See, Eddie had always been bad at flirting if not a disaster at it. And it didn't help when he had a bad habit of going dumb around Steve Harrington—the boy of his dream, the muse of his soul, the sun of his flowers, and the light of his life.
At this point, it was inevitable that whatever he managed to say to Steve always ended up sounding awkward or worse, ominous.
"Why are you staring?" Steve cocked an eyebrow at him, hazel eyes gleaming in amusement.
They were having a movie night at the Munson’s new apartment after holding one at Steve’s just last week.
And as usual, Eddie’s attention was on the other boy, unable to stop gazing at that lovely face.
Sometimes, Eddie still felt like he was hallucinating whenever he hung out with Steve. Because, never in his wildest dream, he would see himself being friends with King Steve.
And yet, against all odds, after surviving Hell together, they had become fast friends and stayed like that for months. These days, Eddie could confidently say that he was Steve's best friend besides Robin.
Then again, he was quite sure Steve wouldn't give him The Moves™️—lips biting, eyes glancing up through lashes, knees squeezing, hips knocking, hands holding—if they were just friends.
So. Flirting.
If only Eddie was all suave and smooth, he bet they would be boyfriends by now, and not whatever that had been going on between them these last few months.
Sorry for staring but your eyes are so beautiful; they’re the most priceless gemstones in the world, sweet candies that I want to possess, a hazel sky that I want to keep drowning in, was all Eddie wanted to say.
But instead, he blurted out. "I wanna lick your eyeballs.”
Horrified, Eddie slapped a hand over his mouth before quickly correcting his grave mistake.
"Wait– I didn't mean that," he flailed his hands around in panic and tried to explain to a wide-eyed Steve. "I meant, I want to keep your eyes to myself– No, that sounds so creepy, oh my god–"
"Hey, hey, it's okay," Steve straightened from his comfy position on the couch and held Eddie's hands gently. "Calm down, Eds. Just take your time. I promise I won't go anywhere."
Eddie nodded, heart beating fast under the attention of those warm and kind doe-eyes.
Eventually, he got a grip on himself and turned his hands so he could lace them with Steve. Theirs were about the same size but always fitted so well together like gloves.
Eddie looked up to meet Steve's patient gaze. He took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly. The success rate was sixty percent, which was enough for him to work with.
"I uhm, like your eyes a lot,” he cleared his throat slightly. “So can I take you on a date tomorrow?"
In a fleeting second, he feared for a rejection. But then, Steve smiled at him, sweet and pretty, and Eddie was done for.
"My shift lasts until four, so you can pick me up then," Steve gave his hands a light squeeze.
Overwhelmed with joy, Eddie pulled the other boy into his lap to kiss him silly.
Later, they moved into Eddie's bedroom to continue their making out session without worrying about being walked in on by Wayne.
He hunched over Steve with those long legs wrapping around his lower back, and kept peppering Steve's face with kisses because he could never have enough of him.
"Should've," a kiss on the forehead. "Done," a kiss on the eyelid. "This," a kiss on the nose. "Sooner," another kiss on the cheek.
Steve giggled and threaded his fingers into Eddie's hair to pull him down into another tender kiss.
When they parted again, they were both blushing and panting.
Eddie had to refrain himself from grinding against Steve, knowing he wouldn't be able to keep his pants on once he succumbed to the siren's call.
Steve didn't share the same sentiments as him, however, when those legs tightened and forced Eddie to scoot in closer, making their clothed erections press into each other.
Even through multiple layers of denim, Eddie still felt the delicious friction that lit him up like wildfire.
"God, you're killing me, sweetheart," Eddie groaned and pecked those pouty lips, red and swollen like sin.
"Haunt me then," Steve whispered and rolled his hips, tempting and alluring. "Make me remember."
Eddie didn't say anything. He didn't need to. He just surrendered himself to the siren's call and got lost in the sweet paradise that was Steve Harrington.
Afterward, as Eddie was stroking Steve's naked back absently, he pressed a kiss on Steve's forehead.
"Think we should take it slow, baby?"
"If that's what you want, Eds," Steve shrugged slightly. Then, in a small voice, he glanced up from where he was pillowing on Eddie's chest. "You'll tell me if I move too fast, 'kay?"
"The last thing I'm gonna complain about is you, baby boy," Eddie snorted and tucked a stray hair behind Steve's ear. "I just wanna hear your opinions about our relationship is all."
This time, it was Steve's turn to snort. "Haven't been on a date yet, and here we're already talking about our relationship."
"Yeah," Eddie chuckled. "We're kinda doing things out of order right now," he gave Steve's forehead another small kiss. "But you were an impatient little thing, sweetheart. Can't imagine what you would've done to me if I hadn't given in earlier."
"Don't pretend like you haven't been desperate to lay your hands on me," Steve rolled his eyes with a quiet huff.
"Keep doing that and you're gonna see how desperate I am, doll face," Eddie said huskily.
"Is that a threat?" Steve raised his eyebrow in challenge, hazel eyes gleaming impishly. "Because it's not working on me, honey."
Eddie's lips stretched into a wide grin and before Steve could taunt him again, he started tickling the other boy.
In the end, Steve had won the tickle war and Eddie had blown him off as a reward.
To no one’s surprise, they managed to go through another round, and by the time they finished, Steve was too out of it to tease Eddie anymore.
The morning after, he had woken up with Steve in his arms.
Once Steve roused, they had made out a bit too long in the bed, exchanged toes-curling handjobs in the bathroom, and had breakfast together with Wayne before leaving for work.
When the time rolled in, Eddie might be a bit too eager to give Steve everything, because he had gone a little overboard for their date night.
But all in all, Steve had enjoyed the dinner Eddie prepared and given him the most legs-shaking blowjob ever when they were watching TV on the couch.
Later that night, having Steve snore blissfully in his arms, Eddie decided that the date was more than a success.

Steve was exhausted from swimming… from everything. From the look of panic on Eddie’s face every time he flirted with Steve. It felt like a slap in the face every time Eddie backpedaled. He tried to tell himself that it was because it was not safe to be out and proud. But it never seemed to sink in. So, as he gets to his house and sees the light on, something they always did whenever he was getting there after them. He just sat in his car.
It was going to be the first time in a long time that he’s had a group of friends over. Spending the night… “Fuck,” he whispered to himself. Thinking of the nail bat under his bed. The machete he bought and secured under the couch in the basement. The fire pokers that he brought out of storage even though they never used the fireplace. The gun he got and hid in the kitchen. The hunting knives that are hidden all over the house. Or the ax and metal bat in the trunk of his car. He thinks about waking up screaming and knows it’s a mistake.
But he’s got a game plan. He cleaned and made sure everything was ready for them. He didn’t get a bunch of sleep but it would be worth it.
Then the door to his house swings open and it’s Jeff waving at him. He gives a little wave back and grabs his bag before getting out of the car. “Hey, thought I heard your car,” Jeff grinned and Steve smiled back. This was definitely a mistake but it didn’t mean he didn’t want them here.
“You mean you could hear anything over the noise they make?” He joked and as he got in, the house was loud. It wasn’t the overwhelming quiet that choked Steve but filled with laughter and yelling.
Jeff threw his arm around Steve and Steve tried not to show how much he loved it. “We were taking 15,” he explains and Steve looks to see them around his kitchen.
The door to the pool was right behind them and he was reminded of how much he wanted to board it up, never to be opened again. “Steve!” The other three cheer breaking him out of his thoughts. And it’s weird like they are actually happy to see him. It’s overwhelming and he glances away. He looks at Jeff but it only makes him realize Steve’s shorter than him. By a few inches even.
“Have you ever thought about playing basketball?” Comes out of his mouth before he can even think about it. Jeff’s brows furrow but Steve doesn’t give him a chance to be offended or anything, “Just because you're tall. I mean, taller than me. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed. But you are- uh tall.” Steve chokes out, feeling like an idiot.
Jeff laughs, “I’m more of a watcher than a player.”
“Kinky,” Gareth and Eddie chorus from their spots on Steve’s island.
Steve can’t help but laugh as Jeff says, “fuck off.”
Steve looks these people over and they seem so much more comfortable than they had all those times before. “Alright, alright, well I’m going to go shower. Which isn’t something you can watch,” he winks at Jeff and gets shoved away with a laugh in response. It makes his heart happy like he could be friends with these people. So, he heads up to the shower.
By the time he’s done with his shower, he’s ready to relax. The hot water made his muscles untense and he remembers his game plan. All he has to do is stay on a separate floor from the others and then everything should be fine. That way he hopefully won't wake anyone up by screaming. He’s more sure of himself as he heads into the kitchen. The boys are back downstairs and Steve opens up his fridge to see the different foods he got in preparation.
He sighs and shuts the door, leaning on the counter of the kitchen. Steve doesn’t understand why food has gotten so hard. Why, even when he’s hungry, he can't picture actually being able to eat anything. He hates how everything seems unappealing. Sure, Jeff’s suggestion for leaving meat out of his diet has helped, but it hasn’t fixed everything. He still doesn’t want to eat even when he knows he should. Especially when the swimming couch is telling him that he’s losing steam. Steve doesn’t want to admit that he’s had more dizzy spells because of the lack of food.
He pushes away from the counter and heads downstairs. Everyone’s listening as Eddie paints the picture. It makes Steve want to stay right there and watch until Eddie runs out of words. It makes him think of his Grandpa or Boppa, which is what Steve had called him. Because Boppa would tell all these stories of his late wife that died giving birth or stories of his time at war. He always wrapped Steve in words until Steve felt safe and Eddie does the same thing. He weaves his words into magic for those around him.
Steve blinks and shakes his head. “I’m going to cook up dinner. Are there any preferences?” He forces himself to say. If he tells them, they’ll rely on him and then he’ll have to make something.
They all look over at him with a smile but it’s Eddie who speaks, “whatever sounds good to you. We’ll eat just about anything.” He grins and Steve nods even if he doesn’t quite believe him.
Jeff sits up straighter, like he’s about to stand, “do you want any help?”
Steve chokes back a yes and shakes his head. “I’ve got it, you guys just keep on going.” He waves his hand dismissively and heads back up.
Then he’s back in front of the fridge. He doesn’t even open the door, just stands there wondering. He wants something to jump out at him, he wants to want food but he just doesn’t. “Hey,” Jeff says and Steve jumps from the fridge. “I know you said you didn’t need help but my character is almost dead and needs to rest.” Steve doesn’t know the game; he doesn’t know if it’s a lie. He just nods and lets Jeff open the fridge doors.
“Okay, does anything sound good?” Jeff questions and Steve shakes his head. He doesn’t feel like he needs to lie to Jeff which is a new feeling. He lies often, sometimes he doesn’t even need to lie, it just comes out anyways. “Okay, how about Chili? I know this good recipe for black bean and lentil chili. My sister loves it,” Jeff offers and Steve grimaces. “Or how about grilled sandwiches? I know this one with avocado, tomato, cheese, and spinach.”
Steve’s stomach doesn’t instantly rebel at the idea of it. “Yeah, okay.” He nods and goes to get out what they needed.
It’s quiet for a little while until Jeff hums, “so how was swimming?”
Steve glances over at him, the knife in his hand pausing. “Fine, nothing worth noting,” He shrugs. The last thing he wants to do is bore them with his hobbies. “Um, so, you guys have a band, right?” At Jeff’s nod, Steve continues, “so what kind of instrument do you play?”
“Bass,” Jeff does a little air guitar using the spatula like it’s the neck of the guitar. “You should come to watch us. We practice in Gareth’s garage.” He grins over at Steve and Steve nods easily. Pathetically clinging onto whatever they throw his way.
“Do you play any instruments?” Jeff asks and Steve thinks about his parents having him play the piano, and how he dropped it just to start a fight. How his parents had gotten him to play it before they started leaving him alone for months at a time. Before his dad was sleeping around so much that Steve's mom felt the need to go with him, to keep an eye on her husband. How at first, they had come to watch him. But eventually, they stopped coming. Steve worked hard to get so good that they’d want to come back, but it never helped. So, Steve stopped playing, he wanted the fight… His parents hadn’t even known he had still been playing.
“I noticed the piano in the main room, do you play?” Jeff asked and Steve gave a jerky nod.
He cleared his throat, “I used to. Not anymore,” He goes back to slicing up the tomato. It was quiet for a moment before Steve cleared his throat, “When do you guys prac-” He started to say.
But Jeff started to apologize at the same time. “Sorry if I-” They went back to silence and Jeff cleared his throat, “I’m sorry if it’s something you don’t want to talk about. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”
Steve finished up the tomatoes, “it’s fine. Uh, no one really knows, I guess. I played for a long- a really long time but-” I was too much of an attention whore to continue. Is what he didn’t say. He just shrugged, “no reason to continue.”
Jeff was quiet for a moment. “Well, I’d love to listen if you wanted to dust off those skills.” He grinned and it looked honest. Steve wanted to hug him he really wanted to hug him but he just smiled. 
He cleared his throat and tried to ignore the tears starting to well up. “Um, yeah it sounds like a plan. If I want to play, I’ll tell you.” Jeff’s smile is blinding and it makes Steve slump a little. They put the sandwiches together before heading down and giving them out.
Steve watched Eddie pick at the vegetables but once Eddie noticed Steve’s gaze, he quickly took a bite. Humming like it was the best thing he’s ever had. It made Steve grin and take a bite of his own. Steve was next to Gareth today, somehow always able to be on the couch with the hidden machete. Not that the guys knew it was there, they probably just noticed how often Steve tended to stick to this couch. They were like that, doing small things Steve normally wouldn’t notice if he wasn’t watching them so closely.
After they finished, they started back up the game. Jeff slipped back in easily. Too easy for his reason to leave, to be the truth. But Steve didn’t mind that Jeff had gone up to help him. Steve sat by Gareth, letting the younger boy show him a few things as they played until 9. At 9, he stood and headed up to his room. Grabbing the walkie and waiting for the first one to speak. One by one they checked in. All but Nancy and Jonathan, who weren’t home yet. Steve pushed back the nerves and said good night before heading back down.
The game was still going strong and Steve enjoyed watching. However, he still found himself falling asleep. Blinking in and out as they play around him. Eventually, Gareth shakes him awake from where he’s leaning against the younger boy. “Mm, sorry,” he mumbles and shifts away.
“It’s all good, it’s just- uh, we were wondering where we can sleep.” Gareth is soft but he sounds awkward. Steve nods and gets to his feet.
“Right,” he nods for them to follow him and they head up and up. The house has 3 guest rooms so with his room they’re covered. He passes his parents' room, leaving it closed like always. He opens each door as he passes and lastly opens the door to his room. “You guys can take a room,” he says and gestures at the opened doors.
“That’s your room,” Eddie points out and Steve straightens.
He raises one eyebrow, daring him to fight him on this. “And? Pick a room, gentlemen.” He states and heads back downstairs.
He gets to the kitchen and pours himself a cup of water as he hears them talking above him. If they refused to take his room, he still wouldn’t sleep up there. They needed at least a floor difference. “Steve,” Eddie hops the last few steps and stops in front of him. “We’re not going to sleep in your room.” He states and Steve huffs, swallowing a large gulp of water.
Then stares dead at Eddie, “Well then no one will. I never sleep in there, so I don’t get the problem.” His voice is slipping into the tone he used around Tommy and Carol but he can’t stop it.
Eddie looks at him, truly looks at him, “why?”
Steve doesn’t break eye contact. “Because I always sleep on the couch when my parents aren’t here.”
“Why?”
Steve’s stare is turning more into a glare, he can feel it. But he doesn’t stop it. “Why can’t I? I’m alone in this house, I can sleep where I want. Are you saying that I can’t sleep-”
“Steve, I’m just wondering why you don’t sleep on a bed. I don’t understand why you’d rather sleep on the couches that are really firm.” Eddie says and his tone says calm, patient.
Steve just shakes his head, “please drop it, Eddie.”
Eddie moves forwards like he’s going to hug Steve but he stops himself. “I will… but I really want you to- um, I hope one day we’ll be close enough you’ll tell me.” He says softly and Steve nods setting down his cup. “Do you want company on the couches?”
Steve blinks and Eddie goes beat red but Steve doesn’t let him get worked up. “Nah, I’m just gonna sleep. Why don’t you go take my bed?” Eddie gives a sharp nod and gives Steve’s shoulder a squeeze before he heads back upstairs. “Night, Eds.”
Eddie looks back and smiles softly, “night, Stevie.”

~ literally writing a newspaper article about it as we speak

Y/N had no idea how it happened, one day she was spending her lunch period with her friends gossiping and the next she found herself spending it drooling over the leader of the Hellfire club, Eddie Munson. Of course, in true teen fashion, her friends had caught her staring at him and had started teasing her about it daily.
Today had been one of those days except Y/N was in a really bad mood, having failed an important math test and all so she was pretty annoyed once she had sat down at their lunch table, even though that shouldn't be an excuse for the shitty thing she did.
After getting her lunch out, she glanced over at the Hellfire table, which her friends noticed and started giggling. "Why don't you take a picture, it'll last longer." "Oh shut up." She replied before taking a bite of her sandwich. Y/N couldn't help but look at him, he was gorgeous and it confused her how her friends couldn't see it.
Not long into the lunch period, the group had started their daily boy talk and judging everyone's crushes. "Well at least I'm not in love with the freak." One of her friends, Susan, laughed with her thumb out at Y/N and igniting a flame she didn't even know was there.
Before Y/N could even comprehend what was happening she was shoving a lunch tray across the table in Susan's lap, covering her in what was barely considered spaghetti. The cafeteria fell silent, even the Hellfire table, and Y/N's face got hot at all the eyes suddenly on her.
"What the hell!?" Susan screamed at her, standing up and looking down at the mess on her front. "I-I'm sorry! I don't know what came over me-" Y/N had tried to explain but Susan cut her off.
"God you are so obsessed with that freak Munson and it's making you fucking crazy!" Susan ran out of the cafeteria just as it erupted in whispers, most trying to figure out what had happened while Y/N was standing there dumbfounded.
Eddie was sure to have heard that and she was too scared to glance in his direction, much less stay in the cafeteria so she ran, ran all the way to the woods behind the football field and cried.
Was it a little ridiculous? Yes. Did she deserve it after spilling Susan's lunch on her? Probably. Was she absolutely modified and planning to run away where no one would find her? Yes.
Y/N had wandered around sobbing quietly to herself before she stumbled into a broad frame, gasping she jumped back to see Eddie fucking Munson. Of course she would find him when she didn't want to see him.
"Sorry," He said, offering her a smile, "I didn't mean to scare you." "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to I was," Y/N tried to say but found her eyes swelling up with tears again and decided that if she tried to finish her thought she'd start bawling again. Eddie took note of this and stepped an inch closer, "Hey you okay? I, uh I saw what happened back there."

Your gaze solely focused on the couple, unknowing to the man on your arm who stared at you the whole time- enamoured by your happiness as another stood in the back isle's, rose in hand they stole from the gardens as they waited for the festivities to start.

Hand ghosting on his arm that he has yet to take notice of. He watches as you bite your lip, pulling at his collar as you trace the seams of his uniform. Eddie lets out a sharp breath of air as he seems your lipstick begin to stain his skin, his mothers hand now tight against his arm as he stares down at it.
Charlotte shakes her hand, Sabrina now walking away to talk to your mother sat in the corner conversing with Tammy's parents. Freddy had finally taken notice of the lack of attention, returning to his wife's side as they stole bites from the cake before the official cutting. When Eddie turns back to see where you went, the bar is empty the door swinging closed as he speedily walks towards the hall only to find it empty both ways. As he begins to walk, a cough has him turning around to find Charlotte taking off her heels as she leans against the wall next to a suit of armour.
"Thought that you two were not together, no feelings right?" she presses, gaze determined as she slips off the last of her heels and begins to walk towards her brother who's shoulders only rise in their tensed form. He shakes himself off as she stands directly in front of him, shaking off his suit as he adjusts his suit-cuffs. "No, still is the case- just worried for my childhood friend is all."
"Alright, then..." Charlotte takes notice as his eyes keep darting back down the hall behind her, hope and hatred bleeding through his eyes as she smirk's, going in for the jab. He hears your laughter filling his ears, the smell of your conditioner flooding his nose as it drifts off with the evening air.

Eddie wasn’t sure what had happened but suddenly Steve was distant. Monday he had bags under his eyes and during Hellfire, he spent it upstairs working on homework he claimed he couldn’t procrastinate. On Tuesday Steve stopped by the table to get a Tupperware container back from Jeff before he disappeared again and he didn’t speak to Eddie once in the few classes they shared. But he did see him talking with a girl that he didn’t know. Jealousy bubbled up but it was not like anything Eddie could do would be enough. It's falling for a straight boy 101. However, the only thing that didn’t change was the short calls after nine.
On Wednesday, Eddie had a plan. And he put it into motion as the bell rang. He'd have a few minutes until he had to be in the next one. “Hey, Steve!” Eddie jogged to meet up with Steve as he exited English. Steve paused, looking back and waiting for him. “Hey,” Eddie said stupidly but it made a small smile appear on Steve’s face. “So, we don’t have school on Friday,” Eddie started and Steve just raised an eyebrow. “We were talking about all meeting up and smoking if you wanted to join us. Well, uh, we were wondering if you wanted to-”
“Host?” Steve offered and while Eddie hadn’t really had a solid train of thought, so, he clung to the offered hand.
He nodded, “Just like hanging out, ya know.”
Steve picked at one of the books in his hand, “if you guys wanted you could just stay the night. Since you’re all already going to be over for Hellfire anyways. Uh-” Steve cut himself off and he looked a little panicked. “Uh, I don’t have any breakfast foods… maybe it’s easier to-”
Eddie threw his arm around Steve, “want to go shopping with me then? After school, we can head over to the store and pick up anything we’d need. We can all pitch in-”
“Money’s not a problem,” Steve waved his hand and he seemed to lean into Eddie. “Sure, yeah, sounds great. You know what they like,” he says softly and Eddie’s heart bursts as Steve looks over at him. Their so close and Eddie’s going to die. “See you after school then,” Steve says softly and ducks from Eddie’s arm, giving him a wiggle of his fingers in goodbye. Eddie needs a second to get his heart to restart.
He forced himself through the rest of the day until he spotted Steve leaning against the van looking so fucking bored. The mean girl inside of Steve crawls out as people give him weird looks. Eddie wants to run over but he forces himself to keep it cool. He didn’t need to scare Steve off just because of the stupid crush.
Steve tried to look unbothered as Eddie reached him. “We can take my car.” He offers and Eddie snickers.
“Why? Do you not like my driving?” He watches Steve’s eyes narrow in the best way. The way that meant he was trying to hold back a bitchy comment. “Come on, why don’t I drive?”
Steve scoffed, “I’m not dying today, come on.” He grabs Eddie’s jacket and pulls him over to the Beamer.
Eddie slips into the passenger seat and leans on his arm to look over at Steve. He was backing out of the parking lot with ease. And while he looked good when he drove Eddie’s van. He looked completely in his element here in his car. Eddie forced himself to snap out of it and he fiddled with Steve’s radio. Steve didn’t even look mad as Eddie fiddled with his stuff.
“So, what are your plans for Thanksgiving?” Eddie asked when the silence seemed to grow awkward. He thinks that maybe if he got used to being alone with Steve, it wouldn’t be so bad. But at this moment he’s used to having others acting as a crutch.
Steve glanced over and shrugged, “I never really celebrated it, to be honest. I think Dustin’s been bothering Claudia, his mom, to let me come over but I’m not really sure.” Steve chuckled, “you’d think I told him that the world was ending when I said I didn’t celebrate it anymore. He started rambling about giving me the best holiday. I think he thinks that he could make this into my favorite holiday if he tried hard enough.”
Eddie smiled as Steve lit up talking about the younger boy. He always lit up when talking about the kids but Dustin was always unique. His whole body lit up when he spoke about the kid. “So, what is your favorite holiday then?” He asked and Steve tensed a little, glancing over at Eddie.
“Come on, you didn’t even let me ask a question. The polite thing to do is switch at the very least,” Steve complained. "Then it's a proper conversation and not an interrogation."
Eddie couldn’t stop the laugh from escaping, “Fine. Hit me with a question, big boy.”
Steve hummed, “what are you doing for Thanksgiving? Are you spending it with Wayne?”
Eddie raised an eyebrow, “wow that was two questions. But I’ll allow it, I suppose. Yeah, me and Wayne usually make a nice breakfast. I can’t cook for shit but I’m getting pretty good at breakfast foods.” Eddie laughs and Steve nods, “It’s nothing special. Afterward, Wayne will go to work because they pay double for it. Then I’ll usually head over to Gareth’s.”
Steve pulls into the parking lot and Eddie turns in his seat to face him, “now, what’s your favorite holiday?”
It makes Steve roll his eyes, “fine. Geez not gonna let it go, I guess.” Steve clears his throat, “I- my family stopped celebrating holidays these past few years honestly. So, I don’t have a favorite or least favorite anymore. But when my Grandpa was around, he’d throw these big parties on the 4th of July.”
“Yeah?” Eddie questioned and Steve got a sad look in his eyes.
“Yeah, it was nice. It um- I was actually born on the 4th, so he’d make a big deal out of it.” Steve admitted and as he turned off the car there was something sad in his eyes.
Eddie reached over and gave his shoulder a squeeze. Steve’s eyes shut until Eddie pulled his hand back, “It sounds fun.” Steve nodded before getting out of the car.
They headed into the store and Steve grabs a basket before looking at Eddie. “So, where to first?” He asks and Eddie grins before leading him further into the store. And Eddie tries his very best to stay focused on the task but he’s never been good in the grocery store. There was always something to stop and look at. Always something that caught his attention and had him veering off to check it out. Normally he always went alone with a list. That way if he got distracted it wouldn’t annoy anyone but himself. However, Steve just glanced over and followed him. Asking why Eddie found it interesting.
Suddenly their basket was full of not just breakfast foods but also weird foods Eddie’s always thought looked weird. Steve even grabbed a dragon fruit. Like anything Eddie thought looked good, was good enough reasoning. It made Eddie’s chest swell and his tongue twist until he couldn’t say a single word. Still, Steve looked over at him with a small smile and grabbed cranberry juice because Eddie rambled about how Grant loved it but Eddie thought it was weird. It made his mouth tingle and Steve explained how he could be allergic, Eddie just shrugged.
“Steve,” a voice broke through the mess that was this trip and Eddie looked back to see an uncomfortable-looking Nancy with her mom, Mike, and a little girl. Nancy’s mom was the one who called out to Steve and Eddie saw Mike roll his eyes, even as he headed closer to Steve like it was an impulse.
“Stevie!” The little girl cheered and wiggled in her mom’s arms until she was put down. Steve easily bent to place the basket on the ground and catch the little girl in his arms.
“Oh my! It’s Holly-berry,” Steve said in a happy tone as he stood and spun her. The little girl giggled and clung to Steve.
He easily held the girl close as the other Wheelers headed over at a much slower pace. “Mrs. Wheeler,” Steve greets and it’s not nearly as happy as it had been for Holly. “Mike,” Steve drawled and got a glare because of it. Then he just gave Nancy a small smile.
“Stevie,” Holly tugged on Steve’s shirt and Steve just huffed a laugh. “Tea party?” She asked and Eddie swore he saw actual regret in Steve’s eyes.
He bounced her to make her laugh again before he said anything. “Sorry, not right now. Maybe another time,” he said and Eddie wondered if it was a lie.
Nancy’s mom glanced over at him from where he stood awkwardly beside Steve. “You’re a Munson, right?” She asked and Nancy glared at her mom for a moment. “I’m Karen Wheeler,” she smiled and Eddie awkwardly shook her hand.
“Eddie,” he says and Steve glances over at him. Then he eyes Karen carefully like he didn’t trust her and it made Eddie grow tense.
Karen doesn’t seem to notice, she just places a hand on Steve’s shoulder, “it’s been so long. We’ve missed having you around.”
Eddie knows he isn’t the only one who notices how uncomfortable Nancy is. Mike looks away like he hates this and Steve just smiles a tense smile. “Well, Mrs. Wheeler, you know you can always call me if you need a babysitter.” Steve shrugs but he doesn’t look at Nancy.
“Please, call me Karen, Steve. I've said it a million times... You know, I still don’t know why you two broke up,” Karen says like it’s normal to bring this up in the middle of an aisle at the grocery store. Her hand is still on Steve, gently rubbing a circle on his shoulder like it was normal. Eddie didn’t like it but Steve wasn’t shrugging it off.
Steve was, instead, smiling. “Well, uh, Karen, it’s because we didn’t work out. Not a big deal,” he bends down, making Karen’s hand slip from his shoulder, and places Holly on the ground. He grabs their basket and glances over at him. “It was great seeing you,” he said softly then did a little sweep with his eyes. “Mike, best behavior, right?” He teases him and goes to walk off but Karen is touching him again.
“What are you boys up to?” She glances at the mess that is in their basket.
Steve clears his throat, and his eyes glance at Karen’s hand. “I’ve got a few people spending a night at mine. So, he’s helping me shop for foods everyone will like.”
Eddie nods, “yep. We should get moving. Bye Wheelers,” then he grabs Steve’s arm, pulling Steve from the others. Steve stumbles a little before righting himself. “We’ve still got to grab bread.” He says to Steve, trying to pull Steve’s attention to him and away from the Wheelers. Steve nods and easily follows after him.
Eddie glances back and Karen had Holly back in her arms, talking with her kids. Both Nancy and Mike looked annoyed at their mom. Eddie looked to Steve who did look a little uncomfortable now that they moved away from them. “Sorry, you had to deal with that.” Eddie offered and Steve glanced over.
He shrugged, “I guess I’m used to it.” Eddie wondered what part he was used to. Being asked about Nancy. Having to talk with the Wheelers even though he’s done with Nancy. People just touching him. Although that might only bother Eddie because he's a jealous little shit.
Steve straightened up and looked over the loaves of bread, “It’s whatever. They’ll always think I broke up with Nancy and it’s fine.”
Eddie’s brow furrowed, “really? But she got with Jonathan right after.”
Steve laughed but it wasn’t happy, “well, I’m the one with the reputation. She’s the innocent girl who dated Steve Harrington, a serial dater. Who would believe that I was the one who got their heart broken?” He didn’t look at Eddie but Eddie desperately wanted to grab and shake him. Tell Steve that he believed. That he saw him. Even through all those walls he had, Eddie saw him. 
“Anything else we need?” Steve questioned, turning towards the checkouts. Eddie shook his head and followed silently. They got their couple of bags before heading out to the car. Eddie headed to the trunk but Steve stopped him. “Uh, it’s full back there.” He said before he opened the back door. He placed his bag inside and gestured for Eddie to do the same. Eddie shoved the bag in and shut the door.
The drive back to the school was quiet this time. Steve’s mind was somewhere else as he pulled into the parking spot next to Eddie’s van. “Right, well, see ya tomorrow,” Steve said awkwardly. Eddie hopped out but before he got into his van he stopped. He turned and knocked on Steve’s window. Steve looked confused as Eddie opened his door. “Eddie?” He questioned and Eddie gestured for him to get up. He did as requested and as soon as he was standing, Eddie pulled him into a hug.
Steve was tense for a moment before he seemed to melt into it just like he had the last time. The time when Steve was so tired he didn’t have those walls and clung onto Eddie. “I’m sorry no one believed you. But I do, I promise that I’m here for you.” He said into Steve’s ear and Steve’s arms wrapped around him tightly. “You’ve got people on your side now, Steve.”
He pulled back and Eddie looked over Steve’s face, seeing a soft brokenness in his eyes. “Right, uh, you do too. I mean, you already did but now you’ve also got me… on your side! Like I’m in your corner,” Steve had a nice blush covering his face and Eddie liked it.
He nodded and took a step back, “right. Good to know pretty boy.” Then, of course, Eddie had to say something so obvious and stupid. It make his heart jump and he laughed, “uh. Yep, we’re friends. Good friends. Good to get that settled. Talk to you later, friend.” He grinned too wide and jumped into his van, starting it up. Steve was getting back into the Beamer as Eddie drove off wanting to scream at his stupidity.

Eddie, begrudgingly: Dustin's older brother is kinda fine :/
I had a craving for best friend's older brother AU so I wrote some but it's not my forte I'm out of ideas so that might be it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Edit: jokes on me I guess

Eddie was about to knock on his freshman friend’s door when there was a loud commotion on the other side and the door opened by itself. A guy, probably around his age, nearly ran into him in his haste to leave the house. He startled, taking Eddie in. And then taking a double take, the way Eddie was used to people doing at the sight of him.
“Who are you?” the guy asked, scrunching his nose and not meeting Eddie’s eyes.
He felt his hackles rise, venom building in his throat and ready to spit. He wasn’t expecting this on a Saturday on his friend’s doorstep, but he guessed this was the kind of town where you just couldn’t wear your battle vest in peace anywhere. His upper lip twitched ready to form a snarl, when suddenly the guy's features softened, a spark of recognition lighting up his eyes.
“Wait. Let me guess. Eddie?”
Eddie faltered, taken aback by the sudden shift in tone. He frowned.
“Yeah?”
The guy's face warmed up with a smile, and Eddie was not ready for that kind of emotional rollercoaster this early in the morning.
“Dustin’s stories do not do you justice,” he says for some reason, eyeing him again. Eddie wants to shrivel up and hide. What the fuck was happening. “He’s waiting for you in the kitchen,” he said, stepping to the side to invite him in. “I have to go to work, so you two be good, okay?” he says before waving a cheery goodbye and closing the door, disappearing just as abruptly as he showed up in front of Eddie. The inside of the house suddenly seemed dull.
Another ray of sunshine peeked from the kitchen, toothy grin and hazelnut curls.
“So you’ve met Steve!” Dustin grinned in place of a greeting.
Eddie gawked at him.
“That,” he pointed at the closed door. The sound of a car leaving the curb tickled his ears. “Was Steve?!”
“The adopted brother Steve? The Star Wars fan Steve? The badass older brother Steve?”
“Yes, all that,” Dustin nodded enthusiastically.
“I thought he was, like, 16!” Eddie flailed and it sounded like a petulant whine even to his ears. He winced.
Dustin frowned at him like he was being stupid. Eddie didn’t like that gaze, but unfortunately at this point, he was getting used to it. His younger friend leaned on the kitchen door frame watching Eddie toe off his shoes.
“He’s 19. What gave you that impression?”
Eddie frowned at his scuffed Reeboks. He nudged them with his toe to line up, looking for an answer.
“The adopted part, I think? He’s almost an adult, who adopts that old?”
He knew he had said the wrong thing as soon as he said it. He looked up at Dustin, whose face twisted uncomfortably.
“Shit, sorry man. I didn’t mean-”
Dusting clicked his tongue impatiently, interrupting him.
“It’s fine. This is an unconventional arrangement,” he said in that way when you heard something repeatedly. “I can tell you more, but after we make that character sheet, okay?”
Eddie nodded, eager to abandon his social faux pas. The Henderson’s were an unconventional unit, and that’s what he loved about them, at least from the stories Dustin shared. The guy was a little freak, just like Eddie, so it checked out his family was just as unconventional. So was Eddie’s after all.
The parallels made him warm up inside, the familiar need to protect his younger friends flaring up.
“Deal,” he nodded, following his friend inside the kitchen, where notebooks and DnD manuals already littered the table.
A couple of hours, two coffees and an unsolved argument about the intricacies of multiclassing later, they decided to take a break and Eddie could finally feast his eyes on the family photos on display. He stood in front of the newest one standing front and centre on the mantle. Steve was smiling shyly to the camera while Claudia Henderson had her arms around his shoulders and Dustin was grinning wide from his other side, hair ruffled by the older boy's hand.
“How long he has been living here?”
Dustin’s head popped out of the kitchen where he was rummaging for snacks.
“About a year. Remember the Starcourt fire?”
“Yeah?” Eddie frowned, taken aback by the seemingly unrelated question.
“Well, he’s been there and-” the boy frowned, fully stepping into the living room and crossing his arms. “Shit, Mom says I shouldn’t be babbling it around. That it’s Steve's story to tell.”
Eddie hummed, cocking his head.
“Your mom is very smart.”
Dustin unwrapped his arms, clenching his hands together.
“I guess I could tell you I mean who are you gonna tell? You just-”
Eddie raised both his hands, stopping him.
“Dude, he interrupted with all the disapproval his drug dealing nonconformist self could muster. “She’s right and that would be breaking your brother’s trust.”
“Uh. Yeah,” Dustin gulped, looking adequately ashamed at proposing the idea. “You’re right., he nodded.
This lasted about half a second because nobody could stop Henderson from being an egocentric know-it-all and since he was wrong he was now going to overcompensate for it. Of that, Eddie could be sure.
“We can go to his workplace and you could ask him!”
Eddie raised his hands again.
“Hold your horses Henderson, we’re not harassing your brother at work.” The boy was actually pouting, the little shit. “I am not that determined to hear it. I’ll just catch him another time I visit.”
That was the wrong thing to say because he wasn’t planning on being a recurring guest initially. Or maybe it was the right thing to say since Dustin positively beamed at the implication.
Maybe it was because the kid’s presence has been a good influence on him as well.
Also, while the story of Steve’s adoption didn’t seem that interesting before, the idea of a mall fire being somehow involved raised questions that were now itching the back of Eddie’s tongue. He had to ask them at some point.

“There’s this guy,” Eddie starts one day during lunch break. 
“Oh-ho,” Gareth murmurs with disdain, the crumbs from his sandwich falling from his lips.
“Not like that,” Eddie glowered at him, slapping against his arm. Even though it was kinda like that. “He’s picking up Henderson after Hellfire today and if we run into him, I want you guys to be civil.”
“We’re always civil,” Jeff frowns at Eddie’s backhanded accusations.
“Yeah, especially when you guys are mooning after Mrs. Wheeler.”
The comment raised a wave of loud protests from his friends.
“I am just saying-”
“You’re just saying that guy is hot and we shouldn’t ogle him?” Gareth, the worst friend he has, raised his eyebrow.
“No, I’m just-”
“You calling dibs, Munson?” John the Traitor, the Backstabber, joined in. Johned in, if you will.
‘No!” Eddie protested, maybe a little too loud. A couple of heads turned but when they saw the ruckus was coming from the freaks table, they quickly lost interest. “He’s the worst. A hunk of jock with stupid hair but!” He rose a finger. “He’s Henderson’s family. And what do we do with family members in Hellfire?”
“Lure in.”
“Lull into a fake sense of security.”
“Cast charm person.”
“Exactly,” he smirked, pointing his finger at each of them in approval. “This case is no different.”
“It feels different,” Gareth murmured under his breath, earning himself another smack on the shoulder.

Eddie wrapped up the session and was giving out experience points to his players when a soft knock interrupted his counting. He frowned at the door.
“Speak ‘friend’ and enter!” he hollered to his sheep’s utter glee. He grinned at them.
Dead silence was all the response he got, so he assumed whatever normie was bugging them got discouraged. But then, Henderson was turning around in his seat, yelling at the door.
“It’s from Lord of the Rings! You know this one!”
There was a shuffle on the other side where apparently, Steve came already to pick up his brother.
“Oh! Um… Melon? Was that it?”
“You may enter!” Eddie commanded with a grin straining at his cheeks. Dustin was doing a good job educating his jock brother, apparently. 
The guy pushed the door open, taking in the table full of teenagers. He waved hesitantly.
“You guys finishing up?”
“I’m handing out points, we need just a few minutes,” Eddie waved his hand. “And it’s Mellon.”
Steve frowned.
“That’s what I said.”
“Sure you did,” Eddie cocked his head condescendingly, ignoring the eyes of Corroded Coffin members staring at him. “Now sit and wait,” he gratuitously offered, snapping his fingers and pointing at a nearby bench, like Henderson’s older brother was some kind of dog.
To his surprise, he nodded shortly and obeyed, sitting down and watching him expectantly. Eddie took it as his cue to proceed. He coughed to gather his sheep's attention and went back to his meticulous calculations.

“That didn’t look like Charm Person to me,” Gareth hissed as soon as the younger members of Hellfire had left.
“Huh? What are you talking about?” Eddie scrunched his eyebrows, throwing him a look while he stuffed his campaign notes into his bag.
“You told us to be nice, but you ordered him around like he was one of the kids,” Jeff pointed out, arms crossing.
“I did not”
“You totally did.”
Eddie’s eyes narrowed as he straightened up.
“What is this? Mutiny? Among my own kin? Ungrateful little herd I had nurtured on my own breast-”
He was interrupted by a cacophony of grossed out noises.
“Spare us the imagery, please.”
Eddie huffed indignantly, closing his bag.
“Then quit yapping. It was a singular lapse of judgement on my part,” he said with finality, throwing his bag over his shoulder. Without looking back, he walked off, hand raised in a goodbye, “Toodles, bitches.”
And he was gone.
Gareth sighed.
“Man, I love Eddie, but sometimes…” John cut himself off, shaking his head. 
“Yeah.”

Eddie’s been on the fence about it for some time now. But the time was ticking and he did say more than once that ‘86 was gonna be his year, so maybe it was time to pocket his ego and make some calls.
Some very, very humiliating calls.
Sighing deeply he imagined himself going to the woods and digging up a deep hole. There he imaginary buried his pride, made a fancy map to find it later, hopefully in time for his graduation, and finally dragged himself back home and in front of his phone. Next to it, he tacked on a list of numbers of all his newest sheepies in case of emergencies. Like Hellfire scheduling.
He sighed once more, slumping dramatically before dialling the first of the numbers. As he listened to the dial tone, he squared his shoulders, decided a more confident pose was in order. He was now a man of action, taking his fate in his own hands. His pride was buried deeply in the darkest corners of the forest and only a courageous-
“Har- Henderson residence, this is Steve speaking.”
Eddie’s mind went blank, completely thrown off. Who was he calling again? What for?
“Hello?”
“Is this how you pick up the phone? Did I get the wrong house? Is this the British Queen?”
“... Eddie? Is that you?”
Busted.
“What gave me away?”
“Ah, only the dramatic nonsensical ramblings.” Steve answered, amusement in his voice. 
“Thank you, I pride myself in those.” No pride! Pride is buried deep in the putrid soil of a forgotten battlefield! “But I’m here for the superior Henderson, please and thank you.” Ah yes, the Charm Person again. Somebody could think Eddie buried his Charisma along with the pride.
“Sorry, Claudia is at work right now.”
Eddie scrunched his nose, confused, the gleeful tilt to the voice in his ear irking him. Then he remembered the mom. A staple in most households.
“Har, har, Steven. The smart one.”
“Please never call him that to his face,” the man said with a resigned sigh.
“There wouldn’t be enough space in the room for both our egos if I did.”
Steve laughed then, softly and genuinely, before calling out for his younger brother.
After a loud rattle, Dustin’s lispy voice finally reached Eddie’s trailer.
“What's up?”  
The man braced himself for what he was about to request.
“I need your help with an assignment.”

The door opened before he could even knock. Again.
“I thought I told you not to inflate his ego.”
“No, you told me not to call him smart. It is merely a by-product of my desperate attempts at graduating,” Eddie shrugged matter-of-factly. “Besides, I don’t respond to the likes of you.” He punctuated his words by seizing the guy up before brushing past him inside the Henderson’s house.
“The likes of- Excuse me?!”
Eddie was skipping towards Dustin’s room.
“Hey big guy I’m here for my tutoring!” he announced himself, standing in the open door to his friend’s room, who quickly beckons him inside. Steve’s heavy steps follow and soon he’s the one standing in the door frame, arms crossed, while Eddie bounces on Dustin’s bed.
“What do you mean the likes of me?” he asks, almost pouting. 
“Mainstream,” offered Dustin, shuffling through stuff on his desk.
“Jocks,” added Eddie, still bouncing with glee, hair following up and down.
“Normies.”
“Pop listeners.”
“Mom friends.”
“Conformists.”
“Okay, I get it!” Steve threw his hands in the air, stopping the list that probably wouldn’t come to an end otherwise. “You’re the cool guys, have fun having your cool stuff,” he huffed angrily, grabbing the doorknob. Before he closed the door he threw one seething glance at Dustin. “Do not. Ask me for snacks,” he hissed before slamming the door shut.
Eddie flipped back on the bed, a wide grin splitting his face.
“Man, your brother is so easy to rile up,” he chuckled gleefully.
“Right?! He’s so bitchy,” Dusting turned around towards him, signature smile in place. Eddie hollered.
“He is!”
Alas, a slap of palms interrupted his delightful trashing around.
“I believe we have some physics to cover?”
Eddie groaned. Right. He didn’t come here to bother the older Henderson. Booo.
