the scenes) if he just pins him down and takes. On the flip side, Re also loves pinning Virgil down and driving him crazy, too.
Virgil is a near complete submissive, he's eagar to give and take as ordered and melts at any praise given. Starting out he'd been touch straved beyond belief(which has since been remedied thoroughly) and thus ended up developing a habit of dropping into subspace the moment Logan and/or Remus cradle his neck with both hands. Hes a very affectionate sub who puts so much of his trust and control into Logan and Remus's hands, and both cherish it as Virgil literally never lets his guard down around anyone else.
So, my favorite thing about their dynamic is that Remus still has a decent sized cock despite being an omega, like is actually rather big for Virgil to take, the draw back is just that Remus cant, at least naturally, Knot Virgil like Logan can. (However, its like one of Remus's biggest fantasies to Knot Virgil, and Virgil is totally in the same boat and would be Very on board with it)
This lack of natural knot doesnt stop Remus of course, infact its encouraging because he has a nearly non-existant refractory period so, literally imagine:
Virgil on his back, Virgil's head and shoulders are cradled lovingly in Logan's lap as the alpha occassionally trades kisses with both of his gorgeous omegas. Virgil's legs spread and cunt gently held nice and open by Logan's gentle but firm hands as Remus repeatedly sinks his cock nice and deep into Virgil. Slick soaks Virge and Remus's thighs, his cunt, and Remus's cock.
Every thrust has Virgil whimpering and his legs twitching with the relentless feeling of the head of Remus's cock just barley rutting against his cervix on every other pass. Just the hot way Remus has Virgil pinned into a mating press and obviously working hard to make that position live up to its name, babbling at how good Virgil feels taking his cock like a good little omega, at how easy it is to breed Virgil over and over and over again.
Then Logan enacts this little idea hes been holding onto the moment Remus starts to get close(hes trained Remus well, having helped him train to stall his orgasms for longer and longer because Remus LOVES overstimmulation). He has Remus slow down for just a moment, causing both omegas to whine, before coating two fingers in plenty of slick and slowly pressing them in alongside Remus's cock.
Virgil is slowly losing his mind(as they find out in later sessions that he absolutely has a size kink, and would happily take both their cocks at once any time hes given the chance) at the width, his eyes rolling. Then Remus is told to start thrusting again until he comes, and to ignore Logan's two fingers outside of being careful.
Virgil and Remus are so keyed up that it only takes another minute or so for Remus to start cumming, following Logan's order of pressing all the way inside as deep as he can get, at which point is Logan's cue to start curling his fingers firmly deep inside of Virgils walls.
Immediately, Virgil starts whimpering loudly as he cums, his body reacting the way it would if he were being knotted by an alpha, cunt clenching tight and sucking Remus's cock deeper as his eyes squeeze closed and his jaw fall lax, overwhelmed as his body draws out his orgasm for as long as hes knotted.
Remus is put in a mind-melting world of pleasurable overstimmulation as hes just climaxed and Virgils cunt is milking it for all hes got and he cant even move or pull out now because hes 'locked' inside. His hips and legs are trembling and he's moaning loudly because it's so hot that hes basically getting to Knot Virgil and it feels so good.
Virgil's cunt won't let him go and wont stop pulsing around the head his oversensitive cock and he really cant be faulted for the way he loses control and just keeps orgasming, his lack of refractory period as a keyed up omega just letting him squirt more and more cum and slick deep into the omega under him.
Logan's gentle and soothing, cooing reassurances to his two loves as he helps them lose their minds & fulfil their fantasies. He even uses his free hand to stroke Virgils little cock slowly, drawing out shaking whines from both of them as it makes Virgil clench harder in intervals. Remus ends up hunched over Virgil, his face tucked into his fellow omega's neck to muffle his overstimulated whimpers.
Logan draws it out for a minute or two, just until pleasured and overwhelmed tears picks at their eyes and their soft begging whimpers and mewls fill the room before slowly releasing the hold, letting the string of tension snap and watching them unravel and relax, finishing their peaks.
Remus cant help the way he struggles to pull out, so oversensitive that his hips keep hitching back in place with the way Virgils body tries to keep him there, needing Logan to pull their hips apart to fully end the scene.
Logan strokes and comforts both exhausted omegas, now fully in his element, cooing soft reassurances to both, getting up to start a bath and carefully guiding them both in and cleaning them up. The sheets are changed and both are put in soft clothing and given juice and cuddles.
Remus would probably make a comment on asking drowsily just how Logan deals with being knotted to him for in upwards of 30 minutes if it feels like /That/ the whole time. Logan would probably just smile sweetly and press a sweet kiss to his lips and say "with experience of course, perhaps we can work on that too, if the both of you would be so inclined?"
Virgil shutters and whines, too tired to get worked up again, Remus in a similar boat but nodding drowsily anyway. Remus probably wakes up sore and gets worked up all over again at the memory of why his cock of all things is sore and sensetive.
Perhaps they do work on it, perhaps Remus is trained to a take it little longer each time, no where near half an hour for the longest time, but he gets pretty close and much better at holding from losing his mind.
Maybe then they explore what it feels like for Remus to be stuck on Logan's knot, while Virgil is stuck on Remus's 'knot' with the help of a toy. Maybe then they also explore working Virgil up to take both of their cocks, and see what happens what Logan's fingers curl just right to trigger that knotted feeling to have Virgil lose his goddamn mind impaled on both their cocks as they slowly thrust in and out despite his body thinking he's already been knotted and reacting as such.
Maybe they even explore working Virgil's other hole open, just enough to take Logan's knot, and give Remus free reign to fuck Virgil's soaking trembling cunt until they can coax Virgil's cunt into taking Remus's 'knot' as well
Idk man. Just. This whole dynamic has so many hot possibilities. 💕💕💕

Stay Instead
Ships: Logince, almost Roceit
Summary: After Logan had enough and moved to the “dark” side, Roman is devastated and can’t do anything but miss him. Then finally as he’s starting to move on, a special someone pays him a visit.
Word Count: 2,506
Warnings: Yelling, Roman gets very angry
~
It was a regular night, and Roman hated that. He hated that Logan being gone and Janus being there was suddenly normal. He hated seeing Janus sitting in Logan’s spot on the couch like it had been his all along. Roman sat at the other end of the couch, his constant glaring going unnoticed by its target. Virgil sat closest to Roman, but a bit of space stayed between them. He laid sideways with his legs bent. He was listening to music on his headphones while scrolling on his phone. After Virgil sat Patton, who worked on a cross-stitching project he’d started a while ago, but never got around to finishing. Logan usually read a book, but Janus read magazines. Logan held his books in one hand, his elbow resting on the arm of the couch. Janus usually held the magazine up in front of his face, but today he had it in his lap. Roman scoffed. He was going to get a cramp in his neck. He opened his mouth to tell him that in an all but helpful tone but froze when he realized something else was slightly different about Janus.
He was wearing glasses. Glasses that looked just like Logan’s.
Roman filled with rage and sadness as the sight tugged at his already aching heart. Tears threatened to spill, and his mouth curled into a scowl, his brows knitted together. He stood up, grabbing Virgil’s attention.
“Ro? What are you doing?” he asked.
“You can’t replace him! You’ll never replace him!” Roman shouted, ignoring Virgil and gaining the attention of the other two. He launched himself at Janus, snatching his glasses off his face and holding them tightly to his chest, tears streaming down his cheeks. “You’re not him! You can’t pretend to be him!” He sunk onto his knees.
“Roman!” Patton scolded, standing up. Janus held up his hand to Patton and looked at Roman as he continued to mumble weak insults about how Janus could never be like Logan. Patton hesitantly sat back, watching Janus and Roman closely.
“Roman, would you like me to sit in a different spot?” he asked, his voice gentle. Roman was familiar with Janus’s smooth tone. It was what he used when manipulating him. But this tone sounded different. It sounded genuine, though Roman was still hesitant to believe it actually was. He hiccuped and nodded nonetheless. Janus stood up, then kneeled down in front of the sobbing prince. Roman clutched Janus’s glasses tighter to his chest, keeping his eyes squeezed shut. Janus took off his glove and brought a hand up to his cheek. When Roman felt Janus’s skin against his cheek, he opened his eyes, letting the darkness give way to Janus’s warm smile. “Would it be okay if I sat next to you instead?” Roman hesitated before nodding again.
Janus slowly stood up, his hand leaving Roman’s cheek. Roman immediately missed his touch, which he didn’t expect. But Janus kept his hand held out. Roman looked at it unsurely. He reluctantly let go of the glasses with one hand and took Janus’s, letting him pull him up. Roman looked at the glasses in his other hand and held them out to Janus.
“I’m sorry,” he whimpered.
“I can’t say it’s okay, but I understand, and I forgive you,” Janus told him softly, then smirked. “Besides, I deserved it a little bit.” Roman giggled and wiped the tears off his cheek with his sleeve. “Also, if the glasses upset you that much, I won’t wear them. I can fashion up another pair that look less like… his.”
“Thank you,” Roman said. Janus nodded and led Roman back over to the other side of the couch, sitting down first to allow Roman to decide how much distance he wanted between them. Roman chose none, sitting right next to Janus and leaning into his side. Janus happily welcomed this, putting his arm around Roman. The prince closed his eyes and finally relaxed for the first time since Logan had left.
Patton smiled proudly and gratefully at Janus, who returned one as well. Virgil rolled his eyes but couldn’t hold back a small grin of his own as he turned back to his phone. Logan, on the other hand, wasn’t smiling. His face remained neutral as he watched from the shadows. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply to keep himself calm as he sunk out back into the dark side of the mind.
“I want to start tonight,” he said as he rose up in the dark side living room. Remus stopped shaking salt and pepper into each eye and looked at him.
“But I’m in the middle of an experiment,” Remus whined. Logan glanced at him and sighed.
“I already told you, Remus. Both salt and pepper will irritate your eyes,” Logan said. “And this setup is a disaster anyway. If you want proper results you’d need to have a equal amount of salt and pepper, but you’re barely even estimating it. It won’t yield proper results.”
“Fine,” Remus groaned, setting down the salt and pepper shaker, then standing up and waving Logan over. “Let’s get to the imagination.”
~ one week later ~
“Goodnight, Janus,” Roman said as they stood in front of Roman’s door, staring into each other’s eyes. “Thanks for sitting with me again. You make me feel a lot less lonely.” Janus smiled down at him lovingly.
“I’d do anything to make up for before, my prince,” he said his eyes briefly flickering to Roman’s lips. “Just don’t ask me to give you the most beautiful thing in the world because I don’t know how to give you to yourself.” He put a hand to Roman’s cheek, holding it gently. Roman giggled softly, a blush sprinkling his face.
“You’re so sweet,” Roman said, stepping closer. “Let me thank you.” Janus nodded, and Roman grabbed his face, stood up on his tiptoes and leaned in to kiss him. Janus’s heart sped up, fluttering as Roman got closer. He let his eyes fall closed and waited for their lips to meet.
“Roman.”
Roman froze in place, his eyes shooting open when he heard that familiar voice he’d been missing so much. He let go of Janus’s face, much to Janus’s dismay, and spun around to face the source, almost letting out a sob when he saw Logan standing behind him. Janus scowled.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice seething with almost disgust for the former light side.
“I came to speak with Roman,” Logan said, his eyes flickering between Roman and Janus. “Alone.” Roman looked back at Janus pleadingly. Janus scoffed but walked off anyway.
“Logan,” Roman breathed once they were alone in the hallway. He stepped closer and placed his hands on Logan’s chest, partially afraid his hands might go right through him and he’d find it was only an illusion. “Oh my god. It’s really you.” He laughed. “It’s you!” Logan froze when Roman flung his arms around him.
“Roman, I… there’s something I want you to see,” Logan said stiffly. Roman stepped back.
“What is it?” he asked. Logan bit his lip and hesitantly grabbed Roman’s hand, then let go again uncertainly.
“M-may I?” he asked. Roman nodded, holding his hand out to Logan. Logan took it again, feeling Roman’s slim delicate fingers, perfect for creating intricate crafts as Roman often did, rest against his palm and holding Roman’s hand with his own thicker, rougher fingers that hadn’t seen as many lotions and creams as Roman’s had. With his other hand, Logan turned Roman’s doorknob.
“Where are we going?” Roman ask with a raised brow as Logan pulled him into his own room.
“The imagination,” Logan answered, opening Roman’s portal and stepping inside. Roman followed curiously, still gripping Logan’s hand tight. “Look, I never know how to say this, so I’m going to show you instead.”
“Show me what?” Roman asked, then gasped softly as they came upon a candle-lit table under a pink canopy surrounded by rose bushes. Remus stood beside it with a proud smile, gesturing at it with his hands. He then bowed and slowly walked backwards away from it. “What is this?”
“I asked Remus to help me create it,” Logan said. “But it was my idea.”
“It’s lovely,” Roman said, continuing towards it. He knelt beside one of the rose bushes and admired its flowers. While he was looking away, Remus snuck back in beside Logan and changed his clothing to a dark blue suit, which Logan hadn’t expected. Before he could comment on it, Remus rushed over to his brother and sneakily changed his clothing to a cute red dress that he knew Roman liked.
He didn’t even notice the change until he stood up and felt a slight breeze against his bare legs. He looked down and his eyes widened, but his surprised expression quickly melted into a smile and he spun around, the skirt of his dress twirling around him.
He looked up at Logan, his face heating up at the sight of Logan in his suit. He was so used to Logan being a nerdy mess all of the time, seeing him so together like this was… different. But a good different!
“You look very handsome,” Roman said, suddenly not so proud of his own outfit, doubting he looked as good in it as Logan did in his. Logan walked up to Roman and immediately smothered those doubts.
“You look… incredible,” he said in a soft tone of almost disbelief. “Gorgeous, I mean! No, amazing!” He laughed. “I can’t decide which word fits you best.” Roman giggled, his face heating up even more. Not just from the compliment. Hearing Logan laughed so freely made his heart flutter. He rarely heard it before and it was so beautiful.
“Thank you,” he said. “For all of this. It’s wonderful.”
“Don’t thank me yet. The evening has just begun,” Logan said, taking Roman’s hand and leading him over to the table. He pulled out a chair for him and he sat down. Then Logan sat himself in the other seat across the small table.
“Baguette! Baguette! French words!” Remus’s voice came as he swooped in again, this time donning a chef’s uniform. Roman already felt like throwing up. Nothing Remus made could be edible or safe.
But to his surprise, Remus set down a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich in front of Roman, and it looked like actual peanut butter and jelly. And it smelled like actual peanut butter and… Crofters!”
“Bone apple tea!” Remus said. Roman giggled as he watched his brother strut away. He looked back at Logan with a bright smile. Logan’s heart fluttered at the sight. He’d missed seeing Roman happy. He hardly saw him at all since he left the light sides and even when he occasionally lurked in the living room shadows to watch him and the others, Roman was always frowning.
“What are you staring at?” Roman asked. Logan blinked a few times and sat up from where he was leaning over with his chin held up by the back of his hands and his elbows on the table. Roman was still smiling, but now a blush accompanied it, making him all the more cuter.
“I... Looking at your smile makes me feel… happy!” Logan said, proud of himself for admitting his emotions. “A-and warm! On the inside, I mean.”
“Logan, you’re… acting different,” Roman noted, his brows coming together. He picked up his sandwich and took a bite.
“Different? Does that displease you? I can revert back to my original—“
“No, no! It’s a good different!” Roman assured him, and Logan relaxed, picking up his sandwich and starting to eat as well. “I like this Logan.”
“You like me?” Logan repeated, a grin growing on his face. He set the sandwich down. “I make you feel happiness?”
“More than that,” Roman admitted.
“And how does… Janus make you feel?” Logan’s lips curled into a scowl at just the thought of him and Roman together like earlier.
Roman sighed. “Conflicted. Confused. Unsure.” He frowned. “Bad.”
“Then why did you almost—”
“I don’t know!” Roman suddenly sobbed, putting his head in his hands. “Because I missed you and I wanted to pretend he could make up for you being gone but he can’t!”
“Oh no, please do not cry! I will make it better; just tell me how,” Logan promised, standing up. Roman looked up at him with tears in his eyes. He sniffed and wiped his cheeks with his wrist.
“Just…” he began, his voice shaking. “Come back to me.” Logan gazed down at Roman sadly and shook his head. Roman let out another sob, holding himself and hunching over. Logan quickly fell onto his knees in front of Roman and held his face in his hands, but Roman shoved him away and stood up. He started to run.
“Roman!” Logan called out after him. Remus popped back in.
“What did you do, dumb butt?” he asked.
“I don’t know,” Logan said. “I just told him I wasn’t going back to the others.”
“He probably thinks that means you don’t want to be with him either, you idiot!” Remus scolded, shoving him towards where Roman ran off. “Go after him!” Logan started running. He caught up to Roman and grabbed his waist, pulling him back against him.
“Stay with me,” he whispered into his ear. Roman stopped and looked at him. He repeated. “Stay with me, Roman.”
“You mean… be a dark side?” Roman asked.
“There are no dark sides or light sides, Roman,” Logan said. “The only difference will be where you stay. They don’t listen to you anyway. Please, be with me.”
“I… I want to, but…” he began, though he couldn’t find the words to follow. He had no but. No reason to stay. He nodded and lunged forward, smashing their lips together. Logan held on tight to him.
“You’re mine. All mine,” Logan mumbled against his lips. He pulled back and smiled. “I love you, Roman. And I’m not ashamed of it anymore.” Roman smiled back at him.
“I love you too, Logan,” he said. “And I’m proud of you for letting yourself feel things. I’m so proud of you.” He wiped his eyes. “Oh god I’ve missed you. I can’t wait to listen to one of your informational rants or even just hear you scold me for being dumb.” He laughed a little.
“You want to hear my rants?” Logan asked. “But I’ve been practicing keeping them in so I wouldn’t annoy you if you agreed to stay with me.” Roman’s heart sunk.
“Oh Logan…” he began. “Of course I do. I love you so much. I love hearing you talk and watching you get excited about what you’re talking about.” He glanced up at the sky and smiled. “Come on. Let’s not waste any time.” He sat down, pulling Logan down with him, and pointed at the sky.
“Tell me about the stars, my love.”

The Problem With Asides
Before I get into anything I want to clarify that this is not going to be a criticism of the two Asides episodes we’ve gotten so far. This is a critique of the concept of Sanders Asides as a separate series from the original Sanders Sides. A second note I want to make is that this is, just as all my other posts are, a personal opinion. This is not meant to be an attack on anyone, just a general criticism from a confused writer and viewer of the show.
And final disclaimer: A lot of what I’m going to say is based on information that I no longer have available. It’ll mostly be me recalling things I heard and if I at any point get something wrong please feel free to let me know.
That being said, let’s get into this, shall we?
(Fair warning this post is very long hence why I’ve divided it into parts so feel free to read then come back as you wish)
Part One: The Concept of Asides
Some time ago last year, I believe shortly after Dealing With Intrusive Thoughts came out, was when the idea for Sanders Asides was first announced. The basic concept of it being shorter, more lighthearted videos focusing on the Sides outside of the main storyline. This format would allow them to give us more Sides content in between the long waits for the main series since those episodes were beginning to take more time to produce.
Of course, everyone was eager for more Sides, so the majority of people were excited. Not only that but due to the main series tackling heavier themes, the episodes were becoming more angsty with less time for the characters to just relax and goof off with each other. The idea of having episodes reminiscent of the low stakes, sillier, happier content of season one was a welcome break from the more complex episodes and would be a nice return to form for the series.
We were also informed that these episodes would be much simpler than their main series counterparts and wouldn’t disrupt the work being done on Sanders Sides, which meant we didn’t have to worry about long gaps between the main story episodes, right?
(Another disclaimer: I am perfectly aware of the main reason why we were not given as much content last year and am not blaming Thomas or the team for doing what was necessary to keep themselves safe and hope they continue to do so as this continues into the new year)
Jump to November 22, 2019, where we got our first official episode of Sanders Asides, roughly five months after DWIT came out. Which, for this fandom, was record time to get more content and I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly they were able to get this out. Though at the same time, I wondered why it took five months to make what was meant to be a short, simple episode.
So imagine my surprise when I went to watch the episode and saw it was nearly 20 minutes long. Which, okay, isn’t that bad when you compare it to the lengths of the more recent Sanders Sides episodes. But at the time, I was under the impression that the Asides would be, well, much shorter. The longest I expected would be maybe 15 minutes, but you know what? It’s the first episode and it has been a while since we’ve had Sides content, so maybe they wanted to give us a little extra due to the long wait.
I started the episode and at first, I was overjoyed when I saw the first shot of all the Sides sitting in the living room in their onesies about to have a movie night. This was exactly what I’d been hoping to see from this series! It’s pretty much a staple thing in the fandom for the Sides to have movie nights together, and now it was happening in canon!
At the moment, I had high hopes for this series and was filled with joy.
Then that hope and joy were immediately crushed when I realized this was yet just another Virgil-centric angst episode. In fact, this entire episode was, well, exactly like a regular Sanders Sides episode. Sure, there were some jokes here and there, but the tone of the episode was no lighter than the last Sanders Sides episode. If anything DWIT felt lighter in comparison to this one.
Which leads me to ask, what the heck happened?
Part Two: Literally the Same Show
At this point in time, we’ve only had two episodes of Asides. Usually, I try to hold off my judgment of a series until I’ve had at least one other episode to see if my original criticisms still stand.
To be fair, I did think Flirting With Social Anxiety was a step in the right direction. More comedy, a lighter tone, yes. Perfect. But again, just like with Are There Healthy Distractions? This episode quickly dove right back into the angst pool, and just like ATHD it was a pretty long episode, clocking in at almost 25 minutes.
Not only that but again, both FWSA and ATHD don’t feel any different from the episodes we’ve been getting in Sanders Sides.
1. They’re just as angsty.
2. Roughly the same length as Sanders Sides episodes.
3. Take about just as long to produce.
4. Contain a lesson to be learned.
Which, okay, you can have lessons in lighter shows too, but we’re already getting that in Sanders Sides and Sanders Asides was described as, well, being less plot heavy. Yet so far both episodes are still tied in with the main plot.
ATHD deals with the aftermath of DWIT, not directly but it’s pretty obvious that the whole thing with Virgil’s reveal at the end of that episode is being addressed in the background. Which, kind of takes away the impact of that ending, but I’ll get to that later.
Then FWSA takes place after Putting Others First and again, is dealing with things from that episode in the background. Again though, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It makes sense to see the characters dealing with things from past events.
So why is it a problem here? Because, again, Sanders Asides is meant to be a separate series, and all the subtext brought on from the episodes in Sanders Sides makes the plots in these two episodes confusing.
For example, I was perplexed during my first watch of FWSA because I couldn’t understand why the focus of the conflict was lying. I didn’t understand why Virgil and Roman came to the conclusion that Thomas’ reason for being unable to approach Nico was because he was lying to himself, when both the title of the episode and what we were shown points more to, well, social anxiety being the problem.
(Quick note: One could argue that this was done purposefully to have Virgil putting the blame on Janus since he doesn’t like him and wouldn’t want to admit that he was the one responsible, but this series has had a bad habit of favoring Virgil in the past so until we get more answers I’m gonna leave this on the backburner)
It didn’t help that I had no idea when this episode was meant to take place in the timeline, and I originally thought it could take place a bit after season two since Roman and Virgil seemed to be doing better, but more on them later.
All of this bugged me until I found out that FWSA takes place after POF, and after watching the live stream that followed and getting some more context, the lying thing made a bit more sense, but the fact that I was as confused as I was just caused more frustration to build up. And I wasn’t the only one who got thrown off by the “Lying is wrong” message of FWSA so I had to ask again, why was this episode a Sanders Asides when apparently, you need information from the last Sanders Sides episode in order to understand it?
So you’re telling me, that the second episode in what is supposed to be a separate series that isn’t meant to be a part of the main plot, is now integral to the plot of the main story you’re telling in what is, as you have said, a separate show? How does that make any sense?
Okay, one could argue that Thomas getting a love interest doesn’t really fit with the current storyline that’s going on in Sanders Sides, and that is a fair point. The problem with that is, FWSA takes place right after Putting Others First.
You all remember what happened at the end of that episode, right?
Part Three: Intrusive Plots
At this point we’ve all become rather accustomed to the long waits in between videos, it’s nothing new to us, and for the most part they haven’t done anything to harm the current plot of Sanders Sides. Sure, the length of time between videos can cause people to lose interest, but for the most part the tone of the last three episodes of Sanders Sides hasn’t differed much and the story flow is still going along smoothly.
Let’s start with Selfishness vs Selflessness, which is the episode that sets up the big climax for season two. It’s still got its jokes and funny moments, but the overall tone is far more serious than previous episodes have been. This carries on into DWIT where Thomas has been so stressed out lately that he’s begun to have trouble with his intrusive thoughts.
Virgil even gives a pretty good summary of Thomas’ current mental state: “He recently realized he’s a bigger liar than he thought he was, he doesn’t understand himself, he’s committed to skipping a big callback, and he’s sleep-deprived. So yeah, he feels like a piece of dirt who has no control over his life.”
And all that was a direct result of the ending of SVS, despite DWIT not being the direct follow up to that episode the two are still intertwined. Remember that for later.
DWIT ends with the long awaited reveal of Virgil having been a “Dark Side.” Even though the majority of the fandom had figured it out by as early as Can Lying Be Good? That didn’t take away from the emotional gut punch that this scene was and it’s one of my favorite moments from the series. I may have to make a whole post breaking that scene down but what matters is that this scene was a turning point for Virgil’s character.
We’ve seen him trying to hide the truth from Thomas ever since Janus and Remus started popping up, and there were close calls with both of them nearly revealing it themselves and continuously dropping hints to Thomas. Only for Virgil to admit it to Thomas himself, and leave before Thomas can even say a word.
We don’t know for sure how Thomas is feeling in this moment, but it’s clear he’s been shaken by this. He doesn’t really have a lot of time to process it before he remembers to acknowledge the audience and close out the video.
This comes up again once we finally get to the monster of an episode that is POF, the follow up to SVS that everyone had been waiting over a year for. Right away we see that Patton and Roman will be at the forefront of this discussion with Logan popping up every now and then, but who doesn’t show up in this episode despite having played a role in SVS?
Virgil.
He’s nowhere to be seen and his absence is definitely felt. Why wouldn’t he be part of this discussion? He was there in SVS and had a lot to say on the matter, he was even part of the decision to choose the wedding over the callback! So why wasn’t he there?
Well, just look at the ending of DWIT and there’s your answer. Of course he isn’t about to show his face after that. Not when Thomas is already under so much stress already and he isn’t sure how Thomas will react to seeing him-
*insert random voice whispering off to the side*
Wait, Virgil has seen Thomas since DWIT? When?
*whispers continue*
Oh, right, they interacted in Sanders Asides. How did that go again?
*whispers explain*
Huh? Thomas said he’s cool with Virgil despite revealing that he’s been hiding something from him this whole time? That “something” being the fact that Virgil was once considered part of the others that were currently making Thomas’ life miserable?
*whispers confirm*
Really? They’re both okay with each other now? Well, good for them.
So wait, then why didn’t Virgil show up in POF? He was there during the first discussion and honestly he’d have more of a reason to show up than Logan who wasn’t really present at all in SVS.
*whispers explain*
He just wasn’t need there? Hm, alright. Guess that makes sense…
Well okay, Virgil and Thomas are on good terms once POF rolls around, Virgil isn’t present during the conversation because he isn’t needed and I suppose his presence would make things worse. Especially once Janus revealed himself, he wouldn’t allow him to get a word in. Even though Janus could probably silence him but I digress.
Fast forward towards the ending of POF, remember when I said to remember how SVS and DWIT were connected? Well DWIT is just as important to POF, acting as a bit of bridge between to the two episodes.
Tumblr media
Janus brings up Remus (both directly and indirectly) twice in this episode.
First here:
Notice how Roman’s breakdown is already being foreshadowed here, the camera focusing on him while “Logan” says this isn’t an accident.
The second time Remus is brought up is at the very end after Janus has revealed his name:
“Oh, Roman thank God you don’t have a mustache. Otherwise between you and Remus, I wouldn’t know who the evil twin is.”
(No I am not posting screenshots of this scene I already got emotional over the last one)
As we saw at the end of DWIT, Roman does not have a good relationship with is brother. So much so that when Thomas refers to Remus as such, Roman creates a different analogy that compares Remus to a mirror, reflecting everything Roman doesn’t want to be.
Roman desperately wants to distance himself from Remus, not wanting anything to do with him. We’ve only gotten a glimpse of just how far this loathing goes, and part of that comes from Roman finally breaking down after being told by Janus that if it wasn’t for a mustache there’d be no difference between him and Remus.
This shook Roman more than anything else in the show has so far, moreso than him being the one to decide that Thomas should give up the callback. He was the one that pushed Thomas to make that decision, believing it was the noble thing to do, only for it to only make Thomas feel worse and then be told by Janus that his “noble sacrifice” was all for nothing.
Janus, the one who had been supporting Roman throughout SVS, buttering him up and encouraging him to go after his dream, told him that his sacrifice was worthless. Then to top it all off Janus admits what he did and brushes it off as a joke. He doesn’t apologize to Roman, leaving him in the dust, then when Roman responds by laughing at his name he’s shot down even lower.
And when he looks to Thomas and Patton for help, for answers, anything.
They stay silent.
Patton tries to reassure him, telling Roman that they love him, but he doesn’t believe it. He sinks out, and that’s the last we see of him.
Selfishness vs Selflessness, Dealing With Intrusive Thoughts, and Putting Others First are three of the biggest (and dare I say most important) episodes in the series. The three almost act like a trilogy, with POF leading to something bigger, the season finale. Which will be culmination of all three of these episodes.
We’ll be seeing Virgil’s reaction to Janus having been accepted by Patton and facing his own past as a “Dark Side.” Then we’ll find out what has become of Roman after he disappeared at the end of POF, and how it now affects his relationship with Thomas.
*whispers return and begin to whisper*
I’m sorry what?
*whispers repeat*
Virgil already knows about Janus getting somewhat accepted? Well okay I guess he would, wish we could have seen his reaction to that but oh well, no big deal. At least we got the Roman and Thomas confrontation to look forward to.
*whispers whisper*
Roman has already interacted with Thomas since POF? When?!
*whisper*
In FWSA? Oh yeah, how did that go again? It was super awkward right? Since Roman doesn’t really trust that Thomas loves or values him?
*whisperly whisper*
They get along just fine as if nothing happened?
*whispersty*
It looks like he might still be upset with him since he’s being a bit passive aggressive?
*whisper*
Can’t really tell because the three are too busy trying to talk to a cute guy at the mall?
Okay, I guess that all makes sense…
Looks like Roman and Virgil still aren’t on the best terms with Thomas but are able to push that aside to help him talk to this handsome stranger, and hey, it worked! Thomas now has a boyfriend! Just look at Roman and Virgil at the end, they’re both so happy with Thomas!
Looks like now they can focus on this new chapter in their life and leave the events of POF behind them. I mean, now that Roman and Virgil seem pretty cool with Thomas it would just feel weird to suddenly have them angry with him again, wouldn’t it?
Part Four: The Problem
Sanders Asides was originally described as being a series separate from the main storyline of Sanders Sides. Promising us shorter, less complicated episodes to give us a little something in between the longer, heavier episodes in Sanders Sides. This was a great idea that ended up falling apart the moment it began.
When I was going through SVS, DWIT, and POF I mentioned that the three of them felt like a trilogy. All three of them link together to tell one bigger story, and on their own they get the job done. They set up the season finale perfectly to the point where you have an idea of what to expect and what to look forward to.
The main things being the aftermath of Virgil’s reveal and Roman’s breakdown, which would most likely cultivate in them teaming up against Janus. This would also involve Virgil coming to terms with his past and Roman having to face Remus.
Of course, none of this has been officially confirmed, but given everything we’ve seen up to this point it just makes sense.
The story for season two is nearly complete, all we’re missing is the conclusion.
Then Sanders Asides showed up and threw everything off course. What was supposed to be its own thing crept into a story that was already (for all we knew) set up and being put into place.
We were told that the Asides wouldn’t do anything to disrupt the flow of Sanders Sides, yet it’s been confirmed that there will be one or two more episodes of Asides before we get the season finale.
Why? Why are these episodes necessary when everything was set to move forward after POF? If these episodes are that important that they absolutely have to be made before the finale then why are they simply not part of the main series?
You could say “Well they’re not directly tied to the main plot, that’s why.” But need I remind you that Asides as a concept was just intriduced after DWIT came out? These episodes were written specifcally for Asides, which unless I’m wrong means that they were just added into the main story with no planning whatsoever.
FWSA honestly feels like it should have been the start of season three, something that should have waited to be introduced after season two wrapped up because it’s just too much.
We already have so much to unpack from SVS, DWIT, and POF now we also have a new love interest on top of that?
Virgil and Thomas’ resolution doesn’t even feel all that special because it wasn’t talked about directly between them. Thomas was indirectly letting Virgil know they were still okay, so what does that leave for us? All that build up about Virgil being a “Dark Side” only for it to be brushed over like it was nothing, and this happened in an Asides episode, not even in the main series.
It also makes Virgil’s absence in POF confusing when they had already set up the perfect reason for him to be absent in DWIT, but according to the first episode of ATHD Virgil and Thomas are okay with each other. Sure, Virgil being there might have made things worse but at that point everyone was making things worse.
We no longer have a confrontation between Thomas and Roman to look forward to because in FWSA we see them interacting as normal. Even the passive agressiveness isn’t anything new to Roman and really, it all just sounds super petty which he had been known to behave like that even when nothing is seriously wrong. Not only that Roman is overjoyed at the end, having finally gotten something he desperately wanted, the happy ending he deserved.
All that’s left for him is to fave his feelings towards Remus, but what would even happen there?
The problem with Asides isn’t the quality of the episodes, FWSA is actually one of my favorite episodes. The problem with Asides is that the team is taking what should have been something small and turning it into a far too elaborate for what its original purpose was: To give us more lighthearted content to enjoy in between the waits for the heavier episodes.
Instead it just feels like they’re adding onto something that really didn’t need adding on to, creating more work for themselves when it just isn’t necessary, and that worries me.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, it’s hard for me to make all these judgments when no one has any idea what the finale is going to be like. And usually, the team is able to excede my expectations and create something amazing.
But with all these new Asides episodes that feel like they’re just being crammed in at the last second, it makes me wonder how the rest of the series will go if they continue down this road.
Season two started September 1st, 2017, it is now January 3rd, 2021. Throughout season two the production of episodes became more elaborate, and there have been complications that arose from trying to make these videos as a result that sent production screeching to a halt. And on top of that, these Sanders Asides have been added to create even more work for Thomas and the team.
I don’t understand why they’d do this to themselves when it’s already become more difficult than ever to make videos in general, not just Sanders Sides.
We were offered something simple that would have satisfied everyone during the difficult times, only to be given something that honestly, wasn’t even needed. I do appreciate Thomas trying to get us more content, but I don’t think he or the team realizes just how content we’d all be with just a five minute video of the characters we love just doing something as simple as hanging out and having fun, especially with how dark things have become all around us.
We don’t always have to be watching these characters struggle, sometimes we just need to see them be genuinely happy.
(Thanks to everyone who took time to read this monster of a post, I did not mean for it to get this long but it’s been dwelling on my mind for a while and I wanted to make sure I got out everything I wanted to say. Again, this is all just a personal opinions and you are not obligated to agree with me. If you have an objecting opinion I would not mind hearing it but please keep any discussions civil.)
