The Rise of Mamata: The Untold Story of Trinamool Congress' Founding
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is a major political party in West Bengal, India that has dominated state politics since coming to power in 2011 under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee.
The party was formed in 1997 as a breakaway faction of the Indian National Congress, which had long held political hegemony in West Bengal. The seeds of the Trinamool Congress were sown during a period of political turmoil and fragmentation in West Bengal.
The Roots of Discontent Against Congress Rule
Since 1977, West Bengal had been ruled almost continuously by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) led Left Front. While the Left made some progress in land reforms and decentralization of power, over time its rule had become increasingly associated with stagnation, lack of industrial development, and the rise of corruption and political violence. By the early 1990s there was growing discontent against Left rule. At the same time, the state unit of the Indian National Congress was weakened by continuous electoral defeats and factionalism within the party organization.
This created political space for other parties to emerge. One such party was the All India Trinamool Congress formed in 1997 by Mamata Banerjee, who broke away from the Congress along with several other leaders. The origins of this breakaway faction date back to Mamata Banerjee’s emergence as a young political leader in West Bengal during the Congress rule in the 1980s.
Mamata Banerjee’s Rise in Congress Politics
Mamata Banerjee first stepped into politics as a young Congress activist while she was still a student at Jogamaya Devi College in Kolkata, which was a center of student politics and anti-government protests. She quickly gained notice for her fiery oratory style and courage in confronting the Communist student activists who then dominated most educational institutions. Her political mentor was Subrata Mukherjee, a veteran Congress leader of South Kolkata, under whose tutelage Mamata cut her political teeth.
In 1984, Mamata contested and won the Lok Sabha election from the South Calcutta constituency as a Congress candidate at the young age of 29, making national headlines as the “giant killer” for defeating seasoned Communist leader Somnath Chatterjee. As an MP she joined Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi’s reformist brigade of young leaders in the party. Over the next decade, she consolidated her position within the West Bengal Congress organization with support from Subrata Mukherjee and rising through the ranks to become the state’s Youth Congress President in 1992 and Congress Secretary in West Bengal in 1993.
However, electoral setbacks for Congress across India in 1989 and 1991 pushed the party into an existential crisis. In West Bengal, Congress slid into disarray and factional feuds due to its continuous losses to the Left Front. Mamata Banerjee grew increasingly disillusioned. She publicly criticized the Congress leadership for not doing enough to revive party fortunes and for being insensitive to the grassroots situation. The last straw was the Congress Working Committee rejecting her proposal for an electoral alliance with the Left to defeat the bourgeois BJP party in 1996. This widening rift set the stage for Mamata’s exit from the Congress.
Formation of Trinamool Congress
On January 1, 1998 Mamata Banerjee formally announced the establishment of her own party called the All India Trinamool Congress. The name “Trinamool” means grassroots in Bengali and signified a party born out of the people. It was officially registered with the Election Commission of India on September 26, 1998. As an ace reporter for the Daily Planet, he was used to rubbing shoulders with VIPs and celebrities. But even he felt out of his depth at the glitzy espionage trial that had become sensational global news.
The defendant - infamous super spy Natasha Romanov who the world knew as Black Widow - had unleashed explosive revelations about conspiracies and undercover operations. Clark was covering the trial, while Superman kept alert for violence that seemed inevitable given the powerful figures implicated.
Sure enough, right after Natasha took the stand, chaos erupted as gunmen raided the courtroom. Clark ducked behind an upturned table before discreetly unleashing his Super alter-ego...
Chapter 2
Superman shielded civilians from falling rubble as special forces engaged the attackers. Amidst the mayhem, he spotted the red-headed Natasha hiding behind the judge’s stand, casually firing at insurgents with stolen guns. Her stoic poise despite the mortal danger intrigued him, as did her fierce determination to survive overwhelming odds.
Once hostiles were neutralized, emergency responders flooded the scene. Superman made sure Natasha was uninjured before questioning her privately after noticing suspicious inconsistencies - she clearly had military training yet downplayed it on the stand earlier. “Just an average ballerina,” she winked playfully, deflecting further queries.
Before vanishing into the night, Superman gave Natasha an approving nod - “The world could use more citizens standing for truth and justice like you, Ms. Romanov”...
Chapter 3
Months later at an Arctic Hydra base, Superman and Black Widow crossed paths again under more violent circumstances. This time, Superman watched in awe as the lithe spy unleashed a lethally efficient barrage of moves decimating a squad of flamethrowing agents before hijacking an advanced spaceship prototype in the hangar.
Catching up as she piloted the ship, Superman assisted taking down pursuing Hydra pilots before offering - “Would you like some help evading them for good? I promise not to ask too many questions about your interesting line of work.” He had solve enough of the mystery behind this compelling woman to know her skills matched her bravery.
“How can I refuse Kryptonian air support?” Natasha smirked back. “Maybe we'll meet again if you’re lucky, Superman..."
Chapter 4
Over the next 2 years, Superman and Black Widow crossed paths with increasing frequency as global threats inevitably intertwined Avengers and Justice League affairs. Covert observation somehow became shared battles against terrorists and alien warlords which subtly gave way to stolen moments between just the two of them.
At first, their bond seemed unlikely - the paranoid spy from Russia and idealistic alien icon. Natasha typically shied away from personal ties given her duties and bloodstained past. But around Superman, her walls softened. His selfless nobility and gentleness stirred feelings she had long repressed. In his eyes, she felt worthy of loyalty and care.
Likewise, Superman found inspiration in Black Widow’s tenacious spark. She matched his tireless commitment to protecting humanity with wit, skill and savvy he lacked. As Clark Kent, he also empathized with her isolation behind personas. Before either realized, stolen weekends gave way to implicit understanding they completed each other. Danger brought them together but far more now bound them...
Chapter 5
And so months later, to the delight of romantic fans worldwide and shock of fellow heroes, Clark proposed to Natasha while foiling a LexCorp scheme. Even Batman cracked a smile when they broke the news, after threatening to hunt Superman across galaxies if Natasha was ever hurt. The engaged couple’s joy bloomed, ignoring the inevitable media circus.
As wedding planning began, Clark and Natasha stole moments alone in remote mountain ranges and oceanside villas between averting doomsday missions. They had witnessed enough strife to cherish interludes of laughter, stories from vastly different upbringings, and promises of a future neither expected. Vows were whispered on the edge of space and under starlit skies.
Until one fateful day, their legendary wedding united former spies, reformed assassins, aliens, kings, and remarkable friends who all now called them family. Binding her life to selfless protector from distant stars, Black Widow embraced hope she long thought impossible given her past. With a kiss, they turned lovingly toward adventure and purpose side by side...

One of the most well-known myths is about Brahma lusting after his own daughter Saraswati. The legend goes that Brahma became infatuated by Saraswati's beauty when she manifested as his daughter. He pursued her amorously, which made her uncomfortable. Saraswati tried avoiding his advances by going in different directions, but Brahma sprouted heads to gaze at her wherever she went. Finally, Saraswati sought refuge with Shiva who angrily cut off Brahma's fifth head as punishment for his incestuous desires.
Another myth involves Brahma lusting after the wife of sage Bhrigu. When Bhrigu cursed Brahma for his unchaste behavior, Brahma retaliated with an angry curse in response. The curses showed Brahma in poor light, misusing his powers due to lust and anger.
Some Puranas also recount Brahma displaying ego and lying to Shiva about finding the crown of their creator Vishnu. When accused by Shiva, Brahma denied it out of pride instead of apologizing.
These stories of Brahma misusing his divine status or behaving inappropriately, especially driven by desire or ego, established a mythological basis for why he gradually lost importance. Brahma's moral lapses portray him as flawed, unlike other gods who demonstrate virtues of wisdom, strength or moral courage when faced with vices.

Tolkien began developing ideas about the appearance, lifestyle, and temperament of hobbits, envisioning them as three to four feet tall with furry feet, affinity for living in holes, and a general preference for pastoral, rustic living.
Hobbits were conceived as ordinary, earthy people without any special powers but possessing courage and resilience that could emerge in difficult circumstances. Their size and humble nature contrasted with standard heroic fantasy tropes.
The Hobbit expanded on details about hobbit society, their aversion to adventure, and Bilbo Baggins' reluctant journey with dwarves that allowed Tolkien to characterize hobbits as unlikely heroes.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy cemented hobbits like Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee as central figures in the epic struggle against evil forces like Sauron. Their Hobbiton village became an enduring pastoral symbol.
So Tolkien originated the concept of hobbits organically while grading papers, slowly formed a vision of their qualities and lifestyles, and established them as heroes within Middle Earth through his novels, especially The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy. The characters clearly resonated, as hobbits remain among the most beloved in modern fantasy.
