checking in to say I’m such a sucker for Katniss and Peeta discussing their mommy issues once they’re together again. I once saw a post pointing out that they’re the only ones in the series with that kind of trauma and it made so much sense to me why they easily bonded with each other. Just imagine them finally being able to discuss how unsafe they felt even before the games and realize that they have someone in their family who understands that problem and doesn’t make it feel that way. Katniss and Peeta have always been tender with each other but I fear it only gets worse the more they share and get close
we joke a lot about how THG is what Katniss would write about her experiences in the games and war. (Explaining her, frankly, INSANE odes to Peeta's eyelashes.) but also? we're sleeping on the idea that Katniss writes a book absolutely trashing Peeta's mom. It's gonna be a fucking BESTSELLER. I actually have an advanced reader copy, here, lemme show you:
Tumblr media
(Note, i spent like 4 hours making this absolutely garbage fucking cover, please validate me. My feelings gland needs this.) I also have this idea that while Katniss does come to understand her mother better by the end of the book - a relationship, a GOOD relationship, with the two of them - it's just going to take time. In that time, maybe Peeta helps to bridge the gap. He does weekly check-ins with Katniss' mom. Telling her how Katniss is doing but also answering her questions about how HE'S doing. And he realizes how...nice it is for a mom to want to know how his day was or be proud of his accomplishments. It's not a replacement for what he should have had, but it's nicer than what he ever got. His relationship with his family is gone. That's it. There will never be any hope of it ever getting better. But Katniss DOES have her mom and he wants to help them. And, from the conversations and tears they've shared about this, he knows she wants it too. So he starts by suggesting that Katniss' mom go through her own therapy to be able to come to terms with her grief and the consequences of what that grief did to her relationships with her living family. He puts her in touch with Dr. Aurelius who gives him a referral to someone in 4 that works in grief and family counseling. And it's not easy. Not by any means. Not for anyone. But in time, years, decades - the bonds of family are strengthened. They're never perfect, you can't fix the past, of course. But the pains are acknowledged on both sides. Their new relationship is hard-earned and exactly what they both need of each other. 15 years down the line, Mrs. Everdeen gets to push the hair out of her daughters eyes while she delivers her first grandbaby. She gets to watch her baby look in awe, and wonderment at her own baby. She gets to watch her family grow a little bigger and a little stronger. Later, when Peeta makes sure both Katniss and baby are safe and sleeping, he goes over to Mrs. Everdeen and hugs her tightly. "Thanks for being here for us, Ma."

How to help your little become comfortable with Public play
One of my little ones @squirtdaboi asked me to write this as we explore public play within our dynamic.
Firstly let me define what I mean before I get shouted at for including others in kink without their consent.
In this instance we are talking padding, cute outfits and the dynamic itself playing out in public.
I'm going to break this down into a few parts
But my number 1 concern is safety, I'm never putting them in harm's way, I'm not going push them beyond what they are comfortable with.
Safety
Communication
The Play itself
After care and post outing communication
Safety
As a Daddy and Dom I'm always pushing my boys to grow, to expand themselves and be the best version of themselves (in and out of dynamics).
An example, my youngest who asked me to write this and I are starting small, he wears a pull up out, and I will low key talk to him like a kiddo.
He gets very squirmy, usually tells me to shut up (this is part of our dynamic). He gets flustered and a bit embarrassed.
I remind him no one is around and if they heard us they would have no clue what we are talking about. And I use humour to distract him.
I am never going to make him do something dumb like put his Dummy and demand he does as Daddy says; that's an overstep.
However in a recent outting he went out thickly padded, in dungarees, he took his Dummy and in a secluded place he popped it in and asked for a photo.
He felt amazing; I made him feel safe to ask for this- mission accomplished.
Know where you are and who's about before exploring public play! Always think about your little's comfort level and emotions.
I have to do this more because my little has special needs.
Communication
And this brings us to this important aspect, because of his sensory issues we have to talk and plan things more, and I'm more than happy to do.
Communication helps bring its own level of safety, each person knows exactly what's going to happen.
Discussing expectations before embarking on public play, what will.yoy be doing, how will it work and what precautions you might take! Remember safety!
Praise, Praise, Praise, Praise! Can't emphasize this enough! If he does something well, gets out of his comfort zone or does something unexpected - praise the fuck out of him!
Tell him how proud you are, tell him he's the best little boy in the world, and reward him- I buy mine little treats, but you could easily set up a reward system to support him!
Take time when it goes wrong, if he's anxious then take to a quiet space and 'check in", it's great if you have a set of questions that you always ask. This builds consistency and trust!
If you're still learning your little comfort levels you could set up a simple set of phrases where he can communicate "Green, Amber and Red" for example. Quick, no fuss communication is very beneficial; safe words aren't just for the bedroom!
Also reassure them throughout the experience! I tell my little one "doing scary things means you are brave, and being brave builds confidence!
The Play itself
This is best done in incremental steps, baby steps if you will. Start with being padded, or talking to them like a little, whilst in public.
Start with maybe a short walk to a local shop, Or grabbing changing supplies whilst at the supermarket.
Gauge the reactions of those around you and demonstrate no one cares! Reflect back how safe he is.
Be consistent, we are going to do X, and stick to it, don't change it up at the last minute. However if you have built a level of trust then a small additional extra; know your little well though, if change is an issue then don't do it!
And again praise that boy because the more he knows you are proud of him and that you got his back the more confident he's going to be!
The more he's going to want to do!
Again I can't stress enough doing different things each time, but make sure you communicate exactly what will happen! Make it fun and exciting!
After care and post outing communication
One thing to think about is having a strategy if things go wrong. That includes keeping your cool if your little one wasn't able to do what was expected or perhaps got stressed and refused.
Have an exit strategy; where are you going to take them, how will you hug in public or what will you communicate to them?
You're their Daddy, they look at you during stressful situations, they need to know you got them. Maybe they have a small pocket stuffie or comfort item. Maybe go to their favourite cafe for a hot chocolate.
And if it went well, to plan or exceeded your expectations, then praise the heck out of that boy; hesy of just broken through years of fear of repression. He needs to know how God's damn proud you are of him!
Like all aftercare you provide you know what your kiddo likes. Mines definitely about close snuggles and warm blankets, and of course quiet time to process. So he gets all of that once home.
And a bottle because it builds such a powerful bond!
Conclusion
You are building the foundations for his growth, and if you are anything like this Daddy, then you should be invested in the long game!
So little by little, pun intended, you are developing skills and abilities in him that will help in every area of his life; invest in him, and you will help create not only an exceptional little, but an incredible (little) Man!

I was tagged by @myfavouritelunatic ❤️ so here we go...
Rules: Share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written less than ten, do not be shy and share anyway.
There's definitely several that aren't posted yet but here we go for things opened/touched in 2023, that I can currently find anyway...
Also definitely went with an intro section vs just the opening line. Whoops. I'll just add a cut here to hopefully save the length of the post.
Intro to Malum House || Gothic Romance Zemo
The scent of soot lingers in the air. It seems to have permeated the very fabric of the world. Two days hence, the ruins of the estate still produce enough heat to keep most well away and add to the growing buffer between society and those of the household that remain.
2. (Current) intro to Haunting the Hampton House || various faceclaims
Something that you can take as true is that Elliot and Frank sort of saved one another. It’s a long story, and neither can be relied upon to tell it well in its entirety. Each claim the other brought them back into the world, back from the brink. Maybe both are right. Maybe neither.
3. Intro to Sins of the Father || sequel to the AU branch of LJH: The Baron & The Dove, Baron Helmut Zemo
An impossible thing has been delivered as a taunt to try to lure Helmut away from this safe haven - a video clip of Carl, aged 14, a young petulant defiant voice that sounds tinny through the speakers. You watch, transfixed, standing at Helmut’s shoulder. Both of you are held captive, unable to look away.
4. Intro to In Darkness I Dwell || Daniel Brühl AU
He’s proud of this -- and annoyed he didn’t think of it sooner. The idyllic little town is perfect to continue his work. The need is astounding. And there’s the connection -- the memory nearly lost for how long ago it occurred and how infrequently it has been revisited -- of skinned knees and summer nights spent howling with the other children. It was a time before thoughts turned towards vocation, before puberty and that fumbled first-time behind the garden shed. That memory has been revisited so often it’s become a warped, changed thing.
5. (Current) intro to WISH 5: Wish Among The Stars c.7 || Loki WISH series
SHIELD had provided the skills, the training, but never had gone so far as abilities. Captain Rogers was an accomplishment SHIELD never was able to replicate. HYDRA on the other hand --- there were whispers, whispers much like those that cast you as untrustworthy, as unworthy of the uniform. Rumors about fringe programs, rebooted. Rumors about science beyond what even Tony Stark – a man always pushing the limit – could dream up. If the rumors were true you had either never qualified or they had classified you as just problematic enough to keep them wary, to keep you relegated to a standard division without adding further complications.
6. Opening lines of The Long Journey Home c.31 || Baron Helmut Zemo/reader/Bucky Barnes
A sound machine is the theory that Sam and Bucky were discussing before breakfast. A sound machine for you to use to see if that will help with your inability to sleep. You’d looked between it and Bucky’s face, trying not to let your doubts show even as he squinted at the box itself and read out the additional features of the particular one he’d pulled from the shelf to analyze with you.
Tagging anybody that would like to play!

Text out of context:
Kiera: feel you girl but trust me when I say everybody’s feels that way! I feel like that all the time. I keep telling myself damn my PA journey is slower because I’ve decided to spend some time abroad and I trip on it at least a few times a week. But then everyone around me reminds me that it’s not a fucking race, we can only control where we are right now and right now is exactly where we need to be. There’s no deadline for getting a degree, getting a dream job, having a family or getting a home. And when you look back later on in life it’ll all make sense why you are on the current path. You just have to enjoy the ride and work at being 1% better each day and push 1% closer to your goal each day
Erin Burks: Absolutely So so so true Legit re-reading this ❤️ need the reminder over and over lol
Kiera: Don’t forget it babe! And we can vent about it together when you’re here because I’m telling you I feel that way a lot too! And so does everyone I talk to.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm starting to realize that I will always be striving and always have a sense of emptiness because that is a baseline emotion for a human. It's the static behind the internal monologue, the fuzzy crackle of the TV when you turn it off at night.
My life is not a preamble to an eventual state of accomplishment. My life is happening right now. And it's a good life led by a well-meaning if slightly neurotic, late 20-something. Getting cozy with the grind is just part of that. Getting comfortable with change is part of that. Advocating for yourself is part of that.
It's growth and steps and glasses of water. We're born, we grow, we die. We nourish others along the way. I'm trying to poison myself less.
So on this less than remarkable day, a day on which I'm not that proud, I would like to note the following facts about my existence.
Perfume and clothing arrived in the mail today! Hollah- full capitalist haul and review coming oh-so-soon
Had a 30-minute lovely phone call with Dad that was way better than the super depressing one I had with Zach
Martyn bought our London hotel room and is picking me up from Heathrow in a couple of days
I made a cheesy mushroom sauce burger with red onion and watched Sex and the City with a very subdued (read: depressed) Makenna. I worry for her. Well, I worry for us all.
Stayed up working, got up early to work. I enjoy having a job.
My therapist complimented my nails. Also I'm more anxious than depressed these days. Still human, but fuck yeah we're doing the damn thing aren't we?
Did a beach/music walk and my shin splint is improved
Listened to podcasts, did the dishes, long hot shower
Read the news for maybe too long (wow, it's really awful everywhere, huh? My problems are very small in comparison)
Meditated. On imposter syndrome of all things. That's me. But I am doing things all the time to heal, aren't I? So it counts.

29 G.A.t.W. AU - The C.W.s start 2yrs early bc of Galactic Law EVERY Natborn in the GAR MUST be 18yr old. Obi-Wan is forced to leave behind his young Padawan. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.. Without the Masters being able to be there physically they have to start training programs to help the Pawadans. Every Master now has to teach certain subjects. Anakin finally sees a mind healer & finds inner peaces without the Council breathing down his neck. The Temple Locked Down so No Sith Influenc
so this is a beautiful ask and beautiful future and i followed it like i follow my google maps directions which means maybe 30% of the way but i was watching lord of the rings and thinkin about braids so here is this and i'm very sorry it's what it is
29. Going Away To War AU (Tatooine slave culture, 17!Anakin, preslash/Anakin's pining, mullet!Obi-Wan)(2.3k)
The Padawan braid isn’t the first braid Anakin learns about. It’s not even the fiftieth. By the time Qui-Gon Jinn, Queen Amidala, and Obi-Wan Kenobi land on Tatooine, Anakin is well-versed in the language of braids and what each means. He hadn’t had any of his own yet, seeing as how he was only nine with no accomplishments or triumphs or romantic entanglements to advertise, but if he had stayed on Tatooine, he’d probably have gotten his first braid after he won the podrace.
HIs mother would have done it with gentle hands and a proud smile, and their neighbors would have gathered outside their door to try and be the first one to congratulate him.
Braids are important. They’re sacred. Their style and the beads woven through the strands signify everything important to know about the Tatooinian wearing them. He’d see the freed people’s braids in the marketplace and burn with envy. He’d see a blushing girl braid her lover’s obsidian into his hair to signify courtship, and know one day he’d do the same to someone else. He’d practice his braids until his hands hurt from the motion, wanting to be perfect at it before he’d need to know. After all, as a slave, there wouldn’t be much else he could offer them except beautiful braids and beads.
There is only one braid he doesn’t know the meaning of, and it’s the one that hung down Obi-Wan Kenobi’s shoulder when they first met.
He thinks about asking him, even though it might be considered rude, but before he can, they’re at the Jedi Temple, then on Naboo and then Master Jinn is dead and Obi-Wan’s braid is gone, and Anakin thinks, oh. So the braid means love.
Mourners on Tatooine cut the braids off their dead and then a single braid from their own head, to mean that a part of themselves has died as well. Obi-Wan tries to be extra nice to Obi-Wan after that.
That is, until the man approaches Anakin with a serrated knife and a rueful grin and tells him that because the Council has allowed him to take him as his padawan, it’s time for Anakin to have the Padawan haircut.
The fit Anakin throws at these words could probably be heard back on Tatooine, but his new master must be made of the same strength Lukka crafts the sandstorms from, because an hour later, Anakin is looking at his shorn locks on the floor in a state of horrified shock.
Obi-Wan kneels down at his side as he begins braiding together the lone strand of hair Anakin has been allowed to keep.
“I’m sorry,” his master says quietly. “I know that your hair is very important to you on Tatooine.”
“How will I practice my braids now?” Anakin asks despondently. If he is to have short hair until he’s Obi-Wan’s age (ancient), then he won’t ever be able to practice the courtship braids. The engagement braids. The marriage braids. All the other ones too. Do the Jedi just present their beloveds with sloppy braids?
The thought has him near tears.
Obi-Wan looks very panicked. “Please don’t cry,” he begs. “Jedi apprentices shouldn’t cry.”
Anakin’s vision becomes even more blurred at this. Now he’ll never be able to practice his braids and he’s a bad Jedi.
“Oh blast, that’s not what I meant,” Obi-Wan backtracks, hesitantly putting his hand on Anakin’s shoulder. It’s not very comforting, but it’s the best Anakin has so he resolves to make do and lean into the touch. “Well. You can, uh. You can braid my hair?”
Anakin sniffles. “Your hair is short. And ugly.”
His master laughs and ruffles Anakin’s own short hair. “I’ll grow it out, just for you if it’s that important to you.”
He would? Anakin looks up at him hopefully. That could work. It even makes sense, kind of, for Obi-Wan to let Anakin braid his hair. After all, Anakin’s going to be wearing Obi-Wan’s braid, even though he doesn’t love him yet.
Maybe the Jedi do things differently. Maybe the Jedi weave the braid, and the love comes later.
---
“I remember a young boy telling me my hair was ugly,” his master says consideringly, as he lets himself be pushed to the floor while Anakin clambers onto the bed behind him.
“You bring that up every time, Master,” he sighs as he strokes his hands through Obi-Wan’s admittedly beautiful mane of hair. It’s not as long as he’d like, not really, but it doesn at least go down to his shoulders. “I don’t know how many times you want me to apologize.”
“Oh, just once more,” his master smiles with his voice. Anakin will miss this. Anakin doesn’t know how he’ll live without it, without Obi-Wan’s quiet wit and wry humor, his willingness to indulge Anakin no, even if it’s been eight years of braid-practicing.
“Once more might be all we have time for, Master,” Anakin whispers. His fears are not the sort one can say loudly.
“Do not think like that,” Obi-Wan turns his head to the side just enough so that he can look up at Anakin. “It will be fine. I will be fine.” “You’d be better if I came with you!” Anakin argues loudly. “You know I’m old enough! It’s not fair!”
His voice cracks on the last word, making him wince as Obi-Wan raises an eyebrow.
“The Jedi Council and all Republic legal branches have spoken. We will not take children into a warzone--”
“Then don’t, but I’m almost eightee--”
“--And I agree with them.”
Anakin’s fingers slacken on the strands of hair, loosening the braid. “You do?” he asks, feeling betrayed. “You want to leave me here at the Temple while you go get yourself killed on some Mid-Rim planet?”
“I want you safe, Padawan,” Obi-Wan corrects, breaking away from him so that he may stand up and sit beside him on the bed. “A war is no place for Jedi, but while us knights have no choice but to fight, we would keep our younglings as far from it as possible--even those younglings who are only a few months shy of being eighteen.”
“You’re taking away my choice,” Anakin says quietly, anger abating enough that he has to struggle to hide the fear in his voice. He brings his knees up against his chest and curls tightly into himself. “What if you die and--and--” he breaks off and pulls useless at his Padawan braid.
He knows what it means now after eight years spent at the Jedi Temple. It’s supposed to denote the Padawan from the Master, and signify the respect an apprentice has for their teacher.
But he’s never been able to shake his original conclusion that it was a representation of love, though he’d never say that aloud.
But when he touches it, sees it in the mirror, he’s reminded only of the love he bears for his master. A guilty, shameful love that takes up too much of his mind and heart. He’d fallen in love with Obi-Wan somehow. Now when Anakin dreams of marriage beads, his fingers are invariably braiding them into coppery blond hair. Now when Anakin dreams of--well, other things, it’s always Obi-Wan’s body beneath his, over his, inside of his, around his--
And now the galaxy is at war, the Knights and Masters of the Jedi Temple called to defend the Republic, and Anakin is too young to follow his master.
“And what, dear one?” Obi-Wan asks gently, hand coming up to unclasp Anakin’s fingers from his braid. “If I die, you will let me go as any Jedi would. I will become one with the Force and you will continue forward.”
Anakin almost wants to shake his shoulders. Doesn’t his master know anything about Anakin at all? How could Obi-Wan say these things as if he believes them? If Obi-Wan were to die--if he were to die away from Anakin, without Anakin--if the unthinkable were to happen--Anakin doesn’t know what he’d do.
A part of himself would die as well, he knows that immediately. He’d cut Obi-Wan’s braid from his hair so that the man could be buried with it, and he’d never weave another.
“Have faith in me, Anakin,” Obi-Wan tells him softly, hand falling to rest on his shoulders. “I will come back. Or perhaps in a few months you will join me.” He sounds falsely enthusiastic, like he’d do anything to keep Anakin away from the war.
As if Anakin would let that happen as soon as he’s legally able to fight.
“Will you let me braid your hair?” he whispers, slowly sitting cross-legged.
“Of course,” Obi-Wan says immediately, sinking back to the floor.
“Will you keep them in this time? For as long as you can?” Anakin asks, shily, running his fingers through Obi-Wan’s hair slowly, savoring the softness of the strands.
“I will do my best,” his master promises him. “What will they mean?”
“Good fortune,” Anakin replies, seeing the braid come together in his mind’s eye. Yes, good fortune, a plea to the gods who see Obi-Wan in battle to look the other way. To take someone else instead. He gets to work, collecting a chunk of hair on the left side of Obi-Wan’s temple to braid back.
Nothing’s fixed. Nothing’s better. The person Anakin’s pretty sure is the love of his life will be sent out to fight tomorrow at dawn, and he might die never knowing how Anakin feels about him.
But it’s not like Anakin can tell him either, not when he’s seventeen. Not when he’s Obi-Wan’s Padawan.
He’s always planned to wait until after he’s been Knighted, after Obi-Wan has been given enough time to see Anakin as a man who has a choice whether or not to love him. And, yes, the Code forbids attachment and Jedi cannot marry, but it’s not like Anakin would ever be able to marry Obi-Wan legally even on Tatooine.
But he could give him the braids, if Obi-Wan wanted. That way, when they both died, in their sleep of natural causes, the Goddess Leia knows to keep their souls intertwined as she transports them to their afterlife.
Anakin’s fingers pause as he thinks of something that would make him feel better.
He bites his lip. His mother would disapprove. To give the braids to someone without their knowledge is heavily frowned upon.
Anakin winces, even as his hands change direction. These are extenuating circumstances. There’s a lot at stake here. Anakin can’t risk a life and an afterlife without his master. And he’s going to ask him eventually. Just not now. Just not yet.
The braids for good fortune form a crown over one’s head. The braids for marriage…
They start similarly enough at the temples, but connect to each other at the back of the head, where a third braid is begun. Then each braid is braided into each other. The left braid represents the braider. The right braid represents their beloved. The third braid that begins when the two meet represents the life that they will create together.
Anakin holds the three braids loosely in his hands, staring down at them in some sort of surreal shock. This is not the circumstances he has imagined doing this under, but he’s heartbroken. Not when it’s Obi-Wan who will be wearing his braids.
“Dear one?” Obi-Wan asks, breaking the heavy silence. “I do not mean to rush you, but my knees are starting to hurt.”
“You’re so old,” Anakin quips back, stroking a thumb over one of the braids, the right one--Obi-Wan’s.
“And you are so very young,” Obi-Wan retorts. “The two of us together is the equivalent of one good soldier.”
Anakin’s heart pauses for a second. “Would you want that?” he asks nonsensically.
“What?”
“If you could choose. If I were eighteen. Would you want to be…” Just as suddenly as he gained that sudden burst of confidence, he loses it. He sighs, mostly in disappointment at himself.
“Anakin?” Obi-Wan prompts.
“You’d want me there with you if I weren’t too young, wouldn’t you, master?” Anakin finally says.
Obi-Wan hesitates, and Anakin’s chest feels tight. “I would want you safe, regardless of age, dear one,” he settles on saying.
Anakin’s fingers clench down on the almost complete marriage braids. “But if there were no war,” he forges ahead. “If the war never happened. You wouldn’t want to leave me behind. You’d want to stay together.”
Anakin can just imagine the furrowed eyebrows Obi-Wan must be sporting as he tries to figure out what Anakin wants from him.
“Just answer the question,” Anakin begs, tightening his hold on the braids to prevent Obi-Wan from turning around.
“You are my Padawan, Anakin,” Obi-Wan says slowly. “And someone who will one day be my partner, my friend. I would like...very much to be allowed to see you finish growing into the fine man you will be. The one that in many ways you already are.”
“And then?” Anakin asks doggedly. “When we’re both knights. And you’re assigned...a mission. And you get to choose your partner. And it’s me or. Or someone else. I don’t care. Who would you choose?”
“Well, I suppose it would depend on if this fabricated mission depends on stealth. Secrecy. The ability to tell a believable falsehoo--”
“I’m being serious,” Anakin insists, cutting his master off. He almost wants to drop the braids, let them fall apart. Clearly Obi-Wan doesn’t...perhaps won’t ever--
“It’d be you,” Obi-Wan murmurs very quietly, as if afraid to speak louder. “We are better together than we are separate.”
Anakin blinks and then smiles, only a little teary-eyed at his master’s confession. “Yes, Master,” he agrees, finally--finally--braiding the three braids together and tying them off neatly. He pictures the material of their souls responding the same way that Obi-Wan’s hair has. The thought makes him feel equal parts giddy and guilty.
“After all, someone needs to make sure you don’t crash every ship in the Jedi Temple,” Obi-Wan continues dryly.
“Yes, Master,” Anakin agrees again, running a hand lightly over his work.
He’ll tell him when he’s a Knight. Really.

**********************************************************************
***Chapter Six***
He was uncomfortable. He was extremely uncomfortable under the scrutiny of his brothers and father, and yet she looked like she was over the moon as she laughed at another dumb joke Dick told. And he didn’t know what he was more unnerved by, the fact that she’d lied straight through her teeth about what she did for a living like it was the easiest thing in the world, or that his family of “Master Detectives” couldn’t figure out that the twenty-eight-year-old freelance artist was actually a ten-thousand-year-old vampire from another dimension—some detectives they were.
Jason watched as she grabbed the silver fork again and took a bite of the cheese souffle appetizer that Alfred had prepared for dinner. He worried about the contact of silver on her skin. None of the jewelry or silverware in her home was silver, in fact, nothing in her home was silver. It was either bronze or gold. She’d mentioned that prolonged exposure to silver would cause a rash and even if she were older than most vampires, and well-weathered against many of the things that would seriously wound younger ones, he knew it had to be causing discomfort to her.
As she chewed silently, he leaned over, turning his head away so his family couldn’t see his lips moving and whispered, “Is your hand, okay?”
She pressed a hand to her mouth as she swallowed and nodded. “I’m alright,” she replied too-cheerfully for his liking. “Thank you for asking.”
“Is something wrong, (Y/N)?” Dick questioned and they both looked at him.
She smiled and shook her head. “Oh no, I’m alright. I just had a bit of a…womanly pain before I came here earlier.” She sipped her wine. “Jason had some ibuprofen in his glove compartment and gave it to me.” Leaning over, she pressed her lips to his cheekbone, leaving a dark, wine red lip print. “He’s just worried about me.”
While his brothers snickered, Jason glared at his plate, incapable of stopping the crimson spreading over his cheeks. “You’re gonna pay for this later,” he muttered under his breath and she merely smiled in return.
“So, Richard—”
“Please, (Y/N),” he grinned. “Call me Dick.”
“Of course. Jason told me you used to work at the Blüdhaven Police Department. I remember the talent you possessed while working for Haly’s Circus.” Her eyes bore into his and Jason was slightly worried they’d see the auburn behind the green contact lenses. “Did you ever consider a career in gymnastics? I’m sure someone as talented as you could’ve been an Olympic gymnast.”
Dick nodded, setting down his glass of water. “I did compete in some tournaments growing up, but I guess I’ve always had the desire to serve the public. Guess BPD was the closest I could get.”
(Y/N) smiled wholeheartedly at him. “A noble desire, indeed, Dick. I’ve no doubt the family around you is proud of your accomplishments.” His cheeks tinted pink, and he looked down at his plate, murmuring a quiet ‘thank you’, and she glanced at Tim.
“Jason’s spoken quite a lot about you as well, Timot—Tim. He says when Bruce isn’t working at Wayne Enterprises, you act as the CEO.”
Tim glanced up from the souffle, cheeks stuffed, and immediately flushed as he swallowed the food in his mouth. “Uh, yes. I do.” He coughed a bit. “It’s, uh, no big deal.”
Her eyes widened and she leaned forward a bit. “No big deal? That company has so many different branches and subsidiaries! You say no big deal but keeping track of every one is a feat all on its own!” (Y/N) shot him a knowing look and winked. “I bet you’re wicked smart though, hmm? Genius level and you could do it with your eyes closed, can’t you?”
He didn’t say anything, but the small curve of his lips told her all she needed to know, and when she turned her gaze on Damian, he simply rolled his eyes. “Is it my turn for the foolish flattery?” he deadpanned, and Jason gripped the edge of the table.
“Be nice,” he warned darkly and (Y/N) inconspicuously rested her hand on his thigh, squeezing gently.
“I guess you saw through me, huh Damian?” she questioned, and he scoffed, slouching enough in his chair to tell her he was bored.
“Richard isn’t a career cop and Timothy works with Lucius who is the actual CEO.” His evergreen eyes narrowed. “Even you would scrape the barrel for those compliments.”
When Jason’s thigh started tensing, she tightened her grip and smirked. “Rapiers or katanas?”
“Katanas,” he glared. “Cutlasses or scimitars?”
“Cutlass,” (Y/N) replied. “Easier to use in close quarters.”
“Hand to hand mastery?”
“I’d like to say I can hold my own but I’m certain you’d wipe the floor with me,” she teased, and he smirked for a split second then it was gone.
“One last question,” he muttered. “Cats or dogs?”
(Y/N) leaned forward and whispered, “Why limit yourself to just the two?”
For a moment they simply stared at each other, then Damian glanced at Jason. “She’s acceptable.”
“Happy to get your approval,” Jason griped, and she patted his thigh quietly.
“Well, Ifor one am happy to have it,” she finalized, and shifted when Alfred pulled the souffle out of her way and placed down the main course. “Thank you, Mister Alfred.”
He smiled warmly at her. “You’re most welcome, Miss (Y/N).” he placed the other dishes around the table, explaining, “Tonight’s dish is grilled pheasant with a juniper berry and rosemary sauce, accompanied by roasted potatoes and brussels sprouts.”
She watched the others pick up their forks and start eating but her hesitance kept her from it. Juniper wasn’t poisonous to her, but it would weaken her considerably to the effects of fire. She could feel her lungs begin to tighten as she stared at the grilled bird drizzled in the burgundy sauce. All she had to do was pick up her fork and put it in her mouth and smile through it, but she couldn’t manage to do it.
“Never had pheasant before, (Y/N)?”
Her head shot up and she gaped at Bruce who had a knowing look as he cut into it with his knife. “What?” she said, just shy of shocked.
He chuckled. “The first time Alfred made this, I wouldn’t eat it because it smelled funny.” Bruce’s steely blue eyes found hers and he smiled. “I promise it tastes better than it smells.”
(Y/N) gave him a tight smile and nodded. “Sorry, I don’t mean to be awkward.”
“No worries, Miss (Y/N),” Alfred replied. “I would be alright with making you something else, if you wish.”
He started reaching for her plate and her eyes widened as she shook her head. “What? No!” the family stared at her and she felt her cheeks warm. She inhaled and cleared her throat. “Please don’t, Mister Alfred, I’ll eat it.”
(Y/N) cut into it quickly and stuck a piece in her mouth, ignoring the burning sensation rolling over her tongue as she chewed, and down her throat as she swallowed.
She let her eyes widen again and she made a show of gaping at the plate then back to him. “Oh wow! That’s fantastic!” she huffed a laugh an embarrassed laugh. “Of course, I’d be worried about something I never tried.”
Alfred chuckled, as did the others, though Jason knew something was wrong by the way she winced with every bite, but he didn’t voice his concern for fear of letting them know her secret.
***
(Y/N) stifled a yawn behind her hand and he glanced over. “Tired?”
She nodded. “Just a bit, but I’m alright.”
Jason shook his head. “We can go to bed if we want.”
“But the house is—oh you mean stay here?” she questioned, and he nodded. “But I don’t want to put anyone out.”
“You’re more than welcome to stay here, (Y/N),” Bruce said. “I’d be a horrible father and host if I said get out.”
Laughing, she nodded her head and met Jason’s eyes. “Are you?” He nodded and started pushing back his chair.
“We’re gonna go to bed,” he commented, holding out his hand to her.
She took it and stood to her feet, pushing in her chair behind her, then she looked at his family. “Thank you for inviting me for dinner. It and the conversation were wonderful.” The others smiled and waved, watching as Jason led her out of the dining room and down the hall.
When they were far enough away, he spun around and took her face in his hands. “Are you okay?”
(Y/N) shook her head. “I need to get to a bathroom. I’m going to be sick.”
Jason nodded and pulled her up the stairs. “My bedroom is on the farthest end of the manor. No one will hear you.” He shot a worried look back at her. “What was it?”
“The juniper sauce,” she groaned, putting the back of her hand to her mouth as her stomach churned uncomfortably. “It weakens my ability to resist fire.” She suddenly stopped, leaning against the wall, and Jason gaped as her skin flushed with red swirls, all the way from her face to her toes.
He wasted no time, immediately picking her up in his arms as he all but sprinted to his bedroom, shoving the door open with his hip. (Y/N) saw the bathroom in the corner of the room and rolled out of his arms, almost gliding to the bathroom—he barely saw her move, like flash steps—in one place one moment in another the next.
She slammed the door behind her, and he closed his bedroom door as he heard the toilet seat shove open, and she began retching. Jason felt terrible as he locked the door and made his way to the bathroom, listening to her. He also felt very disturbed because he’d never heard such violent convulsing.
“Are you okay, (Y/N)?” he worried. “Can I do anything?”
A low groan followed by another round of vomiting sounded from inside and she grunted, “I’d ask for—ngh—clean blood but…but I just have to—oh Divines—ride out the effect.”
Jason didn’t like that answer. “Give me something to do, doll. I feel horrible.”
“It’s not your—ugh—fault, darling,” she hissed. “Just—just get in bed and wait for me.”
(Y/N) went silent after that and he was still beside himself about her, but at least she wasn’t puking anymore, and Jason heaved a sigh, moving away from the door to sit on the bed, eyes still trained on the bathroom.
***
It was almost three full hours before the bedroom door opened and he shot up, eyes wide but still hazy from sleep. Jason hadn’t realized he’d fallen asleep.
(Y/N) thrust a thumb back towards the bathroom. “I borrowed an extra toothbrush and your mouthwash,” she muttered. “I hope you don’t mind.”
He shook his head, holding out his arms and she walked to him, letting him wrap them around her legs as she rested her hands on his shoulders.
“Are you feeling better now?” he questioned, eyebrows pulled in concern and she offered a smile that looked a lot like a grimace.
“I’d prefer to avoid any flames for the time being, but yes, I’m much better now.”
Jason lowered his head. “I’m so sorry, (Y/N). I didn’t know that juniper was poisonous to you.”
This time she did smile as she crawled into his lap, letting him bury his face in her shoulder. “You didn’t know, Jason.”
“I should’ve,” he mumbled, words muffled against her sweater. “I should know by now what’s going to harm you.”
(Y/N) sighed and pulled back, stifling a giggle when he whined from the loss of contact. “Look at me, Jason,” she murmured, and he did albeit shamefully. “I can be harmed by anything that you can be. Gunshots, stab wounds, physical attacks,” she shrugged. “Food is not so much a touchy subject. The things that make me ill are far, few, and in between.”
She placed a hand on his cheek. “It just so happens that juniper is one of those things, but it’s not your fault and neither is it anyone else’s. Things just happen sometimes.”
He took a moment to absorb her words, then he asked quietly, “…Are you sure you’re feeling better?”
(Y/N) gazed at him, and something in her eyes made his body flush with desire and she suddenly grinned. “I can show you if you’d like?” Rather than waiting for a response, she slipped off his lap and sunk to her knees in front of him and Jason’s legs automatically spread to accommodate her. She giggled. “I guess you know where this is going, darling?”
“I think and I very much hope it is,” he agreed, heart fluttering, watching with enjoyment as she placed her hands on his thighs and shoved them farther.
“Take your pants off,” she commanded lowly, and Jason was scrambling for his belt buckle, then shimmying out of his jeans. (Y/N) gave an amused hum. “I’ve half a mind to make a joke about how obedient you are.”
“You’re a woman worthy of my obedience, (Y/N),” he replied simply before stripping his shirt staring down at her on her knees for him.
She chuckled and biting at his thigh. “I’m worthy of a lot,” she retorted. “Much more when I was back in my homeland.”
“Did you sit on a throne and rule over the people?” he questioned, grunting when she dug her fingers underneath the seam of his boxers.
(Y/N) leaned up, lips brushing his ear as she whispered, “Oh darling, I was the most powerful being alive. There was nothing I didn’t have.” She shoved him back so that he was propped up on his elbows and she pressed kisses to his chest, nipping her way down his body until she got to his groin.
Jason was already hard, and she curled her fingers in his boxers and tugged them down and off when he lifted his hips. She took his length in her hand and gave him a tug, smirking when his hips jumped, a grunt escaping him, then she stilled, and he gaped at her.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, voice straining as he barely kept himself from thrusting into her grip.
“Oh, I’m simply waiting for you to tell me what you want.” (Y/N) responded with a pleasant smile and he scowled.
“Isn’t that a little obvious?” he retorted, inhaling when she nipped at his thigh.
“What? You mean the way your cock is standing at attention for me?” she rolled her eyes “I had no idea.”
Jason growled and cocked a leg up, nudging her behind. “I want your mouth, (Y/N).”
“Say please,” she cooed, shifting her hand so she could run her thumb up the thick vein that ran the length of him.
He groaned and briefly shut his eyes as she applied pressure. “Please, (Y/N).”
“Just a little more, darling,” she murmured, nipping the juncture of his thigh and pelvis.
“(Y/N), please, put those pretty lips on my cock and suck me,” he begged, and Jason’s eyes went wide when she obeyed, taking his head in her mouth. “Fuck,” he cursed, expression contorting with pleasure as she dipped her tongue into his slit, her hand starting to move on his length.
She hummed and his back arched as the vibrations went straight through his cock, then she flattened her tongue and took him into her mouth as far as she could.
“Oh shit, (Y/N),” he breathed, and shifted one of his arms, curling his hand around her head. Jason groaned as her jaw went slack and he tugged her, watching her head bob up and down.
Hollowing her cheeks, she pulled back and kept his head in her mouth while her hand slicked up and down his cock.
“(Y/N),” he purred, and she met his teal eyes. “Touch yourself for me, doll.” He let out a moan when he saw her free hand disappear between her thighs. Jason couldn’t see but when he heard her muffled gasp and felt her knees spread, hitting his ankles, he knew she was.
“Are your fingers inside?” he questioned, and she hummed, bobbing her head as she pushed her digits in herself. “Imagining my cock instead?”
Her eyes found his and he saw the desire clouded with irritation—Jason did get cocky when it came to sex. (Y/N) lifted her head and swirled her tongue around the head of his length, sucking sharply and his hips jerked, as he let out a startled moan.
“Right there, doll. Right there.” Jason moved his hand and cupped her cheek, pressing his thumb against his head when it poked the side of her mouth. “I wanna know what lucky bastard you practiced on to get this good,” he praised. “Fuck, your mouth is talented.” She smirked around his cock and tongued his slit again. “I’m gonna come of you keep doing that, doll.”
He immediately realized that was horrible to tell her because with her track record, she would’ve started teasing him, but evidently, she wasn’t in the mood too because she did it again. And again. And again. Until Jason’s hips were rising off the bed and he was whimpering quiet little, “Yes, yes, yeses.”
And the warmth spread across her tongue, bitter, but she groaned and swallowed him, all the while Jason’s eyes were screwed shut, toes curling as the tightness in his gut suddenly snapped.
(Y/N) pulled away when he moaned lowly and he watched her press her cheek to his thigh, staring up at him with glazed eyes as she panted and he reached down, caressing her cheek.
“You did so well, doll. It’s your turn, please.” He pleaded, thumbing her lip and she took it in her mouth, sucking it. Jason’s gut stirred again, and he begged, “Come on your fingers, (Y/N). All over them. Come for me.”
He watched her go still, then shudder with a pitched whine against his leg before she collapsed against him with a heavy breath. They caught their beath, then she rose and climbed onto the bed, lying beside him.
For a moment, they were silent, then he commented, “That was incredible.”
(Y/N) giggled and turned her head, kissing his shoulder. “Tell me about it.”
She sighed, feeling sleep calling to her and he murmured, “Tired?”
“A bit,” she answered. “I might be more resistant to things because of my age, but I definitely notice that I recover slower.” She shimmied out of her pants and sweater before crawling up to the covers.
Jason followed, slipping underneath with her, and he pulled (Y/N) into his arms, lifting the sheet and comforter over them.
“Sleeping it off can’t hurt, huh?”
She snorted halfheartedly, already feeling her eyelids drooping as she propped her head on his shoulder, nose brushing against his neck. “That’s how I’ve dealt with…a lot of my problems.”
He chuckled. “Same here, doll.” Jason kissed her forehead. “I love you.”
“I love you more,” (Y/N) murmured, and he felt her breathing even out against his throat moments later.
***Chapter Seven***
The werewolf hadn’t shown up in a month, and while the citizens of Gotham had celebrated by returning to the nightlife, like the idiots they were, Jason and his family knew otherwise that it was still out there, waiting for another hunt. At least, that’s what (Y/N) had told him, and he believed her more than anything though even she herself was concerned about how quiet the nights had become, and he’d gotten more than comfortable patrolling with her following close behind in the shadows, usually invisible to avoid detection.
Jason knew she was using him as bait for the Lycan, waiting for it, to see if it would try attacking him. Had it been anyone other than her, he would’ve said hell no, but he knew (Y/N) was always watching him and his surroundings, and there was no one he trusted more to watch his six than her.
That being said, she wasn’t with him that night, a call from one of the council members had finally come and she’d stayed behind to discuss a course of action, leaving Jason to patrol his portion of the city alone. He was fine alone but (Y/N) insisted that Nevermore come with him just in case; he agreed when she shot him that firm glare and he couldn’t help but cave, sighing when the raven pecked at his helmet, sitting atop his shoulder pads.
***
Jason stood on the ledge of the clocktower, staring out at the large expanse of city before him. Usually, he knew where to start but right now he kept running the “If-I-Were-Blank-Where-Would-I-Hide?” question, wondering where a werewolf would be—it wasn’t in the sewers, they’d checked multiple times.
He sighed just as the sound of boots came behind him and he glanced over his shoulder, seeing Nightwing and Red Robin coming his way. “Hey,” he muttered, going back to the city.
“You’ve been up here for like thirty minutes, Hood. The city isn’t going to patrol itself.” Nightwing commented. “Something on your mind?”
He shrugged. “Trying to think where it’s hiding.”
“The werewolf?” Red Robin questioned, though it sounded rhetorical.
“Yeah,” he replied. “All this city space and one giant beast. You’d think we’d be able to find it.”
“Maybe it got shot with a silver bullet?” Nightwing offered. “Or taken up by animal control?”
Red Robin snickered but Jason merely raised his arm and whistled, waiting while his brothers stared at him like he had three heads.
A low croak sounded above, and they watched as the raven fluttered and perched on his wrist. “Find anything?” he asked it and the bird turned its head and shook it. “Damn,” Jason cursed and fished around in his pocket for a treat. “Keep a lookout would you, bud?” The raven cawed and took off into the night sky once more.
“Was that a crow?” Nightwing asked, blinking in shock and Jason bristled.
“He’s a raven. Name’s Nevermore.”
“Where’d you find a trained raven?” Red Robin quizzed with wonder.
Jason glanced at him. “He’s (Y/N)’s.”
Nightwing’s jaw went slack. “She’s—she’s got a raven?”
“And a wolfdog, two cats, and a Neapolitan Mastiff named Fang.” He looked at his eldest brother. “The little demon-spawn would keel over if he met them.”
“Wait, if Nevermore’s (Y/N)’s raven…and he’s with you…does that mean…?” Red Robin trailed off and Jason nodded.
“Yeah, she figured out pretty quick actually,” he remarked. “She’s a lot more than what she lets on.”
“What? Is she like us?” Nightwing joked, Red Robin cackling along and Jason turned his head.
“(Y/N) outclasses every one of us. Especially Bruce. In every way. And I’m not saying that because I’m her boyfriend. I’m saying it as warrior who knows she’s my better.” It was all he said before diving off the ledge, shouting, “Have fun patrolling your sectors, losers!”
***
It had come out of nowhere during the evening and knocked him out of mid-grapple before he’d even realized what it was. Jason rolled along the rooftop a couple times before he slammed into the barrier with a pained grunt. Gravel scattered across the roof and he looked up, seeing the werewolf hunched over on all fours, saliva dripping from its jowls as it growled, and he felt his stomach clench in fear.
“Ah crap,” he hissed quietly and slowly got to his feet, all the while the beast started edging towards him.
A sharp cry echoed above and stupidly, he looked up to see Nevermore. It was all the time the creature needed, lurching forward with a snarl.
Jason brought his arm up as the werewolf’s clawed hand came down at him. It tore through his brown leather jacket like it was a wet napkin, and he thanked God that (Y/N) had taken it upon herself to reforge most of his body-armor plates because when the creature’s nails raked across his wrist guard, it sparked viciously, but didn’t shear.
He cocked his leg out and hit the beast in the stomach as hard as he could, shouting, “Nevermore! Go get her!”
Another cry sounded above, and Jason prayed that he had the strength to hold out as the Lycan came back his way.
***
She rubbed at her temples and resisted the urge to slam her head into the wall for what seemed like the millionth time. “I know, Alexander,” she griped. “I know what the council designations are. I fucking wrote them. What I want to know is when are you imbeciles going to contact the Lycan Alliance Colony in Virginia so we can figure out who the hell is in Gotham.”
The vampire on the line sighed. It’s not that simple, (Y/N), and you know it.
“Not that sim—Alexander, all you have to do is pick up the fucking phone and contact the chambers. Then you meet and acknowledge the problem and contact the LAC in Virginia. How hard is that?”
It’s time consuming, (Y/N). We’ve already got—
“WE ARE IMMORTAL! WE HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD!” (Y/N) screeched. “I CANNOT KILL THIS WEREWOLF UNTIL THE LCA IS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THEY’VE LOST ONE!” Her blood boiled. “INNOCENT PEOPLE AR BEING MURDERED, ALEXANDER! I CANNOT WAIT FOREVER!” Silence was all she heard for a moment after her tirade.
I will contact Lady Heady and Lord Bartholomew and see what we can fit into our schedules.
(Y/N) bit her tongue so hard it bled and before she could speak, something flapped against her living room window, frantic squawking following. She put the phone down, ignoring the vampire’s calls and opened the window, gaping at Nevermore who was still cawing wildly.
“Nevermore!” she shouted, trying to calm him. “It’s alright! What’s the matter?”
He hopped repeatedly along the window ledge and croaked, pointing his beak back towards where he’d flown and she bent forward, smelling his feathers—its blunt scent invaded her senses and she recoiled with a hiss.
“Where is it?” (Y/N) demanded, deathly quiet.
Nevermore answered her with a squawk and she grabbed the window ledge, her skin turning that dark gargoyle shade as her fingernails grew, scratching the wooden frame, and her eyes glowed a bright crimson.
***
Jason’s back hit the edge of the roof, knocking the wind out of him, and he collapsed into the gravel. He pitched forward, catching himself on his hands while he coughed harshly, blood splattering across the rocks. His left arm had already gone numb from blocking every swipe and his right leg was bleeding in three different places; he was sure he’d broken multiple ribs too; maybe his sternum, but in the grand scheme of things, Jason was lucky the werewolf hadn’t disemboweled him yet.
A growl made his head cock up and his breathing stuttered as the beast came around for another swipe. He tried to climb to his feet, but he couldn’t. He’d wasted way too much stamina blocking and waiting the fight out, and now he had nothing left. His body was too tired to keep moving. He was going to get ripped to shreds all the while mentally aware.
Jason’s eyes went wide as it got within striking distance, and a blur of gray overtook his vision and the most vicious snarl he’d ever heard filled his ears. He watched as the blur suddenly expanded and in the light of the city, he saw the full-bodied, gray wings stretched out before him. He thought it was Bruce at first. The points of the wings were sharp and black, and Jason saw the muscled legs beneath them, just as he looked up and saw the white-haired head snarl again, baring its razor-sharp teeth.
His eyes darted to the werewolf who was coming back to strike. The creature let it come, dodging the arm before it struck back, a single slash with its long, black-clawed hand and the beast recoiled with a cry of pain, bright red blood flowing down its face. The clawed hand dropped something, and Jason gaped as one of the werewolf’s yellow eyeballs bounced; it was quickly squashed into mush by the creature who screeched one last time and the Lycan turned tail and fled, outmatched, and wounded.
When it was clear, the winged being turned and Jason shifted back just a hair as he came face to face with the ashen gray creature. His breath caught in his throat as he took in the facial features, gaunt skin pulled taut over high cheekbones, nose flat and pointed with wide nostrils, brow bone full over its eerie crimson eyes. His gaze lowered to the thin-lipped, open mouth and he stared at the pointed teeth and canines.
“Jason,” it boomed, voice like thunder, and knelt, clawed hands reaching out. He wanted to move away but couldn’t, and when the ice-cold palm touched his cheek and its eyes narrowed in what looked like concern, suddenly he realized.
“(Y/N)?” he whispered, and she nodded, placing her other palm to his cheek.
“I got here as soon as Nevermore called,” she replied, then looked down his body. “Divines, Jason. We—I have to get you somewhere safe.” She moved, one arm curling under his legs, the other his back and she lifted him like he weighed nothing.
He let his head rest on the frigid gold metal covering her shoulder, but it was nothing compared to the relief he felt now that he was safe. “Held out as long as I could,” he groaned, and she stepped up onto the ledge before spreading her wings out.
“You did well, darling,” she praised. “I’m proud of you despite my fear.”
Her voice sounded so distorted from its usual one, but Jason wasn’t bothered—this was still (Y/N), just another form. She took off the ledge in the opposite direction of her home and he inhaled sharply when he went weightless, her heavy wings beating around them.
“I have you, Jason. You will not fall,” (Y/N) affirmed. “Rest darling, you will need it.”
Far be it from him to disobey a request like that, especially with how exhausted he was, and the last thing he remembered was comforting beat of her wings, and the soothing timbre of her voice.
***
The sound of calmly running water woke him and when he came to, Jason felt like he was laying on a bed of stone. When he turned his head and looked beside him, he realized he was laying on a bed of stone. With a groan, he pushed himself up and glanced down at his body as the blanket covering him fell down. He was still in his undergarments, but he had no stiches or scars and he wondered if (Y/N) had used her magic to heal him this time.
At the thought of her he looked around, eyes widening at the amazement surrounding him. He sat on a stone bed surrounded by ankle deep water in the middle of what looked like a natural waterfall. Ivy grew along the walls of the cavern and he saw the moon shining on him from a hole in the ceiling. It felt like one of those ethereal places you only ever dreamed of discovering.
Drawing his eyes down, he saw (Y/N) sitting at the end of the stone bed, no longer in her other form, her legs crossed beneath her, eyes closed. Her hands were resting on her knees, palms up and he watched the purple magic swirl between them, like the northern lights, and Jason took a moment to just gaze at her. She looked beautiful. Peacefully beautiful.
He reached for her. “(Y/N).”
Even though his voice was a whisper, her ember eyes snapped open, and the purple spell faded as she breathed, “You’re awake.”
Jason blinked. “I thought you were meditating or something?”
(Y/N) shook her head and inched forward so she could sit next to him. “I was spellcasting while you recovered.”
“What spell?”
“A life detection spell. I wanted to make sure nothing came here while you slept.” She raised a hand and brushed it through his hair before sighing, “Thank the Divines you’re alright. I—I was so scared when I got you here.” Her hand moved to his face, cupping his cheek.
Jason reached up and cradled her hand to his face. “Did something happen?”
“You had already slipped unconscious, and I was worried you were losing too much blood internally.” Her thumb twitched against his skin. “I pooled all my magic into my Restoration spells and healed you for the better part of two hours.” She gazed at him. “Are you hurting anywhere?”
He shook his head. “Nowhere, (Y/N). I feel great, in fact. Like I’ve lost aches I didn’t know I had.”
She returned his quip with a halfhearted smile. “Yes, that’s the power of Restoration healing.”
“But you don’t seem very happy about that.” He commented and she shook her head.
“You were almost murdered because I wasn’t with you and the werewolf got away.”
Jason wrapped his free arm around her waist and pulled her to him, laying back on the stone bed. She laid her cheek against his bare chest, her hand flat against his heart. “(Y/N), you got there in time. That’s all that matters to me,” he murmured as he rubbed her back.
“But you were hurt.”
“You healed me.”
“The werewolf still got away.”
“Then we’ll find it again,” he countered and propped his arm behind his head, gazing at her. “You scratched it’s eyeball out and it bled. There’s DNA on that rooftop we can use to track it with.” He smiled. “For someone who hasn’t done this in a while, you proved you’ve still got it.”
(Y/N) exhaled through her nose, but she cracked a smile. “Thank you, Jason.”
He hummed. “Always, doll.” He kneaded his fingers into her flesh, asking, “Did you learn anything when you were fighting it?”
“I did,” she said. “I’m falling on intuition here, but I think it’s feral.”
“Feral? Like wild?” Jason made a face. “They are wild werewolves?”
(Y/N) snorted. “Indeed, there are.” She propped her chin on his chest and looked at him. “Vampirism and Lycanthropy are quite different when it comes to actually being the creature you become. Vampires completely transform—we’re no longer humans. But werewolves are still humans, they just have the wolf spirit inside.”
“So what? They call on the spirit to transform?”
“Mhm. When you take on the wolf form for the first time you call on the wolf spirit, but some can’t separate the animal from themselves and eventually go feral. Trapped. Lost forever.”
His eyes narrowed like he was figuring something out. “Sounds like you’re speaking from personal experience.”
(Y/N) nodded. “At the time that I accepted the gift of vampirism, I was a werewolf, but Harkon’s blood purged it from my body.”
“The way you talk about him makes him seem like some overlord who was in power because he was the greatest vampire. Was he like a pureblood or something?”
She shook her head. “No. Harkon wasn’t a pureblood, but he did get his vampirism straight from Molag Bal and not another vampire like the ones in his court.”
Jason’s brows furrowed. “Who the hell is Molag Bal?”
Her mouth opened, then it snapped shut and she tipped her head side to side. “Okay, this won’t make sense unless I explain it completely.” He gestured for her to continue. “So, in my realm there are two types of deities which we worship. The first are called Aedra, which roughly translates to ‘our ancestors’, and they are essentially the Gods that created the lands and everything. In the most common pantheon, there are eight Aedra: Akatosh, Arkay, Dibella, Julianos, Kynareth, Mara, Stendarr, and Zenithar. Each correlate with some type of virtue: beauty, love, time, fortune, fortitude, you get the point.”
(Y/N) took a breath. “The second kind of deity are called Daedra and that translates to ‘not our ancestors’. They’re typically viewed as evil and worshiping them out in public is not a good idea. Daedra worshipers are very secretive about their beliefs for fear of persecution. I have witnessed it firsthand,” She admitted. “There are seventeen Daedric deities and they are: Azura, Boethiah, Clavicus Vile, Hermaeus Mora, Hircine, Jyggalag, Malacath, Mehrunes Dagon, Mephala, Meridia, Molag Bal, Namira, Nocturnal, Peryite, Sanguine, Sheogorath, and Vaermina.”
“Who did you worship out of both?”
“When it came to Aedra, I really only followed one deity and that was Akatosh. I was—am blessed with great power and called, ‘Dragonborn’. My body is normal, but my soul is that of a dragon. I can speak their tongue and do lots of other weird shit I’ll tell you later. But Akatosh divinely gifted me the soul and blood of a dragon so I hold him in reverence.”
“Is that why you always say ‘Divines’?” he questioned, and she nodded. “That explains a lot.”
(Y/N) snorted. “When it came to the Daedra however, it’s hard to exist in my realm and not at some point interact with them. They like messing with people, it’s…their nature to change things.” She tipped her head. “I’ve talked to them all, met four in person. I personally reverenced Azura, Meridia, Nocturnal, Sanguine, and sometimes Sheogorath, but honestly that fucker is balls to the walls crazy.”
Jason chuckled. “Sounds like he’d fit right in with Gotham.”
“Oh, he would, absolutely,” she agreed. “But, to answer your original question, Molag Bal is a Daedric Prince who is revered as the Lord of Domination and Enslavement. He is also the father of all vampires, though the first woman was…not a willing participant of the process.” He fell silent at her words. “He raped her and left her for dead. Legend has it that he shed one drop of blood on her brow and when a tribe found her, they tried to heal her, but she appeared to have died. They made her a funeral pyre and lit it.”
(Y/N) frowned. “She walked out of the flames as the first pureblooded vampire and in a fit of rage, slaughtered the nomads, ripping the women’s throats out, feasting on the children’s eyeballs, and raping the men.” Her voice quieted. “She became known as the first ‘Daughter of Coldharbour’.”
Her eyes found Jason’s and she could see the horror and revulsion within them; she didn’t blame him. “She is where vampirism descends from in my lands, unless Molag Bal grants it instead.”
Jason took a long moment to speak, and when he did, his voice was almost a whisper. “You said she was the first? Were…were there more?”
(Y/N) nodded. “A tradition grew amongst his worshippers where on his invocation day, the females of the cults would be offered to him. The women lucky enough to survive emerge as pureblood vampires and henceforth referred to as ‘Daughters of Coldharbour.” Her eyes darkened. “My friend, Serana, who was Harkon’s daughter…was one. As was her mother. They both were a part of the ceremony.”
“They did so willingly?”
She couldn’t help but shrug. “They were his followers and being selected to participate in the ritual was held in great honor and not something that was rejected lightly. Knowing Harkon…Serana and her mom didn’t have a choice but to accept it. Though Serana told me all I needed to know about the ceremony. It was degrading and agonizing, and she didn’t want to revisit it.”
They fell silent and Jason mulled a question on his tongue that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to ask or not until she whispered, “You can ask me whatever it is you wish to, Jason.”
His hand tightened on her back. “Did you…are you a…”
“A Daughter of Coldharbour?” he nodded, and she shook her head. “No. Even if Molag Bal had ever personally requested my presence I would never accept.” Her eyes darkened with a hatred so cold, Jason almost shivered. “If Daedric Princes could be killed, I’d’ve stomped into his domain and slaughtered him for everyone he’s hurt.”
(Y/N) stared into his eyes. “Are you relieved I’m not one?”
Jason’s expression filled with agony. “No, it’s…the thought that you could’ve endured such an event just…makes me—it makes me—”
She cut him off by leaning up and pressing a kiss to his lips. “I know,” she murmured. “I know Jason…and thank you.”
Pulling away enough to gaze at her, he breathed, “I love you, (Y/N). More than you will ever know.”
“I love you most,” she promised, resting her head back on his chest. “Rest, darling. We can both still rest until the morning.”
***Chapter Eight***
Jason hadn’t spoken to Bruce about the incident with the werewolf, knowing that it would also involve (Y/N)’s secret too. Instead, they both started their own tracking of the Lycan in addition to the normal route patrolling. Apparently as well, in her haste to get to him that night, she’d grabbed a bottle of wolfsbane too and applied it to her claws. Its healing capabilities would be slowed down considerably, and she’d assured Jason that the wound she’d given it would take at least a month of healing meaning they’d have some time to do more tracking.
It also happened that the monthlong wait fell in time with Bruce’s annual Wayne Charity Gala, and while Jason had been planning on inviting (Y/N) to it, the continual pestering from his brothers almost made him keep his mouth shut and skip it entirely. They were just as captivated by her as he was—he wasn’t sure how to feel about that, but the night was young, and (Y/N)’d yet to arrive.
***
He sipped the golden champagne from his chute and ignored the urge to cold cock Dick who was practically stuck to his side.
“C’mon, Jason!” he whined. “Please tell me you invited (Y/N)!”
Following the crowd silently, he waited patiently for her head to pop in the crowd.
“Richard, you are embarrassing yourself and the family,” Damian muttered. “Todd invited her. Relax.”
“Or he didn’t because we scared her off,” Tim remarked, grinning when Jason’s gaze narrowed at the statement.
Of course, that set Dick off again and after the fifth whine, Jason reached over and gripped his eldest brother’s bowtie, crumpling it and his collar in a white-knuckle grab as he hissed, “For the last time, she’s coming. Now quit fucking badgering me and go do something useful with your useless self before I lose my goddamn patience and shove this chute up yours.”
Dick choked slightly, grinning, “Think that’ll fit up my chute?” His brothers snickered and Jason glared and let him go. He straightened out his collar and bowtie. “Just making sure you did, Little-wing.”
“Why?” Jason quizzed, exasperation evident in his tone as he glared at him. “Last time I checked, (Y/N)’s my girlfriend.”
“Well yeah,” Dick started, glancing around the room. “But we’ve only seen her that once and you haven’t brought…her…” he trailed off, jaw slacking, and he slapped the back of his hand against Jason’s chest. “Jason,” Dick breathed. “Look.”
Jason followed his brother’s gaze to the main entrance of the event and suddenly, his brother’s odd mood shift made sense because he too went slack jawed as (Y/N) stepped into the ballroom, head high and shoulders squared like she the main event herself.
(Y/N) wore a strapless gown that looked like she pulled it straight out of Gone With The Wind, red fabric and black laced up to her chest where it split across and around her arms. There were little gold chains dangling from the arm cuffs and she wore elbow length black silk gloves.
He trailed his eyes up her bare collarbones to her face and neck where she had a black velvet choker wrapped tight around her neck, a garnet the size of his pinky resting in a gold plate, dangling off it. Her lips were a deep wine red, and her eyelids were painted elegantly with black and gold eyeshadow, topped off with perfectly drawn eyeliner and dramatic eyelashes.
Everyone in the room was spellbound by her and Jason’s feet were moving before he knew what was happening, heading straight to her. She saw him coming and her dark lips split into a pearly white smile, making his knees go weak and he almost fell at her feet. Not that that seemed like a terrible idea because from the glares of the women and the hot-eyed stares from the men around, he wasn’t the only one who wanted to drop to his knees and worship her. Something tight pooled in his gut at the thought.
(Y/N) held out her hand and watched with amusement as he took it and pressed his lips to her knuckles. “Good boy,” she murmured, and he felt that tightness again as he pulled away.
“(Y/N), you look…” he shook his head, unable to find the words.
“Beautiful?” she offered, and Jason swallowed.
“That and everything more,” he whispered, and she laughed, sending shivers down his spine.
“I’d love to hear them all, darling.” She stepped towards him and grazed his cheek with the back of her hand before sealing his lips in a kiss that had his whole body flushing as gasps echoed around them. But he didn’t give a damn—he was too busy being seduced by the woman in front of him.
(Y/N) pulled away and smirked at the look on his face. “Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten how to speak, Jason.”
He chuckled and held his arm out for her to take. “Not just yet, doll. But something tells me I will tonight.”
“Count on it,” she winked and rested her palm on his wrist, allowing him to escort her around.
“Everyone is staring at you,” he murmured as they walked towards his family. “I think it’s the dress.”
She didn’t make the show of glancing down, but she hummed. “You said formal, and this was as formal as I have.”
“Really? A corset and a period gown?”
“Don’t act like it doesn’t make you want to bend me over a table, darling. I saw your eyes when you gaped at me,” she retorted with a smile and he huffed.
“You saw that?”
“The way you lost all control of your facial features and body? Oh yes. I saw it all.”
Jason grunted though a smile was on his face as they met his family. “Mock my attraction to you at your own peril, (Y/N),” he threatened lowly, and she giggled.
“Oh, I tremblewith fear, darling,” she murmured, then lifted her hand for Bruce to take. “Bruce, it’s a pleasure to see you again. You look wonderful tonight.”
He chuckled and kissed her hand. “And you look radiant, (Y/N). I think you outshine us all.”
Her laugh was like tinkling chimes and she smiled at Dick who took her hand and kissed it too before tugging her forward just a bit. “Would you care to dance, (Y/N)?” he asked. “Someone as elegantly dressed as you must obviously know how to waltz as well.”
She shot a look at Jason who appeared to be fuming and if looks could’ve killed, Dick would’ve been dead and buried. “I’d love to dance, Dick,” she replied, letting him lead her to the dance floor.
“You look absolutely beautiful, (Y/N),” he flirted. “And all I’m really doing right now is seeing how pissed I can make Jason, so if you’d smile or laugh and play along, I’d love you forever and ever.”
(Y/N) giggled and he twirled them. “You are going to get punched in the face, you know that right?”
Dick smirked and leaned close into her ear. “Yeah, but it’s going to be so worth it.” He spun them again, so she was looking over his shoulder. “Look at him. He’s so jealous he’s practically spitting like an angry bull.”
She inconspicuously glanced in her lover’s direction and gave a rather unladylike snort at the sight. Jason stood beside Bruce with his fists clenched, jaw tight and she could see him grinding his teeth as his eyes narrowed on them.
“Hmm…I wonder who he’s going to be more upset with? Me or you?”
They glanced at each other and she said “Me” while Dick said “You”, then they both dissolved into laughter and she pressed her forehead against his shoulder to muffle her giggles.
As the song ended, they separated and Dick bowed while she curtsied and someone came up and said, “Pardon me, may I have this dance?”
Just as (Y/N) turned to excuse herself, a strong arm wrapped around her waist and tugged her backwards and she let out a quiet gasp as her back collided with someone’s equally strong chest. Turning her head, she saw Jason glaring daggers at both Dick and the new dancer.
“Fuck. Off.” he spat, and he watched the two scatter like they’d been shot.
“Darling,” (Y/N) purred, raising her hand to caress his jaw. “Don’t be so green.” Jason’s turquoise eyes lowered to hers and her stomach fluttered from the heated stare.
“I don’t want any other man touching you,” he growled, and she smirked.
“Trying to say I belong to you?”
His arm tightened around her waist. “Like I do to you.”
(Y/N) merely gazed at him before extending her arm across his chest, raising the other beside her breasts, whispering, “Tell me you have a song just for us, darling?”
Jason’s arm shifted to her hip as his free one took her hand in his larger one, giving her a heated stare. “Of course I do, doll. I think you’ll enjoy it.”
The music started and he took the first step, leading her and she barely managed to contain her startled laugh. “The Vampire Masquerade? Really, Jason?”
His lips brushed her ear as he pressed just behind and he murmured, “It’s fitting, don’t you think?” he spun her out and pulled her back, wrapping his arm around her waist as she placed hers on his shoulder.
“Fitting indeed,” she flirted. “But awfully bold to play in front of all these people.”
Jason stepped forwards and her backwards and as they danced, he said, “I like to think I’m bold about the woman I love.”
It felt like hours in just mere moments when the music began to pick up again, signaling the climax of the song and he inhaled deeply as her eyes narrowed in amusement, and suddenly they were twirling, each spin moving them faster and faster across the dancefloor. All eyes were on them, but they simply gazed into each other’s eyes.
“I’ve been thinking about something, (Y/N),” he said lowly.
She nodded. “Go on.”
“It’s about vampirism and…the idea of joining you.”
(Y/N)’s footing failed her, and she stumbled as the song ended on the final note of the cello, her eyes wide. “What?”
Jason glanced at the party then behind him towards the door leading down the steps to the garden. He turned and pulled her along, through the crowd and into the night. They hurried through the maze of bushes and ended up beneath a willow tree in the far corner of the grounds, the moon and stars hanging overhead. She didn’t know where to start and neither did he apparently, but she figured they had to do it somewhere and she stepped just out of reach.
“What you said in there, Jason…at the end?”
He glanced at her, gaze solemn. “Believe me when I say, I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, (Y/N).”
She inhaled deeply, taking in his words and she turned away, looking out at the garden. “Have you told your family about me?”
“No. Not just yet. I was waiting until you were ready.”
(Y/N) tipped her head side to side. “While I thank you for doing so, I don’t think this is a decision to make until we’ve revealed everything to them.”
“Why’s that?” Jason questioned, brows furrowing in confusion and she spun slowly.
“Jason, vampirism is a…a lifechanging transformation. Not just for the individual but for the people around them as well.” She shook her head. “No, I don’t think this conversation should be had right now until we tell your family the truth.”
He took her words in stride and reached out for her. She placed her hand in his and he took her into his arms, resting his chin on her head. “Would you want me to join you?”
(Y/N) was silent for a long time, then she murmured, “…More than anything Jason. But you’ve yet to really grasp the concept and all it entails.”
“What do you mean?”
“Vampirism isn’t just extended life and protection from disease and poison, darling. It’s…it’s watching every human in your life grow old and die while you remain young forever. It’s remembering every detail that plagues history while the books get it wrong. It’s watching the world go by while you remain frozen as you are.”
She pulled back to stare into his eyes. “Though I would love to be with you for all of time, I don’t want to witness your despair as you watched your family and friends pass on.”
Jason’s mouth opened then he closed it when he realized he didn’t have a thing to say, and she smiled knowingly. “Darling, we’ve all the time in the world to figure this out.” Raising a hand, she cupped his cheek. “Don’t decide on forever, right now.”
“But I want to be with you,” he insisted quietly, that firm look she loved dearly in his eyes again.
“And I you. But as I said, you still need to discuss this with them first.”
Whatever comeback he had was cut off by a croak and they both turned their heads upwards as a bird circled them.
“Nevermore?” she called, raising her arm and he flew down, perching on her wrist. “What’s a matter boy?” He squawked and (Y/N)’s gaze hardened. “Do you know where?” When he answered her, she lifted her arm. “Take flight and lead me,” she commanded already pulling from Jason’s arm to head for the thickly barred iron gate.
“(Y/N), what is it?” Jason asked and she spun on her heel, still heading to the gate.
“Nevermore saw the werewolf hunting the city.”
He was already moving back to the ballroom. “I’ll get the oth—”
“No.” she commanded, and he stopped, gaping at her as she said, “I will be the one to finish this tonight. And I alone.”
“(Y/N), you can’t be serious,” he argued, and she shot him a sharp stare.
“Jason. You almost died last time.” Her eyes narrowed dangerously. “I need to do this by myself.”
She was gone before he could say another word and he couldn’t help but stomp his foot into the ground and curse, “Shit.”
***
Finding it didn’t take long this time, less than two hours. Now that she had its scent, she had a straight path to it and even she was surprised at the location it was in—the same rooftop she’d fought it the first time on. She landed behind it and curled her wings around herself, watching as it sniffed around the rooftop.
“You’re not going to find your eye, Lycan,” she said, and it spun around, dropping to all fours as it snarled menacingly. (Y/N) merely gazed at it, taking in the pink scars across its face and the hollowed orbital socket. “Tell me who you are. I know your kind can speak in that form. Or are you feral?”
Again, it growled, and she tipped her chin up. “Couldn’t separate the man from the beast, hmm?” she challenged. “That happens when you’re weak and can’t control your own spirit.”
Something in her words set it off and it charged at her with a snarl. (Y/N) simply sidestepped when it came her way, safely avoiding the snapping jaw and it skidded in the gravel, spinning around to charge again.
“I would feel pity for you had you not murdered so many people.” Her eyes narrowed dangerously. “I bet you got cocky in whatever circle you were in. Thought you could handle the beast before you were trained well enough.”
The werewolf swiped at her, but she dodged each strike and sent back one of her own, slicing into its side like it was paper. Howling, the beast scampered back a bit.
“Who was it that gave you their blood to consume? Your friend? A lover? Or perhaps some younger, more naïve circle member?” She shot forward and shot her wing out, colliding with the wolf. “The worst kind of transformation is the kind where the participant is foolish and inexperienced.”
(Y/N) hissed when it bit at the flesh of her wing and she scratched its leg with the claws on her feet. “How many transformations were you in control? Three? And then you just lost all control as it took over and you couldn’t come back!”
She closed both wings then extended them with a powerful beat, knocking the werewolf back a few feet. Wasting no time, she pushed off with her foot and surged forward, one hand gripping the wolf’s neck, the other flat and pointed.
“Your curse ends tonight, Lycan.” (Y/N) struck out and felt the warmth bleed across her arm as she planted her hand in its chest. “May you find mercy in whatever plane you end up in.”
Yanking her hand back, its snarl died in its mouth and she let go, watching it fall to the ground, gurgling and bleeding before it stilled, going slack in the rocks. (Y/N) cast one last look at it then turned her eyes to the moon high in the night sky. Almost a whole year of chasing and searching for this werewolf and it’d taken less than an hour to end it.
“Such a waste,” she hissed and stepped away. “So many people murdered and—”
Something latched onto her back and she spun to see what it was when she felt it spread out and dig into her skin. She grunted and reached for whatever had pierced her when it shocked her violently.
(Y/N) screeched and spun around, reaching behind her but whatever it was, was too far down. It kept pulsing and each one got stronger after the other and as she stepped forwards, she suddenly tripped and collapsed onto the gravel. Looking down through the pain, she saw her legs tied together with some kind of tri-weave rope.
She reached down to cut it when another pulse split through her body and she bellowed, back arching, wings beating out. (Y/N) knew she had to get away and she crawled along her hands, dragging her tied legs towards the edge. She was almost there when another compressed shot came from behind and she found herself cocooned by her wings, shocks still pulsing her body.
Struggling, she screeched and hissed, hoping to scare off whatever it was when she heard, “I’ve got this.”
It sounded like Dick and before she could say anything, he pressed something against her spine and the worst of the electric shocks passed through her and she descended into darkness.
***Final Chapter***
When (Y/N) didn’t contact Jason within the few hours she had left, he started to worry. He started panicking when Nevermore didn’t come to find him either.
One of the great things about her house is that other than it being a magic house that was bigger on the inside, it was also enchanted, and people didn’t notice it, so she kept the door unlocked.
Jason burst through the door, startling Fang who had been sound asleep on the couch and part of him wanted to apologize but his concern overrode it. He sprinted through the house, shouting her name.
“(Y/N)!” he turned down the hall and ran to the studio. “Where are you!” it was empty and he cursed, checking both bedrooms before entering the study. She wasn’t there either.
The only place she could be was in the basement and he moved back to the hall closet, pulling the door open. Jason yanked the rug away from the hatch and propped it up, getting on his hands and knees to yell down.
“(Y/N)! Are you down there!” he waited, voice echoing down the ladder and through the basement. “(Y/N)!”
A growl sounded beside him and he looked over, seeing White-Fang staring at him.
He reached over and ran a hand through his haunches. “Buddy, where is she?”
The wolfdog merely blinked and turned his snout into Jason’s wrist.
“She went after it, White-Fang. She went after it and I didn’t go with her and now she’s nowhere to be found.” His gazed at him. “What do I do?”
White-Fang bared his teeth in a snarl and Jason looked at them.
“I gotta tell them, don’t I?” he sighed and pulled his hand away, running it through his hair. “Alright. She might’ve wanted to tell them, but if she hasn’t sent Nevermore to relay, something’s wrong.” Jason stood and slammed the hatch shut.
As he ran down the hallway, he paused and looked back at the wolfdog. “Thanks, buddy.”

Bruce was anything if not punctual, and when he said for a party to be over, it was over. Honestly, it was actually Alfred who relayed the message and cleared everyone out—he had a knack for it, but Jason figured the loaded rifle he liked to clean in front of everyone.
That being said, the only people still in the ballroom when Jason got to the manor, were Lucius and Alfred. He sped up to them.
“Alfred. Lucius. Have either of you seen (Y/N)?”
Alfred blinked, shaking his head. “No, Master Jason. The last we saw of her, Miss (Y/N) was with you.”
He opened his mouth, but nothing came out and Lucius asked, “Is something wrong, Mister Todd?”
“I can’t find her,” Jason admitted. “She left the party to find something, and she hasn’t called back or…or sent…” he trailed off and Alfred placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Your brothers are in the cave.”
He offered Alfred a tight smile. “Thanks, Alfred.” Glancing at the other man, he nodded. “Lucius.” They watched as he hurried off to the study.
***
His feet hit the bottom step and he strode to the Batcomputer where Dick and Damian were crowded around Tim who was typing away at something. “Hey,” he called, and they spun around, eyes widening.
“Little-wing, where’ve you been?” Dick quizzed, then took in his appearance. “You haven’t changed out of your suit.”
Jason’s hands subconsciously went to his tux and he smoothed it. “Yeah, haven’t gotten around to it yet.” He shook his head. “Doesn’t matter. Have any of you seen (Y/N)?”
Tim spun around in the chair. “Thought she was with you?”
“No. She left after we went into the gardens.” He reached out and curled his hands around the latches of Dick’s armor. “Dick, this is serious. I need to know if any of you have seen or heard from her.”
They gaped at the seriousness surrounding their brother and before they could respond, footsteps echoed behind him. Spinning around, they saw Bruce walking over. “Talk to me,” he demanded.
“We found the beast while you were dallying with the elite, father,” Damian quipped, then nodded to a medical table on the far side of the room.
Jason finally noticed it and his eyes widened at the werewolf’s dead body. “What?” he whispered.
“You killed it?” Bruce questioned and Dick snorted.
“Oh no, wedidn’t.” he nodded at the opposite side of the room. “That thing did.”
Everyone’s attention turned to a glass case about half the size of the study and what Jason saw made his heart drop into his feet. (Y/N) was in the farthest corner of the cage, her wings curled around her. She was still and silent.
“What is that?” their father asked, and Tim shrugged.
“Dunno. We ran a blood sample, but we have no idea what to make of it.”
“What doyou know about it?”
As they delved into a conversation, Jason made his way over to the cage. A flash of black appeared in his vision and he looked up, seeing Nevermore gliding to sit atop the cage. He tipped his head, staring at him with a beady eye.
“Is she okay?” he whispered and Nevermore nodded, hopping down to Jason’s wrist when he held it up above the cage. He glanced at the keypad and knew it had some type of failsafe to shut down on the first failed attempt.
“What’s the number, pretty boy?” he asked softly. “Four digits.”
Nevermore cocked his head to the keypad then back to Jason. “One-Nine-Eight-Nine.”
Jason punched in the number and the door slid open with a hiss. Nevermore fluttered up to the bars away from the cage and as he stepped inside, he slammed his fist into the keypad, watching as it sparked, and the door slid shut.
He heard his name being shouted behind him, but he moved to her, yanking off his gloves. “(Y/N)?” he whispered, fingertips tracing the ashen gray skin of her wing. “Doll? Are you alright?”
Someone hit the glass door. “Jason! Get away from that thing!” It was Bruce.
“I’m here, (Y/N),” he promised. “I’m right here.”
A single wing curled away, and he breathed a sigh of relief as he stepped into it and it curled around him, darkening his vision, though he could see the faint glow of her crimson eyes.
He felt her arms wrap around his body and he shut his eyes, one cradling the back of his head as she stood to her feet and he grabbed tight to her as she bent her knees and suddenly shot up through the glass ceiling, shattering it into a million pieces.
It felt like an eternity, being weightless in her arms, then the shock of the world came back as they hit the cave floor and she uncurled her wings, exposing them to his family.
Jason opened his eyes as he heard the various weapons unsheathe, charge-up, and extend, and he stared up at (Y/N). “It’s going to be alright, doll.”
“I can hear their hearts, darling,” she whispered lowly. “They are afraid for you.” (Y/N) looked down at him. “Of me.”
He shook his head and smiled, “Let me handle this, okay?”
For a moment she didn’t move, then she slowly uncurled her arms and he turned, but he didn’t step away from her, merely extending his arm out to protect her.
“Guys, you’ve got to relax,” he directed, and Jason saw their eyes dart from her to him.
“Jason, you’ve gotta be joking man,” Tim countered. “That thing killed that thingover there.” He took a step forward. “Put its hand through its chest.”
“I know she did,” he replied and held out his other hand to motion for them to stop. “But she’s not going to hurt anyone here.”
“She?” Dick repeated. “That’s a she?” From the look on his face, he didn’t believe his brother.
Jason looked at Bruce. “She’s not going to hurt us, B.” he inhaled deeply and pleaded, “You’ve gotta trust me on this. Put the weapons down.”
They stared one another down and then Bruce held out a hand, and the weapons lowered. He glanced back at (Y/N) and nodded, though her eyes were still wary, and he murmured, “Everything’s going to be okay, I promise.”
Sighing, she stepped back and cocooned herself with her wings once more, then a swirl of black smoke rose around her and a moment later, (Y/N) stepped forward, her face unreadable and Jason would’ve paid all the money in the world to have a picture framed of the expressions his family gave at her reveal.
“Good evening,” she greeted. “I’m sure this is coming at a surprise.”
No one said a word. Not a single word and Jason was sure this was the first time he’d ever seen his family speechless.
“I have contemplated revealing my true nature to you all since our first meeting, understand though that I didn’t wish for you all to see my…other form.” (Y/N) explained. “But please, do not be afraid of me. I’m not going to harm you.”
Jason reached back and took her hand, pulling so half her body was behind him. “I know this is confusing but (Y/N)’s been doing this a lot longer than we have.”
“Uh…how long exactly?” Dick wondered.
He looked back at her and she sighed. “About ten…thousand years.”
Again, he wished he had a picture of their faces.
Tim blinked. “Is there a term for older milfs that isn’t cougar?”
At that, the cave descended into hysterical laughter and (Y/N) pressed her face into Jason’s shoulder as she cackled, and even he was rubbing at his eyes as tears gathered in them.
“Oh my God, I’m so happy I’m no longer the only one being known to date older women!” Dick shouted and the mood was broken by Bruce who walked up to them.
“How long have you been in Gotham?”
(Y/N)’s laughter faded, and she pulled a solemn expression. “About four centuries. I helped the American soldiers against the British when the war came here.” She looked away. “It’s been a long time since I involved myself in human affairs but…” Jason squeezed her hand and she glanced down at their cojoined grip. “But Jason changed that when he picked a fight with a coven a year or so ago.”
“Okay, technically I didn’t pick the fight, they started attacking me,” he retorted.
“After youwaltzed into their territory like you owned the joint.”
Jason scowled. “Semantics.”
(Y/N) chuckled and met Bruce’s gaze, and something passed between them. “Is there something on your mind, Bruce?”
“What are you?” he asked, and she opened her mouth, flashing her fangs. “Vampire?”
“Yes…but that doesn’t seem to be the problem for you.” her eyes narrowed. “So, what is?” Bruce glanced at Jason and she knew right then. “I haven’t used any powers over Jason to sway his mind.”
“Are you sure?”
(Y/N) reached up and undid the tie from Jason’s neck, then unbuttoned the first two of his shirt and showed his neck to them. “Vampiric seduction only works when a vampire has consumed the blood of someone they enthralled.” She let Jason go. “I haven’t fed on Jason nor any human for ten millennia. This I swear to you.”
Jason nodded. “(Y/N)’s never hurt me, B.”
“She killed that thing,” he said, nodding at the corpse and she turned to it, pulling away from Jason to walk over.
“I did. As was my duty as a vampire.” She examined the werewolf. “But I did confirm my suspicions. It was a feral. But now it’s dead and no more people will be ravaged by it.”
“Feral?” Dick repeated. “Like crazy?”
“Wild,” (Y/N) corrected. “When a human can’t separate the beast from themselves, they lose control over their abilities to shift.” Her fingers trailed delicately over the hole she made in its chest. “They’re lost forever. A mindless beast.”
“You mean this was a human?” Damian questioned. “A person?”
She nodded. “Was. Hasn’t been for some time now.” Shaking her head, she admitted, “Though I’m still unsure of how it got into Gotham City. The nearest werewolf colony is in Virginia. It is…concerning that it got this far, especially with as many vampiric territories between here and there it must’ve passed through.”
“We could’ve saved them,” Bruce grunted, and she gazed at him.
“No. No you couldn’t’ve.”
“You don’t know that,” he shot back, and she cocked a brow.
“With all due respect, Bruce, you’ve no idea what you’re talking about.”
“And you do?”
(Y/N)’s face pinched. “I’m a ten-thousand-year-old vampire that’s battled against Lycans for thousands of years.” Scowling, she griped, “Yeah, I think I know what I’m talking about.”
Bruce took a step forward, but Jason cut him off. “Look, I know how much you love being right, but this time, you’re not, okay? (Y/N) stopped this thing from hurting anyone else.”
“She killed it. We don’t kill in my—”
“Bruce.” She silenced him with a firm call. “I understand your no kill rule, but you need to understand that Gotham City isn’t your city. And even if you think it is, my centuries of being here out way your family’s.” She got in his face, staring him down. “I did what was expected of me by the council and I’m not going to apologize for taking care of my business.”
Pointing back at it, she added, “And this was mine. Not yours.”
They glared at each other and Jason rested a hand on her shoulder, prompting her to soften her eyes when she looked at him. “(Y/N), you’ve expended a lot of energy being in your form for so long. We should get you something to eat and some rest.”
(Y/N) reached up and wiped the fatigue from her eyes. “I need to contact Alexander and tell him I took care of it.”
“Do it tomorrow,” Jason urged, pulling her into his arms. “Doll, you’re exhausted. Even I can tell.”
“I’m fine,” she retorted but his arms tightened around her.
“I will throw you over my shoulder and carry you if I have to,” he threatened, and she hissed.
“I am not a sack of potatoes.”
“So, you’re going to walk willingly?” he asked, blinking those pretty teal eyes expectantly and she scowled at him.
“Fine.” (Y/N) started towards the stairs, him grinning as he followed.
“(Y/N),” Bruce called, and she stopped, glancing back at him.
“Yes?”
He didn’t look at her. “Can I expect more of these again? Or any of you? That form specifically?”
“Lycans? Not likely. Vampires? More likely. Me though?” she shook her head. “No, I’m the only one of my kind in this dimension.”
“This dimension?” Tim queried and stuck himself to her side. “Are you from another dimension?”
(Y/N) blinked down at him. “Why do you wanna know?”
“That’s not a no.”
She smirked, ruffling his hair. “Tell you later. How about that?”
His lips pursed, but after a moment he nodded. “Can we test your stamina and any other limits you’ve got?”
“Sure Tim,” she agreed and took Jason’s hand. “Hundred bucks says I can give your dad a run for his money.”
He grinned. “I’ll take that bet.”
(Y/N) waved at the others and leaned on him as they walked up the stairs in silence.
***
He’d already changed out of his suit and slipped on a pair of boxers when she stepped out of the bathroom and immediately collapsed beside him on the bed, letting out a groan.
“Tired?” he chuckled, rolling over to lay on his stomach, hand caressing her back.
(Y/N) nodded. “It’s odd. I don’t get tired like I used to when I first started out but…”
“But?” Jason encouraged and she turned her face to look at him.
“But I’ve noticed that when I spend long amounts of time in my Vampire Lord form, I revert back and am just overcome with fatigue.” She exhaled deeply and buried her face in the mattress before inching up to lay her face just below the pillow. “I’m tired,” she said, voice muffled against the fabric and Jason snorted, raising up.
He straddled her hips, pressing himself against her and smirked at the curious noise she made when he yanked the towel away leaving her exposed. Jason dug his hands into her skin, kneading every knot she’d gathered the past few months.
(Y/N) groaned into the sheets as he squeezed her shoulders, digging his thumb into the curve of her back muscle and she couldn’t help but shift slightly, the relief almost shy of painful. It was, however, the price to pay for all she’d put her body though recently.
“I think you’re more knotted up than a fishing net,” he murmured, massaging her sides.
She grunted and wiggled her hips, listening to him inhale sharply. “Can’t help it,” she said. “I knot easily.”
Jason smirked and shifted back slightly, hands moving down to knead the flesh of her lower back and haunches. “You must be happy to have me as your personal de-knotter.”
“Could be happier,” she countered, gasping silently when he pinched her rear. “Jason!” she hissed and shot a look over her shoulder. “Don’t do that.”
He blinked innocently. “Do what?”
“I will punch you,” she warned, and he rolled his eyes.
“No, you won’t.”
“Excuse me?” she shot back, eyes widening at the audacity. “I won’t punch you? Who do you think you’re talk—oh wow,” (Y/N) inhaled sharply when he cupped her, fingers sliding between her thighs.
“What was that?” Jason asked and she groaned his name.
“Jason…”
He hummed, middle finger twitching enough that it had her arching back. “What do you want?”
“I’d personally rather die than beg you to finger me,” she hissed and placed her hands out away from her and shifted, sliding her legs from underneath him. (Y/N) turned over and propped herself up against the pillows, curling her pointer finger up at him.
Jason started crawling up the bed. “So, what will it take for you to beg?”
“Depends on what you want me to beg for, darling,” she countered, elegantly raising a leg, placing her foot on his shoulder. “But I’m sure you could persuade me to lower myself enough.”
He chuckled and reached up, grabbing the top of her foot as he leaned forward and she bent it, letting her heel rest on his back. Jason pushed her other thigh apart, exposing her and he looked up at her, waiting.
“Want permission?” she queried with a smile and he pressed a kiss to her thigh.
“Can’t come without it…isn’t that how that goes?” he teased and (Y/N) rolled her eyes, reaching down to grab his chin.
She tipped his head up and whispered, “Love me, darling. Like you want to.” Jason’s eyes darkened as he swallowed thickly and she pulled her hand away, resting it on her stomach. “Going shy on me?” (Y/N) murmured and propped her other arm behind her head so she could watch him. “But you look so pretty.”
“You’re a witch, you know that?” he countered and shifted her legs further apart. “You enjoy the power, don’t you?”
(Y/N) hummed. “I’m not called a ‘Lord’ for nothing, darling.” She groaned when he nipped up her thigh to her center. “My power isn’t challenged often.”
“I guess I’m just cocky enough to challenge,” Jason shot back before dragging his tongue up her center, smirking when she gasped, the leg over his shoulder tensing.
She reached down and carded her fingers through his hair. “Or foolish,” she breathed, grip on his tresses tightening when he circled her clit with his tongue. “Jason,” (Y/N) moaned, arching her back in need.
His only response was a groan that had her shivering as it sent shocks throughout her body and then he was sliding his middle finger into her, pumping it quickly.
“More,” she begged, and he obeyed, sliding another finger into her, curling them repeatedly until he found that spot inside her that had (Y/N) writhing, hips lifting with every pump.
Each time he gave her a sharp suck, she tugged his hair, pricking his scalp with points of pain and he returned it with low groan that had her whining and pulling him closer to her. At one point, she’d forgone watching him, tipping her head back, letting out little “Ah-ah-ah’s” and Jason knew the higher pitched she got, the closer the was and all it spurred him to do was make it happen faster.
Her thighs began to close around him and before he knew it, she was grabbing at his shoulders and yanking him up to kiss him. Jason kept curling his fingers and she gripped his wrist, stopping him.
“What’re you doing?” he questioned, pulling away to look into her ember eyes. They were blown wide with desire and she shook her head.
“I want you inside me.”
“I was,” Jason breathed heavily, though he removed his fingers and started shimmying off his underwear.
(Y/N) took his length in her hand and pumped him a few times, smiling breathlessly when he cursed and squeezed the flesh under her thigh still over his shoulder. “Not the part of you I want inside anymore.”
He took his length in his hand, guiding himself until he was up against her core, but he stopped and gazed at her. “Beg me.”
“I hate you,” she hissed, and he smirked.
“Hate sex is fun too, doll. We can do that instead if you want, but you’re still going to beg a little.” Jason leaned down and took one of her nipples into his mouth, rolling it with his teeth.
“Jason,” she whined. “Please.”
“Little more,” he coaxed when he pulled off, heading for the other one and she cocked her other leg around his hip.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” (Y/N) barked. “Fuck me already, you ass.”
Jason smirked and sheathed himself in one thrust, both of them gasping at the ripple of pleasure; his chest was heaving as he looked down at her. “How do you want it?”
“Fast,” she pleaded. “Fast and hard, please, Jason. Please.”
He grunted and pulled out only to thrust back in, setting a harsh pace that had her shouting, back curving up against him. Jason bent forward, pushing her leg into her chest and she dropped her head back.
“Fuck,” she groaned, feeling him deep inside her and he chuckled, though it sounded strained against her skin.
“Hard enough for you?” he growled, pinching one of her nipples and she nodded rapidly.
“Yes, yes, Jason. Keep going. More.”
He huffed a laugh. “Whatever will it take to please you?” Jason captured her lips in a searing kiss as he felt her slip a hand between them, and then she was tightening around him. “Shit,” he cursed, breaking their kiss and he gazed at her. “Doll…” he panted; his voice was taut, and he could feel it coming faster and faster.
(Y/N) whimpered beneath him and cupped his cheek. “Darling, please,” she begged, and that needy voice was the final push. Jason buried his face in her neck and moaned her name desperately as he spilled himself, hips stuttering and then she was gasping in his ear, clenching, and pulsing around him.
They both laid there panting, trying to catch their breaths for what seemed like an hour, then Jason helped her lower her leg before he eased himself out, collapsing beside her. (Y/N), very slowly, turned over and tucked herself underneath his arm, resting her head on his chest, listening to his heart.
“You know…” he started. “That was supposed to be a slow and gentle lovemaking.”
(Y/N) snorted, wrapping her arm around his waist. “We can do slow in the morning.” She looked at him. “Now was the time we tired ourselves out so we can sleep longer.”
“Oh? Is that what that was?” he asked with a grin and she nodded.
“Indeed, it was,” she answered and laid her head back on his chest, eyes starting to slip shut.
“(Y/N)?”
“Mhm?”
“I want you to know that my decision hasn’t changed.”
Her eyes opened but she didn’t look at him. “Truly?”
“I want to be with you. Now…and forever.”
For a moment, she was quiet, then she said, “I want you to spend one whole year talking to your family. If after one full year, you have gained their approval of this choice…then we’ll start the process and I’ll make you vampire.”
“Really?” he asked. “Just like that.”
“Just like that.”
“You won’t regret doing it?”
(Y/N) turned her head, gazing into his eyes. “I regret many things in my life, Jason. But I would never regret you.”
He leaned down and pressed his lips to hers, then murmured, “Nor I you.”
She smiled and reached up, grazing her fingers against his cheek. “Now that that has been settled, it is time to rest.”
“You’ll still be here when I wake up?” he asked, and she hummed.
“Always, darling. Always and forever.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, your winner and NEW AEW WOMENS CHAMPION, Y/N!!!”
That was something that I thought I would never hear and instantly, tears began to streaming down my cheeks slowly.
Everyone told me that I couldn’t do it. My opponent tried to take me out so many times, but I prevailed and now, I was the champion.
I hugged that title so tightly then raised it up high when the referee raised my hand.
If that wasn’t any better, I had my best friends there.
I was a part of the Best Friends, Trent and I being a couple on television, but we were really just friends. It was a good feeling to know that they were all happy for me, still holding the title in the air when they did our group hug.
There was nothing that could bring me down, everyone growing silent when we noticed that Trent had a microphone.
“I hope you guys don’t mind if I have a moment on the microphone and speak from my heart, ” Trent began, turning to me with a smile, pointing at me when he continued:
“There is nothing that this woman cannot accomplish! Since AEW started, she has busted her ass! Making this women’s division stronger! Having first-time-ever matchups! Facing the men in this industry! Being the best friend that she has always been! Being the best girlfriend that she has always been and now, she is the champion!”
Everyone agreed with Trent and even though we weren’t really dating, his words still meant a lot to me because we were friends.
“Baker tried to injury her! Got her jumped! Played so many mind games, but she prevailed and I want you all to know-” Trent added, coming to me, putting the title around my waist, then standing in front of me, “I want you to know that I am so proud of you and that there is no woman on this earth that I love more than you, Y/N!”
I thought Trent’s, I love you, was a friendly one, but I was wrong because what I thought was going to be a hug, was much more than that.
Trent hugged me like it was the last he would ever have and he kissed me, in front of everyone, on camera.
Everyone was cheering, but I was losing my shit! We were just a couple on television! Trent has never done anything more than hug me or wrap his arm around me!
No offense to Trent, but I didn’t love him. I loved my boyfriend, Joey Janela.
He was my real boyfriend and he was the first person I thought about when I felt Trent’s lips against mine.
I kept my eyes closed, telling myself in my head:
This is just a dream. Just a crazy dream. Haha
Unfortunately, it wasn’t a dream. Trent kissed me one more time after our lips parted, smiling down at me before he picked me up and put me on his shoulder.
It was so hard to pretend to be happy like I was a few moments ago when I won, showing my title to the fans.
The moment we got backstage, I lied and said I needed to use the ladies' room, but I rushed to Sonny and Joey’s locker room, finding Sonny just like I hoped.
“Sonny, I’m gonna die! Trent’s gonna die! Where the fuck is Lance Archer because everybody is going to fucking die?!” I stressed, not holding back the emotions and losing my mind.
“Y/N, deep breath’s, okay?” Sonny sighed, trying to get me to calm down, “You just won the title! You should be happy!”
“Thank you,” I smiled, truly appreciative, but snapping right back into panic mode, “But Trent just professed his love for me and kissed me in front of fucking everyone! Joey is going to lose his shit! I’m losing my shit!”
“Joey is the type,” Sonny admitted, hugging me, but the bit of peace we had didn’t last long when we heard a loud knock on the door, anger in Joey’s voice when he said:
“I know you both are in there!”
Sonny didn’t hesitate to unlock the door, letting him in and god, he looked angrier than he sounded, his face turning ready.
“Joey, please don’t-“ Sonny began, but Joey wasn’t having it, snapping:
“Sonny, don’t even bother!”
“It’s not her fault and you know it!” Sonny snapped back, not taking his shit and standing up for me.
“Can we just have some time alone?” I asked Sonny quietly.
He answered with a smile, but shooting Joey a dirty look and slamming the door shut when he left.
The silence between Joey and I was so damn scary like a horror movie. He was huffing and puffing, his hair frizzing when he began sweating a little from all of the anger.
“I told you that you needed to get out of this storyline and now look!” Joey yelled and at first, I wanted to stay quiet, but I started freaking out again when I yelled:
“How the hell was I supposed to know that was going to happen? Usually,, He always keeps things professional. I’m not a damn mind reader, Joey!”
“Yeah, and it’s pretty obvious that he had enough of being, “professional”!” Joey mocked, “And the first thing you do is run to Sonny and avoid me?!”
“Yeah! Because when you’re jealous, you always lose your shit!” I snapped, “I’m losing my shit too!”
“I have every damn right to be “jealous”!” Joey argued, “How would you feel if another girl kissed me, huh?!”
“Tonight was supposed to be my night,” I cried, holding my title, “You see this Joey? I busted my ass for this!”
It became hard to fight through the tears, but still able to continue:
“Trent can kick rocks! I don’t love him! I love you! He’s the one who did this, not me. All I wanted was to bask in the glory of winning my title, but I guess that’s too much to ask for.”
Finally, Joey calmed down for a moment. He was breathing normally again after a deep breath, realizing that I was right. Even though that was hard for him.
But when I told him that I loved saying quietly:
“You know that I love you too, Y/N. I know how hard you worked for that and I’m proud. Not only are we going to celebrate, but I’m also making sure everyone here knows that the champion is my girl.”
“Please,” I smiled, putting my title down while we almost to each other, my soul about being smacked out of my body when his lips hit mine and hard.
His whole body felt like it was on fire and during every touch, it was like I could feel it, feel how frustrated he was and I couldn’t blame him. I was frustrated too, but this was our time to let that all out and we sure did.
The next thing I knew, clothes were flying all over the locker room, my wrestling boots, and knee pads just being launched in all directions, and when he tried to get on the couch, we were moving too fast and fell on the floor.
“Fuck that couch!” Joey groaned, throwing one of his shoes at it, shoving the small coffee table into the corner, “We can do it on the floor.”
I was just about to spread my legs wide, kind of wanting to tease him, but there was no time for that.
My body followed along when he flipped me over, putting me in a doggy-style position, wasting no time, about splitting me in two when he lined his tip with my entrance, then slamming into me, all of his cock in me with just one thrust.
“Oh,” I whined sharply, being a smartass when I said, “I just wrestled a match you know?”
“Don’t act like this is the first time we fucked after a match,” He groaned, giving me another quick thrust, shutting me up and making me moan.
Joey was definitely dominant, animalistic at times, but this time, with what happened tonight, that was all quadrupled.
Hard, fast, unrelentless.
I couldn’t even have a second to try and collect my thoughts with the way he was giving it to me, hands refusing to leave my hips, pulling me back to make his cock go even deeper.
Not even five minutes and I was being turned into a whining, moaning mess, keeping my ass perked up while my upper body collapsed, trying to take deep breaths, but I ended up burying my face in the floor, smacking it.
“This ain’t no submission match,” Joey chuckled, taking one of my arms and also taking a handful of my hair, pulling my head up.
Both holds gave him more leverage, my back arching hard when I felt hard, pounding shots at my sweet spot that were nonstop.
His hand was tugging at my hair a little harder, pulling me up towards him and since he was kneeling, I could kind of sit on his lap which helped, but with the way he was going, fucking me senseless, it didn’t matter.
“I wanna hear you screaming my name,” Joey growled in my ear, biting at it, the bites falling down to my neck and shoulder, while his hand left my hair and found my throat, giving it a good squeeze, “I can’t hear anything when your face is in the floor.”
“Joey,” I whined loudly, “Baby, you’re so damn good.”
“It’s good when I fuck your brains out, huh?” He snickered, biting my neck again, making sure marks were left behind.
At the same time, his hand let go of my arm, taking a handful of my breast, twisting my nipple and it sent this tingling feeling through my body, my core and walls clamping up.
Joey must’ve liked the feeling, his hand quickly falling to my hip, his forearm pushing my hips down while his fingers were at my clit, going in circles.
“Just know, you’re going to cum more than once,” He smiled against my shoulder with a kiss, pulling down to just his tip and railing my walls on every thrust, with having me up straight and bouncing up and down.
“‘Now, cum all over me,” He commanded, “I wanna be soaked.”
“Joey,” I moaned out, every moan so dirty and it was to the point where I was just about screaming, never experiencing such an overwhelming orgasm.
It about drained me, my body growing tired so quickly when all the heat flushed out of me and soaked all of cock and thighs, even the floor.
Joey lived up to his word but was kind enough to give me a second. I fell to all fours, finally having a moment to breathe properly until I felt a hard smack on my ass, and then another one.
I turned back to look at him with a smile, seeing his eyes still full of fire, unable to control himself again when he picked me up and turned me around.
“Get over here, ” He growled, kissing me hard with so much tongue, wrapped his arms around my waist, picking me up so that I was up straight, my legs wrapped his waist while my arms held onto his neck.
“Oh my, oh my God,” I cried, drooling on his shoulder, taking all of him in a quick, smooth thrust again.
I took a handful of his, holding on tight as he repeated that same cycle, just as fast as before. He knew how good he was, loving the sight of my head falling back, all of the pleasure making my eyes roll back when I felt him in my lower core near my stomach.
Even with my eyes open, my vision started turning white, in a bunch of flashes, my walls clamping tighter than ever. I could feel another orgasm building up more and more as I held onto his neck tightly, turning his red flesh white.
One of his hands went around my neck, the other holding the arch of my back, letting my back fall back to the floor, still keeping my lower half up and arched while he hammered away b
Salacious moans and screams, wet skin, groans were all anyone in the entire place could probably hear because we were going like wild animals.
It was to the point where I couldn't breathe again, looking back at anything to try and distract myself, but then I saw the door and shadows, feet by it, just standing there.
Joey was curious as to what I was looking at, noticing and it put an evil smile on his face.
“Looks like we attracted attention, ” He laughed, slowing down for a moment so I was laid down properly and he could be on top of me.
“Joey!! I’m so close baby,” I whined, but looking back to the feet and they were still there.
“You’re going to get what you want,” He assured, “Just couldn’t help but notice what you were staring at.”
We both looked and then I ended up moaning loudly, unprepared for the crazy thrust I received.
“Everyone is going to know that you’re mine after tonight,” Joey whispered in my ear, smothering me with kisses on top of my wicked moans, working harder than before, “Even if they walked in right now, I’d still keep going, show them who really rocks your world.”
“We all know it’s you, Joey, ” I said quickly, growing frantic, scratching up his back when I felt my orgasm forming up and it was ready, “Joey! Joey!”
My body seized when I latched all around him, holding on for dear life, my whole body pulsating to the point where it was the only thing that I could hear.
“Oh hell yeah, that’s it,” Joey groaned, it rumbling in his chest while he took the time to enjoy it, his cock sure enjoying it when I felt it beginning to throb.
“Baby,” I whispered, still panting, but wanting something.
“Yeah, baby girl?” He asked, his hair falling down when he looked at me.
“If we get in trouble, I am blaming you,” I warned, both of us blurting out in laughter.
“Go ahead,” He smiled devilishly, kissing me, “I’ll gladly take the blame.”

The Rest Will Be History - George Weasley
Pairings: George Weasley x non specific house reader, Sirius Black x reader (parental), slight Remus Lupin x reader ( parental), George x reader x Fred (platonic)
Warnings: lots of arguing, feelings of abandonment etc
Summary: You wonder why you aren’t enough for Sirius and why you always come second to everyone but George reminds you that you’ll never come second to him
Trope: Childhood best friends to lovers
Word Count: 4.9K
______________________________________________________________
You sighed as you continued to argue with Sirius over Harry. You had asked him to do one thing which was to show up and be there for you but instead he blew you off for Harry again.
“ come on (y/n) don’t be ridiculous Harry needs me “ Sirius sighed feeling exhausted
“ so do I “ you stated feeling as if he was just pushing your feelings aside
“ He’s my godson! “ he shouted at you now feeling angry at how selfish you were being
“ and I’m your daughter! but that doesn’t seem to matter to you now does it? “ you shouted back feeling hurt by your fathers words
“ Harry doesn’t have any parents “ Sirius tried reasoning with you
“ yeah well by the looks of it neither do I “ you whispered before turning away from him and walking out
“ He’s trying you know “ Remus said from beside you
“ for who Rem? For you? For Harry? Because he’s certainly not trying for me. I asked him to do this one thing for me! To be there for ME today but he just couldn’t do that now could he! He was too excited to take Harry back to school shopping and to spend time with Harry!” You snapped feeling tired of having to defend your behavior
“ he was locked away for years and- “ Remus started but you quickly cut him off knowing you had heard enough.
“ No Remus that’s not an out.... he doesn’t get to use that as an excuse as to why he pays more attention to Harry because for 12 years I had to live without my father! Harry didn’t even know he existed! While I sat there for TWELVE years missing him everyday! begging and pleading for someone to listen to me when I said he was innocent but no one did! Harry’s not the only one that lost everything that night and it’s about time you all recognize that “ you spat before storming upstairs
Once you reached the top of the stairs you were met with several pairs of eyes. They all wore expressions of sympathy and pain for you. Especially Harry.
You sighed before pulling the younger boy in for a hug.
“ it’s not your fault okay? I’m sorry that we’ve practically dragged you in the middle of this argument “ you mumbled
“ it’s alright... I didn’t know about today if I had I wouldn’t have gone with him and-“
“ Harry.... this is on Sirius and Sirius alone okay? I don’t want you worrying about this alright? “ you asked him as you pulled away
“ alright “ he answered with a small smile on his face.
You returned the smile before walking into your room. Thankfully none of them had followed you so you could begin packing your things in silence. You couldn’t possibly stay here any longer, it was too painful and troubling for you. It felt as if you were always second best to everyone... to Sirius, to Remus... you’d even become second to Molly well third considering her actual children come first.
You were sick of having to beg for your own father’s attention and sick of wondering why you weren’t enough for him. Always coming second to Harry no matter what. A part of you knew it was because being with Harry made him feel close to James and Lily but that wasn’t an excuse for him to neglect you and ignore you when you needed him most.
“ tell me you’re not leaving “ George said as he entered the room without knocking
“ I could tell you that but unfortunately I’d be lying also there’s this thing called knocking.... you should try it “ you shrugged
“ ahh yes I’ll be sure to keep that in mind next time.... so you’re really going to leave me all alone here to suffer “ he sighed before dramatically throwing himself on your bed
“ always one for the dramatics..... it’s only a few days George “ you stated as you threw yourself next to him
“ yeah but once we get back to school things are different.... it’s our last year (y/n) we’ll hardly have time to just be us and then before we know it everything is done and we part ways and then who knows the next time we’ll see each other “ he rambled
“ All the time. You’ll be running the shop with Fred and I’ll be taking extra courses to become a professor and we’ll see each other whenever we want... we’ll be living the lives we’ve dreamed of since first year and everything will be perfect Georgie “
“ I’m sorry about Sirius “ he whispered
“ yeah... me too “ you said before leaning your head on his shoulder
“ is there anything I can do to make you stay.... we could build a Fort out of blankets and pillows like we used to and watch muggle films and have mum make us some hot chocolate and just escape everything and everyone for a while “ He said softly as he ran his fingers through your hair
“ you really want me to stay? “
“ of course.... I always want you around “ he smiled softly while looking down at you
“ then I’ll stay “ you declared
“ you’d really stay just for me? “ he asked
“ I’d do anything for you George.... you should know that by now “
“ I’d do anything for you too “
You looked up at him and smiled knowing that no matter what happens in life you’d always have George Weasley by your side and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
“ Oi! You two get up let’s go mum says it’s time for dinner “ Fred shouted
Before you could stand up you found yourself being lifted up and thrown over George’s shoulder
“ George Fabian Weasley you put me down right this instant! “ you shouted as he ran down the hallway and to the stairs
“ no can do love “ he laughed as he ran down the stairs
You couldn’t help but laugh. George always seemed to put a smile on your face no matter what.
“ George put (y/n) down! “ you heard Molly shout but George still didn’t listen as he continued to carry you right to the table.
You were a laughing mess by the time he set you down in the chair next to his at the dinner table. You felt slightly dizzy but the feeling of happiness that coursed through your body made it worth it.
“ Thank you “ you whispered to George ignoring all the eyes on the two of you
“ for what? “ he questioned as he leaned in closer to you
“ always being here.... no one makes me smile like you do so thank you “
He just smiled at you before giving you a quick kiss on your forehead and pulling away, turning his attention towards Molly who now stood at the head of the table.
“ I know these next few days are going to be a bit hectic and this may be our last dinner just us so I wanted to toast everyone especially Fred, George and (y/n) as they go into their last year at Hogwarts. I’ve gotten to watch the three of you grow up together and I am so proud of all three of you “ she said with tears in her eyes.
Tears pricked in your eyes knowing Molly was like a second or third mother to you . I mean the woman had practically raised you alongside Narcissa much to Lucuis’s dismay.
“ Thank you Molly “ your voice shook as you spoke, an indicator you were trying not to cry.
“ oh my dear.... it has been an honor to see you grow into this fierce and strong woman. I want to thank you for always looking after my boys and Ginny and let you know that I am so proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished. I cannot wait to see you teach at Hogwarts in the next few years. You’re like a daughter to me and I feel so grateful to have you in our lives “
You couldn’t stop the tears from falling at her words. You stood up and made your way over to her practically throwing yourself in her arms, hugging her tight.
“ Thank you for always being there for me and welcoming me into your home. Encouraging me over the years and overall being the parent I never had “ you whispered in her ear knowing that no one else needed to hear what you were saying.
You pulled away and gave her a smile before returning to your seat next to George who wore the biggest smile on his face.
He loved that his family loved you just as much as he did.
“ I’d also like to make a toast to (y/n)..... I know I’m not usually one for the sappy stuff but you’re my best friend and pretty much sister and I’m so proud of you. We’ve been by each other’s side for as long as I can remember and you’ve been our biggest supporter. Staying up late to help us come up with products or to help us study, always looking out for us and Ron and Ginny.... I can’t believe you’ve spent all these years rebelling along with us just to become a professor but I’m proud of you none the less and I love you like a lot.... you’re family to us Weasley’s and if Mum had her way you’d already be married in “ Fred laughed which also caused you to laugh
“ I love you too Freddie “ you laughed before standing up and pulling him in for a hug. Once he pulled away and sat down you stayed standing up
“ since we’re toasting and giving speeches I’d like to make one too..... I wouldn’t be the person I am today without all of you here and I appreciate having all of you in my life. However.... these two red headed twins here are the most important people in my life. So I want to make a toast to the two of you. You guys are two of the smartest most innovative people I’ve ever met. I mean what 14,15,16,17 year olds do you know that can do what you’ve done? I have no doubt in my mind that with whatever you decide to do in life that you’ll excel at it. I believe in the two of you with everything I can and I love you guys so much “
They both stood up and pulled you in for a hug which caused you to laugh. When you pulled away you all sat down and looked around at everyone at the table. They all wore proud smiles and most were teary eyed after seeing just how close the three of you truly were. You however didn’t miss the sad look on Sirius’s face, it caused your chest to sink and the happiness you felt to immediately void your body.
Before you could say something to him and owl appeared at the window causing Molly to rush over and open it. You recognized the owl as one of the Malfoy’s owl’s so you knew it was here for you. The owl quickly flew over to you and dropped a letter in your lap before flying away. You ignored all the questions and quickly opened the letter.
My dearest (y/n),
I wish I could be with you in the next few days as you prepare for your final year at hogwarts but unfortunately given our current situation that’s not possible.
I fear for Draco’s safety in the coming years and would like to ask if you’d look after him for me this year....Look out for one another like you’ve done for so many years despite all that’s going on. Take care of and love each other.
It appears we’re going to be on opposing sides of this upcoming war and I want you to know that no matter what happens that I will always love you like a daughter. No matter who you align yourself with or who you love or what you are you will always be family to me.
I wish you nothing but the best in your final year and want you to know that I believe in you. I know you’re going to do great things. I love you, stay safe and take care of yourself
Love - Cissy
You folded the letter back up as a few more years slipped from your eyes. You sniffled before smiling.
“ well who was it from? “ Remus asked
“ Cissy.... she just wanted to wish me luck “ you beamed with tear filled eyes
“ Cissy? As in Narcissa Malfoy? You trust that retched woman? “ Sirius asked with a venomous tone taking you by surprise a d causing your blood to boil
“ retched woman? That retched woman took me in and raised me while you were in Azkaban! You have no right to speak on things you know nothing about “ you bit back causing everyone’s eyes to go wide.
You hardly ever spoke to anyone like that so when you spoke to your own father like that it shocked everyone however you were extremely close with Narcissa.
“ (y/n) Andromeda black you will not speak to me like that in my own house! “ Sirius shouted
“ it’s Malfoy and as of (y/b/d) it was made my house. Your mother hated you Sirius the tapestry proves it. The house and everything she ever had was to be given to me when I turned 17 so I’ll speak to you however I please in MY house that I’ve allowed you to stay in “ your tone was icy as your glare hardened
“ what? “ he asked baffled
“ it’s true.... your mother left the house to her only grandchild. She was raised by the Malfoy’s so she figured she would carry on the black family legacy instead she’s here fighting alongside the order and helping to keep you safe.... it might help if you pay an ounce of attention to her considering you’re only safe here because of her “ Remus said calmly
The room had fallen silent and everything was now awkward. You felt bad for how you had snapped at Sirius but at the same time the way he had been treating you lately had been making your blood boil.
“ well.... I think I’ll just head to bed now “ Sirius announced before standing up and making his way out of the room.
You sighed as you looked over at Remus
“ thank you Rem.... I’m sorry for all this arguing and I know that must have been hard for you “
“ It wasn’t.... yes Sirius is my best friend but you’re my god daughter. He trusted me to protect you, keep you safe and stand up for you so that’s exactly what I’ll do even if it‘s him I have to fight “
You just smiled at him before looking around at everyone.
“ okay let’s eat! “ you exclaimed.
Dinner passed quickly everyone making small talk and enjoying themselves. Everyone except you, the thought of Sirius sitting alone in his room instead of down here where he should be was weighing heavily on you.
“ go “ George said suddenly, snapping you out of your thoughts
“ what? “
“ go get him “ he said while motioning for you to get up and go
“ how did you-“
“ because I know you “ he beamed causing you to look up at him with a look of adoration on your face.
“ stop ogling me and go “ George laughed
Your face turned red before nodding and standing up, quickly excusing yourself and running up the stairs. You quietly walked over to his room and opened the door.
“ you’ve spent enough time alone and in the dark don’t you think “ your voice was soft as you looked down on the man who sat in the corner all alone
“ used to it by now “ he muttered
“ come back downstairs.... you shouldn’t be up here alone when there’s a room full of people that love you downstairs “
“ the one I want to love me the most is the one who seemingly loves me the least “
“ If I loved you the least do you think I’d be standing here? “
“ did they really raise you? The Malfoy’s? “
“ yes.... they did and they did a good job. Lucius was more focused on raising Draco and Narcissa was more focused on raising me. She’s the closet thing I have to a mother besides molly “
There was silence for a moment until you decided to finally ask the question that had been looming over you for months.
“ why aren’t I good enough.... I mean why is Harry so important to you but I’m not “
Sirius looked up at you, a look of pain and guilt spreading across his face at your words.
“ oh (y/n) it’s not that it’s- “ he stopped, trying to find the words.
“ I used to write to you.... I could never send them of course but I always wrote you letters telling you about myself and my friends... how my day was going and how no matter what anyone said I’d always believe you were innocent... tell you that I would give absolutely anything for someone else to realize it so we could finally be a family “ you stopped to take a breath before continuing
“ When you broke out I was so happy.... the childlike fantasies could finally be real and you’d come and find me and tell me how you thought of me everyday but you didn’t.... you didn’t do any of that instead you came for Harry. You told Harry how you wanted nothing more than to be a family and I had to find out from Professor Snape that you had come to the castle. It’s not Harry’s fault and it’s not your fault that you were thrown in Azkaban but I can’t help but wonder.... why was Harry worth breaking out of Azkaban for but I wasn’t? How many years did you wait? Did you ever think of me? “
Sirius looked up at you with nothing but pain in his eyes. He opened his mouth to say something but he couldn’t because he didn’t have an answer to any of your questions.
“ guess I have my answers then......I expect you downstairs in the next few minutes or I’ll send Kreacher up here to bother you until you make a reappearance “ You didn’t give him time to respond as you turned and exited his room quickly.
You made your way back downstairs and into the dining room where all eyes were suddenly on you. Remus looked at you with a questioning look but you just shook your head. You quickly sat back down next to George before speaking up.
“ He’ll be down in a moment “ and a few people smiled thinking that had meant you’d fixed your relationship with one another but George and Remus knew that wasn’t the case.
Sirius eventually came down and you avoided the glances thrown your way from him, Remus and George. They all tried reading you to grasp how you were feeling but you were much more focused on your conversation with Ginny.
Slowly but surely everything died down and people started heading up to bed. You promised Molly you’d clean everything up so she could have a break, She tried fighting with you on it but you were very stubborn something you seemed to have in common with Sirius.
Soon the only two people left were you and George. You could tell he was tired and were almost positive the only reason he stayed was to find out what had happened.
“ Go to bed Georgie.... I can tell that you’re tired “ you said as you stood up and began cleaning up, using magic to help.
“ not until you tell me what’s bothering you so much “ he responded sleepily
“ I don’t know what you’re talking about “ you muttered
“ (y/n) I’ve know you almost our whole lives.... I know when somethings wrong so please just talk to me “ he begged
You sighed before setting everything down, casting a cleaning spell and looking at him.
“ you wanna know what wrong George? I’ll tell you what’s wrong! I am so sick of coming second and never being enough for anyone! I’ve come second to Draco my entire life and now I get to come second to Harry! I asked him if he ever thought of me while he was locked away and why Harry was worth breaking out for and I wasn’t and he was SPEECHLESS! He couldn’t say ANYTHING! He couldn’t tell me that he loved me and that all he did was think of me while he was away and you wanna know why George? It’s because he doesn’t love me! At least not like he loves Harry and he couldn’t tell me he thought of me everyday because he DIDN’T! He thought of Harry! “ your tone was a lot harsher than you intended for it to be but you couldn’t be bothered to apologize.
“ Well then he’s an idiot! They all are! Anyone that could ever put you second is absolutely mad! You’re the most beautiful and wonderful person I’ve ever met and anyone that doesn’t want to love you or get to know you is so unbelievably stupid! There is no one in the world like you.... you’re one of a kind and everyone that looks past you or that puts you second is missing out on the best opportunity of their life! “ he explained
“ and what would that be? “ you asked
“ Getting to be loved by you.... I know this might not be the best time to say this but if I don’t say it now I don’t think I ever will. I love you (y/n)..... I love you so much it hurts! I’ve been such a coward all these years never being able to tell you but I love you! If it wasn’t so bloody late I’d be shouting it out loud for everyone to hear! I mean you’re magnificent! The most wonderful person I’ve ever met and I am so so lucky to have had you in my life all these years! You’re more than enough for me in fact I don’t think I’m quite enough for you! and the only time you’ll ever come second is when we’re married and have kids “ he said with certainty
“ you’ll always be enough for me Georgie “ was all you could manage to say
“ So.... a September wedding then? “ he joked
“ September? I was think an August wedding “ you joked back
“ I guess I’ll have to go buy a ring then “ he laughed
“ I guess I should probably tell you I love you too then because I do Georgie.... I love you so much I’ve just been to scared to do anything about it in fear of losing you “ you confessed
“ you could never lose me love.... unfortunately you’re stuck with me for eternity “
“ so.... married with kids? You must have our entire future planned out in that head of yours huh “
“ it’s like you said.... I’ll have the shop and you’ll be a professor! Then one day I’ll get down on one knee and the rest will be history “ he whispered
“ I wouldn’t want it any other way “ you whispered back
“ did I just witness a love confession, marriage proposal and promise of children!? Bloody hell let’s graduate first why don’t we “ Fred exclaimed as he made his way down the stairs and towards the two of you
“ you did say earlier if your mother had her way I’d already be married into the family so really we’re just doing her a favor “ you said
“ Oi would you three shut it! I get it you’re in love and blah blah blah but some of us are trying to sleep “ Ron exclaimed from the top of the stairs
“ Ron you say that as if we didn’t just stand at the top of the stairs listening to everything... “ Ginny spoke
“ Who’s been listening! “ you exclaimed
“ everyone “ Remus yelled down
“ Remus! “ you shouted
“ I expect George to ask me formally if he can marry my goddaughter when the time comes now goodnight everyone “ he said which caused you to let out a soft chuckle
“ I think you should ALL head to bed “ you laughed but then a sinking feeling set it
“ Freddie.... when Gin said everything did-“
“ yeah.... Sirius and Harry looked quite upset and Remus pretty much had to hold his tongue from saying anything nasty to Sirius “ Fred mumbled causing a frown to settle upon your face
“ This sucks “ you huffed before sliding down the wall and sitting on the floor.
Fred and George looked at one another before doing the same on either side of you. You smiled at both of them for a moment before looking down at the ground.
“ I don’t mean to make Harry feel bad I really don’t. It’s not his fault.... it’s just so hard when all Sirius cares about is him. I mean in ways I get it I really do.... he’s the child of his two best friends and he wants to love and protect Harry and make sure he knows he does in fact have a family and people that care about him but what about me? It sounds selfish to always be thinking what about me but I’m serious- “
“ no I’m Sirius “ a voice interrupted you causing you to look up and lock eyes with Sirius.
You wanted to be mad at him but you couldn’t help but laugh at the very poor and overused joke of his.
“ Well Freddie I say we head off to bed.... I’ll see you in the morning love and we’ll chat more about us “ George said before practically yanking Fred up and dragging him up the stairs.
Sirius made his way over to you and slid down the wall so he could sit next to you. There was an awkward silence, neither one of you really knowing what to say.
“ I did.... I did think about you and I’m sorry I didn’t tell you I did. And I’m sorry for prioritizing Harry and overlooking you. All these years couldn’t have been easy on you and I guess I never really took a minute to recognize that. It’s been so long that sometimes I forget to acknowledge that he killed your mother the same night he killed James and Lily.... I often think if I had gotten there just a little while earlier James and I could have held him off long enough for your mother and Lily to take the two of you and get away but instead your mother rushed downstairs with James thinking they’d be able to hold him off.... stupid git left his wand in the bathroom and I don’t even want to think about- “ Sirius trailed off not wanting to say what happened next
“ I found you in Harry’s crib.... it was so hard to see everyone like that it really was.... then I was sent away never knowing if I’d ever see you again. I held onto hope I’d see both you and Harry again and over time I guess I began to prioritize him and that was unfair of me.... I should have tried harder for you. I should have loved you more and I should have come to you first not Harry. If you’ll let me I’d really like to try and make things up to you over the next few months.... try and be the father you deserve “
“ I would love that.... but that doesn’t mean you should stop doing things with Harry or think of him less. You need to balance it out because I do want to be a family and Harry’s apart of that family “ you mumbled
A large grin spread across Sirius’s face.
“ good good.... we’ll finally be a family “ he beamed before pulling you in for a side hug causing you to chuckle.
You then pulled away and stood up, extending a hand to help Sirius up.
“ I’m not that old “ he scoffed as he stood up on his own causing you to laugh.
“ I better get to bed.... I’ve got a lot to do tomorrow “ you sighed, dreading all that was to come in the next year. He just nodded and began following you upstairs.
Before you knew it you both stood outside of your rooms.
“ Goodnight (y/n) “
“ Goodnight dad “ you said, shocking him slightly
“ I love you “ he said sincerely
“ I love you too “ and with that you went into your room.
You made your way over to your bed and noticed George lying there half awake obviously waiting for you.
“ well hello there “ you laughed as you grabbed your pajamas
“ I figured I’d sneak in here and wait for you... to make sure you were okay and all “ he mumbled sleepily causing your heart to flutter
You quickly changed, not caring if George saw or not considering he’d changed you a time or two when you were too drunk after a famous Gryffindor party to do it yourself.
You sighed as you finally got into your bed, pulling the covers up as you moved closer to George. He got the hint and lifted his arm so you could move even closer and lay your head on his chest. He smiled at the sight of you cuddled up into him as he wrapped his arm around you.
“ I was meant to go back to my room love “ he laughed
“ I’ve decided that is in fact not allowed and that I will be holding you prisoner this evening... you make an excellent cuddle buddy Georgie “ He just laughed before pulling you closer. You sighed as you buried your head into his chest, inhaling his scent and finally feeling a moment of true peace and happiness. Soon the two of you drifted off to sleep, not a worry in your mind as the two of you found the utmost comfort in one another’s arms.

THIS CONTAINS SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR NEVER HAVE I EVER S2 READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
This is quite long I had a lot to unpack.
Since watching the 2nd season of Never Have I Ever a few things have been bothering me about the way people are reacting to Devi, and the show overall but mostly Devi. First of all she’s what a sophomore in high school? and she’s doing this all while being the only brown girl (up until kinda the middle of S2) and still dealing with grief and having absolutely no idea who she is yet. To me outside of being an honor roll student she is not doing things FOR HER she is doing this to appease her mother. Who while she means well pushing Devi to succeed to certain extremes which if Devi shows the slightest behavior of fucking up her mother makes harsh comments instead of understanding Devi is a literal teenager and needs room for fucking up.
Is Devi hella unreasonable at times? YES does she often times act strictly on impulse without a second thought…YES. But as a girl who virtually has no one outside of her friends who also are staring to drift from her and get into their first relationships themselves and have their own activities she essentially is left to navigate the world and her teenage angst alone. While I will give Nalini credit for all the work and time she has put in to not only being a single mother and navigating her own grief but also being a working mother who is a doctor and quite possibly has her own struggles with being a brown women in that filed. My problem lies with her not being able to balance or even let go of a strong arm parenting style that mostly focuses on Devi’s fuck up more than her accomplishments and makes comments on how her fuck ups that haven’t even happened yet. I’m not sure Nalini even realizes Devi is at the very very top of her class because I truly believe (after S1) even though Nalini apologized to Devi Nalini has a ‘hoping for the best but expecting the worst’ attitude when it comes to Devi and that’s in the for front of her mind so much she doesn’t realize Devi goes above and beyond not only for herself but to make her mother proud of her all for her mother to just not acknowledge that.
Now with Devi’s characterization I get where some people are coming from on saying Devi shouldn’t have been “boy crazy” or that they “ruined her character development” but here’s my problem those critiques while valid and your allowed to have those opinions…It’s just not really realistic and let me tell you why like I stated Devi is what a sophomore in high school and she has made it a abundantly clear her parents forbid her to date cause it’s school and extra curriculars only. Which will lead to a good college which thus will turn into a good career. While that’s all well and good. I don’t think y’all realize the FOMO of being in high school and growing up with very strict parents, and wanting to have your first relationship. Wanting to be an actual teenager and not wanting to think about 3-4 years down the line which most teenagers don’t/can’t visualize cause it’s not the right now. Devi wants to have those experiences and there’s nothing wrong with that does she go about it the right way…not exactly but y’all act like YOU have never been a teenager and said and done awful things out of anger or just pure immature stupidity. For the boy crazy part Devi is literally having her first feelings and experiences with boys she has 0 clue what she is doing outside of probably books, tv, movies and what her friends assume they know (even though they mean well) the only person Devi would remotely trusts is gone, and she can’t ask her mother cause her mother would honestly probably shut her down and make her feel guilty for even wanting to start having her first experiences with boys. Y’all have such a warped view of not only real teenagers and high school aged kids but also fictional ones. Y’all are so use to shows having protagonist being awful or starting off kinda okay but then their character turns awful and remains that way. What some of you fail to realize is actual teenagers and “teenagers” in shows can/are VERY morally grey.
Should Devi have been honest and possibly communicated to both Ben and Paxton that she has some sort of feelings for them both..possibly but Devi is a teenager do you think she is having a in depth analysis and talk with herself (outside of a pros and cons list) about what infatuation versus lust versus genuine connection versus romantic attraction looks like probably not. Let’s also analyze how she literally goes from being in her eyes forgettable to being noticed and even though it’s not talked about in the show explicitly she honestly probably struggles with self esteem/self image issues. To go from being a girl who to her no one cares about/notices to one who is getting the attention of two boys who are in Devi’s eyes attractive in their own right. She is so consumed with two guys ACTUALLY being interested in her that she fails to realize she is/and will hurt them both, Do I think Paxton is genuinely attracted to Devi…maybe. But I’m still on the fence about their relationship to me in the beginning I felt Paxton felt Devi is just another meaningless high school fling that he will forget about once he gets to college but to Devi here’s this guy who is “popular” very attractive and he pays attention to her is she looking at the semantics of the situation and how Paxton is more than likely just using her and is only engaging with Devi to get a passing grade and to basically give her the superficial experience of a “high school boyfriend” no she’s not she’s looking at it like here’s this guy who is attractive and he wants to be with someone like me. But do I also believe Devi in S1 was using Paxton and then fell for him DEFINITELY but I will give credit to Paxton for trying at a real relationship with Devi and I hope he will try to be more open and honest.
Do I think Ben likes Devi I honestly do, While the insensitive jokes (exchanged between both) should be discussed I think Ben over time started to see Devi as a girl who finally saw him not the rich, annoying, know it all. But in his view Devi and him are on equal playing fields because they are both overly driven smart individuals and when she said yes to going out with him it was probably the first time he felt like a girl saw the real him. While Ben too more than likely struggles with abandonment issues him dating Devi in a way made him feel like this was the first time he could actual be happy about something cause it was something he actually wanted and not something he just did to earn points in others books and impress people he genuinely got something on his own and that he was actually happy not a front he put on. To me Ben’s abandonment issues come out even more than in S1 when he tells Devi why he’s so hurt and it’s the night of the party when she runs after Paxton (who he sees has it all) and Devi doesn’t “choose him” Do I think Ben and Devi should date cause they share some form of the same trauma no. But again Devi is not use and doesn’t even know what to do with the attention of two people. Again is Devi looking at the semantics of her relationship with Ben…No. I don’t think Devi even realizes she’s quite literally hurting two people cause we could also discuss how Ben and Paxton probably have had other flings and relationships without a second thought while Devi having no relationship experiences and this is territory for her and she has no idea what she is doing or how to properly navigate this situation.
I’m almost done with this long ass rant I promise but it’s two more things I want to make light of/point out I don’t think anyone really gives Devi credit for still going to therapy, loosing a parent is unbearable especially loosing one as young as Devi did, especially when you feel the only parent that truly understood and supported you is gone. Devi doing things that are impulsive and unreasonable because she quite literally has no guidance her mother is only consumed with Devi not making the family “look bad” Devi’s grief is so heavy and she feels she’s going at it alone because her mother doesn’t take genuine time to talk to her. Now was Devi “stalking” her mother extremely inappropriate yes for sure but do Nalini and her need to communicate better for Devi to understand that her mother wasn’t dating sure even if Nalini was on a date their should have been communication there. Devi will probably never stop grieving her father hell he literally came to her in a dream to tell her she deserves better when it came to “dating” Paxton and Nalini will probably never stop grieving her husband but she deserves happiness too and I believe if Devi and Nalini were both honest with each other her slowly dating again wouldn’t have been a problem. Another point I wanna make connecting Devi, Paxton, and Ben is they all have this view that the grass is greener on the other side and that’s just not the case. Ben is jealous of Paxton cause he feels he has the “Perfect life” but in actuality Paxton is extremely flawed and honestly insecure his own family doesn’t believe in him and he knows people only like him because he is attractive, while Paxton looks at Ben like this, while annoying Ben is smart, rich, and no one ever questions Ben’s intelligence but in actuality Ben is very lonely and has spent most of his life alone or being raised by other people which has caused him to put on a huge front to people and often times overcompensate in his social life, and Devi looks at other girls like they have it all and have 0 struggles or problems (I.e her views on Anissa) but Devi fails to realize thy also struggle, are insecure, is struggling with mental illness, and don’t have themselves figured out, and Devi is looking at this man her mom is “dating” as if he’s taking something away but In actuality he is experiencing his own losses. All in all Never Have I Ever gets teenage angst and messy problematic morally grey teenagers right and the fact that y’all beg for more “flawed or problematic” characters and when you get them you don’t like that they are just that it’s odd to me it seems like y’all only want problematic characters if it’s how you see fit.
TL;DR: Y’all need to stop acting like y’all weren’t gross annoying and had fuck ups as teenagers y’all should really stop pretending like teenagers in real and some of us as teens didn’t have/engage in relationships that weren’t good but we learned from it while this show isn’t real it shows y’all will scream let people fuck up and let them grow but you don’t actually mean it. Devi is a teenager and requires room to grow she even admits she acts out and is impulsive but y’all act like she’s supposed to have the self awareness of a 60 year old.

i'm not sure if you prefer more specific prompts but if you have any interest, something canon-era (compliant or divergence) in the realm of "ye baiyi & every- or anyone"? whichever characters you wanna include; a moment or moments where he feels like maybe there is a little more to the rest of his life than duty and death. it's not only warm food he's been starved of for decades. your writing is great, i hope you're having a good day!
hi! thank you sm! i love getting prompts regardless, honestly, the only difference is that more specific ones tend to get done faster if only bc I already have a loose idea where to go with it! anyway, this somehow turned into a fix-it. that being said, I hope you’re having a lovely day too!
*
i.
They’re so painfully young.
A bird chirps in a tree somewhere nearby and around the fire, Qin Huaizhang’s disciple throws the blanket on the Wen brat’s face. What set off his sensibilities this time, Ye Baiyi doesn’t know, it might have been the perceived coddling, it might have simply been the fussing– either way, it’s pointless. Does he not know the brat will simply wait until he’s asleep to cover him? Does he not know their ridiculous dance around each other is nothing but time wasted?
How do the young ever get anything done?
Foolish. Have they ever been that foolish? Changqing, he knows, was a most ridiculous man with even more ridiculous ideas– who’s the bigger idiot, then, the fool or the one who loves him?
“Ye-qianbei,” the boy appears at his side, wide-eyed like a newborn deer and with legs as shaky as one too, “if you’re cold, we have more blankets.”
The absurdity of the situation– to ask Ye Baiyi if he’s cold! What’s the night chill compared to the snowy grounds of his mountain? To him, is this not warm weather? “Little fool,” he says, shaking his head even as he laughs, “you’d do better worrying about your idiot master and his idiot friend.”
The kid looks across the fire, grimaces. “I don’t dare, I don’t dare! My brothers used to tell me not to get in the way when my parents were arguing!”
What a ridiculous child. Ye Baiyi laughs again. “They’re not arguing, they’re being dumb. Watch this,” he flicks a little rock at them, hitting Qin Huaizhang’s disciple in the forehead and earning an outraged glare from the Wen brat. “Qing Huaizhang’s disciple, your disciple is freezing off while you’re fooling around. Is this how you the two of you are going to raise your child?”
Beside him, the kid makes a startled little noise like a scared little rabbit before launching into a stuttering denial, but it’s too late, Qin Huaizhang’s disciple has already turned to focus on him as if smelling blood. “Chengling, are you cold? Why didn’t you say so?”
“Ah, no, no, I’m really not,” he tries, but he is, he wouldn’t have known to worry about others if he hadn’t been feeling the chill himself. “Ye-qianbei! Ye-qianbei–”
“Ah, ah!” Wen Kexing interrupts, shaking a finger in his direction, “why are you calling him? Come here, have this blanket since your Shifu is being stubborn.”
The boy goes obediently, shuffling around and nearly tripping on the log, and allows the Wen brat to wrap the blanket around his shoulders. Predictably, once he’s tucked in, the kid beams, pulling it tightly around himself.
“Chengling, if you’re cold, you have to tell us,” says Qin Huaizhang’s disciple as if that’s a scolding, as if he’s not fussing over the child himself, stoking the fire and throwing in more kindling.
A silly child with even sillier parents. Ye Baiyi snorts, shaking his head, and for a fleeting moment, he imagines walking this path alone– searching for the truth on his own, a silent forest stretching all the way to Longyuan Cabinet, only his footsteps left behind to prove he was even there at all– whatever. Picking up Qin Huaizhang’s dumb disciple and his dumb companions might not have been his worst decision so far.
Maybe he could have found the place already if he were on his own, but at the very least they’re entertaining. Ridiculous, he thinks fondly, shaking his head at the blanket the kid has left folded at his feet.

ii.
What a mess.
Rong Xuan, you little brat, he thinks. How long has it been since the boy had first toddled up to him, little hands grabbing fistfuls of his robes? Too many, an eternity, and now nearly all of the boy’s friends are dead, all but one, and Ye Baiyi has to pay his respects to this freshly dug grave in his place.
What a mess.
If you were in trouble, why didn’t you come back? Questions, questions, it’s too easy to ask them now. Why didn’t you ask for help? Why didn’t you send for us? Why did you think it would accomplish, running away? Stupid child, did you think we would turn you away?
No, there’s no use asking them now, no point in dwelling in the past. What is there to change, after it already happened? Life is a very long road and the past is a land too distant to travel back to; Ye Baiyi would rather focus on the now.
Avenging their child had not been part of the promise he made to Changqing, but Ye Baiyi found the truth of this matter as he told him he would and the truth of it is that someone poisoned his disciple, his child. This cannot go unpunished, so for a while longer, he’ll live.
Further still, a little ways down, is Wen Kexing, whose parents died for Rong Xuan’s mistakes. A child growing up in a harsh world on his own. This debt, he’ll repay too.
For all that he gives his promises away like currency, Ye Baiyi is not sure how he feels about the piling of them– they stretch his finally numbered days, always pushing the deadline further. After the Heroes Conference, he’ll be done with the Ghost Valley. After he finds Rong Xuan’s murderer, he’ll be done with this mess. After he repays Wen Kexing, he will be at peace.
And then–
Well. And then wine. Warm food. That was the plan, was it not? Heavens, he’s beginning to sound like Qin Huaizhang’s silly disciple, isn’t he? This won’t do. Changqing, even you would laugh at them. Tell me, then, if you were here, what would you do? Ah, something nonsensical, most likely, like go watch the plum trees bloom.
Ye Baiyi shakes his head, laughs. Changqing ah, won’t you tell me what to do? Maybe this time I’ll listen to you.
*
iii.
What kind of nonsense is this?
In all fairness, as much as his opinion of Wen Kexing has been as changing as the seasons, his uncanny ability to be an annoying nuisance has never flickered. He was annoying when he was staring down Ye Baiyi’s sword and he was annoying when he kneeled on the forest bed in apology and plea.
Surely, it’s no surprise that he is annoying now, allegedly dead.
And yet, Ye Baiyi had not anticipated this level of stupidity from him: the brat did not tell Qin Huaizhang’s disciple of his plan.
Children, honestly.
Now, the hem of his robes is wet and a few feet away, Qin Huaizhang’s disciple is wasting perfectly good wine in an unnecessarily dramatic manner. “Whatever stupid thing you’re planning,” Ye Baiyi says, eyeing the broken jar by the rocks, the dullness around the brat, “don’t.”
Zhou Zishu whirls on him with all the grace of a dying wet cat as if he’s in any condition to be fighting anyone, as if his hands weren’t shaking and his steps didn’t falter. The sword, once elegant and proud, wavers. Stupid boy. “Ye Baiyi, you–”
“Have you lost your manners down that jar? Or just your common sense? Put that away before I knock it off your hand myself,” he sighs, shaking his head. He should have stayed in his rooms, like planned, until the Heroes Conference; none of this has anything to do with him, his role in this play is mostly over, he just has to wait it out the intermission. And yet. “What kind of nonsense were you thinking? That fool, Wen Kexing, ran around for days like a headless chicken trying to save you and for what? You to throw it away?”
“What’s the point?” Qin Huaizhang’s disciple laughs, cold as the mountains, “what’s the point if he’s not here? Tell me, qianbei, why should I care to live if my soulmate is gone?”
His sword is dragging up the mud and Ye Baiyi wants to call him disrespectful for it, but the sight of it alone dredges up a well of grief that drowns the words in his throat. Why, indeed. This terrible emptiness, Ye Baiyi knows well– the hollow silence that comes where once a familiar voice called your name, the cold where once there was warmth, a hand never reaching back. Snow, all through summer and spring.
“Because that dumb disciple of yours will not last a day on his own,” he tells him, watching the water run towards the cliff’s edge, “because Qin Huaizhang has only you to pass on his legacy. Because that ridiculous hairpin on your head.”
“That’s not fair,” Qin Huaizhang’s disciple says, sounding exactly like he had been about to do something incredibly stupid earlier that would render this entire charade pointless from the start.
Truth be told, few things are, least of all, fate. Ah, but Ye Baiyi had unchanging decades to come to terms with that, perhaps he should spare the boy the heartache, unfounded as it is. “It’s not, but enough is enough. What are you crying for? Did you think it’s that easy to get rid of that pest? He should be ashamed if a little tumble is all it took.”
“Qianbei… you mean?”
Ye Baiyi heaves a pointedly tired sigh. “Yes, yes, the brat is alive. Probably holed up somewhere in that blasted valley of his.”
Qin Huaizhang’s disciple is as wide-eyed as his baby-deer disciple and if he actually starts crying, Ye Baiyi will drag Wen Kexing out of hiding kicking and screaming just to push him down the cliff again for making him witness this. He’s too old, he has little patience for the dramatics of the young, and he’s supposed to be drinking the best wine from the Yueyang area.
So before he’s pulled even further into their nonsense, Ye Baiyi turns away, back to town and his quarters where he can drink and meditate in peace and really, Qin-xiaozi, your disciple is even sillier than you.
At his back, he hears Zhou Zishu call, but his voice is lost to the waterfalls and Ye Baiyi makes no real effort to catch the words. What’s there to say? Pah, he’s already done more than his share on this, at no point did he promise to intervene on their pointless little dance. Once this is all over, that brat has better pay for all the wine in the land. And make those dumplings, too, for good measure.
*
iv.
Nobody told him whose wedding this is.
Considering they are in this thrice-damned place, he’s assuming it’s one of the ghosts, but Ye Baiyi figures the brat would be more annoying if it was his and Qin Huaizhang’s disciple’s. Then again, his own presence here is unfathomable, as is the insistence with which the little idiot had asked him to come. What on earth has Qin Huaizhang’s disciple told that child? Give someone an inch and they’ll take a mile, truly– now that boy is running around thinking Ye Baiyi cares about these lunatics.
“Who let him in!” Wen Kexing is screeching from somewhere, and Ye Baiyi mourns his peace as the brat approaches with his purple shadow trailing after. Had she been there this entire time? He squints. No, he would have noticed it, she’s very loud. “Old toad monster! Why are you still here? Who allowed you past the gates?”
“Who are you to tell me where to go?” He scoffs, flicking his sleeves as he crosses his arms. Nearby, a ghost hastily scurries away. “And it was your dumb disciple who begged me to be here. For what? Will there even be a banquet? And you call that decorations? That lantern is so crooked, it’s offensive!”
The purple child bristles. “Ah! And who does that silly boy think he is, inviting people to my wedding! Old man, you! Of course there’s gonna be food! Master and Luo-yi have been–”
“A-Xiang!” The brat cuts her off, closed fan tapping her forehead, as if everyone and their grandmothers don’t already know he’s been running around making preparations. What face is there to save, shameless as he is? If Ye Baiyi was a lesser man, he might have rolled his eyes. “Stop running your mouth, what is your husband going to say? And you! What crooked lantern? You’re going blind in your age!”
Still, even as he speaks, a pointed glare sends the ghosts scattering like mice, rushing to check on the decorations. Ridiculous. “No wonder the girl has no manners. What, you only know how to be polite when asking for something?”
Wen Kexing grumbles. “This one apologizes, qianbei.”
Well, that’s certainly worse. Unsettling. If even Wen Kexing starts being deferential, then what has the world come to? No, Ye Baiyi finds he’d prefer the brashness. Stupid child, what’s the point in changing his tune now? Pah. “Girl,” he says to that purple wisp of a thing, “your master is a pest. Where’s the wine?”
Baffling enough, the girl laughs, tugging at her master’s sleeves. “Master, master, Zishu-ge was right! You did make a friend!”
“What nonsense is this! Don’t you know when A-Xu is teasing? Friends! As if–”
“What rubbish have you been filling these children’s heads with?” He shakes a threatening finger in their direction. Not that it matters, considering the girl has already stepped back, giggling as she sidesteps Wen Kexing’s fan.
Leaving them to their childishness, Ye Baiyi slips out of the crowd, picking a jar of wine as he goes. The alcohol is good, burning down his throat, and he hadn’t thought he’d step foot in the Ghost Valley, not like this. Something in him will always recoil at this place, always lay the blame at the valley’s mouth, a yawning jaw that’s swallowed whole the people most precious to him with no mercy.
And yet, Changqing ah, you bastard, look at it. They’re holding a damned wedding, and here Ye Baiyi is, drinking their wine. Are you happy now? Did you become a bodhisattva yet? Fate makes fools of them all, there’s no way around it. He pours the wine over the rocks, lets it spill and run like blood. Xuan’er, did I not tell you not to climb so high? That shifu wouldn’t always be there to catch you if you slip on the ice? Ye Baiyi laughs at the memory– always clear in his mind, suspended in time, unfading, even if his sight blurs with tears– that boy, always scaring them half to death, climbing up the frozen mountainside as a child, then crying in fright once he looked down.
“Look at the mess you’ve both left me,” he says out loud, downing the rest of the wine, and the silence is never quite as loud as in the hollow space where another would speak. For so long, Ye Baiyi knew to leave room for Changqing’s teasing, for their child’s incessant questions, even Rong-furen’s tired voice. Then, nothing. “What do you have to say for yourself, hm? Typical. I’ll drink for all of us this time, then, how about it? Changqing, I’m keeping my promises, so you’d better keep yours or I’ll–”
The jar breaks where it falls from his fingers and he shakes his head as if dispelling the murky thoughts from his head. Perhaps, coming here was a mistake. The ashes have already been sent back to Changming, so what business does he have in this place? To see it closed with his own eyes? Besides, a wedding or two, a handful of people, are not worth the bloodshed creating the valley has brought, no matter what Changqing might say.
Is this a comforting story to be told later, if– by the bridge, in case–
His thoughts grind to a halt, veering off suddenly into attention to his surroundings. Someone is coming. Indeed, from his place near the entrance, Ye Baiyi can see in the distance a mob climbing up the path, silent as thieves in the night, with only a blue streak of disciples in plain sight at the front.
So much for avoiding bloodshed. Did they even wait for the dust to settle after the monks left town? And what kind of harebrained scheme is this? Has this generation been born with no brains? Such a reckless, petty move! No honor, agreeing to something and then plunging the knife behind their backs.
There is little time to curse their dishonesty, though, with their numbers fast approaching, so Ye Baiyi swipes a last look at the desolate landscape and slips back inside to sound the alarms. After all, heaven knows that little purple girl will be terribly loud if she doesn’t get her wedding, and Ye Baiyi is not looking forward to remembering what headaches feel like. Honestly, if these people would stop nearly dying for five fucking minutes–

v.
Today, the mirror showed a new patch of white hair, faint lines at the corner of his eyes.
Time, it seems, is catching up to him.
It’s exhilarating.
The plum trees have already lost their blossoms, winter gone as swiftly as it came, the cold melting to the lingering warmth of spring. Today, he walks past blooming azaleas, purple and red radiant against the blue backdrop of the sky.
It brings him to little Qin Huaizhang standing beside Rong Xuan, trying so very hard to impress his friend’s seniors with all the desperation of youth. The poetry he had waxed about his sect’s gardens– Four Seasons Manor, blooming all year round! Ye Baiyi had found him so silly, blabbering while Rong Xuan beamed, so quick to pick the fights Rong Xuan dropped.
At the time, had he not thought history was repeating itself, if kinder? The Baiyi sword, gifted with the promise to keep his dumb disciple out of trouble? He still remembers Changqing’s face, the hypocrite. So exchanging swords for cursed books is fine, but anything else and you draw the line? At least promises were as reliable as the person making them.
Now, he has to admit, the silly boy had not been wrong– Four Seasons Manor stands in more color than Ye Baiyi had thought possible. If he’ll have time to witness all its blooms, he doesn’t know, but this spring, he’s here, and isn’t that enough?
At the gates, the young disciple lets him in without a word, bowing respectfully like his seniors have never done. Good. At the very least, those two good-for-nothing brats had the decency to forewarn their juniors of his arrival. How long has it been since Qin Huaizhang’s disciple woke up from the procedure? Aiyah, Ye Baiyi can’t remember, he had been traveling south at the time.
Well, it’s long enough to be past the need for coddling, that’s for sure. “Qin Huaizhang’s disciple, what kind of Sect Leader are you that you won’t come greet your esteemed guest?”
“Not really a Sect Leader,” comes the voice from his left as Zhou Zishu rounds into view, his silly disciple trailing faithfully after him. He looks better now, death no longer draped over his shoulders like a shroud, smiling like he found peace somewhere in the months since that disastrous wedding. “Qianbei, this one is honored to welcome you to our house. You’ve come at a good time, A-Xiang is visiting with her husband too.”
“Who’s an esteemed guest here? All I’m hearing is a bunch of freeloaders!” says Wen Kexing from somewhere inside the building, just as loud and brash as always, and following his words, the thundering footsteps of children.
Ye Baiyi snorts, shakes his head. Changqing ah, wait a little while longer, will you? I’m on my way, but I have some places to visit first. Meet me by the bridge, I’ll tell you all about it in a bit.

Josh Lyman x Reader

Part One
Summary: The funeral arrives and everything seems to fall apart. Josh tries to keep his temper in check with Celia, but soon the reason behind their ongoing feud is revealed.
Notes: Josh is definitely one of my favorite fictional characters and it seems like more of you are liking his imagines. As always, comments are always welcome!- Side note: I know that it’s been forever since I posted part one to this, and I’m very sorry. I hope to be writing for more West Wing, including more characters.
-
It was just like he would have wanted. The morning was bright and sunny and began with laughter. Josh was standing in the kitchen with your mother and something he had said made her laugh, making the rest of you feel a little lighter on a day that would leave a great deal of weight on your hearts. It’s how your dad would have wanted his funeral to start. Not with sorrow, but with the sense of being together.
Your mother made blueberry pancakes for breakfast using your dad’s famous recipe and  the three of you had coffee on the porch. Celia and Thomas were still asleep, so there was no danger of an argument breaking out for now.
“It’s a beautiful day.” Marissa hummed, taking a sip of her coffee. Josh nodded in agreement, wrapping an arm around your shoulders, drinking in the morning sun as it rose over the trees.
“How are you feeling?” He whispered as you rested your head on his shoulder. You shrugged.
“Best that I can be, I guess.” He nodded in understanding and sweetly kissed the top of your head.
“I’ll be here the whole time.” You placed a hand on his leg, drawing circles on the denim. You loved it when he wore jeans. It made him feel like he was yours for the day and not rushing off to assist in a national crisis. But even now, he was still the Deputy Chief of Staff.
You probably noticed his pager buzzing before he did. He looked at you mournfully, his tone apologetic. “I’ve got a call from Leo.”
You gave him a small smile and a node. “You better take it.”
He moved out onto the lawn for some privacy and your mother gave your hand a gentle pat.
“You picked a good one.” She smiled. You both watched as he ran a hand down his face, his expression morphing from saddened to angered to calm in a matter of seconds.
“Is he seriously working right now?” Your sister’s shrill criticizing voice emerged from inside the house.
“He’s the Deputy Chief of Staff for the President,” You scoffed, “the world didn’t stop just because he’s here.”
“Sorry, I forgot. Not all of us are lowly small town journalists like me and dad.”
“Are you serious, right now?”
“No, you’re right, I’m sure it’s a matter of national security.” She spat and you stood up from the swing.
“It very well could be!” You shouted. You wanted to slap her. Who was she to criticize Josh?
“Girls!” Your mother finally interjected. You both turned your heads towards her and you immediately felt guilty, seeing the tears welling up in her eyes. “Don’t do this today. Please.”
“Sorry mom.” You both said, hanging your heads. While you could feel everything start to burn up in your chest, you pushed it down. You had to be strong today. Luckily, your own pager went off before any more arguing could occur.
“Hey Sam.” You sighed in greeting, grateful for a distraction.
“Hey, how are you doing?” His voice was sympathetic and sweet. Typical Sam.
“Okay, all things considered.” You laughed lightly, hoping to keep the conversation from getting too emotional. “How are things there?”
“Crazy as usual.” He chuckled. “I just wanted to call and check in.” There was something in his tone that told you there was more.
“Sam… something is wrong with the speech, isn’t there?”
“Well,” He blew out a breath, “Since you pushed it back, we’re speaking after Congress is handing us our asses which means that Toby needed to make some changes so we don’t sound like-”
“Kids trying to start a fight on the playground?” You finished. Josh had said the same thing.
“Yeah…”
You thought for a moment, but couldn’t focus on any one thing. “Just make sure that he sounds like we’re still coming out on top.” It was the only thing you could do.
“We’ll try.” He paused, but you already knew what he was going to say. “And Y/N-”
“I know.” You smiled slightly to yourself. “Thanks Sam.”
You strolled along the wrap-around porch, hoping to avoid Celia for at least a few more minutes, telling yourself it was the stress of the day. She would cool off eventually.
“I hope everything is doing okay.” Your mother’s comforting tone helped to calm you down. You shrugged.
“As okay as it ever is.” She nodded with understanding. She knew how messy the political world was. It didn’t stop because someone died.
Josh came back, the stress clear on his face. When he locked eyes with you, he tried to brighten up, but you could tell that there was something weighing down on his shoulders. You implored him with a look, but he shrugged it off.
“The usual.” He whispered, draping his arm around you again. “Don’t worry about it.” He turned to your mother with a sad smile. “Leo McGarry and The President send their deepest sympathies.”
“I appreciate that.” She nodded and looked out over the orchards. How was she so strong through all of this? You felt ready to fall apart at the seams, but your mother was the picture of grace. She always did everything for everyone else and now she wasn’t giving herself the chance to grieve.
Celia had gone inside to make calls to the funeral home and Thomas was in town picking up groceries. He wanted there to be one less thing for all of you to worry about.
With a few hours until the funeral, all you wanted was to make it through the day without any more arguments. Josh had a few more calls with Leo and did his best to hide it from your judgmental sister but there was still that tension between them. You took a few sympathy calls from Donna and C.J.- both of whom were very kind in expressing their regrets in not being able to make it to the funeral.
It was about noon when the President called. Your mother must have spent an hour talking to him in her office before she came back into the living room, passing off the phone to you.
“Good afternoon, Mr. President.” You started, forcing yourself to keep it together.
“I’m sorry I didn’t catch you the other day before you and Josh left.” He sighed. “I wanted to give my condolences in person.”
“My family and I appreciate it nonetheless, sir.”
“I am truly sorry for your loss, Y/N.” His fatherly tone made you want to cry. Truthfully, you’d always seen President Bartlet as your work-father more than your boss. “Bill was a good man and a good friend.”
“He would have been honored to hear you say that, sir.” There was a long moment of silence between the two of you as you both let those words sink in before he concluded.
“He was always very proud of you, Y/N. I hope you know that.”
Your breathing hitched as you held back a cry. “Thank you, Mr. President.” As you hung up, you tried to keep the tears from falling. Your quiet moment to yourself was interrupted by the sounds of whispers growing into shouts on the front porch. Celia and Josh.
As you approached, their words became more and more clear.
“When are you going to stop treating her like a child?”
“I’m sorry, but I figured I would let her go on thinking that her sister is a crazy lunatic!”
“Keep your voice down! She’ll hear you.”
“Let her hear, Celia.” Josh’s voice became a growl. “Let her hear that after all these years, you’ve just been jealous of everything that she’s been able to accomplish and you couldn’t.”
“I don’t know why we’re even having this conversation.” Celia scoffed. You opened the door a crack and watched her step closer to him. “I’m not jealous, Josh. I’m right. Y/N has had everything handed to her since the day she was born. She doesn’t deserve her job.. And she doesn’t deserve you.”
“You’ve got to be kidding.” Josh ran a hand down his face and turned away, but she was persistent.
“We met first, Josh. We started seeing each other and then you fell for her little charms just like everybody else.”
“You two were seeing each other?” You gasped, finally stepping out from behind the door. Josh let out a frustrated groan.
“No, honey, we weren’t-”
“Is that why you two are at each other’s throats all the time? Because you were together?”
“We were never together!” He exclaimed. He reached to put his hands on your shoulders, but you stepped away, staring down your older sister.
“You really think I don’t deserve my job… my husband… my life?”
She said nothing. Her mouth formed a thin line as she gave you a silent, hard stare. You wanted to slap her. You wanted to scream. Instead, the sky let out a low, tumbling growl of thunder that served as the final straw. You looked up at the darkened clouds as the first raindrop landed on your cheek.
“No no no no no. This isn’t what he would have wanted.” You cried, holding out a hand as more water fell. “It’s supposed to be sunny and beautiful and… and…”
“Y/N,” Josh started, but you didn’t hear him.
“I can’t deal with this right now.” Was all you said as you took off down the steps and towards the road. You didn’t know what to think, but the rain hitting your skin was enough to fuel your fury to hide your sadness.
“Where is she going?” Marissa asked, feeling the tension in every thunder roll. Josh slammed his hand against the porch railing.
“I don’t know. But I’ll take care of it.” He gave Celia a glare that could halt an army before running after you.
-
You ended up in an old tool shed somewhere in the orchard, your cries drowned out by the rain pounding against the wooden walls. Your clothes were soaked but you didn’t care. There was just an hour until the funeral and the storm didn’t show any sign of stopping. This was all wrong.
Your dad was the only one who could have fixed this mess. Whenever either you or your husband fought with Celia, he was the one that could settle everyone down and make you all laugh until your sides hurt. What if you never laughed like that again?
The rain turned into a soft- but consistent- drizzle and you were sure you heard the sound of a car approaching the shed. You heard your husband calling your name before you even opened the door.
“How did you know I’d be here?”
He gave you a long, sad look. “When you ran off, your mother said it’d be best if I took a car so we’d have someplace warm to sit and talk. She said you’d probably come here.” He opened the passenger door of his car and just waited.
Instead of running into the warm heat of the car, you ran into his arms. While you felt like you had no more tears to shed, your body just shook with silent sobs. After a while, he picked you up and put you in the car, quickly going over the driverseat so he could take you in his embrace again.
“I feel so stupid.” You sniffed. “We’re supposed to be mourning dad and I’m running off like a child.”
“Don’t beat yourself up.” He muttered into your hair. “Grief does something to our heads… everyone has to deal with it.” He pulled away to look at you. “I shouldn’t have argued with Celia.”
“No.” You shook your head. “No, I’m glad I know what she really thinks of me. Of us.”
He pushed a hair behind your ear and gave you a small smile. “You have to know that I would never hide something like that from you unless I thought it didn’t matter. Celia and I got drinks one time before I met you and now she likes to hold it over my head.” He sighed. “And don’t beat yourself up about what she said. You’re one of the hardest working, badass women that I know. You deserve everything that you’ve built.”
He kissed your forehead and you fell into silence again. Without any words, he knew that you believed him about Celia and that the whole thing was blown out of proportions by your sister’s need for attention. He just hoped that you and Celia could start over. As much as he despised her most of the time, he knew what it was like to lose a sister.
“Why don’t we head back to the house and try and dry off before the funeral?” He suggested softly. You just nodded, laying your head on his shoulder as he drove back to your childhood home.
-
It wasn’t the sunny day that you wanted it to be. Everyone stood with black umbrellas and somber faces and you did your best to keep it together. Josh held your hand the whole way through, his support not faltering for a single second. You knew this couldn’t be easy for him either and yet he was your rock through all of it.
The clouds blocked the sun for the rest of the day but you told yourself that it was okay. They were the cloud-kingdoms your father always talked about. The ones he wrote in those little books tucked away in the house. And you took comfort in the fact that you knew, now, that he was up there with them.

Vega + Chifuyu
(just a selfship post for Self-Ship Monday)
(vega + chifuyu= vuyu it’s canon)
Tumblr media
chifuyu is the perfect boyfriend- so attentive and caring. makes sure I feel loved, everyday. even when he’s not near. he’ll leave little post-it notes on the bathroom mirror saying “you look beautiful”, “i love you so much”, “i’m so proud of you”.
chifuyu would absolutely love going everywhere and anywhere with me. taking a random drive at night in the city, the stars shining brightly above us and the moonlight dripping along the horizon as it says good night to the sun.
random grocery shopping trips- he’d always sit in the shopping cart and make me push him a down the aisles as he picked up every sweet he could find but he’d still look at me and say “but nothing is sweeter than you, princess”
walk around the park as the suns golden rays dipped and sewed themselves along the falling horizon. whenever he looked cute i would take his picture and he would smile at me and said in soft spoken tones “i should be taking your picture- you’re the most beautiful thing i’ve seen today”
he’d take me on dates to the fair and we’d ride the ferris wheel to the top and he’d tell me “i would give you the whole night sky if it were possible” as he kissed my forehead. he try all the games to win me the plushies cause he knows i like to cuddle them when he’s gone. he’d get all pouty when he doesn’t win and makes kazutora try (which he wins instantly) and fuyu would take the prize and say “look! i did it!” and completely ignore kazus accomplishment (he would thank him later though).
he’d take me on picnics with a meal he packed himself, and he’s so proud of it too. he’d ask me to lay on his lap so he could feed me grapes as we sit under the big oak tree at the park, soft grass tickling our feet.
he loves to steal me away from cooking dinner to just dance in the kitchen. no music has to be playing, he just wants to hold me and sway along to the comfortable silence we’ve enveloped ourselves in. or he’d play love songs from the 20’s because “that’s when love was real in music and our love is real, and deserves the best.”
we’d lay on the couch together, not saying anything just relaxing in each other’s presence as he flips through a manga and I’m typing away on my laptop, writing a new story idea I got while staying up too late in his arms the night before.
he’d comfort me through every anxiety attack and moment of weakness I had. he’d understand that certain things are triggering for me because of events that happened in my past and he’d always be so careful around me at those times. asking if it was okay to hold me, or if i needed a tissue to wipe my tears or if I just wanted some silence.
we’d cuddle every night because he can’t fall asleep unless the last thing he feels his my warm skin against his as he mumbles about how much he loves me.
Chifuyu is the perfect boyfriend- although completely inexperienced, he’s always willing to learn and I’ll guide him in more intimate moments-
“like this Vega? am I making you feel good baby?”
he’d want to learn how to pleasure me and learn every crevice of my body. how to properly pleasure me since I was the experienced one. he’d listen to and remember everything I said and each time in bed together would be better than the previous. He’d grow his tolerance and ability to hold it together as his thick cock rammed in and out of me
“such a good girl. look how good you’re taking me now. so wet for me Vega.”
He knows that I love him so and I’ll tell him everyday until forever.
“I love you ‘fuyu. you’re my whole”
“I love you more my princess. If I’m you’re whole world, you’re my whole galaxy- and the brightest star at that.”

Don’t Speak- Part 2
// Zuko x reader soulmate au
// part 1 here
// part 3 here
//warnings: none
Tumblr media
You slipped your cuff off and your own words came to light. The words on yours and Zuko’s wrists began to turn golden from the inside, shining brighter and brighter until the words disappeared from your wrists in a blaze of light, confirming the worst.
You and Prince Zuko really were soulmates.
Except, after seeing what he was capable of, you knew you’d never love him.
“Lotty,” you started quietly, keeping your eyes trained on Zuko. “There’s a sack of gold coins hidden in the back of my dresser. Go get it and leave this place as quickly as you can.”
“But, (Y/N)-”
“Do it. Now.”
Without another word, Lotty scurried from the clearing, leaving you and the prince alone. For a minute, the two of you just stared at each other, Zuko’s gaze full of shock.
“You know,” you started. “It makes me wonder what kind of person I am if I have you as my soulmate.”
Zuko stumbled backwards, like the words were a literal blow to his chest. “I’m- I’m sorry! I didn’t know-”
You scoffed. “If you had known, would it have changed anything? Would you have let her go?”
Zuko stayed silent.
“That’s what I thought.” You sneered, turning away. “You’re just as cruel as the rest of your family.”
When you turned back around, Zuko was gone.
That night, dinner was... tense, to say the least.
“I apologize that dinner was so late, Prince Zuko. We haven’t been able to find our head maid.” Your mother said.
At the mention of Lotty, you glared at Zuko.
Zuko swallowed uncomfortably, shooting you a glance. “Yes, um, that is unfortunate.” It seemed Zuko would keep your secret- for now.
“If only it could have been avoided,” you said suddenly, glaring daggers at Zuko. Your parents raised their eyebrows in surprise, seeing that you were finally speaking to the prince, who looked flushed and extremely uncomfortable. Your father shot you a look and quickly changed the subject.
“I hope you’ve had a pleasant stay so far. I saw you were exploring the gardens earlier. I’m afraid I have no talent with gardening; I’m lucky to have such a gifted wife.” You father remarked, smiling at your mother.
“They are very beautiful.” Zuko said softly.
Your mother blushed with pride. “I’ve had lots of help. (Y/N) is a very proficient gardener as well. Perhaps they could continue gardening at the palace.”
You choked on your food in surprise. “Mother!” Your mother raised an eyebrow, as if, now that you and the prince were speaking, your engagement was practically guaranteed. She looked to Zuko, no doubt expecting some a look of agreement, but was met with his flushed face and uncomfortable silence.
Your father cleared his throat. “How about dessert?”
You stood up from the table suddenly. “I’m sorry, I think I’m still sick from yesterday. If you don’t mind, I’ll retire early to my room.” And before your parents could object, you scurried from the room as fast as you could.
“Please excuse (Y/N)... they can be very headstrong.” You heard your mother say weakly as you walked out. You stopped in the door, turning around briefly and catching Zuko’s molten gaze.
His eyes glittered with regret. “I know.” He said quietly.
~~~
Sitting in the quiet light of a flickering candle, a book laid flat before you, you tried to calm down. Thinking about Zuko and what he had done to Lotty still made you seethe with anger. Taking deep breaths, you thought of peaceful memories: taking walks on the beach with your friends, tending to the garden with your mother, going into town with Lotty-
You smacked your book shut with a bang. Fresh anger reignited in your chest at the thought of Lotty, knowing she was gone- at the hands of the prince, no less. Moving to the window, you took in a full breath of the clear night air, letting your feelings ebb away with each cycle of air that filled your lungs.
Suddenly, a knock came at the door.
A sigh escaped your lips. It was probably your mother there to ask you about Zuko- and that was the last thing you wanted to talk about. “Go away, mother. I’m not feeling well.” You called.
“It’s actually me. Can I come in?” Zuko’s hopeful voice answered.
You groaned and trudged over to the door, yanking it open with an unnecessary amount of force. Zuko stood on the other side. “What do you want?” You growled.
“I came to talk to you. I wanted to apologize for what happened earlier.”
You scoffed. “Sure you do. Now, if you’ll excuse me-“ you went to close the door, but Zuko pushed against it, staring down at you with yearning.
“Please,” he whispered, his face inches from yours. “At least let me explain.”
Your face burned at the feel of Zuko so near. He was so close you felt as if his warmth was hugging you, pulling you into him and hypnotizing you into never leaving. You looked away. Snap out of it! You yelled at yourself. Don’t forget what he’s done. Who he is.
But yet... his face seemed so genuine...
You stepped back from the door and crossed your arms. “You have five minutes.”
Zuko smiled briefly and nodded, stepping into the room. He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “First off, I’m sorry that you saw me act the way I did earlier. What you saw wasn’t me. I mean, it was, but not the real me- anyways...” He took a deep breath, looking up to capture your gaze. For a moment, he stared into your eyes, like he could convey everything he was trying to say with a look. You glared and turned away, refusing to feel any sympathy for him.
“I think you know how the Fire Nation corrupts people,” Zuko started. “It takes good people and fills them with hatred towards the rest of the world. I’ve seen it firsthand, when I was banished. We’ve always been taught that it’s the Fire Nations’ job to share its success with the world, to help the nations less fortunate than itself. But the rest of the world doesn’t see us as saviors; they see us as killers.” Zuko glanced up briefly. “In the royal family, we were taught that to the extreme. After all, it would be my job one day to continue my ancestors’ legacy- to take over the world and finish the mission they started. When I was tasked with capturing the Avatar, I saw it as just one more accomplishment to add to my legacy as Fire Lord. I thought that it would make me honorable- in the eyes of my father, my family, my nation. I thought it would make me worthy to be Fire Lord.”
You felt your arms loosen slightly, a drop of pity filling your heart alongside anger.
“When I was accepted back to the Fire Nation, I thought I’d finally be happy. I had everything I wanted! My father was proud of me. I should have been happy. But I wasn’t. I was- and am- angrier than ever and I don’t know why!” His voice rose in pitch until he was yelling, fists clenched by his side. He looked up, catching your apprehensive expression, and shuddered with guilt. “I didn’t mean to do what I did today. I really didn’t. But being here- in the Fire Nation again- it’s turned me into a person I don’t recognize.”
“I’m sorry,” you whispered. Zuko looked up at you, lips parted in surprise. You wrapped your arms around your torso, averting your gaze so he wouldn’t see the pity in your eyes. “I understand how you feel. Sometimes things get so twisted here that you don’t know what’s real anymore.”
Zuko nodded silently. You took a deep breath, hating yourself for not hating Zuko, and continued. “You know, I had a brother.”
Zuko’s eyes widened. Your eyes fluttered close, the familiar wave of sorrow washing over you at your brother’s memory. “Jin-Yan. He was five years older than me. Before he-“ you stopped, taking another breath to quell the tremor in your voice. “Before he died, I believed everything the Fire Nation taught us. I thought that we were the greatest nation in the world. But when my brother turned 18, he was drafted to go to war. We were all so proud.” You shook your head. “Six months after he left, he came home for the Winter Solstice celebration and told me everything. About the thousands of people dying because of the Fire Nation. How whole cities are being burned to the ground. I’d heard stories growing up, but I’d never believed them until he told me. He said that the war wasn’t bringing prosperity to the world like we were taught; it was bringing destruction.”
“What happened to him?” Zuko asked softly, a hint of fear in his voice.
Hatred hardened the lines of your face. “They asked him to kill an innocent child, just because she was an earth bender. He refused. They were going to force him to do it anyways, so he deserted. The general caught him in less than an hour. That very same night, Jin-Yan was executed for treason.” A single angry, hot tear trickled down your cheek.
Suddenly, Zuko was beside you, a warm hand on your shoulder. “I’m so sorry.” He said softly.
You ripped your shoulder out of his grasp and turned away. “Don’t act like you’re sorry when we both know you don’t mean it. Just this morning you were ready to take another member of my family to her execution. You’re no better than the general.”
“I know,” he whispered.
You whipped around to him, heart stammering. You don’t what you’d expected from him, but you certainly hadn’t expected him to agree with you.
“I meant it when I said I was sorry, (Y/N). What I did today was wrong. I can only promise you that I’m trying to be better, and ask for your forgiveness.” Zuko vowed, golden eyes boring into yours.
You turned away so you wouldn’t have to face the sincerity in his gaze. Wrapping your arms around yourself, you squeezed your eyes shut to block out the voices telling you to forgive him, telling you that he was genuine. But then you remembered Jin-Yan, his voice whispering in your mind not to trust anything or anyone in the Fire Nation, and your willingness to forgive disappeared.
“I can’t.” You whispered, turning to meet his gaze again.
Zuko simply nodded. “I understand.”
You meant it. You didn’t forgive him. But he was so close, his scent a delicious drug as it filled your nostrils, that your body leaned into him of its own accord. Zuko glanced down to your lips, breath hitching quietly, and placed a tentative hand on your jaw as he leaned in-
“(Y/N), darling, are you awake? I want to speak with you.” Your mother’s voice sounded from the other side of the door. Instantly Zuko and you sprang apart, clearing your throats uncomfortably and doing your best to hide your twin blushes.
“I-I’m awake. Can you come back later, please?” You called back to your mother, your voice weak.
“(Y/N), you can’t ignore me fore-“ your mother pushed open the door and stopped in her tracks when she saw Zuko. Her mouth dropped open. “Prince Zuko!”
Zuko’s face blushed to match his robes as he bowed deeply. “Mrs. (L/N). If you and (Y/N) need to talk, I was just about to leave-“
“There’s no need for that, I’ll just come back some other time-“
“Mother!” You hissed, giving her a look.
Your mother smiled sheepishly. “I’ll leave you two alone. Goodnight, (Y/N). Prince Zuko.” She curtsied to Zuko and exited quietly.
You groaned and collapsed into the closest chair, hands shielding your face from having to meet Zuko’s gaze. To your surprise, however, Zuko started to chuckle.
“What?!” You cried, looking up from your hands. Zuko was smiling down at you like you were the most precious thing in the universe. Seeing his grin, you swore your heart skipped a beat.
“Your family. They’re nice.”
You buried your face in your hands again. “They’re embarrassing. I’m sorry you had to witness that.”
“Don’t apologize. It’s kind of... nice, I guess, to see a normal family.”
You looked up once more. “What do you mean?”
Zuko glanced at you then looked away, his gaiety disappearing. “Nothing. Just forget it.”
Crossing your arms, you rose and gave Zuko a pointed look. “It’s not nothing. Tell me the truth.”
Zuko glanced at you again, his cheeks reddening even deeper. “My mother is dead. Or at least, I think she is. And my father...” he trailed off. He didn’t need to explain for you to understand. The Firelord was a cruel and ruthless ruler; you couldn’t imagine having him as a father.
“I’m sorry.” You said, this time you putting your hand on his shoulder to comfort him. Except Zuko didn’t push you away.
“It’s getting late.” He finally said after a moment of silence.
You nodded and pulled away, your hand strangely cold after being in contact with his warm skin. “Yeah. I should probably go to sleep.”
“Probably. “He moved to the door to leave, but before he could go, you caught him by the arm.
“Zuko-“ you started. He raised an eyebrow. “I didn’t mean what I said. About you being cruel.”
Surprise pushed Zuko’s eyebrows upwards, but his shock quickly melted into warmth. “Thank you.”
Your hand trailed off of his arm. “Goodnight, Zuko.” You whispered. He smiled faintly, eyes glittering, and turned down the hall. You watched his figure recede into the blackness of night, shivering as the last glimpse of his amber eyes disappeared into the dark.
When he was finally gone, you crawled into your bed to sleep, but you knew you would be awake all night. Your heart was thumping wildly and you were jittery, like you’d been electrified. A sense of dread settled deep inside of you. Every moment you were with Zuko, your hatred sifted away like grains of sand on a desert dune. Your heart kept betraying you; beating too fast and making you do stupid things like almost kiss him. Despite your best efforts, you couldn't help but like him.
You glared at the wall, pushing your feelings deep down into your stomach. Even if he was your soulmate, he was still destined to be Firelord- which meant that one day, he would continue the era of killing and destruction his ancestors had brought down on the globe. His apology was sincere, but it was no guarantee that he was the person he claimed he was trying to be. You’d simply have to try harder not to like him; because, soulmates or not, you could never stand by someone who would only bring evil to the world.
~~~
“Get up.” A voice snapped you out of your dreams. “Get up!” The voice yanked your covers off of you.
“What- mother!” You cried incredulously, launching upwards with the sudden cold. “I’m in my night-wear!”
“Oh, hush. Now, get dressed, and quickly.”
“Why?” You frowned, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes.
“Because,” your mother said, throwing you a ceremonial robe. “The Fire Lord has requested your presence at the palace.”

Sweet Pea and Fangs//Mission Accomplished
Request: If you're busy you can ignore this. I really like your poly! Fangs and Sweet Pea and I was wondering if you could do another one. Maybe about what being a family with them would be like. (You know like what kind of fathers would they be.) Thanks!
hey!! this was super cute to write! i hope you like it!
Tumblr media
- Okay, so lets just say right now
- They would be the best dads in the world
- And you can bet that they both have mugs with ‘best dad in the world’ written on them
- Which they of course use literally every day
- So much so, that you have to replace them every couple of months
- Usually because Sweet Pea puts his down on a table to aggressively
- Or because Fangs doesn’t stir coffee, he bashes the spoon from side to side until he breaks the mug, the spoon, and occasionally himself.
- Anyway
- So lets say you got pregnant at like 24/25ish
- All three of you had moved out of Riverdale
- Because I mean lets be real, its not the safest place to start a family
- With the murderers and the cults and the gangs and literally everything else
- Plus, it had been Sweet Pea and Fangs’ dream to get out of the southside and riverdale and to have a better life than their parents did
- So all three of you have stable jobs that you love
- And a cute little apartment
- Filled with photos of the three of you
- And so many memories of your life together
- Including some random dog statue that Fangs found in the skip behind the apartment complex
- To this day you and Sweet Pea have no idea why he was there in the first place
- But you think the scratches on his hands, face and neck had something to do with it
- And so many plants
- So basically you’re parents already...right?
- Anywayyyyyy
- So, you guys were doing pretty good
- Vey, very happy together
- And you’d just come back from visiting Toni and Cheryl and their new baby girl
- Who is adorable by the way
- So you’d be chilling at home
- You and Sweet Pea watching something on Netflix
- While Fangs cooks dinner (its his turn and he’s the best cook)
- And you’d notice Sweet Pea and Fangs exchanging looks
- So you’d be suspicious
- And eventually, after the two of them giving each other very odd looks all throughout dinner, you’ve had enough.
- ‘okay. what’s going on?’
- ‘we wanna have a baby’ Fangs would blurt out and you and Sweet Pea’s eyes would both go wide.
- ‘what?’ you’d look between the two of them
- Fangs is pushing the last bit of food around the plate
- Sweet Pea is refusing to make eye contact with either of you, finding the ceiling fascinating
- While you’re tapping your foot against the floor
- ‘hello? anyone care to expand?’
- And Sweet Pea would sigh, and tear his gaze from the ceiling, settling on you.
- ‘fine. we’ve both been thinking about it for a whil-’
- ‘and then we went to see toni and cheryl and their kid is so cute and they look so happy and we want to start a family with you’ Fangs would interrupt.
- Of course you’d also thought about having kids.
- Sweet Pea and Fangs are the love of your life
- They’re who you want to spend the rest of your life with
- Plus you’ve been dating since you were like 16, so it makes sense
- But it was difficult enough for Toni and Cheryl to have a baby
- This is going to be complicated
- Both of them will obviously be this kids dad...
- But what if when its born the other gets jealous?
- What if they feel like they’re not properly apart of it?
- Would you even find out who the biological dad was?
- Or would you just leave it?
- What about when the kid is older?
- There’s already enough stigma about kids having two moms or two dads
- What about one with two dads and one mom?
- So, you’d all sit down after dinner and talk about everything
- The possible problems
- How you would raise it
- If you’re all ready
- And you’d finally figure it out
- Well, the best that you could anyway
- But in the end you’d figured that you’d all be alright because you had each other
- So then the fun bit ;)
- You’d be trying for a few months
- Much to the happiness of Fangs and Sweet Pea
- They weren’t complaining
- And then when you do get pregnant
- Holy fuck are they happy
- Like literally jumping around, hugging each other, hugging you
- They’re literally the happiest people ever
- The first thing they do is call Toni
- Because well, they have to tell their best friend that she’s going to be an aunt.
- And a few minutes later, Cheryl texts you a video of Toni on the phone, jumping up and down as they tell her.
- Anyway, so once they’ve calmed down they instantly go into protective mode.
- Like
- ‘oh, sit down. standing up is not good for the baby.’
- ‘what?’
- ‘do you need a drink? food? a nap? a hug?’
- ‘i’m good’
- And you think this is just going to last for a few days
- But no
- This continues all through the pregnancy
- And afterwards tbh
- They are so protective
- You always sleep in the middle so they can both keep you two safe
- Even if it is a nightmare when you need to pee
- Fangs did suggest a bucket by the bed but you and Sweet Pea both agreed that was too far
- They go to all the scans
- And cry
- Every. Single. Time
- Sweet Pea’s suggests going to the baby classes
- Even though you’re kind of unsure of what people will say
- But you go
- And its surprisingly, okay
- You get a few strange looks
- But who the hell cares
- And Sweet Pea and Fangs both have their own little notebooks that they’re furiously scribbling notes in
- And they always take turns to practice on the fake babies
- Plus, before you all go to bed the three of you will read baby books, occasionally swapping them every so often.
- ‘did you know that new-borns are short sighted’
- ‘ha, four eyed loser’
- ‘i’m sorry. how old are you sweet pea?’
- So they’re just the sweetest
- And every time they come back from work they aways have something for the baby
- Literally. Every. Time
- No matter what.
- ‘how many shoes do you think this baby is going to need?’
- ‘i don’t even think babies need shoes, at least not for the first few months’
- ‘no baby needs this many leather jackets.’
- ‘yeah, but its got a snake on the back! how could i just leave it there?’
- ‘where did you find a leather jacket for a baby with a snake on the back?’
- ‘...the serpents made it for us.’
- And they buy the most weird stuff
- Like you’re getting amazon packages every other day
- The neighbors think you guys are doing something illegal
- Sweet Pea buys a baby grow that has labels for where the arms and legs go
- And when you ask him why
- ‘its for fangs. i’m just helping him out’
- So in retaliation, Fangs buys one with instructions of where to feed the baby and where to change it
- Also this doesn’t stop when your baby is born, they’re still buying stupid t-shirts with stupid slogans on well into its 20s
- Your favourite thing they’ve bought is definitely the fake tattoo sleeve
- So, you’re keeping the gender a surprise
- Because who cares
- So you’re going for like a yellow or gray nursery
- And Sweet Pea and Fangs are insisting on doing it all them selves
- The painting
- The furniture
- The little accessories
- Everything
- Needless to say you hear a huge crash within five minutes of them starting
- So you do it together instead
- You start painting while they put the crib together
- There’s some left over screws at the end but they decide against telling you that
- It looks stable enough
- And just to make sure, Fangs tested it out...and got stuck
- They make sure to take tons of pictures throughout the entire pregnancy
- Much to your annoyance
- ‘I’ve just thrown up for the third time in five minutes...stop taking my damn picture.’
- ‘i want to capture every moment’
- ‘why!?!?’
- But you love the majority of them
- There’s some of you by yourself
- Some of them with you and one of them
- Others with the three of you together
- Both of them looking at you like you’re their entire world
- (which you are)
- And there’s a few pictures of just the two of them with fake pregnancy bellies on, in the style of a professional photo shoot
- Another late night Amazon purchase
- Which when you opened you were...confused to say the least.
- When you’re nearing your due date they make sure at least one person is with you at all times, just in case you go into labour
- And that works, until the day you actually go into labour and you’re alone
- Fangs is at work and Sweet Pea had to run to the store to get ice cream and snacks
- And then it happens
- You’re panicking but trying not to, but its not working
- Sweet Pea comes back and then he sees your panicked face and he drops the food and almost himself to be honest
- He’s running around trying to find your bag and his bag and Fangs’ bag
- And you’re trying to ring Fangs but he’s not answering
- Sweet Pea eventually gets through to him when you guys get the hospital and you can hear Fangs screaming down the phone
- He makes it there in five minutes, even though he works at least fifteen minutes away
- They’re on either side of you
- Both panting and telling you to breathe
- Basically they are being ridiculous
- And very unhelpful
- Especially when the breathing is mainly to calm themselves down
- And then Sweet Pea gets distracted, blows a rubber glove up and it pop’s
- And to be honest the fright it gave you, you thought you’d given birth
- But when its time for you to start pushing they’re right next to
- Holding your hands
- Saying so many nice things
- Being so sweet and supportive
- And they also take a moment to hug each other while they watch
- Like they’re crying
- At one point Fangs just screams
- ‘i told you not to look down there’ Sweet pea scolds
- ‘does it go back to normal?’ Fangs would ask
- ‘god, i hope so’ You’d groan in pain
- But then your daughter is born and they’re smitten
- This tiny little life is theirs
- And it relies on them for everything
- And they’re so proud of you
- Literally they’re heart is going to burst with love and pride for you
- They love her so much
- And instantly take their roles very seriously
- The first night they let you sleep because well you’ve just given birth, you need a rest
- And it gives them a chance to bond
- They take turns holding her
- And feeding her
- And just talking to her
- ‘we’re you’re dads’ Fangs would whisper
- ‘i’m sweet pea. nice to meet you.’
- ‘what are you doing?’
- ‘introducing myself. i have to make a good impression, and we need to teach her manners’
- ‘shit, you’re right. hello, i’m fangs, your other dad...do i like, shake her hand?’
- ‘hmmm, yeah. i think she’s too young for a high-five’
- ‘thats your mom over there. she’s asleep at the minute so we have to be really quiet, but she loves you so much...and so do we. you’re our entire world’
- They’re so gentle with her
- And with you
- When you get home, the three of you show her around her new home
- And show her all the pictures on the walls, explaining the memories behind each of them
- You also make sure to introduce her to her siblings (the houseplants)
- When she’s a little older Sweet Pea starts teaching her how to defend herself
- ‘she’s three sweet pea, she doesn’t need to know how to karate chop someone’
- ‘yes she does. i’m always going to be around to keep her safe...but just in case. which reminds me, do you know how to karate chop someone?’
- Fangs teaches her how to cook
- Like she knows everything by the times she’s 10
- Both of them teach her stupid (and sometimes inappropriate) jokes
- Out of the two of them, Fangs is usually the one to tell her off
- Actually, its you...you’re the one to tell her off if she’s done something wrong because they both can’t bring themselves to shout at her
- Its difficult for you too (so its a blessing that she’s actually pretty well behaved, unlike all three of her parents)
- Fangs is definitely the most over protective
- He follows her around when she starts to crawl, literally if she moves a centimeter, he’s up and following her around.
- Sweet Pea is always the one to cheer her up when she’s sad
- And you’re the one she always goes to when she’s hurt herself or if she just needs a hug
- She loves all of you so much
- And you love her
- They still insist of taking pictures of literally every moment
- It actually increases after she’s born
- You really don’t know how thats possible
- Even she gets annoyed at it

A Little Wager
Ok, I don't usually write. If I do, I rarely complete it. I either have grand ideas that just don't come out or I read something similar that scratches that itch and I don't have to write anymore. But this little fluff nugget has been my constant daydream for a while. There are no warnings for this. It's lighthearted and fun. I suck at writing smut so I doubt I'll continue it. If someone wanted to pick up where I left off and do a shower scene, I would LOVE that! Anyway, here it is. Be gentle :)
--------------------------------------
It was mid afternoon when you and your squad made it to the training grounds.  Captain Levi’s squad was supposed to be done in the next half hour. You like to get your squad there early when the special forces are training to provide a little inspiration.
You choose Emily to lead the squad in stretches before they hit the course.  All the while, they’re watching Levi’s soldiers expertly soar through the air completing maneuvers it will take years for your squad to accomplish. While stretching, you hear the oohs and aaahs, sometimes shocked gasps as another soldier completes in flight stunts that look impossible.  You notice Levi, arms crossed, watching them intently.  He never has to yell out instruction or commands.  His squad is a well-oiled machine.
“Alright guys, what’s the bet today?” you ask your team, breaking their reverie.
“Isn’t it your turn to pick, Captain (y/l/n)?” asks the unofficial leader of the squad, Leo. “Besides, every time we come up with a bet, it’s almost guaranteed defeat.”
“I’m not stupid guys. The tasks get harder depending on what we bet.  If you bet I walk topless through the mess hall at dinner time, Malcolm (glancing over to the brave boy who dared make that wager), you better believe I’m giving you a nearly impossible task.” Malcolm blushes.
“It was worth a shot.” He says sheepishly. Amelia punches his arm playfully saying “That’s gross Malcolm, she’s our squad leader.”
“Anyway, I think you’ll like this offer.  How about you nail all your maneuvers I assigned last week and two more surprise tasks, and I’ll do all your laundry for a week?”  While this bet wasn’t as exciting as a topless Captain at dinnertime, it did get the squad’s full attention.  You knew some of them were wearing clothing for the second, maybe third time between washes and they stunk!  This bet was more for you than anyone.
The slight turn and side eye from Levi let you know he wasn’t watching his squad as intently as you thought. He was eavesdropping.
“But you have to land properly.  No biffing the landings!” You add, hearing groans from some of your soldiers.  More groans when you tell them the surprise maneuvers they are to complete.  They’re difficult but not impossible for their skill level.
“All right guys, I think this is doable.” Leo chimes in, pumping up his squad mates.  Some were already looking defeated, having the most difficulty with their landings. They all circled up and started motivating each other.  Levi might have the elite group, but no one could rival your squad in the heart department. These guys gave it their all every time, training or battle.
You had a way with these “kids” as you called them that few squad leaders did.  They loved your inclusiveness and your no-blame leadership style.  You made sure they knew they were a team.  Mistakes were learning opportunities, even the fatal ones. Those most of all.  And they did happen to all Scout squads.  It was just the nature of the job.
“OK Captain (y/l/n), we accept the bet!  Get the soap ready!  Let’s do this!”  The whole squad was pumped and ready.  You couldn’t help but grin and hope that you had a lot of laundry to do this week.
“Alright, it’s on.  Keep stretching and warming up!” you say as you walk over to join Levi and watch the last of his team’s maneuvers.
“Well, your team is certainly inspiring some young ones today.” You grin and bump his shoulder.
“Is that why you’re always early?”
“Yes sir, I’ll take all the motivation we can get.”
“So what’s up with that bet? Sounds like a recurring thing with you.” He asks, never taking his gaze from his flyers.
“All the motivation I can get, right?  They really respond well to the bets we make.”
“Did I hear mention of a bet that would have had you walk topless through the mess hall at dinner time?” This question did pull his gaze to you with raised eyebrows. You couldn't help the blush that stained your cheeks.
“That was never going to happen.” You outline the tasks you gave your squad that day.
“Yeah, that would be hard for my group to accomplish.” Levi smirks. “Would you like to join us during our next training session? Maybe my squad would like to try betting on something.”
“That would be amazing! Thank you!” You are beaming. Training with the elites will certainly boost your squad’s morale.
“Alright, day after tomorrow at 1pm.”
“It’s a date.” tumbles out of your mouth.  Levi briefly side eyes you with a slightly scrunched brow at your choice of phrase but continues walking to his squad for their debrief.  You are blushing thinking he might have taken that the wrong way.  Oh well, nothing to do now but show up at 1pm in two days.  Your squad was going to freak out!
------------
The joint training sessions became a regular once a week thing with the two squads.  The bets initially started out pretty tame.  Levi and you lost several but when they were “Do 100 push ups” or “Clean all the floors in the barracks”, it was ok.  Neither of you minded losing those.  But the soldiers started getting braver with their wagers.
You knew something interesting was in the works when you see Sasha Braus bouncing on her heels and clapping her hands before you both even make it over to them.
“Alright Sasha, what do you have for us today?” Asks Levi, arms crossed and one eyebrow raised.
“Ohhhh, this is a goooood one!”  Her voice quivers with excitement.  “If we complete all our maneuvers flawlessly, landings included, Captain (y/l/n) has to do 10 push ups.”  She’s so excited, she can hardly continue.
“Sasha, that’s not a challenge.” You add, knowing there has to be more to it. You notice Jean, Conny, and Eren look slightly uncomfortable.
“That’s not all!  With every push up, you and Captain Levi have to KISS!”  She literally squeals. Your eyes grow large.
“Sasha, that only works if both parties are consensual.”  You roll your eyes, knowing Levi will not agree to this.
“What do you mean Captain (y/l/n)?  You wouldn’t consent to that?”
The phrase you could hear a pin drop is very apropos in this moment as all eyes are on Levi with gaping mouths.  You could swear you heard the wind of heads turning.
“You mean to tell me YOU consent to that?” You ask incredulously.
Levi takes your arm and pulls you aside.  “The task fits the bet, right?  Here’s what we’ll have them do.”  He outlines his plan and the butterflies in your stomach still. But you’re not sure if you’re relived or disappointed knowing your squad will definitely not be able to pull this off. Were you hoping to lose this one?
“Perfect. Let’s tell them.” You grin.
You both walk back over, and Levi lays out the maneuvers they’ll have to perform in order to win the bet.
They are obviously shaken but the elites take the young ones aside, and after a 10-minute pep talk and possible strategy session, they return and accept your conditions. Is this task as difficult as Levi thought? They seem pretty confident. "We accept!" Sasha yells.
Levi looks at you and winks. “Alright, get going then.”  In pairs, the two squads enthusiastically enter the training arena.
The last teams are nearly finished.  You look over at Levi nervously.  All the pairs assigned to you were flawless.  How could that be?  The elites really were inspiring, but you realized you might have been going a little too easy on your team.  What a sight to behold.  And your squad was so proud of themselves.  You would have made a bet to kiss a titan for this!
Levi’s mouth is agape as he slowly turns his head to look at you.  You both just stare at each other in disbelief, his expression saying everything you needed to know.  His group was flawless as well.
“Holy shit.” You mumble under your breath, heat now creeping up your neck, your palms sweaty already.
Levi regains his composure, that cool mask of confidence back on his face and in his stance.  He strides toward you looking way more collected than you feel.
“Alright, new strategy.” He says, a sneaky glimmer in his eye. “They didn’t say what kind of kiss, right?”
You pause for a second, realizing what he’s saying and your breath that you didn’t know you were holding is released in a relieved sigh. Is relieved the right word?
“I know where you’re going with this.” You say shaking your head.
“Every time you lower yourself, I’ll turn my head and you kiss somewhere on my face.  Forehead, cheeks, nose.  We’ll keep them guessing.”
“They’re going to be so mad!”
“They should have thought of all the loopholes before they finalized the deal.” Levi stated coolly with a shrug.
Sasha, back to bouncing and clapping, yells “Ok you two!  Assume the position!”
"This is stupid.”-Conny
“I don’t think I can watch this.”-Eren
"Why does Captain Levi get to do the kissing?" -Jean
Meanwhile the girls are giggling messes of anticipation.
Levi lies on the ground, hands casually behind his head like he’s relaxed and getting ready for an afternoon nap. Huh, to feel that relaxed right now. You crawl up his body, your knees straddling his hips and your hands to either side of his neck. Hoots and hollers from the two squads do not help the blush on your face. You raise to plank position, then slowly lower yourself.
Levi’s head remains still until the last second, then turns to the right, offering his cheek for the first kiss.  You lightly feather his skin with your lips before returning to plank.
“Hey, that’s cheating!” Sasha sounds so defeated.
“You didn’t specify what kind of kiss Sasha.  Let this be a lesson to you.  Negotiate better next time.” Levi says smugly. “I want to hear you count!  That was 1, 9 to go!”
The next 4 kisses were met with increasingly under enthused counting as the cheek, nose, and forehead barely-there-pecks were administered.
At the start of the 6th, Levi says to you “My turn.”  Your eyes narrow in confusion and he clarifies “I’m going to kiss you now. Move however you prefer.”  You nod, really just wanting this to be over with. You agree with the squad that this is underwhelming.
You move your head so kisses land on both cheeks, your forehead, and your nose.  Time for the final kiss.  As you start to lower your body, Levi removes his hands from behind his head and places them on either side of your face.  Your eyes widen when he says “Let’s give them a little something more, huh?” You feel those butterflies again as you nod your head in agreement.  And time passes in slow motion.  You continue lowering until your lips meet Levi’s.  At first, the kiss is just a brushing of your lips together.  Levi gently pulls your face away just a bit to look you in the eyes, then lowers you again, this time kissing you properly.  You can’t feel anything else.  Your body feels weightless.  His lips part and his tongue grazes your bottom lip.  You open your lips to him and the kiss deepens, tongues swirling and gliding together.  There’s no one else here but the two of you.  The gasps and cheers from the combined squads don’t reach your ears. You have no idea how long this kiss lasts but you can honestly say you don’t want it to end.
The only thing to break the spell is Eren saying “Geez, are they going to come up for air?”  Levi reluctantly pulls away after a few more brief kisses.  You slowly raise your body, as your eyes open and lock with Levi’s.  “Damn” he mutters softly.  You can’t help but grin a little as you complete your final plank.  You blink your eyes a few times, trying to rid yourself of the spell Levi’s put you under.  You push up to your feet, face flushed and lips swollen.  You offer a hand to Levi, who takes it, even though he doesn’t really need it to get off the ground.  Once vertical, you expect him to release your hand, but instead, he intertwines his fingers with yours and says “Ok kids, show’s over.  Hit the showers.”  The soldiers don’t miss the fact that you’re still holding hands as they depart.  Sasha and Mikasa keep looking over their shoulders, hoping they won’t miss anything else.
Levi whispers in your ear “What do you say Captain?  Ready to hit the shower too?”
