Lazarus (Gotham AU)

Pairing: Gen

A/N: ummm, no reasons for this. Gotham/DC AU? I just thought it'd be funny to put them in situations so this is pretty short. I started writing this before I posted the initial blurb.

Dying is a common occurrence and so is being alive after dying. What is not normal is for you to literally be drowning upon living.

Here's the thing. Although you metaphorically compare dying to drowning where it pulls you under turbulent waves and tries to keep you down, there hasn't been a situation where you've actually drowned while in Foundation custody.

So, why did it feel like you were actually drowning now? Between the way it felt like your skin was burning and how your lungs were starting to run out of air, you had fairly good evidence that you were "alive" and not “dead right now. Actually dying isn’t an issue but still, it’s messy and you prefer living when possible.

With the strength you have left, you kick yourself up and break the water’s surface, gasping for air as you emerge. You cough as you fumble and try to grip onto the edge of the vessel. After a few moments, the coughing ends and you're left feeling like you have torn your throat out. You rub the water out of your eyes and finally take a look at where you've ended up.

This was not where you were before you died. A cave with looming walls and stalagmites hanging from the ceiling surrounds you. You turn your gaze down at the water you're in. It's green. And glowing.

"Well," you say, oddly calm, "this is bad."

Your voice echoes in the empty cave. There’s only one universe you’re somewhat familiar with that has pits like these and it’s been years since you’ve read those comic books. Really, it’s like your childhood is coming back to haunt you.

As quickly as you can, you get out of the Lazarus pit and shiver as wind rushes by. The water drips off your soaked clothes but you try to squeeze most of it out. With any amount of luck, hypothermia won’t kill you after this. If it does, you’ll end up back here again anyways.

For now, you'll need to get out of here. Sticking around the pits isn’t good and whatever issues arise from it, you can deal with later. You glance around and start heading to the only opening around. You're unfamiliar with where this was but surely you'd find a way out with enough tries, right?

The water is still bubbling when you leave. You think it'll probably haunt you for the next week, at least.

Your au with Miles and Spot teaming up, does it have a name?

Also would Miles change his custom?

Cause on one hand, him changing his custom to be more villainous is cool supervillain 101. But on the other hand there is a statement to be made by not changing the custom and hunting down all the Spider-Man while using his normal spider-man custom, no adjustments to make it more villainous just plain old spider-man.

And lastly: your content’s really funny and cool 👍

I just would call it anomalous cause that's kinda who and what it focuses on.

As for Miles, he plays the long con, making the other spider people think he's still trying to uphold the moniker of Spidey in his own way despite his true motives. It's more Miles making them think Spot is holding him captive and using Miles as leverage so they can't just kick his ass when in all actuality it's Miles laying low while making big moves.

More so, instead of the costume changing Miles slowly warps and changes through all the dimension-hopping. Like slowly and through like the Spot's physical presence infecting Miles, his DNA and genetics start taking on aspects of the multiverse. He's not so much a cosmic threat like the Spot, more so he slowly starts being able to stay on other earths longer and soon without glitching at all. I'd say instead of the normal suit, his suit would glitch to look like a weird patchwork of his and other Spiders' suits, depending on the dimension he's in. (say a mix of his and Gwen's if he was on Earth-65B) but with a lot more visual glitching and weirdness, cause he still is an anomaly that doesn't belong.

Though I think he'd just start looking warped after a while if not in his home earth. It's not a physical part of him but a new horrid ability that surrounds him and affects other worlds when it's active.

'Anomalous' sneak peek, pt2, probably the start to chapter 2

Izuku is gone by the time he returns to his apartment with a few packets of Mei's little surveillance devices. He'd expected this, but he's feeling a little weird about the fact that Izuku hasn’t returned by the time night falls.

When midnight rolls around and there's still no sign of his new obsession little mystery, he decides to do a little snooping.

He steps out onto their shared balcony and peers into the darkened apartment. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s done a little breaking and entering to find answers to questions he hadn’t realized he’d had.

For this little anomaly to have shown up at his door begging for sugar of all things and be apparently immune to his quirk? There has to be some kind of setup going on here.

Maybe a commission plant? (Unlikely, but assuming everyone’s a potential threat has served him well for the last several years.)

Maybe a test from his benefactor to ensure he hasn’t grown lax in his awareness? It makes more sense. He’s been overseas in a variety of countries with much less stringent rules and regulations for nearly two years, now. It’s been a veritable vacation of assignments, and upon his return, the only thing he’d found in the assignment safety deposit box had been the address and keys to the nondescript safe house.

His first two guesses are that it’s either just a safe place to stay that’s not Mei’s couch, or it’s some kind of test by his shadowy employer that-is-definitely-not-Nedzu. But now that he’s been directed to live next door to someone that coincidentally has a natural immunity to his quirk? There’s a third possibility teasing at the edge of his thoughts, but he’s not sure what it might be just yet.

(Hitoshi has found that there are rarely true coincidences in his line of work.)

His neighbor’s apartment is utterly still. 

Shi weaves back through his open balcony door, up through a vent, and across into the neighboring apartment to unlock the window leading into what he assumes is Izuku’s bedroom.

His eye twitches with mixed amusement. It’s too easy. 

Maybe too easy. 

He doesn’t drop his guard as he slips through the silent interior. He’s adjusted Shi's volume to pick up the faint hum of any powered devices, but the home is nearly silent save for a quiet rumble in the distance as the building AC cranks up.

There’s a sleeping laptop atop a small stack of paper. He eyes the ports on the side of the machine, contemplating if it’s worth wasting one of his piggyback chips to break into the device. 

Maybe later, depending on how much information he can get out of him without resorting to more intrusive methods. 

Shi lifts the laptop so that he can peek at the printed paperwork. He thinks it might be French. He takes a photo and runs it through a translation tool, and it turns out to be a really dry reading about poor (and easily exploitable) employee habits at a European company. 

He narrows his eyes with consideration. 

This kind of intel is pretty tame to most anyone that might come across it at random, but to someone in Hitoshi’s line of work, it’s the stuff he likes to know about prior to infiltrating a target's base of operations.

He carefully sifts through the closet and drawers, looking for anything hidden or potentially incriminating. There is a concerning number of long-sleeved shirts and hoodies when compared to the three short-sleeved tees he finds, two of which appear to be used for sleeping. 

Strange. 

Tucked away in the very back of his closet, he finds two button-up shirts and a jacket, which indicates that he probably has a pretty low-key place of employment. It’s doubtful that he meets with anyone important in person, but if that employee report tells him anything, it's that he probably does remote reporting for international clientele. 

He doesn't find any secret compartments in either the closet or the drawers, but he does happen upon some private items he expects Izuku probably never intended another living soul to ever see. In various shapes and styles. 

Hm.

Perhaps he shouldn't be so excited by the sight of someone's sex toys, but the idea of keeping this little mystery around on a more long-term basis is starting to take root. 

He contemplates the merits of seducing this person that's drawn his interest. If his quirk doesn't work on him, then he has a chance of trying a real, safe, and normal(ish) relationship. 

(Normal-ish? Who is he kidding... There cannot be anything normal about being in a relationship with someone like him.) 

At least he won't ever have to worry about accidentally catching him with his quirk. He's intrigued by the possibilities, but...unfortunately has no idea how to go about enticing a potential partner.

Obviously, he can't go the usual route and pay for his services.

Hm. 

He eyes the pile of innocuous reporting. Maybe he can pay for services, just of a different sort.

Request some similar work, pay him for services rendered, and ease him into a more physical relationship?

There already seems to be a perfectly functional chemistry between them.

He eyes the lines of notebooks along two shelves. He sidles over and picks one at random, flipping through pages of coded entries. He runs the tip of his tongue along his lip, feeling a surge of growing interest. 

First, French intel on a company's weakness? 

Now these notebooks absolutely packed with content that's written in a manner to discourage nosey snoops? 

There are tables and calculations scribbled in the margins alongside a few illustrations of vaguely familiar support items with labels pointing to what he thinks might be weak points.

His heartbeat ticks up as his excitement grows. He's found something big. He snaps a few photographs and sends one to Mei, curious what she might say.

There's a beat of ten seconds before she blows up his phone with replies:

Mei: HITO

Mei: WHERE THE FUCK DID YOU FIND THAT

Mei: CAN I HAVE MORE

He chuckles and sends a few more photographs her way. 

The intrigue builds.

A particularly young looking version of himself raises his hand, "-I stole his hoverbike, actually."

An older version of himself cocks his head in confusion, "-Shiro doesn't even own a car. He's like, eighteen."

"Shiro?" A version of himself who is sporting some nasty looking purple lichtenberg scars asks. "You mean like, Adam's fiancee? I've never even met him."

Another version of himself, one wearing actual armor, just looks deeply confused. "What's a car?"

"Ditto," says another version of himself with bronze-colored eyes and a dusty cloak, "-what's a car."

"I helped steal a ship to break him out of Central Command," a version of himself in druid robes replies, "-does that count?"

Keith hums. Okay. So there's outliers, definitely. But most of the other versions of himself gathered in this strange place had most definitely raised their hands.

"So basically what you're saying is," and a way more Galra version of himself wearing the armor of one of Lotor's generals says this, "-maybe like 90% of us have at some point, stolen a vehicle belonging to Shiro."

"I never stole his car, but I did try to kill him," a version of himself who would otherwise look normal if not for the scar on his cheek that he hadn't gotten in his own universe until years later said, "-that counts for something, right?"

Two different versions of himself, one more Galra looking and clad in Blade armor, and the other more human dressed in orange and blue ask in tandem, "Wait, you tried to kill him!?"

"Yeah, sorry," a version of himself that looks more like a chimera raises a hand, "-I tried to kill him too. In my defense, I was fucked up on quintessence."

"Oh, ditto on the brainwashing," replies another version of himself wearing Blade armor, but looking more human than some of the others, "-also I was possessed at the time too?"

"...are you guys like, okay?" A version of himself that resembles Lotor a little too closely for anyone's comfort asks.

A lot of the other versions of himself simply reply no.

"Cool," Keith said, "-glad to know we're all kind of deeply fucked up."

Help wanted!

Hello! I’m Univer, creator of “Underfell?”! Yes, the question mark is part of the name.

I’ve also created the aus @hellspawntale-rebooted, @univer-underswap, and @ut-anomalous.

But, did you know, 3 out of these 4 AUs are actually OVERHAULS of old ones?

Yeah. Hellspawntale was originally REALLY BORING. The characters had like, no personality. But then, a year after the original, I started Hellspawntale Rebooted. (And finished it a few months back. The story has been continuing via Askblog ever since.)

Univer’s Underswap and Underfell? Are also rehauls of my old takes of Underswap and Underfell, which were really, REALLY bad.

But there’s one thing Hellspawntale Rebooted has that the other 3 don’t.

A completed (ish) Story.

The rest are kinda too big scaled for me to handle alone. Why? Well..

For Univer’s Underswap, it’s kinda hard for me to make battle sprites, cuz I’m just so used to overworlds and all that stuff.

For Undertale Anomalous, battle sprites are fine, cuz they’re all deltarune styled battles, but the MAPS are all different from Undertale, and I can’t really make maps.

For Underfell?, battle sprites like Univer’s Underswap, but also kinda maps too.

And don’t even get me STARTED on Music. The team has ONE musician. Granted, they’re actually really good at it, but still. One isn’t enough for like, 3 AUs.

Art? Unfortunately, I suck at normal art. Just SUCK.

And that’s why I’m here today, to announce..

HELP IS WANTED!

If you wanna join the team, join the Discord Server. And ask to join the team. Then, show proof of your work and I’ll decide if it’ll work. Simple.

But, what exactly do I mean by “Joining the team?”

Honestly, if Doctor Mc and all the senior researchers randomly showed up in Gothom, I could see them causing so much crime that they catch the attention of all the Bats, the news, and after seeing the news, the rest of the Justice League’s attention too and then they just disappear and everyone is so confused but also just rolling with it. 

What I think they did in Gotham;

•Iceberg set a few different places on fire and there were definitely explosives involved.

•Kondraki fought multiple people in the streets with his sword, and eventually he has a duel with Katana because I said so

•Clef and Jason meet at some point. Clef tries to have a gun duel, but Mc stops it due to them being at Mc’s job

•Gears is babysitting where they can and when he wants to. Everyone is unsettled by Gear's personality since he is always so calm around his “friends” and is very emotionally blank. He also is trying very hard to find a way back home unlike his companions.

•Bright is causing SO MUCH chaos since the “Things Dr Bright Is Not Allowed to Do” isn’t around and the Foundation would never know. (Foundation wonders where he got his new body from and how he died while they were all away, Bright comes up with some weird and uncomfortable reason). Bright also makes so many jokes about being in New Jersey.

•Glass is attempting to keep them all in line in his own way while simultaneously telling them that now that they aren’t in the foundation they should use this time to talk about the said foundation and their feelings towards it (Mc is brutally honest to Glass but none of the others even pay him any mind). Glass desperately trying to get them to talk to him and giving them quick on-the-fly therapy sessions (along with giving strangers therapy sessions) is making him slowly lose his mind.

•Clef and Iceberg both help Mc accidentally kill the Joker (there are explosives, a shotgun, and Mc dying involved) but Clef doesn’t get phased. Mc tries to hide their connection to it and Iceberg is just wondering if they should bury him or set him on fire (and while is more disrespectful to a clown who wants to go out in style). Mc is just going with it and taking up jobs to keep them afloat while Gears finds them a way home and everyone else does illegal activities. Mc pretends not to know them unless they need to.

Mc and gears are like parents lmao

whatever this setting is that im creating has a tag now (chaos energy au, im not feeling creative and it just needs Any Tag). some more thoughts about chaos energy and the fellas using it:

chaos energy is inherently destructive, and there's a reason its primary uses lie in powering machinery; organic bodies are easily damaged by it when trying to handle large quantities of it at once

chaos emeralds are almost uncomfortably warm to touch, not enough to burn but you won't enjoy handling them bare-handed

echidnas are the only species that naturally resist the effects of chaos energy, and are able to harness it without drawbacks. most of it likely has to do with them evolving in proximity of the emeralds, but there are no clear answers as to why

sol energy is still the baja blast of chaos energy and has similar if not the exact same properties

blaze can withstand both sol and chaos energy with no ill effects due to the presence of iblis in her heart. she's not aware of it, but he cycles the energy out of her system safely and without allowing it to harm her

shadow was hand-crafted to withstand chaos energy as well as possible, giving him the innate ability to chaos control with ease and utilize the energy's full potential with no real side effects

he's not exactly made of chaos energy, but rather has a resistance similar to echidnas that allows him use it freely

a super state inherently burns away at its host. this cannot be prevented through regular means, and the only one who resists this is blaze due to iblis' presence

sonic is not immune to the effects of a super state

he has built up some resistance over the several times he has entered a super state, but this is more akin to a numbness to the destructive effects rather than any true resistance

silver's super state during the fight against solaris nearly destroyed him, partially resulting to his generally unstable existence post-06

a super state's destructive effects can be hastened and amplified through repeated transformations in quick success, prolonged transformations, and the host already being in a weakened state from other causes and effects (i.e. cyber corruption, dark gaia's influence...)

#chaos energy au #yes sonic uses the emeralds irresponsibly and i would make it catch up to him if i could #knuckles could go super with no real problems. blaze and shadow are anomalous #silver would be incinerated if he ever tried it again #the shields in heroes that tails and knux get in the final story were definitely created by sonic #in an effort to protect them from the fucked up nature of a super form #him sharing the super form in 06 was a desperation move when it came to silver in particular #sonic doesn't care if it fucks him up and knows shadow can take it #and likely assumed silver was built different too. he wasn't. is even less so now #and as for frontiers sonic probably could've withstood the corruption mostly fine #if he didn't enter a super state every five minutes #it would've been uncomfortable and unfun but he could have taken it at least for a longer time #but you know. you keep burning yourself away and you do it over and over again and corrupt yourself some more in between #it's not good for you
