Thank you so much! You might have seen an older post. From about 2012-2016 I lived on a narrowboat and moved around nomadically on canals around England. I wasn’t on tumblr much at the time, but sporadically tagged using #i live on a boat Then we bought a house, had a lot of children, and took on more respectable careers and an allotment.

While my nomadic era is over I am still interested in the politics and pressures around travelling lifestyles and I’m still unusually knowledgeable about narrowboats.

I liked living off-grid, being nomadic but still have My House, being in nature, and didn’t mind the physical challenges of everyday life.

I secretly hated moving the boat, which always felt like the most stressful parallel parking you ever tried, and frequently involved me having to do things like jump off a moving boat with a rope 😔 I don’t mind walking a mile to the car to go to work everyday, or hauling wood and water, but I did mind having to jump off moving boats with ropes while Dr Glass piloted the boat and shouted things like “the other left”. This sounds very gendered, and actually he was much better at jumping, except that when I piloted the boat I did not enjoy him jumping off it.

I should clarify that the boats move, like, 4 mph. It is generally considered an excruciatingly slow paced lifestyle. I am just extremely bad at platformers. I have never successfully enjoyed a video game that wanted me to jump onto a platform. Doing this regularly, to get water to live, was something I was happy to walk away from. I hated locks a little bit too. And swing bridges. What it comes down to is that I loved all the boating except for moving the boat much, which is a reasonably self-limiting lifestyle in many respects.

I loved my boat (she was my girl) and the kingfishers and the swans laying their heads in my lap and bringing me their babies to see. I didn’t like the jumping and the stress of the Canal And River Trust never having a coherent policy around liveaboard boaters. That’s a whole thing to unpack but the British have basically made it harder every year to be a legal nomad and it was stressful enough with the jumping.

Bruce: Drifting. As in we're all drifting apart. This was my worry when Dick moved out to Blüdhaven, that we'd see him less and less. And then from there, who knows what would happen?

Jason: oh my god, is it me driving him away? I'm always pestering Dick with annoying questions like "How much do you think your arms weigh? Like if you took them off your body and weighed them separately?"

Tim: *gasp* it could be my fault. The other day, when Dick and I went to the movies, I got a small popcorn to share and he said, "I wish you'd gotten a medium."

Damian: well, I know it's not me. I'm amazing.

My favourite thing about hermitcraft boat boys is Joel casually inserting the obession bit in every episode (I'd say smoothly but Joel's never done anything smoothly in his life) while Etho very awkwardly inserts trying to poorly act out his side of the same bit now and then like a D&D player who just realized they created a pc out of their comfort zone.

Absolutely losing my mind over Scar’s stream today

He was already talking to Etho while catching ocelots

Joel logs in and Scar immediately asks if Etho wants to go visit him

We get so many Etho lore crumbs (although he doesn’t fully confirm anything except having stubble and trying to get rid of 2 extra house generators)

They hang out for like 2 hours doing nothing hut chatting

Eventually Scar leaves but forgot that he left his ocelots at Etho’s because he was so excited about boat boys that he never brought them home

Amity park is a town with an info blackout. They are fed lies regarding the government, the Giw is just apart of the scheme.

When the fentons open the portal. There is fear that citizens will try to leave hence the GIW. They are there to make it seem like they have outside help.

Vlad is fully aware of it. He doesn’t care all he wants is Maddie. The Fenton parents are also aware. They don’t care they just want to hunt ghost. No one expected the Fentons to succeed.

The group planned on doing something with amity. Not to sure what. Something nefarious.

One day Danny overhears this. Him not having the brain cell for the day. Hides in the random persons trunk and leaves amity behind. Literally didn’t tell anyone. Just went for it.

Thus enters a world with hero’s. Dudes shell shocked.

He gets caught up in a fight between a villain and hero actually on accident. Ends up panicking and knocks out said villain.

Hence how he meets a hero and finds out humans are a lot more squishy then ghost. He wasn’t even using his ghostly strength.

He gets help for amity. And whatever the scheme is gets stopped.

i think what i'm most excited about with the live action series is how different it's gonna be.

like, obviously, it's live action, so there's limits on what they can do in terms of the crazier stunts, places, and people. the actors will have their own mannerisms and quirks they'll add to the characters that will make them distinct. it looks like it's gonna be a bit more grounded and less cartoon-y. but most of all, it's just so so so much shorter.

season one looks like it's gonna cover all the way up to loguetown, which was original a little over 100 chapters and 50 episodes, in about ten episodes. that's a lot to cover, and while they're gonna have to cut a lot of stuff, i'm so curious how they'll condense and change the story.

(it makes me wonder, with oda working with them, if it'll resemble oda's original plan for the story, which was gonna be much shorter than it ended up being. though, we won't know that unless oda says something).

it's just going to be so different than the original one piece, and that makes me really excited, cuz it'll kind of be like watching one piece for the first time again.

Heyo, let’s talk about my girl Meryl and why she’s so critical to the plot of Trigun Stampede and Vash in particular! (Well, that’s true for any Trigun, but Tristamp theories are rotting my brain atm.) Some spoilers for Tristamp and vague talk/references to the other series ahoy!

Meryl gets way too many accusations thrown at her for doing nothing/not enough in Tristamp. To the point that I started a rewatch to see if I was misremembering, but absolutely not! Those first three episodes alone, she’s critical to how things develop! She’s a foil to Vash, just like Wolfwood is!! She’s essential to his humanity!!!

But it took until I was watching ‘98 for the first time this weekend for it to crash into me like a freight train exactly what Meryl means, just like it took Trimax for the full weight of Wolfwood to click into place for me. Because she’s set up a lot like her older anime counterpart (though no one gets the same amount of character interaction—Tristamp, I adore you, but please slow down and let these poor folks breathe). She doesn’t understand Vash at first, she even goes so far as to call him a coward in a really low blow for what she easily recognizes as his bravery (and sometimes stupidity) later. And while they both (well, pretty much all the Trigun protags, let’s be honest) share their bullheadedness, I see a lot of people say she’s just like Vash... And I disagree, sorta.

She’s just like Rem. Just look at that last episode.

The two women don’t have the same belief systems, they have wildly different paths, and they come into Vash’s life in incredibly different ways. Meryl may keep Vash in check sometimes, but she’s not a mother figure imo. But they still play a similar role.

After over a century of traveling alone, we see (especially in other versions of Trigun) that Vash is often used and abandoned. Even when he makes genuine friends, they let him drift in and out of their life—and to their credit, he’s good at that! He can’t handle any more pain, so he slips away before the hurt catches up. But not Meryl! She ain’t gonna let that happen!!! At first, yeah, she follows him because of her job, but it never takes her long to go from frustrated and fed up to growing fond of Vash. And I especially love the career shift in Tristamp allowing her a complete out, to walk away and abandon Vash when things get rough, and no one would blame her for it.

But she stays. Because she sees that he’s good and worthy of the love that he denies himself. She sees this vile, hopeless world that they live in through his eyes, and sees the beauty in it too. She’s the first person to have faith in Vash not just as a savior, but as a person—unlike anyone has since Rem.

When all hope is gone, when Vash has lost his way, when he stumbles and falls, Meryl—who starts off doubting him!—is the one there to pick him up and remind him that he’s loved, that his love for humanity isn’t for nothing. Throughout the entire series, she has faith in him. She chooses Vash even when he won’t choose himself. She’s tired and done living in this selfish world of awful people, and she becomes the anchor that ties Vash down to what’s good in humanity. She’s just as critical as Wolfwood in taking a distant, disheartened, and broken Vash and reconnecting him to a world that cast him aside. And we’ve already gotten so much of that in Tristamp. It’s most obvious in the ending, but it’s built up so beautifully imo. She’s not as flashy as our fighters YET, but she’s absolutely essential to Vash, and I will die on this hill. I can’t wait to see her come crashing back into the picture with Milly next season.
