The camcorder teen excitedly bombards Mikey with questions, asking if he was an alien. The commotion draws attention of Purple Dragon members passing through the park.

Thanks to the camcorder teen, taking the Purple Dragon's attention and leading them away, Mikey is able to safely return to his brothers. The turtles return the favor by helping the teen escape the Purple Dragons by sabotaging the gang from the shadows.
Afterwards, the turtles have a chance to meet the teen and are properly introduced to April O’Neil, who has a passion for journalism and is a believer in all things cryptid.

Top tier ninja’n
Our story begins with four normal teenagers, Leonardo, Mikey, Donatello and Raph, sneaking out to go to a nearly abandoned park to skateboard. Their outing is cut short when people arrive and the turtles have to retreat to the shadows.
Mikey wonders if they’ll ever be able to join human society, but Raph dismisses him, stating that human’s will never accept them. Mood gone sour, the turtles are ready to head home when Mikey remembers he left his skateboard behind. He goes to retrieve it before his brothers can stop him and, it is then, Mikey has a life changing encounter…

The Way of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
This is my iteration of the turtles, taking different things that I love about the franchise and combining it with my ideas. Each of the turtles embodies a trait of the title which is highlighted through the story. The trait is relevant to their personality, their character growth, and/or plot.
Raphael embodies the teenager
Donatello embodies the mutant
Leonardo embodies the ninja
Michelangelo embodies the turtle
Venus embodies a hidden trait, the mystic

Months of hyperfixating on Tmnt and I got a fan iteration of the turtles to show for it. In spirit of Tmnt Day, I wanted to share some sketches from when I was developing the story.

I've spent the last month watching Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and I'm so glad I did. What a fun show! I think there's a Kamen Rider reference too which inspired this little drawing.

At the age of nineteen, four brothers set sail with the Strawhat Pirates to pursue their dreams and discover the world.
Ichiji is a stoic, logical, no nonsense kind of person. Though one of the more thoughtful brothers, Ichiji is still unsure what he wants to do with his life. His official role on the crew is Chronicler and occasionally acts as a Historian, often working with Nico Robin when it comes to information.
Niji is the Technician on the Strawhat crew, immediately finding kinship with Usopp and later Franky. He dreams of learning all he can so that he can make the best inventions in the world.
Sanji hasn't changed from the cannon story. He joins the crew as the Chef and dreams of finding the All Blue. Sanji does butt heads with his brothers as he's determined to appear on equal footing with them. His brothers are also the only people he will rely on because he knows they can handle dangerous situations.
Yonji is the crew's Rigger and Deckhand. Yonji can be arrogant and quick to pick a fight but he is occasionally mindful when he needs to be. Yonji joins the Strawhat crew because of his dream of traveling the world.

A One Piece D&D AU!
I should say loosely based on D&D, I would generalize the concept to what if the Strawhats were a party in a TTRPG setting.
Monkey D Luffy - Human (Variant) barbarian Roronoa Zoro - Human fighter (samurai) Nami - Human rouge Usopp - Satyr ranger Sanji - Half-Elf monk Tony Tony Chopper - Halfling druid (Cursed -> Weredeer) Nico Robin - Tiefling sorcerer Franky - Dwarf artificer Brook - Reborn-Elf bard

Perhaps it’s nostalgia, but this speech by Sanji encapsulates the peak of his character for me. Oda sets it up brilliantly. By having Jabra right in front of the Straw Hats Sanji has to kind of beat around the bush, which gives Oda a good narrative excuse to preserve the surprise of having Usopp help snipe Robin free.
But in-story, Sanji’s putting a lot of trust in Usopp right now. He has to believe that Usopp picks up what he’s putting down, and he has to believe that he has the skill to pull it off. Sanji has the empathy and wherewithal to see how low Usopp is, and the kindness to know exactly what to say to help lift him up. That’s the core of Sanji’s character as someone who nurtures others, no matter the cost to himself.
Sanji and Usopp have a lot more in common that what might appear at first blush, which is why I think out of all the crew only Sanji could have effectively made this speech to Usopp, but on an even grander scale Oda is building on the theme he established during the Luffy vs Arlong fight way back in the East Blue. Luffy couldn’t cook, sail, or lie, but he could beat Arlong’s ass. Now, hundreds of chapters later, Sanji couldn’t fight a woman and had to be bailed out by Nami, only for Nami and Usopp to be bailed out by Sanji in turn when Jabra was too much for them to handle.
Strength comes in many different forms, and one of the reasons why the themes of friendship and comradery land when a lot of other series fall flat is that Oda shows even the strongest members of the crew depending on one another to survive.
