838 Strange | Part 1: Sketch

This took a lot longer than I'm proud to admit. I've been working on this sketch for three days and struggling to even remotely find a pose reference I liked to use for him. Ultimately, I thought about @fanartka and the first prompt on their Strangetober list that said "Stay back!" and then No Witness came on. Just like that, I had an idea in my head for a pose and came up with this idea. This is actually a composition of two pictures of Ben. One of Sherlock and one of Stephen.

I took a look creative freedom on it and made it so that it looks like he's fighting to keep the third eye from opening while he's in battle and it's wearing on him. Because it didn't seem correct that Sinister, What If Strange and now 616 all have a third eye but this pretty boy didn't. Nope sir, you get one too.

But I'm very happy with how this came out! Despite this asshole's robes being the lovechild of the Roaring 20s

to think that 838 christine told 616 stephen "we never quite figured that out" to answer his question "what were we to each other in this universe" because she didn't want to say that she loved her stephen so much but that she wasn't sure he loved her back is breaking my heart, i can't believe she probably spent their entire relationship doubting herself and trying to gain stephen's affection only because he kept negging her, not because he was a selfish jerk but because, like all stephens, he was scared to care for someone or have someone care for him, but in fact (like all stephens) he loved her more than anything and anyone, and so when 616 stephen opened himself up to her and told her this and that he loved her in every universe her expression said it all ; the way she goes from disbelief to utter happiness and the way her eyes filled with happy tears because now she knows that her stephen too loved her all this time <3

Bear Me No Witness

Part 2: Lineart I was afraid to actually work on this boy because I was even more intimidated by his robes than I was by Defenders. Thankfully when I began to work on it, the process became very relaxing and I found myself enjoying it as I followed the picture's lead. I even made some changes to him that he wanted me to.

For all of those who are looking to start drawing, there are two important things to remember: 1: Your pictures are living things, because they are a part of you. Listen to them when they start talking to you and follow their lead. You may just be surprised what you actually come up with if you let them lead and help bring them to life. Your mind and spirit come out in the paper/on the screen and the picture your drawing takes on a life of its own. It's important to remember that it's a part of you and you need to listen to what your instincts and inner voice are telling you through the picture. 2: References are your BEST FRIEND. I would never have gotten this far in this drawing had it not been for the references my friend @fanartka posting of the robes that Mr. Cumberbatch used on set. When you're in doubt about anything, always do your research on what it is your drawing. And there's no shame in feeling stressed. Take your time and be kind to yourself. It will all unfold for the better.
