holy shit I just realized something about Heartstrings Syntax. He was using the flirting to distract and/or lift the spirits of Y/N. He was trying to make them feel better through messing around flirting. And when that didn’t work, and Y/N was very clearly uncomfortable with it, he pulled away almost immediately. Holy shit

Yesyesyes! I love it when people noticed the little details!! Syntax is well aware that he's basically squatting in your home, even though he knows you're okay with it. Honestly he kind of feels that your predicament is partly his fault, but he feels too awkward to come out and talk about it with you. It's like when a dad who never apologizes feels bad for something, and tries to do other things to express that sort of feeling. But never explicitly saying so. Syntax knows you're comfortable with his advances (for the most part, you haven't reacted badly). This is the first time you didn't seem to retaliate or even respond in a positive light, so it was a red flag. He really does respect you, and would never cross your boundaries.
