coffee — the enemies to lovers social media au where min yoongi refuses to date a cheerleader, but yoon haryun might be able to change that.

Yoongi had the mindset of punctuality once he texted Haryun. The clock ticked around to a quarter till one when he decided to head over to Toasty Beans to meet Haryun.

At the time that he was leaving the apartment, Namjoon was returning from his Philosophy class and gave Yoongi a surprised look when he noticed the older guy dressed in attire other than his pajamas, preparing to leave the apartment.

“You going somewhere, hyung,” Namjoon asked as he toed off his shoes by the door.

Everyone knew that unless Yoongi had a mandatory class or basketball practice he’d rather hole himself inside of his room to work on music, and since Namjoon knew Yoongi’s schedule by heart at that point, he was well aware that Yoongi didn’t have anywhere to be at one in the afternoon on a Thursday.

Yoongi bent over to reach for his own shoes, purposely ignoring the way Namjoon tried to catch his gaze. “Just to get some coffee.”

“At one in the afternoon?”

Yoongi hummed as he tied up his black Vans.

A silence echoed for a mere second before Yoongi could hear Namjoon smile and inhale a laugh,”This is for Haryun, isn’t it?”

“None of your business,” Yoongi patted both of his sweatpant pockets to check for his phone and his wallet, which he had both. “I’ll be back soon.”

Just as Yoongi stepped out into the hallway from their apartment, Namjoon shouted,”Please don’t return with any more hickeys on your face!”

“Why don’t you just shut up,” Yoongi retorted with no real conviction in his voice as he reached the elevators and pressed the down button.

The reminder of the large, purple bruise (notice the word bruise, not hickey) caused Yoongi to pull the hood of his sweatshirt over his head, being sure to tighten the strings around it to secure it in place and keep the bruise out of sight.

Once the rumor account on Twitter had posted about the hickey-no, bruise-on his face, Yoongi’s phone had been flooded with direct messages and text messages from his friends and a few girls he had hooked up with in the past. His friends were either making crude jokes or congratulating him on donning a sort of trophy from his “wild night” with whoever gave him the hickey; while the girls from his past hookups ranted about how unfair it was that they hadn’t been able to leave any marks on him. Yoongi found those texts quite funny because he never explicitly told these people to not mark him up, but he never was one for hickeys and such after a one-night stand.

Besides, this was not a hickey or a sign of a “wild night” with someone. Instead it was a bite mark from a wild Haryun, who for some reason didn’t know how to properly bite someone and instead would leave her victims with blooming red hickies in her wake.

Now everyone on campus thinks Yoongi has some clingy mistress or whatever, while only himself, his friends, and Haryun knew the truth. And for some reason it made Yoongi feel mysterious.

By the time Haryun had texted Yoongi back, he had already reached the coffee shop and perched himself on the barstool at the seating area by the window. From his spot, he would be able to see when Haryun approached the coffee shop, from whichever direction she would appear from.

The time read three minutes past one, and immediately Yoongi knew Haryun was someone who was terrible with time. As he waited, Yoongi people watched--noticing one woman with a baby strapped to her chest as she strolled down the sidewalk. Another man was walking down the sidewalk with his dog on a leash in one hand and a bag of takeout in the other.

Yoongi could go for a good takeout meal for dinner, maybe he should start thinking about what he had a taste for.

But just as he unlocked his phone, it buzzed with another text message from Haryun.

[ 1:13 ] now im in the elevator

[ 1:15 ] it was a long elevator ride but now im in the lobby

[ 1:16 ] now im on the street walking

[ 1:18 ] just passed the phone store, i think i should get another phone case

[ 1:19 ] that really good hot dog place was giving out free samples, so i got one. none for you though :/

[ 1:23 ] there was this man with a dog, i pet it a lot

[ 1:23 ] maybe i should get a dog

[ 1:24 ] oh my gosh there was a lady with a baby, the baby smiled at me so i had to wave and then the baby waved back. i’m going to go talk to the baby

[ 1:26 ] the baby’s name is sohye

[ 1:28 ] sohye just blew me a kiss

[ 1:29 ] aw i love babies

[ 1:31 ] okay i said bye to sohye

[ 1:33 ] im outside the coffee shop

[ 1:33 ] i see you

Yoongi watched as the text messages came through to his phone, intrigued by how easily Haryun got distracted. He watched her excitedly walk into the coffee shop before she bounced over to Yoongi with a bright smile on her face.

“Hey,” She quickly spoke, stopping herself in her tracks before she slammed into Yoongi’s side. “You look all depressed just gazing out the window with sorrow in your eyes.”

“That,” Yoongi locked his phone and slid it into his sweatshirt pocket. “Is not what I was doing, at all.”

Haryun let out a noise of disbelief.

“Oh, by the way. You lose focus very often and ridiculously easy,” Yoongi stood from the stool and made his way over to the line, which was nonexistent when he first arrived at the coffee shop, but now, thirty minutes later, there were quite a few people waiting to have their orders taken.

Haryun wordlessly followed behind him, allowing him to continue speaking. “And you were also thirty minutes late, Haryun-ah.”

“My bad,” Haryun blushed with embarrassment. “Moonhee had me locked in a cuddle sesh.”

“You texted me at two minutes past one saying you were getting ready.”

They moved forward a step in line.

“And that was true,” Haryun nodded.

“It took you thirty minutes to get here.”

“I had an eventful journey.”

Yoongi hummed, unimpressed. “How so?”

“Did you not read my texts?”

“I did-”

The two of them moved up another step, only three more customers between them and the barista taking orders behind the counter.

“Do I have a budget today, Yoongi?” Haryun asked as her eyes scanned the menu.

“A budget,” He repeated slowly as if to compute what exactly Haryun just asked him. “For coffee?”

“Well, I’m not quite sure how your bank account is set up so I don’t want to order something too expensive.”

Yoongi chuckled at how serious Haryun seemed when she spoke. “How broke do you think I am?”

“Well-”

“The most expensive thing on the menu is 11,000 won.”

Haryun paused, scanning her eyes up and down Yoongi’s body with judgment in her eyes. “And do you have eleve-”

“If you want me to buy you anything at all you won’t finish that question,” Yoongi deadpanned, staring at the menu quizzically as he attempted to figure out his own order. “Every time I speak to you my eye twitches in annoyance.”

“Maybe you should see a doctor,” Haryun said. “That doesn’t sound healthy.”

“Or maybe you just shouldn’t talk to me at all,” Yoongi retorted instantly, stepping up to the counter as the person in front of them completed their order.

“Hi, my name is Gaeul, may I have a name for your order?” The barista behind the counter asked, her eyes glued to the register.

“Yoongi.”

Gaeul’s head snapped up at his name, Haryun giggling at how fast her head moved and the stars that erupted in the girl’s eyes.

“Hi,” Gaeul muttered.

Yoongi politely smiled. “Hi, Haryun what are you getting?”

“Well,” A sigh left Haryun’s mouth that gave Yoongi the idea that she was about to make things difficult and he mentally prepared himself to apologize profusely to Gaeul for her actions. “What’s the most expensive thing on the menu, Gaeul-ssi?”

“Uh,” Gaeul’s cheeks burned red. “It depends on what size drink you get and if you add things into the already prepared menu.”

“So if I got a large caramel macchiato, iced with extra caramel pumps?”

Gaeul paused to punch the order into the register. “Uhm, 9,500 won.”

Haryun turned to face Yoongi, a look of shock and contemplation on her face which Yoongi returned with his own look of disdain and a whole lot of displeasure.

“What do you think, Yoongi-ah?”

Yoongi leveled Haryun with a heavy gaze, her taking it as a signal to hurry up and stop playing around.

“That’s it for me, Gaeul-ssi,” Haryun turned to step over to the pick-up area, opting to make distance between herself and Yoongi before she pushed a little too far.

Yoongi apologized to Gaeul before he told her his order, paid the amount due, and stepped off to the side to join Haryun.

“You didn’t have to be so mean, Yoongi-ah,” Haryun began once she felt Yoongi step beside her. She was preoccupied with her phone, seemingly playing a game as she tapped the screen aggressively and sighed disappointedly. “It kind of hurt my feelings.”

“How was I mean,” Yoongi stared at the side of Haryun’s face, taking note of the way her eyes squinted as she focused on her phone screen. “I didn't do anything wrong.”

Haryun didn’t reply, too wrapped up in the game she was playing and Yoongi didn’t mind, he wasn’t in the proper mood to argue with Haryun and win, so if he could avoid an argument altogether then that was what he hoped for. But Haryun seemed like she wanted to continue the conversation as she locked her phone and looked up at Yoongi.

“You gave me a mean look.”

“What look?”

“The one you’re giving me right now,” Haryun pointed her finger right in the middle of Yoongi’s face, gesturing to his expression. “And why is your hood on your head like that, you look dumb.”

Yoongi rolled his eyes. “Geez, and you say I’m being mean.”

The two of them stared at one another for a moment, Yoongi watching as Haryun fell into deep concentration and he knew exactly what she was thinking. As she raised her arms to grasp the strings to his hoodie, Yoongi grabbed her wrists and halted her movement.

“Nuh uh,” He hummed. “Don’t.”

“Why not,” she whined, stomping her right foot as she did so. “Are you cold or somethin’?”

Haryun tried to grab his hoodie strings again and this time Yoongi yanked her arms down to her sides. “Haryun-ah, stop it.”

“Y’know, I never said you could call me Haryun-ah,” She teased. “What if I’m your noona?”

“You aren’t.”

“What year are you?”

“1993.”

“Shit,” Haryun cursed. “I’m ‘94. You’re old, Yoongi-yah.”

That statement made Yoongi chuckle, genuinely. “Shut up.”

“Medium Iced Americano for Ji Hajoon!”

Haryun twisted her wrists to get Yoongi to release his grip on her and stood still for a moment. Yoongi kept himself guarded in case she attempted to remove his hood again, but after a few minutes he relaxed, noticing that Haryun turned her attention elsewhere for the moment.

But just as Yoongi reached into his pocket to occupy himself with his phone until their order was called, Haryun snuck her hand up to the back of his head, grabbed the fabric of his hood and yanked. It left his neck at an awkward angle, but Yoongi was more pissed about Haryun not listening to him than anything else.

“Oh my gosh, Yoon-“ Haryun gasped as she caught sight of what the hood was actually hiding.

“What did I tell you?” Yoongi muttered, not finding the energy in himself to yell at Haryun about her yanking off his hood.

Her eyes remained wide and they glistened with concern as she eyed the bruise on his left cheek, dark and purple like it had been for the last two days.

“Oh, Yoongi-yah, I’m so sorry,” There was an air of sincerity in her voice as she stepped closer and examined the aftermath of her assault closely. She cupped his right cheek softly with her hand, using the leverage to tilt his face in a new angle to examine everything closer. “You should put ice on it.”

“It’s fine.” Yoongi muttered. “Your hands are cold.”

“Sorry,” She dropped her hand quickly, but her eyes never left the bruise. “It doesn’t even look like a hickey.”

Yoongi stayed silent.

“Okay, well maybe it does a little bit,” As Haryun spoke, Yoongi noticed a few people peeking over at him and the side of his face.

That didn’t surprise him seeing as most of the campus followed the SNU Updates account and no doubt they saw the post about the hickey on his face. But that was different than having people actually stare at him and it, and Haryun was practically trying to medicate him in public like she wasn’t the one who did it.

But no one needed to know that.

“Stop looking at it,” Yoongi hissed at Haryun, grabbing her shoulders to turn her away from him. “You’re drawing attention.”

“Well, it’s kind of hard to miss,” She said with her back facing him. “It’s so big and purple. You should name it.”

Yoongi scrunched up his face, his nose curling cutely. “What? No. You name it since you did this to me.”

“Aw really,” Haryun’s voice raised a bit, genuine excitement in her voice. “I think I like the name Farrah.”

“No.”

“Well, why not?”

“It’s ugly.”

Haryun gasped dramatically, her hand flying up to her chest to emphasize the amount of hurt she sarcastically felt. “Take that back!”

“Uh, no.”

“Yoongi,” She spoke, quite loudly, as she whipped around to face him again. “I was going to name my first child Farrah.”

“I thought you were supposed to name your child something that won’t get them bullied?”

“Oh, I’m going to cast-“

“Large Iced Caramel Macchiato with two Caramel Pumps and a Chai Tea for Yoongi!”

Yoongi walked up to the counter before Haryun could dish out her threat, the young barista handing Yoongi his drinks. Haryun quickly followed behind him, snatching her drink from his hand as she said, “I birthed that hickey on your face so I’m naming it!”

“You birthed nothing, Yun-ah, let’s go.”

“Yoongi, that hickey is named Farrah.”

“It has no name, you poor child, now let’s go.”

Yoongi made his way towards the door, watching as Haryun said something to the barista before she followed him out the door and onto the sidewalk.

“Bada agreed with me that Farrah was a cute name,” Haryun said smugly as she stuck her tongue out.

“Who’s Bada?”

“The barista.”

In an attempt to end the conversation there, Yoongi hummed like he finally agreed, but he couldn’t care less about the name for the unwanted bruise on his face. Haryun could think she named it Farrah but it would truly have no name.

“Well,” Yoongi took a sip of his tea. “That concludes day one I guess.”

“What are we about to do now?”

“We,” Yoongi gestured to himself then Haryun. “Aren’t about to do anything. I’m going back to my apartment and I can care less about what you do.”

Haryun pouted at that. “But Yoongi, we’re supposed to bond so I can forgive you.”

“We never agreed on that.”

“It was in the fine print.”

“There is no fine print in text messages,” Yoongi retorted. “I wanna go back to my apartment.”

“Then take me with you,” Haryun smiled, and Yoongi almost considered it, almost.

“No, thank you.”

“How about we just go to the pond over in the courtyard, sit and chat for a bit,” Haryun offered. “You can even read me the rough draft of your apology. Like a peer review before your final grade.”

“I’m getting graded on my apology,” Yoongi asked with a slight chuckle.

“Hell yeah, baby,” Haryun said as she finished taking a sip of her coffee. “Oh, shit, this is good. C’mon, it’ll be fun!”

Yoongi paused for a second, watching Haryun bounce excitedly on her feet as she waited for his answer. He could either go lock himself in his room to attempt to finish a beat he started two weeks ago or he could sit at a pond with Haryun and possibly be annoyed for the next thirty minutes.

While normally, his answer would clearly be music, hanging out with Haryun seemed promising. And for some reason he couldn’t say no to those big brown eyes that were pleading for him to agree.

“Fine,” He let out a big sigh and Haryun squealed. “I guess we can go sit around a mass of water for no reason at all for a while.”

“Not for no reason,” Haryun all but shouted as she excitedly grabbed his hand and pulled him in the direction of the campus courtyard. “It’s to revise your apology, Gi-Gi Bear!”

“Oh, no, that is not going to be a thing.”

“I think it’s cute,” Haryun mischievously giggled. “Gi-Gi Bear.”

004. what do you enjoy about making graphics / gifs? answered here :)

010. what graphics / gif trends do you dislike most? just a personal aesthetic thing, i'm not big on the super oversaturated highlighter color posts. like, taking a natural woodsy scene and making the whole gif neon pink/etc. that doesn't mean it's bad! that's REALLY hard to do and to make pretty, and there are some v talented people out there who can make it look good (i couldn't even if i tried), but it's just not my taste

030. biggest errors you’ve made in graphic / gif making (with or without realizing)? i mean, there's obviously been the occasional misspelling. annoyingly in this 911 parallel gifset i forgot to include the word "not" in the first gif of ali (so it read "i'm just sure if..." instead of "i'm just not sure if...") and i didn't notice until several hours it had already been on the site being reblogged. i edited the post—but you can see by that point i'd already deleted the .psd so i had to just save the gif and edit new text overtop, so it looks weirdly bold

ALSO when 5.08 defend in place aired i was trying to post too fast and i originally posted this gifset of buck and eddie rescuing the babies with the gifs out of order. so it had buck handing the baby to eddie before buck actually picked up the baby...again, i fixed it as soon as i noticed, but it had already been reblogged enough that i still sometimes see the original out-of-order version being reblogged in my activity page

Yamamoto Takeshi was the ace of Namimori high school’s baseball team. He was dependable, always able to save the team no matter what kind of pinch they found themselves in. He was extroverted and cheerful, kind enough to give the shirt off of his back if someone needed it. By all accounts, he was an amazing person and an even more amazing friend.

So why did you feel such envy when you looked at him? It hadn’t been like that when you first met. You were good friends, enjoying each other’s company and bonding over your love of baseball. As the years wore on, though, you started to distance yourself from him.

You trained your ass off, dedicating every free moment to getting stronger and fixing the weaknesses you had. You trained well into the night and woke up before the sun rose to train some more. Even during lunch break you trained, trying to get better at pitching. Yamamoto rarely trained, often running off with his friends to do god knows what.

In a way, this benefitted you because it kept your boyfriend, Tsuna, busy. You often felt guilty for not spending more time with him, but you were so focused on getting off the bench and on to the field that you often neglected him. At least if he was off with Yamamoto and the others, he wouldn’t be upset that you weren’t with him.

With the interhigh tournament right around the corner, you were desperate to not be on the bench for the third year in a row. You wanted to feel confident in yourself and you even kept reminding yourself that Yamamoto hasn’t been training, but you just couldn’t gather up any confidence. You wanted this more than anything, but a small part of you was sure it wouldn’t happen.

As it turned out, you were right.

Captain Natsuo scanned the group of players standing before him, his hands on his hips. The coach stood beside him, holding a clipboard in her arms. “I want all of you to know that you’ve done well and we have noticed all of your efforts. If you don’t make the official roster this year, don’t be disheartened! As a team, we must work together, whether you are on the bench or on the field.”

“Yes, sir!”

Blood was pumping loudly in your ears as you watched the coach hand him a slip of paper. He started listing off names, pausing for them to cheer and high-five their other teammates. Your heart seemed to drop a little more with each name until, finally, there was one spot left. You glanced to your right, finding Yamamoto standing a couple of places down, a cheerful grin on his face.

He noticed your look and sent you a kind, closed-eye smile along with a little wave. How could he be so damn cheerful when there was only one spot left on the main team? Was he so confident that he’d be chosen that he had no worry? Meanwhile, you felt like you were going to barf on the captain’s shoes, your stomach twisting and turning as if you had eaten something rotten.

The captain’s lips parted. “Yamamoto Takeshi.”

The team cheered and clapped him on the back. “We’re definitely gonna win with you on the team!”

“For sure, you’re a total powerhouse.”

“Glad to have you, Yamamoto!”

“We’re going to nationals!”

You clamped your lower lip tightly between your teeth, tasting blood on your tongue. Tears stung at your eyes but you held them back, head lowered as you turned and walked away along with the rest of those that hadn’t been good enough. But that was you – Y/N, second best to Yamamoto. No matter what you did, you just weren’t good enough to beat him.

It wasn’t fair.

“Hey, Y/N! Wait up!”

Your shoulders tensed at the familiar voice and you clutched your bag tighter, picking up your pace as you walked down the street. Yamamoto was taller, though, with long legs that covered the distance with ease. A hand gripped your shoulder, stopping you in your tracks.

“Where’s the fire?” he joked, giving you a bright grin. “Are you hungry? It’s been a while since you stopped by. My oyagi will be happy to see you!”

“No thanks, I’m not hungry,” you responded shortly before turning and continuing on your way. He didn’t take the hint, walking at your side.

“You missed practice today. Nejima ended up taking a ball to the back of the head from one of the first-years, he was so angry!” Yamamoto laughed. “Are you excited for the interhigh? We have a really solid team this year.”

Your jaw clenched and you picked up your pace, trying to put some distance between the two of you.

“You’re training even on the way home? You’re super dedicated, Y/N!”

“No, I’m not,” you snapped, whirling around to face him with your fists clenched. “I am not training. I am not looking forward to the interhigh. And I am no longer on the team!”

His eyes widened, finally realizing that something was clearly bothering you. “Y/N, what’s wro -”

“Nothing!” You snapped again, turning on your heel and taking off down the street. You just wanted to be away from him. You knew you were being a bad friend by letting your jealousy get in the way, but you didn’t care. How could you when you saw your dreams taken from you by him? All you wanted was to go to the nationals, it had been what you were training so hard for and this year was your last shot, but they had chosen him over you. They always did.

You felt a tap on your shoulder and you paused the anime you were watching, tugging your headphones down to rest against the back of your neck. You had been so engrossed in the show that you hadn’t realized anyone was knocking on your bedroom door. Tsuna’s warm brown eyes met yours, filled with worry.

“Hey, Tsu. What are you doing here?” you smiled at him softly.

“I wanted to check on you,” his hand lifted to your cheek, brushing his thumb across your skin. “Is everything alright?”

“Yes,” you chuckled, turning your eyes back to the screen. “Why wouldn’t it be?”

“Yamamoto told me about what happened. He said you won’t answer his calls or texts.”

Your smile faltered for a second but he noticed it. He always did.

“Hun, tell me what’s happened. Did you really quit the team?”

“Yeah, so what,” you scowled, crossing your arms across your chest and looking away from him. “Am I not allowed to or something?”

Tsuna frowned, sliding his hand down to the side of your neck. “You are, but I know how much you love playing baseball. Surely there has to be a reason for you to suddenly quit.”

You said nothing, glaring at the screen of your laptop as if it were the source of your frustrations.

“Please talk to me, Y/N. I can’t help you if you don’t.”

You scoffed, pushing him away as you stood up. “You can’t just fix everything, Tsuna! Sometimes things can’t be fixed.”

“That doesn’t mean I can’t try,” he stated calmly, giving you a smile when you snapped your eyes to his. “I love you, Y/N, and even if it’s impossible to fix, that doesn’t mean I won’t try my hardest to do so.”

Tears stung at your eyes and you quickly lowered your head, shoulders shaking. You had been bottling up these negative emotions for so long, it felt like you were drowning in them. Warm arms wrapped around your body, Tsuna’s lips pressing gently kisses to your temple as he whispered comforting words into your ear.

“Why…” you cried, clutching at his shirt. “Why am I not good enough, Tsu?”

His heart felt like it was breaking at the pain in your voice, his arms instinctively tightening around you. “You are good enough. Why would you ever think you weren’t?”

“Because! No matter how hard I try I… I’m not good enough to beat Yamamoto! I trained so – so hard and he didn’t train at all! But he… he still got a spot. I wasn’t even – even considered…”

Realization clicked within his mind as he pieced it together. “Oh, hun. You are an amazing player and you’ve worked so hard to become even stronger. You should never compare yourself to others, it’s not a healthy way to grow. There will always be someone stronger, someone better, but that doesn’t make your efforts any less important.”

“It just… seems so pointless,” you muttered, burying your face into his neck as you clutched at his waist for dear life. “I just wanted to be useful to the team, to help us get to nationals! This was my last chance…”

“I’m so sorry, Y/N…” As badly as he wanted to tell you that it wasn’t too late, he simply couldn’t do so. Next year, you would graduate high school and move on to college, focusing on your studies. And unless someone on the team got injured, you wouldn’t be able to play even if you had stayed on the team.

“So am I…”

Okay so "short" info before this is getting real:

Who am I?

Hi, my name is Kripi (or Nobody, but that's more of an alter ego who takes care of all the poetry inside my head) and I'm a writer, wanna-be artist and gamer.

I can be pretty edgy and am sure that some people could get offended by this blog but that's just how it be sometimes 030

What is this blog going to be?

I haven't planned a lot yet, but what I'm mainly focusing on right now are two formats.

The first of which is going to be called "Scribbles" and features everything my bored ass is coming up with during class. So brace yourselves!

The second one is probably just gonna be called "Poems" and yeah. I'm gonna post poems that I have written. Some of them have arisen because of homework so I'll give you the needed context when the time is right.

Other than that maybe drawings but Idk about that one yet.

Also always open for questions or maybe even submissions of peom ideas or just friendly chatting :3

The DM-bloodlust rush triggered when you oneshot the Creative Director of Dungeons and Dragons must be incalculable. What a power move. Here Chris Perkins, take this CR nothin’ monster, hope you brought your luckiest death save dice. Better get to creatively directing your own funeral!

I kid of course, everything went down in a most cordial and well meaning manner. It’s unfortunate CR is taking a week off. I know exactly how I’ll be spending my free time though, refining my Scorpion on a Stick Hexblade build. But that can wait, for now, let’s look at the full list of minis in this episode.

The Characters

Pending confirmation, I believe this is Steamforged based on the base. It’s definitely not an official blink dog, it’s far too adorable. Traditional blink dogs look more like zerglings than puppers. Tough to comment on this figure due to the distance from the camera. He was on screen for just a moment, blink and you would have missed it.

The Monsters

Ropers Rage of Demons #028 Roper

The easiest way to remember the difference between stalactites and stalagmites is this: Stalactites are on the ceiling because they hang stalactight to the top of a cave and stalagmites are on the ground because they stalagmight come to life and eat you!

There are quite a few prepainted roper minis. Three D&D brand figures and one Pathfinder equivalent called the Zavackuul. They are all solid miniatures with their own virtues. The best aspects of Rage of Demons #028 Roper are its scale and functionality. It is the largest roper miniature and the one with the most pronounced and usable arms.

Great for hanging PC figures, as seen above. Pretty rad roper with a pretty unsettling appearance. An excellent choice for this underground encounter.

Fire Giants Storm King's Thunder #032a Fire Giant (Hammer) (U) and Monster Menagerie 3 #030 Fire Giant Dreadnought

These two minis really pack a punch, just like their in-game stats. Impressive size (they are giants after all) and nice looking sculpts. The paint is a little basic on the hammer wielding giant and a tad sloppy on the dreadnought shields. But it’s nothing egregious.

On the note of paint, for this post I reviewed the dreadnought 5E artwork and noticed that the giant is sporting a braided ponytail, which can be seen sticking out of their armor. Much to my surprise, this is actually in the sculpt as well, but it’s just painted the same color as the armor. I had never noticed this. It should be noted that the armor on both minis looks top notch.

Of the three polymorph forms, just the one is new to campaign 2, the Arcane Fury & Divine Might Phantom Steed. So this is a great steed. But the saddle might be even better. Look at all that detail! It has the appearance of such a believable object. Although I’m unsure why a horse made of magic would require a saddle. If you’re a wizard penning a spell, surely you could correct that outstanding anatomical horse design flaw.

This new mini has great spell effects to boot. Quite the magical figure. I must lodge one complaint with this set of Spell Effects though. The bases are done in a translucent style and you can see the text on the bottom through the top of the base. Kinda sloppy.

We really could have used some condition markers like this back in the 4E days. In fact, 3D printers could have helped in a lot of ways during 4th Edition. Could have 3D printed a new edition for example, am I right folks!? Just joking around of course, I’m very fond of 4E actually. Anyway, these conditional markers are beautiful. And they are set at a truly beautiful price, free over on Thingverse.

Closing Thoughts and Predictions

I’m confident there will continue to be plenty of DF Caverns on CR. Hoping to see some Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Game era drow next episode. There are loads of brilliant drow sculpts from that line of figures. But perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself. After all, The Mighty Nein has like another fiscal quarter’s worth of walking left before they get to Xhorhas.

Germany is known for many things. It is, after all, the home of high-quality products and big industries. People visiting the country or even living here as expats/diplomats often find themselves shopping and bringing home locally-made items that could last them for generations. Functional souvenirs, if you will. I was never one for keychains or magnets as they usually become clutter and accumulate dust. Beautiful, functional, and timeless pieces are a much better choice for some serious return of investment (ROI). For this, I often recommend pieces from Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (KPM Berlin).

It’s true that porcelain costs way more than your average ‘I Love Berlin’ shirt. However, it’s a true work of art that you can actually use and can last lifetimes.

I was lucky enough to be given a tour of the facility along with one of my closest friends in Berlin, Ute (Forum Magazine). We were shown the rigorous process of how KPM makes their porcelain and how their porcelain artists create such exquisite pieces that go beyond tableware.

What is porcelain?

Porcelain belongs to the ceramics family, made from clay mineral raw materials. It uses Kaolin, or white clay, which forms half of the ingredients, as well as feldspar and quartz that each make-up 25% of the whole mix. It’s not easy to make porcelain. One needs a great deal of knowledge and experience. It is, however, quite rewarding. Porcelain is valuable due to its chemical and physical properties.

A teacup handle

Once moulded, fired, and glossed, the seemingly simple mixture becomes hard enough to withstand high temperatures. It becomes waterproof and even resistant to chemical attack. It also doesn’t deteriorate with age.

Creating art in KPM Berlin

I won’t bore you too much with the jargon but the process actually takes some time. The mixture of kaolin, feldspar, and quartz are actually mixed together with water which is then taken out through a filter and press system. The mixture is then aged for a year before it could be moulded into different shapes.

Plaster moulds for teacup handles

Plaster moulds are used to help form the porcelain. These moulds are 16% bigger than the intended size as the clay tends to shrink while it is being fired at.

Cleaning up and smoothing out the edges

After the clay comes out of the mould, they are cut up and cleaned by hand. While teacup handles (above) seem easy enough, KPM has some baskets and even dessert plates that require filigree latticework that would require one of their artists to make three thousand precise cuts for each item.

Turning up the heat

After a couple of quality checks, the porcelain is fired up in their ovens at a temperature of 980 degrees centigrade. After which, the porcelain is dipped in blue pigment. This makes it easy for quality control to spot imperfections. After all, only faultless porcelain gets the blue KPM stamp.

Shiny, shiny glaze

Perfect porcelain pieces are then dipped in glaze. Some pieces that come with matte details get a coating of orange pigment that keeps the glaze off. This is applied by hand, right before the pieces are submerged in the glaze.

The artwork on porcelain is made by hand. KPM’s painters take time – sometimes months – to complete paintings on bigger pieces.

I just love how their painting rooms feel so homey. Their artists have been with them for years and they’ve personalised their spaces to encourage their own creativity. A popular theme on KPM Berlin vases is nature and the artists surrounded themselves with plants as inspiration.

Taking the art home

The end of the tour brings you to the manufacturing site’s shop. A huge space that’s a mix of modern and traditional. I love how the 255-year-old company keeps up with the times. It’s like saying that porcelain is not just for old people and those who like antiques. They usually do collaborations with artists and they even have a special edition of the Halle vase for the 100th year of Bauhaus.
