Writeblr Introduction

Just learned what a writeblr intro is so I'm gonna make one before I go to bed lol

I've already done something like this a few days ago but that was when I had no clue what I was doing lmao, so might as well make a more in depth one

About me:

I write mostly fantasy and urban fantasy, and honestly i dont think i've ever written a story that was non-fantasy lol

Started writing when I was 10, but it was mostly Warrior Cats fanfiction on Wattpad lol. I went through a writing slump for most of highschool but last year I decided to get back into it since I'm not doing anything else lol

I like to read fantasy and classic lit, also anything with vampires. I also have a soft spot for slowburn romances where the main characters dont kiss until, like, the 4th book heehee

In love with anything gothic, vampire, and wlw 👩‍❤‍💋‍👩

I think one of my more niche interests is any early 2000s fantasy/sci-fi movie with a nu-metal/rock/alternative soundtrack like Queen of the Damned and The Crow. They are just...*chefs kiss*

My current stories:

A Chant for Blood (Formerly known as Account of Calamity)

Account of Calamity is a gothic victorian fantasy about a Grand Marshal, Karliah Helisende, and a blood-drinking fiend, Yorick Gwynplaine, who work together to investigate the mysterious portals that spawn dangerous creatures into the city of Isarnan, all the while Karliah is being haunted by the mysterious ancient temple that watches over her every move.

I'm currently working on the second draft, and I may start looking for beta readers once I'm finished, although I know I'm not far from finished with this novel. I also plan to make it a 4 or 5 book series, and slowly add a slowburn romance.

Our Demonic Hearts - The Craven Pact Series #1

Our Demonic Hearts is a urban fantasy about a cambion woman, Ana Kravens, haunted by her past. Taking place in a small Mississippi town, a man she went through a traumatic incident with, Beau Motloe, shows up on her doorstep one day with a deal; help him find his missing mother, and he'll give back the memories she lost during the traumatic incident. Her father, a demonic creature of unknown origin, wants nothing more than the Motloes dead, claiming that they were the very reason his daughter was almost killed 6 years ago. Ana goes against her father's wishes and accepts Beau's deal, suspecting that her father isn't telling the whole truth about that fatal night.

It is completed and available on Wattpad and Royal Road!! It was just a small project I had done for Nanowrimo, and has been edited at least once before being published. However, I plan to make it a trilogy and maybe have some spin-offs. This story is fairly new, but most of the characters are at least 5 years old and I love them very much <3

What I plan for 2024:

Finish the second draft of Account of Calamity and look for beta readers(In the beta reader phase!)

Start the second novel of The Craven Pact Series

Write a short story/novella or two taking place within the Account of Calamity universe. My brain is currently exploding with ideas rn(2 are in the drafting process currently!)

Write a short story about Ana Kraven's mom and how she met Marchosias, Ana's father.

Plan something for Nano?? Idk where I'll be in November lol

I'm interested in following other writers and reading everybody's stories! I would also be interested in a beta read/beta swap ^^

Shameless promotion first:

Hello! It would be a waste not to try to ride what remains of the armored core hype train to say you should check out our radio drama / actual play podcast All That You Know!

It's a sci-fi / cyberpunk story about a war on a distant world, where an Oppressive Utilitarian Government fights against spiritual freedom fighters, and the players are on the Oppressive Government's side! Of course, most of the fighting is done by giant robots.

If that high concept overview sounds even remotely interesting, you should give it a shot! You can find more information here.

REVISIONS:

With that out of the way, I just wanted to say I made some changes to the introduction + episode 0. Mainly cleaning up some audio, and removing the narrative introduction from ep. 0 because it was a bit confusing having it repeated.

In my mind, this will make it a bit more approachable. (But I still regret calling the real first episode, episode .5. bad call on my part, but not an easy fix without shuffling the entire series).

We're well past 600 downloads now, and we are all so happy that you folks are liking the show. I've been pretty bad with promoting this anywhere but tumblr, and I am so glad I've been able to reach people on this platform.

Maybe one day we'll branch out once the dust settles in the social-media sphere. But until then, we're a tumblr show baypy.

I Wrote About The Future; Then It Happened

So, you might have noticed a bit of a lack of blog posts over the winter. Well, this time it's not (just) depression eating me alive. I made a thing - two things, actually.

Consider this a soft reboot, and a perfectly good starting point in the series. Book 3, The Meaning Wars, follows two characters: Sarah, the weary Behavioural Criminal arrested for associating with dissidents, and Crystal, a wormhole engineer dissatisfied with her marriage and the safe, boring jobs she's been taking. Linked by friendship and their Martian origins, the two women fight ongoing trauma to reclaim their senses of self.

Book 4, Poe's Outlaws, finds Crystal and Sarah pursuing intersecting paths. Sarah has become a smuggler, wrapped up in a rescue mission to save a revolutionary leader (who happens to be her inspiration and her crush). Crystal is taking a much-needed vacation, but an old flame, the one who got away, is about to throw her life right back into chaos. The only way out? Friendship, teamwork, and possibly, a revolution. It's a beach episode featuring queer love, aliens, and derring-do.

I'm working on book 5, A Jade's Trick. I'm past the halfway point, but for a few months, I got completely stuck. Part of it was debating on the tone for the ending. War threatens, and I had no idea how to resolve the conflict. Should I choose something idealistic, where the corrective safeguards of the system work, or something drastic and grim, a more realistic vision of power dynamics? I couldn't choose, and it felt like a very abstract question.

Then war came to Ukraine, and I got a tiny taste of what it might be like to stand in Crystal's boots.

Apocalypse Turducken

Being in the late? portion of a pandemic, as very hurried politicians insist we are, and having that pandemic overlap with the disruptive attack on the American election (followed recently by a halfassed attempt to do the same here in Canada, with the farcical embarrassment of the trucker protests) [links], I wasn't exactly expecting more calamities. But the universe isn't really into following scripts or plot arcs or anything sensible like that - no, those are human constructs meant to carve chaos into coherence. I wasn't counting on a paranoid, ruthless dictator deciding that the lull after the second pandemic Olympics was the perfect time for his colonial power-grab.

And I really wasn't prepared for the war to affect me personally. In addition to the fact that my male partner is Ukrainian, a very dear friend is a Kievan native. She has been displaced by the conflict, and she and her mother are scrabbling to make ends meet in a different city. Hopefully, this displacement won't be permanent.

We've set up a fundraiser to help her and her mom while these events are going on. This is a fundraiser to help her and her mom not only get a tablet for her to work on as a graphic designer (her laptop is in Kyiv...), but also to help them get by for the next while. Her mother's job at the library is kind of out of commission right now, and it's possible that they'll have to emigrate elsewhere for safety.

Before this whole war thing got started, I also knitted her a sweater inspired by Yoongi of BTS's famous - and expensive - designer yellow sweater. Proceeds from the sale of the pattern will also be going directly to Katya, to help with resettlement costs. There is a chance that we're going to have to help her migrate to Canada, so anything you can give will be greatly valued.

Can you tell me about ‘if salt loses its savor’? I looked it up and read it and would love to hear what about it made it stick with you so much

Anon I am so beyond happy to answer this

First of all, If Salt Lose Its Savor is a short story by Christopher Caldwell first published in Uncanny Magazine Issue Thirty-Three. Uncanny is among the younger of legendary sci-fi zines, but nevertheless has an amazing collection of fiction and nonfiction pieces, many of which have been nominated for or won Hugos, Nebulas, Shirley Jackson Awards, Locus Awards, etc. Not to mention, Uncanny places a priority of taking stories by POC, disabled authors, queer authors, etc. Suffice to say I don’t think it was an accident that ISLIS ended up there, Christopher Caldwell having other short stories there notwithstanding.

I get why you might be confused as to how it left such an impact - the story is fairly short, the ending isn’t very definitive at first glance, maybe you want to see more of the world, etc.

This makes sense. ISLIS sets up a world that we barely get to see, because we’re stuck in a tiny tiny hamlet by the ocean where women harvest and harvest salt from the ocean, hoping desperately for a tiny bit of blue, magical salt. This they will sell to a mage, and from there they are disconnected from its consequences. Their job is to harvest, not to use or direct the use of the salt.

For me, the genius of ISLIS isn’t in the actual story, although I absolutely love the narrative - it’s in the structure and, yes, in the worldbuilding.

When it comes to worldbuilding, you don’t write the fire in the sky and the massive calamity. How disconnected we must be to get only a birds-eye view! No, as a writer, you describe the child’s burnt sock lying on the side of the road. Make the impact personal. So, no, CC does not describe the political machinations of the world of ISLIS - he describes one woman in a tiny salt harvesting town, who wants a little more money so she and her wife can maybe retire or eat a little better, who is turned restless by salt-dreams.

And despite being who she is, and never becoming some YA hero involved in the fate of the world, she still manages to commit an act so subversive, so fundamentally out of rhyme with all of her previous goals, that we KNOW without seeing it that the consequences for the world we do not get to see will be massive and unmistakable, if not known.

This ultimately comes down to the story structure, that I am able to say this with absolute confidence.

The structure of ISLIS is unbelievably tight. Every single sentence conveys only information you need. If we look at John Truby’s Anatomy of a Story, we see that ISLIS follows the seven steps perfectly:

1. Weakness and need - Dion and the others are gathering salt to sell

2. Desire - they find the blue salt, and Dion begins to think about how “the coin from this can salvage everything you love”

3. Opponent - the mage appears with his weird shadow people to buy the salt

4. Plan - the plan is to sell the salt to the mage. it’s the best they’ve had all season, Dion’s apparently inherited sensitivity is what led them to it, and most importantly, this is the townspeople’s only chance to sell because the mage is the only one still buying

5. Battle - Dion accidentally touches one of the servant and has the experience of understanding that he used to be a boy from a destroyed city

6. Self-revelation - this, combined with the salt dreams, brings Dion to the revelation that the mage has been using the salt for evil purposes

7. New equilibrium - Dion dumps all the salt back into the sea, thus subverting her original desire and possibly safety for a higher morality

Considering that these seven steps are actually REALLY HARD TO PULL OFF, especially in sequence, I think it’s unbelievably CC managed to do so in such a blip of time, with such a singular character who is uninvolved with the rest of the world but is still ultimately connected to it.

Thematically, the story is no less impressive. One small act of protest is all it takes to change the world. It is important to trust your instincts and say “no” and stand up to corruption. CC doesn’t describe the impact losing the salt has for the mage, whether the world is saved or the war ended. He just describes Dion dumping the salt back into the sea, and that to me left such a profound impact, because you don’t have to know the ripple effects to commit an act of goodness and bravery.

Not to mention - the prose is genuinely gorgeous. It’s artful and playful in its descriptions of the salt, stark when describing the mage and devastation in the salt-dreams. The dialect the townswomen use is both believable and familiar without sounding like a caricature, as are their concerns.

Ok. Brando the madman has written a LOT of books. They vary in genre, but ultimately they all have one thing in common—they’re all magical!

There are cosmere books and non-cosmere books. Cosmere is the name of Branderson’s high-fantasy universe that he pours all his best worldbuilding, magic, and story into. It includes a bunch of separate series that are connected through that universe. All other series he’s written outside of the cosmere are unconnected.

The cosmere books tend to be more in-depth when it comes to worldbuilding, and they’re generally heavier in lore and politics, since he pours all his energy into them. They should be read in a certain order if you want to have the full understanding of some stuff that happens. All the non-cosmere series can be read in any order (aside from the order within the series itself, obviously).

There’s also a book of short stories in the cosmere called Arcanum Unbounded. It’s an optional read, but it explains a lot, especially in the Mistborn series.

“So! What order should I read them in?” you ask. Well, it depends on what you want. Here’s my recommendation of the order in which to read the cosmere books, followed by a list of non-cosmere series I love:

Cosmere series:

Elantris

Elantris is a stand-alone book about a holy city that has lost its power. I LOVE IT.

Warbreaker

Warbreaker is another stand-alone! It’s about a young girl, a lazy deity, and a grumpy warrior with a talking sword.

Mistborn

Mistborn has two trilogies, the second of which has a fourth book planned. The first trilogy follows a girl who gets caught up in an impossible heist to overthrow the government. Then, a couple hundred(ish?) years after the events of the first trilogy, two dudes named Wax and Wayne engage in a fun, magical whodunnit western murder mystery. It sounds chaotic, and it is. It’s also excellent.

First Trilogy:

2. Mistborn: The Well of Ascension

3. Mistborn: The Hero of Ages

3.5. The Eleventh Metal, followed by Mistborn: Secret History (found in Arcanum Unbounded story-story book)

The Stormlight Archive

This one. This is the big kahuna. The Stormlight Archive is the central series of the cosmere, with immense worldbuilding and story. It’s about a once-soldier become slave, a witty artist, and a stoic highprince with TWO WONDERFUL SONS. It has two sets of series planned, but the most recent is book four of the first series.

First series:

White Sand (Optional)

White Sand is a graphic novel about a dude with sand magic. It’s very good, but completely optional. As of right now, the most relevance it has to the other cosmere books are easter eggs and details that you can ignore in Stormlight Archive. If you want to, though, you can reread that series after reading white sand and understand those things later. No rush.

I know. It’s a lot. On the bright side, you have a TON of content to enjoy, and an interaction-starved fandom to talk about it with!

MAKE NOTE, THOUGH, Mistborn doesn’t need to be read before The Stormlight Archive. Technically, neither does Elantris. I would highly recommend reading at least Warbreaker before starting Stormlight Archive, though. It’s up to you when you want to read Elantris and Mistborn, but there are things in Stormlight Archive that will make more sense after you’ve at least read the first trilogy of Mistborn.

Non-cosmere

In any order you’d like:

The Reckoners

The Reckoners is a series about superheroes called Epics—except every single Epic is evil. In a post-apocalyptic society, an 18-year-old boy dedicated his life to bringing down these Epics.

Aaaand there you have it! Brandon Sanderson’s complete guide of books. At least, the ones I can remember right now. Keep in mind that he not only keeps a website with multiple progress bars to keep you updated on where he is on his current drafts & projects, but he also has a yearly update he writes on his said website, listing and describing progress on every project he’s ever mentioned—including movie deals and TV scripts. He also uploads advice lectures on storybuilding and writing online.

He also takes care in representation! He has a ton of diverse characters, who differ not only in ethnicity, but sexuality, philosophical beliefs, and mental illness. And basically every character has character development overhaul, especially in his cosmere books. Especially especially in Stormlight Archive. (even his side characters get developed). He’s also incredibly funny and witty, so the jokes riddled throughout are just golden.

In short, this man is the embodiment of the “haha writing machine go brrrr” meme. And he answers questions and keeps his fans updated. Enjoy amazing content by a consistent writer that actually respects, values, and listens to his fandom :D

TOP TECHNOLOGY AND WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT TRENDS

Over the last few decades, the influence of technology on our daily lives has been astounding. Do you recall when music was recorded on portable CDs and getting about required the use of paper maps and (gasp!) asking for directions? Many new models have been developed to make our lives better, and these same developments are being applied to the workplace too though. That is why we have published this article - to highlight some of the most important technological changes affecting workplace health and safety management.

It's an exciting moment to work in the health and safety sector, with numerous emerging technologies already having a big influence on how we do things. And, given the rapid pace at which new concepts are being introduced to the market, there will be many more alternatives available in the not-too-distant future. It's an exciting moment!

We've created a list of 5 leading technologies that have already been developed and will have a big influence on employee health and safety management when they are polished and improved.

1. Digital Interfaces

Since 1980, computers have revolutionized the way we operate, yet the range of hardware and software options has grown exponentially over the years. A few instances of how safety officials now have access to the information earlier only conceivable include the utilization of photographs and videos and the collection of digital signatures, timestamps, and geolocation tags from portable devices.

The benefits of digitalization are numerous. Paper forms are now being overtaken with digital forms filled out on-site with mobile devices, combined with secure cloud storage of data and fast reporting features, which eliminates the need for outdated paper forms and their sluggish and expensive reporting. In addition, this digital platform will make it easy to incorporate all the exciting new technologies that will be launched in the coming years.

2. Wearable Technology

Safety technology isn't just for computers and mobile devices; it can also be worn by your staff to increase productivity while keeping them safe. This industry is fast growing and is expected to expand further in the future years. Here are three examples that have previously been produced and are commercially available:

Exoskeletons

Any sci-fi enthusiast who enjoys movies like Iron Man, The Expanse, or just about any space movie has probably seen something similar. To enhance your strength or avoid damage from repetitive jobs, such as lifting heavy objects, you can wear an exoskeleton.

Despite the reality that this technology is still in its initial stages, we may expect to see a lot more of it as science advances. Exoskeletons are now highly expensive and have certain limits in terms of usability, but if the entertainment industry is any indication, we may anticipate huge things from them shortly.

Location tracking devices

Employees may now wear devices that track their whereabouts and enable them to immediately request assistance. These are incredibly significant for workers who work individually, but they are also useful in an emergency if workers do not make it to the muster place. People in need of help can be identified using location monitoring devices, reducing the number of emergency workers needed to find them. This technology can be provided in the form of a physical device, an app for existing phone devices, or a hybrid of the two.

Vital Sign Monitors

Vital signs can be monitored in dangerous environments using wearable sensors. An early warning system that includes heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen saturation levels allow for early intervention or early medical reaction before the problem becomes more serious. Wearables come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and new technology is continuously being released. In the wearable industry, a newcomer blends textiles with tracking technology — t-shirts that monitor your vital signs. Men's and women's shirts equipped with cardiac and respiratory sensors are generally available on the market.

3. Drones

Drones get a lot of attention and are frequently acquired for amusement purposes. The aerial perspectives they present give spectacular unique perspectives that we aren't used to experiencing. And this shift in viewpoint has resulted in a significant increase in their worth to the health and safety management sector for two key reasons:

· Drones can capture images and videos out of any height or aspect.

· Drones may inspect regions that are dangerous to reach on foot or by vehicle.

4. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

When we talk about artificial intelligence, we usually think of human-like robots & supercomputers such as HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey or Agent Smith from The Matrix — Hollywood is fond of telling us of the threats of AI. The everyday uses of AI, on the other hand, are completely different from what we see on the big screen and are already giving significant value daily.

AI may be found everywhere. Every time you check Google Maps, use face detection to unlock your device, engage with a chatbot on a website, or conduct a Google search, you are interacting with AI.

5. Virtual Reality

Virtual reality may immediately think of video games, and it's also become a tremendous tool for business. Its usefulness derives from replicating situations, which has shown to be highly beneficial for health and safety training in the past couple of years. The use of a VR simulator before utilizing a new type of truck is a good example.

Companies have been using virtual reality to walk inside an oil pipeline to examine it for leaks or degradation. Think the savings in averted calamities! For decades, pilots in training have used simulators to learn how to fly without really stepping foot inside an airplane. Virtual reality now makes this level of instruction available to essentially everyone.

Conclusion

Technology may provide an exciting glimpse into how our lives could be better while also generating concern about how to stay up with and incorporate these improvements into our current workflow. Thinking back over the last several decades, it's difficult to deny that technology has brought many benefits while also posing a new set of challenges. However, as a consequence of increased efficiency, communication, and availability of information, decision-making has become easier and convenient.

From a safety point of view, several really interesting technologies are being developed, and scientific advancements will lead to improvements in general worker health and wellness. Employee safety training, the capacity to decrease the physical toll of repetitious activities, and reduced exposure to hazardous situations will all help us to perform better and more effectively. Most significantly, it should allow us all to return home to our families securely. Perhaps in a flying vehicle.

I' find the idea of Champ just sitting somewhere after quiting his job trying to figure out what to do then 5 minutes later Calamity is holding them up like a puppy to the Sci-5,

They all made up group/Duo names for each other Sterling and Heath are Dancing Duo (Another head cannon that they both like to dance and are good at it) Tayren and Mara are anxiety Duo [They didn't understand the name at first but they both agree it fits] and ect,

Tayren probably stays up late with theorys/research and drinks alot of coffee, energy drinks to stay awake [most likely gets it from the others worlds,] Astra Benny and vasillia all had to physically restrain him from boilling Gatorade with energy. +Bonus if the only reason he allowed them to is becuase Kayla was Dead eye staring him and eventually just let them strap him to a bed.

Mara, Steeling ,Tayren and Heath all have their own bickering group called, Sff, with stands for "Study Fan Fiction" They basically make fanfics about what happening in the sharp gang or of their favorite series/Movies +Bonus Whenever Tayren gets Info about Champ and benny from Vasillia they all listen closely and take Note,

Macey is probably with the Sci-5 becuase Champ stole them, I like to think the clowns at DinocrossPark wanted to see of people could bond with Dinos and obviously Champ got mixed in with it so now he and Macey have a Strong bond.

Vasillia Benny and champ would try that one try not to laugh trend where you have water in your mouth and you can't spit it out or swallow it.

Benny Probably made a Keychain for all the sharp gang members and it represents them.[Sterling having a fire one Tayren a Book, Kayla/Charlie a rollerskate Keychain Ect]

Leading the younger ones of the sharp gang witch includes [Kayla/Charlie Sterling Mara Tayren Alexis maybe some of the B Team] To make and give him a present, SO they all make him a present they think he would like and sneak into his house at night [Kayla and Charlir would probably visited him knowing where he livrs] to leave them on the table as a surprise Anonymously (As a father day present)

BUT Benny is fully aware becuase they are not so sneaky but pretends he dosent know So he will be talking To Astra/Vasillia/Champ about how he was given a bunch of anonymous presents and saying he assumes it's from his past Clients only to hear A few hussed giggles and laughed from behind him making him smile even more.
