The cafe buzzed with chatter from other customers. A waitress arrived at a table with two middle aged men with their drinks. A coffee for the more serious looking man and warm ginseng tea for the man with softer features. The two took a sip of their drinks as the waitress left. The man with the tea waited patiently for his friend to speak since he was the one who called for this meeting. The other cleared his throat,
"I guess I'll get right to the point then." He waited a beat before he continued. "I've received a threat from a former employee of mine. I'm sure he isn't capable of much damage but I prefer not to take any risks of underestimating him. What I'm saying is, I and my family need protection. However, as I'm a cautious man, I prefer to do business with your company through you. I know it isn't your job exactly, but I can't trust anyone with the safety of my family but you, Kwangsoo."
The man, Kwangsoo, took another sip of his tea. Deep in thought. Until, "Like you said, it's not exactly my department. But I'll do what I can to do business as you wish. It's the least I can do for an old friend." He gave a kind, humble smile.
~~~
The nights were cooler than the day, so I was thankful for them. I sat in my bed that was next to the window. The night sky was hidden behind the glow of the street lights, which was unfortunate. There was nothing like a beautiful scenery at the end of the day to heal the unpleasant aftermath of a bad experience. So the absence of the stars made me turn to something else for comfort.
I looked down at the stuffed animal in my lap. The soft gray wolf pup looked up at me with its green eyes. After the disappointing turn of events earlier today, Hoseok tried his luck at the claw game to get me a stuffed animal to take home. I smile at the stuffed toy, recollecting Hoseok's attempt at cheering me up.
"Don't worry, Yurim-ah. I'll get you one for sure!" Hoseok stretched his arms and legs as if he was about to run a marathon.
I giggled, "isn't that a bit much?"
"Why do you think winning this is rare, hm?" His hands rested on his hips as he rotated his pelvis. I snorted as another wave of laughter escaped me. "People don't apply basic warm ups." Hoseok twisted his torso left and right, cracking it both times before getting into his stance. "Okay!"
He failed twice before finally scoring on the third. When he scooped up the stuffed animal from the dispenser, Hoseok didn't miss the chance to do a silly dance before finishing off with a spin and finally presenting me with the adorable puppy.
"Here you go! This makes me cool right?" His smile was so big and bright. I felt so grateful in that moment. That we became friends. That I somehow found someone who I didn't repel.
I took the puppy gladly and nodded. "Very cool!"
"So what will you name it?"
"Name a stuffed animal? Do I look five?" I cringe.
"Yurim-ah~!" Hoseok whined. "This isn't just a stuffed animal! This is your guardian to protect you when I'm not around."
"Ohh~ is that so? Maybe it's name should be Hoseok then." We laughed.
"Okay, okay. How about Horim?" He suggested with a chuckle. I cringed. "Ho for Hoseok and Rim for Yurim. It's cute!"
The cute combo and Hoseok's child-like behavior put a smile on my face. There was no denying his ideas when they were so sweet. I nodded. "Horim it is." I then spoke to Horim the wolf pup. "Horim-ah, when the other animals mock you for your name, make sure to bite your dad okay? He's the one who gave you your name."
"'Dad?'" He seemed surprised. "Does that make you 'mom'? Are we parents already?"
His comment made me blush. I slapped his arm, "that's not my point~!" Hoseok then bursts with laughter and ruffled my hair. "Aiiish, really!" I pouted.
I smiled at the memory and embraced Horim. It really did feel comforting knowing someone had my back. Friends were never easy for me to make. My family claimed it's my own fault for being too honest. But what was the point of making friends who didn't know your thoughts and feelings? Wasn't that the point of friends? People could be so strange in their logic sometimes.
"Eonni," my sister, Minju, popped her head into the door. She wore a headband around her head, her hairline drenched. Which means she was in the middle of her nightly skin care routine. "Mom and dad are held up at the Hot Spring. They said to eat without them."
I nodded, "okay, get ready." I got out of bed and left Horim laying comfortably on my pillow.
I had made cheesy kimchi fried rice with pork for dinner. But it looked like there'd be some left over. My parents owned a Hot Spring a few miles from home in the mountains. I work there over the weekends and enjoy a good soak every once in a while. Minju doesn't help out as much as I do but she sure seems to take every opportunity to give her friends an exclusive 'tour'. It wasn't normally busy on the week days but I suppose it was one of those days.
Minju returned from the bathroom, her routine complete. I scooped fried rice into a bowl and set it down in front of her before making myself a bowl.
"Eonni, what was with that doll you were smiling about?" Minju asked curiously. She placed a spoon on each of our sides. I felt slightly embarrassed that she caught me smiling to a stuffed animal. "Do you have a boyfriend all of a sudden?"
My eyes went wide when I looked at her. "Where did that come from? Why would a doll make you think someone had a boyfriend? And it's not a doll, it's a stuffed puppy." I corrected with my first mouthful of food.
"Why not? Boyfriends get cute things like that for their girlfriends all the time."
That's true I guess, I thought as I recalled the couples in the arcade today. And the way they made me miss Seokjin. I shrugged. "Well I don't have one, so don't get the wrong idea."
"Fine, I was just asking." Minju grumbled, chewing on a piece of pork.
I remained quiet for most of the meal, though Minju didn't mind. She loved talking about all the recent happenings of middle school and asking for my take on things. However, when she disagrees with what I say, she has no problem ignoring my insights. It usually annoys me when she does that, but tonight my thoughts were somewhere else.
There were things that still bothered me. Some more than others. First, how I was so close to forming something with Seokjin, even an acquaintance. Second, the strange look in Namjoon's eyes as he was being escorted off the ice. The look could've killed someone. And most of all, my strange encounter with Yoongi.
The image of his intense glare just inches away from my face sent a strange feeling through my body that I didn't know was good or bad.
Bad of course! Nothing else made sense. I resisted the urge to physically shake the thoughts from my head or claw them out even. Now I was just being stupid.
But I still couldn't get to the bottom of his last statement to me. Was he just messing with me? Ugh! Maybe all this is only bothering me because it's still fresh. Hopefully after a good night's rest, it won't seem like that big of a deal in the morning.
I nod to myself, deciding not to stress about anything anymore until I've rested properly. Though, typically, these things were easier said than done.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIN YOONGI! 💜🖤
Edit by @/shiny.shooky on insta
My sentimental bday thoughts about Yoongi. Possibly cringe. Read at your own risk lol.
I never noticed Yoongi much at first since he was pretty quiet and stood in the back of the group a lot. And then I started to notice his calm presence more. He was still quiet and chill but all that was loud in it's own way. So I started paying more attention to him and found out how similar we are.
We're introverts and value time alone, we don't like to spend unnecessary energy, we've dealt with anxiety and depression, we love music, we grew up on hip hop, we've held and had to work on our anger, at one point earned that 'quiet/scary friend who's actually sweet considerate' title, we're introspective and actively try to understand ourselves, can be a rbf savage one moment and a smiley dork the next, deep thinkers, and so much more.
And then I noticed the differences between us. Yoongi doesn't hesitate to speak his piece. I do. He's willing to take risks to accomplish his goals. I'm not that brave. He puts himself out there for his fans despite his anxiety. I could NOT handle fame the way he totally owns it! And he doesn't force himself to entertain people if he's not feeling it whereas I'm too much of an anxious people pleaser that I often take on the persona of someone who's more outgoing than I really am just to accommodate company. That's very tiring by the way 😅
I guess the reason he's my bias is because we're similar enough where I feel understood but different enough that he inspires me to improve and to just be me.
I stan OT7 but this is why Yoongi will always affect me differently than the rest. I wish him infinite joy and a happy birthday! And to everyone out there, happy Yoongi day! I love you!
COLDER THAN WINTER: Chapter Two [BTS fanfic]
Eaten By Zombies
Chapter: 2/30+ (ongoing)
~~~
It was a long meeting so the middle aged man was relieved to be home. But it wasn't time to relax just yet. There were still plans and forms to look over. As he removed his shoes at the door, his wife greeted him. The kind faced woman took his brief case and followed him to his study. She updated him on their son and other family matters before placing his briefcase beside his desk. If he was listening one couldn't be sure. He was a serious and quiet man. The wife took his coat and left him to his work. He searched his mail, opening envelope after envelope. But he reached one that looked strange. It had no return address. Curious, he opened it. The paper had very few words typed onto it. It wasn't good.
You stole from me. It's my turn.
~~~
The bully barely had time to react. But before my fist had a chance to land, people had jumped in between me and the group of troublemakers. Seokjin, Hoseok, Jimin and two other teachers separated us.
I didn't really register what everyone was saying. I imagine some were appalled at me, some were concerned with Seokjin's shoulder, and others were reprimanding Namjoon and his goons. But it was all merely muffled sounds as I was much too occupied with the silent loathing Namjoon and I shared.
I managed the hardest, most stubborn glare I could. Namjoon did the same, but there was something there besides anger. I didn't know what it was exactly but I didn't dare look away. I was too prideful for that.
After what seemed like hours, the gang of no-gooders were finally escorted off the ice. Though I wish the fourth suspect hadn't ran away before the teachers came. Coward. Hoseok assisted Jimin in taking Seokjin to the staff's office for medical attention. I felt terrible for him. He saved me back there. That could've been my shoulder that was dislocated.
I headed out of the rink to wait for any news of Seokjin. I couldn't continue skating and enjoying myself knowing that he got hurt for my sake.
I wandered around the lobby area as I waited. There I saw a separate room. The arcade. I hadn't been here in a while so I wondered if they had new games. It wouldn't hurt to take a look while I waited.
I entered the dim room lined with multi-colored LED lights. I passed game after game, hearing the different songs and sound effects from each. Some were new, but most had been here for years. I tarried by the claw game someone was playing. I had the worst luck with them. But apparently the boy playing it was successful in acquiring a stuffed tiger for his girlfriend. Seems like arcades were a common place to find couples.
Around the corner of the room there was another couple playing air hockey. Their excitement getting more and more energetic. Walking further down, I got close to the last corner that lead back to the entrance. Just before I got there, I heard a commotion behind me. When I looked back I saw the air hockey couple chasing after the puck that must've been hit off the table by accident. The yellow disc rolled toward me. I stepped toward it quickly and stomped on in, stopping it in its tracks.
I picked it up and handed it back. The two gave their embarrassed thanks and returned to their game. I smiled lightly at their excitement over something so small. Watching them reminded me of Seokjin. Though, I'm unsure why. Funny how couples can make you miss someone that isn't yours. I sighed.
It's been long enough. He should be out by now. After all there wasn't much to do about a dislocated shoulder but to pop it back in and maybe sling it up, right? I needed to thank him properly. After what happened I was too worried about his injury that I forgot to thank him. Okay!
With a nod I turned with vigor-
THUMP!
"Ah!" I walked into someone. I blinked up at him, "Sorr-"
My stomach twisted for the second time today. Seeing Yoongi in front of me, his piercing eyes peering back at me. The images of his silent, cold gazes today replayed in my head. I thought I may have seen a hint of surprise on his face but I doubted it. We both stood as though frozen before I finally came to my senses enough to walk around him.
As I walked away in a huff something I assumed was the feeling of satisfying dignity washed over me.
Until something jerked my neck back. "Ugh-! Hey!" I lost my balance and ended up stumbling into his chest. I looked to see Yoongi holding on to the hood of my jacket. "What's your problem?!" I tried to pull away.
Not even my struggling could disarray that blank, indifferent look on his face. He simply kept hold of my jacket and walked me away from the exit as if I were a dog on a leash. How humiliating!
"Hey! What are you doing?!" I yelled. It was unclear where he was taking me.
I wasn't sure how much could be heard by other players since all the games had their own music playing. I just hoped someone would step in soon. There was no way of telling how one deals with Yoongi. Although cold like his friends, he was still different from them. He almost never spoke. Ever. With the others, one could gauge their personalities, likes, and weaknesses. But Yoongi was a dark enigma. And that's what made him scarier than the rest. What happens in that mind of his? Where does he go, what does he do, where has he been, what has he done? No one knew. I'm not sure his friends even knew.
So what exactly does he want with me? Was he getting revenge? Maybe he blamed me for getting his friends kicked out. It seemed a likely possibility. My heart raced, reviewing what I new about self defense. It's been a while since I took classes but it was all I had right now.
He stopped next to one of the arcade games. It was a zombie shooter game where the players sit in a car like setting with two handed guns in front of them. There were people in there. The black haired mystery popped his head in the cab, startling the people in it.
"Get out," he gestured the command with his head.
They were students in our grade so they knew full well who he was. They obeyed immediately. I cringed to myself, feeling embarrassed at his rudeness. "You seriously kicked people out in the middle of their game."
"Sit," he lead me by my hood still until we were both sitting side by side. Yoongi finally let go of me and got out coins from his pocket.
I stared in unbelief. "What are you doing?"
Without looking at me he began to explain while inserting coins into both guns, "I got too many coins, I need to use them all or it'll go to waste. Try not to die." The low tone of his voice caught me by surprise. He's never said this much to me before.
My face was stuck in its phase of unbelief. The game started but I didn't care. He made no sense at all. "Yoongi-shi." He ignored me, seemingly focused on shooting. Even when he's concentrating he looked absolutely bored. Which contributed to the air of deception this whole situation had.
"Ya! Min Yoongi!" I yelled. I'm not sure why I did it. There was no telling how he'd respond since I knew nothing about the patterns of his behavior. But perhaps that's why I risked it. To find out. The strange boy froze for a second before looking at me.
"What. Are. You. Doing?"
Yoongi sighed and leaned back in his seat, propping one foot on the dashboard. The sound of alarms and zombies blared through the speakers of the booth we were sitting in until it was game over.
"I told you already," he challenged with his eyes, which seemed to leave a greater chill in the air. I hated them. They were so calm and uncaring about everything. While others like me suffer anxiety being the object of focus for eyes like his. My entire body was tense simply by being in his presence. When on the other hand looking at me was nothing to him.
"You know what I'm talking about. What are you playing at? Are your friends gonna show up to get revenge on me or someth-?"
"They're not gonna touch you." His eyes shakily darted elsewhere.
I paused for a moment. There was something odd about his response. He almost seemed annoyed. Is he perturbed by my questions? Why was he looking away now as opposed to before? Was he lying? He then let out a silent but deep sigh.
"You shouldn't have swung at him." Yoongi's eyes went distant. Something else showed in his eyes, I hadn't seen before. He looked very...tired.
I thought a bit then blinked at him realizing, "you saw that."
"Yurim-ah!" My ears twitched at the sound of Hoseok's voice. I peaked out the opening. He was looking for me.
Before I could call him over, Yoongi grabbed my hand and pulled me back in with him. I gasped at the sudden tug, fearing he'd get violent for thinking I was trying to escape. But he just looked at me in the eyes, intently.
"Lee Yurim..." Yoongi said this time. There was a strange feeling that came when he said my name. I've never heard it said in his voice before. In fact, I didn't know he knew my name. This was the first time we've ever talked really. And maybe it was just my imagination, but his voice... No. I must've imagined it. "Don't go anywhere alone. Got it?"
I narrowed my eyes, "what do you-"
"Yurim-ah! So this is where you were! I thought Namjoon might've taken-" Hoseok finally recognized Yoongi next to me who let go of my hand. He then looked at me concerned, "are you okay?"
I nodded.
"No." Yoongi answered as if he was asked. "She just wasted four of my tokens," Yoongi says nonchalantly before hopping out. Hoseok and I only stared after him with puzzled looks.
A breath that I didn't know I was holding burst out of me. What the hell? My hands were shaking. What did he mean, 'don't go anywhere alone?' Was that a threat? A warning? What did he know that I didn't?
I clutched my stomach, the bile there churned. Threatening to get out. Something felt seriously wrong.
Like something was going to happen. Something bad.
And soon.
WHY HIM? [Yoongi x OC]
Tumblr media
Type: BTS | Yoongi AU | Oneshot
Mature: No
Prompt: Jade (oc) bumps into her childhood crush years later leading to an awkward but informative night.
Word Count: 3,798
JADE
Originally, Jade intended to write in between bites, but she was too starved to take a break. She practically inhaled her burger without any concern for what the other customers thought if they saw her. It was the first time she had gone out to eat since moving. Her mother begged her to get out of her new apartment more often instead of typing away at her computer indoors.
Jade was a successful writer. She wrote short stories for a well known teen magazine and never needed to leave her house to work since her success. Which was perfect in her opinion.
After her burger she made sure to slow down when it came to finishing her fries and chocolate shake. She wanted to have an excuse to stay seated for a while to get some writing done for her next short story submission.
"Jade?"
Jade looked up from her phone with a start. Hearing her name in the town she had just moved to shocked her. She stared up at another woman who looked similar in age. Kind almond brown eyes, light fluffy bangs, and wrapped up in a big hoodie. Jade's eyes grew as her memory came rushing back.
"Autumn!" Jade smiled brightly.
Autumn was a girl in her elementary back at her home town. They were two years apart. Her family had moved to America from South Korea. Her actual name was Areum, but kids were confused by it and just called her Autumn since it sounded similar.
"Yoongi, come look!" she turned to the guy behind her who had been training his eyes elsewhere.
Horror flashed in Jade's eyes before she quickly wiped her mouth with a napkin. Just in case she had ketchup smeared somewhere. No way, she thought despairingly. Of all the people to run into...
Yoongi was Autumn's younger brother who was in the same grade as Jade. As a kid, Jade had always been very boy crazy. Which her collection of old diaries clearly showed. She wrote pages upon pages about every boy she ever liked since the third grade. Every boy, except Yoongi Min.
"Look who it is! It's Jade!" Autumn pulled on his arm to make him face the nervous writer. It all happened in slow motion and each slow second made her heart feel like it would burst.
When his eyes found hers he gave a tight smile, "Jade. It's been a long time!"
"Yeah," Jade nodded awkwardly, trying to return a friendly smile, "it has."
Autumn invited herself to sit down while Yoongi still stood, looking slightly uncomfortable. "So how are you? Did you just move here or are you visiting?" Jade summarized her move here and what she does for a living. Autumn also wanted to know where her new apartment was, which to Jade's regret, she told it. Jade wasn't quite ready to have potential visitors. "Awesome, that's only two blocks away from our parent's house! I'll be here for the whole weekend, we should do something! In fact, what's your number?"
"Um..." Jade swiped her eyes toward Yoongi who quickly looked away. She was hesitant to say her number out loud, fearing he'd think she wanted him to hear it. Instead, she offered to type it in herself and gave it back. "Here you go."
"Sweet! I'll call you and we can catch up!"
"Sure!" Jade said stiffly.
"See you then!" The bubbly Autumn hopped out of her seat and led her brother on their way but not before he flashed her yet another awkward, tight smile.
When she returned her attention back to her table of food she had lost her appetite. And she had lost her focus to write.
YOONGI
We should've chosen another trash bin.
Had he seen her sitting on the other side of the pillar earlier, Yoongi would've thrown out their trash elsewhere. The next thing he could hope was for Areum not to notice her. Of course, she did. And Areum being Areum, she had to spread her social butterfly wings. Not that it was ever a problem before, but this time was an exception.
Jade Edwards. The one person through elementary he hadn't been able to figure out. The quiet girl in school. The girl that was nice to everyone. The one that no one really knew, yet knew about...was living only two blocks away from him after all these years.
The way she looked at him when Areum asked for her number bothered him. Did she think I'd hover and listen like some perverted stalker? Really? He thought to himself, his grip on the wheel of the car tightening.
"What's wrong?"
Yoongi kept his eyes on the road. "What do you mean?"
"You're very quiet," Areum said with suspicion.
"You only notice that when you're not talking. Otherwise you'd be perfectly content with my not speaking," Yoongi flicked his eyes toward his sister who looked to be considering it.
"No...that's not it." Areum continued to think which made him nervous. Already he could feel his palms begin to sweat. "Does it have to do with Jade?"
He sighed.
Yoongi and Areum had grown up to be very close and open with each other about each other's lives. However, he found it difficult to confirm or deny anything this time. He remained silent.
"It is!" Her tone was dipped in shock. Areum turned herself as much as her seat belt allowed to face him. "Did you have a crush on her as a kid or something?"
"No way!" Yoongi's face smudged up.
"Are you lying?"
"No! I didn't like her- and I didn't hate her either, okay?"
Areum faced forward again but he could sense her mind was still investigating. And knowing her this wouldn't be the last time he'd hear about it.
JADE
There was the tiniest little stain on the carpet of the Min's house that Jade desperately tried to focus on. All to avoid seeing how obviously nervous she looked in one of the decorative mirrors on the wall. Perfectly lined up to where she sat on the light blue sofa. The woman's hands rubbed together anxiously in her lap, her shoulder tense.
Unable to resist, she checked herself in the mirror once more. Brown, wavy hair in a long braid rested over her shoulder. The wine red knit sweater was starting to become bothersome as she'd felt uncomfortably warm since entering the house. The worst of what she saw in her reflection were her eyebrows, strewn with worry.
Determined, she leaned back and straightened her posture.
Just because he technically bought this house for his parents and lives here, doesn't mean he'll be here. Relax!
"Sorry! That took long!" Autumn scurried in with two cans of soda. "I tried to talk my brother into opening his wine but he's very picky about his drinks."
"Soda's perfect! Thank you."
"Just let me know if you get hungry, I can make something." Without another breath, "so what's up? Fill me in! How's the fam?"
The two women talked for about an hour, filling each other in on their lives. Much to Jade's surprise, not only was Autumn married but she already had four kids! She looked unbelievably good for having had four kids! Although she did have a motherly gaze in her eyes. Jade shared the updates of her own family's marriages. None of them her own of course, though she wasn't keen on elaborating on her relationship failures.
Afterwards, Autumn retreated to the kitchen to make something for them to snack on. Like before, she could hear whispering voices coming from the kitchen. None of the words spoken were English. She knew it had to have been Yoongi. She hoped they weren't talking about her. If they were, surely he didn't want her in his house. If Jade had known it was his before coming here, she wouldn't have gone through with this meet up.
Just when the whispers were getting more intense sounding, Yoongi looked as though he was pushed out. Jade whipped her head back to the fireplace in front of her.
Sure enough, Yoongi swaggered up to the coffee table and set down a little platter of crackers, ham, cheese, and spinach dip, "she said you can start with this."
"Thank-"
But he was gone out of sight.
"-you."
Jade took a deep breath before getting up and heading toward the kitchen. When she got there Yoongi was standing in the way of seeing Autumn. Jade cleared her throat. Yoongi turned with a start and moved to the side.
"Um, sorry, could I wash my hands in the bathroom?"
"Sure!" Autumn smiled, especially delighted. "You, show her," he nodded at Yoongi. I looked at him who didn't even bother to hide a reluctant look he gave his sister. Jade's eyes stung. She felt as though she'd been shot in the chest. He didn't even have the decency to hide it!
"It's okay, I'm sure it's easy to find," she said quickly before disappearing into the hallway.
After washing her hands, she splashed her face with water and took a few deep breaths to calm her nerves. There was no way she was going to lose her cool here. Just then, she heard them talking again. Jade couldn't understand anything they were saying but it sounded like they were at odds about something. And she couldn't help but feel that something was her.
Just stay calm. You can keep your cool for the rest of the night.
Crack!
A loud noise made her jump. It sounded like something fell in the kitchen. Jade hurried up and headed back to see what had happened.
She hurried in, "is everything okay-?"
"Watch out there's-!"
Jade's heart dropped to her stomach when her foot slipped out from under her. She fell forward. The room blurred as she dropped toward the floor but Yoongi pulled her sideways where her body hit his. His other arm pulled her against him, steadying her.
Jade stared in astonishment as they came face to face.
Yoongi's pupils expanded into massive black holes that Jade felt could pull her in at any moment. His expression morphed into one of confusion, which was enough to pull her out of her ridiculous trance.
The two parted, carefully avoiding the water on the floor, cheeks tinted pink.
"I told you to watch out."
"I didn't know," she defended.
"Why were you running in anyway?"
"I wasn't running," Jade crossed her arms.
"Alright, alright! Let's just take a deep breath," Autumn faced her palms out. "Geez, what is up with you two?" she inquired with a gleam in her eye. "Look this was my bad, I'll clean it up. Meanwhile, Yoongi, you keep Jade company in the living room until I'm finished."
Yoongi and Jade looked spooked as they exchanged looks before they began to refuse in their own ways. But Autumn's glare grew deathly towards her little brother.
"야, 죽고 싶어? 지금 가!" the oldest of us nodded toward the living room with authority. It always made Jade uncomfortable being in the middle of a sibling's spat. Or any kind of disagreement really, especially this one. She felt like she was the blame.
Yoongi reluctantly led the way back to the living room. He specifically sat in the single seater chair furthest from her original spot on the couch where she stiffly sat again.
The silence was deafening. Jade was busy observing her nails while Yoongi was busy biting his. Jade felt prickles all over her skin which she could only imagine was her sweat glands opening. The warmth in her body was increasing with every minute that passed. However, she was determined to fill the silence.
"Aren't you going to eat?" she asked. Yoongi looked from her to the platter of crackers and toppings. Then back to her then to his nails again.
"It was made for you."
Jade shrugged, "doesn't mean you can't have any. It's your house."
He took a few seconds thinking about it before moving to the other single seater that was next to her. Yoongi grabbed a cracker and dipped in the spinach dip. As he chewed he pointed at her, "you should eat too or my sister will kill me for eating it all."
Jade knew this was true so she nodded and tried the spinach dip as well. It tasted different and there were chunks of meat in it. "What's in this?"
"Tuna."
Jade's eyes widened, "really? That's...different."
"That's my sister," he stuffed another dipped cracker in his mouth. "So, what, you don't like it?" he nodded at the remaining cracker she had bit into.
"Actually, I was gonna say it's great," she tossed the piece in her mouth.
Yoongi nodded, "we finally agree on something."
Jade rolled her eyes, "Well the plain truth is that I didn't know there was water on the floor and I definitely didn't run in there."
Yoongi dusted the crumbs off of his lap and sucked his teeth clean. "That's not exactly what I mean," he said mysteriously.
"Well, then, what do you mean?"
The man hesitated at first. Jade couldn't read his face, she never could. But his hesitancy peaked her interest. After a few more seconds passed, he sighed to himself.
"Why did you hate me?"
YOONGI
If Areum wasn't older, Yoongi definitely would've thrown her out of the house and told her find other accommodations during her visit. What was she thinking, bringing her over here anyway? This was worse than their days in elementary. At least then when Jade would storm away without a word, they weren't forced back into each other's company. When was Areum going to stop meddling in people's lives?
He was also at a loss as to why anyone needed to look nice when they were simply meeting one person casually. Yoongi wanted to rip the clips from her hair and tell her there was no need. Autumn wasn't the type to care what anyone looked like. Loose strands of Jade's hair had fallen at the sides of her face. They must've came out when she slipped and fell.
Nearly fell.
Something bothered him about that whole mess - besides it obviously being an unfortunate happenstance. It was her eyes. It took him a while to notice it as there were other factors about that catch that were screaming out at him. Yoongi could've sworn they were...but he couldn't be sure.
"It's your house," she said. Yoongi tried not to scoff out loud.
At least someone around here knew that, he thought.
Yoongi took that as an indication that it was okay to get closer to her- not that he wanted to be. He was just hungry and the crackers were nearest to her. It was his sister's fault for not allowing him to eat anything in his own fridge in order to prepare for his classmate's visit. Which he still couldn't get over.
Jade Edwards is in my house.
"Well, then, what do you mean?"
Yoongi didn't look at her as he considered whether or not he should continue on. He realized he shouldn't have brought it up in the first place, but he was being vague. Areum always told him it drove people crazy, which didn't concern him all that much. However, this time there was a reluctance to keep Jade hanging.
Plus, he was always curious. Even years later, he always wondered, "why did you hate me?"
For the first time since re-entering the living room, Jade looked directly at him. There was something there he couldn't read but the only word he could think of was vulnerable, which was strange to associate with her. Sure she was quiet and shy in school, but she never came across as vulnerable to him. Not even once.
"I...I didn't hate you," she moved timidly.
"Oh, really?" he scoffed, clearly unconvinced. "I'd ask you a simple question then you'd answer with a snobby attitude then storm away. That isn't an indication of hate?"
"I could've had a bad day!"
"For three years?"
Jade opened her mouth but decided against proceeding. Instead she thought carefully about what she needed to say. As she thought, the woman tucked her lip under her teeth which made Yoongi shift in his seat as he blew out a heavy sigh.
"You were nice to everyone except for me and I know I wasn't just imagining it. I also have a sharp memory so don't say I remember it differently because it was a long time ago," Yoongi returned his gaze down to his finger nails. He knew if he saw her struggle for words, he'd want to retract the topic. It was a mystery how he still felt like he needed to spare her from discomfort. After years of thinking he bothered her, how could he not?
"I'm sorry," she said finally, her voice dripped in penitent defeat.
Yoongi's chest tightened with guilt, "th-that's not why I brought it up. I'm not looking for an apology- I'm over it. I'm just curious about why I annoyed you so much? We barely even talked." From his peripheral vision, he saw Jade's shoulders rise and drop as she gave a deep sigh. He didn't know what it meant but he hoped she'd respond soon. The anticipation was killing him.
Not able to help it, he turned his gaze back on her.
The lines on her face from earlier were gone. Her features were soft again, relaxed. She brought her arms up and crossed them on top of her stomach, leaning back. The deep red of her sweater matched the rosy color in her caramel cheeks. If she hadn't acted the way she did those years ago, he probably would've thought she was pretty then too.
"Still...I should apologize," she said finally, "especially if we might be living in the same town for a while," she straightened her posture before continuing. "I only acted that way towards you because I liked you and was kind of pissed off about it."
Yoongi froze, his temperature shot through the roof. The hairs on his arms stood up where prickly bumps had popped up. The same words echoed in his head: I liked you.
Part of him wanted to deny it because of how ridiculously cold she'd been toward him. It seemed impossible and no doubt a confusing way to like someone. The other part of him, well...it wasn't quite thinking straight at the moment.
"Y-you...I mean, wait," the rest of her confession finally registered in his head, "why were you-"
"I'M BACK!" Autumn waltzed in with a larger platter of appetizers. She sat down next to Jade and looked at him expectantly. "Thanks for keeping her company. You can go now," the cunning snake flashed a huge smile at him. He knew well that she was satisfied with the outcome. And now she stepped in when he needed answers most.
"I just need to ask-"
"Bye, now!" she feign a sweet voice.
Yoongi's jaw clenched as he sent her another glare. He then chanced a look at Jade, who anxiously rubbed her knees as she watched another potential sibling feud.
He sighed and stood up to leave. Though, before leaving he snatched up the small platter of crackers and hurried out of sight. Behind him, he only heard his sister mutter something under her breath.
As Yoongi headed up the stairs he still felt warm and like he was walking on air. He laughed quietly to himself. I'm being an idiot. Why is something so small making me feel high all of a sudden? Liked, she said - past tense. He knew it was stupid to let it get to his head.
"...I liked you...," it replayed again and again.
Yoongi laughed to himself once more, though this time he wasn't sure why. But the uninvited smile on his face dropped suddenly when he remembered...
"Why the hell was she pissed off about liking me?" he mumbled to himself.
A thought then occurred to him - a plan - but he was being ridiculous. He remembered Jade telling Areum where she lived. What kind of weirdo would he be if he went to her apartment building just so he could ask her that?
JADE
When Autumn finally showed up, Jade was beyond relieved. She had just admitted something embarrassing and the older woman couldn't have interrupted at a more convenient time. The rest of the night went by pretty easily. Yoongi hadn't made any more appearances since her confession, for which she was grateful.
However, she did hold a tiny curiosity about how he felt about the whole thing. He probably hates her for treating him that way. No doubt he thought she must've been a crazy kid too. What psycho treats their crush like that? Her thoughts were full of regret during the drive home.
When Jade finally reached home, she felt absolutely exhausted and couldn't wait to get in bed. However, she figured an hour of writing couldn't hurt. She had nothing to wake up early for tomorrow anyway.
What was an hour of writing became two, then three. The next thing she knew she was waking up with a sore neck and aching back. She'd fallen asleep at her desk again.
"I really have to stop doing that," she rubbed her neck and stretched her back. Naturally she checked the time on her phone next to her sleeping laptop. She gasped, "it's noon already? I'm supposed to submit my first draft in thirty minutes!"
Jade hurried and added some last minute touches to the document before sending it in at 12:26 PM. In celebration she threw her fists in the air but yelped. The action triggered the ache in her back. Carefully, she massaged it as best as she could.
Knock, knock, knock.
The woman turned and watched the door, perplexed. She hadn't had a knock on her door since moving here. There was no reason she could imagine a reason there would be now. Maybe it was one of her neighbors who needed a favor. Or maybe it was Autumn. Out of the two Jade didn't know which one she'd prefer. Autumn was great to hang out with, but she was very energetic. Energetic people tended to drain her quickly and required her to take breaks in between visits.
Knock, knock, knock.
Jade's heart felt like it was being squeezed. She wasn't ready for company. In fact, she was still in her her pajamas...during the afternoon. What would they think? In that case she hoped it was Autumn. At least she wouldn't judge.
The writer traipsed to the door and checked the peephole.
She stumbled backwards into the wall, her face shocked. "What is he doing here?"
COLDER THAN WINTER: Chapter One [BTS fanfic]
The Rink Incident
Tumblr media
Fandom: BTS
Genre: Teen | Drama | Romance
Pairing: BTS x OC | Love Triangle
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1807
~.::.~
A glass vase shattered against the wall. Shards of glass and water exploded all over the carpet. The angry man roared before throwing himself back into his chair. With a red face he sat behind his desk which was centered in the room. He took a few seconds to himself, taking deep breaths. His eyes still fiery and full of hate as they looked down at the newspaper article in front of him. Not only do they fire him but they take his designs and claim it as their own?! That bastard CEO claimed it was for the moral reputation of the company that he be let go but goes ahead and steals credit for his work! Where's the morality in that? Does he really think he can do such a thing and get away with it?
~.::.~
As soon as the doors opened, the cold air of the skating rink hit us like a blizzard. My classmates and I let out jubilant gasps as we all filed in. It was a big relief for everyone since the week had been torturously humid. Not one student dared missed this trip. Which was both a good and bad thing, I supposed.
I looked toward the noisiest cluster of boys to the side. The one's already making bets on who can score the most numbers from the female skaters. Jungkook, Namjoon, Yoongi, and Taehyung had trouble written all over them. In fact it wasn't like them to participate in school activities. I guess even they couldn't turn down this trip because of the heat. Even so, I hope they keep their immature antics to themselves today. There was just something about ice skating that felt so magical. And I didn't want them to ruin it.
Speaking of magical, I looked in front of me toward the good part of this trip.
Kim Seokjin.
There he was, mid smile as he seemed to laugh in slow motion with his friends. My heart fluttered in my chest. How can anyone be so carefree and princelike. How?!
"Oh, Yurim! What are you smiling at?" Hosoek inquired with curiosity. I looked away, my face turning pink. But he was able to track my gaze anyway. "Ohhh, see something you like?" His eyebrows danced at me.
"Keep your voice down!" I panicked.
Hosoek was my best friend but he sure didn't know how to be subtle about things. "You should ask him to teach you to skate." He suggested.
"But I know how to skate. Besides I'm sure he'd rather teach someone prettier to skate." I replied cynically.
"Don't talk like that. You never know what might happen!" He patted my back. "Anyway maybe it's for the best. I need you to keep me from falling. We're gonna have so much fun!" Hoseok, the energizer bunny that he is, had a hop to match his animated voice of excitement. One couldn't help but feel energetic around him.
We both gave our shoe sizes to the person at the counter and grabbed our skates. I risked another look at Seokjin. He was already heading onto the ice with Park Jimin.
As expected. He glided over the ice, skating beautifully. I already heard the girls on the ice complimenting his skating.
I sighed and looked away.
But I was startled to meet a pair of eyes looking back at me in the distance.
Min Yoongi held his furrowed gaze for another second before coldly brushing me off. I felt my stomach twist before quickly turning away to put my skates on.
What was that about?
"You okay?" Hoseok asked beside me.
I smiled tightly ."I'm fine. Let's skate!"
"Oh, ya~! It's slippery!" Hoseok held on to the wall as we entered the ice. His feet inching further and further away from his guide.
I laughed at his awkward form. His rear end stuck out as he tried his best to scurry his feet closer to the wall. His high pitched squeal got louder with every unintended slip.
I attempted to choke back my laughter and helped bring him closer to the wall. "Well it is ice, so it's expected."
Hoseok continued on, using the wall to guide him as he got used to the ice. I stayed by his side to support him. While doing so I heard laughing from the bleachers across us. It seems they were laughing at Hoseok. I glared at them. My eyes flashed to Yoongi who happened to be distracted by his phone.
I had no problem with flipping them the bird but Hoseok always had a gift for not noticing negative things. I figured it was how he was able to be happy all the time. That's why he was the perfect friend for me. I needed to worry less about what people were thinking about me. Hoseok let one hand off the wall.
"Oh, nice! You're getting better!" I clapped.
He chuckled, "I'm still slow."
"You're about to do it without the wall. Once you get there you can work on your speed." I encouraged.
"Still though. You should go ahead. I'm keeping you from having fun." He insisted.
" Are you sure?" I was itching to fly without hesitation.
"Yeah, go! Go!"
I bit my lip, hesitating to leave him. "Okay, okay. I'll do two laps and then come back, okay?" He waved me off.
With a grateful smile I nodded and propelled myself forward, gaining more and more speed. The icy air that flew past me bit at my skin but it only added to the excitement. Most students wore earmuffs or beanies but I couldn't miss the feeling of the cold breeze whipping through my hair. I loved the cold!
Where there were people, I made sure to weave around them. I couldn't do fancy twirls or even skate backwards. I just enjoyed flying.
"Hi!"
The voice alone already startled me. But the face of that voice that appeared at my side made my knees weak, bringing me towards the ground.
"AHH!"
"Whoa!" Seokjin grabbed my arms. The action made us spin since we were both moving pretty fast. Fortunately, he was able to steady me until we both came to a safe stop. We both breathed a sigh of relief.
"I'm so sorry I scared you!" Seokjin apologized earnestly.
"No! It's okay, I was being reckless. It's partly my fault! " My face must've been beet red! How embarrassing. I probably looked so clumsy! I wanted to cover my face in embarrassment but he was still holding my hands.
Wait.
He was...holding...my HANDS?!
I gulped as I stared at my hands in his. The sight was alien. But a good alien. What am I even saying? Suddenly everything didn't feel real. It felt more like I was watching something happen to someone else through their eyes.
"Oh." He noticed too. The handsome gentleman chuckled nervously before letting my hands go. "Sorry."
I could only manage a shy nod.
"Anyway, I followed you because you looked like you were having the most fun. You're a very good skater." He beamed.
My chest burned at his smile, my cheeks warm at his compliment. "I'm really not that great. I just like feeling the cold air."
"She pretended to fall just so he could help her, right? Desperate much?" I noticed the girls passing by seemed to be whispering about us. Probably wondering why he's talking to me of all people.
"Me too." Seokjin responded. "It feels like flying. Or...at least what I think it feels like." He chuckled.
"Me too!"
Wow, we both thought the same way about skating! It makes me wonder what else we have in common. I should ask him to skate with me right? He was going to anyway. He said he followed me. The thought sent shivers down my spine. I decided to go for it.
"Should we-"
"Watch out!" He shouted.
It happened so fast. Something caught Seokjin's eye before he pushed me away. I fell on the ice when suddenly someone slammed into Seokjin. Both he and whoever ran into him flew into the wall.
"Seokjin-shi!"
Next came the ugly, familiar cackles I knew too well. The troublemakers stopped by just to laugh in our faces. All but one. I looked at the boy who bumped into Seokjin. Clearly those jerks pushed the poor guy, but it looked like Seokjin endured most of the impact. I rushed over to his side.
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. I think my shoulder's just dislocated." He sucked in a breath when he tried to move his arm.
"Don't move! We'll get help." I looked at the boy who was now concerned about Seokjin as much as I was. "You, let the teachers know what happened and send for help!"
He nodded anxiously, got up and headed for the exit as fast as he could.
Then, as if the cruelty couldn't get any worse, Seokjin and I were suddenly hit with a wave of shaved ice. I gasped at the cold but my body was scorching. My blood boiled past all realms of sanity. My eyes darted toward the culprit. I found Yoongi standing over us like his friends. He had been the one who hockey stopped next to us, covering us in snow. His face was totally blank. He wasn't even laughing like his dumb friends. He was just...cold. He simply sighed and skated off.
So, what? That's why you were looking at me before? Were you and your friends planning this?! Don't you have better things to do?!
My eyes returned to the rest who were still braying like donkeys.
"Hey!" I shot up from the ice. Seokjin tried to stop me but I wasn't in the mood to just take this crap. "Are you crazy?! Something more serious could've happened!"
The three boys were only more amused with my reaction.
"Wow~! She looks cute when she's mad!" Taehyung stared, amazed. As though examining an animal in captivity.
Namjoon stepped forward and continued in a cool, casual tone. "You're right. Something serious could've happened. But that's what makes this game so fun! You never know what'll happen, it's so exciting!"
I scoffed, unable to believe what I just heard. "A game? That's what this is? Are you asking to get beat up?"
They ooh'd and laughed among themselves as they mocked me, which was the last straw. I didn't tell it to, but my body just reacted. My arm flew forward, a fist aiming for Namjoon's chin.
JUST ME VENTING ABOUT MY PERFECTIONIST PROBLEMS...
Tumblr media
As I’m looking around and discovering what Tumblr is like, I noticed the posts that really get my attention are the ones with images at the beginning. So of course when I copied and pasted my first chapter of Colder Than Winter, it bugged me that I didn’t have a visual to add with it.
On the other platforms I posted visuals of locations that were relevant to the chapter but that’s so boring! So now I’ve been trying to make some nice chapter visuals before I start posting the story itself.
On top of that I keep readjusting my blog in different ways and struggling to settle on anything. Nothing ever feels just right...
I really wanna get a move on, but I also want to do this right, ya know?
Anyway, as always, if you’re interested in reading my BTS fanfic and don’t care about my perfectionist need to make these darn visuals, you can read it now on: Wattpad, AO3, Penana, and Inkitt. Enjoy!
If not, take this gif of my imaginary husband, Yoongi!! Take it! Take it and like it!
You’re welcome! xD
There is a disconnect between how we feel inside and what we are able to express openly.
There is a gulf between how we see others and how they see themselves.
There is a vast chasm between how others see us, and how we see ourselves.
We are beings constructed of limited understanding, selective consciousness, and wildly subjective observations. We wrap ourselves in distance and illusion to protect our squishy, insecure, needy insides.
And therein lies the slow burn, my friends. The mutual pining that thinks it is unrequited but in fact, is fully requited.
Therein lies the misunderstandings. The painfully shy character seen as aloof. The desperate character seen as arrogant. The lonely character seen as glamorous.
And when you create that moment of clarity, that vulnerable spark of honest human connection against all odds. therein lies the
Oh.
Oh.
Introduction Post
FIRST POST!! And first timer to Tumblr! I know...where have I been right?
Anyway I thought I’d make my first post an introduction post. Is that a really cliche thing to do?
I won’t bore you with details about myself but I will brief you on what I plan to do here in the land of Tumblr. First, I decided to make a Tumblr to experiment expanding my reach as I have been doing with other socials. So far IG and Twitter are the only ones I like (even though I have zero followers on Twitter lol. If you’re on Twitter, take pity on me xD If you do and want me to follow back just let me know you’re from Tumblr and I’ll know you’ve shown me a great kindness lol!). And I’m liking Tumblr so far so this may just be the end of my search for my big three socials! YES!
Fan-fiction Types
As for the type of fanfics I plan on writing, here’s a list of fandoms and franchises I’d likely write fanfic for:
BTS
Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings
Percy Jackson & the Olympians
Star Wars
Maze Runner
Marvel
And any new releases that get my fangirl gears turning xD
I’m currently writing a BTS fanfiction called Colder Than Winter and have a couple more BTS ideas, one of them being a crossover with HP (no canons but they exist). I haven’t come up with any lengthy plots for the other worlds on the list yet so for the time being I’ll probably pop out some flashfiction for them when I have the time. Of course if you have any short story ideas, you’re welcome to make requests! <3
Pairing Preferences
I write Canon x OC pairings and pairings. I don’t know what it is, but I just can’t write canons with other canons. Maybe it’s because I have this weird tendency to think that I MUST make them exactly the way their original writer’s wrote them. That’s a lot of pressure I guess and when they’re even slightly ooc I get discouraged and feel like I’ve done them a disservice.
When they’re paired with an OC at least they get to react to a new character and therefore it would make sense for them to act different and develop in an alternative way.
For BTS fanfics ‘canon’ translates to me as the members being themselves as we know them in reality. So if I make them completely different people member x member shouldn’t be a problem but member x OC will always be my go-to.
I also find it difficult to write (and read) Y/N and reader fics too. I’m sorry, but years of reading novels just programed me to expect a name and reading Y.N or “you” just brings me out of it and writing it makes me feel even weirder. So I’ve decided OCs will be a consistent thing with my fanfics.
Anyway, I think I got my main points out. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! If you’ve gotten this far in my post, YOU ARE AMAZING! Thank you so much for reading!
‘Til next time fellow geniuses!
Some awesome ideas I wanna save for later 👀💜
Dorky but very fun things to do to fall back in love with your writing/story:
Create a mood board of how you think your characters would dress. Bonus points if it's the opposite style of how you usually do.
Put your characters into Artflow and see them come to life through AI!
Make a playlist for the movie adaption of your book from the opening sequence to the end credits.
Write a letter between two characters (if you handwrite it, try to come up with unique handwriting for each character)
Create a manifestation book! I have a ring-bound book in which I write all my writing goals and record any milestones. Feel free to go wild with this and dream big as no one has to see it! Buy washi tape that fits your book's theme.
Go to a pizza store or Starbucks and order using your character's name. I like seeing how close they are to the spelling on the receipt, or hearing them call out the name across the store!
Pretend that there's such a thing as the Book Oscars and pick out what you would wear to it and practice your acceptance speech as the best book of the year in your genre.
Create an Instagram for your characters and post photos you think they would post. (Hint: use Unsplash to find aesthetic royalty free photos)
Play Akinator (basically a 20 questions game) and find out which existing character is most like yours.
Splurge on your birthday and commission an artist to draw your characters. It's amazing to see them come to life!
