Beginner's Luck (the illusion of a perfect first draft)
I always feel like I get a case of ‘beginner’s luck’ on my first draft. The first draft of every project is like my golden child--put together, cohesive, pretty--while the ones that come after it are my difficult disaster children, they seem to just fall apart at the seams.
But it’s important to remember that that is exactly the second, third, fourth, even tenth draft’s job. Of course the more we unpack and analyze the more it's going to fall apart—but through piecing it back together every draft little by little, we’re creating something far greater than what we started with.
It’s a labour of hard work and persistence. Maybe the first draft looks prettier—but underneath there’s millions of problems, whereas our final draft was forged inside out, and made stronger by its struggles. So don’t get discouraged by “beginner’s luck”, I promise you have so much more potential than you think.
                Good luck!

awkward moment today where my boss and I were having a really frank talk about how nobody is going to take the job for the pay she's offering and I mentioned that there was still a free room in the company house, available for the right person. Not that I want a housemate but it'd be cool for another person to have a place to live and we really need another worker. And she was like "well only if it was a woman."
"Doesn't matter to me either way," I said. Do I want just anyone living in my house? No?? But people are people. I'm gender fluid and pan/ace so depending on how you look at it either everyone is safe or no one is. (I'm joking, I've never flirted with a coworker in 10 years. Ew.)
She really looked at me with my men's haircut, men's clothes, and man personality on a man day, and said 'you woman tho hur dur.' I can't come out at work bc technically they could fire me over it so... whatever.
I've spent a lot of nights in homes and hostels that weren't gendered and never felt unsafe or out of place because of it. I recognize I'd be statistically more likely to be harassed by a cis straight man no matter how I identify, but fortunately I seem to have cultivated a supremely unappealing and mildly deranged image that keeps those at bay. Leg hair does most of the work. And I keep a man shaped gun range target where I shot a whole magazine through the bullseye and another through the head framed next to my bed.

The Beginning!
It is said, learnt and understood that "Good things don't come easy". The simpler this statement sounds and the easier it appears from the outside, it is equally and remarkably difficult, deep (and sometimes dark) to go through. Well, umm.... it takes passion, hardwork, dedication, loads and loads of tears and ofcourse a bunch of failures to reach where you actually started for, and sometimes way too much ahead of what you yourself expected in your wildest dreams.
Ambitions and looking upto someone or something has always been a part of one's life, be it good or bad (could be good from someone else's perspective). And so began the story. An ambitious kid, willing to do no matter what, to stand out of the group, to be the best of the rest and have a certain degree of respect in anyone and everyone around him. That's when it all started.
Good with numbers⚡, excited to see an engineer around and ofcourse the goto of a whole bunch of crowd made him decide to choose Maths and Science as the foreseeable future. It was always going to be easier said than done, never easy to walk away from and too late to know if it's even right or just a mishap that's there to come from. The journey began, the journey of kota and the start of a dream. Classes started, days started to pass by, rather slowly than anyone would ever imagine. Who knew it was the quiet before the storm to come. And such an innocent kid who was lost in the idea of singularity and living on his own, in a totally new world, just got fascinated by the environment around, gave away the moment that could shape his life and the entire future in the ground. Days passed by, movies🎥 and web series took over, idea of a new smartphone phone rang and bam💥, flames of fire started to catch anything and everything in it's way🔥.
The test scores started decreasing, at times in exponential order. Some glimmer of hope and sight of good scores flashed to keep him in the mix, nevertheless it passed by with the brilliance of misfortune and bad luck. The smartphone 📱 screen was damaged and it all came back to the books, the only friend that there ever could. Sometimes it was just never meant to be, no matter how hard you try. Such was the situation now, the little genius starting to focus and study and work to be up there but ehh, it kinda was too little too late. Pressure mounted upon the little fella and panicked by it, he got sick. Sick to bed for the upcoming 2-3 months, the most important months of his life, something that could have shaped the whole future.
A lack of passion, determination and a ton load of carelessness led to the first major failure of life, destroying the hope of entering an IIT or NIT and be a part of the best and prestigious engineering college of the nation.
It not only broke the dream but also the hope of becoming some one or something. Everything was completely shattered for the little kid. That night, the kid cried on the terrace for hours and hours and shouted his cry for help which he couldn't get and just sat there until he was about to fall sleep in his own tears. It wasn't easy and it became much more difficult to see himself in the mirror and to answer the question, "What did you do in the 2 years spending all the money and resources out there?" There were no answers but utter silence.
That's when the kid understood that it takes so much more than just deciding to do something. You have to actually stand upto the task and fight for it in order to achieve it.
(That same year his cousin secured AIR xxxx and entered one of the top seven IITs, IIT Roorkee. He was living with this cousin this whole time. The kid is and will always remain fortunate to be able to get to know such an incredible person from up close. Cheers to the scholar🎉✨)

Books I Read in 2023
#18 - Beginner's Luck, by Kate Clayborn
Rating: 3/5 stars
An extremely solid 3/5, with points given for an unapologetically intelligent heroine, and points subtracted for one of the major conflicts in the romance involving a high degree of miscommunication, which I generally dislike.
Oddly, for me what I liked best about this wasn't either of the leads (they're fine, but I didn't fall in love with either) but the nesting factor. A large part of their interactions involve fixing up Kit's house, or shopping at Ben's dad's salvage yard in order to fix up the house. I am one of the many people who, confined to home by the pandemic, got the urge to improve my living space, aided by a planned-but-delayed full apartment renovation in 2021. While I'm not out there scrounging for vintage chandelier parts and hinge plates for the historic home I don't have, I was completely in sympathy with the thrill of the hunt for the perfect item and the joy of small changes, the patience of respecting the process competing with the desire to make your space as perfect as possible.
I realize that's not going to speak to everyone, and it's sort of damning with faint praise that I enjoyed and remembered that aspect of the story more than the actual characters. I also think it's a little weird, and could have been addressed better or more thoroughly, the conflict between Kit's father's gambling problem and her lingering issues with it, and the fact that the entire premise of this series is that she and her friends went in together on what turned out to be a winning lottery ticket. What little page time was devoted to it seemed more like lampshading, "let's acknowledge this but move past it as quickly as possible." And in terms of series progression, would it have been better to start with a friend who didn't feel conflicted about her winnings, and save the one who felt conflicted about the money for the end? I think it might have been.

Aquarius, The Waterbearer in a traditional Japanese style. Fun fact, this is the oldest piece of art that I still have today. Which is equal parts cool and sad seeing as it's also one of my best pieces imo.

Ways to increase luck in your home
Increasing luck energy in your home can be approached from various perspectives, such as feng shui, positive mindset, and creating a harmonious environment.
Here are a few ways to enhance luck energy in your home:
1. Declutter and Organize: Keep your living space clean, tidy, and clutter-free. Clutter can obstruct the flow of positive energy, so creating a well-organized environment allows luck to circulate freely.
2. Enhance Natural Light: Open curtains and blinds to allow natural light to enter your home. Natural light promotes a sense of positivity and vitality, creating a brighter and more auspicious atmosphere.
3. Use Colors Wisely: Incorporate colors associated with luck and prosperity, such as red, gold, purple, and green. You can use these colors in your decor, artwork, or accessories to infuse positive energy into your surroundings.
4. Add Plants and Fresh Flowers: Plants and flowers bring life and vibrancy into your home. Choose plants with rounded leaves, such as jade plants or money plants, as they are believed to attract wealth and good fortune.
5. Create a Welcoming Entrance: The entrance to your home is important in inviting positive energy. Keep it clean, well-lit, and clutter-free. Consider adding auspicious symbols or a beautiful doormat to create a positive first impression.
6. Arrange Furniture Thoughtfully: Arrange furniture in a way that promotes a smooth flow of energy throughout your home. Avoid blocking doorways or obstructing pathways with furniture, as it may impede luck energy.
7. Display Symbols of Luck: Decorate your home with symbols of luck and prosperity, such as a laughing Buddha, lucky coins, or a horseshoe. These symbols are believed to attract positive energy and good fortune.
Remember, the concept of luck can vary from person to person, so it's essential to create an environment that resonates with your own beliefs and preferences.

Yule Protection / Good Luck Charm
Tumblr media
For this one, I placed the following items in a sachet:
- sprigs of rosemary, lavender, sage, and a berry from a holly tree (all from my garden)
- clementine peel
- evil eye bead (given by a friend)
- a purpose-made sigil
- a sprinkle of ash from last year's first-burnt Yule log
I then said a spell and sealed the sachet.

how long does it take you to draw one wolf ? Do you use references for each drawing ? Also, what advice would you like to give to beginner artists ? Everytime I try to draw anything but don't succeed I rage quit :(
it takes me usually 10 to 60 minutes to draw an average wolf, depending on complexity! i don't use references for every single drawing because i know wolves so well, but if i want it to look especially accurate or its a pose im unfamiliar with then i will.
my best advice for beginner artists is just to keep drawing. i cant stress how important that is. i know it can feel really hard to draw sometimes and at times frustrating, unfair, stupid, pointless, etc. but it isn't. practice might not make perfect but it makes better. drawing more will build up both the dexterity in your hand and your technical skill with your tools. the fact that you're rage quitting shows that you know what you want to be able to make and that's an important step. if you keep working towards that, eventually you'll get there. no one is born into the world a talented artist and it's taken me 10 years to get to where i am. drawing every day, or every other day, or once a week, or as often as you can will help more than any other advice i could give.
but also, everything is shapes. try to simplify complicated things into squares and triangles and circles, it makes them easier to draw. o7

Can u teach me python from basic 🙄pls
ok the problem with this question is that it would simply take too long for me to explain to u the basics of programming like functions, statements, loops, variables etc. but i CAN direct u to some good resources that would help u in ur python journey and explain all this stuff
freecodecamp (i think the person for this course explains it nicely here)
pythonprogramming
i especially recommend u look at this website called fullstackpython, which has HEAPS of python beginner recs that seem very useful
u should also be doing projects & exercises to really hammer in what you're learning, so i'd recommend project euler (also found on freecodecamp) or that u search up 'coding exercises' on google. there are some projects listed in fullstackpython i believe as well
