Some silly headcanons about the Obey Me brothers

• Mammon will ALWAYS go for you after school/work. One day after a long day of hard work, you were going normally like every day you left the building to go home and you noticed a lot of people surrounding what seemed to be a luxurious car, "whatever" you thought, but before continuing With your way you heard how a well-known voice yelled at you "Oi human! Get in! We're goin for some shoppin spree at Gucci now!" and there you understood that the person in the luxurious car was your favorite demon... what a shame to draw attention like that, hmph.

• Lucifer sometimes will take you out shopping just for you to flex him on your social media, he's really proud of himself when it comes to being your (sugar daddy lol) economic whims supporter. "Yes, my darling. You can take a photo of us with these... weird looking teas?, whatever makes you happy".

• Beel loves, he really ADORES when you both bake something together, not just because he loves to eat but also because you always try to make him not to eat the ingredients, and he intentionally teases you with that just to see your "angry" face. "Beel, drop that spoon. Now... No, Beel, don't touch the chocolate... Beel, no, Beel, BEELZEBUB!!!" "Hahaha, sorry, sorry. It just tastes really good".

• Levi is a hardcore otaku and we all know that, but he's also a really big fan of K-Pop, in fact, he loves K-Pop as much as Zaramela's music, so he could (and will) force you to learn a lot of the choreographies. "Okay! So this one goes like: pose, hands, move, move, pose and "anti-ti-ti-ti-fragile fragile ×2... Got it??" "Uhhh".

• Shopping and sleepover with Asmo is something nice and fun but partying???? He's the best! He will always invite you to party at the weekend and when you say yes he's the happiest demon in the Devildom. "We're gonna match outfits together! I want you to be the prettiest, after me, so when my succubies meet you they fall for you!" and since he's well known the DJ always plays the music he wants, so if you want to dance to any specific song he will make play that for you, "Slaaay queen! Look at your moves!".

• Themes cafe dates are a must when you go out with Satan, he just adores visiting every cute themed cafe in the city, Alice in Wonderland themed cafe? check, baroque themed cafe? check, anime themed cafe??? also check, CAT THEMED CAFE? ABSOLUTELY CHECK! "There's a new alpaca themed cafe on the west side of the city, we're going today" "But I haven't said yes yet..." "I don't care, I made reservations" "Oh".

• Belphie nap dates are boring sometimes, so he decides to take them to another level. Camping dates with Belphie (even if it's in the backyard of the house) where you both can see the stars, eat s'mores (ft Beel) and fall asleep together because it gets cold at midnight. "That one, there, is not a star" "No??" "No, that's Mercury" "Ohh... I heard that Mercury is retrograde now" "... What does that even mean?".

Sudden Soulmates (Idia)

When you touch your soulmate for the first time, the memories of the past life you two first fell in love return.

Idia has never bothered with his soulmark, or the lack thereof. In fact, part of him feels rather pleased that at least that aspect of his life wasn't decided by outside forces.

Does that mean he'll probably die as a forever alone icky otaku? Yeah. But at least it'll be his choice.

For someone with such low self-esteem, Idia can be rather prideful. Being thrown around by a force he cannot fight directly, be it his family curse or Fate itself, will never sit well with him. The mere idea of bowing to them makes his skin crawl.

Idia just wants to do what he wants, like what he likes, like how he lives.

Not even Ortho's death could stop that.

So it's safe to say he is not happy when he comes out of his first shower in two days and there's suddenly a soulmark smack dab on his chest, right in the middle of his sternum.

The first scream is of terror. The second is of rage.

Poor Ortho has to use 100% of his processing power to both calm down Idia and make sure the room—maybe even the House dorm itself—doesn't melt at the mercy of fiery hair.

Idia absolutely hates his soulmate and he has not even met the person. He's frantically looking up information on soulmates, trying to understand how a soulmark can just appear so suddenly.

By all means, it makes no sense. Soulmarks do not appear, they're either there or not. Even if one soulmate is fated to be born after the other, the mark will still exist on the older one. A soulmark can only form in the transition from one life to another, in the brief moment between death and rebirth, as a result of a grand love lived.

If Idia really is meant to have a soulmate, the mark should've always been there from the moment his mother got pregnant.

But it wasn't.

But now it is.

And he doesn't want it.

He doesn't want to want it.

Yet. Yet he rubs his chest unconsciously when he's thinking. Yet he stares at it whenever he takes off his shirt. Yet he draws it whenever he has a pen on hand.

He figures the keys represent him, and the pomegranate... Seven, he cringes just thinking about it, but if the keys represent Hades—the keeper of the Keys of the Underworld—, then the pomegranate can only represent Persephone, Hade's loyal and beloved wife. Idia's fated one.

He dares not say it out loud, but Ortho cares not and blurts it out as soon as he sees the mark. The boy is over the moon with the knowledge that his older brother has a fated one. Idia spends a good amount of time telling Ortho that hacking into everyone's medical records to look for a soulmark description that matches his is not a good idea, even if Idia himself is extremely curious.

Will they start switching bodies suddenly? Will they remember the past life that started their love? Will they feel the mark burn when they're near? Will they dream of each other? Soulmarks that aren't names are in no way rare, but they also tend to make it hard to find each other, though the rise of social media has made it immensely easier.

Oh, well. It's not like his soulmate will want him. And he still bitter about the whole Fate thing.

Meeting them would be just terrible, really.

But still...

"Idia? You ok, buddy?"

Idia startles from his thoughts just in time to catch the coin he had mindlessly tried to push inside the vending machine through its glass before it can fall. Oh, Great Seven, why must this happen to him?

Why today? Why her? Why now? Why him?

"A–ah! He... Hello, Prefect..." Idia mumbles, trying to hide his humiliation. The tech guy trying to push the coin through the glass of the vending machine, how embarrassing is that? Kill him now.

"Hello. Everything ok? You're thinking so hard, your hair is burning your coat."

He yelps, hand going to the back of his neck, trying to feel if his coat is really burnt—it is. Not by much, but he can feel the burned texture. And if he concentrates a bit, he can smell it too.

"Kill me now."

"Don't be like that! It's understandable, really, I'm sure you're coming up with something cool in that incredible mind of yours!"

"N–not really..." He mumbles, turning back to the machine in hopes she won't see how embarrassed he feels by both her presence and her compliment. "Wanna something? M... M–my treat."

"Oh, no, you don't need to–"

"As... As a thanks for, uh, for hanging out with Ortho. He really likes you."

And he does, Ortho likes the Ramshackle Housewarden so much he has even mentioned wishing that she was Idia's soulmate, so he could have his two favorite people as siblings. Idia wasn't sure on how he felt about that back then, and he isn't sure about it now, so he just shoves the coin inside the hole and punches in the hot chocolate number.

"Did Ortho tell you I like that?"

"... Yeah..."

Thank the Seven the machine is quick. This weird half conversation might kill him.

Clumsily, Idia takes the beverage and holds it to her, praying his hair doesn't change colors when a million anime scenes like this flash in his mind.

Though it's not them that prevent him from hearing her thanks. It's how their hands touch for the first time ever as she takes the can from him, and how he is not Idia anymore.

He is Hades.

Surrounded by flowers and curious critters, frowning at their adorableness. Disgusting. He wants to burn them all, but then his companion laughs and his anger burns away, only ashes in this sea of love.

"Hades," the woman holding his hands smiles warmly, her hair the same color of wheat, her eyes the same hue as spring.

Had he been a mortal, he'd believe piously that she is the only divine to ever grace existence.

"Persephone," her other hand touches his chest, right the middle of it where his ribs meet, and he sighs her name again. "Persephone."

"You must return soon, my all. Our Kingdom cannot thrive without you," she warns, but the kiss to his cheek prays a different litany.

"I cannot thrive without you, my everything," he admits, for she'd know even if he lied.

"It is only temporary, love. I shall always return to you, for my place is by your side."

Hades takes her hand to his lips, kissing it with a gentleness he once believed himself incapable of. Her skin is warm, but not searing like his could get, just warm like gentle sunlight. Her skin tastes of life as he kisses up her arm, and her lips of promises of happiness.

He shall wait for her, for all eternity.

He is Idia again.

And he's kissing (Y/N), the magicless Prefect.

"Hrnk!" He quickly steps back, covering his face with his hands, trying to get his heart and his hair to calm down before he overheats.

"... Idia?" Perse–(Y/N) calls his name, and before he can process what he's feeling, he's back in her personal space, hugging her to his chest, almost purring when one of her hands rest on his chest, where his—their soulmark rests.

"You... I... You came back..."

"I did, yeah. Sorry for being late," she smiles warmly, like sunlight, gentle and shiny.

When he leans back down to kiss her again, he's not sure who exactly he is, other than the man who loves and is loved by her.

Yoshihiro Togashi Handwritten Letter

Togashi sent a handwritten letter to the idol Yumiko Seki, answering 11 questions. The letter was read aloud in the Iwakura and Yoshizumi's Show, on TV Asahi, on November 14th and 21st, 2023.

There's already a translation of the Q&A by the hunter fandom (please read it), but I want to share my favorite parts and maybe some interesting info that was said during the TV program. You can watch the full version on bilibili. The whole film studio was decorated with Hunter x Hunter manuscripts and figures, and BGM from both versions of the anime was played during the broadcast.

The MCs of the show are two female comedians, Yoshizumi and Iwakura. The guests were Yumiko Seki (former Sakurazaka46); singer Toshiya Miyata (Kis-My-Ft2), a huge Hunter x Hunter fan; and the comedian Shintaro Morimoto (TONTSUKATAN) who read Togashi's letter and served as moderator.

At the beginning of the show, Seki-san revealed she met Togashi in a Sakurazaka46 live concert.

Everyone was shocked to learn she met him face-to-face!

Then, Seki-san showed an autographed shikishi Togashi-sensei gave her when she graduated from Sakurazaka46. (T/N: She announced her graduation on December 13, 2022, and graduated on April 30, 2023 at the Sakurazaka46 3rd TOUR 2023).

Killua: "Graduation is the starting line!!"

It's interesting to add that Killua is Seki's favorite character and orange & white were her penlight colors, also her favorite colors. That's why Togashi drew Killua holding a bouquet of orange and white flowers.

Miyata joked that he will make sure that everyone knows he loves Hunter x Hunter by the time he graduates from Kis-My-Ft2 boy band. Morimoto told him "don't graduate just to get a shikishi" (LOL).

By the way, Miyata loves Kurapika, so I hope Togashi gives him a Kurapika shikishi one day :P

Here's Togashi's huge letter!

Before reading sensei's answers, they anticipated the huge success of the show, and came up with the hashtag #冨樫先生からのお手紙 (letter from Togashi-sensei).

It was a success indeed, trending all over social media.

Then, Morimoto started to read the Q&A.

The second question was about the Hunter x Hunter character setting. Before reading the answer, they showed a Togashi's memo containing a detailed timeline of each character that he uses in order to develop the story without creating any contradictions. There's a timeline of the Chimera Ant Arc, and a table of the princes' entourage, allowing Togashi to distinguish them. He even drew characters that didn't appear.

Miyata left his seat and came closer to the monitor, so he could see the memo better. He's a crazy HxH stan just like us.

This material is actually from Jump Ryu's booklet (2016). You can also watch the Jump Ryu video with subs on YouTube, where Togashi explains better how this character table works.

Here's the part of the answer Togashi talks about Killua's inspirations. I am a huge fan of MDP Psycho!

The author of "Toy-y", Atsushi Kamijo, thanked Togashi on his Twitter. He also wrote that he loves Level-E.

When answering question 4, we found out Togashi-sensei watched Sakurazaka46 New Year's special feature in 2021, when Seki-san asked for the complete set of Hunter × Hunter.

But, because Togashi-sensei is such an introvert, he thought he would make her feel uncomfortable by actually sending it. It took him two years to finally decide to send it.

Miyata laughed so hard, saying: "Togashi-sensei is such an otaku!!" (LOL)

Seki-san confirmed Togashi really sent the Hunter × Hunter set to her ^^

The 5th question was about Togashi's favorite nen ability. Seki-san and Miyata also shared their favorite type of nen.

Seki-san loves Killua, thus she likes transmutation. She also likes Hisoka's analysis about nen, and thinks Killua fits his description about transmuters perfectly.

As for Miyata, he loves Kurapika, therefore he likes the conjurer type. He remembered that in order to conjurer chains, Kurapika had to imagine, touch, draw, and even licked real chains.

He was curious if Goreinu, a character that appears in Greed Island, had to do something similar and touch gorillas in order to be able to materialize them.

Miyata is a crazy HxH fan, he came up with many curious tidbits and did a deep analysis of the series. It's not confirmed in the manga or any databook if Goreinu is really a conjurer, but I really liked his point of view.

Question 7 about Meruem's final moments was really touching. After hearing Miyata's explanation about Meruem and Kogumi, Iwakura almost started crying.

Tears rolled down her cheeks when she saw the double spread of Meruem's final moments.

The funny thing is, at the beginning of the show, she told us she had only read the first chapter.

So, Morimoto joked: "Why did you have to stop at volume 1!!?" XD

Morimoto also revealed that Togashi-sensei's favorite scene is Meruem and Kogumi double spread.

Question 8, what does Togashi do on his days off? Morimoto asked Seki-san's opinion. She imagines Togashi having mandarin oranges on a kotatsu table, and talking to cats on the porch.

T/N: Eating oranges while sitting around a kotatsu table is a japanese tradition during the winter.

Togashi didn't mention anything like that in his answer, but there's an interview with Naoko Takeuchi (WITH magazine, May 2022) where she says, "We have been married for over 20 years. Although we have small fights sometimes, my husband is extremely kind and quiet, like a hermit (...) The house we have lived for 20 years is also a place of healing. Sometimes we have meals or tea in the garden". So, I can totally picture Togashi-sensei eating oranges in the winter and talking to cats.

Togashi-sensei stated he is the type of person who always has sound playing while he is working, just like Yoshizumi-san. She was happy she was acknowledged in his letter!

The question 9 was about manga that Togashi-sensei found interesting recently. Miyata remembered that Togashi had wrote a recommendation on the obi of Kimestu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) volume 4, praising the series. I had completely forgotten Togashi loves Demon Slayer!

In his letter, Togashi-sensei wrote he couldn't give the name of the series he's currently into, since he would get criticized. But he left some clues. Yoshimizu said the crazy amount of ッッッ (small tsu) used in his answer was maybe a keyword, and that the fans would probably figure it out. She had no idea what manga he was talking about, though.

Togashi-sensei also wrote this manga is a true story published in 2023. So, many fans came up with the Autobiography of Keisuke Itagaki (author of Grappler Baki): an autobiographical manga depicting the harsh life experienced by Keisuke Itagaki in the "JGSDF 1st Airborne Brigade" that consumed his youth!

I started reading it, and the author really loves to use "ッッッ" at the end of the sentences. I don't think it's the kind of content I would recommend to an idol like Seki-san. Anyway, I don't know whether that's the correct answer or not, but it seems so.

The manga that Togashi-sensei ended up recommending was "Oi! Tombo". It has been serialized in Weekly Golf Digest since 2014. An anime is also scheduled to premiere in 2024. I was happy to see that the Golf Digest X Account mentioned his letter!

Seki-san was introduced to an unexpected golf manga, but she immediately became interested, saying, "I really want to read it'' and "I want to buy it right away.'' I guess we all felt that way. I'm definitely watching the anime!

The 10th question was about the ending! The reaction of the guests and MCs when Morimoto read there's an Ending D in case Togashi-sensei dies was priceless.

Before Morimoto could read the "Ending D", Miyata recalled he went to watch the Hunter × Hunter movie "Phantom Rouge", and received a copy of Volume 0. He grabbed it, and showed the Q&A with Togashi-sensei, highlighting Question 4: What will end up happening to Kurapika and the Phantom Troupe? A: "They will all die."

He was really looking forward to knowing the ending of Hunter × Hunter, but not this one (LOL). Morimoto and Miyata were too nervous, they took a sip to calm down before reading the "Ending D Pattern".

The final question was about the amount of text in volume 37. Miyata commenting that his answer also had an incredible amount of text made me laugh so hard. It was a huge answer indeed.

Togashi's last words were:

"Words are da best!" (Words rule/Nothing can beat words/Only words wins/ whatever sounds better in english).

Everyone laughed so hard, because this is actually a slang used by young people or fandom to say someone or something is the best. He wrote the letter in polite japanese, it was fun he ended it with a slang. By the way, Togashi-sensei loves slang, specially fandom unique vocabulary, as he usually uses it Hunter x Hunter. He's a fan of Keyakizaka46/Sakurazaka46 after all.

Miyata was excited to hear that Togashi-sensei himself is "bugged", which makes him want to continue reading HxH even more. One thing that caught Miyata's attention during this final question was the part Togashi-sensei mentioned he needs to settle many issues during the voyage of the Black Whale ship. Actually, the word "settlement" (解決) captured the attention of many fans, as they posted a lot about that on social media.

Miyata thought about people on board the ship whose fates needs a resolution. He wondered if this was about Kurapika and The Phantom Troupe since the conditions to what Togashi-sensei said in volume 0 (everyone's gonna die) are right there to happen soon.

He showed his Volume 0 again. LOL, I hope Togashi-sensei was just joking.

Of course, let's not forget that are many other unfinished business that needs a solution in this arc, we have a whole succession to the throne war in motion. But, Miyata was really hyped about Kurapika and volume 0.

The show ended with a big thanks and bow to Togashi-sensei!

Miyata said he has been reading HxH for more than 20 years, since he was in elementary school. No matter how old he is, he still gets excited about it! He loves Hunter × Hunter!

Morimoto asked Seki-san to say some final words to Togashi-sensei. Besides showing all her love for Hunter × Hunter, Seki-san was really cute and asked Togashi-sensei to take really good care of his health!

That's it, sorry for being like Togashi-sensei and writing too much. Although my posts are more about Yu Yu Haksuho, I feel I needed to address his letter too. I didn't take the Ending D too serious, since it was discarded. However, I think it was a cute closing to HxH. Like Miyata-said, everything went back to the beginning, The Whale Island where it all started.

I just want Togashi-sensei to live long and write his favorite ending!

There were other interesting parts, like Seki-san telling Togashi-sensei to make a DVD BOX of the TV show. In the end, everyone wanted to make one ^^ (me too). It is a really precious letter. I hope Seki-san frames it and make an altar :P

it's really fucking unfortunate that "western" as a term is such a poisoned well and always has been. when you use it in otaku media contexts, it almost always means "non-japanese" but that definition has to be internally parsed as "non-asian but influenced by japanese media to the extent where a cultural contrast is worthwhile"

but again, you have to read the audience really hard before saying that because that's not a universally implicit meaning and the most obnoxious guys online love to use it in a very similar-but-distinct way

海外/overseas as a term works fine if you're actually discussing things in japanese, but it gets confusing the second you're not

and it's not worth making a new word because it would immediately get used the exact same way

You two met just by chance, getting paired up against each other, in a game you decided to play, as a game streamer.

You used a typical supporting character, with not much attacking capabilities, meant to be power and hp boost to your teammates, but even then you were making kill after a kill.

Idia couldn't believe it, you managed to kill him, him of all people! with a support character no less.

Someone actually managed to surprise him in a game? Are you serious? That can't be happening. That made him so enraged, focusing all his attention on you, to take his revenge.

After he and his team unexpectedly lose, he starts to look through your account, and sees in your bio your streamer name with a link, such a normie thing to do.

He starts to stalk through your social media, and with a pain in his heart admits, that his defeat was recorded on your actual live, it's nothing he can't take down anyway.

Hm? You're streaming with a camera? Oh, how bold of you, but don't worry, he won't stop hacking your phone camera and microphone even after you beg for it, falling into paranoia.

It's your unlucky day, he took an interest in you, slowly treating you as a character from his beloved games. Your merch on the shelf, his phone littered with your photos and edits, a special spying program made by him personally, to see your activity on your devices.

Soon you're the only one he can think about, you, your voice, your hair, your face and your.. collarbones. Such an exciting sight for this shutted in otaku.

If you're counting for a high donates from your newest follower, Gloomurai, then you hit the jackpot, literally.

Tons of money flowing into your bank account, each one of the descriptions more unnerving than the other, but hey at least you got the money. Yeah, no, you're terrified.

You started to wear blouses for your streams, afraid of more uneasy commenters on your donations, contemplating quitting your side job for good. Your sanity was worth more than some money.

Yet you still felt endangered, so to ease your worries you bought cameras and installed them inside and outside of your home, wrong move.

He, of course easily hacked into it, feeling delighted that you decided to do so, the fact that you liked him enough to make it easier for him to observe you, how thoughtful of you, he's so delusional.

If you like him this much, then he mustn't deny you his presence any longer, he may be afraid of humans, but you're an exception.

When he heard you talk with your friends about quitting, all hell broke loose. The next thing you know, you're in Shroud manor, not allowed to leave.

Yes, the thought of you leaving the media was enough to make him snap and be really daring, doing things he normally would've never done, the effect you have on him is insane. After all he loved your streams very, very much.

Ortho is super supportive of this as a cute sibling he is, after all his older brother finally took an interest in someone real!

You have no idea how relieving it was for him, maybe his brother won't have to be alone? Of course not, you two live together already, should he plan your future with Idia already? Maybe you can date, and later on marry his brother! He's so happy!

Don't you dare disappoint him.

Ugh, after my sickness I lost my enthusiasm and motivation to write even tho I had a lot of ideas😭(it's better since I added Roxana, but still). It's not fair, even more so since I am already way in the back of my Povtober writing challenge.😭😭 Not sure of how this one came out tho, I'm writing this at 3 am💀 I'm not exactly proud of this, I'll probably rewrite it in the distant future (he's so hard to write smh)

Train Man / Densha Otoko (2005) : The Movie

"I am an anime and video game maniac who always wander around Akihabara. I always thought, is it really possible for a guy like me to find love? This is how I met her."

Inspired by a true story of an Otaku that found love on a train in the 90s, during the aftermath of Japan's Lost Decade or economic bubble crisis which leave many graduates unemployed.

A time when hikikomori (social recluse of graduates due to social pressure and broken dreams), and karoshi (death from overwork in order to retain their highly competitive jobs) became prominent.

Before the arrival of social media, there were chatrooms where singles talk about their woes, including the man whose username is "Train Man" as he commutes to work and home daily by trains.

A post went "viral" attracting many online users who find the story fascinating. "Train Man" told the story of how he accidentally save a young woman from being harassed by a drunkard salaryman.

He has been pestering the passengers who are mostly women but none dare to stop him. It wasn't until he harass a woman sitting across the "Train Man" that he summoned to courage to stop him.

Despite being terrified as he never confronted anyone before and do not know whether he is armed, he asked the drunkard to stop which caused them to struggle for a short time before others start to help.

They end up at the police station to clarify what happened as the women stepped forward as witness to save "Train Man". The young woman thanked him and asked for his address to send gifts.

Shocked by the incident, "Train Man" rushed home to share his story with online users of gamer addict, social recluse, neglected housewife, burnout salaryman and divorced nurse.

"Train Man" later received said gift from her: an expensive set of cups made by Hermès. Flabbergasted, that the tea set was too expensive to be a mere thank-you gift, he asked online users for advice.

They began giving grooming and dating tips, like getting a clean haircut (no more long hair), nice clothing (no more jeans and anime t-shirts), scouting for dining places (no more cheap ramen shops).

Feeling encouraged and thankful, "Train Man" consistently post updates on his daily situation asking for advice from the enthusiastic and chaotic users who find his new life development interesting.

They push him out of his comfort zone and wish for him to succeed as they hope he will be their inspiration to change their respective lives to find their own happiness too. If he can make it, so can they.

The story starts to get funny, wholesome and heartbreaking, as "Train Man" discovers the joys and hardships of relationships and his first taste of love as he learns that it's not as easy as he thought.

It's a good movie worth watching, about how hard it is for someone with social anxieties struggles to be "normal" like everyone else to find love and happiness, while overcoming his fears and insecurities.

Another thing that arrived in the mail while I was away was my copy of the first Futari wa SxS volume. I keep vague track of magazines like Ciao and when I saw Kumaki Eri launch this series last year I knew I'd have to invest in the print edition when it was released.

If you're not already familiar with the series, Futari wa SxS (which is short for Futari wa Super Secret, the English language title on the back cover being We are Super-Secret) is an original magical girl series by Kumaki Eri with a hint of sci-fi.

Although the title and the character designs immediately call to mind the OG Futari wa Precure, I'd liken the actual work more to something like Akimoto Nami's 90s classic, Miracle☆Girls.

Asai Reo and Yoruno Michiru aren't exactly twins like Mikage & Tomomi from Akimoto's work, but they were born on the exact same day, at the exact same time, in the exact same hospital.

Due to this connection, Reo & Michiru can unlock psy abilities like telekinesis when they hold hands. This is a "super secret" between the two of them until they save a bullied kid's school bag using their abilities and put this secret at serious risk. Enter a boy named Takarada who threatens to put a wedge between these oddly matched childhood friends!

This is a total kids comic and that's awesome? I can think of several young family members who would love to give this a read! The focus in Futari wa SxS is the friendship between Reo and Michiru above all else, which is great to see. Reo is athletic and happy-go-lucky while Michiru is a glamorous on the surface but actually a die-hard otaku at heart. Although Michiru can get frustrated with Reo's desire to jump in and use their powers to help people, ultimately she can't say no to her energetic BFF.

In another move that reminds me of Miracle☆Girls, our heroines here may have psy talents but they don't have any magical ability to transform (unless you count cosplay). There's no magical compact or toy to sell to kids here (which isn't great from a marketing perspective), these girls just hold hands and use their powers.

That's another thing I quite like, it's well defined from the first chapter that although Reo & Michiru have some pretty cool powers, they do need to touch their hands together to unlock them. This means we're shown a firm limit to their talents from the get-go so (at this point anyway) nobody is powering up every chapter or maxxing out their abilities. I like that and while it does lean towards the SF side of things more than the magical power-wise, I think that the tropes at play overall tend towards Futari wa SxS being a magical girl title at heart.

Kumaki's artwork is quite playful and childish with firm clear lines, big eyes, and lots of chibis for conveying comedy. I think it works nicely for a kid's comic, but it might not be for everyone. While Kumaki's previous series have overwhelmingly been romances, the fantasy at play in Futari wa SxS is primarily based on the close friendship between the leads. The whole "Wouldn't it be amazing to have a best friend you could do anything with? Even if you and the friend were polar opposites?" (although with all the hand-holding you're welcome to read more into Reo & Michiru's relationship too I imagine).

Takarada throws a spanner into the works here with his interest in Reo and his online success threatening to expose the girls, so it will be curious to see where his part of the story goes. Right now it seems as if the heroines have an unbreakable bond so good luck with winning anyone's heart, bro (though this is shoujo manga so I don't doubt romance will factor in eventually).

Overall a cute little series, nothing too serious or ground-breaking but it's rare to have magical girl series that aren't part of a media mix or an adaptation of an existing property so in that sense Futari wa SxS is a welcome change. I get the feeling it won't run too long or shake the foundations of the genre, but I'd love to be wrong about that. There really aren't many original magical girl titles these days and this one is perfect for youngsters who also enjoy things like Precure or PriPara (and have never read Miracle☆Girls because lol they're v e r y similar).

Edit: Presently this series is not available in English. The first Japanese volume was released on March 29th 2023 and it is currently ongoing in Ciao magazine.

• You're an Otaku (even if only small) and be is an Otaku (massive). Honestly, everyone coukd see this coming from a mile away. While you may not be as huge into it as he is, he still enough being able to share these interests with you, because he knows you listen to him and enjoy hearing him speak. He still questions your sanity about that one. Poor boy still thinks he's a yucky Otaku, undeserving of the perception that is you. Seven, please help this man.

• I can see him having a bit of a darker sense of humor. It all comes as a part of who he is as a person. He's not always all shy and awkward. Come on, this man was twisted from Hades and we ALL saw how Hades was. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if this flame haired man had himself a Hades personality streak and let it all run wild. Then the both of you bounce off of each other and it really gets going. It's rather quite fun.

• We all know this, it has been stated so many times before, you initiated this relationship, he honestly didn't know he had racked up that many affection points to unlock the neck level and open up more chapters. You've begun the dating stage, and you've also initiated more physical touch and maybe a few dates here and there. The boy is still a blushing mess when you so much as lean your head on his shoulder. You also love to remind him that he fainted during the first kiss. It was rather amusing (Ortho has it all on video, much to Idia's dismay, and no, he will not delete it.)

• Sweet, baby Ortho absolutely loves his new big sister. When he is not with his brother, running errands or with any of the other students, he is with you. He's just so happy happy his brother has finally found someone for himself.

• Poor sleep rhythm buddies! (As I literally type this at 11 at night xD) Idia's sleep schedule is so screwed up that it's too the point of nonexistant that this point. Ortho had tried endlessly to get his brother on a better sleeping habit, this is when he brings you into the picture! Maybe he just needed himself a buddy? Thus begins the first official sleep over.

• It had been quite a few nights since either of you have either really slept or even got in a couple hours here and there. Along games or favorite murderous robot bo with you in tow. He IA going to get the both of youbto sleep even if he has to hit both of you up with with the hard-core melatonin gummies. When you both first lay down in his bed, Idia is stiff ad a board (save his posture while you're at it), and he doesn't move. He doesn't know where to put his hands. His hair is burning pink and his face is a blushing mess. Several minutes last before you're slowly wrapped around him, legs tangles, arms around his waist, and head on his chest, hearing the soinf of his heartbeat. Bith of you were out in less than ten minutes and had the best nights rest in years.

• He may not be the biggest into politics, but he at least knows what's going on in the world around him. Both from thr media and what js expected of him to know with his soon to be position on his dreaded home island. We don't talk about his family for a variety of reasons. He doesn't mind people arguing, just so long as it is not directed at him, he is tially fine.

• Overall, the both of you vibe so well, it can be rather scary at times. Especially if he is one of his more confident moods. Face it, we all love this skrunkly man.

Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei S2 - It's fascinating how this series that is jam-packed with references to a whole range of Japanese media and culture still manages to be consistently hilarious to an American watching it and missing half the jokes. As much as it is rooted in a specific cultural context, the absurd characters and situations come through just fine in translation. The unique visuals that mix several different animation and art styles only add to the experience, making this a lot of fun to watch. 8/10

Lucky Star - This 2000s comedy about a handful of high school girls definitely had its moments, but for the most part it failed to hold my attention. The main trio consists of a girl who loves anime, manga, and bishoujo games, a serious twin who's good at schoolwork, and a younger twin who's kind of an airhead, and the show follows them through a series of short, disconnected skits about their daily lives. The lack of scene transitions between skits that would take place in completely different times and places was confusing at times, as it was hard to tell when a scene ended and a new one began. Additionally, a lot of the skits just weren't very funny, especially the bits about the otaku girl's borderline pedo father being a creeper, like it's all some light mischief to perv on young girls. I'm glad I watched it, since it's often referenced and it was done by Kyoto Animation, but I can't quite call it good. 6/10

Dear Brother, Ep.21-39 - The second half of this classic shoujo was packed to the brim with drama. There were slashings, suicide attempts, family problems, questionable romantic relationships, a tragic death, and a student referendum. A lot of it was engaging to watch and revealed a lot about the characters, but a good chunk of it ran up against a few of my pet peeves, and was not super fun to sit through. In particular, there is nothing I dislike more than a disabled or chronically ill character who pushes their loved ones away because they do not want to be a burden. One of the characters does this as part of the final arc, and I just resent the idea that relying on others or needing to be cared for is bothersome and is something a sympathetic character should nobly deny themselves. I also was surprised at how involved the titular brother ended up being. That guy knew everyone. 7/10

Media Reflection: Tokyo->Persona 5

As I mentioned in my June 8 post, on my second free day I went around Tokyo and visited locations that were recreated in Persona 5, one of my favorite video games. The game’s artists were able to capture many famous spots around the city, and frankly it was a very exciting experience getting to see the places that I know and love from the game as they are in the real world. As described in my former post, the places I visited in Tokyo for this excursion were Akihabara, Kanda, Aiyana-Itchome and Shibuya (although I did visit more these are the ones which I have comparisons from the game).

Reflection:

Throughout Persona 5, the general atmosphere that is created in this fictional Tokyo is one full of life with colorful signs, streets filled with people, and lively music to illustrate how much energy there is throughout the city, and to boot, the city is also portrayed as incredibly clean. As a general rule this is exactly how Tokyo felt as I walked through the streets, and I cannot even tell you how many times I gave props to the creators of Persona who did such a good job recreating the atmosphere. I will now go through all of the locations I went to and describe how each one of them was recreated with pictures to help describe what I mean.

Akihabara:

In real life Akihabara was classically known as the tech center of Tokyo, but recently, it has mostly become the center of Otaku culture rather than tech although tech stores do still have their place there. Here, maid cafes and anime girls are everywhere the eye can see. Compared to the other locations on that are coming up on this post, I actually think this was one of the least similar. Although yes there are nods to the fact this is a place for otaku things, it definitely is mostly shown as a tech place (at least at first which is all I have seen in game). While this isn’t necessarily inaccurate, it definitely is a slight difference from the real world. However, the atmosphere created in the game is very accurate with all of the people constantly pushing through the street and the colorful signs shown everywhere. Also, I’m pretty sure there is in fact a maid cafe in game in Akihabara so I suppose that is accurate as well.

Kanda:

Although in game it’s just a church, I would like to point out how well they recreated the vibe of this place of worship. Although much of the game has a very excited atmosphere, this place is one of the most relaxed places in game. This is exactly how I felt as I entered the church from the street and instantly experienced a shift from very high to very low energy (almost like walking into a library after walking through Disney world on a crowed day).

Aoyama-Itchome:

This place was one that I was particularly impressed with. Although the pictures look a bit different, they actually recreated the high school Shujin Academy from this part of the city and made it the one of the most important locations in game. I didn’t take a picture of the school itself out of respect for the students, but the idea that the same street can be found in-game despite it being a very random location otherwise is mind-boggling. Here they recreated the bustle of highschoolers and salarymen walking around quite well. I feel like this place in-game gives a good snapshot of what the commute of a lot of students and salarymen looks like in Tokyo.

Shibuya:

Alright, I know I keep talking about energy, but let me tell you, the energy the game portrays in Shibuya is by far the greatest. Shibuya in-game does a great job showing how it feels to be a shopper in Tokyo. The streets are absolutely packed with people, there are workers everywhere trying to sell you things, and there are so many things to do there that it’s easy to lose track of your plans. To say that Shibuya is full of life in the real world is an understatement, and the creators of Persona 5 captured this perfectly.

Final thoughts:

It’s hard to describe, but the subtle differences that can be found in the different places throughout Tokyo are what make the city so special. Each section of the city has its own quirks and is worth a visit on its own merits. It is this accurate portrayal of these subtle differences in Persona 5 that it made me so excited as I walked through Tokyo my first couple days. I feel like the whole game was so good at portraying the city that is almost like a commercial of sorts. Honestly, if I ever start missing Tokyo in the future, I’m probably going to find myself walking through the game trying to see if I can spot any places I’ve been in the real world.

If you ever play Persona 5 and like what you see in game definitely give Tokyo a visit.
