I’ve never attempted to show the way I work before, so I thought it’d be fun to post a gif process this once. From this post. :^) My typical steps are:
1. Sketch
2. Line art
3. Shadow
4. Base color (I actually did base color before shadow though LOL)
5. Color unification
6. Adjustments
The process between 5 and 6 was the most troublesome and longest part for this piece… After I plant base color, what I do is try to unify colors and make them more appealing by hue/saturation play, through various layer modes and editing. Once I find something I like, I then do further adjustments, bringing back any lost contrast/color interest. What was difficult was trying to keep the vibrancy. The more I went away from the simplified color scheme to improve values in 5, the more I lost it. The challenge for this piece was all about finding the interesting balance between simplicity and complexity, while keeping the mood I wanted! I learned a lot making this. :D
