Clearly something fishy is afoot, whether that's from kits birthed for the purpose of this poll, or popular blogs like @​mouse and @swanstar-official badgering their kittypet followers to vote for their Clan. And clearly the subversion does not come from all sides in this debate. I have half a mind to declare ThunderClan the winner, just out of spite.

If RiverClan or ShadowClan 'wins' by cheating, fraud, intimidation, and manipulation, does that 'prove' that it is the best? Hardly. an ode to my Ellie’s switchblade tattoo 🌿🗡️ ☟

there are pictures of a tattoo under the cut, some may have blood. proceed with caution if you are squeamish with blood <3 / there’s a long explanation of this tattoo under the pictures!

stencil ; I moved the stencil around 3 times before I decided the placement was perfect! (my artist told me I was low maintenance because I only moved it three times and we only had to use one piece of stencil) (also, ft. my Jill shirt another artist complimented!)

freshly done ; around 5 minutes after being tattooed on my arm! (picture by my artist!)

20 minutes later ; in my car about to drive home, covered in sani-derm (which I later realized doesn’t get along well with my skin) excited to go home and get some sleep (really I stared at it the rest of the night)

a week later ; here she is a week later, still itchy and still a little peel-y, but she’s healing really well. every time someone sees it, they ask what the significance is, and I get to talk about Ellie <3

when considering my first ever tattoo, I knew I wanted something The Last of Us themed. I contemplated getting Ellie’s tattoo, but it is quite large and would have been very expensive. I also just have no desire to have a tattoo that big.

I considered some quotes as well, such as “when you’re lost in the darkness, look for the light” (double meaning bc it’s the Firefly motto and Ellie’s name literally means ‘light’) or “if I ever were to lose you, I’d surely lose myself”. but I decided against lettering as lettering bleeds if not done in thick lining and runs the risk of being misspelled.

I still have an ambition to get the moths Ellie draws in her journal in pt. 2, but that’s for the future. I also heavily considered getting something like the giraffe scene or something about the birthday flash back from pt. 2. but, for now, I went with a simple decision of getting Ellie’s switchblade.

it is essentially a black and grey replica of her switchblade on my outer left wrist (a twist tattoo basically). it is around 4 inches and actually very detailed for being so small.

I sat on this particular design and location for about a week before I caved and went to talk with my artist. (although I’ve wanted a TLOU tattoo for a little over a year now) he got me in the next day and did my tattoo. in all, I was there for a little over an hour and in the chair for around 40 minutes.

this tattoo actually means so much to me as The Last of Us video game series is one of my all time favorite things in this world, and my favorite games. I’ve Platinumed one of the games and am working to Platinum the other. I have hundreds of hours worth of gameplay of both games combined. this series of games means a lot to me for some emotional reasons. one of them (and maybe the biggest) being it helped me come to terms with my sexuality. which sounds a little silly, but it’s true.

I love these games, and Ellie as well. I find her relatable to me and I have a deep love for her and the plot itself. while I no longer support Druckman or Naughty Dog, these games will always have a huge significance to me and will always be close to my heart <3

Apologies if this info is somewhere on your blog already, but I'm a huge nerd and want to know all about the trap situation! Is the moth trap purely recreational or part of a study? You mentioned counting them- what sort of data are you recording and are there any interesting implications you've noticed? Have you played around with variables like position of the trap or proximity to certain plants affecting counts?

No problem. The moth trap I use is a modified skinner trap from AngLeps. Best birthday present EVER! It uses an actinic bulb to attract moths. It's for my own interest not part of a study, but I do record all the visitors (beetles, bees, hemipterans, wasps, caddisflies, and non-biting midge species as well as moths.) I use iRecord to input data for our county moth recorder, & I'm part of a group that uses iNaturalist too. I record which species and how many show up. Then I release the moths away from the trap bc birds are usually hanging around the trap shelter looking for a mothy snack!

I live in an urban area, and while I'm lucky to have a decent garden, there are houses on all sides. So I can't move it around much without pissing off my neighbours bc the light is very bright. That's my main restriction - most of my neighbours are understanding but no-one needs to be kept awake by a bat-signal-like moth-beacon 😂

Most of my garden is filled with what I'd call wildflowers but most ppl call weeds. I manage them so no single species dominates, and have more than 30 species that are mostly moth food-plants. So they do have their preferred plants nearby.

Here's my trap - the garden chairs block the light from shining in my own bedroom window!

Re implications from the data... Last year I recorded a third of the moths as the year before, and so far this year? Moth numbers are depressingly terrible. This is probably because last summer's drought killed off a lot of plants, and that had knock on effects. Also we had a very cold spring with late frosts. So locally moths are having a hard time. But that's all the more reason to grow weeds and talk about moths so that more people love them and try to help grow food plants for them 🦋🐛🌿💖

Not a current project, but a future one! It isn’t on the needles just yet, but the yarn is in hand, and I am Itching To Make It. It is going to be a cropped sweater top, with floaty bishop sleeves, in a blood/wine red. It would be on the needles already, but I figure I should finish at least one of my current current ones! 😅

And because it is the Summer Solstice today, I also want to re-share my Solstice Shawl, which reminds me of sunlight/phoenix fire! I finished it about a year ago today! ☀️

🌿 What tips would you give a beginner? What is something you wish you had known when you started?

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and rip back! I made so many plain old hats and scarves for many years because I was afraid to branch out and try more difficult things. And then I tried to do more difficult techniques, and turns out they aren’t so difficult after all (plus, it helps that there are so many helpful videos these days; it was much harder many years ago!). Plus, even if a mistake is made, it is not so big a deal to rip back!

That, and lifelines!! They are a lifesaver esp with lace and also when playing yarn chicken!

Oh! And one more- store yarn/finished items in ziploc bags or plastic bins with lavender soap or sachets- keeps moths away (and the lavender smells nice too!). (I unfortunately learnt abt moths the hard way 😫)

they are under the shelter of the straw house in kattegat, watching the village, light rain falling down the roof. he sees his self, athelstan, in future remembrance.

‘ a ghost, ‘ the older had said he was, to the one looking at his grey blue discolour, a white shirt clad on his torso and pants which were a little long ( so he rolled the sleeves up ).

he himself, aethelstan, is wearing a light brown shirt with flowing sleeves ( embroidered at hem ) and the same pants. he sees athelstan has a faint scar on his hand, from being crucified in the cross, asking ‘ could I touch your hand? ‘ pain is echoing in his chest, as he folds his flowy arms and sees the other.

he missed lindisfarne, where ragnar and the vikings had raided. kattegat was quite strange in its ways, it having shaken him. they saw him as a virgin monk to be slaughtered and sold, and did not care about him or his lindisfarne family ( he seeing his brothers hung crudely with a rope tied to washing lines and logs of wood for campfires. )

as athelstan speaks to the younger, having seen him when praying at the seashore, he and ragnar were talking about paris in the sand. he remembers being in a raid with his fellow vikings, his black purple hair swaying in breeze and sighing in wistful sadness ( as he is on the boat to england ). there was a bookstore of manuscripts in lindisfarne, which he touched the yellowing crackle of paper ( with beautiful calligraphic ink ).

there was a beautiful mountain overlooking the sea there, which aethelstan liked going to during his monastic studies before the vikings pillaged and plundered, to see and hear the rushing sound of the waters trickling through. it brought him peace and calm, as did the silver cross he wore.

athelstan had felt sorrow and sentimental, in furrowing of his brows and slight groove of his forehead in touch, a brown moth moving its wings in the paper. as aethelstan touches the other’s hand. he enjoyed photography, and colours of the landscape. ‘ low key colour, ‘ he continues. ‘ I was in the grey storm waters, holding out my hand to ragnar. ‘

he had said to ragnar to be there for his sons, after the words of mercy.

he remembers when cooking fish in the house, that he was less interested in escaping now, as he talks to the wider eyed man, ‘ I never believed I would fall in love, ‘

ragnar had been at church with him, and they were fighting in a battle against saxons. the dane warrior had seen a bleeding wound with mud on his friend’s cheek, and had handed some green herbs 🌿 and water to fight the infection. athelstan cradling his cheek with them and tree bark bandage, and saying he was kind and tender-hearted. he had draped on a brown woollen coat with blue grey armor.

Las Nevadas looked tiny from the edge of the hotel roof. People scurried like lost ants along the main street, from the entrance of the city straight to the casino, and beyond to the other attractions, such as the Eiffel Tower or the many bars and pubs. Everything was illuminated with bright lights, colorful cones danced across the white walls of the casino and attracted visitors like moths to the light and thus into the building.

You had been watching the spectacle for some time, it had become your favorite pastime since Quackity had officially declared the Metropolis open. The previously eerily empty streets were now filled at all hours, visitors didn't care that the casino didn't open its doors to their greedy hands until nighttime; they just wanted to stay in the city and experience it all. Some claimed to have been here for weeks out of fear of missing something, or another had to be shooed away from the steps of the casino several times as he slept there until the evening to be one of the first inside.

You pitied these people, while you yourself were caught in a similar situation, only that your magnet to which you were attracted was not a place, but a person. A person who walked around somewhere down there and amused the tourists or lured them into the bars.

Foolish had always fascinated you, not only was he a fantastic builder whose artwork took your breath away and left you raving for hours, but he also had a personality like no other you had ever met. You hung on his lips in every conversation, your heart leapt with every laugh, and you wanted to be glued to his heels every step of the way to spend as much time with him as possible. He was addictive, from his welcoming smile to the deep conversations you had on this rooftop.

You knew how badly you had fallen for him and you knew you couldn't avoid telling him any longer or you would explode! You were both old enough to react maturely, even if he rejected you, you'd rather that than spend eternity in ignorance, hoping he wouldn't fall in love with you too.

It was this confession that you had been thinking about for hours now, alone on the edge of the hotel where you and Foolish had lain at noon today, watching the sun make its way across the clear sky.

After all, it couldn't be that hard, you would just go up to him and say:

"Foolish, I'm in love with you".

Maybe you would follow it up with a "Please don't hate me", but on the other hand you didn't want to guilt trip him and let him make his decision about his feelings.

"You're still here," Foolish's voice rang out behind you, still in a tone he usually used to talk to tourists to sell them the town and lure them into the casino's honey trap.

Without turning around, you tapped the seat next to you with your right hand. "Can we talk for a minute?"

"Oh, am I in trouble?" quipped Foolish as he walked over to you and sat down next to you with a groan, his long legs thrown over the edge and dangling in the air. When you didn't answer, he looked at you in slight wonder. "Is everything all right with you?"

"Foolish," you put in, keeping your eyes on the streets teeming with tourists so you wouldn't have to look directly at the rejection on his face, "Foolish I have to tell you something, about you and me."

You heard him draw in a sharp breath.

"(y/n) before you speak I need to tell you something too" he interrupted you.

Your hands clawed at the edge of the building as you jettisoned your plan to stick it out straight to him and instead swallowed down the all-changing words. No matter what he might say now, maybe you wouldn't have to embarrass yourself afterward and just forget about it all. Maybe he'd move away, or had met someone.

"(Y/n)..there is something between us and it's the most beautiful thing I have ever felt".

Huh?

"What?" You turned to Foolish, in none of the scenarios in your head had he ever returned your feelings, what the hell was he talking about?

Foolish's cheeks were colored a beautiful pink, one that definitely didn't come from the city lights. "I like you, a lot, more than I like you as a friend."

"Foolish" Your heart jumped in your chest and at the mention of his name, hope lit up in the eyes of the man across from you. "Foolish I was just about to tell you that I'm falling in love with you."

"Wait really?"

"Yes! I've been thinking about how to tell you all day and then you beat me to it!"

Foolish laughed and moved closer, his hand lightly brushing his and you were sure, your cheeks were now a few shades redder too. "That shows exactly what I meant, we're a perfect match," he murmured, his gaze fixed firmly on your lips.
