I haven't seen any posts about this yet but l've seen some fan art that makes me feel this needs to be said:
Don't forget Leah Sava Jeffries has darker skin when making Annabeth Chase fan art!
Tumblr media
She is much closer to Lupita Nyong'o than Zoe Kravitz when it comes to shading, reflection, and complementary color usage :).
Lighting for dark skin is different on light skin. Light skin gets changed by lighting, and dark skin reflects the lighting. Below is a lovely shot of Nyong'o's character from Wakanda Forever in mourning. The filmmakers emphasize the umber qualities of her skin in contrast to the funereal white and (arguably harsh) light across her shoulder below.
Tumblr media
Try to pick spots that aren't directly in or near the light, and try mixing 3 or more! You can put it into a color mixer online, or even color pick, lower the opacity, and lay the shades over each other until you find one that fits. And of course, the more 'realistic' you want to go with shading and lighting, the more shades you're going to want to be able to explore vivaciously :D.
Let's take a look at the same 3 beautiful actresses I mentioned at the beginning, with a bad color picked area and a better-ish color picked area. (Please keep in mind, these are not perfect comparisons, as I was not able to find pictures of all 3 actresses under the same kind of lighting.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kravitz's has a clear difference between the two, but they aren't too far apart, in comparison to Nyong’o’s and Jeffries’s. Note the dullness in the poorly picked shades as opposed to the better ones. Also keep in mind that while Kravitz has a rosy undertone (at least in that picture - it’s from The Batman, which has stylized coloring) Nyong’o has a slight cool undertone (I can’t pin down quite what, but the picture is definitely not stylized like Kravitz’s).
Jeffries runs more ochre or russet, but neither of those are pink. They are more red than terracotta or umber, but to call Jeffries’s face rosy would be wrong. Err more towards the golden when drawing her.
Tumblr media
^^saved an image from a writing tutorial long ago, but can’t seem to find it. If someone recognizes it, I’ll link it. EDIT: it’s from this post. Thanks @autumnrowancollector ! <3
And also, the darker skin gets, the less likely warm undertones are going to appear. Don't be afraid to use blue or purple or even green on occasion!
Additionally, cool lighting on dark skin is always a win imo.
Tumblr media
(I was going to use that picture of Jeffries as Annabeth by the lightning bolt, but then I realized the lighting on her face doesn’t quite match up with where it should hit from that angle, and I realized they kind of just turned everything bluer, so screenshot time!)
(Also if you want another really great live action example, check out anything Aldis Hodge is in, like Leverage and Black Adam)(and of course there’s Spiderverse <3 but I want to post pictures of Hodge)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, to here’s a list of more experienced people’s advice:
Black facial features & hair
Shading digitally for a (somewhat) monotone Black character
Stylistic choices and places to start looking for inspiration (besides a search engine).
Coloring Black people’s lips
A better coloration tutorial
Also a nice tutorial for Indigenous skin tones, just in case yall want to draw Piper or use this information for other dark skinned characters :).
EDIT: Some actresses who are closer in skintone to use for Annabeth, provided by the lovely @blackfemmecharacterdependency ! If you can’t find a reference for Jeffries in a specific lighting, maybe check out these ladies’ pictures! It’s a reblog, so scroll down.
TLDR: Don’t make Annabeth pink and pale, make her dark and golden.

Daddy's Boy-Part Three//t.c.
Tumblr media
Information: little bit of angst, and lots of fluff
You kept your phone close at all times that evening after getting home from work. Theo asked about his dad when you picked him up from daycare, when you got home, while you were making dinner, when you were eating dinner together, and he even took a break from playing in his room to ask about him once more.
"He promised he would call, Theo, but he’s working. So you just have to be patient." you had told the anxious three-year-old.
It did feel like ages for you as well as you waited to hear the phone and Timmy's voice on the other end of it. You felt yourself falling for him all over again. You had no way of stopping it, nor did you really want to.
You were beginning to worry that it would be passed Theo's bedtime by the time Timmy called and he would miss talking to his father.
Time dragged on, and bedtime came. Theo was obviously upset that he did not get to talk to his daddy. Meeting him and playing with him the day before was like a whole new beginning for the young boy.
You told your son that you were sorry, but that you were sure Daddy just got caught up with his job.
"What job does Daddy have?" Theo asked as you helped him into bed.
"Well," you decided to tell him the truth, as he would find it out eventually, "he makes movies."
"Like superheroes?"
"Kind of, yeah. Um, he pretends to be other people in movies. It's called acting. Your dad is an actor."
"Wow, that's cool." Theo smiled, "I wish he came to play today."
"You'll see him again soon, I promise. Daddy loves you, bubs." you then kissed your little boy's forehead. "Get some sleep, okay? I'll see you in the morning."
"Okay. Goodnight, Momma."
You watched him turn onto his left side, his long lashes fluttering closed. You were instantly reminded of Timmy sleeping the same way, on the same side, facing you in the bed. He would get comfortable and then pull you into his chest, holding you all night long. You always slept so well when you were with Timmy.
Timmy loved to cuddle, and so did his son. It was so crazy to you how alike they really were, even without being in each other's lives. It was as if they were in sync no matter what.
You left Theo's room, hoping that Timmy would still call. You hoped he would call and make plans to come hang out with his son soon.
But that call never came. You were shocked that you hadn't heard anything from him, not even a text, before you went to bed. He had seemed so eager to talk to Theo again. Your heart sank, thinking that he didn't mean it. Those old feelings of being unwanted came to you as you tossed and turned in your sleep that night.
This is what you wanted to avoid all along. This sadness, this feeling of being alone, none of it was what you wanted for your child.
You decided to invite happy thoughts to your mind. You knew Timmy, he had no malice in his heart. He wouldn't ever hurt anyone on purpose. You were sure that he would have an explanation for tonight.
…..
The next morning, you had a text message from your son’s father:
I am so sorry! Please tell Theo I didn’t mean to miss our call. Just call me when you wake up and I will explain everything.
You didn’t type out a response, you called him, eager to hear what he had to say. You tried to make your disappointment in him subside.
“Hey, I’m sorry about last night.” Timmy answered, “My meetings ran over into the evening and I just got home and crashed. I was so exhausted.”
“Okay, but that’s not an excuse, Timmy.” you did sympathize with him, for sure. He was still extremely new to the parenting thing. But you also wanted to be firm with him, because this was a serious matter, and he needed to really understand that.
“I know it’s not. But can you give me another chance to make it up to you and Theo? Please?” he was really trying, you knew that. He only wanted to make things right.
“Of course you can have another chance. Um, are you busy later today? You can come with me to pick him up from daycare.”
“No, I’m not busy. I’d love to do that!”
“Okay, great. Just send me your address and I’ll pick you up after I get off work?”
“Sounds perfect. I can’t wait to see him. Bye, y/n.”
“Bye, Timmy.”
…….
“So, I talked to Timothée-I mean, your daddy and he said he was so sorry about missing your call last night, but he’s gonna be there with me to pick you up from daycare.” you said to your son as you were ready to walk out of the door together.
"My daddy is gonna pick me up! Yaaay! I so excited!" Theo cheered.
You giggled, "Yep, he's excited to see you too."
The rest of the day was rather uneventful, and then finally it was time to pick Timmy up. He was waiting for you outside his apartment building. He smiled when he saw you pull up.
He opened the passenger side door and hopped into your car. "Hey, how was your day?" he asked. His bubbly demeanor was intact as ever.
"Oh it was good. Kinda boring."
"Same here. Had some phone calls and emails, but nothing major. Did you tell Theo I was coming?" he asked, looking over at you as you put the car in drive and took off.
"Yes, I told him. He was super excited. He even said so." you giggled.
"Good, so he's not upset with me?"
"No. But I think you and I should talk about some things later, like, if you would eventually like to keep him overnight and things like that." You glanced over at him and he nodded immediately.
"Yeah, I'd love that. You're right, we do have a lot to discuss. This is all so new to me still."
"I know it is, and I want to help you with the process as much as I can. I can tell that you really want to be in his life, and I want us to be successful coparents. Theo deserves the best."
"I agree."
.......
You lead the way with Timmy into the gathering of other parents at the daycare center waiting to pick their children up as well.
"Oh, there he is." you nodded ahead, spotting Theo as he sat at a small table with a sweet looking little red-haired girl. You then noticed that Theo was holding hands with the girl.
"What-uh, what's going on there? Why is he holding some girl's hand?" Timmy asked, frowning.
"I think that is Everly, his little girlfriend." you said, looking at his face for a reaction.
Timmy was clearly taken aback, "Girlfriend?!" His voice was rather loud and a few parents glared over at the two of you.
"Keep your voice down, Timmy." you warned him in hushed tones.
"Sorry." he whispered, then returned his voice to a softer, indoor one. "I just don't know how to feel about my three-year-old having a girlfriend.
You laughed, "It's harmless, Timmy. They’re just little kids. And she's sweet. She and Theo play so well together."
Timmy sighed, all serious, "Yeah, well I don't think I had a girlfriend that young."
You shook your head, giggling, "You're ridiculous."
"Okay, parents, you may collect your children!" called out one of the daycare teachers.
Theo was one of the first kids to come out, and he yelled, "Daddy!" as he ran into Timmy's arms.
"Hey buddy!" Timmy sang as he picked up his son into a warm embrace.
You couldn't help but smile at the sight of the two of them. They were like two halves of the same soul. Seeing your son so happy made your heart warm, but seeing Timmy acting so soft and carefree with your child made you melt.
You all went out for pizza because Theo told his daddy that that was his favorite food. Afterwards, they played for hours at home.
For some reason, Theo wanted to bring his basketball hoop into the living room. You said, "Okay, as long as you're careful and don't break anything."
You thought that maybe he wanted you to see him and his dad playing. Like he wanted you to be apart of it too. You could see how delighted Theo was to play with Timmy. He'd never had a male figure to play these games with. He also loved the challenge of someone bigger than him trying to block the hoop when he would shoot the ball.
After playing basketball for awhile, Theo wanted to play with his building blocks, so he and Timmy dragged his big box of blocks into the living area as well. You got a kick out of their antics.
They had built a rather impressive castle together by the time it got dark outside. "And that's where the princess lives." Theo said, pointing to the highest point of the pretend castle. "She has a pet dragon that lives outside the castle."
"Oh, does the dragon protect the princess?" asked Daddy Timothee.
"Yes, it does! He breathe fire at anyone who tries to hurt the princess."
You smiled at how animated your son could be. But he came by it honestly, as he was Timothee Chalamet's offspring.
"Theo tonight is bath night, okay?" you said, reminding him.
"Okay." said the three-year-old. He looked down, disappointed about playtime with dad coming to an end.
........
But Theo's chipper mood returned when Timmy told him he could stay to help him with his bath. Theo put his little shark bathrobe on after dried off and Timmy offered to brush his damp, curly hair.
You sat on the toilet lid, as Timmy kneeled down to his son's height to comb through the tangled locks on his head.
Theo groaned as the brush tugged on his hair.
"Yeah, I know that hurts buddy, I'll be more gentle." Timmy squinted his eyes, as he became more focused on the rats in Theo's hair. He made shorter, slower strokes with the brush, combing throught the curls thoroughly, so Theo wouldn’t feel any pulling.
You realized that Timmy had understood Theo's hair texture better than anyone else ever had because it was the same as his own.
“Okay, all done.” Timmy announced, patting Theo on the head.
You let Timmy put Theo to bed. The little one was actually pretty tired after the long day, and didn’t fight going to bed at all.
You waited for Timmy in the kitchen. You both knew that a discussion was needed.

Tumblr media
“We need to talk.”
Y/N’s eyes widen slightly as she looks up at her boyfriend from her place on the couch, and then a small frown begins to crease into her forehead as she sees the darkness in his green eyes that tells her that whatever this is isn’t good.
“Okay…” she hesitantly replies, sitting up straighter. “Is everything okay?”
No, it’s not, he’s had enough of you and he’s leaving. He’s finally realised he can do better than you, that he is so far out of your league you’re barely a spot in the distance.
“No, it’s not actually,” Soldier Boy replies, confirming to her that her inner monologue is right. He crosses his arms over his chest and stares down at her, making her only grow more and more uncomfortable.
Just get on with it, she begs him silently in her head.
“What’s wrong?” she asks, timidly.
“When I tell you to sit, I mean sit,” he explains.
Only it’s not an explanation at all, and the frown creased into Y/N’s forehead only deepens, as she glances down at the way she’s currently sitting and shifts her weight slightly, wondering what’s wrong with the way she sits and why her boyfriend suddenly has such a big issue with it.
“I don’t get it, Ben,” she admits, still shuffling in her place.
“You hover,” he adds, clearly irritated by the very fact. Y/N licks her lips, opening her mouth to reply, but no sound comes out to begin with, and so she clears her throat and then frowns deeper yet. Now she’s completely lost, because she has no idea what Ben’s talking about. “When I tell you to sit on my face I mean sit not hover,” he concludes.
Y/N’s eyebrows raise, and then a smile begins to curl over her lips, and suddenly she’s giggling to herself. She really thought this was going all wrong, that maybe he was trying to find some ridiculous excuse to break up with her because he didn’t want to just tell her the truth; that he could do better. But now she’s realising it’s got nothing to do with the way she sits on the couch. He’s talking about sex. Of course he is. The thought only makes Y/N giggle harder as the relief floods her entire body.
“What’s so funny?” he asks, frowning himself now that he’s the one that’s confused.
“Jesus, Ben, I thought you were seriously angry, then!” she scoffs, shaking her head and relaxing a little, so glad this was just some joke. Jesus, the guy’s a good actor.
“I am,” he replies stubbornly. But she’s not falling for his teasing any longer.
“Oh c’mon, it’s no big deal,” she brushes him off, laughing again. “Besides, I don’t wanna crush you, I’m hardly lightweight,” she points out, gesturing to her body.
Ben’s frown only deepens at her words, and he huffs a breath, staring her down until the smile has faded a little more from her face, and she starts to second guess if he is only teasing, or if he’s actually mad about this. She’s never known the supe to be a huge joker, so maybe she should consider the fact that he’s actually annoyed.
“Are you seriously mad about this?” she checks, just to be sure.
“Yes,” he confirms with a brief nod of his head. “What’s the matter, you think I can’t handle it?” he challenges.
“Look at me, Ben, I’m not going on magazine covers any time soon,” she scoffs, shaking her head. “Last thing I need is to suffocate the world’s first superhero to death with my fat thighs.”
“You flatter yourself too much,” Ben argues back. “You think that’s all it would take to kill me? You just said so yourself, I’m superhuman, I’m sure I can handle it.”
Suddenly, it all clicks into place, and Y/N realises just why Ben is so upset about this. He thinks that she’s going easy on him, he thinks that she thinks that he can’t handle it. He’s a very proud man, she should’ve known something like this would annoy him. But that doesn’t mean that she can’t point out how ridiculous he’s being. He knows exactly what she thinks about him and his powers. It’s never hurt to call Ben out on his ego trips now and then. She likes to think it keeps him grounded. He does seem a lot more level headed since they started dating.
“Oh, I see,” Y/N smirks slightly, crossing her own arms over her chest. “I’ve bruised your ego,” she points out. “Ben, it’s nothing personal. It’s just all my exes never meant sit when they said sit,” she explains briefly, not seeing the big deal.
“Yeah, well until now you’ve only dated boys,” he counters. That’s when he uncrosses his arms and leans down over her, his hands resting either side of her head as he brings his face closer to hers. “You’re dating a man now, honey, so next time I tell you to sit, I expect you to sit.”
“Yes sir,” she replies sassily, smirking once again before rolling her eyes, but the supe doesn’t smirk back, and she realises he’s once again not messing around. Just the thought actually begins to make her sweat a little. The fact he wants her to stop holding back is quite the turn on. The darkness in his eyes adds to that too, of course. “Next time I’ll sit,” she confirms, with a lot less teasing in her tone.
Soldier Boy reaches up and grabs her chin softly, kissing her lips briefly. “Good girl,” he husks, before walking away, leaving Y/N dazed and flustered.
Tumblr media
Soldier Boy’s POV
The supe is feeling just a little better that evening as he relaxes back on the bed and amuses himself with the Soldier Boy comic books that had been released during his time away. Though, he’s not too fond of the way he gets portrayed sometimes, like he’s a big baby that runs and hides at the first real sign of danger. Maybe that’s added to his stress, because while he’ll never admit it, Y/N had been right that his issue this morning had mainly been an issue because of a bruised ego. Of course it was a little insulting that Y/N might think he can’t handle a woman sitting on his face. When really, he could think of nothing better, especially when it comes to a woman like Y/N.
At the thought of her, he hears her humming quietly to herself under her breath as she emerges from the bathroom in nothing but a towel. She smiles over at him softly when she notices him looking, and then proceeds to head over to her dresser, opening her drawer and pulling out her pyjamas. Ben can’t help but notice they’re the silky ones he likes most, and just the thought of seeing her in them starts to get him going. But the thing that really sets him off is watching her slowly remove her towel, using it to dab herself dry slowly, exposing more and more of her perfect naked body.
He can’t help the soft moan that escapes his lips as he appreciates his view, and Y/N glances his way at the sound.
“What?” she asks coyly.
“You know just what that body of yours does to me, honey,” he hums, unashamedly. Y/N rolls her eyes and turns her back to him, but he doesn’t appreciate the view any less, his eyes dropping to her perfect, full ass and her thick warm thighs, and he imagines his face trapped between them and has to reach down to palm over his thickening cock. “C’mere,” he commands with a soft grunt.
Y/N slowly approaches his side of the bed, still clinging to her towel as she attempts to cover up part of her body with it. The supe is quick to reach out and tear it from her grasp, throwing it to the floor so she’s got nowhere to hide. His eyes rake hungrily over her curves, and he realises it doesn’t matter how many times he sees her, he’ll never grow tired of seeing her.
“Remember what we talked about earlier?” he asks, peeling his eyes off of her body and looking up at her face instead.
“Yeah,” she replies hesitantly, seemingly only growing more timid.
“Good,” the supe grins, shuffling himself further down the bed and throwing his head back. “Then sit.”
“Right now?” she checks.
Soldier Boy only has to turn his head and look at her to prompt her into action as she bites down on her bottom lip and begins to climb onto the bed. He can tell she’s still hesitant, slowly and carefully lifting her leg to begin straddling his body, and the supe grows impatient and grabs her thigh, tugging her down almost forcefully as he makes her squeal and giggle slightly. Instantly, her sex is pressed against his mouth, and Ben wastes no time opening up, extending his tongue to push through her folds as he begins to taste her sweet juices. He hums in delight, feeling the full extent of her weight pressing down on his face, feeling utterly suffocated by her and loving every second of it. This is what he’s been craving.
He laps up every drop she gives him; and she only gives him more and more the longer he toys with her clit, or fucks her opening with his tongue, and while her voice is muffled thanks to the warm, soft flesh of her thighs pressing against his ears, he can still hear her hums and moans of pleasure above him, and he can hear the slight groans and creaks of the mattress and headboard as she holds on for dearlife and rocks her hips to aid him. His arms wrap firmly around her hips, holding her down tighter against him, wanting to struggle to breathe in anything but her and her intoxicating scent, and it works, his cock desperate and throbbing between his legs at the very sensations flooding him.
When he begrudgingly pulls back for air, he turns his head and begins to bite and suck on the soft flesh of her inner thighs, making her gasp for air and tense them either side of his face, only making him feel even more wrapped up in her.
“God you taste so good, baby girl,” he growls against her skin, once again encouraging her pussy back onto his mouth, already missing the sweet tang of her juices.
He feasts on her once more, not stopping until her legs are shaking either side of his head, and she’s trying to speak coherent words, but the only sounds falling from her lips are in broken english and near enough gibberish, until he can feel her walls pulsing inside her, her thigh muscles quivering.
He moans himself as he pushes his way out from underneath her, leaving her on her knees, supported by the headboard she’s still clinging to for dear life, and he’s quick to kneel behind her, pulling out his throbbing erection and finally giving it some of the attention it’s craved. He places one hand on her hip, his fingers digging into the soft, supple flesh, and keeps her in her place as he shuffles a little closer and teases her pussy with the tip of his cock. She moans, rocking her hips back seemingly instinctively, and Soldier Boy wastes no time teasing the two of them for a moment longer.
He thrusts forward, feeling her pussy still pulsating from her orgasm, sucking him in perfectly, and he moans, his eyes beginning to roll as he hones in on the rapid speed of her heartbeat.
“Fuck, honey,” he hums, folding himself over her, “you almost feel as good as you taste.”
He presses his face into the side of her neck, dragging his teeth along her delicate skin, biting and sucking occasionally, knowing how much she loves that as he starts fucking into her from behind, wrapping his one arm around her front to keep her elevated just right. Y/N moans, reaching to hold onto his arm rather than the headboard as she fucks back into him too, her nails digging into his skin everytime he gets deep enough.
“Did that feel good?” he asks breathily against her ear. He can feel her nod, but she clearly can’t reply with words, which only makes him feel even more smug. “Good, so next time I tell you to sit, you better fucking sit,” he growls, his cock throbbing at just the thought of next time.
“Oh fuck,” she gasps out, her eyes fluttering closed. “Whatever you want, baby.”

Flufftober 9 - Homelander
Homelander x Reader
Tumblr media
"It will never work, it's ridiculous."
           "Try them."
           "They'll all recognize me."
"In this old comic, the superhero puts on glasses and nobody notices him on the street."
           "Y/N. This is real life."
           "John. Put on the glasses."
Even though he didn't see the point at all, Homelander sighed as he took the glasses Y/N handed him to put it in front of his eyes. They weren't even sunglasses to be incognito, but simple accessory glasses.
With that, Y/N had more or less ordered him to put on a stupid t-shirt and jeans.
Well, "ordered" might not have been the right word, since no one was ordering the Homelander.
But Y/N was special. The only person in the world who treated him like a human being, who didn't ask him to be perfect all the time, who listened to him with patience and kindness, and who loved him despite everything.
Few people were aware of their relationship, and Vought employees quickly understood that it was necessary to avoid this subject, and to stay away from Y/N, while making sure that she did not miss anything and that she was safe.
"I could put on a real costume, with a mask. That's the point of this silly party."
"One, you hate wearing a mask. Metaphorically and effectively. Second, it wouldn't be funny if you wore a mask, or some other disguise, when you more or less wear one all year round. For Halloween, that's great that you play the role of the normal guy. And finally, I want to have the pleasure of seeing your sweet face."
"Hmm." he growled, trying not to blush.
At first, they had planned to spend the evening in the tower, watching horror movies and eating sweets, away from the crowds.
But Y/N had insisted that they went outside. They hardly ever went out. It was complicated since everyone always recognized him, approaching to claim photos and autographs. Journalists would come to film them.
Everyone would then know that Homelander was dating someone. Who wasn't a sup.
And he didn't want that.
Not because his contract forbade it, or because he was ashamed of Y/N. But because he didn't want people to start criticizing or insulting her. Following her everywhere, asking prying questions and trying to use her to get to him.
It was better if nobody knew anything, and they were very happy like that.
But he could understand that Y/N wanted more. That she can't stand being locked up. He had been locked up for much of his life.
"It's for you too, John." she said, hugging him. He didn't know what he liked more between her hugs and the fact that she was the only one to call him John. "You deserve to have a normal life, outside of your... work. You have to breathe, have fun, without fear of being judged. Tonight is the perfect night. Everyone will be dressed up as you, no one will pay attention to a guy with glasses walking down the street with his girlfriend. We can do a lot of things ! Eat ice cream in the park, have dinner at a restaurant, go to the movies ! Everything you want !"
It was so adorable that Homelander followed her outside. He couldn't deny her anything, even when he thought her ideas were ridiculous and wouldn't work.
Yet, against all odds, no one seemed to notice as they walked down the street.
No one looked at him with wide eyes, a big smile, screaming his name, pointing at him and running towards him excitedly.
And in a way that was a very good thing. That was the point, what they wanted, to have time together outside, undisturbed.
But it disturbed Homelander a lot not to be recognized. Admired. The center of attention.
Even if having Y/N with him should have been enough to fill him with happiness, he didn't like being ignored.
"They don't see me at all."
"Welcome to the life of a normal man, John. People don't look at each other. Only stars are important, actors, singers, sometimes politicians, and of course superheroes. But tonight you are John, a unknown in the crowd, who will quietly enjoy life."
"They don't see me at all." he repeated, looking at everyone with a dark expression. "They might at least have a doubt. Come and ask me if by any chance I won't be The Homelander."
"... That would be very annoying, and we don't want that at all, do we ? We want to have some time to ourselves."
"You don't understand. They should recognize me. Simple glasses shouldn't have that effect."
"So you're not happy my plan is working ?"
"Oh yes, that's great ! My fans only love my costume, I'm so glad I found this. Not only do they don't care who I really am, they don't even memorize my face ! No, that's out of the question ! Hey ! Guys ! Look who's there ?!"
Pulling out his glasses, Homelander began to fly, grinning when the crowd finally turned to him, chanting his name as they admired him as the God he was.
It was much more usual for him to find himself surrounded, giving all these insects what they wanted, letting them approach an important being for once in their miserable existence.
But his sense of joy disappeared when he noticed that Y/N was gone.
He quickly excused himself to fly over the city to find her. It wasn't difficult, because she had simply returned to the tower.
Sitting on the couch in their bedroom, she was watching television, not moving when he joined her.
           "You are angry."
           "I'm not."
And it was the truth. Which wasn't necessarily a good thing.
"... You are disappointed ?" he tried.
"Not really. I should have expected that. I should have known that I would never be enough for you. I thought you would like to breathe a little, get out of the costume, be yourself. I really thought that would be nice if we went outside together for the first time, without anyone bothering us, just you and me, John and Y/N, like a normal couple. But you hate John. You hate normality. You are a little ashamed of me too, even if you refuse to admit it. I truly love you, you know that ? I love John, and I love Homelander. But if you want us to stay locked up here, fine. You just have to say it."
"I... I was stupid, sorry. I panicked. I'm not used to people not looking at me, and it's true that even if their opinion doesn't really matter to me , I appreciate that they adore me. But you are more important. I ruined this evening."
"It doesn't matter." she sighed, still without looking at him.
"It's true. It's true, it doesn't, because we'll have other nights. Your plan is working after all, I can put my jeans and glasses back on whenever I want, and we can go outside like a normal couple."
"You mean in a year, the next Halloween ?"
"No." he said as he approached, resting his forehead against her head. "Whenever you want. As soon as we have free time. I'm going to work on myself, I'm going to get used to not being the center of attention. In any case, just of your attention, which is more than enough. "
"... You promise ?" Y/N asked, finally turning to him, her eyes full of tears and hope.
Deep down, Homelander knew he couldn't really promise that. He had a lot of tough issues to deal with, especially when it came to his popularity.
But for Y/N, he wanted to try. So he told her that he loved her before kissing her, because that was the only honest answer he could give her.

Random thoughts on fatphobia in the MCU fandoms
Namor
Tumblr media
I would have never thought Namor belonged in this discussion but apparently anybody who hasn't chiseled abs isn't "in shape"...
There's a Marvel artist who made a body-shaming post saying that there was a mistake somewhere because that Namor isn't as in shape as he should ne. And I've actually seen several other negative comments about Namor's look and especially this scene and I can't believe how much society and blockbusters has done irreparable damage if you believe for one second there is anything wrong with his body. When I look at this picture I see a good looking actor who's probably going to nail it as Namor, but apparently some people had comments to make about his body. You'd rather see actors who dehydrate themselves and are on the verge of fainting just to have a scene with a six-pack?? Why???
Phastos
Tumblr media
There wasn't too much fatphobia directed at Phastos because he was simply ignored by the fandom....I have never seen something like that. For a fandom that claimed that all they were waiting for representation only to ignore the first and only canon openly Gay superhero in the MCU was unbelievable. And of course, racism plays a major role in this, but so does fatphobia. If I compare it to the Sambucky ship that was still considered "a small ship" in 2016 after Civil War aired, there was still so much more content, fics, Fanart and posts even thought Sam and Bucky had only shared 2 scenes together (that lasted less than a minute). And I'm not putting the blame on fanartists or fic writers for the lack of Phastos content, because they can't create content if the fandom is barely there to begin with. I don't feel like creating content for it either, because the fandom is pretty much dead.
And it's not a problem of screentime because Phastos had as much screentime as the other Eternals characters and him and his husbnad had as much screentime as Sambucky in Civil War, or other popular MCU ships with bigger fandoms and yet...
Thor
Tumblr media
Let me tell you, I may have been the only one in this but when I saw Thor in Endgame, I was happy they had went to a more natural/normal look for a superhero for once... I thought it was realistic (and even though I've never been a fan of fatsuits I didn't mind the storyline) and I loved that they didn't make him lose weight by the end of the movie, but rather showed his journey to finding himself again but that journey wasn't focused on losing weight but finding his worth again, gaining hope,...
So let me tell you how surprised I was when I came to Tumblr, and Twitter after the movie to only see comments about how "they had ruined the character and messed UP all his progress"....interesting to know that some people view a character gaining weight as him being ruined.. And don't get me wrong, I understand being mad at the fat jokes in the movie, and it's important to call that out, but the comments weren't about that.... A lot of people weren't upset about the fat jokes or the fatsuit, but by how Thor looked ... They were very transparent and the reactions just shocked me.

Happy Birthday the super sexy Scottish actress  Michelle Gomez.
Michelle was born as Michelle May Romney Marsham Antonia Gomez in Ayr in 1966, and grew up in Glasgow. Her dad is of Portuguese descent and is from  Montserrat, her mum ran a model agency’ She is one of four children; two older brothers, one of whom is called Derek, and a twin brother who died in.2004.
When she was seven, her parents took her to see Cole Porter’s musical take on the Shrew, Kiss Me, Kate at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow and she was mesmerised by the character Kate, she described it as
“ I was electrified and, of course, I thought they were talking to me. Even then I had an ego running riot. And I loved Kate’s energy, her fieriness. Even at that age, I identified; I thought: ‘Yup, I’m one of her, she’s one of me.”
Michelle attended Shawlands Academy and the junior section of The Scottish Academy of Music and Dance from the age of twelve before going to the adult Academy.
Her first major role was in Irvine Welsh's  Acid House , that’s my pal Gary McCormack with her in the first pic, she went on to make small screen appearances in The Bill and Taggart (two different roles in each) before the very funny and underrated Book Club on channel Four.
Other TV appearances have been in Rebus, Murder in Suburbia and Carrie & Barry before her big break as staff liaison officer Sue White in the Channel 4 comedy Green Wing.
For me Michelle’s best work has been as “Missy” in Dr Who, where she regularly steals scenes. Before the first female Doctor, she was the first female “Master”, one of the Doctors recurring arch enemies.
As well as her roles on this side of the Atlantic Michelle has appeared in Highlander: The Raven the American supernatural television series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, featuring in all 36 episodes, the show got rave reviews but I have not watched it myself, not being a fan of the supernatural horror genre. It was cancelled in July 2020 due to the covid pandemic, I wouldn’t write off it being picked up again in the future, some sources are erroneously saying a series 5 is due soon.
Michelle has been on our screens in The Flight Attendant, series based on the 2018 novel of the same name, it’s on HBO Max in the States, I must admit I’ve not got round to watching it as yet, the show was originally meant to be a mini-series, but a second series was commissioned and it was shown in April this year. It’s not known whether there will be a third series as yet.
Fans of Michelle and the Superhero genre will be pleased that they return to HBO Max in December.
No doubt we will also see her return to Dr Who someday, I certainly hope so. Gomez has been married to actor Jack Davenport since 1st May 2000 they have a son together. Of him she said
“Jack wasn't my type at all. I thought he was too young and too posh and I told him that. Plus, I couldn't deal with his dodgy bowl-cut. But he wore me down”
Of herself Michelle is very modest one saying
“Lots of actresses disappear by the time they're my age. So far, I've bucked the trend. I haven't got sucked into that 26-episode run of something like Casualty. Thankfully, my face has stopped that happening. It's not something you want to see every week on TV! I'm theatrical saffron in that way - just a light sprinkling of me here and there...”
Of her ambitions Michelle says it is to play Mama Rose in Gypsy on stage on Broadway.
“That would be checking every box in my career if I got to play that. That is my biggest ambition! Oh my, I would ROCK THAT! I need to learn how to sing first, but that is just a technicality.”
Happy Birthday Michelle and good luck with getting on stage in Gypsy.

You met Simu the day the Shang-Chi trailer was released, which also happened to be the same day as his birthday. You were having dinner with your friend when you both saw him, and you, being an extreme Marvel fan, freaked out. Your friend didn’t really know who he was, but they did encourage you to go talk to him. He was having dinner with his parents, but they both left to talk to the waiter in the back. Meanwhile, Simu pulled his phone out to keep himself busy.
After a quick breath check, you finally stood up to approach him. Simu must have sensed you walking towards him because he turned off his phone and set it down on the table. The moment he looked up at you, it was as if time stopped and the world around him ceased to exist. You were the only thing in his view and he basked in your beauty. On your end, you thought you could have swooned at any moment by how gorgeous he was up close.
“H-h-hi!” you squeaked nervously. Simu sensed you were nervous so he shifted in his seat so he could face you, but that only increased your nerves. “Umm…are…y-you-”
Simu smiled and chuckled lightly. “Yes, I am Simu Liu.”
You bit your lip in excitement. “Wow, umm, first off, congratulations on the Shang-Chi trailer. It looks so good! I can’t wait to buy tickets to see the movie. I really love Marvel and seeing that you are the first Asian superhero is SO cool!”
You never noticed due to your nervous rambling but Simu’s eyes twinkled the more you talked about Shang-Chi and Marvel. The next thing you say is what caught Simu’s attention.
“Oh and another thing, if it weren’t for you, I probably wouldn’t be pursuing an acting career. I’m kinda in the same position that you were once in. You see, I have always loved acting and always wanted to become an actor. Of course, my parents disapproved of it so to please them, I went to college for business. And let me tell you, I HATED it! My parents finally saw how unhappy I was in college and they finally approved of me pursuing acting. So long story short, thank you for inspiring me to follow my dreams!” As you were catching your breath from your tangent, Simu smiled so big that his cheeks hurt.
“Wow, I’m speechless,” was all that he could conjure up.
“Yeah, I mean…Sure I’m drowning in student debt on top of paying for my acting classes, but hey, hopefully I can pay it off in the future.” Simu awkwardly laughed, causing you to kick your own shin. “Oh my gosh, I’m sorry. I probably should not have shared that information with you.”
“No need for apologies. I’ve been there, too.” His eyes sized you up, studying your features. “By the way, I never got your name.”
Words cannot even describe how embarrassed you are. You were so caught up in your scatterbrained thoughts that you forgot to mention your name. You finally told him your name and followed up with another apology.
“Hey, no apologies necessary.” His bright grin helped ease your nerves as you shook hands. However, it was short lived when his parents returned to the table, followed by a waiter who placed a plate of mochi ice cream with a lit candle on top of the table.
“Oh, I- uhhh, happy birthday! Oh my- I hope I’m not interrupting-“
“No, not at all. Your company has been a pleasure so thank you!” Simu glanced over to his parents who were staring and smiling at you. He then glanced back at you. “Oh by the way, these are my parents.” You extended your hand out to them to shake, but instead they each brought you in for a hug.
You didn’t see but Simu was smiling to himself watching his parents hug you as if they have known you forever. It was odd to him because he had never been this intrigued by anyone this quickly, let alone a fan. And to see his parents react so positively to another woman was something he wasn’t used to. The sound of your voice brought him back to reality.
“Hey, before I head back to my table, can I get a photo with you?”
Simu blinked before flashing another smile. “Yes, of course! Let’s do this!” You handed the phone to Simu’s father before crouching down to his level. This allowed him to snake his arm around your mid back. The feel of his large hand on you sent shivers up your spine while you awkwardly threw up a peace sign. After the photo was taken, you hugged Simu tightly before grabbing your phone from his dad.
“Wow, oh my gosh!” You giggled with a squeal. “Thank you so much, Simu! You literally made my entire night!” You paused and shook your head. “Actually, you made my whole life! I can’t thank you enough. It was so nice meeting you and your family. Happy birthday, too!” You noticed the mochi ice cream starting to melt on the plate before saying your final goodbye to him.
Turning on your heels, you head back to the table you shared with your friend, who was laughing at you with an eyebrow raised.
“What?” you questioned, scrunching your face at your friend.
“You are soooo awkward. But good for you for talking to him all by yourself.”

A few hours have passed since you had your encounter with Simu Liu. After you got back home, showered, and got comfortable in your bed, you decided to post the picture you took with Simu on Instagram. You wrote a long paragraph which was essentially a regurgitation of your conversation with Simu. Without thinking much of it, you tagged Simu in the photo before posting it. After a few minutes of scrolling through your feed, you felt your body falling asleep.
Right as you were about to drift off, an Instagram notification caused your screen to light up. Groaning in irritation, you checked the time and grumbled louder when you realized that it was half past midnight. Your phone buzzed again, skepticism plaguing your brain. You hoped that your friend sent you a meme so funny that you would eventually forgive them for pulling you away from your slumber. However, when you opened Instagram, your heart sank so low to your stomach that you thought you were going to throw up.
You read a DM from Simu Liu that was essentially him asking to be your sugar daddy. In disbelief, you checked the profile to make sure it wasn’t someone trying to impersonate him. After scoping out the profile five more times, you were positive it was him. Your first instinct was to get up and start pacing around your room, debating on if you should answer back.
Maybe he sent it to you on accident. That message could’ve been for another person that he was probably going to send money to. Besides, you weren’t anyone special enough to receive money that he earned himself.
But his message sounded like it was tailored to you. Especially when he brought up how it was a pleasure meeting you at dinner that night and hearing your story sparked something in him. You eventually gave up indulging yourself in your internal dialogue and passed out on your bed.
💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵
The next day, you were opening up the boba shop your family owned when Simu walked through the door. Once you made eye contact with him, you stood in the middle of the shop paralyzed as the mop in your hands slipped out of your grasp and crashed to the floor. Simu’s lips cocked into a smug smirk as you struggled to pick up the mop.
“What a coincidence running into you here.” As strong as your crush was on him, you couldn’t help but be intimidated by him. Especially after receiving that message from him over Instagram.
“Are you stalking me?”
Simu chuckled. “No. I just wanted to get boba and I heard about how great this place was. I wouldn’t have guessed you worked here.” You gave him a tight lipped grin as you returned the mop to the storage room. When you came back, Simu had situated himself at one of the tables.
“I’m starting to think you aren’t here for boba.”
Simu shrugged. “Well, I was. But after seeing you again, I will admit, I’m kinda hurt you didn’t respond to my message-”
“So that message was legit? You, Simu Liu, want to help some ordinary girl like me pay off their college loans? What’s in it for you anyway?”
“Nothing.” You raised an eyebrow in suspicion. “Like I said before, I saw a little of myself in you. If there’s any way I can help you, I will gladly do it. Besides, you are far from ordinary. I can see you becoming a star. Just let me help you out, honey.” That was it. You would have never thought that your celebrity crush giving you a pet name would make you fold so easily. Yet it did.
“Did you just call me-”
“Is that a bad thing?”
“No,” you smiled, cheeks burning hotter than the weather outside. “I liked hearing it.”
“So what do you say, honey? You game?”
You were, in fact, game. You were so game. With that, you shook his hand, sealing a deal that will change your life for better.

2023 Movie Journey #5: Ant-Man
Tumblr media
ant-man. i loved this movie! it’s just an all-around good time, one of the best franchises in the whole mcu (for me, it’s now my second-favorite, after black panther).
and the story of me watching this is a fun one: i bought my ticket to see  quantumania before i had ever seen this one or its sequel, presuming based on the cast and everybody i know liking these movies that i had really zero chance of regretting that choice. i just barely squeezed in these movies after buying the ticket--i watched this the night before going to the theater and then i got up early to squeeze the sequel into my morning before i left to see ant-man 3.
because of that time crunch, though, i didn’t fully review these after watching them. i took notes that look more like stream of consciousness bullet points, and now it’s like a year later and i have to make those make sense! lol. here goes.
first off, the action sequences in this movie were way more dynamic because of how it played with the size shifting, and as somebody who desperately needs a reason to care about action sequences, i enjoyed that. they kept it interesting. on top of that, it had so much heist and warmth and fantasy science that this movie balanced the (for me, excessive) action.
i got a full-blown anxiety stomachache during the big heist, because i liked all of the characters and didn’t want any of them to get hurt. special mention here goes out to ant-thony the flying ant: i loved him as soon as we met him, and i also had an instant fear that he wouldn’t survive. thanks, honey i shrunk the kids, for permanently scarring me emotionally as a child. now i am an adult who is terrified of bugs but also has to let them live in my spaces because i cannot kill them.
scott lang is probably the most sympathetic superhero, though of course that’s subjective. but even though he’s not my favorite (that’s been shuri since black panther), the fact that he only cares about two things in the world when we meet him--and that’s his daughter, and punishing greedy evil rich people and helping those they hurt? just, excellent. this is marvel doing leverage, and i have no complaints.
the graphics of the ants are done really well in this, the cgi wasn’t annoying at all...but they still squick me out. i just don’t like bugs. ant-thony deserved a memorial from scott, though. i didn’t like the feeling that he was replaced by a giant ant pet at the end like all ants are interchangeable. scott had bonded with him! i get that during the action he couldn’t exactly stop and reflect or anything, but either you named your ant friend and you’re genuinely bummed he died, or it’s a punchline and you’ll never think about him again. i prefer the latter.
and like i said, i loved all the characters, but luis’s monologues in the form of attempting to relay important information are the literal best. he is me anytime i try to tell a story. ”i just get excited and stuff.”
my one character exception is the guy played by bobby cannavale, because i just had no use for him, lol. in fact, i didn’t even realize it was him! i kept thinking bobby cannavale’s character looked kind of like bobby cannavale, but not actually like him, through most of the movie--until i was looking something else up and saw his name in the cast. scott’s daughter was great for lots of reasons but her total unimpressedness with bobby cannavale delighted me because i felt the same way.
i thought they handled making scott and hope romantic very well. the actors have good chemistry so i was rooting for them, but the push/pull between  antagonistic and flirty is difficult to do successfully, and they could only move things along so much from her open resentment towards him in the beginning to them being a team by the end. this was too lighthearted a movie to spend much time on Them, so just nodding to it and then making jokes and moving along felt right.
also i loved that anthony mackie was in this. i’m really not familiar with his character, i saw age of ultron but barely remember it, and i double checked--i’ve never seen any other mcu movie sam is in. BUT i do know the actor, from the hate u give and elsewhere and he’s excellent. so he was a cool choice of character to include and it gave me a nice way to see a little more sam.
the end bits were neat, too. i really love that in hope, they created a genuinely strong female character--not always nice, in fact sometimes an asshole...aka a real person just like male characters are allowed to be. so it felt earned when she realized her father was finally going to work with her at the end.
and while i find it annoying, as a mostly non-viewer of mcu movies, to have bits with totally other characters and worlds shoved in after the film is over to weave the worlds together and try and make you care about it all...i adore anytime a movie is like ‘X will return’ because when i enjoyed the movie, it’s like a little concluding gift to promise me more--i was really happy when shang chi did the same.
in the end, my biggest takeaway from this movie is that it is a rare crowd-pleaser. this is one of those movies that, when you’ve managed to avoid watching it for eight years and everybody is eager to tell you how great it is, you can feel a little suspicious of the hype. but it IS that good! as soon as i saw it, i showed it to the one person i knew who hadn’t already seen it, and despite her doubts going in, she also loved it.
so i can recommend this one to almost anybody, and i wish more movies like this still got made, that are lovable for broad audiences. (i get that marvel movies in general make obscene amounts of money, but i certainly don’t care about most of them, so that’s not what i mean. i want more action movies that make an effort to appeal to people besides action fans. clearly it’s possible!)
if you have a serious aversion to ants, i would probably advise you to steer clear. but if you like thievery or dads and daughters or michael douglas or a brisk romp with science, this is a really great movie.

I think a lot of the people who are dismissing Black Adam (2022) just don't respect DtRJ as an actor. They see him as the funny wrestling guy, or dumb comedy man, which isn't really his fault. He's really charismatic and gets typecast because he's perfected that type of character.
He wasn't playing "himself" in this movie. There were so many opportunities for those stupid superhero movie jokes, and they were almost pointedly ignored. He played Teth Adam as the serious, tragic character he was, and I think he did a really good job.
Was it a perfect movie? Of course not. What did you expect? It's a comic book movie, they're not supposed to be modern art. It's action, people! Enjoy it for the genre it is!
That said, I think a lot of love went into the messages of this movie. Oppressed people should have the final say on how they deal with their oppressors. "First world" countries only try to help when their interests are endangered. You don't have to be perfect to be a hero. It was all clear and handled pretty well in my opinion. I'm sure they had to fight to get the story they wanted to be made onto the screen the way it did.
Actually, a lot of love went into this movie, period. Character designs were great, the score was great, the VFX were great, and it seemed like they actually put thought into them. The actors did a great job, and they did really well juggling the larger cast of supporting characters.
Overall, I really liked it, and I think it's sad that people won't give it a chance.

Sorry about this mini-rant but I'm getting so tired of seeing Oliver being the "bad guy". Sure, he does a nice guy role once on a blue moon, but everytime I've tried to get my friends into this gorgeous creature they make comments like: "his playing an arsehole partner AGAIN?!"
I didn't really realise that his been typecast (a lot) until they said it. You should've saw my face when I saw the first episode of Surface haha, I had no idea he would play another "dark" character! Then again, I didn't do my homework on that show.
I would quite like him to do a MCU movie—in that retrospect—just because we'll see a more light hearted side to him (like when filming Malcolm's List). IMAGINE A NON-PERIOD/DARK MOVIE STARRING OJC LASTING LONGER THAN 2 MINUTES! Even if he is eyeing up a villian role, they still aren't that serious in nature compared to his other works (everyone was pleasantly suprised with Jake Gyllenhaal in the Spider-Man movie). I know that not everyone likes those movies, and series', but they are really great for promotion and becoming a bigger star! It would be nice to see Oliver getting recognition (in that retrospect again).
Sorry about the rant, I'm sitting here watching The Lost Daughter again and wondering why the f*ck movies and shows would waste his FULL potential.
hello, so i actually have 5 other inboxes from people about the oliver/mcu discussion that i want to round up in a single post because i realise people have very strong opinions on this and i kind of don't want to clog up everyone's feeds with post after post of me blogging my thoughts about oliver jackson-cohen and superhero movies : )
i get a fair amount of "why does oliver always play an asshole" messages. i don't mind them don't get me wrong! and it's validating to hear that other people want to see more of oliver tbh. i would also love to see him in a leading role playing someone who isn't, to quote oliver, "a toxic piece of shit." like most ollie fans, i would in fact love to see him in any leading role, period.
the good news is that several major reviews for mr. malcolm's list called his performance "a revelation" and said they hoped he'd do more comedy. and he does play the romantic lead in emily which comes out in a few weeks and has very good early buzz. depending on how well its reception is in a couple of weeks at the toronto international film festival premiere, it could even start to get oscar buzz. so even though he is apparently playing yet another toxic partner in wilderness, who knows what the future holds once people see more of his very broad range.
having said that, i think it's important to note that oliver himself does not seem unhappy about or disinterested in "asshole" roles per se. he has said repeatedly that he's picky about his projects, and has found all of his roles that were post-emerald city/the healer personally interesting as an actor/artist because they allow him to explore themes of trauma, identity, power, and toxic masculinity from a variety of angles and intersections - and of course that is okay!
he has also said in recent interviews that he actually doesn't agree that adrian griffin, peter quint, toni in the lost daughter and james ellis in surface are one kind of character. they are all very different people with different backgrounds and motives.
it's also luke crain and michael berryman erasure and those are probably the 2 things he's most known for aside from adrian! : )
finally, of course i also wish there had been more of oliver in the lost daughter but it was a story where the male characters were deliberately in the background/supporting roles in order to centre the female narratives within the film. however, while oliver's role was a hostile thug, he recently said that he originally tried out for the role of jessie buckley's character's husband. . . talk about having dodged the toxic husband bullet!

The Boys: Diabolical thoughts:
Episode 1-
an interesting start! Oddly charming despite the context, I was happy for the laser baby.
Episode 2-
this one was... better than I thought it would be? it reminded me of the Superduper team in the comics, like basically kids with shitty powers, except of course these kids are more cynical and (justifiably) want to get back at their parents for what happened to them. Definitely very funny, really liked the Narrator especially.
Episode 3-
Probably the one I was most looking forward to, written by the original creator of the comics and directed by Giancarlo Volpe. There was no way this one wouldn’t have been awesome, and it definitely was, it felt like it could have been a lost issue of the comic translated into animation form. The characters all looked accurate, Hughie was voiced by the actor who he was modeled off of, the concept felt very true to the universe. Great stuff.
Episode 4-
I don’t have any strong feelings about this one? It was kind of cute, the animation style was nice/aesthetically pleasing, the concept was pretty interesting. Felt like they were going for a dark twist on a romcom.
Episode 5-
Kind of Panty and Stocking vibes if I’m going to be completely honest? Don’t have strong feelings about this one either, I liked that it had the Deep, glad that he got what was coming to him.
Episode 6-
...you know what, I remembered that Nubian Prince was created for the show and meant to be a take on Black Panther (probably put in because he had a popular movie, when while the comic was coming out he would’ve been kind of obscure), and I also remembered that Nubia existed and was this universe’s version of Storm, but I didn’t think they would be married even though their inspirations were once married as well. This one was fun, I really liked Groundhawk, perfectly voiced by John DiMaggio.
Episode 7-
this one. wow. I don’t even know what to say about it? it looked beautiful, it was tragic, it made sense for the universe, it definitely fit the medium of animation (like you couldn’t tell this story in live-action probably, or at least couldn’t tell it as well as they did here) and I just really loved it. Exactly as good as everyone said it was.
Episode 8-
so I guess this episode implies that Black Noir isn’t a clone of Homelander, as is the case in the comics? Like maybe it’s the other way around, and Homelander is the clone? But anyway, this episode was really interesting, and I gladly would have taken a whole episode just focusing on Homelander’s flashbacks to his growing up, or maybe also a “Trinity” episode with young Homelander, Black Noir, and Maeve teaming up for the first time as the soon-to-be-formed Seven’s Big Three superheroes. gosh. would have taken a Maeve episode in general, really. Regardless, I think Homelander is a great character even if he’s a terrible person, and I liked seeing younger versions of him and Stillwell especially.

Feathers Reacts: Motorcity - Episode 14 - Like Father, Like Daughter
Ohhhh yess here comes Julie + angst. I know it from the title, and I am so ready.
Episode 14 Thoughts:
Dutch: Kane! Ooh, if I had him here . . . Mike: Oh yeah? Go on, I wanna hear this. What would you do to Kane if you had him in your hands right now? >:) Ohhhh Mike, you've expertly distracted Dutch from his frustration with Texas, but this is a side of you I don't think we've seen before. Actively relishing in violent fantasies, while possibly cathartic in certain circumstances, is not something I expected you to encourage.
And how violent they are! Behold Texas's mildly horrifying fantasy of piñata Kane with his candy-filled guts exploded all over the place. Um.
Tumblr media
And now we get a little Burners version of the superhero team shot, perfect!
Mike: staff (with plasma chainsaws?) Julie: plasma boomerang Chuck: plasma slingshot attached to his arm? Texas: gun-chucks, of course Dutch: a gun, I think? sci-fi gun, for sure, but just a gun
Tumblr media
JULIE ACTION SHOT! YEAH!!
I know that cars=freedom is the whole premise of the show, but it still cracks me up a little bit. Car burnings. XD
Julie with the lethally cute puppy-dog eyes :)
Tumblr media
Aaaaaand Kane is not immune.
Tumblr media
I love that we get the comedy trope of "cartoonishly evil villain is a loving father," but it's being played straight by leaning into the perspective of the villain's child - so it becomes much more drama than comedy.
Julie flopping on the bed is a whole Mood
Tumblr media
Mike: Nice duds. Red: New tailor. Goes by the name of . . . Kane. Mike: Sorry to hear that. :) You never struck me as a chump! The writers for this show have such a particular tone, or maybe its the voice actors imbuing the lines with a fun bouncy cadence - whatever it is, I love this so much.
Texas: Knock me out once, shame on you! Knock me out twice, shame on me! Knock me out three times, I BRING MY CAR!
Tooley is clutching his Kane doll and watching cartoons about caring father-son relationships. Um. Please don't make me think too hard about this, please don't make me think about how Tooley is an obviously inferior replacement for Mike (and he knows it), please don't make me start having emotions about the joke character oh goddammit what have I done??
Tumblr media
Kane asking Julie "You think I'm a monster, don't you?" came way out of left field for me. I'm pretty sure he doesn't know how much Julie despises the way he runs things, right? It doesn't seem like she's ever pushed back against him before, so how would he know? Maybe he's using exaggerated language because he's trying to get Julie to deny it? I think that's something that people often do to manipulate others - center their own hurt, play the victim. On the other hand, maybe he truly interprets even the mildest criticism as utter betrayal?
The Burners sure are attached to these cars! If the cars got burned up, it's not like they're in a worse position than they were the moments before they found it. But wait, the cars are metaphorical freedom. XD
Behold Mike "I am going to run straight towards a speeding car" Chilton
Tumblr media
If Kane wants Julie to be his successor . . . then worst-case-scenario all they've got to do is wait him out, yeah?
Julie's intense emotional response to the notion that she could be anything like her father is totally understandable, but - the safe play here would be to go along with his plans, right?
AAAAAHHH Kane is not dumb, if Julie's feeding information to the Burners right behind his back there's no way he won't figure this out oh geez oh geez oh geez
. . . And given some time to think about it, Julie is ready-set-go for plan: inherit the dictatorship in order to dismantle it. Beautiful.
Tumblr media
Concluding Thoughts:
So Red is working with Kane now? His anger towards Mike always seemed a little misdirected, but actively joining the guy who supposedly ordered his home destroyed and set him off on this little revenge quest to begin with?? What is up with this guy???
I love Julie so dang much, you guys.
The word both Kane and Mike used to describe her, which she uses in her head to compare herself to her father, is "intense." But that's not precise enough, I think - I can't find the right word. It's almost "ruthless," but it's not as though Julie never has regrets. It's just that for a cause she believes in, she can get over them.
Kane is a bit of a mystery to me here. I don't understand why he would continue to indulge Julie with the father-daughter bonding day if he had such serious doubts regarding her loyalty, so I think I'm gonna interpret his comments about Julie "believing he's a monster" as part of 1) his incredibly short temper, and 2) an exaggeration from his perspective, meant to elicit denial and apology from Julie.
One moment he's screaming at her, the next moment he's calling her Julie-bear. He obviously has affection for her - loves her, even. But like many villains, his love is wholly possessive in nature. The minute he can't control Julie, she's completely within reason to doubt that his love will endure. :(

I finally got to see Thor: Love and Thunder last night! Here are my thoughts: ***SPOILERS AHEAD***
It was a really good movie! I really enjoyed it! I genuinely think it is the funniest marvel movie ever made, as I was laughing through the whole thing. Taika absolutely knocked it out of the park. Of course, I don't think I enjoyed it as much as Ragnarok, but that was a pretty hard movie to beat.
That being said, I was also a bit underwhelmed by the plot. It was very simple, with no twists or surprises, which isn't really Marvel standard these days. Now, that being said, maybe that is a good thing for Marvel. So many of their recent projects have been such huge stories to tell, with 15 different sub plots going on and plenty of surprise twists or celebrity cameos. While I absolutely love those movies, it is good to know Marvel can still make a basic (relative to their other projects) movie, and make it entertaining to watch.
All of that aside, my absolute favourite part of this movie? Matt Damon reprising his role as the Loki actor in the Asgard plays. When I say I cackled when he came on screen. I was absolutely not expecting it, but man was that a brilliant decision. That whole scene was so hilarious, and a beautiful callback to Ragnarok.
Speaking of that scene, as soon as the actor playing Hela came out (which, by the way, Melissa McCarthy was the perfect choice omg), I immediately recognized that they were playing off of one of my all time favourite YouTube videos, Thor 4D. I can't believe they used that! And they did it so well! If you haven't seen Thor 4D, it's a segment that James Cordon did on his talk show right when Ragnarok was coming out, where he got the actual actors from the movie to act out a very low-budget, discount version of the movie, and it is one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. I remember watching that YouTube video right when it came out, thinking it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen, and immediately showing it to everyone I know. I have since watched it a ridiculous number of times, and it is still funny every time. In fact, I actually have it saved on my private playlist called "Videos I have watched too many times". So, to see this random little YouTube video, which was joking about the MCU, has now become canon in the MCU? *chef's kiss* Obviously, I don't know for sure that this was Taika's intention for this scene, but it just so closely resembles it that it had to be a conscious decision. I mean, the way Thor's hammer slowly travels over to Hela, and the way she crushes it? Exactly the same. Yep... this was the best part of the movie for me. Amazing.
Aside from this, I don't really have a lot of thoughts on the movie. It was a pretty simple plot, and it got the job done. I do have one major complaint and one major compliment, however. Both of them are related to Jane's cancer. My complaint, which my friend and I were both a bit peeved about after watching this movie, is that Jane had Stage 4 cancer for 6 months and was going through chemotherapy, but still had all her hair. What? Imagine how amazing it would have been for cancer awareness if Jane had shaved her head! Imagine all the kids going to watch this movie who have caner, or know someone who has cancer and had to shave their head, seeing a superhero going through their same battle. That would have been great. But no, having her be bald was just... to much? I guess? Maybe Natalie Portman just didn't want to shave but I mean... look at 11 in this season of stranger things! There are good short hair wigs nowadays! And good bald caps! They could have done something. My big compliment, however, is that Jane made it into Valhalla. Earlier in the film they made it abundantly clear that a person must die IN the battle to make it into Valhalla. Sif wouldn't have made it in, because she was dying from complications AFTER the battle had ended. Since we saw Jane die after the battle had ended, this means she made it into Valhalla because she was actively battling cancer. I think that is a really beautiful message for this movie to give, that all people fighting cancer are brave warriors. That was really touching.
One other thing that I thought was really cute is that they cast Chris Hemsworth's daughter to play Thor's (adopted) daughter! I can't imagine how much fun they must have had working together.
Anyways, those are my main thoughts on the film! Aside from some questions that are now raised, like what movie were they setting up with that post credit scene? Who's going to be fighting Hercules? The guardians? The eternals? I'm really not sure where they are going with that one. Another question being whY DID THEY CUT OUT THAT SCENE WITH VALKYRIE LICKING THE SWORD? HUH? Absolutely criminal. How dare they. I'm also a bit bummed we didn't get a Loki appearance, but not really surprised. I know they didn't want to use him because he's so popular and it would just be fanservice.... but I am that fan! I want my service! At least show the OG Loki in the scene in Valhalla? Please? I was really hoping the Loki variant and Sylvie would make at least a short appearance, but oh well. Now we just have to hope that they make Loki season 2 better than the first one, with much less self-cest.
Okie dokie. That's my sort of unhinged review of Thor: Love and Thunder. That was kind of the last of the upcoming Marvel projects I was really excited for (aside from Ms. Marvel which I am absolutely LOVING! IT'S SO GOOD!!!), so I'm hoping the next projects will pleasantly surprise me. I'm not particularly excited for She-Hulk or the next Black Panther (I really don't see how they can do it without Chadwick). I guess I'm excited for the next Ant-Man, but only because I love Paul Rudd. The last Ant-Man was pretty average. And I really don't know much about the other upcoming projects.
That's all for now! I'll leave you with my favourite line from the film: "Go to hell, Demon" - Thor's adopted daughter to Thor, upon him making her pancakes.

Lightyear
CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Tumblr media
To Infinity and Beyond!
It’s time to travel back to when Buzz Lightyear wasn’t just another toy on the shelf ended up sparking Andy’s curious young imagination. after Andy had gone through his cowboy phase, he found a new toy, a space astronaut in a green and white space suit that Andy called “BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!”
Lightyear follows Buzz, a man beyond the toy. The man, with the help of a team went into space and accidentally time travelled to a world full of futuristic beings, with the help of the grand daughter of his Commander, Buzz and the hopeful misfit trainees attempt to save not only themselves but their community.
Unlike Toy Story, this Buzz Lightyear is voiced by Chris Evans; the man known for his superhero charisma.
I will admit that Chris Evans voicing Buzz wasn’t on my list. though as others have pointed out, There is Patrick Warburton’s Buzz Lightyear; Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins and of course, the version we have all grown to love, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story franchise. Three versions of Buzz, all based in different variants.
As someone whose curious about voice actors, I do know that sometimes toys aren’t always voiced by those that play them on the screen.
I know in my trailer reaction I vocally denounced this movie. To me, it felt like they had ripped the mystery/not mystery of Buzz Lightyear. I personally felt like the Toy Story franchise had carried the load by revealing enough about our favourite toys.
Lightyears opens with in 1995, Andy saw a movie that became his favourite toy, this is that movie.
Lightyear attempts to give you the past with the present, but it doesn’t quite grasp it in the way it should.
The minute Lightyear starts, I started comparing it to Star Trek before ultimately having an inner thought battle of Star Trek and Star Wars. Which, I know in the earlier Toy Story movies, if I remember correctly there was a blooper reel of Zurg saying “Buzz, I am your father.” So, maybe it’s a call back to that?
The way Lightyear deals with space and exploration, plus the way its characters interact with the unknown planet that they’ve been stranded on. To me, it felt very Star Trek and how the characters were mindful of their place that isn’t there’s. To me, I compared Sox to Data with the way that both characters seemed to know the place and their surroundings a lot better compared to the other characters.
Than when they revealed Zurg, it almost felt like it was mirroring Luke and Darth Vader. You know that scene “No, I am your father.” , yeah. That’s the vibe I got from Buzz and Zurg BUT unlike Star Wars. Buzz and Zurg aren’t father and son, instead it’s old Buzz vs young Buzz. Young Buzz learns how much time travel has taken a toll on his futuristic self and how his older version wants to destroy what the young Buzz has freshly learnt.
To me, this just felt wrong. It felt like Disney had forced Pixar’s hand, it felt like that this movie ruined what was. I understand that 90’s baby’s grew to love Toy Story, I LOVE Toy Story; that movie still holds a soft spot in my 27 year old heart. I kind of see that Disney/Pixar are trying to reach a new generation and want this generation of kids to feel what us 90’s babies had.
Also, as someone who works in a toy story. I will admit that it’s surprising to see how many under 10 year old worship the ground Toy Story is on (Most likely thanks to their parents). So, I understand the kids wanting to join our hype, but this movie just doesn’t capture it the way I hoped it would.
To me, I struggled to understand how Buzz the toy relates to Buzz the man. They almost don’t seem to relate at all. Though I guess both version undertake a whole pushing away people to slowly understanding that they need the company and help of others over time.
Sadly, I hate to be right. This movie was a waste of time especially when you can watch the trailer on repeat, just to save a bit of money in this expensive reality.

AQUAMAN THE LAST KINGDOM Why do people say it's horrible? I don't understand...
Tumblr media
Well, I recently saw this movie, and I honestly don't understand people. Why do they say it's bad and horrible?
Tumblr media
It is a quite acceptable film that passes the filter of a superhero adventure film, yes, it does not surpass the first, but it is a well-made film, and it is not to throw everything at it.
Where do I think the error could be? in that perhaps they should have killed either the child or Aquaman himself, this more than anything because it would make it clear that this is the only DC movie in this universe that is already almost broken, of course one sees this and in He doesn't really know what's going to happen from now on, I honestly don't see this Aquaman being part of JG's new DC universe since he has a different tone, a more... flashy one, so I don't know.
Tumblr media
But what the movie itself is, I think it is enjoyable and defends itself quite well, we have a clear script that knows where it begins and where it ends, I mean in that aspect James Wang does it well, I have seen worse things in DC that are not even understood .
Tumblr media
As for the cast of actors, it is also great, the chemistry between the two brothers Orm and Arthur is great, Patrick Wilson and Jason Momoa do their job well, now as for Amber Heard as Mera
Tumblr media
I also feel like she does it very well, the truth is I thought she would appear less but no, she really has a great participation and I loved how Aquaman helped, but what I liked the most was the dynamic of both of them.
Tumblr media
And now with all the stuff about women being glory and men being trash, seeing something like that in a MOVIE IS GRATEFUL, it is appreciated that there are strong men who are strong heroes and are not TREATED AS USELESS and yes, strong women but a balance, in this movie, both protected each other, both were equally strong, so this is one of the most important reasons to say that this movie is not bad.
Anyway, if you like movies like that, I really recommend watching it, you're going to have a good time and laugh a lot.
Anyway, we'll see each other in the next post.
