Lying awake at night thinking about how the Howlies would probably have called Bucky 'Mr. America' bc literally everyone could see the mutual attraction except Steve and Bucky themselves

I love that episode in Agent Carter where they meet up with the Howling Commandos, and anytime Thompson spoke they were like, “yeah okay, whatever, what do you think Peggy,”
Seriously, like “no man will ever see you as their equal,”
Then Dum Dum Dugan comes along like “we don’t see Peggy as our equal, she’s way better than us,” and I love it

Okay but like:
The Howlies being out on a mission in the middle of nowhere, walking, and Bucky (who lives and breathes for music and dancing, you can’t change my mind.) starts singing or whistling out of nowhere We’re off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz and all of the others just trying so hard to get him him to shut up or laughing at how inappropriate for the situation it is or saying shit like Nazis not being anything like Wizards. And basically just some Howling Commandos fluff (which they probably didn’t get very often because circumstances).

Masterlist - Join My Taglist!
Requested by @flowers-and-fichte! Hope you enjoy, Novalis, and thanks for the request!
Fandom: Marvel
Summary: Bucky's gotten close with Peggy's best friend, the two bonding over the reckless mavericks they both chose to care so much about. But Steve and Peggy aren't the only couple dancing around each other in this war.
Word Count: 1,396
Category: Fluff, Humor
A/N: I can't believe this is my first time writing for Bucky, lol. Most of the rest of the fandom has been here since Winter Soldier, but better late than never I guess!
Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
I shook my head as I barely managed to put one foot in front of the other, heading through the front door of my favorite dive bar. The Howling Commandos and I had spent many a night here, toasting success or planning our next move, but tonight I was without the rest of my group.
Peggy Carter was going to well and truly kill me, and I needed a night to process that.
She'd been my best friend for just about as long as I could remember; we'd joined SOE together, and somehow managed to end up on General Philips' staff, two of the only women getting as close to combat as we did. We made an excellent team, and normally, I had no complaints. But sometimes she could just be so reckless, flying head first into insane danger, that my heart needed a break lest it burst on the spot.
Tonight had been no exception. Peggy and Steve Rogers, the one and only Captain America, had worked together on a Commandos mission just across enemy lines. We'd been successful, and the two of them together had made an incredible difference in the war effort, but damned if I didn't also rue the day they'd met.
I slumped into a stool at the bar, barely registering my surroundings until someone slid a glass of my favorite drink in front of me. I frowned at it, then turned to my left to see who exactly it had come from.
Sargeant Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers' best friend, stared back at me with a faint smile on his face. He looked almost as tired as I felt.
"You look like you could use this," he said. I huffed.
"Thanks. How'd you know what I liked?"
He just shrugged, his eyes never once leaving mine as I took a drink, the corner of his mouth gently tugging up.
"I usually pay attention to the drink orders of pretty girls."
I snorted so hard a bit of my drink came out of my nose. It burned like hell, so it took me a few moments to recover myself enough to meet Bucky's gaze again. He'd leaned forward a bit, one eyebrow raised, looking a bit concerned.
"You alright there, sweetheart?"
"Yeah, fine. Just wasn't expecting you to hit on me, especially with that lame ass pickup line."
"Lame?" Bucky asked, a hand flying to his heart in mock-outrage. "That hurts."
I just rolled my eyes. "Knock it off, Barnes. We've quite literally been through hell together, I think we're a little past you trying to get my number in a bar."
"Well then how would you suggest I get your number?"
I paused, drink halfway to my lips again, and cut my eyes towards Bucky to let him know how truly ridiculous I thought the question was.
"You already have my number. It's the same one for Peggy and all the Commandos, as long as we're all stationed at the same camp."
Bucky just stared at me for a long moment. I sipped my drink and set it back down on the bar before he finally spoke again.
"Shit."
"Yeah. Nice try though."
Bucky huffed a laugh and took a sip of his own drink, then turned back to me with renewed energy and a bright, charming smile. I held up a hand before he could launch into whatever he was planning to say next.
"Okay Buck, why don't you just tell me what this is about. Because I came in here exausted after dealing with our best friends, and I don't have the energy to coach your rusty ass on how to flirt, if that's what you're trying to practice."
Bucky cleared his throat, deflating a little, but not all the way. He sighed, then set his shoulders and met my stare again with a determined expression.
"Actually, I'm trying to ask you on a date."
I laughed, until I realized Bucky wasn't laughing.
"Wait, are you serious?"
"Very. Although you're really testing my resolve, since you've now laughed in my face twice. You know I used to be good at this before the war?"
I shook my head, a disbelieving smile subconsciously forcing its way onto my face.
"Bucky... I'm not saying no, but... I mean, why? Why me, why now? We've known each other and been working on missions since Steve got you out of that prison... what changed to make you think this was a good idea all of a sudden?"
He sighed heavily, the muscles in his jaw working as he apparently forced the words to come.
"I've been feeling like I wanted to ask you out since I saw you, honestly. But we were going to have to work together, and I think it's pretty clear I'm a little rusty. So I waited, and I was just starting to convince myself to wait all the way to the end of the war, until I tried to get Steve to ask Peggy on a date."
My eyebrows shot up. "You did? How did that go? Those two have been dancing around each other for way too long, I've been trying to tell Peggy the same thing-"
"Well, maybe between the two of us we can actually get them to take the leap. But I realized when I was talking to Steve that I can't expect him to take my advice when I won't take it myself. I'm turning into the biggest hypocrite in the world encouraging him to talk to Peggy while chickening out on talking to you. So... here we are."
"Here we are..." I repeated, my voice a little faint as the full weight of Bucky's confession sank in. He had feelings for me, and apparently had for a while now. And now he was asking me on a date, the fact that we were in the middle of a war be damned.
I grinned.
"Is that a good sign? That looks like a good sign, but now I'm not sure..."
"It's a great sign, Bucky," I said, meeting his eyes and feeling a spark of excitement in my chest. "I'm glad you decided to take your own advice."
"So that's a yes?"
"That's absolutely a yes." Bucky's shoulders finally relaxed, a smile appearing on his face to match my own. "So... when do we do this? Do we call tonight our first date? We're out together, the two of us, at a bar..."
"No. No way," Bucky quickly decided. I raised an eyebrow at him, so he continued. "Tonight's not a date, sweetheart. Even in the middle of a war, I can find a way to make our night on the town something special. A little magical, and definitely just about the two of us. Tonight might be just the two of us, but it's about the two reckless idiots we call friends."
I laughed, then reached for my drink and raised it towards Bucky.
"I'll toast to that. To taking tonight to cope with the people we care about, and putting something on the books for a real night out together soon."
"Hear hear."
Bucky and I shared a smile, then each took a drink. I finished mine off, then sat back in my chair and stared at the man before me.
"So... how do you feel about a game of darts? Person who's not throwing is allowed to distract the other person, but only by relating the most insane shit our friends have done lately. True stories only."
"Bring it on. I've known Steve long enough that nothing's gonna surprise me anymore."
I snorted as the two of us grabbed another round of drinks and headed for the dartboard at the back of the bar.
"Look, Peggy might've gone through a phase of trying to be a proper lady, but she's been making up for it by doing even more ridiculous nonsense lately. Your boy's got nothing on her."
"I guess we'll just have to see about that, won't we?"
Bucky and I shared another smile. The routine was familiar, but now, there was an extra spark attached that hadn't really been there before. Even though tonight wasn't a date, spending time with Bucky felt a little different, now, in a very good way.
Maybe this could be the silver lining I held on to the next time Peggy tried to kill me via heart attack, until the end of the war and beyond.

Hell Bent For Leather Part 3
Tumblr media
Pairing: Bucky Barnes X Reader, Minor Steve Rogers X Natasha Romanov
Summary: Bucky talks to you again to convince you to come back the the clubhouse. But can you trust him?
Tags/Warnings: Biker AU, Paste Abusive Relationships, Dialogue Heavy
A/N: I'm not dead. I did finish this at 3 AM so I make no promises on how good this is.
Chapter 3: All await, engine is ticking over
Bucky had another talk with Steve and Natasha in the morning. After talking with Nat about her possibly still alive, long-lost sister, she finally gave them a name.
Y/N.
The name replayed in his head. He remembers a couple of months prior to him leaving Hydra that Rumlow was throwing that name around. Back then, Bucky did not care about whatever woman Brock was trying to pursue, but now he wished he would have done something. Anything to prevent this mess of a situation from happening.
He wishes he would have shot Rumlow right between the eyes the night that he left.
Both Steve and Bucky agreed that if the woman from the diner was who they thought she was, then Bucky would take her to the clubhouse–if he could convince her. If she were anything like Natasha then she was definitely stubborn, but that was not going to stop him.
Bucky went back to the Maximoffs first, not wanting to go all the way past the motel to the diner if you were not there.
Pietro sat behind the front desk with his feet raised on the desk and flipping a butterfly knife around only stopping when he saw Bucky. He was more than willing to tell him that you had gone to the diner early that morning and were not going to be back until dark.
Bucky was not a patient man–something his ma told him quite often–and was not going to wait until you got back. He needed to talk to you now.
Under any other circumstances, he would have not been this terrified to talk to a woman. James Buchanan Barnes was a smooth talker and could get his way with just about any woman, and damn did he know it. But the more he thought about the situation the more freaked out he was, not even the rumbling of the engine in his motorcycle was enough to calm his nerves.
He sat in the little parking lot in front of the diner for a couple of minutes, mauling over his thoughts.
How would you react?
Was this a good idea?
Could he convince you?
After convincing himself that he could convince almost any woman to do just about anything he wanted–jesus, he sounded like a man whore–he finally got off his bike and went into the diner before he could psych himself out.
Upon entering the door he noticed that you now had a name tag attached to the little retro dress that you had been wearing, neither of which he had not noticed before. He stepped closer to read the name tag.
Y/N.
It could not have been a fucking coincidence he told himself.
He needed to talk to you now but from the way that you were avoiding him, he knew that you definitely did not want to talk to him. Instead of waiting for you to come to him, he sat down at one of the booths in your area, keeping his eyes down on the table until you had to come up to him.
“Why are you here?” You asked him harshly and in a lowered tone.
“I needed to talk to ya.”
You furrowed your eyebrows, “I don’t even know you.”
He took a deep breath, “I’m Bucky Barnes of the Howling Commandos Motorcycle Club.”
Your eyes widened a bit at his name. You looked back at the kitchen before placing your hands down on the table and leaning over, “I'm on the clock.”
“Fine, then I would like a coffee.”
You left his table and returned with a mug and a pot of coffee–who knows how long ago it brewed–and started pouring slowly. Bucky took this as his sign to talk. “Look, I got an offer for you.”
You looked up from the coffee pot with a look in your eyes that he could not pinpoint, uncertainty maybe, but he continued, “You don't have to take it, but I think it will be better than your situation here. The club owns a bar in the next town over and we’re understaffed. You’ll be paid a hell of a lot better there and we can offer you a room at the clubhouse.”
He could see the panic on your face as soon as he mentioned the clubhouse. You placed the coffee pot roughly on the table, for a moment he thought that it would break. “I don't want a room in the clubhouse.” You stated.
“Sit down,” Bucky whispered. This was not going how he planned. “Please.”
You looked back at the kitchen again before deciding to sit down across from him.
“You were a part of Hydra.” He stated bluntly.
“How did-”
He cut you off, “It doesn't matter how I know. You're far enough out to be safe but take the job at the bar and me and my club will protect you.”
There was nervousness in your eyes as you scanned the restaurant. “No, no more clubs.” You said still not looking at him.
Bucky snapped his fingers in front of you on the table to get your attention. “Look at me, sweetheart. We’re nothing like those sick bastards, I know of the horrors that happened there because I’ve also witnessed it first hand. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Howling Commandos from someone or other that strayed from Hydra.” His voice lowered even more when he mentioned Hydra.
He took a deep breath, “If you don’t want the job that’s fine, at least come with me to our territory, you’ll have plenty of job options and I can keep an eye on ya. Please.”
You looked away from him again as you thought about it. He knew what he was saying was a lot to take in at once considering you had just recently left Hydra territory. But he was trying his hardest to convince you that you would be safer with them.
“I’ll take it.” You said, making eye contact with him but there was still nervousness in your voice.
Bucky looked you gently in the eyes and said in all sincerity, “I promise you doll, nothin’ gonna happen to you.”
Before Bucky left the diner he told you that he would meet you at the Maximoff’s after you got off of work before he took you back to the clubhouse. You had asked him how he knew that you were there and he explained to you that they were technically their territory since they were under the Camandos’ protection. And he also mentioned that Pietro had called and said that there was a possible gang member in the area. You had just huffed a small laugh at him and told him to leave before he could have gotten you into trouble.
Bucky had called from the Maximoff’s phone to tell Steve that he was successful and would be bringing you back in a couple of hours.
“Where was she?” Steve had asked.
“Working down at Peggy's old place and stayin' at the Maximoffs.”
“Sharon owns it now, doesn’t she?” Bucky could hear his sigh from the other end of the line.
“Yeah, and you should go talk to her and tell her that we just snatched one of her waitresses.”
Steve scoffed out a laugh, “And ya couldn’t have done it while you were there?”
“I was too busy trying to convince this poor girl that she should come with me to the clubhouse. She was scared out of her mind and probably thought that I was gonna bring her back to that hell hole for steppin’ in our territory.”
Steve ended up hanging up on him after he mentioned that he should have gone to see Sharon a long time ago. Better two years late than never. Steve had scoffed at him again and told him to mind his damn business.
He was sitting in the motel lobby looking at a magazine when you came back. He told you to change your clothes and pack up and he would tell Pietro and Wanda that he was getting you out of their hair. You ended up rolling your eyes at him when you thought that he was no longer looking at you.
Wanda had asked him if that was Natasha’s sister after you left. He questioned the woman and she had just told him that it was intuition. Bucky called her a witch and she shrugged her shoulders and smiled.
You came back to the lobby about fifteen minutes later with wet hair and a small bag. Bucky raised an eye at you before remembering that you were quite literally on the run from Hydra.
He told you to follow behind him on the way to the clubhouse. By now the sun was setting and the look on your face before they had rolled out of the parking lot he could tell that you were tired. Tired of working a double shift or tired of being on the road, he was unsure.
You followed quietly behind him, Bucky had to look back every once in a while to make sure that you were still there. He had made it this far and he did not want to lose you now that he was so close.
By the time you had both made it back to the clubhouse, he could tell that you were barely awake. He offered to take your bag and you did not even put up a fight, just nodded your head and held it out for him.
You followed him into the clubhouse, waking up slightly from the lights and looking around.
He saw the look in your eyes the exact moment you saw her. Your eyes had started to water.
“Natalia?”

Feeling a light in your eyes you groan loudly turning you frown “Oh no…” You manage to open an eye and realize it happened again, your heart sunk as you realized you were not in the hotel room with Dean, but where were you now?
~~~~~~~~
The room you found yourself in was dark, with just a sliver of light coming from above you. But that’s not what scared you. The shouting, gunfire and explosions outside did. It felt like a war zone, or what a war zone in a movie sounded like. You felt around until you found a wall, then you moved until you felt metal and hoped it was a door. With the door handle in hand you take a deep breath and twist it open.
The noise was a lot worse in the hallway. Above you the lights flickered and the building shook. There were two options, stay in the room you were in or walk out and hope to find someone that was willing to help you. After talking yourself into it you step out into the hallway. Another explosion rocks the building. The further down you go the more the chaos comes into view. People were shouting at each other but you couldn’t make out what they were saying. It wasn’t until you were just about to round the corner that you could hear better. They were speaking another language, was that German?
An ungodly shriek was ripped from your lips when a bullet hit the wall beside your head. Some soldiers surrendered while others went down fighting. When the smoke cleared you were left in awe. Standing in front of you in a ‘V’ formation were the Howling Commandos. Captain America was front and center with his shield in one hand and his gun in the other. His eyes landed on you as the last of the enemy soldiers hit the ground. He turned his head and said something before he lowered his weapon.
“Hello, my name is-“
“Steve Rogers.” You cut him off.
Behind his cowl his eyes go wide and he shoots another glance over his shoulder.
“How do you know that?”
“I uh…” you stare at him for a moment. How are you going to explain this situation to him? “It’s kind of complicated.”
“You’re in the middle of an enemy base. You’re either with them or their prisoner. Which one is it?”
“Neither.”
“Doll, we really don’t have time for your mind games here. The people in this building are dangerous. Are you with them or not?” Bucky stepped forward and looked at you.
“No. Absolutely not. I could never.”
“Ok, then why don’t we get you out of here so that you can explain how you got here.” Bucky stretched his hand out for you to take which you did.
He pulled you towards him as he looked you up and down to check for any injuries. Being satisfied he didn’t find any but confused by what you were wearing, Bucky escorted you out.
Outside the smell of gunpowder and blood hangs in the air. There are destroyed cars and tanks all over the place. The building looks like it’s falling apart and the banners that hang on the side of the building are black. The insignia being a red skull and tentacles. You gasp as you take it all in. This is the third place you've been pulled to and you still weren’t used to it happening. The ‘jumping’ was exhausting. It didn’t help that you’re not sure how long you’ve been gone either. Has it been a few hours or a few days?
“Ok, let’s start with the basics. What’s your name and what are you doing here?” Bucky asks. Steve stands beside him and eyes you cautiously. The starry eyed look in your eye throws him off.
“My name is Y/N and I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know?”
You sigh and explain to them how you had gone out to get food and when you walked into the restaurant you were in a different universe. Then you explained how you were getting help and it happened again and then one more and now you were standing in front of them.
“That’s impossible.” Steve shakes his head.
“More impossible that you going from 90 pounds soaking wet to this.” You gesture at his much larger frame. “With the help of the serum that Erskine injected you with. Or the fact that you’re fighting hydra lead by a guy named Red Skull, which by the way is such an unoriginal and stupid name.”
Bucky bites back a smirk.
“How do you know any of that?”
“Because the universe I’m from, you’re comic book and movie characters. All of this is just a story.”
Steve and Bucky look at each other completely confused before they look back at you.
“If it makes you feel any better you two are my favorite.”
“I’m not sure if that does, doll.”
“Well we have to get you out of here. In this universe this is a real war. Do you know when you’ll jump again?” Steve asks softly.
“Unfortunately no, it just happens. That last time it happened, I was sleeping.”
Steve nods as he looks around trying to come up with a plan.
“You’ll have to come with us for the time being. Have you ever been on a motorcycle?”
“Nope.”
“Well it’s your lucky day.” Bucky says as they guide you toward a few motorcycles just outside the base entrance. He throws his leg over his motorcycle and offers you his hand. “Alright, you’re going to have to hold on tight. We’ll be driving for a while and the paths aren’t smooth.” You smile and take his hand before you realize it’s his left hand. The smile you had falters slightly but you move quickly hoping he doesn’t notice.
~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been hours since you found yourself in the middle of Germany in the 1940s. Now you were on the back of a motorcycle hanging on to Steve for dear life. Every so often he would place his hand over yours as a way to keep you calm. They had been sweet, both Steve and Bucky had ensured your comfort even in such a horrible situation. Finally after riding for so long the commandos came to a stop in front of an abandoned cabin. If it were with anyone else you would feel uncomfortable that they’d veered off the main path and into the forest but you felt safe with them.
“We’ll have to camp out here for the night.” Steve says as he helps you off of the motorcycle. “We still have a day's journey before we meet up with our contact. He’ll take you somewhere safer than this place is.”
“And who is he?”
“You’ll meet him soon enough.”
“You mean Howard Stark?” You ask.
Again Steve looks at you bewildered but nods.
“Don’t freak out on me. I just want to know if things here happen the way they do in the movie version.”
“Yeah Stevie don't freak out on her, punk.”
“I’m not freaking out, jerk.”
You smile as you look between them and they stop their bickering to look back at you.
“What?”
“Nothing, you’re just doing the thing.”
“How much do you know about our lives?”
You think and then tell them everything up to them both of them being in the howling commandos. Without knowing how revealing the future could affect them you leave out the things that haven’t happened yet. The nervous glance they gave each other completely escaped you.
“Wow. That is a lot of information. Not all of it is correct though.” Bucky murmurs before he opens the door to the cabin that has been checked out by the other Howlies. He motions for you to walk in first.
“Sorry, again I don’t mean to freak you out. But honestly I’m such a huge fan. You guys are great.”
Steve gives you a small shy smile as he places his shield against the wall. Two Howlies stand guard outside while two start a fire in the chimney.
“We’re going to see if there are any blankets for you but seeing as this place has been abandoned for a while we’re not sure what we’ll find.”
“It’s ok, I appreciate that you’re even accommodating me.”
Bucky winks at you before walking up the stairs with Steve following. The wooden structure creaks under their weight. Without much to do you sit and lean against the wall near Steve’s shield and close your eyes.
****
You woke up suddenly, startled and afraid that you were in some other universe. After wiping the sleep away from your eyes you looked around and were surprised to find that you were still with the Howlies. There was an old tattered blanket draped over you and you knew it must have been Steve or Bucky that had covered you up. As quietly as you can, you get up and peek out of one of the windows. From there you can see Falsworth standing guard, in the rest of the room are the Howlies except for Steve, Bucky and Morita. You wondered if they were all out in watch but then you heard footsteps above you.
Without a second thought you walk quietly up the stairs and toward the end of the ill lit hallway. You open the door thinking you’d find Steve and Bucky trying to sleep but what you see is much more interesting.
Steve has Bucky pinned against the wall, their lips meeting in a frenzied and desperate dance. Hands moving gracefully to remove clothing. You must have stayed there longer than you realized because Bucky pushes Steve away. There’s a panicked look in his eyes when he looks over at you. Steve’s cheeks flush pink when he realizes they’ve been caught.
“I am so sorry.” You whisper before you start closing the door.
Steve holds it open and gently pulls you inside. Behind you Bucky is trying to redress himself.
“Please, you can’t say anything. Our careers would be over, we would get thrown in jail or asylums over this.” Steve held your hands and squeezed. His eyes were full of fear as he looked from you to Bucky.
“What? No I won’t say a word. Your secret is safe with me I promise.”
“Really? Just like that?” Bucky asks cautiously.
“Yes, just like that. Might I remind you I’m from a different universe and different time period. Two men being in love isn’t punishable by jail time or being thrown into an asylum. I mean there are still people that won’t accept it but for the most part you have the freedom to love who you want to.”
Bucky’s eyes soften as he looks at Steve. A sad smile plays on both their lips. A silent understanding that they’ll never get to be together freely passes amongst the three of you.
“I’ll go and give you guys some privacy.”
You smile when you watch them hold hands before you walk out Bucky speaks up.
“Thank you. It feels good that someone knows and doesn’t hate us for it.”
You give them a little wink and shut the door behind you.
~~~~~~~~~~
The following morning after a quick breakfast you find yourself holding on to Bucky while you ride through Germany. At this moment you have to wonder if you’re dreaming or something. Things like this don’t happen in your reality. More importantly you’re still debating on whether to tell them the truth about what’s going to happen in the very near future.
The roar of the motorcycles begins to die down as you make it to a small mostly untouched town. It’s filled with allied soldiers running around. At the end of the road the Howlies all park their bikes at what seems to be a small hotel.
Once everyone is off their bikes they’re met with Colonel Phillips, Howard Stark and Peggy Carter. All eyes were on you but you couldn’t be surprised you stuck out like a sore thumb.
“And who do we have here?” Howard stepped forward first, his hand stretched out in order to shake yours. “Name’s Howard Stark.”
“Y/N.”
“That’s a lovely name.”
“Laying it on a bit thick there aren’t you, Stark?” Bucky walks up and stands beside you.
“Where did you find her?”
The question came from Peggy. Her gaze moved from your feet all the way up as she scrutinized your very existence.
“At a hydra base.” Steve says as he also stands a bit closer to you.
“So she could be the enemy. We have to lock her up.”
“Like hell you will.”
“You’d have to go through me.”
Bucky and Steve both speak up at the same time.
“I’m sorry gentlemen but we can’t let someone that was in a hydra base and we know nothing about, run free.”
“I will take responsibility for her.”
Everyone’s eyes were on Steve.
“I’m sorry but I can’t take your word for it.”
“Seriously?” You speak up. “You have the literal worst track record for not listening to Steve and he’s proved you wrong time and time again dude.”
“Dude? Do I look like a dude to you?”
“Well actua-“ your response is stopped by Bucky’s hand over your mouth.
“Sir if you don’t mind we’ve been out in the field for weeks. We’d really like to clean up and have something to eat.”
“Fine. But she’s staying in your room so that you can keep an eye on her.” Phillips huffs before turning around and stomping away.
“Steve, might I have a word with you?”
“Of course Peggy.” He says before looking over at you and Bucky. “Why don’t you go ahead, I’ll catch up with you.” He sends a small smile your way before following Peggy into what seemed to be the makeshift office.
“I’ve never missed a bed so much in my life.” You mutter as you fling yourself on the full sized bed.
It wasn’t the best thing in the world but sleeping on the floor and then sitting on the back of a motorcycle for two days was taking a toll. You sigh as you close your eyes. Bucky chuckles but moves to lay down beside you.
“So is there someone special that’s worrying about you back home?”
“The only special person waiting for me is whoever answered the phone when I placed my order for takeout.”
Bucky turns his head to look at you with a smile.
“So no special guy or gal?”
“Nope. Just lil old me all on my lonesome.”
“Hhm, seems like the future is full of idiots.” He says, making you smile.
“If I make it back home I’m putting that on a t-shirt.”
Bucky chuckles as the door to the room opens and Steve steps in. You prop yourself up on your elbows and study him. His cheeks are rosy and he has a pout.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing important, just needed to set up some time to prepare for the next missions.”
Bucky sat up and extended his hand toward Steve who took it gently. They smiled at each other and it felt like you were suddenly intruding on a very intimate moment. You tried to move away without being noticed but that was difficult.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“Bathroom. I thought I’d give you some privacy and freshen up.” You say as you walk backwards into the bathroom. They both smirked but let you go.
****
You took a long time in the bathroom. At this point you weren’t sure if it was even ok for you to walk back out into the main room or just stay there for the rest of the evening. A knock on the door startles you out of your thoughts. With a sheepish smile you open the door and Steve chuckles.
“You can come on out. We brought dinner.”
You walk out to find Bucky sitting on the floor with a makeshift picnic waiting.
“Was the bathroom as interesting as you’d thought it’d be, doll?”
“You’d actually be surprised at how different bathrooms are in the future.”
They both chuckle and you sit down. Steve and Bucky give each other knowing glances before Bucky clears his throat.
“Well we wanted to thank you again for last night.”
“There’s no need.”
“But we do. It’s not easy to have to hide how we feel for each other from the world. We actually had a question.” Steve said.
“Ok, what’s the question?”
“In your universe and your time, is it possible that someone can like men and women?”
“Absolutely.”
“So it wouldn’t be weird if I said I wanted to kiss you?” Bucky asks as he shifts closer to you, his hand coming up to cup your cheek.
“Wh-what? What about Steve?”
“Sweetheart, I want to kiss you too.”
“Oh.”
Bucky chuckles as he leans in, his lips brushing up against yours. “So?”
“So?”
“Can I kiss you, doll?”
“Please.”
Bucky smiles into the kiss. His lips soft, the kiss sweet. As much as you can feel him trying to hold back his resolve breaks and he deepens the kiss. You can’t help the moan that escapes you. But it doesn’t last because Bucky pulls away and you turn just in time to have Steve crush his lips to yours. He doesn’t hold back either.
You pull back that dreaded and familiar chill runs down your back. The change in your body language alerts the boys that something’s wrong.
“It’s happening again.” You say frantically.
“What’s happening?”
“I’m going to jump.” you shiver as the sensation gets stronger and you look between Steve and Bucky. Their worried gazes move from you to each other and back. “Whatever happens don’t get on the tr-“
The air shifts around you, a chill runs down your back again and you’re no longer sitting on the floor of a beaten down hotel room in the middle of Germany in the 1940s. The last thing you heard was them calling out your name. This time you feel exhausted. These jumps are draining you and yet again you’re in a universe you don’t recognize. A tear rolls down your cheek as you finally look around to try and figure out where you are.
Most importantly, will you figure out a way to get back?
